Speaker 1 (00:02):
Lunchtimers. This is the Matt Thomas Show.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Ten oh two in h Town. Good morning, and welcome
to a Tuesday edition of The Matt Thomas Show with Ross,
the Man of My Ride. I've not seen I've been
there part of a month. It's nice to see you.
Speaker 3 (00:18):
Sports RV. How the hell are you?
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Yeah, when we did shows together, you weren't even here.
Speaker 3 (00:22):
I forgot I was in California.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
And then you'll very sweepy and so you had to
get some rest the last couple of shows. And now
you're back. Look at you fresh? Ready to go get
a fresh shave in Yeah, yep. Got a TV game
that I had to make sure you get a shave
for that. Okay, Oh yeah, yeah, we gotta put you
on TV. Got a big game tonight between the University
of Houston and a school from Alabama. Okay, which we're
all going to against Alabama teams. Uh oh really yeah?
(00:45):
Lost to Alabama and Auburn. So Alabama owns Houston, is
what you're saying in some respects. Okay, it's just the
revenge game against another school from Alabama. It's Troy, Okay,
you know, the mascot of the Trojin it's correct. Did
you did you know that? By okay?
Speaker 4 (01:02):
Good?
Speaker 2 (01:03):
That was seventy eight percent? Sure, Yeah, you did good,
You did good. It's nice to have all of you
with us here. Good for us to be to again.
We're gonna be mixing in and out here. You've got
a fortieth birthday coming up or the not too dis
in future. True, I've got some days off coming up
next week, so we're just trying to just use the
remaining vacation days left that we were recorded to us.
Is that right? See you in January, Matt. I think
it's what you're getting at that seems rude. But we're
(01:26):
going to be here. We got a couple other surprises
over the next few weeks. Looking forward to you too. Yeah,
I mean okay, when their news does, we'll be happy
to pass the blog to you. But today it's you
would be yes, and we are here till two o'clock
this afternoon, where I have a lot to get off
of my chest when it comes to sports. Okay, you
you wanted to clip something, right, say anything? I didn't
(01:46):
do anything. Well, I've decided anytime I take a Friday
off from now on, I'm going to have to call
in did you do? Did you make the strippers up?
On Friday morning? I did? And how to go? It
was okay, do we have we have the audio? Oh
my god, I'd rather not not anry about it. I
don't think we do. I think Dan Matthews did a
better job than I did. Up. Yeah. Well, he was
out getting food and then was talking with food in
(02:07):
his mouth for like a couple of segments, which is
very annoying. I called him out on air about it.
But so I asked him to fill in for one
of the days you're gone in the next few weeks,
and I must have caught him at a bad time.
He's like, Matt, I'm overworked, I'm stuck in traffic and
I don't know that. And he's like, just give me his
life story. And then he's like he responds back, the dude,
I was just in a bad spot. Be happy to
fill in this one day and all those goods. So,
(02:30):
I mean, we've been working all it's been Dan Talk
seven ninety the last week. It feels like it has
been all right. We are with you till two o'clock today,
we're coming up at eleven thirty. We have gut feelings
at noon. We've got the news at noon. Wonderful.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
We have a Ross's NFL Rewind we do at twelve
thirty today.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
Wait, I love doing the segment. I'm ready. There's a
lot of stuff this week. Yeah, there really is. And
it's like my whole life is on Rewind. And I
mentioned this to you before. When you go to cities
like Indianapolis or Detroit, or for that matter, of Chicago
or Portland, I mean these are just regular metropolitan cities
where these NBA teams we go to Los Angeles and
(03:08):
we stay in Beverly Hills and it's like we're in
a make believe world. Yes, why because there are sixty
year olds with puffed out lips and seven face lifts.
First of all, two hour time change doing the show,
and we were I was in San Francisco and Sacramento
with you. Eight o'clock in the morning is a little early,
but you're off at noon. Come on, Matt, that's true.
Got a good nap and walk in a nap in brunch. Yes,
(03:31):
But it's not about necessarily the time change for the show.
It's about the time changes in general. Ball games are
on earlier, like the college football Saturday with all the
championship games started at nine o'clock in the morning. Your
Kadian rhythms are off. Your your beloved Texas Longhorns plut
at one o'clock Pacific time game against Georgia for the
SEC Championship. We don't talk about it, okay if you
(03:52):
don't want to. But then just being in Beverly Hills
where nothing, as you mentioned, puffed out lips, everything's at
that thirty two dollars pancakes, everything's expensive. My wife met
Kim met me out there for a few days. We
went shopping along Rodeo Drive and she went shopping. Well,
I went on talking her out of getting stuff. Is
(04:12):
what happened.
Speaker 3 (04:13):
I was more like her home monitor, that is what
I hold.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
Honey. We got to wrap this up. Did you start
giving her two minutes? Two minutes? Well, I said, don't
you think we could buy the exact same stuff at
forty percent less than in the state of Texas and
perhaps in Houston. And She's like, yeah, but I mean
we're in Beverly. He know, it's the opposite. In Asia,
everything's like forty percent cheaper. Yeah, Okay. So I was
with some people and they were trying to buy everything.
That was the couple, the husband and the wife, the
(04:40):
bride and the groom, and he was like, all right,
we got to get moving. So she was putting her
bag together yesterday as we were leaving, and her weight, well,
the bag was way over of course, so she's like,
can you take some now. I don't have to worry
about that on my playing because I flew with the
rockets and she flew commercially. So we were like having
the jam stuff in from one suitcase the others who
were trying to Leave's extra fee, Matt, you can for it.
(05:01):
So this is I don't want to give airlines any
more money than we have. It's and by the way, you're, well, shit,
I do. She doesn't. Oh, okay, Intercontinental again is the Antichrist
of an airport. I'll take your word for it. I mean,
if I could fly out a hobby more often, I would,
but Inner Continentals are significant and closer to our house.
(05:21):
But it's just the traffic is still bad. Construction is
so horrifically bad, and it's only been going on for
like eight years. I mean, I don't know who was
in charge of the engineering project at IH And if
you work for them.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
I'm sorry, but I feel like you've screwed it up.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
I feel like you've made I'm waiting for the completed
product here. It's it's like when you go to in
your kitchen. You're throwing all these ingredients in and you're
looking at it and you're like, is this gonna bake well?
And then you put it in the oven. You're like, man,
are you sure this is all? All these ingredients also
be meshed together and it come out delicious? Orre you like,
oh I wasted my time. I feel like Intercontinental is
(05:55):
going to be that way. Good to see you're still
mister analogy. Oh it's a terrible analogy. But I mean
there's got to be an My point is just got
to be an end game. Are they on schedule? That's
what I don't even know what the schedule is. It
seems like they're off schedule. I just feel like, well
behind every single time there's hey, look what's coming ahead?
Speaker 3 (06:12):
An Intercontinental? Okay, so you add an extra shakeshack? Congratulations?
Speaker 2 (06:16):
How about can traffic? How about traffic flaw around the airport?
Is is center point heading this project? At IH? So?
That's I So I arrived at hobby, drove the Intercontinental,
waited in the cell phone report to airport, well because
I had to go pick her up, wait in the
cell phone lot. She's ready, and then that's what I
just got called the snarl. She's just terrible. I'm sorry, man,
(06:38):
I'm sorry. It is a lot of people that pick
get her a bike, can get her a bike out?
You want me to my wife to bike home a
fifty pounds suitcase in the back of her back. Okay,
put on your back because even getting ubers are paying
the ass because they can't give you very quick. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (06:51):
So all right, lots of get to.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
We can go. We've got NFL conversation to get to
the Texans getting ready for this week's game against Miami, who,
by the way, pulling on of their ass on Sunday.
Do you see the end of that Jets game of
the Miami Dolphins. I mean, yes, I did keep winning
battle rat. Are you a little nervous about Miami coming
to town before little Tyreek Hille? Come on, Dolphins, come
get some of this Nico Collins action. Baby Fresher week
(07:15):
off of I'm not worried about Nico Collins. I'm worried
about the text and secondary.
Speaker 3 (07:19):
Uh, this is gonna be fine. Who's a tight end
for the Dolphins?
Speaker 2 (07:22):
Chance? John? Hu Smith? John? Who Smith? Didn't you didn't
catch anything during the game. I know you had like
three huge catches in overtime, right, I know cost me
a fantasy game. I don't want to talk about it. Oh,
by the way, it was this is my last week
of fantasy ever. Come on, it's kind of, it's kind of.
It feels good. I've scored more than one hundred points
in both weeks of the last two weeks and still lost.
I scored one hundred and thirty and lost. I don't
(07:43):
want to hear you whining. You don't whinning.
Speaker 3 (07:45):
This is the last week I'll be whined fre either
for the rest of my life.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
Matt. We need you in the league. It's not happening.
You and Klann are the weakest players, and y'all are.
We can't have y'all both leave. The league's gonna get
tougher now. Well, First of all, insulting me beforehand doesn't
is not gonna help your cause. I'm sorry you and
Clann are the strongest player. Just ingenuous jerk, all right, Uh,
we got that to get to. We have last night's
game between the Bengals and the Cowboys, where leon Let
(08:11):
had to be on the field somewhere in that game, right, No,
he wasn't. It wasn't that egregious? Is it a clunky rule?
For those who didn't catch it. The Dallas Cowboys blocked
a punt of Cincinnati. Yes, and the ball advanced beyond
the line of scrimmage, which meant you could pick it
up and run if you wanted to. But if you
do touch it and you don't secure it, the ball
(08:33):
is free for anyone to grab it. It's like a punt.
You can you can muff it, correct, you can muff
a fake blocked punt. Yeah, deflected deflected punt. Now, is
that happy?
Speaker 3 (08:43):
Beyond the line of scrimmage? Is that one of the roles?
Speaker 2 (08:45):
I think behind the line of scrimmage you can do
whatever you want. Yeah, you can touch it and battle around,
throw around when it goes past the line of scrimmage,
just like it never got blocked. Correct, So the punt
went beyond the line of scrimmage, actually significantly behind it
in front of the line of scrimmage and of the deflection,
and a Dallas upman did not grab it since Andy
gets it back and then like forty seconds letter Joe
(09:06):
Burrow finds Jamar Chase. Ball game over and what did
Homer Simpson have to say about all of this? They
did the Simpsons you didn't know they did on ESPN
Plus and Disney Plus. They did the Homer Simpson Cast
with the Monday N Football as I'm gonna be very
happy to tell you that it was kind of hokey,
just putting how much did you watching? Like five minutes
(09:27):
and I'm one, I'm a huge Simpsons. So it was
a Manning cast all on too. It was basically like, yeah,
the Manning cast was on too. It was basically like
they they superimposed all the players. All the players running
were live, but then they would just put Homer Simpson
at quarterback and like Lisa Simpson would be at wide
receiver as Jamar Chase.
Speaker 3 (09:46):
So they took an overlay.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
They took a fresh cartoon that's hipped all the kids
today going by the way, watching thirty five years somewhere
around there, nobody's watched for the last twenty little non
trivia question if you know this, okay, It was a
spin off of a sketch of another show. You know, yes,
I know it was Tracy Almonds. Yeah, so Tracey Almans
have been on since Fanatic. I know that, okay, thirty
(10:08):
plus years ago. Yes, created by Matt Greening. That's how
you spell it, I pronounce yes, okay, seven one three
two five seven. I will get to that. And I
gotta tell you something, folks. And we have a large
baseball audience on this show. Are you getting the exact
same vibe are of the winter meetings that I am?
(10:28):
What vibe is that Matt will tell you after this,
after I tell you where you need to go. If
your energy has been low, if you're feeling like you're
slowing down, You're like, all right, you know what. I'm
gonna lose weight, I'm gonna get back in shape. I'm

not gonna keep putting it off and putting it off,

Speaker 1 (11:27):
This is the Matt Thomas Show.
Speaker 2 (11:32):
All right, we are here to give you the truth. Well,
I do lie and I don't have a problem with it.
But in this particular case, I need to feel like
I need to tell the truth because people come to
this for the show for the truth. For the most part,
I did, I do lie, and I don't have a
problem with it. I mean, Matt Thomas, We'll put that.
That's a gravestone quality quote there. Let me see, Connor,
(11:54):
can I Can I give you some advice in your
young life? Yes, telling the truth every single day will
have actually costs you something. It'll either be a friendship,
a relationship, a job, a sales deal. You don't think that.
You don't think salespeople don't lie to their customers all
the time. That's baked into the job. That's different. Connor's
(12:15):
not in sales.
Speaker 5 (12:16):
Connor.
Speaker 2 (12:16):
I have some advice for you. The truth will set
you free. I think sometimes you got lie, thank you
very much. But if you always tell the truth, you
never have to remember the lie. Mhm. You never have
to keep your lie straight. If you always tell the truth.
We can put that in a coffee couple years. Yeah,
I'm thinking about it all right, real fast. One more
story about Beverly Hills than we're going to sports my wife.
So my wife comes with me on the trip, and
(12:37):
she meets me and we go to this really nice
high end suit not souvenir store, but just kind of
fancy sweaters, funny games videos, funny little tote bags that'll
say blank happens or my this is my you know,
just kind of like a souvenir shop, like it's a
souvenir would be it would be too. It's not as gifts, Okay,
(13:00):
it's a significantly higher high priced things, but really funny
things like my pool boys, my other lover, kind of
coffee cups say, oh, that's a funny given to somebody. Well,
you didn't get her that one. There's two rules. One,
you can't take any photos or videos in the place
because they don't want you still in their phrases. And
then going home and making a homemade t shirt with
that phrase on, Well, you can still do it if
(13:22):
you remember it. You could, that's exactly right. But secondly,
everything is very highly expensive. And we went to this
one area and my wife was going to buy my
daughter a sweatshirt and was Beverly Hills. She had the
Beverly Hills logo on it. It was ninety eight dollars
for a sweatshirt. Okay, And we're like, and she murmured me,
this is ridiculous. It's a regular sweatshirt. The owner of
(13:44):
the place, oh, heard her say that, and then came
in to discuss, well, this is California made, and this
is made with this, this, this, and this, and he
was kind of snooty towards us. Well, of course he
would be, but we weren't having a conversation with him,
So stop dropping a hole, okay. So we go to
so we go to other places in this gift shop, Yes,
(14:06):
and he's like sort of following us giving the playback
play in this place, and she and I walked.
Speaker 3 (14:11):
Out on this guy is one rude a hole.
Speaker 2 (14:14):
So she goes back to our hotel and looks up
the restaurant and looks up the place and the reviews.
Everybody is like that owner is an a hole. Yeah. Interesting.
So he apparently has a nasty reputation for just basically
insulting you while you're there. Well, you insulted his sweatshirts.
You know what, he took it price.
Speaker 3 (14:34):
I insulted making your guff.
Speaker 2 (14:35):
I insulted his at the price of his sweatshirts, and
apparently others did the exact same thing. Well, he told
you I was reasonably priced, Matt California made. I may
imagine all the taxes on that. Well, I think the
cell sax ten percent there. So it's pretty spricy, pretty pricey. Yeah,
all right, so let's do this. Dana Brown Connor was
on MLB Network and all the media is at the
(14:58):
winter meetings, which is strange because we're not really hit
winter yet, right, I mean, I know we're December, but
it's I'm sorry, we haven't hit the winter solstice yet.
But it's technically winter.
Speaker 6 (15:06):
Matt.
Speaker 2 (15:06):
We're in the middle of December, and we got some comments.
I'm gonna assuming the first thing we want to hear
about is Bregman. Is that okay with you on that one?
Here is Dana Brown on the Bregman conversation.
Speaker 7 (15:17):
Yeah, a combination of, you know, all of the above.
Speaker 8 (15:21):
I had mentioned in the past that you know, we
we won't take anything off the table in terms of
improving this club, and if we get the opportunity to,
you know, trade, if we feel like this is a
good fit, we'll make that trade. You know, whatever the
opportunity is, we'll definitely do it if it means improving
the club.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
It was in generalities, as Matt Thomas would say, doesn't
warm the cockles of your heart? Does it?
Speaker 9 (15:48):
Not?
Speaker 2 (15:48):
Exactly? And then something that was talked about was perhaps
conversations about other players right the.
Speaker 3 (15:59):
Trades, involving a frommer An Tucker.
Speaker 7 (16:03):
Pretty willing to listen on Kyle Tucker and from Pravel
does Yeah.
Speaker 8 (16:06):
I mean I think everybody you you would listen on
all the players. I don't think that you know, you
would you know, turn a deaf deaf air to any
of these guys. I think the big thing is if
you have an opportunity to make the club better that
you would you would at least listen to other clubs
and see if there's something that makes sense for the club.
Speaker 7 (16:25):
Uh in the present and also long term.
Speaker 3 (16:36):
They're not re signing Kyle Tucker.
Speaker 2 (16:39):
No, I mean, if you want to give point one
to Bregman, stay, is there such a thing as less
than point one? I guess yeah, point zero zero zero
gone with a bunch of zeros in that and one
at the end. It's kind I mean, it would feel
like it'd be a little bit of artificial uh percent
chance if Kyle Tucker has given them the signs of Bruh,
(17:04):
I'm not coming back here.
Speaker 3 (17:05):
And oh, by the way, I love what Won Soto got.
Speaker 2 (17:08):
I'm not gonna get that kind of money, but I'm
going to get really good money because I can actually
play the position better in the outfield than he can.
I'm not as powerful and big hitter as he is,
but I'm pretty close. Don't cut my postseason. But that's
not here nor there. He needs to trade him. I
don't think the Astros want to put long term money
into farm. Bervaldez either. I think when he's really good,
(17:33):
he is a ace on every single roster in this major
League baseball team that we call professional baseball. But when
he gets frazzled, it's an It's like a bad egg
that cracks really quick. He did a really good job
stabilizing himself towards the eight days, and then he had
a bad playoff start. He did so all that doesn't
(17:54):
necessarily want to put in twenty five million dollars a
year for guy that with as we just described, I'm
gonna tell you something right now, Astro fans, and you're
gonna be mad at me for saying this, and I
hope you're not mad at me. But once Bregman decides
to go playing some to play somewhere else, which I
believe he's going to, they absolutely need to trade Kyle Tucker.
They absolutely need to trade from ber Valdez, and the
(18:17):
Houston Astros must take a step back in order to
make eventually two steps forward. Were you listening to the
show yesterday, There's no chance you're making me upset.
Speaker 3 (18:29):
I know you get upset when you and I agree,
which makes.
Speaker 2 (18:31):
Me upset because I was arguing with Gordy about this
yesterday and I talked about how I mean I was.
I came to the same conclusion you did. If Bregman
is gone, you're not contending next year. Maybe you're winning
eighty five ninety games and getting into the playoffs and
winning the division. Maybe if the Mariners continue to be
a disaster that they have been and the Rangers can't
(18:53):
bounce back at all, But you're not gonna be a contender.
And then it's gonna be where you're gonna be left
with a couple of draft picks in free agency if
you make qualifying offers to Fromber and then Kyle Tucker,
and then where's this team going trading for prospects. I'm
with you, I'm not happy about it. Lose for the
next couple of years. Have some of these draft picks
come up and be good. Hopefully one or two or
(19:14):
three of the prospects you get back in those deals
bear fruit, and then you can be back contending in
a couple of years. Because I don't see how it's
getting better in the immediate term. And I will take
this one step forward. Not only do you have to
trade these two guys if Pregnant doesn't come back, you
got to do it before spring training. I don't want
to wait till the July thirty first deadline or thereabouts
(19:35):
to make this deal, because you're gonna get forty cents
the dollar. Because any team that goes and gets Kyle
Tucker Ando fromber Valdez will not be giving you those
high end prospects. You need to spread the word and
you can certainly do it at the winter meetings that
you've got a chance to bring a thirty to thirty
guy to your baseball team. You have a chance to
bring a staff ace or a number two to your
team right away. Let's talk. Let's not leave town without
(20:00):
a deal being done. I think the longer they wait,
the more painful it will be for the goodbyes, and
more importantly, the lesser on the return you will get.
They need to make this these moves by the Astros
before they hit spring training so that team whoever grabs
them gets a full year of those two guys and
(20:22):
you get better prospects in return, or perhaps even active
players for that matter. This is not This is absolutely
not what I want to discuss. I'm with it, and
I'm still gonna tell you this. I think Jim mccrane's
philosophy about ownership doesn't necessarily make it what he has
(20:46):
said before not true today within reason, the window will
always be open as long as I'm owner. The window
is always open. But there's a difference in a window
size small window.
Speaker 1 (21:00):
No, I wouldn't say.
Speaker 2 (21:01):
I wouldn't say. I wouldn't say a small window at
a momenta in Hmm. Okay, I forgot, But I wouldn't
say it's the size of a penthouse sweet at a
high end hotel, the roast roque. Okay, does that make sense? Yes,
window size matters, okay. And the window is always going
(21:23):
to be open, but it's not on all sides of
the bedroom wall.
Speaker 4 (21:28):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (21:29):
We'll discuss more in a minute. Seven one three, two,
one two five seven ninety. So I'm telling you, Houston, Texas,
and please don't be mad at me. This is the
sports take. It's something I'm nothing personal towards you. When
Bregman decides to go play somewhere else, this should further
expedite Kyle Tucker and from Bervelde is being traded. And
I'm not anti either one of those guys. I want
(21:49):
all three 'em to stay. But if it's an if
then statement. If Bregman leaves, you're not as good as
you were last year. If Kyle Tucker leaves next year
and farm Barvelvez leaves next year with you only getting
draft picks for it, you are significantly taking a massive
step back in your development development, meaning getting minor league
(22:10):
players that ultimately will be major league players in two
years to replace the guys. I just brought up seven
one three two one two five seven ninety seven to
one three two one two five seven nine zero on Twitter.

All right, So this windows size I mentioned again, I
don't think Jim and by evidence of what he has
led this organization through the last seven or eight years,
(23:39):
is not miser league. And I think it's unfair for
people to think that he's a chief skater, doesn't doesn't
want to spend money he has spent. He spent a
lot of money on just Josh Hater last year. He
tried to get things better with jose O. Bring You.
Speaker 3 (23:51):
I mean he has gone after guys and lengthen contracts.
You are on Alvarez.
Speaker 2 (23:56):
He's lengthened contracts on Alex Spraggman before his arbitration was over.
He's like than contracts on hoseel To by two different
times this isn't a guy that would be known as
a guy with a reputation of not spending money. Verlanders
been on the payroll multiple times. Yeah, I mean yeah,
with the Mets taking some of that, but right but
carrying it. So that's not what we're here for. But
(24:19):
we have to be we have to deal with realities
of there's only he has a threshold. The New York
Mets ROSSI do not have a threshold. The Los Angeles
Dodgers do not have a threshold. He cannot spend as
much as the dah the Dodgers, Yankees, Mets, Red Sox,
those types of teams. Yeah, so there is a budget.
Whatever that number is can be certainly changed, but there
(24:42):
is still a budget. And I mean there when the
moment Kyle Tucker lost his arbitration case, the moment you
took Kyle Tucker to arbitration over, I think it was
a pretty poultry amount of money. Players don't forget about
that kind of stuff. They just don't. And as I've
(25:03):
said five thousand times, you've had an entire year to
get a deal in front of Alex Bregman.
Speaker 3 (25:10):
Alex knew what is worth was a year ago.
Speaker 2 (25:13):
He you know, now, if he would have had a
forty home run one hundred and fifteen RBI season, that
number would have gone up astronomically. But I think he's
his number today than what he was. What he's looking
for now hasn't really changed from a year ago. Just
my guess that you're going over the sum of the parts,
you're not going after well. Alex Bregnant batted two thirty
five for six seasons, and one year he hits three nineteens.
(25:35):
All of a sudden, he's worth three times his mouth.
I think. I think the value of Bregman didn't really
change much from last year, even though last year's numbers
he even got to a off to a slower start
and father time got another year on him. Yes, and
there was a dip in the performance the plate a
little bit. Yep. I think his age, probably in length
(25:55):
of contract, might have taken a dip, but his per
year average probably did not. So they know, they know.
But yeah, I'm of the belief that this bad boy
ought to be not I mean, blown up is too
strong of a term, but it would certainly be. You'd
probably chip away at a big time, a soft reset button,
(26:17):
that is what I'm saying the Milana Braves to a
soft reset a couple of years ago. Basically, you win
seventy five to eighty games for a couple of years
because you're still gonna have yord On Hunter Brown is
still very good, Spencer Righetti as well. You try to
get some prospects as many as possible for those two players.
You batten down the hatches till hopefully, you know, Jacob Meltain,
Bryce Matthews, those guys can be ready and contribute, and
(26:41):
then hopefully a couple of other draft picks are ready
to go. Why you brought in Dan Brown to begin
with was the replenishing your systemically exactly. And you know,
you know you don't need twenty five impact players. You
need guys who are above replacement level and then two
or three impact guys because that's what you're losing when
it comes to Kyle Tucker in front, Ravaldez and now
Alex Bregman, so you can be back contending with this core.
(27:05):
And oh, by the way, haven't even mentioned Josel Twove
there were He's gonna be thirty four years old. And
if if you're losing Alex Bregman, I mean, where's he
gonna be when you're contending the next time anyways, So
I'm with you, We're on the same page. If you're
not gonna win now, if you're not going to unless
you're gonna try to squeeze this lemon for every last
(27:25):
drop it has, you keep Tucker and Fromber. But other
than that, I'm down with the basically a soft reset.
But you're for a couple of years, you're going to
be outbid for Tucker absolutely, and I think the offer
for Fromber will not be anything close to what he's
looking for.
Speaker 1 (27:43):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (27:43):
I mean I mentioned this last year. Now, Kyle Tucker
only played seventy eight I mean yesterday, I mentioned this
about last year with Kyle Tucker. Kyle Tucker had a
higher ops plus than one soda last year. Now he
only played seventy eight games, right, but he was he
was on an MVP track until he cracked his leg
so to play one hundred and fifty seven games. And
Wan Soto ain't no gold Glover in right field, No, No,
Kyle Tucker is a significantly better outfielder. Now, now, can
(28:05):
Kyle Tucker keep that up? If we go with career averages,
it's Soto. I think it's one hundred and sixty ops
plus two one hundred and thirty nine as far as
Soto versus Tucker. But Tucker had a higher ops plus
than one Soto last year and he plays gold glove
right field. He's not going to get seven hundred and
sixty million or whatever, but he's going to get to somewhere.
The astros are and Jim Crane are not going to
(28:27):
be comfortable matching whatever deal he gets.
Speaker 3 (28:29):
Soto is what younger than Tucker?
Speaker 2 (28:30):
Yes, twenty six and probably I mean would be fair
to say a more successful postseason career. I would. I
would say so, Yes, Kyle Tucker has he's had a
good I think it was twenty one or twenty two.
He had a good post here, two straight postseasons where
he kind of goes yeah, but last year it was
literally two gigs, right, that's true. That's true. But the
upside is on Tuck. So I first of all, and
(28:52):
we've not talked about this really, Soto's numbers are just yes,
that is going to I wouldn't. I don't know if
cripple is too strong of a term, but it's going
to severely hamper the long term success the Mets. No,
there can't be anybody in New York, whether you're a
Yankee hater or a Met fan, that thinks, oh, this
is a great value deal they're going to I remember
(29:15):
when Albert Poolhole signed his ridiculously long deal with the Angels,
thinking they're going to regret this and it's going to
take years off the Angel's run. And we were all
right about that. I think it was thirty or thirty
one when he signed that deal, and we knew when
he was forty he wasn't going to be worth it.
And everybody knows when SODA's forty, he's not gonna be
worth it. Not only I mean the money, the deferred money,
(29:38):
the chance to add more to it. Yeah, there's no
different money with this contract. But they do have the
opt out of after five years. You're still paying ungully
amount of money for the guys three quarters of a
billion dollars to play baseball. It's pretty sweet. Mothers. Don't
let your babies grow up to be football players. Put
(29:58):
them in baseball. Yeah, and if they go on the
injured list a couple times a year, no big whoop,
Just show up in October. Yeah, what do you call
it guaranteed contract. Was it like basically the Mets and
the Yankees were at a silent auction, you know, then
bring the paddles up, and they just kept trying to
outdo each other. Is that what it became? A pissing
match between the two French franchises. They both probably got
(30:20):
gas lit into a pissing match by Scott Boris, the
greatest to ever do it. Scott Boris Is rebounded last year,
not a great offseason. This year, pretty good one. He's
doing okay, he's about to do that. I think he's
gonna take care of Bregmant. I still think it's going
to be less than seven years. I think our number
for our lunch is six. I think it's going to
be seven, but we'll see. We have a bet. We
(30:41):
do a bet. You're out with five because your number
is under six. Your best hope is a push I'm
hoping for because if I got a push, it's a
win for me. Well, no push is a push. Push
means I'm gonna do what I normally do, go get
my own food. It'll that'd be that much of a
different change in my life. Seven one three two, one
two five seven ninety seven one three two one two
(31:03):
five seven nighty. So are you getting any any different
of a vibe that I am about what you're kind
of hearing out of the Winter meetings? If I mean,
Dana Brown is saying the right things. We're doing everything,
we're prioritizing, but in reality they're not doing everything. If
the number of six one fifty six is the dollar
amount which had been reported, I think about Bob Knight
and Gale a couple of weeks ago, Yes, And I
(31:24):
think mctagger jumped on on that a little bit last week, Yes,
confirmed it, and Bregman wants two hundred. I mean that's
quite a bit of a distance. I can't imagine Bregman going, well,
if you get to one seventy five, we got a deal.
Unless nobody else is willing to get you to one
seventy five. I think somebody else will be. I'm thinking
(31:47):
we mentioned this yesterday, the Yankees and Red Sox apparently
both in on bregmant. I'm thinking the Yankees losing a
bidding war to the Mets. They do not want to
lose a bidding war to the Red Sox. Right after
hal Steibrenner. All right, so we saw our Nick Deturrell
on Twitter yesterday. Did you guys play it the A
Team did? We did not play it here. I believe
we'll come back with it. We have the we have
(32:07):
the PG rated version well, which includes significant bleeps, a
lot of bleeps the way connormc government putting in a
full eight hour day yesterday. Oh man, eight hours. Poor
kid must be tired. So what you produced?
Speaker 3 (32:18):
Both shows? Which one of you do you enjoy more?
Speaker 2 (32:19):
Connor?
Speaker 3 (32:20):
Do you just tell the truth yesterday?
Speaker 2 (32:23):
Probably probably the A Team? Oh oh man, that's tough.
That's just because Ross on his own was like, yeah, yeah,
I get it. Do you guys do tell the truth? Yesterday?
We did and Connor got it wrong?
Speaker 3 (32:35):
Can I can I guess what it is? Can I
guess what it is? When we come back?
Speaker 2 (32:38):
Do you have me it takes from yesterday and real quick,
or you'll do it come back and we come back.
We'll do a mini to tell the truth. I don't
want to go through the whole three actrics of selling everyone,
so I'm gonna just to say them all monotone, all right,
some menziella one of them? You believe that, right, okay? Seven? One, three,
two one two five seven ninety seven one three two
one two five seven If you want to get in
Monday night football from last night was interesting college football playoffs.
(33:01):
I don't know you guys much got into that yesterday.
I know with Gordy you did because he had to
raise his voice at some point during the show. Seven
one three two one two five seven nine zero word
now for Uptown Appliance Repair, I know that you do
not want to spend crazy money on getting your refrigerator
worked one, or your ice maker or a wine seller,
or any of your barbecue grills outside, or perhaps I'll
(33:22):
wash your dryer. Something in terms of your home that's
not working on the fritz, but you don't want to
buy a new one. That's when you call two eight
one seven five eight nine nine seven eight. That's two
eight one seven five eight nine nine seven eight. For
the great folks at Uptown Appliance Repair, established family owned

to get everything in your house fixed right with thousands
(33:43):

Speaker 10 (33:56):
Com lunchtimers, lunchtimes.
Speaker 11 (34:00):
This is the Matt Thomas show, all right, say.
Speaker 2 (34:23):
It dead, Pam saying I'm going to take hand these
I will do them all four in a row. Number one.
My opinion, Jim Crane will change his stance with the Times.
The Sodo deal proves he cannot do this anymore. Within
the next five years. He will sign a deal over
six years in length. Okay number two. The Chiefs voodoo
(34:44):
magic will end. This cannot stand this long. They will
not win the Super Bowl or the AFC. They are
not a good enough team to be a top contender.
Okay number three. With the Soto signing and the New
York and LA teams outspending everyone one else in Major
League Baseball, heavier luxury tax penalties are imminent in Major
(35:05):
League Baseball, and the deferment loopholes will be closed. Okay
number four. There will be a major change in the
college football playoff within the next two years, either reseeding,
no automatic top four or otherwise, or perhaps an expansion
of the field. Major change coming in two years. Number
four coming in two years. Number four is correct. Yeah,
(35:25):
it's easy to do. Number one. Number one, you can
throw it right out because of what we've been talking about. Yeah, yeah,
number four. Okay, Mike thought on that we can close
the music off because I love that song.
Speaker 3 (35:33):
But if she only played on Mondays, thank you very much, Connor.
Speaker 2 (35:38):
I don't mind the four conference champions getting it and
the highest conference non power for getting it, but to
be guaranteed a top four spot is ridiculous, and the
Boise State Broncos with a three seed is absurd. It's
there's no other way to put it. Yeah, unless they
had played three top fifteen non conference of all. Right,
(36:00):
like if now boys, Y State did play at Oregon,
and to your point, they we mentioned a couple of
times over the course of the month. They've only lost
by a touchdown to them, Right, it was a close game,
so give them props. Play Nicky, who you went on
record saying is not going to have any sort of
NFL career. I'm staying with that. Oh I love it. Yeah,
I love this a lot. Good. I'm glad you do.
I think he might be a first round pick, Matty,
(36:21):
So that's I'm saying. But I mean, I think five
years frow, I will be like Ashton Genty, Is that
a new fragrance? It does sound. It doesn't sound good.
Speaker 3 (36:28):
It sounds what do you wear today, Ashton Genty?
Speaker 2 (36:30):
Okay, all right, you heard me. Don't write that one
down too. I'm not puting my name on it, but
just a pretty good gun feeling on that one. Yeah,
to guarantee. I mean, it could have been Arizona State.
It could have been Clemson for that matter. M hmm.
Speaker 3 (36:46):
Actually it was Arizona State.
Speaker 2 (36:47):
They didn't move up. Yeah, they moved up Arizona State,
moving from sixteen or seventeen to four, literally out of
the playoff to the fourth spot. By way, I'm okay
with him getting in. I don't just agree. Yeah, but
they should have been a twelve seed. Vaulting them all
the way to four is absurd. My guesses should have
been Boise ten, them eleven, SMU twelve. And I think
(37:11):
they need to reced because it ended up with Oregon
has the toughest road. They're the number one seed. They
need to receed these. You know, some sports reseed and
some don't. Why do you think they do that? I
don't know why. Because a the NBA, of one plays
an eight and four plays five of the first round.
If eight beats one and four beats five, it's it's
four versus eight. Now, obviously in college basketball, these teams
(37:33):
are regionals in the same city, so they're not gonna,
you know, move them cities across the country. That makes sense,
that's right. But in for for football, I don't know
why they wouldn't receed it.
Speaker 3 (37:43):
It happens every year in the NFLFL research.
Speaker 2 (37:46):
If you reward the regular season, you reward your number
one seed. And right now, Oregon, if you look at
the bracket, they have the toughest seed, the toughest uh path.
Speaker 3 (37:57):
To a championship than anyone.
Speaker 6 (38:00):
See.
Speaker 2 (38:00):
The issue would be if you are pro bracket, you're saying,
do not reced the bracket falls the way it falls,
just like in the NCAA basketball tournament. Yeah, does anybody
pro bracket? I think they should reseed it. I think
it's a really good idea. I saw at first, I
saw the hat it was Joel Klatt. It doesn't there's
really from the logistics, well formully until I price themselfs.
(38:22):
But yeah, I would say that it's easy when it's
only talking about twelve teams. Yeah, and you're not and
you're keeping and nothing's been predetermined. That's what the That's
what the NFL playoffs used to be. Twelve teams, six
and six. Let's reced let's go. So if there's an upset,
if I don't know if well, I wonder if you
would even do it after the home Yeah. If Clemson loses,
(38:44):
then an Oregon should as I'm sorry. If wins it
beats Texas as a one seed, Oregon should get the
weakest seed. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (38:50):
Yeah, I think I think you are right.
Speaker 2 (38:51):
I think we are due for a Now, the question
is who's gonna be the one that's gonna put it
out there? Are is Arizona State gonna be the one
leading the pack on that? No?
Speaker 3 (39:00):
No, is it good?
Speaker 2 (39:01):
Who'll be the one that will be leading up the
Who's who's the most mad? They're not hosting a first
run game as in Texas? I mean they should have
won the SEC championship games. I still do like, you know.
The one past I do like is I do like
the fact that the Notre Dame can't be a top
four Notre Dame. You could run the table, you could
be amazing. You could kick ass all the way you
want to. But until you decide you want to be
like with the rest of us and join the family
of a conference, you shouldn't be able to have a
(39:24):
top four seed. I do like that component of it.
Mm hmm. You must be a conference champion in order
to guarantee your spot. So Notre Dame's like, wait a minute.
We you know we we had one bad off week
on our first week of the year against Northern ill O,
and we've beaten everybody else we played in front of
We played a very good competitive schedule. That sounds great.
Go get in the AEC going your championship call today. Yeah,
I'm with you. I think the reseating thing will happen.
(39:46):
I don't think the automatic ah. I just don't see why.
Why would the Big twelve and acc agree to that
or do you say they don't have a choice. I
don't know. They will kick you out of the playoff completely.
No gonna do that. Not gonna do that. But I
think you're right. I just don't know how. Who's who's
going to be the chairman of the boar of this
(40:06):
Let's change this around. I think the receding is a
very easy compromise. That's true. Seven one three two one
two five seven ninety If you want to jump in
and say hello, where's our audience out? They're just bumping around,
going hey, it's holidays. People are shopping, are busier out
of town.
Speaker 4 (40:19):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (40:19):
We're here. We're we're family friendly. We don't sit there

Lunchtimers, This is the Matt Thomas Show, eleven.
Speaker 2 (42:24):
Oh one on Sports Chalk seven ninety eight is hour
two of four Matt and Ross with you today until
two o'clock. Ross, I have the I don't think I've
gone on record with a destination for Alex Bregman. I
believe I have the destination in thirty minutes during ut Felix, which,
by the way, I think both of us have a
hit with the one so sign I do. I also
(42:47):
believe we have a miss on how the Rockets did
this week?
Speaker 3 (42:51):
You were out, I think, yeah good.
Speaker 2 (42:53):
I didn't miss anything. Connor. I think thought the Rocks
are gonna go own three. I remember that it was close.
Wasn't that close? I mean the Clippers were pretty I
didn't I was surprised to see Cordy mcgetty on the
court for the Clippers on Sunday. They were pretty short handed.
Bo Kimball was out there jacking up threes. Ryan Hollins
took a suit off. Get suited back up. Ryan Hollins say,
Clipper great exactly. Ryan and I are working together. By
(43:15):
the way, tonight on the U of H versus Troy game.
You are, yes, okay, we beautiful. We got Vanessa work
on the sidelines. So we've kicked a craig with the
curve for one game. I've heard you will be calling
from the habachi grill. Correct calling the game from the grill.
He does love habachi grills. I've never met somebody in
my life that lives for habachi like Ryan Holland's Aboci's delicious.
It is, But I'm about a once a month guy
(43:38):
with it. Maybe okay, he's like once a road trip.
I like it. He's like texting me at three o'clock
and when I'm training some sleepy batch you for lunch today,
I'm like what, He's ready to go. I love it.
It's good. I mean, you get your vegetables grilled meat.
He's that bad for seven feet tall. I don't know
what his weight is, but I would not see. He's
not portly under any circumstance. He's very he's physically fit.
(44:01):
He'd be a stretch for. As the kids would say
to in today's NBA world, I've never seen a grown
man eat so much in my entire life. Good for him.
Speaker 3 (44:10):
Case in point, the.
Speaker 2 (44:11):
New High we busted from Sacramento to San Francisco after
the game. I wanted to take a bus. It was
seventy five minutes. It's about eighty five miles better than flying.
Could you have to get through all this cure and
all that to getting on the plane for twelve minutes?
It would have been ridiculous. Yeah, So we'd all decided
on the way from Sacramento to San Francisco was to
stop at a bit about Okay, and I get my
(44:35):
double double animal style. I did not animal style the
fries because I was on a bus and that would
have been kind of messy.
Speaker 3 (44:41):
The burger itself was a mess.
Speaker 2 (44:42):
Okay, Ryan, and I'm not speaking on turn here, because
the man, again is physically fit, had three double doubles.
That is impressive. I'm actually jealous. Now. I could probably
eat two if I was really hungry, But he he
didn't sweat it. He got three with extra cheese, and
all three of them extra cheese. So those aren't double doubles.
(45:06):
Those are two by threes, two by fours. What do
you do? I don't well, I mean probably two by
two by four is a power move. You know, you
can get up to a four by four. They used
to have people would go in there and order like
a thirty by thirty just to set records, and then
they stepped. They're like, no, we're maxio enough of this. Yeah. Yeah,
So he he had had to be three to four
sliced the cheese winter why didn't he just do two
four by fours? I don't know. I don't know how.
(45:27):
I don't want the bun. Those buns are delicious, I
don't and the fresh vegetables. The burger superior to that
of Whaterburger. Sorry, butter Burger. We love you. You're Houston,
You're no national now, yes, but the burger superior, binbout
better everything else at what Burger? Fantastic fries, better chicken fingers,
onion rings, biscuits good, oh delicious, Oh to ketosh. The shakes,
(45:51):
I like the shakes. Shakes are a matter of good
two there or what now? The shakes had been about, Oh, Ben,
about those are good two? I thought you were having
It's true. I feel like when we arrhyme sometimes too
much we do so as I going with this, so yeah,
so he so at habachi. He gets double salad. That's smart.
(46:13):
See he's eating his vegetables, double soup. Yes, I get
his mushrooms, soich I'm very happy about. Oh he didn't
like much, doesn't like mushrooms, orders double rice, m extra
extra scallops or extra shrimp, depending on what he's eating,
and it gets two desserts. That that's balling. I'm jealous,
(46:35):
although it sounds like an expensive habit too though. I
mean his meal is probably almost double mind, but he
eats it. He works out. He's one of the sweetest
fellows you ever meet. That's great. And he's on the
call with you.
Speaker 3 (46:46):
He and I are working together.
Speaker 2 (46:47):
The University of Houston Cougar's basketball Troy, the Troy Trojans,
the plucky underdog. Do we have a line in the game.
I don't even know.
Speaker 3 (46:57):
I'm sure there's a line. Do we want to look here?
Speaker 2 (47:00):
I don't have any Troy fans listening, but uh no,
Troy fans, listen, you don't know that. There's not one
Troy fan out Ooh I just saw the hold on me. Okay,
oh ouch. Well, what's not as big of a line
as Duke versus Incarnate Word. Cougar's are twenty seven and
a half point favorites. Wow. If you took Troy in
(47:20):
the money line, you just said flat out Troy wins.
Speaker 3 (47:24):
You say, I'm I'm lighting money on fire.
Speaker 2 (47:27):
Eight plus eighteen hundred. Yeah, but what's the other way
minus thirty six hundred or something. They always juice it
to the gills. So again it's put in perspective of
those that don't gamble one hundred dollars. If you walk
to a window and say I'll take Troy for one
hundred dollars to win with no points, yeah, you'll get
eighteen hundred dollars. Back, of course it has to hit
(47:47):
You mentioned Duke. Duke's thirty five and a half point favorite,
and by the way, you cannot met you cannot bet
incarnate word on the money line. Yeah. The books don't
even want to touch it. Is what will be a
twenty five twenty six hundred to one, yeah, something They
don't want to hand that out on a single basket.
I don't think you're right. I think you're right all right.
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five SEVENI real quick shout
(48:09):
out to our friend Mattress Mac. He's having surgery today.
I hope he's doing well. He's been a friend of
mine for twenty eight twenty nine years, been very good
for our radio company, very good for our community, and
we wish him the very very best in his recovery.
Speaker 3 (48:23):
So hope thinking about your Mattress Mac and your family.
Speaker 2 (48:26):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven, And they we
go to Al Paso, Texas, and it will start our
calls in if you want to jump out of the conversation.
Seven one three two one two five seven nine zero.
We say hi to Dwayne on seven ainty Dwayne, good morning,
how are you hello.
Speaker 12 (48:45):
Doing doing doing really good today. I just wanted to
make a couple of comp I mean, I kind of
comments about the Astros and then the cheese the Astros.
I believe this is just me thinking that he's gonna
get signed. Brugmann's gonna get signed to Boston because Boston
is the only team that has something to give back
(49:07):
to Houston. They've got an excellent farm club, one of
the best in Major League Baseball, and I'm pretty sure
they can give him back or give Houston back something
that will enable the Astros to continue to stay in
the playoffs. But if they get rid of Fremburg and
then the reichfielder Tucker oh Man, that you know what,
(49:31):
I don't understand why this owner is not doing something
to help this team continue to stay in the playoffs,
because if they get rid of Fremburg and Tucker Man
and they're just admitting to to Houston a we don't
care about the Astros. You know, you guys are just
gonna have to deal with it. Man. And the second
(49:51):
thing is is that the Chiefs, who in the world
is going to beat him? After Andy Reid has been
there so long, continuously winning in that division. Only Detroit
is the only team that I can see that can
may play a game with him. But I know they're
making a lot of mistakes and they're fumbling and they're missing.
(50:13):
But the thing is Andy Reid's there, and it's going
to be hard to beat him. All right, guys, appreciate it,
take care, Thank you for.
Speaker 2 (50:21):
The phone call. Everybody can play with the Chiefs, Panthers, Raiders, Chargers, Bills.
Everybody plays. Is there something special to a team that
every single week figures out a way to win a
game like that? There's something about I want to say.
I saw a graphic put up and it was like, now,
I'm not a big quarterbacks or a wins or quarterback
(50:43):
stat guy, but when the margins are so thin in football,
having the best quarterback really helps. Of course, it was
like highest win percentage in one score games. It was
all basically Hall of Fame quarterbacks. It was Pat Mahomes,
Tom Brady, Peyton Manning. I can't remember the whole list
and all that type of stuff. There is something to
some Pat Mahomes magic and him when it comes down
(51:03):
to it, having that clutch factor, in that clutch gene.
But I don't know, man, they got to I would
be if I were a Chief fan, I would be
definitely afraid of this magic running out at So you're
saying keep playing with fire.
Speaker 3 (51:17):
You're saying that they're just the you're playing.
Speaker 2 (51:21):
You're playing with vulnerable too, vulnerable you're gonna You're gonna
eventually this fourth quarter magic is going to eventually end.
And maybe this this also says that they're not a
very good team, but at the end of the day,
they have Pat Mahomes get this game. What if you
played ten straight opponents that when you were beaten in
by twenty five or thirty points and you're all of
a sudden in the fourth quarter of a game, you
don't know what it's like to play in a competitive game.
(51:43):
And I guess there is maybe something to that, but
I think, yeah, okay, you can say that, you can
spend it whatever way you want, and we're we're not
gonna know into the playoffs, and even then we're not
gonna know it to one game, simple size. Anything can
happen at any given Sunday. I'm just gonna say this, I
was feeling the same way that you were two or
three weeks ago. But they're finding ways to do it
every single time. Yeah, it's frankly impressive, but beating the
(52:06):
Panthers by a field goal, and some of those they
got lucky with penalties or I mean blocked pond block
field goals. Although they said that wasn't lucky and then
the special teams coach had prepared for that and stuff
like that. But I mean two one score games with
the Raiders and beating the Panthers by a field goal,
I would be a little bit concerned. I feel good,
you're twelve and one, and oh, by the way, you're
back to back Super Bowl champions. Not feeling bad, but
(52:29):
I would say concern. But I'll say I watched a
little bit of that Bill's Rams game on Sunday before
the Rockets game. I think Buffalo goes to Kansas City
and can put up those kind of numbers for sure.
I mean, obviously Kansasity's defense is better than the Rams defense. Yeah,
but Josh Allen was n't afraid of traveling three thousand
miles across the country and putting up six touchdown. He
hasn't been. He was thirteen seconds away from winning an
(52:50):
AFC championship there. Yeah, No, if kas Division Round, whatever
it was, if Kansas City wins this, there'll be nothing
flukish to it. They're gonna have to beat Buffalo a heavyweight.
Pittsburgh ROSSI is playing like a heavy weight. I told
you don't sleep on those Steelers. Baltimore I'm not ready
(53:11):
to put them to bed just yet. Well, yeah, they
have Lamar Jackson, they have a chance. Their defenses, I
mean absolutely horrible. And if you're the LA Chargers, you're like,
we just we bear, we want, we want. We lost
the game off of a jink.
Speaker 4 (53:24):
True.
Speaker 2 (53:25):
And if you're Houston, you're like, well, we got a
chance to prove that we can beat Kansas City when
we play them in a couple of weeks. Yeah, here
it comes the test. We all talked about the late
season stretch. Dolphins, we were maybe not as good as
we thought initially, but with two a tongue of aloa back,
they've been a lot better. Dolphins, Ravens and Chiefs or
(53:45):
Chiefs and Ravens playing on Christmas Day is embarrassing, especially
because it's a Wednesday. If you had Christmas Day on
a normal Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, I'd get it. And
if gives zero f's they said, we're taking your Christmas Day,
NBA and we're in Netflix. Netflix is giving us how much?
Speaker 13 (54:07):
Again?
Speaker 2 (54:07):
Yes?
Speaker 4 (54:08):
For what?
Speaker 2 (54:08):
Uh huh? And we're just slapping together a team who's
on the broadcast. It's like mina times and like these
random announcers are out. It's a random conglomeration. There's no announcers. No,
they're no, they've been announce I can't remember exactly. It's
Uh Iron Eagle, Nate Burleson, and JJ Watt in the
first game, okay, and then it's the Texans Baltimore game.
(54:30):
Will have no Eagle, Iron Son, oh wow, and Greg Olsen.
That's a good team. Yeah, but JJ Watt will not
be calling a Texans game. I think Pittsburgh's playing their
first game run on Christmas Day. I can't remember.
Speaker 3 (54:43):
I'll take it, which means us to get to watch
his brother play.
Speaker 2 (54:46):

Speaker 1 (55:59):
Lunch Lunchtimes. This is the Matt Thomas Show.
Speaker 2 (56:11):
All right, Ross, what is wrong with you? We're watching
this video of the Simpsons doing the game into the
Bengals and the Cowboys. That's ridiculous. They made like a
virtual world. What are you talking about? Lisa on the
screen pass slip screen. Oh, they put her in his
chase Brown. That's funny. I mean, you know what, I'm
(56:31):
as Bryan's I gotta be honest, It's funny for like
five minutes, and then I turned it off. Last year,
they did toy story that let's se what kind of
Bart has Bart's ooh yeah, he's behind us. Sold it
as Homer versus Bart, Homer as the Cowboys and then
Bart as the Bengals. Bart getting the last left. As
per usual, as you know we're doing. They're running out
of ideas, They're simply running out of things. I mean,
(56:55):
this isn't running out of an idea. This is just
making more work for yourself to what end, to what gain?
I guess. I mean, are you taking viewers away from
ESPN for that? I don't known. The Manning Cast obviously
is very successful. I love the Manning Cast, by the way,
especially when Belichick's on in the first half and they're
just breaking down football. By the way, there are rumors
about Bill Belichick. I cannot find somebody that's I legitimately
(57:17):
trust on us. He mentioned himself. He said, we'll see,
we'll see when he was asked about it. I believe
on the Pat McAfee show. No, no, I'm talking about
within the last being done. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (57:29):
Oh, that it's a done deal. I didn't see that.
Speaker 2 (57:31):
Yeah. There's also another rumor out NBA wise, Jimmy Butler
once out of Miami. Okay, there are three teams you'd
like to go see. Okay, go ahead, Golden Stick Warriors,
Uh huh, Dallas Mavericks. Okay, you get one more cast
as to who would be the third team, the tom
Ball Terrapins. It'd be a suburb of the tom Ball Terrapins.
(57:55):
The Houston Rockets. Hmmm. You know when he is on
the court, he still got it. But I just don't
know when he's gonna be on the court. I would
say he's a culture fit with Imadoka Hard nos tough,
don't take any bs from anybody, plays hard, has never
been able to shoot three, so he fits perfectly with
(58:17):
the Rockets. Can I get a knock down, drag out,
unbelievable three point shooter because a reed Shepherd is trying,
it's not working right now, it's not working at all.
Maybe needs to go full Beard with this dash. I
don't know what he needs to do. Yeah, Jimmy Butler career,
oh thirty shooter, that's exactly what the Rockets shoot.
Speaker 3 (58:37):
He fits in perfect geez as the Rockets.
Speaker 2 (58:40):
Are twenty sixth in the NBA. So in theory, what
you would do is you would if you were to
do this and you kept Dylan or Jabbari and your rostery,
that one of those two guys would go to the bench.
Don't you think they would? They would want one of
those guys in return if you were to do that, Yeah,
you'd probably be giving one of them away. I mean,
I can't say, oh, that'd be the worst thing. And
then once it being traded, like I heard you said
(59:02):
about me, Oh okay, so you're covering your ass right
now rather than giving your true opinion. I don't. Okay,
you know what I'll do. You know they'll be fair
about it. I don't see it being a great fit
at thirty five year at high I just I think
the money, the age, the inconsistency, I mean, part of
what has been so good about this team, as the
Rockets have only used two different lineups this year. You know,
(59:24):
Fred missed again the other night against the Clippers and
the Men took his spot. But we have had a
remarkably consistent, storrying lineup every night and I think that's
part of what makes a good basketball team good, as
being not having to worry about different lineup cards every night.
I think Jimmy would add a layer to that. Now,
the past three years, Jimmy Butler has been a thirty
eight point five three point shooter in one hundred and
(59:46):
forty one games in three years. Not a huge sample size.
That's probably if it was one hundred and seventy five games,
I'd feel better about it. It's not a nothing sample size. Yeah,
I think the money is too crazy, and I think
the Rockets don't if they're gonna go really shuffle everything around.
It feels like Fred van Vliet might have to be
(01:00:07):
just because of matching. Money wise, it's gonna be had
to him or Dylan and a couple of other pieces.
If you go get see My thought is this, if
you go get a jump shooter, a legitimate forty point shooter,
where are you playing them Jabari spot? If you're moving,
are you having to trade Fred because you can't trade
(01:00:28):
Jalen can't trade Appy. At this point, the wheels kind
of fall off this offense. When Fred goes.
Speaker 13 (01:00:34):
Away, Fred's great friend's assistant turnover ratio it's unbelievable and
I don't think coaches want to give that up. Yeah,
and I kind of like, I think they kind of
like A Men and Tari being the first two guys
off the bench, scoring, rebounding, hustling, stealing, defending.
Speaker 2 (01:00:57):
The problem is you got to got a bunch of
players who are good at certain things and not good
at everything. You don't have guys who are as well
rounded like a men. Thompson does everything, but he can't shoot. Yeah,
although he's had a couple of threes in one game
last week. Jalen Green does everything offensively, but he can't shoot.
I mean albrid Sching Goon, Well, he doesn't shoot threes
as well, and sometimes he turns the ball over too much.
(01:01:18):
And he's not that he's been better improved defensively, but
it's it's not like you know, he's gonna be confused
with somebody who's first team All defense. I think it
just has to be if you're this is And if
a fella was to ask me about this, which he hasn't,
I would say, if you're gonna go really shake this
up right now, ROSSI in this season as compared to
me waiting till next season, depending on see how far
(01:01:40):
this team goes. It better be a This is a
player in the prime of his NBA career, has got
a lot left to offer, who's got reasonable money. That's
just unhappy. He wants to go somewhere else. And you've
got a couple of assets you can send back and return.
But it's gonna hurt the Rockets whatever, because the Rockets
have a really a solid eight man rotation that all adds,
(01:02:00):
as you to your point, all adds a little something
to the mix. They all add a little something to
the mix, but none of them are complete stars, and
maybe that makes them easier to trade away if.
Speaker 3 (01:02:10):
You're getting a star in return.
Speaker 2 (01:02:11):
Yeah, so that's somebody just want to throw out there,
all right, gut feelings time I Ross. I am ready to declaire,
and if I've done this or not, but I'm ready
to declaire. Where I think Alex Predman's going. Ooh, okay,
are you ready to do it?
Speaker 3 (01:02:25):
Or no?
Speaker 2 (01:02:26):
You don't have to, am I put any pressure on you.
I have a sneaking suspicion we might be on the
same page. So I'll see where you go. We'll let you.
I'm gonna let you dive in first and see how
the water looks. All right? Anybody out there have any

Speaker 1 (01:03:52):
This is their gut feeling on the Matt Thomas Show.
Speaker 2 (01:03:58):
All right, you made a lot of sense earlier with
what you said about the Yankees, but I don't know
if I'm gonna go with it because you're scared now
you're taking logic into this or your heart. Matthew, all right,

Speaker 3 (01:04:42):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (01:04:42):
For that long? A side two? You get a meal
on the way there. I didn't take the meal on
the way back because I was trying to sleep to
avoid jet lack. Yeah, on the way there, it was
chicken and rice or something, and then it was a
frozen sand It was like bland chicken and rice and
then a sandwich. Yeah, the meals I got on EVA
Airways just from Taiwan to Soul. It's a two hour flight.
(01:05:04):
We're way better. Just saying, oh, well, you all say it,
American Airlines step up your meal game on a sixteen
hour flight. I don't disagree. I mean the amount of
money you spent, you should get at least one hot
By the way, I didn't take off my shoes either time.
I'm proud of you. I didn't even I didn't think
about it. Actually, I brought slippers on the way back.
I was like, I'll bring some I brought some slippers.
(01:05:26):
Call I stole the slippers from the from the hotel room,
and I was gonna use that. They're gonna charge you,
By the way, what yeah, they're like the little plastic
they're in the Okay, I was gonna sell you one.
Speaker 3 (01:05:35):
Okay, the ones I get. You see, I'm not in
a five diamond joints. Come, I catch it.
Speaker 2 (01:05:38):
These are a little dollar store slippers. So I was
gonna put them on, but I kind of forgot and
I fell asleep, so I didn't even I didn't even
really need to take off my shoes.
Speaker 3 (01:05:45):
Take good, All right, Connor? How did we do last week?
Speaker 14 (01:05:48):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (01:05:48):
I have last week? And I also can can we do?
How did you get last week? You? You weren't even here?
We have a Google doc document?
Speaker 12 (01:05:56):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (01:05:56):
Sorry, sorry about that.
Speaker 2 (01:05:57):
Twenty four Matty.
Speaker 1 (01:05:59):
Let's go.
Speaker 3 (01:06:00):
Way is Connor frozen in the screen there?
Speaker 2 (01:06:02):
Yeah he is. Actually let me try to Uh, we
might have to have him restart his computer. Okay, we
don't have to look at him. An how we do?
Let's go Actually, I'm gonna go to mine from three
weeks ago, because I did lay down a few for
the next couple of weeks. If you recalling, we don't
seem to. I had the Texans going three and oh
their next three games nope, And you told me that
was the easiest call to Centrain. I was like, no,
(01:06:23):
you can always get upset. It's any given Sunday. And
while they did get upset by the Tennessee Titans, I said,
two of those games are gonna win by double digits.
Only one of those they did that was, of course
against the Dallas Cowboys, which that win is looking a
lot better, by the way, because the Cowboys are competitive
and they're winning games. They still don't win games at
home though, so well, you beat the Giants. But I
(01:06:45):
also said that Jake Paul would win by decision. Yeah,
that's great, which was correct. Now let me ask you this,
there was a lot of people back then for that
fight a few weeks ago that thought if it didn't
go that there would be a lot of upset people
because as you wouldn't be able to get the commercials in,
you wouldn't be able to have people in the eyes
of Tyson backing out of the fight because he's hurt
(01:07:06):
or just going one or two rounds. Uh huh. That
it was better that they went the fold. So because
they were short rounds to begin with, I think Jake
Paul could have knocked him out and didn't. I do
think that all right, So that's conspiracy then, and let's
see I. I also said when I come back, the
Rockets starting five will be the same, barring injury. There
was some talk of replacing Jabari Smith Junior, who was
not shooting. Well good if you recall that's right, I said,
(01:07:28):
Mike McCarthy will be like.
Speaker 15 (01:07:29):
Man, these are all hits, Maddie, because you were talking
about you, because you're and you know what you're to
tell the truth take now I'm remembering, was that Mike
McCarthy was gonna be fired if after you should.
Speaker 2 (01:07:42):
And I said, that's a ridiculous take. And Mike McCarthy
will be the coach of the Cowboys. He's still the coach.
And I said, also, this is another hit, Alex Bregman
will not be signed. Soto signs first. But that was
also kind of You couldn't give yourself props for that
one baseball genius like a minus one thousand on that.
Speaker 6 (01:08:00):
All right?
Speaker 2 (01:08:00):
Last week, Matt, you said azz al Shire's suspension will
not be reduced. Yep, got that one. You also had
the Rockets going two and one on the road trip,
including a win over the Sacramento Kings. They led to
the fuse in front of me. You know, so the
beam the beam, yeah, beam fu same thing. It's not
(01:08:22):
exactly at all.
Speaker 16 (01:08:23):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:08:23):
And then you also said the Golden bat rule will
not happen. Yes, it better not. There's just no way.
All right, there's no way the Golden bat rule happens.
Connor McGovern had the Rockets going an undefeated three and
o on the West Coast road trip. No, I think
he had the opposite. Oh really, I'm sorry. You said
they were gonna lose all three of their games, did
you not, Connor? I actually think I went. I said undefeated.
Speaker 3 (01:08:46):
Uh, no, you're That means you would have been positive.
Speaker 2 (01:08:48):
Way it says three and oh I'm going by the document,
all right, by the dock, I mean I was wrong.
Speaker 3 (01:08:53):
So yeah, either way.
Speaker 2 (01:08:55):
You're wrong, and he's wrong on this one. To Texas
Winds the SEC Championship, m M. I tried to back
you up so close horse Missouri. Who's the Missouri playing?
They've got Iowa and the Music City Bowl. Let me
tell you. I don't mean to be rude, but not
a soul cares about that game. What do you mean
(01:09:15):
Iowa Hawkeyes do? Brett Nolan does? That's it. It's in Nashville.
That's fun. You're gonna go. It's looking kind of expensive,
so maybe not. Nashville is a good weekend. It's the
day before New Year's Eve too, so that'd be kind
of New Year's Eve Nashville with the boys. Would you
like would you like it as a Christmas gift? How much?
We're talking? What are you getting? Flight? Hotel? But what if?
(01:09:38):
What if I give you?
Speaker 3 (01:09:39):
What if I give you some money towards the trip?
But that helped?
Speaker 2 (01:09:42):
It would But I'm also missing I'd be missing Monday, Tuesday.
Oh no, no, you're not going to work, You're not stay
right here. We need we need you here. Have we
got great producers here? Yeah, a lot of great producers
of the iHeart Houston and I'm more available to work.
Yes for you? Were they? That's okay? Lot of great
(01:10:03):
so many great ones. You had to work a double ship. Uh,
that's pretty funny. Dan Matthews had a ZA suspension reduces
to two games, which I also thought was gonna happen.
Speaker 3 (01:10:13):
Dan likes the golden bat role. Is that just the
worst take of the day?
Speaker 2 (01:10:16):
He does? He likes it for what his home pickup
games in baseball.
Speaker 3 (01:10:20):
For just adding more energy to the baseball game.
Speaker 2 (01:10:23):
That's ridiculous. Yeah, that's a let's just a bridge too far.
I'm all for juicing up the game, but it's a
bridge too far. Uh, Rockets go one and two on
the road trip. He was correct there, and he said
Bregman decision final by next Wednesday.
Speaker 3 (01:10:35):
That would be tomorrow. Could be possible.
Speaker 2 (01:10:37):
Hey, I think it feels like something could be shaken
and moving pretty quick here, So we'll see, all right
seven seven one three two one two five seven ninety.
If you have any sports predictions, let us know seven
one three seven two one two five seven ninety. Here
we go. I don't think I've ever declared where he's going. Okay,
Alex Pregnant's of Boston Red Sox or a socks. Very confusing.
(01:11:03):
What will we single? Our sock would be a all
the socks? Okay, he will be a Sox. Sounds really weird. Yeah,
he'll be a Red Stocking. There you go. I like that.
Or a bean eater excuse me, the Boston bean Eaters.
That's today. Yeah. I do like your logic of are
the Yankees gonna go zero for two at the top
(01:11:23):
free agents? I do love that take. Mm hmm, there's
a gut feeling. But Alex Bregman, would he be able
to stomach being in New York after years and years
of them booing his ass since the twenty seventeen season.
Would he would he really? Would he really be a
crip after being with the Bloods for as long as
(01:11:45):
he was. So you're telling me, I love that you're
going with the Los Angeles gang member. I just had to.
You're telling me, I know it doesn't make any sense.
Red Sox are going to offer less money than the Yankees.
Now Alex Bregman is going to say, I can't be
I'm I'm saying that, I'm saying that the Red Sox
are gonna step it up, that the Red Sox are sneaky.
Just went into the background. He's gonna be Yankee. It's
(01:12:09):
my gut feeling. Okay, I want all of a sudden
digest that gut feeling, gut feeling. Not putting my name
on anything. No, no, no, no, this is so not putting
your name on this. It's it feels like I said,
it feels like being a dirty whore. Hal Steinbrenner just
lost Soto to the you know, you're making a lot
(01:12:30):
of steinber going to allow Brian Cashman to lose another
top free agent to the Red Sox. But he didn't
lose one of the Red Sox. I guess losing the
mess would be comp but maybe the maybe the Yankees
don't say the same value in Bregman is maybe the
Red Sox do. That's very possible. I mean, you can't.
It's only you're only losing something if you felt like
(01:12:52):
it was tremendous value to be to begin with. And oh,
by the way, you you twist a knife in the
Astros fan base. You beat the Red Sox and twist
the knife on the Stros. Got feeling, I don't want
to say it. I feel like I eat a shower
after all, right, I'm going Red Sox. You're going Yankees.
(01:13:13):
These are very gutty feelings. Connor what you say, I'm
gonna go Yankees too. I'm actually yeah, I'm gonna go
Red Sox. But I don't feel great about it. It's
a good feeling.
Speaker 3 (01:13:27):
I feel like I don't feel great.
Speaker 2 (01:13:29):
I feel like every time I hear Dana Brown say
we're working as hard as we can't, well, it doesn't
take a lot of work. It takes that check that
you wrote, crumpling it up and rewriting a new check
really not that difficult. Either you do it or you don't. Yeah,
and again I understand that they don't because basically he's
going for the big money, big big, big, big money.
(01:13:50):
The money he's gonna get, I guess will be I
think at the end of the day, people will say
that's not money we'll spend. Even though Wan Soda was
the Kremdeller come Afrei agency, people are saying rossing that
this is just too much money. Sometimes because you're the highest,
you're the biggest winner, doesn't make your a great It's
not a great acquisition. You buy a company for twenty
(01:14:11):
five times it's worth Yeah, you got the company, but
is it a good company? Are you gonna make money
from it? And I think the Mets are going to
regret the Soto deal, massively regret it. How many championships
do they need to win for it not to them
not to regret it? One or two by by their stakes,
they've not won one since what eighty six one one
(01:14:34):
gets it done? Could happen fifty one million dollars for
a twenty six year old. That is a butcher in
the outfield, below average outfielder. Safe to say, could you
d h him half the time? By the way, I
was right on one thing. I don't think I put it
on the gut feelings. Joe Spotta said the Winter meetings,
he wants your nine in less than that left field
(01:14:56):
than he ever before. And I was always on the
mark on that. M Yeah, I think I think we're
gonna see more of yourd on dhing than ever before.
Who's who the hell's out nownfield now chesa fez? Yeah,
Jake Myers, Kyle Tucker goes away one step back, it
goes two steps forward when you trade to get the
prospects one step back to go two steps forward. That
(01:15:19):
sounds like a song from the seventies. Sounds like somebody
wrote that La gift shop that got mad at you
for taking video. I gotta show you the reviews, yelled at, Okay,
I'd like to see. I'm gonna say, I'm gonna kin
send him to you. Okay, all right, let's get some
more for you guys in and all you want to
get to you got a quick one. The Rockets defeat
the Warriors. Finally snap the curse and they go to
(01:15:39):
Las Vegas. God, I want to hug you right now.
I would like them to win. It's a gut feeling. Finally,
the cur you can't lose sixteen in a row. They're
favored in the game. All right now, Brian mctagger just
send an email out. It's his little MLB Collie writes. Okay,
his headline astro's bullish on Bregmann return? Would you have
(01:16:03):
your MLB writer write that? Would I'm asking you a
simple question, would you do that? Because Brian McTaggart's first
one was good journalist, but he writes for MLB dot com,
which is owned by all the baseball teams. But he's
also probably using the quotes from A Spot and Dana
Brown yesterday, which they sounded fairly optimistic and talked about
(01:16:24):
continuing to their pursuit of one Alex Bregman. Hmm, all right,
here we go. More your gut feelings up next? Are
you bullish on Bregman Returney, I'm more bullish on I
just told you he's gonna be the Yankees.
Speaker 3 (01:16:39):
I'm more bullish on will Lewis than I about.
Speaker 2 (01:16:42):
Well, that's not good. He's playing okay, actually okay, seven
three five seven on any More Gut Feelings.
Speaker 11 (01:16:50):
Next Lunch Timers, Lunch Timers, this is the Matt Thomas Show.
Speaker 1 (01:16:58):
That Thomas, Y know, they got it good Lunchtimers. Gut
Feelings continue now on the Matt Thomas Show seven.
Speaker 2 (01:17:06):
One three two one two five seven ninety. Our buddy
Kenny and Katie says, Matt, Seriously, I'm sixty one. I
think my days of seeing the Astros what a championship
are over.
Speaker 4 (01:17:15):
Well.
Speaker 2 (01:17:15):
I mean, I hope that you're not gonna end your
life at sixty five, but I mean if they lose pregnant.
Bottom line is, the Mariners got hot late. The Rangers
are a mess. The Angels improved a little bit with Kukuchi,
they got better with kokuoch Trout. Maybe back at some
(01:17:37):
point the West may it may only take eighty five
wins and win the America League West next year. Just
telling the truth. Wait a minute, Kokuchi's an angeluch is
an angel? Wow? Okay, you didn't know that. I kind
of forgot It's all right. I think I vaguely remember
seeing that. Once you forget what where Kakuchi goes, you
just you know, you don't tend to follow it. You
(01:17:57):
know it's important if you don't force it with Kokuchi puns. Man, No,
you don't. You should And if a Kacucci comes and goes,
you just say it was a good Kakuci. You move
along to find the next Gacucci when you can find it.
I can always count on you to run something into
the ground. I don't feel like to be accurate at all.
(01:18:17):
I get you say running. You say running into the ground.
I say scentuated seven one three two one gracious as
one would say, yeah, seven one three two one two
five seven others.
Speaker 3 (01:18:31):
Connor, do you know we got him?
Speaker 2 (01:18:32):
We're good. I'm gonta fresh hair going. You think his
girl style in his hair for him, it's nazzy. No,
I don't think so. Seven one three two one two
five seven. He's got his own swag podner in Baytown. Connor,
all right, excuse me, ponder what's in your gut this week?
Speaker 7 (01:18:46):
Man?
Speaker 17 (01:18:47):
Listen, I think uh, I think it was good Kakuchi.
While the last listen, Uh, I want to go with
my uh my gut feeling here is that if we
do not sign Bregman.
Speaker 2 (01:19:00):
To a new deal or give them an offer that
he accepts.
Speaker 17 (01:19:04):
And I think we're out on both all three of
where we're at with Tucker, Frambert and Alex because I
think it's for the duration of.
Speaker 2 (01:19:15):
The long run.
Speaker 17 (01:19:16):
Here's my fear with that gut field we replace those
names with like a Paul Goldschmid, something with a big
name still that has some I don't know, ticket sellability
and and and I hate to feel that way. It's
just something that we've always done as well before loun
(01:19:36):
now and and well before all all those other management
teams that we've had before what we have now. And
then the last thing is that my hope is that
if we do allow that to happen, that we actually
go get some of these guys Crochet uh and and
hopefully like a Lewis Robert Jr. And if we can
afford those kind of contracts and get those players out
(01:19:56):
here while they're still on deals, then you know, sustainability
to win in the near future and put us right
back in a position to make trades and keep the
farm system built.
Speaker 2 (01:20:07):
And I'll hang up and listen, thank you. I know
there's a lot of predicting in there, but I'm gonna
mention this what I brought up at the very beginning
of the show today, if Bregman leaves, even though the
American League West seems still very attainable because there's no
real powerful team in the group, you do not want
(01:20:28):
to go through this next year by losing two key
members of your team.
Speaker 3 (01:20:33):
You absolutely keep your phone.
Speaker 2 (01:20:35):
On, you know, like you know people sometimes they silence
their notifications at night. Yes, if you're Dana Brown, you
do not do that. It's gotta get some sleep. No,
you know, you keep the tone on. Nobody's gonna get
in with a hair brain trade idea at twelve thirty
and am hair brain idea twelve thirty in the morning.
(01:20:55):
Absolutely connect, Yes, but not for a major league trade.
Speaker 3 (01:20:59):
Something else.
Speaker 2 (01:20:59):
Make it you up, text miss you? You might get
a wat y d are you like you're still awake
checking somebody's uh uh Facebook messengers active?
Speaker 18 (01:21:12):
You might get a thinking of you well, I mean,
Dani brock A gets some text with people saying thinking
of your team, thinking of jord On, thinking of yours,
they're two stars.
Speaker 2 (01:21:23):
Thinking of Tucker. I don't think that's gonna happen. He
can leave the notifications off or the noties if the
kids call them.
Speaker 3 (01:21:31):
Okay, Uh, he's got to make those moves.
Speaker 2 (01:21:34):
He's got it, he's got a he's got a seriously
thing about him, and I do not want him to
wait until the trade deadline for this. That would be
the practical thing. Or they could go to the plan
B that Brian mctager was talking about last week, where
you lose out on Bregman, you go for Christian Walker,
you try to pry open the uh, the window for
another year. Thennet's one last dance and then rather than
(01:21:55):
getting some prospects for Fromber and Tucker, you let them.
You just let them go or draft picks. But then
what are you doing with Jordon's prime? What are you
doing with the on air diez is prime, with Hunter
Brown's prime, with with possibly Spencer Eric Ghetty. I mean,
because if we make the move now, you shorten the
length of the painful times, perhaps by a year. Yeah,
but you could also trade those two guys away and
get and it turns out what you get back into
(01:22:17):
being That's right, there's no guarante. Yeah, that's right. They're
in a tough spot. But if Dana Brown was brought here,
and I know believe he was for his acute sense
of what a talented player is in mount of league system.
That's what you're brought him here for. He's got a
judge those player's drafting acumen. Yeah, let's get before the
top of the hour of the news at noon, we
say hello to Felipe on seven I eleven fifty five.
Speaker 3 (01:22:36):
Felipe, how are you?
Speaker 16 (01:22:38):
I'm doing great, guys, Hey, quick feeling.
Speaker 8 (01:22:41):
I think the Texans will go one and two over
the next three games.
Speaker 2 (01:22:46):
With that one win being the Chiefs win. But they
beat the Chiefs. They beat the Chiefs, not the Chiefs win,
but they beat it went over the Chiefs. My second
one is I think we do sow they do sign
Kyle Tucker.
Speaker 5 (01:22:59):
Jim Crane comes out of his comfort zone and spends
in a godly monu money not too much.
Speaker 2 (01:23:04):
No no, no, no, no no. You can't say, on golly,
not too much in the same sentence I'm talking about
I'm not talking seven, you know, but I'm saying probably
close to three hundred not happening Kyle Tucker. If if,
if Alex Bregmant is gone, Kyle Tucker is super gone. Yeah,
(01:23:28):
I think we can let's hope not Okay, you can
hope all you want. I hope you get a supermodel
knocking the door twelve Thur in the morning. You can
hope tell you want. I think we just both comfortably
put our name on it. Tucker's hitting free agency. Tucker
can't wait to hit for agency. Tucker's like petitioning mentor
legue baseball to join a year early. Now players have
come back after hitting free agency. Not very many, but
(01:23:51):
they have Aaron Judge. Uh, Aaron Nola. I guess if
your name is Aaron, You're coming back, oh real quick.
During the news of Newton, can we play our buddy?
Nick de Toro's is that news? Well, it's commentary. You
sure we can do it, man, you can do to
t All twenty. It's up to you. It's a news
and news your segment. We've got anfl re one bottom
(01:24:12):
of the next hour too. A lot of ross vision
coming up here in the next thirty five minutes. And
believe it or not, today's at one. I know all
these things you're prepared for back and I gotta go
back to work. Eleven fifty seven seven three two one
two five seven on the news at noon is next.
Speaker 1 (01:24:33):
Lunchtimers This is the Matt Thomas Show.
Speaker 2 (01:24:37):
It is twelve oh two on Sports Talk seven only.
What's happened to lunch timers Halfway Home?
Speaker 3 (01:24:44):
On a Tuesday edition of the show.
Speaker 2 (01:24:46):
Rockets and Warriors Tomorrow night in the NBA knockout Game.
We'll get details on that coming up throughout the course
the next couple of days. We have Winter meetings going
on in Major League Baseball. We've got the NFL from
last night. We got a lot of things to get to.
All part of the news at noon, and for that
(01:25:07):
we go to the news desk. Here's sports Harvy. Yes, Matthew,
we keep it going here on the Matt Thomas Show
with Ross. Well, some news at noon affore doing that.
That sounds terrible. I can't help it. It's just like
it's like a Pavlovian response to this, this news embarrassed.
I'm sorry. All right, Well, the Houston ash Shrows, of
course some news coming out with them, well, not necessarily
(01:25:30):
some news. But at the winter meetings, as you mentioned,
Dana Brown talking about a number of different topics, including
willing to listen to trades on Fromber and Tucker. But
here's what he had to say about Jim Crane and
his commitment to putting out a good team.
Speaker 8 (01:25:45):
Yeah, I mean, as I mentioned, you know, Jim Crane
has been very committed to, you know, putting out a
really good team. And you know, we've signed a bunch
of guys and so ultimately, as I mentioned last year,
we did the Hater deal, you know, we kind of
move by to CBT, and so Crane's very committed to,
you know, putting a competitive team out there.
Speaker 7 (01:26:06):
Right now, we're projected to win the division.
Speaker 8 (01:26:09):
And so I think, you know, we'll do whatever we
have to do to have a good team.
Speaker 2 (01:26:15):
We'll do whatever we have to do to have a
good team. I'll like get says Dana Brown. Sounds good
compared to walking up going. You know what, we'll be
fine if you put together on a half assed team.
Well anything else, man, No, okay, sorry, as we go
along here, as you mentioned, Matt Alex Bregman could be
(01:26:35):
going to another team, maybe the Yankees, maybe the Red Sox,
maybe somewhere else. If that happens, you and I are
on the same page. They need to trade away and
get some prospects back. Their two biggest possible free agent assets,
Kyle Tucker, and from er Valdez. Here's John Morosi on
MLB Network talking about the Astros receiving havev the interest
(01:26:56):
on Kyle Tucker.
Speaker 19 (01:26:57):
But let me tell you why there's at least some
chance of a trade involving Kyle Tucker. The overall free
agent prices right now are quite high, and the number
of teams with a great capacity to add high dollar
free agents is relatively small, which means trade candidates like Tucker,
even though entering his final year before free agency, are more.
Speaker 2 (01:27:21):
Valuable than ever.
Speaker 19 (01:27:23):
And you just saw on that board a moment ago
where Kyle Tucker stands among the preeminent sluggers in baseball.
He actually had a higher adjusted OPS than Juan Soto
in twenty twenty four. Now he played in half as
many games. To be clear, he was injured. He had
the stress reaction in his shin, so that is the
health piece of it, and how many games he'll play
(01:27:45):
is a real consideration here.
Speaker 2 (01:27:46):
He is not Juan Soto.
Speaker 19 (01:27:48):
But when you think about the Yankees' interest in Tucker,
he could help them replace the production they lost in
Juan Soto, and for that reason, and Dana Brown acknowledging
yesterday that he'll listen on everybody, including Tucker and from Barvaldez.
Definitely got the attention Loren of a lot of people
in this lobby, a.
Speaker 2 (01:28:10):
Lot of a lot of tension, a lot of interest,
attention or tension. Tucker attention that too, Yeah, and also
some tension and some attention. Kyle Tucker trading block, So
if you trade him. The first words of their press
conference would be why did you trade Kyle Tucker with
(01:28:32):
a year loft in his contract? The answer would have been,
not because we got a deal we couldn't refuse. It
was because the reality was Kyle's people have said to
us that he is not going to resign here with
the astros UH conversations with Kyle and Tucker, Kyle Tucker
and his people haven't really gone in the direction that
we wanted to. We also got the opportunity opened up
for a deal that we really liked, the assets that
(01:28:54):
we're getting in return, and he told us to go
take a flying lead. And we think for the for
the brighter future of this organization going forward. While it's
going to hurt us in the short term, I think
long term, this is going to be a great deal
for the Houston Astros and the future is bright, perfect
and we'd all buy it because it's the truth. What
he wanted to say, what he'd liked to say was
k Kyle told us take a fly and leap and
(01:29:17):
we're rolling off from seventy years and it's like, if
you double that, maybe we'll talk. But that would be
the sign to say. We already have had conversations with Kyle,
and Kyle has said that there's no way after twenty
twenty five is coming back to the Astra. There's one
thing that Dana Brown said in that bite that we
played though, that makes me think even if they lose bregnant,
they're not going to go in that direction. And that
(01:29:38):
was him saying we are projected to win the division,
and he's right. Does Jim Crane say like there's a
number of ways to approach us, There's the way that
you and I have said is just not necessarily blow
it up, but tray away a couple of pieces, get
some prospects yah, or there is squeeze the last bit
of the lemon the back Indo Jose l two VA's prime.
(01:30:02):
This could be one of the last couple of years
that he's really a plus player signed, somebody like a
Christian Walker and free agency and throw out Shay Wickham
or whoever at third base and pray there win the division,
and then pray after that prioritize winning the American League West,
which is in a murderer's row of opponents, and then
(01:30:22):
say anything could happen in the playoffs, including getting swept
in two games by the Detroit Tigers. Anything can happen
being on the table, You know what, would you the
back half of your conversation makes more sense because they've
(01:30:44):
because they keep squeezing, and.
Speaker 3 (01:30:46):
They they've let Charlie Martin goes.
Speaker 2 (01:30:49):
They've let Garrett Cole, Garrett Cole go Springer, Carlos, all
these go and they've always had replacement pieces.
Speaker 3 (01:30:57):
But there is no replacement piece for Alex Bregman though.
Speaker 20 (01:31:00):
No.
Speaker 3 (01:31:00):
But they can say there could be.
Speaker 2 (01:31:02):
They can say it. They're gonna still say we have
a Corvette franchise. We've got jan Air Diez is gonna
be a twenty five home run guy. We got jord
and Alvarez, we got Josel two based so very much
in the prime of his career. We'd like what we
see out of Witcomb and whatnot. In terms of Zach Decenzo,
how about what we got Kyle Tucker two. I mean,
Kyle's not gonna not be If Kyle Tucker's an Astro
(01:31:24):
twenty twenty five is gonna.
Speaker 3 (01:31:25):
Play, he's gonna wear the uniform. I got you.
Speaker 2 (01:31:28):
All right, Well, let's move along to some football side
of things. Matthew as Demiico Ryan speaking to the media yesterday,
everybody excited to be back after the BIE WEEKND.
Speaker 9 (01:31:39):
It was really really nice to see the guys come
back refreshed, seeing them bounce around today in our practice,
it was good to see it. Feel the energy from
the guys, also feel the sense of urgency from all
of us, like and that's what that's what's needed at
this time, man. I mean, everybody's excited to be back
out on the grass practicing. Like we got our much
needed rest and now it's to get back to work,
(01:32:00):
which we're excited about.
Speaker 2 (01:32:03):
Excited to get back to work. And Christian Harris and
Kenyon Green both designated for return one of them. That's
great to hear one like, you know what, go rest.
Are you sure you're feeling better? You maybe need a
little depth, you know, somebody gets hurt and put them
in there for a series while they go get evaluated
for concussion and hopefully come back. What a warm body.
That's what you're going to sell the audience, Kenyan Green
(01:32:26):
is added depth, it feels me, added holdings, and added
blown sex and added illegal procedures. Well, don't forget blown
run blocks as well. So I mean he can add
all of that in there. Matt All right. Then the
last but not least, Matt on the News at noon,
we'll go a little bit off the beaten track. Keep
it with baseball and Nick Totro, Friend of the Show,
(01:32:50):
his reaction to Juan Soto becoming a New York met I.
Speaker 21 (01:32:55):
Got two words for you, that's right. Do you don't
know what you wrote in on and the calvary behind you?
Speaker 2 (01:33:01):
That's right?
Speaker 4 (01:33:01):
Mother.
Speaker 21 (01:33:02):
Yeah, I'm taking it personal. We gave you all love,
we gave you off heart and soul.
Speaker 2 (01:33:07):
It wasn't enough.
Speaker 21 (01:33:08):
You turned your cap around inter the World Series. I
saw that move. Seven hundred million, seven thirty Yeah.
Speaker 22 (01:33:14):
It wasn't enough. It wasn't enough, guaranteed years, it wasn't enough.
You don't even choose the Dodgers. You don't even choose
the Dodgers go off Broadway to the Mets. You don't
want to be on Broadway, and you don't want to
be Judge's guy. You don't want to be Judge's partner.
Oh that's right, Judge, Now it's your team.
Speaker 2 (01:33:29):
That's it. Let's stick it up his gonna ask, that's right.
Let's go out.
Speaker 22 (01:33:32):
Let's get Burns freed, pregnant.
Speaker 2 (01:33:34):
Let's get to the osk. I don't give them now,
We're not get around.
Speaker 21 (01:33:38):
Take those skid brungy whatever, those all those stupid Mets.
Speaker 2 (01:33:46):
Nick Taturio seems like he's displeased with one, so I
will say unhinged, mildly displeased. I always thought the Yankees
hitted the Red Socks. They were just annoyed by the men.
But that was not annoyed. That was you left one
sister for the other. That was seek therapy. That's what
(01:34:08):
that was. I think probably every day for Nick. And
we loved Nick more than like I seriously, we were gonna.
I thought about calling him this week to down in
the air, but I was like, I'm not doing get
him on.
Speaker 3 (01:34:18):
When then the Yankees signedman, that's a done deal.
Speaker 2 (01:34:25):
And for an organization for a fan base that has
booed every Astro four years since all the stuff went down, hypocrites.
That would be the biggest hint of hippo, not hint,
it would be the blatant use of hypocrisy.
Speaker 12 (01:34:37):
Ever.
Speaker 2 (01:34:37):
He even said in that signed Bregman sign everybody? What
do you say to Oscar? He said, sign them all?
It would make it a super sexy season if Bregmant's
a Yankee.
Speaker 3 (01:34:50):
And how would the reaction be for Houstonians?
Speaker 2 (01:34:52):
Not great? Who's who would know? Who would go nick
to Toarel and Bregman if he will sign with the Yankees.
That's the question, have you Matt Thomas Bunbee? No, Bunbee knows.
It's the business. Anybody does.
Speaker 3 (01:35:09):
Like who's the most famous astro fan?
Speaker 2 (01:35:13):
Uh might be Bunbee, gotta be bun Uh Megan thee Stallion,
she's a big astro fan, huge watches the full one
sixty two MLB dot TV. She's glued, she's got the
season past thing. Yeah, I respect that all right? That that,
my friend is the news at noon. So if Bragman
(01:35:35):
goes to the Yankees, who represents Houston in that vile, vicious,
profanity laced tweet like, friends, remember when the Lakers sucked,
Well they still kind of suck. What's his face? Snoop
Dogg goes after them all the time. Yeah, and the
(01:35:55):
Steelers for some reason. Yeah, but I feel like Snoops
has become a fan of every team. Well, I think
he's a long term, long time Steelers guy. Okay, but
he really attacks the Lakers when they don't win. Who
goes after the baseball team? Who go who represents the
h when it comes to ooh, it feels like a
dirty horse, saying potential New York Yankee Alex Bragley, I
(01:36:20):
mean the Red Sox hurts the Yankees. Really sounds painful?
Could happen? Twelve thirteen of The Matt Thomas Show with
Ross seven to one three two one two five seven
ninety seven to one three two one two five seven
ninety Are your testosterone levels in bad shape?
Speaker 3 (01:36:37):
You're like, Matt, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:36:38):
Well, then why don't we help you and get to

(01:37:39):
That's Game Day Men's Health dot Com, slash Houston.
Speaker 1 (01:37:44):
Lunchtimers Lunchtimes. This is the Matt Thomas Show.
Speaker 2 (01:37:53):
All right. The rewind is coming up at the bottom
of the hour from the NFL Weekend. Really strange story
comeing out of New York. Actually not in New York,
it's just on the East coast, North Carolina has been
interviewing people for their head coaching job, and Bill Belichick's like,
I'm going to take your job if you want me.
(01:38:17):
Some East Coast reporter who's got twenty two thousand followers,
he's a college football reporter, not verified, but it feels like.
Speaker 3 (01:38:25):
He's someone in the know.
Speaker 2 (01:38:27):
Says that Bill Belichick has told North Carolina that he
is going to take the job and that his son,
Steven Belichick will be the coach in waiting, and that
he has also prepared a four hundred page manual of
how to how he would run the North Carolina football program.
And I'm going to assume it would be from coaching
(01:38:48):
to how they train, to their nil to their recruiting.
I mean, just what you would normally expect to have
in a huge college for a huge college football program,
which North Carolina is not a huge program, but it's good.
Speaker 3 (01:38:59):
I mean, they've had success. And obviously Mac Brown's tier two,
tier two and a half, two and a half. What
is tier three?
Speaker 2 (01:39:08):
Would that be?
Speaker 12 (01:39:08):
Like?
Speaker 2 (01:39:10):
Tier three would be like what? Don't even stone even
I love the softball to you. I don't want you
to hit it, won't you? I want you to take
the pitch. I don't know if I can spin on
this one, Battie. It's just looking down the middle, middle middle, Memphis,
(01:39:30):
you're gonna be, You're gonna be, You're gonna be eating
those words eventually. Well Tier three uh a U n
l V. If you will, Oh no, you see better
than Memphis and U n l V. Okay, so Tier
three would be Wake four.
Speaker 1 (01:39:44):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:39:44):
I don't mean to go acc on you here, but
like Wake Forest, I mean it depends on Boston College. Okay,
it can can come down to semantics. Yeah, Illinois, Boston College, Illinois.
If we're talking Tier one being of course like heritage
programs and Tier two, what the Texas A and m's
the ole missus that's Tier three? Yeah, Houston's yeah, yeah,
(01:40:09):
we're getting there, slow steps. It's only been two straight
years without a bowl. But that's not here nor there.
It's Tier three. Okay, what is that? What your company
in Houston? It's uncor is A.
Speaker 3 (01:40:21):
Tier three is a huge group.
Speaker 2 (01:40:22):
By the way, Texas Tech Tier two or two three,
let's talk about that in two years their collective is
pretty strong, all right, Okay, point being is this why
what a seventy something year old coach who hasn't been
on a college campus to coach what forty years? We
(01:40:46):
didn't you hear. I feel like the light bulb went
on for me when you mentioned the Steve Belichick thing.
Get his son a head coach shop. Yeah, I'm sure
that's part of the manual. Yeah, but Stephen Belichick is
the one that's been Can you can you imagine the
emotional abuse per poor Steve Belichick has suffered throughout his life.
How about the fact that he break How about could
(01:41:07):
you be sexually attracted to your future stepmother?
Speaker 3 (01:41:18):
She's twenty four?
Speaker 2 (01:41:19):
Excuse me, she's older than she's older than you are,
younger than you are. I believe there's a whole genre
on that.
Speaker 23 (01:41:29):
Matt.
Speaker 3 (01:41:30):
Oh, where can you find that? By the way, I'm
curious Ross, how do you And first of all, how.
Speaker 4 (01:41:34):
Do you know?
Speaker 2 (01:41:34):
These depends on what state you're in? Yeah, you taught
no Texas, no California, a little more available. Anyways, what
we're talking football? You just you know what it's good
to see in my time off, Matt, you have not
changed one bit. Okay, First of all, I'm proud of
you for not mentioning Taylor, But then you did, then
(01:41:56):
you went to the Steve Belichick attracted to his step mother.
They're not married. There's a there's a potential for it,
probably like a good fifteen years older than whoever this
girl is. What I don't get is why sons want
the jobs gifted to him by dads. I mean, it
happens all the time. What do you mean you think
(01:42:17):
no Eagle's upset? He's on Netflix? Yeah, No Eagles. I
think Joe Budden like.
Speaker 3 (01:42:22):
I like Noah. He's a nice guy. God, he's getting
some great gigs.
Speaker 2 (01:42:26):
Bronnie James is upset he got a three million or
four million dollars deal? Is he not even an NBA
player either way? Did you see the latest Instagram photo
going out or video of him Bronnie?
Speaker 12 (01:42:36):
No.
Speaker 2 (01:42:37):
It says Bronnie's first NBA dunk and he goes up
for the big dunk and the ball leaves his hands
and just clanks off the backboard. It was not a dunk.
He still hasn't dunked in the NBA. He's like six
four in. I don't think so. I don't know he's
playing much, is he? He's not super athletic either? Fine?
I think apparently Bryce is supposed to be and that's
why him playing the same game meant absolutely nothing. Now,
(01:42:57):
when Bryce plays in deserves to be there, then it's
gonna be a great story. Well, it's up to you
if you will believe that. I believe the majority. I'm
in the majority, and I feel good about that. Normally
I'm in the minority a lot of things. That's okay
if you want to get all upset about it, and
that's fine. I'm not upset at people. I feel vindicated,
thank you very much. Bad Yeah, it wouldn't have happened.
(01:43:17):
We're not arguing this, please. I don't have to argue
because I win. I don't win very many arguments on
this one. That's nothing special, all right, So why but
why why would you? I mean, there's gonna be a
bunch of NFL jobs, and unless unless Belichick has been
told for the NFL great buying, you're too old. You
don't have any substain success without Tom Brady as your quarterback.
(01:43:39):
We need the NFL is going to a younger read
of type of coach. We don't need old stodgy guys
set his ways running things. Well, you can be old
sogy and coaching as long as you win in college.
I think it's more of the former the old. I
think it's the age thing more than you know, having
had success without Brady. I mean I think they did.
Didn't have a ten win season with Mac Jones one
of those years in there, Jacobe Prissett or somebody. We've
(01:44:00):
had some success, but nothing close to ten games of
Mac Jones. I mean, you're not a terrible coach, I
don't think, but uh, ash thing the NFL is not
unless you have a roster that is literally you need
somebody to take you to that next level, but to
where you're banging down the door and you're looking for somebody.
(01:44:20):
But do you know that the seventeen year olds and
he well be recruiting next year have very faint recollection
of who Bill Belichick is. How many of them who
knew who Mac Brown was?
Speaker 4 (01:44:34):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:44:34):
Afair, but but that didn't that didn't have sustandability. Yeah,
but maybe mac Brown had some decent seasons there. But
mac Brown probably also had a lot of alumni support
to say, hey, come back and make us roll of
it again. Probably, And I don't know, And I'm curious
how the alums would take I mean, When was the
last time Bill Belichick coached at the collegiate level, because
(01:44:55):
he was a coordinator with the Giants, had to be coach.
It's got to be probably what eighty two, eighty three
he was with, like Youngstown or one of those weird
Division two we're talking. Could you imagine Bill Belichick trying
to sell a family at seventeen years of age.
Speaker 3 (01:45:12):
You do your Belichick. Let me be the kid knocking, knock, knock,
Come in.
Speaker 2 (01:45:17):
Who is it?
Speaker 12 (01:45:18):
Hi?
Speaker 2 (01:45:18):
It's Bill Coach Bellichick. Coach Belichick's in our home here
in Central Kentucky. This is quite an honor. Thanks for
coming over.
Speaker 3 (01:45:26):
Coach.
Speaker 2 (01:45:26):
I'm the greatest coach of all time and I want you.
I want your son to come play for me. Coach,
what are you offering in North Carolina? What separates you
from other places? Well, if you just like to, I
don't know if you see these six rings on my finger,
but that's basically what I'm bringing. But Coach, that was
in the NFL. That was what Tom Brady, who my
son doesn't know who Tom Brady is, but he's the
(01:45:48):
guy on fire. Your son knows who Tom Brady is.
Don't be ridiculous. It looks like he was at Wesleyan
in what year? Wait, hold on, never mind, No, it
looks like it's only been the NFL wesley This is
alma mater. So his he doesn't know how to he
doesn't know how to recruit a player. He'd better get
one hell of a staff behind him. And that's really
the case.
Speaker 3 (01:46:06):
So apparently North Carol is good.
Speaker 2 (01:46:08):
North Carolina has twenty four hours to whether or not
to accept the Foreigner Page Manual. And if you're North Carolina,
are you reading foreigner pages from Bill Belichick? Why don't
you just read those pages, take what he says, and
then move on and get a younger coach, do what
his bluebergs.
Speaker 3 (01:46:21):
So basically you're stealing his material.
Speaker 2 (01:46:23):
Yeah, copy and paste, baby, all right. NFL rewind is
up next twelve twenty nine, and believe it or not,
one fifty today. It's funny Connor never complained about these
things when he was handling. That's in your face.
Speaker 3 (01:46:37):
Oh you did it behind my back, Connor, that's not
very nice.
Speaker 2 (01:46:40):
It's a good poker face on. In the video we
have in mine, they went to Missouri, sweat troilser and
get you from the Music City Bowl America's Bowl Game
twelve twenty nine.
Speaker 3 (01:46:49):
Sports Talk seven.
Speaker 10 (01:46:50):
Ninety Welcome, good afternoon, the best sports luncheon h Town.
Speaker 2 (01:46:55):
That's really smart. He works hard, He has a good
grasp of players, been around the game.
Speaker 1 (01:47:01):
You love him.
Speaker 2 (01:47:02):
We love them so excited for the opportunity that Matt
has in front of them. For sure, this this the.
Speaker 1 (01:47:06):
Matt Thomas Show.
Speaker 2 (01:47:14):
By the way, a couple of quick shoutouts, one to
my good friend Grace and another friend of the show Jay.
They both have sent me photos of them enjoying a
McRib and if you're a member of the McRib family,
you were walking with open arms. Rib family. And for
(01:47:38):
Rick Donald's to not be giving me, basically gift cards
for America's Greatest sandwich is a crime because I continue
to give you for publicity and people were taking pictures
of them eating mcribs. Enchiladas. No, Tomaly's no brisket, No,
no brisket, yes McRib yes, yes, you're a sick human being.
You disgusted me. Yeah, Tomaly no enchilada no, No, where
(01:48:06):
we're gonna go get some good Tomaly's no or not? Well,
first of all, we gotta get some Korean barbecue. I
weave Krean barbecue. LA's got Krean barbecue every five seconds
somewhere too. Yeah, we're gonna go to a We're gonna
go to the We're going to Korea time. Apparently it
was a Korean barbecue. Massage parlor is also in the
same vicinities if you'd ever you ever had them massides
with the Krean barbecue before or after.
Speaker 3 (01:48:26):
Yes time.
Speaker 2 (01:48:27):
Now for the Ross's NFL rewe things that you made
out of messy may have missed you probably didn't miss him,
but we're rewinding. We're talking about it. We're talking some
NFL here with How about that performance from Josh Allen
on a Sunday Davis in the backfield to the left
of Allen and the shotgun. Here is the snap back
to pass looking to the right side for Hollands. He's
(01:48:49):
got it for the touchdown.
Speaker 22 (01:48:51):
What a beautiful throat by Josh.
Speaker 2 (01:48:53):
Allen for a twenty one yard touchdown.
Speaker 19 (01:48:56):
Hookup twit that barefoot wonder Mac Holland.
Speaker 2 (01:49:00):
The barefoot.
Speaker 24 (01:49:03):
That one.
Speaker 2 (01:49:03):
I like that onons three touchdowns passing at three touchdowns rushing,
the first quarterback to ever do that in NFL history,
but in a loss, Matt, who's your NFL MVP right now?
Is it Josh Allen? It's not, it's not Lamar Jackson
right now, he's playing incredibly. They have a horrible defense,
(01:49:26):
I think Allen and but of course they always go
with the better record. When Jared Goff sneak into this,
can he I'm just asking, what about Siquon Barkley?
Speaker 3 (01:49:36):
How many yards you need to be all time rushing later?
Speaker 2 (01:49:38):
Uh he's on pace right now to pass Dickerson, but
of course with an extra game, but Dickerson passed uh
oj with two extra games. Every Philadelphia receiver is throwing
Jalen Hurts under the bus. So if you are so
run heavy and he still can't be stopped, I'll go
Saquon Barkley, Jared Goff, Josh Allen one two three, Lamar
(01:50:00):
Jackson four. Oh Okay, I mean they're all really good players,
and we'll see how it shakes out. But the Bills
ten and three. Matt Stafford in the LA rams up
to seven and six after a very slow start of
the season. NFC an Arizona's fraudulent. I'm not buying them, Okay,
Sattle's winning that division. Eight and five right now, game
(01:50:22):
ahead of the Los Angeles Rams. Let's keep it going
with the voodoo magic of the Kansas City Chiefs continuing
all year long. The kickle cut from.
Speaker 23 (01:50:32):
Matthew right, this is for the division for the Chiefs,
because the dyke for the division for the Chiefs.
Speaker 2 (01:50:49):
My goodness, look at Tariko getting the alliteration in there,
a little trying to sell T shirts.
Speaker 9 (01:50:56):
All right.
Speaker 3 (01:50:57):
Let me ask you this, this goes beyond football.
Speaker 2 (01:50:59):
Okay. The doink, Yes, the sound of the doink mm
hm on a mon apia, as they say, one of
the three best sounds in sports. No, no, the doink
is not. I'm gonna open this up after NFL re one.
I want you all to think about this. The three
best sounds in profession in sports? Do you gonna give
(01:51:23):
you off the top of my head real quick? Save
it for the next time. Oh look, I'm gonna write
mine down as you finished the radio professional Okay, so
you're not gonna pay attention to me at all. That's fine. Well,
let's keep it going here on the NFL rewind with well,
this week's Texans opponent, how well are they playing that six.
Speaker 3 (01:51:41):
Twenty six through a tango violo auto shot back to throw?
Speaker 2 (01:51:45):
Which protector Thrownzo tutdown?
Speaker 1 (01:51:48):
Dolphins with John?
Speaker 2 (01:51:49):
Who's Smith?
Speaker 20 (01:51:51):
What a judges pro?
Speaker 4 (01:51:52):
John?
Speaker 20 (01:51:53):
Who Smith?
Speaker 14 (01:51:54):
Hold on to it?
Speaker 20 (01:51:56):
What a go by?
Speaker 1 (01:51:56):
Two up?
Speaker 24 (01:51:58):
Good night?
Speaker 2 (01:51:59):
Couplin's got four out of five wins for the Miami Dolphins,
but some of those coming against the Jets, Raiders, Patriots.
How are we feeling Texans taken on the Dolphins this weekend?
I'm gonna tell you that Sunday's game is gonna be
a shootout. Somebody has to score thirty to win the game.
If I give you that, well then it's gonna be
(01:52:21):
the Dolphins. I'll trust the Dolphins is score for thirty
more than the Texans. Okay, now, but I think that
Texans defense is gonna be good. I'm gonna stay up
my statement. The team that wins this game needs to
score thirty points. Okay, I mean that Texans can't do it. Okay,
(01:52:46):
That's what I'm gonna go with. And I'm not gonna
make prediction yet. It's too early in a week. Okay, Well,
let's keep it going on the rewind where we say,
how about them Cowboys? All right, here's the punt by
Ryan Raco Conic ball is blocked. Oh, the Bengals are
gonna have the ball. No, I can't touch it, flung
me on the line of scrimmage and the Bengals, you're
(01:53:08):
gonna have it. At the forty five.
Speaker 5 (01:53:11):
Cowboys, not paying attention to the rules, they give up
the ball there as the deflected punt goes past the
line of scrimmage, they touch it, don't receive it, and
that becomes a muff Bengals ball.
Speaker 2 (01:53:26):
And then Jabbar Chase gets a long touchdown from Joe
Burrow as the Cincinnati Bengals are also not completely dead yet.
Speaker 3 (01:53:33):
Yeah, but I had to win the AFC this year,
and I feel live.
Speaker 2 (01:53:38):
I don't think they're gonna win the AFC.
Speaker 3 (01:53:40):
The Clippers, Clippers. The Chargers need to can completely fall
off the map. They basically have to. Baltimore have to
lose a bunch of games.
Speaker 2 (01:53:46):
Okay, Baltimore remaining schedule though, Go Titans at the Titans,
win home for the Browns, win home for the Broncos.
Coin flip at the Steelers, who might have I've already
clinched a division. It might not be alive for the
first seed. They're going three and one which you put
them at. What record that would put them at eight
(01:54:06):
and nine? No, not the Ravens. I'm talking about the
the Bengals. Was a Bengals scable juice game. Sorry, yeah,
we're talking about Okay, we're talking bingles. Okay, say them again.
This is the Bengals. Now, Titans win, home for the
Browns win home for the Broncos. Coin flip, coin flip
(01:54:28):
at the Steelers, who may have nothing to play for.
Three and one puts them in eight nine. That's not enough. Yeah,
they're gonna have to win out basically at this point
that it's go all four and oh and that would
it still would have to probably gets a little bit
of help. I mean, you start off the season one
in four, you're gonna run into this type of hole.
And that's where the Bengals are right now in the AFC. Matthews,
(01:54:49):
when you run to the Cults remaining three games, me, yes,
I can hold on. Let me pull it up. I
got it right here. I'm trying to think if the
Texans go one and three the rest of the way
at the Broncos, Indianapolis at Denver loss, home for the
Titans win at the Giants win home for the I
(01:55:09):
mean home for the Jaguars three and one. That's ninety eight.
Speaker 3 (01:55:16):
Now the Texans would have to win nine, so the
magic numbers at two.
Speaker 2 (01:55:23):
Yeah, they can do it. The Texans are so they
fly South champions, I would agree. Does the nine and
eight team in the AFC get in the playoffs?
Speaker 20 (01:55:31):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:55:32):
Probably a multiple set of tie breakers would have to
make play there. Uh, I would think so.
Speaker 7 (01:55:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:55:38):
Ravens have eight wins as far as wild cards right now,
as do the Chargers and Broncos. So maybe not.
Speaker 3 (01:55:44):
Maybe you have to get to ten.
Speaker 2 (01:55:45):
Huh. Yeah, Okay, there you go, And that, my friends,
is the NFL rate wine. You're welcome with fifth and
Beethoven in the background. Oh, such a good song. Watching
people dance of this on Soul Train is one of
the delights on YouTube. Okay, I can watch Soul Train
YouTube clips for a long time. I assume they were
(01:56:06):
doing bumps of cocaine live on Soul Train during this song.
You know, they were doing they had peace, they had love,
and they had so that's such an old reference. But
if you just loved the show like I did, uh huh.
If you're listening to this in a nursing home. You're
appreciating that a nursing home maybe a little older. Do
we have any Soul Trained fans listen to the show
right now? Somebody can one person call me and say, Matt,
(01:56:28):
I used to watch Soul Train. Man, you don't. We're
gonna come back and pay one of the Soul Trained
theme songs and we're gonna throw open up a question
to the audience the three best sounds in sports.
Speaker 3 (01:56:43):
I believe the doink is one of the best three.
You're you're fighting me on this.
Speaker 2 (01:56:47):
We'll have more details in this shortly seven one three
two one two five Sevenatti seven one three two one
two five Sevenatti twelve forty four. This is the Matt
Thomas shold Ross and we appreciate it listening to Sports
Talk seven NINTI.
Speaker 1 (01:57:01):
This is an agreement sailing Green sailing for three born
sit down.
Speaker 2 (01:57:07):
This is the Matt Thomas show a Sports Talk seven
ninety for your rockets and.
Speaker 1 (01:57:13):
Now here's your own host Cordel.
Speaker 20 (01:57:16):
Yeah, any down ruck with Lord. I can guarantee you
let joy the ride, especially if you like your soul
LCE code, because none other than the iceman himself is
gonna be looking you right dead in your eyes. After
this very important message.
Speaker 2 (01:57:41):
Hope to be dancing the clubs in Vegas the song
when's the last time he walked into a club? Club?
Club club? I mean bars, not a strip club, matt
You tell about bars or clubs, not the booby trap
in Miami. No, like a club club. People are clubbing,
buying bottles. Oh god, it's been decades. Bars frequently. Not
(01:58:10):
that I'm an alcoholic, but I'm saying I just don't
people like, let's go up a bear after an event
or something.
Speaker 3 (01:58:15):
Yeah, all the time.
Speaker 2 (01:58:16):
Okay, But club club like you are dressing up, Yes,
and like when the girls get in free, they get
their booze, taking care of the guys that gotta pay
fifty dollars to get in and twenty five dollars for drinks. Yes, no,
it's been decades. I should have put up a seventies club.
Call it, Matt Thomas. Is nice and easy, uh huh.
And you get free icy hot when you get in there.
(01:58:37):
Good defibrillators at every corner. That's not nice, all right?
The three best sounds in sports? You ready go ahead, Matthew.
The number one is the swish of a basketball goal
when we are on the same page. That is my
number one as well. Number two.
Speaker 3 (01:58:52):
The sound of a block punt. Oh, I love it,
you're a weirdo.
Speaker 2 (01:58:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:58:58):
And number yeah and number three a doink off the goalpost.
Speaker 2 (01:59:03):
Are you serious? Yeah, let's go with that. Over the
crack of a bat on a on a home run, Oh,
to me, it's one, two, whichever order you want to
put them. The crack of the bat. You can hear
a big crack of the bat and it's like a
pop fly. So maybe that that's right, because that's why
swish is number one to me, because a swish means
(01:59:23):
a made bucket. Yeah, it is in there all right.
Oh man, block punt does sound good though, it just
does by doink. I got another one for one. Swish
two crack of the bat, three block punt. I got
(01:59:44):
another one for you the same sport. A pop of
the glove on like one hundred mile an hour. Stress. Nah,
somebody says the glove, somebody says the ball, the golf
ball going into the cup. That's decent. That's not bad.
If I had a four spot of a in there,
you go, what about it? Just a just a big
hit and foot a big bone crunching hit. It's a
(02:00:05):
flag right after that. No, we're not doing that now
now if we're in the sixth grade, we're watching it. Yeah,
they can be legal these days. You gotta leave with
the shoulder. I'm not gonna put it in my top five. Okay,
I'm going swishing a three. Yeah, swishing a three is
number one. Crack of a bat. That's good, that's really
good and big hitting football slighthead of You don't want
(02:00:30):
to block punt now, but oh man, it's block. I'm
calling block punt. He's gonna take it back to the
house for a touchdown. The Cowboys have touched it.
Speaker 3 (02:00:41):
And give it the ball back, all right, got throwing in?
Speaker 4 (02:00:44):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (02:00:44):
Absolutely? Uh when a hard shot the puck hits off
the post, oh clanks in Yeah, like like a bar downshop.
I thought you were gonna say, the crowd doing the
wave around a stadium. I got offer tickets to see
the Wild against the uh Mighty Ducks. Should I have
gone to the game? Why didn't you? Because it was
an Anaheim too. Is it gonna cost you anything? No,
(02:01:06):
but I would cost me a big uber ride down
to Anaheim. They probably got a shuttle bus Anaheim or
something from Beverly Hills. No, they don't shuttle, but they
don't have bus aroudes from Beverly Hills to Anaheim. Sorry
us from Beverly. I bet i'd find one. You cannot
find a bus from Beverly Hills Anaheim. The what it's
called uber trains. It's not gonna hurt you. I don't
(02:01:27):
want to spend seven hours getting down there. It's forty
from there. There's four ways to travel via train. See
all options? Too many options? You didn't was that? Would
that have been a good matchup to go see? Uh?
The wild are really good and the ducks are really bad. Okay,
so it's the subway two hour ride ten bucks. You
(02:01:47):
only spend two hours each direction going to see the
lousy ducks play in. Are they bad? Yeah? You just
even listen. You just said the bucks stuck. You said
the mighty ducks. But they're good, Okay, they're just right.
They're just average. Okay, I didn't I didn't know the
mediocre do. And they don't call themselves money ducks and mother,
they think they're just Anaheim ducks. Right, Yes, that's ridiculous.
(02:02:08):
You gotta be mighty. Hey, get you on the subway.
It'll be fine.
Speaker 3 (02:02:12):
There's no subways in Los Angeles. Yes there is, no,
there's not.
Speaker 4 (02:02:16):
No.
Speaker 2 (02:02:16):
I mean it's not a blow ground. Well that's what
subway means train. Okay, they can send the train. Subway
would mean underground. Okay, you can you beit a train,
you know. But my phosophy is, once you get into
Beverly Hills, you don't want to leave Beverly Hills. Okay,
well then you didn't. It's the metro rail whatever you
want to call it. Well, it's just say subway. ALA's
(02:02:37):
calling it a subway. I'm calling it a subway. Okay,
So tell me again your your hockey hit is what
now when the shot hits the post? Chink? Oh? How
about this? For to look around and you're like, uh,
did they score or not? Oh, the players are celebrating.
I guess they scored.
Speaker 3 (02:02:50):
Let me ask you this, what's better to you an
NFL doink or a soccer doink?
Speaker 4 (02:02:55):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (02:02:56):
Yeah, I'm throwing an intern for you. I'm throwing that
in the mix. Huh how about that you forgot about
I forgot the back of the net. Oh man, No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no crossbar hit back no, no, no, I don't like that.
I'm not talking about I'm talking about the back of
the net bulging off of a crazy strike in soccer.
That's gonna be top five. You can't even hear that
on TV, though, yes you can. I totally agree with
(02:03:17):
microphones back there. You're wrong.
Speaker 3 (02:03:19):
You hear the net. I've never heard the head.
Speaker 2 (02:03:21):
If it's never once. If it's a hard shot, well
you're not watching enough games, yeah, or not. If it's
a hard shot, yeah, If it's trickling into the post,
it's not gonna bolt the net. But yeah, like a
like a top shelf. Yeah, absolutely, there's a sound. Have
you heard the sound of a home run ball off
a foul pole? How's that sound? I don't want to
We don't even talk about that, Howie Kendrick. That's true. Okay,
(02:03:48):
just put this back up. Put the song back up.
Make us feel better. It does. I'm telling there are
people on this town dancing right now of this song
going God. I'm listening to great sports talk animate get
my jam going perfect. It's the Thomas Show with Ross
is all about Okay, you can kind of rock to
this one. Connor and you go to the club. Oh, yeah,
I need to. I don't think this comes on in
the club. He can kind of rug to it though.
(02:04:10):
Well he can kind of ruck to anything. Yeah, that's
how he rolls, brush and done. Oh how's your two
step in game? Uh? I did go country line dancing
not too long ago, and I need some work. Thank
used for me a show on the National Network that
would be on like at three o'clock every day that
you could go home and watch people line dance. And
(02:04:33):
I'm gonna tell you a great way to meet ladies. Now,
I know you're not in the market right now, Connor,
you are no longer testing for AD Go to two
step in dance class, you'll be swimming, that's what I
that's what I did, oh back in the day. Or
it's where you met this girl. No, I didn't be
heard there. I was with somebody else. And by the way,
going to weddings is still a strong game. Correct, Well, well, yeah,
(02:04:53):
but walt into a wedd You can't just sign up
for a wedding. You can sign up for a dance class. Yeah,
but you can get yourself invited to whate and find
out how many girls are there they're looking for all
to be getting married that you know, we can always
ask her. There's a girl on Twitter. It's always like
I'm going like five weddings in two months. Ask her out,
say I'm going. You need to date.
Speaker 3 (02:05:12):
Okay, I've crashed a wedding.
Speaker 2 (02:05:18):
You have it, No, I have not.
Speaker 3 (02:05:20):
You have to do it sometime in your life. It
was so much fun.
Speaker 2 (02:05:23):
Sorry this people. These people are celebrating the most happy
day of their lives and I'm going to go ruin
their party by I inccentuated and nobody knows who I am.
I was eighteen years old. I helped the party out.
I would never dancel the bride's mother. You'd love to
be that selfish, Oh met selfish. And if you're going
for the food and free booze, that's more selfish. You're
just going to just say hello, off the congratulations booze,
(02:05:43):
didn't you? I did it before it did?
Speaker 3 (02:05:46):
I had before I had to sprite tequila slammers. Not
a great combination, by the way.
Speaker 2 (02:05:51):
Oh that is you take sprite, you take tequila, and
you close up the cup and you oh, you were
eighteen years That is an eighteen year old drink. That
has an eighteen year old drink. You still have eighteen
year old drinks and you're stop it not eighteen all right?
What is believing or not today? I have no clue.
All right.
Speaker 3 (02:06:07):
That's the setup for the final hour of the Matt
Tamas Show. At Ross.
Speaker 2 (02:06:11):
We're gonna hear some comments from those speaking at the
Winter meetings, and I don't like the vibe from the
local nine twelve fifty seven Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (02:06:22):
Lunchtimers. This is the Matt Thomas Show one.
Speaker 2 (02:06:27):
Oh one on Sports Talk seven ninety. It is the
Matt Thomas Show with Ross. We've got one hour left
to go. We would like for you guys to contribute
and labies as well. At seven one three two one
two five seven ninety seven one three two one two
five seven ninety Uh. We have tomorrow the Rockets and
the Warriors playing in the knockout game of the NBA
(02:06:48):
n Season Tournament. At the winner of that game goes
how about this. The winner of the game, Rossie, goes
to Vegas to play the winner of Dallas, Oklahoma City.
The loser of the Rockets Warriors goes to either Oklahoma
City or Dallas for a Sunday game. That'sn't necessarily penthouse
to outhouse. But it's Oklahoma City. That's a pretty firm drop.
(02:07:11):
It's not that Okama City's not a fine town. Dallas.
I'm sorry, Dallas, you suck.
Speaker 24 (02:07:18):
What.
Speaker 2 (02:07:19):
There are lots of doubts. Parts of Dallas. I like, Okay,
uptown fantastic. Let me guess there. It's a nice part.
And there is a bunch of skinks with a lot
of plastic surgery walking around. That's part of it. Sure,
I don't think it's all of it, but I'm just saying,
(02:07:42):
hang out with me in uptown Dallas and you'll be like, damn,
it's a nice part of towns throwing it out there.
I don't think you're word for okay, But hopefully I
want to worry about that because they've got like Gucci stores,
and well they have very physically fit women that run
up and down the street and get their exercise. The
crisp air of the Dallas Fort Worth Metrics care about
that because it's a beautiful part of town. Beautiful people
maybeautiful people on River Oaks. Okay, here'saly people walk bumping
(02:08:04):
around on rivers. Do you yeah, you do? Really absolutely,
we're gonna be found anywhere, all right, I guess you.
Speaker 3 (02:08:11):
All right, that's one going on.
Speaker 2 (02:08:13):
Number two of the Winter Meetings are happening where I
don't even know where the Winter Meetings are. I guess
I should know that. What city are they in? I
don't know.
Speaker 12 (02:08:22):
How do we not know this?
Speaker 2 (02:08:23):
This is terrible? And let's just guess they're gonna be
in Scottsdale. No, I'm gonna say Nashville. Let's take a
look here. Where are the Winter Meetings? Yeah, every story
doesn't have it, I mean, and then a secret location?
I don't think so? Is it Dallas? Dallas? They chose
that's nothing. We don't get Winter meetings here? Why does
(02:08:43):
Dallas get everything? They get a TV show? First of all,
here's here's what. I'm not trying to be jealous of Dallas,
but I'm frankly meaning jealous of Dallas's I think they
get part of it. They get the TV show. Yes,
they have the National Championship Game on a regular basis.
I think if you go with the fight between Jake
poul and Mike Tyson, that's true.
Speaker 3 (02:09:02):
Well Arlington did, but that's essentially the same thing.
Speaker 2 (02:09:06):
That's what the College Football Committee spent days in a
hotel suite arguing, I think if you go across the
country and ask people to name a city in Texas,
they will probably name Dallas before Houston.
Speaker 3 (02:09:18):
I would agree, Sorry, I would agree with that.
Speaker 2 (02:09:21):
I think Dallas gets a reputation being a little more
cosmopolitan than Houston is, but certainly more pretentious than Houston.
I have a bigger airport, easier to get to, so
I mean it's it's American. It's got a huge hub there,
But the people are all pretentious douches, and the food
and the people aren't as good. Food is not nearly
as good in Dallas. I will guarantee you on that
(02:09:45):
they don't have like that sounds like they got rolling
hills or stuff. It's not. It's a concrete jungle. It
gets icier. And yeah, me and Chaz have gotten caught
on an ice store one time. Who's Chazz Charlie PELI
as far as you forgot already, I have that all right.
Unfortunately I was out of the country when Texas beat Syracuse.
I forgot to text him. Uh what else?
Speaker 4 (02:10:06):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (02:10:06):
They get their bowl game gets is way more recognized
than ours. Of course, it's got a legacy. Yeah. What
about the Texas Bowl for all of Texas LSU and
who is it again, Baylor? Baylor? That should be well attended.
Gordon's gonna go right. I've been smashed hammered at a
Texas Bowl. It's a good time. Okay, what else multiples,
(02:10:28):
let's see. Yeah, I think AT and T Stadium just
gets a lot. No one's worried about the future of
AT and T Stadium. That that bad boy is just
built for long term success. Well, I mean when they
try to open the roof that they people nearly die though,
that's true.
Speaker 3 (02:10:43):
We just had panels to just drop period off of hurricanes.
Speaker 2 (02:10:46):
Yeah, all right. Seven one three two one two five
seven Aunty seven one three two one two five seven Ounty.
We're gonna let you hear. I think some would you
call it encouraging comments or non encouraging comments out of
uh national media and also the local folks. Seven one
three two one two five seven Ony Dana Brown did
(02:11:06):
speak yesterday to I believe MLB network and also talk
to the general media as well. We'll find out exactly
what's going on with that. Let's talk to line number
two and say hello to Jonathan on Sports Talk seveny
Jonathan at one oh six, Good afternoon.
Speaker 4 (02:11:20):
What's up for the man? How's it going.
Speaker 3 (02:11:22):
We're amazing, Thank you for calling.
Speaker 4 (02:11:25):
So I called Gosh.
Speaker 24 (02:11:26):
I think it was like last week, maybe the week before.
I was doing my HOA runs and we were doing
your shut your bum ass up, yes, because I.
Speaker 14 (02:11:37):
Was having to do a drive and you would put
for the question of what does a typical HOA person make,
then HOA management company make.
Speaker 4 (02:11:50):
We make decent money. But the problem is is we
do the devil's work. I mean, I don't even tell
people what I do. I just people are like, what
do you do for a living?
Speaker 24 (02:12:00):
I'm in property management.
Speaker 2 (02:12:02):
I love it, very, very.
Speaker 24 (02:12:05):
It is the most hated job in the entire world.
But we make good money to compensate for it. Thanks
to all of y'all paying for getting your fences replaced
and having to pay to get all all your your
acc requests done. That is what I do, but I
wanted to put forth. You know, I've taken several trips
(02:12:28):
to Dallas.
Speaker 4 (02:12:29):
I have good buddies that live in Dallas.
Speaker 24 (02:12:32):
The one thing I noticed about Dallas compared to Houston,
and maybe this is the obvious is they're so snobby.
They're just they think that they're so much better that
I mean that they're not even really a part of Texas.
Speaker 1 (02:12:46):
And maybe the old.
Speaker 14 (02:12:48):
Show Dallas had to do with some of that to kind.
Speaker 24 (02:12:51):
Of spark it off. But I just feel like every
time I go to Dallas, I look at these people
and I'm like, you guys, aren't Texans. Our food is
way better here, Honestly, our sports are way better here.
You had the Rangers at one and then now they suck.
I just I feel like Dallas is like kind of
(02:13:12):
a wanna be Houston.
Speaker 14 (02:13:15):
But that's just me.
Speaker 4 (02:13:16):
I feel like every time I think.
Speaker 24 (02:13:19):
Of Dallas, I cringe. We're driving to the family and
I we're taking a trip up to Kansas and we're
driving and I'm kind of the Clark w Griswold. We're
gonna stop and go see the biggest ball of twine.
Speaker 14 (02:13:33):
That's just I get a kick out of that kind
of stuff.
Speaker 4 (02:13:36):
But I'm planning on like driving through Dallas and not
stopping at all.
Speaker 14 (02:13:41):
I have no desire.
Speaker 24 (02:13:43):
I love their barbecue, but you know what, we have
better barbecue here, all right.
Speaker 2 (02:13:48):
Thank you very much? Or appreciate Johnson. The man has
disdained for Dallas. I got news for you, Houston, and
I think you know this. Nobody in Dallas wants to
be Houston, and that's fine by me. But they're they're not.
There's zero envy of Houston, Texas because they're pretentious, correct,
And that's what pretentious people do. They think their their
world's the best. Then that's what they think in Dallas. Yeah,
(02:14:11):
I mean, I've worked with you. You're fairly pretentious. You
never want to be me. Excuse me, I'm down to earth.
Out of the two of us, at least they call
me mister down to Earth. They go you high horse man.
They don't, they don't. They call me mister practical, mister,
a man about time, Diamond, Matt Fancy, and Matt high
(02:14:31):
horse Matt. It's fine, but doubt there's nobody in Dallas
that says, man, Houston's got it better. Okay, that's fine,
let me work them. But what success lean goes to Dallas? Well,
just the Cowboys. Well, the Rangers won the World Series
two years ago. One two stars s m u is
playing in the football playoffs. Stop nobody cares about its
(02:14:52):
southern millionaires university over there.
Speaker 3 (02:14:54):
You better they they might be the most successful.
Speaker 2 (02:14:58):
They may be. I got Texas and A and M
is one two with nil money. I think text texts
probably three better. Sm is gonna be four ROSSI SMU
ain't going anywhere. They're gonna have a lot of cash.
All this come on, now, big, let's go. We don't
have that kind of cash. We just don't. I heard
they are resources close to well, everyone are saying they're
(02:15:19):
going after Connor Wigman. Sounds good. That an improvement.
Speaker 3 (02:15:23):
I've not talked to his dad in twenty in thirty
five years.
Speaker 2 (02:15:26):
Well, now's at the time. You think I should make
him an offer he can't refuse. Telling that to get
the the Connor Wegman Show sponsored.
Speaker 3 (02:15:34):
Weekly with Weekly with Wegs. I like that, okay, And
that's another one I could sit out.
Speaker 12 (02:15:39):
I like this.
Speaker 2 (02:15:40):
Here is gonna sit segments out Coach Willie Fritz on
the show. You got this one, Matt, Let's see you later.
Gonna go right, believe it. You don't ever come out
with Rono anymore. I mean I could, but you you
just do. You just do such a great job, Matt.
I well, thank you very much. Thank you very much.
I appreciate that.
Speaker 4 (02:15:56):
All right.
Speaker 2 (02:15:57):

believe it's in there, just to balance it out.
Speaker 4 (02:16:18):
Well.
Speaker 2 (02:16:18):
By the way, do you see that the Mets are
giving him a suite every year? He's gonna go in
there instead of the duckout. No for his family and friends.
Speaker 3 (02:16:26):
Okay, that's good. No, he gonna have a day off.
You know, I don't feel like being there.
Speaker 2 (02:16:31):
Let's you know, he's gonna crush some nachos in the suite.
Speaker 3 (02:16:33):
Yeah, like that.
Speaker 2 (02:16:34):
Strangest thing happened to me my first year doing the
Rockets game a friend of mine who didn't understand the
comment the being the voice the team means you're the
voice of every game. Yeah, he said, can you kick it?
A day.
Speaker 3 (02:16:44):
Often come sit with us in the stands. No, I can't, No,
it's not possible.

Speaker 2 (02:17:59):
Okay, on Sports Talk Sevenati, all right, I'm gonna play
some sound from you from the winter ratings in Dallas,
and you're gonna tell me how you're feeling, because I
ain't feeling great. Here is Dana Brown on remaining in
(02:18:22):
the Alex Brigman stays in Houston sweepstakes.
Speaker 8 (02:18:26):
Yeah, a combination of, you know, all of the above.
I had mentioned in the past that you know, we
we won't take anything off the table in terms of
improving this club, and if we get the opportunity to,
you know, trade, if we feel like this is a
good fit, we'll make that trade. You know, whatever the
opportunity is, well, we'll definitely do it if it means
(02:18:49):
improving the club.
Speaker 3 (02:18:50):
That wasn't the comment on that. I'm pragmant.
Speaker 2 (02:18:53):
I don't think that was the That was on maybe
moving Tucker or Albert not avers, but from Burbldez. Yeah,
the cuts that we have don't have much Bregman talk. Unfortunately,
for whatever reason, he was just saying he's not taking
anything off the table, whether he's looking to do sign
free agents or trades. He think he has that quote
(02:19:13):
memorize in his in his memory banks, Yeah, I think so.
Dana Brown's it'll be coolf he walked in a room
took his right fist it. I will do whatever it
takes to make sure Alex Spraggman is still a Houston astro.
And then he would still have been and what they
would have signed him in the off season, I mean
the in spring training. So you're saying what I just
(02:19:34):
said is not going to happen. No, No, here's John Paul.
Is it John Paul Morosy or John Morosi? I think
they get rid of the John Paul. I think, yeah, dude,
John Paul or JP. Remember he's he's not had a
great year when it comes to his didn't he get
dismissed by some people for some for for some.
Speaker 3 (02:19:53):
Bad Yeah, he's he's he took over for Bob Knight.
Speaker 2 (02:19:56):
Gill is the worst national guy. Yeah, I don't believe
what he says here though, not go ahead, but let me.
Speaker 19 (02:20:03):
Tell you why there's at least some chance of a
trade involving Kyle Tucker. The overall free agent prices right
now are quite high, and the number of teams with
a great capacity to add high dollar free agents is
relatively small, which means trade candidates like Tucker, even though
(02:20:23):
entering his final year before free agency, are more valuable
than ever. And you just saw on that board a
moment ago where Kyle Tucker stands among the preeminent sluggers
in baseball. He actually had a higher adjusted OPS than
Juan Soto in twenty twenty four. Now he played in
half as many games. To be clear, he was injured.
(02:20:45):
He had the stress reaction in his shin, so that
is the health piece of it, and how many games
he'll play is a real consideration here.
Speaker 2 (02:20:52):
He is not Juan Soto.
Speaker 19 (02:20:53):
But when you think about the Yankees' interest in Tucker,
he could help them replace the production they lost in
Juan Soto. And for that reason, and Dana Brown acknowledging
yesterday that he'll listen on everybody, including Tucker and from
Bervaldez definitely got the attention lord of a lot of
people in this lobby.
Speaker 2 (02:21:13):
Did you hear the back third of that? Could the
Yankees be calling the Astros for Kyle Tucker? ROSSI? If
that happens, it'll be World War three in this town.
If they signed Bregman and Trader for Kyle Tucker. Training Tucker,
frankly probably is the smart decision to make. You can't
(02:21:36):
trade him to New York. You probably prefer to non
trade him. You can't do what I thing in the
American League. Oh yeah, yeah, that's right. That's right. You
can swallow it if it's a Cleveland. If you were
making a move and sending him to say Kansas City
(02:21:59):
or Detroit, you could somewhat live with that. ROSSI you can.
There's no way, Dan, There's no way, Dana Brown, there's
no way Jim Crane's allowing Kyle Tucker to be trade
of the Yankees. I wouldn't think so, I would I
that would be pretty shocking. I think you would try
to stay away from the American League at all costs,
and then stay away from actual American League contenders. But also,
(02:22:21):
I mean, who else is gonna want to trade for
him for one year save for contenders. Okay, let's role
play this again, because we do a lot of them
on the show. Okay, Dana Brown, Dana, you're telling me
the best for you. I'm gonna let you be Dana okay,
but who are you just general guy Jim Crane or
general guy Okay, a reporter Okay, I'm Chandler mctagger. Okay,
(02:22:45):
I like that.
Speaker 3 (02:22:46):
I'd rather be Brian Rome. Okay, become me, Brian Rum.
Speaker 2 (02:22:50):
It's fine. How in the world can you make a
move and send your best player, your second best player,
everyday player to a team that is legitimately going to
go it was coming after you to win the America
League pennant for like seven or eight years. Well, it's
obviously not an ideal situation to have to trade Kyle
Tucker anywhere, but we also had to look objectively at
(02:23:10):
the best offer and figure that even though it's going
to be one year with the Yankees and we're taking
a step back, that he's going to hopefully sign long
term somewhere else, and then then in the meantime, within
a couple of years, with these prospects that we're getting
back with some guys that we love, that we'll be
back contending as soon as possible. But it's the Yankees.
Speaker 3 (02:23:30):
Well, look, the Yankees have a lot of history.
Speaker 2 (02:23:32):
They made us the best offer, and in my job
as general manager is to regardless of how we feel
about certain things. And the rival with the Yankees over
the years is to go with getting the absolute best
package back for Kyle Tucker that we could, and that's
what the Yankees presient. All Right's let me ask you
this now off character here. Okay, does Kyle Tucker go
(02:23:54):
to the Yankees for one year? How long was jan
subto a New York Yankee? One year? Oh?
Speaker 3 (02:24:00):
A little bit of precedent doing that.
Speaker 2 (02:24:01):
It was one year? Right, Yeah, gets traded from San
Diego to the Yankees, and then he leaves. Those prospects
that the Padres got back, I can't remember all that.
They were like impact players. They were helping the Padres team.
And here's the strange part of it. You can't go
(02:24:23):
to Kyle Tucker and say, Kyle, we want to move
you to a particular team. He can't say, well, all right,
if you send me to the Yankees, I'll sign a
long term deal with them, because guess what the Astros
would do. The Astros would tell the Yankees, he's going
to sign with you, don't worry about it. And then
that means the Yankees would then low ball and offer
(02:24:45):
to him because they already knew that the Astros told
him the Yankees were gonna that Kyle Tucker wanted to
be a Yankee. If you're Kyle Tucker, you can't say
a word about where you want to go. You want
as many bitters as possible, knowing that at the end
of the day it's gonna be the Yankees, the Dodgers,
(02:25:05):
the Cubs, the Red Sox. They're really really rich to
you early anyways. But if you're the Yankees, are you
you can't do two straight years of superstar outfielder and
not getting both of them to stay right. Probably not.
According to Fangrafts, Number nine farm system is I'm sorry me.
Number eight is the Yankees. Don't ask me where he is.
Speaker 3 (02:25:27):
Let me ask you the Astra. I'm gonna ask you
because I know the answer, the Astra.
Speaker 2 (02:25:31):
The Yankees spend more money than God, and they have
the eighth best farm system in baseball. Yeah, it's pretty good.
Dodgers or second, Yeah, but Houston listened to me very carefully.
(02:25:52):
Please allow Dana to move Kyle Tucker and yourn and
Alvariz term pain for long term pleasure. ROSSI mm hmm, okay,
I'm with you. You're with me on this you're not
arguing Astros are twenty ninth on this list? Oh look,
(02:26:12):
how many years are we gonna be bottom five in
minor league? I mean it feels like for like seven
or eight is like, frankly since Luneau left. Yeah, I mean,
when are we going to get into the twenties, like
the early twenties, the low twenties. I mean I would
die to be the nineteenth best minor league system in baseball.
I feel like in the last seven or eight years,
(02:26:34):
it's been twenty seven, twenty eight, twenty nine or thirty.
Speaker 20 (02:26:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:26:40):
The post deadline?
Speaker 2 (02:26:41):
Oh where are the Astros on this one? Oh they're
They're thirtieth in what post deadline ranking by amob dot com.
God dang it, mctagger. Let that happen as Brian mctagger's fault.
I can't. I can't think of anybody else to blame. Well,
let me ask you this. It's not because here's the
reality is. You know why it's post thirtieth because guess
(02:27:04):
what they did. Jake bloss was considered a prospect. You
moved him. Mm hmmm.
Speaker 7 (02:27:10):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (02:27:11):
Joey lit Prafito was considered a prospect, and you moved him.
Speaker 2 (02:27:16):
You moved to Zach Desenzo into the major league lineup,
Shay Shay Wickham, who wasn't really considered a high end prospect,
but you moved him. You've taken four players from your
minor league system and ones what two of them are
were different teams, and two of them are on the
major league level. No one of your system can't get
out of the low the bottom five. You're using them
(02:27:38):
all the time. But I'm telling you, if the Dodgers
and the Yankees have top ten minor league programs or deaths,
should be a massive alarm to the Astros.
Speaker 3 (02:27:50):
Was an organization.
Speaker 2 (02:27:53):
That those two teams that spend religiously and don't care
about what's left have high end prospers they can give
to other teams. So you know what, I'm changing my
tune ross The Yankees want to trade for Kyle Tucker
on a one year grab with no guarantee that Kyle
would resign with the Yankees. Bite the bullet, bite the bullet,
(02:28:13):
take the prospects, and bow the hell on him for
one year, and as Mike is pointing out on Twitter,
also traded away a couple of top one hundred guys
for justin Verlanders. Oh that's right. Well, the JV sweepstakes
have kind of cooled. I have not heard word one
of them. Onto that on the out of the winter meetings. Yes,
we're going all right, one twenty eight Sports Talk seven
ninety It is the Matt Thomas Show. Seven one three

this is what I am real Pale Texas.
Speaker 1 (02:30:07):
Talk continues on the Matt Thomas Show.
Speaker 2 (02:30:10):

Speaker 19 (02:30:19):

Speaker 2 (02:30:19):

of those three artists do I have on my iPhone?

(02:30:43):
Hot in here?
Speaker 7 (02:30:43):
You like that song?
Speaker 20 (02:30:45):
Bros?
Speaker 2 (02:30:45):
What you think? Probably not? That'd be zero? What about
matter up jam?
Speaker 3 (02:30:53):
That's actually not a bad song. I don't want to
that one.
Speaker 2 (02:30:56):
Uh, there's no way you got air Force one's up
in that bad boy? Uh done? You don't know it.
I he uses the Jefferson's team in it. That's what
I'm saying.
Speaker 4 (02:31:04):
I know.
Speaker 2 (02:31:05):
Okay, So better up. Fish don't fry in the grill. Yeah, beans,
don't burn on the beans on, burn on the grill. Yeah,
batter ups good. So I'm gonna play some batter up
coming back now. We also got tickets to go see
the Transhipper in orchestra. Yeah, cares about the thing. I
would like to see Nelly with the trans Yeah, a
good show. Let's talk to the people here. Doug whether
(02:31:25):
us at one thirty five on seven on High doug.
Speaker 6 (02:31:29):
Hey, Matt Coruger Brethren red a small bone to picked
you and I love you and Ross, Oh.
Speaker 2 (02:31:36):
Oh what we do wrong? I can't have you mad
at me?
Speaker 6 (02:31:39):
I called you guys before the Kokuchie trade, and I
said it would be prudent for the Astros to trade
Kyle Tucker. I said, grandly, he's a great player, but
you're not going to be able to resign him, and
his past performance the last two playoffs was dismal at best,
and we.
Speaker 4 (02:31:54):
Argued about that.
Speaker 6 (02:31:54):
You guys both said, hey, I was crazy, b you
need him to get to the World Series. Well, he
went hitless in the playoffs against the Tigers, and now
all of a sudden, you guys are advocator, are actually
agreeing that we should trade him. So I just wanted
to put that out there.
Speaker 2 (02:32:10):
Okay, let me let me hold on, hold on, hold on,
hold on, hold on. Here's where I think there's a
little bit of a failure to communicate, Doug. I've been
saying for two years that Kyle Tucker was not going
to resign with the Astros.
Speaker 6 (02:32:24):
Correct, I agree.
Speaker 2 (02:32:26):
So I don't.
Speaker 3 (02:32:27):
Remember saying let's wait it out and CV changes his mind.
Speaker 6 (02:32:33):
Well, what happened was after I called, then you had
some guy j Rome wanted to be who has no
idea where South Tidre Island is basically said I was insane.
For suggesting that we even trade Tucker. Tucker's a great player,
but like we both said, they're not going to resign
them and I'd be curious to see what they can
get for him now, which you could have got a
heck of a lot more before the Kakuchie trade. But
(02:32:54):
I agree with you, and Ross was my initial statement, Well,
I think you have to trade him.
Speaker 2 (02:32:59):
The question that becomes Doug, and thank you for the
phone call, and we appreciate the good banter. If Bragman
all of a sudden has a change of heart, does
that make you change your heart about trying to move Tucker?
I think so. I think it does. Stays Yeah, you
you try to keep you gotta tape things together and
go for another championship, which it sounds like they want
(02:33:19):
to do anyways, But trading him before, trading Tucker before
the deadline would have been crazy. I'll stick with that.
If if I said he was crazy, I probably did.
Oh yeah, you ain't Tucker last year the deadline? No?
This year at this deadline? Oh no, okay, no, I
I you could be ridiculous because they were trying to
win a world series.
Speaker 3 (02:33:36):
Yeah no, this this past deadline? You don't make the move.
Speaker 2 (02:33:40):
You make the move now, and I certainly don't think
you do it in the middle of the season, because
what are you doing. You're just gonna are You're just
gonna hurt your opportunities to get better prospects from maybe
the Yankees, possibly the Yankees, who have one of the
better farm systems in baseball. Did you have a list
of the top seven baseball farm systems earlier? Not even
(02:34:02):
the twenty ninth best farm system of thirty still has prospects.
You know what I'm saying this just because you're a
top end system doesn't mean you're willing to give it up. Yeah,
that's true. So give me the top five. Okay, hold
on Astros thirtieth. Okay, go North just to toggle up.
Speaker 1 (02:34:17):
Number five.
Speaker 3 (02:34:18):
Should I do this?
Speaker 2 (02:34:19):
Well, this is MLB dot Com. Fangrabs have Dodgers at
number two. MLB dot Com has them at five, the
Dodgers five, Guardians four tradable tradable trials three. American League. Oh,
this is terrible. Give me the top National League Tewins,
Dodger two and Raised number one. Raise aren't paying for Twins,
aren't paying for him? Nigers number six, O God, there's
(02:34:41):
the Reds. Wait, am I the American League rankings Red
Sox number seven. Cubs are the top National League team
at eight on this list, eight of the top ten
they have in the American League. That should further tell
you trade him he's not coming back. Well, they have
(02:35:02):
the Yankees here, much lower than Fangrafts does Yankees they
have eighteenth. They're eighth on the fangrass list because it's
subject once from August and once yeah, who knows. Yeah,
But the bottom line is you've just explained to the
audience that the upper half of Major League Baseball teams
minor league systems, meaning that the pipelines they use to
(02:35:24):
replenish players, is primarily dominated by American League teams. And
last time I checked, the Astros were trying to beat
American League teams. Yes, fangraft I mean, I'm sorry. Bleacher
Report did an end of the season rankings, and well
they have Mariners number one. Is this from this year?
No way? Sorry, you just rattle along, aren't you? And
(02:35:49):
this is what the twenty twenty four season gone. They
had the Astros. The good news is they have the
Astros in twenty fourth. Yes it is that put him
in the bo them third is compared to the bottom three.
They have two Tier one listed as Tier one prospects
in the Astro system. I imagine you can guess the
names of both of them, Melton and Matthews, correct, And
(02:36:11):
it sounds like to me neither one aren't be ready
for the start of this year. Probably not. They have
six listed in Tier one for the Mariners. Who they
have is the best farm system.
Speaker 12 (02:36:22):
Now.
Speaker 2 (02:36:22):
I remember, just because you have all these prospects doesn't
mean they're gonna wind up playing for You're gonna wind
up using them as trade chips. Correct, So even if
they don't, because here's the thing, you need to get
prospects so you can use them if you for other deals.
That was that was the biggest problem with the Astros
is that they was so painful to them at the
(02:36:43):
trade deadline ross because they didn't have the prospects and
you had to give away what you had because people
realize your system wasn't great. Yeah, it's no breaking news.
Building up the farm system is good for the major
league level and it's good for trade ships. I mean,
that's that's what Dana Brown is tasked with doing. Alex
on seven ninety at one forty one high, Alex.
Speaker 6 (02:37:02):
What's going on, guys?
Speaker 2 (02:37:03):
Uh?
Speaker 6 (02:37:03):
So, Like, I think it was a year or so ago.
Speaker 16 (02:37:06):
Whenever I heard that Kyle Tucker was at the Winter
Trade Meetings, I was like, immediately, Oh, this guy's this
guy's gone. There's no reason for a player to be
there if he's not trying to talk to people, right,
So I kind of accepted that he's been gone for
a while, and it's I mean, it's only a matter
of time until it actually happens.
Speaker 4 (02:37:25):
But what I think is.
Speaker 16 (02:37:26):
Hilarious is Yankee fans. I don't know if you'll follow.
Frankie's too loud on Twitter. He's like the king of
Yankee fans on Twitter. They have this thing where whenever
a player that they want is coming up to be
free agent, they all get real quiet. They don't have
anything bad to say about him all of a sudden,
and then they get him, and then he's the greatest
thing in the world and.
Speaker 2 (02:37:46):
They're like, Oh, we're gonna.
Speaker 16 (02:37:47):
Do We're gonna win everything. Now, this is the best
Well they lost so though, and now they're all turning
heel on him. And Frankie was commenting on this article
that Jeff Passon just put out, or an interview that
he just did with I Guess Buster only. And now
the new popular thing is that Yankee fans are speculating
on Soto's actual age. They don't believe that he's actually
(02:38:11):
twenty six. And it's just it's like clockwork man, every
single time, every single time this happens, they turn heel
and it's the funniest thing. And also the Mets are idiots.
There's no lay, there's no way Soto's worth that much
money and certainly not that many years. That's crazy. I
can't wait to see the fall and burn both of
those teams. The window have closed on the Yankees, and
(02:38:34):
the Mets are gonna find out. They're gonna find out
what's up, because if you're spending that much on one guy.
The Dodgers have like almost a higher payroll but not
even close, and they won the World Series. There's no
way that the Mets are going to be able to
accommodate this. So I just want to hear what y'all
have to.
Speaker 2 (02:38:52):
Thank you, Alex, I'm going to go to this again.
I feel like I ask you this six times a year.
Give me a superstar ridiculous amounts of money that was
worth it is Is it Garrett Cole?
Speaker 3 (02:39:03):
Is it Greck?
Speaker 2 (02:39:03):
Is it? Bryce? Harper's Harper? It's a really short cuscal
Lindor led the National League and wins above the praise
replacement this year he's on a big deal. Uh. For
Nando Tatis was good, but he's been PD suspended. Yep,
Machado has been very good. Was a big part of
the Padres team. Okay, so what would you Let's put
(02:39:25):
the percentages at it for every one of the every
ten moves made by teams the pay Dodger's not regretting
the Otani deal right now? Who is the uh? Who
is the Ranger that was that? That was a former
Dodger that came over to the Rangers helped them win
the World Series. Corey Seeger, Kory Seeger, Corey Seeger was
great in twenty twenty three and they won the World Series.
I don't think they're regretting that deal. He did regress
(02:39:47):
last year. Yeah, but he's on a ten y big
ten year deal. I'm just pulling up here. I got
the largest deals in Major League Baseball history, longest. Yeah,
so o one, we'll seek Judge, I don't think the
Yankees are regretting that deal right now. His post seasm
wasn't great, that's true. Bryce Harper, No, Corey Seeger. I
(02:40:08):
don't think the Rangers YO should know about Yama Moto
with the Dodgers.
Speaker 6 (02:40:12):
Me what you know?
Speaker 2 (02:40:14):
With the Dodgers he was He was fantastic for them
all year and he was good when he was healthy
in the playoffs. Garrett Cole number seven, I would say, no,
not that they're not regretting that. Manny Machado probably, I don't.
I don't think so. Tree Turner of the Phillies. Here,
Sander Bogart's with the with the Padres eleven years to eighty.
(02:40:35):
That's that's kind of not a great deal. Okay, So
let's put this way. I would say four of every
ten why not being good value? But also the these
deals are are there supposed to be good deals right now?
In ten years is when they're supposed to be back.
So we look at five years from now, right then
we should have a better That's why the Albert Poolholz
decision was so bad. That's why the the Angels going
(02:40:59):
for any Rendon deal has turned out to be so bad.
A Rendone deal has been a disaster. The Kevin Brown
deal with the Dodgers wind up being a lot of money.
Elker Breer deal was terrible for the Adrian Beltray. Crazy
money towards the end. Yeah, there's there have been some
and Franklin Mike Trott probably was overpaid, not because of
(02:41:19):
his ability but just as an ability to stay on
the field. We'll see how the Rays feel about that
Wanderfronco deal. All right, let's play believe it or not.

Speaker 2 (02:42:43):
