It's more of what matters to you. From the John Morris Services studios.
Well, good morning, we've managedto Friday five am. Is their time
here in Houston's Morning News. I'mJimmy Barrett, a long with Sheriff Ryer.
Among their top stories, the bastardwho shot that Harris County deputy has
been arrested. Lena says Harris Countydoesn't need any state help. And coming
up at five oh eight, isthis the real reason those out of state
(00:21):
crews are idle in parking lots aroundHouston. Details in the minutes ahead.
You're in Houston's Morning News. First, let's check out that morning drive for
the first time this morning with skymikee Hey, good morning. I've got
fifty nine East text Freeway completely shutdown at Luke four ninety four. There's
a wreck before North Park. Thisis outbound, not inbound. Nothing good
is happening here. It's all lanesblock. I'll get more at the five
(00:43):
to ten break. I got allkinds of lights out on the freeways.
The lights on the Heart Membridge areout and that freaks me out. You
can get through part Membridge. Thetoll bridge lights are on. I need
to take a look at the ShermanBridge. Your bridges are up and running,
just be super careful and also alot of freeway lights up. We
got a lot to talk about thismorning, Skymike and the Generator Supercenter dot
Com Traffic Center from r KTRH,top tax Defenders, twenty four hour weather
(01:07):
sent are some scattered afternoon thunderstorms todaywith the high temperature right about eighty five.
We'll get the latest on the forecastfor the weekend with Terry Smith at
the Weather Channel in about nine minutes. Right now seventy eight at your official
severe weather station, News Radio sevenforty KTRH. It is time now for
the news. Here's Sheriff Fryer.Good morning. Everyone is now five oh
one on news Radio seven forty ktrH and our top stories our The manhunt
(01:30):
ends for the accused killer in theambush murder of a Harris County deputy,
Ronnie Palmer, was taken into custodywithout incident and has been charged with capital
murder. According to a post onx from Sheriff Ed Gonzales, his deputy
was out doing his job serving theresidence of Harris County, keeping us safe
and so It's unacceptable that this wouldhappen to any law enforcement officer here in
(01:53):
anywhere, and we're not going totolerate it. Palmer was also wanted for
an assault at a Little Caesars thattook play below eight Wednesday night. Fernando
ESCTTA was twenty eight years old anda member of the Violent Person Task Force.
Cliff Saunders News Radio seven forty KTRH, of course, also topping our
news Day five for the nine hundredthousand Center Point customers who still don't have
(02:15):
air conditioning, refrigeration, potable water. Centerpoint Senior vice president Darren Carroll will
be asking our answering our questions. We hope he will join Houston's Morning News
this morning at seven twenty. Entergyin Texas New Mexico Power customers also affected
by these outages. TNMP says it'sworking to restore nearly fifty thousand customers.
(02:38):
Dead Internet still for at least ahalf million households. We don't have an
exact number of AT and T outages. Comcast claims they have restored service to
forty six percent of the almost onemillion who were cut off. Debris pick
up still an issue, especially inHarris County Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick says,
(02:59):
well, you can blame the HarrisCounty Judge, Lena Hidalgo for that.
We have not had one request fromthe county Judge of Harris County, so
I guess all of her citizens arefine in the unincorporated errors because she didn't
need anything, but if she did, we're there to fulfill it. Patrick
said they started reaching out to Hidalgoon Saturday. She allegedly said we're good
on Sunday. The judge never botheredto even return text messages from the acting
(03:23):
Governor Patrick. The City of Houstonbringing in outside law enforcement, having to
in order to deter looting. They'llbe here where the plan is for the
next four days starting tonight, toassist and work in partnership with our officers
in the field keeping everybody safe. They are bringing their own Mark patrol cars,
so you'll see that, so donot be alarmed. HBD Interim Chief
(03:46):
Larry Satterwhite School closure is still forAldan Cleveland Humble ISDS. The complete list
is at ktorh dot com. Barreldamages will likely lead to hundreds of thousands
of insurance claims. People are stillin that recovery phase. There's so many
people at this point that don't haveelectricity and don't really understand the damage or
the scope of the damage they mighthave incurred. Laith Dyke, Texas lone
(04:11):
Star says you should take photos ofdamages now, document as much as you
can for when you file a claim. It is now five oh four.
Inflation rate for June went down onetenth of a percent. It stands at
an annual three percent rate, though, so what does it mean from the
Fed and borrowers? The Federal Reserveisn't waiting for inflation to get to the
(04:34):
specific two percent threshold before they startcutting rates bank rates Greg McBride, But
how soon will they? Many economistssay if rates are cut too soon,
it would lead to another round ofinflation as people started spending again, putting
all that money out there. Weall know about the ever increasing prices,
(04:55):
but what about incomes? Shara. It is something that Jeffrey Tucker wrote about
for the Epic Times. It doesn'tmatter if you know you're getting two dollars
instead of one dollar if prices havedoubled up. Sadly, most Americans do
know we are massively under reporting inflationin so far as it affects income,
(05:17):
and there's just simply no way thatraises are keeping up with the implation data,
Just no way. He estimates thatunder Joe Biden, the dollar has
lost at least half its value overthe last four years. Jeff Biggs,
News Radio seven, Kati or h. Yeah, it's not just how many
dollars you have, is how mecheach of those dollars is worth. It's
(05:42):
now five six. Well, PresidentJoe Biden held his what they called big
boy news conference last night. Itdidn't go well. I wouldn't have picked
Vice President Trump to be vice president, and I think she's not qualified to
be president. Say what he can? He use Trump with Kamala Harris another
major gaff yesterday afternoon as well. And now I want to hand it over
(06:05):
to the President of Ukraine, whohas as much courage as he has determination
ladies and gen'en President Putin, I'vegot a three minute highlight a low light
in this case, real to sharewith you a little bit later that yep,
yeah, he actually addressed Zelensky asPutin introducing him on Truth's Social Donald
(06:29):
Trump posted sarcastically, great job,Joe, that was the first of many
bad reviews of Biden's performance. Itwas another bad night for Joe Biden.
He always a stumbley, bumbly mixesup words. He's just not a strong
leader, and you can see it. Yeah, Former Bush Press Secretary Ari
Fleischer with kJ R H Sean Hannity, we'll have reaction from Democrats at five
(06:51):
point thirty. It's now five ohseven. Harris County deputy shriffs sped up.
They've had no raises, looking atcollective bargaining now in Garls. Blamee
of Urban Reform says, well,it's because their salaries have not kept up
with inflation. If you're not keepingyour pay at the same rate as the
increase in cost of living, thenyou are kind of effectively defunding them in
(07:14):
a sense. What we've seen isin a reluctance from our county officials to
provide more funding. They currently earntwenty percent less than other similarly sized departments.
It's now five o seven. TheAstros they beat those Marlins six to
three. That's the sweep, wasn'tit. It is? Okay, so
two games out in the al Wes. They host the Rangers tonight. The
(07:36):
game at six, Sports Talk sevenninety, game time at seven ten.
You'll hear it on seven ninety andktr H. I'm sure for Fryar on
News Radio seven forty KTRH. We'reliving in faithful moments here. There's so
much going on in your world wehave to pay attention. Is front end.
I check in all day on newsradio seven forty now KTRH, wondering
(08:00):
why everybody wants to know why fiveon nine is their time here in Houston's
morning news. This is what I'mhearing. And by the way, coming
up this morning in our seven o'clockhour, let me give you exact time.
I want to say, seven twentytwo this morning. Yeah, in
the seven to twenty break right thereat ceper point, Senior vice president,
how many senior vice presidents doesn't takethe run center point? Darren Carroll will
(08:22):
join us to talk about what's goingon. This will be the first question
I will ask him share right hereand right now, because what I'm hearing
is the reason why we have somany out of state crews sitting in parking
lots quote unquote waiting for their marchingorders is not because they don't have jobs
for them to do or know wherethey would want to send them. It's
because they're still negotiating a contract withthe out of state providers who are providing
(08:46):
these crews. In other words, these guys have to get paid and they're
going to be charged in order todo it. But they are whether they're
nickel and diming it or these outof state companies want need too much money
for providing the extra help, whateverthe case is, that's what we're waiting
on. You know, we hadstanding contracts for many, many decades with
(09:07):
various providers We had that. Wouldn'tyou think that'd be done up front?
Change in leadership is my understanding, and I want to ask him that,
Yeah, what's going on? Dowe have new leadership? For what I've
been reading is that the longtime chairmanstep down, longtime president CEO step down
in January? So is this becauseand what happened? What happened to all
(09:30):
those things that standard operating procedure? What happened? Yeah, we've been through
this before many times and right now, to be honest with you, not
that I care what the rest ofthe country thinks. Biting stretch to the
imagination, we are sort of anatural embarrassment by the way things are being
handled right now at a time whenthey're trying to take over our grid.
Uh huh, yeah, Texas Grid. You know we're independent. We're not
(09:52):
making a very good case for independencewhen it comes to our own grid,
are we anyway? But we willtalk to the senior vice president. It's
seven twenty two the morning, andthat'll be the first question. I ask,
is this a contract problem? Andif so, why are we still
negotiating. Why wasn't this figured outbefore, before the cruise even came here.
Why would they send crews to sitin a parking lot until they figured
(10:13):
out that they they're going to paythese crews, And what the deal's going
to be. Five eleven, timefor traffic and weather Together, we're checking
out the drive. Here's sky Mike, all right, these texts Freeway Kingwood.
This is a deadly wrong way crash. I don't know how you go
the wrong way in this part ofthe east text, but they found a
way. This is northbound lanes. They've shut it down at four ninety four.
(10:33):
The actual crash was at north Parkoutbound and I didn't get a time
for what time that drove And theyfind out what time that drop. I'll
make a guest here this morning, maybe seven or eight o'clock. They may
have it open again. This iseast text now southbound. It's not effecting
you. Somebody may rubberneck that,so watch out for them. But we're
good to go. We're twenty oneminutes from Humble into downtown. Around town,
(10:54):
a lot of freeway lights are out. I noticed the East Freeway.
It's intermittent some of those lights. That's what that means, Mike both ways.
Looks like we're missing a lot ofour lighting. Also to twenty five,
the Heartman Bridge lights are out.I've let the people on TV know
it's very important to their aircraft.Let's see, we've got all kinds of
light outages on the North Belt ninetynine, some of your North Freeway,
(11:16):
some of your Golf Freeway, alot of your South Beltier and Highway six.
Let's check on your signals. Lookslike we still have signal problems all
around to ninety What else do weneed to get to? We need to
get to any closures. We lookgood. Oh, bridges, Hartman Bridge
is open, so is Toll Bridge, so is six ten Sherman Bridge,
Washburn tunnels open too, and it'swell lit. I'm Skymike. We'll get
to the southwest side at the fivetwenty break on the Generator Supercenter dot Com
(11:41):
traffic Center from r KTRH top taxDefenders twenty four our weather center Terry Smith
this year, and thank Mother Naturefor us, Terry for giving us some
shower relief yesterday. Because where yougot the brief downpours the temperature drop by
about ten degrees and that was veryhelpful. Good. Yeah, that is
you know what it's today, he'skind of a repeat of yesterday, though
it's a little bit quiet at themoment. I expect we'll start to see
(12:05):
those showers and thunderstorms increasing their presencehere by about mid to late morning and
then continuing into the afternoon. It'sa sixty percent chance, excuse me,
sixty percent chance of seeing the thunderstormsin some heavy rain at times, and
that does keep the temperatures in checktoday upper eightiest to low nineties and tomorrow
(12:28):
as well upper eight east to lownineties with a fifty percent chance of more
rain. But high pressure gets strongerand squishes our chances of rain starting Sunday
into Monday, and that means theheat will be back forty percent chance of
thunderstorms Sunday, no rain. Mondayand Tuesday, temperatures will be up back
up into the load to mid nineties. That's where they usually are this time
(12:48):
of year. But until we getour electricity back, we don't want usual,
No, we don't, we wantwell below usual right now seventy eight
at your officials, Severe Weather StationNews Radio seven forty KTRH, brought to
you by New South Windows Solutions. Now back to Jimmy and Scherah with the
info you need to take on theday. Five funny is their time here
(13:09):
in Houston's boring news. So wefind out from Lieutenant Governor Acting Governor Dan
Patrick that Lina says, we're good, Harris County, don't need no help.
What do you mean we don't needany help? Came rushing in from
vacation, yes, her fourth ofJuly break. Remember, Yes, I'm
fresh from vacation and I can seethat we don't need any help. Well,
well we'll ask that question to hearfrom the Lieutenant governor about that.
(13:33):
Hell, it gives me, Itgives me a little PTSD five twenty one
time for traffic and weather together sidSkymike is standing by all right, East
Text. This is nothing good happeninghere. It's North Park. We had
this overnight accident about to It wasalmost two o'clock in the morning, and
that tells me that we may behere for a while. I got Mongo
(13:54):
from Willis. He's looking at it. We've shut down the freeway at four
ninety four. This is outbound Easttext, North Park. Betts, it's
outbound, not inbound. Mango,Dude, Lawren, Scot Mike. Da've
got Tettus police cars there. Acouple of wreckords just left. But Love's
gonna shut down for wall. Somekind of investigation going on. I bet
this will be with us half themorning. We'll keep an eye out the
(14:15):
rest of our freeways for now, incident free on the main lanes. We'll
get an update. You know, these things change five thirty on your next
report. The Generator Supercenter dot Comtraffic Center from our KTRH top tax Defenders
twenty four hour weather center for today. Scattered afternoon thunderstorms. Actually starting around
mid morning, we had a scatteredstorm chance sixty percent today. That was
what we had yesterday about ninety Tomorrowfifty percent chance with scattered storm ninety and
(14:39):
then Sunday partly to mostly Claudie aforty percent chance of shower storm with a
high ninety three. Right now seventynine at your official severe weather station,
news Radio seven forty KTRH. Timeto check out some of our top stories

An arrest has been made in theambush murder of Harris County Deputy Fernando Escuela.
Fort Worth born actress Shelley Duval hasdied at the age of seventy five
complications of diabetes. The latest newsanytime at KTURH dot com. Our next
update will be at five point thirtylife It's stop and go, well,
(15:26):
just go to keep up with oursteady flow of updates to continue onward line
with news Radio seven forty JTRH.We are the biggest county in the entire
great State of Texas, but thatdoesn't mean that we couldn't use a few
extra hands. In fact, weclearly have sent for help, at least
some of us, at least thecity of Houston realizes it needs help.
(15:48):
Mayor Whitmeyer understands that we need help, especially when it comes to law enforcement.
So so he's not afraid to askfor help. Why is Lena Is
she trying to prove how tough sheis. Here's because it would be coming
from a Republican led Oh yes, government, Yes, we can't have help
from Republicans. Here's Lieutenant Governor DanPatrick explaining how he asks three or four
(16:11):
times Lena that she needed any help. Here's how that conversation went. The
federal government law, that's our job, no matter what Joe Biden or Lena
Hidalgo have to say about it.And we will follow the law, the
federal law. In our request tothe federal government, let's be clear,
and we'll get to that. Andwhat we do is we say, is
(16:34):
there anything you need? And everywhereI went, and this man's been doing
this job now for fifteen years, sixteen years, the best in the country.
So we've been around talking lots ofcounties and we were in Jasper,
but we had other counties there. There's not a county judge or a mayor
who has not gotten what he orshe asked for and the request that they've
(16:56):
made since we've been there, theywill get. There's not a county judge
or a city mayor or a commissionerwho has said to us the state of
Texas did not get them what theywanted when they needed it. And might
I add, just for the record, on Saturday, we reached out to
(17:18):
Lena Hudago and asked her if sheneeded anything, and she text back no.
Sunday we asked her did she needanything. She didn't answer. Monday
we asked her did she need anything, and she said, we're good.
Tuesday we asked her if she neededanything. Work good. We have not
had one request from the county judgeof Harris County, so I guess all
(17:40):
of her citizens are fine in theunincorporated areas because she didn't need anything.
But if she did, we're thereto fulfill it. Other than power,
my fellow Harris County residents, youget what you vote for. Do you
need anything in a real world, and certainly and historically in the past,
when it is so badly managed, you're gone. Voters have long memories about
(18:02):
things like this. Yes, you'regone, they do. You're right.
Your one job is to take careof these things. That's that's one.
When you don't, you're gone.Well hopefully hopefully you're gone. You should
be gone. Ye know, ina normal world you would be gone.
How about do we need any help? Why don't we? Why do we?
(18:23):
Could we ask for some help removingtrees opening when they have the equipment
and the personnel. Uh huh,Hello, the State of Texas has this.
This is what they do. Ifnothing else we could give about all
this debris cleanup right that is lagging. I think we could use some help.
Trucks exactly now, exactly. NationalGuard. We have a National Guard
(18:47):
that's stationed right here in this area. Seven p fifty two. This morning,
we're gonna talk to Precinct three CommissionerTom Ramsay and ask him if Harris
County needs some help that he hasa good answer for us. First of

its system that were damaged by thestorm. So many Houston area homes and
businesses, as you guys were talkingabout, still without power over a million
as of now. Center Point saysit has more than ten thousand crew members
working to restore power. SMP Futureis holding steady. This morning. DEW

the ambush killing of Harris County DeputySheriff Fernando Eskeeda. Palmer was arrested without
incident in northeast Shoes and we'll havemore details at six am. Also topping
our news, around nine hundred thousandCenter Point customers waking up without air conditioning

again for a fifth straight day afterthe hurricane and are frustrated. You know
why that the Astros have been playinggames all week in air conditioning at Minute
Made Park. We never let peopleknow the politics is out of this discussion.
I was not criticizing the Astros.I was criticizing quite frankly Center Point
(22:29):
in the city of Houston. Thatwe have to have priorities. Yeah,
well, Mini Made holds a lotof people in air conditioning comfort. Houston
Mayor John Whidmyer says Centerpoint will beheld accountable with an action review. Fort

about this. They're affected by lackof power. State officials say there are

What I said was I said inmy every day starting at seven and
going to bed at midnight, it'dbe smarter for me to face myself a

little more. Biden confused Kamala Harristhough with Donald Trump in talking to reporters,
and he introduced Ukraine's Vladimir Zelensky beforethe Big NATO group as president putin
nearly twenty Congressional democrats have called forthis president to withdraw from the race,

as George Clooney said yesterday, Ican't tell fifty one million people who watched
what we saw that that didn't happen. Michael Moore on CNN last night.
New reporting from the Hill says thatformer Speaker Nancy Pelosi is working behind the

very clearly ensure that only Americans getto the side of American elections. Why
concept one hundred ninety eight House Democratsvoted to allow illegal aliens to vote in
American elections. The bill now headsto the Senate with its Democrat majority there,
how do you think that will go? Reportedly, Biden has already promised
a veto of the bill if itis to pass both houses. House Freedom

Caucus may be turning on itself too, after one member was kicked out for
endorsing the winner of the Virginia primaryagainst the Caucus chairman, Bob Good.
The winner was endorsed by Trump.By the way, Representative Warren Davidson endorsed
the opponent of the Freedom Caucus chairman. You know, the idea that we're
(25:59):
going to kick Warren Davidson out ofthe Freedom Caucus for this, I think
is a little bit too harsh.Representative Troy Neils, who has now resigned
from the Caucus, says this isn'tthe right way to gain influence in the
House. If we want to tryto grow the ranks and make this organization
have more influence within the Republican Conference, we have to grow it. We
have to grow the organization. Neilsays. This type of behavior is why

some conservatives still won't join the FreedomCaucus. Ethan Buchanan News Radio seven forty

new numbers from Pere Research show Americansare pretty divided over concepts. What is
(27:08):
the American dream anyway? You can'tafford the American dream with what we what
we wanted when we were young. It's not something really our kids can afford.
People haven't given up hope entirely, but I think a lot of people
are doubtful. Fifty three percent ofAmericans believe the American Dream is still possible.
Forty one percent say no, it'snot, six percent say it never

so. Wel con exactly right.I cackle and I hate it. I
hate the sound of it. Idon't think anybody really likes a cackle when
(28:15):
you get right down to it,and it's not and it's not sexist to
say you don't like somebody's laugh.I mean, there are times where my
laugh can get a little nigry.I've never heard a man cackle. It's
kind of cackling, I guess. But yeah, but you have to force

they're not a fan of Kamala's laughor funny women in general, especially if
they're in bed roll it. Whatreally texts me off about him, though,
is this laughing Kamala remark, it'ssuch a sexist remark because a guy
I was having I was with withthe weekend, I'm a friend of mine.

maybe you'll do that when they're inbed with you. Oh my joy,

(29:22):
to do with anything Michelle. Sonow if you we make fun of everybody's
laugh, absolutely, this is alwaysgoing to be their default position. Precisely,
just like Jensaki is saying about Kamalathat you know, we're a racist,
sexist society if we don't keep upwith her amazing image or her vision
(29:47):
and her ideology, it's just soannoying. I am so sick of this.
I remember after Hillary lost in twentysixteen, my mom will tell me,
oh god, I've got to listento all my liberal friends say,
well, she lost because she's awoman, and people can't stand the thought
of a woman. No, wecouldn't stand the thought of that woman in
office. Right, there are plentyof women I could see. I'd love
(30:10):
to see Commolly's a rice run. She's one of many, you know.
Olan she's black too, so youknow. But this idea that just because
you make a comment. And bythe way, Kamwell's laugh call me sexist.
It is annoying and it's constant. And I say that not because she's
(30:32):
a woman, but because her laughis annoying. It is annoying. It's
completely annoying. And in Hillary Clinton'scase, her laugh was even more annoying
because you could tell it wasn't real. It was demonic. I mean it
was you know, it really wasn'treal. I think it was forced.
I don't think she naturally laughs alot. Too bad you didn't open up
your mic, and I wasn't fastenough to open up mind to hear you
(30:53):
go fall. You don't cackle, you go fall? Well, yours is
a belly lamb. If I haddone that, you wouldn't have been able
to hear the audio. See,and now women were having to make ourselves
belly laugh more because we hate tocackle ourselves. There you go five four

some showers there, and with asteady on shore flow, I think these
showers and thunderstorms will start working theirway gradually northward, so that by late
morning early afternoon we're looking at somewet weather across the Houston metro area itself.
So today a sixty percent chance ofthunderstorms, Tomorrow a fifty percent chance
(33:05):
of more rain, and then aforty percent chance of rain Sunday. So
we've got some rain every single day. Temperatures in the upper eighties to low
nineties today and tomorrow, with lessrain Sunday. It's going to start to
heat up a little bit more loadof mid nineties. I don't see much
rain at all Monday or Tuesday,so our temperatures in the load of mid
nineties. Keep in mind this istypical Houston heat, but we also have

our fairly typical humidity. So Heindadi Cas are still in the triple digits

ABC thirteen. Poorly installed Stambi generatorscan also lead to carbon monoxide poisoning.
Really, you mean if it's tooclose to the house and the fumes can
(48:19):
get in. You mean, ifyou run your generator in the garage and
believe it or not, I sawa neighbor doing that. Yeah, the
garage door was open, but theportable generator was in the garage because it
was raining outside. They're trying toprotect the generator from the weather. But
what they're doing, I mean, because garages are notorious for allowing fumes and
(48:40):
other things to get into the house. It's just not very smart. So
yes, just like you wouldn't havea heavier grill inside of your house,
although people have done that too,Just like you wouldn't do that. You
don't have a generator inside your houseor anywhere so close to your house.
With twenty feet of your house,it can the fuels can actually get into

will sound very harsh, but insome cases it's almost like thinning the herd.
Right if you if you're if youcan't figure out that, you know,

bigger problems than that. Six tentime for traffic and weather together. Sky

are you having power? Are yougetting all that back up and going again?
Mud districts, because I know you'redistributing water and allowing people to have
showers, So that tells me maybethe water pressure isn't too good yet,
Sheriff in Sergeant area only it's anarea down on the east side along the

Gulf coast. The water system there, all the other water systems in the
in the county, both of ourmunicipalities, they stayed up and running,
no no problem. After Harvey. We really hardened those with generators, uh,
And it really wasn't the generators. Are the systems themselves share it.
(56:08):
Down in Sergeant there were so manyDAMA, so much damage to the houses

destroyed and they were just pumping waterand we couldn't keep the pressure up.

Sounds like preparation was pretty good downin your county. You know, we
were watching this storm as it cameacross for weeks or for a week.
My timelines are a little off,I apologize, but for a week we
(57:39):
did. We pulled our plan out, we had it ready to go.
We were like everybody else. Wethought it was Brownsville, Mexico, and
then Brownsville and then you know,South Padria Island and then here it comes

(58:01):
guys made an adjustment. You guysmade an adjustment that others evidently were not
able to make. Have you askedfor help from the state, and if
so is the state? You knowwhat is the state done to help Matagorda
County. Jimmy, it's amazing. There's not one thing that we've asked for
that we haven't gotten in twelve hours. And in fact, we told ourselves
(58:22):
the other day, be careful whatyou asked for, because we're getting eighteen

We had a really great briefing withhim in chief kid and also our

even mentioning that Marco could be vicepresident, and he mentioned it a second

this time next year to do it. I think this is a reason

to believe Marco's not getting it,because I don't think Trump would be so

you know, I'm not going topretend to know how he's thinking or what

think it would be a hug mistakefor President Trump to choose him because he
represents the neo con warmongering establishment ofWashington, d C. Which stands diametrically
opposed to the very policies that PresidentTrump has always stood for. I'll tell

you what I think at this point. For whatever it's Worth. I think
he's going to go completely out ofthe box. He might not even pick
a Republican. I think you thinkhe might not pick a Republican. I
think he might pick an independent orsomebody who isn't even involved in politics at
this point to be that VP choice. Because I think I get the impression
(01:09:42):
that he is singularly focused on certaincore groups that can be persuaded to vote
for him in battleground states. Ithink he's using all these people in order
to get to Yeah, to getthe rallies and the rousing and all of
that exactly right. So I agreewith that, and I've always he said,

if something happens to him, Andhe said that in interviews. Sure off

We're going to find out next week, and I'm not sure there are too

much I cook. Oh, letme tell you best fast food French fry.
Your typical fast food french fry McDonald's. I'm going to give a tie
(01:29:08):
between McDonald's and Wendy's. They're bothpretty dog one good. And best crinkle
fries. That's a tough one becausethere's very few. You don't find those
that are usually at a fast foodplace. No. I was gonna say,
you have to find those at arestaurant, individual restaurants, and it's
not chained, so you know,it's got to be based on the ones
you go to. And of allthose choices, crinkle fries would be my
least favorite thing to get. Theymake good crinkle fries at the grocery store
(01:29:32):
in Halltsville. All right, I'mon my way to Hellesville because I have
no winter for that particular category. But happy National French Fried Day, however
you like your fries. Seven ten, Time for traffic and weather together.

And I know the TV ladies areasking me for alternates, and I've got

been an accident at four ninety fourand Kingwood Drive in the center lane,

(01:30:39):

much all day. Yeah, it'skind of one of those off and on
kind of events where we've got thatstalled front. The onshore flows very persistent,
so and we're seeing these little disturbances. So we could get some rain

mid to late morning and then certainlyinto the afternoon, and even a few
thundershowers in the evening. The rainoverall, though, will slowly taper off
through the weekend. So today's asixty percent chance of those showers and thunderstorms.
We may get some heavy rain withsome of those storms, fifty percent

(01:34:16):
Carroll. We appreciate you coming onthe show, Darren very much. Certainly,
good morning. You bet. Let'slet's address the story that's going around
that one of the reasons that wehave crews sitting idly in parking lots and
not out there actually fixing anything isbecause contracts have not been worked out with
some of the out of state energyproviders. Is that true and if so,
why that is simply not true.Yeah, all of that work is
(01:34:41):
done well before Cruiser dispatched our area, and you know, it's just unsubstantiated,
not true. We pay all thosefolks and have contracts in place well
before, well before we need them. There were so many people in this
heat. And there's also the factof the water systems. I mean,
it's one thing to not even beable to run a fan in your house
because you have no power, butwhen you can't rely on the water system,
(01:35:04):
So when it comes to prioritizing, why was the Convention Center not made
priority so we could get people inthere where they could have some cool air
during the day. Or why didlarge facilities like that not get their power,
Why did they not get on thepriority list? Or were they and
(01:35:24):
you just weren't simply able to deliver. Yeah, I mean you can imagine
an event like this. There arejust a lot of priorities and we have
to work through those in a waythat makes the most sense, and we
do so in collaboration with local officials, community leaders and other folks and so
so there are going to be exampleswhere you know, in hindsight you say,
(01:35:45):
what about this one or what aboutthat one? But you know,
the fact of the matter is thatwe're not working in a vacuum, and
we work with our communities and makingthose decisions. Virtually every community leader,
sir, that we have talked toover the course last couple of days,
has said that communication with you justhasn't happened, that you've been impossible to
reach, difficult to talk to,and have been very stingy with the information.
Yeah. First I just want tosay, look, we understand the
(01:36:08):
frustration of our communities. Uh.And you know those folks that are that
are most impacted by this, andwe own the fact that our communications can
be better. We're doing a lotof after act you We did that after
the Draicho, implemented some new thingsduring this this storm, and you know,
we'll be doing things different going forwardbased on feedback we received from this
evening. Did you have anybody atHarris County, because you certainly didn't at
(01:36:30):
Galveston County. We've heard directly fromthese judges in Galveston County they were not
able to even get you on thetelephone to find to get find out what
was going on so they could impartthe information. They got immediate response from
the State of Texas. Now we'velearned from the State of Texas that our
county judge, Lena Hidalgo didn't botherto ask for any help. Were you
(01:36:53):
in communication with Lena Hidalgo of HarrisCountry. Yeah, we're, Yes,
we were, and we're in constantunication with officials in all of our communities
that are impacted. You know, many of them stand up their own emergency
operation centers. We have people pluggedin you know, at all of those.
You know, we do daily callswith with lots of different folks outbound
(01:37:13):
calls. So you know, we'reconnected with with our officials and all of
our communities. It didn't happen. They said it didn't happen. They couldn't
get you on the phone. Youwouldn't respond until now. Maybe you are,
but you weren't in the height ofeverything when they really needed the knowledge.
Yeah. I can't speak to thatspecific instance, but you know,
I do know that we have folksplugged into all of these emergency operations centers
(01:37:38):
in a constant contact. The statesays that there's going to be an investigation.
The governor says there's going to beinvestigation. The mayor wants an investigation.
Are you concerned about doing business inthe Houston Greater Houston area going forward?
Are you concerned what sort of aninvestigation might be done and what it
might mean to your company? No, No, we've got to hide.
(01:38:00):
We're proud of our preparation. We'reproud of our response. We'll be happy
to have those stations and share, you know, anything that that they want
to know. And we're not concernedabout, you know, doing business in
this area going forward. We're proudof what we do for the community.
We're proud of what we do forour customers, and and we we certainly
understand the the mission and you know, the service that we provide. We
(01:38:24):
learn from everything that every event thathappens. So what would you change moving
forward for the next one, becausethere will be a next one, certainly.
Yeah. Communication is a big pieceof that. Again, we've we've
owned that, We've said that thereare things that we can do better.
Everybody has talked about the audit trackerbeing down since the Durho. You know,
we're going to have a new versionof that up and running here in
(01:38:45):
the next couple of weeks for folksto use, and we're doing a whole
lot of things on the back endto to make sure that we're able to
communicate more effectively going forward. Sothat would be priority number one for us.

So we've been around talking to lotsof counties. When we were in Jasper,
but we had other counties there. There's not a county judge or a

they've made since we've been there,they will get. There's not a county

might I add just for the record, On Saturday, we reached out to
Lena Hudago and asked her if sheneeded anything, and she text back no.
(01:49:20):
Sunday we asked her did she needanything. She didn't answer. Monday,
we asked her did she need anything? And she said we're good.
Tuesday, we asked her if sheneeded anything work good. We have not
had one request from the County Judgeof Harris County, So I guess all

(01:54:30):
can have during any disaster and reallyin any instance. So to say something
like that is clearly a misrepresentation atbest politics that it's worse. What we
need is leadership. I think we'regetting it from a lot of areas.
I met with personally with Lieutenant GovernorPatrick earlier in the week. I told
(01:54:56):
you specifically what our needs are.Chief Kid, who's been doing this for
fifteen years, is probably the mostexceptional resource we have in the state.
So to not answer the poem orto send a text that's irresponsible. Can
I ask you this? I mean, you're the loan Republican on the Harris
County Commissioner's Court. Can you individuallyfor your precinct to ask for state help?
(01:55:20):
Or do you have to wait forLena Hidalgo or Rodney Ellis or whoever
else is running this county to makethe request for you? Listen, there's
I have one point two million peoplein my precinct, and really Harris County
functions day in and day out asa precinct led county. No resources get
(01:55:43):
to the people without going through theprecincts. We have twenty two crews that
are out there this morning working pickingup debris, dealing with the issues.
I don't call the judge to talkabout those things. We make decisions individually,
whether it's Commissioner Garcia, Commissioner Brionas. We're managing that at a precinct
(01:56:03):
level. The state knows it,we understand it. This is how it's
functioning in this area. It mayfunction differently in Montgomery County or other areas,
but in this area we are managingthe assets and resources to respond to
people. Well, you mentioned thework crews there. We have not seen
any cruise for the most part workingin the city or we're just outside of
(01:56:27):
the city. Other precincts in HarrisCounty, are they doing what you're doing
as far as getting the trucks outthere or not? Well, we are,
as I mentioned there are. We'vegot one hundred and fifty four zones
set up for debris pickup. Jimmy, what we've been doing for the last
four or five days is clearing thetrees from the right of way just to
(01:56:48):
allow you to go down the road. So now they pushed to the side
on the curb in most cases. Now that debris pickup begins week, people
are calling me saying when is itgoing to happen? If you call me,
I will let you know what neighborhoodit is. We've got the one
hundred and fifty four zones established. We're going to be working it over the
(01:57:11):
next cup for three weeks. Thisis the third disaster we've dealt with in
less than seven weeks. We've beenorganizing the other two. We're organizing this
one. And you're going to seethe trucks out there. They've been there.
Maybe you didn't see all of themin the neighborhood, but we've been
cutting trees since two hours after barrelblew through. Our crews were out there
(01:57:33):
removing trees from the Roadways commissioner veryquickly. We're almost out of time.
How about your water? Are yourwater systems up and running? Are you
still having to deliver water to people? Well, we have two hundred and
two MUDs in the precinct and thereis some of that. We're having a
big event on Saturday. Thank you. The State of Texas provided bad guys
(01:57:54):
and water non Paris wells that'll beat the Crosby Community Center out in Crosby.
Ninety percent of the people don't havepower. They are in dire straits
out there, and I can't getany information out of Center Point. I
heard what the gentleman said earlier. He does not communicate. They send me
(01:58:15):
a map that doesn't work. Hesends me a map that's not accurate.
I need specific details on when yourcrews are going to show up. You
go to Mark Herman's office. You'vegot the power lines dangling in the parking
lot. We've not seen a trucka Center Point response trucks in some parts
(01:58:36):
of Precinct three. We've got themost people without power in any other than
any other area. It's an unincorporatedarea. Here's what I've learned, and
that is even the vice presidents area bunch of pr flex. Thank you,
sir, Thank you for your time, folks, thank you for listening.
