In a world obsessed with diets, restrictions, and body image, intuitive eating is a breath of fresh air. I recently had the pleasure of sitting down for a podcast conversation with Libby Supan, a licensed marriage and family therapist, and certified intuitive eating coach. We discussed body positivity, intuitive eating, and disordered eating.
CW: This interview does contain reference to past binging and purging and restriction (from a healed place).
This discussion aims to debunk misconceptions about intuitive eating and emphasizes the importance of rejecting diet culture, developing self-trust, mindfulness, and joyful movement.
Libby shares personal experiences from her own eating disorder recovery and explains how she turned those experiences into a passion for helping others. The conversation also delves into the idea of fun food versus junk food, and the importance of removing morality labels from all food items, according to the Intuitive Eating approach. Libby highlights the need for a balanced approach to eating, acknowledging that one might gain weight, lose weight or stay the same when they start intuitive eating. The important part, she insists, is understanding that it's not a dieting regime, but rather a means to establish a healthier outlook on food and bring peace with oneself.
