محمدتقی اکبرنژاد روحانی منتقد و در بند جمهوری اسلامی، با استفاده از تمثیل تایپ با صفحه‌کلید و اهمیت قرارگیری صحیح انگشتان روی کلیدهای محوری، استدلال می‌کند که دو "اشتباه محوری" در بنیانگذاری نظام جمهوری اسلامی توسط خمینی و در ادامه توسط خامنه‌ای رخ داده است. این دو خطای بنیادین شامل قرار دادن سیاست کلان بر تنش‌زایی و تفسیر غلط از مفاهیم دینی (مانند جهاد و امر به معروف) به جای مدارا و تعامل جهانی، و دوم، تمرکز انسجام ملی بر ولایت فقیه به جای عقلانیت جمعی و مشارکت نخبگان است. او پیامدهای این خطاهای اولیه را جنگ هشت‌ساله، ترورها، تورم‌های لجام‌گسیخته، سرکوب نخبگان، و انزوای بین‌المللی می‌داند و نتیجه می‌گیرد که این بحران‌ها نه نتیجه توطئه خارجی، بلکه ثمره مستقیم همین دو اشتباه محاسباتی هستند.
