Welcome back to the You're Not Alone Podcast!
This week, Val ventured up into the mountains of Arizona to attend 'Camp With a Ramp' (CWAR) at the Whispering Hope Ranch located near Payson, Arizona.
CWAR is a 3-day cabin camping experience in which campers can participate in multiple adaptive activities including horseback riding, fishing, kayaking, adaptive mountain bike riding, archery, crafts, animal interaction, basketball, pickleball, and educational discussion groups.
The CWAR Mission? "To create an environment in which individuals living with spinal cord injuries are challenged to explore their independence and improve their physical health. The camp provides an introduction to numerous accessible sports and independent recreational activities in a unique setting. In addition, it fosters empowerment and independence, facilitates education, networking, mentoring and personal growth during a fully accessible three day camping trip with family and friends." Val and her husband, Chris, were first timers this year, and had a great time meeting new friends and enjoying the peacefulness found in the beautifully vast forest campground setting. Volunteers helped Chris transfer into a kayak and he set sail on Willow Springs Lake, kayaking again for the first time since his spinal cord injury.
You knew Val would certainly not go to such an event without all of you, right? Our podcast came along for the trip and she was able to interview many veteran and rookie campers, as well as CWAR directors, Tina Fisk, OT, and Duane Blau, PT.
Listen in for camper testimonials and take their advice - join in on the fun and plan to attend Camp With a Ramp 2025!!
Thank you to everyone, all of the amazing volunteers and especially those who took the time away from the fun to record with You're Not Alone Podcast: Tina Fisk, Duane Blau, Chisum, Cam, Dave, Julian, Katie, Adam, Heidi, and Ryan!
