Speaker 1 (00:01):
Seven, twenty three is our time see a lot of
red in Texas. Just how deep red can the Texas
House get? I think we're going to find out when
they finally decide who the next House Speaker is going
to be. Silviaocento Junior wrote a story about it for
American Thinker. It's interesting because, well, first of all, Dade
Feelan obviously realized that he was not going to get

(00:21):
the speakership, so he dropped out through his support behind
Dustin Burrows. There's not enough votes for either one of
them at this point. How do you think this whole
thing's going to turn out?

Speaker 2 (00:33):
Well, good morning, guys, and thank you for the invitation.
As always, I think it's going to turn out with Cook.
I think Cook is going to be the next Speaker.
He may not have the votes right now, but he
does have the support of a pretty important player that's
the governor. And of course the governor wants to get
Boucher's done next year, and I think he sees Cooke
as his biggest ally, So I think it's going to

(00:54):
be Cook. I think the numbers will eventually line up
for him. But you're right, as of right now, nobody
has the magic majority to be the speaker.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
Guys, Okay, well, David Cook used to be a Dade
feel and ally, so what's the difference between the two.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
Well, I think the election, the twenty twenty four election,
I think was the key factor. I think every Republican
out there who saw what happened to those Republicans who
didn't support vouchers, most of them are gone, and they're
gone because the governor ran a primary against them. So
I think that's the key factor. Everybody realized is that
the governor wants vouchers, and Republicans want vouchers, and if

(01:34):
you want to get reelected, you better support vouchers because
that's where the party is right now, and that's where
the governor is. And he is the key player, I believe,
as well as the lieutenant governor, but especially the governor.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
So is David Cook. Let's take vouchers off the table
here for just a second. How moderate or conservative is
David Cook normally speaking?

Speaker 2 (01:55):
Well, he's from North Texas, not far from where I am,
and he's been pretty conservative of over the years, I
mean certainly a lot more conservative than Boroughs has been,
So I think he would be a very conservative speaker.
He's got the majority to be conservative, and this last
election clearly was a success for the Republicans. The state

(02:15):
got more read and more conservatives are now in office.
So I think he understands where the state is. And
whatever relationship he had with feeling before, that's you know,
that's okay. But he understands where the state is right now,
and this is the very red state right now after
that election.

Speaker 1 (02:32):
No doubt. So do you think that Bush comes to shove,
he's willing to make a deal like Dade Feelan did
to give Democrats these committee ships, or do you think
he will go in the other direction if he ends
up being the speaker and allow the Republican majority to
rule these committees.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
No. I think he'll He'll allow He'll allow the Republican
majorities to run the committees. I think he understands that
that's the way to do it. I think that one
of the problems that Feelan had in the past is
he was trying to be too congenial and too you know,
open if you will, to the Democrats, and that ended
up causing him trouble. Now, but look, if you have
the majority, you should run the committees. That's what people

(03:13):
vote for. You know, I voted for a Republican and
might stay representative. And you know I voted for the
Republicans to have the majority, and I expect them to
have the majority. I mean, this's got idea that you're
going to share committees. I mean that may sound real
good in the abstract, but it doesn't work in a
Republican state, ly Texas. And when you have a governor

(03:35):
who's committed to conservative goals, so he better he better
not do that, or otherwise he'll he'll be replaced too.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
All right, Sylvia, thank you appreciated. Selvio Kento Junior joining
