Speaker 1 (00:01):
About fifty two our time here in this is morning years.
We're still slipping and sliding in some spots, especially south
of IT ten, and now we've got a Grand Parkway problem.
Christina Hadley joins US public information officer at tech Dot.
Just when we thought that maybe the worst was over,
we're still seeing some problems out there.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
Christina, good morning. Yes, you know, unfortunately overnight the temperatures
did drop below freezing and we still had condensation on
the road. So you know, we want to tell our
motor is you know, please be aware of those overpasses
because they're still going to be iced over. You know,
we still have cruise out spot checking and springing Brian
in those locations, but please take your time.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
How effective is Brian against ice If you've got if
you've got a section that's got maybe a quarter inch
half inch of ice, does Brian do anything to the ice?
Is there enough salt in there to melt it?
Speaker 2 (00:49):
Well, it's not going to completely melt. It is to
help prevent the sticking, so you know, it's a preventative measure.
It's not going to completely eliminate it, which is why
we still encourage motor It's not to go out on
the road ways if they don't have to. And also
if you're driving over that location, you know it don't
you can't go in normal speed. You're gonna have to
slow down, especially when you're going over those overpasses in
(01:10):
those elevated areas.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
At one point we supposedly had what twenty two borrowed
snowplows that came to town. Where do where were those
snowplows dispatched? I never did see one of those.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
They were dispatched on our Tier one roadways, you know,
the main roadways that were traveled, but anywhere that they
were needed, we had them on I ten, N sixty nine,
I forty five. You know, twenty two snowplows in the
Houston district, it's going to be, you know, spread pretty thin.
But you know, our guys did a great job, you know,
keeping the rotation going and keeping those plows on the road. Unfortunately,
(01:42):
when that snow is still falling, you know, they just
have to keep going over and over it again.
Speaker 1 (01:46):
I think I think spotting a snowplow in Houston's kind
of like spotting a polar bearer. You'd be so shocked
to see one of those things you'd have to you
want to stop and take a picture. Maybe it's a
good thing I didn't see it.
Speaker 2 (01:57):
Absolutely, this was absolutely a shocker for Houston.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
Where where does this rank? And are there any lessons
to be learned by this? You know, the lesson I
think we're all hopefully learning is that we just you know,
we live in the South, We live in the Deep South.
This is an extremely unusual generational event. It's not something
that is likely to happen again anytime soon, and there's
only so much you can do to prepare for something
(02:21):
like this.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
So definitely a lesson of mother nature has no boundaries
whether we're in the South or not. But you know,
this was a precautionated tale for us to we now
know how to better prepare if if ever this event
ever occurs again.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
Well, what what would you do if you could do
anything differently? What would you do differently?
Speaker 2 (02:42):
You know, I can't complain on high team win. Everything
went well, everybody's mobilized. Well, you know, we had our
neighboring districts that came down from Dallas and Angelo l
Paso to also give us an assist. So, you know,
we can't complain about how things when it was just
an unexpected event that you know, Houston would never dream
what happen.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
Yeah, well, yeah, I guess if you had to deal
with this or deal with you know, the things we
have to deal with when we have a hurricane, which
which which you prefer? I guess at least with a hurricane.
At least with a hurricane. You don't get you don't
have anything frozen on the roadways, right, No.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
No, we don't want either.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
One. Let's just say, I'm please do I'm not wishing
for one. I'm not, I'm not. I'm sorry, Universe. I
shouldn't have put that out there.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
No, don't put it out there. I prefer neither. We
can avoid it neither.
Speaker 1 (03:30):
Yeah, well maybe maybe maybe the rest of our winter.
We've had two weeks of winter so far this year.
Maybe the rest of our winter will be uneventful. Let's hope. So.
But thanks for joining me today.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
I appreciate it, no problem, Thank you you bet.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
