Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, Bob Frand sitting in for Jimmy. One final
segment on this final day of the week, joined by
Cliff Saunders now to talk to Bob Rehack, who runs
the site reduced Flooding dot Com. An interesting story, Harris
County is adjusting the maps that incorrectly showed flood prevention
projects as complete when they are not. Bob, good morning,
good morning. How are you doing well? Thank you very much,
(00:22):
appreciate the time. Tell us what's wrong with these maps?
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Well, they just aren't accurate. They're very misleading. They show
many projects as active and in progress that are far
from construction. Some haven't even been started yet. There was
(00:47):
an ABC expose earlier in the week that showed a
lot of projects they were calling complete that hadn't even started,
you know, they were years away from starting. The fact
is that there's a huge funding shortfall in the county
associated with the floodbund It could be as much as
(01:10):
a billion dollars. That's a crazy amount. That's a crazy amount. Bob.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
It's Cliff Saunders here also with a Bob France this morning.
Here's my question. I know some of these projects that
were supposed to be completed, not completed. The map was
very confusing. These go back six years now. I know
are Jeff Biggs not only did he talk to you,
he talked to the county itself. They say they have
(01:36):
updated the map and that everything looks good.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
Can you confirm.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
That that is false. It's clear that many of the
projects they're talking about are inaccurately categorized. Let me give
you some examples. The Lake Houston Damn project, which was
called complete, hasn't even started yet. They just took that
(02:02):
off the map, so they're showing nothing on that right now.
The Taylor Gully Woodridge Village project is not in construction.
They're applying for a grant, so that's still years away
from from being in construction, and they're calling that active
and in progress. They came with Diversion dis same way,
(02:26):
but they're not even applying for a grant on that one.
The TC Gestured Detention basin on Cyprus Creek, they're not
even going out for a bid on that until the
fourth quarter, but that's marked active and then in progress.
The Champion Forest Attention Basin at Revenue, they're still negotiating
for the property on that, so there's no guarantee that's
(02:48):
going to go forward. They don't provide enough context for
readers to accurately understand what's going on with these projects.
They've been well told about that, and they just leave
the map up the way it is.
Speaker 1 (03:04):
Well, that's the reason we've got you on here, Bob,
because we've got to clarify these things and let everybody
know what the reality is about these maps and where
these projects are. Bob re Hack, thank you so much
for the time this morning. We do appreciate that
