Worth the wait and Just like that Season 3 Episode 3 recap,
What do you what do you got for me, Sarah?
Back again. Back again.
This episode, I don't know, there's a lot going on that
doesn't make sense to me. Right, right, a lot of it.
I do like it. It was a very clear shout out to
when she went to his cabin in Suffern.
(00:33):
Suffern very clear. Shout and did you notice the
outfit repeat as well. Carrie had a shirt on that she
wore in season 3 in the I think the episode is called Hot Child
in the City. It's where she's dating that.
Guy who comes with his parents, yeah, right, right, right.
So. We saw that shirt again, but
(00:55):
thankfully not the pants. I mean, I don't want to say
like, oh, that's the highest praise I have for the episode.
It was fine. You know, all right, so OK, so
you know me and loving the threeways and the themes and the
themes was was obviously kids and motherhood.
It was. And you know, Carrie's whole
relationship with Aiden, she's doing it.
(01:17):
She's shrinking herself. She's self abandoning.
She wants to be the cool girlfriend, right?
The cool chill girl who doesn't have any needs, who doesn't have
any emotions, who everything is fine and she doesn't speak up
because she doesn't want to rockthe boat.
And I guess I don't, I don't really want to speak in defense
of Aiden at this point. No.
(01:37):
Because he's kind of like the new Big, Right?
Carrie has become the Carrie shewas when she was dating Big,
right? Yeah, but I feel like.
Aiden is different as well. It's.
Because he has kids. Correct.
And it's because he has kids andhe has perspective.
He sees Carrie for who she is. Well, and so I, I was going to
say again, like hopefully not asa defensive Aiden.
(02:00):
I know, because that's not how Imean it, but like, yeah, like
what emotional needs does? Like what needs does Carrie
have, truly? She said.
Last right, that's but see, thisis what's frustrating for me.
So the whole the episode opens with her talking to her agent,
must be her lint agent. And the lint agent received some
requests, some appearances for Carrie for her book.
(02:22):
And two of the requests, one wasGoogle and one was SXSW.
Now these are two like very prestige, not prestigious, but
they're high profile appearances.
The third was some rinky dink author gathering or speech in
Williamsburg, VA. Yeah, it doesn't make.
And Carrie decides, oh, I'll take that one.
And we know why she's doing it. We know why she's giving up on
(02:45):
Google and going to Hicksville. Of course.
It's as an excuse to have lunch with Aiden Girl, if these are
the links you have to go to for your boyfriend to see you.
And she keeps referring to that house as our house, right?
Yeah. How much money did he pay for
it? Right.
What money did he put in there? He wouldn't even pick out a
coffee table. Right, he didn't even like the
(03:07):
table that you liked. Which also was fine.
Like I wouldn't have even asked him.
I'd have been like, you don't even live here, I'm paying a
coffee table. Yeah, you're hardly ever here.
So she decides to go to Williamsburg of.
Course she does. Right.
And this also reminded me of when she took the train to
California. Yeah, right.
For the for the book reading andBig showed up.
(03:29):
Yep. It really somewhat reminds me of
that because she planning this trip and she gets Seema to go
with her and oh, you know, we'rejust, we're just going to do
lunch and Seema says you're not going to stay over.
No, no, no. Very simple, very simple, very
easy. Breezy also.
Like why would you bring Seema and then not hang out with her?
Well, dude, I don't know. How about she, she come down the
(03:51):
stairs when Seema picks her up and she's got one bag.
I just have one outfit and my lipstick.
I'm like this, remember? Like in my laptop?
Easy breezy, right? She she's getting smaller and
smaller and smaller and smaller as the episode goes on.
And they finally get to Virginiaand they rent a car because
Carrie has not renewed her license in seven years, right?
(04:12):
Well, I always bring my passport, but I don't know that,
just I don't. Know, like I said, there's a lot
that doesn't really make sense but.
Right. Because like.
Why would we expect anything more from Carrie, really?
You know, like it is really. It just really shows you how the
lack of growth, she's still thisincredibly irresponsible person,
(04:36):
just has more money now, right? Well, and I guess that's what I
mean when I say like, like what needs could she have?
She could literally outsource all of them.
Right, right. I mean, yeah, Aiden's not
meeting your emotional needs. Well, you have an additional day
of therapy. Do something.
So. And you said this reminds you of
the suffering episode, which of course it does.
(04:57):
But it also, for me, was a very cringy call back to the Big Mac,
the LA Big Mac incident of. No, we.
Could do the phone sex with the Big Mac.
It would that humiliating drop in.
Yes, where and there were so many.
Whether she lived or died, wait a.
(05:18):
Minute. Wait a minute.
Get it? Well, it's hot.
Yeah, yeah. Yeah, So she gets down there and
she plans to meet Aiden for lunch.
And she gets off the phone with him and she's talking to Seema.
And she says, you know, I'm, I'mbothered that he didn't ask me
to stay. And so the next day, I guess
Seema is trying to encourage herto say something and she she
(05:40):
doesn't want to say anything because she's too afraid
because. Aiden is the new big.
Correct. Aiden is the new big.
Carrie is the old Carrie, right?Carrie has not changed one hour.
Continue to be disappointed by aman acting precisely how he
tells you he will. Right, so they go to lunch,
whatever he is driving her home or he asks her to stay.
(06:02):
He asks her to stay overnight. They get to his house, which is
beautiful. The kitchen alone was gorgeous.
Yes, as it should be. As it should be.
And he says, listen, I have a thing with my sons.
We always talk the night before and we say how the next day is
going to play out, meaning we all with no surprises, we know
exactly what's going to happen. And and Carrie is sitting there
(06:25):
and she's saying, oh, so they don't, they don't know I'm I'm
coming. He's like, no, I didn't really
get a chance to tell them. She goes OK.
He wasn't planning to invite herover.
He wasn't, you know, she's like,OK, and she said, so how do you
want to do this? And he points her in the
direction of the guest house, and he puts her up in the guest.
House, That's right. He essentially hides her yes
(06:48):
very big ish right, very big. He hides her so that he can go
back to the house and like everything's normal, but that is
such a representation of I'm here, you're here.
We will never be together, right?
I really felt like they they were, they were sort of driving
that point home of there she is in this one place and he's in
(07:10):
this other place. Not really thinking of her,
right, right. Just just really not considering
her at all. And I, I just, I don't know what
they're where they're headed with this.
And the other other thing, because this happened in in this
scene as well, because she gets out of the truck, she reaches
into her bag and she pulls out abaggie full of Adderall.
(07:30):
Yeah. And she gives it to Aiden.
And she says, oh, here, here's that Adderall that Kathy had
asked for, for Wyatt and Aiden'sface.
Right. Like again, a thing that doesn't
make any sense. No, right you.
Imagine you're not going to you guys, the three, the four of you
are not going to talk. Well, I I right.
Or three, I guess why it wouldn't be involved, but right,
(07:51):
yeah. You're not going to, well, he
has to be sort of in on it if you're going to be on meds and
he's going to be staying with him and you're not going to be
there, right? What?
Yeah. Why are you involving my
girlfriend? Right.
But the the ask alone was so nervy.
It was weird. Very weird.
(08:12):
Yeah, because I kind of got the impression the one other time
they met, she didn't really likecare.
Yeah, right. She didn't really like.
Care, right? And I'm like, well, at the very
least, I think, you know, I, I got, I got the impression from
that meeting that like she just, she got a pretty good read on
her. And what I'm getting at is, why
would you ask this woman for anything?
(08:33):
Right. Why would you believe she could
come through on anything? Right.
How do you know this is going toshow up in a book at some point?
Right. So now we're going to transition
into Charlotte's story because Charlotte's story was a little
entertaining and it I felt like the writers were listening to
our podcast. Obviously not.
(08:54):
But so Charlotte is, she goes toall these after work events, but
all the deals are being made at these after parties.
And she's really frustrated because she always has to come
home and her kids are at the table saying you don't have to.
No one tells you you have to. But she says, Mom, can you make
my dinner? Can you do this?
And you do that? And she makes the kids realize,
(09:16):
no, you don't make me feel like I can be out.
I do feel like I always have to be here.
And then Harry, because he can'tlet, he can't let Charlotte have
a moment. I feel the same way.
Find anything for him to do. They really can't.
Other than embarrass him? Right, right.
And he's talking well, I'm the, you know, I'm the old guy at my
firm and I'm going to go, I'm going to go to the club with
(09:38):
you. OK, All right, I guess that's
what you're saying. And so so she agrees that she's
going to start going to these after like these after parties
because that's where all her younger Co workers are going,
who, by the way, are the most unprofessional people.
I don't know, maybe it's just the industry, maybe it's that
that world. But I was cringing throughout
the whole thing because this is a potential client and all
(09:59):
you're doing is talking about fucking him.
It's just gross. So Charlotte's there and she's
at this club and Harry has to goto this party with her.
So why are you there? She's working.
I don't know they they just. What's happening?
They can't find anything for himto do.
They really care. Right, so the coworker is
crushing on this one really wealthy potential client, and
(10:21):
she's asking Charlotte to help her out, right?
To help hook her up I guess to fix her up.
Weird too, right? Yeah.
Very bad boundaries I. Just don't you feel like this
whole thing with the the youngercoworkers is like because like
without that there's no sex in the city anyway.
Like no ones having sex. They're right.
So that was maybe just like a way of like filling sex back to.
(10:44):
Selling that nation. I think.
I think maybe they're at this party.
There's this one Rich client. You knew him immediately.
He was a douche. And they go to the after after
party and Harry's like, I'm out of here, but you go.
I was happy about that that. He can go home.
Great. Bye, get your cat.
Bye. So she goes to the after after
party. Now they're doing blow and you
(11:06):
know, he says, oh, and I I got this from that woman.
He's talking about the Co worker.
And again, these are not things I want my Co workers knowing
that, you know, I'm doing drugs or whatever.
And she is trying to help about this Co worker by putting in a
good word. For whatever reason, she's
twisting her hair and she's acting all like coy.
Yeah, girl, of course he's goingto think you're flirting with
(11:28):
him. Of course he wasn't.
She wasn't. And he makes a move on her and
she calls him basically a pig and leaves.
And then she's at this big eventwhere one of her mom friends
comes in and this mom friend wants to buy this painting, this
really expensive painting. And Charlotte, because her sort
of storyline was, hey, I'm an influencer.
(11:50):
I can hey, I can. She can get the she got the
Adderall from one of her mom friends to give to Carrie and
she gets one of these sales fromher mom group, right?
That doesn't make sense either. Well, it doesn't.
It doesn't only because Upper East Side.
Lots of money, sure, but. It's still a controlled
substance. Like you're not going to give
(12:11):
away your kids Adderall, right? Like when you fill the
prescription, you can't fill it again for 30 days.
Well, I'm sure there's some funkiness going on with the
prescriptions, meaning I'm sure they're getting, I don't know,
multiple, I don't know. I don't know, I don't know.
So Charlotte learns that she canbe an influencer and she can do
her job, and she doesn't have totry and keep up with these
younger kids to do it. Great.
(12:32):
I guess. Seema's boss.
I love what he was saying. I'm 90.
Seema and her boss had this planthat he when he retired, he was
going to sell his shares to her.She was going to take over the
company, basically. And then, of course, he Dicks
her over and brings in a white man.
Yeah. And Seam is this.
Is outrageous. That didn't make sense either.
No, I just always had the impression that they had a great
(12:54):
relationship. It really seemed that way in
just the last episode, yeah. It makes sense.
So now Seam is wondering, what do I do right?
Do I stay and stay comfortable? Granted, it's not good that this
isn't the future that I saw for myself.
You know, she says this and she's thinking, am I too old to
start over? Which I think a lot of women her
(13:16):
age, my age, try to reinvent themselves.
I think that's a very common experience.
And she's wondering, do I do this?
And she when she's out with Carrie and they're driving in
Williamsburg, VA, she, she rentsthe car and she backs the car
into a truck. And Carrie says, didn't you see
the sign? Just know.
And Carrie points to the sign that says don't back up.
(13:38):
And Seema decides to take that as a sign of don't go backwards,
go forwards, which I liked. OK, show me more of that.
I would like to see more Lisa, the documentarian.
She's been working on this project of 10 unsung.
She rose, except one of them is Michelle Obama, who is very
sung. And she finds out that her
(13:58):
editor, who's been working with her for eight years, received an
offer to work on a film with an Academy award-winning director
named Steve McQueen. And she is saying, oh, that's
great. And you're going to go from this
job to the other. And the the assistant, the
editor says, well, he kind of needs needs me now.
And Lisa's just beside herself. Even though this is a massive
(14:21):
opportunity. Are you crazy trying to get this
woman to give up this opportunity for you?
Instead of encouraging her, she tries to guilt her.
And she gets home and her husband and Christopher Jackson,
who I love, he says, listen, I think you need a little bit of a
reality, you know, reality, chill, reality pill here.
She had grace. That's the editor.
(14:42):
She has stayed by your side for eight years, one year on, one
year off. When you had Gabby, she was
always there. Now it's her turn.
And it was a classic case of thewoman who doesn't have children
being expected to make the sacrifices for the woman who has
children, right? Well, her life must must be more
important, must be more busy and.
(15:05):
Well to be fair, she probably ismore busy, it's just that her
life isn't more important. Right, her life isn't more
important. So realizing she's being a Dick
to Grace, she apologizes as she should, and they work that out.
The next. It's just next Miranda's
flirting with a Brit. I don't know.
I don't even know where that wasgoing.
I didn't know what the point was.
I. Don't know, I mean, maybe we'll
see her finally get an equal relationship.
(15:27):
Maybe I want. I do.
I want to see her with someone on her level.
Yeah. I want to see how that works.
I want to see what that looks like.
I know, and I think she even says in the episode, I I need to
excel, right, She always needs to excel.
She she said that's always driving her.
And I think that plays into why she why she typically set not
(15:50):
settles, but but gravitates towards people who aren't sort
of in her station financially oreducation or just status wise,
because she needs to be. She needs to be the one right,
the leader in the relationship, the superior 1.
So I don't know, are they flirting?
Are they not flirting? I don't know.
It seems like they are. Right.
I mean, I would think they are. Where's this going?
(16:13):
I don't know. Dude, I don't.
I don't. Clear.
It's not like the writers are probably a little a little gun
shy about introducing a new loveinterest for Miranda after the
Che debacle. Maybe.
Che was just so universally reviled.
And I do feel like they're introducing this character
slowly. They're testing.
They're testing us, yes. I do think they are, and I like
(16:36):
this woman, so I'm awesome. Too.
But I also kind of like Miranda single, like she's fresh out of
recovery. That's it.
Right. She shouldn't be dating.
Right. She should be focusing on
healing and and herself and. Right.
And this is the one who was lecturing them, saying we're
smart, educated women and all wecan talk about is our
(16:56):
boyfriends. Well, and also like, wasn't
Brady at the end of last season?Wasn't he on the cusp of leaving
for college? You're talking to Miranda.
Wouldn't be super involved in that process.
Like he's getting him out of thenest.
He's living with Steve. That doesn't mean she's not his
mom anymore. Right.
Oh, you think she'd be doing a Charlotte and wanting to see?
Absolutely, yeah. Steve didn't go to college, so
(17:19):
what's he going to do for Brady in terms of like picking a
college, you know? Yeah, I do.
So I don't know. And the the storyline with
Anthony and the I love Anthony'sboyfriend too.
I love Giuseppe. Yeah, I think they're just
trying to find a way to keep Anthony around, right?
They they need yeah, he can't just Yeah, right.
They he, he doesn't want to. I think he just doesn't want to
(17:40):
be Charlotte. Sassy Gay.
The sassy gay, which he is, he wants to have a little bit more
substance, which I do think they're giving him.
And I like that and I I do like the character.
It's just it feels like we're I just don't know where is this
going? Where all where's all of this
going? And why is it?
I don't know so long, right likeyou used to, you guys used to
(18:02):
used to get more accomplished inthe 30 minute episodes.
It's true. Than you do in these 60 minute
episodes. Yeah, I mean, at this point they
must feel like they have unlimited time, like the show
will just be renewed infinitely.Right, that's my guess.
Because they've, I mean, they've, they've pulled off 2-3
movies. How many movies have there?
Been 22 Movies OK. 2 movies. This is season 3 of And just
(18:28):
Like that. So yeah, they they probably just
feel like we're just gonna keep lapping this up.
Yeah, I I'm just, I'm very frustrated.
The thing that gets me is Carrieis a millionaire and she's
settling for a situation ship. But here's the thing, she has
historically shrunk herself in her relationship, and no bigger,
no more obvious time than with the Russian, right?
(18:50):
This is what she does. And what about this?
Oh, I want the real love and convenient love, blah blah blah
blah blah. What happened to that, Carrie?
Speaking of the Russian, you know what I was thinking about
this week with the Wyatt close encounter or near miss maybe
Remember when Carrie met the Russians daughter?
Oh, and thought it was his girlfriend.
(19:12):
And she was so cunty. Right.
But I think she was more French,no offense.
I think she was. We definitely need Carrie to
meet Wyatt. That's going to take some of the
shine off Aiden real quick. Real fucking quick.
Because Wyatt's obviously a nightmare.
Right. And he's obviously going to hate
her. Oh yeah, yeah.
And that's going to be the that's going to be yet another
(19:35):
hurdle for these star crossed lovers, which I I can't carry
just she romanticizes relationships, right, right.
She. Seems no ought to know at her
big age that she shouldn't be dating anybody with kids.
Right, but she always she's thatperson who's like, oh, we just I
feel like we're just destined tobe together.
I mean we've waited all this time and then we found each
(19:55):
other again and you know what I mean?
She's she's doing that in her head with Hayden.
My. Only hope with this whole Aiden
is that when we come to the end of it, which hopefully will be
this season, I hope that it comes with the realization that
she threw herself back into Aiden because she didn't
(20:17):
properly grieve big because she didn't.
Or at least we didn't see it. And I I get that that makes for
shitty TV. Right, but.
I just need her to be single fora little bit, just grow as a
person a little bit. But she was single the whole
first episode but like. Be single and not sad about it.
(20:39):
You know what I mean? Like yes, just grow a little
bit. Yeah, same with Miranda though
Girls just be single for a while.
Right, right. And have it be OK.
Right. Also, Miranda, what happened
with school? Or did she just?
Maybe, I think maybe she finished, I don't know.
Maybe the show's been off for two years or a year and a half.
Yeah, I'm. I'm just very frustrated that
(21:00):
this woman who she girl, you have so much money and you're
spending all this money on him and he's not reciprocating.
He is that guy who tells you he wants a relationship but then
has an excuse for why he can't match her energy.
I feel like Carrie needs a second.
A second wind is like an interior designer or something.
Something because I'll say this fiction novel she's writing,
(21:21):
which I don't think she's going to stick with obviously, because
it sounds terrible, but it's herway of working through.
It's her way of working through with this thing with Aidan,
Right, Right. That's what it is.
I should we just need to get herin therapy.
You've got, she's got the money,right, I mean.
I thought you were going to say,but she has her friends, which
is what she what? Carrie said when?
(21:43):
Yeah, when? Miranda.
Was like why did she say we're as fucked as the rest of them?
Right. It's the blind lady of the
blinds, which is true. Let's see, was there anything,
anything else that was? Kind of it.
That really was kind of we. Continued to meander.
Really, assumption that we're going to get infinite episodes
can. We talk about the gardener for a
second. Oh yeah.
OK, so who they setting him up with?
(22:04):
Do we think it's going to be Carrie?
Do we think it's going to be Seema?
I mean, I hope it's Seema, but it seems like it's Carrie.
Well, here's my question. How old is The thing is, I think
this guy's supposed to be in hislate 40s, early 50's.
The ACT. I thought he was in his late
30s. The actor I think is in his mid
to late 40s. OK, well, that's roughly how old
(22:24):
he looked to me. Yeah.
Yes, but also I want to know they introduced the nephew,
right, The nephew, Oh, that car,it's this obviously
neurodivergent, right? We picked up on that very we
clocked that very quickly. So where they going with that I
feel. Like there.
I just feel like they're introducing that.
I feel like they're. Introducing.
That maybe some there, maybe not, who knows, But I do like
(22:47):
the gardener. I do like that.
I just, he's just such a normal guy and I have a feeling.
That's what's not working for mewith him.
I just he feels too good to be true.
He feels like Aiden in the beginning, doesn't he?
Doesn't he? Right, he's too good to be true.
And I think we're going to find out he's loaded.
Oh yeah, like loaded, loaded. I think we're going to find that
(23:10):
out because he does say, oh, I had that record store.
I bet he sold it or something happened, right?
I do. But I like that character.
I do. I'd like to see more I feel.
Like attached yet? I'm not, I wouldn't say I'm
attached, but I do like the character.
