The safest place for Zair is in the shadow of the throne. Soon, Zair is introduced to Jillian, mother of crown prince Anwir, as the final step in being chosen as his Shadow. Magnus argues with the magicians who want to use a mirror spell to bind the two boys together, citing it as too dangerous and uncontrollable.
