Speaker 1 (00:00):
Friends, welcome to another episode of your
Motivational Gen Z andMillennial Expert Podcast.
I am your host, my name is DrJason Wiggins and it is
fantastic to be here.
Welcome everyone.
I hope everybody's having agreat day.
This podcast is for millennials, gen Zs and those who want to be

(00:24):
motivated to strive for more,to know their worth, to be able
to move forward in a way that iscontinue to be progressing in
life.
And when you're stagnant inlife, then that is when you have
to find a way to get back inthe groove.

(00:46):
And that is what we're here todo.
We're here to get you back inthe groove.
Now, of course, metaphoricallythat sounds great, but if it
happens to be, you needmotivation for some business
ideas, to get your homework donein school, to go cook dinner,
to go do errands, to get thatextra training, to go to work,

(01:09):
whatever it may be.
We are here with yourmotivational Gen Z and
Millennial Expert podcast tohelp you get where you want to
go.
Talking about today's episode, the episode is about helping you
grow.
So if you're an organization oryou're in a place where you

(01:31):
want to feel like you are a bigpart of the puzzle, then it's
about help me grow.
So what motivates Gen Z's,millennials, generation X Alphas
, baby Boomers?
Well, there's a lot ofdifferent areas, depending on

(01:52):
the demographics, depending onyou know where you reside within
your life, but I can tell youthat within the workforce, I can
tell you that within theworkforce and, being a me, I am
a Gen X, but I can tell you themost part for Gen Zs and

(02:14):
millennials, it's about beingappreciated, it's to be about
recognized, it's aboutdeveloping relationships,
partnerships, having a mentor.
So how do you help me grow?
Well, there is no one definiteanswer, but what we can say is,

(02:35):
for example, generation Z isconsidered by many to be a
generation of digital nativesthat value purpose and diversity
more than maybe baby boomersand Gen X.
However, as we continue to growand phase out in the workforce

(02:55):
that's Generation X and babyboomers we are going to start
having a labor shortage.
So we do have to understandwhat does a younger workforce
want?
And when I refer to youngerworkforce, I'm referring to

(03:15):
younger than me, that's,millennials, gen Zs, alphas.
Those are the ones that wereally do need to understand the
labor pool and the market thatwe are into.
So, potential motivatorsengaging work.

(03:36):
Think about that.
Engaging work.
Well, if you're a boss, you go.
Is it all work?
Engaging, it's important or wewouldn't have to do it.
Right what?
The answer is probably notright, it's probably wrong.
And why is that?

(03:57):
Because it has to have ameaning.
And that is what the demandwithin our younger generation
asking for Generation Z, youknow, generation Y, those are
the generations that are askingwe want to know what we're doing

(04:18):
is important.
And so if you're a boss or anemployer or an owner of a
business, then you have toreflect on that statement.
So when you look at that, yougo, ok, what can I do?
Well, it's called connectingthe dots, and if I'm an owner,
an employer, a boss, I'm goingto find opportunities for growth

(04:43):
.
I mean, that's not a surprise,that's what Gen Z wants, that's
what millennials want, that'swhat Generation Alpha wants.
They want to know that theirwork matters.
And so, yeah, when you havethose type of opportunities to

(05:05):
demonstrate the ability to makea difference, then we have to do
that.
Now, what does difference typeof work mean?
Does it mean saving theenvironment?
Does it mean being, you know, globally aware of what's going
on?
Does it mean being impactfulwithin everyday society?

(05:25):
It can mean a lot of this, butit's about making sure that
we're motivated by therelationships in the workforce
that can also contribute tomeaningful work.
So guess what Feelings matter?
People are not robots.

(05:48):
That's not the workforce.
We have to realize that.
We have to engage, we have tochallenge, we have to mentor, we
have to develop thepartnerships within the
workforce.
We're developing relationships.
Yes, partnerships,relationships they are

(06:08):
synonymous with each other.
But a partnership imagine thatA partnership is different than
a relationship.
A partnership in the workforceis where a boss, an employee,
you have an employer-employeerelationship.
That also builds on apartnership.
That means you are all workingtowards a common goal.

(06:31):
You are seen as an equal.
You are not some lower levelemployee that needs to look up
to their boss, is fully aware ofthe difference in you know pay
scale or the ability to overseeothers.
That's fine and great and all,but a partnership builds on the

(06:56):
success of the organizations.
Look at great sporting teams.
Think of your favorite sportingteam and think about what makes
them great, what makes them notso great.
Do they have a good camaraderie?
Do they have a good team spirit?
Do they have the ability tohave a relationship where they

(07:17):
could partner up to win games?
Do they see the best in eachother?
Do they find ways to uplift theother?
That goes back to what westarted this episode on.
What is in it for me?
Help me, help me be better, help me strive for more

(07:39):
excellence, help me be able toreach the status, the climb the
mountain that I want to climb.
You know, do whatever is theobstacle that you want to
overachieve.
Help me overachieve it.
How do you do that?
You provide the tools, youprovide the training.

(07:59):
Those are simple answers to amore complex problem, because
helping me does not have an easyanswer.
But if you have the significantmotivators within the workplace
, like you know, incentives howis the customer impact of what I

(08:19):
do?
Recognition, advancement, making my work be meaningful,
hitting targets and the securityof the selected individuals
that make you great.
What does that mean?
By making you great?

(08:39):
It's about the security ofpeople around you that have your
best interests in mind.
So, as we segue into theparticulars of how can you
motivate, how can you help me?
If I am an employer, if I am anowner, if I am a mentor, how do

(09:01):
I help you?
It's very simple.
It's about connecting the workto what's important.
We are all different.
We are all humans.
We all have differentmotivators.
We do not all fit in one sideor inside a box, and that's

(09:22):
where you can have life coaches.
You can have motivators.
They will all tell you rise upto the challenge.
You can do this if you try hard.
You have the ability.
Why don't you go ahead and buymy 10 seminars and I will make

(09:44):
you great?
Well, guess what?
The only thing that can make usgreat is what are the obstacles
that we want to overcome andhow are we going to do it?
There is no magic potion to getus to where we want to be, but
to where we want to be, to wherewe want to go.

(10:06):
It's really simple Find mentors, people that you can connect
with, that have your best desireat heart.
I've had great mentors in mylife.
I had some that weren't greatmentors, but they helped me
achieve by understanding thewords that they stated.

(10:29):
The words may have been hurtful, they were impactful.
That is not the message I wouldshare to others.
I would not say use words to behurtful to be impactful, but
you can take those negativemotivators and make them
positive, and that's why I sayhave a mentor that has your best

(10:51):
, your best progress at heart.
At the end, we have to be incontrol of our own fate and you
can rely on help me, help you.
We can have that type ofattitude, but for us to really
get where we want to be as ateam, as individuals, as key

(11:16):
contributors within our work,it's very, very simple, very,
very simple.
The simple is we need to getoff and out of our shell and we
need to answer the call of life.
The call of life is about theability to understand what do I

(11:36):
want?
What do I need to do to getwhat I want?
How am I going to achieve it?
How am I going to discard allthe negative feedback that I
received and overcome?
Because everybody at some pointfeels like they're knocked down
, they're beaten up.
When I was going through mydissertation process for my

(11:59):
doctorate degree, I was beatendown.
I was bruised, I was battered.
I wanted to give up.
It's like anything If it's hard, and if it's really hard, you
want to quit.
And guess what?
There was something inside ofme that wouldn't let me quit,

(12:20):
and that's where I would saylook inside yourself, don't
worry about who can help you out, worry about how you can help
yourself and answer the call.
Answer your abilities.
We all have the ability to getthings done, but what's key in

(12:42):
the ability is the desire.
Do we have that desire to getup, get out and do the hard work
?
Nothing's easy.
So when you say, help me, I getit A good mentor, a good boss,

(13:04):
a good owner those areindividuals that have the
opportunity to help others andthey should.
With that said, as individualsthat are receiving that help or
receiving that mentorship, thenit's up to that individual to
realize I have the ability, Ihave the desire, I have access

(13:29):
to the tools.
If I don't have access to thetools, access to the tools, if I
don't have access to the tools, how am I going to get access?
It's a step-by-step process.
It's the same thing likegetting out of debt.
It's the same thing offinishing school.
It's the same thing as tryingto get a job promotion.
It's the same thing of gettinga new job.
These are all important aspectsof achievement, but nobody I

(13:54):
mean nobody is going to give usanything without us earning it.
Sometimes you'll luck intosomething, but it doesn't mean
it's permanent.
So when your luck runs out, that also means the opportunity
might run out, meaning you can'talways rely on everybody else.

(14:16):
They might open the door foryou, they might stick their foot
there and have a have, just alittle opening for you to come
in.
But it's up to us to takecharge, to run through and say
I've got this, I can do this, and you have to believe in
yourself.

(14:36):
For example, in sports, there'sbeen position players within
their sport that really had thetalent, they really had the
ability to be very successful, but there was one key that kept
them from having the fullsuccess that they wanted.
Not only besides impostersyndrome, it was more about the

(15:00):
lack of belief in themselves.
Yes, imposter syndrome issimilar, but it's about thinking
you don't belong.
Not that you don't believe youcan do it, but it's that you
don't belong.
But in this case that I'msharing in sports, it's about
not believing in yourself, andthat is why we have the
opportunity to get somethingthat we want, that's important,

(15:24):
that's impactful, that's goingto change our lives.
Then we need to take thatopportunity.
So that goes back to afour-step process that I want to
talk about.
Step one is first realize whatdo you want.
What do you want?
Break it down.
Break it down to really what isimportant to you.

(15:49):
For example, I always wanted tobe a motivational speaker.
I always wanted to help people.
I used to want to travel.
I used to want to do all thesethings to make an impact on
people's lives.
And then I realized, aftersearching for clients and doing

(16:09):
motivational speeches and havingto travel a little bit, I
realized I don't necessarilylike traveling.
Why?
Because I'm away from my familytoo often.
And I realized the dream ofwhat I had really wasn't what I
wanted.
And then I had to decide okay,I got to go in a different

(16:32):
direction.
So that's why step one isrealize what do you want, what
do you want to accomplish.
Step two is, once you figure outwhat you want, what you want to
accomplish, then break it downinto the basic tools of the next
steps that you want to do toget there.
Decide do you need more tools, resources, do you need money?

(16:55):
Do you need to do something toget out of debt?
Do you need to take baby steps?
Do you need to do a snowballeffect?
Do you need to get additionaltraining?
Decide what the course ofaction that you're going to need
to take.
So take those steps.
And then number three is yourealize what you want, what you
want to accomplish.
You realize the tools that youneed.

(17:18):
Now you realize OK, this is howI'm going to do it training,
the searching for these type ofjobs, being able to collaborate
with others, finding resourcesthat are available to you.

(17:39):
And the fourth step.
The fourth step you did all thehard work.
Now it's progress.
Take everything you learned, all the research, all the tools,
and begin to apply them.
And then there is a fifth stepReap the rewards, feel great
about the successes that youwill accomplish, that you have

(18:02):
accomplished, and don't sellyourself short.
So we talk about at thebeginning it's about help me,
it's about help me, but you gotto look in the mirror.
Look in the mirror and say helpme.
It's not a cry for help, it's acry to yourself to realize get

(18:27):
off of your whatever you'relaying on and get up and face
the challenge, face theopportunity.
Take those five steps, thatfifth step being celebrate.
Do all of that.
Look at the reflection andrealize this is what I can

(18:48):
achieve, foresee it, visualize, think about it and then write
the steps down and then writewhat your life will be like once
you accomplish those goals.
I always say the onlylimitations are the one we put

(19:10):
on each other, and that is why,no matter what obstacle gets in
our way, we need to move it over, knock it down, push it down.
Whatever you got to do, getthat obstacle out of your way.
We can achieve, we can do it.
I know you can.

(19:31):
I continue to do it.
We cannot let anything stand inour way.
This is a podcast for those thatunderstand the importance of
Gen Z, millennials and all theother generations, but also

(19:53):
understand the impact ofmotivation and what it has in
our lives, how we motivate eachother, and then we turn around
and we motivate others as well.
So I want to thank everybody.
If you want to reach out, feelfree to reach out and just say,
hey, I, I appreciate what you'resaying, or hey, I don, I don't
agree, or whatever it may be,but we appreciate your

(20:16):
listenership.
We have listeners all over theworld and I am extremely
thankful for you and you're mymotivation to continue to do the
podcast.
So thank you and I look forwardto seeing you on the next
podcast.
So take care and I look forwardto talking to you later.
Again, this is Dr Jason Wiggins.

(20:36):
Bye, bye.
