Deni Salmon is a passionate early career pharmacist and advocate, currently serving as the Pharmacist in Charge at TerryWhite Chemmart Tuggerah. As a proud member of the transgender and LGBTQIA+ community, Deni combines lived experience with clinical expertise to champion inclusive, culturally competent, and patient-centred care.

Deni holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons) from the University of Newcastle and a Graduate Certificate in Applied Pharmacy Practice from the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA). She has also completed specialised training in inclusive care, including “Supporting the Trans & Gender Diverse Community” by Minus18 and PSA’s “Deadly Pharmacist Training” to support culturally safe care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Her professional mission is clear: to ensure that every patient - regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, or cultural background - feels seen, respected, and supported within the healthcare system.

In 2024, Deni co-founded Queer Pharmacists of Australia, a national Facebook group that provides a safe and affirming space for LGBTQIA+ pharmacy professionals to connect, collaborate, and advocate for better healthcare outcomes. The group facilitates peer support, knowledge sharing, and celebration of lived experiences - fostering a strong, inclusive network across the profession.

Deni’s journey into pharmacy was shaped by a powerful personal moment - receiving gender-affirming care and experiencing the impact of a compassionate pharmacist firsthand. That moment became the catalyst for her career and continues to fuel her drive to reshape pharmacy into a more empathetic and equitable profession.

Whether through her work in the dispensary or her broader advocacy efforts, Deni is helping lead a movement towards a healthcare system that values diversity, champions cultural safety, and empowers patients and professionals alike to thrive.
