Speaker 1 (00:00):
Defense on Fulham. God on my side making the twenty
twenty for you, like like no other stay and no
radio seventy four kg rh oh, we have a new
police jeep. It's no idea. As the former chief of
police in Katie joining us to talk about Mike Knox,
former HBD officer and city council member, you think the
(00:20):
mayor made a good decision here? What do you think?
Speaker 2 (00:23):
I do? I think he did just fine with this one.
You know, most mayors will do this large hunt and
go all over the place, and you know, bring chiefs
in from timbuktoo to do their their their work for him.
But he found this guy real close by, so where
it's going to cost us less to move him back
to Houston. Probably won't have to move it all. The
(00:45):
thing is that, you know, he's a Texas Ranger. I mean,
oh my goodness, that's great. You know, the Texas Rangers
are the epitome of integrity and the standard of law
enforcement in the state of Texas. And although he's retired,
he still carries that with him as part of his
genetic code. I'm sure. So that's going to bring some
(01:07):
I think good professionalism and integrity back to the Houston
Police Department, which will help a lot with the problems
we're having with these two hundred and sixty thousand dollars,
two hundred and sixty thousand cases that were basically shoved
in a drawer and forgotten about.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
Yeah, so this is it was a difficult time of
the choosing one because of the politics that are involved
right now with police and the police department. And yet
he was able to kind of thread that needle very quickly.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
And putting someone who is known.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
Noble, has a record and has this reputation of integrity.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
And he where's a hat. I mean, my goodness, that's great,
big old cowboy hat. That's great. You know me, I
wear a hat all the time all the other well.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
That would be the ranger.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
Look, you know, mm hm.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
No. But he's a you know, as far as I
can tell, I don't know him personally, but as far
as I can tell, he's got a great tremendous record.
The troops that worked under him over in Kadie Police Department,
I'm the ones that I've talked to seem to like
him a lot. They in fact, they put a little
thing on their Facebook page. We're going to misshieft so
that you don't see that very often. A lot of
(02:22):
times you'll, you know, we're glad to see him go
kind of approach, but but yeah, they're they're the troops
that he works with right now, considering to be fair
minded and uh, you know steady, you know, just a
really good guy. So hopefully that will translate into the department.
It'll lend some of his credibility to the department and
(02:44):
help with some of our community relations in the neighborhood well, and.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
Hopefully it helps him recruiting too, Mike, because obviously that's
a that's a big issue for the HPDs to get
get more officers in there, and you got to like
where you're going, and you gotta like who you're going
to work for, right.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
Yeah, that's right. Maybe we'll be able to bring some
of those KADI officers over with him, who knows, but
the but yeah, that's a big problem that the recruiting
effort in Houston is a pretty good one. But you know,
every law enforcement agency in the state is trying to
steal from each other. And you're right, it's about who
(03:19):
you work for, the quality of uh you know, backup
that you get from your administration and the pay and benefits,
so I think it's gonna overall, it's a really good decision.
I'm happy that he did that, although you know I
would you know, sat of White would have been a
fine chief too, but he was too close to the
to the problem. And I think that's that was a
(03:42):
good decision on the mayor's part to pick someone who's
at least from Texas, and and with that kind of reputation,
I think it's going to be a good thing.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
For HBD, Fresh start, fresh starts. What you're saying, all right, Mike.
Always good to talk to you, sir. Thank you. Former
HBD officer and city council member, that is Mike Knox
