Michelle Remington (02:33):
Settling in with God, it actually comes from
this prayer that has been on myheart with God. And you know, I
always continue to pray that Godwill help me to draw closer and
closer to him. And at first, Iwas just like, I was thinking,

(02:54):
Okay, well, I don't know whatthat is, but God's gonna figure
it out. And he's going to helpme to draw closer to Him. But
that's not helpful. So what I'mfinding is that as I continue to
ask God to, to help me, what I'mfinding is that he's showing me

(03:16):
what those areas are, that Ineed to work on. Because this
needs to be an activerelationship.
It's, you know, he didn't createus to be robots. So it's not
like, okay, you pray it, and nowgo ahead and fix it, and
everything's gonna be hunkydory. And we're just going to

(03:36):
move on with life. Now. Godcreated us as a versatile and
impressive machine. He createdour minds to be able to figure
these things out and work thesethings out. And what I've found

(03:59):
is that through this process ofworking these things out, and
God's showing me these issuesand then me then taking action,
it's it's affirming to Godshowing him that yes, I mean
business, I'm going to I'm goingto do this, I'm going to work
through this. But then it's alsobeneficial for me because that

(04:22):
just helps me to draw closer toGod as I'm trying to figure my
way out through this.
So it's a partnership. And sothe idea that came into my mind
is settling in with God, notsettling with God not like,

(04:43):
Alright, this is the best I canget. I'm just gonna settle here
because I don't think I can doany better. No, this is settling
in with God. Kind of like whenyou're starting any kind of
relationship and Um, in thatrelationship, whether it be a

(05:04):
partner relationship, or afriendship or a work
relationship, like you're in itfor the long haul, you know,
you're gonna go through lifetogether, you're gonna go
through stuff together.
And so at that point, when youenter that relationship, you
begin to open yourself up, tolearn about that person, learn

(05:27):
how they do things, and thenkind of work together to see how
you can, you know, make asuccess of this relationship,
yes, there's going to be hardtimes, and you may start to, to
doubt yourself each other, whatever else may come. But

(05:50):
you're still in thisrelationship for the long haul
in the main point here is thatyou're opening yourself up in
this relationship. And that'swhere the idea of settling in
with God came from. Because, asyou probably know, there's many

(06:11):
people in the world that theiridea of getting into a
relationship means fixing theother person. But that's not
what we're looking at here.
Because God doesn't need fixing.
We need fixing.
But at the same token, it's notgoing into this relationship,

(06:34):
what like, Oh, he's gonna fixme, and I'm just gonna leave it
all to him. It's a two waystreet. It's a relationship that
we both have to work at. Andimagine that just think about
that for a minute. Right? You'rebeginning this relationship with
God, who is God, God is theAlmighty Creator of everything

(06:57):
that we see that we don't see, like time space matter, none of
it would exist, if God had notcreated it. And it is this God
that is wanting to work with youin a relationship, and learn

(07:18):
about you and work together withyou. To make it the best that it
can be. The Almighty God, like, personally, that floors me, I'm
like, on my face, okay.
And so, just thinking about it,like this as settling in with

(07:42):
God, what kind of relationshipis possible with God, if we go
into it with a mentality, andwith an open mind and open
heart, willing to learn God'sways to learn who he is to
recognize his excellence, torecognize that he is the

(08:08):
Almighty God. And here we are, mere humans, his creation, but
out of his unfathomable, Amazinglove, he chooses to make that
time for each of us. And so Iwant to focus on how we can
begin to settle in with God. AndI will tell you that, in my own

(08:35):
process of this, I have foundthat God wants us to be
emotionally intelligent.
As you begin to learn aboutemotional intelligence, you're
gonna see, you're going to seein the scriptures and read a lot
of the Scriptures a whole lotmore differently and realize,

(08:55):
whoa, now that I understand whatemotional intelligence is and
how it works, and how I canapply it to my life, then I read
the scriptures. And it'sliterally like an emotional
intelligence instruction book.
Because if we can begin tomaster our emotions, that's,
that's like, game set match.

(09:20):
That I mean, that is like that, because that in our emotions, is
the biggest battlefield. And thebiggest area where the enemy of
God has the most footing is inour emotions.
And if we can begin to masterand understand our emotions,

(09:46):
then we can start to recognizepatterns and behaviors that are
causing that continual merry goround. ride that we're on with
some of these emotionalprocesses that we're going
through. But I will tell youthat you're going to need God to

(10:10):
get there, you're going to needGod to help you. Because a lot
of these emotions, thesebehaviors, these patterns are
deep seated. And sometimesthere's things that we just
don't remember. And sometimesit's things that we don't like,
Sure, we remember, but we don'tremember like that we don't
remember, it's something thatwas traumatic for us.

(10:35):
And so that's why it's soimportant to learn about
emotional intelligence, andlearning how to settle in with
God. And I would say, the numberone step that you can take to
begin to settle in with God, ofcourse, you're going to be going

(10:58):
to prayer, you're going to bemaking time finding a quiet
place for you to go to God inprayer. But one big step that
you can take to get out of yourown way to get out of God's way
is to open yourself up. And itmay take some time to do this.
And that's okay. Because a lotof times, there's deep seated

(11:22):
hurts, traumas pains that wehave that we need to build up
the courage to open ourselves upto, or maybe you've just been
building this up for so long, you're just, you're just ready
for God to work, you're readyfor God to move, either wait,
the first step is to openyourself up to God.

(11:45):
Now, in my personal experience,I have to do this in steps. I
have to do this in layers, because there's so many layers
of I mean, think of like all thedifferent things that you have
been through in your life, thenthink about all the things that
that have happened to you. Allthe things that you've said, all

(12:06):
the things that have been saidto you, like there's so many
layers that God alone sees, andonly God alone can work through
to help us overcome. This is anenormous battle that is so very
understated in our world today.
But this is a huge, hugebattleground. And once we can

(12:31):
work with God to master thistrickiness, see victory upon
victory, upon victory, he says, you're going to see it. And I
trust and I know that Jesus willget you there because he's done
it in me. And maybe you'realready on that road.

(12:54):
Now, for me, like I began toopen myself up to God, but then
I was afraid because I didn'tknow what was gonna happen. Even
though I was working with God.
In this relationship, I wasstill afraid, because I didn't
know where I was going. I didn'tknow what it was going to look
like. I didn't know what it wasgoing to feel like I was afraid
of what would happen if Godbegan to open up those past

(13:17):
memories, those past hurts. ButI had to get past that. And your
weapon to helping you build upto that and build up to the
courage to do that is creatingyour own patterns, by your
behaviors.
So if you go to God, every dayin prayer, or maybe you pray

(13:42):
more than once a day, maybe youpray at morning and you pray in
the night. Every time you go toprayer, you ask God to help you
open up just like the man said, and in the New Testament
Scriptures help Lord myunbelief. There's, there's, I

(14:04):
may be the only one in this, butI'm pretty sure I'm not. There
was a time when I was like, howdare I even tried to ask God to
help me to trust him? How dare Ido that? Like I should be able
to do that on my own. But no, wewe put so we are so hard on
ourselves sometimes. And usbeing hard on ourselves, is

(14:30):
basically us digging in ourheels as we are in our own way.
And so if we can dig up thoseheels and recognize that God
wants us to ask him for help, because we cannot do it alone.

(14:51):
That is not how we were createdto do it alone.
If we were created to do italone, then God would not exist.
We wouldn't need God But youalready know that we do need God
every single day. Because onlyGod can work in our lives, in
our hearts, in our emotions, inour thoughts. Only he can work

(15:15):
in us like he does. That firststep is to open yourself up to
God. And it is oh K, if it takesyou some time. But remember to
use your weapon of creating apattern in your behavior that

(15:38):
moves you forward to that battleposition of opening yourself up
to God. Because once you openyourself up to God, oh, it's on,
it is on you open yourself up toGod, and he's going to begin to
work in all of those areas inyour life, he's going to begin

(16:02):
to work in all of those areasthat you forgot about all of
those areas that you hoped hewould overlook. All of those
areas that you don't want him togo Sis, we have to submit all of
that to God. Now, for me onething that helped visualizations
help for me.

(16:22):
So I found myself praying oneday, and as I was praying, I
envisioned in my mind, a house, like a giant kind of hidden away
house, in the woods. And yes, there's tentative metaphors and
stuff like that can that can gointo that, well analyze that

(16:42):
later. But here we are. So Iimagined in my mind visualized,
this house, that is not exactlykept up, need some work. And I
envisioned myself in front ofthe house, giving this huge set

(17:07):
of keys to every single door, closet, crevice, attic,
basement, every single door, Iput it in the hands of Jesus.
And I said, Lord Jesus, I giveyou permission to completely

(17:28):
renovate, and go through everysingle room, inside my mind, and
my heart, I give you permissionto make changes, I give you
permission to throw away and getrid of everything that is extra
and is not profitable, to me, isnot profitable, in my

(17:54):
relationship with you, becauseLord Jesus, my intention is to
have a relationship with you, mysovereign God, where there is
nothing in the way between youand I, there is no veil, there

(18:14):
is no fear, there is no doubt, there's no shame. There is
nothing in between you, My God,my sovereign, and I, because it
is my full intention to submitto you, God fully, and to give

(18:35):
you full rein God, and insubmission to you God, I know
that you are going to help mereach the full potential that I
was created for.
I'm going to tell you, mysincere prayer is that you don't
get to the point where I had toget to be able to submit to God

(18:58):
like that, to be ready to submitto Him like that. Because it
took me being ready to end mylife, to be able to realize that
I'm not doing this on my own.
And I'm really not meant to dothis. on my own. I need God and
I need nothing in the waybetween God and myself. So it is
my sincere prayer, thatsomething in this podcast today

(19:22):
has touched your heart hasreached somewhere has has
triggered something in your mindthat will help you to take these
steps to draw closer to God,where Jesus I thank you for this
opportunity. And I pray Lord, that these words that you have

(19:43):
given me will echo in the heartsof every single person that
hears this and that you thatthey would be able to submit to
you God and take those steps sothat you can be In and continue
your work in them. You alone Godare worthy of the praise and you

(20:05):
alone God can help us to reachour full potential you alone,
we, we are nothing without youliterally we are nothing without
you. If you had not spoken usinto existence, we would not be
here, God. So I thank you foryour great love, your intention

(20:25):
that you spoke the words tobring us into existence for a
purpose, for your purpose. And Ipray, Lord, that You would help
each of us to strip everythingelse away, get everything extra
out of the way. And get back tothat simple fact. And begin to

(20:45):
live and walk in that faith, knowing that you are all we need
God to in your precious. Yourholy name Jesus we pray. Amen.
Amen.
