Speaker 1 (00:02):
What are we even doing? Hi, I'm Kyle McLachlin and
you're joining us on what are we even Doing? Where
we talk with creatives, wonderful creatives in the world of film, art, television,
the Internet, and we talk about what they're up to,
listening about their creativity, trying to figure out what is
(00:24):
going on. And today we have a very special guest.
This is Geraldine, this one nothing film actress, Dalmatian Lover
Internet Star. We're going to talk about Australia too, if
that's okay, because I spent some time there. Oh okay,
I did recently. But I want to start off by
asking you about the moment where you were like, ah,
(00:47):
kind of your aha, this is going to be this
is what I should do, This is what I need
to do. Did you have one of those or was
it a series or tell me a little bit about
that first spark that when I caught the bug.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
The bug, I remember it very clearly.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
I was, you know, in fifth grade, and there was
there was a play it was what was it? I
don't know. I just remember those like penguins in it
and I auditioned to be like the lead girl. I
didn't get it. And I was like totally cool, awesome,
and then they like they're like, okay, you can say
like one joke, you can have like one funny line, okay.
(01:24):
And I just remember very vividly, like being on stage
and it was a joke about how kids watched so
much TV. They're always watching TV, and it crushed and
I yeah, I was just like okay, I'm addicted to
this feeling now. Oopsie.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
Yeah, yeah, I get that vibe. Like I started on
stage as well. So if you have the audience feedback,
that immediate feedback, it is such a powerful kind of
like wow, you start you're writing this this energy, you
know what I mean, and you're like, this is really cool,
this is really fun. I want to do that again.
So I imagine that. But you were was this when
(02:02):
you were you were in school and I was in Australia,
Australia at Newcastle, right, yes, yes.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
Yes, And I think, yeah, you know, also when you're
a kid, like I was like the only person of
color at the school, and like I think when you're
just kind of like what is my place? What is
my thing? And then it just sort of like all
became really clear in that moment and I was like, Oh,
I think this is like my way into communicating with.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
The Yeah, I want to go back to Australia for
just a second, because I was there not too long
ago during COVID Actually, oh and did I did a
series in Brisbane, but I was in New South Wales,
which is where Newcastle is. We quarantined in Sydney there
for a couple of weeks in Sydney, hanging out of
my hotel room.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
Okay, which hotel that's a good question because.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
I can't remember, Okay, but it was it was nice.
I had a window, very like not the case for
everyone who was.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
I had a window when I did hotel quarantine, and
it was a window looking onto a brick wall.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
Nice. Create Why did you quarantine? What happened? Were you?
What was happening?
Speaker 2 (03:04):
Well? I also went back, did you at the end
of twenty twenty? Okay, I gotta gotta go.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
Back, Yeah to see family.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
And then it was like once you're through the quarantine,
it was like perfect heaven.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
Well, this was the thing because I don't know if
Newcastle was the same as Brisbane, but we left Sydney
where it was like lockdown, serious. We got to Brisbane.
Nobody cared. Yeah, we're like, you're fine, don't worry. Go,
you know, go have a drink at a coffee. Nobody there
was masks maybe maybe not whatever I said, I said,
I love this. This is perfect. Anyway, Brisbane was a
lot of fun. So you got a new film this
(03:36):
oh oh hi, right, oh hi. And there's some terminology
in there that I need a little help with. Okay,
there's this soft boy, right, and then there's the f
boy fuck boy, right, Like I said, it's okay, it's fine,
you're crazy, that's right. I know, that's all right, we're streaming.
It's fine. So can you explain a little bit about
the the definitions of those two just so I can
(03:57):
figure out kind of where I fit in, where you
fit in? Yeah, I have a feeling I know where
I fit I.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
Think so too, okay, but absolutely so. I mean the
fuck boy we all know, pretty self explained to her. Yeah,
he's kind of he's a classic. He's been around for centuries.
Speaker 1 (04:13):
And then I think, is that someone that you want
to be with or someone that you I mean for
a period of time?
Speaker 2 (04:17):
No, okay, I mean it's it's like a ride of passage.
It's it's an experience. It's something that you need to
be able to understand and locate in the wild for
your safety.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
So you recognize the spots or the stripes or the
particular hair.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
Pattern that's right, exactly right.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
Is it a warning? Is it like stay away or
approach with caution?
Speaker 2 (04:40):
Approach with Yeah? Is this the experience that you're seeking. No,
you're just like adjust your expectations.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
Okay, okay, yes, so he was so when you go
into the forest, yeah, you have to check the map
before you watch out for these venomous snakes. Yeah. Well,
Australia just pretty much everything is.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
An animal exactly. It's true in Australia, you're looking out
for snakes, spiders, and fuck boys.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
Right. I was gonna say that's so that's a common concern.
Speaker 2 (05:10):
Yeah, No, it's they're rampage right, Okay, very good.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
And then the other one, Softboy, I'm sort of imagining
actually describe for me because maybe there's more to it
than I think.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
Yeah. Right, So the Softboy is kind of a more
it's a it's a modern kind of it's a branch
off of that tree where it's like, you know, you
can learn the speak. You can learn therapy talk. You
can like wear an earring, you can like, you know,
be like I'm sensitive, I'm different. You can listen to
the right music, you're kind of it's it's wolf in
(05:44):
sheep's clothing basically.
Speaker 1 (05:45):
Okay and okay, so it's still you still have to have.
Speaker 2 (05:48):
A watchful that's right, And that's even more insidious because
you're kind of you know, we've been trained to you know,
you search for certain things when you're in the forest.
But now it's like, well, is it is it? Yeah?
Friendly animal? Like can I approach It's it's hard to say,
and it's kind of you know, and then you're kind
of six months in and you're like.
Speaker 1 (06:10):
Whoa, yeah, suddenly that yeah, they reveal the big reveal, the.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
Reveal of their true self, and it's kind of like, oh,
I wish you were just up front, Like I wish
I had just known from the stop that you were
a venms snake.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
That's so interesting. Very sensitive people's you know, feelings and
the take for the most part, you know what I mean, Like, yeah,
I'm trying to like, hey, I'm trying to vibe with you. Yeah,
I think as an actor, I think it's just something
that you do. I often talk about how maybe you're
the same when you come to a set, right and
you're gonna like you're doing a scene, maybe you're working
with Will or you're working with Will Ferrell. For people
(06:44):
who don't love that, yeah, yeah, because you're working with
Julia Luis Dreyfus as well to two people that I
admire tremendously, very top of the game. So you come
in and you're like, how do you prepare? What do
you do you consciously think of, like are you nervous
going in? Are you like you know what, I'm just
going to go in? What's the feeling and what do
you get back from them?
Speaker 2 (07:03):
The feeling is is fear. Yes, it's full. I mean
I'm nervous talking to you. It really is crazy kind
of being in a room with your heroes. Yeah, but
I learned it's true. But I learned early on a trick,
which is that you imagine telling the person you're like
(07:27):
a little secret, right, and you visualize it. And I
feel like I learned this early on when like I
had to do a chemistry with Daniel Radcliffe for this
show A Miracle Workers that I was on and I
pictured myself telling him that I'm wearing like my most
disgusting pair of underwear right and totally helped, like it
(07:48):
was good, like and him just being like hah right,
like you're crazy girl, let's do the scene. So I
think little tricks like that. But then I also think
I feel really lucky, like everybody's been so great. I
haven't had any like don't meet your heroes, Yeah moments,
that's good. So it's they're always, you know, like very
(08:11):
disarming and like quickly kind of make you feel at
a's and like, yeah, you just go your sweet dad.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
I think that's I know what you mean though, because
I think as an actor, when you step into something
like chemistryes are really tough to because there's an expectation
there like will it work or will it not work.
If you're going in to do a scene with someone,
it's like we've already doing this, so we have to
find common ground. And I think my experience has been
for the most part, like you said that the people
actors in particular, we're immediately trying to find common ground. Yeah,
(08:45):
trying to find a connection. True, That's why it's we're like, hey,
just meeting Hey, hugging, how are you? What's going on?
Merely trying to connect as many lines as we can
between as little threads, you know, because those are what
we're gonna need when we take the next step into
the scene and suddenly you're like you're breaking down because
of something that's happened, or they're telling you something very personal,
(09:08):
or you're sharing a laugh, whatever it is, and you
have to be comfortable and at ease to be able
to do that. So I think that realax state is
so so important. And I think both of them. I
don't know, Julie. I mean, I know I've met Will,
spend a little bit of time with Will say he's
so kind and so available, you know, and I think
(09:28):
that's that's kind of what you're talking about. I think
is so important. Yeah, to find that common ground.
Speaker 2 (09:34):
Yeah, no, completely, And I feel like, yeah, they get
to it quickly.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
Yeah, I mean because you had some stuff with Will.
I mean, there was a lot of some you knockdown,
drag out stuff there that was really great. And to
be able to do that, because I think it the
same way, like let's say I'm going to go in
and I'm going to work with somebody who you know.
I'm like, oh my god, yeah, you know, who has
that been for you?
Speaker 2 (09:55):
I'm curious.
Speaker 1 (09:56):
I did something with Anthony Hopkins that was and he
was as you would imagine, as you would hope, huh, kind,
gentle available in the scene, no judgment, connecting, you know,
And I'm like, oh, you know, it's because it's such
a relief because then you can I can't go, I
can just do what I need to do, and then
(10:17):
he'll do what he does, and then suddenly we're, you know,
back and forth, we're ping ponging back and forth, you know.
But he was someone that I was really nervous to meet.
That's cool, it was good. We spent a couple of
days in a little church in outside Prague, in Koot
and the Horda doing this scene. At night. The two
of us were sitting in this giant sanctuary, was completely
(10:38):
black outside, and we had like a little heater and
two chairs and we basically just did impersonations back and forth.
He did a wonderful David Lynch because of course he
was in the Elephant Man, so he would do David.
I would do David. Then he did Clark Gable, his
Clark Gable was truly amazing. So we were we just
doing these crazy things back and forth just to pass
the time, you know, And I was like, that's a
memory I'll never I'll never forget.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (11:01):
Yeah it was really fun.
Speaker 2 (11:02):
That's bizarre. Yeah, like a dream.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
So I would be continuing to work with Julia Louisa
because she's so funny. Yeah, she's so fast, but you're
fast too, I don't know. I think so thank you're
pretty quick.
Speaker 2 (11:14):
She's she's the queen, she's the best. She's amazing, right, yeah, yeah,
she's so smart.
Speaker 1 (11:19):
Ther thing I like about her that I like about
you as a song goes what I like about you
is how do I describe it? Like you you jump?
You jump in. I can tell because I was thinking,
you know, everyone talks to you about that Dalmatian moment
on the carpet. Now, yeah that's a jump moment. But
I said, I was like, okay, that's fine, Like, tell
me what happened. I don't know what happened about it.
I want to know about the person that made the
(11:42):
decision to do that that you saw the he said
this that works, that works, I'm going to do this
in a moment that a lot of people would be like,
oh my god, I'm on the carpet. I can't you know,
I don't want to stress. I don't want to try
something that might not work because it might fall on
my face. But it seems like you're okay trying stuff
(12:02):
even if potentially you fall on your face, because because
you have the confidence to be able to take it
to the next place.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
Yeah, I mean yeah. The Dalmatians moment was so we
were just like at the AMC at the grove and
I was kind of wearing an already insane fit self
styled I went, I went to the store, I got
the thing. I was like, it's insane. I love it.
And then when we got there and then the Dalmatians
(12:30):
were there, and yeah, I was with my manager at Priya,
who's incredible, and we just kind of looked at the door.
You both were like we both were like should we
And I was like yeah. It just truly was like
a Kismet moment. I also love dogs and just it's important,
(12:51):
you know. I was like, they found me. Yeah, it
just felt magical, and and then it just sort of
became like high drag like kind of was like, you know.
Speaker 1 (13:02):
They were behaving very well.
Speaker 2 (13:04):
Right, Yeah, I actually found out that they're Hollywood dogs.
Speaker 1 (13:07):
Hollywood dogs. Well they know, they know they were there
and that was their big moment. And now they have
their I don't know if they have their own show
now it's been off. They do, yeah, yes, so maybe
they'll have you, have you back. I'd be really you
could be on the.
Speaker 2 (13:20):
I would love that. I'd be honored.
Speaker 1 (13:32):
Well, you've met not only a chiropractor, but you've met
the Wrizzler.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
Yes, you got to get him on? Yeah.
Speaker 1 (13:38):
Yeah, he's an interesting he's an interesting fellow. What's what's
the story with that? What's this that I would like
the Wrizzler? I think I know of the Wrizzler because
again my son, right, but I'm curious as to his
whole stick. Did you know him before or did you
just meet him, like at the event.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
They warned me that he would attend because they knew
that I would lose my mind.
Speaker 1 (13:56):
Okay, oh so you're Wristler fan? Yeah, okay, okay, I
feel sort of like inadequate. I think I'm going to
have to do some Rizzler to research.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
Well, I mean, I just I love his vibe and
I just was like, that is so random, like for
this Thunderbolts premiere, but but okay, absolutely, And I made
a point. I was like, I need one on one
restler time because I knew that they were just going
to try and make it a group thing. And I
(14:25):
was like, no, no, no, yeah, you knew what you wanted. Yeah,
And to watch it, to watch it in person was
really something, you know, without the kind of the film
of the screen. But my favorite part was watching Julia
interact with they both. I don't think who they were.
Speaker 1 (14:49):
I don't feel so bad. Who's this kid?
Speaker 2 (14:52):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (14:52):
Pressed up because he wasn't he dressed up like David Harber's.
Speaker 2 (14:55):
Yeah, he was like, I'm the Red Guardian's body double. Yeah,
that was his thing. He just kind of yeah sure.
He just kept saying, that's.
Speaker 1 (15:03):
A smaller version version.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
David Harvard is a big guy.
Speaker 2 (15:08):
Yeah yeah, yeah, so but yeah, he I could just
put him in my little pocket.
Speaker 1 (15:14):
Yeah. Oh cute, it's cute. Is he fast? Is he quick?
Because he' sharp? Is he funny?
Speaker 2 (15:20):
He's he's pretty fast.
Speaker 1 (15:22):
He's got yeah, he's got a brown yeah.
Speaker 2 (15:24):
Yeah, okay, I mean the way that the way that.
Speaker 1 (15:27):
He knows the whole thing. He got a whole like thing.
Speaker 2 (15:29):
Right, Yeah, I mean it's it's seamless, it's really okay, Yeah,
he's locked in.
Speaker 1 (15:34):
Okay, his dance moves are eight number one truly, but
you don't stop. So you have this thing that I
was reading about where you're possibly doing a plane role
that of Merle Oberon, who is fascinating.
Speaker 2 (15:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (15:51):
Do you know I know a little bit about her,
primarily because of Wuthering Heights.
Speaker 2 (15:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (15:56):
She had a very interesting I think she was married
for it.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (16:01):
Yeah, so you know, there's this is a complicated, interesting
person that I don't think many people know, and also
had a tragedy in the early part of her career.
She had a car accident I think and affected her.
So are you developing this? Did this come to you?
How did yes? Yeah, okay, I am.
Speaker 2 (16:18):
I got the rights to Mayuksen's book. Yes, and he
has sort of yeah, been researching mel has just like
really this is like the definitive kind of biography of
her life. And he's been talking to her family and
it's really incredible and her life is just so insane
but triumphant and like she really came from poverty in
(16:43):
India and like created this self and became like Hollywood
starlet and went to the Oscars with clock Able and like, yeah,
just a fascinating person. But then also as we were
kind of talking about had like the successive Weathering heights
she was at the Oscars, but then it was also know,
kind of a letdown from there, and like just so
(17:03):
really lucky to be able to kind of consider telling
her story. Now, I'm so proud of my heritage and
like she couldn't be. It's just like, yeah, a really
crazy story.
Speaker 1 (17:16):
That's a nice Yeah, that's a nice thing. Depending on
you were talking about when you started, when you're growing
up in a town, in a school where you were
you're the only person of color. Yeah, that's got its
own challenges and yeah, how do you fit in? And
how does that feel? And I think in some ways,
I don't know if you did fit in or not
fit in or you struggle with that, but it not
(17:37):
fitting in is it really can be a tremendous source
of pain, of course, and creativity because you have to fight,
you have totally yes, and that demands you to be
you know, overcome stuff. And I don't know if you
were your parents, did they? How they must have been supportive?
But tell me, tell me about that. I love that
(17:58):
your mom's a TikTok fan first of all.
Speaker 2 (17:59):
That.
Speaker 1 (18:00):
Oh yeah, that's very fun.
Speaker 2 (18:02):
Have you seen her TikTok?
Speaker 1 (18:03):
I've seen I've seen her. I saw the video when
she's scrolling and she's talking about how she's.
Speaker 2 (18:09):
A oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I seen her TikTok.
Oh yeah, I got the TikTok followed from you last night.
Pretty exciting.
Speaker 1 (18:15):
Yep, yep, and did some research.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
Oh okay, okay, period. No, your TikTok's unbelievable right here, Okay, you.
Speaker 1 (18:23):
Guys you can blame them. Yeah, and Ben Ben's not here, well.
Speaker 2 (18:26):
Sure, your son he's outside. Is TikTok manager?
Speaker 1 (18:30):
He my son?
Speaker 2 (18:30):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (18:31):
Oh he he No.
Speaker 2 (18:34):
No.
Speaker 1 (18:34):
I check in with him occasionally, though. I just say, oh,
are you are you is cringing? Are you cringey? It's
this cringing right cringe, I'm making your life more difficult.
And he said, no, it's okay, it's all good.
Speaker 2 (18:46):
Huh.
Speaker 1 (18:46):
So I think his his friends kind of accepted the
fact that I that I do that, because he's seventeen.
In that world, you know, right, So it's okay, does
he ever go no, dad, Oh, but he doesn't say
it to me. I'm sure he does. I'm sure he does.
But but he's like whatever. He's pretty easy going, okay,
which is which is cool. That's yeah, that's pretty cool.
Speaker 2 (19:08):
That's rare.
Speaker 1 (19:09):
But but were your your parents were of that work
growing up with supportive of what you were doing, of
your you know, you're like I want to do this.
Speaker 2 (19:20):
Yes, they I'm so lucky. They were very supportive, I
think because both of them I think really wanted to
do it and like my yeah, my dad had to
be a doctor. But or like you know, there's there's
a couple of paths when you're like, yeah, he moved
(19:41):
to Australia when he was quite young, when he was
like six.
Speaker 1 (19:44):
But oh my gosh, so his parents. The expectations from
his parents gram parents, Yes, you're going to do this.
Speaker 2 (19:49):
Yeah you got the classic pub.
Speaker 1 (19:52):
I got it. That was my dad and his father's
relationship as well. Oh really yeah he's going to be
a lawyer. Okay, so but this but with you, he
was like, well he practiced law for a couple of
years and he was like, I'm done with this I
want to be. I want I want to go into business,
to be a stockbroker. And he'd stopped lawyering and okay,
and his dad didn't talk to him for a couple
of years, like a big but I wasn't really aware
(20:14):
of but a big deal in the family, right, But
he went off and did what he ultimately what he
wanted to do. And so when we were coming up
as kids, he was like, they were like supportive as well.
I mean they were, they were cautious. You know, it's
like I think they really were hoping. But but it
was so obvious when I was a kid that that
this is what I was supposed to do, not to me,
to them, especially my moms, like we got an actor
(20:36):
in the family. Yeah, that they were okay, and you
felt the same.
Speaker 2 (20:41):
Yeah, Like my my dad is such a rebel. I
think he you know, loves Steve Jobs and like people
who dropped out of university and did their own things.
So he was like, you drop out a school girl,
you go to la really do it your way, yeah, sweetie.
Speaker 1 (20:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (21:00):
So I was like, Okay, it was really really cool,
Like I know how lucky it is to have that,
and it's like one of the best parts of this.
Like they're so excited about everything, so getting to like
share that with them is such a treat because yeah,
now my dad was a doctor his whole life, but
(21:20):
now he's like semi retired and he's screenwriting. He's like,
good for him. Yeah, he's written a script. So I'm
he's like finally got the time space to really do
what he wants to do, which is really nice.
Speaker 1 (21:34):
Yeah. Yeah, it's contributing to him, you know, expanding him,
you know what I mean. Yeah, you do something that
he'd always loved to do. Yes, I wanted to do
I think.
Speaker 2 (21:43):
Yeah, and he can. It's like giving him tools to
like look back on his life too. And then my
mom is just like such a star. And you know,
my sister and I we make tiktoks for her. She's
gone very viral. Actually, yeah, she has like ten ten
million views on Oh my God.
Speaker 1 (21:59):
Yeah, I'm gonna start following follow me. Yeah, but I'll
follow her and then maybe she'll follow.
Speaker 2 (22:05):
Yeah yeah, yeah, She'll be like who is this?
Speaker 1 (22:07):
Yeah, this guy he's stocking.
Speaker 2 (22:10):
Me, keeps waving at me in the chat. My sister
and I will just like go through her camera role
and be like i's gotta go on TikTok.
Speaker 1 (22:18):
So she has an eye like when she she doesn't.
Speaker 2 (22:21):
Yeah, she like kind of doesn't even know how iconic
she is. So my sister and I have to kind
of come in and we edit and we put the
put the song on and the and then it's like
she's your song.
Speaker 1 (22:33):
Game, by the way, is genius. It's very strong. Wow,
it really covers a lot of different genres and territory. Yeah,
so that's one.
Speaker 2 (22:41):
Thing I do know interesting, Oh, thank you. That means
a lot.
Speaker 1 (22:43):
I think your mom is one of those people that
is inadvertently funny. Yes, she's like she doesn't really realize
she's just funny because timing in a sense of I
don't know, she's right.
Speaker 2 (22:55):
There's no one else like her like she just it's
just who she is.
Speaker 1 (22:59):
Yeah, she's just like.
Speaker 2 (23:01):
An alien in the best way.
Speaker 1 (23:03):
Yes, And well you're but I think that you. I
don't know your parents, but you seem like a great
combination of your dad's sort of utsbah and out there
and just your mom's in a sense of comedy, it's
in there that you follow. So you have a really
nice that's a nice.
Speaker 2 (23:20):
Mix I think of the two little hybrid.
Speaker 1 (23:22):
You're a hybrid of my parents. Imagine that as it
should be in an ideal world. Well, that's cool. I'm
really excited about the merle Oberon. Learn more about her,
portray her because that's a complex first, that's a that's
a that's a good story and a period of time,
and people don't really know her. She's kind of you know,
like you know of her. And the name Come on,
(23:46):
ob I mean, that's that's ridiculous, I know it real
Do you think.
Speaker 2 (23:54):
Her name was Queenie Thompson.
Speaker 1 (23:56):
That's right, yeah, Queenie Thompson.
Speaker 2 (23:59):
Yeah. And get this her she was buried like ten
minutes from my house in Glendale, So I went and
had to.
Speaker 1 (24:07):
Look, no kidding, hey girl, did you bring a flower? Yes?
But that I will got her blessing.
Speaker 2 (24:17):
I I yeah, kind of you know, or I just
was like I was, Yeah, it was crazy seeing it
in real life like that, and just being like, God,
isn't time so weird? Like I'm in I'm in this time.
She was in that time? You know what I mean?
Speaker 1 (24:35):
I do know what you mean. I sometimes have this
weird this theory. Well anyway, well it's that. Then it
used to be like in small towns, you have the
church right in the middle of the town or close by,
and that would be the cemetery be right there. So
if you're living in a small town, you sort of
interact in some ways with the cemetery. There's a constant
(24:57):
reminder that this journey has an end right in this life, right,
And I feel like we've sort of moved all of
our reminders outside and away, so we don't have that
reminder anymore.
Speaker 2 (25:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (25:12):
Oh wait, wait, I gotta I gotta get busy, you
know what I mean, right, because this, this place, this
does stop, you know, And so whenever I visit, like
I recently entered my dad with his wife. Finally he
was floating around in a box for a while, I mean,
(25:33):
my brother's but he's now laid to rest, and it's like,
you know, you're like you're in a place where it's
peaceful and it's lovely and it's wonderful, but it's like
this is ultimately where we're all going to end up,
you know. Yeah, And just to keep that in mind,
I think, because I think we sort of we lose that,
not not the macabre sense of it, but just like, yes,
(25:54):
let's let's live a reminder to live while we're here.
Speaker 2 (25:58):
Yes, a lot of spiritual teachers and stuff say like
that is the first thing that you should think about
in the morning. It's like you will die and then
that kind of But to me, that's sort of the
lightens the load of the rest of the day, where
you're like.
Speaker 1 (26:14):
Okay, if that's the worst that can happen, what the hell.
Speaker 2 (26:18):
The day?
Speaker 1 (26:19):
I gotta go talk to Kyle. Know how bad can
it be?
Speaker 2 (26:22):
I can die happy, no problem. I love that. I
think that's okay. No, I think that that's so, that's
so true.
Speaker 1 (26:30):
Okay, So we did. We talked about life and death,
didn't we We did. These are the serious things that
we need to discuss. But I have a game that
i'd also like in place not life and death close
and we're going to get back to that. That's that's
my That's that's our next statement. That's our next statement.
I can describe what it is, but I'm looking on
my I'm looking at my cards, these huge cards. But
we're gonna get Oh here it is, I know, right,
(26:52):
are enormous. That's my eyesight. That's the problem. There's only
six words on each card, so I can really just
flying through that. But we're gonna talk about but we'll
come back with us because we're gonna have this fun
game about horses. Because I know you're a horse person.
You really love horses. I have questions about horses. Okay,
(27:12):
ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, you heard it here,
come back. We're gonna talk about horses. Segment that we
created just for you. It's is called horse Girling Around
because I know that you crazy about horses and you
(27:34):
are a big movie lover, and so I decided to
combine these two things together. We're gonna do a quiz. Okay,
now we're ready.
Speaker 2 (27:43):
Giddy up.
Speaker 1 (27:47):
That was a terrible winny. Can you do that? Can you? Oh?
That's that's actually very real? This can you do that?
Speaker 2 (28:00):
Whoa?
Speaker 1 (28:01):
I know, I'm serious.
Speaker 2 (28:02):
You go do the slow motion?
Speaker 1 (28:05):
That would be so ugly and terrible, and we're not
gonna do that. Okay, here's what we're gonna ask you
questions about from movies. Quotes from horse movies, movies that
involved horses, not just horse movies movies. These are special quotes. Okay,
you got three, you got you have choices for each
one that you get. Right, you have a bowl of
sugar cubes there, not even sugar cubes really, but sugar pieces.
(28:27):
And we're gonna try and do a thing where you
toss one and I'll catch.
Speaker 2 (28:30):
It in your mouth.
Speaker 1 (28:31):
Yeah. Yeah, that's what we're gonna try and do. So
and and to our listeners out there, because it is
a podcast. So I've got I've got sort of a
Dwight Yoakum style hat on, and you're wearing a very
fetching T shirt.
Speaker 2 (28:44):
I'm wearing a kind of demure shirt. Yes, and it
states just a girl who loves horses and Kyle was
so sweet to make this for me personally.
Speaker 1 (28:54):
Yeah, that's that's that's for you to keep enjoy. But
before we start this, I have one quick question about this.
What's it called. It's called horse hobby? No oh, the
hobby horse hobby horses? Yeah, have you done that? Is
this something that you know?
Speaker 2 (29:09):
I haven't but I want to but you haven't.
Speaker 1 (29:11):
Is appealing?
Speaker 2 (29:12):
It's appealing. I would love to go to one of
the competitions. Yeah, because it's incredible what they do.
Speaker 1 (29:18):
Pop up on my Instagram, I say, I mean, you
got to be a pretty good shape because you jump right,
they jump so high. Yeah, and you're carrying around the
stick horse.
Speaker 2 (29:27):
Yeah, we should go.
Speaker 1 (29:28):
I'm in, Okay, I'm in. Let's go. We should compete.
Speaker 2 (29:31):
We should compete.
Speaker 1 (29:32):
Do they have teams or like? Yeah, you can compete
as a team.
Speaker 2 (29:36):
I don't know. Actually we're going to do it, but
we we should. We'll make it happen.
Speaker 1 (29:39):
We are going to make it happen. Okay, So here
we go. Are you ready to leap in? Speaking of leaping, okay,
let's let's jump in. This is good. Okay, these are
not easy.
Speaker 2 (29:48):
And then okay, you know so if I get this right,
I throw this in your mouth.
Speaker 1 (29:51):
Yeah? Does that make sense? Or should you throw it?
If you get it wrong, you throw it at me?
Speaker 2 (29:55):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (29:55):
As did you prefer to do as a punishment?
Speaker 2 (29:59):
Yeah? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay, if I'm mad at the question, I'll.
Speaker 1 (30:03):
Prepare myself if I need goggles or anything. Okay, So
this is a quote from one of the three movies.
This is the quote first. Okay, yeah, okay, I can
do with an accent. Sometimes a horse has got to
do what a horse has got to do that's terrible,
And the accent is has nothing to do with anything,
(30:24):
just me being silly. So here are your three choices.
I'm gonna give the flicker, spirit stallion of the Cimarron.
I'm pronouncing. Is that correct? Look at you knowing knowing
your horse movies or Secretariat?
Speaker 2 (30:42):
Hmmm, flicker because it's obviously that's a person saying that,
not a.
Speaker 1 (30:49):
Horse unless it's animated, which your spirit.
Speaker 2 (30:54):
But there's no way that it's spirit because I've that's
not a spirit.
Speaker 1 (31:00):
Sometimes a horse. Maybe it's a voice. Sometimes a horse
has got to do what a horse has got to do,
but it sounds sometimes the horse has got to do
what the horse has got to do.
Speaker 2 (31:08):
There's so many different rates of this, so it's spirit.
Speaker 1 (31:12):
What's your final answer? Now, I'm now I'm worried. The
answer is you have you have made your answer? Just think, okay,
think about it.
Speaker 2 (31:20):
Sometimes the horse has got to do what a horse
has got to do. Maybe it's Secretariat because that's a
race horse horse and that's makes.
Speaker 1 (31:29):
Sense, or it could be an animated.
Speaker 2 (31:34):
Okay, So it's spirit. You're right, it's spirit. Yeah, you're
you're safe for now.
Speaker 1 (31:42):
The colonel thinks he has spirit broken. Yeah, yeah, a
spirit voiceover sounds I don't know, whimsical.
Speaker 2 (31:52):
Oh Like it's like him explaining that you can't break
the horses, got to horse has got to do and
then it goes get off of my back, and that's
the best sequence. You did know it? You don't know this.
Speaker 1 (32:04):
I don't know what. I haven't seen it yet. I
have something to look forward to.
Speaker 2 (32:06):
Oh my god, tonight, very good.
Speaker 1 (32:08):
This is good. Right now, right when we finish it,
I'm going to go right down to the theater. Okay,
all right, next one ready, Okay, Well, maybe I should
give you the name of the film first, and then
the quote.
Speaker 2 (32:21):
The multi choice, the multi choice, and then.
Speaker 1 (32:23):
Yeah, multi choice. Okay, these are your choices. Black Beauty,
war Horse, Wow, Flicker. The stories we hear about how
the West was one are all lies. That sounds like
a voiceover for something. And I don't know. I mean,
I'm could be leading completely astray.
Speaker 2 (32:44):
It's got to be war Horse because it's kind of
it's it's giving historical.
Speaker 1 (32:48):
When was Flicker written? It's like back in the day.
Speaker 2 (32:51):
Yeah, oh, you're saying that maybe there's a kind of
historical element of Flicker.
Speaker 1 (32:56):
Correct its flick?
Speaker 2 (32:58):
You did it again? Oh my god, yeah.
Speaker 1 (33:01):
My mother was ready. I was ready to receive it,
break a tooth or something. Oh my god, you are
so good. This is a year two for two. It's incredible. Okay, okay, okay,
here we go.
Speaker 2 (33:12):
I'm being played not at all. I'm now you are
helping me. Thank you.
Speaker 1 (33:16):
Okay, this is tricky. This is going to be tricky.
So here's a multiple choice. Ready, Yeah, racing stripes, sea biscuit,
BoJack Horseman. Ah, here's the quote. Are you ready? Feel
like we're playing a game show? The password is when
your father dies, you ask yourself a lot of questions
(33:37):
like wait did you say he died in a duel?
And who dies in a duel?
Speaker 2 (33:44):
Your father is dying in a duel?
Speaker 1 (33:46):
Like wait, did you say he died in a duel?
Who dies in a duel?
Speaker 2 (33:51):
Okay, so there's a comedic element, I think. So see
the way that you read it.
Speaker 1 (33:55):
Really no, it has my answer, bo.
Speaker 2 (33:58):
Jack Horseman, it's jack Yes.
Speaker 1 (34:04):
So I don't think we've ever had anyone unbelievable.
Speaker 2 (34:09):
We've also never played this before.
Speaker 1 (34:10):
That's great.
Speaker 2 (34:11):
I'm the best to ever do this.
Speaker 1 (34:13):
You were the best ever and ever the other one yes,
but still the best the best, Yes, the best, number one, okay,
last and final question, okay, multiple choice, are again, Secretariat,
Sea Biscuits, The Black Stallion. There are very how many
horse movies are there enough? This is a note to
this the whole, to Los Angeles, the film community. We
(34:33):
need more Hello movies about horses, right please? Okay, here
we go. You know, everybody thinks we found this broken
down horse and fixed him, but we didn't. He fixed us,
every one of us. You know, everybody thinks. No, I'm
(34:53):
not saying that. You know, everybody thinks we found this
broken down horse and fixed him, but we didn't. He
fixed us, every one of us. I could say, trying
to cry, but I don't know if that would work,
Secretary maybe Secretariat Sea Biscuit, the Black Stallion.
Speaker 2 (35:10):
I think that's from the Black Stallion.
Speaker 1 (35:15):
Well okay, no, if you were thinking about.
Speaker 2 (35:20):
It, so I kind of got that wrong.
Speaker 1 (35:25):
Look at you just pulled the sugar cuban. She's taking
a knife out of the Okay, read here we go,
Here we go, and.
Speaker 2 (35:38):
We all want came.
Speaker 1 (35:40):
My body can do? I have to email? Yeah? Okay, amazing.
We are an amazing team.
Speaker 2 (35:48):
It's unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (35:49):
We have to the hobby horse.
Speaker 2 (35:51):
We have to get the hobby hole thing immediately and
show them what we can do.
Speaker 1 (35:56):
Just keep giving a sugar cuban and we're gonna win that. Tucker.
Speaker 2 (35:58):
You have to wrap out with that in your mouth.
Speaker 1 (36:01):
Blame gook because I'm doing my fugar cube. Darrel, Dan,
we're chatting with us. You were amazing. Let me ask you,
what's next? What's happening? You're having a sugar cube. I
know they're not using fortunately, I really love sugar.
Speaker 2 (36:15):
I can't believe you.
Speaker 1 (36:17):
I'm good. I'm good now, I'm ready to go, like
how fast I'm talking? I'm full of sugar. So what's
happening next? Is there? What's what? What should we do? What
should look for you? I mean, I'm gonna keep looking
for you on Instagram? TikTok here, you're you're crazy on Instagram.
I'm crazy social Yeah, any any place that's the Dalmatians,
We'll find you. What's happening? What's happening? And you're developing
merle over on this right? Okay?
Speaker 2 (36:39):

Speaker 1 (36:41):
Yes, excited week, I think Okay, it's been a real pleasure.
Thank you, truly, thank you so much fun and so
as you can surmise, that's all the time we have today. Sadly,
I mean, there's more time in the day, but this
is the only time we have today talking with the
wonderful Geraldine. This was nothing. Yeah, okay, it's very challenging.
