Speaker 2 (00:21):
You know, life can be difficult sometimes.
Breaking news right.
We all know that.
Heather knows it, I know it,but we want to remind you that,
regardless of what you are goingthrough today, god is with you.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
Yeah, he is, and I'm pretty sure that everyone has
days that feel overwhelming.
Maybe you're having a toughtime at work, or there are
difficulties in your home, oryou just feel like you're a
little bit lost.
Right now, whatever ishappening, breathe and know that
you are not alone.
God's love and power are withyou.

(00:57):
He will give you the courage toface whatever's in front of you
.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
You know breathing is such an important thing.
Just to take a few moments yes,I know it doesn't sound like
much, but just to stop wheneveryou can, whenever you think
about it, because when thingsare weighing you down, you do.
You got to find a moment to bestill breathe.
Talk to God.
Remember his word says over andover and over do not be anxious
, don't worry.

(01:22):
Don't be anxious, don't worry,don't be afraid.
And while you're sitting therewith God, just be honest, be
open.
He knows your heart.
He already knows, but he wantsto hear from you.
Tell him what's bothering you, what's got you worried, what's
overwhelming you, and then lethis peace calm your heart.
All you really need is a momentto pray in silence or a moment
to thank him, to alter yourmindset and remind you that

(01:45):
everything will be all right.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
When my husband knows that I'm worried, he'll look at
me and he will say to me baby, everything is going to be okay,
he's right.
Sometimes I just need to hearhim say it right, and then I
feel better.
And there are times, honestly,I need my heavenly father to
remind me that everything reallyis going to be okay.
Maybe it's through his word ormaybe other people in my life

(02:12):
that he uses to remind me thateverything's going to be okay,
and when I hear that from God Ido feel better, right in that
moment.
But also my outlook changes, right, and that is one of the
most powerful things that we cando have that faith that God is
working.
And maybe it is behind thescenes and we can't see what

(02:34):
he's working on, but we can knowthat he is working and he's
making a way, he's guiding oursteps.
We can hold on to that hopethat he's working out all things
for good.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
Well, heather said it .
You know, when you hear it fromGod and sometimes I think
people they're like, well, Idon't hear from God.
But that comes through a lot ofdifferent ways, through reading
his word.
It's right there in scripturesometimes the reminders that hey
, I'm with you always, you'renot alone in this.
So when someone says to me Idon't quite hear from God, I'm
like have you been in the Word?

(03:09):
And I don't mean that to soundanything other than it's a
reminder to me that I felt thatway.
Sometimes I'm not in His Wordand constantly seeking Him and
drawing nearer.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
You know, sometimes, especially at WPER, we've heard
people say gosh, that was justthe song I needed to hear.
So maybe it could also be hespeaking to you through one of
the songs you hear on WPER, anda lot of those are straight up
scripture.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
So, no matter what you're facing today and it might
be a lot, I don't knowSometimes you go to bed with it
and your first thought when youwake up is what you were dealing
with the day before.
I never forget that God isgreater than any problem or
problems that you might befacing.
Sometimes I think it'd be goodjust to have one little problem.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
Oh, my word, instead of like 150 little ones and then
one big one.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
But truly it's right there in his word.
God is greater than any problemyou'll ever face.
Ever.
He's your source of strength.
He's a helper who's always withyou, especially in times of
trouble, when you feel likegiving up.
Read his promises, go to hisword and hold onto those
promises.
Memorize them if you have to,and have faith that everything

(04:18):
really is going to be okay.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
We're honored to be able to remind you of that truth
, and if you've gotten someencouragement out of this
podcast, would you share it withsomeone who might be a little
overwhelmed and just needs tohear that everything is going to
be okay?

Speaker 2 (04:35):
Someone needs to hear that today.
If it's not you, it's someoneelse, maybe in your life.

Speaker 1 (04:40):

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
