(00:00):
Dave Williams has crapped all over thebylaws over and over and over again,
and now that someone is actually payingattention to the bylaws, he is not
happy. We're welcoming Todd Watkins fromthe El Paso Republican Party to the show.
Todd welcome. First of all,Hey, Hi, Andy, thanks
for having me so in the interestof full disclosure, I am ready for

(00:22):
the post David Williams era in theRepublican Party. But I wanted to bring
you on today, Todd, totalk about what's going on right now.
You have followed the bylaws and calleda meeting for this Saturday, specifically to
talk about removing David Williams. Isthat correct? That is correct? So
what is happening right now? There'sbeen a lawsuit filed, which is of

(00:44):
course more money being squandered by DaveWilliams. Tell me what's going on with
that process. So I'll speak tothe lawsuit. I'm using air quotes first.
Yeah. The only reason I knowabout that lawsuit is because people like
you guys in the media are talkingabout it. I don't I I don't
have any other knowledge of that outsideof the media contacting me asking me for

(01:07):
comments about it. So you haven'tbeen served or anything. They're just there.
So who So there's no defendant inthis lawsuit, So I mean,
who's the defendant if he's suing?What? What? That's a that's I
guess that's a good question. Ihaven't been served. I've told that I
am named in a lawsuit along withNancy from Jefferson County. Neither of us

(01:34):
has been served. I talked toher earlier today. Unless she's been served
since I spoke to her, butnope. Do you think this, I
mean, do we actually know there'sa lawsuit? I mean, that's that's
the big question. This just couldjust be another lie. Well, the
media picked it up. There thereare lots of people in the media talking
about it, so I'm guessing thatthey saw something. I I Well,

(02:00):
this is one of those things whereit's a rumor mill situation. Maybe they're
taking the word of someone who saysthere's one because it and maybe you know
this and can correct me if I'mwrong. But it's been my understanding that
the courts have repeatedly said that interparty squabbles are not the the they're not
the the The court doesn't oversee that. So if that's the case, this

(02:21):
is just more wasted money. SoI tend to take that understanding as well.
I had a front row seat tothe most recent case where you know,
they Al Paso County Chairwoman Tonkins spentover forty thousand dollars to prove that
in January February of twenty twenty three. That's crazy. Well, let's let's

(02:46):
talk about what you are doing. You are using the bylaws correctly, Let's
start with that. Tell me whatstarted this whole process. Kind of unroll
the yarn for me, if youcould, Todd, So, I believed
that from the very beginning, DaveWilliams announcing and running for US Congress would

(03:08):
prove to be a very clear conflictof interest where he is the chairman of
the Republican Party and has the helmor he's he has the con of all
of the assets and machinery and resourcesof the Republican Party simultaneously seeking office,

(03:32):
which he's this is not the firsttime he ran for that office. He
obviously wants to win that seat andhas for some time, and it would
be impossible for him to not youknow, cross contaminate those worlds where he's
the chairman of the Republican Party, looking out for the best interests of the
party writ large, and simultaneously seekinghis own office against other Republican candidates in

(03:59):
a contested prime Mary, And youknow I was proof right about that.
I would like to think with themailers that were sent out, paid for
by the Republican Party endorsing his closestconfederates in their contested primary races. And
you know the party did exert expendresources and finances to promote certain candidates over

(04:24):
others and attack other candidates as well. I don't think that's the role of
the party. We could argue upand down, and I'm sure others will
that he didn't do anything wrong. The bylaws didn't say anything against that.
It's not against the law. It'sBC can handle that part. BBC can

(04:45):
handle that part. People across thiscountry get fired every day. And didn't
break any any federal statutes. Itis unethical. This is about conduct,
this is about character, and it'sabout performance. And I think the electorate
spoke resoundingly as to what they thinkof the strategy, the Republican strategy going

(05:09):
into this election. Dave and thirteenother endorsed candidates in contested races lost and
most of them to the tune ofsixty five to thirty five. It's my
understanding that he I don't know ifhe demanded, but when Priscilla Ron announced
she was going to run for DouglasCounty Commission, she was asked by someone

(05:30):
to leave her vice chair role. Was she not? That is my understanding
also that they had a talk andthat it would be a conflict of interest
for her to sit as the vicechair of the state party while running for
a county commission. I mean,I wouldn't put my hand on a bible
in a you know, on astand on that. But I'm fairly certain

(05:54):
that is the conversation that was relayedto me. That is why she stepped
down, because I thought it extremelyyou know, simultaneously ironic and very hypocritical
for him to have not followed hisown tutelage. So you went to the
bylaws and said, we demand ifwe have enough enough signatures on a petition,

(06:17):
we have to have a meeting aboutand you met that standard. So
yeah, yeah, yeah, ofcourse they're saying it's a lie. I
wasn't able to prove it. Youknow what they're there. We all know
who these people are. They're partof the Central Committee. If you doubt
it, so seriously call them anask. They said, the onus is
on me. I didn't follow procedures, which, if there are procedures,

(06:42):
at best they're ex post facto proceduresthat they concocted in order to say that
we weren't within policy. There's nopolicy on this. The bylaws. It's
an article seven of the of theColorado Republican Committee Bylaws. Special meeting of
the Central commit the request, youknow, in writing that a meeting be

(07:03):
called. The Chair has ten daysto call that meeting ten days from the
receipt of the petition, and ifthe Chair does not call the meeting within
ten days, any member of theCentral Committee can call that meeting, and
the meeting must be held within thirtydays of the call. Then if you
bounce over to Article five is thebylaw that describes the removal of elected officers,

(07:31):
and it's any elected officer of theCRC can be removed by the CRC
for whatever reason they feel necessary, you know, upon at a meeting called
for that purpose. So you tetherthese two together. We requested that a
meeting be called, you know, within the provisions of Article seven, for

(07:53):
the purpose of holding a vote toremove the chairman they called. I've delivered
that petition to them via email tothe three elected officers and all the executive
committee on I believe it was Junetwenty sixth. They the vice chairwoman called
a meeting for August thirty first toconsider petitions and controversies. And I forget

(08:20):
what other ye in there, butit will let's gloss over that nonsense because
I've talked about that on the showbefore. And it's also stupid that I
don't want to waste time because I'veonly got another minute or do with you
do you have Do you think doyou have enough people that are coming to
Saturday's meeting that are going to bewilling to bounce David Williams out, Yes,

(08:41):
you do? You think you havethe numbers? Yeah, we wouldn't
be doing this if we didn't thinkwe had the numbers. Well, Todd,
I'm here for it, okay, because we have to have a functioning
Republican party in Colorado if we aregoing to kind of write the ship and
start winning races again and doing thethings that we need to do to have
a voice in Colorado government, whichwhich the Republican Party does not have now,

(09:03):
So who is going to step upinto that leadership position? Are there
people? And I don't care ifyou name them or not, but are
there people who have expressed interest intaking over the party which is divided and
in shambles right now? Yes?There are, and I want to you
know, stay to you and youraudience. I'm not going to get into

(09:24):
the business of king making or regimechange. This needs to be fixed.
The body is who will remove him, and the body will choose the next
leader. I'm not going to,you know, stump for any particular character
ended it. But there are whohave that's interest in it exal if the

(09:46):
body wants them, the body willhave them, all right, Todd.
I appreciate you making time today,Todd Watkins from the l pasogop. I
will be watching Twitter with baited breathon Saturday to see the outcome of this.
I really appreciate first of all youtake in the initiative to help hopefully
begin the process of rebuilding the RepublicanParty. Again, Todd, thank you
for your time. Thanks Mandy,
