Hace 40 años, el 15 de agosto de 1981, fiesta de la Asunción de la Virgen María, la Madre Angélica fundó el canal católico global Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) en el estado de Alabama, Estados Unidos.
En ese entonces todo lo que tenían la Madre Angélica y las religiosas de la comunidad de las Clarisas Pobres de la Adoración Perpetua para el canal de televisión, cabía en una cochera en el lugar donde estaba su comunidad en Irondale.
También fue un 15 de agosto, en 1944, cuando Rita Rizzo ingresó a las Clarisas Pobres en la ciudad de Cleveland, tomando el nombre de Hermana María Angélica de la Anunciación. En ese entonces tenía solo 21 años.
Los orígenes de EWTN se remontan a las décadas de 1960 y 1970. La Madre Angélica se hizo conocida por ser una carismática oradora y en 1969 comenzó a grabar audios de conversaciones espirituales para distribución masiva.
