the levity edd alright, so let's talk about it. Well,
the first request for today's fifteen Minute Morning Show podcast
is homeless Bethany guy. Yeah, so, as I post it
on right there, here we go homeless Bettany. So, as
I posted on social media over the weekend, I was

served in eviction notice on Friday by my brand new landlords,
who bought the building from the people who bought the
building from the people who bought my beloved bought it
from my landlord. Um. Long story short, it is perfectly legal.
They've only given me thirty days to get out. Um,
there within their legal rights to do so, despite the
fact that it should be criminal. I have never done

anything wrong. I've paid all of my rent on time.
I've never had any complaints model tenant. But I'm being
forced out. Okay, So questions, I've got questions. First of all,
why are are they What are they doing in the
apartment after you leave? I don't know. I called the
landlord to get an answer, and his lawyer called back
and left a voicemail and said to call him. So
they won't even talk to me. So they may redo

the building, turn it into a single family home or
something like that. Yeah, so we don't know. We don't know.
I would think if they bought it and they want
to continue renting it out, they would have given you
an opportunity to sign for a lot, a lot more probably,
but they are not doing that. I was in a
really beautiful First of all, this is my dream apartment.
It was beautiful. I was getting so much light and
beautiful space. I decorated it exactly the way I wanted to.

And um and also my landlords that I rented it
from originally were the nicest people. They never raised my
rent like I was just in such a lovely situation
and so um. I was in a total panic this weekend,
and it felt a lot like a breakup if you have,
if you're broken up with or you break up, you
have those waves of total sadness that hit you and

you were just you feel like you're going to die.
That was happening all weekend because I really did love
this place so much. It's interesting living in New York City.
It is a huge rental apartment rental market where you
do become very very very very connected to your place.
At the end of the day, it doesn't belong to you,
it belongs to them. And you know you, I'm not
saying that you're at fault here. I'm just saying it's

sad that we do become so connected to our rental
properties here more so than you know, any cookie cutter
apartment in any other USA city. Yeah, and I think
it's a good lesson for me not to get too comfortable,
because I really had, like my my landlords that I
rented it from. Originally we said I love you to
each other, like we were really tight, and so I

got complacent and I just assumed that relationship would last forever,
and so it was a good lesson. There's my question.
Can they only give you a month's notice? Is that legal? Well,
she does have a thirty day least. Here's the thing,
and it's a thirty day out. She could say I'm
leaving in thirty days and they can say you have
to be out in thirty days. It's an equal it's
an equal thing. And there's there's a whole backstory as

to why. I mean, long story short. Yes, there are
rules that do fall in her favor here in New
York City, the squatter's rules where if she says, well,
I'm not leaving, then they have to go into other
court proceedings where they have it spends, They spend time,
and you spend money, Bethany. You sit there until they
can forcibly move out, which could be six months. The

thing is, it's a lot of money legally, and you
don't want to go to And also I don't you
gotta go anyway you gotta And I don't want anything
on my um, on my history, on my rental history
of like you know, he was. I want this to
work out. You'll find a new place. I'm in the process,
but I just want to say, like so many people
reached out to me on social media and texted me
and we're so amazing and lovely and so I just

want to say thanks you guys. It will be all good.
It's scary, but but it's all good. There you go.

I know that the law is on your side, Bethany.
And why can't you just negotiate? Say look, thirty days
is just small because negotiated cost money, and I can't say, hey,

look you can I be out in sixty Well know
what I'm gonna do is I am calling the lawyer today.
I just want to get more information and and have
a conversation because you might never know you know what,
you never know? They may say, you know what, we
can give you sixty nine days? Yes, Brody, As you know,
I'm of the of the school that even when you're wrong,
you're right. Nothing wrong with that. What all our connections
in TV. I believe we should get miscellaneous guy on

your side, you know, like Jim on your side, Bob
on every town has they wouldn't do it. We get
Carol on your side or one of those people you
know called Jim. Jim will come down and get this,
will fix all this right off that works on TV
all the time. The thing, the thing that I have
been reminding myself all weekend, because I'm still in a
little bit of shock, is that there are so many
people who are so worse off. There are people who

don't know where their next meal is coming from. I
am lucky enough to be in a situation where, look,
I have thirty days, so I will make this work.
I'm gonna make it happen. It'll be okay. I'm still
very lucky. I still live in this. You're gonna be fine.
This is gonna be one of these situations where in
two months it'll be one door closed, another one open.
You're and you're gonna be saying on this show, oh

my god, it was the best thing around in the room.
But when you're sitting in your current position, you just
don't see that. In the forecast, we now moved a
great to the friend. Boy. I do want to say,
and here's here's my advice. You know, when I was
living in my friend our fraternity house, right, we were
living there illegally, and we had painted the Pepper's pool,
we had painted the letters in the pool, and we
had built like all kinds of beds where they didn't belong,

and we had destroyed the house. So the landlords came
in like after a party and we woke up to
like screams of like horror when they saw these people
in the bodies laying all over the place. So we were,
you know, um, we we were. We were removed from
the house with police. It was unbelievable. But you know what,
when one you don't have that right, but when one
door closes, the next one opens. So we all had
(06:31):
a scurry for rooms to stay in and I lived
in a sorority um dormitory for the next couple of
weeks and I had mucho sex, like crazy, right, So
you know what, there was some shining there. The glasses
have full software. I'm looking at it the same way.
I feel like somebody's looking down over you saying, you
(06:53):
know what, you're ready for the next step? And the
next place you're gonna be is better for you. You're
gonna be happy, beer, and you just need a little
something to push your butt out the door. So I
think that's what's going to happen. And you know, worse
comes to worse. Um, I know Nate's girlfriend is moving
into his apartment with him. I figure, I can also
just move into your apartment. Actually I'm moving into a

different one, so mine's available. But you know, I I
had something to say about this too. I've been in
New York City for four years and I've been in
my apartment for that entire time, and I'm I got
complacent too. I got used to my neighborhood and I
didn't realize that there was still so much city out there.
So I think the silver lining is the fact that
(07:37):
you're going to be in a new place. You're going
to be going to different places and new places, and
you've got to look at it that way because I
was in the same same exact position a week and
a half ago, and it's so scary and it sucks.
And anybody, if you've ever lived in New York City,
it sucks moving. I mean moving your stuff out and
(07:57):
trying you know it's easier just to leave your stuff
there and just moving, but you still got a book,
an elevator, and you know you've got guys that you
gotta pay to just watch a truck on the streets
so they can move your stuff out. It's you're not
moving anywhere sucks, and I am totally They say it's
it's worse than going to having your house burned down,
but go ahead when I'm totally convinced that. The reason
my husband will not ever look at another house for
(08:18):
us is because he knows he has so much ship
in his office that it will take months to pack
it up. He didn't want to do it to that.
I will tell you some of the the only time
you can really truly effectively kind of doucheut your life
is when you move. Um. Anyway, So, Bethany, when you
sent me that text the other day saying that you
are being effected from your apartment, and we say, we
(08:39):
make it sound as if you've never paid the bills,
but that's not what this never did anything wrong. I
went back over my thirty years in New York City.
How long have I been here? I've been here almost
thirty years. Every every apartment I've lived in. I started
thinking through that I've lived all over the city, and uh,
you know, I love where I live now, and I'm
actually thinking, call crazy, thinking about moving to another place. Really,

I'm just we've been talking about it, the thought of
maybe downsizing a smaller apartment. You just got here though,
I know living that's a great TV show, that's studio apartment.
I'm going to that. I'm not going to do that,
but I will tell you it's just after you've moved
in the city a few times, and for your renter,
(09:24):
you will. This is something you gotta get used to.
It's a part of New York life. Then you're like, Okay,
I've done this, not where am I going. It's almost
an Airbnb kind of mentality. I have a really great
a friend of mine is also a broker, and he's
helping me look at different places. And we walked around
all day yesterday from ten thirty until five in the afternoon,
looking at apartments and I really want to stay in
(09:46):
the neighborhood I'm in right now, but he was showing
me options in other in other neighborhoods that are really amazing,
and I'm like, Okay, maybe it would be good for
me to know experience other parts, so it'll It is
so funny, though, because New York is so cramped that
in looking at apartments, I have to look at the
staircase to see if my couch will make it around.

You have to do that. You know, there are companies,
there are furniture stores here that serve people who live
in apartments because everything has to be miniature. And you
have to have pet friendly now too, because you have cats.
Always thinking what about Nate. Nate's moving out of his place,
Why can't she move into yours? I'm not walking up
six flights, my lord, I haven't worked this hard, you know,
I've been wondering all these years why Nate is always
(10:28):
like piss poor mood. It's because of this apartment he
lives in. Maybe it's gonna be good for all of
us he gets out of that screwing apart. I think
so too. It's my partner's probably a hundred degrees right now,
I walk up six flights of six flights up to
the surface of the sun. Yeah, Predicul, I wonder he's
always in a ship mood. Look at him? All right,
I'm going to be in a much better mood. Now
I have air conditioning and in elevator. So there you

go to think back and think back to the to
the first apartment you ever lived in, your first rental. Danielle,
remember that. I remember when you first moved into your
first rental, don't I? Of course you do. I it
was the house. It was an apartment. First I had
an apartment and it was in It was in go
to New Jersey. And no, wait, I know what you're
(11:10):
talking about. You're talking about the people that slept together,
that were related to each other, right the first Oh yeah,
a brother. Oh this is great. You haven't heard this story.
So I lived with my girlfriend and a brother and
a sister actually owned the house. Was we went down
there to say something to them, and I looked in
the bedroom and there was one bed in the bedroom

and I'm like, oh, that looks a little strange. Then
weird things started happening. He started acting really weird, She
started acting really weird. They came up and they would
be like, you can't have any guests over. I'm like,
I pay rent. Well, you have to ask us first.
Why don't you throw your garbage out on the right day? Like, like,
why do I hear banging? I'm like I dropped something. No,
you're drilling the walls. So basically push came to shove.
(11:50):
We wound up getting evicted. And the reason was the
brother came upstairs and says, my sister jealous of you guys,
and you need to leave. And that's why we got
evicted because I think they were having in a relationship.
So the brother and sister were effing each other. Okay,
did not like apartment stories. I love them. Hey, who's

it's weird because we're not on the radio now. We're

I don't. I was, well, I was, I texted and
I've been binging the fifteen Minute Morning Show podcasts like
at work. I have been listening to them forever. I

think you're going to be on it. Now. Well, here's
what we're talking about. We want you to merge into
our conversation. We're talking about the very first, the very
first apartment you ever rented, you remember it? Oh, well,
I'm twenty one, so, um, I'm renting my first apartment
actually in the fall. Oh my god. Excited or you
should hear the stories we're telling about your landlords could
(12:53):
be a sister and brother having sex with each other.
You'll hear that when you've been excited. So do we
have any advice for first time apartment dwellers? Go yes, So, okay,
So are you moving in with roommates? I'm assuming? Um, yeah,
so I'm doing an internship. I go to school on
a highlight. I'm doing an internship in Kentucky from moving
with people I don't know either. Oh that's awesome. So
my piece of advice for you is you're going to
(13:14):
have to obviously share like medicine, cabinet space and that
sort of thing, but make sure to cut out one
little part of the apartment that is just your sanctuary.
Whether you get your own room or whether it's like
a little your room, you do get your own room,
so make that as beautiful as you want to make
it so that whenever you go in there it feels
really really good to you. Very good. David Brody looks

don't you give her some advice to take my dog
to the vent last line, I'm tired. I would do
two things. Put a latch or some kind of lock
on your bedroom door. You always have the privacy you want.
And make sure you have your own cannonbucks break, have
your own candlebugs. You needs you definite need bugs, because

the bugs and you're gonna want to kill them. You'll
never at your first apartment. This is it. This is
your first time out in the real world. This is
pretty cool. Good for you. Take pictures, remember it. I'm sorry,
what was that, Maria pure Oh, I just said I
loved my authority house pass here, so doing the whole
apartment thing it would be different. Well, listen, thank you
