Speaker 1 (00:19):
Sacramento technical foul.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Fred van Blee. He's out, and so is Emadoka. We
got everybody leaving here and Emy is hissed. He is
walking towards John Goebel and has tend being restrained by
(00:43):
leave security team.
Speaker 1 (00:46):
It wasn't Fred van Blee, it was out Breton Shangoon.
Speaker 2 (00:50):
But you could have picked and choose who you want
to knock out of the game, because there were a
lot of angry Rockets, goodness gracious last night, and Sacramento
got ugly and the comments from Emadoka are unbelievable and
we'll hear from him coming up later this morning here
on Sports Talk seven Hoty. I'd like to introduce a
new member of our Sports Talk seven ninety team.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
His name is Rossville Real.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
He'll be co hosting with me ten o'clock until two
weekdays here on seven A h.
Speaker 1 (01:16):
All right, it wasn't that long, was it. It felt
like a month. It was all two weeks and change.
Speaker 3 (01:24):
I got a couple of extra days off because of
the Thanksgiving holidays.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
Okay, so tell us about your body clock right now.
By the way, my body clock is a complete hot mess.
Right now, that's every day. That's true. We got here
at about twelve forty five and by the time I
settled in my room, got my bag and everything was
about one point fifteen one twenty And right now it
is eight oh three Pacific Mountain Pacific standard time.
Speaker 3 (01:47):
So well, right now it's in Soeul. It is one am,
so I'm doing the show from one am to five
am Soul, South Korea time.
Speaker 4 (01:55):
Okay, so what so what time did you go to
bed last night?
Speaker 3 (01:58):
Actually, I've been very good. There's this app it's called
Time Shifter. I recommend it to everyone. It tells you
like when to go to sleep, when to get some
low light, when to drink caffeine, to try to reacclimate yourself.
And it's been I actually slept from like eleven PM
to seven am. I feel great that as good. The
app has been perfect. It tells me exactly what to do,
and I couldn't recommend it more.
Speaker 4 (02:19):
And how are the two long ass flights.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
Uh, they were the longest flights I'd ever been on.
The one there was like fifteen hours because of the
jet stream. The one back is only like twelve so
it wasn't necessarily as bad, but those are definitely the
longest flights I've ever been on, and a bit of
a struggle, but we made it.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
I brought some books.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
I slept a lot, and I was using that app
which tells you when to sleep, but you generally you
sleep a lot on the plane, which I was able
to do.
Speaker 4 (02:44):
And how is what did you get Wi Fi either direction?
Speaker 3 (02:47):
I didn't get Wi Fi there because uh, the jet
leg protocol was said that I needed to sleep, But
on the way back I got it. And I was
trying to watch a bunch of so I subscribed to
NFL Plus and you can use the app, so I
was trying to rewatch all the Texans games that I
had missed, and then the uh Schmerishman shmare lines you
sun your WiFi. I'm literally I I like took a
(03:10):
I took a screenshot of my confirmation on the Wi Fi,
and I took a screenshot of the speed test, like
I'm gonna ask for my thirty five dollars back there.
Speaker 4 (03:17):
Yeah, they'll they will usually give it to you.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
Oh they need to. It was it was a disaster.
It was horrible, but you had a good time. I
was pictures, Oh my god. Yeah, I mean haven't even
begun to ye.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
I'm gonna post some more stuff on Instagram at sports
RV where I'm trying to build up my following if
you want to follow me on Instagram at sports yet
normally it's.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
It's not worthy of looking at. But you have been
some good photos up so I kind of three you
through that time.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
Thank you.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
Yeah, Soul was beautiful, Taipei was amazing, and Taiwan as well.
I had a great trip of a lifetime. I was
with people who spoke Korean and spoke Mandarin, so I
mean I was.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
On easy mode. Uh.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
Very grateful for those folks and grateful for the trip
of a lifetime. The wedding was good. I was the
did I tell you I was the efficient of the wedding, Matt,
And I thought you did not. I got rave review
as the efficient of the wedding, So it was. It
was all Like I said, trip of a lifetime is
the easiest way to.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
Put it, and Lastly, we'll get to some other things
going on. But uh, security wise, did you feel safe
for you everywhere you went?
Speaker 1 (04:09):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (04:10):
Absolutely, Okay, Soul and Taipei are safer than Houston, Texas.
Let me just right right now. It's safer, cleaner, the
people are nicer. The food is better. No, the food's
I don't know if the food's better, but right right right,
the food is, let's say, healthier. But everything was Oh
my god, the public transit and Soul it maybe it
(04:30):
may be upset. The subway line is so fast and
so it's basically like the six ten loop. But if
that were a subway line and then a bunch of
cross cross lines to transfer from, it's so easy to use.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
It's so awesome.
Speaker 4 (04:42):
Yeah, well, good, I'm glad you had a good time.
Speaker 1 (04:43):
It's good. Dave back.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
Thank you to Dan Matthews, to Chris Gordy, to Brian
McTaggart who came in for a day.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
Brian mctagger. Brian McTaggart's how was that?
Speaker 4 (04:51):
No, I know, well, we just want the guys are shying.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
You guys got nineteen eighty three Cougars basketball the whole time,
didn't you.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
I mean that might have come up five or seven times.
I don't remember how many times a day. But you're
gonna be taking some more time off before the end
of the month. So trying to move some people around
a little.
Speaker 3 (05:07):
Bit, I've done saved up. Maybe I'll give four weeks.
I use four weeks.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
Let me tell you some daddy goes with the Rockets
to Vegas. I'm telling you you're not gonna hear from me.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
For a few days, right, So you're you're rooting hard
for the Rockets. Can you explain this to me? Like
I'm five? If they beat the Golden State Warriors, they
go to Vegas tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
Okay, so let me let me take you through this
a little bit of what happened last night. So the
Rockets were three and oh going into group play, and
this is the nd season tournament. They're calling it the
the NBA Cup, and it's brought to you by an
airline that doesn't spending money with us. They're not going
to sponsor plug. The Rockets were three and oh, they
had a huge point differential. So as long as things
(05:45):
kind of fell into place where the Rockets could either
beat the Kings, which are under five hundred or not
lose by a bunch or somebody doesn't beat somebody by
a whole bunch, then we're in good shape.
Speaker 4 (05:56):
We're going to host a home game. And this is
the each of the three groups have a.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
Winner, and then there's one wild card team the next
best record, and it comes down two point differential because
you're gonna have a lot of teams with just one loss.
So last night the Rockets just did not play well.
Defense was terrible, to couldn't shoot in the second half
to save their life. It was bad and they were
getting blown out. Meanwhile, earlier in the night, Oklahoma City
kicked the crap out of the Utah Jazz but like
(06:22):
almost thirty points. So this huge discrepancy we had in
the point differential was evaporated, and we were on the
verge of maybe hosting a one or a two seed
game to having to go on the road for this
NBA Knockout Round, which is next to Wednesday. Thankfully, the
Denver Nuggets beat the Golden State Warriors, kicking them out
(06:44):
to and putting them down to a three seed, bumping
us back to the two seed, and so we are
the two seed going to the knockout round next Wednesday
night where we will take on the Golden State.
Speaker 4 (06:54):
Warriors at Tota Center for an eight thirty start.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
Oh got it? Next Wednesday?
Speaker 4 (06:59):
Next Wednesday.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
Okay, we're playing the Warriors tomorrow here in San Francisco.
Speaker 3 (07:03):
That's why I was confused. But I got it now.
I think you fever catch it.
Speaker 1 (07:09):
I don't think people are catching it.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
Although I will say this, and you and I have
talked a lot about this, both on an off air,
the vibe in the Toiter Center has been lacking for five.
Speaker 4 (07:17):
Years for good reasons.
Speaker 2 (07:18):
Obviously, when the Rockets beat the Thunder on Sunday night,
that was the best the building in terms of energy
that we had in four or five seasons. That's great,
at least going for you. All Right, we got a
lot to get to. Like do we'd have to quiz
you about what you've missed while you I.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
Have no idea what's going on on every.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Do you know that Texas A and M lost to
your beloved school. Oh I saw that game, baby, I
was up.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
We Actually I went out drinking heavily the night before,
so only caught the second half.
Speaker 1 (07:46):
But I got you didn't miss much.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
It was absolutely for Aggie fans as disappointing as it
comes and nothing. I'm you know, I'm a Facebook real aholic, right, yes,
you know what that is. Well, they have a little
clips of it.
Speaker 3 (07:59):
Yeah yeah, m hmm. It's like their version of TikTok so.
Speaker 4 (08:03):
Their version of TikTok so.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
Here are what my clips are old Dallas episode clips.
Speaker 1 (08:08):
Mm hmm. Kirbyanenthrasiyasm Yeah, Taylor Mathis.
Speaker 2 (08:13):
Girls being interviewed on the street in New Orleans, Nashville,
Vegas talking about the types of sexual.
Speaker 4 (08:19):
Activity they have. I don't know how that happened, but
that's neither here nor there.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
And people that are Texas fans videoing the yell Leaders
before and during the game against Texas.
Speaker 1 (08:33):
Oh the yell leaders. What a classic.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
Now, I've told this to my son, my middle sun
painting for those of you who don't know who is
a fight in Texas aking. He loves the Akies all
the way through. He actually very understanding. He was at
the game on this past weekend. He look, he said,
Texas better.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
Than I said. Thank him that you haven't understood that.
I said.
Speaker 2 (08:51):
I love everything about your school. I love the culture.
I love the fact that you enjoy the being experienced,
I said, but the yell leaders are ridiculous. And he's like,
I get it, but you know, but I don't care.
So but there were they were super ridiculous this past week.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
Hook them horns, baby.
Speaker 2 (09:06):
They had forty thousand for their yell practice the day
before normally to midnight, Yelle Rossie.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
They headed at five thirty, oh, man, and and all
the players showed up at then then they lost. And man,
that's tough, all right.
Speaker 2 (09:20):
So your beloved Texans won a game, yes, and they
and one of your and one of the linebackers tried
to destroy Trevor Lawrence's brain.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (09:29):
I caught the condensed game. I'm gonna watch it again
in full, probably tonight.
Speaker 2 (09:33):
That has been highly and we had we carried a
Nick Assio press conference on this radio station.
Speaker 1 (09:38):
I heard Connor McGovern told me about the slip pop. Uh.
Speaker 2 (09:41):
Yeah, he slipped up I think twice, but one was
very blatant.
Speaker 1 (09:46):
It was.
Speaker 4 (09:47):
I mentioned this on the show to the audience yesterday.
Speaker 2 (09:49):
It was the most incredible thirty minutes of Nick Casserio's tenure.
I was not embarrassed that we carried Nick Asseria. Wow
for once he was fire and Brimstone.
Speaker 1 (09:59):
Mmmm.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
You know what, honestly, Ross, it's a fire and Brimstone Wednesday.
Because we come back, We're gonna let you hear what
Ema Doka said about the officials of last night escape.
Speaker 1 (10:08):
Oh man, what can we do? The over under on?
What is fine? It's gonna be. I had it at.
Speaker 4 (10:13):
Ten thousand yesterday. I don't know if that could.
Speaker 1 (10:17):
I'm going over. I think you're right when they need
to get don't tell him, don't tell him. This is
we call professional radio teas.
Speaker 4 (10:26):
Yeah, yeah, we gotta get you back to radio one
one on one.
Speaker 1 (10:28):
Ross. Oh stop, I thought.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
We're gonna hit our brakes on time. We're gonna let
the audience we're getting there. You know what's the worst
I'm hitting breaks is Dan Matthews. I mean, I can
believe that there's a zero surprise on that. All right,
our time is ten twelve. Ross is back in Houston.
I'm here in San Francisco. We have shut your ball
mess up. Ema dokab boy is gonna join us at
one thirty this afternoon. And I got even better news
for your Ross because we couldn't take phone calls yesterday
(10:53):
and this little stunny we had technical issues back in
the flag. Uh I already did believe it or not?
For you today, I'll thanks John Runyon hell.
Speaker 1 (11:02):
Yeah, oh John Runyon, Okay.
Speaker 2 (11:04):
Yeah, he's the uh. He was the penalty giver. He's
the he's the vice principal of the NFL.
Speaker 1 (11:10):
Okay, and he gave.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
Elsie's outshat here a three game suspension yesterday seven one
three two out.
Speaker 1 (11:15):
By the way, Connor of the phones working that night,
I have no idea phones are working. Let's go, baby,
let's go up next.
Speaker 4 (11:23):
How much is emai? I don't get it. Fine for
what he said ten thirteen on Sports Talk seven.
Speaker 5 (11:29):
Ninety more Matt Thomas now on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
Little little Jackson Brown for you here on Sports Talk
seven night, Doctor Min. I had seen they don't let
me hitting the post sports I noticed. I knew you
were gonna brag about two. I was gonna let you
come on, job of it.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
Let me have something thicking joy. All right, So last
night the Rockets did not play well. Do you see
the game or you or you would sleeping. I watched
some of the highlights.
Speaker 3 (12:08):
I'll be I'll watch the game in full today I
gotta I want to watch the Thunder game on watch.
Speaker 1 (12:12):
I got so much stuff. I know DVRs back line.
Speaker 2 (12:16):
Oh yeah, you're like minus six percent on your DVR.
Speaker 4 (12:19):
Oh yes, uh so, yeah.
Speaker 2 (12:22):
The the Rockets lost last night. Did not play well.
Daron Fox was great, Demonus a Bonus was good. Malik
Monk was. I mean, it was just a bad, bad night.
Couldn't shoot in second, I couldn't defend very well. And
there were a lot of chippy calls, ilegal screens, that
kind of stuff that just kind of draws the ire
of a coach. And there was a few times that uh,
(12:44):
Outbring Shing Goon got hit across the face. You had
Jalen Green got hit in the eye. There was nothing
done really about that.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
Uh. And at the.
Speaker 2 (12:52):
Very end of the game, with the game frankly out
of hand and maybe the Rockets already knowing that Golden
State lost to Denver and the number two seed for
them was captured.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
Em Dooka was not particularly pleased with how things went,
and he got tossed along with out Bria shan Gun.
It was back to back on the technical fouls. Both
guys got ejected. Then you had Tar east and going
to the stands after the game, which was never a
good thing when it comes to the rockets and history
when it's going into stands.
Speaker 1 (13:15):
Wait what and then yeah, sorry, Easton went into the stands.
Yeah he heard something and went full Russell Westbrook slash
verte of Maxwell. Yeah, I mean just our test. It's
kind of a rocket thing. I don't know. I mean
that happened a while, but it's kind of a rocket thing.
Speaker 6 (13:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (13:34):
And then Emyadoka spoke to the media and this is
we're gonna play in a game called how much is
he gonna get fined for this?
Speaker 1 (13:42):
What was going on? What did you see out there
on the FLOORID that you was disappointed?
Speaker 6 (13:46):
Misscalls blatant miss calls right in front of you. You know,
you call him to attack movie screens and look like that,
and then you don't want to call the obvious ones
right in front of you.
Speaker 7 (13:55):
So that was it.
Speaker 6 (13:56):
I hope you got fouled a few times on that
drive and on the layup and they don't want to
call it and some get some glasses open your eyes.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
Oh was my mind oping? Yes?
Speaker 3 (14:09):
So I love that, man, I just do if you
drop a get some bleeping glasses.
Speaker 1 (14:15):
Glasses.
Speaker 3 (14:20):
I don't think the fine process is gonna go well
for you. I just I just don't all.
Speaker 2 (14:25):
Right, So I initially said ten thousand dollars and you
think that's low?
Speaker 3 (14:29):
Huh, it feels low. I don't know if we're gonna
go like full on. What was it was one hundred
g's that Jeff van Gundy got fined back in the day.
Speaker 2 (14:37):
Okay, so you know he was named Coach of the
month yesterday. And I don't know if you get any award.
I think you get like a watch or something cool.
I mean, you get something, but it's nothing spectacular. And
maybe he has an incentive in his contract he gets
bonus just for that kind of stuff. I don't know,
but I did offer him. I did see him after
the game and I said, look, if you want to
start up a gofund me, I'll be happy to help.
Speaker 1 (14:57):
So he laughed, hm hmm.
Speaker 8 (15:01):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (15:02):
Fred van Vliet, last year, remember he confronted an official.
Speaker 1 (15:06):
That was a fifty k fine. That was last week.
I'm sorry that last year last week?
Speaker 2 (15:11):
Yeah, he he he went index finger on three officials
or sports RV.
Speaker 1 (15:16):
That's not good.
Speaker 4 (15:18):
Didn't get suspended thankfully.
Speaker 1 (15:21):
M M.
Speaker 2 (15:21):
The old the old class, the old e fing glasses
card is gonna.
Speaker 3 (15:25):
Yeah, I'm going, I'm going about it. I'm going well
over ten. I'm thinking probably closer to Fiddy.
Speaker 1 (15:31):
Yeah. I think you're probably right. He can afford it.
Oh he can.
Speaker 4 (15:35):
But damn that that's never a great text.
Speaker 1 (15:39):
Can you write that off as a charitable donation? Hey,
it's Joe Dumars from the UH from the NBA League office.
Oh hey, Joe, how are you? Man?
Speaker 2 (15:45):
I used to loving you were the microwave with the
piston you know, he was Bennie Johnson, that's Jojo.
Speaker 4 (15:50):
It was who's the microwave? Bennie Johnson over.
Speaker 3 (15:52):
Joe Finny the microwave Johnson.
Speaker 2 (15:55):
Okay, so Joe Dumers was just a great six man. Hey, Joe,
I used to love those pistons. Seems y'all. Are y'all
or some badasses y'all? Through you know, through hands when
you needed to, you push guys. You were dirty, But
you want Yeah, I don't care about that. Here's You're fine?
Pretty much. What's gonna happen? Isn't it crazy that the
two people in the sports today that are handing out
suspensions and fines. I mean, John Runney was a dirty
(16:18):
player for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Speaker 1 (16:20):
Those highlights are resurfacing, Yes, they are.
Speaker 2 (16:23):
As soon as the suspension came out. And you got
Joe dumars is one of the bad boys. Now he
was the nicest of the bad boys, but he was
still a bad boy.
Speaker 3 (16:29):
Yeah, you're on the team guilty by association.
Speaker 2 (16:33):
And I think kek Vanduwa. I don't if he's still
with the league or not, but he was used to
be a guy that handed out finds. And Kiki wasn't
a bad guy. By the way, you can't be a
bad guy. And your name is Kiki.
Speaker 1 (16:42):
Kiki Vandawah is one of the great all time NBA names.
I think, Oh my god, how good is that?
Speaker 2 (16:47):
I mean, when you're nine years old, you made fun
of your name is Keky and then you knock down
jumpers from thirty feet.
Speaker 1 (16:53):
Uh yeah, I'm fine, get away from me. Yeah classic.
Oh yeah.
Speaker 2 (16:59):
An By the way, speaking of the tech of John Runyon,
they're gonna have the appeals process today as.
Speaker 4 (17:04):
A matter of fact, on one I understand.
Speaker 1 (17:05):
So, uh, what do you think is gonna happen on
that what are the what are the folks talking about
with that? Is it gonna get? Is it gonna get
like one game reduced? Maybe? Well, we'll talk about that
in the next segment.
Speaker 2 (17:16):
But but yeah, I'm I'm I'll be very curious to
see what they do. They're gonna do it via zoom apparently,
and I'm not gonna do it in person. Uld Loss
appeals dinner in person. Remember that one time that Brian
Cushing got suspended, this one the show first began because
he was pregnant, and then Bob McNair went up to
go talk to Roger Goodell's see if can get the
Cushing suspension came.
Speaker 1 (17:33):
You should be more clear about that. It was what
was it? Human gonadotropin? Oh, that's what you wanted me
to say. You want me to say human?
Speaker 3 (17:42):
Good he he had was he was busting for steroids.
Speaker 1 (17:48):
And then he tried to go with the overtrained athlete syndrome.
Speaker 4 (17:51):
No, apparently he was pregnant.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
No, man, he would he was not pregnant. Well, didn't
have a mister mom situation.
Speaker 2 (17:57):
I'm telling you, if I google Brian Cushing pregnant, I
guarantee you I'll find a.
Speaker 3 (18:02):
Story Okay, well, yeah, that was our guy.
Speaker 1 (18:06):
What was it, Bill Romanowski? I might still have those drops.
It comes from the urine of pregnant women. It's like, okay, thanks, by.
Speaker 4 (18:12):
The way, did you what did you just call it?
Speaker 1 (18:14):
Again? Human something? Gonadotropin? Now, how did you did you
just remember? Remember that? Or did you look that up? No?
I remember? How do you remember that? I don't know?
Here a hold on. It comes from the urine of
pregnant women. Yeah, so Brian was pregnant pregnant women.
Speaker 3 (18:39):
It was Bill Romanowski and radio rode. Way back in
the day when that happened.
Speaker 4 (18:43):
Man, we used to get good guests on radio.
Speaker 1 (18:44):
Ray come bat. We've gotten some good guests over the year.
Speaker 4 (18:48):
We got ed Too Tall Jones and Harvey Martin and another.
Speaker 1 (18:52):
Ex Hey you hain't none too tall legendary, Too Tall.
Speaker 2 (18:55):
Jones legendary to the nineteen seventy eight Dallas cowboy fan.
Speaker 1 (18:58):
Yeah, your audience.
Speaker 2 (19:01):
Meanwhile, Gordy is interviewing like Joe Montana and uh Ammitt
Smith and and uh these supermodels. And meanwhile we're getting
like a backup linebackers from the first Carolina Panther team.
Speaker 1 (19:15):
He's got a loan like the ghost of Vince Lombardi.
Speaker 2 (19:18):
Ray Lucas nine straight years in a row about suicide prevention.
Speaker 1 (19:21):
Oh man, it's really depressing. Sorry, Ray, Yeah, sorry, Ray,
we're really bringing it down. We're using your interview from
six years ago.
Speaker 2 (19:30):
When you're out with this last Oh well, all right, uh, Ted,
twenty seven is our time. It is the Matt Thomas
Show with Ross and it's Ross is nice to have
back with us here on seven ninty. We've got email
Docia coming up at one thirty today. I wonder I
don't know if he'll know his punishment, but we can
certainly ask.
Speaker 1 (19:48):
No, you'd probably leave them alone on that.
Speaker 2 (19:50):
Yeah, I think I'm gonna say, hey, Man, whatever happens happened,
I got your back.
Speaker 1 (19:53):
Man.
Speaker 4 (19:53):
I just want to say I got your back.
Speaker 1 (19:55):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (19:55):
We we're going to talk about get Ross's thoughts on
the outshore here and three game suspension.
Speaker 1 (20:01):
Will it be reduced?
Speaker 2 (20:02):
There's a lot of social media conversations saying that he's
probably gonna get it reduced.
Speaker 4 (20:06):
We'll talk more about that in a moment.
Speaker 2 (20:07):
Ten twenty seven Sports Talk seven Hunty, Ross, I know
you're feeling great, but others might not.
Speaker 3 (20:12):
Yes, it might be need to lose a little weight.

Speaker 9 (21:01):
And we've talked to the league quite frankly, but we
don't have a good explanation. Tomiko talked to him yesterday,
So I mean it is what it is. I'm sure
Azz will go through whatever process he's going to go through,
and then we'll deal with it accordingly. But I think
what we take umbrage is is just the picture that's
been painted about disease, his intentions, who he is as
a person. I mean, it's quite frankly, and it's unfair
(21:23):
to the individual.
Speaker 1 (21:24):
It's unfair of the organization.
Speaker 9 (21:26):
I mean, we love everything about Aziz all shy here,
what he means to this team, what he brings.
Speaker 1 (21:29):
To this to this team.
Speaker 9 (21:31):
He was elected a captain after being here for four months.
Speaker 2 (21:37):
Like I said yesterday, you know how I feel about
playing Nick Cassio's stom bites and or press conferences, But
yesterday Sports Harvey.
Speaker 4 (21:44):
It was a it was a different Nikki Ce in
front of that toodium.
Speaker 1 (21:47):
That's yeah, fiery Nick Cassio.
Speaker 3 (21:52):
Yes, it takes his player knocking somebody clean out of
a game and getting suspended.
Speaker 1 (21:57):
That's what it took after all these years.
Speaker 2 (21:59):
Yeah, I said, finally did the word salad was at
a bare minimum.
Speaker 1 (22:03):
Now. There was a bunch of fun media questions after
and know, like what do you think about Joe Bixon's
please so far this year? What do you think dumb
asses is really good? He's playing really well. Yeah, I'm
a genius. Thanks Nick.
Speaker 2 (22:17):
So the number one thing that I think basically that
is really pissing everybody off is the last sentence of
the John Runyon statement yesterday. And you guys can have
seen it by now, but I don't want to continue
repeating it. But I think this is where Running at
least is getting dragged nationally.
Speaker 4 (22:36):
And can talk with you know after the show yesterday.
Speaker 2 (22:38):
You know, I'm in the Pacific time zoneside a couple
hours in between getting ready for the game and whatnot.
But I was watching all the NFL shows, kind of
getting the national field of things. And here was the
last sentence from the John Runyon statement, your continued disregard
for NFL playing rules.
Speaker 1 (22:52):
Excuse me, just cough. O can't wait to read it.
I'll read it.
Speaker 3 (22:56):
You're continued disregard for NFL playing rules puts the health
and safety of both you and your opponents in jeopardy
and will not be tolerated.
Speaker 2 (23:06):
And before that, he says, your lack of sportsmanship and
respect for the game of football and those who play,
coach at enjoy watching it is troubling and does not
reflect the core values of the NFL.
Speaker 3 (23:15):
I mean, that's like very heavy handed preaching soapboxing right there.
Speaker 2 (23:21):
And I think I got you know, there's an NFL
live show that's on right after our show, I think
is what it is.
Speaker 1 (23:26):
And they were like, wait a minute, was it a
dirty hit? Yes? Was it? Maybe? Was it worthy of
being ejected? Sure?
Speaker 2 (23:34):
Was the fight after that making it look like an
ugly situation got agar?
Speaker 4 (23:38):
Absolutely? Is there worthy of a suspension?
Speaker 1 (23:40):
Sure?
Speaker 2 (23:41):
But the national perspective, and that's just national perspective, and
I mean it's the right one, but the national perspective
ross is that John Runyon took this to a new
level yesterday with the last two sentences of that statement.
Speaker 1 (23:53):
Yeah, I is this like trying to Are they making
an example of him?
Speaker 3 (23:58):
Are they trying to limit this around the league? That's
kind of what it feels like to me, is that
they're they're putting all this strong, heavy handed statement to
like someone not necessarily as much as admonishing as he's
alsha here, but also just making a statement towards the
league like this type of activity is not going.
Speaker 1 (24:12):
To be tolerated. You guys need to cut this out.
Speaker 4 (24:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (24:15):
My thought was, and you know I have not discussed, uh,
he should have been ejected, and he was the fight
afterwards on the sideline and whatnot that didn't certainly help
the cause. I felt like the Monday after the game
that he was going to get suspended for one game.
Three to me is a massive surprise. And like I said,
the reaction of the last two sentences, that statement that
John run you put out has got a lot of
(24:36):
people thinking that maybe the NFL is trying to make
Alshair an example and that that's not their responsibility. You
don't make examples. You have to talk about and discuss
and find what is in front of you, not saying,
hey we got a poster child for hey we can't
let our quarterback Skain get Yeah.
Speaker 1 (24:54):
I when I first saw the hit, I think I
was with some people who said that it was it's
a bang bang play. These guys are flying all for
the field.
Speaker 3 (25:05):
But I mean when you think about it and we
watch it a few more times, and really I think
the best way to continue to watch it is in
fast motion slow motion. You just as slow motion. It
gives you a lot more time to think than Aziz
al shah here had. But I still think he definitely
lowered the boom on on Trevor Lawrence. It was definitely
a dirty hit.
Speaker 1 (25:22):
Dude.
Speaker 3 (25:23):
Yeah, if he thought he wasn't gonna slide and he
was gonna he would have tried to wrap him up.
He literally sees him going down and then like he
tried to knock him out of that game. There's no
doubt in my mind if you asked if you got
like truth serum on Aziz al sha here, he tried
to knock him out of that game intentionally, he should
have been ejected.
Speaker 1 (25:40):
I think a game suspension sounds about right. If this
gets appealed, if they put it for three kind of
knowing it was going to get appealed down to two
and that's what happens.
Speaker 3 (25:48):
That to me feels about right as well. I don't
think I don't think you can do what he just did.
And knowing that this is this is a league that
is going to protect its quarterbacks that all costs and
tried to prevent this behavior and make an example out
of disease, I think absolutely two games is it just
feels about right for the state of the league.
Speaker 2 (26:07):
Well, yesterday Cassara's you heard the comments, was very upset
about the characterization of Alsi's as a person. That's what
the intent of the last few sentence of that running statement.
Speaker 4 (26:17):
What I was bothered by yesterday.
Speaker 2 (26:20):
Was Dimko really placing more responsibility in Trevor Lawrence. And
I know that there are some people that are saying
that Pat Mahomes takes liberties with the slide and that
he slides late blah blah blah blah blah, and that
might need to be address ross that may be a
serious concern.
Speaker 1 (26:35):
I think it does. But what really really bothered.
Speaker 2 (26:38):
Me was that Demiko was upset about the reaction from
the Jacksonville sideline and the players on the field. I mean,
come and to me, I have a tremendous amount of
respect for Tomiko. But if there weren't forty players ready
to beat ow serious ass after that play, then.
Speaker 1 (26:55):
There had been something wrong. Yeah, I think I just.
Speaker 2 (26:58):
I that to me was the worst part of this
whole beyond the hit itself, was that you went from
right after the game on Sunday, Demikos saying we don't condone,
that we don't hope it's okay, and that you know,
we'll talk to Al's sheets about this. And two I
had a chance to look at it and man, Jacksonville overreacted.
Speaker 1 (27:17):
There is never a.
Speaker 2 (27:18):
Term in this entire situation in the last seventy two
hours where the term Jacksonville overreaction should have ever been discussed.
Speaker 1 (27:24):
No, I totally agree.
Speaker 3 (27:25):
I think a very very easy way to think about
this and when these types of situations happen is is
imagine C. J. Stroud is going in for a slide
the exact same way that Trevor Lawrence is and gets
clocked the way that did he did that Trevor Lawrence did.
You would be you would think nobody has his back.
If people didn't get up and and I basically start
(27:46):
a ruck is like they did Jacksonville Jaguars, And what
they did was defending their guy.
Speaker 1 (27:50):
It was they weren't out of line at all to me,
all right.
Speaker 2 (27:53):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven nine. If you
want to get lots of stuff to get to today
on the show, and we'll start today with Tony and
Sugarland at ten thirty nine about Thomas Show with Ross Tony, good.
Speaker 1 (28:04):
Morning, good morning to them. Hey not and listen.
Speaker 10 (28:08):
I don't want to in any way shape on a
fashion take the sting out of you guys's comments.
Speaker 1 (28:12):
But I think you guys.
Speaker 10 (28:13):
Are taking what what Domko said totally out of content
and ross. Listen, you are the reason why bro, that
people are you know that? That to me, I believe
the NFL made the decision they made it. Listened, pressure
busts of pipe. I think that calling that a dirty
hit is the start of it. Listen. Let me just
(28:33):
let me just say this because I don't think anybody
is saying this. It's the heat was so he was Listen,
Isaia was not. He was not ejected because of the hit.
He was ejected because of the aftermath. That's what he
was ejected for. He was not injected because of the
Yet listen, if it wasn't it checked it out. Listen
to what I'm saying here, though, Dude, after all of that,
it was thirty and one. Bro, it was a third
(28:55):
and one. You know why because the penalties off set
It wasn't. It wasn't and it had nothing to do
with that. What happened was the reason why. The reason
why was it was thirty one thirty one After all
of that, it was thirty one. That's what That's what
the that's what the referees are saying within the rules
inside of the game. If you consider it being such
a dirty hit, they would have notated that in the game.
(29:16):
Did the Regeree's never say it that Aziah is being
ejected because of the hit. No, they basically said, penalty's
offset one guy. One guy's been injected, another guy's been ejected.
Speaker 1 (29:27):
It is thirty one. So the hit on our zero.
Speaker 10 (29:30):
Really and truly, at the end of the day, wasn't
as bad as you guys are trying to make it seem.
Speaker 1 (29:36):
That is patently ridiculous. Tony is the third. I'm just
talking about this.
Speaker 10 (29:42):
I'm just talking about the game.
Speaker 2 (29:43):
I don't care if it was third and twenty six
or second and five. He went forearm to Trevor Lawrence's head.
It was a dirty hit. Doesn't mean he's the one
beating in the world.
Speaker 1 (29:53):
Doesn't mean that.
Speaker 2 (29:54):
It isn't happens to get a second chance. Doesn't mean
that the three game suspension is worthy, because I don't
think it was. But that wasn't clean. He got ejected
for the head.
Speaker 1 (30:05):
The after the half, the math of it. Everything I'm
reading says officials ejected.
Speaker 3 (30:10):
I'll share for an illegal hit to the quarterbacks head
and neck area. That's like, that's the official ejection.
Speaker 1 (30:15):
You're you are not reaching it.
Speaker 11 (30:18):
Maybe it may be.
Speaker 10 (30:19):
It may be what they actually put in the actual
outline of what happened after the you know, after this
whole thing rolled out, But it wasn't within the lines
of the game. That's not why they ejected it.
Speaker 1 (30:30):
You're not, No, Tony, You're wrong. I'm sorry. You're wrong.
You're not. You're not. You're you're putting out information that
is erroneous. Ross just ready, No, I'm not.
Speaker 10 (30:39):
I'm just talking about the game. I'm talking about the
within the game guy, I'm not talking about what they
did after the fact. I'm talking about within the lines
of the game.
Speaker 1 (30:48):
Have been injected from that game. I seriously think that.
Speaker 10 (30:52):
I think that I think that would have happened if
that wasn't a fight.
Speaker 1 (30:55):
Gentlemen, here's what would have happened.
Speaker 10 (30:56):
He would have they would have reviewed it like they
reviewed it after the fact, and he would have gave
him either a final ability. They was not going to ejectim, dentleman,
you can.
Speaker 1 (31:05):
You cannot give a final the minimal football game. I'm sorry,
this is going Hold on here's oh, I got the
hold on, hold on, hold on, ross, I got I
got the referees of Mike here, okay, good personal foul
on detections. Was it in Razero? Right? Yes, Bero.
Speaker 2 (31:24):
Ship to the head penalty is twenty three thousand, seventy
four dollars still first down, payable immediately.
Speaker 1 (31:31):
Yeah. Yeah, we need your we need your Zell, we
need your Vemo. We're gonna take it out of your
money if you want to stay in the game. Come on.
Speaker 2 (31:40):
He was tossed because of the hit. The suspension goes
with the hit, and it goes as as uh. John
Runyon said things exacerbated two different times, once after the
play with the fight took place, and then as he's
leaving the field. There was video evidence of him continuing
the conversation and trying to start ano alter.
Speaker 3 (32:00):
You know what my kind of favorite part about it
is is right after the hit, he throws his hands up, like,
why am I getting penalized?
Speaker 1 (32:05):
Like you can you crushed him into the ground? Yeah,
I mean, come on, Tremor Lawrence is like wriggling on
the ground. He's like, what's the penalty for not moving?
Has no idea where he is he thinks he's back
at Clemson. He's asking for a haircut. Well he probably
should ask for that anyway, but that's a different issue
(32:26):
for a different time.
Speaker 2 (32:27):
I mean, come on the gang, let's let's let's not
re let's not recreate history on this again. Three game
suspension for me, I think is overboard, and I mentioned on.
Speaker 4 (32:36):
Gut feelings, yesh day, I don't think it's gonna change.
Speaker 1 (32:39):
I hope I'm wrong about that, but I I uh.
Speaker 2 (32:41):
Because it sounds like to me there is a lot
of national vibe towards Runyon made it way more personal
than should have been. Ten forty three Sports Talk seven
ninety Ross Matt with you here until two o'clock this afternoon.

Speaker 5 (34:06):
Matt Thomas now on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (34:14):
Bat here in San Francisco, Ross Back in our Houston studios.
Connor McGovern is our producer. By the way, Ross could
be very proud of Connor. He handled the NFL rewind
and the Rotten Five the last few weeks. The tradition continues.
We moved on to different.
Speaker 1 (34:26):
People, though well. Ross stepped out for a second.
Speaker 12 (34:29):
But I'm I'm I'm sure he'll congratulate me and tell
me how good of a job I did when he
comes back.
Speaker 1 (34:34):
He didn't pay one bit of attention to the not
going back to the podcast, none of that state. He
didn't say thank you or nothing. No, no, no, hey, what's.
Speaker 2 (34:40):
Happening we were I was just telling you how great
Connor did with the Rotten Five in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (34:46):
Oh we did. Yoh yeah, I was listening to the podcast.
Speaker 2 (34:50):
I just exactly said. I said, there's no chance you
listened to the podcast under any circumstance. You're such a fraud.
At least you're these you're the same person before you left.
Speaker 1 (34:59):
That's true. Thanks all right, Best food you had while
you were gone, best best single dish, that's hard. I'm
just gonna go with Korean barbecue. I guess, uh the
last week.
Speaker 3 (35:10):
I mean, I eat Korean barbecue like five times in
a week over there.
Speaker 1 (35:13):
Yeah, dude, when.
Speaker 3 (35:14):
You're in Asia, you eat and then you go walk
somewhere to eat, and then you go eat after that.
It's like you just eat the whole time and everything
is so good. So it's hard for me to say.
I mean, I had a lot of the soups. There
was this there was this chicken dish called duck golby,
which is like spicy.
Speaker 1 (35:30):
Chicken noodles, and then they put rice on. Oh, it
was so good.
Speaker 3 (35:34):
I'm gonna go with I'll just go with the good
old fashion Korean barbecue, like the pork we had on
the last day.
Speaker 2 (35:39):
It was perfect, all right. And the scenery there.
Speaker 1 (35:43):
Scenery was great.
Speaker 3 (35:44):
Uh Taiwan if you go like Ali Sean in the
mountains of Taiwan was beautiful.
Speaker 13 (35:49):
That.
Speaker 4 (35:49):
I wasn't talking about that kind of scene.
Speaker 3 (35:50):
Oh okay, yeah, the tall buildings, the city views.
Speaker 1 (35:55):
No, that's fine.
Speaker 4 (35:56):
I know what. I know what downtown buildings look like.
Speaker 1 (35:57):
Oh I don't get it. What's the iner Oh the museums, yeah,
the art museum.
Speaker 4 (36:03):
Museums before I know what museums look like.
Speaker 1 (36:05):
Uh okay, you're talking about the ladies. Well, I mean
I think I'm gonna tell you. Look on the show,
I want to know.
Speaker 3 (36:12):
I don't know if I'm gonna get some heat for this, Matt,
but I'm gonna give you my true and real observations
because that's what I do on this show.
Speaker 1 (36:18):
Yes, I felt like.
Speaker 3 (36:22):
In Korea it was a little bit more of a
vanity driven society, Like there was a lot of plastic surgery.
They're really into cosmetics over there and that type of
stuff and like perfect teeth and looking perfect, and I
just I'm not super down with that.
Speaker 1 (36:39):
I if I could just say to the ladies out there,
you're beautiful the way you are, okay, don't be getting
a bunch of puffed up lips and getting the same
nose as everybody and all that, Like, just be yourself,
just enhance who you are.
Speaker 3 (36:49):
And I just felt like that wasn't the case necessarily
in Korea. While well, I felt of course, they're pretty
girls everywhere, I just felt like it was a little
too much of a vanity society. Taiwan felt like more
down to earth in Taipei as well.
Speaker 4 (37:04):
How far is the flight from Korea to Taipei?
Speaker 1 (37:07):
Two hours? That's not bad? No, And I went on
Meva Marilines.
Speaker 3 (37:15):
They get dude, they give They gave me a straight
up meal, like I got a hot meal on that
two hour flight, by the way, Yes, it was good too.
It was chicken and rice there and on the way back.
I can't even remember what it was, but it was
good too. It was beef noodles.
Speaker 1 (37:27):
Beef noodles on the way back, like a hot, hot
meal in a two hour flight. That's stunning. I don't know.
Speaker 3 (37:34):
Yeah, and the people were nice and taking care of
each other. They were clean. The craziest thing about Asia
to me was that every street is super clean and
there's no trash cans anywhere. If you had like a
bottle of water you need to throw away, you had
to like walk a mile to find a trash can.
Speaker 2 (37:48):
All right, let's go to Raine sugar Land before the
top of the hour on seven, Ati Ray, thanks for holding.
Speaker 1 (37:52):
Good morning. Hi uh, good morning guys.
Speaker 11 (37:57):
I've been listening to this for a couple of days.
Speaker 1 (37:59):
I watched game. I watched the hit. I've been playing
at slow mo past mo.
Speaker 11 (38:03):
I do believe that it was an illegal hit. I
do believe that he should have been fined. I do
believe that he probably should have been ejected I'm a
little questionable on should he be, you know, punished by
not having to play another game. But I'm not really
even concerned about any of those because those are out
of out of our controuble. But the one thing I
(38:26):
want to let you guys know is this, I've heard
you say this morning. I definitely disagree with you when
the Miko said that the guys overreacted. I'm going to
tell you where he's coming from. We have the police
on the field as a referee, so when he did
(38:46):
the bad hit, the referees are supposed to go over
throw the flag, give him his fine whatever, not fine,
but tell him he's ejected.
Speaker 1 (38:55):
He's out of the game.
Speaker 11 (38:57):
If you allowed the other team for guys to go
jump on our guy and beat the hell out of him,
then we can't clear our bitch because we're on the
opposite side of the field. We're on their side of
the field. So they got forty guys on eleven guys.
So that fight is not ever supposed to happen. And
(39:18):
that's where this is not pad feels them. Of course,
that fight is never supposed to happen. The referees are
the be all end all, so them jumping on our
guys leads me to believe that now our guys can
jump on their guys, so it will never end. Fans
will come out of the stands. So I disagree with
you on that. Everything else I'm cool with. But the
(39:39):
referees have to be the law because we can't. We
can't do it any other way. That's all I got.
Speaker 2 (39:45):
Ray, You're absolutely right that referees have to be the
law enforcement.
Speaker 1 (39:50):
I get it.
Speaker 2 (39:51):
But the emotions of a very physical football game with
a very very vicious hit, it's just a lot easier
said than done. I've never played in a professional football game.
I've never played anything athletically to that level. But let's
be really honest, in the heat of the moment, you're
just gonna let a bunch of guys in Zebra uniforms say, oh,
(40:12):
they'll handle it for us, No chance, no way. Know
how one of your brothers gets hit in a vicious
way and is laid out on a field and it's
not moving. It is a natural and totally understandable, now
maybe not justifiable, but understandable reaction to what happened, and
(40:33):
if it would have happened to CJ.
Speaker 1 (40:34):
And I know that. People are like, well, you can't
always go to that, Yeah you can. C J.
Speaker 2 (40:38):
Strow gets laid out like that and gets pummeled. If
Laramie Tunsel and Nico Collins and Joe Mixon aren't there
ready to karate thrust kick some people, I'd have a
problem with it.
Speaker 1 (40:50):
You're calling good karate kicks. No, but you're right.
Speaker 3 (40:54):
I mean it just I would be if it didn't happen,
every talking head show would be like, why don't the
Jaguars have Trevor Lawrence's back?
Speaker 1 (41:02):
Why don't they care about their teammates.
Speaker 3 (41:04):
It's it's more and I'll even say justifiable than it
did happen.
Speaker 2 (41:08):
We had people when c. DE Straw was getting his
ass kicked for two three games in the middle of it.
Was it last season when Laramie Tunssel wouldn't go pick
him up. You're like, what's wrong with Laramie? Why is
it a going over there? You have to have your brother,
you have to have your you have to have your guy.
Speaker 3 (41:21):
Oh yeah, that one was stupid because Laramie hadn't even
seen Laramie couldn't even see that he was down. He
was like downfield or something that that person was an idiot.
Speaker 1 (41:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (41:29):
Uh, look, I don't want fights on the field like that.
I'm not saying that. We don't want violence that's gonna
go get into the stands. We don't want that. Nobody's
endorsing that. But in the in the heat of the moment,
you see your brother get laid out like that. Oh
hell yeah, you're gonna rent. It's just it's a lot
easier said than done. And you can replay it. You
(41:51):
can watch it slum oh, you can watch it in
fast mo. And Demiko's wrong, and Demiko and it's okay.
We're not always going to be right about opinions. And
if dimiko's listening right now, which I know he's probably not,
he's about to say, Matt, you're wrong, or Ross you're wrong,
It's okay. We can we can choose to disagree. I'm
just telling you that anybody that has a big injury
(42:12):
on a field or a baseball team, or if a
guy gets beaned or a guy gets a cheap shot
in a basketball game or taken down, what's the natural reaction.
It's not let's let the officials, the referees, the white
guys that are slow moving, that are fifty eight years.
Speaker 4 (42:26):
Old handling this.
Speaker 2 (42:28):
We're gonna take make sure our guy gets protected, and
I will fully expect the Texans to do the exact
same thing if it would have happened to C. J.
Speaker 1 (42:34):
Stroud. Let's get the.
Speaker 2 (42:36):

State Warriors, but that's not the game that will be
the n season tournament.
Speaker 1 (45:05):
As I'm just learning this as I go along.
Speaker 3 (45:07):
Next Wednesday, the Rockets will Holtz host the Golden State
Warriors in the NBA Cup is what we're calling it
these days.
Speaker 1 (45:15):
But it'll be regular action tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (45:17):
And then yesterday the loss disappointing to the Sacramento Kings
one twenty to one eleven. As they continue to go
along and really haven't talked a whole lot about the
state of the Texans and where we're feeling. It's been
feels like it's been more Ausi's al Shaier rather than
the team at large.
Speaker 2 (45:33):
Matthew, Yeah, it has been and the reality is another
one score game.
Speaker 4 (45:37):
Ross, You didn't miss much while you were gone.
Speaker 1 (45:39):
Yeah, a lot of onas the disappointing.
Speaker 3 (45:43):
Now I watch the Cowboys game. Wasn't a one score game.
That was a nice blowout and in a second half
touchdown too, don't. Yeah, let's go baby. And I mean
I saw people I was kind of keeping tabs on
Twitter a little bit. I mean, were you one of
the ones calling that a bad win? You can have
a thirty four to ten bad win?
Speaker 1 (46:00):
You No, I didn't call it that at all, Okay,
or unsatisfying or something like that, don't. I said, are
you satisfied? And people were like, no, I'm not satisfied
at thirty four to ten, You're not satisfied. What do
they want to? What one more more do you want
on the road? Correct? They will? Well? I mean yeah,
it was Dallas. It was fine, you know who had
not won a home game to show who? Then they
beat the Camp Commanders the next week right in Washington too. Yeah. Uh.
(46:24):
The reality The reality is this uh. And the Cowboys,
by headway have no one.
Speaker 2 (46:28):
They won them Thanksgiving Day so that's good for them.
I said this before, and i'll I think I per
cent us for a month now, Rossie, they need to
beat Baltimore and or Kansas City and the city will
get juiced up again for the team.
Speaker 1 (46:40):
Sure that it's that's that's where that that's where the
state of the of the football team is in this
town right now. So nobody's juiced. All right, let's ask
I don't know I'm asking. I'm I'm asking. I'm asking,
Houston Texans. Let's go right now. Okay, are you juiced
for the Houston Texas and.
Speaker 3 (46:56):
Brian Cushing Ganada troping type of way or some other
kind of way?
Speaker 1 (47:01):
Again, I don't know how you pulled that out of
your ass, but you did. You only got a bunch
of rent. I can't remember why two days ago and.
Speaker 2 (47:09):
You're bringing up some foreign chemicals. I haven't heard of that,
But I had four years.
Speaker 3 (47:12):
I can remember that, but I can't remember like why
I got up off the couch and go to the kitchen.
Speaker 1 (47:16):
So so it goes. You can't remember to do believe
or not every day? But yeah, you brought are we
doing that today? I already get it done, see I
forgot he's already done short term memory issues. Matt so
hell tell Ross ladies, Jim better right his back with
a suit. Are you juiced for the Texans seven.
Speaker 2 (47:34):
One three two one two five seven ninety seven one
three two one two five seven nine zero. Are you
juiced for the Houston Texas Is a simple question. Either
yes or no, or you can go.
Speaker 1 (47:45):
Man.
Speaker 2 (47:46):
My philosophy is, I think the people will start to
get fired up one if they can beat now Baltimore
did lose at home this week, uh to uh Philadelphia,
And let me tell you, gang.
Speaker 1 (47:57):
They've lost five times.
Speaker 2 (47:59):
They've they're human now, They're really still, really, really good,
and I'd be definitely afraid. I look rossly, they'd be
a favorite in Houston in the playoff game.
Speaker 1 (48:07):
I would agree with that slight.
Speaker 4 (48:09):
But if the playoffs are to now, I believe the
Chargers would be coming to Houston, Texas.
Speaker 3 (48:14):
That feels winnable. Chargers are good, justin Hubber's decent JK.
Dobbins is heard correct, Okay, because I know somebody in
our fantasy league was complaining about injuries.
Speaker 4 (48:26):
Yeah, I know why.
Speaker 1 (48:27):
This is my last fantasy football Come on this week?
Are you serious? It's it, it's over. This is it.
Speaker 2 (48:33):
You should play some, Sarah, But no, we have two
more weeks. I think we play a fifteen week season
or fourteen.
Speaker 1 (48:39):
I thought it was fifteen in playoffs?
Speaker 3 (48:40):
Are the sixteen and seventeen because of the extended season.
Speaker 1 (48:43):
Oh that's right, Okay, okay, so I'm down to two weeks.
Come on, man, you gotta come back. Weill remember fantasy.
Speaker 3 (48:51):
Well, we can't lose our two weakest players in the league,
You and Adam, I think.
Speaker 4 (48:55):
The weakest players. I'm just I'm not interested. I'm not
enjoying it.
Speaker 1 (48:59):
The league's gonna be tough for next year. We've just
lost our two weakest players. Man, this is tough.
Speaker 4 (49:03):
I'm not that there's many more weaker players than me,
and you know that.
Speaker 1 (49:06):
You're just saying it's definitely you and Clinton. This is tough.
I'm very upset. Now.
Speaker 2 (49:11):
By the way, Ross, would you like Clanton to get
you some coffee on the way into the office today?
Speaker 1 (49:16):
Uh? When's he gonna be here? I don't know find
out cinema text? Oh did he textas? Or has this
been pre discussed as a It's an off.
Speaker 3 (49:24):
Air, But I'm feeling Okay, I have no idea. I'm
feeling remarkably good for the considering. It's like two am
Soul Korea time. I'm feeling great.
Speaker 4 (49:31):
Well, I've had my third cup of coffee in seventy
five minutes.
Speaker 3 (49:34):
So I had two cups of coffee and I'm on.
I'm on the tea. Now we're on too, Earl Gray.
Speaker 4 (49:39):
Yeah, Team T is not bad after multiple coffees.
Speaker 3 (49:42):
I agree, it smooths it out. It's like a pull
on a parachute for a soft landing mat.
Speaker 4 (49:48):
I don't know if I'd have gone that direction, but
that feels appropriate.
Speaker 1 (49:51):
That's fine. I did it. That's not a great analogy,
that's something I would have probably had said. That's fine.
That's fine.
Speaker 2 (49:58):
By the way, every analogy that damn man Fuse has
with us and we love Dan, is a reference to
a movie and we have a new a movie we
hadn't seen, so when no, there were movies we had seen.
So anytime anytime Dan brought up a movie, we brought
Jalen Rose out.
Speaker 1 (50:11):
Oh really, dang, yes, okay, that's cool.
Speaker 2 (50:15):
It kind of became a bit and every time you'd say,
you know that I was watching dumb and dumber.
Speaker 3 (50:18):
And you know Jalen's I heard it's been Dan talk
seven ninety he's been like eight hours a day.
Speaker 4 (50:23):
Yeah, you're gonna be owing him like ten Rockets raps.
Speaker 1 (50:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (50:28):
Let's got good games coming up.
Speaker 1 (50:29):
That's good. I'm looking forward to working those.
Speaker 4 (50:32):
Golden State. You don't have a show tomorrow, no post
game tomorrow nine because.
Speaker 1 (50:34):
It's a late game. And then you've got the game against.
Speaker 2 (50:36):
The Clippers on Sunday and then Golden State on Wednesday.
Speaker 1 (50:42):
It's gonna be good. We got some good games. Can wait.
Speaker 2 (50:45):
And if the Rockets beat Golden State, not tomorrow but
next Wednesday, that is going to Vegas.
Speaker 3 (50:50):
Oh, it's not all about you, Matt. It's about the
team and going for the NBA Cup.
Speaker 2 (50:54):
No, frankly, it's about me. Because they're gonna have a
chance to split a half million. I'll get zero that
a second probably.
Speaker 1 (51:00):
Save you money if you don't go to Vegas, though,
that's true.
Speaker 2 (51:03):
Seven one three two one two five sevenati seven one
three two one two five. By looking the callis Rossie.
People are noticed about the Texans.
Speaker 1 (51:11):
There's zero people juiced about that. There's zero people on
the line.
Speaker 3 (51:16):
They could have been better at the end of the game,
but it looked like they were gonna blow.
Speaker 1 (51:19):
Out the Jaguars for a little while.
Speaker 3 (51:20):
I think the explosive plays, right, that's gotta be the
is that the number one talking point. They're just giving
up two when they're not giving up fifty yard touchdowns.
Speaker 1 (51:28):
They're stopping everyone had.
Speaker 2 (51:29):
Too much success when he replaced Trevor Lawrence. That's the
honest truth.
Speaker 3 (51:33):
Seriously, Trevor Lawrence, by the way, I mean, he's been
playing with a bad shoulders.
Speaker 4 (51:37):
He's still bad.
Speaker 1 (51:38):
Yes, not good.
Speaker 2 (51:40):
Not good if you are supposed to be a franchise,
not once in a lifetime, because that's that's an overused term.
Speaker 1 (51:48):
If you are generational prospect. He was a generational prospect
for sure.
Speaker 4 (51:54):
And you're nothing close to that. Are you a bust.
Speaker 1 (51:59):
For the years?
Speaker 2 (52:00):
Or should we start calling out people that called Trevor
Lawrence a generational talent?
Speaker 1 (52:07):
I think.
Speaker 3 (52:11):
I think it's just the expectation level was too hard.
Like we bring up Lebron James and how like when
he was a freshman, people were going to talk about
him being a Hall of Famer and ended up being like,
inarguably top five all time NBA. That is just the
exception rather than the rule. I think the fact that
you've talked about a true freshman and he's been a
(52:31):
serviceable too at times good Like he's had a good
season that I was his second second year. I think
he was really good that year. And the expectation level
is just too high. If you have a true freshman
you call him out as an NFL quarterback and he's
been a good NFL quarterback, that's pretty impressive.
Speaker 2 (52:50):
Actually, yeah, he's not been great. He hasn't been spectacular,
and he's still overthrowed me. I made a joke Rossie.
He was he leads wide receivers wide open. I mean
he overthrows, underthrows. His accuracy is nothing close to CJ's trout.
I think he's playing he's playing hurt, right.
Speaker 1 (53:11):
Yeah, but even but when he was healthy, it didn't matter.
Speaker 3 (53:13):
He I mean, his his his. I'm just pulling up
his numbers here. As second year, he threw for four
thousand yards, twenty five touchdowns, eight picks. That's good. That's good.
Last year twenty one touchdowns, fourteen picks. This year eleven
and seven.
Speaker 1 (53:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (53:30):
By the way, Greg on Twitter says he's lukewarm, so
not juiced, he says, follow the money tough to give
away tickets of the Dolphins game. I'd say feelings are
lukewarm at best. That maybe is the case. All right,
So let me ask you this, are y'all luke warm
in the Texans?
Speaker 4 (53:46):
That might get a few people.
Speaker 1 (53:47):
To join us?
Speaker 2 (53:49):
Mm hmm, I don't know, but yeah, Trevor Lawrence to
me for what was supposed to be. Remember, he was
supposed to be so good that he should leave after
his freshman year because if he was allowed to.
Speaker 1 (54:00):
Yeah, it was over hyped. It was overhyped from them.
Speaker 3 (54:03):
But the fact that he's been a good you had
a you projected a true freshman in college to be
a good NFL quarterback.
Speaker 1 (54:08):
I'm gonna call him good because he's had some good seasons.
He's he's not being close to being great, oh, not
even anywhere close to being great, but that that's still
pretty impressive, honestly, all right.
Speaker 2 (54:18):
Eleven thirteen is the time. That's ross I'm mat here
in San Francisco. Seven to one three two one two
five seven niney if you want to jump in our
conversation seven one three two one two five seven ninety
bottom of the hour.
Speaker 4 (54:30):
We're gonna tell some people.
Speaker 2 (54:31):
To shut their bum asses up. Ain't nobody got time
for that. When we return, Ross is gonna give us
an update on what he thinks about the golden bat rule.
I always feel like I gotta be a little cautious
when I say golden something, Ross, I was thinking about
something else.
Speaker 1 (54:45):
What what is that? Man? The golden hat? Oh you
Texas golden sombrero, the golden arches. There's just one other thing.
I'm afraid I'm gonna slip out the tongue. I'm gonna
not want to say. Do you say that? No?
Speaker 4 (55:01):
I don't, but I just want to make sure I
don't say it.
Speaker 1 (55:03):
Do you say it?
Speaker 2 (55:04):
A lot with a question mark on the end, The
golden bat seven one three two one two five SEVENATI
with the word right now four. Game Day Men's Health

Speaker 1 (55:18):

Speaker 2 (55:19):

Speaker 1 (55:22):
Keep it private.
Speaker 2 (55:23):

Speaker 12 (56:22):
More.
Speaker 1 (56:22):
Matt Thomas now on.
Speaker 5 (56:26):
Sports Talk seven ninety Rossy.
Speaker 2 (56:32):
I put a pull question up on my Twitter account
at sports MT and it was about the Golden bat
rule that Rob Manfred says there is a buzz for
meaning you can take anybody in your lineup and put
them in a special spot once per game to get
a second at bat through the lineup. Four hundred and
(56:54):
forty votes are in. Ninety three percent say ridiculous, seven percent.
Speaker 1 (56:58):
Say sure why not? Seven percent damn Matthews among that
seven percent sure why not? Uh, it's it's ridiculous. I mean,
can you absolu ridiculous? They're not?
Speaker 3 (57:11):
I mean, can you imagine in a playoff game like
it's It's not even even a video game, wouldn't even
propose some rule like this. So okay, explain this to
me again. So at some point, let's say it's like
bottom of the ninth and their bases are loaded with
two out and Jeremy Pene is supposed to come up,
you can just put in your On.
Speaker 2 (57:30):
Alvarez one time per game. That's exactly what you just
described as accurate.
Speaker 1 (57:34):
Yes, that's ridiculous. It goes against the whole.
Speaker 3 (57:40):
It goes against Now we've been doing things that have been
going against hundreds of years of baseball.
Speaker 1 (57:44):
But like I got one for you. Let's say that
you just said, describe that.
Speaker 2 (57:49):
Let's say that you're the bases loaded and Jeremy Pane
is at the plate and you want Jordan Avarez to hit.
Speaker 4 (57:55):
What if Jordon Avarez is at second base?
Speaker 3 (57:57):
I get they swap you put Jeremy at second. That's
actually a good play. You can get home.
Speaker 1 (58:02):
It's just ridiculous, ridiculous.
Speaker 3 (58:08):
You know what, Now, if the if the Astros were
still trotting out Martine Maldonado, I'd feel a lot better
about this rule.
Speaker 1 (58:13):
Do you know what?
Speaker 2 (58:14):
That's the bias that books? Do you want you want
Jake uh? Do you want sneaky snake Jake batting?
Speaker 1 (58:23):
Hey, Jake Myers, nobody hating on Jake Myers?
Speaker 2 (58:26):
Do you want chassis fizz out there doing that Mauricio
Dubon slip hitting single?
Speaker 1 (58:32):
I mean, I guess that's the D.
Speaker 3 (58:33):
The DH argument is would you rather see a picture
or did you rather see a DH?
Speaker 1 (58:36):
And it's the DH. But this this is just a
bridge too far. Yeah, I'm just telling you.
Speaker 4 (58:42):
He says there's buzz. I believe he's making it up.
Speaker 2 (58:45):
When somebody ever tells you, hey, there's a lot of
buzz around something, don't you ever tend to not believe them?
Speaker 1 (58:50):
I've never heard of this rule before him. He brought
it up. Yeah, and he says there's buzz around it.
Speaker 2 (58:57):
Do you think Jim Crane is having a car with
its fellow MLB owners in Scottsdale or in Vegas, or
in Orlando or Nashville wherever the hell they like to
hang out with rich people do billionaires?
Speaker 1 (59:09):
Hey guys, why don't we do this golden bat rule.
Let's create some buzz for it is negative papers lying.
Speaker 3 (59:16):
That's just me like like me walking up to you, Matt,
like Matt, you know, there's a lot of buzz for
for me as employee of the year here at iHeart Houston.
Speaker 1 (59:22):
Oh god, that would never happen. Take too much to
vacation time.
Speaker 2 (59:27):
Oh stop, you're already he's already putting it for January
time off.
Speaker 1 (59:30):
I'm actually thinking about doing that, though.
Speaker 2 (59:32):
I got some days. I'm going first. I've sacrificed my
days for you.
Speaker 1 (59:36):
Whatever.
Speaker 3 (59:37):
You're on rocket schedule. You're not taking any time off
during the during this the rocket schedule.
Speaker 1 (59:41):
Right, No, But I mean there, yeah, you're good.
Speaker 2 (59:43):
I was supposed to have I was supposed to have
today off because of this hillatious road trip but I
had to make sure we had our reunion.
Speaker 3 (59:49):
Was patalacious road trip. Oh you got like six seven
hours of sleep? What are you wanting about.
Speaker 1 (59:53):
Six seven hours? When? When? What body? What time clock
are you working off of? How many hours you get?
I got? I went.
Speaker 2 (01:00:01):
I think I put on some YouTube at one twenty
local time, and I got up at six forty five,
So that's five hours and twenty minutes.
Speaker 1 (01:00:12):
Oh yeah, five and twenty. You're good. Take a nap
after the show, You're fine.
Speaker 2 (01:00:18):
Okay, I'm gonna get some lunch. Yeah, it's called super
Duper Burger down.
Speaker 1 (01:00:22):
The street, super Duper Burger. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:00:26):
Should I have tried. I didn't try McDonald's overseas. Should
I have?
Speaker 1 (01:00:29):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:00:29):
By the way, we stopped at ad A been Inbout
on the way to from Sacramento, San Francisco.
Speaker 1 (01:00:35):
We had there was like twelve of us. Yes, two
of the people in our party had never had been
Inbout before. Okay.
Speaker 4 (01:00:41):
And what they say, uh one said, eh one said
they loved it.
Speaker 2 (01:00:45):
Just typically what people do about fast food food and say, oh,
you know, my place is much better.
Speaker 4 (01:00:49):
It's no butter Burger, or it's no butter Barker.
Speaker 1 (01:00:54):
You and I are on the same page. The burgers
are better. A lot of takes that we disagree on. Yes,
I'm always right about that movie.
Speaker 3 (01:01:00):
You always and you still like that nasty pork gristle
press sheet.
Speaker 2 (01:01:04):
Happy anniversary, by the way, forty years ago, forty two
years ago, I think.
Speaker 1 (01:01:08):
Yeah, they still can't keep it on the menu. It's
so disgusting.
Speaker 4 (01:01:10):
You know what's such It's like Mahi mahi is always
a special.
Speaker 3 (01:01:13):
And he's bringing out for degenerates like you. Yeah, you
know why they make it the special because they're trying
to get rid of it.
Speaker 4 (01:01:18):
They were trying to get rid of it. They wouldn't
continuing to produce it.
Speaker 1 (01:01:22):
Yeah, I'm telling you.
Speaker 3 (01:01:23):
The the machines get all gunked up with pork, so
the the meat companies like, hey man, what are we
gonna do?
Speaker 1 (01:01:27):
All is pork gunk. I don't know. Let's make some
sheets out of it and call it a McRib.
Speaker 4 (01:01:31):
I don't think gunk is a term.
Speaker 1 (01:01:33):
Yeah, it's pork gunk. It's a pork de lightest. Well,
it's pork gunk, and that's being nice whatever.
Speaker 2 (01:01:40):
Seven one three, two, one two five seven ninety seven one, three, two, one, two,
five seven nine zero. We got shut your bom masks
up coming up in a few minutes. Uh, let's see
what Ja says on the golden bat role. What if
the basses are loaded, Otani strikes out, Bet strikes out?
Speaker 4 (01:01:55):
Could Otani bat again? The answer is yes, he could.
Speaker 1 (01:01:58):
Could you go back to back? Yeah? Why not? What?
Speaker 2 (01:02:03):
That's why this thing is absurd. You can't want me
now you does? Doesn't happen a lot, But you could
go Why couldn't.
Speaker 4 (01:02:08):
You go back to back?
Speaker 1 (01:02:09):
Yeah? I don't know why.
Speaker 2 (01:02:11):
There's no reason why you couldn't. Now again, the question
is how do you replace people? And what if let's
say you have the bases loaded and Alvarez gets that
single because you golden bad at him. That's weird first base?
And then it's his turn to bad again? Who I mean,
does the person he replaced go take the first base again?
Speaker 1 (01:02:31):
This? Why are we doing this? I don't know why
this is? This is bad? I'm you for bringing it up.
It's pitch There's no way I want to know who
who started this to begin with, because look, the pitch
clock has sped up the game for the better.
Speaker 2 (01:02:47):
The man for the man, the runner at second base
had to be done because we don't want to be
at baseball games in July for four and a half hours. Okay,
that's not essentially changing the rule of the sport. That's
it's not changing what a lineup card is. This is
actually changing what a lineup card is. Hmm, it's it's horrible, exactly.
Speaker 1 (01:03:09):
It's it's changing.
Speaker 3 (01:03:11):
It's more with it, it's more woven into the fabric
of the.
Speaker 1 (01:03:15):
Game than than those are the things that have been changing.
Speaker 2 (01:03:18):
No doubt about it, all right, seven one three, two,
one two five, seven ninety. Is there anything ross that
happened on your trip that you don't have time for?
Speaker 1 (01:03:25):
Or I get a lot? Actually you got a list?
Oh man, you want me to make a list? When is?
Are we doing this next now?
Speaker 4 (01:03:31):
And by the way, with the news at noon in

Speaker 4 (01:05:29):
But I got time for that. Ross, what's the matter
with you?
Speaker 5 (01:05:32):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (01:05:32):
You know what, I'll start.
Speaker 3 (01:05:33):
I got a couple things, Matt, but I'll just uh,
we can go around a round table or something like that.
Speaker 1 (01:05:37):
I'll start with. On the flights, now, I was able to.
Speaker 3 (01:05:40):
Uh via somebody that is not me, able to get
some nice seats and exit rows for my trip to
Korea on the way back. But while I was there
in this nice extra leg roomed area, there were people
throughout the flight is standing right in front of me
because there was a little bit of space, and they
(01:06:00):
were taking their liberties to do like stretches and pilates
and like twirls, and I was like, I'm just trying
to enjoy the flight peacefully, and these people are in
front of me staging a pilates class in the middle
of the flight, and ain't nobody got time to watch
you stretching out while I'm just trying to enjoy my
flight and you're kicking me in the foot and getting
(01:06:21):
in my way.
Speaker 1 (01:06:22):
Ain't nobody got time? Forda, this is stretching in flight. Yes,
like in the middle of the flight next to the bathroom.
People would just come over and literally start doing like
a pilates class, Like like ten people did it on
each flight. All right, I got something for you. Hello, everyone,
I would like to welcome you to elevator etiquette. One
(01:06:45):
oh one.
Speaker 2 (01:06:46):
This just happened to me an hour ago, and it
happened to me in Sacramento yesterday.
Speaker 1 (01:06:51):
When you are waiting for an elevator.
Speaker 2 (01:06:56):
And the elevator opens up, the number one, very simple
rule is you let the people out, then you enter
the elevator. I was trying to exit two elevators, one
this morning, one yesterday in Sacramento, and the person one male,
one female, different to two different trips, got in the
(01:07:16):
elevator before I got out. Ain't nobody got time for
you jumping in the elevator to muddy the situation when
I'm just trying to get out.
Speaker 1 (01:07:24):
Ain't nobody got time for that. Ain't nobody got time
for dad?
Speaker 3 (01:07:28):
Well, you know, man on the uh, on the subway
in Soul, it's every man for himself.
Speaker 1 (01:07:33):
You just jump in there. Yeah, people are jumping out.
You just go. You just fine on the subway the elevator,
we're not having a massive panic attack to get on there.
I got you.
Speaker 3 (01:07:44):
It's a little bit much. It was ridiculous, very common.
It happens all the time.
Speaker 1 (01:07:49):
Well, that's what I'm here for, to make sure that
doesn't happen again. You always wait for people to get
at What advantage do you have? Are you looking for
a better spot in the elevator? Is that what it is? Yeah?
Maybe like the back corner. What's your favorite spawn in
the elevator? Matt next to the buttons, Right next to
the buttons, you can push them all. I'm team button
guy picked tick tack out with those buttons. Ross. You
(01:08:10):
know me very well? Spelling your name, Amy Connor. What's
the matter with you? Well?
Speaker 12 (01:08:17):
I was gonna do a different one, but the elevator
thing reminded me of something that happened early last week.
I was in the elevator wait from the parting garage,
going up to our floor, and it was a packed elevator.
So I was right in the front and the doors
open to our seventh floor here on iHeartMedia and I
walked and right as the doors opened, somebody from behind
me pushed through and pushed me out of the way
(01:08:38):
and said excuse me and got it on the same
floor as I'm like, well, if you would have just
waited a second, I would have been getting out with you.
Speaker 1 (01:08:43):
Too, on the seventh floor. So somebody here at work,
but anybody got time. Somebody here.
Speaker 12 (01:08:50):
We got off on the same floor, so a'tybody got
time for you? Brushing past me being a little bit
more patient, Well, could have gotten out together.
Speaker 1 (01:08:56):
Hey, nobody got it? Is it an on air person? Uh?
Speaker 6 (01:09:00):
No?
Speaker 1 (01:09:01):
Oh damn.
Speaker 12 (01:09:02):
I don't know this person's name, but I've seen him. Okay,
who he is?
Speaker 1 (01:09:08):
I think?
Speaker 2 (01:09:08):
Okay, maybe he's one of those scorely producers at kPr
C or ktr H.
Speaker 1 (01:09:13):
You gotta watch your eye O for those guys.
Speaker 4 (01:09:14):
Yeah, they're they're a little different, all right.
Speaker 1 (01:09:18):
Ross. Oh yeah, one more.
Speaker 3 (01:09:19):
I'm just gonna go with like the the drivers in
Taiwan in general, Oh my god. Now there's a million
people on scooters like, I don't know if you've ever
been in a country, Matt, where everybody's like riding a scooter.
There's like a thousand people diving in and out of scooters,
There's people on bikeser's pedestrians, and I feel like I
was fighting for my life.
Speaker 1 (01:09:38):
I didn't want to sit by the end of the trip.
I did not want to sit in the front seat
of ubers because I was so scared they were gonna
get in fifty five res every time people driving crazy
out there. I will never say a bad word about
Houston drivers again. Ain't nobody got time for these Taiwanese
cab drivers. Ain't nobody got time today?
Speaker 2 (01:09:55):
You're the only person ever in the history of Ain't
nobody got time for that? Massup would bring up Taiwanese
cab drivers and none of us can possibly relate to this.
Speaker 3 (01:10:02):
That's what I'm bringing it up for, Matt. You've seen
you've had crazy Uber drivers, though before that.
Speaker 1 (01:10:06):
I have for sure seven one three two one two
five seven, ninety seven one three two one two five seven,
Ninty rowdy and Katie Roddy. What's the matter with you?
Speaker 11 (01:10:17):
Good night, Ross, Glad you're back. You hope the trip
was good. But uh so, I want to tell Matt
and Dan Matthews that have been dogging on our Longhorns
yesterday about the fans.
Speaker 10 (01:10:32):
To shut y'all bumb ass up.
Speaker 11 (01:10:34):
And say was in this situation we would never hear
the end of it from Matt What what?
Speaker 2 (01:10:41):
What did I say that was bad about the Longhorn? Yeah,
I said they were gonna win the game. They're gonna
be at Georgia for the SEC championship.
Speaker 1 (01:10:49):
What I rack on you for? Let me hear this.
Speaker 11 (01:10:52):
Yesterday you and Dan were breaking down the A and
M fans and the Longhorn fans and saying how noxious
Longhorned fans can be.
Speaker 1 (01:11:04):
Well, yeah, shut your promo spit fat Yeah, shut up,
Matt sho man, shut your bumb ass up, Rowdy, your
fans are obnoxious, titled man, number one recruited class in
the nation. Shut your bumb ass up at the moment.
(01:11:27):
Thank you, Rowdy, appreciate it. By the way, we've not
heard ward one from Gordy.
Speaker 6 (01:11:31):
You know.
Speaker 1 (01:11:31):
They they're dropping commits like flies over there. Yeah, we
haven't heard the SEC breakdown. Yeah, it's funny, you know.
Speaker 2 (01:11:37):
They they got outspent by a mission abound a million
and a half and then all their number one recruits
believing it go elsewhere.
Speaker 1 (01:11:43):
There's still number nine class at Ice on twenty four
to seven. Well that'll be in the top fitty. That's
good what I'm saying. It's better normal, better than no data. Wow,
we're putting on recruiting this year.
Speaker 11 (01:11:55):
Matt.
Speaker 1 (01:11:56):
By the way, shout out to Data, the new offensive
coordinator at Nebraska. Fun with that. Seven seven one three
two one two five seven ninety seven one three two
one two five seven ninety Chris, Jersey Village, Chris, what's.
Speaker 4 (01:12:12):
The matter with you?
Speaker 1 (01:12:13):
Good morning, gentlemen, Welcome back Ross.
Speaker 14 (01:12:17):
So, yeah, I pay a lot of money to AT
and T and a little bit extra for my DVR,
and on Sundays when I want to go watch the
Texans on my DVR, I get a message pop up
saying you need to subscribe to YouTube. I ain't got
time or the money, Matt to pay YouTube when I
(01:12:38):
already pay AT and T to watch the Texans on
my dvr.
Speaker 1 (01:12:42):
So shit, their bump masses up. Shit, so bump asks up. Man.
Speaker 2 (01:12:48):
So he's he's not happy if he is, he mad
at YouTube, mat at his drink, TV mad at Space City.
Speaker 1 (01:12:53):
Who's he's mad at everyone? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:12:57):

so feel free to jump in and let us know

Speaker 1 (01:13:19):
Restaurants that don't do separate checks. Anybody got time for that?
We're on business, let's separate, let's go.
Speaker 3 (01:13:28):
You know, I like that policy as a waiter. As
a waiter, I don't want to be dealing with it.
Anybody got time for you? And your six friends want
to itemize every single check.
Speaker 1 (01:13:36):
Ain't nobody got time for dead? Yeah? You need to
let them know beforehand. I do we do it with
the moment we walk in and they don't let you Nope.
Speaker 2 (01:13:44):
So well, they first of all give you this blank
eating grin like U f ors and then they go, well,
we see what we can do, and he goes, why
don't we just can we just break it down at
the table, and because you know, they're all carrying these
like these monitor nothing monitors, but like the little little
well they're like they're electronic, uh what I call them. No,
nobody's running things down anymore. They're all typing them in
(01:14:06):
on in the in the most system.
Speaker 1 (01:14:09):
Yeah, whatever it is. They're like a little computer. Tost.
I guess I can plug it because otherwise you don't know.
Speaker 4 (01:14:14):
Yeah, that wasn't good.
Speaker 1 (01:14:17):
And did I tell you that today?
Speaker 2 (01:14:18):
About what happened when I went through a Rick rolay
and my order was nine dollars in one cent and
I yeah, to spare me.
Speaker 1 (01:14:28):
And they said no, I don't. Yeah, they said shut
your bum ass up. They are like, no chance, shut
up nine cents and change. I wanted to throw the
change back at her. I was like, here's your tip.
That's rude. It was rude that you can't spare me
a damn penny. It's probably not her call. The rule
is this.
Speaker 2 (01:14:45):
When I was a McDonald's back in the day plus
one dollar, nobody had a word about your register.
Speaker 1 (01:14:51):
Uh huh. And you took a steam engine to work.
That's great. There's different times, Maddie, No, that's not nice.
Speaker 6 (01:14:58):
It was.
Speaker 1 (01:14:58):
It was a Nissan center okay, it was just sticking.
Sometimes it was.
Speaker 2 (01:15:04):
I haven't driven a stick shift since like nineteen ninety three.
I don't even know if I could do it if
I if I had to.
Speaker 1 (01:15:09):
Uh No, it's like riding. No, it's like riding a bike.
You'll be back on it. You'd be good. Does anybody
even drive a stick shift anymore? Uh? Time? When thee
cab drivers do they really? Is it bad? That bad?
Some of them not?
Speaker 2 (01:15:22):

Baseball's doing just fine, by the way, are we I'm
surprised again Gordon is not running today with some outrage
about Alabama being in the college football playoff.
Speaker 1 (01:15:49):
It was to end today.
Speaker 4 (01:15:50):
I mean, god, I was the angst over these over
this twelve team tournament.
Speaker 2 (01:15:55):
I mean, are we Are we ever gonna be happy
with college football playoff rules?
Speaker 3 (01:16:00):
It's funny, right, we used to argue over who's one
and two for the BCS. Then we argued over who's
the top four, and now we're arguing who's top twelve.
Speaker 2 (01:16:07):
So now we're gonna eventually get to sixteen, and then
we're gonna argue about that, and then we're gonnaet to
twenty two.
Speaker 1 (01:16:12):
Please no more than twelve. Twelve's max. I think twelve
feels about it right.
Speaker 2 (01:16:16):

Speaker 3 (01:20:35):
You, oh my god, these are fifteen dollars a bag. Yeah,
you could have got it for a lot cheaper.
Speaker 1 (01:20:41):
I could not.
Speaker 3 (01:20:42):
I had zero room left in any of my bags.
Everything was all overweight as it was. It was inn
a whole ordeal.
Speaker 4 (01:20:51):
All right, con are we done? We We're gonna close
it off here.
Speaker 1 (01:20:56):
I think so yeah.
Speaker 12 (01:20:57):
I mean, I'll say, anybody got time for the phones
being down yesterday today? So sorry.
Speaker 2 (01:21:03):
Maybe people are in a better mood. It's December, it's
holiday season. You're fresh off of Thanksgiving and Christmas is
coming around. Maybe we're gonna be maybe we'll be cheerful,
Maybe maybe we'll get crank your people. In January of twenty.
Speaker 1 (01:21:16):
Twenty five, I'm feeling good. Yeah, you should be. You're afresh,
You're on a beautiful trip for a couple of weeks.
You you brought back lots of supernirs. I got a
mental break from you for two and a half weeks. Yeah,
I'm feeling good.
Speaker 6 (01:21:28):
I know.
Speaker 4 (01:21:28):
I know you'll miss me eventually sometimes, I know.
Speaker 1 (01:21:32):
All right, that was shut your bow mesself.
Speaker 2 (01:21:35):
I'm taking Friday and Monday off so you can help
you enjoy yourself this Friday and Monday too.
Speaker 1 (01:21:40):
Okay, that's fine. We'll figure it out, and then you're
gonna go. You're gonna then you're leaving me in like
ten days ago on a fortieth birthday trip. You have
no money for all this? Where's all this jump? There
is no doubt in my mind. I'm broke.
Speaker 4 (01:21:54):
You better get that only fans account going again?
Speaker 1 (01:21:56):
Yeah, onlyfeet dot net? Is that what it is? Yeah?
I just got a pedicure, looking good? All right, that's okay,
feet talk.
Speaker 2 (01:22:06):
Oh, by the way, uh, shut your bumb ass up, Taylor.
She had over five and a half assist for Fred
van Vliet last night. You didn't get a single assist.
Speaker 3 (01:22:14):
Oh, well, what do you think she's running freaking algorithmicmodels?
Come on, Matt, she's pulling these out of her Well
what betwixt some places? Let's not act like she's running
a bunch of data on this.
Speaker 1 (01:22:31):
Okay, Well, her recap, she was very sad about the situation.
Well whatever, so has has mad been bringing her up
on the show every day? Still? Connor, do tell the truth?
Connor I've not actually, we haven't heard about her in
a couple of days. Okay, two days. This is the weekend.
Speaker 2 (01:22:49):
Well, uh, the Taylor fan club is growing. I cannot
divulge who is. We have a chat group now involving
just conversation.
Speaker 1 (01:23:00):
You people are sick. What's the group chat name?
Speaker 10 (01:23:03):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:23:04):
Not no newailors. Yeah, that's something like I'm.
Speaker 2 (01:23:10):
Really not gonna tell you. I'm gonna tell you something
that's not me. But it's somebody in the group google
Earth worth they think she lives.
Speaker 1 (01:23:20):
Oh my god, that's a little much. This is getting bad.
You probably actually, yeah, you might want to go ahead
and strike that from the record for the FBI sake.
Speaker 4 (01:23:30):
Well, I don't, and it's not me. Kim's listening. Its
definitely not me. I would never google Earth a person's
location and where they live.
Speaker 1 (01:23:40):
That seems like a little much if I was single, mate,
but no, but it still seems like a little much. Yeah,
that's right. But do you want to do you want
to the group chat? I cat? I know, I'm good,
Thank you? Okay, seven one.
Speaker 2 (01:23:51):
Three, seven on the news, and noon is coming up
will have some headlines involving by the way, Uh, apparently
Al's he's al shaggers Uh. Hearing is today via zoom.
I don't know if I'm not looked. I've checked on Twitter.
I haven't seen nothing from the NFL national folks. But
usually you have to go to New York to do that,
but they're doing it via zoom. Frankly, you should zoom
(01:24:12):
is fine, right, I mean zoom is. Zoom has changed
the way we conduct business in everything.
Speaker 1 (01:24:17):
I guess it should be fine. Probably better to be
in person, especially.
Speaker 4 (01:24:22):
If you want to, like, if you're really pissed at
John running you want to give him a double rods,
you can do it under the table.
Speaker 1 (01:24:27):
Yeah, we don't know. He's not gonna head butt John
Runyan in the middle of that hearing or something. That'd
be a bad idea.
Speaker 2 (01:24:33):
I'm just saying if he's like pissed off at him,
or he's like hit like if if coach Demiko is
next to him and he's hit him on the on
the kneeses like, don't say that or say this, you know,
write stuff down.
Speaker 1 (01:24:44):
No, I think I don't think that's happening.
Speaker 2 (01:24:47):
All right, Rockets lost last night to the Kings. We'll
give you details on that and also Rob Manford trying
to gain some steam for this ridiculous rule. College football
playoff rankings where announced yesterday. We'll get to all that
as part of the News at Noon, which is in

Speaker 1 (01:26:08):
Launchtimers. This is the Matt Thomas Show, well one on
Sports Talk Seminari. The Matt Thomas Show with Ross continues.
I'm here in San Francisco.
Speaker 2 (01:26:17):
Rockets will take on the Warriors tomorrow night and then
it will play them in the knockout Round game next Wednesday,
which will be inside Tota Center.
Speaker 1 (01:26:26):
We'll get to that among other things. NFL News straight
ahead as well, But right now it's time for the
News at noon with Sports RV.
Speaker 2 (01:26:36):
All right, that's still going here, the News at NOD
on the mat till this show with Raw.
Speaker 3 (01:26:41):
It's a lot going on in Houston sports and of
the national sports landscape.
Speaker 1 (01:26:46):
As you know. The Aziz al Jahier suspension hearing happening
soon over zoom. We should get some news on that.
What is your final prediction on how many games he
will be suspended? Four? And I said one.
Speaker 4 (01:27:04):
The initial announced announcement was three.
Speaker 1 (01:27:07):
Final answer three, I'm going too, We'll go get reduced
by one. Let's just have some fun with that one.
Speaker 3 (01:27:16):
Okay, Elsewhere in the news, let's see coach Udoka, of course,
not happy with the officiating last night.
Speaker 1 (01:27:24):
We can also set a line on his fine.
Speaker 6 (01:27:28):
Disappointing miscalls, blatant miss calls right in front of you.
You know, you're calling tick attack and movie screens and
look like that, and then you don't want to call
the obvious ones right in front of you.
Speaker 1 (01:27:38):
So that was it.
Speaker 6 (01:27:39):
I hope you got fouled a few times on that
drive and on the layup and they don't want to
call it, and so get some glasses open your eyes.
Speaker 1 (01:27:49):
God, I love that.
Speaker 4 (01:27:51):
I am I am such first of all, our team
is so much better. That makes me happy. But god,
the I mean, just the comment.
Speaker 2 (01:27:59):
I mean, he knew what he wanted to say, and
my guess is he knows he's going to light in
the wallet, but sometimes he's just gotta.
Speaker 1 (01:28:07):
Say what you meany twenty five g's over under.
Speaker 2 (01:28:12):
Well, you know what I said ten initially after it happened,
but you maybe I'm gonna go ooh.
Speaker 4 (01:28:18):
Twenty five is a good number.
Speaker 1 (01:28:19):
I'm gonna go ooh, got you thinking about it?
Speaker 4 (01:28:23):
I like this twenty five thousand and one, so I'll
go over.
Speaker 3 (01:28:28):
I think over as well. I feel like Fred's was fifty.
I feel like it's fifty has been kind of a number.
I think the way that he can if he would
have just said, you know what, I feel like they
missed some calls and it's terrible and he needs to
get fixed.
Speaker 1 (01:28:40):
That's one thing. But to go out there and say
put on some bleeping glasses. I think that's taking it
to another level.
Speaker 3 (01:28:49):
And that's why I think it's going to be closer
to fifty thousand dollars, if not fifty on the nose.
Speaker 4 (01:28:54):
Yeah, so yeah, So you and I are both going
over on that, basically, is what you're saying.
Speaker 1 (01:28:58):
Yes, I think so. Okay. Elsewhere, Matt, it is National
signing Day in college recruiting Texas with a couple of
big moves. A certain employee of Sports Talk seven ninety
came in to lament the you making so much fun
of LSU, saying they'd only lost a couple of recruits,
it's not that bad. Maybe their name rhymes with Schmith
(01:29:20):
Schmorty just using twenty four to seven's Sports's rankings. As
of right now, team rankings Texas one, Georgia two, Ohio
State three, Alabama four, and Oregon's been making some moves.
They are now fifth.
Speaker 3 (01:29:34):
Phil Knight apparently just showing out a bunch of cash
for these Oregon players.
Speaker 1 (01:29:39):
Well, so is Barstool Sports. So is this wife of
owner of Oracle.
Speaker 2 (01:29:45):
I mean, everybody in their mother is like, let's pay
them as much as possible. Let's make it a free
agent bidding war. It literally is ross. I don't I
know you haven't paid attention.
Speaker 6 (01:29:55):
No.
Speaker 1 (01:29:56):
This year has been literally what how much? How many
do you have? LFG free agency? Basically? Of other programs
of note, Texas A and M coming in at number
eight right now, and the University of Houston Cougar's a
couple of four star players. They're forty eighth in the ranking.
That's pretty good for the Kougs. It's let me tayso
(01:30:17):
we were usually what seventy five eighty is somewhere on that.
Speaker 3 (01:30:19):
Range, better than what Dana has been doing the last
couple of years. Let's see, last year Dana had the
squad at fifty second.
Speaker 1 (01:30:25):
Actually, so.
Speaker 3 (01:30:28):
Yeah, maybe it's about where it has been and mana
were the people were wondering how much nil money had
you shelled out for the recruits of this year's University
of Houston Cougar's class.
Speaker 4 (01:30:39):
I do not want to announce that publicly.
Speaker 3 (01:30:44):
Okay, others elsewhere in the news, Matt. Apparently, according to
Alden Gonzalez at the ESPN, Superstar Juan Soto is nearing
a decision on free agency. No exact set timetable, but
it should be coming close. I don't know exactly what
the latest scuttle butt is, but Juan Soto could be
(01:31:05):
signing soon, and that means to me that Alex Bregman
might be following soon thereafter.
Speaker 4 (01:31:10):
Yeah, we were kind of talking about that with the
end of other day.
Speaker 2 (01:31:13):
He thinks it's gonna be a one to two bam
bam soon as Soto makes his deal.
Speaker 4 (01:31:16):
Pragmants not far behind.
Speaker 1 (01:31:18):
Scott Boris is not even gonna mess around. He is
he gonna do with the same press conference. Do you
think he's doing it to save money?
Speaker 6 (01:31:24):
No.
Speaker 2 (01:31:25):
If you have those two guys, they want their own shine.
They don't want to split time.
Speaker 1 (01:31:28):
No, I'm just kidding. I think it would be one,
and then I think the teams that miss out on
one Soda would be more willing to scramble and find
something else, And that something else could be Alex Bregman,
is what I think. I think if you go big
game hunting for Sodo and you swing and miss as
a consolation prize, I think Alex Bregman could be in
(01:31:49):
the mix for teams that aren't able to land the
services of one Sono.
Speaker 4 (01:31:53):
Yeah, what do you think we soda or not? You
and I both think he's going to the Mets.
Speaker 3 (01:31:57):
My gut feeling, I think I was gonna say last
week that was like three weeks ago.
Speaker 4 (01:32:01):
Yeah, you haven't got feeling in a while. Your gut's
big enough. You can need all those chips from uh
overseas you and bring us any back.
Speaker 1 (01:32:07):
All right, yours?
Speaker 3 (01:32:08):
You were really upset about these rib chips. You don't
even ask me for any I'm sorry, steak chips. They're
really good, by the way.
Speaker 4 (01:32:14):
By the way, in Canada they have ketchup flavored chips. Apparently.
Speaker 1 (01:32:16):
No, I've seen those in America before. I didn't think
that was good. Those are big in Canada.
Speaker 3 (01:32:21):
Yeah, that's okay. Yeah, Connor McGovern is our official Canadian correspondent.
Speaker 1 (01:32:25):
By the way.
Speaker 2 (01:32:26):
By the way, Connor will be singing the Oh Canada
national anthem later on the show You will it's actually
I don't mean to be unpatriotic, but it's a better
national anthem than.
Speaker 1 (01:32:34):
Ours, and I disagree. Star Spangled Banner jam number one
it is not a jam jam. What do you mean?
It's slapping in clubs. Oh, they are their dancing to that.
Speaker 3 (01:32:47):
Yeah, I think there's a line dance. It's like the
very similar to the electric slide on my Facebook reels.
Speaker 1 (01:32:53):
You know, the little Fish song to the Peanuts. You know,
dund da Dun dun. Yeah, Linus and Lucy.
Speaker 4 (01:33:00):
Whatever that song is called. There are people putting old
videos of fifties and sixties TV stars to that song
in their jam.
Speaker 1 (01:33:06):
It's very, very funny. Okay, you're watching this all night
until six am. Well, because I can't sleep on the
bus going between sacrament and Samprus, I got to watch.
Speaker 3 (01:33:14):
Something, uh elsewhere. In college basketball, it looks like the
Cougars have been losing a lot of games.
Speaker 1 (01:33:18):
That's going on with that ras squideat this up Ken
Palm still got them top five, I think, thank you.
What's the squad? What's what's going on with your squad?
Speaker 2 (01:33:32):
Well, we just had a tough trip to Vegas, lost
to San Diego State and lost to Alabama.
Speaker 1 (01:33:35):
We're zer and two against SEC school San Diego State.
Speaker 3 (01:33:40):
I mean, I guess beat Notre Dame. Okay, that's good,
that's good. So things are looking up, Matt. You need
to go back to playing. You need to go back
to playing Valdosta State or whoever.
Speaker 4 (01:33:53):
Yeah, we got a game with Troy coming up next week.
I'll be calling there.
Speaker 1 (01:33:55):
You go.
Speaker 3 (01:33:55):
Oh, okay on ESPN Plus. Yes, let's go congratu list
and see you. Oh look we got you got Butler
coming up this weekend.
Speaker 1 (01:34:03):
Yes, we need that one. Is it?
Speaker 7 (01:34:06):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (01:34:06):
Is it a must win game?
Speaker 6 (01:34:08):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:34:09):
But by the way, the Tennessee loss made the Jacksonville
game a must win and they must want they want it.
Speaker 1 (01:34:14):
So wait, were you calling it a must win? So
was America? Oh my god?
Speaker 3 (01:34:21):
Yeah, I guess some people were calling it a must
win game. There, they've already clinched a division. There's no
must win games left. Basically, it's you know what, again,
We're not literal, we're figurative.
Speaker 1 (01:34:31):
And when we're talking about God and people are in
my side of it. Not everything in life has.
Speaker 4 (01:34:35):
To be literal.
Speaker 3 (01:34:36):
Ross everything in life is not literal. But if you're
calling a week fifteen game against a two nine, I'm sorry.
Speaker 4 (01:34:44):
The two and nine Jaguars, this city would have been
lit on fire.
Speaker 1 (01:34:48):
They would have been fine.
Speaker 2 (01:34:49):
Port Darling would not have been on television and been
we're all over bling for games.
Speaker 1 (01:34:54):
Okay, I guess it's a must win game for what
your mental health sake? Correct? You say? So what else?
I don't know? I'm done. You have no off the
beat past stories. No, I didn't have time. You picked
up where you left off pre vacation that trying to
(01:35:14):
find you something? No? No, no, oh. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:35:18):
There was almost a military coup in Soul, South Korea yesterday.
Speaker 1 (01:35:22):
Were you involved in that? It literally happened.
Speaker 3 (01:35:24):
No, I'm not a sleeper agent the cias people were
asking me. It happened three hours after I left. The
president declared martial law. Then the parliament voted it down
of unanimously one hundred ninety votes to zero. And now
there's no martial law in his chief, the President or
Prime Minister or whatever he's called, his chief of staff
has resigned. Apparently it's a whole mess going on in
(01:35:45):
there in Korea.
Speaker 1 (01:35:46):
Gotcha all right? That, my friends, is the news at noon.
Speaker 2 (01:35:49):
Let's talk to Niegel at twelve eleven on Sports Talk seven.
Hoy Negel, thanks for holding. Good afternoon to you.
Speaker 13 (01:35:56):
How are you today, Matt?
Speaker 1 (01:35:57):
Amazing?
Speaker 13 (01:36:00):
Well, I'm about to make it one notch better for you,
all right. I just went to McDonald's. Guess what's on
the menu. Dum mccrib dumb McRib is back, baby, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:36:16):
Where you been? Everybody knows about the mcgrib.
Speaker 13 (01:36:18):
The first time I've been to McDonald's in in in
uh in a few weeks. So, I mean, it's you know,
it's only seasonal. So I just I just found out
about it, and you didn't let me know.
Speaker 1 (01:36:28):
What do you mean? We've been talking about it every
damn day. It's America Sandwich.
Speaker 13 (01:36:32):
Well I missed it.
Speaker 1 (01:36:34):
I'm sorry.
Speaker 13 (01:36:35):
I was hoping to bring a little joy into your
life because I know that you love the mcgrib and
I love the McRib, So I was just trying to help.
Speaker 2 (01:36:44):
It's why needel, That's why you and I are besties.
We appreciate a fine sandwich. We a fine, we appreciated
delicious pork patty grilled perfectly lathered in delicious sauce with
pickles and onions on a toasted bun.
Speaker 1 (01:36:55):
It's just it's just a little slice of heaven. It's
a hunk of pork gun discuss.
Speaker 13 (01:37:00):
And if you accidentally drop somebody's patty on the floor
and give it to them when you're eighteen, that's okay too.
Speaker 1 (01:37:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:37:07):
Absolutely, I've told that story many at times. Thank you,
Agril for the phone call.
Speaker 1 (01:37:11):
You can also use it as a doorstop. They do not.
You had to macgrid with me with them the last year.
You said it was fine, it was okay.
Speaker 3 (01:37:20):
There's a reason it's not on the menu full year
long because nobody wants to buy that crap.
Speaker 2 (01:37:24):
So next Tuesday, when I get back, I will I
was gonna stack and buy a Brount lunch.
Speaker 1 (01:37:28):
But we did.
Speaker 2 (01:37:28):
We get to the office at ten o'clock. They don't
show to make ribs until eleven, so we're kind of screwed.
Speaker 1 (01:37:32):
Really, Oh yeah, we're real screwed. Terrible. I'm so upset
by the way. I'm not door dashing. I just can't.
I can't do it. The food's never hot. Yeah, it's
a little expensive. Na.
Speaker 3 (01:37:43):
Yeah, the food's usually cold. You gotta get the priority.
Last time I did it. Now I had been drinking,
so I didn't want to drive obviously, so I ordered
some food. It said that they were on a bike,
and I was like, man, this bike is moving. Then
a car showed up. I was like, did they just
do this because they don't have insurances?
Speaker 1 (01:38:00):
Is weird?
Speaker 2 (01:38:00):
I tried the door dash and Sacramento. I was gonna
I was gonna make rib fries and a nice tea.
It was gonna cost me twenty three dollars and I'm like, no,
I'm gonna pass.
Speaker 4 (01:38:08):
Thanks.
Speaker 1 (01:38:08):
Yeah, I only did when there's some kind of promo,
and even with the promos, it's not a great price.
Delivery fees, and.
Speaker 2 (01:38:14):
Then the guy's got his hand down, he's probably had
five or ten of your French fries.
Speaker 4 (01:38:17):
He's probably took a sip of your tea. No, I'm
yeah no.
Speaker 1 (01:38:20):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:38:21):
By the way, Uber eats is huge in Taiwan. There's
everybody scooters around. You can get it pretty quick with
with low fees.
Speaker 4 (01:38:27):
Okay, how about how'd you handle the language and all that?
Did you were able to talk.
Speaker 1 (01:38:31):
No, I know, like basically, this is what I know.
In Korean? Hello is on young Haaseo, I know that,
and on young Haseo, on Young ha Sao, matt thank you,
and then thank you is uh gom up some ni da.
That's all I know, Hello and thank you, and then
it shut your what is shut your bomb mass? I
don't know that one. And then in Amandarin, the only
thing I knew was hello and thank you. Nihow is
(01:38:54):
hello and shishia is thank you. Excuse me? What did
you say shishi? So you were there for two and
a half weeks and you learned four words correct, man,
I would say, it's a lot easier to get around
in Taiwan.
Speaker 3 (01:39:11):
Most people speak English. Korean was a little more difficult,
but I was with people who spoke the language.
Speaker 1 (01:39:15):
Is why I was a great trip.
Speaker 4 (01:39:16):
But they could have been making fun of you, Like
I feel like if I was to go to a
foreign country where the language was not oh, I.
Speaker 3 (01:39:21):
Could definitely tell people were like saying stuff without me
knowing what it was.
Speaker 1 (01:39:25):
It happened. I don't not be like I would be
able to interpret who is this really handsome balld white man? No,
not to get to know him about what they're saying.
Speaker 2 (01:39:32):
All right, twelve fourteen, that was the news at noon.
That was a McRib update seven one three two one
two five seven ninety seven one three, two one two

Speaker 5 (01:41:17):
For Matt Thomas now on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (01:41:28):
Twelve twenty one, I have Sports Talk seven ninety. It
is a Matt Thomas show with ross E. Medoka is
going to join us in a little more than an
hour from now. I was doing a little bit of
a checking on the worldwide world that is Twitter. I
didn't realize that Phil Knight is eighty six years old,
and there's a bunch of headlines. Barstool Sports is a
(01:41:48):
headlines says, Phil Knight is eighty six years old and
desperately wants to see a championship, So he's providing.
Speaker 4 (01:41:53):
Oregon with unlimited nil resources.
Speaker 1 (01:41:57):
Yes, I didn't realize he was eighty six either. I
thought he was like in this seventies. But oregons, Well,
Oregon's the number one team in the country right now,
so he might see it this year unlimited. See how
do you? How do you?
Speaker 2 (01:42:13):
It's the thing that thank god we're not coaches ross
because when you are in the NFL and you know,
when you draft a certain player at a certain position,
you kind of know how much money to give them
right based on their slot. You also have a track
record of well, offensive linemen are worth this, quarterbacks are
worth this, swad receivers are worth this because the league
(01:42:35):
wage scale is kind of indicative of that. You know
how you got to save a certain amount of money
for your quarterbacks and whatnot. When you have an unlimited
amount of money. And Phil Knight, at eighty six year
old old, says, here you go, Oregon, whatever you want.
Speaker 1 (01:42:50):
It's yours. Then even blank chick blank check. I mean
that's crazy that you that no amount of money.
Speaker 2 (01:43:02):
Like if you're if you're a kid that's thinking about Oregon,
all you gotta do is say, all right, I'll come
to play for you for fifteen million, and then LSU says, well,
I'll give you sixteen and then you call Oregon and say, look,
I'll come to you for twenty two.
Speaker 1 (01:43:12):
When then Michigan come in for I mean, this is
this is crazy. I don't even know how to conceptualize
that you've got a a there's no salary cap, endless
amounts of money. And by the way, you're putting in
millions and millions of dollars with these kids and Rossie,
(01:43:33):
they can leave after one year. At least when you
sign an.
Speaker 2 (01:43:35):
NFL contract, you're supposed to stay there for a while.
The portal's your best friend of year from now they
clean up in the portal too. Uh has players they
paid all with nil money that are leaving. But every
school is going time, not just you, as talk about anybody.
So basically, you sign these nil deals and you gonzo
(01:43:57):
after one year list in the NFL. If you've you
signed Pat mahomes a ridiculous the amount of a mount
of money. He's gonna be a cheap quarterback for a
long period of time when eventually the Texans signed CD
Stride to a long term extension. Unless you just want
to get rid of him and get rid of dead cat.
Speaker 1 (01:44:09):
Money, you keep him. Uh Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:44:14):
I did the news at noon and I said Oregon
was the fifth class. Now that the fourth at least,
I just refreshed it. That's because they just want to
check at twelve million dollars somebody.
Speaker 1 (01:44:22):
They just picked up.
Speaker 3 (01:44:22):
Another crazy thing to me, though, is that if Phil
Knight is spending unlimited money and Organ's not even first
in the rankings, what are these other schools spending Texas,
Georgia and Alabama head of Oregon right now?
Speaker 4 (01:44:33):
I mean, maybe you don't want to go to Eugene, Oregon.
Speaker 1 (01:44:36):
It's way far away.
Speaker 5 (01:44:37):
It is.
Speaker 3 (01:44:38):
It is very hippy ish. It's Austin on steroids is
what I call it when I went through there.
Speaker 1 (01:44:42):
But you liked it.
Speaker 2 (01:44:43):
My daughter went there to go see a friend of
hers competing a track of it, and she thought it
was fantastic.
Speaker 1 (01:44:47):
But yeah, I thought it was great.
Speaker 2 (01:44:48):
It is beautiful it's not easy to get to if
you are if you're a Chicago kid or a Detroit
kid or a Dallas kid, and.
Speaker 1 (01:44:55):
You want to be somewhat close to home. Eugene, Oregon's
on an easy place to get to. But hell, you
call Phil Knight, said Phil Wan, I need five charter
jets per year to have my mom and dad come
see me play. He'd say, okay, done. Yeah, you can
go out there and drop acid with a bunch of
barefoot hippies. It's nice. I'm just shaved in two months.
You don't take showers, and they all got arm hit
pair arm pit haair.
Speaker 2 (01:45:17):
You said it right the first time, you know, you
and I have talked about this. We always think about
who could possibly step in and try to regulate this.
Speaker 1 (01:45:28):
There ain't nobody wants this job. ROSSI No, because NCAA
steps in, they're losing their their exempts tax exempt status.
Speaker 2 (01:45:36):
But if you want the most, like if you said
Kirk Curve Street, you love the game of college football
and you're tired of call calling games all the time,
and you you want to take an administrative lead on this,
He's why, why what would incentivize you? Except you getting
crazy money to try to regulate this.
Speaker 1 (01:45:57):
Phil Knight. The headlines he's trending on Twitter, and every
one of the stories is Blake check. Whatever it takes, well,
we'll see if it works for him.
Speaker 4 (01:46:09):
Handing a seventeen year old ten million dollars a year
to play college sports. I mean, I can't. At least
if you're doing in the NFL, they.
Speaker 2 (01:46:18):
Have some sort of background that you were successful at
a high end college program or you were able to
go through the combine. I mean, you're putting a lot
of money into some young men that may just change
their mind and say, you know what, Eugene, Oregon is
not for me.
Speaker 3 (01:46:32):
I'm looking at their top recruits once from Duncanville, Texas, Tampa, Florida,
Owings Mills, Maryland, and Fara, all over the place, Conrod Texas.
Speaker 2 (01:46:43):
Who how about the kid the quarterback that was from
Detroit ten and a half millie to go to LSU.
Then Oracle's wife's who's in Michigan? Love steps in says,
let's make it twelve barstool steps in.
Speaker 1 (01:47:00):
Done, he doesn't leave. I wanted to stay home after all. Yeah, okay, good,
good for him. But at least, though, if We've been
consistent about this. We bitch and moan about it on
Monday through Friday, but on Saturdays, we're watching.
Speaker 2 (01:47:13):
We're watching the games, and we're gonna have holatiously high
ratings for Game Day. We're gonna have halatiously high ratings
for A and M versus Texas. We're gonna have halatiously
high ratings for the college football playoff. We're just hypocrites,
that's all we are. We are we are flat out hypocrites.
We be if we bemoaned the college game for the
(01:47:34):
amount of money that is being spent on these young men,
for quote unquote name, image and likeness, that we should
say we're done with college football.
Speaker 1 (01:47:43):
But we're not.
Speaker 2 (01:47:44):
Stadiums are full and the third highest biggest crowd ever
for a game. The TV ratings are astronomical.
Speaker 1 (01:47:53):
We love it, and we're gonna keep watching.
Speaker 2 (01:47:57):
I'm going to It's almost like, yes, you know cigarettes
are bad for your health, Yes, you go get me.
We will give me a cartonent of during the commercial
break for me.
Speaker 1 (01:48:06):
Please. I'm glad you brought this up.
Speaker 3 (01:48:08):
On In Asia, the cigarettes, cards of cigarettes have like black,
crusty up, crusted up lungs on them and like people
with jacked up diseased mouths, like rather than the Surgeon
General's warning, it's like a picture of people with messed
up lungs and teeth and threw like throat holes.
Speaker 1 (01:48:28):
Yeah, ooh that's gross. Yeah. So are people smokers?
Speaker 3 (01:48:33):
There a lot of them, Yes, although they just doubled
the price of smoking a smoke of cigarettes I think
in Korea. So now that the kids are vaping these days, now.
Speaker 4 (01:48:41):
Yeah, the kids aren't all right.
Speaker 2 (01:48:42):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven ninety Our time
is twelve twenty nine. It is a Matt Thomas show
with Ross coming up in one hour from now. We'll
hear from Rockets coach Ima Adoka. Did we ask the
Texans audience if they're fired after this team after the
win against Everybody's juiced?
Speaker 1 (01:49:02):
Yeah, everybody's uebody's juiced. Everybody's juiced, nobody's jewed. We didn't
we'd have a single juice collar. Maybe nobody's listening to us,
but that's fine. We're still enjoying ourselves. Right. Speaking of
the juice, what's the latest on that possible confession audio?
Oh you gotta ask Adam, that's true. We gotta go
to that an expert.
Speaker 4 (01:49:20):
Yeah, he's our official oj ON file guy.
Speaker 1 (01:49:23):
And we call him Oretholed Orenthal, James Clanton. Have we
heard the audio yet? Does anybody know what this audio is?
Speaker 10 (01:49:29):
No?
Speaker 1 (01:49:31):
All right, So if you're not juicing the Texans, are
we juicing the Rockets with exception of what happened last night?
I say yes, but I'm always juiced, and I was juicing.
They were losing sixty games, but that was by myself
gets my juices flowing. I remember that, But I remember
what was in a reference for you need to use
(01:49:52):
it on Friday. For sure.
Speaker 2 (01:49:54):
We haven't had anything from you, like in two weeks.
We gotta that's good color. You got a super clean
ear on to him. Make sure he's got something he
wants to say, My best behavior, you better not be
twelve thirty Sports Doc seven Hony with the word right
now for love Volleyball. L OVB Love Volleyball is League
one volleyball. I look forward to watching volleyball.
Speaker 1 (01:50:16):

(01:51:03):
here from San Francisco. Ross, the co host of the show.
That Matt Thomas Show is Ross twelve thirty four. Sports
Talk seven ninety seven one three two one two five
seven nine. If you want to jump into the conversation
seven one three two one two five seventy speaking of college,
Connor Wegman is leaving.
Speaker 1 (01:51:22):
Texas A and m does anybody need a quarterback? I
mean I know his dad, you do, Yeah, it's school
with him. Oh I think I remember this story now.
Speaker 2 (01:51:40):
Yeah, he's two years older than I am. I have
not spoken, I mean they have said two words to two.
Speaker 1 (01:51:44):
You're not making moves, Maddie come on, I mean, you
know what what what I don't know? Is it gonna
come down to playing time? Is it gonna come down
to nil money? I mean yes, I don't know.
Speaker 4 (01:51:56):
Yeah, it's really it's gonna be the highest bidder.
Speaker 1 (01:52:00):
Is a five star prospect?
Speaker 2 (01:52:03):
I mean he had some success at A and M.
I think in the right situation, I have no compete,
probably would be.
Speaker 1 (01:52:08):
Yeah. I don't know. Currently the top quarterback in the
in the portal? Is he really is? Have you ever
been who said that?
Speaker 4 (01:52:15):
Is that somebody of like twenty four sevens four or
something like that?
Speaker 1 (01:52:17):
Okay, yeah, I don't know. My guess is he will
have numerous offers to choose from. I think so too.
But Big twelve being at home, Mom and Deck can
watch you every night. Cut the check, Maddy.
Speaker 2 (01:52:34):
The company that spent the money on his nil and
college station is a Houston based company.
Speaker 3 (01:52:38):
Just okay, I see you working, just saying it did
Willie Fritz fire. He fired his offensive coordinator.
Speaker 2 (01:52:46):
He fired his offensive coordinator, and his defensive coordinator is
going to Texas Tech, which I'm stunned because I don't
I didn't ever thought text Tech ever played any defense.
Speaker 3 (01:52:55):
Yeah, it's a low bar, then, right, you hold him
to fifty. You're doing good at Tech.
Speaker 1 (01:52:59):
Isn't that crazy?
Speaker 2 (01:53:00):
We have you and I have grown up, yes, as
kids and as adults watching Texas Tech be a complete
dumpster fire for defensive players. This is what we're talking about.
Forty years of utter futility on the defense. It's almost
like when you get to that part of the state
that it's like a defense, it's a defense free zone.
Speaker 1 (01:53:20):
They've had, well, I know Zach Thomas went there, haven't
they had some other really good defensive players. I can't remember.
I don't. I don't have a yeah, me either in
Texas Tech. Probably not that many of them. But I mean,
I if it we've come up with one name. Yeah,
that's true, it's one.
Speaker 2 (01:53:35):
I mean, I've had plenty of great offensive players. I mean,
obviously one leading the NFL these days, but they've had others.
I mean, we don't have to talk about Michael Crabtree.
Speaker 1 (01:53:46):
Why not? I don't what to do to you? Oh
what did he do to me?
Speaker 2 (01:53:50):
Rodney Blacks your way back in the day, Robert Hall, Hm,
Wes Welker when Wes Welker a Red Raider.
Speaker 1 (01:53:58):
Yeah, they've had some guys. Yeah, I guess so a.
Speaker 4 (01:54:02):
Bunch of quarterbacks that all you know that ultimately, Uh,
Cliff Kingsbury.
Speaker 1 (01:54:06):
I mean BJ Simmons, Sonny Comby b J. Simmons, Saker
Mayfield ish does maker may count of coffee? That's right,
that's right.
Speaker 4 (01:54:16):
But there, I mean, how would you like to Hey, Uh,
you're a you're a linebacker.
Speaker 1 (01:54:21):
Where are you going?
Speaker 10 (01:54:22):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (01:54:22):
Texas Tech?
Speaker 3 (01:54:23):
Oh, it's like Ohio State quarterbacks. Pass does not mean
it does not pass. Results do not mean future success
or lack thereof.
Speaker 4 (01:54:34):
I think going to Texas Tech basically absorbs you from
playing defense.
Speaker 1 (01:54:38):
You're just abssolved.
Speaker 2 (01:54:39):
Yes, yeah, But I mean is there anything else that's
a guarantee in life? Who doesn't like when you go
to somewhere and you know this is gonna happen, Like
you go to Texas Tech, You're gonna have to win
games fifty six to fifty.
Speaker 4 (01:54:51):
Two most weeks.
Speaker 1 (01:54:52):
Yeah, you're talking about sports wise, Texas Tech and Defense
is go to be update.
Speaker 2 (01:55:00):
Texas Tech and Defense is never gonna happen. I'm trying
to think, what what other what what a similar situation
when you would think about going somewhere, and you know
this is going to happen.
Speaker 1 (01:55:14):
Oh well, I mean.
Speaker 2 (01:55:17):
James Franklin led football teams never gonna win big games,
although they got a chance to if they win the
Big Ten championship.
Speaker 1 (01:55:22):
I mean, they're gonna be in the tournament, so they're
they're in there.
Speaker 3 (01:55:24):
I mean, yeah, I'm trying to think of an equivalent, Like,
it's Texas Tech and defense has to be the second defense.
Speaker 2 (01:55:32):
It doesn't happen. All right, y'all get your thinking caps on.
What when you When I say Texas Tech defense, you
say what defense?
Speaker 1 (01:55:42):
Give me?
Speaker 2 (01:55:42):
Give me another parallel, another example of what never happens,
no matter who's the coach, no matter who the kids are.
And I'm not trying to downgrade tex Tech because I
love Texas Tech. My oldest went there. I love going
to Lubbock.
Speaker 1 (01:55:59):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:56:00):
I think it's a great school. I got a lot
of friends that whether Tech fans. But damn, you're talking
about at least a half dozen coaches that have never
been able to coach defense or have any sort of
assemblance of a decent defense seven one, three, two, five seventy.
All I want to know I was to ask you
about before we get to closer to the top of
the hour. So we had a lot of and you
(01:56:21):
were overseas still Rossie. We had a lot of altercations
involving teams after games.
Speaker 1 (01:56:27):
Yeah, planning flag. Everybody's trying to plan a flag. So
the first flag.
Speaker 2 (01:56:32):
Planting was supposed to happen between Michigan Ohio State when
Michigan won at Ohio State, and as it was happening,
I was.
Speaker 1 (01:56:39):
Like, good for them, this is good. This is what
college rivalry is all about.
Speaker 2 (01:56:42):
I didn't realize that five or six games later that
this will be happening in every stadium and people are
fighting everywhere.
Speaker 1 (01:56:47):
Yeah, I guess, can we just And then I didn't
the the the Longhorns players who were like stomping on
the A and M logo and Steve Sarkis and try
to stop that.
Speaker 2 (01:56:55):
Correct see to me, as long as it doesn't involve islands,
which I don't think it's possible when you're doing that.
Speaker 4 (01:57:03):
I don't like Michigan, I don't like Ohio State.
Speaker 2 (01:57:06):
I don't care if to kick the crap out of
each other for three and a half hours after the game.
Speaker 1 (01:57:09):
I kind of liked it. I thought it was an
extra bit of juice.
Speaker 2 (01:57:14):
And the big, the biggest hypocrisy of it all was
so Gus Johnson and our buddy Joel Klatt. We're just going,
this is durable, this is awful for the sport they
gotta have. There's somebody's gotta stop this. Guess what Fox
didn't do, ROSSI then turn away from it.
Speaker 1 (01:57:32):
They showed every city. Yeah, of course, that's what we
do in media. We decry something and then we show
it and show it.
Speaker 2 (01:57:42):
And they didn't say what we're seeing on the field
is so terrible. Let's go back to our studios in
Los Angeles.
Speaker 1 (01:57:48):
No, they didn't.
Speaker 2 (01:57:49):
They like, they kept showing it and showing it and
showing it. And I, you know how mean about how
I feel about college. Rowalries you if you want to
insult me, because I'm a U of H guy, I
get it. If I give it, I gotta take it.
It's just like with you, I call your school pompus
and ragus and holier than dow. You should give it
right back to me.
Speaker 1 (01:58:07):
And you and your loser school continue to never win anything.
Speaker 2 (01:58:11):
Yeah, and you and your school continue to be pompas asses.
I mean that's fine, that's what's all. It's holier than now.
By the way, always saying that Oklahoma's your big ribal,
we we finally have proven to America the best Oklahoma
state is Texas A and M. What without a deut
a doubt. It's what everybody was saying. You were going, everybody, Yeah,
(01:58:34):
we know. We hate A and M more than life itself.
Speaker 1 (01:58:36):
It's about the highest price paid ticket to see a
college game this ever was at Texas A and M.
Past that's because it's the Aggies. No, because trying to
throw their money is this is their super Bowl. Is
the biggest game in the history of the pay scored
zero offensive pass doesn't run the Cotton Bowl every year.
(01:58:56):
He was a college absolutely at the Cotton Bowl every year.
He's like every game. Yeah, it's true. He's like the
official sideline. What are you talking about?
Speaker 2 (01:59:05):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, he was all over the place, spyway.
You're right, Why don't you get some new fans. I
won't get some new celebrity blood.
Speaker 1 (01:59:14):
Man.
Speaker 2 (01:59:15):
I don't sit there and put out the Quaid Brothers.
Every time the University of Houston plays a football.
Speaker 1 (01:59:18):
Game, definition rival a person or thing competing with another
for the same objective or first of purity in the
same field of activity. That's ain't m Texas period. When's
the last time they made an SEC championship game? When's
the last time they won a conference? Period? When's the
last time they won a national championship? Period? Fifteenth? The
(01:59:41):
OU games have been bigger and more important over the year.
It's a bigger rivalry. Yep, Sorry, you don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:59:49):
Just because a bunch of Aggie's fans fell all over
themselves to pay a thousand dollars to watch their team lose.
Speaker 1 (01:59:53):
Oh you mean the rivalry is bigger. You're saying Texas
fans have not spent over a thousands. I'm sure some
of them did.
Speaker 4 (01:59:58):
Oh you know, they did their money, fauners.
Speaker 1 (02:00:01):
They do. They fought their money.
Speaker 2 (02:00:04):
Oh they were there, trust me, you weren't. They were selling.
Let me tell you, Aggie fans, And this is up
to you.
Speaker 1 (02:00:09):
Aggie fans were selling their tickets to Texas fans because.
Speaker 2 (02:00:11):
They were in the middle of sawing varsity's horns off.
And there's this one text dude's handing up with his hook.
Speaker 1 (02:00:16):
Them sign up. Yeah it's one guy.
Speaker 2 (02:00:18):
One guy was sitting there doing it was actually pretty funny,
good for him, all right? Uh seven one three two
one two five seven ninety seven one three two one
two five seven nine zero.
Speaker 7 (02:00:31):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (02:00:31):

Speaker 14 (02:01:34):
Back to Matt Thomas on Sports Talk seven ninety boat
you're home with the stros.
Speaker 2 (02:01:45):
ROSSI I think we need a broadcast talent agent. Worry
is out that Steven A. Smith may be signing a
new deal with ESPN.
Speaker 1 (02:01:56):
Yes, six years. Oh, let me guess, uh sixty keep going?
Speaker 5 (02:02:06):
What?
Speaker 7 (02:02:09):
What?
Speaker 1 (02:02:10):
Keep going? Seventy five? Keep going? Are you serious? Eighty?
Keep going? One hundred, keep going? Oh hundred, six years.
I didn't tell you to stop yet, did I? One
(02:02:31):
hundred and twenty bingo twenty million dollars per year, twenty
million dollars per year to scream about sports man. I
know half the stuff. He's really good for him. I'm
no good for him.
Speaker 3 (02:02:48):
I mean, wow, you gotta I gotta respect his hustle.
I mean he works hard too.
Speaker 2 (02:02:57):
He's on like every show they have, Well, he's gonna
be on every show and then something they're gonna create
a Steven you know, like, is this ESPN s.
Speaker 4 (02:03:06):
A s Stephen A Smith?
Speaker 1 (02:03:08):
Like that he's gonna get his own channel. He needs to.
Speaker 3 (02:03:11):
I mean he's doing like the podcast he does. Yeah,
he's on all the NBA coverage, he does the morning show,
he's everywhere. He works hard.
Speaker 1 (02:03:22):
Is he I respect him more than say, let's get bayless?
Speaker 2 (02:03:25):
Is he a media personality that everybody can't run to
Twitter fast enough to complain about, but yet they watch
every day.
Speaker 1 (02:03:32):
I don't watch him every day. I can't tell you
the last time I said to.
Speaker 2 (02:03:35):
Take yourself out of the mix talking about in the
general mass, because we must somebody. Somebody's research and said,
Stephen A. Smith moves the needle, like, for instance, when
I was growing up as a young man. This is
before I got into business. Everybody's told the whole world
how much they hated Howard Cosell, but yet they watched.
Speaker 1 (02:03:53):
I'm sure I think that.
Speaker 2 (02:03:56):
I think Howard Cosell and Stephen A. Smith are the
same voices in a different generation. Where you despise them,
you hate them, you want to hit them, you want
to go run to your social media as fast as
humanly possible to talk about how bad they are.
Speaker 4 (02:04:13):
But yet if there's an important.
Speaker 2 (02:04:15):
ESPN event on Steven Asmith puts them on, and he's
put on that show whatever it happens to be, and
people do watch it.
Speaker 3 (02:04:23):
M yeah, I guess. I mean somebody's watching. They're not
shelling out twenty million dollars for nothing, but.
Speaker 4 (02:04:30):
The show they have on runs and art runs between
nine and eleven AM in the morning.
Speaker 1 (02:04:35):
First take, I thought, it's it's only two hours, that's it.
I didn't know that. Yeah, most Americans, not all, but
most have eight to five jobs.
Speaker 2 (02:04:48):
Yes, so you're gonna pay somebody twenty million dollars a
year to work a handful of NBA events, a couple
of boxings, do a podcast, do a couple of TV specials,
and host a show at nine o'clock in the morning
or in the East ten o'clock in the morning, non
(02:05:11):
drive time spots. Television, the industry itself is crazy. What
they spend Tom Brady, Tony Romo, Trey Aikman, Joe Buck.
Speaker 1 (02:05:27):
I mean, these are.
Speaker 4 (02:05:28):
Mega, mega, mega millionaires.
Speaker 2 (02:05:32):
And at the same time you have those networks, the ESPNS,
the Foxes, the CBS's laying people off.
Speaker 4 (02:05:43):
I'm not an accountant, no.
Speaker 1 (02:05:45):
I'll ever try to be one, but it it's it's
just crazy.
Speaker 2 (02:05:49):
It's crazy how companies, especially in media, will super overpay
for the number one guy at the expense of hundreds
of people that are not the number one.
Speaker 3 (02:06:03):
Yeah, I mean, I think that's part of it. Is
there there's a market so I don't even know where
them are. Who who's he competing with?
Speaker 1 (02:06:08):
Five? I mean, if f F would FS one offer
him that kind of.
Speaker 4 (02:06:11):
Different twenty million dollars, No chance, they don't.
Speaker 1 (02:06:13):
They don't.
Speaker 4 (02:06:14):
They don't want him even thinking about going somewhere else.
Speaker 1 (02:06:16):
They don't want him going to well. I mean, think
about this. You could you could go to You could say,
Steven A.
Speaker 2 (02:06:21):
Smith, go to NBC because they're going to be carrying
a bunch of NBA games. They're getting involved in more
and more sports. You could go to T and T
and because they're now.
Speaker 1 (02:06:31):
Getting involved in college and pro football, a college football
in college pass. I mean, I guess there is somebody
out there, but for Steven A.
Speaker 2 (02:06:40):
Smith to be able to drive the marketplace with that
kind of money when in reality there isn't a lot
of major competition.
Speaker 1 (02:06:46):
There is.
Speaker 2 (02:06:47):
I mean, ESPN is number one broadcasting network out there
and number two is not FS whatever you want to
call It.
Speaker 4 (02:06:52):
Is not even close to being a second ABC.
Speaker 2 (02:06:57):
Disney just is going to make sure he's locked up
and put him on a bunch of stuff, and obviously
they've got some rate of return on him being able
to drive advertising.
Speaker 1 (02:07:08):
It's all about advertising, That's what it is. It's not
about his takes.
Speaker 2 (02:07:12):
It's not about his opinions or who he knows or
what guess he gets on. It's when he goes on.
Do people watch his show and do advertisers want to
spend money on that show?
Speaker 1 (02:07:23):
That's it.
Speaker 4 (02:07:25):
And the answer closely is yes. Now it's a not
done deal.
Speaker 2 (02:07:30):
But the rumors New York Posts had a story out
this morning or yesterday about it, said that it's on
the verge of a six year deal worth one hundred
and twenty million dollars.
Speaker 3 (02:07:39):
Oh well, I saw awful Announcing made a post and
it was mad Dog Russo kind of maybe hinting at it.
They were asking how he was doing, and he's like, well,
I know Steven's having a good morning.
Speaker 1 (02:07:50):
I know that for sure.
Speaker 3 (02:07:51):
Something like that kind of like a sly comment. Say
that one more time, Chris, mad Dog Russo. I guess
today I first take Molly Karen was like, how's everyone feeling?
Are we chipper? And then Chris, you know, mad Dog
was like, the guy in front of me is very chipper.
Talking about Steven, I'll guarantee you that, Hello, Steve.
Speaker 1 (02:08:08):
How are you? I kind of maybe able to make
making a hint that that could be a deal is done? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (02:08:14):
And god, I mean, the Roman money is crazy. The
Brady money is crazy. The Brady money is so great
that it might not be good enough because I think
he's gonna have a chance to buy more of the Raiders,
and that's a better investment for buy more.
Speaker 1 (02:08:31):
Yeah. I think I think he would be better suited
to buy more of the Raiders than he would to
get out of his I mean, if he had to
give up his Fox contract to buy more of the Raiders,
I would buy more of the Raiders, wouldn't you. Uh? Yeah,
I guess so. Unless he really wants to be around
the game, he.
Speaker 2 (02:08:51):
Can be around the game and he can control things.
I mean, the Fox money is great, but I think
I think NFL ownership is even better than that. All right,
twelve fifty six, let's start the final hour of the show.
Imey A Dooka is going to join us in thirty
five minutes, we believe it or not. Today all things
about John Runyon. We have Rockets lost and last night
against Sacramento. If you did not hear the comments from
em A Dooka will replay those for you as well. Uh,
(02:09:13):
we're still waiting on one soda where he's going to
end up. Also, we have the Astros still winning for
Alex Bregman. It has been all kind of quiet on that.
We have the nf the NCAA Football CFP rate announcement
yesterday and the latest that's the last one before the
championship games this week, And apparently there is a lot
(02:09:36):
of hate for a three loss Alabama team that's getting serious,
considerable run for making the playoff. Meanwhile, SMU fans alike,
if we lose this game to Clemson the ACC Championship,
we might lose an opportunity to be in the tournament overall.
So a lot of people are a lot of hand
ringing right now going on that seven one three two
one two five seven ninety seven to one three two
(02:09:56):
one two five seven ninety final hour the Matt Thomas Show.
Speaker 1 (02:09:59):
After You're a word from Ross, Yeah, a word for
me about how you feeling. How you doing now?
Speaker 3 (02:10:05):

you've been slowing down? You don't feel like yourself. Are
you struggling to lose weight?

Speaker 1 (02:10:55):
Launch timers.
Speaker 2 (02:10:57):
This is The Matt Thomas Show, Final Hour, The Matt
Thomas Show with Ross.
Speaker 1 (02:11:02):
I'm here in San Francisco.
Speaker 2 (02:11:03):
Ross is back in our Houston studios, and you are
you at seven to one three and two point two
five seven niney if you want to jump in and
say hello, seven one three two one two five seven
ninety Rockets last night fall to the Sacramento Kings.
Speaker 1 (02:11:16):
They still advance to the knockout round. Winning the group.
Speaker 2 (02:11:18):
They are the number two seed and they will take
on the Golden State Warriors not only tomorrow in a
regular season game, but another regular season game which will
feature the Warriors will be in Houston, and that'll be
one week from today in a knockout round game. If
the Rockets win that, they will go to Las Vegas
to play in the semifinals of the NBA Cup.
Speaker 4 (02:11:37):
And then if they win the whole thing. I think
the prize is five one hundred thousand dollars.
Speaker 1 (02:11:44):
I don't know ross For me, I'm.
Speaker 2 (02:11:46):
Kind of excited about it because it's selfishly about Vegas.
I don't know if the average NBA fan is driving
to it or it feels like it's adding anything more.
I don't this audience that we speak to every day
ten to two doesn't feel like it's adding a whole
lot to it. But all I can say is the
rockets are better. They were not in this position a
year ago. They're significantly over five hundred. I'm hoping that
(02:12:09):
the next Cup you can you use to give us
some additional buzz. I just don't know if the NBA
Cups can be the thing that's gonna make it happen.
Speaker 3 (02:12:14):
I'm locked in, Matt, I'm all in NBA Cup. I
don't caught the fever. Can't wait not, I don't believe
you at all.
Speaker 1 (02:12:21):
Let's go. No.
Speaker 4 (02:12:24):
Uh, I don't even know the television rings any better
or not. I don't you know.
Speaker 1 (02:12:28):
Again, it's TV ratings gonna be good when the games
are good and the stars around. Yeah, but I mean
those courts are such an eyesore for TV. Last night
wasn't bad, Sacramento wasn't bad. Some of them were a disaster?
Were were we? Oh?
Speaker 4 (02:12:44):
Minnesota's court was lime green?
Speaker 1 (02:12:45):
That was bad. What is it like calling games on
these courts? Is that adjustment or is it fine? It's fine?
You know what?
Speaker 2 (02:12:53):
To me, though, I'm always afraid that there's some sort
of like lacquer on the top of the court that
make because I see like players are sliding a lot
more interesting that maybe that's just me, so if you
did not stay up late last night. There were a
lot of tiki tac calls called against the Rockets. There
was a couple of times that Jalen Green got hit,
(02:13:13):
there were a couple of times at Alprin Shinggoon got
hit in the face, and there were some non calls
that Ima Adoka did not like, and he got ejected
from the game, as did Alprin Hing Gooon, and then
Jalen excuse me. Then I May went to the podium
posting like he does after every game, and he said
a few things, and I think he knew. He had
(02:13:35):
to have known that what he was about to say
was going to cost him ultimately some money. And we're
not going to get too deep into his pocket book
because that's not our responsibility. But here's what Ima had
to say about the officials and the performance they had
last night.
Speaker 1 (02:13:48):
What was going on? What did you see out there
on the floor that.
Speaker 6 (02:13:50):
You was disappointing miscalls, blatant miss calls right in front
of you. You know, you're calling tick attack and movie
screens and look like that, and then you don't want
to call the obvious ones in front of you, so
that was it. I hope you got fouled a few
times on that drive and on the layup, and they
don't want to call it, and so get some glasses.
Speaker 1 (02:14:08):
Open your eyes. It's so good every time. I don't
think I can listen to that enough. I really don't.
It's impossible make that my ring tone.
Speaker 2 (02:14:23):
It's like, you know what we need, and when do you?
I mean, we've never gotten to do this obviously, but
T shirts is where you go, right, I like that.
Speaker 1 (02:14:31):
Of course you're gonna want to put sports MT on
there somewhere. I mean, we'll put your we'll put your
Moniker on there as well. Get some bleeping glasses open
your eyes. I mean it for the whole world to hear.
Speaker 2 (02:14:48):
I'll get Berkeley. I started to pick up the tab
on there go. I like that turn into a sponsor mention.
Speaker 1 (02:14:54):
I'm with it. Let's go.
Speaker 3 (02:14:57):
You should just you should start saying that in your spots.
Get some bleeping surgery. Open your eyes.
Speaker 2 (02:15:03):
If you're an official and your blindness a bat and
you need great eyewear, go to see my friends at
Berkeley Ice Center.
Speaker 1 (02:15:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:15:09):
The Officials Association or union or whatever not gonna can't
be happy about these comments.
Speaker 1 (02:15:15):
Yeah, uh and I have.
Speaker 2 (02:15:17):
Look, I've seen I may charged up before, but ROSSI
he crossed over mid court. He was he had to
be restrained two or three times. M hm, because I
think not only did he get tossed, which is first
of all, is gonna make you mad. But I I
don't know if John Goebel, the official that tossed him,
(02:15:38):
I don't know if he flexed or he's like what
at me said, come at me bro, which if John
Goebel did that, he is going to get his ass kicked,
because is going to crush you like a grape.
Speaker 1 (02:15:53):
Oh man, Emadoka, I've.
Speaker 3 (02:15:58):
This's got to be one of the best quotes in
like Rockets coaching history or Houston coaching history.
Speaker 1 (02:16:03):
Well, he also took umbrage with Lebron last year.
Speaker 2 (02:16:06):
Remember that, Yes, absolutely called him a soft soft ass
soft ass be Yeah, I believe that was correct. I
just know that I'm a pretty good wordsman, you know
when it comes to like insults and stuff and calling
people names. Hmmm, I don't I think I would. I
would lose one one of those when there's.
Speaker 1 (02:16:24):
A TV show. What's that what you're saying? You're a
pretty good wordsman. You know what I mean, like insulter,
I can't like I can insult with the best of them.
I'm a wordsmith. I'm an wardsman. I'm an insulter. Come on, man, Yeah, yeah,
I'm a good insulter. I can insult with the best.
That's true. He may have me beat. He may is
(02:16:49):
pretty good. He may's man. I mean, that was that
was just cold. He he knows he's getting he knows.
Speaker 3 (02:16:56):
He's getting fine when he says that, and he still
just goes he goes right through it. He did just
no no hesitation, and he email is a smart guy.
Speaker 2 (02:17:07):
He knew this was I don't want to say it
was measured because it's still here of the moment. I mean,
you're talking ten minutes after game. You're still really pissed off.
Remember that the ejection happened late in the fourth quarter.
It wasn't like it was like early third. So we'll
see what he says in twenty minutes.
Speaker 1 (02:17:28):
But he entered it. Well, you don't try to get
him in trouble, Matt. I'm not going to.
Speaker 2 (02:17:32):
I'm just going you know, I'm gonna lay it out
and say how let's do address rehearsal on this.
Speaker 1 (02:17:37):
You want to Yeah, you be you be me? You
go and I'll try to be you. May oh me?
Who uh uh? Who am I am? I the me?
Speaker 4 (02:17:48):
You're me?
Speaker 7 (02:17:48):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (02:17:48):
I'm matt uh. Hey, I love to make rib and stop.
Speaker 4 (02:17:55):
What I'm not bringing up the McRib? That maya doka, coach.
Speaker 3 (02:18:00):
The greatest salence of the world is this press gristle
sheet of pork called the McRib?
Speaker 1 (02:18:05):
What do you think? Oh? How about that fine coach?
He hasn't had the fine yet. We are you gonna
get fried? Did you say that knowing you were gonna
get fined? Coach?
Speaker 4 (02:18:15):
No, I'm not doing it that way.
Speaker 7 (02:18:18):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (02:18:18):
Are we were being serious?
Speaker 3 (02:18:20):
Hey, coach, did you want to speak about your comments
last night about the officials? And did you have anything
to say about your comments now that the cooling part
period has really subsided and then some Is there anything
you would like to say about your comments last night?
Speaker 2 (02:18:34):
I'm going to change it around a little bit. I'm
gonna go with Hey, coach, how's it going? Oh, okay,
kind of leave it open ended, you know what I mean.
It's much safer for me that way. Yeah, okay, So
he'll join us in about twenty minutes from now Rockets
to off today tomorrow will take on Golden State and
then at the La Clippers on Sunday in their brain
(02:18:55):
new into a dome. Apparently it's just ridiculously fancy.
Speaker 1 (02:19:01):
They got the student section that going there too. What
do they call them? The wall? The wall? But doesn't
that have like a wall of fans like that too?
I mean there's about six Red rowdies left? Are they
like a lums? Tilman's been whittling that section down for
a while. Hey, I'm just saying it used to be
(02:19:23):
like a full section.
Speaker 2 (02:19:25):
Do you have to if you if if you're a
Red rowding I've not been over there in a while,
do you have to dress up like in like a
costume or something to be a Red round?
Speaker 1 (02:19:34):
I know? Do they still have tryouts? Yeah? Current Red
rowdies or former Red rowdies.
Speaker 3 (02:19:37):
I'd be curious to hear, because it's it's about half
a six rows these.
Speaker 2 (02:19:41):
Days, because you don't if you go to see Rocky
horror picture, you get a dress up for that, don't you.
Speaker 1 (02:19:46):
Yeah, I don't think Rockets game is the same. But
my one is you have to dress up and fishnets
and black lipstick. Well people, I don't know. I don't
think it's the same that. Have you ever seen anything?
Have you ever seen Rocky Horror Pictures?
Speaker 10 (02:20:00):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (02:20:01):
I saw. I did it in Austin.
Speaker 3 (02:20:02):
Everybody was like, oh, you gotta watch rock or Horror
a Rocky Horror picture show in Austin.
Speaker 1 (02:20:07):
It's like it's one of the biggest Austin things to do.
And I did it, and I was like, this is
these people are weirdos. I've never seen it before.
Speaker 3 (02:20:13):
Oh you never Okay, I did it. I saw it
at the theater while the people are re enacting it
under and I was like, man, these people.
Speaker 1 (02:20:17):
Need to get a life.
Speaker 2 (02:20:18):
But I mean, I think when you go see the
movie back into when it was made in the seventies,
you have that's when you have to stilt the dress
up and you have to throw fruit at the stage with.
Speaker 4 (02:20:25):
The screen or something I don't know or what.
Speaker 1 (02:20:27):
They arrest you if you don't. No, I think you
just you know. It's like did you know this this
wicked movie? There are some movies that let you sing
along with the movie, and there's some movies are people
singing along in the theater?
Speaker 2 (02:20:39):
No, yep, absolutely are they're horrible, and apparently there are
some movie theaters that are saying we do not want
you to sing.
Speaker 1 (02:20:47):
We want Okay, I want to go to that one.
Speaker 3 (02:20:49):
I do want to see I've never seen Wicked, and
it's a huge deal to so many people, so I'm
curious to check. I will check it out. And I
don't hate musicals. I respect a musical game, but I
don't know if I want to be there for everybody's
gonna be singing.
Speaker 1 (02:21:03):
It looks like the CGI and stuff is cool, so
I want to see it on I'm but there are
sometimes you can go that they will encourage you to sing.
Speaker 3 (02:21:10):
Okay, I don't want to go to that one. I
don't want to go to the sing along. Where do
I opt out of the sing along tickets?
Speaker 1 (02:21:16):
But how do you know ahead of time?
Speaker 2 (02:21:18):
I mean, where do we look for just if you
want to go on a movie app, is it say
sing along version accepted?
Speaker 1 (02:21:23):
You can't sing? Yeah? I don't know.
Speaker 4 (02:21:26):
This is out of our room because I don't think
I'm gonna see it.
Speaker 1 (02:21:28):
I have no interest in it. Okay with me? Nobody
nobody saying when I saw it, oh there you go?
Was it good? It was good. Were you familiar with
the songs and the musical itself? I was not? Actually? Okay, yeah,
bros or what you who went? Oh yeah, there you go.
Oh you took your mom out. That's outstanding. Did she
(02:21:48):
like it? She loved it? Yeah, okay, good, she had
seen it before. Was there a warning please don't sing?
There was not a warning. No, but everybody was playing
didn't sing. It would annoyed you if they would have sunk?
Correct kind of yeah. Can you tell me you sing
better in the area on a Grande? I don't think so.
I don't think so. That's great.
Speaker 4 (02:22:11):
By the way, Ross Connor and I have a future.
Speaker 1 (02:22:13):
Uh the similar likeness for with appreciation for Ariana Grande? Well,
who doesn't like her?
Speaker 2 (02:22:21):
I don't know, but I think she's better as a
as a as a U when she sings other people's
music than she sings her own. M okay, when she
acts like she's Britney Spears. By way, did you see
that Britney Spears thinks she's five years old? Now, Yeah,
she's been having some mental health issues for a while,
right you think?
Speaker 1 (02:22:37):
Yeah? Kind of never mind?
Speaker 2 (02:22:42):
I mean, you know, I'll be in la this week,
and I wonder if we run into her because she
goes to Beverly Hills Hotels and just like apparently gets
into massive fights with people.
Speaker 1 (02:22:50):
That's true, wouldn't she causing a whole scene before? Mm hmm?
Sometimes she takes her clothes off, Matt, So maybe you
do want to be around.
Speaker 4 (02:22:57):
I mean, if she needs mental health, we can help
her take it a lunch.
Speaker 3 (02:23:01):
I don't think that's kind of help she needs. I
don't think she needs any kind of help you're trying
to provide.
Speaker 1 (02:23:06):
Hey, I'm a good friend.

He may Doug is going to join us at ten

ninety seven one three two one two five seven nine
zero couple things real quick ross. The NFL is having
their appeals hearing right now for Alsiz Ausha Air in
his three game suspension. Ramon Fostery, former NFL guard played
(02:24:44):
for the Pittsburgh Steelers from the majority of his eleven
year career, is running that he is a guy that
was approved by both the Players Association and the NFL.
HMM think John Runyon's statement towards the back end is
going to negatively affect what this appeals board says, basically saying,
are you getting a little too.
Speaker 4 (02:25:05):
Painting of a broad brush by talking about how bad
this guy is?
Speaker 1 (02:25:09):
Holier than now? Is what I was gonna say. I
don't know, maybe yeah, I mean there the thing isn't crazy.
Speaker 2 (02:25:19):
And I brought this up of the show yesterday there
were the Houston homersm has come through like never should
have been fined, never should have been suspended.
Speaker 1 (02:25:29):
It was Trevor Lawrence. I was like, we have to
start having a little bit of objectivity now.
Speaker 2 (02:25:35):
As I mentioned before, Ross, there are some fake meeting
Houston frauds that want to you know, get in good
with the McNair's. They can get Christmas cards in them
and whatnot, and so they're gonna obviously have a protext
and slant on that. Yes, but we got we gotta
be objective about this. Three am my objective of viewpoint.
This is my view of it being objective. It's three
games is too much. One feels about.
Speaker 3 (02:25:53):
Right if if you had with the ejection, what was
in the second quarter, yep, with the ejection, he missed
a half.
Speaker 1 (02:26:01):
Of the game.
Speaker 3 (02:26:02):
You add on a game under that that seems about right,
because three is excessive.
Speaker 2 (02:26:06):
Yeah, because Sarah said yesterday, you know he's gonna be
out of our building for a month. You know what
was he gonna do?
Speaker 1 (02:26:10):
I mean, I think he'll be a leg Yeah, I mean,
he knows how to work out.
Speaker 2 (02:26:15):
It's not like he's gonna sit on his couch, put
his hand between his legs and start eating cheeseburgers all
the time.
Speaker 1 (02:26:22):
Well, that'd be bad if you did. I mean, I don't.
Speaker 4 (02:26:24):
I don't expect a serious weight gain during his suspension.
Speaker 1 (02:26:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:26:30):
So, but don't you think John Runyan, who is the
who's in charge of this, doesn't have to run this
statement by some people?
Speaker 1 (02:26:39):
Don't anybody you just oh, I'm sure you know John
Runyon probably don't even write that, but he had to.
Speaker 4 (02:26:45):
He had to sign off of because it was his quality.
Speaker 1 (02:26:47):
Yeah right, probably, Yeah, this sounds fine. Sure, Yeah, he
calls his secretary. Can you write something up about this.
Speaker 3 (02:26:56):
Guy, GBT, Can you write a strong handed statement about
ziz elsha Here's suspension.
Speaker 2 (02:27:02):
Yeah, and go over the things he's done in the
past and just kind of just paint and just say,
you know what he's done all these four or five
different penalties in the last two years as a Titan,
as a Texan.
Speaker 1 (02:27:11):
Let's go ahead and make him a bad guy. It
was a bad hit. I mean he punched Roshan Johnson
in the fair. He does have a history of these
late hits.
Speaker 4 (02:27:20):
Something happened earlier this year against Chicago.
Speaker 1 (02:27:22):
Yeah, it started about an hour ago. Did you say
that part? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (02:27:29):
I did.
Speaker 1 (02:27:29):
I did you know? How long do those things last?
I'm sorry? No, how sorry? Are you? I mean, like,
whenever you got suspen Did you ever get suspended in
high school? Uh?
Speaker 2 (02:27:42):
No, I never got suspended. I got kicked out of
class one time. I had to go talk to the
vice principal. That conversation took fifteen minutes. I had in
school suspension a few times.
Speaker 4 (02:27:52):
Did you I don't think Yeah, you sound like it's
a badge of honor.
Speaker 1 (02:27:58):
No, I'll just say, are you that shocked? As when
I thought I was my my monest stunned? People like
are you that surprised? I mean, I'm kind of thinking
that surprised you actually went to school. I don't think
they even take attendance at Aldi Nimmens.
Speaker 3 (02:28:11):
Hey, come on, baby, it's not old enrollment or it's
not a we got grades at least back in my day.
Speaker 1 (02:28:16):
I during my grades.
Speaker 2 (02:28:17):
I think they just require you at nimics to show
up on days with account of tendants for state for
state funding.
Speaker 3 (02:28:22):
Yeah, and they hand you. Everybody gets a gun when
you get in that way. Nobody shoot gets shot.
Speaker 1 (02:28:29):
That's an alum not me saying that, just kidding. Shout
out to all of you and Aaron Glenn. Shout out
Aaron Glenn and Britney Grinder.
Speaker 2 (02:28:36):
By the way, Aaron Glenn may be becoming the most
famous alumate when he becomes a head coach.
Speaker 3 (02:28:41):
So I don't know, Britney Grinder is in brold in
an international incident. We have to give a war criminal
back to get her?
Speaker 1 (02:28:48):
Yeah? You you need here to be the second most
famous agu don't you.
Speaker 2 (02:28:52):
You want Aaron Glenn, longtime NFL player, great defensive coordinator
with the Detroit Lions, and now he's going to be
a head coach of you know insert at school.
Speaker 1 (02:29:00):
Yeah or team? Yeah, our team. That's true. Yeah, they'll
say with that, but I just think it was. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:29:08):
I don't know how long does it take. I mean,
are they going to show the video.
Speaker 1 (02:29:12):
And say what were you thinking?
Speaker 2 (02:29:13):
How bad do you feel what happened with this first
fight you had, what happened with this second fight you had.
I mean, I think it's gonna take a lot, honestly,
That's why I said yesterday, And like I said, I
hope I'm wrong, but I that was such a venomous
statement by running that, I thought to myself, Man, they
must really have the goods on this guy.
Speaker 1 (02:29:33):
Yeah, they they really, Yeah, they really came out strongly.
So we'll see what happens.
Speaker 3 (02:29:38):
Jonathan m Alexander saying he expects the ruling today, maybe
even soon, so it could fall into the lapse of
Adam and Adam.
Speaker 4 (02:29:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:29:48):
Yeah, seven one three two one two five seven ninety
seven to one three two one two five.
Speaker 1 (02:29:53):
Yeah. You know, all the big news happens during the
eighteen and now they're an hour earlier. They get they
get trade deadline ROSSI, they get press conferences. We used
to carry.
Speaker 2 (02:30:03):
Demiko when it was releable. You don't get that anymore.
We did get Nikki c for thirty minutes yesterday. That
that was the most powerful thirty minutes of this radio
shows had in about three months.
Speaker 1 (02:30:12):
Yeah, I heard it was extremely powerful when you get.
Speaker 2 (02:30:15):
That Texas GM dropping a BS card on the show
and to bleep it. Those of you listening on the internet,
you enjoyed it, Yes, get that.
Speaker 1 (02:30:23):
Yeah, but he was. He was absolutely fired up, and
I always thought about I wonder if he was. I
don't think he was fired up about defending his player.
I think he was fired up by john Nyon's statement.
I think that's what really got.
Speaker 2 (02:30:34):
Him, because that might be he basically said, your character
assassing this guy.
Speaker 1 (02:30:37):
You don't know who he is, what he's done. He's
never been fined before, never been He's been fine, never
been suspended before for anything, and you are sitting here
taking every little thing he's done with this one nasty hit,
and granted was nasty, making him out to be a
guy that has complete disregard for the NFL. I don't know,
there's like a fool disease. I'll share her dirty play. Well,
(02:30:59):
he squeeted out yesterday. He doesn't tweet very much. I
think he s went down to seven times an hour,
but you know he he put it out there at
Adam J. Wexler on Twitter one hundred and twenty one
thousand posts. How mean do I have. Can you see
how many I have? Yeah? You got? I think you're
in the forties. What's your name? Sports? Empty? Oh not familiar?
(02:31:20):
Hold on?
Speaker 4 (02:31:21):
You know he's one hundred and twenty one thousand tweets.
Speaker 1 (02:31:24):
On mean forty six k. Damn, he's tweeted three times
as much. He's giving up three times.
Speaker 7 (02:31:32):
Now.
Speaker 3 (02:31:33):
I'm gonna say, there's been a lot of useful information.
Your tweets are usually I don't know, just bad, bad
references at Sanford and Son.
Speaker 1 (02:31:39):
At least he's given out info.
Speaker 4 (02:31:41):
If you rip on Sandford and Son again, we're gonna
have the problem.
Speaker 1 (02:31:44):
I didn't rip on Sandford and Son. That's a great show.
Speaker 4 (02:31:48):
Classic. I still get caught up in YouTube of Esther
versus Fred Sandford.
Speaker 1 (02:31:52):
You do, Oh, absolutely well. They haven't produced any more
than forty years. How many? How many do you have
to say? Just when when they fight? It's so good?
Speaker 3 (02:32:03):
Okay, I'll take your word for it. You know what,
Send me your send me your top three favorites, and
I'll watch it.
Speaker 4 (02:32:09):
I'm gonna send him to you, and you're gonna lack
your ass off.
Speaker 1 (02:32:11):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (02:32:12):
You guys know, you get on a you you go
on your Facebook reels of your TikTok and watch Fred
and Ast fight and you'd be like, that's some damn
funny stuff. Emai Doke is up next eight on Sports.
Speaker 1 (02:32:23):
Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (02:32:27):
Rockets are headed do a little shoot around here in
a few minutes, and so coach is still on the
bus and we.
Speaker 1 (02:32:32):
Will call him back in just a couple of minutes.
Believe it or not.
Speaker 2 (02:32:36):
Today will be John Runyon. That'll be coming up tomorrow
on the radio program Ross. You'll have the return of
the Rotten Five. Excited about that? You got to you
have some you have some serious homework to do.
Speaker 1 (02:32:46):
Oh okay, explain.
Speaker 4 (02:32:48):
I mean, do you know who the five worst teams
are in the NFL?
Speaker 1 (02:32:51):
I could probably could ass sartificantly change in the last
few weeks Jaguars Panthers. Did you?
Speaker 4 (02:33:01):
Is there much a NFL coverage overseas?
Speaker 1 (02:33:03):
Over there? Were you? Very little?
Speaker 3 (02:33:04):
No, the games are if the games are on like
three am, it's ridiculous.
Speaker 1 (02:33:10):
You can get games are on like ten am. What
American sports? Were you able to see none on TV
or anything? Anything I watched I streamed on my phone.
Speaker 2 (02:33:21):
Okay, that's good and they're like, hey, yeah, go ahead
the ESPN app you got on your phone just no problem.
Speaker 3 (02:33:26):
Uh, well, yes, if I was on Wi Fi, it
was blocked and said I was out of the country.
But since I also did like a global data plan,
and when I was on data, for example, if I
wanted to watch ESPN or Peacock Fizzle was watching Primary League,
if I did it on the data, it was fine.
I don't know why, maybe because my phone is American.
(02:33:46):
But when I did went on Wi Fi, anytime I
tried to go on Wi Fi would not work. It
would tell me I was out of the country and
it was blocked.
Speaker 4 (02:33:52):
Did you swear at your phone a lot and say,
what's going on?
Speaker 1 (02:33:55):
I can't figure this out out.
Speaker 3 (02:33:56):
I mean normally it was the middle of the night
when it was on, so I was I was generally
watching like as I was going to bed or something.
Speaker 1 (02:34:02):
Was there any TV shows you saw they're like, this
is really funny.
Speaker 4 (02:34:04):
I wish I knew what they were saying.
Speaker 3 (02:34:05):
No, I no, I didn't watch a whole lot of
Korean TV. I was I was out seeing the sights.
Speaker 1 (02:34:10):
Matt, you were out, I wasn't.
Speaker 3 (02:34:13):
I wasn't home watching TV. I wasn't watching like Uh,
Korean judge, mais no. No, Korean judge, Judy, No, I
don't think so what good were you for them?
Speaker 1 (02:34:26):
All?
Speaker 2 (02:34:26):
Right, step beside them. We'll let you take a break.
Let's talk to our friend to the head basketball coach
the Houston Rockets. Rockets getting a little bit of a
workout in here. And before that, we say hi to
a coach a Doka here on the Matt Thomas Show
with Ross coach. Good morning, I guess i'd like to
ask you how you slept?
Speaker 1 (02:34:44):
Slept great? Are you? I'm sleepy? What are you talking about?
We got here at what third in the morning? It's crazy?
Speaker 2 (02:34:52):
Hey, my man, interesting night. Uh have you heard from
anybody at the office or is all good right now?
Speaker 7 (02:35:00):
Shortly I'll be hearing shortly, So go from there.
Speaker 1 (02:35:03):
Oh oh okay.
Speaker 10 (02:35:04):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (02:35:05):
Without getting into too much great detail, obviously you were
displeased with some of the some actually maybe a lot
of the officials calls last night.
Speaker 6 (02:35:14):
Yeah, obviously you know when the game is called one
way in the first half and then it kind of
flips in the second half, and.
Speaker 7 (02:35:23):
By the touch fouls and certain things that go.
Speaker 6 (02:35:26):
If you want to if you want to not call
fouls that really benefits us, So please do that from
the start and let us be who we are defensively.
Other than that, didn't love the seven to one event
as they had, including three offensive fouls on us on
moving screens.
Speaker 7 (02:35:39):
To start the third quarter and poiste my displeasure later
on in the game.
Speaker 1 (02:35:43):
Yes, you did the moving screen in itself? Do they
do you? Generally? Speaking? Officials?
Speaker 2 (02:35:50):
Is it as hard or as is it an easy
call in your mind, because look, you teach obviously, and
all coaches trying to teach the proper fundamentals with the
big men setting the screens to make sure the feed
are planned and you're not leaning.
Speaker 4 (02:35:59):
A hip in or shoulder in.
Speaker 7 (02:36:01):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (02:36:02):
Is it? Is it a constant problem? Do you do?
Speaker 2 (02:36:05):
Is it occasional where you go, hey that's TICKI tak
or hey you got to start calling a little bit
more of me?
Speaker 1 (02:36:09):
What do you where? Do you see how screens are.
Speaker 4 (02:36:11):
Generally officiated in the NBA, It's really a judgment call.
Speaker 6 (02:36:15):
It's you know, certain rests call it a higher frequency,
and we know that we know the guys who do
call it, But it's a judgment call that you could.
Speaker 7 (02:36:23):
Call on every play.
Speaker 6 (02:36:24):
There are some egregious ones that are obviously right in
front of you, but there are is a judgment call.
It could be called on every screen. Guys moved their hip,
move slightly, whatever it is, and you know, just to
have three of those in the third quarter, let alone
four other fouls and be it that disadvantage having them
an early bonus after we were allowed to play aggressive
in the first half is what really stood out to me.
Speaker 1 (02:36:46):
How is Jalen's eyes He had it checked on this
morning at all. You gotta look at it.
Speaker 6 (02:36:51):
Last night he has a scratch above the eye, you know,
and then the scratch rasion on the eyeball. So thinking
he'll be okay, some minor scratch, but yeah, we scratched
in two places on that one play. And you know,
those are some of the things that I took objection with,
which is if you want to look at the monitor
on every other you know, soft touch or soft out,
(02:37:13):
but you don't look at the ones when guys get
hit in the face like I'll be did the other
night and then Jalen that night, and so consistency there
is what I'm talking about. And if you're not gonna
call anything great that benefits us. But if you're going
to look at everything, look at the obvious ones.
Speaker 1 (02:37:24):
Like that, Well, if you want me to start a
go funding account, I'll be happy to do that.
Speaker 4 (02:37:28):
You know, I got your back, You know this right,
I'm okay.
Speaker 6 (02:37:31):
My coaches are all offering to chip into whatever are
They're really good.
Speaker 2 (02:37:35):
They're on one more making more money than I am,
So that's good for them the road to help out.
Speaker 1 (02:37:39):
I thought about the game, you got hurt late in
the contest. Fox is going to do his thing, SA
Bonus is going to do his thing.
Speaker 2 (02:37:47):
I thought the Keegan Murray sideline three baseline threes really
came at a terrible time for your squad.
Speaker 1 (02:37:54):
Yeah, we were.
Speaker 7 (02:37:56):
Getting out of rotation a little bit and he got
loose a little.
Speaker 6 (02:38:00):
But there he'd been struggling shooting, and so we obviously
wanted to keep him down and keep him you know,
and added in a struggling mode like he had been
him and heard her, And they came.
Speaker 7 (02:38:08):
Out and made some shots.
Speaker 6 (02:38:09):
As you know, they were shooting around twenty percent percent
on the ear when they're typically thirty seven percent shooter.
So we didn't want to let them go going those
hurt us. I think we really hurt us even more
was Dero's and post ups. You know, he had three
points a halftime and then I think twelve to fifteen
in that third quarter basically off of one play or
we got the early bonus foul trouble put him.
Speaker 7 (02:38:28):
At the free doom line.
Speaker 6 (02:38:29):
He made some shots in the post, and so the
combination of those things obviously heard us in the third quarter.
Speaker 1 (02:38:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:38:35):
As far as tomorrow night, Golden States had a long
winning streak against you guys, I know, it means a
lot to snap through those things. They lost last night
and in somewhat controversial fashion themselves to Denver. What's it
like facing a team I mean, it's a barometer test.
Now all you're gonna get him once, but you're gonnaive
him twice in the next six days.
Speaker 6 (02:38:53):
Yeah, it's another thing we'd like to measure ourselves against.
You know, we talked about it before the Minnesota game
and okay, see game and those things that the teams
that are you know, traditionally ranked higher or.
Speaker 7 (02:39:04):
Have we've struggled with.
Speaker 6 (02:39:06):
You know, we obviously we're down thirty against them early
in the year and came back and got it to overtime.
And so good test for us obviously coming up a loss.
We have a lost too in a row this year,
so we want to self correct and adjust and and
come back and get a win there. But you know,
to your point, we play them again in a few
days to go to Las Vegas and season tournament, So
great test for us. They're struggling, they've lost I think
(02:39:26):
four or five in a row, and we know it
would be a good test, and they come out desperate
as well.
Speaker 2 (02:39:31):
What does it say about your team that you've not
had to worry about long losing streaks, because even the
championship level teams go through some skids, and so far,
again we're still very early in the season, you've not
been able to have to worry about, you know, a
streak that goes beyond say three games.
Speaker 7 (02:39:46):
Yeah, that was a big point of emphasis going into
the season.
Speaker 6 (02:39:49):
You know, I talked about consistency this year, and I
think you know, we put up the winning and losing streaks.
Last year there were too many three game losing streaks,
won five game losing streaking there coupled by a six
game winning streak, eleven game winning streak, and so with us,
we said, if we lose one, that's justin and you know,
make make some changes that will help us in the
next game, and not you know, make the same mistakes.
(02:40:09):
And so so far we've done that, having lost to
in a row and come back with a nice amount
of aggression after a loss, and so look to do
the same thing tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (02:40:18):
Have you been around a team as a player or
as a coach that has had so many different guys?
And I don't know if you look, everybody wants consistency.
But part of the charm of this year's basketball team,
I think he may has been that if it's Fred
struggles one night, Dylan comes through, if Tire's hitting shots,
Alpi's not or and vice versa. That you've had different
(02:40:39):
guys kind of step up. Is that sustainable for eighty
two games?
Speaker 1 (02:40:43):
Do you like that variety? And do the guys?
Speaker 2 (02:40:46):
I know they pick each other up, but I'm sure
there are some nights that you're hugging Tari saying that
great job, and then some knights where he'll miss five
or six laps and he's now down in the dumps
little bit. So what's it like having a team that
moves up and down when it comes to who's hot
and who's not right now.
Speaker 6 (02:41:02):
I think it makes you tougher to defend. But you know,
consistency is the main thing we're looking for. We like
the balance for sure. I think it makes you that
much more of a hard team to prepare for. And
you know, you got six or seven guys close to
double figures. You know you're kind of getting hitting everybody
from different angles on different nights.
Speaker 7 (02:41:19):
But consistency is the main thing.
Speaker 6 (02:41:21):
So the ups and downs with some guys are happening,
we'd obviously like to erase those and have those guys
on a consistent basis. And if we do that, I
mentioned the Chicago game and some other games where everybody's
hitting on all cylinders and you see the result in
that game, obviously regarding to a high level, but also
scoring at a high level, and it makes us even
more dangerous.
Speaker 7 (02:41:37):
So as much as the balance.
Speaker 6 (02:41:38):
We like, we obviously want to have the main guys
be the main guys on a consistent basis.
Speaker 2 (02:41:42):
Far let your run was the Oklahoma City win the
high water mark for you as a coach as a
rocket through a year plus that the great vibe in
the arena on Sunday night.
Speaker 7 (02:41:53):
I mean there's been quite a few, honestly.
Speaker 6 (02:41:55):
You know, you look at last year with the streak
that we went on late, you know, some some big
wins against for last year, Sacramento and some of these
playoff teams that were you know, highly rated the year before.
So we've had quite a few. Okay see, it was
a good one. Minnesota was a good one as well.
But you know, they all count as one, and we're
confident group.
Speaker 7 (02:42:12):
That we can compete and beat anybody on any given night.
Speaker 6 (02:42:15):
So it was a great environment in there, no doubt,
right after the holidays, the two top teams in the
West and all those things that they looked at. But
for us, it was really to avenge what the loss
we had up at okay see, and then play it
much better game. And I think we did that obviously
and pulled out a tough heartfallt win.
Speaker 1 (02:42:30):
Coach. Thank you for the time.
Speaker 2 (02:42:31):
I appreciate you jumping in before you guys get some
work in at the arena. And again, if the NBA
is mad at you and they punish you, just take
your coaches pretty and they don't ever spend it anyway,
so just take it their money.
