In his first of two appearances this month, Denzel brings Walter Mosely's Easy Rawlins to the screen. Although it deviates from the novel in some places, the plot unfolds in a crafty, writerly style.

A couple-three aliens discover that Earth Girls Are Easy in the kooky kitchy campy romcom from the mind of Julie Brown. Peak mid/late 80's in tone, casting and musical choices, this movie probably deserves another look.
We also discuss the Davis-Goldbloom complex, the extreme tedium of Eric Stoltz and physical comedy gone wrong.

Perhaps overambitious, the film follows a circle of friends from the Bronx as the Vietnam War era impacts their lives and the various ways they try to cope or not. What it delivers in the way of stand out performances and a great soundtrack, it lacks in character dimension/motivation. ...
We close out January with another cult classic from the wild mind of Frank Henenlotter, Frankenhooker (1990).
Lucky for you we did a whole episode without hitting the record button so this is a second take. We talk the 80's crack epidemic, decimalization, and the ableist nature of anti-sex worker rhetoric.
