Speaker 1 (00:02):
Lunchtimers. This is the Matt Thomas Show, ten oh two
nh Town. Good morning, and welcome to the Matt Thomas
Show with Ross. This is weird for us too, so
just help us navigate these waters. To my right is
(00:22):
Ross Villaryale. I'm Matt Thomas, and it's great to have
you with us. Hey, Matt, you're saying, well, what's happening lunchtimers, Well,
that will be still a part of the show. Will
not be until noon. We'll do that because nobody has
lunch at ten o'clock in the morning unless you're seventy
three years old. And brunch. Nobody has brunch in the
middle of the week unless you were making high seven figures.
Sure an alcoholic, that's true. Here you go. I could
(00:45):
go for a mimosa right now. Oh my gosh. Uh,
we are here, and to be brutally honest, we did
not expect to be here twenty four hours ago. And
we'll just get this out of the way. We'll mention
a times in the course of the show. Obviously, our
parent company had a reduction in workforce yesterday and unfortunately
(01:08):
lost a member of our our team, and I do
call him a team. We are a team. Stay North
Flat no longer with us, so we will inherit his
show spot, and we will take this program until two o'clock,
So we'll be on for four hours every day between
ten and two, and it'll still be much of the
same high jinks, much as a chagrin of some people
on Twitter. Coffee, probably more coffee. I don't know what
(01:30):
I'm gonna have lunch, because Ross and I do believe
you should never eat while you're on the air, and
it's impossible to eat during commercial breaks because it's unhealthy.
You can't digest and it causes on air. Yeah, you
don't want that, but we are going to misstand. It
was a tremendous pleasure working with him. We gave each
(01:50):
other lots of good natured ribbing. I mean lots, and
I probably did more to him than he did to me,
but it was all in good fun. I really enjoyed
working with him. We broke bread on many occasions. I
think he took half the tickets on my Rockets games
last year, and he's always welcome to have my Rockets
tickets again. But unfortunately our parent company did this nationwide.
(02:13):
It wasn't just Houston. It was major markets all throughout
the country, and sadly there was that to be a change.
So we're all having to kind of step up a
little bit and move time slots and at hours of
the show. So if you love us, you get an
extra hour. If you hate us, well we're gonna give
you an opportunity to relove us again. I like that,
Matt very well put. Now, there were some people that
(02:34):
and it's funny because Stan put a tweet out yesterday
and I retweeted it and put my own personal comments
on it, and it's you know, people were very sad
when hosts leave and you develop a personal relationship with people,
and then it also gives you an opportunity to take
shots at other people on the station. And there were
a couple of people in particular what it did so
and I didn't appreciate that, but everybody's got That's what
(02:56):
Twitter does, is it gives you a chance to take
cheap shots at people. And I took him on me
and I'm a big boy. I can grow up, but
I mean I'm not gonna just sit there and just
take it. So to Kirk out there, you can go
to hell. The rest of you. What I don't know,
you're just so funny. Well, well, anyways, anyways, we're gonna
miss Dan. Yes. Fortunately, I have been very lucky to
(03:20):
be in this business a long period of time. I
know a lot of people around this country, and I'm
going to do whatever I can do personally to get
stand back on the air, whether it's here or somewhere else.
So we will miss him, and again good nature rivving
between the two of us, and we had a lot
of fun Franklin Moore off air that we did on
and he will be missed. But we're gonna go on.
The show's gonna go on. Our lineup is now six
(03:40):
to ten with Sean. I'll be on with Ross from
ten o'clock until two. We're gonna keep many of the
same elements. We're gonna shift a few things around. Like
I said, you can't wake up the light. You can't
say good morning or what's happening lunchtimers at ten o'clock?
Can you say good night? Strippers? Well, ten am a
little too late. The strippers are gonna stay at Fridays
at noon, how because there's no way they're getting up
(04:04):
a ten o'clock on a Friday morning. Oh Okay, you're
gonna keep it to noon. Yeah. You know, originally it
was two o'clock when we were on two to four. Yeah, yeah,
and that was the perfect time for good Morning Strip.
It was because the two o'clock is their willhouse, so
we will visit with them on Friday still at noon. Okay,
we'll solve all of our main features with shut your ball,
mass up and gut feelings. To tell the truth, we're
(04:24):
gonna gut Feelings today at eleven o'clock. And again we
don't I mean, this is brutally honest, and we're not
gonna spend a lot of time on this. We didn't
know about this until three thirty yesterday afternoon, so we're
kind of massaging what we're doing, so you're gonna hear
some weird liners and stuff like that. We're gonna ultimately
fix everything. It's just not gonna be done overnight. Yeah.
I would just say, I'm with you. My head is spinning.
(04:45):
And we didn't know about this. It's an unfortunate part
of this media business that we have chosen to be in.
I mean, look at any national media company. There's been
layoffs all over the place, and unfortunately iHeartMedia hit by
those and I'm very sad to see Stan Northfleet ghosts unexpected.
And I'm saddened and well also tired, Matt. But we're
(05:05):
gonna make it look we have the greatest jobs on earth.
A little bit of the sleep deprivation last night, because
it didn't you know, I was obviously concerned about Stan
and where he's gonna do with his career. And and
then a Rockets the game last night, you know, started
thirty five minutes later than it normally does. Nice Rockets win. Yes,
and we'll play little musical montage later in the show
(05:27):
to on or some of those highlights. Let's go and
we'll be And I was concerned it wasn't gonna be mentioned.
Jalen Green high it's to the fourth quarter. Last night
he had a couple of clutch ones. So overall stat
line doesn't look great, but two freight from three yuck,
but two clutch ones in the fourth quarter. Thanks, all right,
So gut Feelings today, and if those of you that
are new to attend the noon So Gut Feelings is
a Scott segment we do every Tuesday. Were you just
calling him make sports predictions? Now? You could certainly make
(05:49):
a political prediction if you wanted to, But we don't
talk politics in the show, so I'll let Michael Berry
handle that part of it. I was going to ask
if you actually did what We're going to make a
gut feeling on what happens. And this is and again
for those of you who listen the show, we don't
ever talk politics. But I will say this with it
being an election day, huh, I really don't know. I'm fascinating,
You're not fascinating. I'm fascinated by the media coverage of
(06:11):
it circus it is. But and I'll be honest, I
have serious XM in my car, and I do have Fox,
CNN and MSNBC bam, bam bam. So the three channels
that I move my presets past, my music and of
course seven ninety are those channels. And I was just
flipping literally every five minutes coming into work today, and
(06:33):
everybody sees things completely differently on One network has it
one way, one network has another way, and one it's
I don't even know if when I was a younger
man going into college that I would have been able
to figure out the twenty five thirty years later, we
would have broadcast networks that can claim their journalism that
(06:56):
are so dimetrically opposite of each other. Like when I
was growing up, CNN was news polarizing, Yes it was.
Here's what's going on, Yes, here's the weather, here's the sports,
here's the uh going on? Here's the race? A race
b I mean, but it's it's not that anymore. So again,
(07:16):
I'm a consumer, not an enthusiast, but I'm a media
consumer of this stuff, and so today to me, to
me is fascinating. I will not be watching the election
returns until very late because my daughter's got a playof
volleyball game and so that kind of helps that a
little bit. Yeah, I'm running away as far as possible.
Our game, No, where is it? It's uh at Summer Creek?
I think where a humble? What time? Uh? Six o'clock?
(07:41):
How long do the games? Normally? An hour and a half.
Put me down as maybe, Okay, you're not coming, that's
that's my neck. I'll show up. Oh yeah, you know
what if Connor goes? Can we bring a cooler beer?
You're not allowed to bring alcohol too a high school? Okay?
Can we bring a pouch of wine? Can we tail
get outside. Yeah, can we tell you? I guess you could.
The weather's on. It is the weather gonna better by
(08:02):
litter today? Can we can we?
Speaker 2 (08:03):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (08:03):
I get a grill going cranks now, queens in that
case of beer.
Speaker 3 (08:06):
Now.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
We are pregaming today, So if you want to join
us with the pregame, you're walking. Yeah, Humble's Finest Restaurants
and the Chuck E Cheese off of nineteen sixty and
fifty nine or what city Humble? Uh, you have lots
of great restaurants, don't let Ross so oh the last
remaining ponchos My gosh, where is the finest dining in Umble, Texas?
I don't know. We're going to find out litter today.
(08:28):
I'm like literally gonna go to the movies or something.
I'm trying to disengage as much as possible from this
evening because all right, yeah, uh so we will be
with you for four hours every day. We're gonna bring
the energy because we're gonna drink lots of coffee. So
if you're a coffee company out there with like the
sponsor this radio show, oh please, we are right here.
Ross will handle the cole brew side of it. I'll
handle the warmer stuff. That wasn't bad. No, I was accurate.
(08:54):
I was just gonna say that get me in trouble.
I don't think it did. Uh Okay, So Rockets last
night take care of the Knicks one ninety seven, A
nice impression went over a good New York team that
has been beset by numerous injuries. We'll get to that
a little bit on the show today. Jonathan m Alexander
did in a really nice story today in the Houston
Chronicle about why he thinks the Texans will not be
(09:14):
active today. Is the NFL trade deadline. So we have
MLB free agency. Yes, we have the NFL trade deadline,
and we have the election and we have We're not
gonna talk about it. That's right. I can do that.
And with the Rockets winning last night against the New
York Knicks, so that's a radio program right there. And
we got people making trades that don't involve the Houston Texans. Correct,
(09:39):
Are there any huge uh like worthy of a breaking
news sounder? I wouldn't say necessarily. Cowboys traded a fourth
rounder for Jonathan Mingo, which, by the way, I do
need to make it up Carolina. Just like trade everybody off. Yeah,
what do you mean they're the Panthers. I mean they
beat the Saints this week, but they're in Selmo. The
Saints are terrible. They just fired their coach. Yeah, no
(10:00):
disrespect to Goady, but I do I have to make
a I have to make an apology. You were right.
I was wrong about when we come back. Oh. Now,
for those of you that are unfamiliar with the radio show,
Ross never thinks he's ever wrong about anything true, and
so this will be worthy of you listening to this
radio show coming out of the break because you do
absolutely want to find out what every day be. You
(10:22):
never admitted to me seven one three two one two
five seven ninety seven one three two one two five
seven ninety if you want to join our conversations today.
I believed yesterday we did something called to tell the truth.
I really think in my mind that Nick's gonna pull
something off to get something for in terms of a
potential uh offensive line depth and or wide receiver. And
(10:43):
Jonathan Alexander the Chronicle says otherwise. Seven one three two
one two five seven ninety. It is the Matt Thomas
Show with Ross. We're here till two o'clock this afternoon
right here on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 4 (10:55):
This is the Matt Thomas Show Matt Thomas on Sports
Talks an.
Speaker 1 (11:03):
This is the earliest of this show with you and
I have ever been together. We did in the Mornings
with Lands many years ago, but ten to two is
our new spot. This is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross.
If you're new to the ten o'clock hour with us,
thank you for being a part of the show. If
you know the show at all, we do love to
talk and interact with the audience. It's not just us
listen to ourselves talk for four hours in a row,
(11:24):
because I've listened to us, so we're not particularly entertaining,
but we're going to get you guys involved. So please
always feel like you've got an avenue to discuss anything
from Rockets to Astros, to free agency to the Texans
coming up with the Detroit Lions. On Friday seven one
three two one two five seven ninety seven one three
two one two five seven nine zero. Now, before the break,
(11:44):
you alluded to something that I was right on and
that you were wrong, or just that I was right both. Okay, uh.
I tried to last week downplay how good of a receiver.
DeAndre Hopkins still was. I thought he was washed done.
I thought it was a trade that was gonna maybe
work out for the Chiefs, but not make a huge impact.
And he was fantastic for the Chiefs last night. He
(12:07):
Travis Kelsey was catching everything. E if he's not gonna
get that open, he's still got great hands, He's still
a good receiver. And I mean a couple of touchdowns.
What did he have like seven eight grabs? I don't
remember the exact stat line. He is a difference maker
for them, like I think the Texans would like to
make a difference maker.
Speaker 3 (12:24):
Now.
Speaker 1 (12:24):
Again, the only receiver that's really out there that's left
if you really are worried about the receiving core for
the Texans is Adam Feeling. Other than that, everybody's basically
gone right. Uh yeah, there may be a couple other folks,
but that don't come right to me. Would that be
three receivers traded by the Panthers. So they traded Deontay
Johnson to the Ravens. They have now traded Jonathan Mingo
to the Cowboys, by the way, for a fourth rounder.
(12:47):
Jerry Jones, what are you doing? It's Jonathan Mingo possession
receiver at best, and yeah, Adam Thielen's like thirty three
years old, and he would be kind of a slot guy.
I mean, well, the thing of it is, if you
want to go get Adam Thielen, are you thinking to yourself?
Is he better than Hutchinson's slash? Metchi slash? Who am
(13:07):
I forgetting Robert Woods? Robert Woods? The answer to that
is yes, But at what price do you want to
give up to get a guy like that? Yeah? At
what price? And you like running Tank Dell well inside
or outside, but he would be primarily a slot guy,
so that would be probably Hutchinson on the outside. And
then Metchi, you're losing some of John Mechi production, which
(13:30):
I mean there hasn't been no John Mitchi production. So
all right, So again I brought up Jonathan m Alexander's article,
and he's a good follow on Twitter at John m Alexander.
I'll just say that his story was concerning to me
because again his lead headline was Texans don't and just
spent making any moves? And I'm like, oh why so then,
(13:53):
and his subject line and his chronicle story says, here's why.
First of all it sounds like to me. We played
the prescott for yesterday with Tamiko that he likes the
guys in the building. Now again, that could be one
thing publicly said, yeah, but probably mean another. But if
you don't make a deal today to go find another
offensive lineman, your public words are more private than anything
(14:16):
you can bark at inside the building. You don't make
a move than you are showing the audience your fan
base that you are happy with what's there. And I
can't imagine that to be the case. By the way,
three o'clock deadline today, accuoting Tomiko from yesterday. With Nick
and his staff, we're always looking to make our team
as good as we can possibly be. I do have
a heightened sense of making a move just to make
(14:37):
a move. The answer to that question was no, We're
always looking to add to our team, add to our depth.
That's something we do constantly throughout the year. Of course,
every NFL team does. That's why they bring in players
every Tuesday for workouts. That's not a typical of a
Texans team, or for that matter, any of the other
thirty one teams. Texans do not have a lot of
salary cap space. According to Jonathan and his story. Uh,
(15:00):
they already are going to lose a second round pick
in this next year's draft coming up because of the
Stefan Diggs trade. Yes, And the reality is I think
they think that Nico Collins comes back. He and Tank
Della are the one two punch and everybody else. And
why would you go trade for a number three receiver
(15:22):
when you're number one that could be coming back. If
not this week, certainly probably have perhaps a week after that,
and we'll know more about Nico when the team practices
starting tomorrow. Yeah, I think you add all that up.
It's Nico coming back, giving away draft capital, cat salary
cap restrictions, and and maybe nothing's going to happen, and
(15:42):
maybe there's nobody they love. You have to love somebody first.
You just can't make a deal just to make a deal, right,
I mean, look, Nikosia's on the phone. I'm sure of
course he is, But it is the is he finding
the right level of compensation give it away for what
he's going to get in return? That's another question. And
then of course with the with the NFL in the
hard cap, we don't know what kind of there's all
these weird cap rules about accelerating bonuses and whatever stuff
(16:07):
with contracts in the NFL, and you never know what
the hell's going on. So there's just a lot of
intricacies to this that even if there is no deal made,
that doesn't mean that Nick Cassario didn't try. No, he
wouldn't be doing his job if you didn't, And I
know that Nick doesn't liking get all thirty two general
managers on the phone constantly. Yes, there was a USA
Today article out this morning that does not have an
(16:28):
offensive lineman in their top ten trade targets. Other than
that means that the USA Today is determining what's good
to trade and what's not. But they were listing ten
players that may be still available for the trade deadline
today at three o'clock, and none of them involved an
offensive line. You also don't need a huge impact left guarded.
You need somebody to be replacement level because you've gotten
below replacement level play all year. So if you get
(16:49):
somebody that can at least hold the line a little bit,
that's a massive improvement from what you were getting from
Kenyon Green. I just put on there when I saw
on Alexander's story this morning, I said, this is a
good read, CJ. You don't want to read it. I'm
not trying to be flippant when I tell you this.
(17:11):
If CJ, and this is something that every single Textan
fan listen to our voice right now would completely agree with.
If CJ faces the same sort of pressure he faced
this week or last week against the Jets, he will
not survive the season. Now are better? Are there worst
defensive lines that they'll face over the course of the year. Yeah,
Tennessee doesn't provide much. There are some dogs still up
(17:32):
on the Textan schedule, but there's also some really good
teams coming up. And even if you have a below
average defensive line and below average front seven, they still
provide pressure. Every NFL team puts pressure on quarterbacks, some
better than others. There are some individual players that are
better than others. Ross he's not going to survive if
(17:54):
they continue to believe, and they may be are down
to four and a half hours here that the guys
that are currently in uniform are the ones that are
good enough to protect them the rest of the way.
It's not gonna end well. I think, yeah, they have
the way all the factors we talked about, but it's
not even I mean, you're gonna face the Lions have
DJ readers. I think they're good on the interior that
(18:15):
you're playing this week. You mentioned some of the teams,
but also like the teams that you want to beat
in the AFC, like Chris Jones and the Chiefs, and
I mean the Steelers are good with Cam Heyward and TJ. Watt.
Like if you want to make it anywhere in the AFC,
I think most of the best defenses in football, the Broncos,
the Chargers, the Chiefs, the Steelers, like they're in the AFC.
If you want to make it out of the AFC,
(18:37):
and that's that's the goal. That's the goal of Demiico Ryan.
So you want to do more than that. They do, absolutely,
that's the goal. If you want to make it out
of these playoffs, you have to be better on the line.
And that's either internal improvement, which I think is what
they're going to bank on and we'll see because we
weren't talking as much about all these pressures. It's been
really bad for these last three weeks. Yeah, the first
(18:59):
five weeks it was a little bit better. So if
they're saying, you know what, we got to get back
to basics. We got to do what we're doing early
on in the season and all that type of stuff
which I don't necessarily see, or maybe they see. It's
an addition by substraction with Kenny Green. I don't know,
but either way, we all know it has to get better.
It has to get better. And you cannot go into
the AFC playoffs because the AFC South is done. It's done.
(19:20):
You cannot go into the playoffs with the line playing
the way they are because you're gonna You're gonna wind
up be in the four seed in the playoffs. You're
gonna be the worst division record among the four teams,
which means you're gonna take on the best wild card
right yes, which right now I don't even know who
that is, But it doesn't matter if it's any one
of those teams I name. They all have really good defenses.
And again, even the worst teams in the NFL have
(19:42):
some sort of pass rush. This isn't a question of truth.
CJ's gonna take a seven step drag drop, have a sandwich,
cup of coffee, get on a zoom call, and then
throw the ball. He's gonna face pressure and the Texans
offensive line this year collectively have not been able to
handle it. Ten twenty seven. It is the Map Thomas
Show with Ross. We're with you till two o'clock this
afternoon seven one three two one two five seven ninety
(20:05):
seven one three two one two five seven ninety. We'll
talk to our buddy kJ next. We're going to get
to you as we take your calls all the whey
til two o'clock. Gut Feelings at eleven o'clock, and today's
edition to Believe or Not is back in at one
fifty today. It's kind of weird to have say that time.
It's been a while in this spot. Seven one three
two one two five seven ninety ten twenty seven. On
Sports Talk seven ninety seven one three two one two
(20:33):
five seven ninety it is the new time of the
Matt Thomas Show with Ross, and we're trying to figure
out when we're gonna do our some of our signature segments.
We'll have Gut Feelings coming up today at eleven o'clock.
Ross's NFL rewind the most interesting Things at eleven thirty,
and then we're gonna do something new every day at
twelve noon. It's called Me called something I really thought
hours over. I called it the News at Noon. I
(20:54):
love it. You know, if Louncal TV stations can call
them themselves the News at Noon, why can't we do it.
You're a fun ideas, Matt, and so appreciate you. The
News at Noon will be ninety sports, who one off
the beaten track? Story? Easy, easy peasy. He so Russell
choose three or four things.
Speaker 2 (21:11):
Ok.
Speaker 1 (21:11):
And then I'll be the one to have to comment
on these things, which is and I don't want to
know what these things are in advance. Okay, good kind
of as the spotan eighty of the segment. So we've
got the News at Noon at twelve before the NFL
rewinded before that, and we've got gut feelings. We'll still
to shut your by mess up. We will still do,
believe it or not. We'll have the Fantasy five occasionally,
(21:33):
we'll Fantasy five Quincy Jones projects. I'll go first thriller.
I'll go Sanford and Son theme. Ooh, I'll go off
the wall. I'll go back to back Michael Jackson. I'll
go anything that he did with Ray Charles, the Wiz, ooh,
the Whiz. You said you never saw the Whiz right, No,
I don't think so. I did. I need to watch it.
That must watch No, no, no, but it does. There
(21:56):
was I mean to see a young Michael Jackson Diana
Ross as though no she was, no, she was a Dorothy.
Oh she's Dorothy. Yeah, huh Nipsey Russell was. I believe
the tin man, don't hold me to that. I won't, okay.
And then a song is called E's On Down, E's
On down the Road. Mm hmm. That was a pretty
catch little tune back in the day. I loved the
(22:16):
Wisdow was great. I remember seeing it as a kid.
Wonderful all right, seven one three seven ninety kJ Withers
at ten thirty three on the Matt Thomas showed Ross kJ,
good morning to you, Lord and fellas.
Speaker 5 (22:27):
Has been a while man, due to schedule of conflicts
at Burg, I haven't been able to time in with
the two as much as I used to have. I
ticularly touch in with uh Ross on occasion. But uh,
just again, I love it so thank you. But there's
a million dollar question Matt and Ross. Uh Greg Moins
want to know. I know you said you're gonna have
to shuffle around, just get your segment scheduling because of
(22:48):
the addition of two hours. But this is the question,
Matt Thomas, fans want to know, are you going to
steal do the good morning strippers at twelve o'clock or
are you going to do it at ten o'clock because
you know, taking me on Fridays, they still sleep at
ten o'clock.
Speaker 2 (23:07):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (23:07):
Well, I said honestly that strippers never get up at
ten o'clock in the morning. So it will it will
always still be at fronting at twelve noon.
Speaker 5 (23:17):
Okay, cool, cool, cool. Now, this is my thing with
the Texas. I heard one of you guys mentioned earlier
that the offensive line was performing somewhat better the first
four or five games of the season. I don't think
it was necessarily good then. I think they had been
fully exposed to the extenss they've been exposed to now,
and now that the film is out on their vulnerabilities,
(23:39):
teams have taken full advantage of it. But this is
my this is my thing with the Texans of the
old line because again, this thing can the efficiencies of
the offensive line can filter into other aspects of the
game of the of the of the of the overall
player of the team as far as the psyche is concerned.
I know, from ethical standpoint, they get paid millions to
(24:00):
do a job. I get that, but just from a
human being standpoint, this can frustrate you to the point
to where it affects other aspects of the game. I
look at the offensive line, and again I don't know
where Shack Mason was drafted, but the majority, if not,
the offensive line, and it's entirey or second round, second
or third round picks or higher. So that means that
there was something seen tangibly in these guys when they
(24:23):
were taking and or re signed onto the Texas. Because
they're no longer Bill O'Brien, guys, I'm wondering if these
guys as a collective were thought to have this much
talent yet all of them are falling short, not one
or two. Could this be a schematic thing, because you
don't miss on that many up around draft picks and
have as a collective all of these guys coming short.
(24:45):
So I'm wondering if it's a sichematic thing. And my
question to you guys before I get off of here,
I know this was more or less a one and
done for Stefan Diggs and now that he's hurt, what
is the what do you guys think the likelihood is
of the Texans re signing them for team friendly deal
if because of his agent injury, he doesn't get a
lucrative deal in the market. I'm gonna sit back and.
Speaker 1 (25:06):
Thank you, all right, thank you for kenj I appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (25:09):
Well.
Speaker 1 (25:09):
I've been on the record. I don't think he comes
back under any circumstance you might be able to He
might be able to go a sweetheart friendly deal from
a writing different teams, doesn't mean the Texans want to
give him a sweetheart friendly deal. Has he been, relatively speaking,
a choir boy with the Texans? Has there been a
good relationship, Yes, but a lot of good guys ross
are good relationship guys, good teammates, team captains, and you're
(25:32):
coming off of severe injury and you're on the wrong
side of thirty. Unless the Texans just don't have any
other options, which they will obviously have options, I don't
think he's gonna get anything close to the kind of
money he thinks he's going to go get. So I
would think at this point, if I'm Stefan Diggs. I recoupering,
I recover, and I try to sell myself as hey,
I got still something left in the tank. I just
(25:54):
don't know if the Texans will be the team to
do it. Yeah, I mean it's possible. I wouldn't rule
it completely out because he One of the reasons they
mutually agreed to avoid out all of his contract is
that was Stefan Diggs betting on himself, saying I'm going
to have a smash year in twenty four and I'm
going to hit the market and I'm going to make
a bunch of money.
Speaker 3 (26:11):
Right.
Speaker 1 (26:11):
Well, obviously that didn't happen. So we've also seen Nick
Cassario be someone who likes to sign prove it deals
to guys who are veterans with something to prove and
towards the end of their career, and Stefan Diggs fits
that bill as well. So you have somebody coming off
(26:32):
a major injury that you could sign to a short
term if if Stefan Diggs thinks I need a one
year deal, that way, I can catapult myself to a
bigger deal. But he's going to be a year older
coming off in an ACL injury, so I don't know
how realistic that is for the types of players. The
types of players you just described on the prove it
deal are usually just guys. They are extra linebackers. They
(26:58):
are defensive linemen that have had a handful of games teams.
I don't mean to stare up type on this, but
I'm going to do it. Wide receivers are a different breed.
Wide receivers are guys that think they are still the
alpha dogs. They can still run these routes. They can
still run down the field catch everything that's thrown towards them.
I think the types of players that Nick Casara brought
in in the first couple of years when he was
(27:19):
a general manager were players that were just looking to
prove themselves or on the wrong side of thirty, that
had had no suctaining success and said, Hey, I'm gonna
go to Houston for a couple of years prove that
I'm worthy, like Grugierry Hill kind of guys like that.
Hm stefan Dis has had a very very successful NFL tenure.
(27:40):
I think him taking a I got to prove it
to other people kind of deal to stay in Houston
is not in his repertoire unless the market dictates. It says,
you know what, Stefan, You've got nowhere else to go.
If you want to play in the NFL in twenty
twenty five, you will take a team friendly deal in Houston. Now, again,
as much as he loved Houston, as compared to if
all of a sudden, let's say Sincinnattie was to get
(28:01):
rid of T Higgins and they brought him in on
a contract that maybe paid him double or triple that
he would be paid here. Uh yeah, I don't know
those answers. Yeah, well that was before Nick Cassario's tenure.
But Taran Matthew was somebody that was signed to a
prove it deal here and then went on to sign
a bigger deal somewhere else. Denzel Perryman that Nick Casario
did sign to a one year deal and was a
(28:21):
proven deal and then he went on. Cashman would be
an example. Yeah, I mean that was I think did
they trade for Blake Cashman? I can't remember. But those
types of ILKA players are not not the headliners. These
are second tier guys looking to reinvent them. Perryman had
been a pro bowler, so I mean he he had
a pretty good NFL career. But that's just off the
top of my head. I don't know. We can go
through every Nick Cassario transaction and maybe find those guys.
(28:43):
But the bottom line is Nick Asario likes signing one
year proven deals. So if that is becomes the case
with Stefan Diggs, I could see it happening. Yeah, I
will go on the record and say that it will
not happen that we got you put your name on it. Yeah,
I just it's it's not it's it's Stefan Diggs. It's
(29:04):
it's not just your run of the mill receiver that's heard.
It's it's Stefan Diggs.
Speaker 6 (29:09):
Ug go.
Speaker 1 (29:12):
Alf doesn't have a problem here. They loved him here,
they voted him captain. But again, it's it's who he is.
I look, I don't take one year of Stefan Diggs
and say he's a completely changed man. I think I
know who Stefan Diggs is. Stefan Now again, it's not
gonna be about what he wants. It's with a dictate.
The market dictates exactly if if he can't get a
big if if these two things happen, which are possible,
(29:32):
if Stefan Diggs has these quite quite frankly delusions that
he is the number one receiver and going to get
a big deal and he needs a one year, proven deal.
He would sign here, and Nick Casari would probably happily
do it. But if Stefan Diggs may be a little
more realistic and say I need to take a multi
year deal at less money somewhere, then I think that
actually lessens his chances of coming back. Yeah, I again,
(29:54):
strictly I got that. I think his days are as.
I don't even know if the Texans would be so
much interested. Is again, when when you reduce a contract
when you had three years off and down to one,
that was kind of indicating. That was done by Cassirio
over to say, you know we're gonna go all in.
Does it work, We're moving on. Yes, I know injuries
don't aren't fair, but it didn't work. You got hurt.
(30:18):
It can't work if you're not playing. Not his fault,
them's the breaks. But it had to work if he's
playing in mediful games in January. Yeah, at this moment
they wasted or now after the injury, they wasted a
second round pick. Yeah, let's go to Jacob on the
north side. At ten forty one on seven, Oney Jacob,
good afternoon or good morning? All right, Hey, all you
(30:39):
gotta do is get healthy.
Speaker 7 (30:40):
Man, he gonna get th gunny because his hands, He's
gonna get another opportunity and no.
Speaker 3 (30:44):
Doubt, just like d Hop they thought the hot was done.
Speaker 7 (30:47):
Hop the guy if you can play, if you can
play their position, you could play it. You don't forget
how to lose it because your leg you get injured.
But with with the Texans, all right, this is a
man the coach second first, second year, what first year?
First of all, his first year he came in and
he won. He won his particular division. Here in the
second year, he leading his division. There's not too many
(31:09):
coaches you name them, came in and their first year
ever and won a division. Second year ever lead a division.
It's not like you just come in and you're gonna
go to the super Bowl. The Texas was losing. They
got zero. They have zero championships in their existence. He
bringing a winning attitude and I think they got enough
(31:32):
offensive line. They it's not like you can get okay,
we don't trade for offense. And like a Rode receiver
with a Rod receiver, they could just run out running,
you know the usual routes where.
Speaker 1 (31:42):
They gotta know the schemes and this and that.
Speaker 7 (31:43):
So it's not like, okay, yeah he's the top old lineman.
We're gonna pick plug the man. He gonna know the
schemes and then we're gonna take off. They got they
got guys on the practice squad. They're gonna be good.
They six and three win in their division is not
some easy task. So I think they're on the right path.
And the owner know that they've been having to lose
an organization. They starting to win and they're gonna be
(32:05):
This is gonna be okay.
Speaker 1 (32:07):
I thanks Chacking for the phone call. I don't share
that optimism, and you know what Ross and this. You
may disgree with me on this, and that's fine. I
don't think CJ shares that optimism. I think CJ is
showing little signs of frustration of I know pressure comes,
it's part of the game. But his accuracy numbers have
(32:29):
dropped considered the last couple of weeks. He's having his
worst little mini stretch of his young NFL career, and
I don't think it's because he's lost anything off his
fastball I think I think he is every bit as
good as he was last year. He's feeling the heat,
he's feeling the pressure, and I think I think frustration
can grow. And I think he's doing the right thing
by saying it's just as much me about anybody else.
But that's what quarterbacks are supposed to say. Yeah, I don't,
(32:51):
I can't. I don't know what CJ. Stroud is thinking.
I don't think that he's Yeah, I don't think he's
losing face in the organization. I think he believes in
his guys, I know, especially out of Kenyon greens Down.
I think he knows that he has to play better himself.
He is missing something. But if we called CJ right now,
okay and said CJ. Nick is not going to get
(33:12):
you an extra alignment to add depth to this offensive line,
you think you'd be okay with that? He would say,
all right, that's fine. We got to roll with the
guys we got. I gotta be better, no excuses, and
please use a warmest bachelot when you scoop me off
the turf. Hmm, like oil it up like a oil. Yeah.
(33:33):
I don't like it. I think Texans fans don't like
it either. And here's the problem. Okay, you just here,
here's the biggest thing that Casiro's gonna have to fight.
There just probably isn't an all pro left guard sitting
around going, I'll come in and help a right guard.
Whatever the that's the thing. And then I mean, I'm
gonna imagine the prices if if really Jonathan Mingo was
(33:55):
just traded for a fourth rounder, that's that's steep. And
so if the price is they're going to be too
high for Nickosario. I understand him not wanting to mortgage
the future and saying we have guys in house who
are going to get better. You're already probably better with
Kenyan Green going. But it's still a rossing And again
I'm saying I feel like I'm talking on both sides
my mouth here. It still feels like, uh, what's the
(34:21):
opposite of proactive not reactive? Just standing pat just doesn't
feel like the right thing to do. It just doesn't.
I don't know why. I don't know. Stagnant. Yeah, yeah,
well I know. But also it wasn't just a Jets game.
It was It's been this entire yea in particular, and
(34:42):
I don't know, maybe and Honestly, he might be in
a no win situation and I can fully accept that.
But I can guarantee you that the novice or even
the hardcore Texan fan, if if he faces serious pressure
this week and the Troy got another guy in their
trade deadline just just yesterday, thing, yes they did, they
got the They got a d N from the Brown Zidarius.
(35:03):
This is Smith, Zidarius Smith.
Speaker 2 (35:05):
What was it?
Speaker 1 (35:06):
Yeah, something whatever. But point being is, if CJ has
a similar area, he's constantly facing the hurries and pressures
that he faced last week, the organization is gonna get
called on the carpet for saying that. Just like in
the Astros, when the Astros don't make moves, people say, well,
what is Dana Brown doing? What is James Click doing?
What is Jeff Leonoe doing?
Speaker 2 (35:24):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 1 (35:25):
You're close. You're as close as you have been in
a long time. There isn't one lineman out there in
these on these NFL streets that could potentially get you
over the top, not over the top, but at least
make you feel a little bit better about the situation. Also,
speaking of the Astros, what happened they traded for the
Yusai Kakuchi and it was a firestorm and everybody hated
and it was the worst trade in the history. Brown
(35:46):
is a tummy and Dan Brown is the worst general
manager ever. And maybe sometimes these guys know more than
we do. But at least they did something, Yes they did.
And again, if if Kenyon Green, if you're telling me
it's Kenyon Green out and Jared Patterson in, they should
be better. But Jared Patterson's far from an All Pro.
He's a swing guy, right, But if it's gonna cost
him a second or third round pick to get in
All Pro, there, well, I don't think it. May don't know,
(36:08):
I don't suggest. No, there's no second round picks going
for swing lineman. There's that's just not gonna happen. That's
fourth round or just went for Jonathan Mingos, also Jerry Drew.
But eighty percent of the trades have been evolving fifth, sixth,
and seventh round picks. If you look at it, ten
forty seven, it is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross
with you today until two o'clock seven one three two
one two five seven ninety seven one three two one
(36:29):
two five seven ninety Rockets got a nice win last night.
Against the Knicks. We'll discuss that next here on seven ninety.
Speaker 4 (36:36):
Matt Thomas returns on Sports Talk seven ninety on.
Speaker 1 (37:00):
The baseline, goes into.
Speaker 8 (37:02):
Women, Thompson back out chaling straight on three. Yes, huge
three pointer for Jailing Greed. That's its first one in
seven tries. Ninety eight ninety two Rockets.
Speaker 1 (37:17):
He had two threes in the fourth eight points overall.
Uh And man, I was glad that Jailing woke up
because it would have been a second straight game. And
I don't believe that the twitter streets on Rockets would
have been particularly kind to our favorite off guard for
the Houston Rockets. Rockets win last night over the New
York Knicks. As we continue here the Matt Thomas Show.
(37:38):
For those of you just joining us, we are now
ten to two weekdays here on Sports Talk seven ninety.
All of our favorite segments still around, all the conversation
as we continue to be and I'd probably say this,
I feel like we are the most It's always a
cliche turn with the most interactive radio show, but it's true, man,
but it is. But it is literally the truth. A
lot of times cliches are there because they're true. Yeah, Okay,
(38:00):
I'll respect taking it one game at a time. It's true,
you should take it one game at a time. We're
gonna take our show one show to one segment at
a time. We've got gut fillings coming up at eleven o'clock.
Normally we do those at one. It's like we're on
West Coast time. Now, that's just how you have to
think about it when you go West Coast with the Rockets.
By the way, it'll be eight to noon. I'll have
(38:22):
lunch before a game. I can tell you that's true. Well,
you get a nap, that's more important. Yet, I'll load
a room services to go take a nap. Yeah, all right,
So the Rockets take care of the next. Last night,
one O nine to ninety seven, uh Nicks played eight players,
of which one played five minutes. The other seven combined
to play like well all the starters. Two of the
(38:43):
five starters, Michail Bridges and Jalen Brunston each had forty minutes,
and then Ojannernobi almost had forty by himself. Rockets get
a victory and reach Ever played his best game career
high seven points for him. Rockets got a good performance
out of alb twenty five points, fourteen rebounds, five assists,
four blocks in the game. Wow Rocket. Matter of fact,
the Rockets had six blocks collectively as a group had
(39:06):
a fifteen points second quarter lead. New York tried to
come back four lead changes very early in the contest,
but the Rockets were able to outscore the Knicks in
the fourth quarter twenty eight to twenty two to even
their mark on the year. And now we'll have the
San Antornial Spurs in tomorrow night. You did not mention
somebody who I would could argue was the MVP of
that game, Aman Thompson. Yes, did you see? I mean
(39:30):
you saw it. I was gonna say, have you ever
said did you see this?
Speaker 2 (39:33):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (39:33):
And if I didn't, be guse like, I know you
saw it. But did you see he was locking up
Jalen Brunston. Yeah, he was locking him up. And we're
talking about one of the great perimeter scores in this league. Yeah,
passing and driving. He was shutting him down with his
length and positioning intelligence. It was awesome. A man is
(39:55):
going to be a player that I think Rocket fans
are going to just the issue is gonna be does
the perimeter shot ever become respectable. It's showing a little
bit of signs he knows where his strengths are, certainly
not at the three point line. He's letting him go
from the corner, which I think it feels like that
he's got the green line from the corner. Everywhere else.
They're like, it's the easy amount. But in theory, the
(40:17):
metrics say it's the easiest three point shot. Yes, how
about the past fake middle of the lane fundamentals? Oh,
seven grade basketball, old fake fundamentals. Maybe let's go good so,
uh but yeah, a nice win for the Rockets last night.
Didn't get a great night from Jalen five of sixteen,
two of eight from three, but again, eight of those
(40:37):
fifteen points he had in the fourth quarter. Van Vliet
was really hot early, made his first four shots. He
finished eight of thirteen for the game. Dylan Brooks had
some threes as well. It was good get any more
of those, and uh So, overall it's been you know, again,
like five hundred now or maybe game four three? Okay,
(40:57):
four and three you do on pace, Yeah, but you
had about forty eight seven forty eight wins somewhere in
that range. Also, they were zero and three in games
that I worked so oh really, now they're one in three. Yes,
I did listen to the show last night. Oh well
you're the one. Well I got one call. I felt
like it was worthy. If you're going to take the
time to do it, take the time. De Lusia appreciate that,
(41:19):
and you also want to know. But behind the curtain,
I was kind of distracted in my opening monologue because
I was praying that Patrick Mahomes didn't score a touchdown
so I could lose it a fantasy game. I know
I won by three points. Despite the fact that Travis
Kelty the Toros have won two straight, I still despise
fantasy sports. Come on, we need you in the league.
I'm no. I went from tenth place to seventh last night.
You're looking good, Maddie. Toros are charging up the standings.
(41:42):
For those of you who don't know, I've given up
on fantasy football last year. Like the twenty twenty four Astros,
you started off in a rut. But now you're making
your charge. You're making your move. So did you bury
me or no? No, we didn't make a twenty twenty
four Astro. Five Okay, so five, we didn't put a
gravestone on the Toro to just catch you all right,
one hour of the books. We've got three more to go.
(42:02):
We are going down from ten to two here on
Sports Talk seven ninety seven one three two one two
five seven ninety. If it's the way you can reach
us on this show today when we come back, and
we'll introduce the segment to those eleven o'clockers that don't
know what we do. It's called gut Feelings. This is
where you literally call in with a prediction about anything
sports related. If you hit, you call us back in
the future weeks and brag about it. If you're wrong,
(42:25):
We typically don't make fun of you. Typically now, okas
you might seven one three two one two five seven
ninety Gut Feelings next on seven ninety lunchtimers. This is
the Matt Thomas Show. Listen up all segment.
Speaker 8 (42:42):
So appeal, wasn't that Thomas?
Speaker 1 (42:44):
You'll like, got a gut feeling? This is their gut
feeling on the Matt Thomas Show. All right, this is
how it works. By the way, you're like, worre's uh,
why are you guys starting sorly? We started at ten
o'clock and we used to go every day until two
there was a programming change, our reduction workforce in our
parent company. We wish stand nothing but the very best.
We UH enjoyed our time with him.
Speaker 9 (43:06):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (43:06):
And now because station has asked, we are now in
the ten to two slot here every day, five days
a week Sports Talk seven ninety ross. It is time
for us to do a sement we used to do
every Tuesday at one o'clock. We're gonna do it at
eleven o'clock. And well, like I said, some of our segments,
we're going to figure out good times where we have
the NFL rewind at the bottom of the hour, yes,
(43:27):
which I'm sure we'll include lot of the Tampa Bay
Kansas City game from yesterday. Oh huge. Then we have
today at the news at noon where you'll find four
sports headlines over thereabouts and maybe one non sports headline. Okay,
and you will throw things at me, and I'll have
to come up with witty rip oartie responses to your questions. Lovely,
she'd be great, all right, gut feelings you call seven
(43:47):
one three two one two five seven ninety seven one
three two one two five seven nine zero, you make
a sports prediction, you hit it right. You called us back.
You get it wrong. Don't worry about it now. Ross.
You always keep track of how our do we do
on our gut feelings? How did we do last week? Yeah?
But I guess I don't always do a great job.
I only wrote for you that the Texans will lose
(44:10):
and they and the Texans the under take the under yep,
I had that. Did you do anything else? Do you remember?
Speaker 3 (44:15):
Well?
Speaker 1 (44:15):
That's all I wrote down for you. Sorry, Let's see.
I wrote that the Texans lose to the Jets nineteen
to sixteen. Yeah, not bad, kind of close. Yeah. I
had the Rockets in their next three games against Dallas,
Golden State, and the Knicks two and one, one and two.
Speaker 3 (44:35):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (44:35):
I'm glad you're wrong those things too.
Speaker 2 (44:37):
Glad.
Speaker 1 (44:37):
I'm happy to be wrong on that for sure. For sure,
I thought it might not go well for them the
way that they were showing early on in the season.
But a huge win at Dallas and a nice win
against the Knicks yesterday. Connor mcgovernor had Joe Mixon getting
a touchdown, which I believe he did, and he also
had a Tank Dell touchdown that did not happen. He
had Dalton Schultz over fifty yards. He had three catches
(45:00):
for like twenty one yards or something like that. Yeah,
it was basically Tank Dell and nobody else on that
Dell show. Tank Dell was great and then everybody else.
Let's get an ego back this week, please, And he
had the Texans winning twenty three to seventeen. Unfortunately, what
was it, twenty three to thirteen? They could have won
that game. The Jets tried to hand it to him
over and over and over again and they lost. Yeah, terrible,
(45:24):
all right, So again we don't ever brag in our
gut feelings. Well, that's actually not true. As soon as
I hit one, I go to Twitter immediately and put
it up there. So I'm feeling good about my one
from two weeks ago. Oh, by the way, I had
Dodgers in five remember that one?
Speaker 3 (45:35):
That was That was it?
Speaker 1 (45:36):
That was an awesome one. I was very proud of that.
We're proud of you, Matt. And two weeks ago I
did have Jalen Green put my name on it. Best
offensive season of his career. So and he's on the
team in four times so far, five out of six,
five out of six. No, No, you're right, right, sorry
now four out of six, seven, five out of seven,
five out of seventh. Final answer, are you sure? Yes? Okay,
(46:00):
I think it's four to seven, but don't help me
to it. Last night I was outing, I don't want
to bet you live time full of a bet. Ross,
it's just not you don't have to gamble. Let's go.
I don't like to gamble on everything, all right. I
would bet you on when the light's gonna turn green.
I don't care. You know it's funny because Ross and
I will go to a sports bar during NCAA tournament
and we will bet on free throws. Yes, we will
(46:21):
bet on what commercials coming up next to the category.
That's always a fun one. I'll tell you that probably
the dumbest bet I ever made, but I don't regret.
It was me and my brother were arguing about how
bad the service was from a waiter, and we bet
over under how many minutes it would be before she
came back. See, I think that's not dumb. I think
that's actually interesting. You're reinventing new ways to make prop bets.
This was that eight muckers in Austin and I won.
(46:43):
What did you win? You by a round? Or some
I don't remember what the bet Okay, it might have
been twenty bucks. I do like the one I've never
done this before when Kramer on Seinfeld was in the
lounge at the airport and they were betting on when
flights are coming in. Yeah, that's good. That's actually a
pretty good one seven one three two five seven ninety
seven one three two one two five seven. I here's
(47:05):
my political gut feeling for today. Oh gosh, this show
tomorrow morning begins at ten o'clock. We will not know
who the president is president elect by tomorrow. Okay, so
we're gonna go. We'll be counting, yes, Okay, we will
not have a president elect tomorrow at tenna. Hanging chads though, right,
they're gonna be hanging chads, and most of them stay
it's electronic. Yeah, most are, not all, but most are. Okay,
(47:27):
hold on. Election not decided by tomorrow, Tenna. Ya, good god?
What did you drag it out for like three days
last time? It depends on yeah, four five days in
some respects. Yeah, it's just to be too close. I
think I think Canada A is going to be candidate
B fifty point one to forty nine point nine. That's
just me. Okay. My good feeling is the candidate you're
supporting deserved to win the election. I think that's a
(47:49):
good one. You're gonna probably hit that one pretty nicely.
Speaker 6 (47:52):
All right.
Speaker 1 (47:52):
As far as sports predictions are concerned, do not hate
me on this. I might Texans lose by double digits
this week. What I know you're gonna be mad at me. No,
I'm not mad at you. It's the freaking Lions. Why
is the line only three and a half? It's one
(48:13):
of those what am I missing? Lines? And you know what, fine,
I got a gut feeling for you. Now. Anytime this
always happens, there's a what am I missing? This line
is so mispriced it ends up going in the other way.
So Texans cover the three and a half? What's up, maddie?
Do they win? Texans cover the three? Give me the
(48:37):
three all day. It's not a lot of the week.
It's a gut feeling on a Tuesday.
Speaker 2 (48:42):
All right.
Speaker 1 (48:42):
I'm gonna ask one more time and then if you
want to move on to something else, do the Texans?
You say they cover the three and a half? Do
they win? Texans cover?
Speaker 3 (48:52):
All? Right?
Speaker 1 (48:52):
The three and a half so you're assuming it's gonna
be very close game. I'm trying to convince myself. Well,
I mean, Jared golf can throw three interceptions, there's no
recent wy things. One of the he's been like the
most accurate quarterback on the planet. I mean, granted, he's
got two good running backs the bench, offensive line football
that doesn't give up sacks. If you try to blitz them,
(49:13):
then aman Ross Saint Brown is getting ten twelve catches.
If you don't blitz them, then then he's running down
the field, and as is Jameson Williams Williamson, who's coming back,
Jameson Williams Williams, Jameson Williams and got one of the
best patching past catching tight ends in the league. Sandla Porta. Yeah,
running backs that can move Montgomery, not Montgomery. Oh, it's
(49:34):
made David Montgomery, isn't it. They've got the Texans scoring points.
This is a forty nine and a half total. Oh
I don't think the Texans. Well, I could said forty
nine and a half thirty four to twenty four. Yeah,
that's the Lions in the over. Okay, can I tell
(49:55):
a real story here real quick? So yesterday we're doing
the show and my in law is at Beau Ravage,
cousin in law, cousin in law bel Revolge, that's a casino.
And he texted me and he says, hey, call your guy.
I need some picks to bed at at the casino.
And I said, I didn't want to tell him. It's
but I didn't have a guy. Yeah. I don't know
(50:17):
why he thought I had a guy. You he used
to have guys on used to But I'm not going
to reach out. So I gave him my own picks, okay.
I gave him Bucks plus the six that's Milwaukee Bucks, okay.
And I didn't realize shortly after that Giannis was not
playing in that game. I gave him Buccaneers plus six
(50:38):
and a half and the over. Ooh, so I had
all three? Uh oh because Buccaneers covered the six because
of the overtime yes and the Bucks without Giannis only
lost by two points of the Cavaliers yesterday. As somebody
who has witnessed this with my own eyes, you are
a lucky some bitch when it comes to sports betting
(50:59):
and randomly picking picks out of your ass. Out of
your ass completely, I will say it. You hit like
eighty percent. It's ridiculous if I give it a thing,
telling you if it's a loss. If you are walking
in a sports book and you see Matt Thomas and
tell it, the more research he does, the worse his pick.
So Matt does zero research on a pick, and he
(51:21):
didn't even know Jannis was playing. That's what I'm talking about.
I've seen it with my own eyes. He hits parlays,
he hits picks'iculous first five innings. It's honestly, it's it's incredible,
Like I'll have guardians rolls over in the first five
I don't know who the pictures are, day off or
not break up, he doesn't know the X slug in
the lineup, none of that, and it hits. It hits eight.
(51:45):
So that's the reason why I'm going to be in
Detroit on Saturday for the Rockets. We're gonna get there
probably late afternoon. I'm going right to the MGM. Yes,
and I'm gonna beound a bunch of West Coast football
games and not give two blanks who's playing. What it is,
just look at the line and probably do based oneography.
And if I've been to that airport before, if you
try to give like thoughtful analysis. If you make the
pick on air, it's got no chance. If you make
(52:07):
it in a book randomly, it's eighty percent eighty percent minimum.
And it's funny you the picks you get right are
the ones you've never been on. You give to your buddies.
So there you haven't all right? Uh yeah, I think that.
I think the I'm thinking about this. I think The
Lions was new tailors. I mean, I guess you know
what I could do walking bets. That's going to be
a jiggle. We don't want to see. That's fair. Seven
(52:32):
one three two one two five seven, Honty, we'll have
more of our gut feeling is coming up in just
a couple of seconds, if you will like to get
your gut feeling in. I have not checked on Taylor.
She did, okay, I think she's back on those Twitter
streets again. You don't lie. You've checked on her six
times since the show started. Okay, maybe that's accurate, but
I didn't want to come across that way. Seven one
three two one two five seven ninety seven one three

Speaker 4 (54:00):
The Matt Thomas Show continues on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 10 (54:06):
Rousing that Thomas, Yo, they got a gut feeling.
Speaker 1 (54:09):
Lunchtimers.
Speaker 4 (54:10):
Gut feelings continue now on the Matt Thomas Show.
Speaker 1 (54:14):
All Right seven one three two one two seven seven
one three two two five seven niney if you have
any gut feelings. I had the Texans losing by ten
this week. I'm gonna feel better about them going to Dallas.
Though Dallas is imploding, I ain't scared about the Cowboys.
Dak's not playing. Look rough times ahead. We knew this
would be a tough part of the Texan schedule. So
(54:35):
it's just you know, six and four still good. You
can win the AMC South. You probably just gonna settle
for the fourth best spot in the West the AFC playoffs.
I wonder if we'll see a friend of the show,
Trey Lance, in that game. You put your name on
it a while ago, and so far you're good that
he is gonna He is a bust and will never
have any kind of NFL career, that is correct, but
(54:58):
he'll he'll probably play before the end of the year.
Oh and I think I think Zion went. Speaking of that,
I think Zion Wimson's been having hamstring issues, so you
might be good there too, Is he really? I think so.
For those who don't know, I've always ross and I
have argued about Zion Williamson's health. You said he would
never ever play seventy games in a season, and he
played seventy last year. Yeah, but that was that was
(55:18):
the extra playing game. So that was a very technical
if you know what, we gotta check the tay. If
you want that one, you can have it. Uh. Yeah,
I think he Yeah, I think he didn't play. He's
got hamstrings. Also, don't just go away, Nope, Nope, Nico Collins,
especially when not in great shape. Now Nico's in good shape. No,
(55:39):
Apparently Zion lost a lot of weight this off season
and he's like in the best shape of his life. Well,
there's also training camp dining table too. Some people are
playing themselves into the shape, like alprin Chington. All right, Uh, Connor,
what are your predictions on this week's edition of Gut Feelings. Oh,
that's right, we didn't get Connor. That's rude. We gotta
make sure game involved. I appreciate it, thank you.
Speaker 11 (55:59):
I'll be over twenty points against the Spurs On Wednesday,
he was held against Wemby.
Speaker 1 (56:04):
Okay, I got you.
Speaker 11 (56:05):
He had twelve and six last time they played. So yeah,
but he's gonna have a breakout like he did last season.
Speaker 1 (56:11):
Well, I would be nobody. Forty five on his head.
Well I would say this. I would be impressed with
your prediction. But the problem is last year he played
against Wemby three times and average twenty eight points per
game in those three. Well, it's forty five at one
though in one of those games? What are the others do?
The math man? What was the other?
Speaker 12 (56:25):
Twam?
Speaker 1 (56:25):
No, no, I'm not doing it. Okay, So I'm sorry.
What did you say, Connor? Twenty points? Twenty points? Say?
And then Nico Collins does not play against the Lions?
Speaker 3 (56:34):
You know what?
Speaker 1 (56:35):
I will join you on that. It just it didn't
sound like Demiko was overly optimistic. When you when you
want to come out of a press camrace on Monday
saying yeah, we're gonna be fine. Demiko's I mean Nico's
coming back. He was very much of the we're gonna
or wait and see mode.
Speaker 11 (56:49):
I think Will Anderson will play, but not Nico okay, okay,
and Dalon Schultz will get his first touchdown of the year.
Speaker 1 (56:56):
You are on team Dalton love it, I love it
plays college football to Missouri or something, or if he
says it every week, it's got to come true at
some point. Exactly.
Speaker 11 (57:05):
I didn't say it last week, but I said for
his first touchdown of the season this week.
Speaker 1 (57:09):
It's the line. Okay. Is there a Houston athlete that
you can remember off the top of your head, either
one of you that you just kept saying it's going
to break through and be something special and just never did.
Like your your love for Dalton Schultz is at some
point uncomfortable. Uh, you keep predicting these great things. Is
there anybody else that you've like he's going to break through? Now?
I did have Jake Myers. I did have Drake here,
(57:30):
you are the president of the Jake Myris Fan Club.
I give you that he broke through for a month.
His May was good. The other five months weren't so hot.
But I never really thought he's gonna be an All star.
I just thought he was going to be a good
everyday player. He was a gold Glowe finalist. Help me,
I you know, mean better than me? Sometimes give me
somebody that I've been pushing that just never ever did
Isaiah Hartenstein. Isaiah Hartenstein turned out to get a hilatiously
(57:52):
big contract with Localhoma City. But I wasn't one of
those guys on him. Uh, who was? Who have I been?
Russell Westbrook? I'm just kidding. I don't know. I didn't
think John wall would be that big of it. They're
just mostly a hater. So, I mean, I can't think
of anybody you believed in. So that's pretty tough. Oh,
I said, hmmm, I can tell you I can rattle
(58:12):
off fifty people you didn't believe in that was probably
right forty five times wrong five still a pretty good percentage.
I'll think I'll think of somebody that I that I've
been such a fan of that let me down. Oh, okay,
I'll give you one. I keep trying Cabbage well. Uh
will Levis, Oh, will Levis is good. Thomas Sports Enterprise
and Ross slightly bullish on will Levis, TSC's biggest hit
(58:35):
of Dak Prescott looking a little shaky. It is, although
if we're looking for potential income, he's doing quite well.
For Joel doing very well. Ts declared him a peronneal
pro bowler. That's right. What about that tight end too?
That was the first round pick Brock Yeah, Brock Perry
was dominating with the rate is yeah. Thomas Sports Enterprizes
generally speaking of a good good year. Last year not
so hot. I mean Joelt was like the first tackle
(58:58):
off the board and went like fifth.
Speaker 2 (58:59):
Is that?
Speaker 4 (58:59):
Like?
Speaker 5 (59:00):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (59:00):
Should I be bragging about that? Probably not?
Speaker 2 (59:02):
All right?
Speaker 1 (59:02):
Seven one three five hours ago, and there was people
doubting rock Bowers, including myself. Yeah, she's been really good.
Last call seven one three two one two five seven
nine zero seven one three two one two five seven
to eight of any other predictions, I do go ahead
under forty nine and a half Texans Lions. By the way,
the latest Super Bowl odds are out for the winner
of the Super Bowl Winner just winner. Okay, Texans went
(59:25):
from fourteen to one to twenty two to one. Ooh,
I might as get down on them to win the thing. Yeah,
it's funny because you know what, you may be right.
It may be harder win the AFC Championship than it
will be to win the world's the Super Bowl. While they, well,
the Lions. If it's not the Lions, I feel pretty
good if it is the Lion's gonna be tough, they'll
be dogs. Texans went from six and a half to
(59:47):
one on the twenty ninth of October to win the AFC.
They are now twelve to one to win the AFC.
They are going their numbers way up. I got them
in the off season at twenty seven to one, and
you had that ticket. You know, there's a part of
me wants you to get that's just when the AFC. Right, No, oh,
well you're not cashing. Well if they make the Super
Bowl aheadge oh, you're going to win like seven hourd bucks?
(01:00:10):
Did they win? Wait, Maitte, you put a ticket in
at twenty seven to one, so you bet what twenty
five bucks somewhere at twenty seven? Actually okay, it was
what's left. It was the balance left over in the kiosk.
I was at the betting kiosk at the math means
mortzmook and you don't have to rhyme the molden at
the molden mugget. It got much better, And I was like,
(01:00:32):
you know what, bleep it? I maybe I had had few.
I was like, all right, Texas and went so basically,
I do this sober when I make these grandiose picks,
you have to have alcohol infuse in your body to
make that happen. I told the story, I thought, because
then the machine ran out of paper, no I at all.
I had to get the lady till I was waiting.
(01:00:53):
I had to go all the way to the Mortsmook
and you don't have to rhyme sportsbook. And then the
danager of the Mortsmook, Oh my gosh, and she was
and I brought her over there and she's like, what
was your bet? I was like, Texans to war the
super Bowl?
Speaker 2 (01:01:08):
She like that.
Speaker 1 (01:01:09):
She gave me the biggest side eye, like what that
way minute that looked there are side I bet you
could make. The Texans winning the super Bowl is not
a side It was like in January before they traded
for steph On Diggs as well. She was like, what, well,
the only reason why you get a sid eye is
if if everybody in America thought Kansasity was going to
repeat is another She had to like write down the
bet number. We had to go. But it was a
(01:01:29):
whole ordeal. Whole ordeal. I'll say the only thing about
the negative about the sports book there is that the
tickets are like four and a half pages, So when
do they run out of paper? Those things are They're
like CVS receipts. Yeah, yeah, ridiculous. By the way, percentage
of time you use a CVS coupon off those receipts,
I'm not gonna say zero, Maybe I've done it once.
Maybe I'm gonna say about ten percent of the time. Okay,
(01:01:51):
I'm gonna say Candy Green cards say two percent and
buy one. I asked to get one free. Kind of thing.
It does to work out its itself. Yeah, ever, occasionally
get on seven ninety biscuit. What is in your gut
this week? My man?
Speaker 9 (01:02:03):
Cougar Max Cougar, Matt Hey man, uh cougar Man. I'm
gonna call it. I called it last year, early, and
I'm gonna call it again this year.
Speaker 2 (01:02:11):
Early.
Speaker 9 (01:02:11):
I see back to back, Matt, back to back Big
twelve champions for the Cougars.
Speaker 1 (01:02:17):
Oh yeah, Oh I like it. By the way, you
see how we took care of Jackson State last.
Speaker 9 (01:02:21):
Night, And that's what and that's why I'm calling you, Matt.
Reason I say back to backers because they got more
shooters now and they still playing detail. But let me
ask you this, Matt, who is the who's the third
big man in the rotation? Is that they got laid
them out? Because I just see the game a lot.
Speaker 1 (01:02:39):
He's yeah, they lost their big guy. Lot he didn't.
He know, he's not gonna play that much.
Speaker 9 (01:02:44):
But if somebody got to play in the third big
man role, who's going who is gonna be the.
Speaker 1 (01:02:48):
Probably a lot because of the injury, or to McFarlane
earlier this week.
Speaker 9 (01:02:51):
So yeah, okay, and who is I seen another guy?
I know, you got Miller who's the shooter, and you
got all over the shooter, and he got sharp as
the shooter, and you got Crier as a shooter. Who
is that other guy? I've seen that that came in
last night?
Speaker 6 (01:03:07):
He hit a bunch of threes.
Speaker 1 (01:03:08):
Well, I didn't see the game because I was calling
the Rockets. But you're talking about usin he's a new
point guard, he's the replacement for.
Speaker 3 (01:03:15):
Yeah, he's good, and he transferred from where.
Speaker 1 (01:03:18):
He is a transfer. Oh, you're putting me on the spot.
It's always so hard with college basketball. Oklahoma, Oklahoma, there
it is, thank you Ross.
Speaker 9 (01:03:27):
Okay, okay, okay, But yeah, I've seen my Cougars man
Matt back to back Big twelve ten.
Speaker 1 (01:03:33):
You know what I'm You know what I am? I
am thank you for this actually works good this time.
I feel about the Cougars like Texans fans feel about
the Texans. Winning the Big twelve is cool and everything. Yes,
I want bigger and better things. I want to go
to the Final four. And that works out perfectly because
this year's Final four is in San Antonio. Ooh, you're
gonna go? H depends on my rocket schedule. Okay, but
I if I can go, I'll try to go. I'm good.
(01:03:54):
I'm glad you haven't brought up the Longhorns loss of
the Ohio State Buckeyes last night. That's not terrible loss. Yeah,
they're one and a half point face. By the way,
keep an eye on five star freshman Trey Johnson. He
had twenty nine points, shot five of eleven from three
from the Longhorns five stars, scoring wing twenty nine points
(01:04:15):
in his debut as a true fresh Is that a VS?
Is that a VS?
Speaker 12 (01:04:18):
Pick?
Speaker 2 (01:04:18):
Right there?
Speaker 1 (01:04:19):
It might have to because she's like a gud. He's
looking smooth with it. All right, I got you all

(01:06:25):
strippers are gonna wake up Friday twelve noon. They still
wake up, and I almost feel like we're going to
do our Do we want to do our Friday open
at twelve noon there too, or do you want to
do well? Let's make a We've got to make Connor
do it twice. All right, Yeah, we're gonna do it
a ten in noon at ten and well noon, you're
doing all the news at noon. Could do it one one.
(01:06:45):
Let's do it every hour. I love it. It is

her strip throat. She feels a lot better now and
she can be willing to take your phone calls at
seven one three thousand asks for tenlor and say hey,
I want to sponsor the Matt Thomas showed Ross. Okay,
sounds great. Time Now for the NFL rewind, Yes, Matthew,
Well we'll go before we get to Sunday. We'll get
to Monday. And what happened last night with the Chiefs
(01:07:30):
and the Buccaneers banned off terrem hunt right sny Kyrie,
he is.
Speaker 13 (01:07:36):
Give it time touchdown JNA City. It's a lot off
touchdown fight. Terram Hunts and the Kansas City Chiefs stay
undefeated at eight to zero, the only unbeaten team in
the National Football League. Fourteen straight wins for the Chiefs Kingdom.
Speaker 1 (01:07:56):
That's in all.
Speaker 13 (01:07:57):
Time Kansas City record and seven in National Football League history.
Speaker 1 (01:08:02):
Wooh, that call just kept going. But the Chiefs get
the victory walk off in overtime. Matthew. The Buccaneers come
back late to tie it at twenty four, but they
kicked the extra point. The entire nation was waiting for
Todd Bowles to go for two in that situation. He
did not. Here's what he had to say about it,
(01:08:23):
very minor. We want to get it the overtime. With
the wet conditions on the field, we felt like we
had to go on overtime instead of go for two,
so we had our shots. You know, we lost the game.
Agree or disagree with Todd Bowles's decision to not go
for it on the road against the Kansas City Chiefs
and play for overtime. You know, me, I go conservative
(01:08:45):
in this particular situation. I will go for the tie.
That's just me. Sorry, you were the Ronald Reagan of
going for it. My goodness, the Ronald Reignan for going
for it. All right, anyways, all right, thank you mad
for that. Let's keep it AFC. A clash of Titans
in the AFC East. The Buffalo Bills eque out against
(01:09:07):
the Miami Dolphins.
Speaker 14 (01:09:09):
Wattle in pursuit is Rousseau, and he wraps him up
and drops him at the six yard line. Daddy long
Legs gets all over Jalen Wattle and drops him at
the six and that'll do it. The Bills, in inspiring fashion,
went thirty to twenty seven and improved to seven to
(01:09:29):
two out the season.
Speaker 1 (01:09:31):
Buffalo Bills go to seven and two. A couple of
angles on this one, first of all, to a tongue
of a loa. Congratulations, he made it through another game.
He didn't get a concussion. I watched some of that
on the red Zone on Sunday, and just like you,
having to watch Tua do anything scares the Jesus out
of me. I don't I don't want anything about it.
But you know what I'm thinking about. Yes, so you're
(01:09:54):
thinking about him getting hurt again? And how about this,
Matt for a bat beat? If you bet on the
tua yards prop. It was two hundred and forty three
and a half yards, which is a very small group
people that are doing this. He was at two fifty two,
but on that last lateral play, Jalen Waddell catches the ball,
(01:10:15):
he runs back twenty one yards and now to at
two thirty one. If you bet that prop, you took
an l But again, the number of people in this
world that bet the Tua Tagolowa prop probably, I mean
there could be pople that have it in Underdog. Oh,
that's actually true. I was thinking just book only if
you went to Underdog that that's gonna certainly get you.
(01:10:36):
So yeah, that's probably a lot more than I would
have thought. It's still not a huge play though, So
Dolphin's down to two six, two and six on the season.
Matt neutral field this week. Bill's Textanus soil, you take it?
Bill's Texans on a neutral What made you think of that?
I'm just asking thinking about AFC pecking order, Bill's I
(01:10:58):
don't think. I don't think Josh Allen can have that
bad of a game a second time in one year,
although he was slow to get going last week. I'll
say this, but not he had epically bad numbers against
the Texans. Now, again, that may be granted to the
Texans defense, or that maybe it was just Josh Allen
not being able to throw the ball accurately. Yeah, I
think you're right. I would go with the Bills right now.
They're playing a lot better football, and even though you
(01:11:20):
got the head to head win, and that's important, you're
a game behind them now in the eight FC. Let's
go to the NFC. By the way, can we stay
on the AFC for one second? Yes, if the playoffs
were to start today, let me give you the matchups.
You ready, Yes, Kansas City at eight No, would have
would have the buy it's really a bye, because this
really is a tournament. You would then have Denver at Buffalo,
(01:11:42):
the Chargers at Pittsburgh. Yes, Baltimore at Houston. Just rest
on that for a second. Uh. Well, it's funny you
brought that up because I was going to go to
the NFC, But I do have this on the dockets.
Lamar takes a stab, rolls out, throws.
Speaker 8 (01:12:04):
Patrick Card touchdown Ravens.
Speaker 1 (01:12:08):
The Ravens destroy the Broncos eviscerate the Bills win a
shootout against the Bengals. They take care of business against Commanders,
but they've also lost the Browns. I got a bad
loss to the Raiders. They lost to the Chiefs in
the opening. They you do have the Bengals on a
Thursday night, Matt, But who are the real Baltimore Ravens.
The Baltimore Ravens are gonna win that NFC North. Pittsburgh's
(01:12:28):
gonna go in as a wild card probably, which then
means it'll be Pittsburgh against Houston in Houston. No no, no, no, no
no no no no, no no, no Texans. I would pick
the Texans to beat the Pittsburgh Steelers at home. TJ Watt, Hello, game,
Cam Heyward says hello and hello, Kimi Fairmay will not
hit us upright this week or in that playoff game. No,
(01:12:49):
it's true. I think the Texans was a Baltimore playoff
home game. They beat Pittsburgh at all, I think, well,
I mean, Russell Wilson's been playing great football. They were
on a bye last week. That phrasing has not been
said in about five years. I know, ain't scared, I understand,
I'm not okay. This is very This is a rare
change of a changing of the guard. I'm scared. I
(01:13:10):
know you so sound like you're scared of everybody in
the AFC. Are you scared of Baltimore coming here? Absolutely? Yeah?
So I mean you can't be scared of everybody. Uh
Khalil Mack and Joey both saw in the Chargers. Yes,
I'm scared of them. The Denver Broncos defense. Yeah, have
you seen this? Texans? Don't worry Damiko Ryans and Nick
Cassario loved their offensive line. They're not gonna make any moves.
(01:13:31):
Well about the three o'clock deadline today, unfortunately, Uh, that
is probably gonna happen. I said, who did I say,
Alonzo Highsmith? I meant Alex high Smith, Alex high Smith,
T J. Watt, Cam Hayward would feast on this offensive right, Yes?
How about the seven and two Washington Commanders ladled up
(01:13:54):
towards the edge.
Speaker 14 (01:13:55):
George mcclardy catches that touchy touchyoun watching perfect Daniels.
Speaker 1 (01:14:02):
To the farm seven and two atop the NFC East,
ahead of the Eagles, ahead of the Cowboys. Contender status
Washington Commanders or pretender status in the NFC. I think
Philadelphia is better than there. They're obviously not better than
the Alliance. Okay, Commanders or Vikings. Vikings by a smidge.
(01:14:27):
I think he goes Detroit one, Philadelphia two, Minnesota three,
Washington four. Atlanta is leading the South, Arizona's leading, Arizona five,
Green Bay six, Arizona seven, San Francisco. You left out
(01:14:49):
I don't know. They're four and four and Arizona got
another big winning over the weekend. They're also should be
getting Christian McCaffrey back this week. Yeah, you're right, I'll
take out the Cardinals and put the Niners in instead.
NFC is starting to get interesting. He's still better, but
NFC's getting interested. All right, Now, that's your NFLR three one.
All right. New segment starts today and we'll do it
(01:15:10):
every day and we'll add production value to it eventually.
But again, we were we were literally in transition mode. Here.
The news at noon will be at noon where a
Ross will find headlines today, both sports and nonsports related,
and we'll get to those and get you involved in
as well. Seven one three, two, one two five seven
ninety seven one three two one two five seven nine zero.
This is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross We're with
(01:15:30):

not this afternoon at one point fifty Right now, a
word for Berkeley I Center if you have been thinking
about getting Lasik laser vision correction. Black Friday sales are
going on all throughout the month of November at Berkeley.
Sixteen hundred dollars in savings plus forty percent off designer sunglasses.
(01:15:53):
That is a one two punch. And oh, by the way,
how about clear vision with on glasses and contexts. You
do not want to turn down all the good things
that can happen today by you calling seven one three
five two six eyes and mentioning me Matt Thomas and
getting yourself an employment to visit with the staff see
the technology firsthand and how Lasik Laser Vision correction can
change your life. Forty percent off the designer sunglasses, sixteen
(01:16:16):
hundred dollars in savings all through beclasik dot com or
by calling seven one three five two six eyes. That's
seven one three five two six eyes. Bclasik dot com
is more.
Speaker 10 (01:16:28):
Matt Thomas now on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (01:16:40):
Eleven forty nine here on The Matt Thomas Show. With Ross.
We are with you now ten o'clock until two. We'll
have a new feature today and it's just called the
News at Noon. It's nothing crazy, it's just opportunity to
run through the headlines to day from either what happened
last night. We could play highlights of Astros games. We
could play highlights of Rockets games. You know, the Rockets
announcers pretty good, so you want to play those as
(01:17:01):
often as you possibly can. Craig does a great job.
I mean, he's spectacular. I was on the radio that
you hear on this radio station. Oh he's fine, he's
a fine. So well, it gives us a chance to
kind of just reset the show. What's going on, what's happening,
and we'll call those called the News at Noon, nothing crazy.
And you're gonna find one offbeat news item for me
(01:17:22):
to please make sure it's something involving the election today. Okay,
all right. I was looking at a tweet earlier today.
Charles Barsky was a guest on the Dan Patrick Show
and they were you know, Charles has been very outspoken
about today's athlete and a lot of old school players
have done that. And he says there are two things
(01:17:45):
that are a large part of the reason why the
NBA continues to have issues with lower viewership and their
ratings so far, remember very early sample size, Yes, very
very poor. Okay, I think it'll get better. I always
think the the NBA numbers this time of year are
low because you've got college football, pro football. You started
college basketball yesterday night, that would do a huge dent
(01:18:07):
in do it. But you're fresh up the World Series,
and I just think ultimately college and pro football just
dominates sports more than any of the other sports combined.
He says, there are two problems. Number one problem is
you've got a league that is that is heavily focused
on three point shooting and that the low block game
is just not part of the offense anymore. I've I
(01:18:28):
can see. I mean, obviously I'm in the minority, and
I don't mind three point shooting, but I think I'm
in a minority. I think there is a bit of
an issue as to where a lot of times it boils,
every game simply boils down to which team made their threes,
that team wins. And if that's not saying you're personally
(01:18:49):
dumbing it down, but that could be a dumb down
statement of what the NBA is all about. I can
get that. I don't bother me because the Rockets are
down thirty one points in Golden State on Saturday night. Now,
they used the three ball to their advantage, started one
for ten for three they did. The Warriors were eight
for twelve in the first quarters. So they were down here.
But they also use their steals and defense, yes, and
fast break opportunities to get back in the game, not
(01:19:12):
relying exclusively on the three. Now, Jabar hit a few,
but point being is that the three is the great equalizer.
No game is like in an NBA game in nineteen
eighty four. If you're down thirty one in the first half,
there's no chance, no way you're getting back. So to me,
it doesn't bother me. But the second issue you brought
up was the most important thing is the load management.
(01:19:34):
And you've got you've got salaries rising, I mean unbelievable
seventy eighty ninety million dollars year, players that are not
gonna be playing back to backs, and Charles was asked
about and I'm Gonnam paraphrasing here, how do you control
load management? You know what his answer was, you play
three to four times a week. Suck it up, Sally, Yes,
(01:19:55):
suck it up. And if it means you don't practice
during the week, if you don't go to a pregame
show rounds, if you take days off in between, he says,
most NBA teams play three times a week. There are
gonna be some times you play four, but the average
team plays three times a week. If you can't play
three times a week and you are expecting to make
eighty five ninety million dollars, you're going to see a
you're gonna see dropping ticket sales, and you are going
(01:20:16):
to ultimately see a drop in and ratings of broadcast games,
of which at least half of them next year will
be on streaming. You if you've got the Lakers playing
the Bucks and Giannis and Lebron both are not playing
because of the load management, and that game's on Amazon,
there ain't no way in the world and the average
human being's going to go try to find Amazon video
(01:20:38):
broadcast of an NBA game that doesn't feature Lebron and
uh Yannis is was Giannis load managing? Why is he missing?
Is that why he's missing?
Speaker 2 (01:20:46):
Honest?
Speaker 1 (01:20:46):
I'm just using you an example, Okay, I don't know.
I don't know. So they did try to, and so
we know what the problem is. The question becomes what's
the solutions that Charles says, there's no solution except you play.
I think the NBA did a good thing they made
was sixty five games. You have to play now to
be eligible for end of the season awards. So if
you want first team, second third team All NBA. But
(01:21:08):
if you've already got the huge contract, if you want,
it's moot. I think a lot of these players, Matt,
I think it matters as far as MVPs and all
that type of stuff. Okay, then one I want to
see is I want to see a direct correlation to that.
I want to say. I want to hear an athlete
say ROSSI that I've got to get the sixty eight
games because i think I'm worthy of being All first
team or All second team. And I also I'm curious.
I guess we need to go case by case basis
(01:21:30):
of who is load managing. If it's Lebron, First of all,
Lebron James doesn't want to load manage. It's the trainers
and the organization telling him he has to. He's he
or his argument is like, I'm as healthy as any
twenty two year old out of there, but the way
that I take care of myself, You're accurate what you
just said. But he's the face of Lebron. It's the
no one's gonna go, well, Lebron, we believe you. We're
(01:21:53):
sorry that you've got trainers that are trying to treat
you with kid gloves here. Yeah, but you are your
own grown ass man. If they and they, if they
inactivate them, there's nothing he can do. Lebron's run as
a general manager the team Lebron wants to play. Lebron's
gonna play. He wants I mean, I saw the documentary
on Netflix or like there was He's like he's arguing
with the trainers. He wants to play. So he's also
(01:22:16):
thirty nine years old turning for Maybe he's a poor example.
So that's what I'm saying. So who is load managing?
Speaker 3 (01:22:22):
Kay?
Speaker 1 (01:22:22):
I mean Joel Embiid is load managing? He's got a
million knee injuries lately, So that feels like okay, then
you know what, Then if that's the case, you can't
go in and ask the NBA to compensate you for
all these obnoxious contracts if you can't give seventy to
seventy five games. Yeah, Kawhi Leonard has been load managing.
(01:22:43):
He's got like degenerative knee issues that affect him every
single year. Like Steven Adams load managers right now for
the Rockets. Steven Adams is a is the backup center
and a guy wh's been the league for eleven twelve
years ain't gonna break the bank. I can totally get that.
And nobody's nobody's buying well, unless you're from New Zealand. Literally,
if New Zealand's got a strong contingent, maybe you're right.
You're right about that. You're not buying tickets. It's interesting
the first time I've seen an athlete ex athlete, obviously
(01:23:06):
with Charles say, there is no answer. You want to
be a top ten, compensated player, top fifteen, top twenty,
you've got to play now. The only player that I
can remember that I've covered called games for that was
making obscene amounts of money and yet wanted to play
all the time. And I appreciated that was James Harden.
(01:23:26):
A lot of things you could criticize James for. James
always wanted to play and James would be a questionable
going into games, and James would go out there and
warm up before the start of the games and he
would go. So for all the criticism that Harden received
here in Houston, obviously the ability to want to play,
he I mean, there were just nights that he said, no,
I'm gonna go. I don't want to go, but I'm
going to go. Yeah, And I think that's what Charles
(01:23:48):
Barkley is saying is sometimes you don't want to do it,
you gotta do it if you want to be in
that super high echellent salary. So I guess the question
is Embiid and Kawhi would be the two greatest examples.
Now guys that are load managing. That are the superstar,
super highly compensated players that probably could play but are not.
And they they've been hurt every playoffs. It seems like
(01:24:10):
both of those so basically legacy. You could so at
first the point you could load manage it, it doesn't
pay off. In April, yeah, I mean, the NBA sent
a report. They sent a report to all the teams.
The NBA is trying Adam Silver. They they made the
player of Participation policy where they're trying to get players
to play, and they also they had doctors. They commissioned
(01:24:31):
a report, and these doctors sent this report to the
teams saying, load management we can't say for a fact
that it helps, but we also can't say that it hurt.
Excuse that it hurts, but we can't it doesn't help. Yeah,
they're finding that the injury frequency is about the same
load management or not. Yeah. How many players are we
(01:24:55):
legitimately worried about this? Yeah, I think it's not as
many as we think, really, but it's just a sumer.
Jason Tatam's not load managing. Nikol Yoakic is not load managing.
Jalen Green. Nobody in the Rockets load Steven Adams, No,
he's the only one. Are they Shake Gill just Alexander
Like I'm trying to think of star player Luka Doncic
is not is not load managing. He just can play,
(01:25:17):
manages a lot. It feels like ninety ninety five percent
of star players are not. Donovan Mitchell's not load managing
Jaylen Brown. I mean, yeah, so maybe he's just speaking
in wide. Maybe he's you know, what he's doing. He's
basically pointing out KWHI, that's what he's doing. Yeah, he's
got he's got degenerati knee issues and he's hurt all
the time. In that particular case, then it's up to
the teams to say, we love you, but we can't
(01:25:38):
pay you oubnoxious amounts of cash for you not to play.
The News at Noon is next eleven to fifty eight
on Sports Talk seven.
Speaker 4 (01:25:45):
Ninety lunchtimers, This is the Matt Thomas Show.
Speaker 1 (01:25:56):
Twelve four. What's happening in lunch timers? Good afternoon to you,
and welcome to our number three of four of The
Matt Thomas Show with Ross all Right, this is our
interesting I don't know if I like this. This is
too upbeat and cheery. Oh what do you want something sad? Yeah?
Why come on? It feels like you're gonna toss to
(01:26:18):
me for the weather, mat Hey, seventy nine degrees is
gonna be partly cloudy. You stayed out there, folks at
election days day in Little Lie. Make sure you take
your umbrella. At twenty five percent, you had to ray
in the center of the city. Count Are you like
this this theme song for the News and Noon? I
don't think it's bad. I mean it's two thirds vote
majority here, so if it is the one I chose, So,
(01:26:40):
I mean, if you don't like it's the Matt Thomas show.
No no, no, no, no, no, no no, it's two thirds, he says, yes,
you say yes, we'll keep it. Then we can still
try and improve. If you find something, we'll try and
find different things. We'll try another one. Uh tomorrow, tomorrow, Yeah,
we got Look, we just figured out we're doing this
show twenty three hours ago. So trust me, we had
no idea what we were having a four hour show after
(01:27:00):
the show yesterday. So we're trying this. But a new
feature of the show every day at noon is we
want to recap what we saw from last night. Things
were talked about in the show, so we present to
you the news at noon. Okay, I'm really gonna try
not to do a TV guy voice. That's part of
the challenge on this is challenge. You're bad. Oh no, okay,
I'm sorry. Okay. So some trades made in the NFL
(01:27:23):
mat unfortunately not in Houston. I will run them down
for you for it. With Zach Moss Houston Toro down
with his injury, the Bengals have traded for Khalil Herbert.
That's a sixth Excuse me, uh, he was a sixth
round pick. I don't know what the compensation exactly was
on that one, but Khalil Herbert is now going to
(01:27:45):
be a Cincinnati Bingal. This is bad for the Texans.
Zadarius Smith, good edge rusher for the Cleveland Browns, is
now a Detroit line He'll be in uniform, I'm sure
for Sunday's game down at NRG Stadium. That's the bad news. Yes,
that is the bad news. I do not have compensation
on that one and the story that I have either,
but this is the one that's funny to me. Cowboys
(01:28:06):
trading a fourth rounder getting back a seventh and Jonathan Mingo.
I mean, they're losing games, their quarterback is possibly going
to go on ir with that hamstring injury, and they
trade for Jonathan Mingo and they give away more compensation
(01:28:27):
than they got in the Amari Cooper trade a couple
of years ago. I'm asking a question, and I mean
this in all sincerity. Why is everybody else making moves
and the Texans can't do it? Because all teams are
probably strapped financially with the salary cap. The Texans actually
have lower, much more lower round capital than other teams do.
And now, now that's a great question, Matt. And it's
(01:28:48):
not that we're not trying to make deals. It's about
finding the right deal for us. And you know, I
talk a lot of teams, and it's about compensation, it's
about contracts, it's about salary cap, and and it's also
about fit with the so a lot of factors in play.
And the bottom line is, we do believe in the
guys that we do have in the building. I feel
like we've got a lot of good players on this
team that we have who can step in in the
(01:29:09):
place of Kenyon Green. So do we want to improve
the team, yes, do we want to do it at
a great cost? No, So we have to toe that
line and find the right deal that makes sense for us.
The three previous years for the Texans under general manager
Nick Cassio, they've only made one deadline deal. If you
get this, you're it's a running back. And the Texans
(01:29:35):
didn't give a player, get a player. They gave up
a player. I don't remember mark ingram goes back to
the Saints. Yeah, I remember that. To you say it,
but I wouldn't have got that. Okay, So teams are
making deals. What time is the deadline matter? Do we
have aqu three o'clock? Three pm? We will not be
on ears. I was about to say, well we were almost.
You know, the song sounds better than I thought. It'll
(01:29:57):
fall in the lapse of Adam and Adam. I mean
we're used to that. That's fine, Okay, So no deals
made there. Now, let's keep it moving. On the news
at noon, Jason Kelsey, Remember Matt, did you end up
seeing the video and then smashing the guy's phone and
then picking it up as he was calling his brother
a gayesler? That starts with an F for dating Taylor Swift,
(01:30:20):
which doesn't make any sense in the first place. I
think they're very heterosexual. Jason Kelsey on Monday Night Football,
issuing an apology.
Speaker 15 (01:30:28):
I'm not happy with anything it took place. I'm not
proud of it. In a heated moment, I chose to
greet hate with hate, and I just don't think that
that's a productive thing. I really don't. I don't think that,
you know, it leads to discourse and it's the right
way to go about things, and in that moment I
fell down to a level that I shouldn't have. So
(01:30:51):
I think the bottom line is, you know, I want
to live my life. I try to live my life
by the Golden rule. That's what I've always been taught.
I try to treat people with common respect, and I'm
going to keep doing that moving forward. Even though this past,
even though I fell short this week, Good for.
Speaker 1 (01:31:08):
Him Soft everybody was rooting for Jason Kelce when that happened,
and he was living by the Golden rule that guy.
He was treating that guy the way he was treating him.
So what is the golden rule? Technically? And treat others
how you want to be treated. And I think he
is saying that I don't want to condone violence and
words with other forms of violence and work. Is this
(01:31:29):
Jason Kelsey saying this or was he pushed that way
by Disney exact? He was absolutely one d pushed by ESPN.
You don't want a network employee throwing down phones or
doing anything except smiling pretty on camera and saying funny things.
I would agree with that, but also, some punk kid
calling your brother a slur for dating the most famous
(01:31:50):
woman in the planet is ridiculous. Behavior, and I'm sick
of these kids going over the line and be like
people taking shots at me on Twitter and me respect.
You're matching their energy. I think, how if you pulled
a thousand people, how many were upset with what Jason
Kelsey did? It should be zero? Yeah, but I hadn't
(01:32:13):
all right? Moving along with the news at Noon, big
win last at a Tona Center. Oh oh, you just
look at Matt is shoving this box score in my
face because he wants his own highlight. No, if you
were no, I don't want to no, no, no sets
the screen green doesn't take it right side angle trying
to get bike Brunston Jalen contested three. It is odd.
(01:32:35):
It's god.
Speaker 8 (01:32:36):
Two triples in the fourth quarter the only threes he's
got all night long. And it couldn't have come in
a better time. Rockets one oh five, next ninety seven?
Speaker 1 (01:32:50):
Didn't you have to play? It was good. I'm just
saying the News and Noon doesn't have Matt just wants
his man, wants his own calls after every game and
News and New, I'm figuring out the rules here. Were
you think of Robert Ford did a show, he would
have won his own calls. I don't know, I'd probably not.
I'll ask him mix time, I say some of the
he's a big Knicks fan. I'm not happy last night. Actually,
it's the new contract for the show. We have to
play a Matt highlight every segment. He's demanded it. And
(01:33:12):
that's just how we have mean that doesn't sound of terrible,
it's just okay, one O nine to ninety seven. The
Rockets to get the victory, and then Thompson defense great
Aubry ching Goon twenty five and fourteen and the Rockets
improved to four and three on the air and San
Antonio coming in on Wednesday, then a very difficult matchup
with Oklahoma City on Friday, and then a piece of
cake against Detroit on Sunday afternoon. Me strange. Detroit Houston
(01:33:36):
played each other in two sports in the same day. Wow, incredible,
And they will go one in one two and oh no,
I'm just kidding. I may that I don't want in one.
Let me tell you beat Detroit with the way they've
been playing the last month and a half or actually
this entire season, that would be ten times more impressive
(01:33:57):
than beating Buffalo three point dogs in night games generally
pretty good play. But I'm also scared of three times
do road teams typically went on Sunday nights? Not not
a lot, not a lot. I mean, hello, the Colts
were like up at the half against the Vikings on Sunday,
but then the Colts Joe Flacco looked like he was
(01:34:18):
fifty three. Well also, I mean that Vikings defense is incredible,
and well, Joe Flacco did probably about as good as
Anthony Richardson would have. They lost Acond lastly on the
news at noon. That's it, okay, Well unless you went
I had one more thing. If you really want to
get to you just want to Garrett Cole opted out
of his deal. Yes, then the Yankees would have to
attack on another year of his contract to keep him.
(01:34:41):
And then somehow they're saying together on the original deal
that he opted out of. So four years, one hundred
and forty four million dollars for Pete's sake left on
Garrett Cole. And we try to reach out to Garrett
Coleder congratulate on le deal. I think he's sick of
talking to you, very upset. He had back to back
appearances on this show and it was none too pleased
about it. And that's the news at noon. Yes, now
(01:35:03):
sometimes when Ross and we had more time for this,
because I'll give you a wacky store, a little wacky store.
I'm sorry, sorry, and it give me I did find one? Actually,
do you want to real quick? Yeah? Go ahead. A
woman is going viral for explaining her date with a
forty five year old who left one dollars on the
table and walked out after she ordered lamb chops, oysters
and crab fried rice while he only ordered a drink.
(01:35:28):
How did you find that story? Marstool Mortz okay, and
they've always got seleshy stuff. Yeah, and guess what I clicked?
What was it? A first date? Yes, I'm walking out.
She's ordering oysters and crab fried rice and in the
lamb chops. That's that's the don't you typically have Connor?
(01:35:49):
You're your single among those us group here, you uh
try to order light on your first date, right, you
don't try to show off what you can eat or
the right? Yeah, because I know I'm paying, I'm gonna
order or light. No, no, no, no, I wouldn't No, I
wouldn't wory about the costs. I'd be worrying about ordering
like a like if I ordered a big prime rib,
she's like, this guy's a pig. Like when I was
(01:36:10):
when I was dating, when I was fat, I was
ordered salads and they would look at me and going, man,
you're the one ordering double big Max when you leave
the date. So my rule on first dates is you
don't need anything with your hands. Oh this guy, Look
at this guy. Now you eat the eat the double
big Mac before Matt. That way, you're already kind of
you're not super hungry for that meal, so you don't
(01:36:31):
pick out. Oh so you're saying, like, eat it five
o'clock for the seven o'clock if you got a seven
o'clock at least, because I'm kind of snack. I'm not saying,
gorge yourself because then you're gonna throw up in the
middle of the meal. Yeah, all right, that would be
my tip. That's the News at Noon, Thank you. I
kind of like the segment and the music kind of
grew on me. By the way, one hundred and fifty
nine dollars tab and the guy left her one hundred dollars.
(01:36:52):
He only had a sixteen dollars Old fashion left her
a hundred and pieced out that's generous. I just left,
so there was no sun, no second date. I'm assuming
at this point, all right, Uh, when we return, are
you concerned that we're hearing no buzz about Texans making
a trade two hours and forty four minutes away from
(01:37:12):
the trade deadline? Seven one three two one two five

Speaker 4 (01:38:13):
This is the Matt Thomas Show twelve twenty.
Speaker 1 (01:38:33):
It is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross. We are
now with you every day between ten and two o'clock.
We had a station change. Unfortunately, we are going to
miss our man staying northfully tremendously. He is no longer
with the station. We had to move all the shows
around a little bit. Unfortunately, our parent company did a
reduction in workforce nationwide, which yeah, luckily for us, didn't
(01:38:58):
hit Houston as hard as hit other areas. Lot of
shows and a lot of different cities, both in the
music dial on the FM side, amside that were cut
released a lot of long time AOL sports, a lot
of sports. So feel terrible. And as I've told that,
and we mentioned ten o'clock today, worth repeating one more time.
We really enjoyed working with Stan. He was so fun.
We love to bust each other's Cojones Chops chops, that's
(01:39:21):
the PG friendly version. And I give him this and
I'll say this, and I hope Stan's listening. It is
not easy, and I've done this in two different places.
It is not easy to go to a market in
which you do not know now. Stan lived here for
a while many many moons ago, but was never in
the media business. It is not easy to go into
(01:39:44):
a radio show in a market that you're not from
and you didn't grow up with. I did it in
Salt Lake City for a couple of years. I did
at Minneapolis for three years and then chose to come
back to Houston in twenty ten. To get ingrained with
a community that lives and breathes the local sports teams
when you're not from it, it's very difficult, takes a
lot of time, but stand to his credit one hundred
(01:40:04):
percent went full throttle into learning as much as he
did about the local teams as he could. Doesn't mean
you had to agree with every one of his takes.
Doesn't mean that maybe he and I would argue about
a variety of things he would say, But that man
put in the time. There are so many lazy, non
(01:40:25):
talented mailing in people in our industry that didn't put
the time into becoming a good radio host. And stand
did that. So Stan, if you're listening, uh, we still
have our bet number two, you'll be missed number three.
You know, I know people across this country have been
very fortunate to be in this business a long period
(01:40:45):
of time. And he knows that he can find me
anytime he wants to, and I can put any recommendations
I can in and he will be missed. And like
I said, we did not know of this change until
we got off the air yesterday. In fact, the boys
in front of us and behind us knew of it,
but were told by our boss is not saying anything
to us until we spoke with him. So when we
heard about the decision in the reduction new workforce by
(01:41:07):
the parent company, the things are gonna be all moved around,
we were literally the last ones to know. So Stan,
we're gonna miss you. And uh, hopefully you will get
the back in front of a microphone in the not
too distant future, perfectly said, I no notes, I back everything.
Matt just said. There you go seven one three, two,
(01:41:27):
one two five seven ninety seven one three two one
two five seven nine zero get believe it or not
today coming up at one fifty, that's gonna be hard
and again a lot of our funny oh okay, which
you're gonna throw the two fifty crowd off because there
are a lot of people that were just tuning in
for that are going to be so shocked when they
are Adam and Adam. They're not gonna know what to do.
They're gonna be calling Dan like, yeah, I'm calling for
(01:41:48):
believe it or not? Did what now? Huh Okay, They're
gonna have to readjust their clocks. They're gonna be on
mountain time. Let's talk to some people. Let's say hi
to uh Travis and Katie. Then we'll go back to
our question what you're brought up about. Are you, as
a Texan fan, concerned that you're not hearing the trade
winds of blowing? Speaking of that, we do have a
trade in the NFL. Real quick, go ahead. Mike Williams
(01:42:11):
receiver receiver traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers from the New
York Jets. It's a fifth round pick to the Jets. Okay,
so mich Williams. So the Steelers are trying to get
better because they think they're gonna make a plaoff push. Yeah,
they needed they needed WR two with George Pickens is
good but yeah, and Jefferson, but Pickens is even largely
(01:42:34):
inconsistent too. Pickens has been good since since he got
a better quarterback, that's true, and when since he's not
walking off the field. Travis and Katie on seveninety High. Travis, Hey,
how you doing, Matt Good time listener, friends time. How's
it going over there to hear about all that stuff?
I understand? Thank you.
Speaker 12 (01:42:54):
Anyways, So, the Dallas Cowboys made a trade today for
Johnathan Mingo, and I'm pretty upset about it. You know,
I don't understand why they would give up a fourth
rounder for such a diminishing return. But I had a
question for you guys personally. Do you guys think that
(01:43:16):
Jerry Jones read Jonathan Mingo and thought it was that
Jonathan man Dingo.
Speaker 9 (01:43:22):
I'll hang up and listen.
Speaker 1 (01:43:26):
Was that Trey? I don't know, but there's always a
key asset part of the show. My ears perked up
the start of that. I was like, yeah, when you
go to the long time, first time, Trey, I was
wondering in the middle of that if it was Trey.
(01:43:47):
So I'm not sure if it was If it was
Trey shout out to Trey, But no, I don't think
he was trading for a male porn star, although probably
I don't know. Jerry Jones is a fan. I don't
yeah what he does in his own world. I'm not
here to judge. I'm texting him right now. Yeah, if
(01:44:08):
that was Tree, he's an apology. We've only promoted his
his comedy career. By the way, do you how about
kill Tony going up in that that Trump rally and
nobody knowing who kill Tony is? I love kill Tony. Well,
what happened? So kill Tony was up at the President
Trump rally? Why because he was like a comedian and
(01:44:29):
he brought up some jokes unfortunately about Puerto Rico, and
it was he was being what he has a roaster,
taking in jabs at everybody. Why he had a political rally,
that's my I don't know. I don't know they think
about it, but nobody knew who he was, so they
just kept just keep calling him the comedian that was
so out of touch and wrong, and I was like,
that's kill Tony, That's what kill Tony does. Trump didn't
(01:44:50):
even know who kill Tony was, then, why did he
have him up there. It wasn't his call. He says, well,
whose call was it? He said, hey, let's bring up
let's bring up a roaster who insults everybody's nationality and
ethnicity as a joke. And again, if you go to
a kil Tony event, you know that kil Tony is
gonna make fun of people. It was just an odd situation. Hmm,
(01:45:11):
all right, sorry about that. I just was like, our boy,
our guy Tray has been on kill Tony a few times.
So yeah, I don't know he's claiming it wasn't him,
or he says he just gave me a what Maybe
it wasn't he's in Austin. I don't know. What do
you have called the show on that? Maybe? Who knows?
He's a Cowboys fan? All right? Uh so to recap
quickly here and we gotta give a quick time out.
(01:45:32):
We've got one minute here. Are we nervous that the
Texans are gonna sit back? And are we? Are we
gonna be okay? Because you are a battle red ross.
I'm not better read Matt. Okay, So what's the question?
My question is how concerned are you that they're gonna
stand pat and that are they doing this because they
don't want to give up draft commodity. They don't think
there's generally anybody out there, or they think that this
(01:45:53):
is the best we can possibly get in Nick, we trust.
It's made one trade since the deadline, and it was
trading mark Ingram to New Orleans. He's never acquired anybody
at the deadline. You're nervous, Nelly, I would like a receiver.
You're like alignment, You're nervous. But Kenyan Green out. He's
(01:46:19):
the worst guard in football, So they're gonna be better.
I think so. Jared Patterson's supposed to fix all this.
You are Kendrick Green. Are you sure you feel Green?
Or Jared Patterson can make can be will be better? Okay?
Am I excited about it? No?
Speaker 2 (01:46:35):
Am?
Speaker 1 (01:46:35):
I like, let's go Jared Patterson for life, first team
All Pro loading No, okay, I would rather have seen
a receiver. Really, Adam Feeling's available if you want him. Oh,
thirty three year old Adam Thielen who's been hurt all year,
hands yeah, and plays in the slot better than matching Well. Yeah.
(01:47:03):
By the way, I broke my phone yesterday. I cannot
get rid of the I cannot turn my phone on silence.
Were you filming, Jason Kelce? How did you get your
phone broken? It fell and I just can't look at
Oh it fell? Can you fix it?
Speaker 2 (01:47:16):
In the brain?
Speaker 12 (01:47:16):
It fell?
Speaker 1 (01:47:16):
You dropped it.
Speaker 3 (01:47:17):
I dropped it.
Speaker 1 (01:47:18):
Okay. See that's what my dad used to do to me. Oh, okay,
it broke or you broke it? Yes, well, I broke
it all right. Seven one three two one two five

Back to battle Red Ross and Liberty White Ass Matt Thomas,
This is what I am real Pale Texans Talk continues
Onawn Matt Thomas Show.
Speaker 1 (01:49:41):
If you would like to be a part of this show,
we are now tended to here on Sports Talk seven.
Aunty Ross isn't I don't like the term most interactive
radio show, but it is interactive. We like to talk
to you. We like for you to tweet us too,
at Sports mt at SPORTSRV and at connor Dy McGovern.
Shout out to those of you that took shots at
me yesterday when Stan was anouncing that he was along
with the company. Appreciate y'all. It's fine, Matt. People love
(01:50:06):
the show, best business for thirty years. Coaches at Scie Falls.
Don't worry what you're just You're just the best, simply
the best, Matt. As Tina Turner would say, thank you
very much. I appreciate that. ROSSI means a lot coming
from you, all right? Uh so ESPN has their projections
(01:50:29):
of a of the free agents. Oh can I say
one more quick trade that happened in the NFL that
didn't involve the Texas. Go ahead, go ahead. Marshawn Latimore, cornerback,
four time Pro bowler, traded to the Washington Commanders New Orleans,
getting a third round pick and a fourth round pick.
(01:50:49):
Is Gardio kay on this?
Speaker 6 (01:50:50):
Sure?
Speaker 1 (01:50:51):
He's a I don't think he's going to be great.
Third and fourth to the Saints. Washington gets Marshawn Latimore
and a fifth Okay, So again, these are deals involving
players who recognize now they could be passer primer getting there.
But at least these these contending teams Latimar's twenty eight. Yeah,
I mean they're they're contending teams that want to get better.
(01:51:14):
A third and fourth is pretty steep. Tomorrow, I'm gonna
make it. I'm gonna say your little lake gut feeling
right now. Tomorrow people are gonna call this show and
are gonna be unhappy with that. The Texans didn't do anything.
That's fine. Fans don't run the team. But we've seen
in baseball locker rooms, clubhouses, when teams don't make trades.
That there's a small segment and say all right, it's
us against the world. Let's go. Yeah, and there's also
(01:51:37):
large segal there's also a large segment, says man. We
ain't good enough. Don't what this general manager's not doing here?
CJ strout. Let's if we can call CJ right now. Okay,
he wants an additional alignment. He wants an additional slot
receiver too. I'm sure he would want both or no
outside receiver. No, I'm thinking about fields. What I'm thinking about. Okay,
(01:51:58):
you got feeling on the mind. What you want? Mike Williams, see,
I don't, not really, Mike Williams washed. That's I'm saying.
The guy and the reason why IM bringing up Thealding
m is because he's the name that I see that
I think could come in and help out right away.
I can't broke it. This, I broke it. The phone
is broken. Do not text me during the show it
right now? No, No, no what seven one three two
(01:52:24):
one two five seven ninety seven one three two one
two Stop texting. I can't I turn my phone off.
I gotta read this is off my phone. Look, we're
trying to get a word of the mantra of us
being a giggle fast showing you helpen the callus. I'm sorry, sorry,
we like to have fun on the show. Coach Kurt
the Douche says, we're a giggle. If you wanted to
(01:52:45):
scream at each other for two hours, is just thinking
happen for four hours. The fifth most prolific free agent
in this off season twenty twenty four markt is Alex
bregmant what, Yeah, I'm assuming this is number five. I
got this off at two fifth. I thought you said most. Sorry,
he said fifth most, the fifth most sought after for age. Yeah,
(01:53:07):
I missed. My brain skipped over fifth. I was like
most more than one sewed up. Okay reading This is
what ESPN has to say. We wrote this passing or
some other geomo no no, I got this off a
tweet from Michael Schwab. I think he didn't write it.
This is he didn't write. He was not on pacing
things here. Bragman seems to be the primary target of
(01:53:27):
the Astros. That's a good sign check and the Washington
Nationals a very widely rumored landing spot for him. Two
teams that tend to be aggressive and not worry about
models when chasing their targets. Will Bregman get more than
a narrow market than shortstop williadamis Will while having three
(01:53:48):
or four times as many teams engaged. Bragman has posted
three straight four to five war seasons with a wide
baits of skills, though he hasn't topped twenty six home
runs since twenty nineteen and plays a corner position. The
projected contract is what ross the range game belongs like
all this already? They have him at six years one
(01:54:10):
eighty seven, six years. I think if you signs for
six we don't. Nobody wins a lunch bet on this
yeah or in our case no, it's yeah. We said
plate lunch, though we can do breakfast. We up the
bet from a snack to you up the bet to lunch?
I did updated. Did your phone continue to go crazy?
Are people texting? You know, listening to the show? Yes,
you can't turn the volume down on that. I'm trying
(01:54:31):
to look at this all the way down, Okay, sees
I cannot. It's still texting like it's out of control.
I'm getting a new phone this week, so if you
have my phone number. Just text me all the way
you can do it. You can do the scroll down
and then you should be able to have ten texts
like this. Please do it. Do it for me, please.
I don't think it's gonna make a difference. Six sevens.
You're right, it already has the sound off. Yeah, I
(01:54:54):
don't hear anything else. Do you want me to test it?
Go ahead, it's not gonna work. Focus on sports here.
Six years one eighty seven. Okay, that sounds about right. Okay,
sounds about right, six years one eighty seven. I'm thinking
about one one seven years one. I think the Astros
I would like for them to offer five one fifty. Yeah, okay,
(01:55:17):
he's not gonna sign that. But what is he really
gonna is? Your take yesterday was that they wouldn't offer five.
I want him to. Why wouldn't they Because I don't
think the Astros are gonna be a deal at all,
offer and all. They're gonna make some sort of offer
and then it's it gonna it's gonna leak out of
the public and people are gonna get mad about that.
I don't know Korea leaked his own offer. Maybe the
(01:55:38):
Astros don't want to get burned like that. Why can't
I not see the glass half full on this?
Speaker 2 (01:55:50):
You know?
Speaker 3 (01:55:51):
Why?
Speaker 1 (01:55:52):
On why I don't think Bregnant's coming back. No, he's
there's because he's gone. But see there are Astro fans
that are running to their Twitter accounting sign Bregman Royals
Wall says, sim Bregman. Well we said this, and I
mean it feels different, feels really different. Why because he's
older than all of them, because he is mister Astro
(01:56:14):
in the last ten years, well outside of Hoseel Tove. Yeah,
but two, Bay's not worried about a contract. He's taking
care of Yes he is. I'm going off of what
I've seen in the past and the track record of
the organization, and the track record is will pay you
a lot. We're going to keep the years, not in
(01:56:36):
a minimum but very club friendly under five. We don't
want to pay old players. And what happened when they
did pay old players Jose Abreu and Justin Verlander, who
are either hurt or useless. I wouldn't say, oh, Jose
b Yeah, you're right, they got the bray you signing
has burned. The Jim may never get over that any
(01:57:01):
thought of I mean, yeah, they paid an old player.
Now was a three year deal, but he was what
like thirty five when he signed it, correct for thirty
four whatever. It was the only team in Major League
Baseball want to gi him a third year. Seems like
the rest of baseball was smart on that. Yeah, Okay, well,
I just I see these things. These things pop up,
and I think, okay, six one eighty seven, I think
(01:57:21):
a lot of baseball teams would sign Hm for that.
I don't think he's gonna get the seventh year. That's
why I'm at the bet with you. Okay, well we'll see.
Well it takes one hm, Hm. You have channel room
on your side. He thinks he's getting seventh. That's a
good guy to have him my side. Baseball wise, if
we're talking about LSU, he's gonna be a little biased. Yeah, probably,
So all right seven one three two one two five
seven nine if you want to jump in seven to
(01:57:43):
one three two one two five seven nine zero If
I say that Alex Bregman's gonna sign a six year,
one eighty seven deal with the Astro or with anybody,
and it's not the Astros, because here's the thing. The
love for Alex is immense and I love him person self,
but there were a lot of There are a lot
(01:58:06):
of people that just think that it wouldn't be worth it,
that the offensive production really since the finishing second MVP
building just hasn't been the same and it is only
going to go south from there. It's six eighty seven.
I say do it. I say six seven.
Speaker 3 (01:58:23):
Do it?
Speaker 1 (01:58:24):
Your threshold is five. You're going one year extra for
one of the hard Team Gold Glove winner. By the way,
you're taking a big l on that year of that
contractor that last maybe couple of years. Yeah, but you
want to win now? Yeah? Seven one three two one
two five seven nine zero. It is the Matt Thomas
Show with Ross Today's edition to believe or not today
it one to fifty is one fifty Ross, I don't

Speaker 1 (02:00:22):
Welcome back to the Matt Thomas Show with Ross our
number three drawing to a conclusion, I want to say,
first time ever a fourth hour unless there was some
special circumstance of I don't know, a hurricane or a flood,
or when Lance and I first started the morning show,
(02:00:42):
we did four hours. That doesn't count. That was the
proper gentleman. Yeah. Uh. And then we would fill it.
We would do it. Took pictures in a suit that
was true. It was a good suitan nice gray suit. Yeah, good, great,
tile great. I was the start of my weight loss.
That was probably about fifteen pounds ago, okay. And then
we would fill it. We do an extra hour sometimes
when Charlie would take vacation time. Oh okay, I don't
(02:01:05):
really remember that, which was always, by the way, I'm
gonna use the Charlie Pelo philosophy at vacation time, Like
this year, I'm gonna leave a couple days on the
table just cuz well, I'm proud of you, Matt five,
I'm taking every day. Hmmm. That's that's eight weeks of
(02:01:28):
Gordy between the two of us. You will not be
seeing me much in the second half of this month,
as and I will be gone. Well, we're gonna get
some damn Matthews in here. We'll get some Gordy in here.
We may be getting a couple of other people come
in and do something because I'll be on the road
of some special guest stars trying to Okay, Yeah, we're
reaching out to Mike Tyson. I believe Michael Jordan. Yeah,
(02:01:51):
Tiger Woods. We used to be able to have really
good replacements around to like Ryan T. Smith. We miss him. Yes,
Ryan T was an excellent filling because he could do
a little bit of everything. He had a few opinions.
I just don't want to have people in here just
to have people we can get them on from across
the pond to talk about Houston sports. Yeah, I don't
want to. I don't want to deep dive into NFL Europe.
He's still locked down. He is not doing soccer stuff.
(02:02:14):
He's writing articles about American sports in Britain. Yeah, and
pretty soon did I get feeling this that there's gonna
be an NFL game in Europe every week of the year,
Maybe I think you did. You know what, I don't
want to say every week. I think week one will
be no, and I think Week eighteen will be no,
because I think the week eighteen is gonna be too important.
They're in Germany this week. Yeah, but do you see
(02:02:36):
what the game is? It's a dog game? What is it?
Giants Panthers? Seriously, you have serious problems if you're gonna
get up early to watch that game. Is this punishment
for World War Two? We're sending them Bryce Young and
Daniel Jones? By way, there is some talk of Bryce
Young being traded you see that for what? People thinking
that maybe a change of scenery would help him. They
(02:02:59):
did trade away all those weapons. Now who's his best
weapon over there? Jalen Coker, let me ask you this
lot more legend of Javian Sanders. Were we probe Bryce
or do we flip flop on him? I don't. I
don't remember if I liked him or not. I'm Bryce.
I didn't love Bryce. I was concerned. My biggest concern
was the height. And I wasn't advocating for the Texans
(02:03:24):
to trade if memory sirs for them to trade up.
When a CJ. Stroud happened, I was like, Okay, well,
at least here's what I do remember about c J.
Liked him in the National semi final game and gets Georgia.
Didn't like where he played college football? See, and I
got caught up in that, and I will I told you,
(02:03:44):
I'll take the loss on that. I fully accept that.
Told you it doesn't matter, does Texas Teleo? The prime
example has always been the Texas Tech quarterbacks. They never
work out in the NFL. Well, that Pat Mahomes guy
is pretty good. Yeah, there's not real quarterback factory really
with the NFL. Brady went to Michigan Manning, Tennessee. Well,
let's take a look at who's great right now, my
(02:04:05):
homes tex detect that would not be one. Uh, josh
All went to Wyoming far for a factory. Jay Stroud,
Ohio State, they had that huge history, Lamar Jackson Louisville.
I mean you had Bridgewater and Jackson back to back.
That wasn't terrible. But Teddy was never a great quarterback. Yeah,
(02:04:26):
Mississippi State for dak No, Matt Stafford, Georgia, Oklahoma, Baker Mayfield,
Kyler Murray, uh Tua Tongua Valoa. Wait, no, Alabama, I'm sorry, Yeah,
he's Alabama. Alabama's was two and uh Jalen Hurts and
Bryce Young, Bryce Shunk's no good. You know, I think
(02:04:47):
we answered our question. There is not a quarterback factory
in college football anymore. I think it's just quarterbacks, special quarterbacks.
It just seems to be pretty random. No, there's no
I can go to X y Z school and grab
a quarterback. That's because it's such a hard job. To me,
(02:05:08):
it's such a hard job. It's the hardest job in
sports being a great special quarterback. There's literally ten of
ten good ones in the whole country. Yeah, and I
and there's been a lot of tweets about that in
the NFL circles the last couple of years about and
actually in the last couple of weeks, I should say,
why does the NFL have a quarterback development problem? Number
(02:05:29):
one problem is it's just super hard. Yeah. Oh, but
I hear Chris I can hear Chris Gordy in the
distance talking about Jaden Daniels and Joe Burrow. Okay, well,
then maybe he's right. But my point is this, you
know that you can sky things. Why aren't there more
great physicists out there? But it's hard to be a
great physicist. That's true, Matt, You're making a lot of
good points. I should record that. I would. I mean,
(02:05:55):
you can't begrudge the crazy money that is spent on
those guys because they just mean everything you're I mean,
in CJ. If he was to go down fran Treis quarterback,
you're going from him to Davis Mills. I mean, please,
c J. Straus, he's gonna get If you think CJ
is having to run for his life, imagine the stoic
(02:06:16):
Davis Mills going against a French seven presure. Yeah, it's
not good, not good at all, but we'll be fine.
So let me ask you this, Why can't we have
at least how many Okay, let's go, let's go quickly
through this for the next minute and a half. Here, how
many teams have just absolutely disaster quarterback situations? Carolina is
(02:06:40):
a disastrous quarterback situation. I mean Bryce, Bryce Young has
been an absolute bus I'm gonna say, the Saints, I'm sorry,
Derek Carr Saints, Okay, Giants, Yes, that's one. New Orleans two,
Carolina three, Dallas No, Seattle Spence okay, Gino's good, Tampa.
Speaker 7 (02:06:56):
No.
Speaker 1 (02:06:57):
So we're talking about three teams right now in the NFC, Browns, Okay,
let's go. Let's go to the FC New England. No, No,
they're not a disaster. Drake mays you like him. I
think he's playing decent. Okay, Vegas yes, four, Yes, Jacksonville,
even though they're two and seven. Taylor Shriver has been
(02:07:18):
over rated, but not a disasters four Cleveland five, Tennessee
makes six. Yes, Jets No, even though Aaron Rodgers is underperformed.
I would say I think I think they'll be looking
at quarterback in the in the Indianapolis. Yes, it makes eight.
So we're talking about eight. We're talking about twenty five
percent of the teams in the NBA or the NFL.
(02:07:40):
That's not as bad as I thought it was going
to be. Yeah, but I think it's about that many
that are like feel like they're completely set. Now, do
you have a lot of mids?
Speaker 2 (02:07:48):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (02:07:48):
You app you have way more mids today than you did, say, fifteen,
twenty years ago. All right, let's get to the final
hour of the Matt Thomas Show with Ross Today's edition.
To believe it or not, it's gonna be about election history. Yes,
Holly Wikipedia, I mean I'm gonna you know what you

o'clock today. We are now ten to two here on
Sports Talk Summer and it's gonna take some time for
all of us to get used to it. We'll be fine, Rossie,
We'll be just fine. Of course, we can't eat in
(02:09:33):
the middle of the day. How do y'all do with
the work? You shift workers? Work where you don't get
like we don't. You don't get breaks in our show, Well,
youual eat breakfast in the morning, and then you can
eat lunch at two well late luncher like for instance.
Not to give a shout out to a fast food restaurant,
but there is a fast food restaurant breakfast item that
I happen to adore. Okay, it's the steak, egg and
(02:09:56):
cheese baked from So Glad it's back from Rick Ronalds.
And usually I split that with my wife because there's
a lot of food. Oh really, I crushed it by
myself on the way to hear this morning. I'm proud
of you, that's why you've been having a little extra
pep in your step? Is that what it is? Yeah?
And late coming back to a couple of breaks. No,
I'm fine, So I'm gonna rotate that. In the morning.
(02:10:17):
I'm gonna have uh French toast sticks from uh racking
the rocks. Can you bring me some? And then I
will do probably an eight muffin and then maybe oatmeal
from raw rucks to just rotate those four. The oatmeal
is good and cheap. Does does Rona red do it?
What oat meal too? Are you have a good stroke?
Sounds like it? Isn't it all right?
Speaker 4 (02:10:39):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (02:10:39):
Seven? One three two one two five seven OUTI believe
it or not? Today is all things about the election.
One fifty today, which is gonna throw some people off.
Oh yeah, you have forty six minute. You keep saying it,
and it keeps throwing me off because I keep looking
at the clock. I'm like, oh, I got two hours
tomorrow email Doki will be with us. What time? Uh, well,
it's supposed to be one. We can still do one. Yeah,
(02:11:03):
and then I guess we could still do next year
a spot at twelve thirty. Still this spot is still good.
The player interview will have to be moved. Oh, that's right, right,
and I'm going to the eight team.
Speaker 2 (02:11:14):
Man.
Speaker 1 (02:11:14):
They always you know what, catching bikes for us. That's fine,
good luck interviewing.
Speaker 4 (02:11:19):
Well.
Speaker 1 (02:11:19):
I was gonna say Seth Martinez, but he was.
Speaker 6 (02:11:21):
Let go.
Speaker 1 (02:11:21):
Yeah. By the way, Seth Martinez gone, Trey Cabbage gone yesterday.
All right, there was somebody else that, Hosy. That's a
gut feeling I hit. I told you I was never
pitching for the Astros. Again, I was right about that.
Am I to put your name on that? Let me go? Look,
I think I did give me at least some credit
on that. Oh well, all right seven one three two
one two five seven ninety seven one three two one
(02:11:42):
two five seven to start the one o'clock hour, we
talked to Larry and Tomball on seven. Aunty, you put
your name on it. Thank you very much, Marry fourth,
that's a dub. Thank you, Larry. Good afternoon. How are you, friend?
And delete?
Speaker 2 (02:11:54):
Oh fine, Matt, you were talking about quarterbacks from multiple
quarterbacks from the same college. You mentioned three that have
an o U connection, but actually for the past few
weeks there were have been five starting NFL quarterbacks, all
with an o U connection. The uh, well, the Baker Mayfield,
(02:12:19):
my favorite boy, Conler Murray, Jalen Hurts, Callub Williams, and
Spencer Ratler, who Williams Spencer Rattler. Rattler was the common denominator.
Speaker 1 (02:12:37):
You're you're, you're, you're claiming Spencer Rattler and Caleb.
Speaker 2 (02:12:40):
Williams, they were both recruited to oh you, but then
they go because.
Speaker 1 (02:12:46):
Of the Baker Mason, then Mayfield, a tech quarterback.
Speaker 2 (02:12:50):
All five of those players started for OU at one
time or the other. There's a fixed one, uh that'll
be there next year, and that's Dylan Gabriel. He's likely
to win the Heisman year.
Speaker 1 (02:13:07):
They'd be Oregon Duck's great Dylan Gabriel. Man, you are clean,
You're like you're. What's an analogy for this? Rossick? I
can't think of one right now. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (02:13:20):
I have the common The dominator for the first five,
of course, is Lincoln Riley.
Speaker 1 (02:13:25):
Yeah, Lincoln Riley, Yeah, how about this? How about Lincoln
roy Let's go to Lincoln Rally for a second. He
left Oklahoma to go to the Pac twelve because he
thought it'd be an easier chance for the national championship,
and then one year after he's there. They decided to
go to the Big ten, and now he's middle of
the pack in that conference. He's getting a bulllot of
money and getting a boloat.
Speaker 2 (02:13:43):
Yeah, he said, that's the agreea boy. He did stay
at ou though, for five years, so I can't blame
him too much.
Speaker 14 (02:13:51):
Been right.
Speaker 2 (02:13:52):
I just wanted to show.
Speaker 1 (02:13:53):
You with thanks Larry good reference Boomer sooner to you there.
Oh come on, well, it's all right. I don't say that.
Why it's a It's fine. I have no affinity chores.
I'm your sucks. What time is it? It's one O
seven and O U suck? I mean there we go
the absolute what lois of hanging No one of that girl? Sorry,
what's the great cougar's chance? We don't have to have one.
(02:14:13):
We're MF and cougars. Oh that's great, pretty good. Oh
that's genius. Wow away by the way, that woman that
all these colleges have stupid sayings, it's that there. You're
an eighteen nineteen year olds who come up with them.
So it's one O seven and O U sucks? Is
it like something?
Speaker 4 (02:14:31):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (02:14:31):
An origin rivalry? Matt, I know you don't have one
over there, you're gonna come up with things. Okay, you
really want to claim that it's one oh seven O
U sucks? Is really really a fun interesting way to
the bad mouth your arrival a monks? Yeah? Why Notay?
Does another school do it? But I don't know. It
just seems it seems like what's not entertaining about it?
(02:14:53):
Nothing good entertaining. It's one of those if you know
you know things, Matt, all right, I guess and I'm
not gonna Yeah, it's not extremely clever, like it's a
bunch of eighteen nineteen year olds came up with this
and god knows when and then the probably the nineteen
forties or something.
Speaker 3 (02:15:06):
No.
Speaker 1 (02:15:06):
One of that female listener who took a shot of
me on Twitter hates me. She's a big ut fan,
is shey? Yeah, she's farther than her. Probably the dumb
beat that goes it's one or nine us. Don't worry
about these people's that's fine, all right. I only do
that one day a year, and I respect you for that.
I can't do it one day a year. Come on,
I'll give it to you one day a year and
(02:15:27):
clip that seven one three two one two. I'm clipping
my own stuff said seven one three, two one two
five seven out eight seven one three women's field hockey.
That's what else is on. I don't know what's difference
between field hockey and lacrosse. Uh the ball has to
stay on the ground in field hockey like a puck.
Oh my god, that's gonna hurt their backs. Yeah, I know.
(02:15:48):
I'm sure they all have back issues, some more than others.
I mean, i'd watch this all right, Matt, focus up.
We always try to watch live sports in here, and
we're definitely not gonna watch Pat McAfee. So I put
on we had on some Turkish League basketball at that game,
(02:16:10):
Turkish League basketball ended. So now we're onto women's field hockey.
And by the way, Syracuse is the one nothing Liover Virginia.
It's on the acc. You want to make a bet
on this what we got? Hockey players have been down
the whole time. They had longer sticks. Can we get
them longer sticks? Everybody once to have a longer stick
once in a while. Yeah, absolutely, two fifteen. These ladies
need longer sticks. Oh so we have we brought up
(02:16:32):
field field hockey before? How did you find that? Click?
Because Matt Thomas would say, only one show in the marketplace.
That's exactly talking women's field hockey. We're not talking NFL tray.
We got an hour forty fifty minutes left and Texas
have done squad getting back surgery after the season. They're
very attractive generally speaking. What they're old enough to be
(02:16:57):
your daughter. First of all, that's half plus. Well that's true.
Forget what I said. They're all lovely young ladies and
their parents must be very proud. This has hurt my
back watching this. I gotta change change pat maxeyback on. No,
let's not do that, all right, seven one three two
one two five seven seven one three two one two
five seven And we have we taken a rocket call
(02:17:18):
yet today. I don't want to do obligatory rockets call.
We're getting your squad's above five hundred, right, ROSSI. They're
four and three now, three baby, I done seven games already. Yes,
you have the season just flying by. Yeah, game number
eight of eighty two, ten percent of the season coming up.
When that is crazy? You know, in all seriousness the
(02:17:40):
text and season, there's six and three, Yes, there's eight
games left for the bye week, there's nine by week
and off week. Yeah, when when I was watching Red
Zone on Sunday, at some point Scott Hansen said, by
the end of the games at noon, we will be
over halfway through the season. And I wanted to cry.
It's like we spend all these months dreaming of our
(02:18:01):
fantasy drafts and getting in front of the Red Zone
and going to games and planning our trips. It's like
like the Cougar's football season is might be over in
three weeks now they win the one, Okay, that's enough
from you. If they go two out of three, they
go to a bowl game, so we'll get to another
month of excitement. Yeah, it'd be nice. Go kooks. That's
nice you to say that, wishing them the best in
(02:18:25):
the Birmingham Bowl or whatever it's. You know what, let
me take you something. I'll take a ball out of
this year? Are you kidding me? After what I thought
was gonna happen. As somebody who lived through the Charlie
Strong and Tom Herman eras, I do not take bowl
games for granted. So you get to a ball game,
that's fun, all right? Seven one three, two, one two
five seven on any of the Rockets did get a
victory last night, We'll get into that a little bit.
We have believe it or not today coming up in
about forty minutes from now, and we have what else
(02:18:46):
is going on in tryn to think of trade deadline?
Texans have been largely quiet. Jonathan m Alexander with a
good story in the Chronicle website about that uh NFL
from last night. Kansas City won in overtime against Tampa
Bay election day, which we've covered already in the three
seconds of political talk on this radio show seven one
(02:19:07):
three two one two five seven ninety. Are you hungry?
I can tell you for a fact that Ross and
I are starving right now. Big City Wings is where
you should go to enjoy a fine, fine meal. Uh
And it's Tuesday, which is buy one, get one free wings,
bone in or bone lists. You get ten, they'll give
you ten. You buy fifteen, they'll give you fifteen. Twenty
(02:19:28):

some ranch dressing, get some blue cheese, get your favorite side,
whether it be waff of fries, potato wedges, onion rings,
and you're gonna enjoy an amazing night of buy one,
get one free wings at any of the thirteen Big
City Wing locations. Not only are you going to get that,
but they also have a drink special today that, frankly
(02:19:48):
for me, is a little dangerous, dangerous in a good way.
Tea time three dollars Long Island Teas at any of
the thirteen locations, So two for Tuesday Wings and three
dollars Long Island Iced Teas and any of those locations.
Just find the Big City Wings near you. It's an
easy check. Go to Big Citywings dot com for two
for Tuesday Wings.
Speaker 4 (02:20:07):
Matt Thomas continues on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (02:20:15):
Somebody called off air. Our salesperson today is Taylor Murphy.
She's uh was sick last week. She's back in the
office today celebrating that wonderful. If you want to reach
out to Taylor, call seven one three two one two
eight thousand. She's the salesperson today and she will give
you great rates on advertising on this radio with Ross. Yeah,
thank you. I mean I will take it. I say,
(02:20:36):
Ross and I would both each like it. Now you
do it fine? How about you do a tandem. We've
never done that. We could do it now. My name's
on the show. Let's go, let's go, salesperson. Tandem everything
a bunch of tag teamers seven one three two one
two five seven ninety called Taylor at seven one three
two one two eight thousand and say, I want to
(02:20:57):
advertise on the Matt Thomas Show of Ross. Yes, go,
I'm money. We all need revenue, some more than others.
You all right, what's the matter with you? I just
I don't know. I've about fifteen times a day. I
gotta bite my tongue on this show. It's funny. I
should probably bite mine more often. Yeah, me too. Actually,
(02:21:22):
so so what are we gonna do? What are we
doing when we're off at two?
Speaker 2 (02:21:28):
Now?
Speaker 1 (02:21:29):
Well, I'm going to vote, okay, yeah, and then I'm
gonna go to Carly's volleyball game.
Speaker 13 (02:21:35):
Kay?
Speaker 1 (02:21:35):
Can you can check the lines right as far as
how long they are? Well, I'm gonna go to She's
they're playing. They're playing at Summer Creek High School tonight.
So I'm gonna go buy a school by elementary school
by where Summer Creek is so kind of knock out area.
By way, if you live in Harris County, you can
vot anywhere you want Harris County. Okay, I didn't know that. Yeah,
I didn't know that either, so I'm just gonna do it.
Speaker 3 (02:21:55):
Just do it.
Speaker 1 (02:21:55):
I mean, I feel like that's if we're given the
right to do him as, we'll do it. Okay, I'm
looking up election stuff for believe it or not. Lowest
this would be a little nugget for people. Okay, lowest
percentage turnout of voters in by state is The lowest
state was Oklahoma in twenty twenty. Okay, Oklahoma, that's a
(02:22:16):
freebie for you guys. At one fifty today you can
use Oklahoma. You can use a different six. The lowest
to turnout Texas, Texas, Yish Okay, highest turnout your folks
in Minnesota. Oh, yes, seventy nine turnout. That's wow. We're
going to say. I think we're gonna see some record
numbers because, first of all, the early balloting, early voting
(02:22:40):
has been astronomical in a lot of states. Yeah, but
there are people that think that the I guess the
early since so many voted early, that might put the
day lower turnout here. So who knows? Yeah, all right, rockets.
By the way, the NBA is off tonight because they
want them read to vote. We had stagger games last night. Yes,
I think that's cool. That's great. I think it should
be a nationville holiday. Guy, wouldn't election day be a
(02:23:01):
national holiday? Kids are off school today? Oh they are? Yeah, Okay,
why are we here because we were told to work
ten o'clock? That's true. We do it. We're told, yeah,
we will. That question win on a ruffle feathers. You
know what I'm saying. But I think it should be
a national holiday.
Speaker 3 (02:23:19):
What do you think? Uh?
Speaker 1 (02:23:22):
No, you can suit of your business and be done
in ten fifty minutes. Some people don't. Some people have
to work multiple jobs. Yeah, but there's early voting. I mean,
if if you're not going to vote, you're not going
to use my job as an excuse. You've got plenty
of days. I think it'll be I think there are
people who it would be a lot easier if this
day were a national holiday. Absolutely, I think it would.
(02:23:42):
You don't You don't think it would upturn out? I
couldn't hurt it put it that way. But but but
you get plenty of opportunities to do it ahead of time.
I think turnout would go up. And I think that's
a good thing. Yeah. Well, like I said, I'm gonna
be get out the air in a few minutes and
we'll go down and see what we'll do. We'll decide.
Good luck. I'm undecided. You're a ride in Ville right
yourself in? If I could get ten percent of vote,
(02:24:03):
would writ myself in. Oh you know what, I'll go,
I'll go write you in so all these it would
be like Trump forty nine point nine, Kamala Harris forty
nine point nine. M. Thomas point one. Yeah, that'd be cool.
Go down in history. Didn't who was the Uh? Wasn't
there a guy with a strange name that was running
(02:24:24):
for office? I got like one percent one time cowboy hat,
old guy, old Godkyankinky Friedman. May he rest? Yeah he did?
He's dead. I think he ran for governor and he
got one percent. I think I don't remember something crazy
like that. Go look, No, you don't have to. No,
don't look. I want you to focus on sports because
people come to us to get away from politics. That's true,
(02:24:45):
you're talking about I'm moving on. I'm moving on all right. Rockets,
last Night, Goeta Win, san Antonio Tomorrow Night died this
year in June. Kinky Friedman boy I should have used
him for a life or dead, believe it or not
yeah too late Rockets last night. And if you're a
Rocket fan, want to call in and say, Hey, had
you feel better about what Jalen did in the fourth
quarter the game last night? Do you feel better that
(02:25:06):
Apple and Shingoon was out there playing valuable minutes? Amen
Thompson playing some spectacular defense. And here's the thing, if
you're in New York, I know you're not happy that
you lost last night, but you basically tried to beat
the Rockets with seven players. Kinky Freeman got twelve percent
of the vote. You got that much, I thought we're
going back to sports. Get off that damn page whatever
you're on. Rick Perry thirty nine percent, Chris Bell twenty
(02:25:28):
nine Carol Keaton Strayhorn eighteen percent, Kenkey Freeman, So how
long ago is that? Two thousand and six? Okay, sorry,
what were you talking about? I'm zoned out? I was
you got me in this is I get a Wikipedia
hole fourth hour. I'm sorry. Tried to get you to
talk sports with me for twelve seconds here and repeatedly
said get off that website, turned close the computer down,
don't stare at me like that. That makes me it's creepy.
(02:25:51):
I was like now you look, you're looking at me
with adoring eyes. I'm closing my eyes on this. All right,
I'll back up locking in and what you're saying though, Matt,
all right, I got locked in. I got the Rockets
winning forty eight? Can they get to forty eight? Maybe
because I'm biased purely. Look, I put him in forty
five totals forty three and a half. You got him
(02:26:13):
five over the total.
Speaker 3 (02:26:14):
So what?
Speaker 1 (02:26:14):
Okay, it's not bad. You see Milwaukee's one and six. Yeah,
I think they said it's been like only a bunch
of hundreds of teams have started that way and only
like twelve of them made the playoffs. And honesty not
play last night. It's Drew Holliday playing for them. I
feel like he's hurt. I don't know, not Drew Holliday, No, no, no, no, no, no,
(02:26:37):
Chris Middleton. Drew Yeah, yeah, Chris Middleton. Has he been playing?
I know he's been hurt a lot less legend, I
don't know. Yeah, I do want the Rockets to make
the playoffs. There's a good buzz in the total Center
can get fun if they make the play It was
going on on Saturday. A lot of Knick fans of
(02:26:59):
the game last night. By the way, I heard some
Nick fan roaring. It was like in one section of
the arena. How did New York fans find a particular
area of the arena and buy up all the tickets?
Is Robert Ford probably bought them for everybody. Well, he
had my tickets, he did. I mean, he's he's giving
me some of his astro tickets at least. Wow, that's good.
Tomato tomat. Wait, that's on tomato to modal. Tit for
(02:27:19):
tat Tomato tomato is better? Yeah, yeah, tamato tomto doesn't
apply at all. No, it doesn't. Tit for tat is
what I mean. Okay, tit for tad. It's the fourth hour.
I'm tired. No, we're gonna get past this. We're gonna
We're gonna roll. I'm gonna get some good rest tonight.
My sleeve schedules a little off. I'm ready to go.
(02:27:40):
I got tomorrow night. We got the show and the
Spurs rockets tomorrow night. So we'll have it for you
here on seventeen. Uh college basketball. Last night, Houston Cougars
took care of Jackson State. Longhorns lost Ohio State a
and m lost to Central Florida Power the Big Twelve.
What was the line on that one? I've been an upset,
but Aggie's were ranked, but I mean maybe a small
(02:28:00):
favor for any Long Horns are ranked in Ohio State wasn't.
But it was a one and a half points spread.
I mean we won by fifty seven points. That's a cover.
Wasn't it thirty seven and a half or something? It
was in the mid thirties. Yeah, now here's the thing.
You want have home games to kind of get warmed up.
But I would say this and like, I'm not gonna
tell Kevin Hunter to do his thing because he's won
on bothload of games. But I almost feel like you
(02:28:20):
want to play somebody a little bit better just to
keep a competitor. No, I'm okay with that. I mean
to start off the season for a game or two,
like the Long Wins played their first game against Ohio State.
It's like, can't can we get a warm up because
we're gonna go from playing Jackson State last night to
playing Alburt on Saturday. I feel like, ad, that's good.
You ramped the season up. That's how you do it.
(02:28:41):
I like that, and I would like for I'm doing
two of their games on television the rest of the way.
One is against Toledo. Hey, you get the dress rehearsal
against Jackson State. Yeah, and then you get the main event. Yeah.
And then they're gonna go to Vegas over thanks. Give
me where they're gonna play in that big tournament where
they pay the athletes. The only reason I'm going to
this thing is I can pay my athletes off. Well,
(02:29:03):
long runs were in Las Vegas for what the Hall
of Fame series? That something else. No, this is a
brand new event. This is where they're giving each one
of the eight teams a million dollars, one million dollars.
You know what I don't like about college football year
to year? I don't know. Is it more stable with
the Cougars there? You have to learn the team every
single year. There's like, okay, where did he transfer from everything?
(02:29:25):
Where was he there?
Speaker 3 (02:29:26):
That?
Speaker 1 (02:29:26):
If you looked at a spot or board or the
too deep of every college football team basketball, I'm saying
football team, it's a load of with transfers. I mean
I look at Kevin Ashenfelder, he does his spotting boards
and he'll put name weight where he's from, and then
there's always going to be a space for where that
person was previously, where he transferred from. I mean, teams
(02:29:48):
are litterate transfers. Yeah, I guess it's football too. It's
hard harder to learn the team every year too, because
you used to watch guys, you know, back in the
old days. This guy is a freshman, he got some
snaps or some minutes, and then he got better and
then you're like, oh, wow, he's really grown, or well
he added some weight, and then by their time they
were junior there. You know what my philosophy about college
football is, and to a lesser extent, college basketball. The players,
(02:30:10):
the fans of those teams don't care what their names are,
who they are. I mean, if you're Texas, Alabama, Ohio
State perennial national title contender teams, you get to know
your players. Yeah, but I can say my U of
ahe Brethren doesn't know eight U of AH players, maybe
the four or five basketball players. I think it's different
(02:30:34):
for bigger prof Okay, how many if I wouldn't find
a Baylor fan, could Baylor fan give me ten Baylor
football player? Now I'm talking about like, I mean, how many.
For example, there's like five six message boards for Longhorns
and Longhorned fans. How many Baylor ones are there? I
don't know. I don't I don't go to those things. Yeah,
I don't know, but I think there are a lot
(02:30:55):
of people people who get into recruiting, get into transfer portal,
get into all that type. Okay, then I'm gonna speak
on behalf of only my school. My school I don't
think cares what the players' names are on the back
of the jerseys. They care what's in front, and I'm
okay with that. I will speak for Longhorn fans. I
think a lot of them do get heavy into the
recruiting and heavy into I mean, there's well, if you're
(02:31:16):
in Austin, the Orange Blood, But if you're in Austin
and you are not competing with pro sports teams, your
sports talk is going into deep detail of Like when
the Craig Way Show goes on, he's not breaking down
the NFL from last night. He's getting into Texas getting
ready for this week's game against set Upon that can
Alfred Collin step up with Devandre Sweat and Byron Murphy
(02:31:37):
going into the draft stuff like that exactly. We're in
bigger cities. I'd be I'd be, I would be safe
to telling you that Miami Sports Radio doesn't have a
deep dive into Miami Hurricane too deep talk. Okay, frankly,
the only thing we worry about it you of h
is which who's the quarterback going to be? And Donmin
Smith has been replaced by Xion Chris and he has
been really, really good. Let's ask Gordy dropping. Oh but god,
(02:32:01):
he's on and every every market he goes on is
college football heavy. I know, all right. Seven one three
two one two five seven nine. If you want to
jump in seven one three two one two five seven on,
you know what I wanna do. I'll hope I get
more post election text I had stopped every time, and
I still get them. It's absolutely ridiculous. Seven one three
(02:32:24):
two one two five seven ninety. I want to tell
you about Two Creeks Crossing Resort. This is a locale
that is near Lake Livingston that I promise you you
get up to see the folks at Two Creeks and
you're gonna enjoy the experience. It is a combo uh
park with uh yurts. It's gonna have glamping tents. It's
(02:32:44):
gonna have these big beautiful treehouses, big cabins that you
can escape from the city for peace and quiet and
great amenities. These amenities would include barbecue grilling facilities, community
fire pits, a boat ramp, docks and slips. There's a playground,
there's resort wide high speed Wi Fi concrete rvpads. There's
(02:33:04):
a two acre catch and release pond. There's a laundry room,
shower facilities, plus pickleball, fishing, and so much more. The
name of the place I've been telling you about this
for months now is two Creeks Crossingresort dot com. And
right now you can say forty percent off cabins or
twenty percent off our v site rentals between now in February,
all through two Creeks Crossingresort dot com, just an hour
(02:33:28):
and a half from Houston on Link Livingston. That's two
two Creeks Crossingresort dot com. Thank you, amen, Rockets and spurs,
Small night over a tot of center, and we look
forward to having bringing that broadcast right here on Sports
Talk seven ninety seven one three two one two five
(02:33:49):
seven ninety It is the Matt Thomas Show. At ross.
We are now ten to two weekdays here on Sports
Talk seven ninety tomorrow and the radio program we'll have
you made don't go with us for a few minutes.
We'll also have shut your Ball mass up and in
times of those we don't know yet. We're trying to
work these things through the new waters that are the
ten to two slop, but we look forward to you
spending your mid days with us all as much as
(02:34:09):
you can here on Sports Talk seven ninety. Let's go
to Chris in Missouri City. Chris, thanks for holding on.
Good afternoon. Hey man.
Speaker 6 (02:34:17):
So I was at the game last night, six and
one o six, surrounded it by New York fans. I
don't know how they got that many tickets, but whatever,
I was surrounded by fans.
Speaker 1 (02:34:26):
That's crazy. I wonder why that one section in particular.
I wonder if there was like a New York Knicks
fangroup for Houston and all aside to buy in the
same area.
Speaker 6 (02:34:34):
Right, and then they also won like they were next
to the section that won, and that was full of
New York fans, like they.
Speaker 2 (02:34:40):
Know the section that cheers loudest.
Speaker 6 (02:34:42):
They won because there was nothing with New York fans.
Speaker 3 (02:34:44):
That was crazy.
Speaker 6 (02:34:46):
But what I caught about was the closing team that
was on the floor last night is jelling and going
to be so good as they would toured together. That defense,
I think it's the youth at leticism and the just
a will to play defense. I'm in was spectacular on Brunson.
Speaker 3 (02:35:06):
In the fourth quarter.
Speaker 6 (02:35:07):
I think it's length is Lynt just bothered.
Speaker 3 (02:35:09):
Him at the end and the end of the game.
Speaker 6 (02:35:10):
But Tarry Eathan, i'm in, Thompson, Green, Sengoon, and I
forget who the fifty is on the floor last night,
but they clapped down and I'm sure the coach was
extremely happy. Man, that five closing is going to be
tough on Western Conference teams.
Speaker 1 (02:35:27):
Well, it's defensive minded. Thanks for the phone call, Chris,
And as we talked about a little bit on the
show yesterday, EMA is not going to be afraid to
not worry about who's making how much money, who's playing
that many minutes. He wants defensive stops in the fourth quarter. Now,
obviously running and pushing and scoring, it's a huge part
(02:35:49):
of the thing. But last night, Rossie, the Rockets give
up ninety seven points. That is such an abnormality in
today's NBA that I guarantee you as much as fun
as was seeing Appi Scoes what he did in the
first half and seeing Fred hitt those three pointers early.
He had to be as more proud, if not even
than anything that you saw offensive b by the work
(02:36:11):
that Amend Thompson did on Jalen Brunsias. Jalen it's just
really really hard to stop, and it's really hard to
stop a guy that's still primarily left handed ninety five
percent at the time too. Yeah, they want to push
pace and they want to defend well, and that can
be harder with Alprynching Gooon on the floor who did
get a lot of minutes, but he also wasn't in
the closing lineups against the Golden State Warriors and the
(02:36:34):
Dallas Mavericks. So you want to use Alprynching Gooon's strength
and his skill set and that is the back to
the basket game, the playmaking, all that type of stuff.
But also sometimes it can come at a cost, meaning
I need a perimeter jump shooter. I don't have one
on the floor, because yes, if you have on lineups
through you have Amen Thompson and alprynching goon on the floor,
(02:36:57):
teams don't have to respect either of their three points.
You lose a deep perimeter game. So what you're gonna
have is you're gonna have the paint packed. Everyone SAgs
way off of a men Thompson and SAgs way off
of albrnching gound. So that's fewer cutting, that's fewer driving
lanes for a guy like Jalen Green, who is best
to add his best when he is cutting in getting
to the basket. But what I see from a men
(02:37:21):
fifteen feet in I can live with. Problem is when
you watch the Rockets and a man has the basketball,
the defenders sag off yes, and you see him wide open,
and then you have to make the decision do you
take the shot and trust it or do you try
to take wondribble in to get a little bit closer.
Then the body comes after you, and then all of
(02:37:41):
a sudden, that free and easy, wide open shot becomes
a contested shot. Yeah, So he's a man is doing
a good job adjusting. He's still driving, He's attacking those situations.
If somebody's sagging way off of it, he's still trying
to get to the basket and create for others, which
he can do. So it's it's gonna be an adjustment
period and we'll see what happens long term. But very clear,
(02:38:01):
very clearly, Udoka loves amend Thomas's defensive energy and playmaking
ability and kind of do everything Swiss army knife type
of ability he has. And I said this about anything
in basketball, it's hard to play defense. It's a lot
of effort, hard, it's athleticism, it's scouting the opponent to
(02:38:22):
know what he does, when he doesn't do well, how
to put him in different spots of the floor. But
most importantly it's about athleticism and effort and want, I
would say, also extremely important fighting the referees. And you've
got guys like Jalen Brunson and who'll swim moves that
will try to drive foul foul hunters. Yeah, yeah, And
I mean Luka Doncic does it. I mean Luka Donc's
(02:38:43):
pump fakes eight times and then flops and then they
call a foul, and again the NBA doesn't make it.
And this is college basketball too. It doesn't make it
easy for you to play good defense. No, it's a
very very difficult challenge to be an on ball defender
and not say at a foul and hand check. I mean, yeah,
these games are the rules have beuilt for offense to
facilitate offense, and that's smart, and that's good for the
(02:39:05):
overall health of the league. And you know, with remember
we were watching the Last Dancing, We're like final score
seventy two to sixty eight. Let me tell you, the
NBA wants no part of ninety seven to ninety four.
They any, they don't want games like that on the
regular under any circumstance. So, you know, but as much
that we don't talk about loving defense, we respect the
(02:39:26):
hell out of it. Yes, and if you have somebody
who can do it, do it proficiently without fouling. It's
a big asset. And that's what A Men Tom said.
And that's what the sweet part was of the Saturday comeback,
which eventually the Rockets came up short, was that they
triggered their second half comeback because of Tari Easton and
A Men's Thompson's defense, more so than Golden State getting
(02:39:48):
cool or the Rockets getting hot from three. But I
will say this, when we were talking about this a
little bit earlier, on the show today about how the
NBA is sagging a little bit from an interesting point
because it feels like it's a three and D league
and that's about it. We almost get mad when our
favorite shooters take the two point shot when they could
(02:40:09):
have taken one step back and made it a three.
I like open threes. I don't like just like, for example,
at the end of the Golden State game, I thought,
like Jabaris Smith Junior and some of the Rockets, they
just got a little two three happy. They were just
ready to let it fly within the flow of an offense.
For open shots. I'm more on board just letting it go,
just to let it go. I'm less on board.
Speaker 2 (02:40:28):
Well.
Speaker 1 (02:40:28):
And another thing is too is that coaches will say
you got to keep shooting. Yes, Like Fred van Vliet
didn't hide the fact yestually he said, look, my numbers
were terrible, but I'm a shooter. I'm still a guy
that can make threes in this league, and I'm going
to continue to shoot until tid get out of my slump.
Jalen Green started that game zero for six last night.
I'm sure there are people saying, oh, you start zero
for six, don't ever shoot a game, Well, he made
his next two and those were clutch threes that won
(02:40:49):
them the game. Yea. And while the score card doesn't
look great, the statueet if you watch the game last
night and listen to it, eight points from Jailing Green
were a huge part of the reason why the Rockets
were able to wast and that late push by New York.
All right, uh, Connor, what are our today's gifts that
we're giving away on today's edition of Believe It or Not,
which is coming up next.
