president for the attack in Boulder, Colorado, this week that
injured twelve people.
Speaker 8 (02:06):
Mister Solomon stated that he had been planning this attack
for a year, and he acted because he hated what
he called the Zionist group.
Speaker 6 (02:16):
Yes, Mohammed Solomon is the alleged fire bomber. He's facing
federal hate crime charges, sixteen counts of attempted murder and
a maximum of three hundred and eighty four years in
state prison. Here at home, the attack in Boulder has
our local Jewish leaders worried.

Senate Bill eight closes loopholes and make make sure that
immigration law is enforced.
Speaker 12 (04:03):
CINEBILLIK definitely is another tool in toolbox, and again I
think it's a really good thing to just asking local

say if there will be a special session and has
until June twenty second to veto anything that passed. The
governor is in Houston today to sign Bell reform. He
was in San Antonio yesterday making the Texas Cyber Command

Speaker 4 (07:22):
We're gonna be doing a lot of this, I think
this morning here on Houston's Morning News. Harris County bureaucrats
among the America's highest paid government employees. Nine County employees.
You'll hear a big story from our newscast coming up
with Cliff at the bottom of the hour on this.
We're going to talk about it. I think we're going
to do a Question of the Day on it so
(07:42):
that you can weigh in on this, because after all,
Harris County has about what two hundred and some million
dollars deficit, and that's that was the excuse that Lena
Hildago was using as to why we can couldn't pay
Harris County deputies, why we couldn't keep up with what
Houston was trying to get their deputies paid. They're plenty
high paid people in Harris County. They're just not the
(08:05):
people who are doing the work. Those are not the
highest paid one. There are nine county employees who now
make more than the President of the United States. This
is Harris County employees. Forty five make more than a
cabinet secretary does. Harris County's top officials among the highest
compensated government employees in the entire country. By the way,
(08:28):
when you make more than the president of the United States,
the president's salary is four hundred thousand dollars. Forty five
County employees now receive a compensation that surpasses two hundred
and fifty six hundred dollars. That's how much a cabinet
secretary gets paid. Harris County implemented significant salary increases for
several department has Some got a raise exceeding one hundred
(08:52):
thousand dollars.
Speaker 1 (08:55):
Why why.
Speaker 4 (09:00):
Latest payroll data attained by Texas Scorecard through a public
information request for the twenty twenty four to twenty five
fiscal gear reveals sharp pay races across infrastructure, public health,
and forensic science administration roles. Earning the most is the
chief Medical Examiner and the executive director of the Institute
(09:20):
of Forensic Sciences. Doctor Lewis Arturo Sanchez now earns five
hundred thirty six thousand, one hundred forty one dollars. That
is up ninety thousand dollars from the previous year. That's right,
he got a ninety thousand dollars raise. Other top earners
include Leah Barton, Interim director of Public Health Services, who
(09:41):
got a salary of four hundred fifty six thousand, nine
hundred and seventy six dollars. That's one hundred eighty four
thousand more than the previous year. County engineer K. Saphor
Rahman got paid four hundred seventy nine thousand, eight hundred
thirty five dollars. That's a one hundred and twenty eight
thousand dollars increase. The flood Controlled District Director Christina Marie
(10:02):
Peterson her salary four hundred and thirty four one hundred
and thirty eight up eighty three thousand dollars, and the
list goes on. I could continue to go on. What
will I think really be startling if I'm going to
take a look here at what the average salary is
for these positions across the country. Now, I realize Houston
(10:22):
is top six market in the entire country. We have
a population in the Houston metro area of the better
part of six point seven six point eight million people.
We're big, but but these salaries are even bigger. And
this is just the salary. This is just what they
get paid in cash. This does not include the benefits.
(10:42):
More to come. Five eleven. Let's get to traffic and
weather together. The sky mike's here.
Speaker 5 (10:47):
I smell the burning smell of booties. You just torched,
Jimmy Barrett. Let's go to the West Sam. What do
we got southbound?
Speaker 1 (10:54):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (10:54):
Let me check with you, Tip line seven on three
two point two tips, dude, come on.
Speaker 15 (11:00):
On the tollway westbound, right before the two ninety exit.
Speaker 18 (11:04):
There's a fender bender in the right lane and they're
sticking out in the right lanes.
Speaker 16 (11:08):
Hard to see until you tough that heel.
Speaker 5 (11:10):
Okay, okay, you mean north and southbound? Well, you know, perception, Terry,
it's half empty. But West Sam southbound at two ninety,
that's going to be a stall. And yeah, that is
kind of a dark spot. I think the Trendstar people
have it. There they are, and they're officially calling it
a right shoulder.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
You and me know better. It's a right lane.
Speaker 5 (11:28):
So let's look on the east text now outbound. They're
listing that as pavement repair. Boy, I sure got a
lot of flashy lights. It looks like someone ran into
something right there. This is on the outbound. It's a blur.
We're backed up now from greens val You just passed
the Beltway and toll bridge. Let's quick check on the bridges.
Hartman Bridge looks good now both sides. Baytown to Laporte.
(11:49):
You've got the toll bridge in good shape. Here it
ten to two twenty five and six. Ten's all right too.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
I'm in the.
Speaker 5 (11:55):
USA Rvresorts dot Com traffic center.
Speaker 1 (11:58):
It felt pretty good, Terry. It feels like back in
the calm before the next shoe drops in the woods.
I think he's right about that.
Speaker 4 (12:04):
From mar KTRH Top Tax Defenders, twenty four hour whether
senat Terry Smith, is here a couple of things to
talk about. Saharan dust because it's on its way, Yes,
and that's always a sure signed hurricane season. And number two,
a little blob of something off of Florida in the southeast.
Speaker 21 (12:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 22 (12:21):
And that little blob is an area of low pressure
that likely won't develop into anything, but the National Hurricane
Center is watching it. It's that time of year where
if you get low pressure over warm water, you got
to pay attention to it. It's kind of like a
toddler with a wide open playground. You gotta watch it,
(12:42):
make sure it doesn't cause any trouble. It looks like
it's not going to get any better organized, and I'll
move out into Atlantic, but we'll also keep an eye
on it too. Just for grins and giggles, the Saharan desert,
the Saharan dust, I should say, that's going to be
making its way into a Texas likely later in the week.
That typically does two things. It typically suppresses showers and
(13:08):
thunderstorms from developing, at least it limits it. And as
a result, this time of year, that usually allows things
to kind of heat up. And that's the direction we're going, folks.
It is pleasant this morning, It's going to get hotter
and more humid later in the week. No rain today,
a thirty percent chance of thunderstorms tomorrow, only a slight
(13:28):
chance of getting wet. Temperatures near ninety today and tomorrow,
but by Thursday and into the weekend, you'll notice the
temperature starting to climb.
Speaker 4 (13:38):
Here we go right now, seventy five at your official
severe weather station, News Radio seven forty KRH.
Speaker 3 (13:45):
It's Houston's Morning News, brought to you by New South
Windows Solutions. Now back to Jimmy Barris and the Houston
Morning News team.
Speaker 4 (13:53):
All the info you need to take on the day,
five twentyth the time here in Houston's Morning News. A
little piece of audio, Oh I didn't get to yesterday
on the show I want to get to this morning,
I think is we're sharing with you. Also comes from
Face the Nation. On Sunday, doctor Marty McCarey was on
with the host Margaret Brennan, and they started talking about
the new recommendations for young people and pregnant women for
(14:18):
the COVID vaccine. Basically, they're no longer recommending that, you know,
healthy young people, especially kids and pregnant women, get the
COVID vaccine, feeling the risk outweighs the benefit of doing that,
and of course the pushback from the left, and if
Margaret Brennan is on the left, the pushback is really
(14:39):
quite interesting. You can I'll let you listen to those
two argue about this just a little bit coming up next,
but first, let'sen to traffic and weather together as we
check out a sky mine.
Speaker 5 (14:48):
We've got two sides of I sixty nine with some roadwork,
and you know what, the pretty ladies on me, pretty ladies.
Speaker 1 (14:55):
Helping me this time, I asked Jennifer, what is that
going on?
Speaker 5 (14:58):
At will Clayton Parkway because it sure looks it's like
somebody ran into it.
Speaker 1 (15:01):
No, it's just roadwork. It's overnight stuff.
Speaker 5 (15:03):
And it's a bit of a smash after the after
the Beltway. If you're trying to catch a plane, let's
do JFK instead. Also, you've got sixty nine to the
Southwest Freeway Fan and indown. I promise they'll have this
up any minute now, but we've got some breaks after
Sheppard northbound. Im sky White gets the USA RV Resorts
dot Com traffic.
Speaker 4 (15:21):
Center from r KTRH top tax Defenders twenty four hour
weather center for today party cloudy, breezy, high temperature right
about ninety then mainly cloudy, stray shower, thunderstorm possible tomorrow
in ninety mostly Sunday ninety four on Thursday, current temperature.
He is seventy five at your official severe weather station,
News Radio seven forty KTRH. Glip is here and he's
(15:45):
got an update on some of our top stories this morning.
Speaker 6 (15:47):
Right Jimmy, the wild spending of Harris County Democrats continues
to be exposed. We will explain Angleton police Sergeant J. D.
White was killed on Sunday while escorting a funeral procession.
He was on the job for nineteen years. And Jimmy
ut Austin is going after another quarterback with some good genes.
They already got arch Manning right. Yeah, now they're going
(16:08):
after Gunner Rivers, the son of former NFL star Rivers
Philip Rivers. Yes, get the latest news anytime at KTRH
dot com, Go sark.
Speaker 1 (16:17):
Our next update is at five thirty for.
Speaker 12 (16:21):
Once on are under construction two eighty eight six ten.
Speaker 3 (16:24):
Accidents and alternate next on the ten on seven KTRH.
Speaker 4 (16:31):
All right, it's COVID update. Yes, COVID update. Can you
believe this COVID update. First of all, we have a
relatively new COVID variant out there, Not that many of
you really care about that, because, after all, it's just
a glorified case of the flu. Actually I heard it
compared more to the common cold now than even the flu.
(16:51):
But we are told breathlessly by Today on NBC that
is highly contagious new COVID nineteen variant detected now in
several states across the US, currently making headlines NB one
eight to one, A mutated omikron variant that caused surgis
in parts of Asia earlier this year and recently spread
(17:12):
to the United States. So far fewer than twenty cases.
We got twenty cases in Dinginging they're sounding the alarm
on this one. Every year since twenty twenty, the US
has seen COVID cases spike in June and August, and
twenty twenty five should be no exception.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
The experts say, Okay, here we go.
Speaker 4 (17:34):
The news of this variant, and there's gonna be a
new variant every year, just like there's new variants with
the flu. I mean, it just it mutates. It's what
it does. What it seems to be doing, is it
mutass becomes more contagious, but it also becomes less dangerous.
That seems to be the normal course of most viruses,
and this one doesn't seem to be any different. Doctor
Martin McCarey, though, on today getting a tremendous amount of
(17:55):
pushback from host Margaret Brennan over the idea that they're
no longer are going to recommend the COVID vaccine for
healthy young people and for pregnant women.
Speaker 23 (18:06):
It's been about four years since the original randomized trials,
so we'd like an evidence based approach. Doctor Prescott and
I published this in the New England Journal of Medicine
last week and we're basically saying we'd like to bring
some confidence back to the public around this repeat boosters
strategy theory, because your statement was not.
Speaker 24 (18:25):
About repeat boosters. It says the vaccine is not recommended
for pregnant women, the vaccine is not recommended for healthy children.
Speaker 1 (18:30):
That's differnth on annual booster.
Speaker 23 (18:32):
Yeah, at this point we're going, you know, it is
a booster strategy. People would be getting the updated shot,
so whether or not a young healthy shop. So we'd
love to see the data. We'd love to see that
no datascal level.
Speaker 24 (18:46):
For a parent at home hearing you trying to make sense.
Speaker 1 (18:49):
We're saying, take it aboack to your guys.
Speaker 24 (18:50):
Their child has not been vaccinated. Are you recommending that
their first encounter with COVID be an actual infection.
Speaker 23 (18:57):
We're not going to push the COVID shot and young
healthy kids without any clinical trial data supporting it. That
is a decision between a parent and their doctor. And
just so I don't know if you know these statistics,
but for eighty eight percent of American kids, their parents
have said no to the COVID shop last season. So America,
the vast majority of Americans are saying no. Maybe they
(19:19):
want to see some clinical data as well. Maybe they
have concerns.
Speaker 24 (19:22):
About crowdsource my health guidance. I want a clear thing, right,
we just go with popularity. We're seeing, as you're saying,
data and when.
Speaker 1 (19:29):
We rest satadata.
Speaker 24 (19:31):
Okay, So the CDC data said forty one percent of
children aged six months to seventeen years hospitals with COVID
between twenty twenty two and twenty twenty four did not
have a known underlying condition. In other words, they looked healthy,
So COVID was serious for them.
Speaker 23 (19:47):
So, first of all, we know the CDC data is
contaminated with a lot of false positives from incidental positive
COVID tests, with routine testing of every kid that walks
in the hospital.
Speaker 1 (19:58):
When I go to the ICU, I we.
Speaker 23 (20:00):
Walked to the p We know that data historically under
the Biden administration did not distinguish being sick from COVID
or an incidental positive COVID test. When you go to
an ICU in America and you ask how many people
are in the ICU that are healthy, that are sick
with COVID. The answer I get again and again is
we haven't seen that in a year or years.
Speaker 4 (20:20):
In other words, it's flawed data. It always has been
flawed data. They came out of the previous administration. You know,
people dying from COVID or people dying who just happened
to have COVID but have been actually died from something else,
and it got attributed to COVID. All those numbers got
skewed beyond belief. So yeah, there's we can't trust that data.
(20:42):
Five twenty seven. Time to take a look at your money.
Jeff Bellinger, Good morning to you man, Jimmy.
Speaker 1 (20:47):
Good morning.
Speaker 25 (20:48):
Stocks posted modist games in Monday trading. A rebound and
big tech shares led the market higher, and the major
averages posted advances ranging from a tenth of a percent
to seven tenths percent. Investors are keeping close tabs on
developments in the trade war the White House, as President
Trump is likely to speak to Chinese President she this week.
(21:08):
At the moment, the futures are lower. Right across the board,
Dow futures down one hundred and seventy points. I'm Jeff Bellinger,

Speaker 4 (21:37):
Five thirty is our time here in Houston's morning News.
I'm Jimmy Barrett. Among our top stories that have our
hair's cunning. Has a lot of overpaid employees, Dallas trying
to steal away Houston police officers. And coming up at
five thirty eight, So how much does it really cost
to own a dog or a cat? On average? Twenty grand?
(21:57):
Details in the minutes ahead. You're in Houston's borning News.
Speaker 1 (22:00):
Jimmy, you want some leftovers? Well leftover? What's going one? Well,
it's leftover roadwork last night. You can't put you on, Julie.
Speaker 5 (22:06):
Yeah, you can't put that on a tortilla, dude. He's
decks outbound Willie C. That's two right lanes blocked here.
It's overnight stuff. They should have that any minute now.
And also we're looking at the Southwest Freeway north found
right before you get to the canyon. We've taken out
two left lanes. They'll have this up. Just be patient.
There's about a two minute smash. In fact, I would
(22:27):
stay the course for now. I'm Skymike and the Generator
Supercenter dot Com Traffic Center.
Speaker 4 (22:31):
From our KTRH Generator Supercenter twenty four hour weather center.

Right now, it is seventy five at your official severe

now for the news. Here's Cliff Saunders.
Speaker 1 (22:52):
Thank you, Jimmy.
Speaker 6 (22:53):
Good morning everyone. Five thirty one on KTRH. We're exposing
Harris County Democrats this hour. Judge Leta Hidalgo claims we're
facing a two hundred and seventy million dollar budget.
Speaker 1 (23:03):
She didn't vote to.
Speaker 6 (23:04):
Give deputies pay raises last month, and out Texas Scorecard
reports that county bureaucrats are some of the highest paid
in America. Nine executives currently make more than President Trump.
Speaker 27 (23:18):
Not too surprise, certainly embarrassed that it happens to be
the case. I mean It's frustrating because we're in the
midst of talking about a two hundred and sixty plus
million dollar deficit in the county, and here we are
paying these bureaucrats, I mean, more money than some cabinet secretaries.
Speaker 6 (23:31):
Charles Blaine with Urban Reformed, the highest paid is the
chief Medical Examiner, who makes more than five hundred grand.
The interim Director of Public Health, Leah Barton, makes four
hundred and fifty six k and got a raise up
one hundred and eighty four thousand dollars from last year.
Speaker 1 (23:47):
The INFO received through a Foyer request.
Speaker 6 (23:49):
And remember this, Hidalgo wanted you to pay for her
in three staffers to go to Paris this month. Meantime,
Houston Police just got a raised, but the Dallas Police
Department is still trying to poach our cops with a
new ad campaign.
Speaker 28 (24:04):
It's nothing new around the state. As officers shortages grow.
Speaker 29 (24:08):
Houston, we're already twelve to fifteen hundred downs compared to
what we should be.
Speaker 1 (24:12):
Everybody's going to do what they can to recruit.

Speaker 4 (28:38):
Five oh not that okay, oh never mind five thirty
eight our time here in Houston's Warning News.
Speaker 1 (28:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (28:43):
I find this interesting all the time because this doesn't
surprise me. It really doesn't. But I know it surprises
a lot of people because a lot of people think
that owning or if you prefer, being a parent to
a pet, turns out that it's a lot more costly
than most people think it's going to be. Most people
(29:04):
think if you were to ask them, how much Okay,
you just got a cat, right, how much do you
think it'll cost you to care for that cat for
the next fifteen years? And you think about it. Okay, well,
let's see here we got we got cat food that's
not particularly expensive, unless, of course, you're buying you know,
more of the healthier stuff, and the healthier it is,
(29:25):
the more expensive it is, of course, just like everything
else in life. Then you got litter, right, you got
you're buying litter, and then you're buying you know, you've
got litter boxes, and you've got trips to the vat
and you know all the annual you know, trip to
the vat and vaccines and all that kind of stuff.
So most people think for fifteen years for a cat,
(29:46):
the average came out to a little over fifty seven
hundred bucks. That's how much people thought it would cost them.
For dogs, the average they thought would be about eight
and fifty eight bucks. The real numbers are more than
three times that much, depending on what type of food
you buy. You know how much your vet cost and
how much you spoil them with things like treats. I
(30:07):
think I've had this conversation before. You know, with Swiper.
We buy him dog treats and they are crazy expensive,
but we spoil him and now he expects it. Of course,
caring for a cat actually costs anywhere from twenty thousand
to forty seven thousand dollars of the course of their life.
For dogs is twenty two thousand to just under sixty
(30:27):
one thousand dollars. And that's an average of thirteen hundred
dollars a year for cats or fifteen hundred dollars a
year for dogs. Even a rabbit can easily cost over
one thousand dollars a year to take care of. The
cost for caring for a dog has gone up about
twelve percent in the last three years nineteen percent for
cats having multiple pets. Well, now you're talking dogs and cats,
(30:51):
which we happen to have. Yet I don't even want
to think how much we spend five forty time for
traffic and weather together. I got you beer right here,
Skuy my family. My family has horses. You know you
should pay the vet bills for horses.
Speaker 1 (31:04):
Now it's crazy.
Speaker 4 (31:05):
What does it give me an example of an average
VET bill for a horse?
Speaker 5 (31:08):
Holy well, pretty much what we would pay, you know,
like we're talking eight to one thousand dollars.
Speaker 1 (31:14):
It gets crazy. Yeah. OK, and the feet, of course,
you know, and they eat a lot. They're horses. Let's
go to let's go to the you know what, Let's go.

we will continue that theme for the next several months.
So today, I'm not anticipating any rain. I think we'll
wind up dry thanks to a briefly stronger high pressure
system over us. Temperatures in the upper eighties to load

have some rain of twenty to thirty percent chance of
a shower thunderstorm, and it's mainly in the afternoon, So
you've got that part lockdown. Upper eighties to load nineties tomorrow,
and then we get a little more heat to kick

Right now seventy five at your official severe weather station,

Speaker 1 (33:43):
What you need to know for the day ahead.
Speaker 3 (33:46):
This is Houston's Morning News, brought to you by New
South Windows Solutions.
Speaker 4 (33:51):
Five forty eight is our time here in Houston's Warring News.
The story that is sticking to my crawl this morning
is Harris County bureaucrats among America's high paid government employees.
I want to ask a question of the day about it.
I'm just struggling to figure out what to ask. I mean,
some of this stuff is just unbelievable. I mean, we're
paying Daniel Ramos Santana, Harris County budget director, a salary
(34:15):
of four hundred eleven thousand, two hundred and seventy eight
dollars a year. That's more than the President of the
United States makes. That's more than any cabinet member makes.
And the average salary for a county budget director in
the United States one hundred twenty two, one hundred and
thirty five dollars. The highest paid ones are making maybe
(34:36):
one hundred and seventy thousand dollars. If we're paying this
guy four hundred and eleven thousand dollars a year, that's
about three times one of the more high salaries for
a county budget director. How does this get justified? How
The only way you can justify these kinds of inflated
salaries is if you can somehow show that that's the
(34:58):
going rate, that's what you have to pay to get
good quality people. But clearly that's not the case.
Speaker 6 (35:04):
This is the first time anyway that I've heard anybody
really ask these questions.
Speaker 4 (35:09):
Well, so kudos to you on that, well overdue for
asking the question. Now my question would be, I guess
our question of the day is, how do we fix
the problem. Do we just fire all these people and
start all over again. Do we say, okay, here's the
new salary. We're going to cut that in half. We're
going to pay you two hundred thousand dollars a year.
You will still be amongst the highest paid in your
position in the entire country, but we're not going to
(35:33):
pay you three times the going rate. How would you
solve the problem? Go to iHeart Radio app KTRH number
one on the preset and then you get thirty seconds
with the talkback button. You can hit the talkback button,
first name, where you're calling from. How do we fix
this problem? Just incredibly overpaid county executives in Harris County
(35:55):
five point fifty. Right now, time for traffic and weather
together as we check in again with sky k t
RH listeners.
Speaker 1 (36:01):
The first to know about this problem.
Speaker 5 (36:03):
It's I forty five North Freeway Cypress Woods southbound, and
we've got ourselves a vehicle fire. Hopefully, oh look at that.
Hopefully everybody's okay. The trend Star just found it too.
This is two well, guess where they got that info?

Hey, it's a love song for Taiwan. Okay, five fifty
two is our time here in Houston's borning news. Right,
Taiwan is probably in real trouble. Secretary of Defense Pete
Hegseth saying that there is a plan. China has a
plan for invading Taiwan sometime over the next couple of years,
(38:12):
so Here is what Pete Hegseth had to say in
some reaction from well known China expert Gordon Chang.
Speaker 37 (38:19):
What is happening with respect to China and Shijenping and
they're negotiating strategy right now.
Speaker 1 (38:24):
What are they trying to do well, they're trying to delay.
Speaker 38 (38:27):
They want to go beyond the ninety day pause because
this is a very good deal for China. You know,
as President Trump said, he was worried about what was
happening inside China, so he gave them concessions. And by
the way, this gets them through the Christmas season, because
this is time of Christmas for factories. The problem for
us right now is that we want to talk to
(38:47):
ce Jimping, but ci Jim Pink has lost a lot
of power recently, and that means, first of all, he
can't come to any sort of reasonable relationship with the
United States because that makes him look weak. But also
he very may not have the.
Speaker 1 (39:00):
Authority to do it anymore.
Speaker 38 (39:02):
So really, these talks with c Jinping, while we may
have great hope for them, I don't think they're going
to produce anything of.
Speaker 1 (39:09):
Value to US.
Speaker 37 (39:10):
And Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth with a week in warning
about the imminent threat China poses to Taiwan.
Speaker 27 (39:17):
It's public that she has ordered his military to be
capable of.
Speaker 14 (39:21):
Invading Taiwan by twenty twenty seven.
Speaker 1 (39:23):
There's no reason to sugarcoating.
Speaker 25 (39:25):
The threat China poses is real and.
Speaker 1 (39:27):
It could be eminent. We hope not, but it certainly
could be.
Speaker 37 (39:32):
It seems like he sort of sees his legacy. I'm
talking about Si Jinping as a wartime president.
Speaker 38 (39:38):
Yes, well, he talks about war all the time, and
he is mobilizing all of Chinese society, not just the
military but civilians as well, calling up reservists, taking over
civilian factories so they can turn out items for the military.
This is total mobilization and we need I'm very glad
this Secretary Hegseth said this because you know, normally at
(39:58):
the Shango Laud Dialogue or heg Seth was, you have
all of these kind and polite words from the United States,
And this time Hegseth didn't show sugarcoated at all. He
really laid it out. But the important thing, Jackie is
now that he said that this could be imminent. Where
are the actions of the president of the United States
and the Secretary of Defense himself to get us ready.
Speaker 4 (40:21):
I'll get us ready for what, right, get us ready
for war. I'm pretty sure President Trump doesn't want to
get into a war with China. Not saying he wouldn't
be willing to do it if he had to do it,
but I'm pretty sure he doesn't want to do that.
So is he hopeful that we can talk China out
of that? Is he hopeful that by presenting, you know,
(40:44):
a level of toughness that the Bide administration wouldn't, that
China could be convinced not to go after Taiwan. You know,
so far, we are getting very good signals from China.
You know, we supposedly, you know, they met in Switzerland,
came up with this trade agreement, and so far China
has done its best job to break it. They and
they won't even admit that they're breaking the agreement, but

sheriff How did jeff great to be? Back on how are?
You terrific?
Speaker 1 (57:12):
Thank You.
Speaker 4 (57:12):
It's jimmy by, the way what do you think here?
Is this does this create more work? For you and,
if so is this the kind of work you want to?
Speaker 1 (57:19):
Take, on.
Speaker 12 (57:21):
Well, of course as, you mentioned, You know i'm down on,
the border so we already do a lot of. Border
work but this part of it is really is expanding
our scope of work in the peace of legislations giving
sheriffs three different OPTIONS to uh to. Work with they
can either be part of what's called the jail, enforcement
model the warrant, service model which which you have kind
(57:43):
of mentioned and doesn't create really any work other than
than just issues. And paperwork and then thirdly ONE that
i don't see a lot of, shriff participating which is
a task, force model where you actually join a task
force and go out and look for the.
Speaker 1 (57:57):
Criminal agents.
Speaker 4 (57:57):
You Know of i'm hearing you say, the Paperwork and i'm,
kind of, you know laughing a little bit, to MYSELF
because i know that in, law enforcement probably the worst
part of your job has got to be. The paperwork
there's so much, paperwork involved, you know even even if
you're just pulling somebody over to give them a citation,
for something all the paperwork is involved in doing that
that probably the last thing you want is. More Paperwork, Right,
(58:20):
well jimmy let me tell you, what since, OF course
i spent twenty six years AS A us, orbitral Agent
and i'd still be one had our shri if not
passed away out Here In dryll COUNTY when i.
Speaker 1 (58:29):
Took OVER but i, tell you.
Speaker 12 (58:32):
On the, state SIDE when i process an alien, smuggling,
load man it's a lot, less paperwork and it takes
a lot. Less time there's a lot a lot less
OF the biera. Credit paperwork so actually it's been an
easy it's been an easier transition than you might think
at the.
Speaker 4 (58:49):
Local, level well that's good. For sure so at the
end of the, day here obviously this is a big
help to border patrol and to even bigger HELP. To
ice when when you can execute these federal immigration warrants
and and help them out, with this certainly be, some
alternative which is when you couldn't, do that what? Would
happen you'd either give them dice or just let. Them, loose,
(59:13):
no no you're that. Latter part just let. Them loose
and and that's, a big.
Speaker 12 (59:17):
Big thing why wouldn't, you know a local shriff's officer
or other entity that has somebody in their custody that's
committed to crime material legally not want to cooperate with
the federal government and turn those those. Individuals over what
it may occur is having somebody in your jail a little,
more time which will, you know again create maybe a
bit more of a, you know having to shell out.
(59:38):
Some money BUT as, i understand there will be some
money tied to this bill for shriff's departments based on,
you know their their, city size so it won't be
necessarily one of those. Unfunded requirements and uh again it's
it's gonna be a. GOOD thing i couldn't see why
shrift wouldn't want to participate unless, you know they live
in a community that doesn't agree with it and they
(59:58):
want to you stay. In office but other, than that
it's gonna be a. Good thing it really Is for
texas And. For, americans twice ser thank you for. Your time,
Appreciate It Terrell. County sheriff That. Eas cleveland it's six.

Speaker 4 (01:27:43):
That's for anybody that's had To Fly Into newark international
airport for the, last few months they've had a runway
shut down and had restricted some of the flights because
of radio problems on the things that. They, were having
evidently and this this just feels weird, to say it
(01:28:03):
but evidently they think they've solved the problems and they
are reopening the runway that have, been shut down and
they're increasing the amount of flights Allowed into new work
and at least for the, last few days things have
been running pretty much.
Speaker 1 (01:28:18):
All On Time What.
Speaker 4 (01:28:22):
Transportation secretary sean duffy Along with the united spokesperson taking
a victory lap. Over this yesterday.
Speaker 1 (01:28:31):
You gotta. Be, potted up okay let me try. Hitting,
It Again hi katie carroto.
Speaker 45 (01:28:37):
From pix eleven so you Had to particularly united, cancel
flights voluntarily and that is with. One runway down so
now that you've added, this runway back can you really
can you start adding? Flight flights back is that in the.
Speaker 40 (01:28:53):
In the foreseeable, future they are so we the schedule
is Now built starting june fifteenth at thirty four twenty,
eight until then but the airport's going to easily be
able to handle the twenty eight because the.
Speaker 1 (01:29:03):
Runway's back early but once it's back.
Speaker 40 (01:29:05):
To starting, to june fifteenth the airport is scheduled at thirty,
four per day and again that's what's in the, Selling
schedules today so if you're buying a, ticket this summer
you can have confidence that. That's THE schedule and i
think we'll be able to gradually ramp that up by
the time we Get out to october and look.
Speaker 1 (01:29:22):
At the data but.
Speaker 40 (01:29:23):
We're more confident and the Other thing that united is
done is, flight bigger airplanes so we'll, have fewer flights
we have, fewer regional jets and we're flying bigger aircraft
in to keep the number of seats for customers similar
to what.
Speaker 1 (01:29:34):
It was before but the schedule. Is, now set okay
just to.
Speaker 2 (01:29:38):
Add to. That we have we.
Speaker 46 (01:29:40):
Have three problems one the runway was getting rebuilt and
again today were celebrating. Thirteen days early we had, a
telecom issue is that new, fiber is laid but it has.
To be tested and then we have the staffing issue with.
Air traffic controllers so all of those things on a
rolling basis are going. To come online and, as that
happens we're going to build expand the capacity.
Speaker 1 (01:30:01):
Of the, airport but.
Speaker 46 (01:30:02):
Again you can't snap your fingers and make it, happen
really quickly because these things take longer than a week
or two or.
Speaker 4 (01:30:09):
Even, a month okay but. We're making. Progress that's good
and for those of us who have a flight that's
going to go through new work here in the next,
couple of months it's good to hear right that you'll
be able to maybe get to where you. Need to
go seven ten time for traffic, and weather together we're

Houston's born news we Are Joined, by rosie jerome President
Of The, holocaust Remembrance. Association and rosalie just another tragedy
that you would like to you would hope to think
could have been avoided with better planning, or better monitoring
or for whatever reason we want to. Come UP with
but I Think what Tom Homan the borders are had
to say yesterday, was rather startling, and quite frankly it
(01:35:29):
is quite quite, likely the truth which is this is
the tip. Of the iceberg we have a lot of
unvetted people in this country who Mean harm to jewish
citizens and are not afraid to. Carry out attacks how
does the local community? Reacting to this are we Concerned
here in houston about? Potential soft targets of.
Speaker 21 (01:35:48):
Course We're concerned the jewish community is very very upset
worldwide And. Especially in, America you know i'm not only
the founder and President Of, holocaustter members association but also
The descendant, of holocaust survivors and most of my relatives
were turned in. By their neighbors i'm talking about the
(01:36:10):
rest of my family were burned in The. Ashes of
Auschwitz and, in october seventh in, TWENTY twenty three I
was in israel with my daughter and grandchildren, running FROM
rockets and i saw the fear. In their eyes we
experienced firsthand the, terror that day and unfortunately the silence
of many in the world, that followed it and The,
loud Anti jewish anti israel rhetoric that has exploded on our.
(01:36:34):
Campuses and worldwide and What, happened in boulder where a
coward used a flamethrower, of All things considering holocaust, MEANS
burnt offering i mean the fires of the crematoria To
attack elderly jewish people, walking in prayer one of Them even.
A holocaust survivor this is NOT a. Random i act
(01:36:56):
it's part of a growing violent. Pattern of hate and
yet there's sleeper cells all over our city and all.
Over our country since you're talking about this refugee or,
this immigrant SITUATION you know i have A, friend who's
egyptian and she told me that there Are signs in
egypt that's, on the stores some of the stores that

say no Dogs and, no jews. Allowed you know following
the MURDERS, in D c pro palestinian social media accounts,

a global intifada and this. Is the result and, we
say again this, is not, activism it's Hate and the
west has to wake up before. It's too Late And
(01:37:39):
The holocaust remembrance association strongly condemned and of course everyone
in Most of the jewish community worldwide and especially, in
our country this Rise in anti we condemned the Rise
in anti Semitism and anti israel Rhetoric across, the western
world and are especially, disturbed by, the of course the
violent rhetoric and celebrateratory social media posts following the murder.
Speaker 4 (01:38:02):
OF innocent people i don't, know ABOUT you but i
find particularly horrifying the inability, of some people mainly on,
the progressive left to call this, what it was. A
terrorist attack they didn't want to use the word what
else would you use?
Speaker 21 (01:38:19):
TO describe, it i mean IT took the fbi to,
finally say it and even to use the, man's first
name sorry to. Say you know over nine Three hundred
anti semitic incidents were reported in twenty twenty FOUR, in
the us the. Highest ever recorded This is. Post october,

one hundred and, forty one dollar. Nice round figure five hundred,
thirty six thousand one hundred and forty one, dollars a
year and gave him a ninety thousand dollars raise from. The,
previous year yeah it kind of is. About the money
joins To Talk about Charles Blaine. From urban reform this is,
(01:54:16):
very eye opening? Is it Not this this texas scorecard
article where they've got the payroll data through a. Public
information request we're not, just overpaying people. We're overpaying people
we're paying people more than We paid the President Of,
the United states.
Speaker 1 (01:54:31):
For, god's, sakes yeah yeah good morn thanks.
Speaker 27 (01:54:34):
For having me, AND you're, right I mean and i
can't imagine that the responsibilities and their day to day operations,
are more important heavier Than what the president have you.
Speaker 1 (01:54:43):
Guys says has.
Speaker 20 (01:54:44):
To deal with and also this comes.
Speaker 27 (01:54:45):
On the heels of a very heated and contentious fight,
that the deputies both constable and sheriff's Deputies Had with
commissioner's court to try to get. Raises for them and
so now we're seeing that all these people are being
paid in the, hundredths of thousands some of them getting.
Speaker 20 (01:54:57):
Six figure raises.
Speaker 4 (01:54:58):
It's, just unbelievable well here's one that really stands Out
To the interim Director Of The, Public Health Services Interim
director leah barton four hundred and fifty six nine hundred
and seventy six dollars one hundred and eighty four thousand
dollars more than. The previous year these are increases that.
Are unheard of and the thing that really stands out
(01:55:19):
is these salaries we are paying these officials, are generally
speaking up three or four times the national average of what.
Speaker 27 (01:55:28):
That, position pays absolutely you would not see these salaries
or these increases in. The private sector, and you know
another one that's shocking is, the interim director the, interim
county administrator who's getting four hundred and. Eleven thousand dollars
because when you, think about it some of these positions
not only did these people they're not like it wouldn't
make it okay if they were, lifetime bureaucrats either but
they're not even like lifetime bureaucrats who spent thirty years
(01:55:49):
and They make this the county administrator position was created
years less than, five years ago and so this is,
a new department a new, administrator all together and yet
we're paying this.
Speaker 20 (01:55:59):
Amount of money it's just, for the director that's not for.
The entire department.
Speaker 4 (01:56:02):
So, that's crazy yeah Here's the part i'm trying, to
figure out though we're paying all These Executives. In harris
county these incredible salaries with incredible raises that are far
more than. The commissioners themselves why are the commissioners approving
raises in some cases that are more than they actually make.
Doing their, job you know it's a hard.
Speaker 27 (01:56:23):
QUESTION to answer i think one of the it was
kind of ENLIGHTENING back in i Guess it was january
when the vote Came Up before commissioner's court to increase
The Salary For, robert roberto trevino the Director Of The,
toll road authority by.
Speaker 20 (01:56:34):
Thirty nine percent and the argument was that he has a,
very you know it's. A heavy job he's got a
lot of work to, do over there and he does,
a great.
Speaker 27 (01:56:41):
Job you know And to give lena, credit for once
she was the only one to speak out against that and.

Vote against it but he got a thirty nine percent.
Speaker 27 (01:56:49):
Increase this year in the argument was that the task
that he is asked to undertake is just so significant that.

Know when we look at the services, IN the county
i can't imagine that people genuinely feel well that the
services they're getting are worth the amount They're paying for
these administrators.
Speaker 4 (01:57:03):
And, The, bottom. Line charles nobody it's not like anybody
else can steal these people. Away from us nobody can
compete with these salaries. To begin with if these people aren't,
going to leave they're not in, Danger, of leaving.
Speaker 39 (01:57:15):
No.
Speaker 27 (01:57:15):
NOT at, all, i mean listen the only thing they're
probably gonna want is a more high profile job. Or more,
Money You know harritts county is the third. Third largest
counties you're not really getting much. Bigger THAN that and i,
Doubt Other counties cook county or any other county out
there is really going to offer any more than what.
They're getting here it'll probably be. Roughly the, same, and
so yeah these people are kind of outside of the
realm of being threatening. To be poached that that was
(01:57:38):
part of the conversation with the director of. The toll
authority they said the city was looking, to poach him
so we've got to give him a thirty.
Speaker 20 (01:57:43):
Nine percent increase but that was based on just kind
of word of. Mouth and rumor there was no actual.
Docuentation for, it so.
Speaker 4 (01:57:49):

that much go ahead and take, Them, all right, Charles
