Speaker 1 (00:08):
What is going on? Everyone? Welcome to a point game
presented by DraftKings. Now, don't forget. DraftKings is your home
for all the action across the NBA and gets you
closer to the game we all love. The crown is yours. I'm,
of course your host CJ Toldono and I'm joined here
by my co host again, the Man, the myth of legend,
the reason why we have this show. Ladies and gentlemen,

(00:28):
John Wall, John, how you doing, Man?

Speaker 2 (00:30):
What's up? Man?

Speaker 3 (00:30):
I'm good Man, happy to be back. Get to another episode. Man,
get these people what they're asking for.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
Yeah, I feel like you know, we've been putting out
clips and put the episode out nothing but positive reactions.
Everyone wants to hear your stories. And I'm like, I've
just been like creating an inventory of stories I like
looked up and read about. So again this is this
has been a pleasure. I'm excited we still got this.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
Yeah for sure, Bro, Like I told you, I'm happy
we able to collab on this and do something special.
Like I said, Man, I'm just authentic, authentic, like to
get the people what they want to hear, the stories
I've been through, what I've been through, throughout the league,
growing up as a kid, college and all that that
experience that a lot of people don't get opportunity to see.
So man, it's a blessing to be up here man,
And like you know, I mean my due time, i'mna join.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
You love it. And so another reason why I'm happy
that we're doing this is like, you're you're a dude
who's you've met and played with some of the greatest
in the game, and so like your rolodex is crazy,
and we're really excited with this episode. We have our
first ever guest, one of your longtime friends teammates, DeMarcus
Boogie Cousins, will be joining us later in the show.

(01:33):
We already got some previews with some of the stories,
so I just wanted to tease that how exciting it's
going to be to have Boogy on later.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
Oh man, it's gonna be lit. Bro, Like that's somebody
I'll call my brother for sure, you know what I mean.
We got this thing. We stand for three a for life,
the Three Amigos meet him and Aaron Blaso. So just
to be able to have that around and have that platform,
and it's been amazing and to call somebody like that
a brother, since I've known for a long time, it
means a lot to me.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
Sope. Okay, Well, so when we first started this pod,
we were in All Star break, you know, we were
talking about the All Star Game or whatever. But finally
the season is back, we're out of the break, games
have happened, and so I wanted to get your thoughts
on some stuff. Okay, so we'll talk about the wins
and loss or whatever, but I did want to get
your thoughts on this last week. I think it was

(02:19):
a Suns Mavericks game. KD is running out the tunnel
and a fan I don't want to say the word.
I don't know, I don't want to hurt anyone sponsors,
but some a fan yelled out the B word to
Kevin Durant and then KAD walked up and confront him.
Because again I don't need to remind everyone, but players
are humans. For what did you guys? What did you
think of that? John? And have you ever had anything

(02:39):
like that happen to you while playing.

Speaker 3 (02:41):
End of the Day Man, Like I try to tell people,
were just people that's talented and very special and blessed
to be. We are in opposition to be good at
a sport, you know what I mean. But in the day,
we still humans. We go through everything everybody else go through,
and that's disrespectful, you know what I mean. Like end
of the day, I think a lot of times like they
want us to not say nothing, but like we want
to be respectful to those people. But at the same time,

(03:02):
fans got to be respectful us, you know what I mean,
Like they pay money. We know they drinking at the game,
they having fun, they eating and talking trash and that's
all fine, handy Danny, But we still got kids at home,
We still have a wife or a girlfriend now, and
we still have people that look up to us and
we're never trying to do anything to harm them. But
at the same time, you can't disrespect us in that way.
And I think Katie handled would a mana Like they

(03:22):
say certain things and then we walk up and ask
them and then they'd be like, oh shit, like it's
real now, Like so keep that same energy that you
had when you see me walking out, you know what
I mean. And it's not like we feel like we
bigger and betting anybody that we're trying to overstep them,
But like come on, bro, Like you've been disrespectful, Like
you could have just said whatever you want to say,
kept it moving, Like, uh, it's funny because I've seen

(03:43):
the clip somebody posted on trip up there with the
Clippers last year in a Detroit right yeah, and one
guy was like, come on, John, you only got thirteen points.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
That ain't enough. That ain't enough.

Speaker 3 (03:53):
And I'm like, bro, this ain't my job on his
team to go get twenty five and thirty, Like that's
not my job. And I'm like, I'm doing what they
asking me to do. I'm like, but either you, I'm like,
you can't be a fan, you can't be a band
whacking like which one you're gonna be like you're gonna
be a fan or you're gonna be on this side
like picking too. So you know, me just commentating and
the fan posted and was laughing, and I was laughing too,
like I was a mac because he didn't call me
out my name but be disrespectful.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
He was just talking basketball and that was cool with me.

Speaker 3 (04:15):
But they gotta learn how to keep it respectful, bro,
because like end of the day, like we still human beings,
we still got families, we still got kids at home,
and like what if Katie had a kid and his
son asked, like, Yo, you let that person talk to
you like that, Like now you have to explain that
to your kid. I mean, so they got to put
a thing line between that. I think they make it
control that a little better, but in day, you still
can't control what people are gonna do once they buy

(04:35):
the ticket and sit there, you know what I mean.
And I think they handled the world like where they're
kicking people out and things like that and bandon them
if they need to.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
Yeah. No, I that's the argument that a lot of
these fans will say is like I paid money to
do this, But it's like you didn't pay money to
yell at another human being. You paid money to watch
the game of basketball. So I just you know, when
Katie went up to him and honestly talked to him
like a man, and then those those fans immediately like
took it back, like I gotta sports part, it was
embarrassing in my opinion.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
Yeah, it's like okay, they said, like if I go to.

Speaker 3 (05:05):
A speech you having somewhere right and you walking out,
they call your name when you walk out, and I'd
be like blah, blah, look at that be you know
what I mean. They're gonna be like he gotta go like,
you know what I mean. Like, that's the same as
if I'm coming to your environment and being disrespect from
being rude, Like it's cool if you talk a lit
chad and me say that you got I'm fine. I
can handle that, you know, I mean, it's basketball. But

(05:25):
to go out your way of being disrespecman called me
out my name, that's something I will not tolerate, and
I think nobody should. And that's the same as if
I come to your job in your viobe, You're not
gonna let me call you out your name. You're gonna
feel a way about that, And I think that's how
people gotta look at it. But you know, some people
feel like they entitled to what they can say and
what they can do, and some people don't. So I mean,
to each his own, But I think KD handled it
the right way.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
Yeah, I think I've read for them the story. Like KD,
they were trying to kick out the people, which good,
but then Katie was like, let him stay, and so
you know, you can tell me better. But players go
through this with every way away game that they go
through they got mad.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
You go through it with you go through that away
games and sometimes you might go through their home games,
like don't let you be on a bad team and
y'all playing bad and turn like I've been in that
position where he was not a good team Earland in
my career and they booing us. So you're like, man,
I don't want to shoot the ball like they might
say something bad about me, you know what I mean.
But that's the nature and the part of the game.
Like these people be real true friends, like fans that

(06:22):
really love the game. That's a big difference. But to
be out your way to call me out my name
and someone I don't like, but like I respect KD
because he could have got them kicked out, you know
what I mean. Like now they pay their money. We
had our conversation. Let him stay. I mean, it is
what it is.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
Yeah, okay, So another story that happened last week the
Heat Pelicans fight. Now, I don't even know. I don't
think I remember you getting that many fights when you
were playing in the league, but I wanted to know
what was your sort of reaction seeing that, because it
was it was one of those things where it was like,
you know, a little squirm right here and then a
pause and then it happened again, So like what was

(06:54):
going through your head when you were watching that?

Speaker 3 (06:56):
For me, it was funny because the fight all started
because the Pelicans felt like Zion got fouled the wrong way,
you know what I mean. And it goes back to like,
guys went through all this and like I don't think
it was a dirty play.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
So it's like we went through all this for what
you know what I mean.

Speaker 3 (07:13):
But but I respected though, because like Najie Marshall, like
I know him from DC and stuff, like he's stepping
up and protecting his teammate, you know what I mean,
Like Zion is a superstar on their team or starting
a team, like he's protecting him. And then you know,
Jimmy Butler's the bruiser, one of those guys that backed
down from nobody. I loven't respect the way he plays,
you know what I mean, what he brings to the game
every night, So you know he's stepping in there, he

(07:35):
ain't backing away, and then you see a choke, You're.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
Like whoa, whoa, what's going on there?

Speaker 3 (07:39):
Like so that turned Jimmy to another beast and then
you know, Nasee wasn't backing down, being from where he's from.
So I don't ever think nobody really gonna fight, you
know what I mean, Like it's just you know, I mean,
he did bad at whatever's going on, and it's a
part of the game. I don't think nobody really is
gonna throw no punches, you know what I mean. Like
this ain't the old days when they really was throwing punches,
you know what I mean. Like now it's a little different.

(07:59):
Like I remember coming across the lane, you get hit
with a shoulder, right, get up, like we ain't call
him that, like, you know what I mean. So it's
a lot different. I think the game is changing. I
mean it's evolving. But I don't think that was too bad.
It was too bad. It was just a little conversation.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
Yeah, did you ever get in a fight?

Speaker 3 (08:16):
I got into it, man, Like I think it was
my rookie year, rookie second year was playing my.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
He was playing. I know, I got to with uh
it was it big Z was adrenals gals. Yeah, oh wow, yeah.

Speaker 1 (08:32):
Bro, Yes, it would have been like Miami if it
was your first year.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
Right, yeah, yeah, bigger galaxy. It was in Miami.

Speaker 3 (08:37):
Yeah, when Brian it was we're at home right, Yeah,
I mean not saying I was like I was.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
I was good. I was figuring out my way in
the league.

Speaker 3 (08:44):
And playing well and stuff, and coach like, man, don't
get into it, nobody, Man like, don't get into it,
you know, like because at that time, you know older
guys that do little stuff to get a young guy
going and try to get him out the game, you know,
I mean, especially if he's impacting the game in a
big way.

Speaker 2 (08:56):
Now, my rookie, I was impacting the game a lot,
and he elbowed me.

Speaker 3 (09:01):
And I looked at the ref because my lips started
believing me. I touched my lip a little bit. I
look at the ref and call the foul. He elbowed
me again. I was like, no, they got me fed up.
So I tried to throw one of them, but I jumped,
but I only you have only hit him like right here, Hey, bro,
only hit him like right here. And then we get
to like tuestling testing he trying to grab me. I'm

(09:21):
trying to away. I'm probably like one ninety five soaking wet.
Back then, bro, like I ain't strong and nothing that
like that. You know, they break it up and then
I got ejected. I was like, man, damn, coach told
me now to get eject. They don't let him get
to my head and boop here I go out of there.
But I had like a lot of competition, a lot
of conversation with a lot of people, but it just
be basketball talk.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
Like me, I'm one of those guys that I get going.
I like to talk trash.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
I mean like that's how I play, That's how I
get myself going. And uh, but ain't nobody really fighting
or doing nothing out there? Man, it just be a
lot of woofing. It be a lot of it be
a lot of whooping, because if it's really gonna be something,
bro like, you always can be like we gonna see
each other in summer somewhere, or we staying in this city.

Speaker 2 (09:59):
We I want to go dinner somewhere, you know where
to see somebody.

Speaker 3 (10:02):
You want to see somebody, So it's really nothing, bro Like,
you just be a lot of woofing for real. Bro Like,
if people really was on that, you know where to
find me at. Bro Like, we ain't ducking no smoke.

Speaker 1 (10:12):
Right, That's why I always feel like there's a lot
of you see some of these fights as a fan,
and you're like, oh, that guy is kind of charging
at that other player with the knowledge that, oh, he's
going to be held back by his teammates. It's almost
just kind of like a like an emotional type thing
like I'm not standing down, you know.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
I'm gonna tell you the funny. That's what it is. Bro.
It's like, you know, you got that one kid in school.

Speaker 3 (10:33):
That'd be tough, tough, tough, right, right, So they be
riding from each other for about twenty thirty seconds. You
could fight right then and there he quiet, just yelling
back and forth, pushing, pushing.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
The teacher of the prince would come and grab me.
Now it's like, oh no, I'm trying to fight, Like
what's the word? Like what we own? Like come on, bro?
You capping? Bro? Like we could have been unshot the
ones real quick.

Speaker 3 (10:50):
Got this over with, but you ain't on that Like
it's cool, Like I ain't mad, I don't I'm not
saying guys anybody won't fight. They have to, But it's
a business, Like who really want to lose that much money?
Nobody trying to lose no check like that.

Speaker 1 (11:02):
But is there like I don't want you don't got
the name names if you don't have to, but I'd
love you if you did. Is there like a player
or two that would fight where you're like, oh, that
dude's kind of crazy, doesn't care about you know, paying
a little bit of fine. Oh I got.

Speaker 3 (11:15):
Another story, bro, that's what I ain't nobody, I'm be honest.
I met Jame Johnson. He is that way for its bro,
and they tell me what he was. I was like, Yeah,
that guy gonna be my friend when I get to
the league. Like I ain't backing down for nobody, but yeah,
he won those ones. I don't think nobody won't smoke with.
Like I remember him. Serge got into it one time,
I think Toronto. They was in Toronto and Serage swung

(11:36):
on the moving and he too, he two, no, no, no,
we're good, were good, We're good. We do so, Like
you know what I mean, certain ones, you know who
to try, Like I mean, people know who to try, bro,
Like they know who they really won't smoke with.

Speaker 2 (11:47):
They don't what was the story?

Speaker 1 (11:49):
Did I cut you out? We're you gonna tell you?

Speaker 2 (11:50):
I got it?

Speaker 3 (11:51):
Like It's funny because in quench as my guy, bro,
my guy, Like, yeah, I met Queen sat at reebok
you kevi when I told you it's on my team.

Speaker 2 (11:58):
Yep.

Speaker 3 (11:59):
I took business the Bay when Quincy was there, I
mean about to go to bailoring and stuff, and he
was always cool.

Speaker 2 (12:03):
And we playing the.

Speaker 3 (12:04):
Knicks on Christmas. We went in and am driving. He
just boom chucked me hard. I'm like, yo, what you
want so I'll go back and push him back, and
then he tried to swing on me and stuff.

Speaker 2 (12:16):
But like we cool, nothing like that.

Speaker 3 (12:17):
But I think this in the heat of the moment,
probably was like frustrating how the game was going, you
know what I mean, especially being on TV. But at
that moment, I'm like, man, dang, I gotta fight this dude.

Speaker 2 (12:25):
Bro. You know Quincy a little crazy, Quincy be turned.

Speaker 1 (12:28):
Yeah, yeah, he's like an enforcer in the league. Like yeah,
who were about to talk to you?

Speaker 3 (12:31):
Yeah yeah, But like I got love for Quincy, but
at the time, I'm like, man, you can't play with
me like that, bro, you know what I mean. Like
I mean, but it is what it is, bro. Like
me and Booger got into it before in college. Like
you know what I mean, still love of this game, bro,
Like brother's gonna fight, people gonna fight?

Speaker 2 (12:45):
Are you back and forth? Uh? Ain't nobody gonna be perfect? Bro?

Speaker 3 (12:48):
But like I don't think nobody really wants to do anything.
Back in the day, you would have seen some blows
thrown two pieces and all that. But now people ain't
trying to go viral on social media. TikTok.

Speaker 1 (12:58):
No, that's what I said. I remember in that they
did that like Redeemed team Doc and they showed how
Kobe like he told everyone, I'm going at how you
know in that first play and you know, I mean
we're seeing how much love and like Powe you know,
taking care of helping, taking care of Kobe.

Speaker 2 (13:13):
Yeah yeah, real family.

Speaker 1 (13:15):
But like they were brothers then and Kobe went right
out and ran right through him. And that's almost in
a weird way, that's a little bit of love. Like
hey man, we're on the court, we're playing against each other.

Speaker 2 (13:24):
Yeah, no love, Like that's what I try to tell you.

Speaker 3 (13:26):
But like like bug e Blid play all those guys
when I'm in the league, bro, Like no, you're not
my friend right now, we're gonn Dapple up for the game, coopl.
But let's get to it, like we can talk about
we can jitter afterwards between those lines. That's how I
feeding my family, I mean, and they doing the same thing.
So there's nothing against him. We're gonna talk trash, We're
gonna do all that. Like, but I know after the
game is all love, you know what I mean. But

(13:48):
Kobe sitting the message like we're here for one thing.
One thing. I'm here for USA. I'm here to win gold. Yeah,
that's my brother. This someone I could pete with during
the season against all you guys I'm on teams with.
But I'm showing you how competitive man they thought he
was playing. I just say that, like that's Kobe mindset,
competitive drive. Like I feel like that's how he was
when we was in an All Star game, Bro, Like
he's picking up ninety four feet doing that, Like he

(14:09):
just always had that drive and you can't really teach that.
Like I said for me, like for a lot of
guys I play. You know, I played against KG. I
know how he is. But I say, like point guards,
I would always say Russell Westbrook, man, like just the
energy he brings every night, Bro, like All Star Game,
like anything. Bro, Like he brings that tenacity and like
a lot of people be bashing about this about that

(14:30):
he's not the same rust.

Speaker 2 (14:31):
It doesn't matter, Bro.

Speaker 3 (14:32):
Every night he's giving you whatever he got and that's
what you got to respect about that.

Speaker 2 (14:35):
Man.

Speaker 1 (14:36):
Yeah, we need more players like it, to be honest. Okay,
you had mentioned you and Boogie may have gotten into it.
You guys are brothers, but like you get heated like that.
I want to hear more about those and specific stories.
So we're gonna take a break and we come back
here on Point Game. We're gonna have the Marcus Bookie
Cousins on the show. All right, Welcome back to Point

(15:02):
Game with John Walla CJ. Told Donald, presented by DraftKings.
We are so excited our first ever guest here on
Point Game. Olympic gold medalists, four time NBA All Star,
another Kentucky legend, which we're gonna talk about a lot
ladies and gentlemen. DeMarcus Boogie Cousins. What's up, Boogy?

Speaker 4 (15:19):
I'm good, bro, I'm solid man.

Speaker 5 (15:21):
Just enjoying life, you know, under new ventures doing things
like this, which has been really cool. So you know,
things are on up, so just enjoying life.

Speaker 1 (15:31):
Like I was saying, I know you do a lot
of these podcasts, but has it feel to get on
this podcast with your friend and your brother here John wall.

Speaker 5 (15:40):
Oh, man, I'm a little anxious, man. I know how
things get when this dude. A lot of things get
when this dude get a camera in front of you.
So I'm a little nervous, but I'm with whatever. I'm
the homie that's gonna ride.

Speaker 1 (15:52):
I guess this is a question for both of you guys.
We can start off here. Do you guys remember the
first time you sort of met each other and saw
each other play? What was the story there?

Speaker 3 (16:03):
I'm telling you you go first. I got the second part.
You got the first part.

Speaker 2 (16:08):
It was in Detroit, right, Nah? That was yeah, Detroit, Michigan. Detroit, Michigan.

Speaker 5 (16:13):
Yeah, all right, boom. So we're doing a tournament in Detroit, Michigan.
I don't even remember the name of the tournament. This
had to be freshman year, no eighth grade, going to
freshman year, going to freshman year. So, uh, you know,
we're playing this team whatever, and it's this kid that's
just like blazing fast, like the team was cool, Like

(16:37):
they was a decent team, but it was just this
one kid that was just like flying, like and he
was having a you know, good game, but we was,
you know, kind of kicking the ass. So it's this
play where you know, the same kid gets you know,
a crazy dunk. It wasn't nothing crazy, nothing like you know, outstanding,
but it was a nice little dunk, especially for that

(16:58):
age group. So we got the and the crowd went
absolutely nuts and I'm just like, like, who the fuck
is this? Like, what's like, what's going on? Like, So
we finished kicking the ass. You know, we get the
chopping after the game. You know, I'm John Woo woo, uh,
things of that nature, and you know that was kind

(17:19):
of the beginning of our relationship.

Speaker 4 (17:20):
So uh, you know, we kind of hung out.

Speaker 5 (17:22):
It was a big tournament, so we hung out outside
of the gang things like that, and you know, that
was the beginning of the relationship.

Speaker 4 (17:29):
So I'll let you tell the rest five. When we
did down.

Speaker 2 (17:33):
The Road, Yeah, it was.

Speaker 3 (17:35):
It was crazy though because I ain't never really seen
nobody like at the height he was.

Speaker 2 (17:40):
He was skinny as hell though, Like I was skinny
the two pick and.

Speaker 3 (17:44):
I'm like damn like you s thinking can dribble, you
can shoot, you got moves, And I'm like, who is he?

Speaker 2 (17:51):
But I don't know who he is?

Speaker 3 (17:52):
You know, I mean because I never really told you
growing up, I never traveled, never really played out of
state of North Carolina. So I get the dunk and
I'm shocked, my like, this's my first time dunking up
somebody I used just barely dunk at practice. And uh
we chopped up after as we're kicking and talking and whatever,
and we just start building the bond, building a bond.
So my next question I got you book, is like

(18:14):
when did a point to like we thought we wanted
to go play college together, you know what I mean,
Like when did we try to figure that point out?

Speaker 4 (18:22):
Uh?

Speaker 5 (18:25):
I would say that last year at brun Camp raight,
yeah yeah, And uh I just found it crazy, like
cause the way the rankings worked it, you know, it
was every year was a new guy, like or it
may stay the same you just you know, it depended
on the year you was having. So when the when
the Rifles rankings first dropped, I was the first guy
to be named number one in our class. So I

(18:46):
kind of got my name from that, and uh, I
was still kind of an unknown, like I wasn't really
on the scene. Like the rest of the guys were
the Ronaldo Sydneys, the you know, the Lance Stevenson's, the
Xavier Henry's of that nature. So you know, I was
a little off the radar, but I had a name,
so well, you know, I kind of walked in camping.
You know, guys kind of knew who I was, but
at the same time they didn't, Like I said, I'm

(19:06):
under the radar. So this is this is the last year,
which was going into junior year. Perfect, So we walked
into camp, you know, our last camp, which is junior
year going into senior. By this time, you know, five
is mad with John is making a name for himself now,

(19:28):
you know, and you know, this is on our way
out of high school. So at this point, the rankings
are pretty much solidified, like they pretty much know who
they consider the best guy in the class.

Speaker 4 (19:39):
To be, and at this time it was John.

Speaker 5 (19:42):
So John popped on the scene that summer and it
was it was kind of like it was kind of
like a I don't know, you kind of hit the
lottery that summer. Five, Like you know, you you had
one crazy tournament and then boom, that's all you was
hearing John Wallo and I'm like, this is that motherfucker
I'm met in Detroit, Like I'm like, oh, this is crazy,

(20:07):
and it's in my head. I'm like, Damn, it's crazy.
How this shit just kind of work. I'm like, damn,
I watch dude get his first dump to now they're
talking about this is the next d Rose Tyreek Evans
potential number one pick.

Speaker 4 (20:18):
So I'm like, damn, this is crazy.

Speaker 5 (20:20):
So we walk into camp and everybody kind of giving
you know, fire the stink ey like, you know, like,
fuck is this motherfucker?

Speaker 2 (20:29):
No cap?

Speaker 4 (20:30):
Look? So I see my dog.

Speaker 5 (20:31):
I'm like, hey, fine, I ain't come over here, nigga,
Like go sit with me, bros. And it was right,
it was right where we left off, where it was,
you know what I'm saying, Like those two kids in
Detroit that you know, just fans of each other's game,
and we became friends.

Speaker 4 (20:45):
So we kicked off from that point too.

Speaker 5 (20:47):
And at that camp, you know, we really became closer
and that's when our relationship and brotherhood really began. So
after that camp, it's like, hey man, what's up like
what you're trying to do for college?

Speaker 4 (20:58):
And at this time, you know, my still committed to
U A D.

Speaker 5 (21:02):
So, so I'm like, yo, I'm sitting there trying to hey, man,
what you you know?

Speaker 4 (21:09):
Would you ever think about.

Speaker 5 (21:10):
You ain't been And like I said, you hear how
the hype is about this guy. We talk a potential
number one pick and I'm sitting here trying to convince
this guy to come to fucking U A D. So
this dude, like, man, it ain't a chance to heal.
But these are the these are the you know, schools
don't considering. And I would say we had what two
out of three of the same schools maybe, yeah, I

(21:32):
know in c State was one of them.

Speaker 3 (21:33):
What was the what was the Memphis? Memphis was the one.
Remember we didn't have Kentucky. We had Memphis.

Speaker 5 (21:37):
Outside of Memphis though, because that's where we ended up.
But it was one other school, Uh trying you didn't
have Miami on your list? Nah, But they started hollering
at me once they knew we were trying to go
to school together.

Speaker 2 (21:51):
I really think it was just you might you might
be right.

Speaker 4 (21:54):
It might have just been where it was Memphis.

Speaker 2 (21:55):
And ye Memphis State for sure.

Speaker 4 (21:59):
Right, so you know at this point, you know my
stem is I ended up beating in from U A B.
And now my recruitment opened back up.

Speaker 5 (22:07):
But it wasn't really a long process for me because
and actually always knew I wanted to play for cal
and go to Memphis at the time.

Speaker 4 (22:16):
So I believe I committed.

Speaker 3 (22:18):
First, Right, Yeah, but you gotta think you gotta tell
him you you really fell in love with Cale because
who you grew up wanted to.

Speaker 2 (22:24):
Be like you know what I mean, watch play.

Speaker 5 (22:26):
So you know, my my first collegiate game I ever
went to and I like actually knew what was going on.
I got to see it was my seventh grade year.
I got to see UA be playing Memphis, and I
had no clue about Memphis, no clue about Cale. I
was just I got some free tickets. I'm like, fucking,
I'll go to the game. Like so I'm seeing this

(22:48):
guy played and it was Sean Williams. So I'm watching
them play and I'm just like, damn, this dude tall
as hell, like he like I'm kind of trying to
size him up from the sideline. I'm like this dude,
like he about my height, and he handling the ball,
he's shooting threes, he diamond.

Speaker 4 (23:04):
I'm like, that's how I want to play.

Speaker 5 (23:06):
But we kind of came up in the era to
where it's like, shit, you six five up, you put
in the box, you playing the post bro, Like that's
just what it is.

Speaker 2 (23:15):
Like.

Speaker 5 (23:15):
Yeah, so you know, Sean Williams inspired me with the
way he played the game and at the level he
was playing to that. So I'm like, for the most part,
I'm trying to get these coaches to get on the
same page with me, Like I want to play like this.
The coach is like, nah, you need to do this.
So I'm like, man, I think the only way that's
gonna work is if I go play for a guy

(23:36):
like Calipiri. And this is just you know, I'm a
child trying to, you know, figure shit out. I don't
really have a plan. I'm just thinking this is my
way of making it work. So we fast forward back
to what I was saying with Camp and shit, we're
now trying to figure it out. I think Duke came
in last Yeah, right, Like Duke was just something like

(23:58):
they just ain't really fit me, you know. I mean,
like I really wasn't a duke type of guy, be.

Speaker 3 (24:02):
Realistic, Like I'm where I'm from. I don't fit that
type of stare. So I know, like I'm like my
au coach at the time, Brian Clifton, wanted me to
take a visitor, you know what I mean. I know
about Coach K and a historical about it, and I'm like, oh,
I'm just gonna take a visit because it's right up
the street from me. But in my mind, like bug,
ain't not com here. I noticed it ain't have me,
So that's off the radar. So we try to put

(24:23):
and she stayed on the radar a little bit. So
I went on a visit and Derrick Famous is there
with me and this is book rival in high school,
Like who was who is the better one? You know
what I mean, I'll never forget. I'm sitting him play
on TV. Book is demolish and I'm like, damn this
well going coast to coach spin moves like all this
motherfucker really liked that. So me and Daren Famous that

(24:45):
took a picture throwing up the woodpeck and bulld text
me like what we're really doing? I'm like, bro, this
just for this shit, I just got to do it,
so bug ain't noticed. But I told him this, sir
earlier Book. I I called Book. I'm like, yo, Bro,
I'm about to commit the duke and I hung up
on him. Bro, I'm talking about Do you want to
tell me how many times he called me all type
of names?

Speaker 2 (25:05):
Bro? You really sold me out. You're doing this?

Speaker 4 (25:10):
Bro, I was sick.

Speaker 5 (25:11):
I remember that like yesterday, man, and it was like
coming down to the countdown, and like I said.

Speaker 2 (25:16):
It was the wire you last night got to commit.

Speaker 5 (25:20):
So leading up to that fucking phone call, dude telling,
I got like, Bro, I got you, Bro, like we're
going to school together. I'm like, all right, man, I'm
just waiting on Bro to announce. So he called me
and it was maybe.

Speaker 4 (25:32):
An hour before. Like I don't know why. I feel
like it was a deadline or some shit, Like.

Speaker 3 (25:38):
It wasn't a dad Like, remember I had already made
an announcement. What day I was gonna do you know
how you come on? If you go to Rifles of
Scott they be like, all right, Friday at two o'clock,
John Waller de Marcus Cousins committing to this college. I
called him an hour before, like, Bro, before you hit
the news, don't be mad with this where I'm going, And.

Speaker 5 (25:56):
Like he said, he called me, he gave and that's
exactly how this phone call. And it was like, hey Bro,
it wasn't like easing in and it was like, hey Bro,
what up? Yeah, I'm gonna go to do click and
I'm like, Yo, what the fuck?

Speaker 4 (26:11):
So I hit back. I called Bro like ten times,
like y'all like what's up?

Speaker 1 (26:15):
And you didn't answer.

Speaker 2 (26:16):
John. I got to the press m yeah, So I
go to the press compace.

Speaker 3 (26:22):
I go to the press compas at my school, and
my mom did not like the media, bro, like hates
the media, Like coolest mom in the world, but hate
the media. So she wasn't going stage with me. Had
to get my sisters to go up there, and then
he seen where I went, but it was all made
to them. But like you said, when I seen d
Rose play the first game in the Garden Ball against Oklahoma,
I said, no, brain, to what school I'm going to.

Speaker 2 (26:43):
The only thing we had to figure out was.

Speaker 3 (26:45):
Cal called and was like, I'm about to leave Memphis
and go to Kentucky and that I already took a
visitor coming back from the camp in Chicago, and I
was like, all right, I went there and killed, like
playing against the guys, and I'm like, I can go
to the school, but I just couldn't play for the
coach Billy Glespie. At the time, I didn't want to
play them. And once we seen cole One Dare, we
knew the histor you about basketball, so that was a

(27:06):
no braining for us. But like once we went to
the camp and locked in even more and Shane them
was like, I say, they'd been a brotherhood from from
that day for.

Speaker 1 (27:13):
I think basketball fans are like extremely thankful you guys
went to Kentucky because that was one of the most
legendary squads, not even like all five starters. People don't
know all five starters in the first round, like even
just from the before the season Midnight Madness. I was
rewatching the video. You guys were like the Beatles, Like
I know, it was like it was like you guys
were on Cherry Pickers h And I wanted to ask

(27:36):
specific because like it's even in like the character how
you know, I know you guys like Boogie, They cut
to you, they introduced you your stoneface just like cold
everyone had it was in their own personality, But why
were you so serious?

Speaker 3 (27:49):
I tell you why, I'm speaking my truth.

Speaker 5 (27:53):
This is me, bro, this is my time because I've
been holding this shit a long time.

Speaker 4 (28:00):
So when they came to Big Booe Man this.

Speaker 5 (28:02):
Kyle gave me this crazy speech like cause I was like, Yo,
I'm about to go out here, and I'm about to
you know, I'm about to get jiggy out of here,
like we're gonna get the you know, the.

Speaker 4 (28:10):
Crown height bootie wool all that.

Speaker 5 (28:13):
So Kyle overhears me and he like, choose my ads
out before it blue. When you go up there, you
act like a professional. I don't want to see none
of that silly shit wootie wool. I'm like, allright, cold,
my bad, I got you, bro, my bad, Like I
got ahead of myself in my bad.

Speaker 2 (28:29):
So cool.

Speaker 5 (28:30):
Like we never really rehearsed, like the entrance and all
that coming out, so everything was like first tape. So
like I said, my mind was made up to do
one thing. Then Kyle kind of got on my ass
about it. So once we get on the little railing,
like I'm one of the first people to come out too,
So we get on the railing and now I'm like, oh,
this shit like kind of wobbly and it's putting us

(28:52):
probably twelve feet in the agg So I'm like, oh,
this shit like kind of wobbly something and I'm afraid
of heights.

Speaker 2 (28:59):
Bro.

Speaker 4 (28:59):
Like yo. So when I got up.

Speaker 5 (29:06):
There and they started raising that motherfucker, I'm like, oh, ship. Like,
I'm literally about the ship myself because I like terrify.
But at the same time, were standing in front of
sixty thousand people saw I'm like, bro, just keep it cool. Bro,
just you know what I'm saying, Just keep it cool.
So the results was what you saw, which was me
looking like I was scared shitless. But on top of that,

(29:30):
after the speech from Kyle, John went out there and
became this iconic.

Speaker 1 (29:33):
Guy yeah doing it.

Speaker 3 (29:37):
Wasn't he supposed to do? Hey people, they bro, they say,
thought Michelle Blessing. What boy got there and got shook.
I took over this up there and did this ship game.
It was doug no nah.

Speaker 4 (29:55):
But honestly, Bro, you.

Speaker 5 (29:56):
Was the perfect dude for it, because it ain't nowhere
in hell I would have been able to carry that
shy you did.

Speaker 2 (30:01):
It was so crazy.

Speaker 3 (30:02):
It's so crazy at the time because like me and book,
if you go even go like not even go too
far forward, it's like we go to after we get drafted,
were the only one dancing at the rookie transition, like
we always was the one before every Kentucky game. Like
if we won't dancing, we won't winning the game, Like
we won't locked in, we won't lit. So we just
had that different demeanor and domination with each other.

Speaker 2 (30:25):
Bro.

Speaker 3 (30:25):
Like I'm not saying we on shocking Kobe level, but
like that's the bond we have. We played like we
knew how dominant we could be, and we took that
through college so that man night man, it was like
it won't supposed to be like that. But when it
went like that, I was like, damn but rock stars, Bro.
We was that we put college We put college basketball
back where it was and that it was dead for
a long time.

Speaker 2 (30:44):
Bro.

Speaker 4 (30:44):
Absolutely.

Speaker 5 (30:45):
And the crazy thing about it, you know, you know
I tell that story with you know, sensing him behind it,
but like I was saying, like everything that played out
with you know, our time at Kentucky happened exactly the
way it was supposed to. Like everybody ended up benefiting
from it in the exact way they were supposed to. Man,
you know, you take something the smallest man, I was

(31:06):
supposed to be the one dance and that's supposed to
be my song. But like I said, yeah, if this
dude didn't go out and do what he did, like
the rest of us don't shine the way we do,
you know what I'm saying. So in a way I
could be pissed about it, in a way I'm you know,
I'm happy about it because everybody benefited from that moment.

Speaker 1 (31:23):
What about Josh Harrelson. Do you remember his dance?

Speaker 4 (31:26):
George?

Speaker 2 (31:27):
George? You talking about George? I saw that back.

Speaker 1 (31:29):
I was like, we don't talk about Josh Harrelson's dance enough.

Speaker 2 (31:33):
Hey George, Man, George from what Georce was on our team.

Speaker 3 (31:36):
Bro to do what he did a year after that, Bro,
it was amazing to see, Bro because nobody would ever
thought he would be a starting center and doing he
was doing that Kentucky and take them to a final
four light.

Speaker 4 (31:45):
Bro, that motherfucker got drafted.

Speaker 3 (31:48):
Yeah yeah, But I'm just saying like if you, Bro,
if you watched us practice, Bro, you would have said
he just a walk on.

Speaker 2 (31:55):
Bro.

Speaker 3 (31:56):
And he just happy to put on the Kentucky jersey
if you would have been through our practice, you went
through so But my question I got for you is like,
what's one of your favorite moments?

Speaker 2 (32:06):
I got one for you, But I won't know what's
one of your.

Speaker 3 (32:08):
Favorite moments at Kentucky. It's so many, so many, you know,
we got so much.

Speaker 4 (32:13):
We had so many moments, Bro, Like, I don't know, Bro.

Speaker 3 (32:18):
I gotta get cheers. I get cheers when I talk
about us in college all the time.

Speaker 5 (32:22):
Facts, and it's like I got my moments where you know,
he was on some hoop ship, and I got my
moments where we were just on some brotherhood.

Speaker 4 (32:28):
And ship like and this ship, like I'll never forget.

Speaker 5 (32:31):
Like, Bro, honestly, my mom like out of all of
the dope ship we did at our time in Kentucky, Bro, my,
my my most favorite moment was that night at that
Drake concert.

Speaker 4 (32:43):
You remember that it was by and.

Speaker 3 (32:49):
Remember one person couldn't go on at first because they
were they didn't want to sign to an agent. Right there,
I think Blair had to wait, remember for a second,
right right, because you had to. You had to because
for us to go on stage, we had to say
we already was going to the draft, and uh, we'lloger
tell you that story though about why we declared, like
what was going on.

Speaker 5 (33:09):
But you know that moment where we you know, we
all kind of hugged each other and like, you know,
us all knowing each other's background, all these like each
all of us knowing each other's stories, like the struggles,
the traumas like and us being in that moment about
to take our next step in life, which we all
dreamed about and at the same time we dreamed about it,

(33:29):
but in actuality it for us three this ship wasn't
supposed to happen, like like our realities. Wasn't this, like
you weren't kids that you know, were groomed from grade
school to become these professional athletes like we were.

Speaker 4 (33:44):
We three project babies that got it out the mud.

Speaker 5 (33:46):
And that's what and that's what made that moment at
that concert so special, Like it was there that when
we came to tears because we were happy shit and
another and we were proud of you know, of each
other for the fact that we made it that far
and we was about to take our now next step
in our careers.

Speaker 4 (34:02):
Was just being professional athletes.

Speaker 2 (34:03):
So yeah, that was one that was one of my you.

Speaker 3 (34:07):
Know that ship there that brought me that ship then
that brought me to cheers just now just thinking about it,
because I remember when he Blad committed and he said
that famous speech. I forgot what he said. Even what
he said, I can't think of it. It's on YouTube,
the famous speech. And then we get there and they
were like, well, bless her come he committed a point

(34:27):
where I'm like, man, I don't give a fuck, Like
we're gonna battle it out, like that's what we're gonna do.
Remember that, and Cale was like, uh, you're my best
few players. Y'all gonna get on the floor. And then
like I didn't really know Blood and Blood met Blood
like the senior.

Speaker 2 (34:40):
Year, right, like j fauld to bond with him.

Speaker 3 (34:44):
When y'all find a bond, like really start bonding, Like
you probably kne who he was, but when y'all get
like a bond.

Speaker 5 (34:49):
We've been knowing each other since middle school, but I
would say we started bonding like right after you know,
our senior year. Senior year, right, Yeah, And it was
also because for the most part, me and Blair were
like kind of rivals.

Speaker 4 (35:01):
Yeah, start life.

Speaker 5 (35:02):
So it was kind of like I don't fuck with you,
but I du type like yeah, So I would say
after our send year, that's.

Speaker 4 (35:09):
When we really really started to, you know, get close.

Speaker 3 (35:11):
So after that we go to school and like they
kind of know each other, but I only know Bug,
So I'm trying to figure out, like how to be
cool with Blad. So we every day pick up we
damned it about to take each other earrings out, like
we battling every day. And then we all just came
to this shit like we just gonna be the three amigos,
Like you know what I mean, we got three a
for life. We all got it tatt and like everywhere
we went you want seeing one person by itself, like

(35:33):
study hall, class, the gym.

Speaker 2 (35:36):
We was everywhere together and you build that type of bond.

Speaker 3 (35:38):
And like Bug said, just going on that stage like
for me kind of like I had it planned going
into there, like I was gonna win and done, like
everybody knew that.

Speaker 2 (35:46):
For me, Boog didn't think he was gonna be there.

Speaker 3 (35:49):
He thought like two three years, four years, blood Damnitar
thought he was gonna graduate college. So to be on
that stage and know like I brought my brothers with me,
and they put me to a position where I can
be who I could be in Like nobody over like
looked at me like I was trying to be bigger
and better nobody, and I just try to make everybody
better and be the blueprint, the leader for our team.
Like that shit was like chills, Like cause, like you said,

(36:10):
being project babies and not supposed to be on this
platform and make it out the way we did and
all of us go first round. Bro, Like that shit
give you chills to this day watching highlight tapes or
even just talking about.

Speaker 1 (36:21):
You guys mentioned the Drake concert. Why was Drake around
so much? Like he was kind of like looked like
he was trying to be on the team.

Speaker 4 (36:28):
No, no, no no.

Speaker 5 (36:30):
So to break that down, I think you kind of
talking about like Drake later on in the Kentucky years, Like, yeah,
we talk about Drake.

Speaker 4 (36:38):
This was two.

Speaker 5 (36:41):
Ten, this is when Drake came out, Like this is
his coming out on So Drake was, you know, still
super under the radar, Like and that's kind of where
the bond came with Broke. Like I would say, you
could in a way kind of say we were one
of his first fans, like in the beginning stages of
his career.

Speaker 4 (37:00):
Yeah, and we fast forward to now to you.

Speaker 5 (37:02):
Know, obviously he's a musical icon at this point in
his career. And it's like that was also why that
was such a special moment, because we're sitting here watching
the musical icon in the beginning stages of his career.
We're in that moment about this, now take that next
step in the beginning stages of our career. Like yeah,
Like I said, it was just a really really dope

(37:23):
moment being there and seeing that and you know, being
able to think back on it to where we are now,
like you know, everything played out exactly the way it
was supposed to.

Speaker 4 (37:32):
It was such a dope dope.

Speaker 3 (37:33):
Hey, you remember your iconic practice story.

Speaker 4 (37:42):
Bro, We gotta put this story to rest.

Speaker 2 (37:44):
Bro. No, I just I just got to bring that
story because you know, man.

Speaker 3 (37:53):
Yeah, yeah, but this the last time you got it.

Speaker 4 (37:57):
No, you got it, Bro, I don't even know the story.

Speaker 3 (38:00):
Hey, So we so listen for one. When we got there,
me and Hire think we picked the wrong school. We
got to be on the line at six am in
the morning. Like, no, like, listen, listen, you not listening
to me. When six o'clock hit, you better be on
that line, like not six on one, not five fifty nine. Like,
so me and Bull like we chilling, like we got

(38:23):
we share doms together, like Bull like listen to slow jams,
go see but I wanted to watch Sports Center. So
we having arguments every other night, like, Bro, turn the
TV off. I want to go see this. I'm like, Bro,
please go to sea so I can just turn the
slow jairs off.

Speaker 2 (38:35):
He'll wake up. Bro, turn his sports and off. I
ain't trying to hear that.

Speaker 3 (38:38):
So we get up about like five fifteen, getting showered whatever,
go to court. We gotta run twenty suicides in twenty minutes,
like people don't realize, Like I never understood what condition
it was till I got there, right, like we do
fake condition whatever.

Speaker 2 (38:53):
So book feet start burning.

Speaker 3 (38:59):
Like the old fire like fire, but like what y'all
had to finish in like thirty nine seconds, right, Bull,
Like thirty eight y'all got like thirty eight thirty nine right,
big man.

Speaker 4 (39:07):
Bro, I completely shit out my memory.

Speaker 2 (39:13):
As guard.

Speaker 3 (39:14):
As guards, we had to finish in twenty eight seconds,
and we had like thirty two seconds. Spirit they gave
the bigs like thirty nine forty twenty second in spirit,
but the ship was brutal. Like we go back to
the door and we're like, man, were like, yo, I'm
thinking about.

Speaker 2 (39:27):
Transferring this ship. Ain't it for me?

Speaker 3 (39:30):
I was like, well, come on, bro, you're gonna figure
it out. Like it's just something new for all of us.
So his feet start burning. He goes sit on the
sideline the corner, throw his shoes like, man, fuck, this
ain't winning for more cal Like, see.

Speaker 2 (39:42):
If buy would have finished, I would have gave y'all.

Speaker 3 (39:44):
Tomorrow off, said you lie, Like shit. I was like, bro,
you lie. You would have not gonna give us no
day off. So sometimes our punishment was you would have
to sit at half court while the whole team runs
suicides book and have cool and they're like, what we're
gonna do? An'tybody fighting buog bro? So we like we
just we just looking at that. But like he get

(40:05):
to chill, but we gotta run like anybody fighting. Well,
we all got to jump, and ain't nobody winning that battle.

Speaker 5 (40:11):
Hey.

Speaker 4 (40:11):
I did feel bad though, BROD.

Speaker 3 (40:14):
But it was cool though, Like you were like, yeah
you did, but you're like you know what funk is,
just what it is, yeah, bro, but no, this is.

Speaker 5 (40:20):
What changes when Kyle told me like, hey man, listen,
like it's cool. And you know how Kyle is he
always playing them fucking mind games?

Speaker 2 (40:26):
Bro?

Speaker 4 (40:27):
Yeah, it's everything is a mind game. So he came
to me, it's like, hey man, it's cool.

Speaker 5 (40:32):
Then I get it, like if he hurt they burning,
like you know, this is a lot of running the listen, I.

Speaker 4 (40:38):
Don't think you're gonna be a starter.

Speaker 2 (40:40):
Oh yeah. I'm like, well yeah, he said if you
like this.

Speaker 5 (40:47):
Look and you know all the promises to get you
to the school, And I'm just like, I ain't gonna
be a starter.

Speaker 4 (40:52):
What you mean?

Speaker 5 (40:52):
Like you know, like my starters can never get tired
of running. They don't complain about their feet.

Speaker 2 (40:58):
That's the fact. That's the fact.

Speaker 4 (41:01):
So like, man, fuck man, let me put these shoots.

Speaker 1 (41:05):
These are all mind games, right. This is what makes
coach cal.

Speaker 3 (41:09):
This is what makes he plays, bro.

Speaker 2 (41:12):
This is what made Cole's cal Bro Like.

Speaker 5 (41:15):
Constant games, constant trickery. Like, but at the same time,
it prepares you for that next level, like it's a
it's a form of motivation. Like at the end of
the day. He knows how to get the best out
of you, like and even if you gotta you know,
twist your ear a little bit, twist your brain or
make you feel less than what he's going to get
you to that point of where he's trying to get you.

(41:37):
And it's always just a form of you know, like
I said, motivation, like motivating you to push yourself to
that next level, get bring that monster out. And like
I don't think it hasn't worked on the guy yet,
Like I mean, the proof is in the putting this.
It's a machine at Kentucky, so uh, you know his
ways worked.

Speaker 4 (41:57):
They definitely do that.

Speaker 3 (41:59):
If it ain't work, you ain't mentally strong, Bro, that's
all it is. Or it wasn't or it wasn't meant
you just want meant to be for you.

Speaker 2 (42:04):
Yeah, yeah, sure that.

Speaker 1 (42:05):
Type of ship work. Because you guys only lost two games,
and I mean you guys want to three. We lost
three well, so so yeah go ahead.

Speaker 3 (42:13):
Two in the SEC, Bro, two in the SEC. Both
road games though, and the end of tournament.

Speaker 1 (42:17):
Can I can I ask you about that tournament because okay,
Elite eight obviously cry like a baby, I know, do
you guys, remember who you lost.

Speaker 2 (42:27):
To, Yes, coach Joe Miszouli.

Speaker 1 (42:30):
That blew my mind. I didn't realize that because you don't.
You know, we forget about between playing in college and
now he's the coach. What he had seventeen that game
or something like that.

Speaker 2 (42:41):
Bro, Bro Bro that game. Listen, bro, don't hold back.

Speaker 1 (42:45):
I mean the thing is, ain't.

Speaker 2 (42:46):
Nobody hold it back. That's what you're not gonna do.

Speaker 3 (42:48):
But like that game right there, Bro, like it's still
to this day, like I'll be just beginning rudge about it.

Speaker 2 (42:53):
But like they played out of their mind. Bro.

Speaker 3 (42:55):
The first half. They didn't make no two point basket,
make all threes. We started off ero for two. When
he won the twenty two from three, it just like
it won't meant for us, bro, Brop.

Speaker 2 (43:06):
We would have won.

Speaker 5 (43:07):
If we would have won, y'all know Joe Mizzoula was
guarding me in the back of that one three one right, yes,
and y'all motherfuckers wanted to keep shooting fucking threes.

Speaker 3 (43:15):
I'm the ball, bro, not me. I shot two threes, Brody.
I was at the top of the key. I was
swinging to the wing, the wing post to feed the post.
I can't feed the post from the top.

Speaker 4 (43:26):
I was supposed to have forty five that game. Bro, Hey,
La guardened me in the post.

Speaker 3 (43:32):
Hey, Devin Ebanks at the top of the key at
six nine like this, I said, yeah, coach God that
you gotta put me on the wing because me at
the top of the key, that.

Speaker 2 (43:40):
One ain't gonna like.

Speaker 3 (43:43):
You gotta think it's Devin e Banks Kevin Jones about
six eight. They had to Sean Butler at the time
six Then they had then they had the kids Smith,
the j Smith whatever his first name was.

Speaker 2 (43:52):
He was a center like so they was athletic.

Speaker 3 (43:54):
And Joe Mizzoula down there just trying to take his
knee like boxing out his knees the whole time.

Speaker 4 (43:59):
I had a double double.

Speaker 2 (44:00):
No no, no, no, no, no no, you let me.

Speaker 3 (44:03):
You let us, you let us, just know you let
us in scoring, because no, I'm gonna tell you where
that you let us in scoring, because they start off
in man me and you cooking him. We scored like
the first twelve points. And I walked past Bob Huggs.
He said, I'm not guard y'all a man no more.
He told you that, and I was like, man, they
knew they couldn't guard us in Man, I was blowing
right by them having a few day step up. I'm

(44:23):
throwing the book, but I'm gonna tell you what really
fucked us up and book. Remember this, We was at
shoot Around. We were so anxious to see Duke, Bro, Like,
we wanted to play Duke so bad. We wanted to
play duke so bad because Kle never got the chance
to play duke, you know what I mean. And the
first time he really got the play is when he
had Zion and they beat the hell out of us
in Chicago. So and shoot Around, we like we we

(44:47):
never overlooked Wes Virginia feeling like we knew we could
we could beat him. But we were just like, Bro,
we got to get the duke, like we got to
get the Duke, Like we wanted them so bad that
we didn't really game plan the way we should have
afford that team and they and they was an older
team that exposed.

Speaker 4 (44:59):
Us absolutely, that kicked our ass.

Speaker 2 (45:02):
Bro.

Speaker 5 (45:04):
I mean what you remember what I said to you
after that game in the locker room and your ass
was doing all that damn crying.

Speaker 2 (45:10):
Nah, I was hurt, Bro, I want the championship.

Speaker 5 (45:13):
I wanted it too, but I'm sitting nextive, I'm sitting
next to this guy after the game. You know, we
just lost, and I'm kind of like that I'm.

Speaker 2 (45:23):
Thinking about coming back. I know I'm doing.

Speaker 4 (45:25):
No, not that I'm not talking about that part. I'm
not that far.

Speaker 5 (45:28):
I'm the friend that kind of say ship that at
the wrong time, but I kind of wanted to bake the.

Speaker 4 (45:33):
Ice tpe ship.

Speaker 5 (45:34):
So it's like he over here like in full tears,
like hurt because we lost the game, and I just
kind of like, I'm.

Speaker 4 (45:40):
Like, Yo, what the fuck you crying for?

Speaker 3 (45:42):
You?

Speaker 4 (45:43):
What you mean me? Just like I said, bit you
the number one pick? What the fuck you crying for? Man?

Speaker 2 (45:48):
Bitch, I feel this. I feel this.

Speaker 4 (45:54):
Oh man, I'll never forget that.

Speaker 5 (45:56):
And that was the like the dopest thing about, you know,
our experience there, because it's like even me saying that
in humor, it's like, I look at this guy, the
potential number one pick, well no, not potential, he was
guaranteed number one pick. And the fact that he could
show that much passion, that's that much love not only for.

Speaker 4 (46:17):
You know himself.

Speaker 5 (46:18):
In the Jersey that he has on at the time,
but the guys around him, and just to see that
emotion after the game from this like this guy that's
our star player, our number the number one pick in
the drift is I'm like, damn, like this is a
really you know, solid dude. And you know, even though
we do have our relationship in college, you know, you
still learn about each other. You still you know, figure

(46:39):
things out about each other. And seeing him in that
moment of like you know, giving it all, you know,
knowing that his heart was in the right place, his
intentions were in the right place, I'm like, this dude
gonna have a bright future, which he you know, ended
up doing. But in that moment, I'm like, damn, that's
you know, that's really dope to see, Like you know
what I'm saying.

Speaker 1 (46:57):
So I've heard on it actually other interviews about coach
cal where you know, I think Boogie you had talked
to him, you're considering stand another year, and his answer
was always like, you want to help me out, you stay,
You want to you know, go and feed your family,
take care of yourself, you go to the league. Now,
now we're in a situation where nil exists. What if
there was nil back then, would you guys have considered

(47:19):
because you guys were rock stars, you weren't like that
fab five type thing where it was like.

Speaker 3 (47:23):
Five hell, y'all would have got city. Would I was
getting the NBA, I would have got that times. I
don't know what it well. I would have probably be honest.

Speaker 5 (47:34):
I probably would have said all Poe bro, I would
have got comfortable out there.

Speaker 4 (47:38):
Brother.

Speaker 2 (47:39):
I probably be honest so that it's like I ain't lie.

Speaker 3 (47:42):
But it's a hard question to add because we were
probably get with six like six, five, six, seven a
year like our rookie year first year. Yeah, like four
like six. We probably could have got that like eight
to ten for one more year. In gods, I would
have said ship fact and I really wanted to win
a tampionship like everyone' for me going then on one
and then this guy like this guy right here I
call my brother, like and I got to give you

(48:05):
a flowers, bro, we're gonna get deeper and to give
you those. But our team would have been our team
in the half court without him, you know what I mean?
Because like me, I was the guy that was a
fast paced, pushed the pace. But our whole half core
offense was between him and Patrick Pattison, you know what
I mean? Like that was our go to guys and
them ben as dominant he was and being what they
was for us made us who we are. But the
n il shit would have been tough. I ain't gonna lie.

(48:27):
They just I think they just offered Marvin Harrison, like
twenty four twenty two men try to get him to
come back for one year, and that's what he made
for four years.

Speaker 2 (48:34):
He gonna make his rookie deal in the league.

Speaker 4 (48:36):
He turned it down.

Speaker 2 (48:37):
Yeah, he went to.

Speaker 1 (48:38):
Yeah, I mean, you already know how dominant you are
in college, and we know how fun college is. You're
making that money.

Speaker 3 (48:44):
Well, it was fun for us because like I and
I was still telling somebody that they but like cal
really told us every game we played with everybody's super Bowl.
So the bullshit bank shots, hook shots, whatever shots they take, Bro,
they are making and we didn't realize it early on.

Speaker 2 (48:58):
That's what I think when.

Speaker 3 (48:59):
You play the Tucky all yr that first game.

Speaker 4 (49:03):
We realized right away, Yes.

Speaker 2 (49:05):
Moved that Sam Houston, Sam Houston, what was bro name?

Speaker 3 (49:09):
No?

Speaker 2 (49:09):
No, No, does Mimi Ohio? Does Miami Hi?

Speaker 3 (49:11):
Sam Houston when they do Corey a hit like fourteen threes,
bro Corey Baltimore.

Speaker 4 (49:16):
Yes, Bro Corey shout out to Corey on.

Speaker 3 (49:19):
Bro but Miami with how you almost took us out
in my first game because I was spending the first
two games. That's when I had the game winner. We
almost got it home. I was like, yeah, we lost
our first home game. That would have been rough for
us so quick.

Speaker 2 (49:33):
So what So, how did you feel when you got drafted?

Speaker 3 (49:39):
Like how did that pressure come off your bat when
you when they called your name that night?

Speaker 4 (49:44):
Honestly, Bro, Like that ship didn't really hit me till
later on.

Speaker 5 (49:49):
And the reason why I say that, And when I
say later on like I was in sack, like I'm like,
oh shit, I just got drafted. Like but the reason
I say that, and I'm sure you can, you know,
piggyback off of this, But in that draft moment, as
a kid, you dream of the draft like you dream
of it. They call you on stage, you walk across

(50:10):
the stage. You know, you shake the commissioner's hand and
you feel like you're gonna go in the back and
you know, group hugged the family.

Speaker 4 (50:18):
Everybody.

Speaker 5 (50:20):
Man, I walked across the stage, went in the back
and got straight to work, bro, Like interview after interview
after interview after in it. And I'm like, after we
walked across the stage, we probably were in the back
for I'm gonna say at least three to four hours
she's doing.

Speaker 4 (50:41):
Yeah, I wouldn't you, fine, I wouldn't you.

Speaker 2 (50:43):
I was mad as hell finish those third but I
was mad as hell, bro.

Speaker 4 (50:46):
But we back there three for I was just doing interviews,
like interviews, pictures. It was just this whole media like circus.
So and it's like it's not where they prepare you before.
It was kind of just thrown at you.

Speaker 5 (50:59):
So by the time I got, you know, out of
and the draft is what seven eight o'clock at night.

Speaker 4 (51:04):
Shit, By the.

Speaker 5 (51:04):
Time the draft was over and we finished all that,
it was like midnight, one in the morning.

Speaker 4 (51:09):
So I'm like drained.

Speaker 5 (51:11):
Like so I'm like, well, goddamn, Like, this is what
the you know, like the NBA is, I'm assuming. So
for me, it was it was kind of where I
was just kind of caught off guard because I wasn't
expecting all these things to happen after you walk across
the stage.

Speaker 2 (51:25):
Yeah, So.

Speaker 5 (51:28):
Yeah, I kind of answered my question. I was a
little thrown off, bro, Like I'm like, damn, it's a.

Speaker 3 (51:32):
Lot, Like yeah, I was just the whole process was amazing,
you know what I mean, because just being in New York,
you know, you go a lot of people don't get
to go there a week before and get to go
through all that process. And for me, it made it
dope because my mom birthday was on that Tuesday, you
know what I mean, So I me that Monday. So
I got drafted on the twenty fourth, so she picked
my suit and all that out and uh, just to

(51:53):
see all the guys Like I'm in the back. But
I'm like he said, we did for like five six hours.
But I hear like bull go, then Packed go, then
bled go, then or go. I'm like, but what the
hell we just do now? We really just put five
in the first round. And it was amazing because when
I got there, Cow, I was like, don't leave by yourself.
I'm like, fuck, you mean, don't leave by yourself, Like

(52:14):
I'm gonna take somebody with me. And the season got
to go in and I realized what he was talking about.
Then bug names start going and no, Lie, Bro like
every practice it was like at least twenty thirty GM
scouts whatever book and every practice on the sideline like
it felt like we was on a microscope.

Speaker 2 (52:28):
So we couldn't have a bad attitude that practice. We
couldn't do this.

Speaker 3 (52:32):
So it's like we it felt like we had the
social media eyes on this before it was cameraphones and
all that.

Speaker 2 (52:37):
Yes, and we had to live in that spotlight.

Speaker 3 (52:39):
Only one that really thought we was going with me
and Pat like Buog thought he was gonna be there
a couple of years.

Speaker 2 (52:43):
Blood didn't think so, Daniel didn't think.

Speaker 3 (52:45):
So for all of us to set a record to
get five in the first round, that was that was
pretty special.

Speaker 1 (52:50):
Man talked, he talked about five players from your guys'
team first round. Now, UK no one for putting guys
in the league. So here's my question to you. If
you had to build a starting five out of only
Kentucky players to win an NBA title, who would you pick?
Did you go first? And John you rate?

Speaker 2 (53:13):
You rate?

Speaker 1 (53:13):
You tell us if that would be your squad.

Speaker 4 (53:16):
I'm gonna go Jay Wall, Anthony Davis.

Speaker 5 (53:22):
Uh D book And it always gets tricky with this
three spot. Yeah to win a college championship.

Speaker 1 (53:37):
No n B A NBA. So account for them, Yeah,
account for their.

Speaker 5 (53:41):
I'm gonna go off the limb. I'm gonna go on
my with the bro Kid Gilly. I'm going with Kid
Gilly at the three bro NBA Championship, right, NBA Championship.

Speaker 1 (53:52):
Is that enough? John? You think?

Speaker 2 (53:54):
Yeah? Hell yeah? Said nothing?

Speaker 4 (53:58):
Boy?

Speaker 3 (53:58):
I tell you, Bro, Like be honest, Bro, Like it's
the heart like the big man in the guards you
can contemplate all day and three man is where the
spot is a little.

Speaker 2 (54:09):
Like it's like a little open there. So like for me,
what era are we playing it? Like small ball.

Speaker 1 (54:16):
Era now or when we came Oh yeah, go ahead.

Speaker 3 (54:19):
That's what I'm asking you, Like, that's what we can
answer that because like if we're going small ball era,
I'm going me Jamal married the two D book at
the three, a D at my four and book at
my five. If we're going small ball area, because I
got two knockdown shootings that can defend you know what
I mean, they gonna challenge and I got two guys
back there.

Speaker 2 (54:36):
Now.

Speaker 3 (54:36):
If we going when we first came in, I'm putting
Gil Chris at my three got the same same. I'm
putting the book at my two door. I got the
same team as him. But if we're going small ball,
oh man, you can't do nothing with a D and
boog they both spaced. I'm putting book in a spacer
a D Rowland and she got married and D book.

Speaker 2 (54:55):
What you're gonna do? I'm just running the show.

Speaker 1 (54:57):
I mean, yeah, that's what we're seeing dudes from Kentucky
every year winning.

Speaker 2 (55:00):
So it's like, but like, I got a second team.
That's even crazy.

Speaker 3 (55:04):
I could go bam, I go bam Cat Dearn Fox
like I can go for days.

Speaker 1 (55:10):
Okay, So what he is it? Is it cal just
knowing the talent? Or is it also just like if
you learned something at Kentucky, Like, what what makes you
guys so successful in the league.

Speaker 2 (55:25):
I'm gonna tell you what makes it special?

Speaker 4 (55:27):
Bro?

Speaker 3 (55:29):
All of us was avaging twenty twenty five thirty points
in high school. We all could have said fuck it,
were going to a school where we can be that
guy and do that. We all took a back seat
to be like we avaging fifteen sixteen fourteen points and
look where all God is to where we go to
the league and then go be back to what we
was being is dominant, you know what I mean, Like
the book didn't start.

Speaker 2 (55:51):
A lot of guys don't remember Devin book. It didn't start.

Speaker 3 (55:53):
I mean, like it's just crazy because like he finds
a way to get you all to play together and
the brotherhood make you want to compete and play against
those guys. Bro Like every day at practice, Like no, lie,
when we was at school, we would pray for three
to four hours. Bro, Like they had to kick us
out the gym. He was playing pick up all fucking day.
So all you believed that, but you just got to
have a mastermind. But you got to have those players

(56:15):
and those guys that respect each other. I feel like
we all respect each other, Like boy, Matt Dowald's all
American this Like they respected each other, and I think
that's where you build that bond thet.

Speaker 4 (56:23):
Yeah, I agree with that. I agree.

Speaker 3 (56:26):
I hate It's like I hate it's like Cale ain't
win enough championships, but he's done so much more than
just winning championship, if you know what I mean, Like
he's being a real father figure to a lot of people,
really helping people get to that blue print.

Speaker 2 (56:39):
Like he told bull like, you want to help me stay,
you want to help your family go.

Speaker 4 (56:43):
And I ain't gonna lie, bro. I could take it
even further than that.

Speaker 5 (56:45):
He honestly helped kind of evolutionize the game, like he
made it cool to do the one and done shit.

Speaker 4 (56:52):
That shit was frowned upon in college basketball.

Speaker 5 (56:54):
So he really a pioneer in this shit, regardless of
you know how many championships and you know that shit
kind of once you become great, once you become Hall
of Fame, it's hard to sit there and compare you
to the next guy because Kyle has done so many
iconic things to just help push this game forward that

(57:14):
aren't going to show up on the Hall of Fame statue.
Like yeah, maybe you won't be able to say he
won twenty five national championships, but the impact he had
on college basketball will never go you know, unnoticed on
and talked about. Like, so, you know, regardless of the championships,
this Kyle is like an official official legend of his

(57:35):
college basketball shit, just because how he helped, you know,
transtend this game and the game probably wouldn't be where
it is today without Caliperio.

Speaker 4 (57:44):
And that's just the.

Speaker 2 (57:45):
Understrue and even the fucking dribble drive offense. Bro Like
I mean about to say, even to figure out that book.

Speaker 3 (57:53):
I think like the way the league is now playing
small ball, and I so want to go get a bucket.

Speaker 2 (57:58):
That's all you doing, that g techy you couldn't get
like he told us.

Speaker 3 (58:01):
If you can't get a one on one bucket, come
on and see it right next to me, you waste
your time as a guard.

Speaker 4 (58:06):
I agree, Boogie.

Speaker 1 (58:08):
You talked about Ad like you played in you know,
New Orleans, And to me, that's one of the biggest
what ifs. If you guys were healthy, full strength, what
are you thinking you could have done?

Speaker 3 (58:18):
I counted that game off the schedule we played him, man, I.

Speaker 4 (58:23):
Think it could have been something really really special. I
ain't gonna go.

Speaker 5 (58:26):
As far as like, yeah, we could have been a
dynasty and all of these things, because it was a
lot of things that weren't correct with the team at
the time, But just as far as the duo between
me and Ad, the chemistry that we were able to create,
just being able to both become productive being next to
each other on the floor, because honestly, when the trade happened,

(58:49):
Like in my head, I'm like, why the fuck with
they team me and Anthony Davis up and we kind
of do the same shit. And you know, I ended
up having a conversation with out and Gentry at the time,
and you know, he just kind of explained things to me,
and it kind of you know, eased up that, you know,
that pressure of trying to make it make it work
because one we had such a creative coach. Offensively, he

(59:13):
wasn't afraid to try things. He you know, he kind
of put that that that running gun offense in Phoenix that.

Speaker 4 (59:19):
You know, it's kind of what the league you know,
turned into.

Speaker 5 (59:24):
So you know, he allowed me and they need to
play freely, to be creative and uh, you know, like
I said, we were able to create that chemistry in
that bond to where we were both dominant on the
floor at the same time. And also we could just
you know, I can cover up his weaknesses and vice versa.

Speaker 4 (59:41):
So you know, it was short lived.

Speaker 5 (59:44):
I do think it could have been something special, but uh,
you know it's gonna always be just a hypothetical.

Speaker 3 (59:50):
Hey, book, how would you want people to remember your
career and your legacy you left on the court.

Speaker 4 (59:57):
Uh, I think.

Speaker 2 (01:00:01):
All the time.

Speaker 5 (01:00:03):
I think, you know, just in today's society and how
shit work now, like it's it's you know, we live
in a time of what you've done lately.

Speaker 4 (01:00:11):
It's not really about what the full body of work.

Speaker 5 (01:00:14):
It's always about what you can do, you know, as
of right now and as of lately. So you know,
you just got to kind of grow to accept that
that's just the times we're in. But you know, as
long as I like my peers validate you know, how
I feel of what I felt i'd done in this game,
it ain't a room. I don't walking with my peers,
don't you know, give me my flowers to me I

(01:00:36):
was this day. It don't matter if it was a
Ogi or a young fella. And that's what you know,
stamps to validate that. I know, I left, you know,
some type of a print on this game. And I'm
not mad at it, like you know what I'm saying,
Like I said, I understand the times we're in. And
then when it comes to the you know, to the likes, uh,
you know, the bigs of today's game where it's you know,

(01:00:58):
the calling of the towns on the bees and the
kola Yokics like the win Bees like.

Speaker 4 (01:01:03):
That, and it's continuing to grow, like check. Just the
list goes on and it's like.

Speaker 5 (01:01:12):
I'm I'll never sit here and be like, yeah, I
was the first guy like to be that, because that's
just not completely true. Like I think I came in
with my own style, and it wasn't a style that
you know, the NBA or coaches or you know, even
the league was really accustomed to. You know, they were
more so with the traditional bigs. Like I remember being

(01:01:32):
a rookie, you know, getting flat from my coaches because
I didn't want to I didn't want to practice a skyhook,
Like I'm like that, ain't that ain't my game? Bro,
That ain't like how I you know, I do my thing.
So it was just, you know, it's the time and
the things. It's the era that I came in, and
like I said, these guys are today's game.

Speaker 4 (01:01:53):
They've just taken.

Speaker 5 (01:01:54):
That that small sample that I tried to come in
with with just trying to be my own own style
of player, have my own style, and they man, they
took that ship and it's.

Speaker 4 (01:02:04):
On stealing with it. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:02:07):
So that's why I never and I can't see here
that like I didn't steal from Power Gasol, Carmelo, Anthony, Haquem,
Elijah Won, shaquill On Knit like I stole things from them.
So who am I to be here and say, yeah
I did. I started this, this and this like when
the Rashid Wallace's guys, the BIG's being able to spread
the floor and and and do different things with the ball.

Speaker 4 (01:02:29):
So I think that's just how this game goes.

Speaker 5 (01:02:32):
It's home always be a guy that kind of pushes
it to the next level, and then it's gonna be
another young crop of guys to come up and do
it even better. Were living in a time now we're
probably we feel like we'll never see another guy like
Steph Curry, Like we thought we'd never see another guy
like Jordan or or Kobe or. But the game is
just gonna continue to, you know, evolve and become better

(01:02:53):
and better to the point where ship we're gonna be
looking like the guys from the sixties.

Speaker 4 (01:02:58):
Yeah if that makes sense.

Speaker 5 (01:02:59):
No, no, not to them, but eventually, the way we
play the game, it's gonna look old and born like.

Speaker 4 (01:03:05):
And that's just how this game works for sure.

Speaker 1 (01:03:07):
That bo you recently said, I think it's on pg's
podcasts that you were cool with moving on from the NBA, So, like,
what are some aspirations you have? Like I've been seeing
you do a little bit of the media stuff, Like what,
what's what's next for you?

Speaker 5 (01:03:23):
I'm still dibbling, dibbling in a lot of things. You know,
I'm regardless of my basketball career stops or keeps going
in the NBA, I'm still a brand.

Speaker 4 (01:03:33):
I still have a name, and I've come to understand
these things.

Speaker 5 (01:03:38):
My name still rings bells across the water or wherever
the case may go. So, uh, you know, you kind
of get a lot of guys that end up in
these situations. And I've spoke with different people about it,
like you kind of get in a position where you
don't know what your next step is or you don't
really know what to do because you're so accustomed to
doing things a certain way for so long. Like I

(01:03:59):
was born in raised in the NBA, if that makes sense,
Like I came in at nineteen facts I was a kid,
and I turned into a man in the NBA. So
to now wake up the next day and it's just
like all right, well, yeah, you gotta do something different
or you know.

Speaker 4 (01:04:11):
What I'm saying.

Speaker 5 (01:04:12):
Oh, well, yeah, now you're playing in Puerto Rico or
Taiwan or whatever the case may be. Like the things
that I was accustomed to and used to, it's completely changed.
And I'm a firm believer in you know, becoming comfortable
with the uncomfortable, or you know, being comfortable with being uncomfortable,
And that's kind of the stage I'm at and I

(01:04:32):
never I've never been a person to put myself in
a box. I've grown to the point where, you know,
I'm not afraid to try things and see what I
am capable of. So I'm enjoying this part with you know,
just being able to use my voice, use my platform,
spread knowledge, you know, put my opinion on the game,
and it actually be respected and heard.

Speaker 4 (01:04:54):
So I think that's really cool. I think I got
a lot of potential in this area. So I'm much
just keep it moving.

Speaker 5 (01:04:59):
But for the most part, just taking this transition from
you know, being a professional athlete and now being able
to come home and be an everyday dad has been
one of the most special parts of my entire journey
because I pride myself on being you know, a father,
you know, I've dealt with my traumas as a kid,
and uh, that's something I've promised my social office little boy.

(01:05:22):
When I have my own, it's gonna be different from
them than it was for me. And that's just where
I'm at in my life right now.

Speaker 2 (01:05:27):
Gotta be like that man having kids, Man, that ship
is a blessing.

Speaker 3 (01:05:30):
Yeah, It's like, I don't know how people don't want
to be around their kids. Bro, that's I don't know
how people did it growing up, Like, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:05:37):
I can't do.

Speaker 5 (01:05:37):
It and them and them, little Rascal is gonna be
the one that's gonna humble.

Speaker 4 (01:05:42):
Yeah, outside, I.

Speaker 5 (01:05:43):
Got my warrior gear on, and I'm not really affirmed.
Take Teddy Bell when you get home, you feel me
and they the only ones that deserved that.

Speaker 3 (01:05:52):
That's just how he over there watching Paupa Troy. Don't
tell anybody I tell you.

Speaker 1 (01:05:57):
I want to say that to you, guys, because when
I met you, Jonica, only like a few weeks ago,
like hearing that you know you're a dad, You're you're
like take so much pride to be able to go
to your kids stuff, and like I'm a dad too,
and the coolest thing for me is that, you know,
and I think he'll he'll like basketball is already saying
basketball is almost two. But then like a few years
when he understands, I'm gonna get to show him like, oh,

(01:06:17):
I'm talking to you know, NBA legends and so it's
crazy to hear you guys like, man, I'm ready. I'm
a dad now and like take so much talk about it,
like with the same energy you guys talk about your careers.
So it makes me feel like, man, that's cool. I
get to be a dad too, like my my favorite
NBA players.

Speaker 3 (01:06:32):
Yeah, me and Bud were just talking about this, probably
a couple of days ago and just talking about like
find out what's the next steps? You know what I mean,
because like I'm in the spot where Boog was at,
like do I go, am I getting a chance back
at the NBA or I'm taking that next step and
just having a brother that being through it and went
through it, you know what I mean, having somebody I
can talk to and I need that advice to try
to feel like what's next for me, what's the next experience,
what's the next gap? It's amazing, but like, yeah, being home, bro,

(01:06:55):
pick dress my kids, in the morning, taking to school,
taking a soccer practice, taking a boxing the smile on
their face, like that's what this shit is all about,
Like this is what we played in the NBA for,
Like this is why we sacrifice everything we did that
our mom did for us to get to this point.

Speaker 2 (01:07:08):
So it's a blessing. I'm loving the hell out of it.

Speaker 3 (01:07:11):
I got this other question, but how would you oversee
experience being so far, Like how you think it's been
for you, Like was it too much of a big
adjustment or was it being kind of calm for you?

Speaker 5 (01:07:20):
It's definitely a big adjustment, and I don't think it's
something that's impossible. It's just more about, you know, shifting
your mindset, like really getting back in that grind though
you know that you know that mode you was in
when you was trying to make it Like that's kind
of where you gotta shift your mind back to. And
you know, just being on you know, at this point

(01:07:42):
of my career now and now experience and overseas life
and think and all that. Like I've gained a whole
new respect for this hoop shit in general. And you know,
we think, you know, we sit here and complain and
shit about you know the different things and rightfully so,
but do you know the different experiences and things we
got to go through with the NBA. But them dudes
over there, bro, that grind they going through like they

(01:08:05):
don't get enough credit like and and now just hearing
these guys' stories and seeing what they go through on
an everyday basis, like even now I can, I'll sit
there and be their teammate and just hear their story
and see the way they grind.

Speaker 4 (01:08:18):
And it's just like, damn bro, Like, who the hell
am I even be complaining? Like feel like we absolutely
And then on top of all that.

Speaker 5 (01:08:27):
It's just the fact that it's so much fucking talent
out here in this world with the game of who, Like,
we sit here and we get brainwashed to thinking like
all the best talent in the world is only in
the NBA. That's a goddamn lie. That's all a lot
of overseas. It's motherfucker's overseas that will literally destroy motherfuckers

(01:08:50):
in the NBA. And I and I'll die, like I'll
put my life on the line saying that. And uh,
you got guys like fucking Tramont, like it's the list
goes on broke, like these some of the coldest dudes
I've ever seen with a ball in their head, and like,
you know, they may not and it's not necessarily that

(01:09:12):
they're a bad person or you know, they they lack something.
This NBA shit is literally about who you know, an
opportunities and sometimes perfect time has missed the opportunity and timing,
bro Timing is everything, Representation is everything. So it's a
lot of shit that kind of goes in into this
business outside of just being good at basketball. Because I'm
gonna be honest, that's probably about ten percent of it. Yeah,

(01:09:35):
and put sure the casual or or the casual fan
or a person that's you know, not as in depth
when it comes to this business. That's what they think. Yeah,
just gonna be good at basketball, you got a chance
of making That's not the case that that's far.

Speaker 3 (01:09:48):
From the truth, Nah, because you got guys like Jordan Crawford,
Marshawn Brooks that was in the league that bone and
five bucket getters in I feel like if they was
drafted and this time now, it'd be the per the
road for me. I mean, but when we came in,
you really had to be it wasn't really no legit
six man like that like that, Like but I feel
like they could have been to Lou Wills or the
Jamal Crawfords or like the Norman Powers. Now it's just

(01:10:12):
like you said, perfect time and the situations like that.

Speaker 5 (01:10:14):
And shit even even the piggyback off of that. When
we came into the league five, like small scoring guards
was like frown.

Speaker 2 (01:10:21):
To punk, like, man, you had to be a true
point guard.

Speaker 5 (01:10:24):
Yeah, you had to be a past first guard to
even you had to be passed first. You had to
have a certain amount of size on you to even
play the position. So like these small scoring guards, they
didn't even get opportunity. So us coming up in the hoogame,
there's plenty of guys that I know was cold, small
cold Isaiah Thomas, our our generation, Isaiah been doing this

(01:10:46):
shit since we was.

Speaker 3 (01:10:47):
Pup shit Thomas, do you remember Tommy Mason Griffin bro
Come on, man, you know what? Yeah, I'm just saying like, yeah,
like the original has he put up Like come on.

Speaker 1 (01:10:58):
We saw Ronde Hollis, Jefferson past feeback like people forgot
about him. Right, he was on the nuts and then
he was cooking everyone looking like Kobe.

Speaker 3 (01:11:05):
But that's how I say. I just feel like it's
perfect time. And man, the league has changed, Like I'm
not taking nothing away from now of these guys. These
guys is fucking talent, you know what I mean. It's
just like we all be like I've seen bug Go
get fucking fifty and fourteen. I don't want and got
forty and fourteen. And this is when the league was
too bigs and it was hard to get through the
paint and try to finish. So imagine what the motherfucker
dude with the spacing is it is now?

Speaker 2 (01:11:27):
It be a phield day, you know what I mean.

Speaker 3 (01:11:28):
So the space and the physic caalitary it's nonexistent. You
was out there getting put in headlocks and stuff like that.
Like all I did was used to attack the basket
and average four free throws. I'm like, how the hell
I do that?

Speaker 2 (01:11:39):
Ain't I ain't shooting twenty threes, But you know, it's
the nature of the game. But all these guys are
fucking talent.

Speaker 3 (01:11:44):
Like growing up, I didn't have a training Like these
guys are six years old, five years old working with
NBA training, So that's why they bloss him in their
game is so advanced. I go to YouTube them saying,
kid with more hands I ever fucking seen like Kyrie
Irvan at eight years old? How the hell you know?
Heavy heady tween? Step back, You're like, I know it
to him.

Speaker 1 (01:12:01):
They got film They got films since the day they're born. Well, okay,
so this is the last question, and Bookie, we appreciate
your time with He stayed on here longer than we are,
really appreciative. Segue from the last question, would you guys
ever consider playing together overseas one last time?

Speaker 4 (01:12:17):
Well, yeah, easy, easy.

Speaker 5 (01:12:20):
Obviously it's gonna have to be a situation convenient for
us both, but absolutely, But.

Speaker 2 (01:12:25):
We had we we've been had talks about this man.

Speaker 3 (01:12:27):
Like yeah, and like I said, given flowers, bro, Like
bull gave me my flowers. Like I didn't know you
felt this way about like how I handled myself in Kentucky.
We was in Houston, like we played there, but every
day we just in our apartment just kicking and like
we going to Saints Foods by just kicking. Like I said,
Like I don't really call a lot of people my brothers,
you know what I mean, Like we all the socials
because we play in this NBA and be around a

(01:12:49):
lot of celebrities, but I ain't been to this man
when and when the best man had fun, like my
mama came to that, like here's a person Like when
he towards acl Bro, I was devastated my next day.

Speaker 2 (01:13:00):
I'm flight.

Speaker 3 (01:13:00):
I was with him for a whole four or five days,
like just making sure here, I mean making sure he did.
And that's like the type of love you don't get
from a lot of people. So like, you know, I
love you, boy. I'm glad you came on the podcast.

Speaker 2 (01:13:11):
Man. You know, it is always what it is between.

Speaker 4 (01:13:13):
Us, You know what it is, bro, love always appreciate
appreciate it. Yes, sir, sir, thanks so much.

Speaker 1 (01:13:19):
That's been the Marcus Cousins Point Game watch. I mean
just follow follow the dude.

Speaker 5 (01:13:24):
You'll see him absolutely all right, book, all right, Bro'll
be cool man, Thanks man, appreciate your time.

Speaker 4 (01:13:31):
Thanks sir.

Speaker 1 (01:13:38):
All right, welcome back to Point Game. Our final segment
the favorite Bucketer Brick and it's just as a reminder,
Bucketer Brick is brought to you by DraftKings sports Book.
Draftking sports Book is your home for all things NBA.
Action from player props, the same game parlays. Check out
everything DraftKings Sportsbook has to offer to make your NBA
experience even sweeter. The crown is yours. Okay, John, we

(01:14:01):
played Bucketer Brick on the first episode. Just to reminder
for everyone at home watching this, I'm gonna say an
NBA statement, and if John agrees with that, he's gonna
say Bucket. If he disagrees, he's gonna say Brick. So
are you ready for this?

Speaker 5 (01:14:14):
John?

Speaker 2 (01:14:15):
For show that you know that?

Speaker 1 (01:14:16):
Okay? The first one Victor Wembayama, who's been impressive since
the break. I mean he's just like you know, they
call him the alien. We haven't seen anyone like him before.
His odds to win Rookie of the Year are currently
negative seven to fifty minus seven fifty, which means if
you bet seven hundred and fifty dollars, you win one hundred.
So he's a big favorite. So Bucketer Brick Wemby will

(01:14:36):
be the Rookie of the Year this year and an
All Star next year.

Speaker 3 (01:14:41):
Oh, I say Bucket, I mean, I know Check is
playing amazing. You don't get me wrong, you know, I
mean he's the hell of a talent and he probably
got there, what number one, number two team in the West.

Speaker 2 (01:14:50):
I just don't like the rule.

Speaker 3 (01:14:53):
Have you already been in the league for a year,
even though you didn't play, like you get a chance
with every good of year because you got up full
experience of how the NBA game works you and you
can't control that injuries happy, So I'm not blaming nobody
for that.

Speaker 2 (01:15:04):
But Womy's amazing, bro.

Speaker 3 (01:15:05):
Like, yeah, stuff, He's doing his own and I think
every since they put him at the five, the center position,
he's been dominant even more now. I mean at the four,
he was playing okay, doing well, but since he's been
at the five.

Speaker 2 (01:15:14):
It's amazing.

Speaker 3 (01:15:15):
He just did a move last night, went behind the back,
did my move and threw out the backboard and tried
to dunk it where they fouled him. And I was like, nah, bro,
and he's only gonna get better, and I like, and
I mean, he's in a great organization. Though they developed
they guys the right way. Grandpapavich is not going to
force it, you know. I mean he didn't try to
play him thirty forty minutes early on, but they didn't
try to put him into weightlifting and put a ton
of weight on more early. Just let him develop it

(01:15:35):
slowly but surely. But yeah, I feel like he's gonna
be an all start next year. Definitely were Ricky of
the Year. That's my opinion.

Speaker 1 (01:15:40):
Oh all right, big bucket there. Okay, So second one,
Lebron tweeted this week that the media's gotta give Brownie
a break. So Bucketter Brick a team, and I think
Bronnie's gonna stay one more year. So when Bronni becomes
eligible for the draft, a team will draft Brownie in
chances to get bron.

Speaker 2 (01:15:55):
I'll say fifty to fifty, you know what I mean,
because the team might want to do that.

Speaker 3 (01:15:59):
But at the same time, like Lebron said, I respect
what he said because it's just tough because he has
Lebron James j you know.

Speaker 2 (01:16:04):
I mean, he got the same name as his dad.

Speaker 3 (01:16:06):
So that's a tough thing that everybody's going to have
that radar on spotlight on her. But I feel at
the same time, Bronni's a great kid, is doing the
way he wanted to do it, like he's not falling
into the media conditions. He's definitely not worried about money,
anything like that. He's just worried about and joining his
college experiments, trying to get better every day and development game.
And you know with this social media where a lot
of kids fall into that trap, I think Lebron and

(01:16:27):
his wife does a great job of that, and they
team they have around him do a great job of
just keep it away fromhim. But he's always been a
humble kid to me, Like I've been to a couple
of games when he was in high school, when I
played with the Clippers last year, and he just carries
itself like he's.

Speaker 2 (01:16:40):
An adult already, you know what I mean.

Speaker 3 (01:16:42):
And you wouldn't think nothing otherwise the way his mom
carried herself in the way Lebron carries herself, you know,
I mean, being in the lead for twenty one years
and you never hear anything about him, you know, I mean,
he's always keeping his head on straight. So I think
it's just a tough spot for him because he had
the same name as his dad. But he's handling the
best way he can, just standing out the way and
enjoying like what he can and later do what to do.

Speaker 2 (01:17:01):
He can't get trouble with people, said. The narratives say.

Speaker 1 (01:17:04):
Okay, final one and this is perfect for this episode.
We'll end here. Kentucky freshman Rob Dillingham has been very
impressive this season. So bucket or big bucket or brick,
He's gonna be a lottery pick this upcoming summer.

Speaker 3 (01:17:17):
Bucket for sure. He's fearless man. I've known the kid
since he was in seven, seventh to eighth grade. He
played in my John Waller Holliday Invitation, the tournament he's
playing with Combine. Jeff McInnis was coaching the team, and
I was like, Damn, what the hell these young kid
killing like that? Like he was just small doing the
things he's doing now. And I just love that he
got into this great situation with coach Kyle where a
lot of people thought like he wasn't gonna change his game.

(01:17:38):
Could he dribbled too much and too many counters and this,
But you know, cal, like I say, he found.

Speaker 2 (01:17:42):
Ways to get guys to develop, get better.

Speaker 3 (01:17:44):
He's fearly as you see him last night, has zero
point in the first half, came out, made some big
shots for us, made big plays.

Speaker 2 (01:17:51):
So I love the team they have. I love Rob.

Speaker 3 (01:17:53):
I think they got a lot of guy that can
go early on. But yeah, Rob Dillingham definitely is a
lottery pick. Put it on the bucket list, top three pick,
don't I don't know, you know what I mean? You
never can know how this league go. It depends on
which team get the picks and ship Ree Shevard just
put up with thirty four last night.

Speaker 2 (01:18:07):
Yeah, put on the show.

Speaker 3 (01:18:08):
So they got so many talents, so many guards, they
got a depth, they got it. I love the team
they have, man, I just wish they if they could
lock in more on defensively.

Speaker 2 (01:18:15):
They got a great chance to win it all.

Speaker 3 (01:18:16):
They have bigs, they can shoot the ball, they got guards,
they got depth, and I love thero Bro. Theer remind
me of OJ Andnoby. And I'm glad Justin Rawars just
finding his rhythm, find his confidence now. So they gonna
get their stride going at the right time of the month.

Speaker 1 (01:18:30):
Are we gonna see you on the court court side
at some of these games.

Speaker 2 (01:18:32):
Yeah for sure that Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:18:34):
I just couldn't travel the last couple of weeks, but
