Kathy Piech-Lukas, Your Drea (00:30):
Hi
, welcome to Your Dream Day
podcast.
Today, we are going to talkabout wedding smells, and we're
not talking about the food orthe cake or the flowers.
We're talking about the stinkysmells that nobody wants to talk
about.
We're talking about restrooms, and today I have special guest
(00:51):
Blake Holland from LuxuryLavatories, and we are going to
talk about the benefits ofhaving a restroom trailer for
your outdoor wedding reception.
So, if you're planning to havethe wedding reception in your
backyard, this is the podcastfor you.
So, Blake, thank you so muchfor joining us, Welcome.
Blake Holland, Luxury Lavat (01:11):
Hey
, Kathy, thanks for having me.
It's a pleasure, great to behere.
Kathy Piech-Lukas, Your Dr (01:14):
Tell
us a little bit about Luxury
Lavatories.
What are Luxury Lavatories?
Blake Holland, Luxury Lava (01:18):
Well
, just simply, like the name
implies, we are a company thatrents out restaurant trailers,
and they're not your typicalporta-potties or concert
restroom trailers.
These are high-end, very nice, clean restroom trailers that we
rent out for weddings, outdoorfestivals, birthday parties,
(01:40):
graduation parties, you name it.
Kathy Piech-Lukas, Your Dr (01:43):
Nice
.
So how do restroom trailerswork?
Blake Holland, Luxury Lavato (01:47):
So
with the restroom trailer, the
main question I get from clientsis how do I get water or how do
I power it?
So there's two different optionswhen you're setting one of
these up for an event.
The first option, which is kindof your ideal option would be,
is if you have a garden hosehookup and an electrical outlet
(02:10):
within 100 feet, we can justplug an extension cord right
into the outlet, run a hose andthe trailer can run off of your
power and water from your home.
So the second way is more of aself-contained option.
So like, let's say you've got a, you're having an event out in
the middle of a field somewherewhere there's just no power, no
electric.
We do have an onboard 200gallon fresh water tank that we
(02:32):
can use for the flushing of thetoilets, the sinks and
everything like that, and thenpower-wise, we just run it on a
generator, and the generator wehave is super quiet, it's very
efficient, so it's not puttingoff a lot of exhaust or noise or
anything like that.
So two options in terms of howthe trailer actually operates.
Kathy Piech-Lukas, Your Dre (02:52):
And
that's definitely a lot
different from when people thinkof a port-a-potty.
They think of the brighthighlighter color yellow or
green or blue that they see atconcerts.
That is not what we're talkingabout here today.
Blake Holland, Luxury Lavato (03:10):
No
, we are not.
No, this unit it's a five stall.
It's very nice.
The interior and exterior it'sall white.
It's got laminate floors, nicewhite vanities.
It's got laminate floors, nicewhite vanities.
It's five units.
So the women's side has threetoilets and a double sink with a
(03:33):
nice large mirror.
So you could even use it for ifpeople need to kind of get
ready, don't want to go in thehouse.
That's kind of nice too.
And then the men's side has asingle sink and it's got a
urinal and then it's got onetoilet in there as well.
Side has a single sink and it'sgot a urinal and then it's got
one toilet in there as well.
Kathy Piech-Lukas, Your Dre (03:51):
And
it's rated for events with up
to 300 people, so it can handlea substantially large event Well
and you bring up an excellentpoint.
The reason why you want arestroom trailer if you're doing
your wedding on a privateproperty, underneath a tent, in
a backyard, underneath a tent ina backyard is the house that
potentially could be on thatproperty was not designed to
have the flushes of 200 people.
(04:11):
It was not designed to have theflushes of 100 people.
It was not designed to haveflushes for 50 people,
especially with a septic system.
In particular, Septic systemsare designed to accommodate the
number of bedrooms in that home,so they're designed to
accommodate maybe 5 to 12 peopleat any given time.
(04:34):
They're not designed for largeparties and what can happen is
fortunately I've not had ithappen at a wedding.
I pray that I never have ithappen at a wedding.
But if the septic system backsup from the house and this can
be the direct result of nothaving a restroom trailer at
(04:55):
your outdoor event it backs upinto the yard and the stink from
the septic system comes up outof the ground and it just
completely it's the only thingyou're going to smell at the
wedding.
You're not going to smell food.
You're not going to smellanything.
(05:15):
It's the worst smell in theworld and it's just because
house toilets were not designedto deal with that kind of volume
.
It's a little bit different ifyou have people over for
Thanksgiving or for Christmas, because you might have maybe 20
people and a home's plumbingsystem can still accommodate
(05:37):
that, but it's not going toaccommodate, you know, 50 to a
hundred people flushing thetoilet Cause, if you think about
it, that could be an average ofa flush every 10 minutes and it
just wasn't designed to dealwith that.
Blake Holland, Luxury Lava (05:52):
Yeah
, you're exactly right.
Kathy Piech-Lukas, Your Dr (05:54):
Plus
, if you went on city water
again, what happens if thetoilets start backing up?
They may not back up into theyard, but they're going to back
up and not function and that'sgoing to create a very, very
stinky situation inside thehouse as well.
And potentially your caterercould be inside the house
(06:14):
preparing food and trying to getyour guests fed, and that could
be very awkward and very stinkyand it's not a situation you
want to deal with.
It really isn't.
(06:42):
No, I mean, you know, besidesyou know limiting traffic in
terms of, you know people comingin and out of your house.
You know, while the caterer'sin there in the kitchen, you
know you're potentially savingon a huge plumbing or septic
backup bill just by just goingahead and renting the restroom
trailer.
Oh, absolutely Well.
And the other thing too, isthat restroom trailers yours are
air conditioned and they haveheaters in them, correct?
Blake Holland, Luxury Lavat (06:52):
Yep
Sure do.
Kathy Piech-Lukas, Your Dre (06:53):
Yep
.
So whenever you have an outdoorwedding, especially in the
summertime, it gets hot, andthis is actually where having a
restroom trailer can potentiallybe a cost saver for you,
because if it's like in thenineties and your guests are
warm, they're going to want acool place to go, and you can
(07:16):
either A rent an airconditioning unit, which is
probably going to run youanywhere between $6,000 to
$8,000 for the day.
Or you can have the restroomtrailer which has an air
conditioning unit in there andguests can go in there, cool off
for 10 minutes and then comeback out.
So it actually proves to be acooling spot for you and
(07:42):
especially if it's if you have areally hot day and you just
don't have air conditioningunits in the budget, it can also
prevent heat stroke becausewhen you get up into the 95 to
you know high, high nineties, toyou know low one hundreds for
outdoor temperatures.
It's a little bit different outhere because we have have.
(08:03):
We don't have dry heat likethey have in Arizona where it
doesn't necessarily hit you asquickly.
When it's humid and it's hotit's going to hit you and you
don't want to be dealing with.
I guess having you know heatstroke or you know when it's at
the end of October it's hit ormiss, it could be very, very
warm, it could be very, verycold.
I mean I've had weddings at theend of October where you know
at nighttime it's hit or miss.
(08:24):
It could be very, very warm, itcould be very, very cold.
I mean I've had weddings at theend of October where at
nighttime it's like 40, 50degrees.
And especially your older guests.
They're going to want somewherewhere they can warm up a little
bit and when you have arestroom trailer that has that,
that's a huge advantage for yourguests as well.
Plus, it smells nice.
Blake Holland, Luxury L (08:45):
Exactly
, I'm sure.
Kathy Piech-Lukas, Your Dream (08:48):
I
was going to say you have, you
have, you have scents that comeout of your restroom trailer.
Blake Holland, Luxury Lavat (08:54):
Yep
, yeah, we've got some nice,
nice incense that we, you know, keep fresh in there, and even
you know all the cleaning, thecleaning supplies that we use.
Kathy Piech-Lukas, Y (09:07):
Everything
smells real good, so it's
honestly probably one of thebest smelling restrooms I've
ever been in.
Blake Holland, Luxury Lava (09:10):
Well
, that's a huge advantage.
Kathy Piech-Lukas, Your Dr (09:11):
It's
a, it's a definite, it's a
definite, uh, departure from theugly, ugly, stinky, stinky
porta potty that most peoplethink of when they think of, you
know, portable restrooms um.
So how?
How does it work as far asdelivery goes, when?
When does that arrive?
Blake Holland, Luxury Lavato (09:28):
So
normally most events are going
to be on a Saturday.
So typically what we would dois, for a Saturday event we
would drop off sometime onFriday, just kind of
coordinating with the clientwhen they want it dropped off,
and then we would typically pickup some time on Sunday.
But there's always exceptionsto the rule.
If you rented it for Saturdayand you still had some guests
(09:52):
that were going to be thereSunday that wanted to use it, we
could come get it on Monday.
Same thing the other way.
If you wanted it dropped off onThursday, if you were going to
have some use for it Friday andSaturday, we would do it that
way too.
So you're pretty much gettingit for the weekend.
Kathy Piech-Lukas, Your Drea (10:06):
Oh
, that's nice.
So people have the rehearsalthe day before, they'll have the
restrooms.
If they have a morning afterbrunch the day after the wedding
, they'll have the restroom.
So they can take advantage ofthat tent.
Because tent companies are thesame way, they rent them for the
weekend tent because tentcompanies are the same way, they
rent them for the weekend.
So they'll come in likeWednesday or Thursday, sometimes
(10:27):
Friday, but usually Wednesdayor Thursday.
They build the tent and thenthey pick it up on Monday.
So it's it's.
It's along the same lines as asthe rental company Wonderful.
Well, I'm so glad we we wereable to turn the stinky smells
into nice smoke by the end ofthe podcast.
Blake Holland, Luxury La (10:43):
That's
our goal.
Kathy Piech-Lukas, Your (10:44):
That's
our goal is to have your
wedding smelling beautiful, andsmelling as beautiful as it
looks.
