To wrap on May, we bring you the runaway smash summer blockbuster hit of 1997, Men in Black.
We talk the death of physical media, fun with "AI", and anti-intellectualism in right wing populism.
Plus we reflect on Z's birth month selections.

Kicking off the door to May, we kick around the ball of complexity that includes, but not limited to:
Z's relationship to this film, the film's relationship to the source text, the source text's relationship to historical fact/settler propaganda.
Plus we talk: color v light theory, "historical reenactments", and probably food &/or sex
History Buffs: The Last of the Mohicans
The Sameer Project...
Strap in cuz Keith is only partially medicated and we talk about the relation between personal trauma and horror films.
Plus Dramarama vs Social Distortion, pining vs slutting and the month in review.

Dare we say "neo-noir"?
In post-war Los Angeles, Ezekiel Rawlins is just trying to keep a roof over his head. Soon, a job opportunity presents itself that will change his life forever.
In his first of two appearances this month, Denzel brings Walter Mosely's Easy Rawlins to the screen. Although it deviates from the novel in some places, the plot unfolds in a crafty, writerly style.
Oh man, who am i writing ...
A couple-three aliens discover that Earth Girls Are Easy in the kooky kitchy campy romcom from the mind of Julie Brown. Peak mid/late 80's in tone, casting and musical choices, this movie probably deserves another look.
We also discuss the Davis-Goldbloom complex, the extreme tedium of Eric Stoltz and physical comedy gone wrong.

We're attacked this week by a kooky romp about oversized crocodile that's eating people where it has no business being. A great cast couldn't quit save David E. Kelly's script for us.

Wrapping up February we bring you a Spike Lee joint. Starring Ray Allen, Rosaria Dawson, Denzel Washington, we were split on He Got Game (1998). Keith found it bogged down by overly long scenes and a tropey-ass B plot, while Z appreciated the time taken with dialog and the musical & visual choices made.
Plus we talk the evolution of breast implants in media and give our rankings for the month.

Kicking off February we are bringing you the Hughes Brothers' follow up to their debut 1993 hit Menace II Society, Dead Presidents (1995).
Perhaps overambitious, the film follows a circle of friends from the Bronx as the Vietnam War era impacts their lives and the various ways they try to cope or not. What it delivers in the way of stand out performances and a great soundtrack, it lacks in character dimension/motivation. ...
We close out January with another cult classic from the wild mind of Frank Henenlotter, Frankenhooker (1990).
Lucky for you we did a whole episode without hitting the record button so this is a second take. We talk the 80's crack epidemic, decimalization, and the ableist nature of anti-sex worker rhetoric.
Plus our rankings for this month's films.
