Michelle Remington (00:00):
Have you ever made a mistake, and you get

(00:02):
that feeling of dread, like,"Alright, here we go again! Like
I really needed anothermistake!" And then in your mind,
it starts spiraling out, likeit's the end of the world. And
then miraculously, sometimeduring the day, it becomes less

(00:28):
like a state of emergency andmore like "It happened,
whatever..." Or, or you could belike me. I would take those
mistakes, and I would keep onputting them in my emotional
backpack. And let that keepweighing me down and weighing me

(00:53):
down and breaking me down. Andjust adding to the arsenal of
things that I used againstmyself to beat me down
emotionally and mentally and saythings to myself. Like, "Yep,
you did it again. Oh, yeah. madeanother mistake. You always make

(01:17):
mistakes. Why are you this way?"You know, the schpeel it gets
pretty ugly.
Today, we are talking aboutmistakes, and how mistakes are
good for you. I know. Soundsweird right now, but trust me,
we're gonna get into it today.
Grab some coffee, grab some tea, grab some soda, whatever it is,

(01:39):
you're grabbing. Cuz girl, we'regonna get into it right now.!

Worth It! Intro (01:44):
Welcome to worth it. The podcast where we
answer anxiety, deflate fear andshut down shame, because ain't
no woman got time for that youwere made to thrive. My mission
is to help you get deeply rootedwith God and reclaim your weapon
that the enemy of God has beenusing against you. After going
to battle for my own mind. Threeyears ago, I realized that there

(02:07):
is a war going on for our minds.
A battle that begins with how wethink says you have much more
control than you realize. Witheach episode, you'll learn how
to fight back and become moreconfident and the truth that God
already knows, you are worth it.
I'm Michelle Remington,Christian mindset coach, thought

(02:28):
strategist, and warrior Mama.
Grab your son or daughter of theking, it's time to unleash your
inner warrior princess.

Michelle Remington (02:43):
Welcome back warrior. Yep. today. Sometimes,
as a warrior, you just got totackle the things that you don't
want to tackle the things thatyou would very much rather
avoid? Well, today, we aretackling mistakes. And of
course, there are many differentkinds of mistakes out there. But

(03:07):
we're just going to talk aboutmistakes in general, because
this is a big thing that I wentthrough. And I know pretty much
every human hates to makemistakes unless you are a human
that has learned emotionalintelligence, and how to take
every thought captive.

Mental Health Disclaimer (03:28):
Before we dive in. I do want to say
that I am not a mental healthprofessional. I'm simply sharing
from my experience withdepression, the strategies and
steps that helped me. So firstand foremost, I want you to know
that you are not alone. Reachout to friends and family. Tell
them how you're feeling. Don'tbe afraid to ask for help. The

(03:52):
world is so much better with youin it. If you need help, or
resources or just moreinformation for yourself or for
someone else. I encourage you toreach out to the National
Suicide Prevention hotline.
their phone number is1-800-273-8255 that's
1-800-273-8255 Today, we aretackling mistakes, honey, it is

(04:21):
time to make mistakes. normalagain and I know you may be
saying like oh yeah, they'renormal. I make them all the
time. It just makes my life sowonderful.

Michelle Remington (04:36):
Sarcasm aside. Mistakes need to be
normal and the way that we dealwith them. That is what we need
to normalize. It doesn't need tobe another brick that you lay in
your emotional backpack mistakeare not failures. Hear me again,

(05:03):
mistakes are not failures, theyare not a reason to quit.
Mistakes are a part of thelearning process. So if you make
mistakes, congratulations, youare a normal functioning human

(05:28):
being the way God intended andyou are learning something may
not be pleasant. But you'relearning, you're progressing.
Now we can react to mistakesfrom one of two places
generally, our rational mindwhere we actually deal with it

(05:52):
in a healthy way. Or our ego. Mmhmm. Yeah, she got ugly
sometimes, doesn't she? Yes. Oneof those two places can either
help us grow? And then the otherone knock you back a few ticks?

(06:15):
I'm pretty sure you know whichone is which. So when you react
with your ego, your pride showsits ugly head. And when pride
gets upset, the first personthat blames is you. Mm hmm.
You see pride is like a toxicrelationship. As long as

(06:38):
everything goes, Well, pride ishappy, takes all the credit. But
the moment you make a mistake, you will see that ugly side of
pride and that just rhymed...
They put all the blame on youand begin to abuse you in their

(06:59):
messed up attempt to re-gaincontrol.
Yeah, I think you may know whatwell, we do it a lot as humans,
men, women doesn't matter. Ithink women probably do it more

(07:19):
than men. But we all do it. Nowthe cool thing is God's word is
full of so much wisdom on this.
So check this out. Proverbs29:23 says "A man's pride will
bring him low. But the humble inspirit will retain honor." Yeah,

(07:49):
sounds like they got the humblespirit. Yeah, that one is doing
a whole lot better with howthey're dealing with things.

Now, Psalms 25 (07:56):
8-9 says "Good and upright is the Lord.
Therefore, He teaches sinners inthe way the humble. He guides
injustice and the humble. Heteaches his way."
Now, the interesting thing hereis, is that usually, we don't

(08:25):
normally react to mistakes thatwe make with humility. Usually,
our ego gets in the way. So weget mad at ourselves for making
a mistake or we start to beatourselves up for making that
mistake. But remaining humble iswhere that makes us teachable

(08:57):
for God.
That's very important to beteachable. Because when the
student is ready, as you'veprobably heard some time in your
life, the teacher appears. Andthat student comes with

(09:18):
humility, comes humble. Now,here's a little a little nerdy
nerdy bit for you. Okay, so ifyou look at the word, HUMAN,
"The root word of HUM in HUMancomes from the Latin word HUMus

(09:41):
meaning Earth, and Ground." Afew Bible scriptures come into
mind with that one. "And theLatin HUManus, which means MAN."
So Earth and ground and man.
Genesis coming up in my mindright now. Now is interesting.
This is this is a quote here. Sothis scientist says, "It is

(10:03):
interesting to follow thechanges of the idea here, it
begins with HUMus, earth, thenbecomes HUMble, lowly, finally
to HUMAN, man. But we must neverforget the origin of man, dust

(10:24):
thou art and dust thou mustreturn."
Now, that interesting littlenerdy tidbit there is from
English-for-students.com. That'snot even like a Christian site,
it is teaching, the origins ofthe words. And the bottom line

(10:49):
to all of that nerdy stuff. Andeverything that I've been saying
so far, is that humility, isbeautiful.
But the interesting thing abouthumility is either our ego gets
in the way, or our self hatredgets in the way. That's a hard

(11:13):
one to take. And it took me along time to get over my self
hatred. And I will be brutallyhonest here, there are times
even now, when that self hatredtries to come back, it tries to

(11:34):
rear its ugly head and take medown back down into that pit.
But it never succeeds. BecauseJesus stepped in,#1. And because
Jesus has brought me on thisjourney, to help me learn, to

(12:00):
help me grow mentally, spiritually, emotionally. And to
know that I don't need to goback to that place, I have a
choice. And my choice is Jesus, and everything that He has been
working in me, that is mychoice. You have a choice too.

(12:25):
There's a lot of layers, whenyou really start to break down.
Everything that goes with likeanxiety and depression, and
shame, and fear. There's so manylayers, it's it's just an onion,
basically, there's a lot oflayers, but the one, The One

(12:47):
that can get through all ofthose layers and peel through
all of those layers, withmastery, with surgeon precision,
and never make a mistake andknow exactly how He needs to

(13:08):
deal with this layer and how Heneeds to help you get to the
point where He can peel off thislayer is Jesus. He's The One.
Jesus is the center. Jesus isthe key. We can't do it without
Jesus, because He's The Onedoing all this spiritual work.

(13:34):
The catalyst that begins thatprocess in you and began in me
was Humility. And to say, yousaid it, I believe it. And now I

(13:54):
am coming to you, Lord, GodAlmighty that created everything
that we know, and don't know, stripping it all away. And I am
saying to you, Lord, I am comingto you, my teacher, my master, I
am teachable and coachable. I'mready to learn. I'm ready to

(14:16):
move.
God is amazing. He created us.
Amazingly! There's so much thatwe don't understand about the
human body and how He createdus. And others. The cool thing
is, is that when you make amistake, and you learn from that
mistake, you choose to learnfrom that mistake. Now, the cool

(14:39):
thing is when you make amistake, you're growing new
pathways in your brain. here'sthe kicker, depending on how you
deal with that mistake, if youuse it, to bash yourself and
beat yourself up, you're growingup pathways that way. Kind of

(14:59):
sounds like a dark and drearyforest doesn't sound all that
great.
But when you choose to learnfrom those mistakes, you are
growing new pathways, to learnsomething into progress in your

(15:23):
journey, and to be better offthan where you were before.
Yeah. Even more awesome, there'sno map in your brain to tell
those new pathways were to grow.
But God knows, kind of makes methink of "Your word is a lamp to
my feet and a light to my path."Your brain is literally walking

(15:47):
by faith and not by sight tobuild those new neural pathways.
Like, I get all nerdy about thatstuff, okay, like, Whoa, it's
amazing. God is working mightilyin you, even down to this
cellular level. Awesome! And we can never change the fact

(16:11):
that we were created by theAlmighty God. And of course, my
hope is that you are to thepoint in your journey that you
would never want to be otherthan created by the Almighty
God. John 1:1 says, "In thebeginning was the Word, the Word
was with God. And the word was,God."

(16:36):
Now take a little step backthere, go to Genesis 1:26. God
said, "Let us make man in ourimage, according to our
likeness." God is so good! Godis so good! And so amazing! Like

(16:57):
we can't even fathom the depthof the work that He is doing in
us.
If we want to thrive, we need tobelieve and embrace who we are
and who our Creator is, andbridge that gap and come into

(17:18):
covenant, into relationship withGod. The moral of today's
podcast is that you're supposedto make mistakes. You're
supposed to make mistakes, andit's okay. If you make mistakes,

(17:42):
hey, you might even want to go astep further. And when you make
a mistake, instead of mentallybeating yourself up, what would
happen if we started to say,Thank You, Jesus? Thank you,
Jesus. How much would that turnit around?

(18:04):
That would begin to train yourmind getting that attitude of
gratitude going on real strong.
So that is my challenge for youthe next time you make a
mistake, instead of sayingsomething negative, either out
your mouth, or in your mind.

(18:26):
Just say Thank You, Jesus. Thankyou Jesus. Because mistakes mean
progress may not seem like it.
But But mistakes mean, progress.
Thank you for joining me on thisepisode of worth it. If this
