Here's Eric Sharp.

Speaker 5 (01:38):
It's now five oh one on news Radio seven forty
k TRH. Our top story this hour. The person of
interest in the murder of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson
has been arrested, with authority's identifying him as twenty six
year old Luigi Mangioni.

Speaker 6 (01:55):
Twenty six year old suspect Luigi Mangioni appeared here in
Blair County Criminal Courthouse where he was arraigned on five
criminal charges related to fake IDs and for having an
illegal ghost gun. Mangione will have a preliminary court hearing
on December twenty third here in Pennsylvania, but until then
he will be held in a jail cell.

Speaker 7 (02:17):
Now.

Speaker 6 (02:17):
He's then expected to be extra guided to New York City,
where he will potentially then expect it to face charges
for murdering the Universal Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson, But that
could take up to forty five days.

Speaker 5 (02:30):
That's fox, says Brian Yennis and Altoona. Pennsylvania authorities found
a manifesto that suggests he had some resentment against corporations.
He also said to be the relative of a Maryland
State assemblyman. All new unrest in the Middle East spells
more uncertainty for the oil market.

Speaker 8 (02:47):
Longtime Syrian president Basher alas Sand was forced out of
power over the weekend by rebel forces, leaving the nation
in disarray. Prist Features Group analyst Phil Flynn says, while
Syria is not a major oil producer, this could have
a ripple effect on its own.

Speaker 9 (03:00):
I think it's going to put a hit on the
ability of both Russia and Iran to sell their oil,
which could lead to higher prices around the Quobe because
if you're getting less oil on the black market, that's
more supply that has to be made up by legitimate sources.

Speaker 8 (03:15):
Crude oil ticked up by about a dollar on the
first day after the fall of Syria.

Donald Trump's defence secretary nominee Pete Hegg said spending time
on Capitol Hill meeting with senators as he's vying to
get confirmed adamid multiple left wing allegations of sexual misconduct.
Speaking to Fox of Sean Hannity, Hexsas says that he
was exonerated once already.

Speaker 10 (03:39):
It was fully investigated at the time, and I was
completely clear, and that's why I looked him forward to
the FBI background check.

It's the anatomy of a smear.

Heg Seth will continue meeting with more senators this week.
Texas Republicans are rallying support for devinse scretary nominee Pete Hegseth.
Congressmanship Roy says he's the right man for the job.

Speaker 11 (04:04):
We ought to have somebody who's served in battle and
understands it, who's at the top of the Pentagon, rather
than the brass who often like the ribbons more than
actually doing the work that is necessary.

Speaker 5 (04:14):
Roy chastass fellow Republicans who refused to support the incoming administration.
On Monday, Trump also picked Armique K. Dillon for Assistant
US Attorney General for Civil Rights at the DOJ on
Truth Social Trump called Dylan a tireless defender of our
constitutional rights, adding that she will enforce our civil rights
and election laws fairly and firmly well. Joe Biden has

(04:36):
been ranked the worst president in the last fifty years
in a new poll, meaning Joe Biden will likely be
remembered for the long term hurt on Americans pocket books.

Speaker 12 (04:46):
Sixty eight percent of Americans said the American economy is headed.

Speaker 13 (04:49):
In the wrong direction.

Speaker 12 (04:51):
I think Joe Biden is could go down as one
of the worst presidents.

Speaker 14 (04:53):
In American history.

Speaker 5 (04:54):
Nancy economist Steve Moore. He says Biden's inflation record is
one of the reasons that Donald Trump performed so well
with the middle class and lower way journers. Aither marine
veteran charged in a deadly New York City subway choke
hold has been found not guilty. Daniel Penny was charged
with manslaughter negligent homicide in last year's choke hold death
of Jordan Neely on a subway train. A jury found

(05:16):
Penny not guilty of negligent homicide after the top charge
of manslaughter was dismissed last week. Well, of course, we'll
have more on this at five point thirty. The Supreme
Courts is upholding a lower court ruling that Dallas police
did not commit any predicsive patterns of misconduct in response
to protesters. Back in twenty twenty, rallies were held in
Dallas following George Floyd's death in Minneapolis. The Dallas protesters

(05:39):
were trying to sue the city on grounds of failing
to train their officers on how to handle protesters. Katierray
Toduce sign five five used to Mayor John Whitmyer pulling
a two point six million dollars of funding for the
Montrose Bridge lights. The mayor wants to use that cash
for his new homelessness initiative.

Speaker 15 (05:58):
And the cost for that is million to start. So
where is the mayor going to get the rest of
the money.

Speaker 16 (06:04):
I think there are a lot of areas in which
the money can be asked or requested.

Speaker 14 (06:08):
Now, if they come through, that's a whole other story.

Speaker 15 (06:11):
That's Charles Blaine, President of Urban Reform here in Houston.

Speaker 16 (06:15):

expense that we're looking at every.

Speaker 14 (06:19):
Year, are they going to be committed to doing it
every year?

Speaker 16 (06:21):
I think those are big questions to be asked, because
we don't want to end up in the same situation
no we find ourselves in today.

Speaker 4 (07:30):
Oh wait, it's our time here on Houston's Morning News. Right,
So we have a suspect, if you will, I think
we got the guy. The guy who's been arrested is
Eric just told you was arrested at the McDonald's in Pennsylvania.
Evidently he went to the University of Pennsylvania. That's his
Pennsylvania connection. Penn the part of the IVY League. So

(07:50):
they're calling him or dubbing him the IVY League Assassin. Now,
what else do we know about? Luigi Mangione twenty six
years old. Comes from a prominent Maryland family who has
made a ton of money in real estate. Yet he
has anti capitalist leanings. Yeah, he's a leftist. So my

(08:13):
question would be to you what set him off and
how did he become radicalized. Did he become radicalized at
this Ivy League school, at the University of Pennsylvania. It's
probably a good chance. By all reports, he was a
great student, engineering student, you know, top of his class,

(08:36):
had a bright future ahead of him. But for whatever reason,
he decided that he wasn't a capitalist. He didn't want
to be a capitalist, and maybe the thing that drove
him over the edge. He had back problems. His family
evidently reported him missing about a month ago, hadn't heard
from him host back surgery, and they were concerned about him,

(08:58):
but no word on what effort, if any real effort
was put into trying to find him. So when they
found this guy, he was carrying a ghost gun mass
and he had a manifesto. I think we're going to
get a chance to read this manifesto. Can we read
this manifesto when it comes out? Can we find out

(09:20):
exactly what radicalized this kid instead of what happened in Nashville, Tennessee,
where we never did find out. We know that again
this time at least we know we know his political leanings,
and we know that he had a manifesto. He was
a big Ted Kaczinski fan. And what's really sad about

(09:40):
this entire story, unfortunately, to share some audio with you
on this one this morning, is how many people are
sympathizing with this kid. Yeah, he had back, sir, he
had he had a hard time. I'm assuming he had
United Healthcare. That's why he targeted them. And maybe he
had problems with his insurance getting coverage on the things
he needed at done for his back surgery. But that's

(10:01):
probably what set him off here. But you know, the
amount of people who seem to think that this killing
is somehow justified or joyful is shocking, absolutely shocking. Five
ten Time for traffic and weather together. We're checking out
the drive. Here's sky Mike. All right, let's check out
your East freeway here in beil Lockwood. That's a stall

(10:21):
right before you do the exit. Let's watch out on
the right side.

Speaker 2 (10:24):
You know what. Let's flip over here here, Terry puts
your hard head on whips. I didn't know what that was.
Let's flip over here and do the Hartman bridge. That
looks good. It sure looks a little foggy to me.
From the baytown side. Laporte, we look good. Both ways here.
Let's check the toll bridge. Get over this way and
see what's going on. We look good north Shore to
two twenty five so far, no scooches here and no

(10:47):
big hobnobbery on the east loop either. Look at Sherman

We'll check your west side at the five to twenty report.

Weather though, for Markatirah Top Tax Defenders twenty four hour
Weather Center, Terry Smith is back this morning, but she's
bringing back some really cold temperatures. And I guess if
you go further into the northern Houston suburbs, we could
see some freezing temperatures here.

Speaker 19 (11:20):
Yeah, there's a freeze watch for what later tonight into
Wednesday morning for some of our counties to the north,
like Montgomery and Washington and San Jacinto and Walker. So yeah,
freezing temperatures. Hey, this is the way it works around wintertime.

Speaker 2 (11:40):
It's either like warm and rainy or dry and chili.

Speaker 19 (11:46):
So we've got some sunshine, and I'm always happy to
see the sunshine. We also do have some fog along
the coast, so definitely an interesting morning starting out with
some clouds, the sunshine making an appearance later today. Temperatures
are really not going to change a whole lot over
the course of the day. I think we're pretty much
going to level out somewhere between the upper fifties to

(12:07):
low sixties this afternoon, and a lot of us tonight
are going to see those temperatures drop down into the thirties.
Tomorrow's still sunny and dry, low sixties. It's a little
bit warmer Thursday, low to mid sixties, and then toward
the end of the week another round of rate. A
forty percent chance of showers and storms Friday, a fifty
percent chance that you'll get wet on Saturday.

One we've already discussed and we'll discuss a little bit.

Speaker 4 (12:50):
More in a moment than that is the arrest of
the person they believe responsible for the killing of United
Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York City. The other
one also out of New York City, and that is
Daniel Penny being found not guilty. You know, they did
their level best. The judges in New York are corrupt

(13:11):
beyond belief that they would work in concert with the
district attorney, you know, to change the charges as it
goes along, drop one charge at another charge. It's just ridiculous.
But Daniel Penny found not guilty yesterday. We'll have some
reaction to that coming up as well. Right now five twenty.
Time for traffic and whether together, Starting with you, skuy Mike.

Here's our shark.

Speaker 5 (14:31):
It is now five twenty one on news Radio seven
forty KTRH. Hemlines brought to you by Texas Mutual Insurance.
A wildfire quickly spreading in southern California this morning, sparking
evacuations in Malibu. The flames have already ripped across more
than eight hundred acres. TikTok asking for an emergency motion
to stop a law banning it from going into effect
next month, and a court filing Monday by Dance said

(14:52):

to review the law, and Miriam Webster is unveiling its

Speaker 2 (15:13):
Live at Katie.

Speaker 3 (15:14):
Your best ways are round Houston next on the ten
on seven KTRH. You know, one of the things that
just really strikes me about this stories is how many
people in this country believe that Brian Thompson got what
was coming to him, that he is he's evil, that
healthcare companies are evil, that they're greedy, that they don't

(15:38):
take good care of the people who have their insurance.
And while many of those things are probably true, none
of those things make it right to assassinate somebody. I
kind of have to wonder going forward, would you would
you want a job in a controversial industry? Would you
like a job at big Pharma right now? Would you

(16:00):
like the job heading up a healthcare company knowing that
there are people out there that think you deserve to
die for whatever your company policies are about making money
and ensuring other people. So last night the news is
breaking right about the rest. Criminal defense attorney Andrew Staultman
retired FBI Special Agent James Fitzgerald were on the ingram

(16:23):
Angle last night talking about the arrest of what they're
calling the Ivy League assassin.

Speaker 21 (16:28):
Well, I think there's going to be a tsunami of
evidence against him. And you take a look at some
of the stuff they already have, and they've just started
their investigation. They have the DNA evidence, they have the
manifesto from his backpack. Most importantly, they now have what
they believe is the murder weapon, the ghost gun and
the silencer. I guarantee you right now the FBI is
testing that gone to see if it matches those shell

(16:50):
casings that were used in the killing. So I think
this defendant is in a lot of trouble. I think
they're going to secure a search warrant for his phone,
for his computer, for his apartment, everything else.

Speaker 2 (17:03):
I think he's in a lot of trouble.

Speaker 22 (17:05):
Mister Fitzgerald, here's what we have about mister Mangioni. He
graduated at the top of his class, stellar student from
an elite private high school in Baltimore. He went on
to study engineering, got his advanced degree master's degree in
computer science. The Angle spoke to a number of man
Jones's former college classmates who were all shocked to hear
about his arrest. They told us he was smart and

(17:27):
quote chill, one said, I knew him as a very polite,
driven engineering student who usually carried a smile. He had
a really nice, genuine group of friends who were pretty
studious and a little removed from the bar and party scene. Externally,
he seemed like someone who was more likely to start
a nonprofit than red manifestos. And then another one told
us I wanted to set him up with one of

(17:49):
my friends because he would be a great boyfriend.

Speaker 2 (17:52):
James, this is wild.

Speaker 22 (17:54):
He also worked at Stanford University in twenty nineteen for
about six months at a summer program for college incoming
college students high school seniors, where apparently he was very
well like there as well, your take tonight.

Speaker 23 (18:09):
Yeah, there's some semblance of this guy to Ted Kaczinski,
the unibomber of course, with the manifesto brilliant, moving ahead,
top of his class, but this particular person is much
more outgoing and socially oriented than Kazinsky ever was. And
there's indicators that there's some kind of a back surgery
he may have had, and this is what tilted him
towards anger at the medical insurance companies. Interestingly, back in

(18:34):
the sixties, Kazinsky was turned down for a sex change operation.

Speaker 2 (18:37):
That's when he decided to kill people.

Speaker 23 (18:39):
So and it seems like this guy is an advocate
or an accolyte, I should say of Ted Kaczinski, having
read his manifesto quoted from it. So once again we're getting,
even long after or a couple of years after he's dead,
long after his offenses, we're getting some of these people
that see Kazinsky as a hero when he wasn't and
neither's a shooter, and they're a CEO in New York.

Speaker 4 (18:59):
Let me guess mental health issues, right? Is that what
we're going to find out here? Another dude with mental
health issues? You got to go that route, don't you?
I mean it, I don't know. Do you have to
be crazy to believe that murder is an appropriate solution

(19:19):
for somebody that you think you've been wrong by, by
the head of a company that you think you've been
wrong by. Don't you have to be crazy to think
that's the appropriate solution, or do you just have to
be have a set of values that leads you to
believe that? Again, I think we need to get into
the whole radicalization thing. Who radicalized this kid to become

(19:41):
a killer? Five twenty six. Time to take a look
at your money. Jeff Bellinger is here. Good morning, Jimmy,
Good morning to you. Small business sentiment got a trump
month last month. The National Federation of Independent Business reports
its optimism index surged eight points to the highest level
in more than three years. FIB Chief economists Bill Dunkelberg

(20:02):
says business owners are hopeful about changes and tax and
regulatory policies and relief from inflationary pressures after Donald Trump
returns to the White House. Wall Street started the week
with a losing session. Each of the major averages fell
about six ten percent yesterday. A key inflation report will
be out tomorrow, so trading may be subdued today. Futures

(20:23):
are a little bit higher right now, and the late
fall decline and mortgage interest rates provided an opportunity for
a lot of homeowners to reduce their monthly payments. Intercontinental
Exchange reports more than three hundred thousand home loans were
refinanced in September and October. On average, borrowers who didn't
take cash out reduced their payments by three hundred and
twenty dollars a month. I'm Jeff Bellinger, Bloomberg Business on

It's five thirty one on news radio seven forty KTRH.

Speaker 2 (22:42):
Our top story.

Speaker 7 (22:44):
Wait wait wait, wait wait night my hold up.

Speaker 5 (22:47):
Man, it's kas outside the courthouse. After the marine veteran
charge in a deadly subway choke hold was found not guilty.
Daniel Penny was charged with manslaughter and negligent homicide in
last year's choke cold death of that violent homeless man
and on the subway near Eric Adams.

Speaker 24 (23:02):
After the verdicts, a jury of his peers heard the case,
so all the facts and all the evidence, and made
a decision, and I joined Da Braggs as stated in
that I respect the process.

Speaker 5 (23:14):
Jurors deadlock last week on a manslaughter charge, prompting the
judge to dismiss it. Yesterday they found Penny not guilty
on the remaining charge of negligent homicide. All three US
Army soldiers from Fort Cavasso Sinkaleen, Texas being accused of
smuggling illegals into the US. According to the Department of
Justice press release. Two of the soldiers were caught by
US border patrol in late November attempting to bring in illegals.

(23:37):
The third person is said to have been the facilitator.
Through a search warrant, the DOJA detailed how they obtained
the text messages that implicated all three at cases under
continued investigation. The left already began the fear mongering over
Trump's mass deportation plan, and conservative outlets they're now pushing back.

Speaker 15 (23:57):
And that includes Bob Price at bright Bart Texas.

Speaker 27 (24:01):

Speaker 5 (24:27):
And another forty five hundred feet of border wall has
been erected in Texas, but there's still over one thousand
miles that need protection. Texas deps Lieutenant Chris Olivares says
that the Biden administration finding the state on barriers has
not stopped the construction.

Speaker 28 (24:42):
We have fifty three miles of Texas border walk constructed
with another ten miles under contract, So we're looking at
roughly a little over sixty five miles of border walk
that has been constructed by.

Speaker 2 (24:53):
The City of Texas.

Speaker 5 (24:54):
Land Commissioner Don Buckingham says that they'll be constructing walls
as well on a fourteen hundred acre ranch and Stark County,
which they've offered Trump to utilize. As the drama in
the race for speaker continues to unfold, it's becoming clear
that there is still more work to.

Speaker 2 (25:08):
Do in the Texas House of Representatives.

(32:59):

Terrell on yesterday's unanimous not guilty verdict.

Speaker 33 (33:06):
Well, it's a failure in the part of Alvin Bragg.
He tried this case for political racial reasons. For ten days,
this case was sitting there and all of a sudden
he decided to prosecute and the jury said no. And
it's very clear that Alvin Bragg goes after people that
basically is politically motivating. He went after Trump, and he

(33:28):
went after this individual because the suspect was black, and
the jury said no.

Speaker 13 (33:33):
Oh.

Speaker 33 (33:33):
Let me be very clear, Alvid Bragg was gaming the system. Look,
when you fouled charging, you start off the case with
the charges, you know, all of a sudden dismissed.

Speaker 2 (33:41):
Part of the case. If you have a hung jury or.

Speaker 33 (33:44):
A mistrial, you don't dismiss part of the case. Well, judge,
let's go after this portion of the case. He was
gaming the system. Why John, Because he was desperate for
a win. He lost, He lost his case, and he
did everything. I'm embarrassed for the judge who went along
with this scheme. The jury spoke unanimously not guilty on

(34:06):
the negligence charge, which is the lower standard. And the
point is very clear. You had people while here, which
I think has to be addressed. You had race hustlers
out there trying to intimidate the jewelry, people who have
been out there always playing the race card for ten years.

Speaker 2 (34:19):
They'll play the race card again.

Speaker 14 (34:21):
This case wasn't about race.

Speaker 2 (34:22):
It was about a marine veteran who was trying to.

Speaker 33 (34:25):
Protect people on the subway who were terrorized.

Speaker 4 (34:28):
And the jury saw it. Yeah, they did in more reaction.

Speaker 16 (36:34):
How are you?

Speaker 13 (36:34):
Thank you for having me on?

Speaker 2 (36:35):
Pleasure to have you on. Let's let's talk.

Speaker 4 (36:37):
Let's labround what Leo Terrell was talking about here just
a moment ago, about how the justice system seems to
work differently in New York City. I mean, how unusual
is it for a DA to go to a judge
and say, well, we have a hung jury on this,
on this, you know, this major charge here, so let's
just concentrate on the lesser charge and go ahead and

(36:58):
take take the other one off.

Speaker 7 (37:01):
Yeah, it's crazy and my chanion is not at all
how it's supposed to work. And aren't worse yet?

Speaker 34 (37:07):
Right?

Speaker 7 (37:08):
I think most prosect keepers would face with a hung
jury would prefer to have the mistrial declared, because if
you have the mistrial declared, they get to try it again.
And when they get to try it again, the defense
has already laid out all their hands. They you know
what their case is, and they can be better prepared
to try to get a conviction. If you were really
really trying to get a conviction, I think you take
the hung jury. But I think this suggests that they

(37:31):
that they might have realized they had a problem and
they wanted to get it over with and now and
right then, and there was their best chance.

Speaker 13 (37:38):
To do it.

Speaker 4 (37:38):
I was say, what does that tell you about the jury?
That there was a hung jury on the on the
major charge and it was a nanimous verdict on the
on the one that would have been easier to convict
them on.

Speaker 7 (37:49):
Yeah, that's the result. I'm still stumbling over. I'm not
sure how that's what happened in that jury room, such
that that they had some people apparently willing to convict
on a much short, harder standard, and then they unanimously agreed.
But one thing I couldn't suggest is that the jury
had been instructed that they couldn't reach the lower case

(38:12):
the charge and loft State found him not guilty of
the higher charge. And when the prosecution then drops the
claim after spending all this time, money and effort trying
to prove it, it doesn't send a good message to
the Jerry about how serious this prosecutor is.

Speaker 4 (38:27):
No, it doesn't, sure doesn't. Certainly based on the people
also he has decided to prosecute. You know, there are
those who are making a case, a racial case about this,
that the reason why he was prosecuted is because he
was white and the victim was black, and if it
had been the other way around, it might not have
turned out this way.

Speaker 7 (38:45):
I can't disagree with that. I mean, obviously can't prove that,
but it seems in this prosecutor that's exactly what he did.
He turned us into a political witchhok sort of issue,
went after what. I don't know how you look at
it as a prosecutor, go, yeah, I want to prosecute
that guy.

Speaker 13 (39:02):
I don't know.

Speaker 7 (39:03):
He just saved a few people on a subway in
New York and did his duty, which mostly many of
us wouldn't have the best to do. He instoed up
protecting people, and they decided to prosecute it.

Speaker 2 (39:13):
Amazing.

Speaker 4 (39:15):
It's amazing to me how the other side wanted to
portray this guy as a trained assassin, a drained killer
because it was a United States marine.

Speaker 7 (39:22):
Yeah, well it's because Unfortunately. This is why I get
very frustrated. I'm a conservative, and I like law enforcement,
and I like that we have criminal prosecutions, but sometimes
a prosecutors.

Speaker 13 (39:34):
Stunted, played by the rules.

Speaker 7 (39:36):
Uh and in this case right as a civil litigator,
my duties is zelsie advocate for my clients and the
win cases. The prosecutors have a much higher ethical standard.

Speaker 13 (39:46):
Their job is to do justice.

Speaker 7 (39:48):
They're not supposed to be in this to win cases.
They're supposed to be doing what's right. And I just
don't know how you're a prosecutor and prosecute mister Kimmy.

Speaker 4 (39:57):
I don't understand, based only about this case, Dunn and Biles.
Do you think there's any chance this would ever have
come to trial if this had happened in Texas?

Speaker 13 (40:06):
No, this city.

Speaker 7 (40:07):
I don't believe there's any chance that this would happen
in Texas.

load of milk that leaves a dairy is testing for
a high bacteria account, whether it be you know, list area,
salmonella E coli. The states should be doing this, not
not the federal government. We don't need to, uh, you know,

Speaker 28 (49:20):
We can do it.

Speaker 37 (49:21):
It's not easy, I mean, but the states can do it.
The federal government doesn't need to be doing it. We
test every load of milk that leaves it dairy. Now
we can just add one more test. It's not not
not that big a deal. Where we have to be
careful is in raw milk because it's not pasteurized.

Speaker 30 (49:35):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (49:35):
If the milk's.

Speaker 37 (49:36):
Pasteurized, it kills the bird flu virus, it's not an issue.

Speaker 14 (49:41):
Or the issue is it's in raw milks.

Speaker 7 (49:43):
We have to be very careful with that.

Speaker 13 (49:45):
Uh we we.

Speaker 14 (49:46):
You know, if you're drinking.

Speaker 37 (49:47):
Raw milk now and there's an outbreak of bird flu
in your community or your state, you may want to
just back off of that for a little bit until
we get this under control.

Speaker 4 (49:57):
Well, you don't why why would anybody take the chance. Well,
the people who believe in raw milk believe that it
is a natural powerhouse. It's packed with probiotics, it can
aid with digestion, it can help clear your skin, melonce hormones,
prepair muscles. They think there's all sorts of positive things
associated with raw milk that you don't get from pasteurized milk.

(50:20):
Six ' ten time for traffic and weather together. Used
to be on the farm, sky Mike, you ever have
raw milk? No, I I just can't do that. I
don't know why.

Speaker 2 (50:29):
But eggs, Yeah, just everything fresh is good with me
over there except milk. Let's do the eastlip. No, let's
go to the south side here, South Sam westbound. I
got somebody on your tip line, dude, got Mike head
and westbound belt Way eight. There was a motorcycle accident.
You might want to check on that. Mm okay, yeah,
I'm starting to hear some bad rumblings about this. This

(50:49):
is south sam westbound if you're going from Pasadena to
pair Land. For now, we've got it looks like two
right lanes are getting by. But if they block all this, yeah,
it looks like they're about to block the whole thing westbound.
Let's go ahead and re route. Let's see if your hazardous.
You could take the south loop six ' ten and
I'll find some other reroutes. At the six twenty break,
we've got the Ship Channel Bridge east Loop six ten southbound.

(51:11):
That's a stall. Hopefully he's got it in gear or
got this parking break on. That's the right lane. If

From r KTRH top tax Defenders twenty four hour. Whether
it's under time to check ed with Terry Smith. I
know there's some folks that are probably going to be
worried about flowers and whatever else they have outdoors plants
for this evening. So how far line do you see
the freezing temperatures? How close to Houston could they get?

Speaker 19 (51:38):
Well, well, the freezing temperatures will probably stay to the north,
like even around bush innor Continental. I was checking out
temperatures there overnight and it looks like upper thirties for
the most part.

Speaker 2 (51:53):
So it isn't to the north.

Speaker 19 (51:54):
It's Montgomery County, San Jacino County, Grimes County. Where's that
possible ability if temperatures at freezing or even just below
for a couple hours. So it's not going to affect
a large amount of our listing area. But let me
tell you something, a lot of our plants don't like
being outside when it's thirty eight or thirty five even

(52:15):
so you may want to cover them up or bring
them inside at least for tonight.

Speaker 37 (52:19):
Now.

Speaker 19 (52:19):
It's going to get warmer later in the week, so
the plants will be much happier toward the end of
the week.

Speaker 2 (52:24):
The cool air is on the way, folks.

Speaker 19 (52:26):
We've got some clouds right now, but we'll see that cooler,
dryer air by the afternoon. So a little bit of
sunshine and temperatures aren't going to change much, upper fifties
to low sixties this afternoon. Overnight, most of us will
be in the thirties with those low thirties the freezing
temperatures just to the north of Harris County. Tomorrow low sixties,

Speaker 4 (55:26):
So we have Mayor John Liptmeyer, who has pulled city
funding for the Montrose Bridge lines. He wants to put
that two point six billion towards his new homelessness initiative.
I'm not sure how much funding he's been able to
put together for it, and I'm not even quite sure
what kind of power the mayor has just pull money
from one project and put it into another one. Charles

(55:47):
Blaine joins, US President of Urban Reform. Any idea, Charles
on what kind of mayoral power allows you to just
take money from one project and put it towards your
pet project?

Speaker 16 (55:58):
Yeah, good morning, Jimmy. So that was the big part
of this conversation. When it came up before council. Some
of the council members were saying, they previously approve this funding,
so how can the mayor unilaterally decide to just change
that funding. And so really what was happening was he
came out and said that this was his plan and
then brought forth a change to council to then do

(56:18):
that plan. So he made the proclamation and essentially got
everyone on his side, and then kind of, if you will,
forced council's hand to decide whether they wanted to fund
lights or fund homelessness initiatives.

Speaker 4 (56:28):
Okay, Well, I guess if you're going to look at
it from a practical standpoint, the homelessness issue in Houston's
a bigger problem in bridge lights, right.

Speaker 16 (56:37):
Yeah, I mean i'd argue the same, especially when you
see where we are today. It seems like if you
go to different parts of the city, homelessness is worse
than it's been in recent years, despite folks at the
county and otherwise claiming that it's better. And when you
think about it, two point six million dollars that was
just the city's portion of the funding for the lights.
These lights cost about six and a half six point

(56:57):
six million dollars, and so that's a lot of money,
especially if we can actually address something that's going to
fix the city city wide.

Speaker 14 (57:04):
Now, I hope they actually do.

Speaker 16 (57:05):
You know, we often hear about homelessness initiatives and then
may see some change for a little bit and then
it goes back to normal.

Speaker 14 (57:10):
So I hope it's actually something that's sustainable.

Speaker 4 (57:12):
Well that's a great point because I think most people,
most taxpayers, take a look at these situations and they say, listen,
you know, I want my taxpayer money spent on something
that I can see the results of. I just don't
want to pour millions of dollars into if something as
a band aid approach that doesn't really cure the problem.

Speaker 16 (57:29):
Well exactly, And if you'll recall a couple of years ago,
Sevester MARISUSA Turner did a massive homelessness initiative, you know,
claim they reduced it by like sixty two percent or something,
and you know, put a lot of funding towards it,
and then you didn't really see that materialize on the ground,
although they tried to tell us that we were wrong
and our eyes were relying to us. And so I
think people are hoping that we actually see change from this.

(57:49):
And the program that he's putting together is supposed to
bring together a number of different areas. So there's going
to be city funding, some philanthropic effort from private sector businesses,
hopefully some state fund but it's still a work in progress.

Speaker 14 (58:02):
So we don't know what the final result is going
to be.

Speaker 4 (58:03):
Well, we know it's going to cost a lot of money,
we know that there's a variety of different people who
want to fund it. Do we know what the initiative is,
how do they intend to try to cure the homeless issue?
What programs do they intend to put in place.

Speaker 16 (58:16):
Right what they're saying is that from their perspective, the
big issue that there are not enough constantly available bet
for the homeless, and so they're trying to make sure
that there are more beds available and then use HPD
and other resources to get out to the homeless folks
and tell them what resources are available. Now, I mean,
it sounds a lot like what we've done in the past,
not just in Houston and but in a lot of
other cities as well, and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

(58:38):
I think for some folks it works, and for some
folks it doesn't. And so I mean, I hope that
it's a robust effort that actually does change. But as
far as what I'm hearing now, it sounds a lot
like what has been done elsewhere and what has been
done in Houston before.

Speaker 4 (58:50):
And all that really does is give them a place
to sleep at night. It doesn't cure the issue. They're
still without a home. They're still on the streets all
day long.

Speaker 14 (58:57):
Exactly exactly.

Speaker 16 (58:58):
I mean, this is just a temporary fix until you
get them actually whether it's a drug related problem or
something else, or just get them into a permanent, sustainable home.

Speaker 14 (59:07):
You're still going to have this issue.

Speaker 16 (59:08):
I mean, and this is the same thing that some
other folks were complaining about a couple of months ago,
when the city was looking at a I can't recall
the name of it, but it was an ordinance to
prohibit them from sleeping on certain parts of the sidewalks
in public areas. They were saying, well, this is fine
for our area, but you just shift them to another area.
It doesn't solve the problem permanently. And so I think
that's the thing that people are hoping for. We're going

(59:29):
to spend a lot of money. We want a permanent fix,
let's hope. So Charles Blaine, thank you, President Reformed Charles Blaine.

in particular are getting glee and joy from the death
of Brian Thompson, that United Healthcare CEO. Yeah, he kind

(01:07:32):
of deserved to die, you know, because they're a greedy company,
and he runs a greedy company, and therefore we don't
care if he has a wife and kids, and to us,
he's not a human being. And it would appear that
based on what we've learned about the Ivy League assassin,
that that indeed that you know, the motivation, that's exactly

(01:07:52):
what the motivation probably was. That he was seen as
a you know, greedy corporate head. This kid was radicalized
somewhere down line, probably in college at the University of Pennsylvania.
Don't that that I would love to see that come
out of this. Let's find out who the hell radicalized
this kid. Let's start shunning the spotlight of the people

(01:08:14):
that are causing these assassins. Of course, when you get
this kind of reaction from liberal journalists, you can kind
of you can kind of see where some of the
problems coming from. Right here is journalist Taylor Lorenz. She
was on with Piers Morgan sharing her joy over the
murder of a man.

Speaker 42 (01:08:31):
I do believe in the sanctity of life, and I

Speaker 4 (01:09:16):
So it is and I for an eye as far
as they're concerned, right, because these greedy healthcare companies are
not providing all the coverage that they should. Therefore people
are dying. Therefore they are responsible for the murder of
these people. That that's that's the train, the logic train

train these people are on. Unbelievable that I have to

the value of human life. Whether you want to blame

I think we're going to hover in the upper fifties

It's trade.

Speaker 4 (01:15:02):
It's as old as well, just about his old as mankind,
uh trade and in tariffs as well, I mean the
you know, the Unite. The entire United States government was
financed on tariffs before the income tax came around.

Speaker 2 (01:15:15):
It's true.

Speaker 4 (01:15:16):
That's that's how they raise money for the United States
government was through tariffs. Now do tariffs make things more expensive?

Speaker 2 (01:15:22):
They can?

Speaker 4 (01:15:24):
Is is Trump's tariff in trade policy going to make
things more expensive in this country? Well, that depends, It
depends on whether or not we have a whole bunch
of tariffs or not. Senator John Kenny Kennedy doing a
better job than I can do here of explaining in
his own Cajun wisdom. Uh, you know exactly where Trump

(01:15:45):
is at as far as tariffs.

Speaker 18 (01:15:47):
Well, I guess something.

Speaker 35 (01:15:48):
I are out to answer you this way. There's an
old saying exercise makes you look better naked, but so
does alcohol. And I say that because tariffs are a
little bit like whiskey. It depends on the circumstances. A

(01:16:09):
little whiskey sometimes can make the world look better. Now,
too much will make you sick, it will hurt you.
I have never seen President Trump as this wild eyed protectionist.
I think he's, for the most part, always use tariffs selectively.
It depends on the circumstances. I expect him to use

(01:16:29):
them selectively this time. You can use tariffs to raise money.
You can use tariffs to try to convince your neighbors
to change their policy. We are, after all, the greatest
economy in all of human history. But too often the
experts when they talk about tariffs, they focus only on

(01:16:50):
the impact on other countries. How about less focusing on America?
I mean, if a country is expecting us to open
up our market, our markeage to them, but yet they
won't open up their markage to us.

Speaker 2 (01:17:07):
I think cares can be perfectly appropriate.

Speaker 35 (01:17:11):
I expect the President to use the cares very selectively,
but appropriately, and if he doesn't, will we'll offer our guidance.

Speaker 2 (01:17:20):
Oh he will.

Speaker 4 (01:17:22):
We already have four years of his administration to know that.

The person of interest in the murder of United Healthcare
CEO Brian Thompson has been arrested, with the Thorny's identifying
him as twenty six year old Luigi Mangioni.

Speaker 6 (01:20:56):
Twenty six year old suspect Luigi Mangioni appeared here in
Blair County Criminal Courthouse where he was arraigned on five
criminal charges related to fake IDs and for having an
illegal ghost gun. Mangioni will have a preliminary court hearing
on December twenty third here in Pennsylvania, but until then
he will be held in a jail cell.

Longtime Syrian president Basher alas Sand was forced out of
power over the weekend by rebel forces, leaving the nation
in disarray. Price Features Group analyst Phil Flynn says, while
Syria is not a major oil producer, this could have
a ripple effect on its allies.

Speaker 9 (01:22:03):
I think it's going to put a hit on the
ability of both Russia and Iran to sell their oil,
which should lead to higher prices around the globe, because
if you're getting less oil on the black market, that's
more supply that has to be made up by legitimate sources.

And the cost for that is seventy million to start.
So where is the mayor going to get the rest

Speaker 16 (01:25:05):
I think there are a lot of areas in which

In the eyes of the law, should also not matter
whether you're black. Oh right, seven or eight is our
time here in Houston's morning news. But we, especially in
places like New York. Liberal cities like New York, we
do see people prosecuted differently based on race. It's hard
not to look at the Daniel Penny case and say
that if the situation were reversed, if if the guy
on the subway, the crazy guy on the subway potentially

(01:26:55):
attacking subway writers, was white and the person the good
samari and who came forward was black, there would have
never been any prosecution. Nobody would have ever thought of
prosecuting that particular case. But that is lost on organizations
like Black Lives Matter. Their speaking whatever happened to them,
they're finally speaking out on something. Granted they're on the
wrong side of this one again, but they're speaking out

mentally ill, he had a muffin in fine.

There's black women who were on the subway.

Speaker 2 (01:28:03):
It was mostly people the subway.

Speaker 45 (01:28:05):
What about what a white man during jury, during cross examination,
who said that he was afraid of Daniel nny Neil,
Daniel Penny, the one who poured water onto his head
and said that he was afraid he was a white man.

Speaker 40 (01:28:16):
Okay, so what the Latino man who was holding his arms.

I'm going to be doing a segment later this week

and to that degree, you have a fair point about
the way sometimes the media and the justice system.

Speaker 2 (01:28:47):
Handles but not this case. This case, even the.

Speaker 44 (01:28:50):
Prosecutors conceded Daniel Penny had every right to go hands on,
and the question became, okay, when should he have stopped?

Speaker 2 (01:28:58):
I understand that time frame.

Speaker 45 (01:28:59):
On that from the eight from the DA's office was

Can you not con see that Dan Penny was a
train killer?

Speaker 4 (01:29:07):

And Daniel Penny's supposed to what count one thousand and one,
one thousand and two, one thousand and three up to
thirty and then let go of whoever's getting ready to
attack everybody? Count to thirty seconds, give me a break.

have a sneaking suspicion they're bringing in all the decorative

Social media keeps me in the no.

Speaker 1 (01:34:31):
Good for you news doesn't care what KTRH keeps you informed.
There's a lot going on news radio seven forty KTRH.

Speaker 4 (01:34:42):
Seven twenty three years of our time. See a lot
of red in Texas. Just how deep Red and the
Texas House get. I think we're going to find out
when they finally decide who the next House Speaker is
going to be. Sylviaocanto Junior wrote a story about it
for American Thinker. It's interesting because, well, first of all,
daid feel and obviously realized that he was not going

(01:35:02):
to get the speakership, so he dropped out through his
support behind Dustin Burrows. There's not enough votes for either
one of them at this point. How do you think
this whole thing's going to turn out?

Speaker 46 (01:35:15):
Well, good morning, guys, and thank you for the invitation.
As always, I think it's going to turn out with Cook.
I think Cook is going to be the next Speaker.
He may not have the votes right now, but he
does have the support of a pretty important player, and
that's the governor.

Speaker 13 (01:35:28):
And of course the governor wants to get bouchers done.

Speaker 46 (01:35:30):
Next year, and I think he sees Cooke as his
biggest ally, So I think it's going to be Cook.
I think the numbers will eventually line up for him.
But you're right, as of right now, nobody has the
magic majority to be the speaker.

Speaker 4 (01:35:45):
Guys, Okay, Well, David Cook used to be a dad
feel and ally, So what's the difference between the two.

Speaker 13 (01:35:52):
Well, I think the.

Speaker 46 (01:35:53):
Election, the twenty twenty four election, I think was the
key factor. I think every Republican out there who saw
what happened to those Republicans who didn't support vouchers, most
of them are gone, and they're gone because the governor
ran a primary against them.

Speaker 13 (01:36:08):
So I think that's the key factor. Everybody realized is
that the governor wants.

Speaker 46 (01:36:12):
Vouchers, and Republicans want vouchers, and if you want to
get reelected, you better support vouchers because that's where the
party is right now, and that's where the governor is
and he is the key player, I believe, as well
as the lieutenant governor, but especially the governor.

Speaker 4 (01:36:27):
So is David Cook. Let's take vouchers off the table
here for just a second. How moderate or conservative is
David Cook normally speaking?

Speaker 46 (01:36:36):
Well, he's from North Texas, not far from where I am,
and he's been pretty conservative over the years. I mean,
certainly a lot more conservative than Burroughs has been. So
I think he would be a very conservative speaker. He's
got the majority to be conservative. And this last election
clearly was a success for the Republicans. The state got

(01:36:57):
more red and more conservatives are now in office.

Speaker 13 (01:37:00):
So I think he understands where the state is.

Speaker 46 (01:37:03):
And whatever relationship he had with Feland before, that's you know,
that's okay, But he understands where the state is right now,
and this is the very red state right now after
that election.

Speaker 2 (01:37:14):
No doubt.

Speaker 4 (01:37:14):
So do you think that Bush comes to shove he's
willing to make a deal like Dade Feelan did to
give Democrats these committee ships or or do you think
he will go in the other direction if he ends
up being the speaker and allow the Republican majority to
rule these committees.

Speaker 46 (01:37:32):
No, I think he'll he'll allow He'll allow the Republican
majorities to run the committees.

Speaker 13 (01:37:37):
I think he understands that that's the way to do it.

Speaker 46 (01:37:41):
I think that one of the problems that Phelan had
in the past is he was trying to be too
congenial and too you know, open if you will, to Democrats,
and that ended up causing him trouble. But look, if
you have the majority, you should run the committees. That's
what people vote for. You know, I voted for a
Republican in my state, Reporsen edited and you know I

(01:38:01):
voted for the Republicans to have the majority, and I
expect them to have the majority.

Speaker 13 (01:38:05):
I mean, it's got idea that you're going to share committees.

Speaker 46 (01:38:08):
I mean that may sound real good in the abstract,
but it doesn't work in a Republican state like Texas.

Speaker 13 (01:38:15):
And when you have a governor who's committed to conservative.

Speaker 46 (01:38:18):
Goals, so he better he better not do that, or
otherwise he'll he'll be replaced too.

Speaker 4 (01:38:23):
All right, Sylvia, thank you appreciated Selvio kno Junior joining
us at seven twenty seven. It is time to take
a look at your money.

the DOJ detailed how they obtained the text messages that

the Biden administration fighting the state on barriers has not
stopped the construction.

Speaker 28 (01:42:57):
We have fifty three miles of Texas border all constructed,
with another ten miles under contract. So we're looking at
roughly a little over sixty five miles of border walk
that has been constructed by the sit of Texas.

Speaker 5 (01:43:09):

down five percent. Says they did that whole Gay Pride

month and they had the whole store littered with with
wolf messages and you know, politically correct this, that and
the other for every gay cause in America. You know,
here's the thing we seem to prefer in this country
for the most part, doing our shopping at places where
we have no idea what they stand for from a

(01:47:02):
from a social from a social justice standpoint, right, we
aren't looking for politics at Target or Walmart or Southwest Airlines.
Although I did, I should mention this, I failed to
mention this when it happened. Evidently we had run a
story erroneously declaring the Southwest Airlines was one of those

(01:47:23):
companies who was doing away with his DEI programs, and
they got very upset about that. They wanted you to know,
Oh no, we're all about DEI. So there is woke
as ever at Southwest Airlines. Now, as far as Target goes,
Gerald Storch used to be chair of the Target Corporation.
He also did toys, arrested several other major companies. Here's

(01:47:45):
what he had to say about these companies waking up
to not being woke.

Speaker 2 (01:47:50):
Well, look, you're dealing with two things that are that
are closer related.

Speaker 47 (01:47:53):
One is DEI policies inside of companies, and the other
is what goes on inside the store.

Speaker 2 (01:47:58):
And what's what's happening there.

Speaker 47 (01:48:00):
In both cases, what they have in common is it's
not the role of these companies to get embroiled in
politics and controversy. Inside the companies, I think people wanted
to do the right thing after George Floyd. This is
what everyone else was doing, and every other one's doing it,
so let's do it. And they went too far and
started getting involved in areas that are not appropriate for
a company. And you know, they should be focused on

(01:48:22):
what does it take to run a good business and
give customers what they want. Every day outside, you know,
inside the stores, you saw customers saying, I didn't come
here for a lecture. I don't want to come here
to talk politics. I don't come here to talk about
things that are controversial. I came here to buy my
laundry detergent. Why is this going on when I'm just

(01:48:42):
trying to have a wonderful time and you know, take
my hard earned money and buy stuff, you know, And
here again I think companies lost their way.

Speaker 2 (01:48:50):
You have employees, you know, minor eve.

Speaker 47 (01:48:52):
Employees encourage you to take an active stance and whatever
you believe, you know, you have to tell them no.
You have a small segment of customers always telling you
to push one thing or the other, or boycott this,
or don't do this or do that, and again you
have to just tell them, as a CEO. No, it's
not our role. Half the country wants one thing, half
the other. Don't get in the middle. It's not what

(01:49:14):
we do for a living. Again, seems like common sense.

Who let the dogs out in Liberty County? I think
we know the answer to that. People who don't really
treat dogs like family members like many of us do.
That's who let the dogs out? And they're rumming in
the woods and their impacts and they're some of them
are biting people and others. It's just sad because they're
hungry and they've got nowhere to go. Here's the latest
report on Liberty County's dog problem from KPRC two.

Speaker 39 (01:55:20):
How has this.

Speaker 48 (01:55:21):
Straight dog issue in Liberty County impacted you as a realtor?

Speaker 49 (01:55:25):
As a realtor, it's a lot harder for us to
show properties when we never know what animals are going
to roaming around on.

Speaker 2 (01:55:32):
The property that don't belong there.

Speaker 49 (01:55:34):
It is a risk for our incoming clients as well
as the owners of the homes. We're not getting as
many showings in some of the areas that have so
many loose dogs, as well as other animals that have
been running around late Land.

Speaker 48 (01:55:47):
Recent dog attacks where different people have been bit by
stray dogs or cornered buy an aggressive pack of canines
has drawn concern throughout Liberty County. Have you ever had
a close call or ever countered a dog that was aggressive?

Speaker 42 (01:56:02):
I have not.

Speaker 49 (01:56:04):
I have seen some other people who have. Most of
the time, they.

Speaker 2 (01:56:06):
Are very friendly.

Speaker 48 (01:56:08):
Liberty County doesn't have an animal control or shelter Some
neighbors rescue the dogs themselves by taking them to shelters
in other cities or into their own homes, but neighbors
say that doesn't solve the growing problem. Stelgeon says the
dogs are typically abandoned by owners or dumped into wooded areas,
where they migrate to neighborhoods.

Speaker 49 (01:56:29):
They are a risk for all of us when we're
all out there, but at the same point, they are
just harmless, innocent animals that are just really they're scared.
It will just be like us being out there with
no help.

Speaker 48 (01:56:40):
Here at this gas station in Cleveland, we have seen
several stray dogs roaming throughout this parking lot. They're coming
from this wooded area over here, but they're gravitating towards
some of these food trucks, likely looking for food. We
watched this dog approach Stelgeon's. The lonely and hungry pup
easily let her pet him. Stelgians wishes the county had

(01:57:04):
a shelter that could keep the dog sea. Staalgions was
able to give this dog some food for the night,
but neighbors are hoping that the commissioners will address this
issue during Commissioner's Court tomorrow morning.

Speaker 39 (01:57:17):
That starts at.
