Speaker 1 (00:01):
Yeah, lunch timers. This is the Matt Thomas Show, the twelve.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
Oh two at inch Town. Damn twelve oh two. I
don't think we hit our brakes on time here on
this station. Good afternoon, everybody, and what's happening lunch timers
and some Monday edition of the Matt Tommy Show with raws.
This this is Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (00:21):
Cross the field.
Speaker 4 (00:24):
Here's love to the end zone, diving cats. Where to
catch it is by.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
Craft for the score here it is mixing round the
end and end put a touchdown. Took two plays to
bring it home. They get to play in the books now.
Speaker 5 (00:42):
They don't challenge it a time they.
Speaker 6 (00:43):
Go long, they don't.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
They get the completion near the one yard line.
Speaker 7 (00:48):
Touchdown.
Speaker 6 (00:50):
Don't take me and the wicks.
Speaker 8 (00:52):
We got the forty line here, collapse the edges and
force it back inside.
Speaker 4 (00:57):
Here's mixing, mixing fines his way to the the zone.
I don't thought they used to touchdown.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
It's a great adjustment.
Speaker 6 (01:04):
Second and goal.
Speaker 4 (01:05):
From eight yards out, right back.
Speaker 6 (01:09):
To kick cups.
Speaker 2 (01:09):
No one there for him this time.
Speaker 4 (01:12):
Tuxdown Green Bay hit his first ever touchdown reception ball
on the veteran just came here on Wednesday. He's got
this to win it wo Snap the kid and his.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
Good The Texans almost gave Jordana Love a bad name.
He saw gave him a good name. They ca him
a good name. The late fourth quarter drive and by
the way, props the holder for the Packers. The low
snap gathered, it flew it banged it through and the
(01:44):
Texans fall in the Texans fall. Not a terrible loss,
not a terrible loss when they would have but I
mean they have had But I mean if in the
categories of losses, I think thirty seven to zero is
a bad loss. Okay, I think the Vikings loss was
a bad loss. So they didn't get their kick, but
they weren't going to do that or it shouldn't have happened,
or wouldn't have happened, or couldn't have happened, and it
(02:05):
didn't happen. M you got a lot of layers there.
So yeah, battle Riad's in a tough spot today, his
beloved team. And you don't have a YouTube page because
you actually have a successful radio career. I mean I
should actually start up a YouTube page and what would
be called battle Red Ross's battle Red Blog VLOGLOGA. I
(02:27):
would subscribe, you would absolutely. I always listen to podcasts.
I fall asleep, I figured listen to you for a
few minutes, maybe fall you're right to bed, It would
be for sure, for sure, all right. I hope you
guys are in a good mood today.
Speaker 9 (02:39):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
We have a very I mean very busy show. In
terms of meaty topics. Your beloved Texans fall to the
Green Bay Packers, close game game that could have easily
gone the Texans way if not for a couple of
key things. An overall horrific play on the offensive line.
C J Stroud little more human this week? But how
(03:01):
much does that on him not making the right decisions
or him having absolutely no time to throw the football
for a better part of three hours running for his
life for four quarters. Isn't it crazy how the offensive
line can be commended for it's offensive Now, granted, some
of that is Joe mixing cutbacks. I mean that guy
cuts left, Ziggs goes zigs left and Zag's right. I
mean as good as anybody. It's like Aaron Foster Good.
(03:23):
He's got great vision, absolutely yeah, and explosiveness and he
is a very very key They're not going anywhere in
the playoffs. If Joe Mixon is hurt, I'll say that
the drop off him to Pierce is going from like
a keem Elijahwan to Chuck Nevitt. Oh, it's not that bad,
Damian Pierce. Chuck Nevitt. He had like a fifty yard
(03:46):
run last week.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
My way.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
If any of you know how the Chuck Nevitt is,
that's that's a great pull by me, and I'm much
appreciated by you. If you remember who that is, Serge Twicker.
Would that be a little more of a closer reference. Uh,
I'm trying to think of a backup center that was
actually decent for the rocket to Kim Bae Matumbo as
(04:08):
a rocket. Okay, very good. Now that's the like the
Kim baby needs better run than that. He's better than
Damian Pierce. Sorry, Damian Pierce has a nine hundred yard
season under his belt. But that was a long time ago.
Two years ago. I was last time you got your haircut.
He had a good season. No, that was like, wow,
that's been like seven years since I got my haircut
at this point, Damn, I'm uberbougie when it comes to
(04:28):
getting my face shaved up. In my hair. What does
that mean that I go have it, I have it shaved,
I go get it done at a barber shop. Really,
I don't do it myself, okay, And you don't get
it at all. So it's like, no, I get trimmed,
look like it. But that's fine. I'm sure it's great. Yeah,
who doesn't trimming? It's wherever I go.
Speaker 9 (04:45):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
I don't care. And they're like, do you want how
much you want off? You say no, no, just a
little snip, little, I just take a few inches. You've
been taking a lot of inches apparently. I just go
in there and I asked her to take a few inches. Yeah, okay,
all right, here's how the program works. We are largely
open line today because we've got a lot of folks
that want to give their two cents worth. Isn't it
crazy how Bobby Slowid goes from or be lucky to
(05:09):
keep them around one year because the offense was so
magical too. Let's fire Bobby slowd. It is the lowest
of lowest hanging fruit, I'm serious. In sports is the
firing of coaches or assistants. It happens all the time
with us talking astros doesn't happen in the NBA because
you largely don't know who NBA sys and coaches are.
But it happens all the time, and base and whoever
(05:30):
the hitting coaches, and you always mispronounce their name or
don't know who they are. Whoever the pitching coaches, gotta
fire them or you gotta fire the manager. And then
you got to sit here, you know now, Bobby Slog
should be looking for work today. According to some Texans fans,
what what is the main beef with Bobby Slog this time? Oh?
Just uber conservative play calling didn't make the plays late
in the game kind of questionable. That last ride where
(05:52):
they got the field goal was kind of ill called.
It was wimpy, But I mean was that his call?
Was he told to run it? We don't know second
down because if you listen to uh, what's what's CJ's
full name? A Coleridge banad strapped the fourth that guy
he says they were going for the field goal. Meanwhile,
(06:13):
Demiko said after the game going for the win. It
didn't seem like they were going for the win. And
we'll get a further play calls. Yeah, we'll get a
further clarification, he's going to meet with the media. Demikilo
is at two thirty today. We'll have some of that
fort So if those were his play calls, if those
are if that was if Bobby Slowk had full autonomy there,
and then they decided to run on first and second down, Yeah,
that was weak. That was in the moment I was saying,
this is you're playing for a field goal when they're
(06:34):
going to have it's the NFL. If they have almost
two minutes left in time just to get a field goal.
And by the way, when you're down and your back
are against the wall, you get the fourth down every time,
you get four downs to get to get a first
down every single time, and they're going to have at
least one time out and only need a field goal.
And I thought they were going to lose that game.
I thought they should have gone for the touchdown, They
(06:55):
should have gone for six. I would have liked to
see play action on first down. Let me ask you this, though,
and I don't disagree with you, but to play Devil's advocate,
if you are in field goal range, yes, and let's
say all of a sudden, you go to the play
action or you just throw on first down incomplete, stops
the clock, yes, second down, stops the clock, yes, third down.
(07:17):
Then you would then probably run the football to at
least green Bay to burn a timeout. You're still giving
green Bay probably about a minute forty five with two
timeouts remaining, right, And that's what they had with with
one timeout. So it's the same it's the same result.
It's the same result because you only took eight seconds
off of that clock if you run, run. They only
took eight seconds off in those two runs, so you're
(07:38):
not taking any time off the clock because they have
their full Because if they had two or one time out,
I'm on board with it. They had all three of them, Yeah,
because the step back drop back probably would have taken
as much time. Then just hand the ball to Joe
Mixon and have those two negative yard plays. So yeah,
I knew. I knew when they were settling for the
(08:01):
field goal it wasn't gonna be enough because the game
was in Green Bay. Loves had a lot of fourth
quarter drives. He's got a big arm. Textan secondary had
been pretty badly bruised up except for the interceptions, which
again I think we're really poor. Dardan Love can make
some poor throws. He can really try it. I don't
know if it's athleticism or he thinks he can. He's
got that Brett Farv. I've got the fastest fast ball.
(08:23):
Yeah yeah. That guy Doug Russell that we had last
week says sometimes he'll show a little Brett Farv, the
little gunslinger. Yeah, look at it. We heard the highlight
of that Tucker Craft touchdown that he made that was
inches away from being picked or being tipped up into
the air, but it was a perfect throw and it
went into Tucker Cruft's Craft's hand, who made a fantastic catch.
(08:44):
And then yeah, he makes the high risk, high reward throws. Yep.
All right, so here's what we got going today. We've
got Texans Patriots breaking it down like a mudd. Also,
your hooligans in Austin couldn't behave themselves to getting their
asso again. Yeah, yeah, you're you can't be selective, not
in this student section. But there were there were adults
(09:05):
doing it too. I'm sure had to been too many,
too many thousands of water bottles were out there for work.
It did work, and it was really the the right
call was made. It was absolutely not a pass interference.
But the Shenanigans cost the University of Texas. I don't
know one recruit, did it half recruit? I don't think.
(09:29):
So let's explain that. Coming up Yankees Dodgers, I gotta
pull question out about who you're rooting for. Let's go
Yankees or let's go Dodgers. A lot of animosity towards
either selection. The w NBA Ross ends its championship season
last night with a Game five, and I didn't watch
any of it because most American didn't watch any of it.
I watched actually the fourth quarter in overtime, all right,
(09:50):
and there was a horrific call made. First of all,
there were two horrific calls that basically the coach of
the Mercury the Links basically called out the referees. I
don't think in my entire life, Ross, I've seen a
final game of anything where the officiating was just they
were throwing every official unto the bus. That's what we
(10:12):
do in sports. That's how the w we know the
WNBA has arrived. Yeah, and then we have booing Deshaun Watson, Okay,
and your take on that, whether it was good, bad,
or indifferent. Now there's a video circling, which I believe
is erroneous, correct fake. But there was some booing, okay uh,
And Jameis Winton of all people, went to a Cleveland
(10:35):
News reporter and just spoke her little his soul out
on how bad that Deshaun was being treated. He defended
the predator. Yeah. So we got a lot to get
to get to seven one three two one two five
seven out seven one three two one two five seven
out of your Texans are five and two, could very
easily be six and one. But I thought, as when
(10:56):
Ross agreed with me, played it a little too not
a little two, significantly more conservative they should have. And
we're inconsistent. And on the final play from center, you
run twice, you might as well run a third time.
If you pass twice, then run a third time. It
just was. It was a ill timed drive just to
(11:18):
get the three points you had. Basically when you got
as close as you did seven one three two one
two five seven ninety seven one three two one two
five seven nine zero word right now for Big City Wings.
Congratulations to Sam and his crew at Big City Wings,
A thirteenth locations at thirteen or fourteen, I was loose
tracked because they're so damn popular, uh Kingslon Boulevard out
(11:38):
in the Kadi area. I mean, they are just taking
over the wing industry. So if you are looking to
find a great place, whether it be in the if
you live northeast, south or west, to enjoy wings, it's
one dollar chicken tenders today at any of the I
believe how fourteen at Big City Wing locations. That's how
popular they have become. And I want you in torode
(12:00):
is I want you to please do me a favor
and enjoy those one dollar chicken tenders. You enjoy those
big bruise as well. You will enjoy everything that is
the experience of Big City Wings. In fact, that Big
City Wings is located now on Kingsland Boulevard, Big on Wings,
big on Sports, big on one dollar chicken tenders, It's
Big Citywings dot com.
Speaker 1 (12:19):
What more.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
Matt Thomas now.
Speaker 7 (12:24):
On Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (12:35):
We have not allowed Ross to have a water bottle
in the studio today for obvious reasons. How do I'm
throwing it at me? Why would I throw it at you?
Because are you making bad calls? Texas fans? Apparently just
our babies and want to throw bottles on field and
can find two hundred and fifty thousand dollars, which will
cost you half a recruit, maybe a quarter recruit. How
does it cost a half a recruit? What are you
(12:56):
talking about? Well, I mean that's money that could have
gone towards the recruit. Oh, oh, I get you. That
was That's where the joke is coming from. I don't
think it's going to affect recruiting. Much's not. It's not.
I still think your team's playing for the championship. I'm yeah,
I ain't scared.
Speaker 3 (13:10):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (13:10):
First of all, the moment when they were throwing all
those water bottles on the field. That was embarrassing and
and poor behavior and just unbecoming of what you expect
of the the Texas Longhorns fan base. We totally expected.
Yeah it was before. I don't remember I point out
what happened before the last hundred years. If you said
it's totally expected, no, no, I because there it's Uh,
Texas fan isn't totally entitled. It's Oh, it doesn't listen
(13:33):
to authority. It is like eighteen nineteen year old drunken kid. Well,
I don't know, kids aren't drinking these days. Right, No,
they're not. They're vaping whatever, they're big time vaping. Okay,
well they're vaked out of their minds they whatever they're doing. Yeah,
it was totally uh boorish bush. And I'm just respectful.
I love the term bush. It was I was poor behavior.
(13:57):
It was embarrassing, and I was embarrassed. And apparently, and
I don't follow its account, but barstool long horns, which
I don't. Every school has a long horns, even schools
nobody cares about, like the cougars, and people care about
the cougars.
Speaker 9 (14:09):
We played it.
Speaker 2 (14:10):
We played it two thirty on Saturday. How to Go
not well, although airhead was nice. Yeah, you in ninety feet, No,
I took you asked it earlier. You're such a fraud,
I asked. You said, what was a legiti crist of
the legitately twenty five thousand people? But I don't what
they announced, but it was legit twenty five thousand. Okay,
Now I really want to go there for a chief
scheme though, because there was just not the same energy.
(14:33):
There was plenty of empty seats, so it wasn't like
it was so you could have had sections to yourself
I'm sure. Yeah, which I always I spent the fourth
quarter because I was bored looking around, going why are
these two people starting board in the fourth quarter? Score fourteen?
Speaker 10 (14:48):
Are you.
Speaker 2 (14:50):
Okay, Connor? I don't need that from you. I'm Missouri
this weekend. Hey, they won, they beat Auburn. Yes they did.
I was watching that game.
Speaker 3 (14:58):
I was.
Speaker 2 (14:59):
I texted Connor after Massou took the lead. I didn't
want to text them before. Yeah. By the way, did
you get a text for me at all this weekend? Nope? Thankfully? Yeah,
be respectful. Yeah, Texas lost. They didn't play well. They
got punched in the mouth at the beginning, and they stabilized,
but it was a little too little, too late. Yeah,
and Auburn's defense and Auburn George's defense number eleven and
number thirteen. I know who those guys are, but I
(15:19):
feel like I should probably get to know them a
little bit better because those are monsters. I don't want
to talk about it. You're off. Yeah, who had a
ors offensive line? The Texans or the Texas Longhorns? Bad? Yeah.
I was watching a lot of high pressure rate this
weekend when I was watching football. Yeah, so you didn't
go you you feel better that you didn't go, or
are you still issued a little bit better? But still
(15:41):
the atmosphere would have been great. I would I would
not have thrown water bottles onto the field. And that
was I mean, that was just that was embarrassing. Well,
you know, it's an embarrassing moment of the program. It
really was. And if in defense there's no defense, well,
I mean my point, and I'm seeing defensive that Texas
like other schools, have done that. I mean, Texas texts
lived on throwing to tea is on the field for years. Right,
(16:01):
people throw stuff on the field all the way. You're
supposed to be better than those ingrades from Lubbock, and
they were no better than them on Saturday. That was embarrassing. Yeah,
that's it.
Speaker 3 (16:09):
I was.
Speaker 2 (16:10):
It was a sad sight for me. Honestly, it is
what it is. But uh, I'm blaming the kids, you know,
this generation of kids. I know I'm trying to raise three.
Well you know what, I'm blaming the parents of this generation. Yeah,
blame me. So I'm blaming you know what, I'll take
that the brethren raising all these kids the wrong way.
They're soft, they're angry, they're throwing water bottles onto the field.
(16:32):
They're not drinking is yeah. Also they're not socializing, well,
they're staring their phones. Yeah yeah, all right, seven one
three two one two five seven nine zero. So the
squad is at five and two? Do you say five
and two? Like, you know what that if you're if
you're if you're on pace, guy, that puts you at
(16:52):
ten and four. That puts you about eleven and five.
Actually maybe twelve and five. You're probably gonna be maybe
the two seed or the three seed. At very the
ANFC playoffs have at least one home playoff game. You
could say that on pace. But also this was supposed
to be the easier part of the and it was
the easier part of the schedule, right And by the way,
the culture now game back of you in the ANFC South,
(17:13):
But I watched a lot of that Miami in the
Aapoles game. Anthony Richardson is he just they just can't
they can't score. He's bad, cannot cannot be bad quarterback.
I forget who it was it said Anthony Richardson was
overhyped before the season, but they were right. Who was
over whoever it was?
Speaker 9 (17:26):
Was it you?
Speaker 2 (17:27):
It was me, okay, Anthony Richardson is over. I just
I just wasn't saying it. I wasn't buying it. I
fell into the athleticism. I fell into the Week two
game he had against the Texans in Houston last year.
He was good in Week one against the Texans. It
was really good week for a couple of plays. But
he's largely inaccurate. And every time he runs Ross I
was watching on red zone yesterday. He doesn't ever go
(17:49):
out of bounds. It doesn't slide. He likes to good people.
I am six three two forty. I can beat any cornerback. Well,
that's not smart because sometimes your head hits the turf
and you wind up getting in cuss hurting his shoulder.
On the season as a passer, forty eight and a
half completion percentage, three touchdowns, six pick. Yeah, not accurate
at all. Let's talk to us. Scott in river Oaks
(18:10):
at twelve twenty six on seven, Honey Scott in good afternoon.
Thank you for holding Matt Ross. Get to talk to
you guys.
Speaker 11 (18:16):
So you know when you asked the question, you know
was a tough It was a tough loss yesterday. Yeah,
we're five and two it was a played a good
Packers team, did we You know, it's not a loss
that we should hang our heads about on paper, But
having watched us all season, you know, I think we
are pretty clearly in Tier two of the NFL right now.
(18:37):
I mean, if we had to face the Chiefs or
the Ravens in the playoffs, you can't have a deficiency
on your team like we do with this offensive line.
I mean, the Packers weren't doing anything special yesterday. There
wasn't a player on their defensive line who I said, Wow,
that guy looked like Aiden Hutchinson out there. I mean,
we were just missing blocks and I don't know how
(18:58):
you fix it. So, yes, we're five and two. I
still think we're going to be all the bad teams.
Our schedule does get a lot tougher, but you know,
as unfortunate it is to say the part that you know,
you you I look down on is I think we're
going to end up. I mean, this team feels capped
second round of the playoffs again, unfortunately, the way we
stand right now now, that's.
Speaker 2 (19:18):
How I saw it from the jumping, and I don't
think thank you Scott for the phone call. There was
nothing in the first seven weeks. Maybe the Buffalo victory
that may just say, you know what, the Texans can
go win at Baltimore. The Texans can go win at
Kansas City. Their biggest wins this year have been at home.
Uh and it got again. There's still there's more than
(19:40):
a half a season left, so we don't necessarily we
need to finish up this conversation about where they're going
to end up. But Ross and how much that you
watch of Kansas City San Francisco this past week yesterday,
I'm glad you brought that up because Steve Spagnolo, the
defensive coordinator of the Kansas City Chiefs, is known for
exactly what has been crushing the Texans this year. It
is disguising coverages, bringing guys from all angles, late movement,
(20:04):
crazy like mad Hatter type of stuff, ficky secondary guys,
grabby interceptions out of nowhere, scientist stuff. And Brian Flores
is known for that. And how did the Texans do
against the Vikings and Brian Flores, how did the Texans
do this weekend against the Packers. So they need to
figure this out because if you're facing that Chiefs defense
in a potential divisional or championship game. I have zero
(20:27):
confidence that the Texans are going to be able to
to move the ball and pass the ball against that
type of offense because of these protection issues that they're having.
They need to get short up. You won the turnover
battle three zero this last week, and you needed I mean,
they just needed miracle after miracle. I felt like, I
feel like they got really outplayed in this game more
(20:49):
than the final score indicates. Yeah, it's uh, how do
you win the three zero turnover war and still lose
the game. It's pretty sure to twelve to twenty nine

up today Ross at Sports seven ninety on the Matt
Thomas twittercoun at Sports EMT where I'm thriving at thirty
two thousand. Wow, great job, I put you, I put.
I did this five hours ago, so I put a
few tweets since then. Just grate your teeth and say,
(23:06):
let's go Dodgers, Let's go Yankees. So far, fivemner votes
are in. We're still eighteen hours left to vote. A
lot of people are not voting because I just can't
do it, and I respect that, okay, But of those
that voted, let's go Dodgers at fifty four percent, let's
go Yankees at forty six percent, That's where I go.
I can easily make myself root for Shoho Tani than
(23:28):
I can for Aaron Judge. Shoe Tani is one of
the greatest shows on Earth, if not number one in sports,
like regardless of sport. When he's pitching, especially, but even
as a hitter, he strikes the fear the fifty season.
Speaker 6 (23:44):
I mean, come on.
Speaker 2 (23:46):
He's insane and it's done it with a bad wing.
Think about that. Yeah, so easier for me now, Mookie Bats,
I mean come on, I love how he's He was
on the seven team Red Sox that cheated, the eighteen
Red Sox that cheated, and he doesn't get booed I
one percent as much as Jose L two Vey does.
(24:10):
Jose has worn it longer than anybody else a He's
even worn it longer than Bregman, and Bregman basically said, yeah,
I did it. I mean, but anyways, I don't. I
just gotta root for individuals. I'm root for shoot Game
one of the World Series is Friday, Okay, and again,
if you want to vote, it's at sports MTMI Twitter
account right now, fifty four to forty six in favor
(24:31):
of the Los Angeles. Let's go Dodgers over, Let's go Yankees.
All right, terrible. I mean, I'll be honest with you. Friday,
they may get a little bit of me. But Saturday's
college football. I have a Rocket Spurs game in San Antonio.
I'll keep an eye on it. And Sunday is NFL
for us. I'm not getting I'm not getting invested. Actually
(24:51):
they're off. I think they're off on Sunday. Last year
I had to I just literally could not watch it.
I could not watch the Rangers win the World Series.
Oh no, I can't remember one thing except them winning
it in the prey of forty four people next to
aroundal Walmart terrible. Neither team makes the playoffs the following year.
That just doesn't happen very often in sports. Fluke all right,
seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
(25:12):
one three two one two five seven nine zero. So
the offensive line is a mess, and I don't know
how all of a sudden it gets better. Do you
keep it? Do you keep a tight end in in
all times to help block? That means basically, Dalton SHOWTCHU
loses a wide receiver. What the hell has happened to Tank? Dell?
(25:32):
Is Tank a forgotten man in this offense? This year,
I has done nothing eventful. He was getting open a
ton last week and he got nine targets. I think
wasn't nine targets seven catches? I think the week before.
I don't know how many targets. How many targets did
he get this game? I know he didn't have any catch.
I can look it up right now. Yeah. So I
think at the end of the day they only threw
(25:52):
the ball twenty times. They were getting crushed in the
offensive line and CJ. Stroud only threw for eighty six yards.
I mean, I nobody was doing much of anything. Yeah,
Tank was tard gonna four times yesterday. Stefan Diggs five
for twenty three. By the way, how about Stefan Diggs
doing a little I'm gonna fight with every Green Bay
Packer before kickoffe yesterday? I liked his quote. His quote was,
I'm never gonna be the bigger man. And I look,
(26:16):
I'm not a huge Stefan Diggs fan, but I can
appreciate him saying that because at least he's he's he's
comfortable in his own he's consistent as well, like it's
never going to be the bigger person. It's like Dylan Brooks.
I don't think Dylan Brooks is a rocket. Everyone says,
you know what, I'll try to maintain this little calmness
on the court. I mean they want to they want
a blank start. I love the quote from Stefan Diggs.
I don't give a bleep if I'm by myself or
(26:38):
with a million I'm never the bigger person. I let
bleep go. It was very chippy for a team that
sees each other every what six years or something like that.
They picked it up or whatever, But I ain't with
the football tough guy bleep Love Diggs. Yeah he's he
clearly carries some respect in that locker room, but it
(27:01):
just didn't translate the whole field. I mean CJ was
a pedestrian. Let everything offensively, yeah, yeah, And they took
advantage of Joe makes have a great game. They took
advantage of short fields, on the turnovers, the the punt
that the punt muff, not the muff, but it was
the guy that touched it was. I mean that was
that's giving you seven points. That is a gift of
(27:21):
seven points. And that's why I think the final like
I said last segment, the final score does not reflect
how badly they gotten beaten.
Speaker 12 (27:27):
Here.
Speaker 2 (27:27):
Yeah, Jordan Love made some mistakes. He could have made
some more, but Jordan Love is going to make some mistakes.
You've got a gift of seven points from that muff punt,
and that's another reason why it was disappointing that they
played so conservatively in that last drive. You got a gift.
You're on the road, you're in Green Bay, go for
the win, like in a big way. Where to where
(27:48):
you can get that seven and really put the pressure
on Green Bay at least try to. You don't have
anything to lose. I mean you could turn the ball over.
I guess.
Speaker 9 (27:57):
Oh no.
Speaker 2 (27:58):
And here's the thing.
Speaker 9 (27:58):
You could.
Speaker 2 (27:59):
You could sack getting intercepted. But the problem is that
CJ doesn't turn the ball over that much. No, even
if he gets sacked once, if not twice, Kym's hitting
fifty yard field goals like their chip shots. So I think, yeah,
I think play action on first down. There is the
perfect scenario where everybody's gonna be playing the run. Yeah,
let let the Dalton Schultz got. The problem is again,
(28:21):
you I think I I My my thought is that
slowly knew his offensive line had showed no signs of
seriously giving CJ enough time to throw the football. Yeah,
and they just need to get better at you asked
how they get better, Well, there's just not gonna be
with personnelity. I need to trade for anybody in the
middle of the season. Well you could, you have a
(28:42):
trade to line, but it's not gonna I don't think
it's gonna happen. They just have to get better at
communicating and figuring out who has who it's it's it's
just very simple football stuff. And I don't think it's
one particular player. I think the entire offensive line has
to wear it. Yes, some guys slipping to guys, you know, uh,
not protecting the one guy. And it wasn't like Titus
Howard just falling on the ground. He did that last
(29:04):
week too, and then then he then then he did
he curl up in the fetal position after that, or like,
oh I must be hurt now I'm actually he put
his thumb in his mouth. I thought that thought was weird.
It's a lot in here. There's a lot of money.
There's a lot of money, a lot of draft picks
on the offensive line. Yes, it's not I guess some
hodgepoty group of guys put together. It was supposed to
be a huge strength. And so far, depending on what
offensive line rankings you look around the league, they they're
(29:26):
generally middle of the pack. All right, let's go to
uh CJ. Not CJ. Stroup, but just regular CJ. At
seven ninety at twelve forty one high CJ.
Speaker 5 (29:35):
Well, so, yeah, I looked like CJ. Strod looked like me,
sunday Man. That looked like regular CJ.
Speaker 12 (29:40):
That's crazy.
Speaker 5 (29:42):
Actually though, So with that, okay, we all have basically
discussed the offensive line, the uh, the play call, and
I do think I like the point you brought up
about Slow probably knowing his offensive line, but I still think,
you know, he can do better. With that said, I
think we as fans, and I'm speaking for myself as well,
because of how unexpectedly good they were last year, I
(30:07):
think we just automatically put them in the Super Bowl
contention without the growing pains, like it's a new coach,
a very first time head coach, and we talked about
We've mentioned a lot of coaching blips throughout this season
and some last we've tried to ask questions about, like,
you know, what's going on in practice, why isn't the
(30:29):
offensive line improveing?
Speaker 9 (30:30):
The blah blah blah.
Speaker 5 (30:31):
I think we got a really good team, but maybe
as fans, do you think that we possibly might have
jumped the gun with our expectations because of how they
how good they were last year?
Speaker 2 (30:42):
And I hang up and listen, Thank you, Sijah. I
completely agree that the city of Houston collectively jumped the gun.
But it's not abnormal behavior, no, But it's funny how
the fan base turned spoiled in one year. But I
totally with what TJ said. If they'd lost a couple
more of those one score games last year and they
(31:05):
would have finished eight to nine and missed the playoffs,
and then you're sitting here now at five and two.
I think we are taking it a little bit better.
I think we did let the hype train run a
little bit too fast with the last year, and maybe
there is some element to that. There was, but but
it's not a normal activity because you get what you've
done is you've taken a quarterback and he is a star.
(31:28):
You had Tank Dell had a breakout year, Nico Collins
had a breakout year. You had a good running game
in Singletary, and then you replaced him with a better
guy in Mixing. Will Anderson was your defensive rookie of
the year. I mean, if I was a Texans fan,
I would have done the exact same thing. I don't
know how you temper it. I don't know how you
go Well, that was fun, but I don't expect this
(31:48):
to be nearly as good. You got better, You're supposed
to be better, and right now, the path to me
was you're not gonna win every one of the close
games like you did last year, and you still have
to do some things that are gonna put you in
the same category as Kansas City and Baltimore, and you've
(32:10):
not and they just can't do it. They're just not capable.
There's not enough talent to be in the Kansas City
Baltimore range right now. They're getting better, but it's still
to get near the top. It still is gonna take
a lot of work. It's probably gonna take some more
pass rushing. It's probably gonna figure out whether or not
who the true second cornerback is. I know Alastaer was
(32:31):
hurting again. There was a lot of defensive starters that
were hurt yesterday, but Roussille. That happens with every team.
Every everybody's got injuries. That's the reason why I'm quitting
fantasy football. Come on, man, and we will discuss why
I'm doing that. We come back. You can't quit quit
you started the league. Yeah, you've already seated commissioners controlled
the me. You made me do it.
Speaker 3 (32:52):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (32:53):
I gotta chase down all these dead beats for their
money every year, yep. And now you're gonna just go
ahead and up and leave the league correct disappointed. I'll
expla why. I guess I'll run through my numbers and
you'll say, I know why you're quitting. Seven one three
two one two five seven ninty seven one three two
one two five seven ninty. Very proud to speak for
Martin spoon More and as folks at Affordable Tree Service.
(33:14):
Your trees are about to go up through a pretty
significant change with the weather change. That's why you've got
to call Martin right now at seven one three six
nine nine two six sixty three. Seven one three six
nine nine two six sixty three. Martin's going to take
care of everything from pruning and maintenance, deep root feeding,
stump grinding, root barricading. If you want to transplant a
(33:37):
tree or add a new one, he'll do it for you,
and he'll do it at a very affordable price. They
are the number one people in this community to go
to when it comes to anything to take care of
your trees. Think about you bought your house in part
because of the trees. Take care of them because you
have no idea what you're doing. Seven one three six
nine nine two six sixty three. That's seven one three
six nine nine two six sixty three. The website is

Speaker 4 (34:03):
Texan Back to battle Red Ross and Liberty White Ass
Matt Thomas, What.
Speaker 9 (34:11):
A what A?
Speaker 3 (34:12):
This is what I am?
Speaker 1 (34:13):
Real Pale Texans talk continues on the Matt Thomas Show.
Speaker 2 (34:19):
What A what A? All Right, I'm gonna sit the
next half hour for you. We'll get back to the
Texans at one o'clock one twenty. We're going to go
to Cleveland to hear some comments about Deshaun Watson's achilles
injury and how the reaction around the sports world is
(34:40):
very mixed about this. I would say it's like ninety
ten one way. Well, I guess you said ninety ten
among fans, among those players, it's much more skewed towards
how do you do this? And so we're gonna let
you hear a little comments that's a little hyperbole, hyperbolic. Yeah,
(35:00):
who's hyper who?
Speaker 9 (35:01):
Who?
Speaker 2 (35:01):
You'll find out coming up at one Tokay, we have
to tell the truth. At one thirty today we will. Yeah,
wonderful And I'm definitely afraid of doing this segment of
week because no matter what take I have, you think
it's the worst take ever, Well, let's let's run through
the list you said the takes that I have said
bad that come off the top of my head. Was
you saying, you say, Kakuchi is never gonna throw seven
innings and he did his next start. And then you
(35:22):
saying that the Astros we're gonna sweep whoever they play
in the wildcard, and they got swept. No, I said
there was gonna be a see No no, no, no, no,
no no no, no. I don't know. So, yeah, if
you're gonna be making bad takes, I do get confused.
Speaker 3 (35:35):
Matt.
Speaker 2 (35:35):
Well, my my outstanding takes are much much more abundant
than the occasional off take. All right, So I'm gonna
make this declaration for you, and I'm sure there's others
in the group two. Okay, Injuries have been a problem
in the NFL this year. My gosh, everywhere. I just
had Brandon I just tore his ACL. The off weeks
also don't help. So you have to go deep to
(35:57):
your bench. You have to go to deep defree agency,
when you deep in the waiver wire weeds. All right,
So I do that every week. I'm starting Kareem Hunt.
He was out of the league three weeks ago. So
the Houston Toros lost to a team the bad Boy,
uh and and team the bad Boy has three players
going tonight, and I'm already down seventy to sixty one.
(36:17):
I have no players left. Oh so he needs to
get buy those three players need to get a collective
negative ten points? Yes, which get which? By espn'scis, I've
got a one percent chance, but I believe it's a
lot closer to zero zero. So let me just tell
you what the reason why I'm quitting this will be
Toros has been my third straight loss. Uh Brock Party
(36:39):
seventeen points. That's okay, that's good, It's fine. Alvin Kamara five,
five point four. He's been great for you all year.
Kamara five points, he's been great. Next, Darrenis Jackson Johnson,
the Jacksons Johnson, who's that? I don't know either. He
actually did well for me. He gave me eight point five.
(37:00):
That's good for you. He here we go, you poor baby.
Tyreek freaking Hail shut your bass up, Tyreek Hill one
catch eight yards, Courtland Sutton, Denver Broncos zero catches, zero yards.
(37:22):
Kyle Pitts Atlanta Falcons got me ten points. I was
okay with that. Devonte Smith Philadelphia Eagles one catch for
minus two yards. I got point three from my flex aw.
The Philly defense gave me fifteen points. That beat the
Giants yesterday twenty eight to three, and Evan McPherson, a
(37:48):
good irishman, three extra points yesterday. All that together sixty
one points. I am out done, gone though. My fantasy
football career is over. Is this how you're gonna do this?
Speaker 13 (38:05):
Matt?
Speaker 2 (38:06):
Yes, You're gonna quit, Yes, just because of a couple
of injuries. Couple want to pull yourself up by your bootstraps.
I make some wave wire pickups and get back in
there and play. I got healthy players dealing with injuries.
I got healthy players scoring me zero point. Everybody's gotta
hurt players. Screw you NFL on, screw you Fantasy football.
(38:26):
I'm over an out. It's been a good ride, but
this beaches out. This is pretty funny. How think, Gordon Sudden,
get your squad, douche squad, douche tyrn Hill. He's got
to a tongue of alwa coming back. You're gonna be fine.
He's okay to a teen of one doesn't know his
name Alvin Kamara's gonna bounce back. He's got a full
(38:48):
week off. He's been great all season. And Derek Carr's
been out. He's gonna be okay. Corland Sudden Stills bow
Nick So I don't know about that. Kyle Pitch got
you ten. Davante Smith had an off week. He'll be back.
But your whining. Now, I'm not quitting this season, but
this is it. After this, you I am retiring. You
Come on, mate, this league is so hard to fill.
(39:08):
No chance if somebody wants my spot. Fees astronomically high,
and everybody I talked to, they're like, how much I'm
out of here because you're fancy Matt making fancy dollars.
Now your problems you created. You hit it off to
me as a commissioner. Guess what things can be like stocks,
they can move down. Why you can make it a
more affordable league. We'll come up others in. You can't
leave the league being a zero time champion. Watch me.
(39:32):
That'd be embarrassing. I'm not I've gotta win one. I'm
very comfortable my skin with this squad. I'm not winning one.
I'm about to go to night. I hit the waivers.
Speaker 3 (39:39):
Baby, let's go. I hit the.
Speaker 2 (39:40):
Waivers every damn week.
Speaker 3 (39:42):
Ross.
Speaker 2 (39:42):
My decision has been made. You gonna bounce back. No,
you feel it. You can feel all you want in
your bones. It didn't happen. We need you in the league, Matt.
You ain't getting me. You're geting me for the next
I mean, well, keep you in the league because you're
so good, and you draft so well and hit the
waivers so well. But we need if you can play
all the music you want to. You can play sound effects, right,
(40:02):
you can call me names. Fine, I am done when
this season everybody's got injuries. This has been a tough year.
I'm in five leagues. I've making seventy five waiver pickups
every freaking week.
Speaker 3 (40:12):
It's terrible.
Speaker 2 (40:13):
Now we love more Doctor Roto, we do. He'll still
be on every week. See, you're also gonna hurt that
bit because part of the funt of the Doctor Roto
segment is having you resuscitate your team. Well, look at
the how it's done so far from me. Actually, I'm
not asked for any invit. Maybe this week's Doctor Roto,
I will ask you ten minutes of just me and him.
You I like it. It's terrible, so awful, and I
(40:37):
put that on my Twitter castrat people like, yeah, I'm
insane with you. I'm just no more. It's no more
enjoy It's been a frustrating year. The injuries have been
insane this year, insane, but it hasn't affected ratings. People
still watch. Yeah, I still watched hours of Red Zone
even yesterday. The three clock games are only three games
three o clock. I mean, Cooper Cup's been out all year,
(40:58):
Pooka Nakua, Brandon Ayuk just tore his a. Cl You've
had I mean Twa got hurt. So that's been. Waddle
and Tyreek Hill haven't been doing anything. I mean you
look at every like the top of every draft, she's
been Christian McCaffrey has been out to take one. Michael Pittman.
I had to bench because I don't trust the quarterback
at the Colts. Yeah, I benched him seven point eight
(41:19):
on that real whoop the freaking new get to the
end zone, bro, Seriously, let's see been hurt. Zach Moss
five point five, he rushed for seven yards. Dalton Schultz
three point three points. He had one catch in the
whole damn day for twenty eight yards. Ceedee. Lamb's been terrible.
I don't care Taylor's been I'm done. I'm gonna still
(41:39):
watch it, gonna draw my Sundays. I took Devon ah
Chan in the third round. How's that been working out
for me? He's been a disaster. Chris Olave is hurt.
Tank Dell was a third rounder. He hadn't done anything.
Marvin Harrison Junior has a concussion. Man, this is everybody's
getting hurt. So why are watching this? Why are we
still watching them? It is the NFL. We're obsessed dfs.
(42:01):
Oh well, I do underdog. That helps that that past
five my time. I'll tell you that. Okay, good, all right?
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety. I
want to hear from you Houston fans because I don't
even go There's some Texan fans out there, because Lord
knows them. Didn't many of you? Many of you didn't
go to Green Bay this past week. Funny seats still
available for all in the Texan section. Your squad is
(42:24):
zero and two against the elite team. That's not true.
Buffalo is an elite team. I still think. Yes, they're
one and two against elite teams. Is that fair to say.
I think that's fair forgetting anybody else in an elite category.
Uh yeah, I think the Colts are elite. No, you don't.
Patriots Nope. Patriots was ext extremely elite jvil Nope, the
(42:44):
Patriots are elite. Non has a franchise well as a
history as that logo they wore two weeks ago seven
one three two one two five seven ninety. How are
you feeling today when you went to the office where
you talk to your buddies about the Texans performance? Come
be honest, we won't bite one three two one two
five seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (43:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (43:03):
Well, Matt's had a good question about how you feeling, well,
how you've been feeling in your day to day life,
not even just about your sports teams. Maybe they got
your energy down, but maybe your energy downs has been
down anyways, maybe the motivation, the libido, all that stuff
has not been great. Let me point you towards Centergenics

Lunchtimers, This is the Matt Thomas Show.
Speaker 2 (44:04):
All right our time. He's one to three good afternoon.
Ever one. It is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross.
We take this program till three o'clock. At one. We're
gonna get into the Deshaun Watson conversation. He is definitely
out for the season with a ruptured achilles. And the
folks in Cleveland weren't shedding much tears, and we'll discuss
that coming up in about fifteen minutes from now. We have
(44:25):
the Texans on the agenda. We have who were possibly
rooting for or we're just going to turn it off
for the Dodgers Yankees. We have a coach flat out
in the final game of the season blaming an official
or officials for a bad call to end the season.
And we have the University of Texas acting like a
bunch of morons getting fined two hundred and fifty thousand
(44:47):
dollars for throwing water bottles on the field. And Georgia one,
you're really twisted a knife on this one, aren't you. No,
I'm not, Yeah, you are No. I just said, very rude,
act like morons. Uh, I don't want some morons? Was it?
Moron acted like children?
Speaker 3 (45:05):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (45:06):
Spoiled entitled largely with Texas alumps. Not something that happens
all the time. I've never seen anything like this. If
you can point out to another time where you've seen this,
tell me, I believe when y'all played the Alcorn State
you didn't, oh year nineteen eighty three. Yeah, you're making
that up. Of course you don't know that, Yes, I do, Okay,
I just you know, if the Aggies would have done
(45:28):
something like this, you'd be all over them too. I
said it was embarrassing and terrible. What more do you
want me to say? What you just said they should be.
They should succeed from the SEC and go play in
the Mid American Mid American. Yeah, can come back to
Big twelve and bully all Sorry, asses, I don't know
by you was undefeated and they didn't really bully the
Big twelve anyways, I ex has only won the Big
Twelve three times, only three, you know, let's get the
(45:53):
old S four A right, let's get the SBC back.
So four times I won four j Brown game. Don't
be scared. You guys are You're gonna be in there.
You're gonna probably be in the final four. We'll see
what happens, and you're gonna play Georgia at least one
more time. Who's going to be their quarterback? That will
be for to tell the truth today at one third?
Look at you. I think about these things occasionally. Okay,
(46:17):
let's believe it or not today A two to fifteen,
I don't know. I don't know, Hooligan fans, Texas, I
believe it. I'm sick. I don't want to do this.
I'm not gonna film great either. I can do it
if you want. Yeah, why don't you do it?
Speaker 9 (46:27):
No?
Speaker 2 (46:28):
All right, I'm not doing anything. Uh, what's the category
mm M, Jordan Love. We did Green Bay last week?
What could be the category? Things about love? M? I
mean athletes?
Speaker 3 (46:44):
Are there?
Speaker 2 (46:44):
There's Kevin Love? Yes, there is uh Jordan Love, Buddy Love.
Who's Buddy Love? Oh? That was in the Duddy Professor?
Oh good, pull by you. Davis Love the third Yeah,
Davis Love, Jordan Love, Kevin Lo, we need one more?
You be complete? Ever saw Keem Love? He was more
(47:05):
number thirty four for the no we love, We love
to keep? Okay, what's another love? I'm sure we can find.
My sixth grade social studies teater's name was and Love. Yeah,
were you attracted her? Far from it? There was a
stand love and a Bob Love. Oh Bob Love.
Speaker 4 (47:24):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (47:25):
Was he a football player?
Speaker 9 (47:26):
No?
Speaker 2 (47:26):
Bob Love was played basketball. Okay, he was nicknamed a
butterbean winning one more love Bob? But no, I don't
want to do that. All right, Well, fine, we'll just
fingus up. We'll figure something a right. Let's talk to
let's talk to people, huge, okay, let's do that. Seven
one three two one two five seven ninety seven one
three two one two five seven nine zero. Let's talk
(47:47):
to Robert and Katie on the Matt Thomas Show. Ross Robert,
thanks for holding what's going on?
Speaker 14 (47:52):
Hey, guys, I thought it was a really exciting game. Uh,
you know, we had five guys believe on defense, they
were out defense really stepped up, and uh, I think
we just got out coached.
Speaker 3 (48:04):
A little bit.
Speaker 9 (48:05):
We're almost there.
Speaker 14 (48:06):
We had to lead up until we were one first
down away. We would have got that last first down.
Speaker 3 (48:11):
It eight up the clock and just kicked.
Speaker 14 (48:13):
If we didn't have to score the touchdown. I eight
up the clock, and you know, I believe we would
have won it. But still we had we had to
lead for a minute and forty seconds and we couldn't
hold him. And so you know, Demko, he's in charge
of the defense.
Speaker 7 (48:28):
So you know, I don't you know, I think we
just got out coached.
Speaker 2 (48:31):
But I thought we did it great, you know, I
don't was was the fourth quarter kind of wonky with
the way they called those plays the twelve yard line
and trying to figure out if we're gonna go for
the field goal or kick the get the touchdown. But
I didn't see there was a bunch of missteps coaching
wise in the course of the game. Did you I
(48:53):
know they tried to run the ball a bunch because
every time they tried to pass the ball, and this
is why they were doing it. When when Joe Mixon
one is out and everybody's calling ball Bobby's little conservative,
You see what happens when they throw the ball a bunch,
They end up under a lot of pressure. The passwalking
has not been great outside of Laramie Tunzel and even
they he was getting in miscommunications this past weekend, and
there were too many free runners at your quarterback. And
(49:15):
this is a healthy offensive line, right Ross Yeah, I'm
not saying anybody are we? Uh is what's his name?
Patterson is out? I guess, but yeah, basically, I mean
this is the starting five that left camp to be
the starting five over the course of the year, and
they cannot pass protect and CJ finally showed ROSSI some
signs he was human. He threw this damn helmet down.
(49:35):
He's like, I'm tired of get my chase, running for
my life. He was running for guess what. He knows
what's gonna happen when he runs for his life. He's
gonna get sacked. He's going to lose the football on
a stack strip sack. He's gonna hit his head on
the ground, He's gonna tear an acl I mean, he
knows future injuries are on his way. It was man,
but how do you shut it up in the middle
(49:57):
of the season. They just need to the offensive lineman.
I think it was a Shack Mason and maybe maybe
it was Laramie Tunsel too. They said, it's on us.
We need to communicate better. They need to figure this out.
The more play action, more short step short drops, three
steps throw. They're just missing assignments where you have guys
coming in unblocked. Generally, unless six seven guys are coming
(50:19):
at you, there is somebody not getting picked up because
there is a miscommunication alignment. Are not figuring out who
was who. Yeah, but it's been a week to week
the situation. At least on the positive side, the penalties
have come down significantly. Yes, that's good. Now one thing,
it's another. Now here's the thing. The Colts are coming in.
(50:40):
Texans are a touchdown favorite against Indianapolis. The Colts struggled
yesterday and there went against Miami, who again was throwing
out multiple quarterbacks because I think the who was the
other guy? That their starry yesterday got hurt for Miami.
Tyler Huntley. Tyler Huntley, you've Puntley got hurt? Yeah? Who
was throwing? I believe they went and got Damn Marino
out of really his the retirement papers interesting, So I
(51:04):
didn't I didn't even see that.
Speaker 3 (51:06):
I didn't know.
Speaker 2 (51:06):
Uh, I didn't know Tyler Huntley got hurt. Yeah, so
it's not it's far from an impressive group. Tim Boyle, Yeah, Texans,
great Texans legend, Tim Boyle, Good god, Skyler what Skyler
Thompson still hurt?
Speaker 9 (51:19):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (51:20):
But two was coming back in couple weeks if not
injuries in the NFL. My goodness, it has been too much.
Now here's the problem. If you lose this game on Sunday,
which you're not going to. I don't think you're gonna
be in a tie with the Colts. You could, and
the Colts and the Texans have been even one in
one record, so they probably go to AFC South records. No,
the Texans have only have not faced Tennessee yet. Well
(51:41):
have been done with Indianapolis and uh who else am
I forgetting?
Speaker 3 (51:45):
Oh Jack?
Speaker 2 (51:46):
And they won one against Texville, so they may have
a tie breaker over the Colts, and the Texans have
a better team than the Colts do They just do
Anthony Richardson in a very very small sample size, He's
played his best football against the Texans, that's right, two games,
two impressive ones. Now one he left because of injury.
But yeah, and the Texans just play a lot better
at home. He's got two throwing touchdowns against the Texans,
(52:07):
one against everyone else this year Richardson, mm hmmmm. I
expect the Texans to win that game, but Richardson's given
them some problems, all right, So that's coming up on Sunday.
We'll talk more about that as a week progresses. But
first things first, again, what happened to the Bobby's We're
lucky to have Bobby's luck staying another season? What I mean, literally?
Speaker 9 (52:27):
Are we?
Speaker 2 (52:27):
Are we that short sighted on this? I think so.
I don't think he's doing an awful job. I think
I think it's just a really low hanging for now. Again,
the final series of the game, huge question marks, and
maybe when Dimico speaks to the media two thirty he'll
give us a little exploation to that. But if you're
trying to drain clock, you run the football every single time,
(52:51):
but three times in a row. If you're trying to
score a touchdown, which you have said, and I kind
of back you up on this, which you want to
do is you want to put the immense pressure on him.
You have to throw the football.
Speaker 9 (53:01):
You just do.
Speaker 2 (53:03):
And so what if you incomplete the pass?
Speaker 9 (53:05):
You're not.
Speaker 2 (53:05):
It's not like the endgame. You still gave the Packers
with the way you ran things, plenty of time have
to go. They burn their timeouts. So only benefit of you,
only non benefit of you throwing the football is they
don't burn the timeouts of the passes incomplete. And oh,
by the way, you have your three timeouts, so if
you are going to leave more time on the clock,
you could possibly try and get the ball back and
(53:26):
then score your own if we've seen them do that
before with Long that was a game against the Buffalo
only scored like doing that game. So yeah, the whole
last sequence. And let me ask you this, this is
more macro than micro do you feel like And again,
I'm a Texans observer, not a fan, so I want
to make sure this is not coming from me. Okay,
but I'm gonna say something. It feels like there are
(53:49):
times in every game where we have questioned de Miko
on a challenge yes, or a use of timeout or
a strategy. Now, the question I have for you is
do we do that with every team that we follow?
Or are we being hyper sensive towards Demiko? Or is
Demiko making mistakes that most other NFL coaches. We have
(54:09):
a pretty firm opinion about what I think about him
as a game manager, and we'll tell you about that
when we come back one thirteen of The Matt Thomas
Show with Ross seven one three two one two five

Matt Thomas returns on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (56:00):
I love our company but seriously, do not, dude. You're
not going to listen to dudes on dudes. I'm sorry.
We have many other better options. Dudes on dudes.
Speaker 3 (56:13):
You know what I mean?
Speaker 2 (56:13):
I love I've worked for iHeartRadio for about seventy five
percent of my clear channel. Yeah, I was a clear channel.
Og me too utterly dig dudes on I mean, I'd
rather listen to Malaysia and women's basketball combo than dudes
on dudes. I thought it was Philippines whatever with Cassidy
(56:35):
a birth. She's cute, she's nice. I'm sure the Filipino
podcast was great. Basketball is probably long gone and the
podcast we promote are long gone. Within about two Dwane
Wade's doing. I'm sure that. I'm sure what John Wallas
is thriving right now. I bet I couldn't find it
if I tried Dudes on dudes. Why don't you get
them to cut you a check for one of these podcasts, Mattie,
(56:56):
because I'd pay me enough. You're already breaking and they're
back with all the money you made. Oh my god,
that's Sean. It falls very monesday morning, six to ten.
All right, dud done, dude, done, dude, that's embarrassing. You know,
you can catch the Matt Thomas Show podcast on Spotify.
All of people listen to us on podcasts, which I'm
very happy for. I sometimes go back and listen on
(57:19):
on Spotify. Do you really I've never listened to our
show ever. I wouldn't say ever, but rarely. Yeah. I
gotta take notes and see see what I can do
better and see what I was like. Man, Matt's messing
this up is that he could do Wait now, the
funny stuff like when when artists played the Creed music
as compared to the Creed the group. Yes, that to me.
(57:39):
I went back and listened to that. That's good. I've
listened back to when we did when Deshaun Watson I
mean down Ra Hopkins was traded. I've listened to that.
Speaker 3 (57:46):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (57:47):
I listened when we were in New Orleans and uh,
the band took over.
Speaker 3 (57:51):
All of a sudden.
Speaker 2 (57:51):
We've replayed before. I've always find okay, but a normal
day like me, we're giving you excellence every day. We're
not worrying about cuss and discussing here. But I'm not
gonna and listen today show. Okay, you should on Spotify,
all right, so we let's get back to the key point,
the thought about his overall game management, especially in say
(58:12):
the final five minutes of games. I think we as
football fans pay attention to what our coach, the one
we follow, the team will follow where we were like,
and we have a very sensitive grading scale on that.
For instance, if we were doing RAMS Radio and we
(58:35):
were doing a show in LA, we would probably have
a thought or two about how Sean McVay runs things
late in that contest. Right, Yes, So I don't know
if Sean McVay is a good game manager or not.
I don't know if now McCarthy might be, but his
teams gets blown out so much, and it's moot McCarthy's
coming to fire several times over the year. Is Dan
(58:56):
Campbell look good? Look Dan Campbell's I think he's great
to everything. I think he's awesome. And I thought he
was gonna be one of these meat headed coaches that
was gonna be fired within two years. Far from him,
he's been good because they were a disaster. When he's
got a huge win yesterday, we're gonna fall down and
I'm gonna bite your ankle, all right, We're gonna bite
(59:17):
your knee him like this guy's in over his head there.
But no, they've got a really good team. They've got
good coordinators. Dan Campbell is one of them more aggressed.
I love coaches who are aggressive on fourth downs, and
Dan Campbell is about as aggressive as a gid that.
As far as the NFL, I think, to my point,
I would guess if you took somebody that watched every game,
(59:38):
the Demiko is average to bottom half of game management.
I think he's below average slightly. I think he can
be aggressive at times. But he's aggressive when it's easy,
when it's like fourth and one on the other team's
forty where ten years ago you're punting it away or
forty five or so. But I think when it comes
(59:58):
to really on the razor's edge, you need to be aggressive.
Speaker 3 (01:00:03):
You need to go for it.
Speaker 2 (01:00:04):
I think too often he punts the ball away, he
settles for field goals. He's got that defensive it seems
to be a lot of times a defensive coachman, trust
I trust my defense. We're gonna establish the run. We're
not gonna be we're not gonna give the ball away,
we're not gonna be mega aggressive. We're gonna win with
the run game in defense, and I think he's a
(01:00:25):
little bit too much ingrained in that he's more aggressive
than that old school thinking, but not anywhere close to
some of the new school aggressive Like we mentioned that
the Dan Campbell's I don't know Mike McDaniel and the
Dolphins actually have their players, he's very aggressive. I think
Sean McVay can be aggressive. I think the offensive mind
coaches are gonna be that way to begin with Andy Reid,
(01:00:47):
which is easier to do it when you have Pat
Mahomes and that offensive line and all that type of stuff.
But I think those coaches are much more aggressive and
just daring to be rate, which I don't think. And
I think this last drive in this last game, it
shows that that they're not aggressive enough. But no, but
(01:01:10):
nobody checked them. Like again, you want to run it
on first and second down, Joe makes it, gets you
seven yards, get you eight yards. You're feeling great about
this because you're in the end zone. Once you scored
the touchdown, you put your foot on their throat. Instead,
you got two negative plays, so then you make them
burn the two timeouts. You might as well.
Speaker 9 (01:01:29):
In that particular.
Speaker 2 (01:01:29):
I don't mean to to pinpoint one small part of
the game, but that this was a huge part of
the game yesterday. Yeah, you gave Green Bay one opportunity left.
If you're gonna go run on first down and run
on second out and play uber conservative, which they did,
you're gonna do the same thing on third down. You're
not gonna sep the clock. You're gonna make them burn
their third timeout. But that's why the aggressiveness matters is because, yeah,
(01:01:50):
it is going to come down to one drive. That's
every NFL game almost it comes down to one drive,
one decision. They're the margin for error is so thin
that you have to get these things right. And that's
why the analytics crowd normally, you know, you see they
put it on TV. It's like, well, they say go
for it. They so go for it. And then these
old fogies like Mike Floria are like, why does it
say go for it every time this thing is busted.
(01:02:11):
That's because the old conventional way of going with everything
was too conservative because you only get ten twelve drives
every game. If you score four touchdowns in a game
out of those, that's forty percent of the time you've
got one of the best offenses. In football, you've scored
twenty eight points a game, so you only have so
many opportunities to be aggressive. To go for sevens. You
have to seize those opportunities. And I don't think Demiko
(01:02:33):
Ryans does it enough. Yeah, And I just thought yesterday
was really uneven and how what their philosophy was, especially
because not only was the pass play on third down
to tank down if drop stops the clock, but it
wasn't gonna it was not getting a first down. He
was even gonna catch the ball and follow a bound stopped.
And he was also under pressure in that moment too,
(01:02:55):
So I mean I'd have to go back and watch
the game maybe, but h and maybe I will. Whether
you play action, whether you scramble him, whether you take
a three step drop and you throw a route to
the post, whatever the case may be, get the time.
I mean the Jalme Schultz was involved in that one
player early on, and we didn't hear from him as
a receiving guy the rest of the day. And I
(01:03:16):
will say this, if they stopped the Packers, we're probably
not talking about this as much. But that doesn't mean
that it wasn't the wrong decision in the moment. Yeah,
all right, we're gonna do a little to tell the truth.
I have four sports takes, of which I believe only
one of them, and Ross and Connor will to try
to decide which of the four I believe seven one, three, two,
one two, five seven ninety seven one three two, one
(01:03:38):
two five seven nine zero time is one twenty eight. Well,
I want to tell you before we play, to tell
the truth. I'm going to tell you the truth about
using Game Day Men's Health. This is a organization that's
here in Houston that are opening up clinics left and right,
and they have been such a huge part of the
nation's opportunity for men that have had distosterone issues that
(01:04:03):
they're now opening up locations here in Houston. Game Day
Men'shealth dot com slash Houston is a website I want
you to go to right this second. I'm going there
right now, and you're gonna be able to find locations
near you. We're talking about distosterone therapy replacement. We're talking
about erectile dysfunction issues. If you are suffering with low
(01:04:24):
T you could have a loss of sex drive, you
could have reduced energy, you could have decreased motivation, your
mood swings. You don't want any of that. That's why
you've got to get distosterone placement therapy. And you can
do it right now by booking and getting a free
distosterone test at game Day Men'shealth dot Com slash Houston.
Game Day Men's Health dot Com slash Houston. Three locations
(01:04:46):
are open up right now, two more coming up in
just a matter of weeks. That's Game Day Men'shealth dot
Com slash Houston.
Speaker 12 (01:05:01):
I never know why you.
Speaker 9 (01:05:05):
Tell me.
Speaker 15 (01:05:09):
Matt thoms show, but he does.
Speaker 2 (01:05:14):
Here's the segment where Matt gives us four horrible takes,
and one of them he actually believes. Why was I
talking to Wex instead of in this segment? It's my fault.
This is your fault. I don't four takes you did now.
It doesn't mean all four of these could eventually happen. Yes,
it's four of them or one of them. You believe.
I want to believe, all right, gentlemen, here we go.
(01:05:37):
Connor is in a good mood. He he understands that
sometimes you can't win with these things, and he takes
the losses like man. Otherwise my partner is not here.
What you whining cry like a little bee what Connor
gets all upset here we go, starts crying, he starts
making more flubs on the board. Oh now he's talking
(01:05:57):
about your technical prowess. I'm just kidding. Wow, we'll see what.
I don't even care anymore. These takes are so bad.
Number one, the Texans watched their offensive line put together
one of their worst performances okay, yesterday, and maybe generally speaking,
they've underperformed all this year. Nick Cassio knows this is
(01:06:20):
a good football team. He knows he has an elite quarterback. Gentlemen,
we're gonna see something that we don't normally see in
the NFL. We're gonna see Nick Asseio make a trade
or some serious offensive line depth before the trade deadline. Hmm. Okay,
it's gonna go find a team. I can't tell you
who it is. It's gonna be somebody's underperforming looking to
get rid of some salary. Yeah, and the Texas are
(01:06:42):
gonna go get an offensive lineman.
Speaker 3 (01:06:44):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (01:06:45):
Number two, I was so ridiculously impressed with how Kansas
City played yesterday. How impressed were you? They have really
two really good opponents the rest of the way, Oh,
Kings home for the Texans, I believe, and I think
(01:07:06):
they have to go to Buffalo. Okay, now, they've got
other good teams, but I'm talking about two elite teams.
I would not be surprised. I'm not calling it, but
I'm saying I would not be surprised if the Chiefs
go seventeen and oh this season, okay, because they can
win close games, they can win blowouts, they can win
in tough road venues. They can play when their quarterbacks
(01:07:28):
intercepted a couple of times. They're just a great defense.
Their their defense spectacular. They're coaching doesn't get out coached. Ever,
they got a legitimate shot at seventeen to no. Okay,
number three, when the University of Texas plays in the
college football playoff. Oh geez, Arch Manning will be the
(01:07:49):
starting quarterback for that college football playoff or should be? No,
you're saying it should be or will be. I'm gonna
go for both. I'm gonna go both because because I
think Arch will have more experience by the end of
the year, and he is definitely much more of a running,
scrambling quarterback than the quin yours. Okay, so I think
it would be in that the University of Texas' best
(01:08:11):
interest to start Arch manning for the national championship. Okay,
and fourth and final in a series that we all
despise and can't stand. The Dodgers, because of their ferocious
offense and better overall pitching, are going to win the
World Series in five games. Okay, So I have the
(01:08:36):
Dodgers as your World Series champions. Wonderful. So my four
takes are the Texans should go all in in training
for an offensive lineman. I think Nikosia will do that
before the trade deadline. I wouldn't be shocked if the
Chiefs go seventeen to zero the Texans, Texas, excuse me,
the Texas Longhorns should make the move to Arch because
(01:08:57):
he now has the experience and he also has the
ability to scramble, because if his offensive line is gonna
perform like a did against Georgia on Saturday, he's gonna
have scramble for his life. Or the Dodgers are gonna
win the World Series in five games. Gentlemen, which one
of those takes? Am I telling the truth?
Speaker 15 (01:09:17):
Mm hmmming Cross.
Speaker 2 (01:09:23):
I don't think the Chiefs are. I don't think he
thinks the Chiefs are going seventeen and O or he
doesn't think they wouldn't be surprised. I agree, that's it's
too hard in the NFL to do that. Dodgers in five,
I don't know, that's just it's kind of so mundane
in black. I'm just gonna toss that one out. I
think I'm actually gonna I think it's down to one
and three to me, and I think I'm just gonna
go with three. Why not, See, I'm kinda for that.
(01:09:47):
I mean, the Dodgers got to stretch it out. Oh,
I don't have to stretch it out. It's okay, we'll
talk about other things. We get DeShawn wasn't a good too,
So yeah, have a lot of free time. Go ahead.
Speaker 15 (01:09:59):
I was just say the I'll just have been lining
up on offense this whole postseason, So it is true
against the Yankees, I don't know, but yeah, I'm kind
of between one and one in four. I don't know
if based on Saturdays performances, if that was enough to
bench Quinniers at the moment.
Speaker 9 (01:10:18):
So I don't know.
Speaker 15 (01:10:20):
I think I'm gonna go four. I think Matt Leaves
and the Dodgers I'll go three.
Speaker 3 (01:10:25):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (01:10:26):
I will say that two of the four are way
significantly more I believable than the other two are. Okay,
so I will knock out the first two. I don't
think the Texans can go get an offensive lineup by
the deadline. I don't know they could.
Speaker 9 (01:10:41):
Why not?
Speaker 2 (01:10:41):
They could, but they should they should have you seen
Titus Howard flying all over the place on the ground.
But I just I don't think you're gonnaos guys. Yeah,
And generally general managers like to stick with their They
stick with their guys, and they want to say that
they can make the proper adjustments in a week to
week basis. I think the Chiefs are the best team
(01:11:03):
in the NFL AFC wise. I think it's and I
think I may have to hedge my bed a little
bit and say, maybe Chiefs Lions in the super Bowl. Okay,
but it's guys, it's just too hard to go seventeen
to zero. You'd have to be perfect every single week.
And while they could very easily win in Buffalo, and
they could very easily beat the Texans, they might slip up.
They may lose in Denver. They may you know, It's
just they won their first four games by one score.
Speaker 9 (01:11:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:11:23):
I mean, it's not like it's they're playing a bunch
of FCS schools. These are real life NFL teams. So
while I believe they could be fifteen to two or
fourteen and three, I don't see them going seventeen to zero. Rossie,
I really like arch Manning a lot. Oh okay, but
quin yours is the older quarterback. The Pedigrees got to
(01:11:46):
the championship round last year, the semifinals. It would be
very difficult for me to see that quin Ewrers would
play so poorly that he would be benched in the
most important time of the year. He was literally benched
this last weekend.
Speaker 9 (01:12:01):
But he got me.
Speaker 2 (01:12:02):
But he came back in the game and scored. So
it wasn't like he came back and threw two more pills. Good,
but it was. I mean, he improved advice on what
he earlier. So uh, not that I have a super
strong feeling about this, but I think the Dodgers offense
Mookie Bets show Heyo Tani they're loaded. They just creamed
the Mets over and over and over and over again.
Six game series, yeah, but they were so the Mets
(01:12:24):
can push them to six but the Yankees can't, right,
because the Yankees are going to strike out a bunch
and I'm gonna personally put a voodoo hecks on the
New York Yankees. Have the Dodgers winning this on five,
and that's fine. Your love for the Longhorns blinded you. No,
I just four just seemed like, like I said, it
was just blad who cares? And how could you say
that if the Mets took them to six. Again, if
(01:12:45):
the Mets took them to six, why can't the Yankees
take them to six?
Speaker 15 (01:12:50):
Your Longhorns lost? You're sick and you just lost. To
me and tell the truth.
Speaker 2 (01:12:55):
I didn't like four, but I mean, I just hear
this one. Hear this again, Connor. He's just making excuse
up left and right. Exactly. It's fine.
Speaker 15 (01:13:05):
They couldn't even let you finish. He already was starting to, Yeah, argue, I'm.
Speaker 9 (01:13:09):
Used to it.
Speaker 2 (01:13:10):
We I've been working this guy for fourteen years. I
know I know his bit. That's cool. Well, we'll see
what happens in the World Series. The Dodgers win in five,
I will say you were right. Oh, you'll forget it,
and guess what I'll do Ross If the Dodgers don't
win in five, I will say that was wrong. Yeah,
and it'll be which added to the list? Not a
very big list.
Speaker 3 (01:13:26):
It's a coming.
Speaker 2 (01:13:27):
They don't tell me if they call it a laundry list.
They don't call me. No, Sir Thomas for a reason.
No stra wrongests I believe on peach basket. No nobody
calls your peach pach basket. If you're vast basketball knowledge?
Can you believe this? Wednesday? We've got the start of
the regular season. I can believe it. I can see
my free time vaporizing before my eyes. Yeah, we talked
about that. Catch me on the launch pad. Are you
(01:13:48):
doing this Wednesday?
Speaker 3 (01:13:49):
What do you think? What about you?
Speaker 2 (01:13:50):
Who's working Friday?
Speaker 3 (01:13:51):
What do you think?
Speaker 2 (01:13:52):
Are your on Saturday?
Speaker 9 (01:13:53):
Too?
Speaker 3 (01:13:53):
No, I'm not doing so well.
Speaker 2 (01:13:54):
Dan Matthews is stepping up a little bit, so i'men.
So it's Wexlern Clinton cold probably step up period Sdan
Norfleet take your tickets. Oh, I'm in stan Norfleet. Can
you do post game on I'm busy.
Speaker 9 (01:14:04):
It's okay.
Speaker 2 (01:14:05):
Yes, Santay is taking my tickets for Wednesday. And that
was to tell the truth.
Speaker 9 (01:14:11):
All right?
Speaker 2 (01:14:11):
Up next, do we have a conundrum on the how
the the Browns treated Deshaun Watson or do we not
want to think about that for a little bit, okay,
because we'll discuss here's you know, me, I don't want
to be a fence center or anything, but I could
kind of in a debate. I could argue either way
(01:14:32):
on this and we'll discuss that coming up in a minute.
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven nine zero. If
you're not feeling very good these days, ross, can you
help the folks or no, me, you don't have to. Oh, okay,
but you know what I'll do first, go ahead tell
(01:14:52):
them what Yeah, help them? How's your energy? Oh? Mine?
It looks like hell. I look, I'm sired. You know,
it's great motivation. I mean lethargic, I have I have
too much libido ac Okay, Well, matter of fact, I'm
gonna look at I'm gonna look at Taylor Mass's. Oh god,
all right. Well if that's not gonna work for you
long term. Look, and this can be a serious thing.
(01:15:12):
It can be embarrassing, and it can be something that
can put you on a rut, makes you not necessarily scared,
but you don't even want to go to bed at
night because first of all, you've been restless and your
energy has been low, and then the libido hasn't been good,
and you're like, man, what can I do? I feel
backed into a corner. Get out of that corner with Synergenics.

Speaker 6 (01:16:25):
Takes on this lunch. But the Matt Thomas Show.
Speaker 2 (01:16:28):
I ain't no scissor. I'm gonna go to corral on
seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (01:16:36):
Things.
Speaker 2 (01:16:36):
I say, God, it's funny. Anything I say usually gets
repeated on this radio station either Friday at twelve o'clock
or in promos during the course of the week. I
give material when I frankly don't. Nobody asks for it.
It's part of your charm man. All right, So here
is the conundrum. Deshauna Watson is a despicable sexual predator
(01:17:05):
fact no criminal charges, but he slings ball, lurker well coercion,
multiple multiple payouts to save himself from serious legal issues.
(01:17:25):
He's a creeper. He is the obvious definition of a creeper.
There's something amiss about needing what was it sixty six messuses? Yeah, okay,
so that's the Shawan off the field. On the field,
he is an underperforming, very highly compensated quarterback. Yes, he's
been terrible. He's been one of the worst quarterbacks in football.
(01:17:46):
He's probably one of the five worst in the NFL
this season. Yes, okay, so he's out there yesterday trying
to help the Browns and he tears his achilles and ruptures.
I guess this is what they have done. Yeah, and
he's done for the season. And if you saw the highlights,
he put a towel over his head and he was
crying because obviously A's in pain. B he has not
(01:18:08):
been able to stay healthy at any point as a
member of the Cleveland Browns. Worst contract in the NFL,
and it's and he knows that he's going to be
compassing a lot of money for a guy that is
significantly underachieved as a Cleveland brown So what did a
lot of fans I don't know how about the number
would be. Now there is there is a Twitter feed
out there that has some stuff that's been piped in
(01:18:28):
that wasn't true. So you got to be really careful
what you look at and what you don't look at.
But by no means did Deshaun Watson get any sort
of we feel sorry for you applause from the fans
that were in Cleveland yesterday, they basically got of you suck,
you pay all this money and you're a creeper. Well
a NFL player, And actually several NFL players went to
(01:18:50):
his defense yesterday and helped me out with this connor.
It was Jameis Winston, right, the guy who eventually replaced him. Okay,
Jameis Winston. It was Dorian Thompson Robinson. And then think, yes,
did he get hurt too? He had to because James quarterback.
Speaker 3 (01:19:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:19:05):
So Jamis was asked by a member of the Cleveland
media his thoughts about Deshaun Watson being booed by the
home fans as he was carted off the field.
Speaker 12 (01:19:15):
I was taught to love no matter the circumstances, especially
for people who do right by you. I'm grateful that
I had a chance to serve the Sun, but I
am very upset with the reaction to a man that
has had the world against him for the past four years,
(01:19:39):
and he put his body and life on the line
for this city every single day, regardless of your perception,
regardless of what you thought should happen with him.
Speaker 6 (01:19:52):
He committed every single day that I've been here, to
be the best that.
Speaker 12 (01:19:57):
He can be for this team. And I know I
I come from the Deep South, Birmingham, Alabama, best my Alabama,
so I know the standard that hungry fans want. But
the way I was raised, I will never I will
never pull on a man when he's down, but I
(01:20:18):
will be the person to lift him up. And that
all of us have unique experiences. All of us have circumstances, conditions,
and facts that we face every single day. And I
pride myself in being a man of increase and being
a man that wants the best out of everybody. I
tell myself every morning what I want for myself, I
(01:20:41):
want for everyone, and I do not want the treatment
that DeShawn Watson has received from these passionate fans.
Speaker 3 (01:20:51):
I know you love this game.
Speaker 12 (01:20:53):
When I first got here, I knew these were some
amazing fans. But Dashawn was treated badly and now he
has to overcome another obstacle.
Speaker 9 (01:21:02):
So I'm gonna support him.
Speaker 12 (01:21:04):
I'm gonna lift them up, and I'm a beata for
him because I see the way he fights, I see
the way that he works, and I know who he
is as a person.
Speaker 6 (01:21:14):
And as an NFL quarterback. And that's all I have
to say. To address him.
Speaker 2 (01:21:24):
These obstacles he said to overcome ross were created by himself.
It was what obstacles? Two dozen of lawsuits and two
hundred and thirty million dollars in which he paid out
on all those and shoulder surgery. Yeah, that that happens. Yeah,
he's paying out a bunch of lawsuits. Apparently more a river.
(01:21:47):
I mean, I here's here's my elementary thought of this.
I don't like when an injured player gets cheered off
the field. M Number two. There are exceptions to every rule.
There are exception number two. If Deshaun Watson was passing
the ball beautifully like he did as a Houston Texan,
(01:22:09):
as a Cleveland Brown, the Cleveland Brown fan would have
forgotten all the things of it happened off the field,
and they would have cheered for him because their hero
was leaving the field. That's true. So you have a
combination of he sucks and the alligate and the allegations,
the lawsuits that were filed, and it's a perfect recipe
(01:22:31):
for it. Let's boo the hell out of this guy
who has been a major disappointment for our team both
on and off the field. Yeah, you're right, and I
don't know. I mean, if if Deshaun Watson, if the
Browns were five and one and Deshaun Watson had thrown
eighteen touchdowns and two picks, does he get booed when
he's off the field like that? Absolutely? Absolutely not. Harrison
(01:22:53):
Butker got destroyed this offseason for his political views. When
he made the kick against was a Cincinnati it was
somebody big, it was a big doubleheader game. They're all cheering.
They all cheered for him. We as sports fans forget
about everything off the field stuff. As long as on
the field stuff helps our team. That is correct. So
(01:23:16):
that's the only way I would go. Cleveland, you might
have been a little tough, because you would if he
would have been good for you, you wouldn't have done
what you did. Oh, Cleveland fans are big time hypocrites.
They were all putting out not all of them, Okay,
not every single one. There was a very very very
large portion of the fan base that I saw on
Twitter and posting on people putting on fans signs up
(01:23:39):
about Deshaun Watson, and they were making dolls with him,
like on a massage table and all this stuff in
support of Deshaun Watson. It was. It was very bad. Yeah,
So that's the only bit of defense I can give
to Deshaun. The Jamis Winston little monologue. There was very
(01:24:00):
heavy hand. It was over the top, and that's Jameis
Winston is like that. He's kind of a character. And
he says all these weird, bizarre things and let's go
eat at w and makes all these if he's strong,
and I said he's strong, and he's strong and then
was strong then and we're like, what what are you
talking about, Jamis? And about what Jameis likes to steal
crab legs from grocery stores. Well, yes, So I don't
(01:24:25):
know how the country because I didn't watch in the
national shows. I've been kind of proud of myself. I'm
not watching any of those national shows. I'm more proud
of you. It's been a long while. I'm very proud.
I'm curious what the national perspective was on this, because
at least from my perspective, it was you don't bow
an athlete off the field. But this is a little
bit of a different sorry, because at the end of
(01:24:46):
the day, Deshaun's just not a very good person. Would
I have bowed him because he tore his achilles. No
I would have boot him because of but what he did.
But you don't dissect booze when it happens. No, when
you when you brew a guy cart off the field,
that's the indication of you suck. We don't feel bad
for you. And am I going to shed a tear
exactly for Deshaun Watson. Look, you ripped your achilles, tough,
(01:25:10):
you got two hundred and thirty million dollars. You should
probably be in jail. He's very lucky, he's not. But
you got rusty hardin you got the money to afford.
If Deshaun Watson had twenty five cases against him and
he didn't have as much money as he did to
get the best lawyers on the planet, probably something he
would be. He would not be been on the field
(01:25:31):
in Cleveland the last couple of years. So while it's
not classy, it's kind of understandable. But the thing that
the thing that I have on the I have on
the decide and the Deshaun side of it is if
he was throwing for tour, if he was having a
Pat Mahomes season in Cleveland, no one would have aways
been bad. Actually, my point. If you'd have been a
late quarterback this year, no one would have booed him
(01:25:53):
the way they booed him yesterday. Right, So Cleveland fans
are hypocrites. I'm with you on that, Okay, all right,
final hour of the show. Uh oh you you have
love a bad name again. I don't know it's a
good song. Sure, Hony fell with bon Jovie in general, Mmm,
slightly over. There are people on this planet do act
(01:26:17):
like they're one of the greatest bands of all time,
and they just made a couple of eighties hair band hits.
They're fine, just a couple. I want to Not knowing
their discography, I'm gonna assume that if I had more
than two hits. Now, if I'm liquored up at one
thirty and uh, what's their their big hit? You know,
the one that everyone sings like. It's not coming to
(01:26:37):
my mind right now, some sugar. No, that's that's somebody else.
It's my life. No, living on a prayer. Yeah, if
it's one thirty, you're lickered up and I can't hear you,
and living on a prayer comes on?
Speaker 3 (01:26:48):
Yeah?
Speaker 9 (01:26:50):
How many?
Speaker 2 (01:26:51):
I'm screaming it. Let's go. We're gonna look at the
bon Jovi desography, how many hits they had? Final Hour,
the Matt Thomas Sugar Today, I don't care net something,
what's place? Let's play you give a love a bad
name and we'll write the song. And when we come
back with those highlights, let's say about the quality home
Products of Texas. They are looking for electricians or looking
for plumbers to help them install generat stand by generators.
(01:27:11):
If you are in that industry or you're thinking about
making a career switch, how aby going to qualitytx dot
com and applying online for you to work with the
great folks at Quality Home Products at Texas. Competitive pay
benefits four ol win K, career advancement and paid time off, holidays, vacations,
all that kind of good stuff, and a chance to
work with a company that is powering up Houston. Win
(01:27:32):
the power grid suffers qualitytx dot Com, qualitytx dot Com
to find out more about those Generax stand by generators
and to apply for a company that is growing by
leaps and bounds QUALITYTX dot Com Electricians plumbers apply now
make that career change qualitytx dot.
Speaker 1 (01:27:48):
Com Launch Timers. This is the Matt Thomas show.
Speaker 9 (01:27:55):
Cross the field.
Speaker 4 (01:27:58):
Here's love to the z diving catch what to catch
it is by craft for the score here it is
mixing round and end for the touchdown.
Speaker 2 (01:28:10):
Took two plays to bring it home.
Speaker 6 (01:28:13):
They get the play in the books.
Speaker 4 (01:28:14):
Now they don't challenge it in time. They go along.
Speaker 2 (01:28:16):
They got him.
Speaker 4 (01:28:17):
They get the completion near the one yard line, touchdown.
Duntavian Wicks got the forty line here, collapse the edges and.
Speaker 6 (01:28:27):
Force it back inside.
Speaker 4 (01:28:29):
There's mixing, mixing finds his way to the end zone
and another Houston touchdown. It's a great adjustment se getting
goal from eight yards out.
Speaker 6 (01:28:41):
Right back to Jacobs.
Speaker 4 (01:28:42):
No one there for him this time touchdown. Green Bay
hit his first ever touchdown reception. Paul on the veteran
just came here on Wednesday.
Speaker 6 (01:28:52):
He's got this to win it. Go snap the kid
and his garden.
Speaker 2 (01:29:02):
Brandon makemanness. Do we do our bon Jovi desography or
what how we feel about their star power? And they
still feel stadiums up right? Are they still around? I
guess it's my life living on our prayer. Those are classics.
(01:29:24):
You give love a bad name. Three hits, Uh runaway
bad medicine. That's the other one that's a jam. Bad
Medicine gets the people going. That's four, and then there's
a bunch of covers of old sixties of rock bands
wanted dead or alive. Dead or dead or alive gets
the people going. You can you can fill up Cynthia
Woods with them, absolutely, with what's left of them. I
(01:29:46):
don't know anybody die. Everybody good, everybody's around, Are you sure?
Speaker 9 (01:29:50):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:29:51):
You see, you're not sure that every member of the
I can't remember I remember a very band name. So yeah.
I got criticism for that when some random band member
from some band died, like, oh, we're gonna miss his drums,
like you didn't even know who he was. Living on
a prayer and you give love a bad name. Back
to back number one hits. In nineteen eighty six, Bad
Medicine number one, I'll Be There for You number one,
(01:30:13):
Oh this is you know what we have we you
and me underrated. Then They've got Always they got Stars
Always was a number four hit. Huh, it's my life
wasn't wait, that's can't be right. That has to be
a re release, all right, bon jovie here on the
seven ninety. It's my life was in two thousand? Is
that accurate. They haven't had a hit in twenty five years.
(01:30:37):
I mean, it's I'm impressed that they had one after
having hits in eighty six. That's true, that's true. Bon
Joey bought some sports teams too, did he not? They
owned the Philadelphia Soul of the Arena Football League. You know,
Oh that's going I think not. Well, no, there's no Reno,
no Arena Football League. That's a defunct league. I've worked for. Yeah,
(01:31:00):
I've worked for two defunct leagues. Actually three, I think
I think you worked for like five defunct teams. Okay,
I've uh, yeah, it's right. The Minnesota Swarms, it was
an indoor lacrosse team. They're gone. How do you how
does one call indoor lacrosse? Very well, they loved me.
Give me a technical lacrosse term, like when I think, well,
first of all, indoors box lacrosse. They don't call it indoor.
(01:31:21):
And then I've forgotten the rest. Hm, what's the little
basket they have called highlight? I don't believe you don't
know what it's called. You called the games.
Speaker 3 (01:31:31):
I'm done.
Speaker 2 (01:31:32):
I've done a swarm game across six seventeen years. Yeah,
they paid me very minimum money, but that I get
to eat in their club suites at the arena, which
was kind of nice. Oh, it's just called across box
lacrosse indoor. No, the stick they use lacrosse stick. Okay,
that's fine. So so teams I've never I know, I've
(01:31:53):
done games for the no longer exist. The Texas Terror
slash Houston Thunderbears, rip Houston Hotshots, correct, Minnesota Swarm. That's three,
the Comets the Commas is four, and I never did
any arena. I'm sensing a pattern here. I'm sensing a pattern.
I better go to cash those checks, all right, two
(01:32:15):
o nine on Sports Talk seven ninety seven one three
two one two five seven ninety seven one three two
one two five seven Etty, what are your takeaways from
the game? Takeaways, Let's go, Let's go to the good
and batteral quick on this, Okay, Joe Mixon, what a
game changer he is. And Texan's MVP Joe Mixing. Sorry
to be disrespectful, but Damien Pears and Wale and may
(01:32:36):
he rest in peace, can't make He's not dead. He
was on the Vikings returning kicks. Yeah, what a difference
A one running back makes compared to number two, number three,
number four, Yes, so that's number one. Um Kimi Fairbaron
kicked fifty plus yard outdoors. Usually those kickers are usually
pretty good indoors, but not so hot outdoors. He nailed
a fifty plus yard yesterday. Yes, uh was too conservative
(01:33:01):
in the last I said pluses, Oh, pluses, I'm sorry.
Speaker 9 (01:33:04):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:33:06):
Oh nevill Hewitt, Neville Hewitt and Jake Canson. Yes, nevill
He and Jake Canson were pretty good. Jake Canson I
thought was a character in Metro's place, But no, he's
an NFL linebacker, so he's the positives on them, the negatives. Yes, uh,
offensive line, do you give him an F? Can you
give an F? Can you give an F when Joe
(01:33:27):
Mixon gets the holes?
Speaker 12 (01:33:28):
Or no?
Speaker 2 (01:33:30):
Mmm, I'm not going to give them an F. No
D D past blocking F run blocking B overall grade D.
There were a lot of times where he was Joe
Mixon wasn't touched until he was a few yards down
the field. There were some beautifully blocked run places. J
Stroud underwhelming, Tank Dell underwhelming. Yes, uh, Sefon Diggs underwhelming,
(01:33:55):
but they were just under pressure. The entire time and
that maybe that goes back to the offensive line. So
we're gonna do and I'm okay doing it. Are we
gonna blame everything about the lack of a passing game
yesterday on the on the pass protection. Yeah, I guess
we have to. When teams blitz and stunt, Matt. This
is from Fantasy Points, who does advanced data, which you love.
(01:34:16):
Oh yeah, here we go. Their pressure rate is seventy
five percent stunting with blitzes seventy five percent pressure rate.
I don't know if you know that's not good. How
did the offensive line great out yesterday? Do we the
dorks over at ProFootball normally release those on Mondays or
(01:34:37):
Tuesday Tuesdays. We can give it, we can do a
deeper dive in Tod's going to be poor.
Speaker 3 (01:34:41):
Yeah, it was bad.
Speaker 2 (01:34:42):
Everybody was getting lost.
Speaker 3 (01:34:43):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:34:43):
You can blame Dario Gunbowale, whoever you want. There was
just too many free runners coming in. Titus Howard tripping
over his own feet. I don't know if somebody and
one of the packers tied his shoelaces together. I'm not sure. Spencer,
I mean, uh, special teams were good. Tommy is it
Tommy Townsend, the good man, he was booming him out. Well, yeah,
he was a I think he was all pro with
the Chiefs, but he had a kind of a sluggish
(01:35:04):
start here. Yeah, but he's obviously rebounded from that side.
Get into punting technical terms, I mean, we don't have to.
Let's see what else. I thought Demiko was underwhelming. I thought, yes,
Flollock was underwhelming. Anything else that we need to get into. Injuries?
You know, you had four starters, five regular players out
(01:35:27):
them's the Brakes, right, Yeah, But that the defense was great.
I thought Will Anderson gutted through a shoulder issue a
couple different times in the game and was able to
perform yesterday, so that was good for him. I thought
the defense played very well all things considered. And I'll
tell you what Jordan Loved to me, was good but
not great to me. That's the Jordan Love experience. He's
(01:35:47):
gonna make you go wow. I mean, he tried to
throw the game away when he threw that ball down
to Wicks, and then in the end of the game
in the middle of the field when it was a
one on one situation that was nearly picked. Yeah. There,
I mean, he could have been picked and at least
one more time, if not too.
Speaker 12 (01:36:03):
So.
Speaker 2 (01:36:04):
Yeah, I I I thought they were good. I looked
at Green Bay yesterday, like, that's a five and two
football team that is nothing close to Detroit, nothing close
to Minnesota, nothing close to Philadelphia. No, they, as one
of the callers said earlier, tier two. You know what,
they're good in their home stadium. Tier two is good.
But it's they're they're not looking like anybody's quaking in
(01:36:27):
their boots. It's for like Kansas City or Baltimore. And
I got one more thing real quickly than thirty seconds left. Okay,
I don't think if you're an opposing team you should
be lambo leaping anywhere. And if you go into lambeau
leap in your posing team, you should get your ass kicked. Well,
he went towards a Texans fan. There was one Texan
phantom to leap towards that guy. Yeah, that was a mistake.
Just throw the ball down and celebrate fun. Yeah, and
(01:36:49):
it was all I've getting my ass kicked. No, you
deserve lambo fail like going in there and trying to
get a kiss from Texas darling in the bullpen. What Yeah,
I opposing teams going in there.
Speaker 9 (01:37:00):
Where's Darling?
Speaker 2 (01:37:01):
I'm gonna everything she can get me a big smooch?
What yeah, Okay, let let the Texas players make out
with Darlene in the bulpar fixation on Texas. Darlene, I
haven't talked about her Harley at all this year. How
she doing. I'm sure she's great. She runs still the
bling from the different department store she's worked at. I
don't know, Oh, Darlene, how's traveling? Did travel Texas pro
(01:37:26):
create this weekend?
Speaker 12 (01:37:27):

Are her pearly white teeth? Does she smile in these things?
Yes she does. She could be toothless and you wouldn't

that sort of thing, ample breasts. All right, here's how
(01:39:34):
she did this weekend Eagles minus three win. I think
that is a win. Kirk Cousin's over thirty five and
a half past attempts, I don't know. I I'll go.
I think he was under, but we'll go. Look came
over the fall points. She moneyline parlayed the following Oh,
my lord, Commanders win, Yes, Rams win, Bengals win, Bill's win.
(01:39:59):
Now those are all heavy.
Speaker 16 (01:40:00):
Yeah, what is that?
Speaker 9 (01:40:01):
Getter?
Speaker 3 (01:40:01):
Even money?
Speaker 2 (01:40:04):
That is to make a deep cut, Tony the Hatchetman,
Valentine stuff. She she parlayed all the heavy favorites. Yeah,
good for her. Hey, if you would have taken the
four money line favorites heavy, you could have turned that
twenty five dollars been into forty dollars.
Speaker 9 (01:40:23):
Jump.
Speaker 2 (01:40:24):
Let me see, well, maybe she was on a heater.
Kirk Cousins.
Speaker 3 (01:40:27):
What what was the total?
Speaker 2 (01:40:28):
Thirty five and a half? Ooh, we had thirty five.
That's an l oh no. By the way, front of
the show says that John Bond Joby recently saved a
woman from jumping off a bridge. Really did you write
a song about it? I don't know, but I stay
off that bridge? Why does he sound like he was

(01:40:49):
I don't know post wllones win country. Why can't he
they did? Yeah, post bones one person matt Oh, sorry, Hey,
I'm getting posting alone and jelly roll mixed up? Sorry? Yeah,
So the jelly isn't it? Is it mister jelly roll

Senior jelly roll? Okay, I got you.

Speaker 3 (01:41:44):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (01:41:44):
Look, I turned kid high Rocky Rick and Sugar line
on seven and he what's on your mind? This afternoon.
Speaker 17 (01:41:51):
Hey man, Uh, I just got arena football fun fact
for you.
Speaker 2 (01:41:55):
How fun is it?
Speaker 3 (01:41:56):
One to ten? It's a ten?
Speaker 2 (01:41:58):
All right?
Speaker 3 (01:41:59):
So, uh, do you remember when you were calling the
games who the quarterback was?
Speaker 2 (01:42:04):
Yeah, it was Clint Dzel exactly, my.
Speaker 17 (01:42:07):
One of my buddies. His son plays for Clint at
Texas and Commerce. So Clinton Clint to the head coach
down there, and yeah we went to riche his son
with the rich point and then uh plays down there now.
Speaker 2 (01:42:21):
And I thought it was interesting as soon as you
brought up the Thunderbears. Well, Rick, first of all, I
find it to be a fun fact of a ten.
H since Ross does not have any sort of arena
football history. How fun of a fact is that about it?
One and a half?
Speaker 3 (01:42:32):
Right now?
Speaker 2 (01:42:32):
You hear that, Rick, he says, a fun fact of
one and a half. Well, here's the thing. I heard
that he has an extra supply of water bottles. Oh yeah,
that's gid get him, Rick, get him? You know, no
I don't. They're all gone, But now how is that extra?
They're all on the field.
Speaker 17 (01:42:50):
Yeah, they're just waiting until, you know, somebody else puts
it on him.
Speaker 3 (01:42:53):
So you know his opinion.
Speaker 17 (01:42:56):
And that doesn't matter too much because if you don't
appreciate you arena football, I mean, how big of a thing.
Speaker 2 (01:43:00):
Can he be? Exactly exactly? I love arena football, if
you know what, I know that we're talking about hockey
and we're talking about bringing the WNBA here. We got
to bring arena f The league folded multiple times. Let's
give it up. I'm ready, I'm ready. I'm ready to
do some more arena football. You just want some more checks?
Speaker 3 (01:43:17):
Yeah?
Speaker 12 (01:43:18):
I do.
Speaker 2 (01:43:19):
What does I want to stop making money? Have you
ever heard anybody say I'm got plenty?
Speaker 15 (01:43:22):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:43:23):
Not really would like to make Would you like to
make some more money?
Speaker 9 (01:43:25):
No?
Speaker 3 (01:43:25):
I'm good.
Speaker 2 (01:43:26):
I don't believe that for a second.
Speaker 3 (01:43:27):
What you got for me?
Speaker 2 (01:43:28):
What do you got for me? You got a Korean
barbecue lunch for me. That's all my bonus. So we'll see.
Speaker 3 (01:43:33):
Let me go check. I gotta check on a.
Speaker 2 (01:43:35):
Couple of things. But that's gonna be great. I already
know where we're going to all right, real quick, speaking
of the WNBA, I don't know how I possibly segue
into this. Okay, did you hear the coach of the
uh Links basically ripping the crap out of the officials. Yes,
by the way, the lead headline this is fresh. Actually,
(01:43:55):
w NBA players opt out of CBA, they face a
twenty five work stoppage? Is it really works avage if
nobody knows about it to begin with? They're opting out
of their CBA. Yes, already made a deal. They already
got chartered airplanes, bigger salaries. What else do they want?
I mean, you can only ride Caitlin Clark's coattails enough.
(01:44:17):
HM star driven league. Oh they all are. I mean
the the NBA was floundering until Magic and Larry Bird
showed up. Yeah, okay, so the Links lost to the
Liberty yesterday. Wow, you said you were recovering and you
said you watched that. I actually did.
Speaker 12 (01:44:34):
It.
Speaker 2 (01:44:34):
Was it was game five, it was close, it is
the fourth quarter. I'm like, yeah, I'll watch it. I mean,
I have multiple TVs displaying in my home, so I
had it on one of them. And then when it
was like five minutes left and it was closed, I
was like, all right, let me put let me flip
this thing on and focus on it. And then it
went to overtime and I'm like, dang it, come on, man,
all right so the Links have a coach. Yes, and
her name is Cheryl Reeve. Okay, she said that. Let
(01:44:59):
me give you I no, all the headlines will be
Reeves Christ foul bring it on because this blank was
stolen from us. Matthews was stolen from us. Wow. Okay,
I want to read some more inflammatory quotes here because
I mean I would say, let's see here, I'm getting
(01:45:23):
a bunch of Liberty calls in here. I'm trying to
try to what she said. Basically, she said that there
was not a foul with all three officials screwed up
on the play. They challenged the call, and the folks
missed it. She wants a third party to come in
and start watching these things. Wow, she ripped the crap
out of the WNBA for missing a call that eventually
(01:45:45):
sent the game the overtime. Now, if you want to
go look at the video of this, as I've done
a very poor job of explaining this, Yeah, you did horribly.
I fully admit that not only was there a foul
called on her player that sent the Liberty the free
throw line, but the Liberty player took four to five
steps before she got contact Brianda Stewart. Yeah, now as
(01:46:09):
I was watching this, Matt because I told her this
is why, this is why you come to me from
my WNBA expertise, I come to nothing else is correctly
called a stance. Now, though she did not hit the
woman on the wrist or the arm, but there was
some body contact to where there could have been called
a blocking foul. I thought it, I'll get a travel
(01:46:29):
call before then did you see the non travel call? Yeah,
that was horrible. That's well, welcome to the NBA is
like that too. There's a traveling on every play in
the NBA. So I thought in the moment, I thought,
whatever the call was should have stood if it were
a foul. This is why I hate the clear and
obvious because if you asked me, is that a foul
or not? I would say that's not a foul. But
(01:46:50):
then you asked me, is that clear and obvious overturning?
I would say no, it's not clear and obvious overturning.
So I hate that language and all reviewing. It's either
a foul or it's not. And to me, that was
not a foul. Yeah, but she's basically ripping that. I mean,
this is after the final game of a series yeah,
it's it's game five? What rigging for?
Speaker 9 (01:47:06):
What? What?
Speaker 2 (01:47:07):
Why are they rigging the game? Because I think that
New York carries bigger cachet, which the answer is no,
it doesn't. But it's already game five of the championship.
What game do they have for getting the New York
their first championship? And wouldn't they have been rigging it
for the last several years? It wasn't that New York
Liberties first championship in twenty eight years? It makes absolutely
no sense, absolutely no sense.
Speaker 3 (01:47:24):
All right?
Speaker 2 (01:47:24):
Seven one three two one two five seven, And that
will conclude today's edition of WNBA Converse. You said you'd
never bring it up again, did I really? Yeah, you
went back on your word used to it. I just
think it's funny that but they're rigging, Yeah, that they're
rigging it in game five rigging, all right? I love it.
The WNBA is really coming of age when every when
coaches are calling them rigging out for rigging it. Want

We are waiting to hear from Damiko Ryans and his
weekly Monday after football game press conference right now. Before
we do that, let's go to Brandon. I'm seven nine
and two thirty five Brandon. Good afternoon.
Speaker 3 (01:48:31):
Hey, how's it going guys? Good Matt. I'm going to
help you out here a little bit.
Speaker 18 (01:48:36):
I think at one point Post Malone and Jelly Rowl
may have done a performance together, so maybe that's why
you were thinking they were multiple people for post Malone.
Speaker 2 (01:48:47):
Brandon, all I have to say back to you is
thank you.
Speaker 18 (01:48:51):
The other thing on the Texas, I have something on
the Texans, but on the Texas football thing. Throwing stuff
on the field, that's just part of being in the SEC.
I don't know if Ross is still there or not.
Speaker 9 (01:49:03):
But.
Speaker 3 (01:49:05):
That's part of the deal. Ross Gordy has taught you
over the years.
Speaker 2 (01:49:08):
It just terrible. It was so trashy. I was embarrassed
when it happened.
Speaker 18 (01:49:13):
That that being said, you'll probably want to go ahead
and not lose at Vanderbilt this coming week.
Speaker 3 (01:49:19):
Yeah, that's not a give anymore. No, it's not.
Speaker 2 (01:49:22):
It's gonna be tough.
Speaker 3 (01:49:24):
On the Texans.
Speaker 18 (01:49:25):
LL y'all kind of brought it up earlier. People are
concerned about all the injuries and the defense. The worst
part of the game yesterday was the part that wasn't injured,
the offensive line, and I think that's the biggest issue
they have going forward. I wonder if at some point
we see Blake Fisher coming into instead of Titus Howard,
or get Jared Patterson in there instead of just to
(01:49:46):
change something up a little bit.
Speaker 2 (01:49:47):
Oh, I'm sure that depth chart issues are going to
be discussed this week for sure. Blake Fisher has been
terrible though when he's come in from when Tunsel's gone down.
A couple of times and when Titus Howard was out
Blake Blake Fisher is not the answer to me. He's
he's significantly worse than Titus. Non experience at all and
probably yeah, not to say you can't get better. He's
super young. All right, let's go to press conference down
with Demiko.
Speaker 16 (01:50:10):
We have a lot of things to clean up when
it comes to you know, our protection, and it's everyone involved,
right olon tight ends backs. Is everybody working together, being
on the same page and just getting it done. Like
we've had multiple weeks where the same things have hurt
us multiple times, so we have to get it fixed,
starting with the coaches and down to the players of
(01:50:31):
finishing and executing now as far as.
Speaker 2 (01:50:34):
The same things like do you like personnel changes or
just schematic like.
Speaker 3 (01:50:40):
Is it is it just as simple as execution or
if it's been the same thing.
Speaker 9 (01:50:43):
For a few weeks.
Speaker 3 (01:50:45):
Yeah, for me, everything is on the table when it
comes to it has to get fixed.
Speaker 9 (01:50:49):
Where is it Chris Grosser right now and being able
to turn things around?
Speaker 16 (01:50:53):
Yeah, like I said it, when it comes to it,
I know how we're a coach, what we're asking asking
to be done, and it's just it's not showing up
on the tape. So it's and it's not just one person,
it's the entire thing. So it's just the entire offense
from the top to the bottom. We have to get
it cleaned up, not one person or one thing, but
(01:51:13):
multiple things, multiple issues.
Speaker 3 (01:51:15):
That we have to get collectively. We have to get
it fixed.
Speaker 8 (01:51:19):
Well, the play that looked like it may have gone backwards,
you know for the touchdown, was there a consideration the
challenging that did you get into it?
Speaker 16 (01:51:27):
Maybe that was not a good time to challenge. Yeah,
from the guys upstairs, it wasn't and they thought it
was forward. So I mean, looking back at it, and
should I have challenged it? Yes, it's always you know,
you look back hindsight, it's always twenty twenty, So you're
looking back like should I throw the challenge? You know,
maybe throw it there? So look at myself too. I
wish I would have thrown it there, just to force
(01:51:49):
them to make a decision.
Speaker 6 (01:51:52):
On the third and fifteen, the final offensive play.
Speaker 18 (01:51:56):
Now that you've looked at it, are you still please
with the with the decision and the and the play
called there?
Speaker 3 (01:52:03):
Yeah, we had a one on one opportunity right there.
Speaker 16 (01:52:06):
And we have to win that one on one opportunity,
which you know, we put tanking CJ in their spot
to win a one on one opportunity, and we we
did it.
Speaker 3 (01:52:14):
Make the play, didn't get it done.
Speaker 2 (01:52:17):
It's it was it was short of the sticks and
it was near the sidelines.
Speaker 3 (01:52:21):
The goal is to complete the past. The goal is
to complete the past.
Speaker 10 (01:52:26):
When some of the offensive struggles, what gives you the
confidence that things can be fixed this season?
Speaker 3 (01:52:31):
Mans, the guys have done it multiple multiple games.
Speaker 16 (01:52:35):
We've had a lot of great games where we have
protected very well and we've done a great job of
protecting and allowing CJ to throw for over three hundred
yards in games. So it's not like it's not something
we can't get done. It's just a matter of us
executing and finishing and being on the details. Every single
time we go out. It'll always be about us and
us execute them. We didn't execute well. They made some
(01:52:57):
plays on us, and you know they unfourteen there. We
gave 'em some players that kind of knocked us out
of field goal range to take points off the board.
Speaker 10 (01:53:05):
You love the offensive line with a lot of the
guys talking and they were accountable about it. You talk
about communication issues. There were a lot of free rushers
where you just see a guy unblocked completely. Is it
as simple as the communication this year? I mean, obviously physically,
you guys have a lot of large investment. These guys
you feel good about they're ability to fly.
Speaker 16 (01:53:25):
Everything's gonna start with communication, and it's gonna start with
guys being clear and concise on what they're doing upfront.
So if it all starts communicating, everybody being on the
same page.
Speaker 9 (01:53:36):
Oh how much? Yeah? Cause on the road feel like
that's when most of you you guys have sacks popped up.
Obviously the beard of the game, you guys had a
few sacks that you guys allowed. By home, the communication
seems to be more on and sync, But on the road,
it seems.
Speaker 5 (01:53:50):
Like the communication you can kind of get a little
haywire when it comes to the offensive line of protection.
Speaker 9 (01:53:54):
How much is is the crowd noise factory?
Speaker 5 (01:53:56):
And how much is just not guys gonna be on
the same pig Cause like, why is it on the
road picking up the stunts?
Speaker 9 (01:54:02):
Isn't that effective when you got it right home?
Speaker 3 (01:54:04):
Yeah?
Speaker 16 (01:54:04):
Of course, man on the road, for every team, it's
gonna be more difficult with the crowd noise, right, it's
gonna That's why fans are important. They can truly affect
the game by creating noise, especially in those third down situations.
So we have to communicate in the huddle, get out
of the other huddle sooner, right, more urgency to get
(01:54:25):
to the line so we can communicate and.
Speaker 3 (01:54:27):
Be on the various looks that we get on third down.
Speaker 8 (01:54:30):
How difficult does it when the offensive line struggling within
a game to maybe adjust things on the fly with
the offense change some of the things that and may
we practice this now it's not available to us because
we're having a hard time blocking.
Speaker 9 (01:54:42):
How difficult is that in a game?
Speaker 3 (01:54:44):
Yeah, that's that's coaching, right.
Speaker 16 (01:54:46):
Good coaches have to make sure we make those adjustments
and get it done within game, right, And that's where
you know, you separate yourself as coach being able to
adjust on the fly from whatever you may have prepared
for and what is happening right at the moment.
Speaker 3 (01:55:00):
So you have to be able to adjust on the
fly and get it fixed.
Speaker 9 (01:55:05):
I had a really good game on the ground. What
was allowing you guys to kind of get Joe incented going.
Speaker 16 (01:55:11):
Off the line, and when it came to the running game,
I felt like our guys did a really good job
of getting good hat placement, hat on a hat, Like,
we had a couple really well executed, well blocked plays,
And it's just showing our guys when we do it
right and we're on the guy we're supposed to be on,
Like and you hand the ball with Joe, Joe is
gonna make some impact plays happen for us, and everybody
(01:55:36):
throws off the momentum that Joe's able to create, Like
with his run style and his playmaking ability right, it's
really huge for our team. So his mentality, how he
runs the ball, it really gives us a chance. Now
we just have to continue to continue to feed him
and continue to be able to clean up our issues
whatever we have there in the passing game to be
able to have a well balanced offense take down.
Speaker 10 (01:55:58):
What do you think it will take to get him
more involved in making the big plays that you saw
from Riki?
Speaker 3 (01:56:05):
Yeah, well, Tank, he just has to keep going.
Speaker 16 (01:56:07):
I believe in Tank, believe he'll be able to make
some big time explosive plays for us.
Speaker 3 (01:56:11):
He just has to keep going. Uh, and he will
do that. I have all the faith in Tank.
Speaker 9 (01:56:17):
What a Neville? What's a to do? Hanson Neville?
Speaker 3 (01:56:22):
Neville stepped in and and played, Uh, played really well
for us.
Speaker 9 (01:56:26):
Uh.
Speaker 16 (01:56:27):
For him to come out that first series, to be
able to start with Petrie, Petrie tip the pass and
for now to get the interception.
Speaker 9 (01:56:35):
Man.
Speaker 16 (01:56:35):
Something we really talked about that we needed that game
was attacking the football and taking the football away. And
Nov made a nice impact play for us there. I
mean third down, third and one short yard of stop.
Speaker 3 (01:56:48):
He made a play. He was flying around and he
played really well for us. And Jake as well.
Speaker 16 (01:56:53):
They did a good job of stepping in and filling
in and being where they were supposed to be and
making some big time plays for us.
Speaker 2 (01:57:01):
Talk do coach games because sway for your tide.
Speaker 16 (01:57:06):
Or yeah, this this game is big this week. We
know co mean the coach coming into our house and
this game for first place. It's a huge game for us.
And you know we have a bad taste in our
mouth from last week. Uh, and so we're excited about
this opportunity. And so I told our guys you can't
get up for this game. And I mean why are
(01:57:28):
you here? So this is a big game. Everybody understands
the impact of this game, and we're excited to move
on to this one.
Speaker 19 (01:57:36):
A lot of the explosive plays through the air coming
with the tight ends versus the receivers like only have
thirty four yards. Where do you think kind of the
tight end passing game was successful and compared to getting very.
Speaker 16 (01:57:49):
How we at You know, we were able to get
one explosive there with Dalton across across the middle when
they were playing three deep. We're able to hit them
with an explosive and Cave got an explosive on a
check that. So those guys were active in the passing game,
not of course overall our passing game.
Speaker 3 (01:58:05):
Yeah, it's not.
Speaker 16 (01:58:08):
Everybody knows. It wasn't good enough across the board. So
we have to find ways to get everybody involved in
the passing game.
Speaker 2 (01:58:14):
Dank ye really, you.
