Speaker 1 (00:02):
What would you talk about on your on your podcasts show,
Do My Ears Deceive Me? I can't believe what I
heard on the morning show earlier. You were doing that
story about friends. Yeah, and Gandhi says, you know, I

(00:26):
never like friends. I hate friends. How do you hate friends?
The TV show show? So for the TV show, I
will say I got into it way after it was
actually on because when it was actually on, I was
younger and wasn't allowed to watch TV. So watching it
all these years later, I just have beef with it.
Like one It started out with a lot of physical comedy,
which I think is kind of corny, So I didn't

(00:46):
like that. Dude. They had these ballerras apartments in New
York City and Monica was like unemployed and Rachel was
doing whatever she did. I just have a hard time
behying it. She was living off a daddy's money, like
most of the people living in New York. There's the
same thing as sex in the city. Sex in the city.
They never worked. What's her name? You know there were
sex watch Game of Thrones. You don't question the dragons

(01:08):
that I totally fictional. There was a time before she
was around. Yeah, we we it's called escapism. We we go,
we we allow ourselves to suspend our disbelief to going
into these fantasy worlds as if like six white guys
and women would hang out in a coffee shop all day.
I suspend disbelief and then right, but I can't believe

(01:28):
it's so an American to not even like friends, even
though you're a fan of it. I guarantee there's one
thing that bothers you about friends? What is it? Because
for me, how do they always get that fucking couch?
They always had the couch because people all claimed the couch.
Because the couch faces cameras. Nobody wants to sit that.
I know that. I know that's why they film that

(01:51):
the door was of course that's where the cameras pointing.
But in reality, you're not going to have the couch.
Nober the one the one time there were bully sitting
in the couch and they had to fight them for it.
But that was just once right, It always was available
for them always, yea side felt the booth was always
available where they where they had breakfast. If it was

(02:13):
really New York City to be a homeless guy asleep
on that couch. Teenage yeah, I just don't like it,
and I know that that's crazy, But I also know
that there are tons of shows other people don't like
that I think are amazing. Like when people say they
don't like The Office, I'm just like, oh, I would
like to punch you. What was Rachel's last name? Green?
You're not scary? I didn't hear the scary part. Yeah, okay,

(02:37):
pho I'll tell you. You know there's a there's a Phoebe,
Phoebe's twin sister's name, Phoebe's twin sisters name only scary
smelly belly Cat. Smelly Cat. I forgot. I don't know.
That was just on the other day, or watching in
his apartment episodes that I don't know. There's another show

(02:58):
called Big Bang Theory. I don't like you Shell is Fatty.
I get so frustrated so good that. Now do you
get frustrated because it's over your head at times? Or
do you get frustrated because it's just not funny? No,
just because it's not that funny. It's not on my head,
but it's funny. It's just not funny to us. Nothing

(03:22):
funny better than a glass of wine. And like seven
repeats in a row of big with great tea. I
never understood, not understand. It's just I don't get the
humor on I have seldom annoys me. I'm like, you pretentious.
I love I think it's one of the best TV
characters of all times, Sheldon Sheldon. Sheldon is going to

(03:44):
go into the TV Hall of Fame pace anyone doesn't
like it's like yelling at their ur. Sola was her sister,
did not. I didn't even like the spin off, What
was the Little Kid? That? Okay, still we've had the
kid on this show for people watching it got picked
up again. The Black is just celebrating its episode. Is

(04:06):
a great show, very good show. What Modern Family Kill You?
I'm killing you? I like whose family? Like is this
is dad? Figure out Who's Who's Dad? No? I got
into it, like way too late. I agree with after
the fourth season it kind of jumped shark. You can

(04:27):
always catch up on a show like that when you like,
I don't know, I don't get the jokes and I
don't know that that's an indication of you. If you
don't get the jokes, they're obvious. Jokes are very funny.
But it didn't have a laugh track right, So I'm like,
am I supposed to laugh at this? You have to
be told when the laugh. That's like the Office. The
obviously doesn't have a laugh tea. And that's why I
didn't like The Office, because I'm like, you know, wait, now,

(04:49):
see I had a problem with the Office because I
watched the original Office from England and it was so good.
It was so cringe. Yes, when I tried to watch
the American version in that first season, the dialogue was
exactly the same as I was. I couldn't handle it.
I'm like, oh, this is not accepted in America. There
was in English, you can understand it. It wasn't as good.

(05:10):
I was like, this is not as good. So I
couldn't get past that. I did in the opposite order.
I watched the American version and I watched the British version,
and it was like being in an alternate universe, like
what is happening? But the British version there were like
no redeeming qualities ever of David Brand. That's the best
part of version. Michael Scott's why did you why say cringe?
I didn't understand that the first year of dialogue, I

(05:30):
didn't see the first season of What the Office. The
British version was first, and then the American version had
the same exact script, very very close. I'm going to
be honest, I'm I'm really judging all of you, and
I've lost respect for most of you, respect for most
of us anyway, because to me, you know, comedy is

(05:51):
my life, and comedy shows are like to me, the
pinnacle of television. And the fact that you don't get
some of the greatest comedies of our generation and previous
generations and you don't find them funny. I don't know
who you want. How does a Big Bang Theory fit
into like our generation? I mean, I don't get it,
But you're living in this gener you know you're living

(06:11):
in this generation. It's the number one comedy on television
for seven or eight years because enough people find it funny.
It wins Emmy's because enough people now look, you don't
have to find it funny, becomes a trendy show that
you have not that's an excuse for people who don't
get it. No, I get it, I just I never
found it funny. You can't compare Big Bang Theory to

(06:32):
Seinfeld the level if who here does not like it's
not something he says that you can and I agree
with him there that that Big Bang Theory is going
to be one of those shows. Right now it may
not be that's so fresh, but eventually this is its
last season. Tell him, Brody, what am I don't know
what your point about? Seinfeld into Cheers? Okay from the

(06:55):
Great Ones. I think Big Bank Theory can be compared
to Cheers. I don't know anything can be compared to
Seinfeld because although it was popular, it's not an easy
like for some people. Seinfeld's a very acquired taste. And
if you got caught up in it during the hype
of it all, when those catchphrases were new and when
the technology was what it was, if you watch it now,

(07:15):
it's very dated and you're like, yeah, yeah, I got
Everybody says that, like the vernacular America was changed by
that show, But if you watch it now, you don't
understand the importance of it because you live what it created.
Does that make sense? Every problem could be solved with
a cell phone car right. The other thing is, and
I've noticed this with a lot of my intern interviews,
because they have different philosophies on shows. If you watched

(07:35):
How I Met Your Mother every week for nine years,
you had a different opinion on the ending that if
you binge watched it in a weekend. And the problem
with a lot of these shows is if you spend
time with the characters, If it took you four years
to understand Ross and Rachel and you struggle with those characters,
it's a different feeling. Then if you're like, oh, Russ
and Rachel broke up an hour and a half later

(07:56):
in my life, they got back together. Two hours later
they broke up, and there's no like having to wait that.
You don't invest yourself into, Oh my god, what's gonna
happen at the airport after the summer when they come
back from break and as time doesn't exist. Shows the
back in the nineties were not created to binge and
so you can't You can't like them as much because

(08:19):
it's too much. You can't watch Most people can't watch
twelve hours of episodes of Signfeld in a row because
I can. There are some shows you can't sit and
watch because they feel different to you because you don't
invest in them. What about movies The Hangover Hated Loved It.
Here's the thing, It got so much hype, and I

(08:39):
was so excited the first one and but here's that's right,
which you didn't say a number. I was afraid to
tell anyone that I didn't like it because everyone thought
this was the greatest thing since slice bread. So my
husband and I saw it and he's like, I don't
like it. I don't mean neither, and he goes, don't
ever tell anyone. I go, I won't microphone. Let's all

(09:00):
admit that one movie that we're afraid to come out
to public and say we hate because we feel like
we're going to be judged. The hangover. Hangover really really
to me. It's it's so baseline obvious, and it's just okay,
what can we how can we make it more outrageous?
Hold on? Like the Tiger was funny? What the scene

(09:20):
where this scene where they come in and there's Mike
Tyson and they make some sing this song you know
by Philip Collins. I can feel it coming in all
the sudden right in here night and old sudden that
Tyson just boom punches that punches out. Guess there were
there were a couple of funny scenes on two hour movie.
I really enjoyed the hangover. Really enjoyed the thing I hated.

(09:46):
I hated Titanic. Isn't it what you hated it? I'm
with you. I didn't love it. I didn't hate it,
but I kind of nothing. I hate everything. Yeah, David
Brody in particular Titanic, it is never connected with it.
That And on TV the Wire, everybody's like, why don't
you on the wire. I just had this conversation the

(10:07):
wire like change television. The Wire made all these great
shows pop out, these great writing, great drama, great actors.
Casting started changing. It was there, but not I think
I know what he's talking about, like drama. It's like
breaking bad like that. That's right. It really moved TV forward.
I absolutely titan pissed me off because Jack didn't need

(10:30):
to die. She just scooted her ass over and let
him be on that little drifting door with her. But
she was like, I'll never let you go and dropped
him to the bottom. You can't say to a guy,
I'll never let you go and then actually let him go,
literally dropped him. They could not come up with a
better word like I'll never forget you and then let
him go. I'll never let you go. Why would you
write those words into that script? Okay? Turn uh little

(10:51):
miss Sunshine, Oh everybody. I so that movie came out.
I don't have her long ago. And I finally watched
it like a year and a half, like rapper Beep beside,
I finally watched it. Every's like, oh wait until the ending.
It's so amazing. And I watched it and I see
this girl dance. I'm like, that's seeing Steve Correll in it.

(11:14):
I got angry because I wanted comedy Steve Carrell. I
did not want serious, serious Steve Grel. Do you'll never
seemed like that Steve Correll three year old virgin step
what if? I was like, God, almighty mighty. That was funny.
It was okay. You know what movie won a lot
of awards last year. That is a piece of garbage.

(11:36):
It's a rip off of a movie. You'll when I
tell you the movie, like, oh, I like that original movie.
Shape Okay, okay, Shape of Water. I know. It was
like we had this, we had this conversation. It was okay.

(11:57):
From a filmmaker's perspective, though, it was a amazing. You
want to go see art, go to a museum and
sense the loves something in that fish made that's rights
a little more made. But did you get it like that?
You didn't get it? Swipe nobody into love in her life?
And this matter what you look like? You know, scary

(12:18):
didn't see Shape of Water look like you water? Right,
I'm not going to ruin it. But the ending in
Shape of Water explained why she was attracted him. Yes,
I know that, yeah, yeah, yeah, but it was okay.
Maybe the end thing when they jump in the water together.
I know until you said that, I didn't know she

(12:39):
doesn't see everybody know if she didn't know, ruin goddamn it.
I didn't say what happens needed, but they don't jump
in the water like and you know the movie Stop
Stop Stop fine, right, you know what my movie is.
There's something about Mary watched Face. I think it was

(13:13):
the same reason. There was just so much hype around it,
so I was like, oh, this is about to be
so funny. And then I watched and I was like,
I was just in her hair. What's your Oh my
favorite movie? Hilarious? Your great grisp. I'm actually like really

(13:33):
into cartoons. I thought, as far as like comedy goes,
I don't know if you guys saw this as the end.
But that movie makes me laugh. It's okay, so hard
ted love it. The Lion King. Oh, I just realized, okay,
you might be able to talk to me about this. Yes,
movies you can only watch when high or stoned. I
watched Pineapple Express like six years ago. I was sober,

(13:54):
not I was like, this is a piece of ship.
This movie's awful. And then I got a little buzz
and I watched it again. First Landers like that too, Zoolander.
The first time around, you're like Ben Stiller, Jesus, what
are you doing with your career? Second time you get drunk,
you'll quote it until the next morning. Great teeth movie

(14:14):
that you hate? A movie that I hated? Oh gosh,
that you're afraid to admit to everyone. I'm not sure.
I can't remember what I also, you know what? I
also hate Top Gun all times, every except for the

(14:35):
volleyball scene. Right here. Happened to movies that had incredible
soundtracks that were not done by like artists that we
know like brands, Showman, The New One? Did you pre
order The New One? Friday? The fifteen Minute Morning Show
