Speaker 1 (00:03):
What would you talk about on your on your podcast
presenting show. Oh hi, are you rolling? Yes? Hi, I
don't know how to run aboard. It's the fifteen minute
morning show podcast. Here's Nate in the other room. Is
Scottie b who's not talking about poop today. Also there's Gondhi,
(00:26):
and there's Scary and Froggy in Jacksonville High Frog. And
also Garrett and Dan Yell are here. And our special guest,
our friend Julie, our girl Julie in town from South Florida. Yes,
she wanted to get some of that urine smell in
New York City vine right now. I don't know what
do you smell out there? What do you what are
(00:47):
your thoughts about New York today? It's a little nicer
here in Midtown than Tribecca. Yeah, we came uptown better
get away from the trash. But Gondhy came with us.
And there was a trash nado this morning. I watched
it just swirl and swirl, a perfect midtown trash nado.
Midtown trash nado. I actually thought it was a rat
running around and then when I turned and looked, it
(01:08):
was just trash. It's trash going in circles. So Julie
is a very very dear friend of ours. We work
with her, we play with her, we have we drink
with her, and we're going to a party with you tonight.
Yes we are. Norwegian Cruise Line is having a big party.
We're talking about some important things at the party that
we cannot divulge, and we're going to talk about him
on the show tomorrow. Yes, oh nice, But what can
(01:31):
we say? Well, we're going to be announcing tomorrow the
new entertainment on Norwegian Viva, okay, which is the sister
ship to Primacy coming out very soon. Scary okay, Yeah,
because I already booked for my crew is on Viva.
So I'm excited. Yes, yeah, you're gonna be one of
the first to be one. I'm excited. Yeah, No, I'm
(01:53):
very curious. Had a lot of coffee today, I know, so,
truth be told. I had a double cup because I
had a cup in the morning and then Andrew brought
me a second. But look at you, I'm afraid you're
about to have some sort of heart attack. You are
very okay, But I didn't want to be ready to go.
I didn't want I wanted to make sure that I
drank the cup that Andrew gave me because it was
very kind of him to get it for me. So
(02:14):
I don't break it. Don't just don't hurt yourself, Okay,
but good. Yeah, we were excited. Viva Yea our next
ship and our favorite. What's going on spray for disobedience yea.
Viva is the newest uh in Norwegian and in the
(02:37):
line of incredible cruise. I'm actually gonna be with Scary
on that cruise. I don't know, you're not booked yet,
not yet. As soon as I booky. Scary and I
we know, like our couples, you know, the two of
us went back to back cabins. Yeah, next door won't
work on it. Yeah, we're working on getting you in
the haven right now bears beggar. So I want that though,
(03:01):
because do we have this conversation yesterday? Do you really
want to have a room right next to something? That's
why why are you asking? I did when my friends
and I traveled together, was awesome, you're here. No, No,
we didn't hear anything. Will you rub with our kids?
So we really didn't hear anything. A lot of times
when rooms are back to back like that, the headboards
are against the same. I don't want the two sides.
But let me see these vessels are their sound proof perfect?
(03:23):
So you're fine. Okay, I made that up, I think.
But it's good to have a little separation. Yeah, oh
absolutely I would. Yeah, we could put you on starbard
side of haven. What are the two sides, starboard and port. Yeah,
you can be starboard. You can be parted because I
do know sciaries sex sex schedule. Don't you just do
(03:44):
vacation Sunday morning many of times? What what's that? Gandhi?
Even on vacation only on Sunday morning? No, because it
doesn't matter the day of the week. Every day is
a Saturday when you're on a cruise. Shop there you go.
Hear that every day? Now, Yes, thank you for not
talking about poop. So that's why I haven't said anything.
(04:07):
Can help himself. I propose we change his name to
Scottie b M. See it's going down that road. Well,
I'm just saying just because then we'll remember he always
goes to that. Can I just tell you what happened
in the bathroom before? No? No, no, it's not poop. No,
I don't I about anything about vacant observation, I'm changing gears. Please.
Since Froggy has been elevated to the status of program
(04:29):
director and the freshest face of country radio, he has
sounded much more responsible to look an adult. You would
have to turn his mic off or he would get
you know, now listen to him. I mean, he's as
your boy. It's proof that it's sometimes I can be
mature and say the right thing and no when to
(04:49):
like I do. My wife used to say, you don't
have the mechanism that tells you when to not say that.
The film too. I just don't always use it, But
now I have to use it a little more than
I used to. Yeah, I understand that. Well, I'm I'm
saying you're not fun. I mean, oh no, no, no no,
I'll still say I'll still say inappropriate shit, but I
just won't say it all that. Hey, So there's something
(05:10):
I wanted to bring up today, proposing that four day
work week thing. Yeah, hell yeah, hear me out. And
it is not just for us, but for anyone working
in any job in the US of a Wednesdays should
Wednesday be the next day off in the middle of
the week. It's up for debate, burn it down. But
I would prefer a Monday or a Friday, right, I
(05:31):
think I would too. Yeah, but they say, think about it.
You have Saturday and Sunday off, and then you work
months two days. Yeah, and then you're off for a day.
Then just work two more days, and then you're off
for two more days. I don't know, because Sunday you
kind of spend all of Sunday being like, well, I
have to go to work tomorrow, so let me not
get too too crazy, and then you'd have two of those,
so you want to get more crazy. So this is
(05:52):
a drug or alcohol problem. Okay. I didn't give it
any significant thought until you mentioned it. It does make
sense to have that break up in the middle of
the week. But personally, I just like Fridays off. I
think a Friday, Saturday, Sunday is the best way because
I like to go out on Thursday nights and then
by the time Sunday comes around, I'm good. I'm vomb
for Mondays Monday. Julie. Julie who has now invested interest
(06:16):
in this what I actually do invested because I own
my own company. I can make my own rules. So
for a while there you guys. I'm sorry, don't let
them down, you go round. I did take Mondays off
for a while because Fridays are already fun, right, so
you already look forward to Fridays. So Friday it's a
(06:37):
good day. Wednesdays you have to have that momentum in
the middle of the week. But on Sunday there's all
these things. You go, oh, wow, I wish I had
done that this weekend, or you know, I want to
get to that, and then you can do that on Monday.
So Mondays were the days that I used to take off.
Now I don't take okay, as Julie, as a business owner,
would you give your employees a day off? Would you
(06:57):
give them a four day work week? Um? Well, recently
an employee came to me and I had I had
had a summit, a little summit with my employees, and said,
what would make your job better? Like it can be
a new chair, it can be whatever you want, like,
what would make it better? And she said, I'd like
to take half of Friday's off. And I said, sure,
you can take half Fridays off. Wow, Because nowadays they
(07:19):
work all the time. They're they're on email at night,
they're doing client calls at six o'clock, it doesn't matter.
Like they're they're answering email and responding to clients all
the time. And when they go on property, which the
kind of work that we do, they're working twenty four
hours a day. So I said, sure, you can clock
out at noon. I mean, as long as something to
you know, check your email, make sure something doesn't happen.
(07:42):
Go ahead, if you're grateful, let's go work this place.
A lot of people I know are doing like longer
work days, like Monday to Thursday, so that they can
take Friday off. So yes, they'll add two more hours
to a Monday, you know the rest of the week,
and then Fridays they happen. Then you're really not gaining
you because now you're working longer to get that time,
so you're still working the same. I'd rather have the
(08:04):
day redistribute your hours. But see what we do for
a living. In my opinion, we can't take right no day.
We have to be here for five days a well,
what we do do? What do we do do? I
told you we couldn't talk about that kind of around here.
And like Garrett Sam Diamond Scott, like people have stuff
(08:26):
they do after the show, right. And for me, it's
like if you get that done in five minutes or
if it takes you four hours, Like, as long as
your work is done, right, go home, you know. And Froggy,
I know you work the same way. It's like, as
long as you're done, just go home and work can
be done from home too. I feel like, right, yeah,
but we have more fun in the studio together. Yeah, definitely.
But I'll tell you this, My work's done, but I'm
(08:47):
still here. Why are we still here doing this? I
don't know. I was told to be on from six
am to ten. Again, it's only ninety three. We were
told a lot of things. You know, it's radio, not television.
There's no cameras. Don't worry about makeup and hair and whatever.
(09:07):
Through radio. People that don't even really show up anymore.
So I I give you a lot of credit. There
are a lot of people in our business that don't
show up. Here, isn't my question when they don't show up? Like,
how do they like just like take different parts of
things they've said and put them together. Shut up? They
edit them all together? Yeah, make it sound like they
(09:29):
really said the names you want names? Yeah, yeah, no,
dove them no at the time. All right, Julie, back
to you, Julie. Another interesting, wonderful thing about our friend
Julie is she's in She has been in this business. Yeah,
I mean for longer than most people in this room.
Did you get into radio? I started in high school
(09:49):
in nineteen eighty Okay, so I was I started in
high school in nineteen eighty. Yeah. So when I read
your book everything, you know, when we were talking, you
were talking about all the like the call letters and
the prize van and all that was everything that I
went through on radio. So you you drove the prize
van absolutely, so you were like, yes, the bumper stickers,
A cute gal out there to drive the patrol sticker
(10:11):
patrol big time. Yeah. In Miami, why one hundred gave
out probably over five million bumper stickers and it's lifetime
and it was huge, and three million of them were
still they are. I always tell my kids that this
is why I'm such a good defensive driver, because when
you drove the van, people constantly caught in front of
you so you could see their sticker. So you had
to constantly be people, which is weird because in Miami
(10:35):
they all drive. So well yeah, yeah, so, I mean,
so Julie and I have the same perspective about this business. Yes,
she worked at WHY one hundred. I've worked at Z
one hundred. They were both major powerhouse radio stations. But
you started in Miami. I worked in little tiny towns
before I and then Houston and all those whatever. But yeah,
(10:56):
so you guys don't even know what you've missed. I start,
I mean, like, you know, because Julie and I have
talked about this before. Like I started in a small market,
and I know what you went through, and it's it's
you know, you drive that Prize van and you hope
somebody shows up to your remote and you got that
Marty unit and people don't. We Marty didn't have a
Prize van, but we had a Marty Unit. Marty. You
(11:18):
would put an antin in the air and you could
broadcast live from the Ford dealership. Yeah. I was in
the band one time with an engineer. He left the
Marty unit up and went and went under a bridge.
The antenna hit the bridge ill purpose, though it was
not on purpose at all. Do you guys used to
do that stuff and destroy things. We used to destroy
ship and that was on purpose. Early on my car
(11:40):
was the Prize van. They used to give us a
big magnet and you just had to stick it on
the side. The station was that it was BLI on
Long Island. Okay, Oh, you had to use your own car,
and I had to. I had to deliver the bumper
stickers to every seven eleven on Long Island. So I
had to load my car with cases a bumper stickers
and drive to about seventy four seven eleven. Wait, didn't
you have to DRIs like a chicken or something? No,
(12:01):
I was. I was a walkman. I had addressed as
an inflatable walkman. But you got it. But you got
into a fight with a w the Kjoy duck. Lucky
the duck was at the big Christmas tree lighting and
me I was walking around as the walkman, and a
gust of wind came and blew me over and I
was by myself, so the duck just stood over me
and laughed at me. Not nice, you're competitors. Another great
(12:24):
radio story we got. He dressed me up as a
whoope cushion one year. That's right, yeah, him and Great
Tea were breaking the whoopee cushion world. Record, and he goes, hey,
Elvis told me to tell you to put this on,
and so I had to put on a whoope cushion costume,
and the business of ours, well, it's all changing. It's
very different than it was back in those days. Part
of that makes me sad. Part of me is very
(12:45):
happy that those days were done. Yes, and this show
is done. Are you okay? We got to the whole
thing without any heavy path. I gotta go to the bathroom. Yes, Okay.
To my mom and dad, this podcast will be posted
because yesterday there my mother said, where's the podcast? I'm
looking on you. They'd love to watch it on TV.
I didn't have Yeah, I didn't have the heart to
tell you what your mom and dad to see what
(13:05):
we talked about. Yeah, it's for the best. You guys
have no idea how close we were to releasing that podcast.
Thank you for not doing that. We got to get
out of here and have a beautiful Thanks for having me.
