This is a real human story. Introducing Pia McBean and her soul’s journey. As we chat to Pia we become to know she has been asked time and time again to step into presence of staying true to her sense of self and always being mindful of the power of the present moment – the choice of optimism that lies therein.
This episode is a timestamp of the COVID-19 global pandemic at 7 November 2020 where in the same week we collectively experienced:
- The second wave of COVID-19 in Europe and lockdowns imposed.
- A terrorist attack in the centre of Vienna.
- The controversial US presidential election.
- On our side of the world Melbourne is easing out of four months of an onerous lockdown and restrictions.
Pia and her youngest daughter Izzy currently call Vienna, Austria home. This is where Pia divides her time well honouring her work/life/spiritual balance. She is raising a teenager, spending quality time with her elderly mum and her sibling as well as connecting deeply to nature and her fur friend aka soulmate Gigi. All while deep diving into a new role as the PA to the UK Ambassador to the OSCE.
Pia shares with us the vision she had of living abroad. This included regular visits to spend time with her two other children as well as family and friends residing in Sydney, Australia. Along with traveling to as many destinations in Europe to experience diversity in culture and arts.
We explore how those in the first world are not mentally and emotionally equipped for unprecedented human hardships. We unpack the biggest lesson of COVID-19 where there is no “right way”. For most people it’s been a shock and for others it has become grief - letting go of a blissful life we once knew. Many have never really experienced the situation of two available choices where both are not ideal and yet you need to make a decision to live within the framework of one or the other. We then deep dive into the pros and cons of collective acceptance of the unique limitations of COVID-19 as opposed to collective reactivity.
Pia explains how at each stage of her life she chose to do the best she could with what knowledge, resources and support she had. We suggest "thinking outside of our conditioning" to discover new ways of sustaining the earth, earning an income whilst embodying resilience to overcome anything, anytime and anywhere.
Pia’s devotion to her self care rituals allows her to start each day in a positive mindset. She achieves this by immersing herself in daily nature walks, deep soul connection with Gigi, adhering to her new vegetarian lifestyle and moderation in all categories of life.
We hope you are uplifted by Pia’s experience and outlook on life and have learnt more about creating work/life/spiritual balance.
