Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're breaking up, Bob.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Oh, well the game is over.

Speaker 3 (00:13):
Like that.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
That's okay, great radio. Let's go. Let's go, everybody, let's go.
Good morning. I'm a kid. I can't do you're in
the pasta Oh my god, hold on to you all

(00:48):
right now, let's get on with it.

Speaker 4 (00:50):
It is a Northern Fire Talker Tuesday, good morning talkbacks
with a prize, talkbacks with a prize, some Texas tea.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
She'll switch tomorrow.

Speaker 4 (00:59):
This due goes noon to three from the exclusive Minnesota
Vikings Radio Network perch overlooking the practice fields at TCOPC
noon to three tomorrow for nine to noon, and we
begin with Florio.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
Florio. You can write what you want. It's okay.

Speaker 4 (01:19):
Northern fire Talker Tuesday with talkbacks and some gentle reminders
of some things I think me are being overshadowed with
Kyler and JJ and JJ and Kyler and patent to
twenty twenty six Pittreol on social media. This topic needs
to be milked for everything it has right now, because

(01:43):
by the time they kick off Saturday versus the Giants,
the bit may be dead and buried. I'll preach and
contend zero chance they head into the ravens joints without
a defined first quarterback on the depth chart, and I'm

(02:05):
sticking to it. The strips Emily Leiker laid out that
point perfectly yesterday nine to noon with Nordo excellent addition
to the stable by the way, she's super sharp. A
Northern fire talker Tuesday with a prize and the scribe
Ben Geslin is here at ten o'clock two a days
get us to the Lambeau game and the forty nine Ers.

(02:29):
That's in the final hour of the presentation. Key stretch
of the season for the Minnesota Vikings. No matter who's
slinging the rock, Bill's on Monday night here short weekend
to Lambeau and Micah will be making many a play
at that juncture. Then McCaffrey and his squad are here

(02:50):
two a days later, two day now with our squad.
The majority of people absolutely are not tired of the
local QB talk. Some wake up looking to do a
social media spike of a ball on takes opposite theirs.

(03:10):
It's part of the game for those who choose to
follow and don't hate the game, because very soon a
decision could be announced and the game will be over.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
Don't hate the game.

Speaker 4 (03:29):
The gentle perhaps overshadowed reminders.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
The context.

Speaker 4 (03:38):
The pass by pass, win by win, rep by rep
tallies are fine, and so is the take like quote,
neither quarterback has been consistent enough a training camp to
brag about, end to quote, people expect the the ten

(03:59):
of ten drama social media can create, and the pods
and the aggregators and the obscure dot coms wouldn't do
it if it weren't working. And I can respect that,
especially given we all work and live in the inflationary squeeze.

(04:21):
So I see what they're doing here, and I kind
of respect it, and many takes her truth.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
Many takes her truth.

Speaker 4 (04:30):
Quarterbacks, they both very much have had wow moments, interception owls,
sacks they shouldn't have taken, in decisiveness and quick twitch
solid decisions all over the field.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
So the first gentle reminder.

Speaker 4 (04:50):
The same was true mid training camps for Kirk Cousins
and Sam Darnold. Just a gentle reminder floor as though.
Now granted those guys are or were better than Kyler
and JJ, but let's not forget the angst, teeth gnashing

(05:10):
and concern many had with those two right about this time,
right about this time of the get ready for the
real thing equation. And that's truth and that's fact. Norvin
Zimmer used to do the same thing. It's called bludgeoning
the other side. When Vikings defenders pick off a pass,

(05:35):
they ain't out there throwing a pity party because they're
concerned how the quarterback situation is developing.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
They want to perfect what they are doing and have had.

Speaker 4 (05:45):
More than a few moments where ty Felton and others
have made big, big, big plays on them. For that
to happen, it's either Kyler or McCarthy throwing the ball.

Speaker 2 (05:59):
That's part of the content.

Speaker 4 (06:01):
So just a gentle love covenant reminder to those with
open hearts and open ears. If you just don't like
or trust JJ McCarthy, that's fine. If you don't want
or trust Kyler Murray, that's fine too, But please keep

(06:21):
the contextual nature of what's transpiring in mind. It could
be argued mid training camp twenty twenty two through twenty
twenty four, Cousins and Darnald went through the same grinder
and came out of it and find fettle, and the
same will be true here now. Bike up, fairness and

(06:45):
caveat act. That is, unless with these guys the routine
is not being made routine and the ugly stuff is
happening with things that should be remedial. That's why we
got describe it ten o'clock watch is more practice than me.
If that's the case, well, if that's the case and

(07:07):
the routine is not being made routine and the remedial
is a struggle, the head coach is going to lose
sleep and his mind won't be that of quiet again.
Mashing on this hard now because the fat, rich, juicy, polarizing,
popular Murray MacArthur McCarthy and who starts in why chat

(07:33):
might be coming to a conclusion soon. Another gentle, contextually sound,
subtle reminder if the inconsistencies of the two be name
starter leak into the season Flores in the Vikings defense,

(07:54):
the running game has looked excellent all camp, and the
defense is one of the most formidable in the league,
and everybody knows it. Those facets can take heat off
a quarterback.

Speaker 2 (08:09):
You may have to raise during the regular season.

Speaker 4 (08:12):
Emphasis on may have to like, consider the game at
Looman last year, right, all right, you got shut out
by the eventual champs we know that, So what's the
context that ties into this conversation. Rosmer got the start

(08:33):
and it was tough, tough sledding, didn't even have Darisol. Still,
the score was three zero middle second quarter, three zero
Chickens middle second quarter. That's with your third quarterback starting
and one of the best left tackles in the NFL

(08:53):
not playing yet the champion Chickens middle of the second.

Speaker 2 (08:57):
Quarter led three zero.

Speaker 4 (09:03):
Seattle didn't score an offensive touchdown until nine minutes left
in the game. Grenard played like fifteen percent of the game.
Jay Ward had to cover Jackson Smith and Jigba when
Rogers had to leave, and JSN didn't have.

Speaker 2 (09:20):
A catch, and Darnald was bad.

Speaker 5 (09:26):
That game flow put him on a bad game at Seattle.

Speaker 4 (09:30):
And it's part of the subtle, gentle reminders of how
to analyze the Minnesota Vikings quarterback situation. Cousins and Darnald
faced very much the same commentary of the stage of
the equation. Now, if the easy is not being made easy,
and the remedi remedial is not remedial, and the routine

(09:53):
is not routine, all right, we're gonna have to hear
that and learn that and I guess that, and that
would be a problem. Running games have been known to
take heat off running back off quarterbacks. Defenses have been
known to take pressure off quarterbacks. That's part of the context,
whether you like it or not. These coaches here are

(10:13):
super smart. Man O'Connell can design things to protect the
quarterback if needed, and Flores Flores can take heat off
the offense during said process by doing his thing. And
now with Caleb Banks who might have some superstar to him.

Speaker 2 (10:33):
So yes, it at.

Speaker 4 (10:36):
Times has been an absolute trudge for Kyler the creator
and JJ McCarthy, but let's be reminded of the fair,
balanced and accurate contextual nature of the chat. It mostly
was the same case for high Enders, Cousins and Darnold.
The running game is designed to help with this, and

(10:58):
Brian Flores still runs the d defense talented bunch with
a lot of speed and a defensive line push we
haven't seen here in a while. At least that's the expectation.
We could add this to it too, in craving, seeing, executing,

(11:18):
learning new things. I was chatting with wide receiver Juwan
Jennings the other day and told him, in all my
years calling Minnesota Vikings football. I've never heard defensive backs
off microphones away from scribes. I've never heard defensive backs

(11:40):
talk about keeping the head on the swivel when Jennings
heads their way the way they do. Why because he's
the most physical wide receiver in the NFL and.

Speaker 2 (11:52):
Has had.

Speaker 4 (11:53):
He's been that way since the likes of hinz Ward Hof,
Larry Fitzgererld Junior and Kwam Bolden used to roam the field.

Speaker 2 (12:03):
And that's truth.

Speaker 4 (12:07):
And like those other guys, he can catch, I mean
might not be able to, you know, like Larry Fitzgerald Junior,
hjof might not be blessing with the catching and run
after catching everything. But nevertheless it's I in two and
a half decades of being next to this team, I
have never heard defensive back say some things that they

(12:27):
say about Juwan Jennings when he's running in the middle
of the field looking to knock that swivel right off
those shoulders. And that's part of the context too, when
it comes to the quarterbacks and how you can raise
them and what's to be expected or if and or
when emphasis on when a decision is made, I mean

(12:51):
with Juwan Jennings state of hockey family, State of hockey family.
Consider this, think middle of the eye, head down and
the potential ramifications that come with it. That's what Juwan
Jennings does in gentle, in gentle, low key fashion here

(13:14):
because be't gonna knock the head off in legal fashion
of one of his teammates.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
But when we.

Speaker 4 (13:20):
Start with that regular season, just keep this conversation in
mind because Jennings is one of them. Ward Fitzgerald Junior
Bolden with pads on the DBS here and a green Bay. Well,
they're thinking about that with Juwan Jennings, which plays into

(13:43):
the how do you take the pressure off whoever the
quarterback is whenever the announcement is made. This guy's out
there looking to light up somebody, and we haven't had
somebody like that in a long long time. There's by
far more good than bad with the twenty twenty six

(14:03):
Minnesota Vikings to this part of the equation, and we
are here to exchange thought via talkbacks today, quarterback conversation polarizing. Ay,
you better get into that quarterback talker now just in
case it comes to a conclusion relatively soon. It's fat,
rich and juicy, and it's polarizing and you'll love it. Thus,

(14:27):
we have the talkback machine via the pre iHeartRadio app.
Get on in with those talkbacks. It's a Tuesday staple.
You're more than welcome to attempt to take me deep
if you are so inclined. If you don't like or
trust McCarthy, please share why Anything Kyler Murray related always

(14:48):
is accepted, Anything team related always is accepted. It's a
Northern Fire Talker Tuesday and that's what we do. Rumor
has it we have a prize that'll be given away
to a talkback and here's the con Yeah, big thanks

(16:37):
we can step away from just the QB conversation. Talkbacks
are coming in, by the way, thank you for those,
and keep them coming because we're going to get those
going in mass next segment on the quarterback situation.

Speaker 2 (16:48):
But just in.

Speaker 5 (16:48):
General, you're hanging out at TCO Field. Everyone's having a blast.
It's the night practice, bright lights, TCO Stadium. Anything in
particular stand out to you amid the fun and all
the fans around it.

Speaker 4 (16:59):
Not really the parts that I was watching. A lot
of conversing takes place from the sideline, sneaky chats, I
can be qualified that way. But the defense stood out
to me. But there were good There were good and
and middling moments for the quarterbacks. Most importantly, packed house

(17:21):
crowd seem to be having a really good time buyer
work show after the introduction is super cool and all
the Billies and Johnny's and Christie's and SUSY's and Tamika
and Antoine's were all wide eyed.

Speaker 5 (17:32):
Prior to the night practice, Kevin O'Connell speaking to the media,
here's what he had to say about Max Brettison.

Speaker 3 (17:37):
There's different types of players, right, and there's very few
that are you know, can sit in the meeting room.
Don't need you know, walk through reps, don't need a
rep of it to then start applying their own high
level awareness that we know they have. But sometimes it
takes a little time depending on the position. He's already
shown you know, he can apply that, and then I
think it's been great seeing the physical side of it

(17:58):
because you just you know, you just have or know
from a standpoint of the different types of runs we're doing.

Speaker 2 (18:03):
You guys have seen it.

Speaker 3 (18:04):
We're asking to do a lot a lot of different
alignments and movements and things like that, and then he's
still able. He's always been really good getting fit in
space on blocks, but he's also been a really physical
presence for us to help get runs started.

Speaker 5 (18:18):
I'm so excited for Saturday at noon, PA, You're going
to be on site. I'm going to be back here
at three. Ron Johnson and I will be doing a
little shorty fan line after that first preseason game.

Speaker 2 (18:28):
But I can't wait. Even if it's just even if
it's just like a.

Speaker 5 (18:32):
Little nibble, a little appetizer, just one singular triske it
that I can enjoy before the game start counting and
the full bits unveiled. I just want to see run game.
I want to see how Brettison is deployed in various spots.
Maybe the big guy can catch one out of the
backfield and find himself six seven, eight twelve yards. That's

(18:53):
one of the things I'm really pumped about for Saturday.

Speaker 2 (18:56):
Yeah, he caught up.

Speaker 4 (18:57):
Brettison caught one Sunday night where it wasn't really thrown
to him on time.

Speaker 2 (19:03):
I mean it was on time.

Speaker 4 (19:04):
But I can't remember if it was a little low
or a little high, but it just wasn't in the
bread basket.

Speaker 2 (19:09):
You had to adjust. I saw a highlight up.

Speaker 4 (19:11):
Yeah, yeah, there was an adjustment required, and he did that,
snatched it and turned up nicely. And you can just
tell when they do that that.

Speaker 2 (19:20):
The kid graves contact.

Speaker 4 (19:22):
I mean he's looking to lower his shoulder pads and
run through somebody. There's some heat seeking missile to Max Bredison. However, Saturday,
when it comes to his inclusion, yes, I absolutely expect
his inclusion.

Speaker 2 (19:35):
But I think for.

Speaker 4 (19:36):
Those who you know, those who go to training camp,
and you know, those who are watching more than social
media eclipse, I'm pretty sure what you're gonna see Saturday
is a lot of what you see at Vikings practice.

Speaker 2 (19:50):
So you know.

Speaker 4 (19:51):
There are times you see Brettison a lot go in motion,
but what they do with it from there, tied to Jennings,
tied to a runout the hash marks, I'm not expecting
to see a lot of that. Uh and but but see,
there are gonna be moments in this game Saturday where
you know, like if the Vikings second offensive line is

(20:12):
going against the Giants' second defense and you get the
right block at the right time in the right run
and Claiborne demon Claiborne, he gets a seam. Well, I
mean he's gonna take off and there're gonna be some
jitterbugs like moves and trying to make people miss and
stuff like that that that I'm looking forward to. But this, this,

(20:34):
let's not forget this is the Vanilla of all vanilla
ever to vanilla, but Max Brettison. When when the Green
Bay Packers come to town, Juwan Jennings with all that
stuff that I'm starting to hear a little bit low
key from some people. Now, now that that's where the
rubber meets the road, that's where chin straps are going
to need to be buckled on the Green and gold

(20:56):
side of the equation because these guys are fixing the
knock heads off fikes vites.

Speaker 2 (21:02):
Brought to you by Ken Mount Exteriors.

Speaker 5 (21:05):
Jamal Adams pa changing his number and maybe there's a
reversion to safety new Swiss Army knife. Is he playing
a Josh Mattelis type role? Can you box him up right?
What are your thoughts and just what you've seen and
heard of Jamal since he's actually gotten here.

Speaker 4 (21:22):
Yes, Sunday night is by far the closest that I've
ever been to him. I don't get into the locker
room much of this year is just this time of
the year is just too crowded. So I've seen Jamal
Adams through the binoculars wearing the five to four. I've
seen him now wearing the three to two, and Chaz
Chambliss goes to fifty seven, the Audie call number. So

(21:46):
I was probably two three feet away from him the
other night for a fair amount of the practice. And
the thickness is real. I mean he is absolutely physically sculpted.
When I caught the news that he's going to be
He's going to be listed as a safety without reading
between the lines too much and Brian Flores speaks during

(22:08):
our nine to Noon A noon to three Extravaganza tomorrow,
So I would imagine somebody from the media is going
to ask him about Adams and the position a designation.
I'll be curious to hear what he says, because I'm
not willing to marry myself to exactly what he's going
to do if he makes the team, because this still,

(22:29):
in my estimation, is very much a prove it one
year deal and he has to prove that that not
only he deserves to play, but he deserves to be
on the team. I bet that he's on the team.
But when you have the designation as safety, then what
does that mean for the inside linebackers? Is somebody is
somebody sticking out so much with the inside linebackers or

(22:53):
the edge guys, or are they pondering bringing in an
edge guy where they need the number for the final
fifty three in one of those spots. And then you
get to the safety part of the equation, and if
he makes the team, you know, instead of rostering, you know,
like for the fifty three six safeties. Just I'm curious

(23:14):
to see how they're going to handle this from a
depth standpoint, but that that was noteworthy that we have
a position designation change for Adams. It just writing discernment
if if he gets here and then you start talking
a lot about the inside linebacker bit and the way

(23:35):
the defensive coordinator potentially can use him, and then we
have a position designation change.

Speaker 2 (23:42):
Is that good or bad?

Speaker 4 (23:44):
And how does that reflect on him or how does
it reflect on others?

Speaker 2 (23:50):
And like why did it happen? I'm just curious now.

Speaker 5 (23:53):
That's how I read through it myself, because my next
question to you would be is it a guarantee that
he makes the team? And you went down that road yourself,
and I'm glad you did, because is this an indictment
of what Flow is or is not getting from the
safety room? Is it an indictment of what Jamal is
or isn't working? And it doesn't have to be an
indictment by the way he could be showing out. He

(24:14):
could be absolutely doing everything that he needs to do.
But I remember during the Zimmer days, man we'd have
I mean, it felt like there was a one way
ticket from Cincinnati to Minneapolis for safeties and dbs that
Zimmer might have in for a couple of weeks. Oh hey,
look that's is what was it Reggie Nelson maybe or
Chris Crocker that found their way to to training camp

(24:36):
in man Cato as tryouts, as prove its, and in
most cases they didn't work out. But Jamal, the number change,
the position change potentially notable.

Speaker 4 (24:46):
Well, you see, people from other defensive positions can cost
people roster spots in other words, like from a defensive
line standpoint. Okay, just without the roster in front of me.
We know Redmond Banks, Citrus Levy, Drake Rodriguez, Tye Ingram Dawkins.

Speaker 2 (25:10):
We know they're in the mix. Yes, So that gets
you to five.

Speaker 4 (25:14):
All right, I happen to have a former Pittsburgh Steeler,
Isaiah Laudermil sixty nine.

Speaker 2 (25:20):
I have him making the team.

Speaker 4 (25:22):
Now there's a guy who played fifty one games, mostly
for Indianapolis and the statistical Wherewithal.

Speaker 2 (25:30):
Was not great? Is that that Eric Johnson cat Eric Johnson.

Speaker 4 (25:33):
The second he's throwing people around and he's really really
trying hard to make this act of fifty three. I mean,
he's looked really really good. So if under the cover
of darkness, you came into it thinking that this group
is going to make it here. But then a couple
of veterans have opened your eyes so much that you're like,

(25:54):
if we put them on the practice squad, we're probably
going to lose one, but you know what, I want
him on the team. Well, then that gets into somebody
else's mix where you need to omit somebody from another
position group, maybe even on offense. Secondly, when it comes
to inside linebackers, there there's a there's a first year

(26:16):
guy from Wake Forest named Jacob Roberts. He wears forty eight.
I would imagine he's going to play a lot this Saturday.
Preseason games generally don't win roster spots. That's done behind
the scenes of training camp. And and like Emily Likers
stressed a lot with you yesterday and nine to noon
to shared it before these joint practices against the Ravens.

(26:38):
I mean these are massive, they're they're all of almost
if not all, of the fifty three roster spots, and most,
if not all of the practice squad spots will be
settled after these Ravens joint practices. Then you got the
game against the Ravens. Then he got the game against
the Broncos. But somebody like Jacob Roberts, who many people

(27:01):
haven't heard of and really don't follow. I mean, he
has more of a puncher's chance to make this act
of fifty three than I thought before. I had no
idea what his name was or who he was. So
somebody like that, and from a safety standpoint, you got
Jacoby Thomas, but you also have thirty nine Jacob Thomas.
Now Jacob Thomas, he's really splashed at times during training camp,

(27:26):
so I got to keep him in mind a little
bit as a fringe guy who's trying to bump somebody
to the practice squad or just right out of the covenant.
So those are things developing right now.

Speaker 5 (27:36):
Fike spites Kinmount Exteriors dot Com. A little birdie has
told me that Dallas Turner is turning up the heat.

Speaker 2 (27:45):
Pa.

Speaker 5 (27:45):
If Dallas Turner was a stock, would he be trending upward?

Speaker 2 (27:50):
Would he be trending downwards?

Speaker 5 (27:52):
Sell selled, get out while you still have your initial
investment or are we just chilling?

Speaker 2 (27:58):
We just stable here? Were we with number fifteen?

Speaker 5 (28:01):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (28:01):
It's it would be one of those stocks that, like
I'm not going to my each rate account and taking
a peek at every hour I'm just gonna let it.
I'm just I'm just gonna I'm gonna let it grow
or I'm gonna let it stabilize with Turner there, they're
some of my one of my favorite drills during practice.

(28:22):
They did Sunday night during the night practice, and it's
the pass rushers one on one with the offensive lineman.
It's honestly, you could charge admission for Van Ginkle versus
Brian O'Neil and people would actually pay because it is
high end, two bona fide leaders, completely healthy, completely gifted,

(28:45):
just absolutely going at it. I mean, it's so much
fun to watch forty three versus seventy five. One wins
one battle, one wins the other, and they like tap
each other's helmets and go back and do their thing. Turner,
when he gets involved in these one on ones, it's
from what I've seen, and I have not seen every
Dallas Turner one on one, So this would be FIKA

(29:07):
Fairness and Context Act, and we got to describe here
in thirty minutes. When I watch Dallas, he's either getting
stood up and not getting there or he's absolutely.

Speaker 2 (29:18):
Running around somebody and getting there.

Speaker 4 (29:21):
So it's Dallas Turner is one of the absolute, very
most important keys to this twenty twenty six Minnesota Vikings equation.
If I'm a defensive coordinator and I'm looking at this defense,
well yeah, I mean, I've heard everything about Kleb Banks.
I may have watched some of Kala Banks on the
social media eclipse that Rude Nation puts out there, and

(29:42):
I've seen what people are hearing, and they tell us
the foot is healthy, and everybody in the NFL knows
if the foot is healthy. With this guy, the Vikings
more than likely hit on somebody big time. But I'm
not doubling him every single play until he shows me
he knows how to play the game. So then I

(30:03):
look over at forty three, Well, I mean that he's
getting a double. Okay, he's he's not wrecking the game,
because Van Ginkle wrecks games. So I don't envision Dallas
Turner getting double teamed or significantly chipped a ton until
he shows if you don't double me, I'm going to
ruin your day. And if and or win he starts

(30:27):
doing that, and maybe it's right out of the gate,
maybe he starts commanding doubles from I don't know, Morgan
and Josh Jacobs has to chip him, or to Tucker
Craft has to chip him before he goes out on
the route. That's nothing but good news for Minnesota Vikings
fans because if Turner is double worthy, then you can't

(30:47):
double gink all the time. What are you going to
do with the A gap with Banks? And if you
go to the wrong guy, Cashman can sack the quarterback.
So the Dallas Turner portion of the equation is so
oh massive.

Speaker 5 (31:01):
Here Bikes Bites learn about the clear quote promise at
Kenmount Exteriors dot com.

Speaker 2 (31:07):
PA.

Speaker 5 (31:07):
This is going to kind of blend into as we
wrap up Bikes Bites and we go into the talkbacks
for which there are many that conversation in relation to
the quarterbacks. Do you think that the QB situation is
potentially at all distracting to others in that locker room.
It may have started out as we're doing drills. I'm

(31:29):
doing my thing. What was it, Jefferson? It doesn't matter
to me. I'm just I'm going out there and I'm
doing my practice right. But now we're two weeks into
it and we're still kind of creating that balancing act
in practice. Do you think it's potentially at all distracting
to some of the others around it at this.

Speaker 2 (31:45):
Stage ten of ten.

Speaker 3 (31:47):
No.

Speaker 4 (31:48):
And here's why, because they just don't think that way.
They don't operate that way. Like I said in the
opening segment, you know, if when there's an interception thrown
by Murray or McCarthy, whether it's in the moment on
the sideline or in the locker room, the defense is
not throwing pity parties for the Vikings quarterback situation or

(32:08):
like whispering to each other, dog we're in trouble, or dog,
we're really onto something. Here is everybody is so focused
on what they have to do, specifically those who are
new here, that they don't have time to make it
a distraction. Now, Jefferson, I heard what Jefferson said. You know,
I want to take the discerning ear back to something

(32:32):
nine to Noon has shared over the last month month
and change that.

Speaker 2 (32:36):
You know.

Speaker 4 (32:36):
I ran into somebody in the off season who's very
significant with this covenant, and it was a It was
at a situation where you know, you're not going to
be talking a lot of Vikings football, so I didn't.
But somehow the quarterback situation between Mini camp and training
camp came up and I said something, and this person
whose opinion matters said to me, I don't care who

(32:59):
the quarterback is. I'm so excited for this running game
that I can't wait for the regular season to start.
So that is a that that's a bonafide captain within
the covenant, that that's a bonafide somebody. And this, this,
this take should matter to this individual because of what

(33:21):
they do, and I've now heard it multiple times, is
some people just don't care because there are ways to
take heat off the quarterback if you have to raise
him during the season. But but just again, gentle reminder,
and when when Ben gets here, I'm really excited to
talk to him about this. If if the if the

(33:43):
simple is not being made simplistic, if the remedial is
not turning out to be remedial, well then yes there
could legitimately be a problem. I don't see it that way,
and I don't hear it that way. In fact, for
for for the discerning ear, eye or heart, it's mostly

(34:03):
exactly what Cousins and Darnald went through twenty twenty two
to twenty twenty four. And it got loud then and
there were polarizing opinions on social media, mostly about Cousins
that went back to twenty twenty.

Speaker 2 (34:19):
So you know, they're a fair amount.

Speaker 4 (34:21):
Of people who shipped all in on some Darnald and Cousins'
opinions this time of the year and we're blatantly wrong. Yeah,
well that's happening now with Murray and McCarthy. And the
only way to settle the bet is to play the
games and see how that stock matures and what they're

(34:42):
able to do around it while said investment is maturing.

Speaker 2 (34:47):
Is there could there be an argument made.

Speaker 5 (34:49):
PA that yes, there are parallels to Cousins and to
Sam Darnold, but in both of those cases they were
getting the vast majority of the number one rep.

Speaker 2 (35:00):
Right point, and so throughout k that's a good point.

Speaker 5 (35:02):
You know, JJ kind of lit it up after that
early pick in the Raiders game.

Speaker 2 (35:06):
Couple of tds.

Speaker 5 (35:07):
There's some buzz and then he go south and then
Donald really didn't state hadn't established himself yet.

Speaker 2 (35:13):
No, really good point.

Speaker 5 (35:14):
But it was those joints in Cleveland mid August, and
so definite parallels. But in fairness to those opportunities, they
were getting the lion share of the one reps and
the focus they were, they were kind of already the
number one chosen QB of the.

Speaker 4 (35:30):
Season, right, So contextually speaking, that that shines more poorly
on Donald and Cousins than it does Murray McCarthy.

Speaker 2 (35:39):
So let me get this straight.

Speaker 4 (35:41):
I mean, you've done all this and you had that
grade twenty nineteen, and for Cousins and with Donald you
were the high pick, and eventually you're going to win
the Super Bowl. You're getting all the reps and still
can't figure it out. And we're gonna hammer on these
kids cutting the reps and they can't figure it out. Yeah,
just think it out a little bit. Let's just I mean,
just what I just said is not going to happen.
I shouldn't even breath. But I mean, if you could

(36:02):
just think it out a little bit, think it out
a little bit. And Nordo brought up a great point.
It makes it even more difficult when it's a fifty
five to forty five from a reps count standpoint. One
guy has never been associated with being a scholar of
the game, and he's here learning it and the other
the others in his third year and he has plenty

(36:23):
of things on which he has to work against. A
defense that runs schemes that kept the Chickens to three
points offensive points middle of the second quarter, and they
didn't get their offensive touchdown first offensive touchdowns on nine
minutes ago in the game. Yeah, that's what they're facing.
That is what they're facing. This matters in the conversation Roubes.

(36:46):
This matters in the conversation. Not the context matters. But
I got this microphone and an opportunity to share it
and to say, yes, this is the reality of what
they're facing.

Speaker 2 (36:58):
The running game.

Speaker 4 (36:59):
They had to protect them and we're not seeing the
full plate of what's out there. It's it's I don't
sense panic, anxiety or over and over a just a
large amount of frustration from those behind the scenes in

(37:21):
the know with where the situation is. Now.

Speaker 2 (37:24):
Okay, that's good.

Speaker 4 (37:25):
Now there are there have been some moments, you know,
there have been some moments where am I gonna put this?
There have been some moments where I've left wondering is
the simple not being made simplistic?

Speaker 2 (37:39):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (37:40):
You know, is the like let's just take example that
Brettison completion we talked about earlier, and you must have
seen it.

Speaker 2 (37:48):
On social media.

Speaker 4 (37:50):
I didn't, but I remember it that It just there
was an adjustment required on what looked to be an
easy dump pass where you think you can get six,
but you got a bee feeder and it might be eleven.

Speaker 2 (38:03):
It wasn't fluid.

Speaker 4 (38:04):
Now, if that consistently is happening, where you know you
have easy plays and just pitching catch and there's no
way Zaire Franklin can get there in time to stop
this eight yard game. And there are a bunch of
those plays all throughout the season, and it's behind somebody

(38:25):
or they got to leave their feet to get it
then come down and try to run, or it's down
by the knees. If that consistently is the case, then yes,
there is a problem.

Speaker 2 (38:36):
It needs to be fixed.

Speaker 4 (38:38):
And I mean the student body left in the countertray
running action might be a little more in vogue here
in Minnesota than I and others expected.

Speaker 5 (38:49):
All Right, my last thing for you, fikes, fits can
mount exteriors.

Speaker 2 (38:53):
You know Kao's talking to Apa, is he kay? I
think Kao might be talking.

Speaker 5 (38:58):
I thought Thursday was the first time I was talking.
Could be I just want to verify I got it.
I got the updated media. I had a yesterday.

Speaker 2 (39:05):
Let me see here. Okay, what day is it today?

Speaker 5 (39:07):
We got KO today, Kevin O'Connell at one pm.

Speaker 2 (39:10):
Excellent. Why not just announce QB one today?

Speaker 4 (39:14):
What do you think?

Speaker 5 (39:14):
PA announces QB one and they get the lion's share
of the reps and we all move forward to a
fun game and met life on Saturday.

Speaker 2 (39:22):
I wouldn't count on it, damn.

Speaker 4 (39:25):
What I am excited to learn eventually is what they're
gonna do with the quarterbacks and the Giants game. I mean,
I just want to see Kyler Murray and JJ McCarthy
behind the same offensive line with the same skill. Guys
get like one or two series each, Yeah, just to
see what it looks like. There was there was almost

(39:48):
one of those breathtaking Kyler Murray runs on Sunday night,
But my man didn't put the pedal to the metal.
Why saving it. There's no need to show that or
potentially pop something or tweak something when you're in training camp.

Speaker 5 (40:03):
I did see one though, where he he felt the
pressure and he was weaving and there was a hole
that opened up and it just scampered into the end zone.

Speaker 2 (40:10):
I did see that from the night practice.

Speaker 4 (40:12):
Right, and you know the the layering of passes that
we hear so much about the layering, and I had
to be taught with this man. I thought layering was
kind of like short intermediate long. It actually involves velocity
with passes, where the layering of it is, Hey, give
us the change up here, give us the two seamer, here,

(40:34):
little touch, all right, it's time to.

Speaker 2 (40:35):
Give us the Nolan Ryan.

Speaker 4 (40:36):
It's a fifty to fifty throw at eighteen to let
him make a play. So the layering with McCarthy Sunday night,
I thought was terrific. Not everything was perfect, but you know,
I set it into camp. He still has that four
steamer though, doesn't it big time? It loves it too.
Now it's I set it into camp and I stick
with it. It may not happen, but big Boy's not

(40:58):
going to go down without a five.

Speaker 2 (41:00):
And it's interesting.

Speaker 4 (41:02):
You know, McCarthy had a couple of rough days of
practice according to social media and some of the no
who cover the team, But the next two practices he
had some lights out to him.

Speaker 2 (41:12):
I mean he came out there and just tore it up.

Speaker 4 (41:16):
Well, that's analogous to the career he's had and that
has to stop. And that's why I stress and emphasize
the word consistent is consistently. We haven't seen a ton
of good consistently, there hasn't been a ton of bad.
It's just kind of been herky jerky, topsy turvy. Hey,

(41:39):
look at Ty, get behind, Isaiah Rodgers own no Jefferson
wide open on a shallow cross and somebody went to
Yoshi Nishioka on it?

Speaker 2 (41:48):
Why? How? Why? You know? It's maybe they felt the
floors pressure.

Speaker 4 (41:53):
It's there's so much that goes into this, Yeah, but
it's just a subtle, gentle remind I feel needs to
be shared. Cousins and Darnold went through the same thing
while getting all the reps, and they still had some
struggle with it. The Ravens Joints are going to settle
a lot of bets and those bad boys are eight

(42:15):
days away, super excited for it.

Speaker 5 (42:18):
Vikes White's brought to you by kN Mood Exteriors, Kinmount
Exteriors dot Com.

Speaker 4 (42:22):
It is a Northern Fire talkback Talker Tuesday, and we
have some spots for those talkbacks with a Northern Fire
prize to be given away later that comes up around
the corner. Just another reminder, this radio show is noon

the Ten of Fits, So ten of Fitzgerald goes nine

(42:46):

Vikings Radio Network perch at Twin Cities Orthopedics Performance Center.
At noon, Mike Florio joins the equation and following walkthrough
Minnesota Vikings offensive line coach Carter will be in the
equation likewise for Dane Mizhutani, who covers the team for

(43:06):
the Pioneer Press.

Speaker 2 (43:07):
That's tomorrow. What up with today? Your talkbacks? Next? Dounk kfam.
If you're listening live to.

Speaker 5 (43:15):

twenty five dollars gift card to Northern Fire. He can

Heavy conversation today. But then also there's.

Speaker 2 (43:32):
This pay I'm at work. I gotta make this quick.

Speaker 5 (43:35):
What do you feel about the DNR's sixth limit to
possible six limit to three limit duck proposal for the
new duck season I believe it's this season. Let me
know any comments on the DNR and new duck limits
this year.

Speaker 2 (43:48):
Great question.

Speaker 4 (43:49):
Thought about it a lot this morning, went to Daffy
has all the answers dot Biz.

Speaker 2 (43:54):
Didn't have time to read it. I'll have a report
for you tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (43:59):
Morning.

Speaker 6 (44:00):
Guys Tyler here, I think either quarterback could be just fine.
The only reason I don't trust JJ is he got
hurt two or three times on the plane last year.

Speaker 2 (44:12):
Come on, man.

Speaker 6 (44:13):
O'Connell could also help either quarterback out by running the ball,
especially in the red zone.

Speaker 4 (44:23):
Well, the latter has been an emphasis this training camp,
and O'Connell's talked about it a lot this offseason, all
the way back to the Combine, where one of the
first things he said with this little sneaky table chat
with some background information chair is that he wants the
running He wants the running game to be a vertical

(44:44):
wide zone, which means you get wide, you get the
right blocks with bulls on parade, and boom, somebody hits
it and gets vertical. So those are the expectations, and
Frank Smith is here to help with things like that. Likewise,
for offensive line coach Keith Carter, who was the assistant

(45:05):
last year, and he has experience in this scheme, I
believe with Frank Smith, so that's kind of a sneaky
tidbit that they believe is going to help from a
quarterback situations. That's an a topic with JJ McCarthy until
it isn't is if and or when you do play
can they count on you to play game after game

(45:26):
after game after game after game because we and it
sounds childlike, and we certainly don't mean it in subservient
or immature like fashion, but play leaf play leaf, play leaf,
play leaf, play leaf sounds like.

Speaker 2 (45:41):
A playground game. You just you can't have it.

Speaker 4 (45:44):
You can't have that period, but especially with your quarterback talkbacks.

Speaker 1 (45:49):
Hey Pa Heynordo, good morning, Good morning. This is Elliott
from Iowa. Either quarterback. I mean, the report's coming out
of camp doesn't seem like any any one of them
is blowing anyone away. At this point, I'd probably trust
the veteran or the young kid. But if Kyler comes

(46:09):
out in the season and doesn't look great, don't be
afraid to jump to JJ or even to Carson. Because
Carson didn't look bad last year until he got hurt.

Speaker 4 (46:17):
Well that, I mean, I understand what you're saying, and
you know the the everybody wants one quarterback for the
entire season.

Speaker 2 (46:26):
I think it was Superstats Dave Dave Handling.

Speaker 4 (46:29):
So somebody asked me a kind of a cool question
at Canterbury over the weekend and it was which quarterback
finishes the season?

Speaker 2 (46:39):
And I'm like, wow, where did that come from?

Speaker 4 (46:42):
But I mean, it's impossible to answer, but it's it is.
It does tie into the it ties into Kyler who's
had injuries before, and McCarthy who started ten. But you
know it's it's in and out, in and out. Very
very good question, wentz is Stable. I had a member

(47:05):
of the media asked me on the field Sunday night
how many quarterbacks do you think they keep? And I
said three, and somebody rolled their eyes at me, like
I'm like, well, I mean what.

Speaker 2 (47:18):
Are you saying.

Speaker 4 (47:18):
Are you're saying that if McCarthy loses, he's going to
get traded? I mean, okay, well let's let's let's see
where these chips fall.

Speaker 5 (47:27):
But there's a vibe to that though, where I've kind
of seen and heard that kind of implied or inferred
the idea that you know, if JJ does not get
this job that and it was part of kind of
the the idea behind well, we want to make this
feel competitive and we want them to have feel like
they have the best shot for as long as possible

(47:49):
so you don't lose somebody. And it just kind of
sounds like, specifically around JJ, it's like he doesn't get
his way in this. If he doesn't win, then he's
just he's checked out. Well, it's my belief the clouded nature.

Speaker 2 (48:03):
Of of of.

Speaker 4 (48:05):
Either what's being perceived or shared publicly about this quarterback
a competition has every bit as much to do with
Kyler Murray not thinking.

Speaker 2 (48:17):
Well, this is mine? What's mine? Dog? I mean, I
mean you said that, Okay, I am inevitable? Are you
kidding me? I mean what you brought me here for
the million? Oh that's right, it's only a million.

Speaker 4 (48:28):
No, it's so that that I think a lot of
it is that part too, So.

Speaker 5 (48:34):
The maturity thing we've talked about, or emotional maturity maybe
in some.

Speaker 2 (48:37):
Respects both have an opportunity to grow.

Speaker 4 (48:40):
Potentially if if McCarthy is not the starting quarterback, I
don't think the team would want to trade him. If
JJ's agent or or JJ McCarthy, if it gets dumb
or ugly with them, well then that's on them.

Speaker 2 (48:58):
And and and you know.

Speaker 4 (49:00):
I wouldn't trade him under any circumstance. And here's why,
because what again what? And I'm sorry to regurgitate stuff, man,
I mean, it's kind of what we do a KFA
in but it has to be said. What has Kyler
Murray done during the course of his career to make
it so you trade a first round pick who has

(49:20):
a winning record with only ten opportunities three years into
a career, and you ship all in on him. I mean, honestly,
just just listen to that. I can't do that if
I'm running the team, if I'm a wolf, I'm like, what,
you know what?

Speaker 2 (49:39):
Okay?

Speaker 4 (49:40):
Well, maybe they feel deeply behind the scenes.

Speaker 2 (49:45):
He whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.

Speaker 4 (49:47):
We saw all the same things with Kirk and with Sam.
You guys don't see walkthrough. You guys don't see the meetings.
He completely has taken the bull by the horns. I
don't believe that. So I like the stable. I like
the stable because it has options. Yeah, is the stable stable?

(50:07):
I can't say that I won't say that, and Guestling
from the Star Tribune we'll get his thoughts on it
