(00:00):
I am here with Madeline Braim. She was one of the best speakers last
night. And I'm gonna be perfectlyhonest. I told my listeners today I
wasn't sure about everyday Americans given speechesbecause a lot of people can't get up
in front of a lot of peopleand speak. You got up and not
only did you do an amazing job, you told a heartbreaking story of the
death of your son. How doyou find that well of strength to do

(00:24):
that? Well, first of all, thank you so much for having me.
And it has nothing to do withmy physical strength. Nothing that is
completely supernatural. You know. Igive all you know praises to God and
his tremendous grace and mercy. Youknow that's not something natural that any you

(00:45):
know, mother or father has shouldhave to deal with. Absolutely. I
want to ask you an odd question, and that is you said last night
you were a Democrat for many, many years. How does your family,
who I would imagine also democrats, feel about you coming to the RNC and
giving that speech last night. Well, not all of my family are Democrats.

(01:07):
That's my sister Wendy standing there. She's a Republican, all right.
I have a brother who's a Republican. My mother was a Republican. I'm
born with strong conservative values. However, there was always a requirement in our
house growing up. You bring momto high school diploma, and you vote
when you turn eighteen. However, she never told us what party to vote

(01:33):
for. I voted Democrat for fortyfive years because that's what we were doing.
If you're black, you vote Democrat. But we were never told to
do that, and there was noother reason. Now, when your son
was murdered and then allowed his murderersallowed to essentially walk free and not pay
a penalty for this, was thata moment where you said I have to

(01:53):
find a new political home or didthat happen after Well, that happened before,
you know, Alvin Bragg dropped thosecharges. It happened when I found
myself up against an entire you know, Manhattan criminal court system trying to fight
and get justice from my son,and also all of the nonprofits in the

(02:14):
different agencies and organizations in New Yorkwho was supposed to assist with this type
of stuff, you know, Andbecause my son was stabbed to death and
not shot to death, all right, those people ostracized me and They shunned
me because my story did not fittheir narrative. My story didn't fit the
narrative. Because all the money isbeing pumped into gun violence prevention, there's

(02:38):
nothing for stabbing. Can I askthis is another weird question, but did
your son pass before the Black LivesMatter movement? And if it was,
how did that feel to know whatyou just said? Your son didn't die
the right way. No, hewas killed in twenty eighteen, so that
that was before Black Lives Matter.Actually, I was told by the DisCrit

(03:00):
Hey, dad, unfortunately your sonwas killed at the wrong time. How
do you tell a mother that thatmade me sick to my stomach? I
am so sorry that happened to you. I just want to thank you.
Your story was honestly the one ofthe two most powerful stories, both of
moms talking about their losses, andI appreciate you coming and talking to the
Republican National Committee and bringing your storyand keeping your son alive.
