Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello friends, welcome to a new episode of your
Motivational Gen Z andMillennial Expert Podcast.
I am your host, my name is DrJason Wiggins and it is great to
be here today.
I hope everybody is having awonderful weekend.
If you're still at work oryou're just starting your week,
well, it's going to be a greatweek and I appreciate you taking

(00:23):
the time to listen.
Today.
We are a motivational podcastthat caters to millennials, gen
Z, you know, baby boomers, alphas, but we focus on
millennials and Gen Z.
But the reality is is if youwant to be motivated, if you

(00:43):
want to be better, reality is isif you want to be motivated, if
you want to be better, thenthis is a great podcast that
will hopefully be able to helpyou get on the right track.
Today's podcast, the episode,is about life, is about the
unknown.
Fear is part of the unknown ispart of the unknown and,

(01:11):
specifically, neophobia isspecific to today's topic,
because it is the concern andthe unwillingness to try new
things which, in a world whereit is full of unknown, that
could be a very scary thing tothink about, especially if you
suffer from the fear of theunknown and, as a motivated Gen

(01:32):
Z, millennial or whatever youfall from within that spectrum.
It is about the willingness towant to do better in life, but
if you feel like you are fearful, that you're unknown and you
don't know what to do and you'reactually reducing your

(01:53):
opportunities of betteringyourself in your life.
So today's topic will reallyrevolve around professionalism,
personalism, regarding how toovercome fear and how to also be
able to anticipate the part ofthe fear that you have.

(02:14):
So we're going to suggest waysthat will help you be able to,
if not overcome theunwillingness to try new things.
At least it puts you in a stepin the right direction or helps
you help others that you say, oryou notice that maybe they have
an unwillingness to want to trynew things or they're very

(02:37):
hesitant to try new things.
And with that hesitancy andwith the hesitancy it's about,
if I try it, am I going to fail?
If I try it, am I going to getrejected?
We have all been in the datingscene or something where we're

(03:07):
up for a big promotion and maybewe don't want to put our name
in the hat because we're afraidof what's going to happen.
Or, like I said, if you want toask a girl or a guy to a dance
or to a party or to go out to acoffee shop, but you're afraid
to ask why Not?
Because you are unwilling to doit.
You're afraid of the rejectionof what they will say when you
ask them.

(03:28):
Growing up, one of my biggestfears was to call a girl on the
phone.
I would go through it a hundredtimes in my head before I
either did it or I didn't.
I had a lot of fears growing up.
You know, sometimes the fearprobably would have been good.

(03:50):
It would have helped me not dothings I shouldn't have did.
But there were certain things Ihad fear on is.
I didn't like to not succeedand I would put my place in
questionable times where maybethat fear would have been good.
But the reality is is.
We are all human and life, as Imentioned on the onset, is

(04:14):
about the unknown.
There are only a few guaranteesin life.
One we're all going to die.
Two, we're all going to paytaxes, and so there are key
points that, no matter what youdo, you're still going to do
those things.
Life is about not having anyguarantees except the effort or

(04:40):
the willingness that you'regoing to put into getting where
you want to be.
We've talked in numerouspodcasts about change, change
management, the difficulty ofchange.
There's even a phobia forchange.
Obviously, that is evendifferent than neophobia, which
is, again, the unwillingness totry new things.
But you know, the importantthing is to realize what your

(05:06):
strengths are, what yourweaknesses are, and if your
weaknesses is, you are afraid orunwilling to try new things
with the fear of rejection, thefear of failure.
That is not uncommon.
It's a form of anxiety thatunfortunately, it does happen.
Sometimes it's hereditary andsometimes you develop it over

(05:27):
time or sometimes you even haveit from the onset of birth.
The important part is knowingthat you're willing to accept it
.
For a long time growing up, Ididn't know or understand or
think that I had ADD.
I always had the symptoms, Iguess, but I didn't realize it.

(05:48):
I would forget things, I wouldleave something here, something
there.
I would always start one task, start another task, start
another task.
I would always finish them, butI would finish them, you know,
by working on the other onegenerally, and that was how I
was able to work through theprocess.
Not everybody can do that.

(06:08):
A lot of people will start anew project or read it, start
reading a book and then they'llstop and they'll jump to a new
project, a new book, and I'vebeen guilty of doing that.
So now I'm willing, and morecognitive, to start reading a
book and reading it all the waythrough, and that is important,

(06:33):
because you want to be able tosay you finished something.
You want to start something andsay you finished.
So let's talk about us asindividuals.
If you're listening to thispodcast, I can almost bet that
you are highly motivated, intelligent and you have the
desire to be a better person.

(06:55):
Those are three big wins whenyou're starting out.
But we all have our weaknesses, and our weaknesses are the
things that we're willing, andhopefully willing, to work on.
And so when we talk about thefear of rejection, the fear of

(07:16):
failure, the unwillingness totry new things, we have to
figure out how do we cope, howdo we acknowledge that we have
these fears?
We have these concerns.
Like I had to realize, I had ADD.
I had to get checked byspecialists and they ran me
through a bunch of questions andthey stated yeah, more than

(07:38):
likely, you have a very mildcase of ADD.
You don't really need to doanything regarding it because
you've learned how to functionover the years and that is what
we're going to talk about todayis how do you function, how do
you improve, when you have sucha fear?
Number one, the number one wayof doing this is to first

(08:01):
identify you have a problem.
Very simple Again.
My example earlier I had toidentify.
I had ADD, even though Iprobably knew it on the onset
all in my mind.
I just never really thought itwas a problem.
But first I had to identify it.
And then, once you identify it,you say you know what.

(08:25):
I acknowledge I have this.
It's kind of holding me backfrom doing some of the things I
want to do, but I'm willing toat least acknowledge it and move
forward.
And the second one would be onceyou identify, you have gradual
exposure.
So you start to realize if youhave a fear of the unwillingness

(08:49):
to do new things, then you haveto realize that you know what.
I'm always doing the same thingover and over and over, without
challenging myself, withoutgiving myself the opportunity to
improve professionally andpersonally.
So I slowly need to get intothe sync of things and start

(09:09):
trying to do some simple steps.
So, for example, you want tofind something that is that if
you fail out, it's not a bigdeal.
Maybe you want to startcrocheting.
You grab some yarn, you startcrocheting and it's a very
simple process you read, youlearn about it and you do it.
And it's a very simple processyou read, you learn about it and

(09:31):
you do it.
Now I have never crocheted.
I have no idea where that camefrom.
I know my mom does it, so maybeI thought about that.
But crocheting is just a simpletype of activity that'll allow
you to do something new withoutfeeling rejection, without
feeling failure.
And then the third part ofovercoming fear is mindful

(09:54):
practice.
Start doing some of the thingsthat help you, you know, like
meditation by breathing, bydrinking a beverage of uh, you
know ice tea, a coffee somethingthat will help you relax.
Maybe coffee is not the bestrelaxation for me.

(10:14):
Coffee is my absolute go-to, soI get it, but again, it's
something that's gonna kind ofput you at peace.
Maybe it's listening to someclassical music, some love music
.
That will really help you getin the mood to get what you want
done.
And then, so keep in mind thatyou've got to practice, you've

(10:34):
got to.
They have a lot of literatureout there.
They have a lot of books outthere about.
You know overcoming anxiety.
You know the behavioral therapythat you can have.
These are mindful practicesthat just sometimes getting tips
online, will help you getthrough these difficult times.

(10:56):
Number four is visualization.
Imagine navigating through yourfears.
Imagine yourself doingsomething that you just can't
normally see yourself doing it.
Maybe you've been at the samejob for 10, 15, 20 years and
you're afraid or unwilling totry something new.

(11:17):
So visualize yourself.
Are you happy in your currentjob?
Maybe, if you go to a new job,you are super happy.
You have promotionalopportunities.
You're making more monetaryvalue.
You're getting opportunities.
You're making more monetaryvalue.
You're getting bonuses.
You're being more appreciated, whatever it may be.
You're visualizing the onset ofthat success that is right

(11:40):
there waiting for you.
That success is going to allowyou the opportunity to do
something you haven't alreadydone.
But being successful doing it,feeling like you, are a big part
of the process of improvingyourself.

(12:01):
Therefore, if you start out byidentifying your fears, then you
get some gradual exposure andthen you start using mindful
practice and ultimately, if youstart visualizing, you start
visualizing the concept of beingable to see yourself being

(12:22):
successful, being in thatpromotional opportunity, having
more money, doing the thingsthat really make you happy, then
maybe overcoming your fear isgoing to be the best thing that
will help catapult you withinyour career, within your family
life and whatever it may be.

(12:44):
And that, right there, is thekey focus of those first four.
And then, if you still arehaving difficulty, you know,
challenge, challenge yourself, challenge the, the unhelpful
things that are going on in yourlife, remove those barriers.
So if you see that these arechallenges, these are barriers,

(13:06):
these are not helping you getwhere you want to be, then it's
a perfect opportunity toovercome those and be able to do
things that you want to do.
And if you're still havingdifficulties, seek support, seek
support.
There's nothing wrong withgetting professional help.
You know what?
Sometimes it's just talking tosomebody and talking to somebody

(13:27):
that maybe has similar type ofexperiences that you do.
Maybe they do somethingdifferent.
There's a lot of groups outthere for people that struggle
with certain things.
There's aa, alcohol, anonymous.
It's one of those things thatif you are struggling with
alcohol or addiction, then youhave a support group that are
like-minded individuals thathave experienced those same

(13:47):
things, so helping you overcomeyour problems, your issues,
whatever it may be.
You have to find and seeksupport sometimes.
And then my absolute favorite,my absolute favorite, is
physical activity.
Physical activities helps getthe endorphins going, helps you
find a way to push through maybesome kind of woefulness that

(14:12):
you may be having and maybeyou're just not feeling great,
but once you do something thatmakes you happy physically, that
helps you be able to make animpact on yourself, your body.
Eat right, get plenty of sleepyou hear all of these things,
but life about the unknown isnot just the unwillingness to

(14:34):
try new things.
It's also the ability to dothings right, to take care of
your body.
We only have one body.
You might have heard thestatement your body is your
temple.
Well, this is our temple.
Our temple is to make it thevery, very best we can be, and
then that helps usprofessionally, personally and

(14:56):
for us to ultimately be a betteryou.
Today we have talked about thelife of the unknown, that
neophobia, the unwillingness totry new things.
We talked about ways that willhelp you or people you know be

(15:17):
able to overcome these type ofphobias and fears and rejection
and failure.
And first it starts with, as wesaid, recognizing it.
That's the number one thing.
Once you recognize it, you canthen make an impact, and making
that impact will make youstronger, a more individual

(15:40):
that's going to be able to domore, be more accountable for
our actions.
And when we talk aboutaccountability for actions,
we're talking about eating rightvitamins, the correct amount of
sleep, continuing educatingourselves.
That is the difference betweenthe individuals that are
listening to this podcast andmaybe others that are not

(16:00):
interested in becoming a betterversion of themselves.
Why Maybe they don't take careof their body, they don't eat
right, they don't take the rightvitamins, they don't get the
right sleep, they don't continueto educate themselves?
Well, these are the key thingsand the key factors that are
going to improve our overalllife.
So I ask you this questiontoday.

(16:22):
I ask you this question todayTell me, if you wanted to do one
thing right now that you'venever tried before and you think
there is a path to do it, whatwould that path?
Or I should say, what would thatbe and what path would you want
to take to get there?
So I guess for me, if there isanything that I want to do, I

(16:47):
would say, you know, maybe.
Oh boy, you know, I I have tothink of that same question
myself.
I mean, I think the one thingis, I'd want to be a better cook
.
I should.
I would want to take the stepsto being a better cook,
visualizing being a better cookand doing the things that are
going to get me there.
And so what is yourvisualization?

(17:07):
What do you think that youwould want to do to improve
yourself, to get to do that onething that you've never done
before?
It would like to try?
Remember, we cannot do somethingwithout trying.
Sometimes it's trying a lot ofdifferent things to find out
something that we like.
It's like my eight year old son.
We're not going to just givehim one, two, three things and
he's going to like them forever.

(17:28):
He's going to eight-year-oldson we're not going to just give
him one, two, three things andhe's going to like them forever.
He's going to do one, maybe, like it, maybe not stop doing it
, find something else.
That's the same thing you haveto find in life for the things
you want to do.
If you want to exercise, what'sthat type of exercise you like
to do?
How is it fun?
How is it motivating you to bea better you, to be a physically

(17:50):
better you?
So today I hope you got somekey points out of this and
realize that we need tosometimes put our foot forward
and find a way and find awillingness to try new things,
Because if you're hesitant indoing new things, doing new

(18:13):
challenges, then you're onlyreducing your ability to be
successful and to be a betteryou.
So I want to thank everybodytoday for listening to the
podcast.
Please feel free to subscribeor like or share this podcast if

We want to be able to touch asmany people out there that we

(18:34):
can help, that get motivated, that feel good.

motivated, then I haven't donemy job and I need to do better.
So I'm going to continue towork on my craft as a person

meantime, I want to thankeverybody again.
