Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Mandy Connell Show is sponsored by Bill and Pollock,
accident and injury lawyers.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Live from Chicago for the Democratic National Convention. It's Mandy Connellyn.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
Presented by Golden Bike GROUPIEM.

Speaker 3 (00:24):
Through very cool.

Speaker 4 (00:31):
Welcome. Welcome, Welcome from the United Center in Chicago. Thanks
to my friends at Golden Spike Roofing for sending us
here and immediately right out of the shoot. Today we
have our first big cheese of the day. Former Virginia
Governor DNC big wig Terry mccaulliffe is sitting down with
us right now.

Speaker 5 (00:47):
I may be a big deal, but I don't hit
my own gena like you.

Speaker 4 (00:50):
You know what, maybe my list can help you with that,
because it's it's golden Steel. I will make sure that
that happens. So this is you are very intimately. You know,
you have a lot of knowledge about this from both sides.
You were in charge of planning a DNC at one point.
So today you just get to come and hang out

(01:10):
and be like the bell of the ball without having
to do any of the work.

Speaker 6 (01:12):
That's pretty nice.

Speaker 5 (01:13):
Yeah, I mean I did. I chaired the two thousand campaign.
President Clinton had appointed me to be the Ambassador of
Great Britain right ready to go with my five kids
and dogs and wife, and el Gore called me, said,
the city of LA's renig down their financial commitments.

Speaker 6 (01:27):
So I had to move to La for a year.

Speaker 5 (01:29):
Oh my god, going and ran that convention, and then
I was chair of the National Party and ran the
Boston convention.

Speaker 6 (01:35):
But yeah, it's nice.

Speaker 5 (01:36):
I get to come around, just talk to all the
great folks like you, and not everybody's banging on. They're
still banging on me for credentials, but it's not as
bad as this. No, you can pass them off to
the names not on this credential.

Speaker 4 (01:47):
So there you go, There you go. So let me
ask you about this convention because before the change in
the candidate, before Kamala Harris was elevated to be the candidate,
I was, I mean, we were sorry, and I thought,
what is the tone difference going to be? Because there
wasn't the level of excitement for Joe Biden. It just
wasn't there. This is like people are jacks boom. So

(02:10):
I mean, did they redo the entire convention to be
more Kamala Harris orienta do you know?

Speaker 6 (02:17):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (02:17):
I mean they I mean Listen, the basic structure is
the same. Obviously, got to change all your signage and
things like that. But the thematics of what was going
to be on the podium, you know, you do that
months and months and months ahead of time because they're
taking months to construct all of this, Yeah, to put
it together.

Speaker 6 (02:31):
But you're right.

Speaker 5 (02:32):
I mean, I've been to a lot of these. This
is my thirteenth convention. Normally at these conventions because we've
had tough primaries the first couple of days, the warring factions,
everybody I want this, I want that, and the platform
I go through all that, we have none of that. Yeah,
I mean, so we're coming in. It's a one hundred
day campaign. Record amount of grassroots have signed up, record

(02:52):
amount of online small donors. I've never seen anything like
this in all my years of politics.

Speaker 4 (02:56):
So we just got a little taste of policy on
Friday night when Vice as An Harris made her announcement
about her economic plans. What are your initial impressions of
what she's rolling out and how she's rolling them out.

Speaker 5 (03:06):
So I know her very well. She's had me over
the Vice President's office as governor. I was very much
po jobs, jobs, job, jobs all I talked about, and
we were very successful creating jobs. I've had many discussions
with the Vice president about the economy, about building small business.
She's going to be great for business. She's going to
be great for the economy. What she constantly talks about
is creating an economy that worked for everyone, that you're

(03:28):
not just going to get by, but you're going to
be better with her as president.

Speaker 6 (03:32):
You know, Trump didn't do any of that.

Speaker 5 (03:33):
I mean, millions of jobs were cost when he was
president of the United States of America. You think on her, Biden,
we've had fifteen million new jobs. So it's an exciting time.
It's a transformational economy. We're out and now post COVID,
and now we're dealing with all the issues of cyber
and AI and so forth. But you know, listen, she's
all about the future. How do we build a strong

(03:54):
future with freedoms for women, reproductive rights, protecting our democracy
against a guy that's in fairness, who's convicted criminal.

Speaker 4 (04:01):
So one of the things they just put out was
the theme for the convention, and I am not going
to be able to remember it verbatim, but it is
essentially for the people, for all of us. God, dang it,
I should have written it down because I just saw it.
I should have written it down. But it is very
much a populist message for the people. Is there anything
that we should be looking for this week?

Speaker 5 (04:23):
So, as you know, it's a very tight electorate, right,
and you know, let's just take the three swing states Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania.
When we win those three, in Nebraska two, we win
two hundred and seventy inside those men. Inside those three states,
there's only about nine hundred thousand voters who are still undecided.

Speaker 4 (04:42):
Well, it's hard to believe that anybody is still undecided
at this point. I always wonder who are these people? Like,
how do they live their lives and not hurt themselves?

Speaker 5 (04:49):
And they're late breakers. Yeah, I'm going to look at
this till probably September October. So my point is we
got to get a message that goes to people, a
lot of suburban housewives out there who are still waiting
to see And you got Trump and all his insanity
and his convictions, and it's just constant extreme agenda twenty
twenty five versus the first woman, first woman of calling

(05:10):
the president of the United States, who talks about protecting democracy,
freedom for reproductive rights, and lifting everybody up economically.

Speaker 6 (05:17):
It's a pretty good message.

Speaker 4 (05:18):
Gubn Terry, Oh, go ahead.

Speaker 5 (05:19):
Hope.

Speaker 6 (05:20):
Happiness the one thing you've seen at this place. Everybody's
fired up. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (05:24):
There is so much excitement, so much joy. And that's sir.
I know her very well. She is a happy warrior.

Speaker 4 (05:30):
Well, Terry mccauluff has been a happy warrior for the
DNC for many, many years. I understand you've got people
down there waiting for you, so I appreciate you making time.

Speaker 5 (05:37):
For me, but I gotta sign at Denver University. We
go off Denver. Let's go.

Speaker 4 (05:41):
Well, let's go, let's go. Pios.

Speaker 6 (05:42):
Yeah, that's it.

Speaker 4 (05:43):
Yeah, there we call them in Denver, the pios. Now
you'll look him, you'll be all the pios.

Speaker 6 (05:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (05:48):
Oh he knows. Terry mccalliugh, thank you for your time. Forday,
all right, we have so much to talk about today
and we are going to talk to as many people
as we can that it will give us a few moments.
It is it where we are just to set the
scene here, we are in the outer rim of the
United Center, directly in front of the Michael Jordan's statue
that is in the United Center, and we are just

(06:10):
by the VIP entrance, so the VIPs walk right past us,
and a rod is going to be grabbing these people
as they walk by and trying to get them to
sit down with us. But I think that was a
very good sort of window into what we're going to
be hearing this week. Trump is a felon. It's going
to be about abortion rights, It's going to be about

(06:32):
the people and the economy for the people. And so
that's a little a little primmer for what's coming up. Now,
let's get to the blog because we've got a lot
of stuff to talk about. That is it DNC. Find
the blog by going to mandy'sblog dot com. Look for
the headline. This is eight nineteen twenty four blog Day
one of the DNC. Click on that and here are

(06:53):
the headlines you will find within.

Speaker 5 (06:54):
I think someone is in office half of ericon all
the ships and climmas and say that's going to press.

Speaker 7 (06:58):
Flint today on the blog.

Speaker 4 (07:01):
Today, we are live from the DNC in Chicago. The
protesters are here. This may be the last time anyone
pays attention to Joe Biden Young voters love Kamala. Price
controls don't work and they never will. Walls loves communism.
Jejin Dave loses in court. I don't normally talk sports,
but did you see bo nix? Is this really our signature?

(07:23):
Dessert ranchers want livestock eating, wolves killed? Colorado is a
quantum computing hotbed. Now environmentliss sat checks notes, Wind turbites
homeless policy in Parkinson's Law, rip Phil Donahue. This stat
will get Democrats elected. Scrolling through videos online will make
you more bored? Is Late Night Talk Dead? Candice Owens

(07:45):
has lost her damn mind? And Amazonian Tribe shows how
to live longer. I'm sure this won't cause any havoc.
Does a pyramid collapse mean the end of the world?
An app for a meal with a new friend sounds delightful.
The giftness assists little fellow with his and advice from
a one hundred and three year old. Those are the
headlines on the blog at mandy'sblog dot com, and you

(08:07):
can check them all out there. Now we're going to
check in. Is Rob ready to go? Let's check in
with Rob Dawson. Now we are in the United Center.
We are in the secure zone. Rob has thrown caution
to the wind and has gone to where the protesters are. So, Rob,
what do you have?

Speaker 7 (08:23):
Hey, So, Mandy, A few thousand are here right now.

Speaker 8 (08:26):
I don't think this is anywhere near the twenty five
thousand that would be the stuff the terms of the
number of protesters, but right now they are are all
a few thousands. This is similar to the area campus
where we have Palestinian flags. We have people listening to
some speeches. And what's interesting, Mandy, is there are people

(08:48):
that are really into cause, and then there are people
here that are struggling a little bit.

Speaker 7 (08:53):
To understand why they're here.

Speaker 8 (08:55):
But some of them are here with their friends, and
you know, others are just simple have it.

Speaker 6 (09:00):
All the time.

Speaker 4 (09:02):
So let me ask you this. You said earlier that
there were people with masks on. Is that accurate? How
many people are covering their faces? How many are you know,
showing proudly who they are?

Speaker 8 (09:14):
I would say fifty to sixty percent, maybe masks. Some
people don't have masks. I feel like the people that
have masks are the ones that have done this before,
have been to other places. But you know, luckily I
was listening back to an interview with two women who
had a mask, John and I. Luckily I was able
to hear what they were saying. But yes, I'd say
about half the people are wearing masks.

Speaker 4 (09:36):
So did you rob? Just as a point of order,
we learned during the protests in twenty twenty that you
cannot get COVID at a protest, So maybe just point
that out to them that they don't have to worry
about getting COVID because we already learned that they cannot
get COVID at a protest from the twenty twenty protest.
Do you think that would help?

Speaker 8 (09:53):
All right? I think this is where identification. Although some
have been I have to say, as opposed to the
area campus earlier the sprank, some of them very open.
I say, three of the four people I talked to
gave me their name. Really, we're from two right now?
So one person is from Fordham, or at least he
had a Fordy University Charity's from Princeton. I believe the

(10:16):
two women I talked to are from Columbus, Ohio. I
don't know where another man was. I should point out
to you, Mandy, this is important here. No, none of
the major party candidates are acceptable to these people, and
they have nicknames for the candidates involved here or and
as well current President Joe Biden. They're calling him genocide Joe.

(10:38):
I think you're familiar with that. Yeah, Kamala Harrison's whole
blood is traumalah and uh and uh statist Trump.

Speaker 4 (10:48):
Great good. So they're excited to vote, is what I'm hearing.

Speaker 8 (10:53):
Well, the two women that I talked about, I said, well,
you know, it's going to be hard to at this
point in the game organize the third party. One of
the women brought up Brands as an example France was
able to mobilize a canidate. I guess she said what
they were telling me. I don't. I don't know, but
she said, within six weeks.

Speaker 7 (11:10):
They had a candidate and we could do the same thing.

Speaker 8 (11:12):
We're just told that we can't. And I saw a
sign in support of Jill Stein. I don't know if
Jill is.

Speaker 4 (11:22):
She even on the ballot this time.

Speaker 8 (11:24):
I don't know, but I don't know. Even I didn't
wasn't even familiar with her position on this issue. But
they had a half tag that says end the occupation
or she or she ends the occupation or something, so.

Speaker 4 (11:38):
Oh, good grief. Now, last night we also saw an
RFK bus roll through. Any sign of the RFK bus
at the protest.

Speaker 9 (11:48):
No sign of the RFK bus anywhere, and I would
be able to see it again.

Speaker 8 (11:54):
I was surprised. I thought there might be more people.
They were feared that there would be more. There also
might be more to the park, but I think I
could see the entire park.

Speaker 7 (12:03):
This is not as big of a park as.

Speaker 8 (12:04):
They thought it was, and I think I see maybe three,
maybe four thousand people here, so I wouldn't be able
to see the bus, but I don't see anything.

Speaker 4 (12:13):
So Rob, how far are you right now where the
protesters are from the United Center? What kind of distance
are you talking.

Speaker 8 (12:19):
About that about? To look that up? I believe I'm
a mile look a mile from you, And I think
this is what we were concerned about. They are closer
than the protesters at the Republican National Convention, which we
didn't even know where they were. Yeah, a little bit,
but we didn't see them.

Speaker 4 (12:35):
Have you gone through security to come in here yet
at United Center? I have not yet, So it's going
to be It would take a massive bum rush of
overwhelming proportions in order for them to get through the
security to actually get to the United Center. It's pretty secure,
and they don't have it as I don't think they

(12:56):
have as many points of exit and entrance as they
did the R and Z, so it's fairly orderly, and
it's really funneled into basically two or three different entrance points. So,
you know, people keep saying like, be safe, be safe.

Speaker 10 (13:09):
I don't.

Speaker 4 (13:10):
I feel perfectly safe here. I would be shocked if
they got within the security zone. I think that would
be absolutely crazy. So it's nice to know they're about
a mile away.

Speaker 8 (13:20):
Yeah, I do feel safe, at least of where I'm
standing here too, I would say, because I've been to
a few of these anima, each of us a little
different flavor. Again, as the area protests.

Speaker 7 (13:33):
Went on, the protesters became very.

Speaker 8 (13:37):
Much adversarial towards the media. A lot of them after
a few days didn't want to talk to us. In
the beginning, they did and then they were told.

Speaker 7 (13:44):
Not to by their their leaders.

Speaker 8 (13:47):
This time around, people seem to be more willing to talk.
You know, of course there's gonna be some level of
anger coming from these speeches, but right now I've really
seen very little police presidents at least.

Speaker 6 (14:00):
On the ground.

Speaker 8 (14:00):
I know they're a random perimeter of where we are,
but there's nothing. I've been here about an hour and
a half. There's been nothing in terms of like pushing
and shoving with.

Speaker 4 (14:08):
Off I'm wondering what happens at night though, you know
what I mean, because the bad actors really seem to
show up after dark.

Speaker 8 (14:17):
And that is a concern.

Speaker 11 (14:18):
You know.

Speaker 8 (14:20):
What's interesting we struggle with this at the area. One
not as many tents here. I see two.

Speaker 4 (14:26):
Yeah, now one.

Speaker 7 (14:27):
Is actually with an American flag. Tent here actually is,
which is interesting.

Speaker 8 (14:34):
But I only see two tents and these are big counties.
They are not sleeping tents.

Speaker 4 (14:42):
Okay, so there are they like the kind that you
have to rent and ring?

Speaker 7 (14:46):
Yes, yes, okay, this looks like tailgate tailgate situation.

Speaker 8 (14:50):
Okay. I should also point out they have rations. They
do have a lot of boxes about of water in
a location there, so they came prepared with signs and water.

Speaker 4 (15:00):
All right, Have you had the opportunity or could you
talk to any of the are there police that I'm assuming?
I mean, what's the security force like around that area?

Speaker 8 (15:09):
Well, so I'm looking around and they're on the sidewalk
looking at it. They're not in the grounds really, I
think they're just monitoring from the center, and I think
from the air too. Either that was the media or
a police tele capt up there.

Speaker 6 (15:24):
You're going to laugh.

Speaker 8 (15:26):
As similar as we've seen at these protests, there are
people invests. They're called the safety team, so they are
also here.

Speaker 4 (15:33):
Wait wait what so wait a minute. So there's protesters
that are wearing vests that say safety team.

Speaker 8 (15:40):
Yes, and they're numbered with letters and numbers, and then.

Speaker 4 (15:43):
What are they doing? How are they providing safety?

Speaker 8 (15:47):
These are the people that I believe that if the
police came, they would try to guard the protesters.

Speaker 4 (15:52):
Okay, now do you see anyone with badges to come
to the actual DNC.

Speaker 8 (15:58):
The only people I've seen with badges their media.

Speaker 5 (16:01):
Okay.

Speaker 8 (16:02):
I don't think there's any one any of the protesters
that have a badge that we get them into the area.

Speaker 4 (16:08):
All right, Well, you be safe out there, rob and
if all hell breaks least, you call us first. You
stream it first, and then and then you call us.

Speaker 8 (16:16):
I would love to see you guys today at some point.

Speaker 4 (16:19):
Yeah, you're welcome to come. If you haven't been in here.
Our digs in here are super nice, like super super nice,
So we'll just come in whenever you make it back
over here.

Speaker 8 (16:28):
Okay, great, all right.

Speaker 4 (16:29):
Rob Dawson, thank you for that. That is Rob, and
he is out and about. We're going to have him, Hey,
turn that off. We'll have him throughout the day as
things ramp up. I don't think the protest during the
day are going to be that big a deal, hey,
ron Stone. I think that they are going to And
here's the thing. They're probably thousands more people who are

(16:51):
just here to protest, but you know that there's more
than a handful of people here to break crap and
cause problems. The people that are like we need to
take it back to Te sixty eight. Those people, and
I don't think they're out there yet. I think they're
sleeping it off from last night, and I think they'll
show up later this evening. So it'll be very interesting,
especially because the President of the United States is going

(17:11):
to be here tonight, so you've got to figure that
the safest place in Chicago is going to be the
United Center this evening. So all of you were sending
things via the text line. By the way, I got
the Comma Spirit Health text line fired up, and already
you guys are like, oh gosh, Mandy. If that interview
was any indication, it's going to be a long week.

(17:32):
My intention this week is to set the table for
you to come to the DNC with us, and if
you want to know what they're doing, how they are
planning to win, this is going to be your chance
to go behind the curtain. What I'm not going to
be doing is challenging someone who says, you know, Trump's
a fellon, Well, he is a felon, you guys. He
was well, he was committed. I mean, he was convicted

(17:55):
in New York. So I'm not challenging. You know the truth.
You know exactly what happened, and I'm going to trust
you to be smart about it, and I'm going to
trust you to use your critical thinking skills, and I'm
going to trust you to listen to find out exactly
what the Democrats are offering America. I do think it
was interesting and if you missed our interview right at

(18:16):
the beginning of the show with former DNC chair former
Governor of Virginia Terry mccauliffe, he made sure to mention
the vibe Oh comeless, so happy and joyful, Like they're
leaning into the vibe rather than talking about policy. That's
what I took away from that. Did you get that
as well?

Speaker 10 (18:34):
We ran second he said the word joy ears perfect
because that is starting to be the buzzword.

Speaker 6 (18:39):
We have to take it. I think we got to
keep it tally. That is Oh my gosh, yes, that
is the word.

Speaker 4 (18:43):
I'm going to do it on the back of this thing,
so we'll just add it on here.

Speaker 6 (18:46):
That is the word. And you and I talked about
it last night.

Speaker 10 (18:49):
That is the messaging because right now I think it's
going to be tough for them, and maybe they're even
being guided to steer away from conversations about real policy.
Talk about the joy, the fear, how excited people are.
That is the vibright. That's part of vie. There's another
word that's part of a political convention.

Speaker 4 (19:07):
Right. It's not like to get into any gritty policy details,
but it's it's to like create a wave of momentum.

Speaker 10 (19:13):
But the extensive this is extensive of a focus on it,
I think is more notable than usual because because I
think the joy, the excitement, what the convention brings kind
of happens naturally without having harp on it, the harping
on it, the focus on it, that being their messaging.

Speaker 6 (19:28):
That's where it's a little different for this convention.

Speaker 4 (19:30):
I actually think that if it had been Joe Biden here,
this would not be a joyful convention.

Speaker 10 (19:37):
We wouldn't be talking about well right now, we would well,
I think it would mandated to be having taking a
nap right now.

Speaker 6 (19:42):
I think we're in nap time.

Speaker 4 (19:43):
I don't think free putting cups. You walk at the convention.

Speaker 10 (19:46):
You must do your shows from six am to ten
am and then followed by a mandated nap.

Speaker 6 (19:51):
If you do not be escorted outside of the zone
to take your nap.

Speaker 4 (19:56):
Yeah, take a nap or get out. It is and
it is going to be an interesting week. I'm looking
forward to it. And in the meantime, I just want
to lay the table for you guys and let you
know exactly what to expect, so you're going to hear
things this week that if it was just me interviewing
someone on the show in a normal situation, I would

(20:16):
definitely push back. But I am here just like I
did at the RNC, to just bring you the DNC
and let you make up your own mind. All right.
So we're going to have a quick time out, get
some news, traffic and weather. When we get back, I
want to jump into some of the blog because there's
some good stuff on here. Ooh, this is a good one.
A text message Mandy Joy was the mantra of mal

(20:38):
and the CCP. We know how that turned out. Yes, indeed. Okay,
there's like a bunch of police officers walking in looking
at me like I'm shady. We'll find out what's going
on with this. We'll be right back after this. We
are broadcasting live from the Democratic National Convention. I've got
a couple of text messages from our text line I
want to share because I think one of them may

(20:59):
have for a question that other people might have, and
the other one I just find fascinating. This one said Mandy.
I didn't catch whether the safety team were official employers
or protesters. If they're protesters, they use the safety team
label to try and avoid police arresting them while they
do things like administer milk to the protesters that got

(21:19):
tear gas in your eyes. They are protesters who have
a god complex, who have this law enforcement fantasy of
them being tough, and so they have named themselves the
safety team, but they are definitely not employees of anyone,
and you're probably right, that's probably a strategy so they
don't get arrested when in reality they should be arrested

(21:42):
like everyone else. So a Ron, I'm gonna give some
observations so far, and you can back me up because
I'm doing a mental checklist of RNC versus DANS, not
political policy, because we know where I would come down, right,
that's a given that I'm going to ally my political
positions with the RNC far more than the DNA. But
here are my observations so far. First of all, the

(22:03):
weather so much better here, so much better than it
was in Milwaukee. Second of all, Chicago so much better
than Milwaukee. I'm just gonna say it.

Speaker 6 (22:12):
Absolutely beautiful city.

Speaker 4 (22:14):
Gorgeous city. And I have already noticed the women of
the DNC got the memo and are all wearing flat shoes,
well the sky high heels we saw at the RNC,
and I was like, what are these women doing. They're insane,
very very comfortable sensible shoes at.

Speaker 10 (22:31):
I'll speak for myself as a man, I made the
right decision on footwear because I got massive blisters with
the miles that we put on the RNC with my
fancy very really hard disguised sketchers. These are also sketchers,
but much more easy to walk in. So everyone, I
think has been more sensible, especially for those that cover
the RNC.

Speaker 4 (22:50):
So I'm going to do a full tally by the
end of the week, just the pros and cons of this.
So so far, so good, pretty.

Speaker 6 (22:56):
Much marshall any check marks on the RNC side right
now because better Well.

Speaker 4 (23:02):
I did like the little food truck court thing they
had outside that it was pretty good. I just like that.
But I don't know what the food situation is here yet,
so we haven't explored that. If the AF the rn C,
you were able to put yourself right in front of
the arena, you know, the whole open they have all
the like you can't get to the front of the

(23:24):
even as a delegate. They have all of the production
stuff right in front of the United Center. I don't
know why they didn't put it in back, you know
what I mean. So rn C better, you know, public
facing on the forum, the five Star Forum, that's one
for the r and C. So far, okay, so there
we go. Now I want to get to this other
text message from the Common Spirit health text line, and

(23:44):
you can always text us at five six six nine
to oh. It is the best way and the only
way to talk to me during this Mandy, I am
still undecided. I dislike the candidates, including the Libertarian Party.
I am still weighing a lot of things under sided
do exist. So I'm very glad that you texted because

(24:05):
I made a snarky comment of how I don't understand
how someone could be undecided. But if you're coming from
a position where you really don't like either of these candidates,
any of these candidates, I could see we're having to choose,
Like pick your poison is how it must feel. So
I would like to apologize for undecideds that are in
that camp because I sort of, you know, made a

(24:26):
snarky comment at your expense. But that does make sense
to me, because frankly, I don't like these candidates. I'm
not happy with my choices. But that being said, then
I just have to force myself to pay attention to policy,
like what policies would this person institute? What policies would
that person institute? And frankly, you know, Trump has some

(24:49):
policies that I absolutely hate. These announced tariffs which are
a net negative on us here in the United States
that make everything more expensive and can create a trade
war situation. I hate that. I think it's bad for business,
and I can't believe he's even saying that. But then
we have, Hey, we're going to put price caps on
things from the other side. So philosophically, I have to

(25:09):
look at the policies of both teams and make a decision. Yes,
what are you pointing it?

Speaker 6 (25:14):
Shaking?

Speaker 4 (25:14):
Oh yeah, I bounce my leg. I'm bouncing my leg. Well,
I'm in a barstool. I hate sitting on.

Speaker 6 (25:20):
A barstool, and you're on the stage. Everyone to watch you.

Speaker 4 (25:23):
I know what. Everyone's looking at us like we're important.
So it is kind of like, I mean, yes, yes,
it is cool. Mandy.

Speaker 3 (25:30):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (25:31):
Now, just for the person who who sent a text
about the flat shoes and the women who wear them,
there are extremely attractive women here as well, and they
are wearing flat shoes. I'm just letting you know. So
it's not just you know, women of a certain size,
as this person implied. There are very attractive women and
they're wearing sensible shoes. They're just not willing to put

(25:53):
up with the pain that some of those women at
the R and C were willing to put up with.
I am not going to say that, Mandy. I care
if he makes our country prosperous, not what he does
in his personal life that does not directly negatively impact
me nor hurt someone else. Can I make it. I'm
just gonna make a little comment about that. And it's
not just about Trump, but it's about the notion that
somehow we should be able to separate character or the

(26:16):
character of a person from the policies that they pursue.
And I felt this way about Bill Clinton back in
the day when we found out he was a big
horn dog and he was cheating on his wife and
running around, and everybody said, oh, that's his personal life,
that's his personal life, that's his personal life. My thinking
is this, If a man is willing to look into
his wife's face and lie every day, and if you're

(26:37):
gonna run around and cheat on your wife, you're lying
to your wife every day, then why am I supposed
to believe that he is telling the truth to me
a perfect stranger, that he has no emotional attachment to
and I think that does matter. Now. Unfortunately, I don't
think that any of our candidates are a particularly great
moratal character, including Vice President Harris. Her background is a

(26:59):
little oo, you know, Skavie when it comes to certain things.
I'm uncomfortable with women who got where they are because
of their relationships with men, and that is how she
got her starting politics. So there you go, Mandy. You
need to see the interview Dana Perina had with Jason Crowe.
His answers were unbelievable, to the point even Dana made

(27:19):
a comment, I know I would never vote for him
because of his answers. Now tell me that Dana Prino
is here. That's what I need, because I need to
see my best friend Dana Pirno. She's like, she's like
my pocket sized version of a human being. So there
you go. That is happening, Mandy. Harry Truman once said,
never trust a man who cheats on his wife. I
think cheaters are pigs and losers. But I would still

(27:40):
vote for Trump over Biden any day, except you're not
voting for Trump over Biden. You're voting for Trump over Harris.
If that's who you're voting for now, one of the
things that I want to Oh, you know what, I'll
do this when we get back. I was talking with
a friend of mine who is a Democrat, and she
said something that made me go huh. So I reached
out via text message to other friends that I have
her Democrats and I want to tell you what the faithful,

(28:03):
what the masses are saying, and they're saying it in unison.
I'll explain after this. Ay Rod and I are here
in Chicago, thanks for our friends at Golden Spike Roofing,
and I just cannot thank Spike McCarthy enough for sponsoring
our coverage. He was like, I think this is going
to be a crazy convention. I think he's right, although
it's certainly changed, shifted in tone quite a bit because

(28:27):
of the change in candidate. And I want to talk
about that for just a second. We've started a joyful
tally of today, like, Okay, how many people, how many
surrogates are going to come in here? And what a
surrogate is for those of you who don't know. A
surrogate is someone who is authorized to speak on behalf
of the candidates, So they have official talking points, they
have official things that they've been given, they walk out

(28:49):
do interviews representing the candidate, and I'm guessing that right
at the top is talk about how joyful this is.
While I was talking to a friend of mine who
is not a hardcore progress left winger. She is a
moderate Democrat, has been her whole life, and she said,
you know, it's just so happy to hear it's so
good to hear people talking about happy stuff, and it's

(29:09):
so upbeat and joyful. And I just said, did you
watch the Republican National Convention? And she said no? And
I said, oddly, the Republican National Convention also joyful. But
it got me to thinking. So I started reaching out
to people via text message that I know that are
on the left, and I actually have a lot of
friends who are on the left, and I said, hey, guys,
how would you describe the current tone of the Democratic

(29:32):
Party as they come around Kamala Harris? And they all said, joyful, joyful,
expect that to make a return. What now is making
a return is Rob Dawson. He is, I believe, still
down in the protest zone. Rob, what do you got
for us?

Speaker 3 (29:48):
Hey?

Speaker 8 (29:48):
Mandy? One of the speaks we heard a couple of
minutes ago said that they the these protestors do planned
to march to the United Center. Now I don't know
how close they could possibly get with all the fencing.
They also didn't give it time. I would also cause
in two that sometimes we especially at the area campus,
we heard we're going to march to the jail. Yeah, people,

(30:11):
and then the march fell apart. So we will, of
course remain to be seen. I know the session starts
and I think about three hours or so at United Center.
But that is something at the podium right now that
perhaps at least some of the scratch may be motivated
to march closer to the United Center at the start
of the session.

Speaker 4 (30:31):
So the their brig out sessions going on now, there's
all kinds of training sessions happening right now. The speeches
start tonight at about five point thirty I think five fifteen.
Hang on, I've got an email about that. So you're
talking about they're coming here once the speeches start. Is
that what we're getting.

Speaker 8 (30:48):
Or maybe before?

Speaker 9 (30:50):
Remember, you know, I don't know how President Biden, or
if I was President Kamala Harris is arriving today.

Speaker 8 (30:55):
I don't know if she is not.

Speaker 4 (30:57):
Yes, she is she's already here. Actually she came from yesterday,
so she's already in Chicago, but she'll be tonight appearing
with President Biden before they kind of hand the baton,
and then she's off to Milwaukee for another rally tomorrow
before coming back on Wednesday for Wednesday and Thursday night.

Speaker 8 (31:15):
Okay. So then the question is because I just heard
from our sisters Kake the KFI when I was on
with them that President Biden had just boarded airports one maybe.

Speaker 7 (31:24):
A half hour ago, okay or something.

Speaker 8 (31:26):
So I don't know if there, I don't know how
he's arriving. I don't know, uh, you know, Murtor k
where it's going.

Speaker 4 (31:33):
Yeah, I heard it was going to be a drone.
I heard they were going to fly him in on
a drone and just gently place him on the grounds
of the United Center. That's good, that's good, you know,
if they got to go big here, right.

Speaker 7 (31:43):
But as I mentioned before, even though he is not
at the top of.

Speaker 8 (31:47):
The ticket anymore, he did, these people believe he is
to blame and also that the vice president can't hide either.

Speaker 4 (31:59):
Well, Rob Dawson, you keep that and when we get back,
I want to share with people. What are our Uber
driver Minor. We had an Uber driver Yesterday's a lifelong
resident of Chicago. He's been driving for Uber for nine years,
has twenty five thousand trips rob and he gave us
a little background on how they get VIPs from the
airport to the United Center. So we'll get into that

(32:21):
just a little bit. On the other side of this break,
we are broadcasting live from the United Center at the
Democratic National Convention. We'll be right back.

Speaker 1 (32:31):
The Mandy Connell Show is sponsored by Bell and Pollock,
Accident and injury Lawyers, Live.

Speaker 2 (32:37):
From Chicago for the Democratic National Convention.

Speaker 6 (32:40):
It's Mandy Connell and.

Speaker 4 (32:43):
Tondo, presented by Golden Bike Group Film.

Speaker 1 (32:50):
One FM can the Nicety.

Speaker 7 (32:56):
And Connell.

Speaker 4 (33:00):
Bab Welcome, Welcome, Welcome to the second hour of the show,
live from the Democratic National Convention. I am so excited
our extended coverage across the Koa, Colorado social media pages
and we are brought here by our friends at Goldenspike Roofing.
Roofing done right to the last nail if you need
roofing goldenspikeroofing dot com and a big thanks to Spike

(33:23):
who is also a friend of mine. For sponsoring our coverage. Now,
we were talking right before the break with Rob Dawson
about the protester saying they were going to march to
the United Center. And yesterday when we were driving in
from the airport, they used Midway. Just in case you
guys know this, All of the big cheeses land at Midway.
It's a much easier path to get from Midway into Chicago.

(33:44):
And I guess they have more space at Midway to
park air Force one and air Force two. So the
big cheeses land at Midway. And as we were driving
in yesterday, Kamala Harris was at a rally in Pittsburgh
in Pittsburgh and she was flying in as we like
maybe a half hour after we arrived in Midway in Chicago.

(34:06):
And our driver, Miner, who is a native and he's
been driving for nine years, he pointed out as we
were driving on an interstate coming into Chicago that there
were like snow removal trucks parked on the on ramps
onto the Interstate. He said, that's what they do when
they want to block the Interstate off. They just basically

(34:28):
pull those snow removal trucks onto the ramp and block
the way, So they cleared the entire interstate for the president,
for the vice president, for like super big cheeses who
are coming into town for this. And I have to say,
just on the level of the people who are speaking here,

(34:49):
all of the well except for Jimmy Carter, who was
in hospice and very elderly, all of the other former
Democratic presidents are going to speak at the DNC. So
the star power here is considerable, and I do mean considerable.
And where we're sitting at the United Center, we are
right by the VIP entrance, and I just told Anthony,

(35:10):
I said, look, just watch for all the Secret Service
guys to swarm and maybe we'll see somebody coming in
to do a run through. Although I'm guessing they could
probably bring the president underneath the arena like they do,
you know, like basketball teams and hockey players. I would
think so too, But then again, it's also a chance
to glad hand a little bit too. I don't know.

(35:31):
And like I said, the safest place to be in
Chicago right now is inside the United Center. So I
want to remind you guys that we're going to be
here all week, and I'm getting a lot of frustration
on the text line because interviewed Terry mccaulliff, and you
guys are like, well, aren't you telling you that the
Democrats are socialists? Because I'm at their party. Okay, I'm

(35:51):
at their party. They've allowed us to come here and
check for ourselves what's going on. I'm not going to
be a jerk. I'm going to allow people to talk
because I trust you, Okay, I trust my audience. I
never fear shy away from allowing you to hear other
opinions about policy and whatnot, because I still think the
ideas that I talk about on my program are the

(36:13):
better ideas, and those tend to be the ideas of
the Republican Party. So there you go, Mandy. This is
why polls are wrong often because some people believe that
your vote should be private. I have to say, since
twenty sixteen, the polling industry has taken it on the chin,
and it's kind of amazing that we still give enough
as much credence to the polling data as we do,

(36:36):
because ultimately, the only poll that matters is in November.
We've said that a million times, but also the polls
are being used to I believe convince Republicans and people
who support Trump that he can't win, because there's no
better way to suppress voter turnout than telling you that

(36:57):
your person can't win. I mean, this is what happened
twenty sixteen. I voted for Donald Trump and Dave Lower
and I laughed about it. We laughed and laughed like,
oh yeah, I just gassed my vald for drum, this
is going nowhere vas. I mean, we were like literally joking,
kind of that Gallows humor about it. So imagine my
surprise when I woke up the next morning and he
had won. So you cannot get caught up in that.

(37:20):
I read a great column on the Federalist dot com
the other day about that very thing, about these kind
of doomsayers that say things and convince you that your
person can't win to prevent you from going out and
voting for him. Now, it did work in twenty sixteen
or twenty twenty, you know, there were some things. And
then twenty twenty four, we're gonna see if the people

(37:40):
are fired up enough. If Trump doesn't get it together,
it's gonna be over. I just read some stuff about
is rally in Pennsylvania yesterday. He cannot get his messaging
about this candidacy U Street, and he needs to stop
a talking attacking her and attack the discussing and gross
policies that will be bad for the country. Just throwing
that out there, Mandy, Swing state polls are the only
ones that matter. No, they're not, because this is this

(38:02):
is what I'm saying. I could put together a poll
that could deliver any result you wanted it to deliver.
That's the that's the honest truth about polling. Depending on
who you ask, how many of them you ask. But
how often do you hear people do a deep dive
about the tabs? They call it the tabs, the tabulation?
Who was asked? How you know what questions they were asked?
Was it a push poll? Were we trying to get

(38:24):
the specific answer? So I don't put a lot of
credence in these things, whether my person is up or
my person is down. If you've ever read the blog
at mandy'sblog dot com and we talk about polling, we
talk about the fact that the only poll that matters
is in November. That's it. That's the only poll you
need to know about. Mandy. I know we disagree about
almost everything, but I do appreciate you keeping this less opinionated.

(38:47):
There will be plenty of time for my opinion next
week Friday, leading up to the election, you will get
lots and lots and lots of opinions about how I
feel about the policies we're going to hear here. I
want to hear crickets at the DNC, you will not
because these delegates, just like the RNC delegates, these are
the most dedicated, faithful Democrats. One of the reasons we

(39:11):
have a convention at this point in time, because really,
do we have to do this? We could do this
all They already proved they could do the role call
over a zoom meeting, right. We don't need this, we
don't need the pump and circumstance. But yeah, here we are.
This is a reward for the party faithful, just like
the RNC was a reward for the people that were
more highly engaged. And we're going to try and get

(39:31):
some delegates on as well. We're working on that. But
like I said, they're fired up, they're excited. This is
a much different tone than if Biden had been the nominee. Mandy,
how do you explain the Biden Trump poles where Trump
was leading. If they are put out to make Republicans
believe Trump can't win, I actually think those polls were
worse for Biden. I mean, why do you think he's gone.

(39:53):
Here's the thing you guys don't understand. For every poll
that is released to the public, there are dozens that
are being done behind the scenes that we will never
see any hint of. They are done for the party,
by the party and their proprietary information for the party.
That is why Joe Biden has gone, not because he

(40:13):
was down a little bit to Donald Trump, because in
their internal pulling, he was getting shalapped by Donald Trump.
So you know, that is why. That is why those
things happen. Mandy, did a seven forty seven land at Midway?
I think runways only have room for seven thirty sevens.
That's a good question. Can you google and find out

(40:35):
how long the largest plane that could land at Midway?
I believe that Delta used to land L ten eleven's
at Midway for some reason I don't know. And those
are big planes. But a seven four does need a
bit of a runway, just a bit of a runway. Hey, Mandy,
how is it not a threat to our democracy when
Harris did not rightfully get the position a presidential candidate,
does there not have to be a primary? Well, you're

(40:57):
confusing overall rules about and you know, republican democracy is
what we are, and this is party politics. What is it?
Ki seven there.

Speaker 10 (41:07):
Back in the nineties and early two thousands, the Boeing
seven fifty seven was a daily visitor to Midway. Seven
fifty seven is less common to day, but both United
and Delta still occasionally fly their seven fifty seven in
the midway on charter flight. So you would think that
mean a seven forty seven seven.

Speaker 4 (41:20):
Fourths are bigger seven four Yeah, the bigger the number,
the smaller the number. Well, it doesn't really correlate because
the seven thirty seven smaller than a seven to forty seven,
and a seven fifty seven is a single body aircraft.

Speaker 10 (41:32):
So maybe they do have to land at another One
says runway length and White maring capacity can accommodate the
seven forty seven at midway.

Speaker 6 (41:39):
Okay, that's what this says.

Speaker 4 (41:40):
Yeah, so we shall see they gift true if we
hear any positions, can you keep track of any that
you like? Yes, indeedy, I will, I will let you
know I have a story on the blog today. I
want to get to the blog because I got a
lot of good stuff on the blog today. But one
of the stories that I have on the blog is
and I even put this is why Democrats are going
to get elected because it's a story about CEO compensation.

(42:04):
And if I were the Democratic Party, I would absolutely
make hay of this because this is the kind of
stuff that either gets you elected or gets union started,
or starts the French Revolution. I mean, that's kind of
what hang on, I'm looking for it right now. Let
me see here dun Dunton rip, Phil Donahue. Oh, here

(42:26):
we go. So currently last year CEO average pay, and
the average is important here because not every CEO is
making this kind of money, but we have several CEOs
that wildly distorted. The average CEO in the SMP SMP
companies makes more than two hundred and sixty eight times

(42:47):
their median workers salary. Now, I have always been the
first to defend that the person who has to make
every single final decision, the person who is ultimately fired
or not based on company performance, that is the chief
executive officer, they deserve to make more money. But this
is so far out of historical norms it's not even funny. Now.

(43:11):
CEOs and the S and P five hundred made about
seventeen point seven million on average in twenty twenty three.
But we got a few that have yanked that average up,
I mean yanked it up. You've got a couple. Broadband
Broadcom CEO Hawktan and Palo Alto Network CEO Nikesh Arora

(43:32):
were the top paid CEOs and the S and P
five hundred, with respective compensation of one hundred and sixty
one point eight million and one hundred and fifty one
point four million, and they are the two highest paid
CEOs for now. The least paid CEOs were wait for it,

(43:52):
Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Super micro Computer CEO Charles Lang,
As their compensation is tied to company's performance. Beyond the
S and P five hundred, TPG Capital CEO John Winklereed
and Carlisle Group CEO Harvey Schwartz made one hundred and
ninety eight point six million last year and one hundred

(44:13):
and eighty six point nine million in twenty eight twenty three, respectively.
They were the best paid CEOs in America. So these
guys are bringing the average up a worker at New
Skin Enterprises, or excuse me, the CEO there makes five
point eight million dollars. Abercrombie and Fitch he makes fifteen
or she makes fifteen million in compensation. Now you could

(44:36):
argue that fifteen million. No person needs fifteen million. Well
that's not up to you to decide in a free society.
But if I'm a union boss, if I am a democrat,
these are my attack points. These are my attack points
because in this article that I'm sharing with you, that
is on the blog at mandy'sblog dot com, they're going
through how long an average worker would have to work

(44:57):
in order to make the same level of compensation as
the ceo. And in one of these companies, you would
have had to start working there in seventeen fifty five
to earn the same as those really, really high paid CEOs.
And that's a pretty damning, you know statistic. What's interesting
is Terry mccauliffe, when he was on the show at

(45:18):
the very beginning, he said, Kama is going to be
great for business. Now I didn't press him because we
only had a couple of minutes. But the next time
someone says she's going to be great for business. I'm
going to ask for specifics. Okay, great, specifically what is
going to be great for business? Because right now, the
only plans that she has shown are all about controlling

(45:38):
business through price controls for insulin and curbing outrageous grocery
store profits of one to three percent. So it is. Yeah,
I haven't seen that yet, but I hope to have
an opportunity to ask about that as well. Mandy, the
least paid CEO as the richest man in the world, haha.
I did know the irony of that as well. But

(46:00):
don't worry about Elon. He'll be fine. They're currently working
on a compensation plan for him that could be fifty
six billion dollars.

Speaker 6 (46:09):
It could be.

Speaker 4 (46:11):
It's embroiled in the courts right now. So there you go.
We'll find out about that, Mandy. On the Common Spirit
Health text line, how much of that salary is in cash?
How much is in stock? Normally, when you're talking about
the salary, you're only talking about the cash, So there
could be other stock options involved there that we don't
know about. Mandy. They should limit pay of college professors

(46:32):
and administrators. I'm not suggesting they limit pay, right, I
want to be clear about that. If your company makes
one hundred billion dollars a year, you should be able
to say, yeah, I want good money for that. But
at the same time, if you've got people working in
your company that are barely getting by or not getting by,
visit behoove you to have a salary that is many

(46:55):
thousand times larger than theirs. I mean, at some point
it just gets to be bad business. At some point
the boards of these companies are giving them what they
want with absolutely no pushback. And the boards, of course
are inhabited by friends and colleagues of the CEOs. So
there you go. That would be an attack point I

(47:16):
would use. We'll see if that makes the cut. Mandy.
I wonder how many of my fellow Mandy Connell listeners
have participated in a national political poll within the last year,
how about the last four years. I have not participated
in a political poll in many, many years. I asked
this question because I often wonder who actually participates in
national political polls. You know who does I do? I

(47:39):
always pick up the phone when I see a polling number, always,
and if you did the same, we could start to
move the polling numbers in a different direction. But too
many people look at their caller idea and go, oh god,
I'm not doing that. It usually takes about three or
four minutes, easy peasy, and you answer some questions and
then you go about your day. It's super simple, incredibly
super simple, Mandy. In twenty eleven, a Delta seven forty

(48:04):
seven four hundred made an emergency landing at midway due
to a crack windshield. A replacement plane was sent out
to pick up the passengers. Yeah, you can't really fix that,
like right away. You can't do that anyway, Mandy. The
bigger the number, the smaller the plane. No, that's not

(48:25):
right because the seven thirty seven is smaller than a
seven forty seven, which is bigger than a seven fifty seven,
which is smaller than a seven sixty seven, which is
about the same size as a seven seven seven. So
there's no method to the plane number, at least for Boeing.
So yeah, that's not how that worked. Even though I
started to say that big k big pay gaps have

(48:47):
happened under Democrats, how do they explain that? Well, you guys,
the government, what I'm talking about two different things here.
I'm not saying the government needs to do something about
CEO pay at all. I don't think that the government
should be involved in setting pay for anyone. What I
would like to see is I'd like to see CEOs
recognize that when your average employee is making one thousand

(49:12):
or more percent less than you are, that's maybe time
for reflection, maybe time to say, what can we do
to raise the salaries of the people who are doing
a lot of the day to day work. Not that
a CEO is not doing day to day work, but
a CEO isn't making widgets, a CEO isn't making semiconductors,
a CEO isn't doing the day to day grind, and

(49:33):
obviously they have the money. Just throwing that out there, Mandy.
The longest runway at Midway is sixty five hundred feet
possible for a seven four seven not likely depends on
the weight. Although Air Force one doesn't have three hundred
and fifty people in all that luggage aboard, but it
does have fortified skin and various fortifications within the plane.

(49:53):
That way a lot. I don't know, We're gonna have
to find out. This is now the question of the
of the DNC. Where is the president's plan go a
plane going to land, and I'm guessing somebody has to
know ask where Air Force lands? Air Force one lands
in Chicago. I'm putting air Run to work here. Lei
Coca saved Chrysler. In my opinion, they should still be

(50:14):
paying him thirty years later. Maybe maybe. Did the former
vps speak at the Republican Convention?

Speaker 11 (50:23):
No?

Speaker 4 (50:24):
Did the former first Lady? Yes, Mike Pence spoke at
the Republican Convention.

Speaker 6 (50:27):
Didn't he?

Speaker 4 (50:29):
I'm almost positive Mike Pence did he.

Speaker 6 (50:31):
Sp I don't believe so.

Speaker 4 (50:33):
I thought he did.

Speaker 3 (50:34):
No.

Speaker 4 (50:35):
Oh, no, I guess not. Trump hats him? Yeah, what
am I thinking? Apologies? Let me continue. Did the former
VP speak at the Republican Convention?

Speaker 11 (50:42):
No?

Speaker 4 (50:43):
Did the former first Lady?

Speaker 8 (50:44):
No?

Speaker 4 (50:45):
Did the former second Lady?

Speaker 5 (50:46):
No?

Speaker 4 (50:47):
Did the former presidents No? Did the former chief of
staff know? The people who knew Trump mess didn't speak.
Not even a Vanka Hulkgan spoke, though, that is an
excellent point. I was going to make that. No, not
about the Hulks or I don't care about that. That
was just silly. It was silly, and we all know it.
It was funny and entertaining, but it was silly. I

(51:09):
was gonna make the point that I thought it odd
that George W. Bush did not show up. Now I
know George W. Bush does not like Donald Trump, really
doesn't like Donald Trump. And for a lot of people
who are Trump fans, they wear that as a badge
of honor because they think George W. Bush was the
worst thing. Ever. I do not. I don't share that view.
I still like him, still miss w like him a lot.

(51:31):
Mandy dishing her airplane knowledge is my favorite thing on
National Aviation Day. I don't know, you know National Aviation Day.
I did not know that. But there I've dropped it
all on you. I've dropped pretty much all of it. Mandy.
What about sports stars and actors like Patrick Mahomes? How
many more times than the average stand fan does he make?

(51:53):
And why do we always focus on CEOs? Let me
ask you this, how much money does Patrick Mahomes make
versus this is how much the NFL makes overall? You know,
you have to look at the whole picture, and people
are paid with their worth in the open market. But
I want to make an observation about CEO pay. Specifically,
CEO pay is set by boards. Boards are inhabited generally

(52:17):
speaking by peers of the CEOs, and so they're going
to be far more willing to give their friend a
generous compensation package and not necessarily think about the fact
that it is distorting that traditional number that is much
much lower than what we're seeing right now. So I
love it if companies were like, you know, we should
probably reen this in before everybody unionizes and brings the

(52:39):
entire company dowd Mandy, did you turn Democrat this week?
Thank you? No, I didn't at all. But I'm trying
to point out things that could be problems and attack points.
This is what we're doing here. We're trying to see
what the other side is doing this week. That's a
thing that we're working on. Air Force one has special

(53:03):
short field landing and takeoff ability. Well, that's kind of cool.
That's very cool, you guys. Now every text message is
about whether or not a seven forty seven can land
at midway. We're gonna find out that, oh there's a
little puppers.

Speaker 10 (53:15):
I'm seeing that Air Force one island is landed at O'Hare.
I'm not finding any information about landing.

Speaker 4 (53:21):
Maybe they're landing that at O'Hair. Let's see here, Mandy,
what's so wrong with expressing joy and promise as opposed
to the death and destruction and juvenile name calling that
Trump's views on a daily basis. There's nothing wrong with
it if you have any substance to go along with it.
We didn't even have a policy position to discuss until Friday.

(53:41):
Last Friday was the first major policy speech that Kamala
Harris gave. So what exactly are people voting for if
they don't understand what our policy positions are?

Speaker 2 (53:52):
Is?

Speaker 4 (53:52):
Are they just voting for the vibe? And by the way,
the RNC was incredibly joyful, incredibly joyful. We talked about
it that week, So being joyful is not a bad thing.
Give me some meat on the bones of the joy
skeleton and then you may have something. Right now, there's
not enough meat on the bones. We're going to take
a time out, get some news, trafficking weather back right

(54:13):
after this. We are in the United Center. Rob Dawson,
our man literally on the street, is on the street
with the protesters. Rob, where are you and what's happening now?

Speaker 2 (54:26):
Hey?

Speaker 8 (54:26):
So Andy, We're at Union Park as the crow applies,
about a half mile from here, maybe a little bit
longer when you go through the city street. Hard to
tell the number of purchasers, though it feels like a
larger portion of the park is filled with them. And
they have now a couple of times with the microphone
indicated that they are going to march to the United Center.

(54:49):
We have no idea when that's happening or is it happening,
because we know sometimes that protest leaders will say something
in the microphone and then it calls the park. But
I even asked one person in the crowd saying, Hey,
is there a march, and he's like, yes, indeed there
will be. So we wait.

Speaker 4 (55:06):
So, I mean this is a permitted protest right at
Union Park. This is one of the permitted protests they
were having.

Speaker 8 (55:14):
Yes, I mean this is planned right from the beginning
in terms of like the stage and being prepared for
it and being allowed at this part. So indeed, this
is this has been a gathering spot that everyone knew about.

Speaker 4 (55:31):
Okay, So I'm just wondering is the march also permitted
or are they going to go rogue and march somewhere
without a permit.

Speaker 8 (55:38):
And That's what I'm wondering, Andy, I'm not sure what
that is but you know, you look for clues sometimes
with the safety team. Yeah, and we were making a
light of the fact that they have vest events. They're
not really wearing a lot of protective clothing here, but
a couple of members of the safety team have.

Speaker 11 (56:15):
The National Weather Service in Denver has issued a flash
flood warning for Central Albert County until four thirty pm
and one thirty six pm Mountain daylight time. Zoppler radar
indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the worn area. Between
two and three inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall

(56:36):
amounts up to one inch are possible in the worn area.
Flash flooding is ongoing or.

Speaker 3 (56:42):
Expected to begin surely. Hazard flash flooding caused by thunderstorms
source radar indicated impact flash flooding of small creeks and streams, vilages,
roads and four drainage and low lying areas. Some locations
they will experience flooding include mainly rural areas of Central

(57:05):
Albert County. This includes the following streams and drainages. These
these who Creek, Green Springs, creek and being sandy creek.
To move to higher ground now, not quickly, to protect
your life and be aware of your surroundings and do
not drive on flooded roads.

Speaker 8 (57:31):
Now here's the other interesting thing, Mandy. There are micro
protests within the main events. Some people have broken out
into their own groups to maybe thing or chant about
a one of them because there's many of them. So
for example, there's people with pink shirt that the capitalism

(57:52):
has got to go or something, and they've been thinking
that it's on for a while now. So that is
up from the name state doesn't is not like a
music festival almost where they have the name stage. Yeah,
and they have like breakout areas.

Speaker 4 (58:08):
That's hilarious. That is absolutely hilarious. This guy said, I
am also on the streets selling lemonade? Is are there
any kind of are there any kind of of like
like vendors? Are people out there selling lemonade? What's going
on there?

Speaker 6 (58:26):
Up to you?

Speaker 8 (58:27):
There was one guy just having water. He had the
wagons ball of water. I don't see a lot of venders.
Will remember, I'm also in the middle, so it's not
like the park is terribly big, but I'm not sure. Also,
he could get in where on the street. So I've
only seen one guy like in a water that didn't
look like he was part of the pertest.

Speaker 7 (58:46):
Oh so there is an Italian night.

Speaker 8 (58:48):
There is an Italian nice guy right now, and he's
got a little bell.

Speaker 4 (58:53):
Is he giving it away? Is he engaging in dirty
rotten capitalism? Or is he actually selling them? Just here
he is.

Speaker 8 (59:01):
If you have any I'm another to my equipment here.

Speaker 4 (59:05):
Just say how much. Just walk up and say how much,
and then just yell dirty capitalist and run away whatever
he says.

Speaker 8 (59:10):
Hold hold on, let me you want me trying to
walk over there?

Speaker 4 (59:13):
Let me do that'd be fantastic. I would love that.

Speaker 7 (59:16):
Okay, here, just pick me up my back.

Speaker 6 (59:21):
All right.

Speaker 8 (59:23):
Here we're walking down the street and I'll read the chirt.

Speaker 7 (59:28):
D O t O G O got to go.

Speaker 8 (59:30):
Capitalism has got to go, all right, So let's alternative
do party here? All right? Where's the ice guy?

Speaker 4 (59:38):
I'm giving right, I'm giving Rob tasks that are going
to get his ass kicks at the protest here. So
I'm just you know, I'm just sending them over to
do some stuff.

Speaker 7 (59:45):
I think I lost the ice guy here.

Speaker 4 (59:47):
Oh is he just walking through the crowd in.

Speaker 8 (59:49):
A second, Yeah, he's walking through the crowd.

Speaker 4 (59:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 11 (59:53):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (59:54):
And by the way, for people who are pointing out
there was an eas alert where where you didn't miss anything.
I'm making Ross. I'm making Rob walk over to the
Italian ice guy to see if he's engaging in dirty
capitalism or not. So we're going to do that. Did
you find it? I lot?

Speaker 8 (01:00:09):
I WoT now I lost them. I put my head
down for one second.

Speaker 6 (01:00:14):
Dang it.

Speaker 4 (01:00:15):
Okay, well we'll have to do that later. Rob, keep
us posted, and especially if they start walking, call us
back and let us know. And Rob's been posting all
kinds of photos and videos along with a Rod on
our social media channels at Koa, Colorado. Rob, don't get
hurt trying to get an Italian Ice. But we'll talk
to you later.

Speaker 6 (01:00:33):
All right, we'll do all right.

Speaker 4 (01:00:34):
That's Rob Dawson, our man on the street from the DNC.
I got a couple of text messages. This person said, Mandy,
please explain the obsession from DEM's on CEO compensation. My
dem friends go off on this all the time. Is
there a benefit to Democrats of corporations lower the CEO
dollars or just a talking point? Also, Democrat friends have
no issue telling businesses how to pay employees. Twenty bucks

(01:00:57):
an hour, and those jobs are for less intelligent people.
A literal quote from a Colorado dem There's a lot
of things involved in this. Part of it has to
do with unionization. And when you can point out that
the CEO is making way way more than you, it
is much easier to entice people to join a union.
That's part of it. But you know, like it or not,
you guys, a lot of Democrats really believe they're doing

(01:01:20):
God's work looking out for the little guy, right, and
unfortunately they do so in such a way that often
ends up crushing the little guy. And you look at
the increases in the minimum wage that we've seen in Denver, Colorado,
that now there are restaurants going out of business, restaurants
from prominent chefs. We're not talking about brand new restauranteurs.

(01:01:41):
Prominent chefs are saying it is no longer worth it
to do business in Denver. And what that means is
there are fewer people who would be working as waitresses, waiters, bartenders,
kitchen staff. They're not going to have a place to work,
and that means that wages are going to be depressed
because there's very little, you know, actual competition for those
in employees as there has been for a long time.

(01:02:02):
So it matters. And when you think that you are
looking out for the little guy and you stop like
the end result of your actions there, then yeah, it is.
It's an argument that they're going to continue to make.
And that's why I brought the story up, because if
I were a Democrat, I'd run with that story that
I did a little while ago. Now when we get
back Ogie's, we got people wiping out on the stairs.

(01:02:24):
I did that twice already, thank you. So I'm glad
I'm not the only one. I've got a couple of
things on the blog that I want to get to,
one of them about the Colorado Republican Party. The drauma continues.
We'll do that next. People are starting to make their
way in. It's kind of fun and interesting to see.

(01:02:44):
It's like Old Home Week. Lots of people hugging, lots
of people who haven't seen each other in a long time.
Kind of interesting.

Speaker 6 (01:02:51):
A lot of joy.

Speaker 4 (01:02:52):
There is a lot of joy. Today's no we're not
counting oh we say joy. No, no, we're not saying that.
We were noticing that that is the big word of
the day. What's not joyful? Is David Williams, the current
chair of the Republican Party, at least until this Saturday,
because after a group of Republicans following party by laws

(01:03:13):
and called a meeting that will take place this weekend
in Brighton, after being delayed by a judge who inserted
himself incorrectly into party business, he has now uninserted himself.
The judge has declared, look, I've got no business ruling
on inter party matters, so the meeting will take place Saturday. Now,
we already know that Dave Williams, who has failed miserably

(01:03:36):
at doing things as the chairman of the Colorado Top
He hasn't been able to raise money. He used party
funds to prop up his failing congressional campaign. He attacked
other Republicans in the primary. He sent out a purity
test right before he sent out the most vile and
revolting email attacking gay people. He's just been an abject fail.

(01:04:00):
But we know he won't go quietly into the night.
We already know this. He's still fighting it. But the
meeting will take place this weekend, And if you are
part of the Central Committee, please, for the love of God,
go to these meetings. Go to the one this weekend,
go to the one on the thirty first. Get this
guy out. He has no business leading this party. Unfortunately,

(01:04:21):
his officers have surrounded themselves and have absolutely glombed onto
him for no apparent reason. I don't understand. I don't
understand it. And now they will be able to bounce
him out. We'll see what happens. Todd Watkins is one
of the Republicans who have been behind this movement to
get him out, and Watkins says Davis tried every bully
tactic against us up to and including lawfare. He's been

(01:04:44):
losing at every turn. All right, let's go to Rob
one more time before we have to take a break. Rob,
Are you on the move? Rob Duson? Are you on
the move?

Speaker 6 (01:04:55):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (01:04:55):
Dang it, Well, I'm guessing he's on the move. We'll
get him back on at after the top of the hour.

Speaker 10 (01:05:00):
Yeah, that is right in the line when we kind
of heard going in phone service all around the area
is not ideal with this many people.

Speaker 6 (01:05:07):
It wasn't as big of a problem for us at
the RNZ.

Speaker 10 (01:05:09):
Milwaukee, but Chicago, especially the past amount of protests.

Speaker 4 (01:05:12):
Yeah, I mean, this is just going to be very
very very interesting. Okay, yeah, Mandy, some would say it
was joyful there blank stairs, minimal blinking kind of yes, Mandy,
did all the past Democratic presidents and Harris fly together
on Air Force one Conway. Harris is already here. She
got here yesterday. She'll be here tonight to kind of

(01:05:34):
get the baton from Joe Biden. Hopefully they treat it
better than the men's one.

Speaker 10 (01:05:39):
Hundrel baton hand off on the stage.

Speaker 4 (01:05:43):
We don't want it's after five, I know, after five pm.

Speaker 6 (01:05:47):
He's all ready to be like however, they're getting him
raided rock. There'll be no.

Speaker 4 (01:05:51):
Stairs, I do know that right, There'll be no stacks,
white jogging, No, they'll there'll be no there'll be no
athletic anything from.

Speaker 6 (01:06:00):
The first walking. Now he's walking, okay, now on to
the stage.

Speaker 4 (01:06:04):
Shuffling, shuffling, shuffling. Yeah, yeah, Mandy, what do you think
the chances are Dave Williams was a plant? What a
great question, because if I were the Colorado Democratic Party,
I would absolutely make a person like Dave Williams and
send him into the Colorado GOP. I mean, why wouldn't I.

(01:06:25):
He's done a great job in burning the whole thing
down and burns exactly. We'll get hooked up with Rob
and find out if the marchers are on the way.
In the next hour, we are giving away the opportunity
to get registered for a pair of Broncos season tickets.
It's all coming up next. Keep you right here on KAWA.

Speaker 1 (01:06:45):
The Mandy Connell Show is sponsored by Bell and Pollock
Accident and Injury Lawyers.

Speaker 2 (01:06:51):
Live from Chicago for the Democratic National Convention.

Speaker 6 (01:06:55):
It's Mandy Connell.

Speaker 1 (01:07:00):
Presented Mike Golden Bike Group film on KOA.

Speaker 4 (01:07:04):
Ninety four one.

Speaker 1 (01:07:05):
We met them, became the nice.

Speaker 6 (01:07:12):
Connell keeping sad thing.

Speaker 4 (01:07:15):
Welcome, Welcome, Welcome to the third hour of the show,
live staring at the Michael Jordan's Statue in the United
Center for the Democratic National Convention. We're going to be
here all week, and as I've said multiple times before,
we are here to bring you with us to the
Democratic National Convention. So when I talk to people, although

(01:07:36):
I will say a rod, it is a lot harder
to find people to talk to you here than it
was at the RNC.

Speaker 6 (01:07:43):
Yeah, and harder.

Speaker 10 (01:07:45):
I mean it's more about there are not as many
folks walking around petitioning to get their individuals on the
core media outlets as it was at the RNC. I
mean it was literally like candy, we said no a
million times yep.

Speaker 4 (01:07:58):
So in this respect, we are going to go to
our man that we know, we'll talk to us. Rob
Dawson is now not with a protest, but with a march. Rob,
what's happening where you are?

Speaker 8 (01:08:09):
Okay? So here's what's going on. We're marching right now
long West Washington Boulevard. Of course we are. The starting
point was about three quarters of a mile maybe a
mile from the United Center when you weave through the
streets right here. What's happening in the first five to
ten minutes or so was the police let them advance
maybe ten feet, then stop, advanced ten then stop. And

(01:08:33):
now it seems like this march is we're organizing. We're
now walking down the street. We just started that about
two minutes ago. There is now here we go the
police are halting them again. Looks like perhaps.

Speaker 4 (01:08:47):
Now are they are they halting them so they can
control traffic ahead of them? Can you see what's ahead
right now?

Speaker 8 (01:08:53):
Really no, I can't because we have that mint streets here.
So every every time this march down a few more feet.
The police officers get their bike along the side of
the road to block people from going towards the protesters
in the.

Speaker 7 (01:09:10):
Street, So that might be part of this as well.

Speaker 8 (01:09:12):
They're inching group by group down the street, so on
each side the left and the right of the street
there are police with their bikes blocking anyone out from
going into the street.

Speaker 4 (01:09:23):
Well, that will be very convenient if you walk to
the United Center, then you can come join us, because
we're going to go get lunch when we're done here.

Speaker 8 (01:09:29):
Well, at this rate, it might be benn.

Speaker 4 (01:09:34):
Yeah, Rob, I did want to say to you that
if you come and sit here with us, all the
big cheeses will walk by us. When mister Spike Lee
just walked by us, it was our first want to
meet him. Well at out of here, like he was
one of the track stars from the Olympics, and they
were sprinting even faster. He was obviously on his way somewhere.

Speaker 6 (01:09:56):
Yeah, I could not keep that.

Speaker 9 (01:10:00):
The seeing with what's happening here because it's hard to
sometimes mix between the media and the protesters.

Speaker 8 (01:10:07):
I just want to point out that I thought that
the marches a little bit further down the street. So
the march is the gun now, and this is what
they're doing is they have someone uh on a speaker. Okay,
so well they're moving a speaker on a like a hand.

Speaker 4 (01:10:25):
Part almost probably are you trying not to laugh right
now as you are giving us this report a little.

Speaker 8 (01:10:33):
Bit because I can't see where the speaker is though,
Jesus the organization sy I evaluate things based on organization,
and uh. The problem was I couldn't see the stage
like they had Cornell West on the day earlier.

Speaker 4 (01:10:47):
Oh wow.

Speaker 8 (01:10:47):
And I couldn't see him because of the signs in
the way the times were in the front and the back.
I can't. I don't know if you could see how
how loud it is now, It's pretty good. It's pretty
good volume right now. So the leader is standing next
to the speakers on the ground, and then they have
a hand card that has a large speaker at top,

(01:11:08):
and a few of the members of the protest group
are wheeling this down the streets slowly.

Speaker 4 (01:11:15):
Well, is it Cordell West running for president right now?

Speaker 8 (01:11:21):
Well, maybe he's the third party candidate that he is,
because as we discussed the four uh that none of
the major party candidates are palatable to these people here.

Speaker 4 (01:11:31):
Well, he is.

Speaker 1 (01:11:31):
He is.

Speaker 4 (01:11:32):
He's running an independent presidential campaign right now. So it's
interesting that he spoke there is there anybody else that
we would have known from that this group of speakers
at this protest, not that I was seeing.

Speaker 8 (01:11:45):
That was the one name that said after me when
I was here.

Speaker 7 (01:11:49):
Did not hear anybody else?

Speaker 9 (01:11:51):
Okay, Jill, I'm watching to see just real quick if
there's tension between because it's it's really pressed now filming
the protesters.

Speaker 8 (01:12:03):
So the media is filming them. It's not even like
the police are right up on the protesters right now.

Speaker 4 (01:12:09):
All right then? Okay, Rob, right now, Yeah, try not
to get killed. We'll see you here in a bit.
If you make it back here, we'll have lunch.

Speaker 8 (01:12:17):
Okay, okay, great.

Speaker 4 (01:12:19):
All right, that's Rob Dawson for you. Protest right now
or dinner. Somebody just asked this question. They've asked us
several times, and I want to talk about this before
we run out of time. So a Rod told me
something last night, I think at dinner?

Speaker 6 (01:12:30):
Was it Rob?

Speaker 8 (01:12:30):
Last night?

Speaker 4 (01:12:31):
They said, hey, you know that Planned Parenthood brought a
mobile abortion clinic and they're offering free medical abortions and vasectomies.

Speaker 6 (01:12:39):
Yeah, I told you the other day.

Speaker 4 (01:12:40):
I y'all that is that is awful. Now they're not
actually performing abortions. They are giving out abortion drugs if
you would like them, but they are performing vasectomies. And
I'm wondering how many guys do you think are going
to take them up on that. We'll look for the
guys who are walking funny, and we'll know if I.

Speaker 10 (01:13:03):
Were to ever do that, I don't think it would
be inside a van.

Speaker 6 (01:13:07):
Yeah, oh yeah, probably if you I would assume.

Speaker 4 (01:13:11):
You know, of all things to decide at a political convention,
never to have children. It's not one that I thought
would be a thing.

Speaker 10 (01:13:17):
And it comes across your Twitter time like, yeah, that
I've been wanting to let me do that in the van.

Speaker 4 (01:13:21):
You know what, free? It is free. It might be
appealing for other people, Mandy, Yes, I've seen that a
lot of you asking you say Kamala is low on
policy details. Then run a news story saying Trump will
make crime a fraction of what it is now in Chicago.

Speaker 10 (01:13:39):
Do better?

Speaker 4 (01:13:39):
KOA. Can I just say if you say in my direction,
do better, it physically makes me want to do worse.
It physically makes me want to do something so bad
because that is the most condescending a whole statement that
you can make to someone. Condescending a whole statement. I
hate that, absolutely hate it. So now I'm sure that

(01:14:00):
every text message is going to be like, Mandy, do better,
because I really do despise it. So whatever you said,
I don't care because I despise it. Anyway, We'll be
right back. I have three lists working on the back
of my back of my scratch pad. Here. I have
the joy mentions we had one by Terry mccalliff at
the very beginning of the show, my celebrity list Spike Lee.

(01:14:22):
I'm guessing that list is going to be sizable by
the end. And then I have my RNC versus DNC
list going right now, so I'll have all of those
totals for you at the end of the week. I
just want to let you know what we're working on.
Let's just say, according to the Common Spirit Health text line,
the free visectomies and abortions are not going over well
on my text line, and I cannot read a lot

(01:14:43):
of those, So there you go, Mandy. When Biden shows
up walking funny he probably didn't get a vasectomy. He
just pooped his pants. Now is that nice? Is that nice?
That's not nice. Sometimes I don't read these before I
read them on the air. As you can tell, let
them get snipped. Less liberals to deal with. Even conservatives

(01:15:04):
have liberal children. These things happen. Even liberal people have
conservative children. That's not a guarantee. The Democrats are Oh
got that. That's we're gonna We're gonna move on. I
got a lot of stuff I want to talk about
very very quickly here before we take another break one.
You know, one of the things that has not been

(01:15:25):
explored about Tim Walls is his love of China and
communism in China. And I'm not exaggerating, I'm not engaging hyperbole.
You only have to look back to his time as
a high school teacher when he said directly to his kids,
he told his students, the nation is governed by communism.

(01:15:47):
It means that everyone is the same and everyone shares.
He said. The doctor and the construction worker make the same.
The Chinese government and the place they work for provide
housing and about thirty pounds of rice per month, but
they get food and housing. The age growing up now
born in the late nineteen seventies could have a brother
or sister and the family would not have to pay

(01:16:08):
a tax. Isn't that wonderful? Now, this is from when
he was a high school teacher. He spent a lot
of time going in and out of China. And I'm
not saying that someone should be excluded because they spent
a lot of time in one of our geopolitical foes.
I'm not saying they should be excluded as vice president,
but wouldn't you like to get some questions answered about this,

(01:16:28):
especially after what we know about the close ties that
the Biden family has with the Chinese government and Chinese
representatives through Hunter and his numerous business deals. I mean,
I just have questions. I'd just like to know what
exactly are you doing here? He went on. There's an article,
by the way, a letter in the Nebraska Alliance Times

(01:16:50):
Herald that focused on his work on a student exchange
programs in China. He was teaching social studies, and you know,
this sounds certainly like what President Harris just said about. Hey,
we've got to make sure that the outcomes are equal.
And this could be a huge problem because no matter

(01:17:11):
where you are politically, if you're a successful person and
you've worked really hard to get where you've gotten, are
you willing to say, you know what, I realized that
I sacrificed a lot to go to college. Maybe I
took on a huge amount of debt that I then
had to pay back before you know, the president just
wiped out debt for some people. But maybe I did that.
And then maybe I started out in business and I

(01:17:33):
worked really hard. In some years, I worked sixty seventy
hours a week, and then I built something really big
from the ground up because I was willing to take
a risk and start a business that nobody else was
willing to start. And then I put in more eighty
hour weeks. And I've been doing this for years and
I've been very, very successful because of it. But now
you have someone running for president who says, hey, you
know what, you need to give some of that to

(01:17:54):
someone who didn't do any of those things as kind
of a tough sell in the grand scheme of things,
and it flies in the face of everything that our
country is based on. So it's going to be interesting
if we ever get to answer ask these questions, if
we get to ever kind of drill down on the
feelings of the Vice president and how they mesh or
don't mesh with Vice President Harris. Again, I'm not seeing

(01:18:19):
a bunch of interviewing going on now. We'll see what
happens later in the week. Now, we're going to take
a time out. And when we do that, in just
a little bit, like maybe coming up in the next segment,
someone is going to get qualified to win a pair
of tickets to the twenty twenty four Broncos season, and

(01:18:40):
we're going to do that. I've got a trivia question.
It might be too complicated. I don't know. We'll have
to find out. You'll have to listen up next to
find out what it is. We'll be right back. We
are broadcasting live from the d NZ at the United Center,
but I have some local stories I want to get
to you really really quickly. Starting with this A Rod.
Did you happen to see your boy bow Knicks yesterday?

Speaker 10 (01:19:02):
I did, and he continues to look absolutely incredible.

Speaker 4 (01:19:07):
Bow believable. It is all bow Leaf believe, we all believe.

Speaker 6 (01:19:11):
And we believe that it's just a matter of time.

Speaker 10 (01:19:15):
Not looking like it's going to be today, but maybe
some point this week Sean Baton makes it official he's
the starting quarterback.

Speaker 4 (01:19:19):
I heard a SoundBite from Dave Logan earlier in the
news saying, you know, we're not gonna We're not You're
probably not gonna see Bow play again. Why would you
put him out there again and give other teams a
chance to scheme defensively against him when he's already sort
of demonstrated that he has enough of a rudimentary handle
on the offense to run it well.

Speaker 10 (01:19:37):
That and the fact that it's only three preseason games,
no longer four, and the fourth is typically where you
don't see the starters. You see the guys who are
roster bubble guys or guys that are just not just playing,
not making the team. So this now upcoming will be
the third and final preseason game. But when Bow knicks
in two games, goes twenty three of thirty, which is
seventy six percent completion percentage, two hundred five passing yards,
a couple of touchdowns, and like one hundred and sixteen

(01:19:58):
passer rating, looks comfortable. Clearly as Sean Payton's guy's going
be a perfect fitness offense, methodically moved down the field,
keep his dies Downfield doesn't look like a rookie. This
is the guy that Sean Payton wanted. He has proven
into preseason games. He's the guy. You shouldn't see him again.
I don't anticipate you see him again. And Broncos country
is gleaming. They definitely believe.

Speaker 4 (01:20:19):
In this exactly, we believe. There you go, and you
will hopefully see him very very soon, leading the Broncos
to victory. Now, one more local story I'm going to
grab and it's really important, you guys, really important. What
is our signature dessert? I love these lists that are
like every states signature whatever. Right, No, that's not a

(01:20:41):
dessert though. So I looked and the first thing I
look at to verify the veracity of this list is Florida,
because I'm from Florida. Originally I look and even before
I scrolled down, I was like, well, obviously Florida isn't
key Lime pie. This is a janky list. Florida is
kee lin pie signature dessert. I love key Lin pie.
What's your rob with Keel and Pye? Not good, it's great,
it's delicious. Oh my gosh, I can't even with that one.

Speaker 6 (01:21:03):
Not I'm just saying but Colorado doesn't get either.

Speaker 4 (01:21:07):
Lest I mean for me, no, but for other people obviously, yes.
I mean it makes sense.

Speaker 6 (01:21:12):
It makes sense, it doesn't make it right.

Speaker 4 (01:21:13):
I wanted to see which what you guys guessed on
the text line at five sixty six nine. Oh, guess
the Colorado signature dessert. It's not surprising, but I didn't
know that we had a signature dessert until I read this,
and I'm curious if you guys will guess it. So
there you go. I've given you something to text about
at five sixty six nine.

Speaker 1 (01:21:32):
Oh.

Speaker 4 (01:21:33):
Cool story on the blog today about Colorado becoming a
hotbed of quantum computing companies. Now I counsider and lie
and pretend that I know what quantum computing actually is,
but I just think it's like super fast computing. And
we have a bunch of companies coming in and now
even more of them, so that is exciting. I also

(01:21:55):
have a column on the blog about by John Caldera.
The last week we got the numbers and about homelessness
in Denver. We've spent one hundred and fifty five million
dollars and the number of homeless people on our streets
went and actually not on our streets. Homeless people overall
went up unsheltered homelessness went down by just a little bit.

(01:22:16):
John Caldera writes about Parkinson's law and the Parkinson's laws
simple work expands so as to fill the time available
for its completion, and he applies it to homelessness now.
He said, Coloraden's passed to tax increase on wealthier folks
to buy school lunches for any kid who wanted one.

(01:22:37):
Yet bureaucrats seem surprised that more than a third more
kids as they expected as showed up for free food,
bankrupting the scheme in its first year. He kind of
says the same thing. We expanded shelters for the homeless
to record high number, and presto justice, Parkinson predicted, we
have a record high number of homeless people. The number
expanded to fit the space available. Again, who didn't expect that?

(01:23:00):
And just like trading your small suitcase for a large
suitcase and then a steamer trunk still not large enough,
we will always be able to have more people to
hows than places to house them. Okay, I got everybody
guessing on the dessert of Colorado, and only one one
person got it. Right, one person, No, it's not cheesecake,

(01:23:25):
mile high pie, which I've never heard of, pants made
of peach cobbler, which is close but not quite right.
I can't read that one Rocky Road. That would actually
be very clever if Rocky Road ice cream was our
rocky but it's Rocky Mountain Chocolate ice cream. No Rocky
Road ice cream, Rocky Mountain oyster is not a dessert,

(01:23:45):
not a dessert. And one person out of all of
you texted in got peach pie. They say, Palisade peach
pie is our signature dessert. But I think it's weird
that nobody knew that.

Speaker 6 (01:24:00):
It's of all the great desserts.

Speaker 4 (01:24:01):
I mean, he's your favorite dessert.

Speaker 6 (01:24:03):
Cheesecake easily just plain cheesecake. It can have a.

Speaker 10 (01:24:08):
Light, light topping of like like what cherry right, normal raspberry.

Speaker 4 (01:24:11):
Which strawberries are usually cheese.

Speaker 6 (01:24:14):
Sometimes very light coating of that.

Speaker 10 (01:24:15):
Otherwise the best plain cheesecake, like when Dave Lauer made
his signature homemade cheesecakes, life was as.

Speaker 4 (01:24:21):
Good as you get exactly.

Speaker 10 (01:24:23):
I mean, that's just the top tier cheesecake, even you
know what it's also it's the highest ceiling, but also
the highest floor dessert. It's really hard to find bad
cheesecake in I disagree.

Speaker 4 (01:24:34):
I have had some bad cheesecake in my life. You
just haven't had it enough places.

Speaker 6 (01:24:37):
I've had a lot.

Speaker 4 (01:24:38):
I don't know this texture, pointed out Mandy. I'm from Chicago,
and I would say the signature dirt of dessert of
Chicago is cheesecake at Marshall Fields Downtown signature. Miam would
take me there every Christmas after going to the Science
and Industry Museum. Agree with a Rod, key lime pie
is not good. Now, let me ask you a question
about your version of key lime pie that you're talking about.

(01:24:59):
Are you talking got the lime green with the meringue
on the top or like the pale yellow with no
topping on it key lime pie?

Speaker 6 (01:25:07):
Either literally, one of them is horrible.

Speaker 4 (01:25:10):
One of them is an abomination, and it's not real
key lime pie.

Speaker 6 (01:25:14):
Abomination.

Speaker 4 (01:25:15):
It's disgusting. It's an abomination. I use palis peaches to
make peach cobbler. That list can suck it. Marshall Fields,
Marshall Fields.

Speaker 6 (01:25:24):
Yeah Fields.

Speaker 4 (01:25:26):
Okay, thank you for the person who texted this. Quantum
computing uses fundamental subatomic particle principles to compute probablistic outcomes.

Speaker 6 (01:25:33):
Bless you.

Speaker 4 (01:25:34):
Totally not helpful at all, but I appreciate you.

Speaker 6 (01:25:36):
Text her.

Speaker 4 (01:25:37):
You may as well have just said, blah blah blah
blah blah blah blah blah blah.

Speaker 6 (01:25:40):
Yeh, where's the Charlie Brown teacher? Right there?

Speaker 4 (01:25:44):
Pork green chili cheesecake? That is disgusting. Although you can
make a savory cheesecake. Did you know this?

Speaker 6 (01:25:51):
I'm kind of intrigued.

Speaker 4 (01:25:52):
Oh no, yeah, in I mean it would be like
hard caso dip, don't you think probably? Yeah? And do
you put sugar in that?

Speaker 6 (01:26:02):
Yes?

Speaker 4 (01:26:02):
No?

Speaker 6 (01:26:04):
Yeah, no, both?

Speaker 4 (01:26:06):
Well, I mean a lot of stuff has sugar and
salt in it. At the same time, this guy's taking
a picture of us, like, how you doing? How you doing?
We are elevated, and we are.

Speaker 6 (01:26:17):
Of all the people.

Speaker 10 (01:26:18):
Again, there are so many outlets here. It cannot go
overstated that we are up on one of like the
prime positions and on the only one of the big
stages elevated among everyone else.

Speaker 6 (01:26:30):
Everyone looks at us.

Speaker 4 (01:26:31):
Several people have asked if we have bumped into Kyle Clark.

Speaker 6 (01:26:36):
Yet I have not.

Speaker 4 (01:26:38):
We gonna find out where the TV people are because
we're in radio road.

Speaker 6 (01:26:41):
I've looked everywhere so far.

Speaker 4 (01:26:43):
Well. Fox News is doing Dana Prino and builded their
show from here, so they're obviously somewhere. So maybe before
we go get lunch, we'll do a lap and kind
of get the lay of the land like we did before,
and find out where the press area is to watch
the events. Because one of the reasons I'm excited that
we're here at the DNA see is I want to
see uh three former presidents speak. While I just called

(01:27:05):
Joe Biden a former president, you know, come on, it's
like after he leaves here tonight, they're just going to
take him back to the White House and put him
in the basement. No one's going to ever see him again.

Speaker 10 (01:27:14):
He is going to take the stage tonight because he's
last ten fifteen.

Speaker 6 (01:27:18):
Oh boy.

Speaker 4 (01:27:20):
Yeah, the big speeches start at five fifteen. And if
you missed us earlier talking about who is who's going
to be speaking tonight. One difference from the RNC and
the DNC is that this is like all politicians. It
is all elected officials. It is all uh you know,
talking heads, a bunch of union bosses. You know who's

(01:27:40):
not here mister Teamsters, Yep, he did not get invited
to participate in the group speak. They're having like six
union bosses on Sean Finn, Sean Fine, the guy from
the auto Workers union has his, he has an individual slot,
but the head of the Teamsters will not be speaking
at the DNC.

Speaker 10 (01:28:00):
Didn't he say ahead of the r n C that
they put out there, they were putting out the initial
feelers for interest to the RNC and DNC, and didn't
didn't he say yes, don't Only.

Speaker 6 (01:28:10):
The RNC reached back out correct or responded.

Speaker 4 (01:28:12):
So that's where he was. But that's kind of interesting.
I still fully expect the team starts to not endorse
or endorse the Democratic case.

Speaker 10 (01:28:19):
Would be then neither or do you think they go Republican,
go with Trump or just neither.

Speaker 4 (01:28:24):
I here's the thing. I think that as bold as
the speech at the RNC was, there are still a
lot of union guys who are not happy about that.
Now there's a lot of union guys for Trump, so
I think he's got to sort of his best move
would be to stay out of it if he doesn't
want to.

Speaker 6 (01:28:41):
You spoke of the RNC.

Speaker 10 (01:28:42):
You kind of said without saying where maybe.

Speaker 6 (01:28:45):
It would lie. But you leave it there.

Speaker 10 (01:28:46):
You kind of let people guess after that, you don't
make it official and efficient endorsement.

Speaker 4 (01:28:51):
Yeah, I'll take Biden in a physical fitness test over
Trump any day of the weekend, twice on Sunday. Your
stick is getting old, now, precious, precious, precious Texter. Now
you can say that I'm too hard on Joe Biden's policies.
You can say all of those things, but please, the
man cannot walk up the stairs of an airplane without
falling down. He can't walk across the stage without falling down.

(01:29:15):
So let's just this physical prowess thing. No, we're not
doing that. I mean, you want to see two old
dudes fight. That'd be awesome. It'd be just like an
Olympic judo match.

Speaker 10 (01:29:25):
Hey, everybody, it would be the highest viewed paid for
pay per view bout of all time.

Speaker 4 (01:29:29):
You got it, check, you got it. Let's go on.
Rob Dawson is now slowly marching towards the United Center
with the protesters, who apparently, Rob do have a permit
for the march. What is happening where you are?

Speaker 8 (01:29:43):
Okay? So right now, the protesters keep walking down the street,
they are on I believe if we just passed and
would I believe according to Google Maps, we're about two
three tenths let's say, a quarter mile away from the
UNI at center right now, and so far they've been

(01:30:05):
able to walk down the street and there has not
been any pushing and shoving. At the front of the line.
The safety team, as we've been talking about before, these
are the people in the green and orange back. They
are forming a human chain. They're interlocking arms. And then
the protesters are there.

Speaker 3 (01:30:24):
Now.

Speaker 9 (01:30:25):
Some have walked in front of the banner, but many,
of course are behind. I said at ten to twenty
in front.

Speaker 8 (01:30:31):
The rest of the thousand are behind, and they are
still wheeling these speakers on a hand cart and they're
moving fully down the street. Now I'm not you know,
obviously this is not our town, but I would cording
Goole mass were a quarter away, so I would have
to imagine that some good fencing is nearby, right.

Speaker 4 (01:30:56):
Yeah, I would guess. So, I mean you should be
able to see it eventually, kind of looming in the
day distance. It remains to me seeing where they're going
to go once they're here, because the security zone is
pretty significant. They can't walk up to the United Center.

Speaker 8 (01:31:09):
So what's happening. Also, I want to point out, and
this is the first time I think I've been in
the march of this side. Of course, when we see
these things on TV, it's a little different. Both the
media is able to get right up front to the.

Speaker 7 (01:31:25):
Cree machain that is not the officers.

Speaker 8 (01:31:27):
The officers are walking on the sides of the street
with their fight and uh, and then the media should
get right up to the human chain and uh and
and film and video of them. Of course, there is shouting,
there is other private security that is here that it's
telling the media to move along right now. But the
media presence is very great. I'd say one hundreds, maybe

(01:31:52):
up to a thousand.

Speaker 9 (01:31:53):
Media members that are in the front of the march,
and they're walking with the protesters, and they're and they're
looking at them walking backwards.

Speaker 8 (01:32:01):
So of course there's a lot of tumbling around, there's
a lot of risks of falling. And then what happens
when we get to the end. We don't doubt, all right.

Speaker 4 (01:32:08):
Well we will be done here in just a few minutes,
rob so we'll just walk out. I'll grab some popcorn,
and see what happens when we get back, So try
not to get this swished.

Speaker 7 (01:32:16):
Are you yes?

Speaker 4 (01:32:18):
Are you okay?

Speaker 6 (01:32:21):
Now?

Speaker 4 (01:32:22):
Are you in the middle of the march? Are you
on the side? Where are you?

Speaker 9 (01:32:26):
I am at the front of the march and not
in the protesters, but I.

Speaker 8 (01:32:30):
Say, twenty feet from the human chain.

Speaker 6 (01:32:32):
That's predect.

Speaker 4 (01:32:33):
All right, So Rob, we'll catch up with you after
the show. Obviously we're going to have more because I
think they're protest scheduled every single day, and obviously we'll
find out what's going to go on with the protests
being permitted or not. But Robs, stay safe and come
find us when you get here.

Speaker 8 (01:32:50):
Okay, we'll do all right.

Speaker 4 (01:32:51):
That's Rob Dawson. He's outside the United Center right now
where we are inside the United Center and we're wrapping
up our first day hopefully tomorrow. Or I haven't seen
I haven't seen a ton of politicians. This is a
little bit different than the RNC was in that the
RNC media area was sort of full of roving politicians,

(01:33:15):
roving policy wonks, roving people that we're basically walking up
and saying, here's what we can talk about. It's a
little bit different but I also think that everybody's just
kind of getting here and getting their feet under them.
So in the next few days we'll see who we
can get what we do have over the course of
a week. Very happy to announce that Congressman Diana de
get is joining us. She is here. Congressman Jason Crowe

(01:33:37):
is joining us. He is here. Both Senators Hicketlooper and
Bennett will be joining us on Thursday. I believe I
think Jason Crow is going to join it, though Ben
and Hicketlooper a Wednesday. Jason Crow will be on Thursday.
We do have a baseball shortened show, so I'm not
sure how much time we're going to have after that,
but it's going to be an exciting week. We're at
the DNC. We're going to bring you all the protest

(01:33:59):
stuff and everything else. Mandy, if you dipped Rocky Mountain
oysters and some jalapeno raspberry preserves, you would change your
mind about whether or not kafkajones were a dessert or not.
Just saying you know what, I don't mind Rocky Mountain oysters.
I've eaten them on multiple occasions voluntarily, but as a dessert, no,
Just because you dip something in something sweet doesn't mean

(01:34:21):
it is dessert. That's not how this whole thing works.
A dessert needs to have that purpose initially, not be
converted into something else. It's funny. There's someone on the
text line who is super mad that I don't think
that Joe Biden is just a picture of physical fitness.
I'm sorry, I've seen too much evidence to the contrary.

(01:34:41):
They said he was just riding his bike last week.
First of all, you could train a bear to ride
a bicycle. Second of all, same bike he dropped off
of last year. I mean, come on, you guys. That's
like saying my grandpa can beat up your grandpa. It's
just dumb. It's a dumb thing to be mad about,
a dumb thing to be worried about. Mandy, it's Kamala.

(01:35:02):
Nobody wants to talk about her. I don't know why.
I'd love to talk to her. I'd love to talk
about her. I'd love to talk about her policy positions. Oh,
I see what you're saying. I understand. I got you
text her. I'm a little slow on the uptate because
I'm easily distracted and there's a lot of things here
to be distracted by that might be right? Maybe now

(01:35:25):
one last thing on the blog today that I want
to get to you, because this one leaves a mark,
and I meant to bring it up earlier, and I'm
just like I said, distracted by shiny things. Phil Donahue
has died. He was eighty eight years old. And when
I saw that. First of all, Phil Donahue was the
guy that really got the kind of talk show format

(01:35:47):
on television going. And when I was a kid, you'd
be sick and you'd be at home from school and
you'd have to watch Donahue first before Price Is Right
came on. So when you watch Donahue and then some
other something, and then Prices Right came on at least
in our market. And so I saw all kinds of
things on Donahue that I didn't see anywhere else. He
talked to everyone, and he'd bring on these people like

(01:36:11):
he brought on. I found a list of the best
of Donahue shows on YouTube, and the first one is
when he had the Club Kids on, and I was like,
oh my god, I remember that episode of Donahue. And
then in like nineteen ninety three ish somewhere around there,
he had Marilyn Manson on the show and he was
talking about devil worship or something I don't know, and

(01:36:32):
I was a flight attendant at the time, and I
watched the episode and I thought, well, that's an interesting guy, right,
That's kind of an interesting guy. But about three weeks
after that, I had a flight from Los Angeles to
New York and on boarding the flight, I was pulling
tickets as the flight attendant, and on walks Marilyn Manson

(01:36:54):
and he didn't have the makeup or anything on, and
I wasn't sure it was him, And so on the
flight I walked up and I said, Hey, were you
just on the Phil Donahue Show, And he was like, yes,
I was, And we ended up having a really nice
conversation for like half an hour about that, about that experience,
and I kept asking him about Phil Donahue, which I
think annoyed him because I cared more about Phil Donahue
than I cared about him. But it was just like

(01:37:17):
Phil was just a part of our lives and now
he's passed away at eighty eight. So there you go.
There you go. Get a rod to taste Taste Us,
a unique Chicago delicacy. So here's the food plans for
A Rod and I. Last night we walked by ed
de Bevicks, And if you've never heard of Eddabvicks, that

(01:37:38):
is where you go in and the servers actually insult
you the entire time you're in there. They'll make fun
of you, they'll criticize your food choices, will criticize their
own food. And A Rod was like, oh my god,
we have to go there. So we're going there. We
are going to get an Italian beef sandwich because that
is like my favorite Chicago food more than the pizza.
Even love the Italian beef sandwich. So we're gonna get

(01:38:01):
these specific kinds of food. We just don't know where
we're getting them at. So we're gonna do all that stuff.
So I appreciate you guys asking, but I'm trying to
get a Rod out of his you know, out of
his limited palette that the man has, and it is
very very limited. All right, friends, it is about time
to wrap up our first show at the DNC, and

(01:38:22):
I just want to remind you guys again, this is
all possible because my friend Spike McCarthy at Golden Spike
Roofing sponsored this coverage if you need anything in roofing,
they do an absolutely outstanding job and stand behind their work.
Visit goldenspikeroofing dot com. We're gonna be back tomorrow to
continue setting the tail or table for you. We're gonna
go out. Let's go try and talk to some delegates

(01:38:44):
out there, Aaron, We're gonna go get some delegate interviews.
We'll play some of those. By the way, if you're
not following our social media, you are already missing out

I'm frustrated with Facebook right now. I'm sick of them.
I'm so over Facebook. I just want to be down

(01:39:06):
with me both. I know it's been a bit tough
trying to get Facebook to show you guys any of
our content is impossible. So either go to our Facebook
page at Koa, Colorado, or follow us on Instagram and
Twitter where they were actually show you our posts.

Speaker 4 (01:39:32):
Rest of the week exactly all right, friends, we're going
to turn this over to KOA Sports. I'm guessing they're
going to have some words about the big win yesterday
over the Green Bay Packers. Second string. I don't care.
If it's second string we want, I'm taking it. We'll
be back tomorrow. Keep it right here on KOA
