Speaker 1 (00:00):
Seven two hour time here in Houston's morning news. Yeah,
we have a we have a place in Freeport. We
have a little camera. And Elizabeth said, because I'm stuck
here in town, you know, doing shows here on kt
R H, and she sent me this picture of you know,
the snow on the beach in front of the house,
and I'm going, that's just it's so weird. Don't things
stranger than seeing snow in a palm tree? Is seeing

(00:24):
snow in a palm tree and then snow on the beach.
But that's what they got in Galveston and all along
the Gulf Coast, and and and and actually got off
easy compared to other Golf Coast communities in other states.
Mark Henry joins us Galveston County judge, it's it's kind
of surreal to see a picture like that, Judge.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
That was definitely interesting. I have not seen that in
a while.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
Long while. So what kind of what kind of problems
did it cause in Galveston County? And what are conditions
like there this morning?

Speaker 2 (00:54):
Uh, they're probably pretty much just like Cliff described, We've
got a lot of hard ice that's not gonna melt
until starting around nine or ten o'clock this morning, so
we will clear up today, but it will not be early,
so be patient. Stay off the roads if you can,
because that ice and snow yesterday refroze overnight and it's
actually harder than it was yesterday. So the Chema Seabrook

(01:16):
Bridge is closed due to ice, and there is at
least some ice on every bridge we've checked in Galveston County.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
Okay, as far as snowfall totals, was the official snowfall
total for Galveston any idea.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Of the island, I believe they were right around three inches.
The emergency managements in League City where we were right
around four inches, So okay, it was quite significant. My
little girls loved it, but most adults did not.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
Well, the kids all love it because the kids don't
have to go to school, but people like you and
me had to go to work.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
Didn't we exactly correct?

Speaker 1 (01:47):
Yes, okay, So for today, your best advice is people
stay off the roads until things have a chance to
melt a little bit more. Are you concerned all or
have you had any massive reports of pipe ish use?
Because obviously the temperatures well below freezing this morning all
the way down into Galveston.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
Yes, the city of Keema had a main break, probably
due to the temperatures. They have a temporary fix in
place for now, and I'm told they're waiting on some
parts to make a permanent repair. But that's the only
water interruption we've been told about.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
Okay, And of course, for those and I realized that
you're not going door to door checking on beach houses.
But you know, for those who have vacation properties or
second homes in Galveston and the surrounding areas in the county,
what would you advise them to do as far as
making sure that everything's okay as this weather warms back

(02:38):
up again.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
Well, if you'll just give us a chance to get
the ice off the roads, then we encourage you to
go down and check your property and see if there's
any damage or repairs that you need to make. But
like I said, give us till about ten to noon today.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
Well, listen, it wasn't eighteen ninety five. You know how
much snow you got in eighteen ninety five.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
I was listening to you yesterday. I think you said
it was eighteen inches or something.

Speaker 1 (02:59):
Yeah, fifteen inches, see Galveston. Yeah, can you imagine fifteen
inches of snow. What in the world. Rather not in
eighteen ninety five, Mark, in eighteen ninety five, they didn't
get a warning, not as much as we have today. No,
they had no idea what's coming. Unbelievable anyway, Anyway, I'm
glad to hear. So. Things will be back to Norvel
by this weekend and people will probably be hanging out

(03:20):
on the beach. They probably won't be going into the water,
but they'll be hanging out on the beach.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
That's my plan.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
Yes, all right, thank you, judge, appreciate it. Thank you
you bet. Galveston County Judge Mark Henry, seven twenty six
