「林彪事件」有关真相至今还不完全清楚，多年来大陆和海外都已出版一些有关林彪事件的著述，但限于有关档案还没开放，基本内容多是辗转互抄。讲者认为林彪事件反映了文革的深刻危机，1969年后，林彪等主张回归正常秩序的意见和毛要「继续革命」的激进主义的主张发生了分歧。在中共九大上，林彪的力量大为扩张，也使得毛感到威胁，遂采取步骤，以「庐山会议」林彪试图「设立国家主席」一事为突破口，逐渐削弱林彪的力量，最终激出「九一三事件」。林彪虽失败，但毛几十年「一惯正确」的神话经此事件已被打破，毛本人的身体也被打垮，所以毛也不是胜利者。
