the right hand and jumped it down follow a trumper
right side from eighteen feet is an airball grabbed by
a man Thompson.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
Twenty six seconds left to go.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
Jalen out baseline left Jampi.
Speaker 4 (00:40):
For a three quarter heys and the Rockets are up
two and one, eleven and one or nine seven straight
for the Rockets.
Speaker 5 (00:49):
Fifteen seconds left to go in the game.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
Thompson comes across the timeline for the Rockets on a
crossover down. The lady goes up and he jams it. Dude.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
Goodness right rock Cuthbert and it's now thirteen.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
Eight hand of the forse Angus ball deflected its stolen.
This will be a steal for Jalen.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
Bounce past to his right, throw down.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
Good gious stealing fronts.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
Welcome back that o'k leak is Jim fine out right
side of Jabbari. He wants a dollar for free. That's
no good offen to rebound outprint and shit.
Speaker 6 (01:21):
Good No, look past to Jabari for the finish. Oh
what an amasic pass? What a big man Nott? He's
seven to Houston? Oh man, are you ready for the
NBA to night?
Speaker 2 (01:34):
I mean we can quitting kissing his guess and Texans
linebackers aren't gonna play. But we can do other things too.
We can't. We knew everything that they can mose. But
it ain't no stopping the new look right, well, not
the new look but the well compensated Rockets. Yeah, I
will be new looks in their bank accounts. I will
be discussing my contract terms with profel Stone coming up
at about to twenty one minutes. Yeah he doesn't control that,
(01:57):
but I know he doesn't even put a good word
in for me. We might have to make you a
cat casualty gets here one more time. I heard this
song yesterday you did? I just have been listening to
the seventies. On seventies it was yacht soul. What does
(02:18):
that even mean? Take it for what it's worth, just
an understanding appreciate it asked the question, and you did
not answer because there is no wing. I didn't make
up the chow. I don't even want to talk about that.
We'll get We'll get to that later.
Speaker 7 (02:31):
All right.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
You know what, I'm gonna google what is yacht soul.
I'm gonna probably they're gonna say late soul songs in
the late seventies. It was completely made up. There was
nobody twenty years ago talking about yacht soul. All right, no,
he said, Man, I can't wait till my new yacht
soul record comes out July twenty twenty three. Google says
yacht's soul music is a genre of music that emerged
(02:52):
in the seventies and eighties. It is a fusion of soul,
R and B, jazz and pop that sounds perfect. That's ridiculous,
Oh so good. Ain't no stop at us now, it's
not a real thing. Let me put it. Never mind,
Let's move on. Let's talk about the Rockets or the Texans. Yeah,
or I don't know your fushbag general manager of the Yankees.
(03:13):
We'll get to that. Oh okay, I honestly didn't even
listen to those comments. We of course we do. I
saw everybody railing on Cashman and I figured that was enough. Well,
I mean we have to do it live on the
radio too. Okay, good. We will also get to what
is I think an interesting night in the NBA. Last night,
Brownie James did make his NBA debut with Pops on
(03:34):
the court. Yes he did, and uh it was for
three minutes. He missed both of his shots. I believe
he gathered one rebound. He was a minus five. Oh,
I didn't even know that. I didn't even look at
the box score that long to figure that out. Uh,
but there is clearly a divided view on what that's like.
(03:57):
Are we getting to that now? Are we getting to
that later? We'll get into it later. What so, what's
other segments we got coming?
Speaker 8 (04:02):
All right?
Speaker 2 (04:02):
We got Rafelstone Rocket Center manager at twelve thirty wonderful one.
Shut your bum ass up, mate, Yeah, that ties into
what we were just talking about. I got one thirty
for some people.
Speaker 9 (04:14):
Really.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
Oh yeah, okay, but we'll get probably we'll probably get
to Brownie earlier than one thirty. Okay, but we can
also we get reset. By the way, I've got an
early shut of bomb mass happening. It's regarding my phone.
Speaker 5 (04:24):
What happened.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
You'll find out at one thirty. Did the Russians finally
hack you?
Speaker 5 (04:28):
Well?
Speaker 2 (04:29):
I told you not to click those links in the DMS. Maddie,
that's true. By the way, we both lose on our
got feelings. Yesterday, Carlin Thomas got to her one thousand
color assists. Last night, you said it was gonna happen Friday.
Did I thought it was that's gonna happen at all. Oh,
they're double worst. We'll just within the next week. So
(04:50):
I lost. Congratulations to carl Town. They're doing good, So
thank you for everybody that said the nice wishes out
that her direction. So it's good, all right. The Texans
did add a lineback today where I believe Stan Northfleet
wants to make a sweet love to the man. I
think he's got him first team All Pro in the
next ten straight years, as does Chris Gordy, which I
was like, why is he defending him so hard? And
(05:10):
then I realized where he went to school. It's awful, Louisiana.
It's absolutely awful that Gordy just goes overboard for anything. LSU.
I mean, look, I love my Houston Cougars. Yes, and
Grant Stuboy we had nineteen tackles this week. Wow, take
Dellhead zero catches. But I wasn't wrong about that. One
(05:32):
point being is this, I love my Cougars, but they
have their own space and they're gonna have it. And
there's not that many of them in the NFL. It's
a few, so I mean it's a different story. I mean,
at least with LSU, you got you know, Justin Jefferson.
But no matter what player is talked about with LSU,
like he's probably I guarantee you I can get Gordian
here in the next two minutes and have a deep
(05:52):
dive into why JaMarcus Russell deserves a second chance. Yeah,
I bet he will. Who's the other stiff quarterback? Zach
Mettenberger's out of that one, Maddy mack No at Flynn. Yeah,
I mean there's the stiff quarterbacks at LSU. Go way deep. Yeah,
I'm gonna be careful because we worked for the LSU mafia,
so I know exactly. But yeah, and my favorite part
(06:13):
is what he says, he's not a hop Yeah he's not.
It's it should be called locked on sec. But I
really really am locked in on s L s ute Alabama,
hate Alabama, and he likes to twist a knife when
Texas suffers. That's fine. It was one blemish.
Speaker 8 (06:29):
I you know what.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
I don't like texts either, But I'm telling you Texas
is going to play for the national championship. I don't
know now. Granted, Queen Queen yours.
Speaker 10 (06:39):
Who.
Speaker 2 (06:41):
He was terrible, terrible for a second straight week. Honestly,
we don't need to talk about it. Okay, we'll skip it,
thank you. We got this week Vanderbilt. Oh, that's right
atand that's a guaranteed win game. No it's not, Yeah
it is. You're not losing in vanderbl I literally took
down the gold post against Alabama. Yeah, but you're gonna
you're not letting that happen. And then there were supposed to.
They were like thirteen and a half point dogs to
(07:02):
uh Kentucky and beat them. Now, man is a spry underdog.
You're fine. I'm scared. They're quarterbacks like five seven. Yeah,
but he's very good. He's got like eleven touchdowns and
like no picks or one pick or something. You guys
gonna fill the stadium up like Alabama does when Texas
plays at Vanderbilt. I'm not gonna be going. That's a
good trip when you think Nash's nice. I've only been
in Nashville a couple of times. I don't know much
(07:23):
about it, but I when I've been there, I've enjoyed it.
I'll be there for a wedding in April. Really, who's
getting married people?
Speaker 5 (07:29):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (07:29):
I assume it's compared to robots. I didn't think it
would robots. Yeah, I'm not going for a robot wedding,
So it's an AI wedding, is what you're telling them? No,
I said people, Okay, you just don't want to see
who they are. That's fine. Yeah, let's be super secretive wedding. No,
it's not just you always like to pry, and sometimes
I just like to shut you down. I asked a
simple question. Someone says, I'm going to wedding. Who's getting
(07:51):
other people? Nobody says people?
Speaker 6 (07:54):
I did.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
Yeah, that's what that's because people hate you. Well, I
love people. I love every one of you. A great day,
No you don't, and a wonderful weekend. Let me tell
you your frauds. I'm wishing you peace, love, and happiness,
and I hope all your dreams come true. Mine are
the general audience, everyone except yours, okay, because I know
you all right, so I'm completely biased. I'm then, following
(08:15):
one and a half minutes of this conversation, I want
the Rockets win every game. I want to go to
the playoffs. I want to experience what I experience as
a p announcer in the nineties when they won championships
and when I first joined the team as a broadcaster,
you know, nine years ago. It's been a while. We've
had four straight now, four straight non playoff seasons. What
is you as a Rocket fan then broadcaster? Up? Put
(08:35):
the fan in front of the broadcast? First fan first?
Which what's just your original opening thought about tonight in
the entire season. I'm excited for Rockets, as excited for
a Rocket season, and as I've been for a long time.
The win totals forty three and a half. I got
them going over. I think they're playing caliber team. I
would pick them a little higher if the Western Conference
(08:55):
weren't so tough. I am expecting Alprinchingoon and Jalen Green
to make those next leaps, along with playing up to
their contracts and then you've got the veteran guys. I
love coach Udoka. I'm feeling good about Rockets ball right now.
I think the I think the cap has managed properly,
the draft has been properly addressed. They went, we needed
shooting in the off season. Reachip are supposed to supply that. Yes,
(09:18):
you have two guys that you believe are part of
your big core seven that needed a compensation hit because
their contracts took care of them. Mm hmm. You got
Tai's coming back for that utility role. Whatever he is.
I mean, Thompson hopefully is going to be significantly better
than he was a year ago. Although he did everything
you possibly go to ask for from a rookie, well
except shooting, fast, decisive, good defense, plays, multiple position running. Yeah,
(09:43):
he does everything. So if we get his shooting percentage
up a little bit, he becomes even a more complete player.
We'll wait on that. I mean, I mean, no, hurry,
nobody's perfect. No, I mean you have a lot of
deficiencies in this show. Absolutely. I mean, you made a
little bit about football back and on baseball, but I
go to you for ice hockey. I can't get anything.
There's no jump shot. Unfortunately, that's kind of the crux
(10:03):
of the game is putting the ball in the maskt
Hey you can do everything else. He's getting there. Seven
one three two one two five seven ninety seven one
three two one two five seven ninety What is your
energy level for the Rockets?
Speaker 5 (10:15):
Now?
Speaker 2 (10:16):
You could say, uh, I don't care. You could say
be wake me up when Christmas starts. See, I want
to see what the first ten games are all about,
because ross and if you look at the schedule, but
the schedule is not a murderer's row. The first ten
games of the season you chance to get as I
like to say, fat and happier, get the confidence up,
build some momentum. All right, Texans did hire a so
(10:37):
pick up a linebacker yesterday that hasn't played yet this year.
But I'm sure he's amazing. He was let go by
one team, then let go by another, and then sat
around on the market for a week plus. But I'm
sure he's great. And pro football focus game, miss Graze.
We don't need till well, we do need to go
through those doing it. I mean I think for confer context,
we certainly do. We cand all right, rafel Stone Bottom
(11:00):
of the hour here on seven ninety with a word
right now for Affordable Tree Service. Martin spoon More called
me to today, says, Matt, my phones aren't ringing. Would
you please tell the people that I can't always get
to them in the spring, but I can get you
to you in the fall. So if you had been
worried about your trees or thinking about adding some trees
to your front or backyard, you need to call Affordable
(11:21):
Tree Service and ask for Martin spoon More seven one three, six,
nine nine two sixty sixty three. Martin and his team
have been working in the Houston area since nineteen ninety nine.
Deep root feeding time. Absolutely, do you know how to
do it? Of course, you don't pruning your trees? You
know how to do that? Nope. Well, if those are
things that you think your trees need in order for
them to be looking their very best seven one three,
(11:43):
six nine nine two sixty sixty three, get Martin and
his team out there to look at those trees to
make sure they look great for what it's coming up
for the winter and be ready for springtime. Seven one three,
six nine nine two six sixty three. Seven one three, six,
nine nine two sixty sixty three Affordable Tree Service.
Speaker 11 (12:02):
More.
Speaker 1 (12:03):
Matt Thomas now on Sports Talk seven ninety nothing.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
Can stop me. I'm all the way up twelve twenty.
It is the bat top of the show. Gordy's already
come in here and demonish me for not bringing up
Joe Burrow while while wearing his Tarry Easton Jersey. Seriously,
I'm surprised we don't call our station KLSU. It's a stunner.
(12:29):
I was trying to find the Georgia Texas pregame on Saturday,
and I just hear, oh, well, there we go. Hell,
there's no surmire with another throw. I'm like, what we got?
Hell's U football over over Georgia and Texas on seven ninety.
You know, but it was on seven forty the blowtorch
seveny blow toorch. Yeah. By the way, Rockets on Saturday
will be on the blowtorch. Oh really, I feel like
(12:49):
I have step by my game when I go in
the fifty thousand way. You should. They can hear you
in Mexico City, Matten. You never know, yes, all right?
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five to seven. A quick,
easy question for you guys about the show today. What's
your energy towards this year's team? Okay, I would think
predominantly it's going to be wake me up when they're
fifteen games, about five hundred or in the Texans, you
(13:12):
see s a lot of people wake me up on Christmas. Yep.
Donald by Hobby Airport at twelve twenty one, Thanks for
holding good afternoon.
Speaker 12 (13:21):
Okay, I will say from the get go, I'm not
I'm not a basketball of ficcionado, but I'm hopeful for
the Rockets this year. But what I want to know
is I know how Stan Northfleet feels. He's real high
on the Rockets this year. But you're a guy who's
going to see the Rockets every game.
Speaker 9 (13:41):
Every game, I have a close up view.
Speaker 12 (13:44):
Yes, sir, What what do you think the Rockets are
going to do this year? Are they going to be
top six.
Speaker 13 (13:52):
In the West?
Speaker 12 (13:53):
Are they going to have to play in the playoff
and in the playing games? What is your take on it?
Speaker 5 (13:59):
All?
Speaker 6 (13:59):
Right?
Speaker 2 (14:00):
Thank you very much Donald for the phone call. Honestly,
I would love for them to be a top six.
The West is so stacked that I would say if
the Rockets could get to seven to eight. That would
be a significant achievement for this team, clearly because they'd
been the playing game, because they've not done that yet
since the plans even existed. So that's my initial answer
(14:22):
is I would like for this team to win. I
think what I say high end was I think forty eight.
Maybe I think you predicted you gut feeling forty eight. Yeah,
I got a gut So I'm gonna go with a
gut feeling of forty eight wins, yeah, which I think
puts them in the seven eight category in the West.
Forty eight wins would have put them as a seven. Yeah,
lash that feels consistent. I'm sorry. Eight. They would put
(14:43):
them at number eight. And that's the thing. It's almost
like when you say, somebody's getting snubbed for this All
Star Game, Well, okay, who are you taking off? Rockets?
Are they're gonna finish top six? Okay? But who are
they finishing ahead of? And we go through the list, Thunder, Nuggets, Wolves, Mavericks, Sons, Pelicans, Kings, Warriors, Lakers, Clippers,
(15:05):
like those are the teams that all finished ahead of you.
Here's your here's here's what has to happen. Memphis has
to stay bad again this year. Yeah, exactly. Uh sant
Anti I mean, uh, san Antonio's got to stay back too,
and he's not making a leap. You got to make sure,
hopefully that Sacramento takes a step back and the Clippers
take a step back. Kahi Leonard is not ready to go.
They lost Paul George. Jazz were ahead of you in
the standings before they decided to tank, and they tanked
(15:26):
big time too. That Laura Market has got his brand
new contract there, Uh they still have. It was the
the point guard that scores a bunch of it was
a Cleveland Cavalier, Colin Sexton.
Speaker 14 (15:37):
Next.
Speaker 2 (15:37):
Yeah, they got some good players. Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
It's just got the West. The West is just super loaded.
Somebody's got to be And by the way, you would
also hope that maybe Phoenix implodes this year. That'd be
nice and maybe, you know, maybe call and say what's
up with the Phoenix Dons. I'm just saying, what are
you trying to say? I'm saying you made you calling?
You know what you should trade for?
Speaker 9 (15:56):
Who?
Speaker 2 (15:57):
People? People? Okay, yeah, you use that I it Okay.
James in Kline at twelve, twenty five on seven out
of Hi, James, how you guys doing wonderful?
Speaker 9 (16:08):
Listen the game tonight? You can Charlotte, I know you're
not gonna like this. But the gun Shan is he
gonna get more?
Speaker 5 (16:16):
Yes?
Speaker 9 (16:17):
Isa is the gun Sagine?
Speaker 2 (16:19):
It's a Shanngoon. But that's fine you third time? Okay,
I'm sorry, that's okay.
Speaker 9 (16:23):
Shangoon? Is he gonna get more than twenty points or
less than twenty points?
Speaker 6 (16:26):
Well?
Speaker 2 (16:26):
How did I know that? Is that his problem?
Speaker 9 (16:28):
Probably the underdog?
Speaker 2 (16:29):
Oh it's an underdog prop all right, you know what, James,
since you are a great underdogger, I'm gonna go over
twenty points tonight. Out brand Shangoon, Jalen Green more than
twenty one or lessen twenty one?
Speaker 9 (16:42):
I just want you to do three?
Speaker 2 (16:43):
Is the problem with picking those, James, And now I
did this using Code Sports MT a lot last year.
Thank you. The problem with picking Jalen Green is you
just if he's making his threes, it's an easy over.
If he's not making his threes, it's an easy under.
So it's it's the Jalen Green to me, is a
little bit more volatile one when you're looking for Shingoon,
I would look the opposing big man. Honestly, when he's
going against like the Nikola Jokic's and the uh Jonas
(17:05):
Valancunises and and those types of tough centers, then then
it's easier to bet the under for him. But on
Jalen Green he could just get It's a flip a coin.
Is he gonna make his threes tonight?
Speaker 9 (17:17):
And one more? Van Vleet thirteen less or more points?
Speaker 2 (17:21):
Why aren't you going for assess? Why don't you That's
an easier one leet much very much the same way
I like to pick.
Speaker 9 (17:27):
More so I can cheer for the Rockets to score.
Speaker 2 (17:28):
Now all right, I would go with Van Vliet under thirteen.
If I'm gonna see Green and Shangoon get over twenty.
The problem is too and when you're doing these underdogs
or Blay's is what they are effectively? Are you want
to do correlative ones? So if you bet every single
Rocket over, you're probably gonna lose because that means unless
the Rockets are scoring one hundred and eighty points that night,
(17:49):
I'm all for that, which, yeah, we'd have seventy six
high legs for you the next morning. I'd also be
a voice left. But they kind of have to tell
yourself if Shingoon is going off and then and Jalen
Green is going off, and maybe that means Fred van
Vliet isn't or the other way, maybe Van Vliet is
scoring because in Jalen Green's not. Normally, not every single
player is gonna hit their over, right. So that's why
(18:10):
I said, if you're gonna go with those other two
is overs, I'd probably lean towards Van Vliet under. But
again you can mix those up. Maybe van Vliet it's
over thirteen and maybe yeah, but use the promo code
sports empty. All right, let's talk to what rafel Stone.
We'll do that in just a couple of minutes here
on The Matt Thomas Show with Ross seven one three

Base five for five. Hey, it's Craig Vigia. Listen to
the Home of the Astros in your home. Just tell
your smart speaker play Sports Talk seven to ninety on iHeartRadio.
Time is twelve thirty one. It is the Mat tomm
Show with Ross. This is Sports Talk seven, I mean
(20:02):
Rockets and Hornets tonight, Ross, you'll have the launch pad
at six o'clock. Yes, I will. Will it be good,
It will be excellent, So you will not be mailing
it in like you do during astros coverage. I don't
mail in anything that I do, Matthew, and that's fair.
Let's talk to the general manager of the Houston Rockets
on this opening night, rafel Stone, with us here on
the show. Ravel, Good afternoon, thanks for joining us, and congratulations.
(20:25):
Was the two guys and the signing of their contracts
was I don't like you're to do. Listen, you kept saying,
all right, day one, day five, day ten, we gotta
I gotta knock this off my checklist.
Speaker 9 (20:37):
No, but you know, but but it was.
Speaker 5 (20:40):
Obviously a really big thing for us and for them.
But I think, you know, just kind of the way.
Speaker 10 (20:46):
The way the collective bargaining agreement works and their and
their contract structures, it was, you know, it was definitely
the checklist was make sure we're having good conversations with them,
and we're touching base and and we're talking through things.
But but if something didn't happen this offseason.
Speaker 5 (21:04):
We would have just gone into next offseason.
Speaker 10 (21:06):
They for sure both those guys factor under our plans
long term, and so you know that that was kind
of something we took for granted. But but in terms
of like we have to get it done now, no,
it wasn't a have to.
Speaker 5 (21:20):
It's a very very very nice too.
Speaker 2 (21:22):
Though.
Speaker 10 (21:22):
I'm really excited for those guys, and I'm excited for
the team.
Speaker 2 (21:26):
I think they're very excited. I think the lot of
Rocket fans are excited. You've got two different contract links.
I don't know if that was intentional or that's wiggle
room or just with the client and the player and
the agent and yourself wanted. So where where do we
fall on the three years for Jalen and five for Outpe.
Speaker 10 (21:43):
Yeah, no, it's really just that what those guys preferred,
you know what I mean. And so I think you know,
one thing about being in Houston. I don't want to
say we take it for granted, but we're very very
attractive market and.
Speaker 5 (22:01):
And you know, and you know, I've I've now lived
with Jalen and Alpern.
Speaker 10 (22:05):
For three full years, and you know, I know they
love it here, and I know what they want to
spend their careers here, and and I know they love
working with em.
Speaker 5 (22:16):
And their teammates and everything else.
Speaker 10 (22:17):
So we you know, so from our perspective, I guess
we sometimes I think teams operate out of fear that
players might prefer other destinations. That that's that that that
that wasn't and kind of isn't. Can you know for
us really something that that that worries us? And so
(22:38):
so it was more just, hey, we want we want
to find a good agreement that works for for us
and for them, and you know, when you do that,
everybody's got to make some concessions here or there. And
certainly they made some, and certainly we did too. But
in terms of like the length and the structure, I think,
you know, we wanted to provide them with some flexibility
(22:58):
so that they felt more comfortable. And and that was
that was an area we could provide some that was
you know, that we could give on you know, depending
upon what they preferred.
Speaker 5 (23:07):
And so we did.
Speaker 9 (23:09):
You know, again, like we we we.
Speaker 10 (23:12):
Think we're an extraordinarily attractive place, so we're not terribly
worried that they're not always going.
Speaker 2 (23:17):
To want to be here, raphel Stone, Rockets general manager
with us here on the Matt Thomas Show with Ross
on Sports Talk seven eighty. I've always want to ask
you this, if you took if you, if I went
to your office and did an internship with you, how long? Now,
don't make fun of my intellect, but how long would
it take for me to learn the collective Bargaining Agreement
in the NBA? Because me trying to explain it to
(23:37):
my radio audience is just foolish in my part. It
is so convoluted in such a mess. Do you have
to constantly cross check every single, every single nuance to
that thing?
Speaker 5 (23:49):
Yeah? I mean, uh, before you do something, Yes, like
you have to.
Speaker 10 (23:56):
Yeah, you have to go back and well, you have
a bunch of questions and there I'm gonna answer the
last one, right, which is do you have to double
check everything? And the answer is yes, you for sure
do because you need to make you know, it's so
much money and it's so and as people's lives, you
need to make absolute sure that that what you think
(24:16):
you can do you can do. And so you you
pull up the specific section and you reread it and
then you confirm it with lawyers at the NBA, and
and then you go forward. By the way, one of
the things that that that I think never occurs to
people is that even when you confirm it with lawyers
at the n b A, if they're wrong, you're still
(24:39):
in trouble because and and because it's collectively bargained. So
it's lawyers at the NBA and at the Players Association
who write the language, and if they don't agree on
what the language means, they're the lawyers at the NBA
don't get it dictated.
Speaker 5 (24:54):
It then goes in front of, you know, an arbitrator
or something like that.
Speaker 10 (24:56):
We've actually had that in the past where where people
interpret things differently and the team has kind of been stuck,
stuck on the hook long in the past, like I
don't know, fifteen years ago or.
Speaker 5 (25:08):
Something like very very long ago.
Speaker 10 (25:10):
But but it was a great learning lesson for me
that you have to be really, really careful. And so
again it's not enough even just calling the league and asking,
not that they would ever be wrong intentionally, but human.
Speaker 5 (25:21):
Beings make mistakes.
Speaker 10 (25:22):
You have to be careful and you need to make
sure you do the work yourself as well in terms
of the first part of your question about how long
it would take to learn, you know, yeah, it's not quick.
Speaker 5 (25:33):
But if you you know, if it's an enormous part.
Speaker 10 (25:36):
Of your job, and if you've got a little bit
of background in contracts, you know, I think it's something
that in a couple of years you can become really
fluent in. I'm lucky in that one of the guys
I work with understands even better than I do, and
I'm I'm I'm pretty good at it. So between the
(25:56):
two of us, we yeah, we're very comfortable. So we
we have kind of a depth and breadth of knowledge
that that I would stack up against any other teams.
A lot of teams, you know, struggle more than maybe
we do with with that aspect of it.
Speaker 2 (26:11):
Rockets GM Rafelstone with us here on Sports Talk seven
ninety and specifically on Jalen Green. As we know we've
seen the ceiling and what he can provide on the floor.
This this contract of course, a vote of confidence in
his abilities. What have you seen from him that is
allowed you to give that vote of confidence and what
he can grow into and be consistent as far as
an all star caliber player, Well, I.
Speaker 10 (26:35):
Mean the first thing we've seen is kind of since
the All Star break last year, we've just seen much.
We've seen pretty consistent play. He's been you know, you're
not He's a scorer and shots don't always go in.
So it's not when you talk about consistency with a score,
it's not it's not necessarily does the guy make you know,
three out of seven threes every single game, because that
(26:58):
doesn't happen.
Speaker 5 (26:58):
One game, he'll make five, game, he'll make one, whatever.
Speaker 10 (27:03):
But but what you do see is that is that
a player is getting the specific spots where and knowing
and reading the defense well each and every time and
contributing in other ways, Like their defenses is improving their
their recognition on when to kick and when to go.
Speaker 5 (27:19):
Is improving all of those things.
Speaker 10 (27:21):
And so we we've definitely seen a much greater level
of consistency with Jalen. That that started, like I said,
kind of midway through last season, and and we've seen
it in the preseason. We've seen it in our training
camp practices, and so we're just really, you know, really
really excited about his future because of because we're seeing
(27:42):
greater consistency and and because of his IMPROVEMN arc.
Speaker 5 (27:44):
He's you know, he's he's.
Speaker 10 (27:46):
Definitely somebody who came in with really really unique and
special talents but had to learn a lot of the game,
and and it's gotten every year, he's gotten a little
bit better.
Speaker 5 (27:56):
And and in in someone that that young and that talented,
that's you know that, that's what you're at. That's the
big ask is please get better every year, work really
hard at it. And he's definitely done that.
Speaker 2 (28:10):
And with he and Shin Gun were talking about that
and improving and getting better. How much of that do
you use the on court data, and obviously it's a mix,
But as far as things on the personal level, putting
in the work and being coachable and all that type
of stuff, how much do you lean on coach you
Doka for those things and other parts of your staff?
Speaker 5 (28:30):
Well, I mean, we we're very much a collective.
Speaker 10 (28:32):
We have the smallest staff in basketball, and it's very
intentional because it allows it allows us all.
Speaker 5 (28:41):
To lean on one another and have real input.
Speaker 10 (28:43):
If you get to there's some staffs there are sixty
seventy people and there's nothing wrong with that.
Speaker 5 (28:48):
But but at that point, not everybody can weigh in,
and not everybody.
Speaker 10 (28:52):
Can you just can't coordinate that amount of people. And
so so it's for us, it's very much we're all
and it's a collective and everybody's listening to everybody. And
and obviously, uh emails you know has a has an
enormous voice. Uh, But it's also like so that's our process.
(29:14):
But with both Jaalen and Alburn, like it's obvious, you know,
like and I've been around them, and in that respect,
I've got an enormous advantage over email the rest of
our coaches because because I've been around them so much longer,
and and for both of them kind of you can
you can in real time watch them grow up and
(29:34):
and it's just exciting and it's fun, right and they
came to us as teenagers and and watching them become
you know, young adults is awesome on a on a
very personal level, having nothing to do with basketball, and
and then on the court, you know, I'm I'm at
every workout, I'm at every practice, and you can tell
(29:57):
so if you know, not everybody has a great day
every day, but either people work hard or they don't,
and both go both those guys definitely do.
Speaker 2 (30:05):
Lastly, Rafell, I was so excited about the development of
a men Thompson last year. I mean, you may put
him in so many different positions, from the point guard
to the power forward, defensively, all the intangibles you knew
about when you drafted him. I'm excited about his year
two development. And then I think there is so much
preseason hype about Reed Shepherd. Give us a thought or
two about what you've seen just from Reid in particular,
(30:28):
from the time you drafted him, throughout training camp, the preseason,
and then obviously some expectations about a men for the season.
Speaker 5 (30:36):
I will let me let me invert them. Let me
start with the men. We're yeah, we're we're really excited
about him.
Speaker 10 (30:42):
Then he he actually had a really hard year last
year because if you remember, he didn't even make it
to his first Summer League game. He sprained his ankle,
missed the rest of Summer league, came to camp, had
a really good camp, and then immediately sprained his other
ankle and was out for twenty games and then got
sick and like, I still don't know what was wrong
(31:04):
with him, but he was coughing for two and a
half months last year and lost about fifteen pounds and
just had a really really hard year and wasn't feeling
good or feeling like himself until I'd say maybe January,
maybe halfway through January, and then we started to kind
of see him pick up a little bit and then
(31:25):
kind of like Jalen post All Star Break, he really
put it together and we're we're really excited about him.
He's you know, he's just a really good basketball player.
And he's and he's just blessed with athletic gifts that
no one has.
Speaker 5 (31:39):
He's so big and strong and.
Speaker 10 (31:40):
Fast and jumped so high, and because he's a really
good player, he's able to use that those advantages on
both sides of the ball and rebounding, and he's just
he's really been good for us this summer and in preseason,
and so you know, I think he's going to be
a huge part of what we do, uh every game.
Speaker 5 (32:01):
And and the quicker he's able to translate that play, which.
Speaker 10 (32:05):
Is some of it is like confidence, and some of
it is like his teammates, and some of it is
just him. But the quicker, he's able to play like
the player we've seen the better will be and and
we're excited about that. Whether that whether that translates immediately
at one hundred percent on day one, or it takes
twenty games or whatever, We're we're really excited about his future.
(32:26):
I'm equally excited about Reid's future. But he's a rookie
and so you know, I think I think he's gonna
play right away, and and I'm.
Speaker 5 (32:36):
Excited about that because he had to earn that that.
Speaker 10 (32:38):
You know, it was not even though we were drafted
him so high, Like nobody told coach Udoka that that
that he had to play and you know, uh, it's
you bring in talent and I hand it over and
then you know, he made his job is to win
games and so so but I do think he's card.
He's earned uh, you know, a spot in the rotation
(32:59):
to start the year, which is really exciting. The game
of basketball comes very easy to him. Uh he's somebody
who kind of makes the right read over and like
no pun intended over and over and over again. And
and then defensively, he's a he's a playmaker. And we
have a couple of those guys. Fred is one, Dylan
is one, uh, Tari is one, and a Men is one.
Speaker 5 (33:23):
So we actually have a bunch. But he's a playmaker.
It's not.
Speaker 10 (33:26):
He's not a static guy on defense. He's he's reading
what the opposition is trying to do. He's he's trying
to take the ball away, he's trying to touch it,
he's trying to make plays. And and you know that's
translated a bit. The flip side is, uh, he's never
played a regular season NBA game, and everybody's really big
and really strong and really good. And the things that
(33:47):
you get away with at lower levels, including summer league
and and even against bench units, you you just cannot
do against against.
Speaker 5 (33:55):
Some of the better players.
Speaker 10 (33:56):
So there's just this natural adjustment period that every player
in the NBA goes through, and he's going to go
through and some guys get through it a little quicker,
some guys.
Speaker 5 (34:05):
A little slower.
Speaker 11 (34:07):
You know.
Speaker 10 (34:08):
We'll see how that goes. But but we're we're very,
very excited about him at his future and uh, and yeah,
we do think he can be really dynamic.
Speaker 2 (34:18):
Awesome stuff. Rapel, Thank you very much for the time,
best of luck, not only tonight but the entire season,
and we will see you at the TC later this evening.
Appreciate the visit, really, you do awesome.
Speaker 5 (34:27):
Thanks guys.
Speaker 2 (34:27):
All right, we'll see. That's Rafel Stone, general manager of
the Houston Rockets, whether us here on Sports Talk seven
ninety seven one three two one two five seven on
if you want to come in anything that Rafel had
to say. I'm ready to run through a brick wong.
It's just rock go. That was awesome. I'm ready to
I'm ready to help out Turbo and jump off the trampoline.
(34:47):
I feel like you might rip an achilles or something,
so don't do that rip. I think I would shred it. Yeah,
call me cam Akers Thomas seven one three two one
seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two two five seven nine zero. I want
to tell you about Big City Wings. They've got eight
dollars burgers tonight. Now we always talk about their wings
and how good they are and their chicken tenders and
(35:09):
they're boneless wings. But tonight it's a burger night. Eight
dollars with a side toppings to shore. You can put onions,
you could put hollow penos on it, you could put
chili on it. They've got a variety of different options.
Eight dollars with a side at any of the thirteen
Big City Wing locations. Finally one near you. You go
to Big Citywings dot com. Plus it's a whiskey Wednesday,
(35:31):

All that with an eight dollars burger today at Big
City Wings and Big Citywings dot com. Don't leave Matt
Thomas in your car, take him with you.
Speaker 1 (35:49):
Download the free iHeartRadio WAP for your phone at Sports
seven ninety dot com. Just remember you'll have to feed him.
Speaker 2 (36:01):
Rest in peace to one of the great all time
left handers in Major League history, a guy that I
didn't like because he was a Dodger when I was
a young Astro fan, but respected the hell out him,
Fernando Valanzuela passing me at the age of sixty three yesterday.
May he rest. What happened? I don't I don't know.
I'm gonna say it's been an illness for a while.
(36:22):
I don't know, mountain mountain climbing, I don't know. I
mean no, I don't think he got a tack by
a bear. No, or you know no, okay, no, if
you want to look it up, I'll look it up.
I don't because you're morbid, like you brought it up.
But I didn't think I need to give you a
cause of death. I mean, I'm looking at you, and
they brought it up on the show. I figured you'd
know why. I probably should have undisclosed illness. Okay, o,
(36:49):
liver cancer. There you go. Yeah, not good, so rip
to him. Cancer sucks. Can't chick now. When I was
a kid, really quick and before we get the phones,
Fernando would always look up above his bill. He had
a bill of his cabin. Uh huh, and he would
look up and he would have like an arrow or
something to make sure his eyes were placed properly.
Speaker 10 (37:06):
Huh.
Speaker 2 (37:07):
When I was a kid, I did the exact same thing.
I you completely emulated Fernando Balezuela. I'm cutting his diet.
What was his diet? He did a little pug he
was he was poorly, but damn good famous pitch that
would be the screwball. The screwball nicely for you. I'm
(37:28):
so proud of you.
Speaker 12 (37:30):
I thought, I thought.
Speaker 2 (37:31):
I tried to think of the worst answer. It was
the Screwball. Okay, cool, So what we should call this
show the Screwballs? I thought that's what it was called.
Is Gordy gonna wear this Terry Eastern jersey of the
game the night is he doing? I'm trying to watch
some Champions League soccer. He's like, he's changing the table.
You want here? He wants you to focus. A good
(37:54):
program director comes and make sure the guys are fast. Okay,
let's go to Can clearly on seven out of your
twelve fifty five. Hi, Can, good afternoon.
Speaker 15 (38:04):
Hey, yeah, you know I was thinking, well, I was
waiting to get on the line with you how much
the Rockets in the last few years were kind of
like the ascos in you know, like eleven, twelve, thirteen,
and but to see a team you know that, you know, finally,
you know, they start, they finally started to get the
(38:26):
pieces together, and now they're maturing. It's just to me,
it's really exciting.
Speaker 11 (38:30):
And I try to get my friends, you know, hey,
you know the Rockets, you know, why don't you watch
them now while you watch them grow? But you know,
I've only got one friend that's as pomped as I
am about the Rockets. This year, going to go over
his house with my ninety four championship t shirt and
then just watch these guys, uh.
Speaker 2 (38:51):
And just have a blast awesome. Yeah, you know what,
you can always learn to old school Jersey and me
just fine. Yeah, catch them and Mustard classic. Yeah, I
would like for them to go ultimately to that. I
don't know if it's ever going to because a lot
of teams are going retro, going back to their old logos. Yeah,
it happened. The Detroit Pistons went back, Yeah, they did.
(39:12):
In the NBA, who went back besides the Pistons, Bulls
never really straight. I mean the Hawks win really wacko
for a while. They're more traditional. The more of the
red and yellow. Orlando I think has gone a little
more traditional when they were when they got they went
a little silent wonky for a while too. But yeah, no,
(39:36):
not that not the current's not bad. Knows that eighty
percent of my shirts had the rocket Logoty six Ers
went back classic they did. Yeah, Knicks have always stayed
the same. Lakers are always trying to you know, they're
aways trying to find alternative uniforms, but they're typically they're
That's the thing generally, the heritage brands don't change their
uniforms every five years, so let's go. It's crazy you
be a heritage brand. The Yankees have two uniforms, the
(39:57):
gray New York and the home whites of the Pincher.
That's it. Dodgers were I think they have three uniforms,
the blue, the grays that have the word Los Angeles
or Dodgers on them. Those really nice, and then the
white they're great. The Dodger uniformists, pound for pound, the
best uniform in baseball. Notice respect to our astros, but
Dodgers gear is the best. Speaking of teams that went
back to classics, astros kind of kind of the people
(40:19):
that wear the Dodger gear are sons of bitches, But
that's not the uniform itself, all right. Speak of the Lakers,
Lebron James and Bronnie James. Bron were the first father
son duo ever to play in the NBA in the
same history. And we will discuss because Ross has a
(40:41):
very strong take on it. Strong take it, strong, strong take,
have a take, do not suck, and I it prompted
me to ask a poll question on Sports Empty about
whether it was special or not I'll give you the
details on that. Plus we have shut your bumb ass
up in one half hour. This is Sports Talk seven
ninety lunchtimers. This is the Matt Thomas Show one O
(41:05):
three on Sports Talk seven ninety Shut you obomaxuff coming
up in a one half hour. Deanre Hopkins is now
a member of the Kansas City Chiefs, being traded away
from the Titan What our same reaction?
Speaker 9 (41:17):
What?
Speaker 8 (41:18):
No?
Speaker 2 (41:18):
What doesn't care? The same? Cash the same He's at
the end of his career. Yeah, I mean he went
from borderline on his way to the Hall of Fame
to just being just another receiver. He had a couple
of good seasons with the Cardinals, so I said, borderline,
Hall of Fame until this. I wonder where he is
in the old time receiving list. I wanna guess he's
closing it. He's probably got to be top thirty at
(41:40):
this point, right, Yeah, gotta be there, Yeah for sure.
Yards Texans News Devin White the new Texans linebacker. He's
with the team today in practicing. He was just signed.
Most recently by the team. Kamari Lassider is practicing, which
he had some room in the secondary. Oh thank god
Henry Toatoa is practicing today. All right, let's go. Uh,
(42:01):
let's see what else? How sorry, how's our dog? Ausi's
out shay here is not practicing today. Jimmy Ward is
not practicing today. Robert Woods is not practicing today. Robert
Wood is fine, but yeah, the other guys would be
nice to have back. It's fine. Twenty third all time
in receiving yards DeAndre Hopkins behind, just behind Art Monk
(42:22):
and just ahead of Brandon Marshall. What an interesting cross
generational selection that of those three guys are m all
right seven one three two one two five seven ninety
seven one three two one two five seven nine zero.
So last night the Minnesota Lakers game was on and
(42:42):
there was a moment in time where uh, Lebron and
Bronni were miked up and it was time to put
the two of the guys on the floor at the
same time, and Lebron asked if Bronnie was writing, and
of course he said yes, because Lebron is the defective
giving some advice.
Speaker 9 (42:57):
Yeah, so.
Speaker 2 (43:02):
He came on the floor. Crowd went crazy, as they
would because it's Lakers and it's brading it it's a
special moment. It's a spectacle. It's something that's never happened before. Yes,
So you know me, I don't like defense that on
any of these things. So I knew that when I
was going to come in today and discuss this with you,
I had to have an opinion of okay, good, all right.
(43:25):
I'm not a nepotism fan under any circumstance, but to
say it doesn't happen in all walks of life would
be frankly ridiculous. It happens in the workplace. It happens. Well,
probably nepotism is in the workplace now. Some of the
people that have been taking advantage of nepotism works because
(43:46):
they work hard, they put in the hours, and they're talented.
We see a lot of nepotism, frankly in sports broadcasting.
That's true. Jack Buck's son, Joe joe'se Ah Hall of
Fame broadcaster too. I mean it worked out well. Yes,
Noah Eagle is the new Big ten announcer. He's doing
(44:06):
a bunch of other national events. He'd worked tho Summer
Olympics for NBC. He's going to be on their NBA coverage.
He's very very young. Kenny Albert, but very talented. Kenny
Albert is the son of Marv Albert. Kenny Albert just
finished his five hundredth Fox NFL game a couple weeks. Wow,
he's been like on the the on the f team
for like a few years though, right, it's yeah, he's
(44:28):
dropped a little bit, but he's still very I mean
he's the lead he's the lead voice of the NHL
on TNT, so obviously he's done very well for himself.
Who else would be in the nepotism in broadcasting. I'm
thinking about fred Nance Jim's a strange show. No, okay,
no point being is this we sit. It's everywhere, It's everywhere.
(44:48):
It happens in all walks of life. So there is
the owner of the Texans. There's your great example right there.
Like my dentist, his son works for him, but his
son had to go to dental school and become a dentist,
so he had to go work somewhere. He didn't just
say I'm in the family business. Yeah, he's like, I'm
going there to new section and don't care. Yeah, go ahead,
(45:12):
there you go. Connor knocked that out. So I saw
your tweets last night yes, and you had a little
blowback from people. Yes, and I remember why I hate
talking about having opinions on Twitter. So here's the bit.
And I've been thinking about this all morning. I can
separate lebron James the basketball player from Lebron James the tweeter. Yes,
(45:38):
because the tweeter annoys the hell out of me. He's
but I don't follow this based on a lot of stuff.
But he's You can mute him though, still and then
then he won't show up in the four Utah, that's
actually okay, Well, thank you for that. I'll make do
that button is your friend. He is so off on
so many non basketball things it's it frankly angers me.
(45:59):
But oh so you're because he called c J strouded dog.
But in my mind, he is the second greatest player
in the history of the NBA, and I don't think
anybody can potentially argue that. I think it's you could
argue Jordan James flip flop and whatever the case may be.
But I think Lebron bare Minimum is the second greatest
player of all time. With that said, ROSSI b Ronnie
(46:22):
James does not deserve to be in an NBA basketball court.
Ronnie James was the seventh best player on the USC
basketball team. Ronnie James was drafted only by the Los
Angeles Lakers because they wanted to make it a show.
Ronnie James was never considered a first round talent and
was considered a borderline second round talent that so many
(46:46):
other teams passed on. Now, can Bronnie James be good?
Can Bernie James take advantage of the opportunities that are
being presented to him? Of course he can, But I'm
not going to celebrate the two guys on the floor
doing that. When Barnie James had absolutely no business playing
in an NBA game at his age, with his lack
(47:07):
of overall success, he didn't deserve it. He's simply there
because his last name is James. If Bronnie's last name
was Jones, not James, he'd be lucky to be in
a G league basketball team. So in this particular case,
while again neapotism is a part of life and sometimes
guys embrace it, in this particular case, I cannot support it. Okay,
(47:29):
you cannot support it, But I think at the end
of the day, it doesn't necessarily matter. When when King
Griffey Senior was signed by the Mariners. He had been
cut by the Braves and the Rets like his major
league career was he was not a good player. And
then he was signed by the Mariners and they played
with his son, and that was cool. Tim Rain Junior
was called up before he was ready to play with
(47:49):
Tim Rain sor and I thought it was a cool
I mean, not being there at the time, sure that
was a cool story. Then that to me is what
this is. Where at the end of the day, when
it comes down to it and we strip away the
names and all that, what happened on that floor. A
fifty fifth overall pick played two and a half minutes
of a basketball game. That's it. So I'm seeing, But
(48:11):
see your your your philosophy is that was a nice
little anecdotal thing. What a lot of people are doing
is going this is one for the ages, and I
do not agree. It's not one. It's not one for
the ages. It's not it's history. I think it's cool.
I think it's more of a testament to Lebron and
his longevity in his career than it is to Brownny James,
a human being just played NBA basketball, having a son
(48:33):
old enough to play NBA basketball. That's insane that he's
at not only is he thirty nine years old, almost forty,
and that he is still playing at the level that
he is to where he can and he's got such
a stranglehold on the league to where Rich Paul is
his agent and they can strong arm people. I think
to me, it's more of a cool, special, historic spectacle
(48:57):
rather than this is not gonna change my life. This
is not gonna be you know, it's just Bronnie James
played for a couple of minutes. Lebron Like when he
checked into that game, I was like, oh my freaking god,
Lebron James is playing with his son. This is insane.
Who didn't deserve to be there? And that's why I
can't get past No, he didn't deserve to be He
(49:17):
was in there for two minutes. He's a second round pick.
So what It's not like he played twenty five minutes
and stunk up the joint.
Speaker 5 (49:23):
No, but it was.
Speaker 2 (49:24):
It was meant not because Bronni James did not step
on the floor because he deserved it. He stepped on
the floor exclusively because his dad is on the court. Yeah,
but eventually maybe he will be an NBA viable player
with me very well, he wasn't there and he played
for two minutes and he's a second round pick. Yeah,
and if the Lakers want to do that with their money,
who cares. Yeah, the Astros drafted J. C. Correa for
(49:47):
Carlos Korea. Did we get all up at arms when
that happened?
Speaker 14 (49:51):
No?
Speaker 2 (49:51):
Well, I know you got up in arms when Ben
Verlander got drafted by the Tigers because he's a gravy trainer.
But I mean, how often does that happen? Family? By
the way, I forgot about them. Harry was the son's
chip and skipping. Okay, Yeah, so that means again, nepotism
happens in every walk of life. I just say in
that moment, I was just I don't even know. I
(50:14):
guess I was speechless. It was because right now I
was like, man, this is crazy. Lebron James, who I've
watched his entire career, who uh to me? Because we're
I'm like two weeks older than him. He's only got
four more championships of me. By the way, man, we're
still pretty close. How many more points he is it's
about forty thousand, But that's the thing to me is
(50:35):
because just I guess because of we're so close in age.
To me, he's been one of those athletes that I
feel like I've gone through whatever I've gone through in
my life around the same time. And so to see
him have a son check into the NBA and play
while he is still who he is as an all
star caliber player in the NBA, I was. I thought
(50:55):
it was incredible. Yeah, okay, again, we're allowed to have
different opinions on this. There's yeah, that's fine. I just
don't have I have a problem with people getting like
upset about it, like this is terrible, this is a travesty.
They should have never done this. A fifty a second
round pick got three minutes in an NBA game.
Speaker 5 (51:12):
Move on.
Speaker 2 (51:13):
If you're that upset, if you're that triggered about it,
I would not say it was triggered. Okay, But that's
why I made it nice. And I just said special
or not special, And I just if he would have
really earned it, it would have been super special. But
he didn't really earn it.
Speaker 9 (51:26):
Not that good.
Speaker 2 (51:26):
Well, maybe you can play with the younger son. It's
supposed to be better. If that's the case, that would
be special because then then Lebron be like, what forty
five at that point? Yeah? Well, now how old is
Bryce Maximus Bryce Maximus James. Yeah, it's a terrible name.
I think you've got some kind of crush on the
James family, do I you know those kids' names? They
(51:49):
were saying them last night. Bryce and the daughter is
it was her birthday yesterday? SERI, Yeah, she was there.
That was cool. I mean, if the James family enjoys it,
For me, it just was like, you're very lucky that
your last name is James. Bryce is seventeen. Oh, it's
Gonne three more years. I don't know if that's gonna work. Yeah,
if he's better, that's gonna certainly make a difference. Don't
you think. I think you're gonna have to you'nna have
(52:11):
to literally pull Lebron off the court. I'd have to go.
Looking back, we're all the Elu brothers really good when
they played together. Uh, probably not Felipe Maddie Harpo Gonzo.
I don't think there was a Gonzo. Wasn't Billy Rickin
really crappy when he played with h with cal Cal
and Cal Senior and Calne you know. I mean, I
(52:31):
don't know if anybody thought that was particularly cool, because
first of all, there's been a lot of brothers that
play with each other. Well, I think it's I thought
it was cool. When I can't, I can't give you
a frame of reference about Ken Griphy Junior and Senior.
I know they obviously played together. Preston Tucker back on
the Astro, Kyle Tucker on a on a good track
with them, all right, it's going sideways. Quick shut you.
Obama as up coming up at about to sixteen minutes
(52:53):
here on the Matt Thomas Show with Ross seven one
three two one two five seven ninety seven one three
two one two five seven eight. Just to check, let's see,
I can like how this guy said Milo's favorite family.
That would be just the opposite I have. I get
my sample size on my Twitter account. It's small, but
I have. How many votes do I have? In two
hundred and forty one votes, sixty eight percent said not special,
(53:15):
thirty two percent said special. I think in ten years
from now will be like man, I remember that time
Lebron played with his son. That was crazy. I think
we'll be completely forgotten about it. I don't think because
I think the other something can be better and that
will be that would be the storyline. Well, I don't know.
Can we amend this till Bryce plays?
Speaker 8 (53:31):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (53:31):
Okay, I mean forty three year old's not crazy for
Lebron is superhuman. Yeah, that would have to be some
kind of record, right, how old was what's his name? Willis?
How old did kaream play till forty one? Forty two?
I mean it's not that much too. Ron keeps Also
like seven, Lebron's gonna only play you can just play
(53:53):
him in the paint. You know, eventually he'll start reducing
number of games he plays. I he won't be playing
back to that one too. Yeah, well he's going he's crazy. Yeah,
seven one three two one two five seven ninety. I
want to say about Game Day Men's Health. These are
the wonderful people that have said, hey, Matt, we know
your audience could use a little boost when it comes
to their disosterone levels if they're low. Game Daymen'shealth dot
(54:15):
com slash Houston is where you should go to find
out the clinic near you. You will get with a
license provider. They will give you a testosterone check absolutely free,
and they'll make sure that everything is on the up
and up. And if you don't have the T levels
that are satisfactory to you or to them, they'll put
you on a program that's going to help you. Get
you more energy, We'll get your libido up, We'll get
you in the being able to work out like you
(54:37):
used to before, any of those things. If your mood
swings are affecting your life, perhaps it could be testosterone.
Game Daymen'shealth dot Com slash Houston. Game Day Men's Health
dot com slash Houston.
Speaker 1 (54:51):
Matt Thomas returns on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (55:00):
One, The Matt Thomas Show with Ross our buddy Sam
on Twitter, who retires first? Bronni or Lebron? Hmm, it's
pretty funny. I'm gonna have to say it's a it's
actually it's a fifty it is you can say, I
can say I don't think he would retire? What do
he go overseas or something?
Speaker 9 (55:21):
As well?
Speaker 2 (55:22):
I think remember that was who's gonna be out of
the league first? Yeah, who's going to be out of
the NBA first? That's a that's a close one. Well,
Lebron Bronny was out of the NBA after two minutes. Yeah,
we'll see, we'll we'll see how that happens. Again. There
is nothing in his pedigree except the dad that suggests
that he deserved to be on an NBA roster. Wasn't
(55:44):
very good at USC, probably should have stayed in college
at least one or two more years. People did have
him as before his first year. I think at us
your first year in college. And we also have to remember,
by the way, this is somebody who went through a
cardiac arrest. He nearly died. Yeah, and so that to
me makes it special too, Like Bronnie James nearly died
on the on the court of a practice court at
(56:05):
USC or whatever it was, and was resuscitated and had
that issue and came back from that, and he's on
an NBA court with his dad, like before they check in.
His dad's like, just play hard, don't make don't worry
about making mistakes, but play hard, play fast. You see
the intensity out there. I thought it was cool, all right,
seven one, three, two, five, seven ninety. Let's go to
(56:27):
Vince in Midtown on the Matt Thomas Show. Ross Vince,
good afternoon, thanks for waiting.
Speaker 16 (56:32):
Hey, thank you for taking my call.
Speaker 8 (56:35):
Russ's died tried about that whole sit This whole situation
kind of made me ill. Just for starters, Uh, I
totally agree with Matt. Kid doesn't deserve to be there.
I actually think his father did him a disservice by
not letting him stay in college work his way up
the right way. And this is just basically reality TV.
(56:59):
It's it's the timeless, the times that we live in,
and it's it's all I got to say about it.
Speaker 2 (57:06):
Okay, thanks Vince. My only point is that if lebron
was really interested in his son's success, the right advice
would have been for him to stay in college and
that you don't need. First of all, they don't need money,
that's not an issue. If he's trying to set his
own trailblazing way whatever, that is the best way you
(57:28):
can do it is to not be next to dad.
To not be able to get on an NBA team
because dad got you on there couldn't Brownie have not
declared for the draft, but I'm sure he's he doesn't
Bronny have some of his own autonomy. You would think so.
But but if but if bron lebron if dad goes
in and says look, son, I want you to be
in the NBA, but you're you're not doing yourself any
(57:50):
favors by going early. Stay in college one or two
more years. I think probably my guess is Barney would
have taken its advice. Well, what if Brownie said I
want to go to the NBA and his dad's like,
all right, let's make it happen. We don't know. We're
not privy to those conversations. I I think you'd be
foolish to think that any team, if they through the
(58:11):
grape vine would have found out that that Bronny was
going to be drafted, it would have helped get Lebron
to stay with that team. That it was a it
was a calculated plan by the Lakers to say, we'll
take the we'll take the second round, head on this
so so Lebron can play with his son, so we
can make some headlines and do this kind of thing.
It's just not authentic if that's my That's the thing though, too,
(58:31):
if let's say he did stay in college for another
year and then developed and developed a shot, which uh,
I mean a lot of the scouts was kind of
reading up on this because I knew we were going
to talk about it, saying that Lebron Bronni James has
really good shooting form, but he doesn't make shots, which
is generally a sign that they're not going to develop
as a shooter. A lot of times, if guys are
(58:53):
making shots or missing shots in their form is poor,
you say, you know what, we can fix that, like
like I'm in Thomson or whoever. But the le Bronni
James was obviously raised right by his father. He has
a great shooting form, his SHOT's not good, so that's
probably not going to develop. And if he did go
back to college and get better, then the Lakers don't
control his destiny. Then he can go to any one
(59:14):
of thirty teams and create his own identity. He could
create his own identity. And I don't know. I'm not
in the James household. Did is lebron James this overbearing
father who said you're gonna do this? Bronni. I'm saying,
you're gonna you're you're gonna declare for the draft, You're
gonna be with Clutch and you're gonna play with me
on the Lakers, And you have no say in this.
(59:36):
Did that happen? We don't know, I know, we don't know.
Speaker 9 (59:39):
We don't.
Speaker 2 (59:39):
I don't think it happened. I think what happened. This
is just one person opinion is Bronni James knows at
the end of the day, he's not an NBA player,
and the only way he gets put an NBA uniform
on is the Lakers say we'll take you because we
want to keep Lebron in Los Angeles.
Speaker 8 (59:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (59:56):
If I was twenty years old and my dad was
in the NBA and they're like, hey, I'm with the Lakers,
we're gonna draft you and we're gonna play together an
NBA court, I would say, sign me up. That sounds cool.
I think that would be awesome. Fortunately, my dad wasn't
an all time great NBA player. Yeah, but he's still
a very good nice question, he's a great, He's great,
he's got decent Taysom Radios got me a job before. Yeah,
(01:00:18):
shout out Pops. I would have loved to have shared
in NBA four with my dad. I don't know if
we have people about it, and it'd be like putting
Cameron and Peyton on on this show as a full
time co host having no training at all. No, I'd
be like putting him on for one segment. He was
in there for two minutes. But no, but he's not
there for two minutes. He has a contract, he's on
the he's taking a roster spot. Yeah, if you made Yeah,
(01:00:43):
bringing Cameron in on his birthday to do a show
with me for an hour, that's a special thing. I
didn't ask. I didn't ask, So you did do that.
Actually I didn't ask. Our bosses signed to a contract.
I know he wasn't paid. And also it's amples and Orange.
We're talking about NBA. Uh players? Did I mean if
Ronnie James played, I'll give you Bronni James played college basketball,
(01:01:04):
but didn't do it very well. Was never he did
not qualified to be in the NBA. No, there's nothing
on his resume that says he should be. He should
occupy us. So they took him with a fifty fifth pick.
They didn't take him if it doesn't matters, So there's
a player matter. If there's a player out there that
deserved an opportunity to go to the NBA, how many
fifty fifth picks are making it in the NIA? I
can give you a list right now. I'm gonna give
you a list. Me all the great fifty fifth picks
(01:01:25):
in the NBA. Right now, I'm gonna look at this
list right now. Who was taking fifty fourth in the
league in this draft? You don't know who's taking fifty sixth.
I don't know. Doesn't mean second round pick picks all
the time, don't make the NBA all the time. Uh,
here's one impact players, Vasa Mischi of the Charlotte Hornets.
Was this fifty second pick? Okay? Well, then he would
have been taken before Bronnie Brownnie was fifty five. No,
(01:01:48):
I don't.
Speaker 17 (01:01:49):
He'll find me somebody after fifty five on the roster. Well,
I gotta look, okay, but I'll find some more. I'm
sure your second round picks all over the place. Point
being is this he didn't deserve it, and so it
wasn't a special moment. If he if he had worked
his ass off and he'd been luckily enough to be
picked by the Lakers because he was absolutely qualified for
the spot, then.
Speaker 2 (01:02:09):
It would have been really awesome. Okay, that's your that's right. Yeah,
but he's got one right mind just having me. I
don't want to understand why people are so upset about this.
I'm different. Was upset he did him so from the
service a fifty overall pick paid played two minutes in
an NBA game. I'm sorry your Felix are I promise
(01:02:30):
is not it's not gonna be just two minutes. It's
gonna be I don't think he's gonna sign a one
game contract. I don't know how long is it gonna
be sitting to the gli what's gonna happen now, Oh,
he'll see on the team. Is he's clearly not a
rotation player? Gonna make him a Bron's It's gonna command
that he stays on the team. Okay, unless Lebron has
a good fight and says, you know what, son, go
(01:02:51):
to the gliague, go learn your game. Maybe he will
be smart if I give him. Yeah, if he's gonna
ride on the end of the bench, it's not gonna
do him any good. Go play for the not they
shouldn't be there to begin with. But that's different. What
if he's not? What if he's never going to be
an NBA caliber player? So Lebron said, you know what,
I want to play with my son. I'm so powerfully
in the NBA. I can get this organization to draft
(01:03:13):
in fifty fifth overall, and I can play a few
minutes with my son and make NBA history. I don't
really have an issue with that, Okay. I just to
me it was I'm Lebron James, and I will command
everything when I can, including drafting a player who doesn't
deserve to be on an NBA uniform team. That's cause
you should draft. To me, Lebron and I can be tight.
(01:03:35):
I e eybody left? Who's better? Bronni James?
Speaker 17 (01:03:38):
Are you?
Speaker 2 (01:03:39):
I'm gonna say me in certain situations, the free throw line,
zone defense, zone defense with Anthony Davis of the back,
maybe you'll be h, Yeah, that's right, that's right. Funnel
to the big man, Fine to the big man. Let's
do this. Let's tells people to shut their bomb masses up.

A Getty getting tamada.
Speaker 2 (01:06:09):
All right, it's our favorite half hour of the week.
We can tell some people to shut their bomb ashes
up shits o bum ass up man, and ain't nobody
got time for that? Meaning anything like how about the
guy at your office that is losing his hearing and
to repeat things five times? I'm not gonna want conversations
with you. Anybody got time for me to repeat the
(01:06:30):
same thing over and over?
Speaker 5 (01:06:31):
To you.
Speaker 2 (01:06:32):
You look at me like that. It's not you, but
the only person I can look at because I look
at counter, he can't see me. That's true, all right,
mind my put that middle finger down. My god, commerce
trying to keep his on the air sounding smooth what
you're doing and wearing himself out. Well he isn't meant.
We've been not asked. I'm not going to ask anymore.
I'm all ahead. But am I doing it? Still want to?
(01:06:55):
I just don't want the man getting in trouble. Well,
we've not identified people's names yet, so we're not doing
anything wrong. All right, run in multiverses. Let's do that.
Here's one. I am getting texts from both political parties.
Oh my god, with the text please? And nobody got time?
When is allwu to be sending me text wanting me
(01:07:17):
to spend money on your campaign? I don't care. Ain't
nobody got time for spam text some political people I
had a question if you spend For example, our good
friend Elon Musk is spending however many millions with Donnie t.
And then I'm sure you know Harris has a bunch
of mega donors who are spending millions and millions with her,
(01:07:38):
one of them is going to lose. Do you feel
like a dumbass after spending millions on a on a
Democratic or Republican candidate and they lose? Don't you feel like, man,
I kind of wasted my cash there. Yeah, because somebody
is going to win, like people who donated Donald Trump
in twenty and people who donated to Clinton in sixteen.
After you lose the election on election night, if you've
(01:07:59):
put millions of your net worth into that, and you're like, yeah,
that was dumb, let's I'm it down to this. I
put money on a particular sports team when we go
to the casinos to win.
Speaker 5 (01:08:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:08:10):
Do I feel dumb after I with the wrong side?
Speaker 6 (01:08:13):
I do?
Speaker 2 (01:08:15):
But at least that was at least I got some
entertainment out of it. You're getting entertainment out of a
presidential election. Well, but the way that we don't operate
that way worse.
Speaker 10 (01:08:22):
We have we have.
Speaker 2 (01:08:23):
At least we had a sweat. At least it came
down to Kymi Fairbear and a field goal. Well, it's
gonna come down to the seven states up in the
air right now? Yeah, whant to make a bet? I
just want to sweat I think. I think America's holding
this election is just sweating, but in a different, much
different way than me sweating the Seahawks and the Broncos.
We have seven states in this country. They're gonna determine
the other forty three. Yeah, apparently they're putting, trying to
(01:08:45):
put something together to get the popular vote to be
the overwriting fact. I don't know. I'm saying that if
you're talking about sweat, this November whatever it is, is
going to be a serious sweat day for both for
all of America, because right now I think both sides.
But I got back to my point. I'm politics. I
don't want my text. Sorry, shut your bumb ass up.
(01:09:07):
Can I swear at them back when they when anybody
directly see that? I think I don't. I feel like
they're automated.
Speaker 5 (01:09:13):
Right.
Speaker 2 (01:09:14):
Have you ever talked to a person on one of
these No? No, And you know what, I'll stick with
that in the same theme, all these election campaign ads,
my god, incessant, one after the other. I can't eat
when I'm on YouTube, when I'm watching anything, Shut your
bumb ass up. Shit, so bum ass up?
Speaker 14 (01:09:32):
Man?
Speaker 2 (01:09:32):
How about take ten percent of that pudicle money? You're
spending and give it to I don't know what children's charity? Fine,
how do we Yeah, we have care cancer. How about
we can reinvest in schools and domestic program How don't
we fix We'll claim parkway where every time I'm out,
we'll claim parking on the airport. I sir, I get
to broken ter Vertebrate because there's a big bump in
(01:09:52):
the middle of the street. Exactly, I'm shuddering like we've
got bad turbulence on Richmond Avenue. Why can't we fix that? Yeah,
let's fix our streets. Stop sending me text anybody got
time for all that? Nobody got connor? What's going on
with you? What's the matter with you?
Speaker 18 (01:10:07):
I'm just not a fan of the days already getting shorter.
I know we don't fall back in day like saving
time until November third, but it's already getting dark at
like six thirty, and anybody got time for that?
Speaker 2 (01:10:17):
Nobody? Is that you get the extra hour of drinking
correct or sleeve fall back? Yeah, we get we get
the hour back, right, I got out like five thirty
night night time. Yeah, it's depressive seasonal effective disorders. I
think depression kicks in it's for.
Speaker 8 (01:10:34):
Dark and darker.
Speaker 2 (01:10:36):
Yeah, absolutely, absolutely twice. Seattle is such a horrible place, well, rains, mixed,
people dropping deuces in the streets. Yeah, they're just upset
they don't have super Sonics basketball. I would be upset
to Seattle. I didn't have any issues like I go
to Sam Scot. I've only seen that happen once. I've
seen it happen in Houston, Texas. It probably happens anywhere.
(01:11:00):
Have you been around Minute May Park. I'll see it
twice vivid huh one time. Yeah, yeah, I'm not even
gonna Yeah, let's move on, Clay. What's the matter with you? Yeah?
Speaker 19 (01:11:12):
Jerry Jones for two stupid things he's done in the
last couple of weeks. One, acting like a child when
the radio broadcaster is just trying to ask questions that
the fans want to hear, you know, and I think
he said in the Firearm and two is what he
said about Derek Kenry. He didn't think he'd be a
good fit for his team, for their team with the
(01:11:32):
style offense. They would shut your bum ass up, Jerry,
You've already doing this team enough, so just shut your
bum ass up.
Speaker 2 (01:11:39):
Shut your bum ass up, man. I think cowboy fan
hate for Jara is at an all time high. That's
a shame. Money spent on CD and DAK couldn't happen
to a nicer money people crippled that franchise. Don't feel
bad for him? Yeah, I don't feel like it's fine.
(01:12:01):
Poor babies I had. I me know, I have family
from Fort Worth of they were visiting this weekend. How
about them Cowboys? That's fun. Oh, that's what you're gonna do. Yeah,
you haven't seen these family members in a long time.
I think once in the last twenty years. And that's
the first thing you're gonna say is how about them?
Speaker 17 (01:12:16):
Cowed?
Speaker 2 (01:12:16):
Absolutely no wonder. I don't want Uncle Phil, No one
of they want to don't want to see you seven
life and stayed away for so long seven one three,
two one two five seven on something's bothering you? Anybody
got time for that? To shut your bum ass up?
Speaker 14 (01:12:29):
Mo on?
Speaker 2 (01:12:30):
Seven hoy was the matter with you?
Speaker 9 (01:12:33):
Git, sir uh.
Speaker 14 (01:12:36):
Skander from agreemad packers, shut your bumb ass up trying
to talk.
Speaker 16 (01:12:40):
To CJ on that last drive when you score first
down on you.
Speaker 5 (01:12:47):
Shit?
Speaker 9 (01:12:47):
So bum ass up?
Speaker 14 (01:12:48):
Man?
Speaker 2 (01:12:49):
Who do you say, was you're Alexander yeah talking. He
was the one talking smack to Stefan Diggs. They were
all smacked talking the whole day. It was Packers versus Texans.
Was I was like, what the heck is this out
of left field? You'll play once every six years you
have this nasty fight. It was like it was like
it was an interstate rivalry in trust, state rivalry in trot. Yeah,
(01:13:11):
like the Cowboys Texans game will not have nearly as
much blank talking like the Packers Texans had. Well, the
fans will bring a kevlar, folks. I wouldn't go wash
your darling. Texas darling have a great time. A lot
of prison shifts wink wink in those parking lots. Remember
they had to when that happened in Houston. They are
all those fights with Cowboys and Texans fan. Yeah, wasn't
(01:13:33):
that a preseason game?
Speaker 5 (01:13:34):
Was that right? Now?
Speaker 2 (01:13:35):
Okay, they had to force the Texans to shop. Yeah, yeah,
they had. You had to have show a parking pass
to show up for something, right, or a ticket. You
had to show a ticket to tailgate or something like that.
That's it. Yeah, you just can't go there just for
you know just to do it. John in Needville on seven, Honey, John,
what's the matter with you?
Speaker 19 (01:13:50):
Man?
Speaker 9 (01:13:50):
It ain't gonna make you happy?
Speaker 7 (01:13:52):
Matt ain't nobody got time for the Divas season and
can't play back and.
Speaker 20 (01:14:00):
Back games, flopping, traveling, double dribbling, over there hand basketball.
Speaker 2 (01:14:07):
See hm, right, that's right. I don't watch ratings and
revenues are up. Yeah, I mean I get it. I
run in that all the time. What am I supposed
to tell you? Boston Celtics draining a record number of
threes last night getting their rings. Jason Tatum is fun.
Joel Embiid, Nikola Jokic, Luka Duncheits, Lebron James, and Steph
(01:14:29):
Curry last gast of their career. Up and coming stars
like Alprin should go to Jalen Green. I'm ready for
some NBA basketball, and if you don't want to watch,
you are missing out on the high I'll say, at
the highest talent level in the history of the league,
one through fifteen. On every team, players are better, faster, stronger,
more skilled than they ever have been. And it's a
fun watch for me now. Joelingband, who announced he's not
(01:14:51):
playing back to backs, shut your ball mess up.
Speaker 14 (01:14:53):
Man.
Speaker 2 (01:14:54):
He's had a bunch of knee problems as whole. He
doesn't want to win.
Speaker 21 (01:14:57):
He is.
Speaker 2 (01:14:57):
He is a Laramie tunsl of the NBA. He was
playing on one leg last year in the playoffs. I
think he wants to win. Time to recover, time to
get over this. He did not have to play last
year in the playoffs, and I heard stand by my statement.
He is there for the check. He's a Laramie Tunsil
of the NBA. Really good, great resumes. Joel is one
of the best talents in the NBA, and he plays
(01:15:20):
real hard and we're happy to have him. God, that
is so good. Your con mc nair is horrific. You'r
Darryl Moury is outstanding. That is unfair, Matt. JU see
Hannah playing flag football. I did see that all the
fake media. I gotta get me a one on one
with Hanna on this. Sometimes she lets me touch her. Okay,
(01:15:42):
that's enough for you on that. Seven one three two
one two five seven ninety Good God. If you get
anything else you wanted to really bothered you, let's go.
I'm bothered by my radio co host seven one three
two one two five seven ninety seven one three two
one two five seven ninety another segment of shutshoballmass up,
But I got time for that coming up after I
tell you about Two Creeks Crossing Resort. What do you
(01:16:05):
want to do when you want to get away but
you can't decide between going camping or going to a resort. Well,
guess what I've been telling you about a place that
you can do both, and that's Two Creeks Crossing Resort.
They have resort like amenities like a large pool, a
hot tub, a fitness center, outdoor movie theater, pickleball and
so much more. And if you want to go twenty
percent off of the cabin rentals, anything there that you
(01:16:28):
can spend for over night accommodations right now available for
twenty percent. Located in the East Texas Pine Forest, not
too far from Lake Livingston. It's a perfect compromise since
it doesn't compromise on amenities or service from all details
and to book a stay we can get twenty percent off.
Go to Two Creekscrossingresort dot com. That's two two Creekscrossingresort
(01:16:49):
dot com. Creg vizio here the heart of the order
is up right now, Matt Thomas the Swinging for the fences.
Here on Sports Talk seven ninety Matt Thomas Show continues
(01:17:15):
our number three coming up already. Okay. Here on Sports
Talk seven ninety ros Viyel with you Matt Thomas as well.
Phone lines open at seven one three two one two
five seven ninety seven one three two one two five
seven ninety had GM Rofelstone earlier on in the show
thanks to him for joining us Rockets tipping off tonight
(01:17:37):
at seven o'clock. All Right, I'm excited. I've got another
shut your ball mass up you do, and we're gonna
let the man who's asked to be shut Huh that's weird.
Uh yeah, it's not great, all right.
Speaker 10 (01:17:58):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:18:00):
Chris mad Dog russol okay sixty six WFA. He's in
the World Series Games. He was on his show called Spitballs.
I think are you serious? I think it's called hardballs
or bit balling with Chris Russel when the Mad Dog
so he had on his bestie Brian Cashman, the general
(01:18:21):
manager of the.
Speaker 22 (01:18:21):
Yankees, and it went something like this, give me your
thoughts here of fun of getting back and winning a
pennant after a fifteen year I don't want to say drout,
that's not fair. But you want to say what I'm
saying with the gap, how about winning a pennant?
Speaker 2 (01:18:34):
How does that mean to you? Let me hear it
means a lot. And I hate the fifteen year thing
because it doesn't.
Speaker 21 (01:18:40):
It completely forgets and discounts that some other organization seated
us when we were all the way in the end.
You know, if you knew what was going on, I
don't think they would be advancing at that during that
time thing. I think we would have been advancing. So
I hate that fifteen year thing because I don't think
it accurately reflects history.
Speaker 2 (01:18:57):
Shut your bumb ass up, man, I'm so sick and tired.
You guys are just as bad as cheaters, and you
just we actually got caught you Ron Manfreid, you get
protected your ass. Shut your bumb ass up. I have
zero respect for you Yankee fans, and I don't care
if you listen to a sixty six W fan. I'm
telling you, you guys are just as guilty as everybody else.
(01:19:19):
The Astros, just like Josh Readick on Twitter said yesterday,
had a rat that outed them everybody else got lucky,
So stop this. Well it was not a fifteen year thing.
Speaker 5 (01:19:29):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:19:30):
You see your automatically guarantee that if the Astros would
not have done things on a slide, which they did,
your team went one. Shut your bumb ass up, man,
shut it up. They did up.
Speaker 14 (01:19:40):
Man.
Speaker 2 (01:19:41):
They did not cheat in twenty nineteen, so I don't
know if he's bringing that up. And they did not
cheat in the playoffs in seventeen because Carlos Koreas said
he was too loud. The playoff games were too loud,
so their trash bit can banging scheme was not employed
in the play Apparently they tried, which you know, it's
(01:20:03):
tough to say, well we tried to cheat, but we couldn't.
But that's what happened. They weren't cheating in the twenty
seventeen the playoffs and their cheaters before and yeah, you
sent us the cheater Yankees. Carlos Beltra was living. He
was living in your life. He was like, you guys
are behind the times. This is how we were rolling
in Yankee and Yankeeville. So to localize a little bit,
(01:20:29):
our buddy Adam Clayton, who we love, uh oh, What
did he have to say about this, Well, he used
a phrase, oh no, that I want abolished. Okay. Is
it a slur or something?
Speaker 14 (01:20:42):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:20:43):
Okay. He says that the Astros are living rent free
in Brian Cashman's I, under every circumstance want the phrase
living rent free out of our acular. I think you
know it's it's yeah. I'm glad you brought this up,
(01:21:04):
because I was thinking about this actually recently as well.
We need to do we do need to have a
discussion about the use of the term rent free, because
sometimes it is apt to use rent free, which if
those are you uninitiated, means I'm living rent free in
your head. That means you're thinking about me all the time,
and I'm always on your mind. Yeah, And so I
(01:21:25):
think some people use it a little bit too much.
So I think the Astros were and have been living
rent free in the Yankees fans and Dodgers fans' heads.
I would agree with that, But I'm just saying, let's
think of a different name, because I just don't like
living rent free. I see it all the time. It's overused. Like,
(01:21:47):
for instance, I had somebody that was like, we brought
up the lebron So for a conversation piece. He said,
be better, Matthew, I hate be better. Okay, Uh yeah,
I mean I was talking. I think I said something
to somebody about like the oh Sooners, and somebody was like, yeah,
the Sooners are living rent free in your head? Like No,
I was just making a comment. I think about the Cowboys.
(01:22:08):
That's what it was. I think we hear on the
Matt Thomas Show with Ross will never utter that blank
blank blank is living rent free and blank blank, so
I will try to not Yeah, because it's overused. People
use it when it doesn't apply or do better or
be better. I do need to be better. Those are No,
that's that's a trigger for me. I mean sometimes it works,
like Taylor mathis lives rent free in your head. Yes
(01:22:30):
she does. Let's take a look at what she's doing.
So sometimes it works. But let me see what But
I think I'm with you. It's a little overused and
I think misapplied so often. She's a Cowboys fan, by
the way, God, she's She's all over the place. She
(01:22:50):
loves the Cowboys. Her favorite player is these Twitter memes
that say po v euro this or this or that
he means point of view. It is your point of view,
and they're not doing it from the person's point of view.
Half the time they're getting that wrong, and that upsets me. Okay,
I will never ever utter to you I'm living rent
(01:23:14):
free in your head or this person's living rent free
in someone else. Good, not gonna do it, Okay, do
we take a pledge? Not a pledge. I'm just not
gonna do it. Okay? Oh another one for another one
for you?
Speaker 14 (01:23:24):
You do you?
Speaker 8 (01:23:25):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (01:23:26):
Hate that?
Speaker 7 (01:23:27):
You do? You?
Speaker 2 (01:23:28):
Ross? Hmm? Interesting? So rentfree be better?
Speaker 6 (01:23:35):
You do you?
Speaker 2 (01:23:36):
If I had you had to get rid of one
of the three never to be uttered by another human
being on this earth, which one would you choose? You
know there's another one that's overused. Player X went player X,
like Rafael Montero went Rafael Montero. What do you think
that means? Brad on seven ninety? What's the matter with you? Brad?
Speaker 20 (01:23:59):
All those rays that called your show for the Astros
thinking they were going to go to the championship, and
I told you that predicted they should have got rid
of Bragman at the trade deadline. Can you imagine they'd
have like four or five minor league studs, and they
could still get Bragman and they what they do in
(01:24:21):
the playoffs?
Speaker 2 (01:24:23):
Nothing the Kokuchie trade.
Speaker 9 (01:24:26):
Nothing.
Speaker 20 (01:24:27):
He helped them get to the playoffs, but he didn't
even get the pitch.
Speaker 10 (01:24:32):
So who won that?
Speaker 9 (01:24:34):
So Astro fans, you sucked this year. You were preposters.
You weren't nothing in Remember remember mad you and I
predict the Yankees would go to the World Series.
Speaker 2 (01:24:48):
That's all I got right. We didn't even tell anybody
shut their nod. You shut your bumb ass up. Why
would they have traded away Alex Bregman when they were down?
They were down the stretch in an American League West race,
and they did win the division and make the playoffs.
That is asen nine, That is up Man and Kikuci
help them win the division because I don't without him,
(01:25:09):
I don't want that triple a uh Toronto blue Jay
pitcher who what's the guy's name? I have, Jake bloss
go on, mister three and a third. I don't need that.
They wouldn't have gotten anywhere close to it. They were
nine to one in games started by him. His weight
as a man, you know, come on now, oh Joey
Lo Braffito, you mean yeah what I say? Oh god
it you know what? See, this is why Brad should
(01:25:32):
be banned. That was a waste. I want to apologize
for everyone for wasting two minutes of their time with
the hearing Brad talk right. That seems fair, all right?
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety Josh

their seasons tonight against the hated Charlotte Hornets. Clock Rockets
launch pad. Basically reading of the game notes from one
Rossfield Riale. Excuse me, yeah, reading game notes? What game

(01:27:36):
gave us great stuff too, significantly better than.
Speaker 7 (01:27:41):
You.
Speaker 2 (01:27:41):
Just running through notes, he sounds so pumped up about
Shingoon and Green and Jalen Green. I'm I'm pumped up.

all right, Friday, Well that's that's true. All right. Seven. Well,
I'm gonna definitely call you because I'm going to work
on the airport for there your tickets, right, I forgot
to ask you for during the break. Uh, I was
just going to stand remember again, do you want him? Well,
(01:28:24):
don't worry about it. We'll talk about They're not my tick.
They're standing TV. They like you. Try to get the
MT plan. I know kidding. Seven one, three, two five, seven,
Hoey Ross. Tell the folks about the new Texans linebacker
they signed today. What's his name? Devin White? Devin White? Yes, Yes,
let's see, he was let go by the Tampa Bay well,
(01:28:47):
just not retained by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. And then
he was signed to a one year, seven and a
half million dollar deal by the Philadelphia Eagles. They released him,
and then now he has signed as a free agent
with the Houston Texans. All right back on the field today,
Kamari Lassiter, Henry to otoa not there today? AlSi sha
alshar year Toto is not No, he's there. Okay he is.
(01:29:09):
Let me tell you, sir, Amara Lassiter, Henry TOTOA good there? Okay, good?
Not there? Robert Woods, Jimmy Ward, alziz Al shayre h Okay, okay,
feel good about that? Not really. Fernando Venezuela, passed away
at the age of sixty two. Will have believe it
or not in him coming up sixty three, Come out
to him at two fifty and uh. Deanre Hopkins has
(01:29:32):
been traded from Tennessee to Kansas City m HM, and
he is twenty third on the all time receiving yards list,
behind Art Monk. You're do you remember Armonk when he played?
Speaker 14 (01:29:43):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:29:43):
Okay, I do, yeah, okay. He's a legend of the game.
Part of the fun bunch. Didn't people say he didn't
deserve to be in the hall. Who was the one
the receiver from the Steelers that people said that didn't
deserve one? Oh, lynz Wan, that's one seven one three
two one two five is seven. It says from non
swinger King, what I love that when it shows up?
Josh on seven ninety at two oh seven, Josh, good afternoon.
Speaker 16 (01:30:07):
Good afternoon, Matt Ross. Please forgive my tardiness for the
Shuto bumb ass up.
Speaker 5 (01:30:12):
That's signe we can do yep, just real.
Speaker 16 (01:30:16):
Quick so we can move on. I wanted to squeeze
this in there. You know, for a couple of years
now we've been listening to Brad talk about young studs
this and that. I'm starting to, you know, really wonder
about his Google history. Man, A bunch of young studs
in there. So Brad stuck it. Shut your bum mass up.
And Matt, last Thursday at two forty three pm, you
said go Dodgers, so on behalf of the entire city
(01:30:39):
of Houston, We would respectfully like to tell you to
shut your bump ass up.
Speaker 2 (01:30:43):
All right, Josh, don't hang up yet. I am giving
you a ultimatum right here, right now at two oh
seven pm. You must know you're going to do this,
you damn straight, I was gonna do this. You must
say either let's go Dodgers or let's go Yankees. What
are you gonna say? Let's go? Shut your bumb ass up? Then, oh,
(01:31:07):
look us our buddy Bradward on The Matt Thomas Show
with with Frost Bradward long time, no talk, how things.
Speaker 17 (01:31:17):
Long time?
Speaker 2 (01:31:19):
Yeah, we can hear your bad word.
Speaker 7 (01:31:22):
Well well, well look chimes and Yankee fan brad here
bomb ass up? Yeah, man, have become quite insufferable, but
the as was still a youngster. Colin Moran, if you
ran the team, buddy, brad be better.
Speaker 2 (01:31:45):
Man, yes, hello, be well no, no, I know the
b walls either. No more on Bradward cool a little
Royce White vernacular and McCurry I think bradword. I mean well,
Brad in Spring Branch or Miami, where the hell is
right now? Right here's a big tray cabbage guy.
Speaker 9 (01:32:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (01:32:07):
So were you Well?
Speaker 2 (01:32:09):
I was really a gut It was a horrific gut feeling.
I was six down. By the way, Matt, you were
asking about Devin White, would you like his rankings at line.
Pro Football Focus Matt, Okay, let's let's tell people hate it.
Pro Football Focus are by a bunch of virgins who
study football. You imagine some of them are copulating. I
(01:32:29):
would say less than twenty percent of those employees that
by a profile focus. That means they got a lot
of time to watch football. Then that you're making my point.
They have more time to watch football because they ain't
getting no ass. Some people hate Pro Football Focus and
think their rankings are terrible. Who hates them?
Speaker 8 (01:32:46):
So?
Speaker 2 (01:32:47):
Some people?
Speaker 7 (01:32:47):
Can?
Speaker 2 (01:32:47):
We just take them in the brain of salt is
that can. Whatever the grades agree with you with you,
then you love them. When they disagree with you that
you hate them. That's how it goes. Gotcha, larrymy Tonsil
retweets them when they say he's one of the best
pass blockers and they say best one of the worst
run buckers. He doesn't retweet I got you and now
I got you. I'm just gonna go with the ranks.
Line banker eighties two. Line banker A backers ranked in
(01:33:10):
twenty twenty three. Yeah, Caleb, I'm sorry. Devin White was
eightieth out of eighty two twenty twenty two out of
eighty one qualifying linebackers seventy fourth. Then why didn't stand
in Northfleet want to make sweet love to him? On
his show today twenty twenty one, eighty six qualifying linebackers. Yeah,
(01:33:32):
this is enough snaps seventy ninth. Okay, this is not
working well for us here. And there's your last three
years of Devin White. And he tweeted, and I responded
to his tweet. I was like, you know why, He's like,
I don't understand. Why was he available? Why did the
Buccaneers not resign him? And then the Eagles signed him?
And then he played in camp, but then he didn't
(01:33:53):
make the team and hadn't seen a snap and hasn't played,
and he's let go and then he's on the market
for a week and then all wires Pro Football Focus
ratings aren't so good. Let's put it together, folks.
Speaker 10 (01:34:04):
We don't need.
Speaker 2 (01:34:05):
Colombo to crack this case. He's not very good. What
is your expectations of Seth White? Devin doesn't matter. Devin White.
We don't even know his names name. I'm putting him
in the prora. I dare I dare two people to
call him with a Devin White take. I literally dare Houston,
(01:34:27):
Texas to do that. Okay, we can do it. There's
no possible way. There's no way that two people can
call seven one three two one two five seven ninety
and give me a logical take on Devin White. We'll
see what he can provide. He's a good pass rusher,
but can't do much else. Even bucketing Buccaneers fans on Twitter,
(01:34:48):
let's just say they're not very happy with and hasn't
and hasn't hit a human being this year, at least
on a football field, not not in a live action.
Maybe in a bar, but that'd be as far as
it gets. Seven one three two one to five, seven ninety.
Let's go to Felipe on the Matt Thomas Show with
Ross at two eleven High Felipe.
Speaker 5 (01:35:07):
At the noon.
Speaker 9 (01:35:07):
Guys, if you don't take them tickets from uh Matt,
then I will.
Speaker 2 (01:35:11):
Yeah, look at y'all, and Matt's got a long list
of people and usually at the front of my list
to stand Northfleet.
Speaker 5 (01:35:17):
Yeah, and you're probably like a dead last.
Speaker 2 (01:35:20):
I didn't go to one game last that's not one
last year, really not, because every time I asked you,
all the stands got him. Stan Dan is on the
Matt Mini plan. I'm pretty sure he just you know,
has a six game mini plan with Matt Thomas there.
I think he's I think it's a twenty two my
season ticket points go ahead?
Speaker 5 (01:35:41):
Oh wow, no, man, actually at a question to that one.
Speaker 9 (01:35:45):
Man, I haven't even been to a Rockets game since
two thousand and seven or eight.
Speaker 8 (01:35:49):
What.
Speaker 2 (01:35:50):
Yeah, it's been a while for me.
Speaker 1 (01:35:51):
I'm actually trying to get my brother some tickets and
I'm gonna probably take them, hopefully tonight or not Friday,
so I'm gonna see this is a surprise them.
Speaker 2 (01:36:00):
Yeah, quick quick take on this, man. I think the
Rockets this year will probably finish over forty five wins,
all right, And I think Shangon's gonna be an All Star.
I would hope both happened, because if Shangoon's an All Star,
that means the Rockets are probably pacing for forty five wins.
It's very man.
Speaker 9 (01:36:21):
I mean, I think I'll go with the money along
on that one and hopefully I can make that bet.
Speaker 5 (01:36:28):
Man. I do think they'll do well this year.
Speaker 13 (01:36:30):
I'm actually gonna be picking up on it because you know,
I don't really watch the Rockets.
Speaker 9 (01:36:34):
I haven't been watching them for the past few years.
But it's time I've been listening.
Speaker 8 (01:36:37):
Said, it is time now that I've been listening more
seven to ninety, listening to you guys more now that listen.
Speaker 2 (01:36:42):
I've actually listened a few games last year when Mat
and I discovered hate Matt was the voice of the Rockets.
Speaker 6 (01:36:47):
Go well good, I.
Speaker 2 (01:36:48):
Got to tell your friends, tell your neighbors, tell anybody.
At this point, tell people to hate me. I don't care.
Looking to grow the show, Yeah, grow the grow the show,

Speaker 1 (01:38:32):
This is the Matt Thomas Show. Matt Thomas on Sports
Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (01:38:47):
We love our company again. We're just gonna flat out
say it. I would not recommend listening to dudes on dudes. Okay, sorry,
Look at the acrobatic goal by Harry Matthew. Oh oh,
such athleticism, such amazing concentration. What a goal by Bayern Munich.
(01:39:08):
There's nobody there? What happened? Isn't the crowd is full?
What are you talking about? That deck looks empty or
they just covered up. I think your eyes are not functioning. Okay,
that's fine. That's in Barcelona. They let me tell you.
I'll say this, even though soccer is a horrifically boring sport,
every time he puts it on here, there is every
seed in every game I've ever seen you put on them,
(01:39:29):
the history of this show. And we're working together. There's
somebody in the chairs. Look at that. I mean it's
jam packed in Barcelona versus Bayern Munich. That matchup. That
place can hold an NFL game next year. They could
at the Yeah, the camp new as it is called,
I think it holds like seventy thousand. Yeah, what do
thing might take about yesterday? That we're going to see
(01:39:50):
every team play at least one international game per year? Wait,
this is ninety nine thousand?
Speaker 9 (01:39:55):
What the heck?
Speaker 2 (01:39:55):
Sorry to be sixteen minimum sixteen minimum regular season games
in overseas. I guess it's gonna happen eventually. I don't know.
They've already got a stranglehold on America, and you know
they want more money. All these owners. That's why they
get in this business for the most part. Oh yeah,
(01:40:16):
that's why Col's keeping it. Yeah, yeah, why Hannah, He
told me he's keeping it. Carrie told Kerry McNairy shut
his mom ass.
Speaker 7 (01:40:26):
He did.
Speaker 2 (01:40:27):
Hannah's like scoreboard batch, I marded the right one. She did,
smart Gal. She had made She's had very few missteps, Hannah,
don't miss. Is that what you're saying. I'm saying Hannah's well,
Hannah's sacrificing some things, I mean general happiness probably, but
(01:40:47):
what I'm sure she's very happy in her day to day.
Oh and she's running things, Yes, I'm sure she That's
what That was the game plan. And I'm glad she
wrestled control away from her husband. I mean ever since
she took back out of there. Yeah, no kidding. Seven
one three two one two five seven ninety seven to
one three two one two five seven ninety Alex and
Conra and The Matt Thomas Show with Ross High Alex.
(01:41:10):
What's up, guys, Just two quick two quick hits.
Speaker 13 (01:41:13):
Yeah, So, with the whole financial stress that the acts
are going through, why haven't I mean, why haven't they
tried to just restructure Montero in a Brady's contracts to where,
you know, you just pay them out a little bit
longer through the time, maybe shorter them out now.
Speaker 2 (01:41:29):
While this window is still open. That seems like it'd
be pretty easy to do.
Speaker 13 (01:41:32):
And but I guess really what my question is, if
they were able to restructure those contracts, would the new
number apply to the salary cap or it will still
be the original.
Speaker 2 (01:41:42):
No, they don't do it that way. They they those
dollars will be attached to every year of that contract.
They could pay them. They could pay them fifty thousand
dollars a year for the rest of their life or
three million dollars. It isn't affected when you sign a
contract that the contract LinkedIn dollars for each particular year
are put into the database. And that's why they figure
out the competitive balance.
Speaker 10 (01:42:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:42:03):
For example, like when when they traded for Zach Grinkey
and Arizona sent money. Are Arizona sent money that still
goes the full contract goes on same thing with Justin
Verlander and the Mets. Right, even though even though JD
was only being paid partly by the Astros, his entire
contract amount was on the rockets on the Astros books. Okay,
(01:42:24):
so you're married to that original member, yes, regardless of.
Speaker 13 (01:42:27):
How second question, yesterday, y'all were kind of going through
this little moment where you were discussing new segments. I
think it'd be really hilarious if you started an M
I D. A Hole segment where a college can call
in and get, you know, get a survey on whether
or not they.
Speaker 2 (01:42:46):
Are the ale. It's funny talked about this before. Ross
and I talked about this and thank you for the
phone call. And that's a that's a pretty popular UHI
reddit has a A I T A. It's extremely popular.
The problem we kind of the roadblock is we were
kind of sprainstorming that or it was your idea. I
(01:43:06):
think Matt was trying to get people. We would have
to vet the calls because, honestly, I mean, have you
heard Brad call like, we need people who are gonna
it's gonna gotta be good content from the callers. And
that's hard to the easiest. For hand, the easy thing
would be for us to say, are we you the
a whole Ross or you the a hole Matt? But
(01:43:29):
usually the answer is yes, and so our egos are gentle. No,
I don't want to be called an ahole on a
weekly basis daily. I mean I get it at home
all the time. So we were trying to think of
figure out a way to get good entries I guess
from people, whether via email or Twitter, and then we
(01:43:49):
could vet them that way. I don't I don't know.
It's not exactly we could make it work. The reason
why we decided not to do it immediately was because, again,
there may be a long story to it. Yeah. I
think if we just let people a free for all
of people calling in with their am my the a
hole stuff, they could have a very high ceiling but
also very loof Yeah. You'd have to basically just tell
(01:44:09):
us whatever you wanted to tell us in about two sentences. Yeah,
and not be Yeah, because some of those posts on
that reddit are like they're they're novelance. Yeah, we've thought
about this. Don't worry. We're always trying. We're always trying
to do to do interesting things. In the show because
it's mostly bad. Good lord, do you want to really
break down back up linebackers for three hours on the show?
(01:44:29):
We can go Devin White's PFF grades again if you'd
like that. The way did I not demand the two
people call him a Devon White calls? How where do
we get it is zero?
Speaker 5 (01:44:36):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:44:37):
I'm sorry. Yesterday I said no one's driving cars over
from two thousand and nine we had twenty five people,
so I know, I know the pulse of the show.
Speaker 8 (01:44:47):
You do.
Speaker 2 (01:44:48):
Nobody wants to talk about Devin White. Trust me on this.
Some people do. I hope Clinton Wexer, God love them.
Don't get into a deep dive on Devin Devin White
will be mentioned on that show. I just you know
what if if he gets two sacks this week, we'll
we'll do twenty four to seven on Devin White. But
(01:45:10):
right now, sight unseen you've given the PFF grades, then
great and read the tea leaves. Like I said, the
grades aren't everything. Grades are a lot of though buccaneers
didn't resign. I remember, these are men that are scott
of these things on PFF that are not having sex. Well,
that's what I gonna do. Last time I checked, the
Philadelphia Eagles don't have the most dominant defense in the league.
(01:45:32):
They did just crush the Cleveland but also that's because
Jamis Winston and Dorian Thomas Robinson and while Deshaun Watson
terrible too. All Right, we're gonna run through some other headlines.
We come back to twenty seven believe it or not,
Today is all things about Fernando Vealezuela. I would have
to say, ROSSI a top five favorite picture of mine
as I was a kid. Really, I'm gonna be my
(01:45:52):
quick list. This is one underd and fifteen years of age.
Nolan Ryan won, Okay, Fernando Vealezuela two.
Speaker 10 (01:46:00):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:46:01):
Any of the Negroes. I'll put Joe and Phil in
the same category because I love the knuckleball. Three I'll
put that three A and three B. Guy named Jean Garber,
who was a reliever for the Atlanta Braves, was a
side arm throw ahead, a very awkward motion, okay. And
also the mad Hungarian Hal Raboski, who was a brave
and a cardinal and he'd warm up, he'd go and
(01:46:22):
warm up his pitches and then he would step off
the mount and just screaming. Yet at the very end,
before he got back on the mound, they called him
the mad Hungarian. I'll take your word for it. So
those are my five? Okay, you want my five? And
then when I was fifteen, real quick, Shane Reynolds, ooh,
Mike Hampton okay, Pedro Martinez, yeah, Greg Maddox was aliena
(01:46:45):
not a bad group, right there, let's go, let's go
two twenty eight Sports Talk seven ninety seven one three
two one two five seven ninety seven one three two
one two. Randy Johnson, never mind, put Randy Johnson there
somewhere you were fifteen and under then ninety eight was
the trader, was the team. We have a difference in
age makes me sad. I'm glad because you will always
(01:47:06):
be older than me, significantly old. There's no way I
can catch it. Connor makes me feel old because he's like,
what's up, dog, what's busting?
Speaker 15 (01:47:13):
Dog?
Speaker 2 (01:47:13):
And I'm like, what are you talking about? You don't
say what's busting?
Speaker 5 (01:47:16):
Do you?
Speaker 2 (01:47:16):
I don't ever heard you every like He's like, y'all
got to get to break no cat, And I'm like,
what are you talking about? Connor?
Speaker 9 (01:47:22):
Connor?
Speaker 2 (01:47:23):
Do I have drip and RIZ neither. How can I
How can I get some riz and some drip? Well,
I don't.
Speaker 18 (01:47:33):
I don't know if you really need riz because you're married.
And drip maybe just maybe not sweatpants and the quarter zip.
Maybe switch it up a little bit. I love the
quarter zip. I live for the quarter zip. You and
the Mannings Peyton Manning and Eli Manning love the quarterzip.
On Manning cast I would live. I would live in
a quarter zip, which, by the way, I love Manning
(01:47:53):
cast on Mondays. Now when Bill Belichick comes on every
first half, it's great. Oh way, it's such a fraud.
Speaker 2 (01:47:58):
He hated the media. Now he's in the media. I
you know what Bill Belichick, Shut yo bumbass up. Mate,
you know what Bill Belichick said. They cut that check
and he likes them a lot better. Yeah, he's just
such a fraudy. It's almost as fraudulous as you are.
Seven one three, almost as fraudulous as the word fraudulus
fraudulust still works. It's not a word. It sounds good though.
Seven one three, two one two five seven ninety seven
(01:48:19):
one three two one two five seven eighty. I'm Matt
He's the fraud and this is Sports Talk seven ninety
with the word here for Berkeley I Center. Well, right now,
you can get thirty percent off your lasic laser prescription.
But you perceived you I should say if you call
seven one three five two six eyes and mention me
Matt Thomas, say hey, Matt said, I get thirty percent off,
(01:48:39):
and they'll set you up to visit with a one
of the doctors and make sure you're a candidate for
Lasik laser vision correction. Get rid of those subscriptions for contacts,
cleaning solutions, new prescriptions, new glasses. Just get clear natural vision.
And you can do that today with Berkeley Eye Center
seven one three five two six eyes thirty percent off,
(01:48:59):
plus they'll make it tax free if you have an
HSA or FSA account seven one three five two six
siyes for that free consultation, But you gotta mention me
Matt Thomas in order to get that thirty percent discount.
All from Berkeley I Center seven one three five two
six e y Yes. Eric Gordon just put on his
(01:49:24):
Instagram account his year seventeen in the NBA of the
Philadelphia seventy six ers, and I just texted him. I said,
Damue old and he says, crying back crying emoji. Egs
still making it a good money now in Philadelphia. Hey,
really got the band back together, Daryl Mory, you there
is Daniel House Junior still over there, Daniel excuse me.
(01:49:45):
I think it's Danielle He said it. We had the
liners and he said, Daniel Hey, hey, everybody like we're
gonna hear it tonight on the Rockets launch bed. Hey,
it's Albrea and Shandon. Hey, it was it's Daniel House,
like he said, Daniel House. It was his words.
Speaker 14 (01:49:58):
I know.
Speaker 2 (01:50:01):
It's reed Shepherd. I've got the mustache when Daniel retires,
like Super retires. I'm not asking about what happened in Orlando. Uh,
what are you talking about? Remember he got in trouble.
Oh don't we know? We sort of know, but I
want to get it right from the sleeping with a nurse.
(01:50:21):
I want to know exactly who it was and why
couldn't he just relax in his pants. Sometimes a moment
strikes Maddie, I guess that's what happened with Daniel House Junior.
Here's your food. He got kicked out of the bubble right.
Here's how it worked. The nurse comes the door. Yes,
I gotta swab you. Here's some food. What's up girl?
And he did some swabbing of his and she went
(01:50:42):
in there and swabbed him. Hmm, all the good old
days of COVID.
Speaker 15 (01:50:52):
That was.
Speaker 2 (01:50:52):
Yeah, the bubble, What what a time? What do I called?
A year of basketball off of the jumbo tron on
Rocket road games. I was in the arena those being
in the Tota Center, empty at night, at eleven thirty
at night calling a Rockets Kings game. Uber surreal, It
is weird. It was weird. That's crazy. They never had
one case of COVID in in that in that bubble,
(01:51:14):
right right, everybody was sanitizing and washing and cleansing in
their p's and q's in that nurse. Yeah, let's go
to Anthony and Deer Park on seven ninety and two
thirty six. Anthony, good afternoon.
Speaker 8 (01:51:28):
Hey, good afternoon, guys.
Speaker 17 (01:51:30):
Hey.
Speaker 14 (01:51:31):
A few weeks ago, I called in uh said that
my gut filling was that the Rockets would be a
playoff team this year. And I just wanted to call
and reiterate that since they tip off tonight. And I
also think that Reed Shepherd will win Rookie of the Year.
I did have a question for y'all. Did y'all watch
the Celtics and Knicks game last night?
Speaker 2 (01:51:52):
You mean the I mean the three point barrage over
and over again.
Speaker 14 (01:51:57):
Yes, So I wanted to make a statement, and if
I'm wrong, I would love for you all to correct me.
But I think that Jason Tatum is the best player
in the world, and I don't think it's particularly close.
Speaker 2 (01:52:09):
Well, he looked like you last night.
Speaker 8 (01:52:10):
Eight.
Speaker 2 (01:52:10):
I know he had eight made threes in the first
three quarters. How many did you know?
Speaker 14 (01:52:14):
It was? They for eleven from three? And there was
a point in the game where Jericho Sims was like
right in his grill and he hit a step back
three and you could just see Jericho sims body language this.
I mean, it was like what, you can't guard him.
He's he's nearly unguardable. He's got the best handles in
the league. He can pass, he was down in the
(01:52:34):
paint block and shot to me, he.
Speaker 9 (01:52:37):
Does it all.
Speaker 2 (01:52:38):
I'm still sticking with Nikola Jokic. I think, but tatums
in the conversation, Hatum wakes up scoring twenty five points
a game. It's it, Yeah, to basically ty an NBA
record for three pointers in the first game of the year.
I mean, they're not. If you watch any of that
(01:53:01):
game last night, you're like, who the hell is going
to beat them in a seven game series? I mean, really,
that's what you thought. Absolutely, it's what I thought. Yeah,
maybe a healthy I think healthy Bucks might be sneaky,
But you're we said that for the last couple of years.
And can Doc Rivers really lead a team in the championship?
Thanks for the call, Well he has before sixteen years ago. Well, yeah,
(01:53:22):
he was also given three of the best seventy five
players in the world. That's correct. Another NHL together in
one year. That was their first year together, they won
a championship. Yeah, although Andrew Bidhen was hurting those eight
finals man as you Okay, So if the Rockets aren't
making the NBA Finals, which hopefully they believe. They believe
they are not making the NBA Finals, I think it's
gonna be hard to beat Boston in the East the West.
(01:53:49):
I want to give you somebody sneaky like Dallas last
year was sneaky. I'm gonna go keep it simple, stupid
method Denver. Denver the team that knocked them out, was
built to beat them with the Twin Towers of Gobert,
Karl Anthony Towns. Karl Anthony Towns is now New York. Nick,
it's Denver's conference to lose. In my opinion, I hate
to say it, but I think you're absolutely right. I
(01:54:10):
think we're gonna see Denver v. Boston from the finals.
ESPN recently released their top one hundred players in the NBA.
They had Jokic, Doncic, then Yannis As one two, three
non Americans, Shay Gilge Alexander Canadian, Canadian four, Jason Tatum
number one American player. So they had Tatum five, Curry six,
(01:54:34):
twenty ninth, Staph. Come on, this is twenty twenty four.
That seems a little much. I mean, we appreciate everything
stuff done, but greatest jump shooter of all time, greatest
shooter of all time and even close in my opinion. Yep,
So there you go. Then they have uh yeah, Steph six,
Lebron seven. Lebron is not seven. He shouldn't be. He
(01:54:54):
shouldn't be ahead of Joel Embiid who's eight, Kevin Durant nine,
Anthony Edwards ten. It's your top ten. You know what
if you only want to go to a team that
could be sneaky good if healthy. But that same situation
New Orleans, if your boy Zion plays over seventy plays
more than seventy, Brandon Ingram plays over seventy. Yeah, he's
(01:55:15):
a Jante Murray is there. Now, they got a good squad.
They lost Valentounis. Who's their big man?
Speaker 17 (01:55:21):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (01:55:23):
Oh it's a Hartenstein, isn't it. Oh he's he's Oklahoma City,
ok City. I'm getting the mixed up. Who is there
big man? And I just called their game in a night?
Speaker 5 (01:55:31):
Yeah?
Speaker 10 (01:55:31):
I know.
Speaker 2 (01:55:33):
All these teams are legend Jackson Hay is still there? Uh?
Is he hurt? I don't remember who plays the five
for the New Orleans Herb Jones. Oh, Herb Jones is
a good all defensive team player. They have Herb Jones.
Herb Jones is a wing. I thought he's listed as
their center. No, there's no way he's playing five. ESPN
has I'm listed on the depth charts. The name their
(01:55:54):
centers real quick? Zion Williamson. Okay, and he's missy me
see first round pick out of Baylor. Yeah, they got issues.
They forget about to pump the breaks of the Pelicans break.
But I mean Murray McCollum Ingram Williamson is pretty solid
one through four. Yeah, all right, a couple of the
quick headlines before we get to believe it or not,
(01:56:14):
We mentioned the Chiefs are finalizing in trade for DeAndre Hopkins.
Does that add another layer to their awesomeness. He's a
possession receiver at this point, right He's not what he
once was. We'll see if he can be revitalized. It's
more of Rashid Rice is down, Juju Smith. Schuster's hurt
and not very good smart moved by them. I mean
(01:56:36):
they've been rolling with Mikil Hardman. Xavier Worthy is good,
but he's just he's downfield. He's not working short areas
stuff and getting open in the middle of the field.
Right now, they use him on jet sweeps. He's kind
of like in a way, they're take Dell okay, although
I think quite frankly take Deel's better than Xavior Worthy
at this point. Well, technics have a big week. Miss
will be the week that he's gonna He got like
(01:56:56):
a bunch of targets. He'd pay that one drop in
a touchdown. I believe in Tank Dell. Let's say I
do too. All thing I worry about Tank Dell's is size,
but about ability. I don't worry about a couple of things.
Jameis Winston is gonna start this week for the Browns
against Ravens. I got a I got a hot, taky
question or a thought they're gonna get better. We ever
see Deshan Watson play again for the Browns. There are
(01:57:18):
people I think was it shifter? I don't want to
talk out of school. I'm not totally sure. Somebody was
speculating that he could be done, which sings insane because
all of his money is guaranteed. What kind of cap
hit are they taken if he if he doesn't play
horrendous like franchise futility for multiple time to rebuild right
right right?
Speaker 10 (01:57:39):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:57:41):
The Utah Jazz ownership willing to help by you get
a player, and we mean by willing to help meaning
anil my millions of dollars. What's that player's name? He's
like the number one recruit in the coach j Diae Bansa. Yeah,
he's apparently like if he could go straight to the NBA,
he'd be a first round pick and I'm hearing between
(01:58:01):
three and a half and four million dollars. Good for him,
Let's go, let's get the let's get the check to
let me tell you sit him to Texas. If BYU
is cutting three and a half to four million dollars, check,
you know where that money is coming from the church.
They lost their coach, right, didn't their coach go to Kentucky?
Was their coach Mark Pope?
Speaker 14 (01:58:19):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:58:19):
