First and foremost, I want tothank the listeners.
(00:21):
I appreciate you and everybodythat's reached out.
Millennial FeedSpot has ratedour podcast the number 12
podcast in the world as aMillennial podcast.
So again, thank you forFeedSpot for naming your
(00:42):
motivational Gen Z andMillennial Expert podcast number
12 in the world.
So thank you very much.
Well, first and foremost, I'mexcited to be here and let's get
started.
Let's skip this.
Let's get our heads right andget moving forward.
I've got my nice cup of teahere and I'm ready to settle in
(01:05):
and get going.
So today's podcast is going tobe about success versus desire
of millennials and Gen Zs.
We know that both of thesegroups are extremely intelligent
.
They've been through a lot Inthe time.
Specifically, gen Z has beenthrough some of the most turmoil
(01:28):
, but millennials have also beenpart of the equation, but at
happier times.
They've had a great economy attimes, but Gen Z has seen
something of opposite.
It has not been a good economy.
It is now time to startthinking about our success
(01:51):
versus desire, and we ask whatdoes that truly mean?
Does it have something to dowith mental health?
Does it have something to dowith being proactive in life or
not being proactive in life, oris it a combination of
everything?
And so that's what we're goingto talk about today, and then
we're also going to go over whatquotes that famous people
(02:17):
stated that have to do withmillennials and Gen Z versus
success versus desire, and we'vegot three great quotes one by
Michael Jordan, one by NapoleonHill and one by Ayan Raun.
So we'll get to those, and thenwe'll also have our what would
(02:38):
you do moment, and then we'llleave you with just more
motivation to get your daystarted right or, if you're in
the middle of the day, continueto keep your day moving forward.
So that's how we're going tostart today.
We're going to talk aboutsuccess versus desire and many
(03:00):
of the elements of why Gen Z andmillennials, maybe, are not
seeing the success that youwould like to see.
Is it the lack of effort?
Is it the lack of persistence?
Is it the lack of desire, or isit just not being confident?
Maybe it's some of these, maybeit's none of these, but we will
(03:23):
dive into those today as well.
So have you ever wondered whysome people never seem to make
any progress in life?
Well, it might be because ofbad habits.
The truth is, our daily habitscan have a direct impact on how
(03:47):
we live our lives and how ourlives turn out.
Our lives don't turn outbecause of fate.
Fate is an outcome, but it'snot how you get there.
It's not the success that ittakes to get there.
It's about being able to do theright things, to have the right
(04:09):
habits.
So we're about to dive into thenot successful, not so
successful habits of individualswho just can't seem to get
ahead.
Don't blame me, don't blameyour friend, don't blame your
teacher, don't blame all thesepeople that are getting ahead.
(04:29):
Of each and every one of us, wehave a direct impact on their
success in our life.
We're not here to criticize orjudge anybody.
I'm not here to criticize orjudge anyone.
We're just looking at whatpitfalls that we can help others
(04:51):
dodge, to help them keep thelies moving forward, to help
keep me, keep my life movingforward.
So let's dive into these habitsthat are sabotaging people.
We know, maybe it's sabotagingme, maybe it's you, maybe it's
your family member, it's afriend.
(05:12):
But these are the things youwant to avoid, and one of the
first and foremost ones that youwant to avoid is not setting
clear goals.
Do you ever notice that somepeople just are kind of drifting
around with no inkling of whatto do, how to do?
(05:35):
I mean, it's okay if you have alapse, you know, within your
life for six months, maybe ayear, as you try to figure
things out.
We all have a tough road.
Gen Z and Millennials haveexperienced these tough roads,
so we'll have Baby Boomers andGen X.
But it's up to us to decide howwe're gonna set the goals up in
(05:58):
our lives, because there has tobe a clear vision, there has to
be purpose, there has to begoals.
You know what you want toachieve, but you have to have a
roadmap to get there.
On the other hand, it's aboutlacking clarity.
If you have dreams, dreams aregreat.
(06:21):
I love dreams.
Dreams are about being able tomake an impact, being able to
make a desired goal a fruition, but they have to be concrete
goals.
Remember, without a cleardestination in mind, how can we
(06:43):
get there?
So, if you want to avoid notgetting ahead in life, start
simply by stating the goal, writing it down and then simply
moving forward and achievingthat goal, taking the desired
steps to achieve that goal.
So setting goals is a toppriority.
(07:07):
What do other unsuccessfulindividuals do?
They always say be careful ofdoing this, be careful of doing
that, you don't want to berisking this, you don't want to
be risking that.
The most successful businesses, business people in this world
they did one thing.
They had one thing in commonthey had risk, they appropriated
(07:34):
the right risk and sometimesthey failed.
They failed many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many
times within their life on somebusinesses.
Some of the most successfulpeople in the world had
significant failing ventures andthat means sometimes you have
(07:55):
to figure out how to not avoidrisk.
Risk is not a bad thing.
Taking calculated risk is apart of life and it's essential
for growth.
Yeah, nobody likes to step outof their comfort zone.
I've had many occasions wherethe last thing I wanted to do
(08:15):
was get in front of somebody andget out of my comfort zone.
But if I didn't take a risk, then what am I going to gain by
it?
Sacrifices and risk.
Happen that they have to happensometimes.
So remember no risk, no reward.
(08:36):
So always playing it safe andavoiding risk.
Ultimately, we might be holdingourself back.
We can not let fear Impact whatwe want to do in life.
Fear the only thing fearguarantees is you don't do the
(08:58):
things you want to do.
You don't do the things youneed to do.
That's what fear does.
One of the key ones isProcrastination.
We all know it, we've all doneit, but that right there is a
significant Hedrance toachieving what we want.
(09:20):
What is procrastination?
It's about I'm going to do this.
It's all about lip servicewithout the backing of action.
Unsuccessful people findthemselves stuck in a hamster
wheel.
They just go round and roundand round and round and the task
pile up and, before they knowit, they don't get why they want
(09:45):
why?
Because they're overwhelmed.
They struggle because ofprocrastination.
I'm gonna go to school, I'mgonna do this, I'm gonna do that
, I'm gonna better myself.
They set deadlines.
They don't do anything about it.
So how do you move forward?
You have to make subtle andsmall changes.
(10:05):
Break down the larger tasks andmake them in the smaller a man,
manageable ones, set deadlines,prioritize.
Hey, if it was easy, everybodywould be doing it.
So if you find yourself Notgetting tasks done, pushing them
aside, hitting the snoozebutton every two minutes and not
(10:30):
getting up to 25, 30 minuteslater, every single day, over a
week time period, you've addedthree and a half hours to what
you could have achieved duringthat time.
So, right off the bat, we talkedabout the problem not setting
clear goals.
We talked about Avoiding risk, when sometimes calculated risk
(10:53):
are nothing ventured, nothinggained.
We talked about procrastination.
Procrastination has been kingfor so many years for so many
people.
You've got to stop the hamsterwheel.
So if you know people like this, make sure they stop the
hamster wheel from going aroundand around and around.
Make sure they jump off thehamster wheel, start taking
(11:16):
smaller, manageable tasks andlet them see them begin to
thrive.
What's the old saying when youdon't learn from your mistakes?
Learning from your mistakes isabout Understanding what you did
wrong and not repeating thosemistakes.
(11:36):
Think about Thomas Edison.
He invented the light bulbafter a thousand unsuccessful
attempts on Projects that didn'twork, on experiments that
didn't work.
He failed so many times and oneof the most famous Statements
he ever made, among many Ididn't fail a thousand times.
(11:58):
The light bulb was an inventionwith a thousand steps because
all of those experiences, whathe learned from, allowed him to
be able to be successful byinventing the light bulb.
Remember, mistakes are going tohappen, we're all going to make
(12:18):
them, but what separatessuccessful people from all the
rest Is how do you respond?
Do you put your head down?
You shake your head and youwalk a lot, a lot.
Walk away and wonder, ah,bummer, I failed, I'm done, I
quit.
Or do you put your head downand you continue to grind to
(12:41):
make that success a reality?
So the next time you make amistake, remembers Thomas
Edison's words I didn't fail athousand times.
The light bulb was an inventionwith a thousand steps.
Here's one that most peopledon't believe Is a hindrance to
(13:04):
success within your life.
They don't appreciate what theyhave.
Think about all the successesthat you've had over time, think
about all the achievementsyou've had.
But what about happens when youjust sit there and dwell On the
negatives?
I wish I could have did this.
(13:26):
I wish I could have did that.
Some of the most incredibletalented individuals may not
have ever achieved their successbecause they didn't celebrate
the small wins, they didn'tunderstand the success along the
way that ultimately Made themwho they are today, made them
(13:51):
that wonderful, talentedindividual that now has success.
Gratitude is so impactful, soPowerful, because it shifts us
from Our focus from what we lackto what we have, meaning we're
thankful for everything we have.
(14:14):
That's what's important.
So we've talked about gratitude.
Let's talk about, you know, other important aspects.
These are about taking care ofwho we are as individuals.
What does that mean?
And I struggled with this.
I was working 70 hours a week.
(14:34):
I was not taking care of myself, health-wise Health wise is so
important.
Why?
Because you need your sleep, you need to recharge your
batteries, you need to eatnutritious food.
In the past, I've worked withpeople that Didn't prioritize
health, and you know what itshowed they had health issues.
(14:55):
Why do you have health issues?
Because you don't take care ofyourself.
So how good can you be toothers when you don't take care
of yourself?
You work long hours, you eatjunk food and you don't get any
exercise.
So what happens?
Your health takes a backseat.
Well, if you want to be thebest Person you can be,
(15:19):
achieving the success you wantto have, then you have to have
the ability to prioritize yourhealth.
Me personally, my schedule isvery busy now, but I make sure I
find the time at least fourtimes a week to prioritize my
health and that's working out, eating right.
(15:42):
Eating right should be a dailyactivity, but working out can be
four or five times a week ifthat's all the time you had, and
that is okay.
Don't neglect your health.
Take care of the mind, the body.
It's not just mental health,it's physical health.
It's the awareness of who weare and what kind of impact we
(16:07):
can make on others.
But you got to start by eatinghealthier, exercising regular.
If you failed in your NewYear's resolutions, if you
started going to the gym and youstop, don't wait again to 2025.
Get started.
Everybody's left the gym now,so there's plenty of opportunity
(16:28):
to work out.
So if you got frustratedthere's too many people to gym,
well, we're almost eight weeksinto the new year and everybody
is now gone.
So get back in the gym andprioritize your health.
What and what's important?
One of the most negating factorsthat is out there for the
(16:52):
hindrance to be in a success youknow of never moving forward in
life.
This one is a key one.
Stop blaming others if you knowpeople that are blaming others
for why they haven't succeeded, why somebody got a promotion
versus them, why people continueto move forward in their
careers and you see people thatdon't.
(17:14):
There is a common denominatorbetween unsuccessful people and
why they're not achieving whatthey want to achieve.
It's they continue to blameothers for their failure.
We're all gonna fail.
We're all gonna fail.
There's not one person that'sever not failed.
(17:38):
When things go wrong, it is easyto point blame the point
fingers.
It's their fault, it's hisfault, it's it's her fault.
It's that, you know.
It's everybody's fault.
They don't take responsibilityfor themselves.
Well, they also say millennialsand Gen Z are part of that
problem.
But again, I think that's amisnomer.
I think that goes through allparties.
(18:00):
That goes for baby boomers, genX, gen Z and millennials.
Everybody that's unsuccessfultends to blame others.
They want to sabotage otherssuccess instead of celebrating
their wins and how they can moveforward and be successful.
It's just an excuse.
(18:22):
When you blame others For yourown failures, it kills progress.
Hey, if we screw up, own it.
It's not somebody else's fault.
We all make mistakes.
We have to own it.
I mean, I've been guilty ofthat more times than I'd like to
say.
My wife will say that at timeswhere I tend to blame others,
(18:47):
when it was my mistake, and manytimes she's right.
When I make the mistakes, Ineed to own up to them and
everybody does.
One of the other importantfactors is the fear of change.
Change is hard.
Change can be very fearful.
(19:07):
Why?
Because it's the unknown.
It's what's in it for me andhow can this mess things up for
me.
So when you are not comfortablewith change, it's okay, because
generally most people areunsuccessful people.
They fear change.
Successful people, they fearchange.
But the difference is youovercome change, you figure out
(19:35):
a way to get around it, youfigure out how to challenge it.
It's a part of life.
Change is Invitable.
More times than not you willhave to change.
So I know personally I've hadto embrace change.
It's either that fight orflight method Either you run
towards the burning building oryou run away from the burning
building.
(19:56):
You know.
I think we all understand thatTo be successful in life, you
have to embrace change.
Change happens all the time.
So, again, if you know somebodythat struggles with change, you
know, put your arm around themand say, hey, it's gonna go be
okay.
We've been there before.
(20:18):
I've got two more that I'd liketo share what is Unsuccessful.
People don't value time.
Guess what?
We all have 1,400 and 40minutes of the day, 24 hours a
day and 18 hours of the day, and86,400 seconds in a day.
(20:42):
It's what we do in that timethat makes the difference.
One of the most preciouscommodity in life is time.
It don't matter how rich youare, how much money you have.
You have just as much time assomebody that has no money.
There is no difference when theplaying field is 100% equal.
(21:09):
When time is gone, it's gone.
When you waste time, it'swasted, it's gone.
So the one thing that is themost valuable that you can't buy
is time.
If you ask somebody that'sextremely rich with money, they
would ask it would state I wishI had more time.
(21:33):
When people are on theirdeathbed and counting their last
moments in life, I wish I hadmore time.
Time wasted is ultimately awasted opportunity.
Remember all time, all time.
(21:54):
No time waits for no one.
Again, time waits for no one,and there's not too many ways to
get around that.
So time is precious and so youwant to utilize that time as
much as you can.
And the last one I want to talkabout is not asking for help.
(22:19):
Asking for help is the numberone way to form alliances with
others that share the same typeof passion to getting things
done.
They share the camaraderie ofwanting to be successful.
Because guess what, when youask for help, it doesn't mean
(22:43):
you're weak.
What it means is you're willingto understand that we all have
limitations and thoselimitations we all.
Just have to be able to find away for somebody to help resolve
those limitations.
Success isn't easy and it's notsupposed to be.
(23:05):
Some of the best and mostsuccessful individuals have
mentors.
Even the, even presidents ofthe United States have mentors.
Many people have mentors.
Why?
Because if you want something,go after it.
Don't give up on the first signof difficulty.
It takes hard work, dedicateddedication and persistence.
(23:31):
Therefore, you have to be ableto ask for help.
It does not show signs ofweakness.
It does not measure yourlimitations.
It allows you to grow.
So let's talk about these again.
Again, there was 10 of them, and they were.
(23:51):
They don't set clear goals.
Unsuccessful people avoid risk.
Unsuccessful peopleprocrastinate.
Unsuccessful people don't learnfrom their mistakes.
They don't appreciate what theyhave.
They don't take care of theirhealth.
(24:13):
They blame others for theirfailures.
They don't value time, theyfear change and they don't ask
for help.
These are the commondenominators to those who fail,
and the one thing I did want tocover is, besides the Thomas
(24:35):
Edison quote that I already gaveyou, there's three of them that
are extremely insightful.
They're impactful.
They should help help youthrough your daily tasks when
you have questions about what issuccess versus failure and how
can I overcome?
I failed over and over and overagain in my life and that's why
(25:00):
I succeed.
This was by Michael Jordan.
The second one when you desiresare strong enough, you will
appear to possess superhumanpowers to achieve.
This is by Napoleon Hill.
When your desires are strongenough, you will appear to
(25:22):
possess superhuman powers toachieve.
And last one, by Ian Ron.
A creative man is motivated bythe desire to achieve, not by
the desire to beat others.
What does that mean?
It means concentrating on thetask of what you want and how
(25:45):
you want to win.
So we talked today about thesuccess versus desire and the 10
unsuccessful habits that willprevent us moving forward in our
life.
(26:05):
And what would you do moment isreally about those around you
If you see somebody in thathamster wheel and they're
running and running and runningand they can't get out the
hamster wheel and they continueto do the same things over and
over and over, while expecting adifferent result, which we know
is the definition of insanity.
(26:26):
And you see them doing that.
How are you going to approachthem?
How are you going to help them?
Are you going to help themdevelop a game plan?
Are you going to have them comeup with their own ideas on what
they can do?
What are their goals?
What are their desires?
How are they going to createthe opportunity that could be in
(26:47):
front of them if they choosesuccess over failure?
So that is the what would youdo moment.
And me, I would put my handaround them and I would ask them
why do you think you continueto fail?
And they will give you ananswer, and whatever that answer
is, then you say it's time tochange.
(27:11):
Now, what are you going to doabout it and how are you going
to set it up and what things canyou do to make yourself better?
Those are kind of the thingsthat I would state with advice
to those individuals.
One of the things that we alltalk about in life is about
motivation.
What does motivation mean toyou?
(27:33):
Well, motivation to me meanswhatever is in my way that I
want to achieve, then I need todefine a path to be successful.
If you ask a kid how do theyget to where they want to be,
and you know what they'll tellyou I'll try harder.
(27:54):
Well, trying hard is good, butyou have to set clear and
defined goals about how you wantto achieve.
That's why Michael Jordanstated I failed over and over
and over again in my life.
That's why I succeed.
That's why I succeed.
The best baseball players in theworld can't hit the ball three
(28:15):
out of every 10 times.
That, right there, shows youthat that is a game of failure.
Well, life is a game of failure.
It's how many times you'regoing to get up and answer the
bell.
You're in a heavyweight fight.
You're trading punches.
You're knocking each other down.
Who's the last one standing?
(28:37):
Well, it's the one that doesn'tgive up and keeps punching back
.
And that is our motivation inlife to keep punching back.
Don't be the punching bag, butbe the one that keeps punching.
Give yourself a puncher'schance to be standing when that
bell rings and be in.
The winner, and the only winner, is the one that defines their
(29:00):
own success in life by notblaming others, and that is a
key point to be successful inour life.
So I hope you enjoyed today'spodcast.
The podcast, again, wasdiscussing success versus
failure and what unsuccessfulpeople do and never move forward
(29:26):
in life.
