In this episode, Vick takes us back to the beginnings of the Sogorea Te' Land Trust, breaks down the history and importance of shellmounds (sacred burial sites) for the Ohlone peoples, and calls on us to (re)build our relationship with the land. They take us back to the first missions that were built and the religious trauma that ensued for California natives. She gives us some insight into local resistance efforts, inspiring land projects, and connects the dots for us between queer liberation, land rematriation, healing and the very real power of storytelling.

Victoria Montaño (all pronouns are welcome)  is a first generation, Two-Spirit, Yo’eme (Yaqui), Mexikah, interdisciplinary artist borned and raised in the Village of Huchiun, present day known as Oakland, CA. She is a Po-scholar, Storyteller and Land Steward with the Sogorea Te’ Land Trust. Victoria’s work sheds light on Indigenous Solidarity across seas and false man made borders, Queer liberation, land rematriation, restoration and the reawakening of ancestral knowledge.
