Erin Gray (00:00):
And today I am going
to be talking about how many so
many of us might actually feelsecure on paper, like we look
really good on paper and yetfeel so much scarcity inside our
bodies, and I'm going to besharing my take on what we have
been taught what financialfreedom actually is, although it
(00:23):
doesn't always feel free in ourbodies, and what to do about it
.
Do you want to create a systemto stop avoiding your money?
Maybe you're feeling guilt andshame when it comes to your
finances.
Welcome to your Money, yourRules.
I'm Erin, a former certifiedfinancial planner and CFO, and
yet I used to avoid my money andhad fear, no matter how much we
(00:46):
had.
I can't wait to teach you how Iovercame my money avoidance and
started consistently managingmy finances in a really simple
way.
It's time to get comfortablewith money.
If you've been listening for awhile I want to say thank you.
I think podcasting is such asacred thing.
I'm in your ear twice a weekand I just want you to know that
(01:09):
I really value you and ifyou're new here, welcome.
My intention for every episodethat you listen to is to become
more self-aware.
And then take one thing, justone, because I used to be like
the ultimate consumer, but justtake one thing that I have
(01:29):
discussed in this episode, or ineach episode, and use it to
transform your life.
Knowledge is amazing, but itonly gets us so far.
It's when we actually takeaction.
That is when our life changes.
So, if you have been feelingdisconnected from your money,
maybe you it looks like youavoid QuickBooks, or you don't,
(01:52):
you know look at your books asoften, or you don't look at your
personal finances as often.
You might be skipping meetingsor like pushing them back with
your financial advisor.
Or maybe you're just feelinglike you should feel better than
you do, which, should you know,is very much coming from the
mind.
But if you know in your bodythat you want to feel better
(02:14):
than what you actually do withmoney, I want you to know that
there is nothing wrong with you.
This is what so many of myclients have actually faced when
we first work together and theycome to me and if this
resonates with you, I want to beable to support you in the one
hour one-on-one coachingsessions that we would do to.
Together, we will work onhealing the emotional and the
(02:38):
nervous system responses thatare keeping you in that cycle of
feeling the shame and the fearor the avoidance, so that you
can actually enjoy your money, like the whole point of having
money is to enjoy our money, isto circulate, it is to invest,
it is to have fun with it, is tospend it on things that we love
(03:00):
, is to allocate it.
And so all of the strategiesand the how to's in the world,
they don't matter if you don'tdeal with the deeper cause that
is creating this in your nervoussystem.
And ultimately, it is to feelsafe and to feel sufficient and
abundant with your money.
And in doing so, when you feelsafe and you feel abundant,
(03:24):
right, we have shifted theidentity of who you are, your
beliefs, around money, to besomeone who feels safe with
their money.
You can schedule a session byheading over to my website,
generatealifewelllivedcom, oryou can click the link on the
show notes and I would love tosupport you.
So let's talk about nervoussystem and financial freedom.
(03:47):
I love talking about the nervoussystem with money.
I think a lot of money mindsetyou want to call them coaches, I
don't know what to you knowlike a lot of the, the
self-development with moneymindset.
Money mindset is just one, really one third, of changing
your relationship with money.
I think a lot of it comes fromthe other third is you know your
(04:09):
spirit, god, source, universe, divine, whatever you want to say
, like your relationship withthat, and then also your body
and so many women that I workwith.
They've technically createdwhat the world would define as
financial freedom.
So, on paper, excellent networth, high net worth, right,
(04:30):
they've got the income, theinvestments, the net worth, and
yet they still operate from aplace of fear.
And many of them actually feellike that.
There's this, like they're likeone step away from losing it
all, like that is the undertonethat they feel, or that, like
some of them have shared with me, like when is the shoe going to
(04:53):
drop?
It's like this lack of trust, this lack of knowing, and this
is typically a belief that theypicked up.
You know, we all pick it upsomewhere along the way, because
in order to you know, feel thisway, we have to have this
belief somewhere, and wetypically gain beliefs from
parenting, societal conditioning, and then this creates their
(05:16):
lived experience.
So I believe financial freedom, yes, it is about numbers.
Right, it does matter Havingmore money it's a lot more fun
to have more money than to nothave money but financial freedom
is not about the numbers.
Initially, this is about safetyin the body.
And how do we know this?
Because if it was about thenumbers, like everyone tells us
(05:39):
and sells us on this idea thatit is about the numbers, what I
call the circumstance theneveryone that had millions of
dollars would feel free, safeand abundant and they would have
no worries.
And we know that this is nottrue.
This is not factual, because weknow of people myself used to
(06:00):
be this way, many of people thatI work with when they come to
me initially be this way, manyof people that I work with when
they come to me initially, manyof my circle that I am aware of,
or you know, people in mycircle that I used to hang out
with, or even currently, thatthat is not true.
That is not what theirexperience is.
And so if you're listening tothis and it is resonating with
(06:20):
you, it is because what I amsaying is probably very true for
you as well.
So let's talk about the nervoussystem, why this happens and
then how to move through that.
So, really, your brain, yournervous system, is really
designed to keep you alive.
Right, it's not necessarilymade to feel abundant.
(06:42):
If you think about where wehave come from, over the eons,
it was really of a survivalmentality.
It was get up every day.
Where are we going to find ourfood, you know, where are we
sleeping tonight?
If we were nomadic, you knowall of those things.
It was very much based onsurvival.
And if you've experienced anykind of stress or pressure or
(07:06):
trauma around money, your bodymight still be running on those
old programs, aka belief systems, even if your circumstances
have changed.
And this is exactly who I was.
Even though I changed the moneyin my bank account, I didn't
change who I was as a person, mybelief systems.
(07:26):
Right, our identity is basedoff our belief systems, our
nervous system.
And because I didn't change mynervous system and my belief
systems, the numbers increased, but who I was as a person stayed
the same.
So this shows up as it could.
It's not all inclusive, but itcould show up as like avoiding
your finances.
(07:47):
Even when there is money in thebank.
You might be feeling guilt whenyou spend on yourself.
This is very prevalent in a lotof my clients, where they feel
guilt.
It's okay to spend money onyour kids or you as a family
vacation and this also shows upas time as well but spending it
(08:07):
on yourself and I don't evenwant to say spending, I want to
say investing, investing timeand investing money in yourself
for you, not because you'veearned it, but just because you
are worthy of having it that issomething that clients I don't
want to say struggle with.
But in the beginning that is alittle bit more effort for them.
It might look like you evenover-preparing, maybe even
(08:31):
over-saving or overworking, because you don't trust that the
money is going to last.
So you are in this perpetuallike have to keep going, pushing
mentality because you think ifyou let up, that the money will
stop, or possibly you never feellike and I'm air quoting enough
is enough, is truly enough.
(08:51):
Now I want to say, on the onehand, it's always enough and on
the other side of it is likeit's never enough, but not from
a place of inadequacy or anunworthiness.
It's never enough is because weare constantly evolving and
growing right.
So when we are coming from theplace of not enough, of like
(09:15):
what I am, who I am, what I haveisn't enough, that feels very
different in the body.
I want you to pause and I wantyou to really check in with your
body right now.
That feels very different inthe body than what I have is
absolutely amazing.
I love my life right now and Ican't wait for all of this
(09:36):
abundance to continue to come myway.
Very different energy in thebody.
So this is why I thinkemotional regulation, nervous
system regulation, whatever youwant to call it, is so important
.
Because when we bring thisawareness, this compassion to
how your body is actuallyresponding, when we can actually
(09:58):
almost kind of like rise aboveor like float above and watch
what our body is doing, andrecognize like float above and
watch what our body is doing andrecognize like.
This is where I go back to whenI said originally you know it's
really one third, you know, ofyour um mindset, because the
other third is like the spirit.
It is probably even more.
It is probably not a third, third.
(10:19):
Third, it's really like spirit, soul led.
When you can look at your humanexperience from the soul, soul
led.
When you can look at your humanexperience from the soul, from
this higher perspective, andrecognize that your body is just
working from these programs andthat it is this little child
who feels fear or scared, or youknow it was.
She was doing the best that shecould with what she had.
(10:41):
You get to have more compassionand you stop judging where you
are.
So I would say, first andforemost, come from a place of
curiosity, love and compassion, stop making how you feel wrong,
like the more that we resist, the longer that it stays.
You know.
The saying is you know what youresist persists.
(11:02):
So as long as you continue tojudge how you are feeling, it's
hard to move through thatbecause you're not, you're
looking at it through the lensof it's wrong, it's not good,
it's not bad, it just is.
So when we can see that ourbodies have been doing these
things from a place ofprotection and a place of
survival, then we can look at itfrom a place of love and we can
(11:25):
learn to choose differently.
You know we can change ourbeliefs, entire belief systems,
and we can really start todecide how do I want my nervous
system to feel right?
How do I want it to feel safeand supported?
We know what it looks likeright now, so what do I want it
to look like?
So, some simple practices.
And you're always going toalways say with every client,
(11:47):
with you listening, you're goingto have to do what feels good
for your body.
We have been a society who hasoutsourced our power to everyone
outside of us, and one of thethings I love helping women do
is to return to who they are intheir innate power, their
sovereign power.
And when you start to check inwith your body, like sometimes,
(12:09):
breath work, for me it feelsamazing.
Sometimes I'm like I'm notdigging it today.
You don't.
There is no prescribedchecklist that you need to do.
It's how do you want to getinto your body and how do you
want to feel supported andnourish.
So I'm listing some ideas foryou to take, for you to play
with, for you to see if it feelsgood for you to also try other
(12:31):
things besides what's listedhere.
So breath work or orienting, which is basically if you're
sitting down to do your money.
Before you do that, what you cando is like name five things
that you see in your room orwherever you are, that you're
sitting down, because what thatdoes is it takes you to the
present and also nervous systemwise you.
(12:53):
You see that like your nervoussystem is able to feel like,
okay, I'm here right now, um, soorienting grounding, like going
out, walking in the grass, likewe are nature, one with nature.
We came from nature.
So like doing things that aresupportive to you, in addition
to adding in the mindset and thespirit work.
(13:14):
So this will help you to startcreate new experiences, right?
So when you think about and Iwould also journal, you know
we're so quick to be like, okay,I want to, I want to feel
differently about money, butwe're not really clear on how we
feel right now.
So how do you actually feelright now in your body with
money?
(13:35):
Journal that then look at, okay, how do I want to be with money,
you know, using affirmations, and you don't have to use them
over and over again, because ifyou don't believe it, the more
that you use the affirmations, you're just confirming the lack
of it.
But look at something like Ican learn how to be with money
in a different way.
I can make choices from a calmplace instead of making them
(13:58):
from rushed or pressure.
You know, I don't have tocontinue to live in fight or
flight.
So just start to journal andlook at what are some of the
ways that you are currently withmoney.
What do you want to be withmoney?
And then embodying that?
It's one thing.
To journal, it's another.
To be like okay, this is abelief that I want to have.
Now go take action on that Like.
If you want to feel calm withmoney, what would be the action
(14:19):
that you would take when youwould sit down with money?
If you notice your nervoussystem getting a little bit
heightened?
You would then calm it down.
You would put your hand on yourheart.
You would say I feel, you know,I'm learning how to feel calm
with money.
I'm safe in this moment, rightnow.
I'm okay to feel my feelings inthis moment.
So when your body feels safe, you are able to make, because
(14:40):
you aren't in this survivalstate.
You're more in this creativeplane.
You are able to make more clear, more grounded decisions.
You begin to trust yourselfagain, or more.
You spend with intention, because you have slowed down
because you aren't in thisrushed and pressured state,
you're able to really receivewithout guilt.
You start to experience moneyin a way that actually feels
(15:04):
peaceful, it feels joyful, itfeels calm, it actually feels
what freedom financial freedomis supposed to feel like.
I think, and this is why Ialways say, that safety in the
body is the foundation forlasting financial freedom.
You know, the goal isn't to getto some number to then be
(15:24):
financially free.
That's very conditionalthinking.
It is to live and breathe thisevery day as your money
continues to grow and as youcontinue to grow.
So how fun is it to get, togenerate and have all the money
that you have if you're afraidto circulate it in ways that
(15:45):
feel good to you and your soul?
Like money is a tool, it ismeant to circulate, it is.
I heard this the other day Idon't know if I'd ever heard it
before and someone was sayinglike money's like manure, I'm
just spreading it all around, and that I mean, what would we,
what would we create in theworld if we actually believed
that were to be true, if weliterally looked at money like
(16:09):
manure, it's like oh, it's meantto just be spread around and
enjoyed and see what comes fromthat investment.
And when I say investment, Idon't necessarily mean like
investing in the stock market.
I mean investing in yourself, investing in your children,
investing in your community, like, how do we want to invest
our money, circulate our money?
(16:34):
No-transcript has been a numberversus a feeling in the body,
and then the number followsbecause of it.
Notice how you feel in yourbody, around your money and what
your nervous system practicesthat you already have in place,
that you are committed to doingon a daily basis, so that you
can teach your body, yournervous system, to feel safe
(16:57):
with money you know.
Think about what are yourtriggering points, what are the
things that you know that inthis moment, right now, kind of
get your nervous system a littlebit heightened.
What are those?
Are you able to pinpoint those?
And I would say and encourageyou to start working on those.
How can you bring moregroundedness to it?
How can you bring more calm?
(17:17):
How can you bring morecompassion and love for those
parts of you?
And if this resonated with youand if you know deep down that
you're ready to stop managingyour money from a place of fear
or avoidance, I would love tosupport you.
Nothing changes until weactually change.
In order to create a differentexperience, a different life for
(17:41):
ourself, we have to takedifferent action, which
ultimately comes from ourthinking and our belief systems.
So, in our work together, I amgoing to teach you and guide you
how to rewire your body andyour mind to respond to money so
that you can finally enjoy itand use it and circulate it like
(18:02):
how you were actually meant to,and we'll do it in a way that
feels so fun and simple and easyand true to who you are.
You know, one of the thingsthat I just love doing is really
connecting with each client, because the advice that I might
give for one client iscompletely the exact opposite
that I would give for anotherand you for another and anywhere
(18:22):
in between with other clients, and that is because it is based
on who they are, what their soulis asking for, what their
intuition is telling them, andso there is no one size fits all
.
This is the plan, this is thestrategy, this is how we do it.
It's really coming back homeand connecting to who you are,
your essence, like your mostvibrant self.
(18:45):

more calm and confident withtheir money so that they can

I think it's a I don't want tosay a trickle down effect, but
(19:30):
it's just an outward of like inevery way, when we show up as
our biggest, brightest selves,we empower others to do the same
.
Okay, I'll see you in the nextepisode.
