Speaker 1 (00:04):
What would you talk about on your on your podcast
Presents Morning Show Holiday music. This is what I want
to talk about today, Andy Williams. Does he sing any
other music other than the Most Wonderful Time of the
(00:25):
Year and that other one with Dickory Dock, Yes, he does.
He had a career before. You have to have a
career usually before you then go all right, I'm big
enough to sell Christmas songs? Okay, what about what is it?
Peeve Gala peevie? She had that? Was it? One hit wonder? Okay,
one hit holiday Wonder? She went heavy metal? Left it
up never That would be hilarious if she did. But
(00:50):
that's like one of those surprises were like, do you
know the girl that's saying, you know, do you want to?
He's actually the lead singer of I don't know Courtney
Love or something. You know. That's how those internet rumors
get started. You just tell people and they go, oh
my god. Then they don't want to start right now.
Those are all like on the listicle, it's like the
top twenty celebrities you didn't know did this after fame?
I click it every time. Andrew Hi, everybody Gandhi? Why
(01:16):
did the clapping stop Grandma, Grandma got run over by
a reindeer. Another one hit Wonder by Elmo and Patsy,
you know, only records they have sold to date over
twelve million. One song and fantas Elmo did go on
to bigger things. That's a different element. Here's one thing
(01:36):
I'll say, if you told me like today, Hey Nate,
I'm gonna make you a one hit wonder and you'll
profit for it for the rest of your life. Are
you okay with that? You'll have fame, but then you'll
be that has been kind of guy here that would
be so okay with that. I'll be cashing checks till
I'm freaking blue much as you want while I'm on
my yacht. How big is the one hit? Because if
(02:00):
you're like lou Bega with mom, would number five? Or
you like Eagle Eye Cherry or are you Obega probably
made some money? Oh yeah, now he's in like a
ride of commercials like that's that's like the mcgarina guys.
Probably made a nice But you have to be done.
You cannot wait fifteen years and go you know what,
(02:20):
I'm going to bring back this one hit from fifteen
years ago. I am done. One time, you're gonna be
doing the ride commercials because you want to still be
out there and have a little bit of fame. And
then you do those tours like they'll do like a
nineties tour and like Cisco gets on it. Yeah, those
are two songs you'll be. You'll be doing the work.
So I don't want to be. I don't know if
you have the Cupid Shuffle in the system. The guy
(02:43):
who sings the Cupid shuffle one hit wonder a great song,
don't even know, we don't even know who it is.
You want to look at the guy who look a
look at everyone listening to like you know. Anyway, my
point was he went on the voice and sang the
Cupid Shuffle his own song long and they did you
turn around for him doing his own song, And they
(03:04):
were like, dog, why don't you just do a different song?
We want to hear how you sing. He did a
great job with the Cupid Shuffle. Well, the girl from
Rebecca Black, the girl from Rebecca Black kid, Yes, the
girl from Rebecca Black. No, she did Friday, but she
then went on the one that what's the one with
a PDD the four Yes, she was on the floor.
(03:25):
She didn't make it. Girl needs to learn how to
type and get a job. All right, here's a clip
of the Cupid Thank You Special. Right right, So this guy,
no one knows it's called the Cubier Shuffle. At least
a lot of people don't. He went on the voice
(03:45):
and it was and sang that and they didn't turn around.
Imagine you sing your only hit like you can't top that,
you only had one hit and they didn't turn around.
I'm okay with that. I am totally okay with that
one hit done right, don't go on the voice. But
here's something like, you know, it's like watching a sports
game and you're like, you know, I I could score
more points than said team. I don't know, you get
(04:06):
a taste of what fame is. I think it's harder
to say, you know what, I'm giving that up. I
don't know. Maybe it's because I've jaded. I've been I've
been around famous people. You've seen famous people have been
trying to be famous still even though they've obviously passed
their expiration date. I'm totally I'm so present and aware.
I feel like I would know your time is over,
(04:27):
time to move on. See, that's what we think, but
I think after we get that five million dollars and
you're like, you know what, I just got five million dollars.
It's like the guy from the Cosby Show who's working
in Whole Foods or Traded Joe's Alvin Traded. Like, I
don't I would think I'd rather work at Trader Joe's
and not be like, oh, look there's the famous guy
who's working trading. I just rather work at Trader Shoe's.
I don't think I want to be famous for a
month or a year and then get a real job
(04:49):
and then you'll never be looked at, Like, think about it.
I used to manage restaurants right before I got this job.
If I lost this gag and couldn't get a job
in radio, I would probably migrate back to something I've
done previously. If I'm managing a t G I fridays,
people like, hey, I recognize your voice. Weren't you like somebody.
I'm not really somebody, but you know, like, I don't
know if i'd be like, yeah, I used to be
(05:10):
kind of take a drink quarter. But that's why most
athletes get car dealerships. They buy car dealerships because they
play off of who they are. Because when you walk
into a car dealership and say, hey, it's so and
so from seven, I'm gonna buy a Chevy from you,
you gotta buy a car from Scary that quick smoking.
(05:30):
I can't Scary. I've never smoked. Story about Yeah, that
made my old boss shit himself. What a glowing endorsements
not shantics. I don't think said that in the commercial,
but he should decide effect. They say it could cause
lose bowels, and it is true thinking about how many
(05:51):
commercials have like that kind of drug, like a celebrity,
celebrity that can't cut it anymore. So, okay, just got so,
just as we said, Danielle and Scary just joining us.
Would you if you knew that you were only gonna
have a one hit wonder, one song and one hit
wonder and then you know, obviously you wouldn't be famous anymore?
(06:12):
Would you be okay with that? No, I'd rather not
be famous at all. I would you know what I
would prepare for it? I would I would prepare for
it by socking some money away and investing in the
right thing, and and and yeah, or maybe being yeah,
(06:32):
who wasn't Bob Denver at the time, Gilligan who didn't
want to be known as what. We did an interview
several years later and they're like, oh no, no, Bob
Denver doesn't want to talk about that stuff anymore because
that was his Gilligan's Island days. Hello, you were only
known for that one thing. He was Jobie Gillis I remember, Scary.
Won't make it based off of the friends that surround him,
because when he does make it famous that one time
(06:55):
he will be paying for everything from clubs to drinks.
Bob Denver had no problem saying he was Gilligan. It
was Tina Louise told me Ginger we did Scary and
I went to a TV Guide event right we were
it was it was it was a gig we had.
We could interview anybody right at being honored like the
history of television. And we walk up to Tina Louise
(07:15):
looked still pretty good for her age, and she says, Hi,
how are you and not Tina Louise if you don't know,
played Ginger the Red Head on Gilligan's Island, one of
the most famous shows of all time. She really did
nothing big after that, and so she says, hey, guys,
I'll answer any questions you want, just nothing about Gilligan's Island.
So we're like, yes, so I said, so nice museum,
(07:40):
gotta go. Like we didn't know what to ask her,
because like, oh, you were on Fantasy Island, but only
because you're on Gilligan's Island. You were on love boat,
but only because you're on Gilligan's Island. You didn't do anything.
You're Tina Louise, like your ginger. Yes, if I told
you right now, yeah, hit song number one, biggest song
of but that was that would be the only thing
(08:00):
you're known for. You'd be a one hit Wonder would
you accept that? That is really a good question. Um,
you know what? I would say no? Why not? I
wouldn't because the money and run. Even though you'd be
cashing out once a year with a little bit of
royalty money, you say, enough to keep you afloat. I
think of the commercials you could be doing with your
(08:21):
song five years. Would I would still say no? I
really would say no because I actually feel bad for
groups like that, like, uh, I don't know, Oh, come on,
it's not though they had other hits. Girl on TV
was a hit, not really like like Chumba Womba. You know,
I get knocked down, but I get up again. I
(08:43):
mean I was the only hit they had and then
it's it like they had they had that one song
and then it was over. Like I feel bad. I
feel like this, does this song get nominated for a
Grammy afterwards? Because I've always said it, but if I
was ever nominated for an Academy Ward and any you
would have to refer to me when I walk into
the room as Academy Award, Right, you never lose. I
(09:08):
want to want to want to alter my answer and
I want to put this on the table for everybody
because think about it, you're one hit wonder, right, but
if you die, they put you in the montage on
the Grammys. I don't know, dude, if lou began dies,
he gets in the montage. Actually he probably he wanted Grammy.
I bet you they'd play his song during the montage.
He would end the montage because you know what is
(09:30):
irrelevant as he is now, people still remember that, right,
but you get you get the memorium, like that's it.
I got it. I always think like if you're on
top of the mountain and you're being shopped around all
over the place. You're playing in arena, well in smaller
arenas as this one hit wonder and then all of
a sudden it comes to an end and it's over,
and like what do you do? Like you have to
like you, yeah, you have to desensitize yourself, right, desensitize
(09:54):
yourself and then like go get a job. But who's
gonna hire you? Think about how would that feel on
the inside, and we'll get hired. I'll tell you what.
Just yes, okay. I don't know if we can go
back to the the the celebrities who might have had
passed their prime in TV commercials. But I saw a
TV commercial starring Bob you Banks, the TV game show
host sure for the Tax Defense Group the other day.
(10:16):
I'm like, oh my god, Bobby, remember here's what they're
still making money. They had to pay him a decent
amount to get him behind the camera that you advertised
for products that appealed to an audience that was a
fan of yours thirty years ago. So all the old
game show hosts like the guy used to do the
Love Connection wool Chuck Woolery, by the way, don't follow
(10:36):
him on Twitter. He's a maniac anyway, Chuck Woolery will
do like reverse mortgage commercials because his audience is eighty
and they need reverse mortgages. So he's still famous. But
what about all of you guys, What if literally, I mean,
I know, you could always find a job in like
some small you know, bo dunk city somewhere. I get that,
But what if you didn't like what if you humba womba?
(11:00):
What are they doing? Wamba has released seventeen album that
is exactly like Jimmy Buffett seventeen albums. Their last one
was called The Boy Bands Have One. They've changed their
name a couple of times, but they're album but still
okay out again. Here you are working for the Elvista
Rand Show and arguably the most popular morning show in
(11:23):
America right arguable arguably Okay arguably, and now all of
a sudden it's over for whatever reason, and instead of
being in radio or in the industry, you literally have
to go back to the job that you once had,
you know, when you were a kid or something. Should
you should probably come At the beginning of the podcast,
we actually discussed this. So Brodie, who has managed restaurants,
he would have no shame going back to do But
if I had to? Yeah, but how awkward will I be?
(11:45):
Like taking someone's order and they're like, oh my god,
I love you phone taps. Hey, what dressing do you
want in your salad? Can we get to that? I
got magnificent Murray was funny, but I really got to
put this water? Would do I get free dessert? Now
that you're the waiter, I'm gonna start pump in gas again.
And a car pulls up and it's like are you yeah,
but have a sign? Great t formerly famous? You know
(12:09):
how you would go to the casino and they would
have like the boxing champion from seventy there, like the
world heavyweight champion you have that would be That's what
I'm saying, Like, I just I don't I think that
once you're in the entertainment businesses, it is how do
you Because you're branded and regardless if is it irregardless bring,
(12:30):
regardless if you're successful in that other venture that you
decided to do, you're still going to be known as
great boy. So even though you're like a successful car
dealership and that's like had a smaller scale. So now
think about it, like we're saying somebody that had a
one hit wonder a smash hit. They played all over
the country, all over the different worlds, I mean all
of different different countries, and then all of a sudden
(12:51):
it's over, and like, what do you do make sixteen
more albums? According I mean, it's just it's I think
it's hard. It's so Robin before he passed, not Robin,
he passed. Before he passed away. What was he doing?
He was doing something he was doing. He was doing TV.
But you know, if you look up Alan Thick, Robin's father,
(13:11):
and not only was he a TV host and actor,
He's written some of the biggest songs for like TV
themes and game show themes. He's making serious, some crazy songs.
I randomly watched him host the MRS Universe pageant and
he named the wrong winner and I think he was drunk.
It was fabulous. He was great here a lot of stuff. Yeah,
he did a lot of things. But his wife is
(13:33):
celebrity wife spop. Also, by the way, great episode Were's
Yellow Card? I mean, seriously, where are some of these
big hold on? Alan Thick wrote the Different Strokes theme,
the Facts of Life theme, the Wizard of Odds, a
game show, um something for How I Met Your Mother? Anyway,
that's the wheel of fortune, I think he wrote. I
think for some people didn't. Yeah, I think for some people,
(13:55):
like Allan Thick, I think they just have to keep
doing something to remain relevant to themselves. Even though he
didn't need to. I need the money exactly. But that's
what I'm saying, going back to the one hit wonder,
some people are not going to be able to walk
away from the five million dollars say I'm good except
for life. They go, I gotta keep on working. Where's Nelson? Seriously?
(14:16):
Where is Nelson? We didn't talk about that tomorrow. Where
are these people? Where are they? Does anybody know where
they are? I mean, do they have a house to
live in? An apartment? I really think that we should
talk about Jimmy Buffett because he is someone who if
you know, he has a Che's Burger brand, right, he's
(14:36):
in theme parks everywhere. But he also has all these
singles that nobody knows about. He has like over twenty albums.
You are correct, but he's got more than one hit.
Oh he had a crazy Oh no he doesn't. He's
Burger in Paradise. Look at Mark had one hit man
want to talk about We'll talk about her SI a
(15:00):
minute morning show
