Speaker 2 (00:03):

Speaker 1 (00:07):
Two in h Town. Good morning, everybody, and welcome to
a Friday edition of The Matt Thomas Show.

Speaker 3 (00:14):
With Ross Fort Lindon.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
This is Sports Talk seven ninety. You've jumped on the
sports empty train. Look where you are now?

Speaker 3 (00:21):
Exactly still at the caboose. Yeah, but you're at least
you're on You're in basic economy. But you're in Yeah. Uh,
I see them coming to check my ticket. I'm getting
kicked off. It's too hot. Sex only should come at
a certain value. Dinner, wine, maybe a movie, flowers, not
a million and a half bucks.

Speaker 4 (00:40):
Yeah, what a noble cause. By the way, doing your
best and keeping Breton, Oh that's true. You're satisfying people
across the globe. He, for whatever reason, rage against the
machine gets him in the mood.

Speaker 5 (00:52):
And he wonders why he's on the bench man.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
He just beat jacking.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
Excuse me?

Speaker 3 (00:56):
How many legitimately ugly silent reporters are there in sports?
A couple?

Speaker 1 (01:01):
Go ahead and name them. I'm waiting. We're waiting an
you open this up. Go I did not open I said,
I said how many? And I answered your question? You
should have said zero. You asked, you should have said no,
there's no ugly people.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
But I'm being honest. It is a Friday edition.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
Oh the Matt Thomas Show at Ross it said anything
goes Friday and clearly sports every We were in prime
mode this week with some of the commentary we had
on the show between ten o'clock until two. Good morning
to you.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
You know you're just out of control, Matt. And I'm disappointed.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
Yeah, you read disappointed. In the next four hours, I'll
be honest with you.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
How's Portland? I don't know.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
I got here like five and a half hours ago,
so I don't have a real great grasp of it.
Although it gets it doesn't either there's a cloud cover
or it just takes a long time to get the
sun to pop pop out because it is still.

Speaker 3 (01:55):
Really dark here. Oh you are in the Great Northwest.
You can get a little cloud a little gloomy.

Speaker 1 (02:01):
Yeah, a little bit, a little bit, a little claudy,
little gloomy. I wouldn't say last night it was a
bad not a bad loss, a loss and when you'd
like to have at Sacramento as the Kings have beaten
you twice so far, but an entertaining basketball game. I
mean it was like a fifteen round heavyweight fight in
many respects.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
It was.

Speaker 4 (02:18):
Yeah, I'm with you in that it wasn't a bad loss,
a bad loss like you played bad, you didn't care.
They were like lazy, lethargic whatever. It wasn't like that.
Sacramento Kings were making shots like crazy. Rockets did make
some mistakes and well they lost. It feels like that's
one and out of eighty two that can happen on
any given night in the NBA.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
Yeah. Yeah, So the Rockets fell last night to the Kings.
We'll get that among our conversation pieces. We have a
playoff game coming up, but tomorrow we have a freeze
and snow and ice coming to Houston early next week,
So we're gonna be a barrel last for the next
four hours, right sports Harvey, Yes, can't wait. And as
always as the case every Friday in the radio show,
it is anything and I mean anything goes Friday. Here

(03:04):
on the program, Ross people will call seven one three
two one two five seven ninety and you will explain
the essence about anything goes Friday. Yes, Matthew, if you
want full breakdown of what's happening on Saturday. The Texan's
going to defy all odds and cover the spread versus
the Chiefs. We can talk about that. The rockets we got.

Speaker 4 (03:23):
Actually, Matt uh I was like, I don't know if
I should do this, but I started off the show
with rockets yesterday and we got about an hour plus
of rockets calls multiple times, so people are turning the
corner I think on the rockets, even though the last
night might have helped, so I might not have help.
So if you want to talk some rockets, you can
at seven one three two one two five seven ninety.

(03:44):
And if you also want to talk about the Longhorns
holding on to defeat the Sooners in SEC basketball action,
we can discuss that Earling Holland of Manchester City has
signed a ten year contract to stay with the team.

Speaker 3 (03:57):
We can get a full breakdown of that as well.

Speaker 1 (03:59):
Yep, and.

Speaker 4 (04:02):
Jack del Rio is hired to play to coach football
in France.

Speaker 3 (04:06):
That's literally one of our story topics today. I didn't
realize that was on the agenda. It's de Lily the
number one ESPN headline right now.

Speaker 6 (04:12):
Matt.

Speaker 3 (04:12):
It's that time of year.

Speaker 1 (04:14):
Well you know what it is I think we're all
previewed out, frankly, and this is not just for us
as to talk about the Texans and Chiefs, but it's
more about everybody. I mean, you know you were I
was in Scamore yesterday getting read for the show and
watching an NFL live after, you know, in the middle
of the day, and they're trying to I mean, there's
only some munch you can talk about Washington versus Detroit,
only so much about Texans and Chiefs on me.

Speaker 3 (04:35):
So we're ready for the games.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
And as you mentioned before, and I will absolutely one
to percent back you up, this is an incredible weekend.
This would be Now I think I've fallen out of
love in sports betting. I mean, I'll do it, but
it's not one of the things I run to Vegas for.
But this would be probably a good weekend to just
sit back watch a pair of games on Saturday, a
pair of games on Sunday, have some action on them,

(04:58):
just to keep things interesting. And so you know, I
feel like when you go to an NFL during the
regular season, you have like nine games on it, maybe
your brain is overloaded with information. You don't know what
you're doing. This is where everybody is watching every play.
The sports books are full of emotion because we're only
watching that one game at a time. So this is
a really good weekend to just sit back in front
of your television and watch a bunch of hours of

(05:20):
really good football team. They are the eight best teams
right now in the NFL still live in the postseason competition. Yeah,
a couple of spreads are big, including the Texans and
then the Lions nine and holding is nine and a
half point favorites of the Commanders. But generally, yeah, year
to year, this is one of my favorite sports weekends
of the year. Of course, you start with March Madness,
but then I put it right up there. It's it's

(05:42):
those it's four games, two on Saturday, two on Sunday.
They all have huge implications. They're generally all very good teams. Yeah,
this is I'm I'm excited for it. So the Texans
game right now, and again Vegas is not telling you
anything because the Vegas folks didn't have anybody think of
the Texans, we're gonna win last week against I.

Speaker 3 (06:01):
Had to text her minus nineteen and a half? Did
you really it for you?

Speaker 6 (06:04):
Okay?

Speaker 1 (06:04):
Good for the old line. It is still holding a
casey minus eight according to ESPN's bet.

Speaker 3 (06:11):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
I've seen everything from seven and a half to nine,
so it depends on who. Taylor had it. At nine.
I thought it was just too much for her.

Speaker 3 (06:16):
Taylor Swift, No, Taylor Taylor Betts Tylor. You're saying, Taylor,
did she pick the Texans?

Speaker 1 (06:24):
I'm not checked her Twitter account yet today, don't, Matt.

Speaker 3 (06:27):
You're the one that said what she had? I checked today,
did Okay, did she pick the Texans? When she was
talking about it? I don't think she had any action
on that.

Speaker 4 (06:35):
I could see her jobbing the lines and giving her
stuff whatever side she picks, picking the most beneficial side
for her. That's what a lot of these touts who
don't really have any gambling intel do.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (06:45):
I'm trying to look at what she did.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
Yet. She had a lot of college basket She Tampa's
all over the place when it comes to her now.

Speaker 3 (06:50):
She doesn't even know she's There's no analysis, Matt. There's
two fluffy, bouncy things and then a lot of airheadedness
going on.

Speaker 1 (06:57):
She had done her money line yesterday.

Speaker 3 (06:59):
Good for her, Okay, a thunder money line at all. Yeah, yeah,
at home against the Calves.

Speaker 1 (07:06):
Yes, okay, cool, I'm taking the Detroit Lions and the
money she Tony the hatchetman, Valentine, I got the Detroit
Lions on the money line.

Speaker 3 (07:14):
It's my lock of a.

Speaker 1 (07:15):
Week, okay, Son, So one day ago, Taylor head, I'm
kind of in love with Texans plus nine and a half.

Speaker 3 (07:21):
I'm taking nine and a half half. I don't see
nine and a half anywhere baking that up. Matt, please
stop falling for her griffs and she money lined the
best team in basketball at home. Brilliant stuff there.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
Well, they didn't have Isaiah hartenstegin last night, so I'm
just okay, Well, yeah, that was a big difference maker,
and I clearly was it.

Speaker 3 (07:43):
All right, Look, I'll give her some credit. It was
actually only two and a half. I thought it would
have been a little more.

Speaker 1 (07:47):
Yeah, Oh see, are being nice to her.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
That's good, I said, I'm giving her a little.

Speaker 1 (07:51):
Credit, all right. All right, So the Rockets lost last
night in Sacramento. We got that to get to. I
did listen to your show yesterday. I was very entertained.
I was a little nervous about the Dan Orlobsky get
because I don't know if that Dan was just like
calling texting Dan, or that was something set up for
somebody else. But I was a little worried when y'all
were like, eh, we may be getting him, and you

(08:12):
eventually got him, and I think around thirty twelve forty five.

Speaker 3 (08:15):
So if you missed some of that conversation, we're gonna
play a little bit of it coming up at bottom
of the art because I thought it was good stuff.

Speaker 1 (08:20):
And first of all, I like Dan a lot. I
frankly think sometimes and I don't think I think I
know this.

Speaker 3 (08:26):
I know this. ESPN overuses it's people.

Speaker 1 (08:29):
Well, Dan was laf and then I listened to you
guys yesterday in the room, and then I took a
nap and I woke up and watched NFL Live and
he was on that show. I mean, yeah, he's on
like more than anybody else I know.

Speaker 4 (08:42):
Then he was breaking down the Australian Open. I think too,
it's crazy. Yeah, I think he had thoughts about the
WNBA draft. I was like, Dan, Dan, you are moving
around here.

Speaker 1 (08:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (08:50):
ESPN lays everyone off to pay Steven A. Smith's exorbitant salary.
So he got to use everyone everywhere else.

Speaker 1 (08:55):
Me like meanwhile Orlobsky's like, hey, can I get like
an hour break? No, no, sorry, we're employed here. You'll
be on.

Speaker 3 (09:02):
You'll be on this week in the PGA tour. We've
got you on NFL Live, sal Polow learn Portuguese. Let's go.

Speaker 1 (09:09):
You got it all right? It is andthing goes Friday
seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven ninety So we're
gonna play something that Dane Lovsky coming up at the
bottom of the hour. Also in the radio program today
we will hear from a Soren Petro, who's our friend
in Kandas said, did you go on his show yesterday
or this week?

Speaker 5 (09:25):
No?

Speaker 3 (09:25):
They didn't hit me up this week.

Speaker 7 (09:27):
Oo.

Speaker 4 (09:28):
I know, maybe I've been uh, I've been replaced. They
said Matt Thomas is so good, we can't use anyone else.

Speaker 1 (09:34):
Well, maybe what they did, honestly is they said, you know,
Ross is good for the regular season, but we need
to upgrade for the postseason.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
I'm just throwing it out there.

Speaker 1 (09:44):
I wouldn't you know what, I wouldn't go on In
the month of September October November December. Okay, by the way,
to our friends in Canada, get ahold of you?

Speaker 3 (09:52):
Oh yeah, did I talk about that. No, they sent
it to me first.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
Oh you're like, I'm good. Oh thanks, Matt down Yes,
I will be honest to Skatchewan in three thirty six today.
When I saw that, I did a double take. Now, no,
I've done some radio in Canada before. Yeah, but it
was I didn't know Regina, Saskatchewan had a sports station.

Speaker 3 (10:12):
I think it's Reginaga. I'm serious, Okay, I just want
to make sure we're very careful how we said it.

Speaker 1 (10:21):
Regina.

Speaker 3 (10:26):
Okay, I mean I'm in I mean, yeah, Regina. I
hear Regina's lovely. This time I tho it was Regina. No, Regina, Regina, Regina, Regina. Yeah,
you are on going on Regina's Sports Leader today.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (10:46):
Watch, I heard it's rainy. It could be a little
sloppy in Regina today.

Speaker 1 (10:53):

Speaker 2 (12:22):
This is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross on Sports
Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (12:32):
Ten twenty one. On Sports Talk seven ninety it is
the Matt Tomas Show with Ross and anything goes Friday,
and that means anything you want to get to, whether
it be sports non sports related. Texans Chiefs. I think
we're all really concerned about our weather here in Houston
next week. I got the email today Ross that I'll
be on Team weather coverage. So on Tuesday, are you serious? Yeah?

(12:55):
So I'll hang out with you for a few hours,
take an hour break, and then do four hours on KTRH.

Speaker 4 (12:59):
Since I out there, thanks there is just put that
on a loop. It's icy, stay home.

Speaker 1 (13:05):
Bye. I mean I can tell you this and again
I'm I'm tentatively prepared to do this. I think I'm
gonna wed Tuesday afternoon after our show. The easiest thing
and this is this is the thing about ice and
snow and wind is as you said, Ross, just don't
go outside. Mm hmmm, where you're not when hurricanes and
tornadoes come. You were dodging and you're trying to protect

(13:25):
yourself and wrapping up, you know, covering up windows and
that kind of thing. And you look, you gotta wrap
your pipes. I mean, that's that.

Speaker 3 (13:31):
Goes out saying always wrap your pipes, man, always.

Speaker 1 (13:34):
Well, my pipe's been wrapped for a long time.

Speaker 3 (13:38):
But you nothing else if you don't leave your house.

Speaker 1 (13:43):
And as long as you don't lose your power, which
unfortunately Ross several years ago we had that happen that
was out of our control, you're gonna be pretty much okay.
But if you can decide you want to go drive
to get something to eat or I don't know whatever
you're gonna be, you're gonna be dr having on ice.
And that's not fun because you can't control your car.

(14:03):
And there's not a scarier feeling in the world. I
lived in Minneapolis for three years, in Salt Lake City
for two I know this, you just don't do it.
That's it. That's You're right ross my coverage next Tuesday,
if I'm working the ice storm coverage, what are snow is?
Don't go outside? And back to Michael Berry remote.

Speaker 3 (14:21):
Do you like to put like a coconut on top
of your pie?

Speaker 1 (14:26):
Ramote?

Speaker 8 (14:26):
You know?

Speaker 1 (14:27):
Do you feel like that? You know, when it's super
cold outside, you want a warm mugg of chili. Is
there anything better than a cup of hot cocoa on
a cold eightning Ramo? Ramote?

Speaker 3 (14:38):
Do you think the Carpenters weren't Underraty Duo in the seventies? Ramote?
Did you know that Karen Carpenter was a world class drummer.

Speaker 1 (14:51):
So here's the thing is, I'm gonna be on three
to seven and he's at five o'clock, Michael Berry.

Speaker 3 (14:55):
People are gonna annihilate me. They're gonna come in.

Speaker 1 (14:57):
And they're not gonna be happy.

Speaker 3 (14:58):
Who is this sports door? Work on my on my
news stage. You check back with the bosses. I'll give
you fifty bucks if you mix in at Joe Biden's
the greatest president of all time. Later we would were
here at Kajerrich would not have these weather issues of
Joe Biden. Yes, if Kayla Harris was reelected, Oh well,
oh no, don't do that one. Just blame Joe Biden.

(15:23):
I can't blame Donny t. You can do no wrong.

Speaker 1 (15:26):
I couldn't even do that with a straight face. I couldn't.

Speaker 4 (15:28):
That'd be pretty funny, that would be funny. Oh I
want to hear I want to see the angry emails.
I don't from various Aol dot com and SBC Global
dot net email addresses.

Speaker 1 (15:39):
No copy serve all the I don't lead any of that, Rossie.
I'm just I'm here to providing information. So yeah, So Monday,
we're gonna be ross and I will be at Tota Center.
The mL KT is Monday, uh, and it will be
an afternoon games. We have a shorter show on Monday,
and then Tuesday would be uh. I mean at Rossie,
I'm always jealous of you live so close to the office.

(15:59):
I don't so I'm gonna be one. I'm staying in
the city for a day or so.

Speaker 3 (16:02):
Oh you are? Yeah, Oh well, okay, what kind of facility?
How many diamonds?

Speaker 1 (16:08):
I've booked a hotel that had apparently two, but it's
very close to the office. So and I'm using points
the hotel well, I mean I points are made to
be a crude so they can be used. So yes,
I'm going to use the points I own I've paid for.

Speaker 3 (16:24):
So oh man, let's go Rockets. Talk about those Rockets
all right? So last night, so give me your perspective,
because I had fun.

Speaker 1 (16:36):
It was. I mean, there was a time where I
was like literally having to catch my breath because they
there was like multiple four or five minute stretches where
teams were just knocking back big buckets. After that, I mean,
one of the highest scoring games of the year for
the Rockets, both defensively given up in points scored and
not to win the game. I think all ten starters
were in double figures last night. Dylan got off to

(16:58):
a slow start and then heated up with a couple
of three pointers in the fourth quarter. Jalen Green was
out of his mind again yesterday, but DeRozan did great,
Demi Sabonis was good, Malik Monk was. I mean that
Sacramento team and not that we get a lot of
King's chatter in the Houston area, but they are finally
probably performing after what they thought they were going to

(17:19):
be because that was a good win for them last night.

Speaker 3 (17:21):
Yeah, they're really talented team. How is there? Well, twenty
one and twenty is not terrible, but.

Speaker 1 (17:26):
They're eight and two since Doug Critzy took over.

Speaker 4 (17:28):
Yeah, you mentioned Sabonis Deroz and Keegan Murray's good dearon Fox.
Malake Monk like great, Kevin heard her off the bench
is good? How are they so bad?

Speaker 3 (17:37):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (17:37):
By the way, that was me watching dearon Fox for
a long stretch. And look, I've called a bunch of
his games over the years. I don't love him.

Speaker 4 (17:44):
I like him, I don't love him. Trust the process.
Raphael Stone said that they quoted him, well, who is
it Taylor Rooks or somebody on the team time broadcast yea,
even though she was saying Raphael Stone, Yeah, by the.

Speaker 1 (17:57):
Way, for those of you, if you want to sound smart,
it's Rofel, So really think about it. You know how
you helped me out there today with.

Speaker 3 (18:03):
Spear Sphere spear fear s fear here is r a
dash fell Rafelfel Rafel.

Speaker 1 (18:13):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (18:13):
And then there was some guy interviewing Jalen Green on NBA. Okay,
al prition Goon has been in the league for four years.

Speaker 1 (18:20):
Yes, he called him Shinguine, No, he did not. Yeah,
it was one of those guys. Who was that guy
that was talking about play by players.

Speaker 3 (18:27):
Only with you? I think it was him.

Speaker 1 (18:28):
Oh, that was Dennis Scott, the former Magic.

Speaker 3 (18:31):
Yeah, the former former magic man.

Speaker 1 (18:34):
Magic Man. That's right, magic when you think of a stripper,
don't you magician?

Speaker 3 (18:38):
You didn't know that's magic, Mike?

Speaker 1 (18:40):
Oh, okay, sorry, it was one of those was called
it was talking to Jalen Green about hey man, what's
it like playing with shing Gwen. No he didn't.

Speaker 3 (18:50):
Yes, I swear to you the audio.

Speaker 1 (18:53):
Maybe not today, but you'll get you got no, I'll.

Speaker 4 (18:56):
I literally was on NBA TV a couple of days
ago when when the Rockets were on nba A TV.

Speaker 1 (19:01):
Yeah, shngoon, which doesn't and by the way, it sounds
different than it's spelled.

Speaker 3 (19:05):
I mean, I I don't know. There's no eye in there.
Shin Goon? Is that that one's the easy one to me?

Speaker 4 (19:11):
Well, no, sin if he said Singoon Singoon is a
little bit more acceptable.

Speaker 1 (19:17):
But he's been a links for four years. He's been
in the league for four years and there's no I
in there.

Speaker 3 (19:21):
Right shing Gwen's not a it's an happen, It's from anapoly.

Speaker 1 (19:29):
It's the Italian Basketball League on any TV today opera taking.

Speaker 3 (19:34):
On dark old Milicack.

Speaker 9 (19:36):
Okay, and.

Speaker 3 (19:39):
And uh let's see de feci of something Pablo PRICIONI
MI coach you by Michael dan TONI yay, And uh
you made as a duke?

Speaker 1 (19:52):
No, no, all right? Uh so if you miss Dan Orlovsky,
I want you guys hear a little bit of that
because that was a great conversation.

Speaker 3 (19:58):
Did Dan book that for our Yeah? Uh, I think
he did because he was filling in, but I don't know.

Speaker 1 (20:04):
So we got like it's like if you if you
invite Dan to the party, he brings up a really
cool friend with him.

Speaker 3 (20:11):
Yeah, not that we don't love Dan. We do love Dan,
but Dan by himself is just Dan. We love both.
Dance Dan with Dan Orlowski. That's nice.

Speaker 1 (20:19):
Hey, Dan, come to the party, enjoy yourself. I see
how Dan's working. So he's like, man, if you would
need me.

Speaker 3 (20:27):
So it's almost like.

Speaker 1 (20:28):
If if when you're gone, whenever you take some time
off this spring, maybe I said, Dan, you want to
come in and work the show, and he'll go like,
oh man, I'd love him. Can you bring some people
with you, like the really top end guests?

Speaker 3 (20:37):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (20:38):
I kind of like how this works. Dan Matthews will
not be on the A lot on the show unless
he brings an A list guest with him seven one
three two, one two five seven ninety seven one three
two one two five seven ninety Some of that Dan
Olobska conversations. Next, it's ten twenty nine, it'said anything goes Friday,

Speaker 10 (20:57):
And with that intensity, can you give our viewers how
much fun is to play with Shitte Guen need a

Speaker 1 (21:08):

Speaker 3 (21:11):
Yeah, I prayd of Shanguini. I think he says Shinguini
plays play it again.

Speaker 10 (21:18):
And with that intensity, can you give our viewers how
much fun is to play with Shin Guen need a
big fella? The way he shares the ball, you take
us in, how hard he works every day?

Speaker 1 (21:28):
How much fun playing with shing Gueni?

Speaker 3 (21:31):
Who is he talking to? With whose interview Jalen Green Reli,
I know I use the rockets. What a Paplo BRINGSIONI.

Speaker 1 (21:46):
And my next favorite teammate of Dante Deevenchinzo.

Speaker 3 (21:51):
Then they look God of naughty Hey and the Nikka
Yo kids Shine Guen Shen what he's from Turkey brother?
We got a new drop of the show.

Speaker 7 (22:05):
There.

Speaker 3 (22:05):
It is nice work, shingweny Shinguen. Let's go to a
report a Diana Rossini.

Speaker 1 (22:16):
Yeah, and end man.

Speaker 3 (22:18):
Haven't you've not gone to set up at Antonio?

Speaker 9 (22:21):
Oh my gosh.

Speaker 1 (22:24):
Two things we don't do on this show. Stereotype and
a type of bad Attalian accents.

Speaker 3 (22:30):
Shinguini. He's been in the league for four years, borderline
all star the last two. Yeah, all right, there you go.

Speaker 1 (22:43):
NBA basketball, it's fantastic, all right. NFL football is fantastic too.
Rossa of a brand new poll question up on the
Twitter account at sports.

Speaker 3 (22:52):
Mt you do you love polls?

Speaker 11 (22:55):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (22:55):
Three minutes ago? It's a call your shop, very simple.

Speaker 1 (22:58):
Who do you like?

Speaker 3 (22:58):
Texans and Chiefs? Now earlier? Oh, come on earlier this week?
Give me the eight? Huh, give me the eight at least? No, no, no,
this is a straight up.

Speaker 1 (23:06):
This is we don't the World of NFL competition does
not go ladies and Chentleman. The Texans advanced the AFC
Championship game. Is they won with a plus eight? No,
this is either who wins Texans or Chiefs and uh
thirty one votes are in the last three minutes. Sixty
one percent of you believe the Texans.

Speaker 3 (23:24):
Yeah, we're getting a vote from Taylor. She taking the
cheese by the money line.

Speaker 1 (23:31):
She's like, I loving this Texans plus sixteen. I'm like, Taylor,
come on now.

Speaker 4 (23:35):
And maybe she's going with a teaser with Taylor teas
you like that. That's very natural Taylor's teasers. Why I
don't know why she doesn't do this already. She does
teacher Tay, which is actually any watches Oh no.

Speaker 3 (23:48):
Did she wear a school girl outfit or a teacher outfit?
She's got a whiteboard.

Speaker 1 (23:54):
Okay, So go vote Texans cheaps on the Twitter count
at Sports MTAM and we'll update them throughout the course
of the show. All right, you had a special guest
on the show yesterday, A huge get not for you. No,
I think our friend Dan Mathew.

Speaker 4 (24:08):
Yeah, Dan Matthews got us dan Orlowski on the show yesterday,
some good conversation previewing Texans, and Chief started off asking
him a very very important question We've all wondered, who
is the real c J Stroud?

Speaker 11 (24:21):
I mean, CJ's a sensational player. He's a young man
that you know, obviously took the league by storm last year,
and you know, all off season I was one who
was pretty clear of what he did was even greater
than maybe the numbers painted the picture as because he
was so remarkable on third down and that masked a

(24:42):
lot of some of the inefficiencies of the offense as
a whole, and that's obviously one of the harder downs
to be good at at that position of the league.
So it was even more impressive than again, maybe the
surface numbers less said. And then this year it caught
up to them a little bit this year. The poor
performance on first down caught up to them this year,
the lack of consistently being able the control the line
of scrimmager on a load of downs.

Speaker 3 (25:02):
And the poor production.

Speaker 11 (25:03):
I remember going back to Week one and I did
a quick little thing on NFL at I was like, man,
they better figure out that protection because it was ugly,
and it's it's rained terror on their offense and as
it impacted CJ's you know, play negatively, There's no question
about it. Has he played lesser than he has had
last year, Absolutely, But I think that's the direct reason

(25:24):
why that the protection has kind of impacted him, impacted
his vision, made him a little antsy at times, which
is one a real thing, But I don't think that's
made him a lesser.

Speaker 4 (25:37):
Player now and Dana Orlowski join us here on The
Matt Sama Show with Rosity and Matthews in for Matt.
You know, Dan, A couple of the things that we've
been talking about all week that seemed like it was
the aha moment for CJ is one the busted play
with the fumbled snap and he's got to roll out
find savior Hutchinson and also using his legs. Did you

(25:57):
see a guy in the second half who got back
to being the guy that he was last year where
I mean, let's call it what it is his own words,
he was a killer on the field last year.

Speaker 11 (26:07):
Yeah, yeah, I mean that's kind of one of the
things that he has done a little bit more, I
would say, this year, and just take off with his
legs and be a threat. You know, situationally, it's not
necessarily that you're designing quarterback runs for him, but those
situational backbreaker Patrick Mahomes Joe Burrow type of runs where
you know it's third and six and they take off

(26:28):
and it's like, oh my gosh, everyone was covered, but
he got a first down.

Speaker 6 (26:31):
So yeah, I saw that.

Speaker 11 (26:32):
I don't have any reservations about who CJ is or
what CJ is. I think that, you know, some of
the injuries and the lack of performances have been the
significant part of why the playoffs fallen off. But that's
going to be a huge part of this game for
them this weekend as well as you know, for both
quarterbacks as who's going to have those two or three
runs and those crucial moments to either you know, keep

(26:53):
a drive alive or put points on the board or
take three minutes off of a clock longer. And so yeah,
I think that's another kind of I don't know what's
the astisk, but bullet point in this game is, you know,
can CJ pull those off?

Speaker 4 (27:06):
One of the big problems with the offensive line has
just been allowing those free runners.

Speaker 3 (27:10):
Dan with maybe a lack of communication, and I am
worried about that going up against the Spagnola defense this
weekend on the road in a loud, Arrowhead environment. How
did the Texans in the offensive line prepare for that?

Speaker 11 (27:23):
Yeah, I mean it's it's obviously a huge part of
the challenge. I think the number one thing that they
can do to help that is you've got to run
the football in twenty one personnel. Something that actually going
back to a couple of weeks when they did play,
they were decently successful at it, and so twenty one
putting a fullback on the field or maybe utilizing a
tight end in that role, but you've got to be

(27:44):
able to do that. The second thing is this, Actually,
I'll make this the first thing. Every single time that
CJ breaks down and walks the line of scrimmage, he's
got to be thinking blitz because it comes at any
point from anywhere. Situations don't matter, So there has to
be a constant at the forefront of his mind, where's
the blitz coming from? Where's the n If they don't,

(28:05):
it's almost like as a quarterback you're often reacting to
the blitz. This is a reacting to the no blitz. Situation.

Speaker 6 (28:13):
If you're CJ.

Speaker 11 (28:14):
Like every play, you're expecting a blitz so it doesn't
surprise you. Then again, the twenty one personnel has got
to be a big run. I think the second thing
is you got to try to hit some screens against
them when they pressure you. You know, there's there's two
methods deal dealing with pressure as an offense. You want
to try to survive it or you want to try
and kill it. And one of the ways that you

(28:35):
try to you know, do both of them at the
same time. As some perimeter screens where it protects you,
you get the ball of your hands. There's usually more
than not a bad play that but if you touch
it at the right time, right angle, right people, you
can hit on run. And so I think some of
the perimeter screens or slip screens would.

Speaker 3 (28:51):
Be a big deal.

Speaker 11 (28:51):
And then I mean, one of the things that was
disappointing is the plan for protection and the execution for protection.
And so you know, you got to have a plan
for it. You got to know exactly how you want
to protect it and communicate it. And while it's hard,
you know, it's one of the challenges of the business.
You know, if it's third out. I wouldn't be surprised
if you get into some no huddle and try to

(29:14):
give yourself as much time at the line of scrimmage
to communicate.

Speaker 9 (29:16):
And then you know, one of the things I've.

Speaker 11 (29:18):
Always learned, and I learned this from Coach Kubiak, and
if everybody's wrong, we're gonna be okay. So you don't
chase perfection in these situations. You know, like to think
that you're gonna get to line scrimmage you know exactly
what's gonna happen, and that's not real. But as long
as everybody's on the same page and it knows what
or who the problem is, you're gonna be okay more

(29:40):
often than not. So that's the big thing is you
can't have four guys thinking one thing and one person
doing another thing. That's when catastrophe happens.

Speaker 1 (29:48):
Great stuff yesterday from Danelawski Rossie. I was concerned when
I got the injury report, and this will be us
after y'all were done yesterday. Did I see Joe mix
It not practice yesterday?

Speaker 4 (29:58):
Yes, I believe he's still it was limited one day
than DNP the next. Yeah, he's gonna go Yeah, he
thinks resting. We have to think that way, right, Yeah,
because if he's not, this bad boy is over.

Speaker 9 (30:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (30:15):
I'm not encouraged by that now. Again, granted it was
a yesterday was a Friday practice, which is light to
begin with. Some I mean guys have taken up, but yeah,
there you have to establish the ground game. I think
it's one of the things that Dan mentioned a lot
in that conversation is you've got to mix things up
a little bit here and and at least make things
where because look, it was clearly last week SJA wanted

(30:35):
to throw the ball forty five times. I mean, they
didn't mess around with that. That's how they figured they
were gonna win the football game. I think keeping Kansas
City off the field in their offense, which is significantly
more potent what the Chargers could throw at you, that
means you've got to mix it up. You gotta you
gotta win the time possession, and you gotta get four
yards in a first down more times than not.

Speaker 4 (30:55):
Yes, stay on schedule, keep Pat Mahomes off the field,
hire out that defense, and we'll see what happens with
the offensive line. Shack Mason supposed to be back. I
don't know how it's going to be configured. Did you
what was the Juice scrug situation practice report?

Speaker 1 (31:09):
I missed that, but let me look super super quick
here and well, by the way, if you want to
join us, you can at seven one three two one
two five seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (31:17):
Juice Scrugs yesterday is full participation. Okay.

Speaker 1 (31:24):
So the only players that did not practice yesterday were
Joe Mixon, who's got a hip he is listed as questionable,
Robert Woods with a bad hip, but he's also old,
so we all have bad hips, Elsie aushar Ear limited
participation yesterday, and then Anderson Autry, Mason, Schultz, Scrugs, Cotriano
all full participants yesterday seven one three two one two

(31:47):
five seven ninety seven to one three two one two
five seven and we'll start taking your phone calls. Next
in is an nything goes Friday. We are with you
today until two o'clock.

Speaker 8 (31:55):
Uh.

Matton Ross return return on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (33:26):
Time is ten fifty. It is the Matt Thomas Show
with Ross. We take you at two o'clock this afternoon
here on Sports Talk seven nine. I'm here in Portland,
Oregon with the Rockets. Last night lost to the King's
actually down in Sacramento, and Rockets will play Portland on
Saturday night.

Speaker 3 (33:42):
So good day of Houston sports.

Speaker 1 (33:44):
The Texans play at three point thirty, the Rockets play
at nine. Lots of college basketball and we will be
thinking about it. Right around the corner spring training, the
Astros announcement their preliminary roster and they've got six of
their top ten prospects, ROSSI in the organization coming to
West Palm Beach to work out for at least for
a while.

Speaker 4 (34:02):
It's a new age, it's a new day, it's a
new down, it's a new life for the Houston Astros.

Speaker 1 (34:08):
Are you like trying to help the Astros create their
brand for twenty twenty five.

Speaker 3 (34:12):
Yes, is it working?

Speaker 1 (34:14):
Well, they haven't announced it yet, so maybe you got
a chance of what.

Speaker 4 (34:17):
Are they gonna go with? We should speculate on this. Actually,
this is fun. Uh what was it last year?

Speaker 3 (34:23):
Wasn't it relentless?

Speaker 8 (34:25):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (34:27):
I remember, like in twenty twelve it was we're.

Speaker 3 (34:29):
Trying hashtag give it a shot. Half hashtag could be worse.

Speaker 1 (34:37):
It's almost funnier to do the ones you think they
won't use as compared to ones they would use.

Speaker 3 (34:43):
Hmm.

Speaker 1 (34:44):
Like I remember in two thousand, what was it when
krailf we'll be fine with a new shortstop and they.

Speaker 3 (34:49):
Were yeah, hmm yeah, what what would be failed astro phrasing?

Speaker 5 (35:02):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (35:02):
I remember in twenty fourteen it was Astros we're still here.

Speaker 1 (35:07):
No, it wasn't.

Speaker 3 (35:09):
Hashtag two for one tickets.

Speaker 1 (35:12):
I can't believe I did all those post games for
all those years when they sucked as bad as they do.

Speaker 3 (35:17):
You're doing great, man, We're all proud of you.

Speaker 6 (35:19):
Now you're No.

Speaker 3 (35:19):
I didn't do anything. I just did the shows. Wasn't
my best work. I did a lot of monolog on
the Rockets in the dark days, a lot of monologing.

Speaker 1 (35:28):
Would peel the curtain back. There were nights when the
Astros were like twenty five thirty games under five hundred
and Cameron had a little league baseball game. I'd watched
that and then go like fast forward through the Astros,
and I knew they weren't gonna live.

Speaker 3 (35:37):
We're gonna lose. It was gonna be mattered by what
final that what You can always catch up on a
baseball game, Oh, easy, easy, especially the DVR is your friend.

Speaker 1 (35:46):
Yea hey, well, I mean how many times a you're
gonna say, all right, at the end of five, it's
the Red Sox nine the Astros won.

Speaker 3 (35:51):
I mean, you can only do that so many times.
You can watch a baseball game on double speed if
you're behind, I'm just saying.

Speaker 1 (35:57):
I'm just saying, we got it down to a science,
but we don't do it anymore because the Astros are good, thankfully.
Then sometimes dinner runs along, I'll have to have the fastest,
you know, double speed the first couple of innox. Okay,
well you're being honest, I am seven game, Yeah you did,
and you listened to him here on seven course, No
let's talk to Brian in East Houston at seventeen fifty four. Brian,

(36:19):
good morning to you.

Speaker 9 (36:20):
Hey, good morning matthe you're the best in Houston.

Speaker 1 (36:23):
Yeah, you're the listening, No.

Speaker 8 (36:25):
You are.

Speaker 9 (36:26):
I've been listening since your CASSIDV days and Ross, thank you.
You and Ross are fantastic. And Matthews is great and
even Gord he's good. And afterwards the one at one
of the hosts is great and the other one I
can't listen to because he's a homer. But uh sing
gooon pronunciation, the sing gooom pronunciation. Mb I watched a

(36:50):
lot of m v A TV and h Dennis Scott
is there lots and this this woman Lauren Jabbarro or
something like that. But yeah, every time Sengoon's highlights comes out,
they call them Singuini and they that's their pet nickname
for him. And then they really don't even call them

(37:11):
yet and they don't even call them Singoon anymore, but
they call them some green like every time. I guess
they think it's cute or something like that.

Speaker 1 (37:20):
That makes well, it makes sense that you'd give them
a nickname, but wouldn't you want to fit one that
would actually make a little bit of sense. That's my
only issue.

Speaker 9 (37:29):
Yeah, huh, that's sometimes the NBA TV is a little
a little different.

Speaker 1 (37:35):
That's a fair statement. They don't have the cachet as
the MLB network in the NFL network, that's for sure.
That's for sure.

Speaker 3 (37:41):
They don't go ahead.

Speaker 9 (37:43):
I don't like when they don't have the names of
the people underneath, because sometimes you don't really know who
it is, you know, throw the name underneath. One thing
about the NBA defense is the name of the game.
All the top teams play great defense. Rock It's okay,
see Cleveland and the Boston and the Rockets.

Speaker 12 (38:05):
Defense is just defense is just phenomenal with Thompson, Thompson
and Eason and written More and Brooks, they're just fantastic.

Speaker 1 (38:17):
Yeah, it's it's a really fun team to watch. Thank you,
Brian for the nice words in the commentary. And that's
what I think you were saying. Listen to you and
we've talked about it at nauseum. If you go to
the stereotype of what you think the NBA is, first
of all, you can't do that. That's just painting with
a real broad brush. But if you're really going to
look at it through a microscope. The Rockets are different. Now.

(38:39):
Last night the Kings were able to score at ease
and those that was kind of an outlier. But the
Rockets have been a top ten defensive team this entire season.
This team has been number one or number two in
rebounding this entire year. They don't If they dog it,
Eman Dook is going to call them out by lots
of cusswords. Ross. He does not let he does not
mince words. He goes, he calls times out, He walks

(39:02):
on the court, goes directly to the person and insults them.
So trust me, there is a message being sent. You're
going to play defense for the most part when you
have Em Doka as your head basketball come.

Speaker 4 (39:12):
But even better. But than dog cuss and you're just
not gonna play, You're just gonna be out there.

Speaker 3 (39:16):
Yeah, that's exactly right.

Speaker 1 (39:18):
And last night it was a little bit of a
different situation. And look you, it was a back to back.
The Denver Sacramento road trip was talking with the King's announcement.
It thought like, there's just not an easy way to
play back to backs when you're not in the state
of California. And it was like you know, it's almost
a two and a half hour flight yesterday, so they
were able to you know, it was a good game.
Lots of different comebacks. I think how many with twenty

(39:40):
different lead changes. I mean, it could have been a
lot worse. And you know, the kind of thing was
nice for me and we gotta get to a top
of the hour break. Here is that. You know, the
folks in Sacramento, they don't get a lot of national
TV games because, frankly, let's face it, if you're a
nine to thirty ESPN or a TNT broadcast, you're gonna
try to load up with the Lakers and the Warriors
as much as you can with a little bit of sprinkle.
The Clippers the Kings are not on the top of

(40:01):
the agenda, and they treated it very seriously because they're like,
you know, this gives us an opportunity to show us
who we are. And I thought for both sides, the
Rockets have not gotten on TV a lot. I found
if you if you were just a casual fan yesterday
and you were laying in your bed trying to fall asleep,
and you watch that game or part of it, I
think you should come across as that's a pretty entertaining
basketball game.

Speaker 3 (40:22):
Yeah, I agree, it was good.

Speaker 1 (40:23):
It was great.

Speaker 3 (40:23):
I wish you would have gone a little bit better
for the home well for our home side, that's right.
And then they lit the beam.

Speaker 1 (40:30):
It's not good. It's fine.

Speaker 3 (40:32):
It's it is what it is.

Speaker 1 (40:34):
By the way, underrated town, Sacramento, if you guys want
to go to check out a Rockets road game.

Speaker 3 (40:39):
Underrated in what way?

Speaker 1 (40:40):
The downtown vibe is really good. Lots of good restaurants,
places to eat, drink, be merry. Hotel choices are a plenty.
The arena is awesome. It has a garage. It opens
up when the weather is good, so they actually open
it up so so the fresh air gets in there.
And it was little chili last night. And the beam
thing is kind of fun. I mean they get into
that kind of stuff.

Speaker 3 (41:01):
And in the place was full. I love full arenas
that are activated.

Speaker 1 (41:04):
From the jump, and that's what people were in Sacramento
last night.

Speaker 3 (41:08):
The Rockets will get there.

Speaker 1 (41:11):
I mean we're going to get there right hopefully. Yeah. Well,
I'm curious about how the crowd's gonna be Monday. We
don't haven't had a day game midweek, and I don't
remember how.

Speaker 3 (41:21):
Long when in the middle of freezing weather. We'll see
one o'clock Monday. Did Troy Houston be there?

Speaker 1 (41:27):
Seven one three, two, one two five seven on our
friends sore on Petro joining us in twenty minutes?

Speaker 3 (41:31):
Is that still on for a go? Oh yeah, it
should be. Let me to double check. That's fine, you
do whatever you need to do.

Speaker 1 (41:37):
Ten to fifty nine, let's souk the second hour the
Matt Thomas Show with Ross. I'm here important and it's
coming up in a matter of moments here on Sports
Talk seven ninety lunchtimers. This is the Matt Thomas Show,
how number two, but anything goes Friday here on the
Matt Thomas Show with Ross, I'll be waking up the
strippers coming up at about to fifty eight minutes from now,

(42:00):
ROSSI the strippers waked up at ten am Pacific time.

Speaker 3 (42:03):
I guess they could on Fridays, right. Do you think
they sleep late here?

Speaker 5 (42:06):
Now?

Speaker 3 (42:06):
They're probably going to better around than Matt.

Speaker 1 (42:08):
That's true, that's true. Uh seven one three, two two
five seven ninety Ross. My poll question which you can
take a look at and vote right now for your
desires that sports MPT cost you absolutely nothing. The question
is call your shot.

Speaker 3 (42:21):
Who do you have?

Speaker 1 (42:21):
One hundred and forty six votes are in sixty five
percent of you hit the Texans winning.

Speaker 3 (42:26):
Okay, I got you.

Speaker 1 (42:27):
Let's go Texans Optimism Cup overflow its let's go. Yeah.
I mean again, it's a two to ten chance, says Vegas. Right,
so yeah, one of two could be at three thirty,
it could be on Saturday. You're telling me there's a chance.

(42:50):
It's funny though again, I'm only using one show as
an indicator, that NFL Live Show, which is not a
bad show on ESPN. I think it's after we're done,
so you could listen to it and watch it if
you wanted.

Speaker 3 (42:58):
To realize stick with the eighteen.

Speaker 1 (43:00):
Yeah, I agree, I agree eight team is much more entertaining.
But my point is that they hardly brought out the
Texans the Chiefs game, and they actually made a joke
of it towards the end of the show yesterday, They're like,
so no one cares about this game. It is Rossie.

Speaker 3 (43:13):
I mean, this is not that if we were in
their shoes, we do the exact same thing.

Speaker 1 (43:18):
It's the foregone conclusion, at least from the national perspective,
the Chiefs are one of this game tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (43:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (43:27):
Yeah, it's also got the lowest total on the board.
It should be the though it should be by those numbers,
should be the most boring game of the weekend.

Speaker 1 (43:36):
Yeah. I don't know what I need from somebody, and
it may not come from stony perspective. I didn't hear Dan,
did Dan? Dan? I think picked Orlovsky picked them to
the Chiefs.

Speaker 3 (43:48):
To one of the post games, he said, one score
game in the fourth quarter. Okay, now that sounds about
right to me. I mean that's what you want.

Speaker 1 (43:55):
I don't think you want fourteen to nothing three minutes
in with a couple of turnovers.

Speaker 3 (44:00):
Yeah, that'd be not ideal, because that's how.

Speaker 1 (44:03):
It happened last Saturday, and thankfully the Chargers were unable
to take advantage of it.

Speaker 3 (44:08):
But the text the defense played out of its mind.

Speaker 1 (44:10):
Can the Texans defense for the second consecutive week not
necessarily shocked.

Speaker 3 (44:14):
The world because they have played well like that several times?

Speaker 1 (44:16):
But the last regular season taste we had of the
Texans was getting their butts kicked by a really good
Baltimore team in Houston. And you didn't necessarily fix that
with what they did against the Titans, because that was
a lot of the substitutions. Now last week was that defense.
Last week against the Chargers can beat up anybody in

(44:36):
the NFL because you had daneil Hunter and you had
Will Anderson constantly in the face of Justin Herbert. You
had him throw, you know, throwing awkwardly, you had him
overthrowing as receivers. You had him getting rid of the
football a lot sooner. And I don't care how dynamic
you are of a quarterback, and maybe you want you know,
Pat Mahomes has won for the ages, but everybody gets rattled.

(44:57):
Pat Mahomes gets rattled.

Speaker 3 (45:00):
How do you get that?

Speaker 1 (45:01):
You just put insane amount of pressure and you keep going.
So Anderson, those guys in at front four especially have
to have a game of their lives. And I will say,
when you get there for a sack, you got to
get the ball out. It's got That's another way. Of course.
You know we always boil it down.

Speaker 6 (45:16):
Man.

Speaker 4 (45:16):
It's always oversimplified to turnover battle, but it's absolutely a
huge part of every single football game. If you can
get a fumble to go with those sacks, yep, that
will be huge.

Speaker 1 (45:27):
I'm looking at the look at the Kansas City weather
for tomorrow, and again, Kansas City is accustomed to it.

Speaker 3 (45:35):
We here in Houston are not. But the reality is
it's going to be.

Speaker 1 (45:40):
It's a huge twenty four for high tomorrow and Kansas City.

Speaker 3 (45:45):
That's fine. It's been cold a week in Houston. Bobby Slows,
it's got him ready.

Speaker 1 (45:49):
He did not say that.

Speaker 3 (45:50):
Well, he said the chill of the air is helping prepare.

Speaker 1 (45:54):
All right, So tomorrow it's three p thirty, expect the
game time temper of chair would be Let's say, if
they're saying twenty four.

Speaker 3 (46:00):
Four degrees, that's fine, put some thermal socks on and
get out there.

Speaker 1 (46:08):
Twenty four And I'm curious about the wins. They're saying
wins would be. Let me look, the reason why I
bring this up is because.

Speaker 3 (46:15):
Last I saw is between ten and twenty miles an hour. Yeah,
that's not good for us. That's not part of the
Texans offense. You don't want it over fifteen. But yeah,
if you know you're taking the ball out of Pat
mahomes hand as well as c J. Stroud Texans run game.

Speaker 4 (46:29):
I was worried about Kymie Favbran. That's what I was
thinking about. Oh that's okay. Harrison Bucker's been terrible since
he came back from his injury.

Speaker 1 (46:36):
Been hurt a lot this year.

Speaker 3 (46:37):
To you, he's been hurting and then came back from
his injury and he hasn't been hasn't been great.

Speaker 1 (46:40):
So all right, eleven O six Sports Talk seven and
we'll go to Kansas City on our next segment. Right now,
let's talk to Martin and Angleton on the Matt Thomas
Shows Rawson This we call it Anything Goes Friday. Martin,
good morning to you.

Speaker 13 (46:53):
Hey everyone, good Friday. Before I get to my two
comments about the WNBA and the NHL, I just want
to say last year twenty twenty four was terrible in
the respect that we lost Howard for Memorial last spring
in twenty twenty four by March or April, and then

(47:13):
last November we lost Missus Carroll and you know, these
people were just fantastic and it was just terrible that way.
But anyway, I want to get to my comments, and
my comments are I want the NHL to come to
Houston and I want the WNBA comments to come back
to Houston. Hello, do I know anything about the volleyball

(47:52):
league coming up? Is it all women or is it men?
Or is it mixture or what's the deal with that?

Speaker 1 (48:14):
Thank you, Martin seven one three two one two five
seven nine. Of course he's speaking of Love Volleyball League
one volleyball. It's all women.

Speaker 3 (48:22):
L o v don't word you were disconnected for a second.
Actually no, no, no, I would.

Speaker 1 (48:26):
Never disconnect from you, Rossie. I mean mentally, yes, technically
no before l o VB dot com. L o VB
dot com. Check it out, Martin, and rest in peace
to Howard of Memorial and to our friend Ms. Carrol.

Speaker 3 (48:44):
Yes, and rest in peace to the Houston comments.

Speaker 1 (48:50):
Yeah, I mean, I mean, I don't mean to This
isn't a gut feeling. I think it's just kind of
a it's just gonna eventually happen. I think we're gonna
get both in this town.

Speaker 3 (49:00):
I just don't know.

Speaker 1 (49:00):
I have no idea on a timeline.

Speaker 3 (49:03):
I'd say w NBA feels more imminent.

Speaker 1 (49:06):
Probably so. And because you have your you could you
could start a WNBA franchise tomorrow.

Speaker 4 (49:11):
We can bring you back on the games. Matt, I
mean I did the heritage. Yeah, the heritage announcer. Do
we have you in the Comets Hall of Fame?

Speaker 3 (49:18):
Uh, there is no such thing as a Comets Hall
of Fame.

Speaker 4 (49:21):
We should get you in there. Let's found one with
you in the in the class. Is there a Houston
Sports Hall of Fame?

Speaker 3 (49:26):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (49:27):
Am I in it?

Speaker 8 (49:28):
No?

Speaker 1 (49:29):
Am I ever gonna be in it?

Speaker 3 (49:30):
Yeah, they're they're running low on candidates. I think after
the first few years. It's Hakeem olajuwon, It's Clyde Drexler.
Welcome to the Houston Sports Hall of Fame.

Speaker 6 (49:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (49:41):
The reality is the Houston sports people they overshot there.
You know what's a little soon? It's Casey Kandell and
a posthumous induction of Jimmy Williams.

Speaker 8 (49:53):
What what.

Speaker 3 (49:57):
That's terrible?

Speaker 1 (50:01):
Four?

Speaker 3 (50:03):
Go ahead, calvocado jus too soon?

Speaker 1 (50:12):
Ah my gosh, that's crazy. Yeah, they they went way
too aggressive. You gotta when you open up a hall
of fame and you got I mean you got a
lot of people in it, that's fine, but you gotta
slow play the thing. Now they're putting in.

Speaker 3 (50:28):
Like equipment managers, and they're putting.

Speaker 1 (50:30):
In like twice Torol going in. I mean, why did
orbit not get in before him. Why didn't Turbo back
in the nineties championship days get in? I mean, but
if they're gonna open up to the media, I'm going
to nominate myself.

Speaker 3 (50:44):
We know you are, Matt As if there was any doubt, Well,
I can't.

Speaker 1 (50:50):
Get you to help me.

Speaker 3 (50:52):
I told you, if you pay the fifty bucks for
me to get into Texas Radio Hall of Fame, I
will nominate you. Yeah, I'm good.

Speaker 1 (50:57):
I don't.

Speaker 3 (50:58):
I don't even be paying for subscriptions for stuff.

Speaker 1 (51:00):
I don't. I mean, I don't want to join any
more clubs. I'm in too many club as it is.

Speaker 3 (51:04):
You're not in any club.

Speaker 1 (51:05):
You don't know that.

Speaker 3 (51:09):
Yeah, you're in the tailor subscription club. And that's it.
I do not follow her just to be protting to
get in trouble.

Speaker 1 (51:16):
No, no, no, never fo Yeah, there's no chance. They're
seriously as God as my witness. I've never followed Taylor
on Twitter.

Speaker 3 (51:24):
That's because you knew you were gonna get in trouble.

Speaker 1 (51:26):
Well, yeah, I mean, I don't anybody looking at it,
See who's Matt's following.

Speaker 3 (51:30):
I got normal people on there. I don't have large
chests and women by the way, Matt, why are you
following this? Taylor methis gambling picks exactly up. By the way,
if you notice on the four you tab look at
my photo in four K?

Speaker 1 (51:46):
Is that a scam?

Speaker 4 (51:48):
No, it's not a scam. I don't even know. Is
there like something they add when it's in four K?
I didn't even click it.

Speaker 1 (51:53):
I don't even either, because it looks at me. I'm
not touching anything as blurry put it that way just
for my own sake of my phone.

Speaker 4 (51:58):
Day by day and cree singly old man shakes fist
at cloud like. I'm like, no, I'm not going with
your little social media trope of load and four K.

Speaker 3 (52:07):
I think I did it once.

Speaker 1 (52:08):
What did you just say?

Speaker 3 (52:09):
Load in four K? You're supposed to load the photo
in four K?

Speaker 1 (52:13):
Matt?

Speaker 3 (52:13):
What are you talking about? I don't know how to
load anything, okay, especially in four K? And call you
no load? Thomas.

Speaker 1 (52:23):
Sorry, Petro, Kansas City sports radio icon who has had
Ross on many times on his show, but obviously not
enough for this week. I'm gonna call him out on it.

Speaker 3 (52:33):
No, they're busy, They're not busy.

Speaker 1 (52:37):
All they're talking about is the chiefs Texans. They have
no basketball team.

Speaker 3 (52:42):
Maybe they're overlooking it too.

Speaker 1 (52:43):
They have no hockey team. Maybe you can't just basketball loss?
What the hell?

Speaker 8 (52:47):
Up?

Speaker 1 (52:47):
And the Royals suck? What do they do it here?

Speaker 3 (52:50):
The Royals made the playoffs, didn't they? Or got close?

Speaker 1 (52:52):
They actually did they? Yeah, we thought they were gonna
come to Houston. Then the Tigers came here and then
kick the ass. Sorry Petro, Sorry, isn't a enterprising young fellow?

Speaker 3 (53:04):
All right, well it'll join us next.

Speaker 1 (53:06):
Our time is let's see Central Time eleven thirteen on
Sports Talk seven ninety. Well, I am here to again
a spotlight some players for you with Draft Kings Pick six.
Lots of NFL playoff action this weekend. I'm just saying,
did go two and oh last week? Let's see if
we can go two and oh again. My picks this weekend.

Speaker 4 (53:28):
Jared Goff less than two hundred and seventy two and
a half passing yards versus the Commanders can't figure out
which running back to go with, So how about I
go with Jared Goff less than two hundred and seventy
two and a half passing yards. You have those running backs.
Washington ranks twenty sixth and rushing DVAWA. Lions are going
to be establishing the run. Baker Mayfield last week went

(53:49):
more than sixty yards less than his total because the
Bucks were gashing the Commanders on the run. Lions are
going to do the same. Commanders allowing an average of
one point nine zero yards before contact. That's a Gibbs
and Montgomery runway down the field. That's twenty eighth in
the NFL. Add it all up. I like Jared Goff
less than two hundred and seventy two and a half
passing yards. I also am going to go with Kareem

(54:10):
Hunt less than thirty two and a half rushing yards.
Last year in the playoffs, Andy Reid was leaning heavily
on Isaiah Pacheco. He's had those three weeks to rest
Texans again. Third in rush defense DVA. Kareem Hunt fiftieth
out of fifty six among qualifying running backs with yards
after contact, so there's a very low chance of explosive

(54:31):
runs from him. Andy Reid is going to establish the run.
He's also going to go with a lot of screens
in short passing game. That means not a whole lot
of Kareem Hunt. I'm going with less than thirty two
and a half rushing yards for him. If you haven't
checked out the DraftKings Pick six app, now is the
perfect time to do it during the playoffs. It's legal

Speaker 2 (55:42):
The Matt TAAs Show with Ross continue so on Sports
Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (55:52):
Time is eleven eighteen. It is the Bat Thomas Show
with Ross. I'm here in Portland, where last night the
Rockets didn't play here, but we were down at Sacramento
and the Kings getting a victory against the Hated Well,
the hated Kings beating the Rockets last night, ending a
road trip, and that we got one more game left
with Portland that's tomorrow night. Rockets had won seven consecutive

(56:16):
games away from the Tote Center, five game overall win
streak comes to an end. A second time visitor to
the radio show in the last four weeks, and we
are happy to have Soren Petro on the I mean
the krem Dela Creme of Kansas City Sports Radio. By
the way, Soren, thanks for having Ross on your show
so much the last couple of years. He has invoiced

(56:36):
you with a payment for weekly appearances. Apparently your ratings
have gone up. When Ross comes in your show every
time to talk Houston Texans football.

Speaker 6 (56:45):
Huge spike, huge spike. People cannot get up. They say,
we don't really care about the Texans, but it's just
that that Ross. I mean, he is so eloquent the
way he delivers it. I could listen to him for hours.
That's how it shows.

Speaker 1 (56:56):
The reality is Soren. That's an AI version. You're getting
a Ross. The real Ross work with every day. Frankly
disappoints me in a daily basis. So I don't know. Hey,
a thought or two about the wrap of the season,
and we had a member of the Kansadity Star editorial
staff on the show earlier this week. The long layoff,

(57:16):
we're looking at about what three weeks since relevant football
was played by the Chiefs. Let me ask your level
of concern about the guys not being crisp to open
things up, say around three point thirty five on Saturday afternoon.

Speaker 6 (57:29):
Yeah, I think it's a unique situation with the Christmas
Day game being midweek, so you get half a week there,
then the following game didn't matter, so it's twenty four days.
I mean, I think it's more than anybody would probably like.
But I think the alternative of trying to spot some
you know, snaps here and there for some guys against
a Denver team that really came out trying to make
a statement knowing that they were getting backups, and I think,

(57:51):
you know, we're coming full bore for the Chiefs. I
don't think would be wise. The Chiefs are getting older
from in some of their key spots, Travis Chelsea, ben One,
Chris Jones also got a three in front of his
age now and of course you never want jeopardize the quarterback.
So look, I don't think it's ideal, but I don't
think they really in their mind had a choice. They
were gonna rest guys. They don't want to risk the injury.

(58:13):
And if they come out and they're rusty and the
Texans win, then maybe they'll look at doing it differently.
They pretty much did what they always do, but they've
got extra time this time. They just had even more
time than they would normally have.

Speaker 1 (58:23):
Soarre and Petrack with us from sports Radio eight ten
WHB in Kansas City, the source to go to for
all things Kansas City sports. So so, and they've gone
through this and before, I mean, this is not out
of the ordinary for long breaks. Tell me what you know.
And again, granted you're not inside the facility and watching
daily practice, but how does Andy Reid manage this. You
mentioned of an older football team, and you also we've

(58:45):
talked about this when you were with us a few
weeks ago. It has been a season where you haven't
had You've had very few dominating performances. A lot of
games have come down to the final two minutes or
in some cases the final play. What has it been
like for Andy to get guys motivated, fired up to
go win a third straight and on top of that,
get an older football team to get their proper rests

(59:06):
so they're not feel like they're overwhelmed when they play
this game tomorrow.

Speaker 6 (59:10):
Well, and I think you know he's been through it before.
He's been very good coming off of bye week, so
he's got a formula for that. Like we said, this
is not just a fourteen day. There's an extra ten
days that have thrown into it, so the dynamics are different.
The vibe that I've heard is that they like to
put the pads on at least once and have a
fairly physical practice each week. Right now, normally that's just
the one week that they're off that that's what they

(59:32):
try to do to maintain, you know, the football edge,
to be sharp. They did it a couple of times.
They did it each week that they were off, and
I think they feel like that's their formula to make
sure that you don't get too far away from it. Listen,
I nobody at Brest was great. Everyone had looked great
in Week one, but we often see terrible football Week
one of the NFL, So.

Speaker 3 (59:50):
It is a real story.

Speaker 6 (59:51):
But I think Andy Reid has a formula. They elongated
that formula. They practiced in pads and save those practices
because there's a limited number that you can have. They
save those practice for this time of the year knowing
that there was the potential for this kind of break
and so they had the padded practices to use and
they're hoping that will be the key to keep them
sharp going into this game.

Speaker 4 (01:00:10):
And what do you make of Pat Mahomes' season? Sore
and it's been start of the season. There was a
lot of the close games. He wasn't playing as well.
The weapons aren't the same as as they were in
years past. But at the same time, this guy still
of course has every single accolade you could possibly have
at this stage of his career, and it just seems
like he took a step back.

Speaker 3 (01:00:29):
Is that how you view it.

Speaker 6 (01:00:31):
No, I viewed as his weaponry around him took a
step back, and his protection took a step back. I mean,
does he walk on water? Listen, there are people that
would call in and start to be like, well, mahomes
got a mahomes going to do that. I'm like, listen,
it's every fans lament. The best guy on the team
suddenly has to do more when things aren't going well.
Nobody ever wants to call up. It's like there's no
money in calling up and saying the backup guy that

(01:00:53):
dropped the ball sucks and they got to get better there.
Nobody wants to do that. They want to they want
to talk and talk about the stars. And so there
was a little bit about Pat's got to do this,
and I immediately shut them down and say, the problem
is not after a home again. It's not that he's infallible,
it's not that he never makes a mistake.

Speaker 3 (01:01:08):
He does, But the.

Speaker 6 (01:01:10):
Problem is what's going on around it. The problem is
left Tackle has been a train wreck. Kingsley Suamatilla was terrible.
Wanya Morris was better for a while, but he became
bad in the end. You're probably going to see Joe
Tony Joe Tone. He played against the Texans last time
and they gave up just one sack.

Speaker 1 (01:01:23):
I mean, he is better.

Speaker 9 (01:01:24):
Suited for guard.

Speaker 6 (01:01:25):
He's the best pass blocking guarden football. But he'll do
a solid job over there on the left side. And
since they've done that, they've they've played their best ball.
They won by fourteen, by eight, and then slapped the
Steelers around, winning by fourteen again. So their best results
have come since they put him at left tackle. I
think that is an improvement for them. We'll see if
DJ Humphreys factors in. I just think they didn't end
up with his injury having time to get him ready

(01:01:47):
to be the left tackle. So I think it will
be Tony at left tackle, and then Hollywood Brown. It
came back I think in that game with the Texans.
If not, it was the one before. He really kind
of puts everybody back in place. When Justin Watson is
your second or third wide receiver, there's a real problem. Well,
when he goes back to being your fourth wide receiver,
he can beat the fourth best cover guy, right. He
can do some things there. So getting DeAndre Hopkins, who
they didn't have to start the year getting him fully

(01:02:09):
ingrained in the offense, getting Hollywood Brown back and up
to speed and healthy, and then the development of Xavier
Worthy as a rookie. Look, they missed Rushie Rice, There's
no doubt about it. They'd be better with them. But
now they've added DeAndre Hopkins to the mix, they got
Hollywood brownbacker, they didn't have the game of the season.
This is the best receiving core that they've had all
year long. It's the deepest, and I think he gives
Mahomes the best chance to be productive, and his numbers

(01:02:32):
have gone way up. I think he was leading the
NFL in interceptions he had through six or seven weeks
of the season. He's only had two or three over
the last half plus of the season. And so I
think we've seen as the talent around him has gotten better,
he's gotten better.

Speaker 4 (01:02:45):
Soarm pet Trow Sports Radio eight to ten WHB in
Kansas City with us here on Sports Talk seven to ninety,
and let's just flip it on our side with the quarterback.
Just your outside views somewhat similar here in Houston that
a quarterback that we thought was a franchise I somewhat
taken a step back, but did perform well over the weekend.
Just from your view, from how you see it, CJ.

(01:03:06):
Stroud as a franchise quarterback.

Speaker 6 (01:03:09):
Well, I love anybody who will stand in against the rush,
and I think you can't have a Calard playing quarterback,
and so they don't have that.

Speaker 8 (01:03:16):
C J.

Speaker 6 (01:03:17):
Stroud has got a pair when he drops back and
he's willing to stand in, and I think that's an
important part of the equation. You have to be willing
to take the heads and he is that, and I
think so toughness is a big part of it. He's
got leadership, he has great touch, he has touch under duress.
You know, there are a lot of things. When I
watched him in that stretch run last year, I'm like, oh,
this kind of reminds me of some of the things

(01:03:38):
I've seen for Patrick Mahomes. This kid's really good. And
he had a sophomore something. I'm a home second year.
You know, he had five and fifteen. His first year
was league MVP, so he expected some kind of regression
and it was there. Teams adjusted to him. We also
got hurt for a few games, so the numbers don't
really tell the whole story. He dislocated his kneecap, but
then he came back and won a championship. I mean,

(01:03:58):
you know that a run coming from CJ. Stroud, you know,
big so here in Kansas City, right. I think it's
a tough challenge. Momes didn't have to go through Patrick
Mahomes to get to the championship in twenty nineteen.

Speaker 3 (01:04:10):
So but I like to kill a lot.

Speaker 6 (01:04:13):
I think you know, they adjusted to them. It's a
little bit of the batter pitcher syndrome where you know, Okay,
we've seen what your fastball is. We're gonna look at
the other pitches now and we're gonna not swing at
the curve ball. And then now he's got to make
some adjustments and the Texans offense has got to make
some adjustments. And they were a young team. I think
somewhat the expectations this year. They're a victim of their
own success. They shouldn't have probably been quite as successful

(01:04:36):
as they were in year one, and this is probably
where they should be in year two. And then next
year is the year you see, Okay, are they going
to join the Buffalo Baltimore? Kansas City is the real
beast of the AFC. They've already you know, dominated the
AFC South, What are they going to be one of
the teams, because I think right now, and they have
a chance to rewrite this this weekend in Kansas City.
Right now, they're kind of viewed as Okay, they're the

(01:04:58):
commercial filler, right, She's got to play somebody. But really,
the AFC is about Buffalo, it's about Baltimore, and it's
about Kansas City. If I were Houston, i'd use that
as a motivation, and you know, the spreads speak to
that back. I think they've got a chance to really
take a big step right now. But I think realistically
next year is probably the year. Because the Chiefs had
everything up and running around Patrick Mahomes. He got dropped

(01:05:20):
into a ready made situation where he had Tyreek Hill
and Travis Kelce and at that time, they had Mitchell Schwartz,
the best right tackle in football and a quality left
tackle and Eric Fisher and you know, they'd added Seespagnolo
over on the defensive side to fix their problems defensively.
They were ready to win and the Texans weren't that
when CJ. Stroud got there. So I think you've got
to grade him on a little bit different.

Speaker 1 (01:05:37):
Curve, sir for let you go, give me where you are.
I was we were talking about the wins, and look,
the Texas have used Kymie fairbarn is a huge part
of their offense, especially fifty plus, but especially inside dome facilities.
Where's Harrison Butker right now? I know he was hindered
this year. The efficiency hasn't been as good as years passed.
Where's the conference level that if this thing goes down

(01:06:00):
in the last couple of minutes that Bucker and or
Fairband would be a huge part of this game.

Speaker 6 (01:06:06):
Well, Bucker has been mister automatic. I mean he's had
some monster kicks even earlier this year. In Week two
against the Bengals, you know, Andy Reid got to like,
where was a forty nine yard field goal? Plowed into
the line twice and let him line it up from
fifty one to the game winner. I mean, he had
that kind of confidence that fifty is pretty much automatic,
and that's how he was. He was incredible. He was
better than Justin Tucker last We know Tucker's falling off

(01:06:27):
this year, but he was the best kicker in football
last year and he's made a ton of really big
kicks to win games. And long distance kicks when they
needed it in the game. You know, he has the
set the record for longest postseason field goal in the
Super Bowl right after it was set right before him.
But he's not the same I mean, so you know,
I don't know what the elements will do. You know,

(01:06:48):
for everybody else, they won't be a problem for Harrison Bucker.
But the reality is, I don't know that the knees healthy.
He's kind of dropping down as he falls through. He
hasn't been as accurate coming down the stretch, and so
I think it's a real question. I think it's something
that Andy Reid eats to fact or fourth and five,
where you're gonna line up a fifty one yarder, no problem,
We're taking the three points. They're automatic. Harrison Bucker's out there.

(01:07:09):
That's how it used to be. Now I think you
got to really think about leaving the offense out there,
getting closer and playing more for touchdowns because I think
Harrison Bucker is more of a wildcard. So it puts
more on Andy Reid's plate in his game management part
of things, because I don't think maybe he'll have that
great game and go five for five, it'll be a
field goal fest, and you know three of those will

(01:07:29):
be from forty eight plus and everyone will say, Okay,
he's back to normal. But going into this game, I
don't think you can plan that he's mister automatic the
way he was before he injured his knee earlier this year.

Speaker 3 (01:07:40):
All right, very last question. It's non football related.

Speaker 1 (01:07:42):
It's going to be Taylor Swift, and we apologize much
in advance. Does she literally come into town, see your
boy play and leave? Does she do TV stations chase
after her where she's hanging out? What is it like
to have that kind of megastar following your beloved football team?

Speaker 6 (01:08:01):
Not really, I mean Travis lives like about it's about
probably a mile and a half from where I do.
I don't live in the same neighborhood. I'll point out
just proximity. Let me let me be clear, we live
in different neighbor My neighborhood's fine. I like my neighborhood.
But he lives in a very exclusive gated community. But
I drive by where the gate is where you go

(01:08:22):
back in to get to his house, and there's another
really exclusive neighborhood right next to him called Hallbrook. That
house actually is on their their golf course, and so
it's a fancy little you know, I don't know what.

Speaker 3 (01:08:31):
You call it, quadrant.

Speaker 6 (01:08:32):
They're in town and you don't see the Kansas City stations,
but you know, you got a pretty good idea when
she's in town because there will be just regular cars
parked to the entrance to the gated community, which we
assume is like national paparazzi that are trying to get
a photo of her. So no, the local media doesn't
I know, the guys that you know, I go on
one of the TV stations here and they're not usually

(01:08:53):
down there following around. They pretty much let her come
and go as she pleases. And there's several different private
jet airports that they can that she can get into,
and so they don't really stake those out seeing when
she's here. But there is a whole deal. They kind
of line everybody up at the stadium knowing that if
she's gonna walk in and and she's pretty gracious from
the standpoint that she knows everybody wants to get a shot.

(01:09:15):
So she kind of does the walk down and you know,
into the and the tunnel and heads up and does
it all. So it's I think it's you know, we're
kind of a sleepy town here, and I think that
probably works well for them.

Speaker 1 (01:09:26):
Well, if you're looking for an average quarter hour boost
on your show today, Ross is available. He's going on
and the station is Saskatchewan. But as soon as he's
done with that, he'll be happy to join you at
any point today.

Speaker 6 (01:09:37):
Maybe.

Speaker 1 (01:09:38):
Yeah, whatever, You're lucky to be in Saskatchewan. The reality is,
I don't know, sore On. Are you a Kansas Jayhawk fan?
Are you indifferent to them?

Speaker 8 (01:09:46):
Well?

Speaker 6 (01:09:47):
I grew up here in Kansas City, but I went
to Syracuse, so I don't really cover Yeah, yeah, serious,
Yeah yet another I know, trust me, I listen and
I don't And I don't begrudge you for that reaction
action because the Syracuse guys drive me Backcraft crazy too,
So uh, you know, I got I got no problem
with that reaction. But yes, I'm not a k You guy.

(01:10:08):
I don't hate him, but I'm.

Speaker 6 (01:10:26):

Petro w HP Kansas City Ross. I'm trying to get
you a job up there is.

Speaker 3 (01:10:37):

rid of me again?

Speaker 1 (01:10:40):
Well, I think you know, I kind of like the show.
It was just a Matt Thomas show. Your name is
and a lot to it, So you know, you know what, Kurt,
you know what? All right, all right, careful what you
wish for. You're not going You can't quit me.

Speaker 9 (01:10:53):
You just can't.

Speaker 3 (01:10:55):
Careful what you wish for. Matthew, You're not in this town.

Speaker 1 (01:11:00):
Oh my god, I'll love everybody that's been failed radio
hosts on.

Speaker 3 (01:11:13):
You can't, they can't have you. They love me and Regina,
and I love Regina back.

Speaker 1 (01:11:17):
You do love you some Regina seven one three two
one two five seven ninety seven one three two one
two five seven eight eight's and anything Goes Friday Here
on the program, we wake the strippers up and coming
up in about twenty five minutes. We have non Florida
stories today at one thirty and the Helly Air Not
all Things Bob Ucker seven one three two one two

(01:11:38):
five seven ninety eleven thirty three here on Sports Talk
seven ninety all right, he is eleven thirty eight of
Sports Talk seven NINTI Matt Thomas with you from a Portland,
Oregon where the Rockets Small Night will take on the Blazers.
I think literally everybody in this whole tell is sleeping

(01:12:00):
right now, ross or doing other sorts of activities. You
get in it. Why one five in the morning. I
think I'm the only part of the traveling party this
a week.

Speaker 3 (01:12:10):
Oh that's my traveling party.

Speaker 1 (01:12:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:12:13):
I felt like Coachy Doka might be up. Look at
a tape.

Speaker 1 (01:12:17):
Yell.

Speaker 8 (01:12:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:12:18):
People were on Rockets Twitter last night were really gruppy
towards the officials you helped me. I mean, I'm you
know me, I'm not a big referee basher, and I look,
there may have been some calls that were really cheapies
late and especially if you're making a comeback.

Speaker 3 (01:12:33):
But was that more of hey, I want to make
sure this comeback is complete, or is it a case
where the referee really screwed screw the last second call
against Dylan Brooks that type of contact. And Emao Adoka's
complained after the game was that they were letting heavy
contact go all game and then they switched it up,
which I get because if you get used to a

(01:12:53):
really strong physical game, you know, that's how the NBA
players they see if the rest are calling a bunch
of fouls early, they back off.

Speaker 4 (01:13:00):
It gets more physical if they don't. So I understand
his gright. But on that particular play where people are
saying that the Rockets got screwed by the referees, that
was a foul. I think that's something they if Dylan
Brooks doesn't steal that ball, they let it go. But
since he stole the ball, and he stole the ball
because of that extra contact, was it on Fox or
Monk or whoever.

Speaker 3 (01:13:22):
There was a foul.

Speaker 9 (01:13:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:13:24):
I to me, I looked at the replays and I
didn't see anything that made me think, oh my god,
the other Astros or Rockets are getting screwed on this.

Speaker 4 (01:13:33):
The advantage gained from stealing that ball. Yeah, it was
Malik Monk. It was eight point two seconds left. Dylan
Brooks steals the inbounds, but they call a foul on
him because he pulled Malik Monk by the elbow.

Speaker 1 (01:13:48):
Yeah, unfortunately. And the big problem was is that the
the Kings made every three throw. I mean, there was
no drama because I kept hitting him one after the other.
I mean every single one of them were knocking him down.

Speaker 3 (01:14:00):
Rockets, on the other hand, miss seven out of seventeen
to twenty four. They went, that's the albe Shingun seventy
five percent free throw guy.

Speaker 1 (01:14:09):
I need him back Bross please. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:14:13):
At least Jalen Green's been knocking down like ninety five
percent on him recently.

Speaker 9 (01:14:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:14:17):
Oh he's I think he missed one last up, but
he's got like probably what he's made probably twenty of
his last twenty one something like that.

Speaker 4 (01:14:23):
Twenty for twenty two from the Kings, seventeen of twenty
four from the Rockets, including a couple of miss by
Tarry Easton and three missed by alpry Chengoon.

Speaker 3 (01:14:33):
There was a reporter that was at.

Speaker 1 (01:14:35):
The game last night that worked for the Sacramento radio
station that and it was on my four you tabs.
I'm trying to find it. He I think it's a
misread on the Rockets, and I want to read it
to you, but I'm going to find in the next
break because it was really bizarre. And it was basically
that he thinks that the Rockets are a team that

(01:14:56):
could easily implode. And I was like, man, that is
something that.

Speaker 3 (01:15:00):
Did he use the word implode? No, but it was
just he said volatile, volatile. Yeah, And like I said,
I don't.

Speaker 1 (01:15:06):
I don't want to.

Speaker 3 (01:15:07):
I want to read you the exact try before so
I get it right.

Speaker 4 (01:15:09):
But yeah, in twenty eighteen they're volatile. Well eighteen they're
really good, but be for around that era because they
took fifty threes per game.

Speaker 1 (01:15:16):
Yeah, there me good. Two that's stupid. I want to Okay, yeah,
let me read it. I don't so I don't miss
quote because we don't need that on the show.

Speaker 3 (01:15:24):
Thank you.

Speaker 1 (01:15:25):
We're nothing about accuracy. Chris and Cyprus at eleven forty
two on seven ninety Chris, good morning to.

Speaker 9 (01:15:31):
You, Good morning, good morning.

Speaker 5 (01:15:34):
I want to talk about an elephant that we all
know is in the room when it comes to my
homes and uh, this game this weekend, he's got a weird,
little tricky move that he does and he appears to
give himself well just to stop the defense.

Speaker 1 (01:15:49):
Either wait, starting to slide.

Speaker 5 (01:15:51):
He'll stop the defense, or if it appears he's staffing
out of bounds, he'll stop the defense. Well, he's the
only one that knows he's not giving himself.

Speaker 1 (01:15:58):
Up, but he's just to give up move.

Speaker 9 (01:16:01):
And what do you do with those points?

Speaker 5 (01:16:03):
Do you hit him and take the penalties or do
you let him carry on up the field for forty
five or fifty more yards?

Speaker 9 (01:16:09):
And I'm gonna hang up and listen.

Speaker 3 (01:16:14):
Is he saying that he is trying to get the
extra yards, you know, so he doesn't get hit.

Speaker 4 (01:16:17):
I mean no, Mahomes has done that a few times
where he's kind of faked like he's going out of
bounds and then he turns upfield. I was actually watching
him closely. I wonder if somebody's talked to him, because
at least I'm not watching, you know, full breaking down
every snap of mahomes tape. But at least in that
Texans game against the Chiefs, he was going down. He
wasn't fake sliding, he was going out of bounds. I
wonder if there's been some sort of conversation about that,

(01:16:40):
or I don't even know if if even cares or
or he could break it down in a big moment.
Maybe he's keeping it in the back pocket for you know,
for an important drive in a big playoff game. It's
something he's done before. And Josh Allen has done it
a bunch too. Those two are the worst two offenders
that come to my mind, right, or then can he
pick it? Did it in college and they created a

(01:17:01):
rule against it. But yeah, it's happened before. But it's
not like I don't think it's top of mind for
the matchup this weekend. You know, we were think it's
an elephant in the room, let's put it that way.

Speaker 1 (01:17:12):
Yeah, I mean, so you're assuming that that he's gonna
do something magical this weekend. I mean I'd be a
role stunter by Mahomes do something that he's never done before.

Speaker 4 (01:17:19):
It's where he fakes like he's gonna go out of bound,
so the defense lets up because they don't want to
get a penalty, and then he cuts up field.

Speaker 3 (01:17:25):
He's done that a couple of times.

Speaker 1 (01:17:26):
Yeah, And let me ask you, this is that going
to inspire other people that are trying to be defenders
of the defense to say, hey, this is the reason
why we got to be a little more careful when
we thought.

Speaker 4 (01:17:36):
That's why they should make a rule against it. But
then it's it's a judgment call. You're gonna have to
have referees like, did he make an honest spin moves?

Speaker 3 (01:17:42):
It's kind of the water is.

Speaker 1 (01:17:43):
Almost like it sound like an NBA flop, but it's
but faking things out. Can you eliminate fake juke moves?

Speaker 3 (01:17:52):
I don't think you can do that.

Speaker 4 (01:17:54):
Yeah, exactly, because I mean quarterbacks there are some that
you know, hey, yeah, Pat Mahomes might in earnest make
a move where he's just going right and cuts left
and that's natural. Then people think, oh, well he was
gonna slide and I don't.

Speaker 3 (01:18:06):
I don't know. It's it's tough.

Speaker 1 (01:18:07):
We'll put it this way. Flag on the play. Let's
go to our Bill Videtich. That's a guy I knowing
these days, Bill Villatic, Bill Titch. What he got penalty?
Kansas City.

Speaker 4 (01:18:19):
Juke, illegal juke, fake slide, dishonest play, unsportsmanlike conduct, fake slide.

Speaker 3 (01:18:28):
That's not very sportsmanlike that.

Speaker 1 (01:18:29):
But that seems bizarre.

Speaker 3 (01:18:31):
He conducted himself in an unsportsman like manna.

Speaker 1 (01:18:36):
Foul.

Speaker 3 (01:18:37):
He went left, went right, ten penalty. Also, no, we can't.

Speaker 4 (01:18:41):
Line can be blurred, but when it's happened a few times,
it has been obvious to where he completely slows up
and then gets to this close to the sideline and
then cuts up field.

Speaker 3 (01:18:50):
How about this? Can I just give you this answer?
Life's not fair?

Speaker 1 (01:18:53):
Quarterbacks get more liberties and defensive lineman or of course
we just talking to that. Yeah, and you know what,
that's what I'm gonna do because I'm not I don't
want to see an NFL world where a receiver, a
running back, a quarterback. I mean, no, this, you're you're

(01:19:15):
going through some really muddy waters. We start to try
to do that, I mean just have to raise his hands,
Sam giving him myself.

Speaker 3 (01:19:21):
Yeah, that's what he should. That's when we got flag football.

Speaker 4 (01:19:24):
Okay, how about we give him a white hanky and
he can wave it and he's down when he dies.
He's down when he pulls in the white hanky.

Speaker 3 (01:19:29):
What if he puts his head on his helmet, It's
like a like a quarterback fair catch. It's oh, I
like that.

Speaker 1 (01:19:34):
He fair catches. He gives himself up, gives himself up. Now, no,
we're not We're not doing this. We're any of this conversation.
All right, I found the quote from the Sacramento radio
host We'll take you about the Sacramento radio hosts. They
have radio there.

Speaker 3 (01:19:45):
Yeah, I mean Regina's got it. Are they hiring?

Speaker 1 (01:19:48):
I mean, it's okay, it's I mean, it's not really California.
What's the cost of living in Sacktown. I mean it's
cheaper than La and San Francisco. But what is down?

Speaker 3 (01:19:57):
I mean it's still expressed, so was Monico at this point.

Speaker 1 (01:20:00):
That's true seven one three, two, one two, five seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (01:21:49):
All right, so the guy that's hosts the show and again,
look we put things on Twitter for commentary and it's
spark interest. I mean, that's nothing out of the ordinary.
Guy named Alan Styles, he hosts ten to two. He's
a ten to two guy two Ross on eleven.

Speaker 3 (01:22:05):
Our mortal enemy.

Speaker 1 (01:22:08):
What's his name?

Speaker 3 (01:22:09):
Harry Styles?

Speaker 1 (01:22:10):
Alan Styles?

Speaker 3 (01:22:11):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (01:22:13):
He says the Rockets are very talented team, but they're
extremely volatile. They're yelling at each other, showing each other up.
He may seems to complain a lot, feels very aa
youish hmmm. Rockets Twitter went after him big though.

Speaker 3 (01:22:29):
Oh wow, Rockets Twitter. I'm gonna tell you, lord, you
get sideways of Rockets Coater it'll come at to you quick.

Speaker 4 (01:22:37):
If you want an avalanche of hate, go after Rockets Twitter.

Speaker 1 (01:22:41):
I think, yeah, that's funny, that's absolutely right. So let
me read some of his replies. Coach got a King's
got a coach fired a month ago, laughing, laughing, laughing. Uh,
let's see, you just allowed almost one hundred and thirty
from an AAU team. And then guy and then Allen
says and caught the l literally a AU laughing, laughing, laughing.

(01:23:03):
Let's see here.

Speaker 3 (01:23:05):
Your future is so bright, but you're here crying in
the comments.

Speaker 1 (01:23:08):
Why oh oh he now he's he's pouring it on.
Good gracious. Uh, clearly you don't watch the Rockets brothers
stick to that sports team down on the bottom of
the standings.

Speaker 8 (01:23:22):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (01:23:22):
Something called Pa pack eye text and says it's called
being competitive. Not a topic you know much about. Let's
see here, Kings haven't wont anything significance in the association
since two thousand and four.

Speaker 3 (01:23:35):
Feels very AAUI ish. Something called Mike the Johnson says,
ninth nice dog whistle o at slam whitmore ROSSI there's
a slam witmore on Twitter.

Speaker 1 (01:23:51):
The rest sucked your blank Oh and through garbage ass

Speaker 1 (01:24:11):
Let's see, I'm trying to think what else would be
really spicy here. There's a lot of f bombs, a
lot of stop sucking the blank geez yeah, a lot
of verbs in this group here, Bro, just yappin, that's rude.
Let's see, bro, a Kings fan. Kings favored by four

(01:24:33):
and a half. Refs gave them five points rigged.

Speaker 3 (01:24:40):
Wait, the Kings were favored by four and a half.
That surprises me. Look into your yard, lol, that say
nine see in the West.

Speaker 1 (01:24:54):
M Yeah, you just gotta know if you go after
a particular group of people at that fan base, that Rockets, Twitter, astros, Twitter,
text and Twitter, I mean, they're gonna they're gonna come
find you for you tabs out there for a reason.
Sports Harvey, Who's who was showing each other up? Matt?

Speaker 3 (01:25:16):
You were at the game.

Speaker 1 (01:25:19):
Let me tell you the Rockets are a spicy group
of players. I'm not gonna lie to you about that. Yeah,
but who Like, I didn't I watched the whole game.
I didn't see a Rocket player showing another Oh, no,
it's just if they're blank talking to each other, it's
because that's what they do. They this team loves each other. No,
that's it's it's just a it's a misread, is what

(01:25:41):
that was. And so a man put his opinion out
there saying that I'm seeing something that I don't get,
and he put it out there, and thus Rockets Twitter
saw it and said, bro, you're in ninth place.

Speaker 4 (01:25:56):
I mean, if he's talking about volatility, not necessarily on
the floor, but I they they get in a lot
of scraps.

Speaker 3 (01:26:02):
They're a scrappy I guess is.

Speaker 9 (01:26:03):
That what you mean?

Speaker 1 (01:26:04):
Mentality the coach?

Speaker 8 (01:26:05):
It does.

Speaker 3 (01:26:05):
Oh, but calling him an AAU operation is certainly ridiculous.

Speaker 1 (01:26:11):
First of all, if anybody's watching any AAU balls, never
defense ever played an AU game, So that's not even
a good read on that one. Allen Styles tend to
to on Sacramento's Sports Leader. I won't be checking it out,
but I'm wishing him the best and all his future endeavors. Actually,
I probably have you get the I don't rather you
get a job in Regina then it would be in Sacramento.

Speaker 3 (01:26:29):
No, it's too cold.

Speaker 1 (01:26:32):
What do you think Vagina sports talk is doing today?
Are they? Are they breaking down CFL?

Speaker 8 (01:26:36):
No?

Speaker 3 (01:26:37):
Yeah, rough Riders draft?

Speaker 11 (01:26:38):
No?

Speaker 3 (01:26:39):
I mean, what are they really doing? They have no soccer,
they have no one. They're talking about the Chiefs and
the Texas with me at three thirty six. They have
a website. I may want to listen to that. You do, No,
I'll be tapping a nap. There's no chance on. Oh, hey,
thanks for having me up there in Regina. There guys
how to edit. They've got uh, they've got minor league hockey,
the CCHL.

Speaker 9 (01:26:59):
There you go.

Speaker 1 (01:27:00):
Seriously during the break, Connor, he during the news at noon,
go to their website and see what they're like. Main
topic is the day because you're not talking.

Speaker 3 (01:27:07):
Oh, the Regina Pats are looking good there this year, Matt.

Speaker 1 (01:27:12):
Connor, are you offended by this yet?

Speaker 3 (01:27:13):
To get another stereotype by ross the Canadian accents a
little bit much. That's what I'm gonna do when I
go on.

Speaker 1 (01:27:21):
I'm happy to be there in on America's hat in
Saskatchewan there, folks.

Speaker 3 (01:27:25):
Yeah, tell them you're glad to be a part of
the fifty first state. Oh no, hang up on me. Immediately.

Speaker 1 (01:27:33):
That'll create a North American war that will be nice
and respectful and break down the Texans in chief to
the best.

Speaker 3 (01:27:38):
Of my ability.

Speaker 1 (01:27:41):
Yeah, and we're never gonna have one of their guests
on our show. Just let them know that this is
not a reciprocal situation. It's not. It's just the truth.

Speaker 3 (01:27:49):
What if we get an NHL team and then they
draft somebody from the Regina Pats.

Speaker 1 (01:27:55):
We're still not gonna do it. I'm I'm gonna makeing
this scary. I'm put my name on it. We're never
gonna have a Regia. Just catch a one yes on
the on the show.

Speaker 3 (01:28:04):
So you're eschewing the Regina, Well, not all Regina's good.

Speaker 1 (01:28:11):
Disagree, So you tell me every time you've looked at it, Regina,
it's been good.

Speaker 3 (01:28:22):
It's the top of the ar I'm walking out of
stadium a studio in the stadium.

Speaker 1 (01:28:26):
You can't. You can't walk out of the stadium. You
get two hours left to go. We're waking up. The
Stripper is next eleven fifty nine on Sports Talk seven
ninety lunchtimers.

Speaker 2 (01:28:38):
This is the Matt Thomas Show, twelve o five chound.

Speaker 10 (01:28:45):
Good.

Speaker 3 (01:28:57):
Monster and welcome down number three. I'm about Thomas show
with Ross.

Speaker 1 (01:29:07):
This is Sports Talk seven ninety. You've jumped on the
sports empty train.

Speaker 3 (01:29:11):
Look where you are now, h exactly still at the caboose.

Speaker 1 (01:29:16):
Yeah, but you're at least you're on you're in basic economy.
But you're in Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:29:20):
I see them coming to check my ticket. I'm getting
kicked off. It's too hot. Sex only should come in
a certain value. Dinner, wine, maybe a movie, flowers, not.

Speaker 4 (01:29:30):
A million and a half bucks. Yeah, what a noble cause.
By the way, doing your best keeping, Breton, Oh, that's true.
You're satisfying people across the globe. He, for whatever reason,
rage against the machine gets him in the mood and.

Speaker 5 (01:29:43):
He wonders why he's going the bench man he just
beat jacking.

Speaker 1 (01:29:47):
Excuse me?

Speaker 3 (01:29:48):
How many legitimately ugly, silent reporters are there in sports couple?

Speaker 1 (01:29:53):
Go ahead and name them.

Speaker 3 (01:29:53):
I'm waiting. We're waiting you open this up. Go I
did not open it.

Speaker 1 (01:29:57):
I said, I said how many? I am heard your question?
You should have said zero. You asked, you should have
said no. There's no ugly people being honest? Is andything
goes Friday and the Matamas Show Time is twelve oh seven.
We resume on the phones in a matter of moments,
but first we present to you at the midday top

(01:30:18):
down for the news that new. All right, now, Hi,
We're gonna lead off the news at noon with well,
the team that you call the games for.

Speaker 4 (01:30:32):
We're gonna go ahead and gift you a highlight to
make you happy. Rockets with the lost last no one highlight.
Stop stop, you're ridiculous they lost. Here's one highlight for
you for the Rockets losing.

Speaker 1 (01:30:46):
Fifteen seconds remaining, Rockets will not call the time out.
Here comes Jalen Green rights out of the floor, gonna
launch a long three pointer.

Speaker 4 (01:30:53):
It is up.

Speaker 1 (01:30:54):
It's good.

Speaker 3 (01:30:55):
One point game.

Speaker 4 (01:30:58):
That Jalen Green triple making it a one point game late,
but unfortunately, the Rockets would fall to the Kings one
at thirty two to one at twenty seven, snapping their
five game winning streak. Jalen Green with twenty eight points,
ten to twenty from the field, four of eight from
three and miss the free throw sadly, Oh well he

(01:31:20):
missed one.

Speaker 1 (01:31:21):
Feah five. They bad not bad at all? Around A
seven is bad? Alprin, Come on out, let's get back
to seventy five like you were for most of the year.

Speaker 3 (01:31:30):
Yeah, look at his career. Yeah, you can get better
to that.

Speaker 1 (01:31:34):
To me, you make me sad when you say that
water levels off look at his carewer. But people can
improve natural regression all these you know, you're him now,
Nellie as I am.

Speaker 3 (01:31:45):
Sometimes I'm not negative. I'm realistic. You're realistic Ross what
they call you.

Speaker 1 (01:31:48):
Yeah, you know what. I like that.

Speaker 3 (01:31:50):
That's alliterative. It flows off the ton nicely better than
Bettle red Ross.

Speaker 1 (01:31:54):
Probably we'll give you a poll question up that after
we continue the news at news.

Speaker 4 (01:31:57):
Oh, well, we can't get to that poll question because
we are going to continue on the news at noon.

Speaker 3 (01:32:01):
I mentioned this earlier.

Speaker 4 (01:32:02):
Matt Bobby Silowick did say that the weather in Houston
helping the Texans acclimate to what they may experience this
weekend in Kansas City.

Speaker 3 (01:32:11):
Yeah, I mean, I think it's always helpful.

Speaker 14 (01:32:13):
You know, the closer you can get to what it's
going to be like on game day, you know, the
better it's going to be for you. Obviously, when we
were out there, we got a little bit of rain
made the field a little slick for us. But like truthfully,
when when you go play in cold weather and it
gets real cold, and that field starts to freeze, it
gets a little slick, you know.

Speaker 3 (01:32:31):
So it's good training for us.

Speaker 14 (01:32:34):
And thankfully we got a little cold wave coming through
right now which is helping acclimate a little bit. But
I really think at the end of the day, we're
prepared to go play wherever we need to play, whenever
we need to play. And at the end of the day,
I think, like always, you know, we feel like it's
going to be about us and what we do.

Speaker 1 (01:32:54):
I see the current temperature in king Or in Houston
is sixty three degrees. I don't think that's gonna be
what their experience to tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (01:32:59):
But it is close enough.

Speaker 1 (01:33:01):
No, it's not. It's not ever close.

Speaker 3 (01:33:03):
You put them in a cold chamber.

Speaker 4 (01:33:05):
Maybe they should Maybe they should ice down the plane.
M That sounds like a horrible you want the entire
team to die. No, I just want the plane to
be super cold so they have to bundle up.

Speaker 3 (01:33:15):
If they ice it down, it's gonna be wighed down
to be too heavy, Matt.

Speaker 1 (01:33:18):
And they're gonna come talk about like the air conditioning
just inside the plane. Yeah, yeah, inside the plane.

Speaker 3 (01:33:22):
It's a bad idea. You and everybody had frostbitten before
they even set foot on the field. That's what you're saying.
It's called getting acclimented to game time temperatures. That's a
bad idea.

Speaker 1 (01:33:36):
By the way, do we have anybody going on a
bus or a fly? I mean, we're gonna be traveling Texans.
Listen to the show right now. Are they already up there?
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (01:33:45):
You want to go up there and sit in twenty
four degrees? I'm good?

Speaker 1 (01:33:48):
No, I mean again, your house is your best friend.
Want to come to that kind of stuff?

Speaker 4 (01:33:53):
Literally, people got frostbite last year? Was it last year
or the year before?

Speaker 9 (01:33:56):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (01:33:56):
I mean I went to a game and lost four toes.
Here's my story. That's not what I want to go
to it.

Speaker 4 (01:34:01):
Hey, man, how'd you lose those four toes? Some kind
of crazy treacher story? I went to a Chiefs game?

Speaker 3 (01:34:06):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (01:34:06):
Did you? Did you rab it on law more accident
or you cut yourself out?

Speaker 2 (01:34:10):
No?

Speaker 1 (01:34:11):
I sat in role one night.

Speaker 3 (01:34:12):
She survived in the woods for for six weeks, subsisting
on rabbits and bears.

Speaker 1 (01:34:17):
You trapped?

Speaker 3 (01:34:18):
No, just went to a game. Oh cool?

Speaker 1 (01:34:23):
All right, man?

Speaker 4 (01:34:24):
Let's keep it going on the news at noon. Unfortunately,
the news coming down yesterday. The legendary Bob Uker has passed.

Speaker 1 (01:34:33):
Bon a juvenile delinquent in the off season and is
major League debut fun into the wind up. In his
first offering, Josh the bit Outside, he tried the corner
and missed.

Speaker 8 (01:34:46):
All four all eight.

Speaker 2 (01:34:50):
Loen On has walked the bases loaded on twelve straight pitches.

Speaker 1 (01:34:56):
One anecdote about Bob Buker and the movie Major League
never saw it.

Speaker 3 (01:35:01):
He never watched it.

Speaker 1 (01:35:02):
Nope, huh. He ad libbed most of his lines and
then never watched it.

Speaker 3 (01:35:07):
Do I believe him?

Speaker 1 (01:35:07):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (01:35:09):
I don't believe him.

Speaker 1 (01:35:11):
You know, I would think he'd have to see I mean,
he was a television actor. He was on Mister Belvidere.
Do you ever watch that show?

Speaker 5 (01:35:16):
No?

Speaker 1 (01:35:18):
What bad?

Speaker 3 (01:35:19):
I'm sure it was great.

Speaker 1 (01:35:20):
I read it now.

Speaker 4 (01:35:21):
I've been writing Bob Buker. Here's a little factoid that
I'm not gonna put in the movie. Sure, the director
David Ward didn't even know that he called games for
the Brewers. He just saw him in Mister Belvidere and
other stuff. And the miller like commercials.

Speaker 1 (01:35:36):
There's another little long fact. We have a young team
doctor with us to travel with us this year, and
he didn't know who Bob Bucher was, and that in
itself was a little bit of a surprise.

Speaker 3 (01:35:50):
But he had no idea who Ben Scully was. That's
a little different.

Speaker 1 (01:35:55):
Let's ask let's ask the resident youngen of the show,
Connor d McGovern, be one honest, did you know who
Bob Yucker was?

Speaker 15 (01:36:02):
And do you know who Vin Scully is? I knew
who Bob Yucker was. I don't know who Vin Scully is.

Speaker 3 (01:36:12):
I do not know who that is.

Speaker 1 (01:36:14):
Now this young doctor of ours is the nephew of
Dave Winfield.

Speaker 4 (01:36:18):
Really, yeah, it's got Dave Winfield was an athlete, man.
People forget he was a guy. He was drafted in
four leagues.

Speaker 1 (01:36:27):
Yeah, pretty good, Pretty pretty good? Yeah. Just does the
average thirty year old know who Bob Buker and Ben
Scully are.

Speaker 3 (01:36:38):
Or the average what thirty year old? Connor, you're how old?
Twenty four? Average?

Speaker 8 (01:36:49):
No?

Speaker 4 (01:36:50):
I say no, Yeah, I would say Uker to me.
Maybe I guess less known, but maybe it was the
other way.

Speaker 1 (01:36:58):
For years than was nationally known for mister Belvidere, which
was in the late eighties. He was known for Major
League which was in the late eighties. The last thirty
years of Bob Ucker's professional career was as a radio
announcer for the Milwaukee Brewers. But he was really frankly
more popular in the seventies and eighties when he was

(01:37:19):
doing He went on The Tonight Show like one hundred times,
so he just I mean, I mean it was nine
years old.

Speaker 3 (01:37:27):
When he passed.

Speaker 1 (01:37:27):
I mean, it wasn't like he was, you know, some
spring chicken. So yeah, I'm not gonna begrudge the Yucher
the Scully one to me. Now again, Skull I didn't
do national stuff the last thirty years or his career either,
so maybe maybe I don't know. I'll give you one.
You know this guy that was a producer of the
Twin Peaks movie, he died yesterday.

Speaker 3 (01:37:46):
I guess, yeah, well the show, Yeah, David Lynch. I
didn't know who that was. Oh my, that doesn't surprise me.

Speaker 1 (01:37:54):
What was I mean, I didn't watch Twin Peaks, so
how would I know who he was of I didn't
watch a.

Speaker 3 (01:37:57):
Show twin Peaks.

Speaker 4 (01:37:59):
Mahole in dry I'm making a loss, guy way the
Elephant Man movie back in the day, was he made
the first Dune movie, David Lynch.

Speaker 1 (01:38:07):
Did you, Connor, you knew who David Lynch was?

Speaker 5 (01:38:10):
No?

Speaker 1 (01:38:11):
I feel better not.

Speaker 3 (01:38:13):
I'm excusing Connor. Why because the movie he made movies
in the eighties and nineties.

Speaker 1 (01:38:19):
But if I didn't watch an those movies, how I
know he is Twin Peter.

Speaker 3 (01:38:22):
Oh that's fine.

Speaker 1 (01:38:24):
I mean I know about Twin Peaks, but that those.

Speaker 3 (01:38:26):
Oh my god, yeah, I know.

Speaker 4 (01:38:31):
You didn't want The Elephant Man movie was like a
huge pop culture thing, wasn't it.

Speaker 1 (01:38:35):
No, it might have been. But you know they call
me mister anti pop culture culpture.

Speaker 3 (01:38:40):
Oh yeah, they do, mister oblivious. That's what they call you.
I did not know the Dune movies that came out
the past five years were a remake. Well they're not.

Speaker 4 (01:38:49):
I mean, they're they're readaptations. So there's based on the books.
Of course, there's there's a series of books. And then
they made a Dune movie in the in the eighties
there was a huge flop that became a cult hit.

Speaker 3 (01:39:00):
David Lynch directed, and.

Speaker 1 (01:39:01):
Then you know, hey, Connor, do not do not worry
because when there's some some band member of a band
in the early nineties passes away and I don't know
who he instrument he plays or who he is. And
Ross get's mad at me. It's like, how do you
know this person? Yeah, because I don't I know the
lead singers.

Speaker 3 (01:39:16):
It's about it.

Speaker 4 (01:39:17):
I mean, I'm not surprised they're not on a mid
day soap opera or a seventies sitcom. Matt doesn't know
who they are.

Speaker 1 (01:39:28):
That show was thirty years ago. I didn't watch it.
I mean, that's you know, it's just what it was.
My cup of tea?

Speaker 3 (01:39:33):
Bow Wait, could you send me some hot.

Speaker 1 (01:39:34):
Tea in my room?

Speaker 5 (01:39:35):
No?

Speaker 1 (01:39:36):
All right, anything else, We're late.

Speaker 3 (01:39:38):
That's it, Jesus. The lead story on the Regina sports
page is yeah is curling?

Speaker 1 (01:39:45):
M Did you're seriously? You got it? Ross? And I
know We're like, you have to do some recon No,
I'm not trolling them. No, just find out what they're
talking about on their show today.

Speaker 3 (01:39:55):
I'm good.

Speaker 1 (01:39:58):
Because we have Look, we have porch teams in our town.
We've never gone to a weird part of the world
and asked about their games.

Speaker 3 (01:40:05):
And we don't have a team involved.

Speaker 1 (01:40:07):
It'd be like us calling a station in Winnipeg and
getting their thoughts on the Jets versus the Maple Leafs
playoff series. We wouldn't need to do that because Connoredy
is our official expert of all things hockey, So we
need a hockey taking care of.

Speaker 3 (01:40:22):
Anything Canada related.

Speaker 1 (01:40:25):
And poon Tem.

Speaker 3 (01:40:32):
It's not It's not Boon Dean.

Speaker 1 (01:40:40):
I didn't mean to say it that way, but that
was pretty funny.

Speaker 3 (01:40:46):
What are wrong with you?

Speaker 1 (01:40:49):
I'm just sleep deprived. I had four hours of sleep.

Speaker 3 (01:40:51):
Got me some slack. You want some poon Tem? I
want some hot team, some poonding a break. Twelve eighteen.
That's Sports Talk seven Natty.

Speaker 2 (01:41:04):
Back to Matt Thomas and Ross via real Fine Fine
Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (01:41:15):
None lays stories are coming up in just over an
hour from now, hell Y are not all things about
Bob Bucker? At one fifty Today, twelve twenty two, Sports
Talk seven Outy is the Matt Thomas Show.

Speaker 3 (01:41:27):
Pull question is up.

Speaker 1 (01:41:28):
If you want to give us your thoughts Texans versus Chiefs,
call your shot, ROSSI sixty three percent of my audiences
Texans are winning over the Chiefs tomorrow. Confidence is growing.

Speaker 3 (01:41:40):
Let's call the Texans.

Speaker 1 (01:41:43):
It was fifty one forty nine in favor of the
Texans on Monday when I first put this out. But
that's what we do. We we we spend all week
trying to Hey, Kansas City's not the same Kansas City,
Pat Mahomes does this? Texans look great against the Chargers.

Speaker 3 (01:42:03):
The number one seed, back to back Super Bowl champions.
They suck. Let's go baby, Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:42:09):
Over rated Vegas is like Vegas. Vegas has all banded operating.
We're only gonna make them an eight point favorite.

Speaker 4 (01:42:18):
They they're getting a ton of money on the Lions
and they're holding the line just saying it's a little interesting.
Same Commies, Comedies plus nine and a half might.

Speaker 1 (01:42:29):
Be the play.

Speaker 3 (01:42:32):
We have a mad me.

Speaker 1 (01:42:33):
We'll save it for the top of the hour.

Speaker 3 (01:42:34):
Okay, all right, we'll do this time. I said I
was going to and I got distracted last week. I
think the only game, seriously, I'm not the Texans game.
There's no ye it is no, it's not no no error.

Speaker 1 (01:42:45):
Is it possible?

Speaker 3 (01:42:46):
Way for sure? The only game you missed was the
when you should have got right why you're on in Houston.
You should got the inside.

Speaker 1 (01:42:53):
Information so you're saying that I got to pick Houston
in every single say that.

Speaker 3 (01:42:58):
I didn't say that, but you're always underestimated, a Matt.

Speaker 1 (01:43:02):
You know what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna got one
of these travels I'm going to I'm gonna go to
Kansas I'm gonna forget this text and this Rocky game
I'm supposed to call.

Speaker 3 (01:43:09):
Him on, and I'm going to Kansas City. Support my brethren.
Kansas City here we come.

Speaker 1 (01:43:14):
Underrated city, too, great place to go. It's fine, good food,
nice people, casino.

Speaker 4 (01:43:20):
I'm not buying all these underrated cities you're talking about
Sacramento in Kansas City.

Speaker 1 (01:43:25):
Well, I mean, if you notice I like everything, probably
what west of the Mississippi East misisis.

Speaker 4 (01:43:30):
You did call Nashville underrated for years and then it
blew up, So I'll give you that.

Speaker 1 (01:43:34):
Yeah, but I haven't gone to Nashville that many times.
By the way, that have you seen the video? The
new Nissan Stadium that where they're gonna be the times
are gonna play. Supposed to be quite a little palace there.

Speaker 3 (01:43:42):
They got a whole new stadium. They're getting a brand
new one.

Speaker 4 (01:43:45):
You know, Oh wow, is it gonna have Oiler's fixtures
all over it. There's gonna be a statue of Earl
Campbell in the front of it.

Speaker 1 (01:43:51):
Don't get me started. I'm sure Warren Moon will be
there for the very first game. But you don't want
shame on the older people too.

Speaker 3 (01:43:58):
It's not their fault they don't have a home.

Speaker 6 (01:44:01):
You know what.

Speaker 1 (01:44:02):
I don't know because if you go ask ex Oilers
when when Amy Crunk's drunk sends that you know, flies
him up there like once every couple of years, like, well,
nobody loves us in Houston, nobody cared about Yeah, we do.
We care a lot about you. We watched you, We
watched the Staggerly play. We were we were there when

(01:44:23):
you lost to Buffalo. We were there when you lost
a can.

Speaker 3 (01:44:25):
You lost and lost and lost and lost and lost
and lost.

Speaker 1 (01:44:28):
We were there with mom and when you.

Speaker 3 (01:44:29):
I mean we were there.

Speaker 1 (01:44:31):
You tell me about we weren't there just because we
don't have a place for you doesn't mean we didn't.
But we didn't believe in you. I mean, I don't
know where you'd put it. I mean, who's gonna run
the Oiler Hall of Fame in Houston. We're in Texas Country.
Now in Texas's not the Texas responsibility. It's probably. I mean,
I don't know, if you die, I mean maybe John
mcclan is he retired yet or is he still working?

(01:44:53):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (01:44:53):
I think he's working. Okay, well maybe John? Can you

Speaker 3 (01:45:42):
Is he gonna pair up with Jerry Jones? That's not
your worst effort, thank you, but I no means your best?
But how do you not get prime in there?

Speaker 1 (01:45:58):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (01:45:59):
It was improp Matt.

Speaker 1 (01:46:01):
That's true. I used to freestyle occasional in the morning show.

Speaker 3 (01:46:04):
Yes, you did the freestyle king. I'm gonna bring those
days back. No, no, no, why it was crazy freestyle
five years ago?

Speaker 1 (01:46:13):
Could say a few things.

Speaker 3 (01:46:14):
Oh that's true.

Speaker 1 (01:46:18):

You can clip whatever you want. I don't care.

Speaker 3 (01:46:47):
In case, Yeah, just in case. What'd you say? Just
in case?

Speaker 8 (01:46:52):
No?

Speaker 3 (01:46:52):
Before that, you can clip this after that? Forgot bab
way Joel Narnie not giving us respect? He still has
this is a three seed.

Speaker 1 (01:47:05):
Hmmm.

Speaker 3 (01:47:06):

(01:47:30):
a little bit about that.

Speaker 3 (01:47:31):
And Jeff Passing.

Speaker 1 (01:47:33):
Yeah, you know your voice is like you when you
do the Irish accent. It's okay, the Jeff Passon. I
think Adam Wexler has a better pass than you do.

Speaker 3 (01:47:43):
Well, then why don't you get him on the show? Jerk?
What don't you You could have like a passing v
passing thing, wouldn't Why did you stf You want to

played all right, twelve twenty nine Sports Talk seven on It.
You know, sometimes unexpected things happen in life, and when
they do, you are going to need some legal representation.
And a man that I got to know a little
bit who is board certified and personal injury trial law
is Scott Callahan and Associates. In fact, he is board
certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, with less

(01:48:26):
than ten percent of Texas lawyers board certified. So this
is a group of people that you absolutely trust that
can get you back on your feet. You can call
them at seven one three eight eight eight nine thousand.
That's seven one three eight eight eight nine thousand. They'll
handle work injuries, construction, oil field accidents, wrongful death accidents.

Speaker 3 (01:49:14):

Speaker 1 (01:49:15):
You don't need it today, that's great, But if you

Speaker 2 (01:49:36):
Lunchtimers, Lunch Timers, It's a Matt Thomas show with Ross
on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (01:49:47):
The ladies on what Buster only thinks about Alex Brayman
coming up in just a couple of minutes real quick.
The folks that a betting service have the halftime prop
bets out for Keemrick la first song the greatest performer
and lyricist maybe ever in American music history. N. Ninety five,

(01:50:10):
Not like Us Humble United in Grief, Money Trees, Grief.

Speaker 3 (01:50:15):
He's not gonna start with that. Go ahead, and Euphouri.

Speaker 1 (01:50:17):
Are the six songs on the potential list of first
song odds Now. It's it's interesting because Drake has now
filed a lawsuit against UMG, the record company, rather than
Kindrick himself saying that UMG was pumping up Here we
Go gets the people going, was pumping up the numbers

(01:50:40):
of all these Dish tracks.

Speaker 3 (01:50:41):
So I'm wondering if there he's trying.

Speaker 4 (01:50:43):
To work out a way to get a stop to
where the famous Dish track, the biggest one was not
like Us? And I wonder if Drake is trying to
get those not played during the super Bowl with filing
this lawsuit. He's the first person in history of f
a lawsuit from.

Speaker 3 (01:51:00):
A rat beef.

Speaker 1 (01:51:01):
By the way, I can't wait.

Speaker 4 (01:51:07):
I think he might start with tv off. What do
you think, Connor? Tv off is going to be played
on the board?

Speaker 1 (01:51:13):
Not on the board?

Speaker 3 (01:51:14):
Really? Can is that there's there a field?

Speaker 1 (01:51:16):
Bet?

Speaker 8 (01:51:18):
No?

Speaker 3 (01:51:18):
The first six are crack this up. How do you
like this?

Speaker 1 (01:51:22):
Man?

Speaker 8 (01:51:22):
Huh?

Speaker 3 (01:51:24):
Enough? But not enough?

Speaker 1 (01:51:27):
Yeah? Oh my god, listen, I mean these lyrics, it's
just people going to the music.

Speaker 3 (01:51:36):
People are love this at halftime? Oh man, do you
know what people can't get enough of this. Absolutely one
of the greatest of all time.

Speaker 1 (01:51:46):
Yeah, I mean Ray Charles Aretha.

Speaker 4 (01:51:50):
Yes, Paul McCartney, Well, he's better writing than Paul McCartney,
certainly better than Ringo Octopus's Golden.

Speaker 3 (01:52:00):
That's I'm floating in an Ultupus's Goden. Hey, we all
live in a yellow submarine. This is genius.

Speaker 1 (01:52:10):
The United Nations, What is going on with you today?
I'm the one that sleep deprived. Not you rest last night,
I actually did.

Speaker 3 (01:52:19):
I'm feeling pretty good. I'm gonna go with Humble at
plus three hundred, man, is all right on there, man,
there's no field bed, I'm gonna take the field.

Speaker 1 (01:52:36):
I'm gonna ask you give me a number of minutes.
You think I'm gonna watch the halftime show, I don't care,
you know what. I'm gonna watch the whole thing, and
then I'm gonna be purely objective with this thing.

Speaker 3 (01:52:49):
Now you're gonna crush and that's fine.

Speaker 1 (01:52:50):
I don't care tell you how much I enjoyed or
didn't enjoy it.

Speaker 3 (01:52:53):
Your your music opinions are so bad it doesn't matter.

Speaker 1 (01:52:56):
All right, let's get the.

Speaker 3 (01:52:57):
Audience in fall. What song should Kendrick Lamar open with
Right now, I'm gonna go with DNA. Actually the DNA
on the list, No, let me tell you what they
are again, this is Listen, not Houston. Let's get in
right now.

Speaker 1 (01:53:08):
Look at these lines lit up at seven one three two,
one two five seven. Which song should Kendrick Lamar open
his halftime show with?

Speaker 3 (01:53:16):
We have ninety five? I no, not like us, No humble?
Maybe United in Chief Grief? Excuse me, I'm gonna start
with United and Grief. That's terrible to put on that list.
Money Trees four yea, So we'll get the line.

Speaker 4 (01:53:34):
I don't think he's gonna play Uphoria either. It's a
six minute disc track. Who made this list a betting service?

Speaker 1 (01:53:41):
And I'm not mentioning.

Speaker 3 (01:53:44):
Pulitz Are Prize winning Kendrick.

Speaker 1 (01:53:46):
Lamar seven one three two one two five seven. Which
song would you like Kendrick Lamar to open with with
the halftime show? We'll get you, We'll get your thoughts
all now?

Speaker 4 (01:53:56):
What if he comes out with the heat of TV Off?
What I mean TV off? In There are lyrics in
that song, turn his TV off, Turn his TV off.
I believe my theory is he wrote that song specifically
to play at the Super Bowl, directed at Drake.

Speaker 1 (01:54:11):
So basically, Kendrick is going to argue about how much
he thinks Drake sucks for ten minutes at halftime. Noo
for what an ego boost for Drake on that?

Speaker 3 (01:54:20):
No, Drake is very hurt. He's filing lawsuits. Drake is
in shambles.

Speaker 1 (01:54:25):
Too bad for him. All right, let's get to Buster Only.
Well we get wait for the phones to comme in
with people on the Kendrick Lamar song conversation.

Speaker 3 (01:54:34):
Well, maybe we should we should put the number out
on the beat. That might be a little bit better.

Speaker 1 (01:54:38):
That's maybe it's true. All right, all right, so you
uh were you taking a gasp by the Buster Only
comments yesterday?

Speaker 3 (01:54:48):
I wasn't a gasted. No a gasp e A g
a spa is a gasp a word? I made it one?

Speaker 1 (01:54:55):
A gape?

Speaker 3 (01:54:57):
What a gast?

Speaker 1 (01:55:00):
Go ahead, go ahead? We used to prob about this.
Let's go about nice, something simple. Are you surprised by
what he says? That's a lot easier for us.

Speaker 5 (01:55:09):
No.

Speaker 1 (01:55:09):
Here it is.

Speaker 4 (01:55:10):
The perscription from some teams involved is that Scott Boris,
who represents Bregman, might simply be waiting for someone to
get closer to the financial terms they wanted at a
time when execs think Bregman's market has been largely defined,
astros have moved on from them from Bregman. He's talking
about Red Sox, Tigers, blue Jays all have varying degrees

(01:55:31):
of interest. One of the execs speculates that in the end,
the Jays are in position to offer the most money
given their level of desperation.

Speaker 3 (01:55:38):
Now Bregman has choices to make you.

Speaker 1 (01:55:41):
Know who's at the market. Matt Chapman's at the market, Ross, Yes,
and that was set two months ago. Yes, the stock
has held from where it is. You want to buy
a piece of the of the Alex Bregman stock package,
that's what it's going to cost you about comparable to
what Matt Chapman got, which is what the astros offered. Frankly,

(01:56:02):
what five more million dollars total in the package? Then
what Chapman got for to stay with the Giants.

Speaker 3 (01:56:08):
I'm sorry say that again?

Speaker 1 (01:56:10):
Did is? It wasn't the six one fifty six five
million dollars more than what Matt Chapman got for the Giant?

Speaker 3 (01:56:15):
Right?

Speaker 4 (01:56:16):
The market says it is six fifty one, six years,
one fifty one was the Matt Chapman deal, yep, and
the Astros offered five million dollars, And there had been
a report that Bragman scoffed at that.

Speaker 3 (01:56:30):
Well, I don't know if he's scoffing anymore.

Speaker 1 (01:56:33):
Yeah, but isn't that weird that everybody was waiting for
the fall down of the Soto deal to start sending
the money going elsewhere? Going Hey, great plan, b it's
Bregman will sign him at a better dollar amount and
not feel like we're start going to get a.

Speaker 3 (01:56:49):
Major star, but not breaking the bank.

Speaker 1 (01:56:51):
The market was set when the Giants made Matt Chapman
a six one fifty one deal.

Speaker 3 (01:56:57):
And I don't know.

Speaker 4 (01:56:59):
Apparently he on seven years, Apparently he wants a certain
amount of money, and well, nobody's bitten.

Speaker 1 (01:57:06):
You know, you and I have argued about this, actually
quite a bit about the super Mega deals.

Speaker 3 (01:57:09):
Do you want?

Speaker 1 (01:57:10):
I wonder if Kyle Tucker is thinking about how this
is going with Bragmant. Now, of course younger, yes, uh, better,
more valuable, more valuable, five tool offensive threat. But three
months of missing the season last year probably doesn't help

(01:57:30):
the resume, not a spectacular postseason the last two or
three year.

Speaker 3 (01:57:34):
Although you could put that with a bunch of different guys.
I mean that he would not be by himself in
that if he has a wonderful year. Have we ever
have we put down a sort of sort of a
bet on the Kyle Tucker future?

Speaker 9 (01:57:45):
Yes?

Speaker 3 (01:57:45):
Seven and a half.

Speaker 1 (01:57:48):
Is our line. You have the under, I am the under.
Why am I always taking the under on these things?

Speaker 3 (01:57:53):
I don't know you're underestimating, Matt. I don't know if
I feel pretty good right now?

Speaker 1 (01:57:57):
Okay, because you know what it is today's job world.
Unless you're Jan Soda, we're underpaying and this isn't everything.

Speaker 3 (01:58:07):
I couldn't agree more, Matt.

Speaker 1 (01:58:08):
You're thinking in honesty, and now I'm talking about right
I'm talking about this in general. You think you're going
to the office and you're saying, hey, I our profits
are up fifteen percent from last year.

Speaker 3 (01:58:19):
I should deserve a fifteen percent raise, or I deserve
some sort of race.

Speaker 1 (01:58:23):
You wind up getting about half of what you think
you're gonna get, and you either take it or you
get a new job, and people don't want to move jobs.
Maybe that, maybe that's part of our of our DNA
is that we always and that's not a bad thing
to be about. But maybe that's what we do in
our life is we think we're more valuable than our
bosses do. Maybe that's the reason why the bosses remain
rich and we're you know a lot of people are

(01:58:45):
still you know, putting the lunch paale nine to five
workday in that companies have to be more conservative with
their spending. Again, unless you're one Soda and then you
can if you're the Mets, you completely break the bank.

Speaker 4 (01:58:58):
I have baseball kin tracks continue to go up. Well,
the Dodgers stuff is crazy with all the deferrals.

Speaker 1 (01:59:06):
And there's got to be some part of us, though,
ROSSI that thinks that they're gonna wind up regretting those deals.
You just I mean, you're it's it's like a constant
Layoway package. You got to eventually pay the deals off here.

Speaker 3 (01:59:21):
I don't think the Dodgers a regred at all.

Speaker 1 (01:59:25):
Then why are they why? Then why are they deferring
so much? Then what is in their best interest to
push these things back if they can pay for them right.

Speaker 4 (01:59:31):
Now, because then they stay out of the competitive balance
town or they're not as heavy into the competitive balance
tax because the money's not on the books. It's a
loophole that Franklin needs to be closed.

Speaker 1 (01:59:43):
All right, and that so if that is the case,
then to an argument to people that are general baseball fans,
they're saying, well, why doesn't every team do.

Speaker 8 (01:59:49):
It that way?

Speaker 3 (01:59:50):
Then you have to get the player to agree to it.

Speaker 4 (01:59:52):
Chhoe O'tani is one of the most marketable athletes on
the planet. So he's making a ton of money in
endorsements and he wants to win. You need an athlete
willing to want to win it all costs and willing
and having other sources of revenue or to where.

Speaker 3 (02:00:05):
They can put they can put off the money.

Speaker 9 (02:00:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:00:09):
So, I guess what I like to see in baseball.

Speaker 1 (02:00:11):
If we're gonna see the continued number of contracts being
pushed back, we have to see more athletes willing to
do it. But this way, Ross, if I offered you
twenty five percent more in your year to year salary,
but I asked you, but I asked you to push
it back maybe five or six.

Speaker 3 (02:00:26):
Years, you'd do it, Roy, didn't you. Yeah, it's called
the four oh one K.

Speaker 1 (02:00:31):
Yeah, hashtag retirement plan.

Speaker 6 (02:00:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:00:36):
Hashtag I'll be uber driving till them ninety Mmmm.

Speaker 1 (02:00:39):
Well you get that job on Regina locked up.

Speaker 3 (02:00:41):
That's true. It's almost like an what you got as
an on air audition today.

Speaker 1 (02:00:46):
Yeah, let's see how it goes there. And Matt, God,
I'm gonna try it. I hope they podcast your enemies,
not because I want to hear it.

Speaker 3 (02:00:53):
Oh No, that's fine. We're just gonna talk cheap.

Speaker 1 (02:00:55):
I don't.

Speaker 3 (02:00:56):
I think you're over selling this. It's gonna go on
there and talk some Texans chiefs and that's that.

Speaker 1 (02:01:00):
Why don't you put in a few players names that
aren't really on the team.

Speaker 3 (02:01:05):
No, I'm not going to do that. They would You
could sneak that in and Noah would know. I think
they would know.

Speaker 1 (02:01:11):
No, are you kidding me?

Speaker 8 (02:01:12):
You could?

Speaker 3 (02:01:12):
You could bring in a Byron Byron uh, Brian Joe Smith,
Brian Joe Smith, cornerback Miles Bryant.

Speaker 1 (02:01:21):
How about this one. I'm really hoping this wide receiver
Kayleon Miller gets five grabs for sixty four yards somewhere like, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:01:30):
Make one doing name stop. Yeah, I'm not going to
represent myself in the station in that way.

Speaker 1 (02:01:36):
Matt, You're not representing us. We don't really care what
you do after three or two o'clock ten to two.
You gotta be pristine, inaccurate, and I always on charge.
It took like do what you want to do, all right?
Twelve forty six. It is The Matt Thomas Show with

Speaker 3 (02:02:54):
Vince, good, afternoon, Thank you for holding Oh.

Speaker 8 (02:02:57):
No problem, sir, I got a couple of rockets. Questions
on tarry Eathan, Why are they being so vague on
his leg problem? Every time I hear a leg problem,
I'm not sure what that means. And it's you know,
kept him out most of the last season. It's obviously
an issue now and then once Smith is ready to
come back, do you think they're going to stick him

(02:03:18):
back to the starting lineup based on how well they've
been doing with a man in the starting lineup?

Speaker 1 (02:03:23):
Good questions, Vince, Thank you for the phone call. By
the way, if you didn't catch it. Tari played last
night and ross I was very happy with him. He
looked like he was sprying, ready to go to answer
the question. Though they're not really sure he you know,
he had some surgery in the leg and it's just
he was thriving and playing well and all of a sudden,

(02:03:45):
when you wake up or you go through a work guy.

Speaker 3 (02:03:47):
I mean, he didn't re injure it.

Speaker 1 (02:03:49):
It's just it's a it's an unknown and it has
baffled the Rockets. It has baffled their team doctors, they've
gone to specialist, they've done everything. But you know, I
think he missed what thirteen straight game or something like that,
but came back last night. I don't envision him playing
any back to backs, at least for the rest of
this season. I think he'll be on a minute's restriction
of between twenty and twenty five minutes per night, but

(02:04:09):
that's normally the case for most bench players. But I
thought he was fantastic in his return against the Kings.

Speaker 4 (02:04:15):
Yeah, I thought he played pretty well. And it'll be
interesting and it's just a weird thing that's been lingering
now for a couple of years.

Speaker 1 (02:04:23):
Yeah, I mean, this is a guy in his first
year in the NBA, his rookie season, played all eighty
two games, so there is it's not like a history
of a guy that's had this. But yeah, last year
he got derailed a lot and then all of a
sudden just got stopped in the middle of nowhere because
of this. So it's literally he wakes up in the morning,
how's he feel, he goes through a workout. How does
he feel he plays a game. It's there aren't lots

(02:04:46):
of sports medicine folks that travel with us, and it's
almost like they each individually take care of a couple
of guys. But Tari's in his own world just to
make sure that he can withstand the riggers of an
NBA season. So just to get it back out there
was great, and I was happy to see that. But man,
it has been a long time, and I think it's

(02:05:06):
frustrated the Rockets is and organizations, certainly as frustrated Tari
as a player, because you know, he thought he was
he'd overcome it when he started this season when he
missed all that time. As far as a Man Thompson,
I'll put my name on I don't think Amn Thompson
is ever leaving the starring lineup for the Rockets. I
think Jabari Smith, when he comes back from his hand fracture,
will come off the bench.

Speaker 3 (02:05:26):
I've not been giving that information directly.

Speaker 1 (02:05:29):
Just an educated guest based off of what I'm seeing
every night when I watch the Rockets playing. The fact
that men Thompson is one of the most dangerous players
right now on this Rocket team, and I don't. I
don't know if you saw this roster not. You know,
he's shooting at a very high clip this year. Now
he knows where he needs to shoot and knows the range,

(02:05:49):
but he's the he's that dunker spot.

Speaker 3 (02:05:52):
I say, he's dunking and laying up at a very
high rate that I want.

Speaker 1 (02:05:55):
To shoot high rate, but fifty somewhere in that range.

Speaker 3 (02:05:58):
He's at fifty on the season.

Speaker 9 (02:06:00):
Wow.

Speaker 4 (02:06:01):
Most of that's within the restricted area. But that's also
know your role. I mean that those are also the
hardest baskets to get. Now, people say, oh, well, he
shoots this, but they're all in the in the restrict area.
People talk about that Lebron like, oh, well, yeah, he's
getting all layups, like yeah, that's where teams try to
keep you away from the most. So if you're scoring
there a lot, that means you're doing something right.

Speaker 1 (02:06:20):
Yep. Yeah. And here's the hardest part is that you
know the dunker spot or that powerful position that guy
usually ross that are like six nine, six ten, two fifty. Yes,
a man six seven and two fifteen. He's having to
go against some heavyweights and the amount of rebounds he
gets for a guy of his size. He just has
and I and I don't mean to over use this phrase,
but he's got incredible basketball like Q.

Speaker 3 (02:06:42):
Yeah, high basketball like Q. Extremely athletic.

Speaker 4 (02:06:44):
Rockets did put Westbrook in the dunker spot back in
the day, uh, because he was in this similar philosophy.
Somebody that's not gonna shoot that is extremely not a
good shooter, but extremely athletic.

Speaker 3 (02:06:56):
Put him close to the basket makes a lot of sense.

Speaker 1 (02:06:59):
It was where seeing Russ in a Nugget uniform. He
still does a lot of Russ things. Good finisher, but
he could he'll jack up a three point or not.
Thing twice about it at that moment.

Speaker 3 (02:07:08):
Was pretty crazy or pretty funny.

Speaker 4 (02:07:10):
When he was talking to Jailing Jayalen Green was trying
to talk trash to him or something, and he's like, Hey,
you can't talk trash to me.

Speaker 3 (02:07:15):
You were on my AAU team.

Speaker 1 (02:07:17):
Yeah, I know you, I know you when you were
a kid.

Speaker 3 (02:07:19):
Get out of here.

Speaker 1 (02:07:20):
Well it's funny because we had a little stop at
you playing. I was watching the back and then go
back and forth. Yeah, and look, I havn't called every
Rockets game this year rustling. I know when somebody's gonna
fight and when they're not. I didn't sense any sort
of That was just two teams that have a lot
of s talkers on both sides, especially if you got
rust Park. I mean, he's gonna really get at you. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:07:39):
Apparently Russ was saying he used to play on my
AAU team, talking to me like I'm a little ass kid,
and then he was talking to the whole bench.

Speaker 3 (02:07:46):
It was funny.

Speaker 1 (02:07:47):
I knew when when he may smiled all was good,
he may puts his chest out a little bit and
starts getting grumpy. I know, Oh, here we go. I
do love this team where else I do because I'm
with him all the time.

Speaker 3 (02:07:59):
And it's just it's just so brash. It's just get
get out of my way.

Speaker 1 (02:08:05):
We're gonna play this way. We're gonna live and die
by this. We're gonna irritate you. We're going and it's
you know, it's.

Speaker 3 (02:08:10):
All almost like Patrick Beverley was skill. Does that make sense?

Speaker 1 (02:08:13):
WHOA not like that?

Speaker 8 (02:08:18):
No?

Speaker 3 (02:08:20):
I can't believe you. Did you boy like that? Well,
my boy he's he's constantly asking to have relationship with
my wife and my boy, and you know he's not.

Speaker 1 (02:08:28):
You don't think of the next time I see Pat Beverley,
He's not gonna asking about my wife.

Speaker 3 (02:08:31):
He just said, say hi to your wife for me.

Speaker 1 (02:08:33):
What's wrong with that? He's also changing his verbs up
on that too.

Speaker 3 (02:08:39):
He's just saying, send my regards to your wife. What's
wrong with that?

Speaker 1 (02:08:42):
Matt? I don't need an NBA players asking about my
high wife, how my wife's doing.

Speaker 3 (02:08:45):
He's sending his best.

Speaker 1 (02:08:46):
What if I asked Hi about how is girls doing?

Speaker 11 (02:08:48):
So?

Speaker 1 (02:08:48):
What's that I'm gonna do? You know I'm gonna do
the next time I see.

Speaker 3 (02:08:51):
Him, Hey, Matt, send your wife my best you personally,
it's fine you annoy her, So that's fine. Showed the list.

Speaker 1 (02:09:04):
What did you?

Speaker 5 (02:09:05):
Uh?

Speaker 11 (02:09:05):
You?

Speaker 1 (02:09:05):
First of all, you got bad with her when you
meant when you crapped out.

Speaker 3 (02:09:08):
Oh well, let me go. Look, she was cursing at
me the last time you structed her to text me.
I'll go find it.

Speaker 1 (02:09:13):
Oh it was about the McRib, I think.

Speaker 3 (02:09:15):
Oh, she likes the McRib two loves the mc She
can shut her bump ass up. The mcgrib is terrible.

Speaker 1 (02:09:20):
What you just talking about? What to shut up in
a major market radio show? Save up for one's interest.

Speaker 3 (02:09:25):
You This is what I said to her in all
caps usual, the McRib sucks and you should be embarrassed.
Then she sent me a She sent me an emoji
with one finger up.

Speaker 1 (02:09:33):
And believe it.

Speaker 3 (02:09:34):
At that, Missus Thomas being rude to you, I'm all
for it.

Speaker 1 (02:09:38):
James on seven OATI, good afternoon.

Speaker 7 (02:09:41):
Dame fellas. Appreciate y'all except for McCall hafter New Year,
I hadn't been able to get into you guys. Good
hear you guys going strong? Uh calling in because y'all
making a bad comparison to mac Chapman up against Alex
Brickman and what Mac Chapman has done in his career.

Speaker 6 (02:09:58):
What is his resume?

Speaker 7 (02:10:00):
Alex Brickman got four pennants, four World.

Speaker 6 (02:10:03):
Series, two World Series wins, He's.

Speaker 7 (02:10:06):
Been in the All Star He's he's he's a gold
Glover and at once two years ago he was the
number one third baseman in the league. Now the Shreder
m al B. According to m l B, they got
Brickman at fourth and the three players above. Brickman has

(02:10:27):
never ever played in the World Series.

Speaker 4 (02:10:30):
That's a team accomplishman, James, James, those are well. He
played on the as his career, they didn't make the
World Series.

Speaker 1 (02:10:37):
Yeah, I mean it's not. It's not for five years.

Speaker 3 (02:10:42):
I mean, come on, help the help the guy out
a little bit here.

Speaker 7 (02:10:45):
He's not an opening He's not an opening age now,
So what difference does it make if you're gonna pay
that kind of money, shouldn't you get the immediate results?
And that's the same thing that we are judging Brickman on.
Uh immediate results uh out against past past accomplishments and
how you how how do you measure one's performance up

(02:11:09):
against past accomplishments, past performance, what his resumes look like?

Speaker 4 (02:11:15):
And Matt Chapman is a two time Platinum Glover, which
means best regardless of You win a Gold Glove for
best at your position, you win a Platinum Glove for
best regardless of position.

Speaker 1 (02:11:24):
He has an a carrerops of seven ninety. His ops
plus is at one eighteen. I mean, I'm not trying
to I'm not trying to compare because I do believe
Bregman's better than Chapman.

Speaker 3 (02:11:33):
Don't worry about that, James. But the comp is there,
and you have.

Speaker 1 (02:11:37):
To go against the comp when it comes to individual
numbers and contracts. Just because Chapman doesn't have the team
accomplishments that Bregman does, it doesn't necessarily mean that Chapman
should have been hurt by that, or for that matter
of Bregmant should get more money because of simply he
played on a better team.

Speaker 7 (02:11:54):
Okay, okay, okay, and all in all with regards to
uh being, in my opinion breaking as the best third
baseman in all of baseball professional baseball, so uh.

Speaker 3 (02:12:08):
I think he ought to get paid.

Speaker 9 (02:12:09):
I've never been a company man.

Speaker 7 (02:12:11):
And what that being said is this, I paid good
money to go pay to see the Astros play, and
the reason why I paid those expensive field box tickets
is to see the players like Alex Brickman Kyle Tucker. Now, my, my,
my purchasing of tickets now have just declined because we'll

(02:12:35):
be paying money to see triple A a triple A
player at third base in a triple A player in
right field. So is the price coming down on the tickets.

Speaker 1 (02:12:46):
Chas McCormack has been a major leaguer for quite some time.
And by the way, you're gonna love it, Christial Walker,
we gotta get to a break. James good conversation. You're
gonna love Christian Walker. Russiam calling a shot. Uh oh,
now put my name on it.

Speaker 3 (02:12:59):
Okayty bombs for Christian Walker next year, thirty bombs.

Speaker 1 (02:13:03):
I like this.

Speaker 3 (02:13:04):
This is actually surprising me.

Speaker 4 (02:13:05):
Matt.

Speaker 1 (02:13:06):
Uh, Matt Chapman, I know you love war. Matt Chapman
last four years has way higher war numbers than Alex pregnant.
Don't tell that to James. One o'clock on Sports Talk
seven NINETI we get to the final hour of the show,
non Florida stories, hell ya or not, and we'll make
our predictions with some fancy NFL music. Start the final

(02:13:28):
hour next.

Speaker 3 (02:13:31):
Lunchtimers.

Speaker 1 (02:13:33):
This is the Matt Thomas Show one oh six Sports
Talk seven NINETI we start this second. It's the fourth
and final hour of the program. Now Florida story is
coming up in twenty five minutes. Right now, it's time
for us to make the patented NFL predictions. And remember,
if you had gone with me last week, you would
have went five and one.

Speaker 3 (02:13:55):
I got a fact check this, there's no way that's accurate.
Guess what go do't scared?

Speaker 1 (02:14:00):
I really usually I'm Milla. Hasn't it with you? Go
doing it. Go check it five and one. Baby, let's
go on a recorded line. I have Connor giving us
some special NFL prediction music.

Speaker 3 (02:14:11):
Wonderful, come.

Speaker 7 (02:14:18):
Not bad.

Speaker 3 (02:14:19):
This is jan Or Jackson is Jackson's Jacksons.

Speaker 1 (02:14:26):
Goodbye. Four games prediction. We'll start with the evening game
on Saturday night, Washington at Detroit. Current line on ESPN
BET says Detroit minus nine and a half over.

Speaker 3 (02:14:50):
At the Commanders.

Speaker 1 (02:14:52):
You mentioned earlier in the show ROSSI that Vegas is
starting to get a lot of money in on the
Washington side. Where would Ross's money go U Detroit side
actually hugely in favor and the line doesn't move.

Speaker 3 (02:15:03):
That means Vegas likes their line. I'm going with the
Washington Commanders to cover the nine and a half.

Speaker 1 (02:15:13):
They're so fun to watch.

Speaker 3 (02:15:14):
I'm not a big fan of NFC East football generally speaking, but.

Speaker 1 (02:15:19):
My gosh, I mean, Daniels is so good. Twenty five touchdowns,
nine interceptions, twenty six hundred yards. He's got almost thousand
yards rushing this year. For that, I mean, he's I
hate to tell you this, and I mentioned this to
you earlier, like this season. Now I know I'm talking

(02:15:43):
a battle battle right here, Who are you more bullish
on for an NFL career? You want me to say it,
go ahead, Stroud or Daniels.

Speaker 4 (02:15:52):
Stroud, they're close, They're gonna be great. It's fine if
you say Daniels. I'm not gonna call you crazy. I
know you're Texans hater, Matt, So that's fine.

Speaker 1 (02:16:01):
Well, I remember telling you the only two quarterbacks I
liked were Williams and Daniels out of the strep. Now,
McCarthy is an incompleat because he never took a snap,
but and Levis the year before. You had to bring
that up.

Speaker 3 (02:16:15):
All right, I'm gonna take I'm gonna go against everybody else.
I'm gonna take the Lions giving the nine and a half.

Speaker 4 (02:16:23):
That's not going against everyone. No, I think all most
of the money is on apparently the Well.

Speaker 1 (02:16:29):
I'm going to get you that.

Speaker 3 (02:16:30):
That's fine.

Speaker 1 (02:16:31):
I'll take the Lions given up the nine and a half.
I think the Lions could win this one by twelve
or fourteen. Yeah, so I'll take the Lions given the nine.

Speaker 8 (02:16:40):
And a half.

Speaker 3 (02:16:40):
Okay, Contardy, I'm agree with you, Matt. Maybe the Lion's
give that nine and a half.

Speaker 1 (02:16:52):
By the way, if you want to pick Washington in
a money line, it's a plus four hundred, so one
hundred gets you five hundred bucks. I said, that's that's
ROSTI as you'd like to say. Sometimes that's good value.
That's the great value.

Speaker 3 (02:17:06):
If you think, well, only if they win Matt Olympic.

Speaker 1 (02:17:10):
All right, Sundays, Rams Eagles snow in Philadelphia. Rams play
indoors Philadelphia minus six and a half. I gotta be
honest with you. I was insanely impressed with how the
Rams beat up the Minnesota Vikings in Phoenix. It is

(02:17:31):
a shorter week for them. They do have to travel
across the country for an early Sunday game. Weather can't
be great. The Eagles look so sluggish against Philadelphia. This
would be largely for me. If I was betting this one,
it would be a stay away. But if I gotta

(02:17:51):
lean somewhere, I'm gonna lean Philadelphia. Giving up the six
and a half, I'll take the Eagles.

Speaker 4 (02:17:59):
I agree with you, I'm gonna stick with Philly. Yeah,
I just think they're the better team. It's a lot
of points, honestly, but I could see the Rams getting
shut down. I'm going with Philly as well. Okay, Connor,
I'll be the contra contrarian.

Speaker 3 (02:18:15):
I'll go with the Rams. That's not the craziest, bet
I think it's I think the book's got a good
line on this one.

Speaker 1 (02:18:20):
Matt. Yeah, but you what are your inside solciers have
to say?

Speaker 3 (02:18:23):
My inside information says, I got a lot of crazy
stuff going.

Speaker 1 (02:18:27):
On in Philly that two guys fighting over the same
girlfriend could be a factor in the Sunday's game. I
got so much insig information.

Speaker 3 (02:18:34):
That it's coming out of my ears. They don't even
know about the information that I have been. It's not
even the day information. That's how much information I have.

Speaker 1 (02:18:42):
Ross. You're going first the premiere matchup of the weekend,
Ravens at Bills. They're expecting a snowstorm in Buffalo to
zero surprise at five thirty. If I'll tell you what
these networks can just when there's bad weather, let's put
it on. Let's put on the evening time. Let's make
it this cold and miserable as possible.

Speaker 8 (02:19:02):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (02:19:03):
I have the Ravens one of the AFC, so I
have to go with Baltimore. I have to go with
the Ravens, giving up the point in a half you
said you were going to be first.

Speaker 3 (02:19:11):
Okay, go ahead for you already went.

Speaker 1 (02:19:14):
I'm with you.

Speaker 3 (02:19:15):
I think Baltimore. Keep it simple, Baltimore is a better team.
They are on the road.

Speaker 4 (02:19:19):
But Derrick Henry and Lamar Jackson greater than Josh Allen
and James Cook, who's really good.

Speaker 3 (02:19:26):
In having a good season.

Speaker 9 (02:19:28):
Week.

Speaker 4 (02:19:29):
Yeah, I mean this is gonna be this is gonna
be a great game, a cracker of a match, as
they say.

Speaker 3 (02:19:33):
But I'm going with Baltimore. I just think they're the better,
more complete team.

Speaker 1 (02:19:37):
Yeah, Ravens. Don't think the Ravens, all right, so get
two Ravens. Connor where you have, I'll go with the Bills.
You know, I'm not doing it for the sake to
be different. I Connor McGovern, this is guy escially at home.

Speaker 3 (02:19:50):
You're Conturon d McGovern, not to Connor d McGovern.

Speaker 4 (02:19:53):
All right, Connor McGovern's on the Bills. He can't go
against his guys. I have a Bill's jersey with my
name on it.

Speaker 1 (02:19:59):
Do you wearing people? Good future for him?

Speaker 6 (02:20:01):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (02:20:01):
Yeah all the time.

Speaker 1 (02:20:02):
I don't believe.

Speaker 3 (02:20:03):
At first, they're like, aren't you the Uh you look
like an NFL guard.

Speaker 1 (02:20:07):
Not built like an NFL lineman.

Speaker 3 (02:20:09):
You know, I'm gonna say that as a complement. Actually,
thank you, You're welcome.

Speaker 1 (02:20:12):
I'm gonna let you go first too. In this last one,
Texans Chiefs. Right now, we're gonna put it at Kansas
City on the line minus.

Speaker 3 (02:20:18):
Eight, I'll say that the Chiefs give the eight. I
don't want to, man, Yeah, I mean I picked, I picked?

Speaker 1 (02:20:27):
Did I pick?

Speaker 3 (02:20:28):
The Rams last week? Are not the rest Chargers?

Speaker 4 (02:20:31):
Chargers you did, both of you did, Okay, so you know, haters,
I'm outers want them to put me wrong.

Speaker 3 (02:20:38):
They're gonna do it again.

Speaker 1 (02:20:40):
ROSSI.

Speaker 4 (02:20:41):
I'm taking the Houston Texans plus the eight. I think
it'll be a close game. I don't think there'll be
a Russ factor or anything like that. But defense, especially
if he's Al, is gonna be able to play. It's
such a good defense. They'll be able to limit the
efficacy of one Pat Mahomes and it'll be a close,

(02:21:02):
low scoring game.

Speaker 1 (02:21:03):
There is not another radio show in the marketplace that
gives you the word effectusus.

Speaker 3 (02:21:09):
That's not a big but that's an eighth grade word.
Let's move on.

Speaker 1 (02:21:11):
What's last time you said it?

Speaker 3 (02:21:13):
Well, all the time you see efficacy, when's the last
time you heard him say that on the show?

Speaker 1 (02:21:18):
That word on this show? Ever? Zero connor? Would you?

Speaker 4 (02:21:22):
Would you say that's a ninth grade word or maybe
a max tenth grade word? I could be a tenth
grade word, that wouldn't That might fool me on the
s A T say oh my lord, but you don't.

Speaker 3 (02:21:31):
Use it in normal, normal language. I don't trying to
go big words on it.

Speaker 1 (02:21:37):
Can we move on?

Speaker 3 (02:21:38):
No, it's not that big of a word.

Speaker 1 (02:21:40):
But you know what it means, right, I absolutely knew exactly.

Speaker 3 (02:21:43):
Okay, then why are you talking about it?

Speaker 1 (02:21:45):
Because you.

Speaker 3 (02:21:47):
Remind me of I'm gonna say you remind me of
Go ahead say it.

Speaker 4 (02:21:51):
No, I literally try to think of dumber words to
say when I talk. So you don't like stop the
halt the middle of a segment, but I couldn't. I'm sorry.
It's not a big word.

Speaker 3 (02:22:02):
It's gotta be like tenth grade here, seventh eighth grade level.

Speaker 1 (02:22:07):
I'm listening to music behind it. It's a good jam.

Speaker 4 (02:22:09):
Hold on, I put an efficacy grade level. It says
eighth grade is an eighth grade word.

Speaker 1 (02:22:15):
I'm sorry.

Speaker 3 (02:22:16):
If this is like offending you in some way.

Speaker 1 (02:22:18):
I am I offended. This is the commodore. So I'm
Sports Talk seven nine.

Speaker 3 (02:22:23):
I think this game stays close for three quarters of
the Chiefs pullway in the fourth and win by ten.

Speaker 1 (02:22:28):
So I will take the cheaps giving up the eights
and those.

Speaker 3 (02:22:36):
All right, it could happen. Yeah, all right, we got
an origin on Florida story from the outside. When is
this outside of Florida?

Speaker 1 (02:22:46):
Man, fifteen short minutes is from southern Japan.

Speaker 3 (02:22:50):
Ross Southern Japan. Okay, Southern Japan. That's where they really party. Yeah, yeah, hey,
no party like a out your Pan party because the
South Japan party don't stop.

Speaker 6 (02:23:02):
Matt.

Speaker 1 (02:23:03):
Have you ever been to southern Japan?

Speaker 3 (02:23:04):
No, I'd be in the southern You ever been to
the Southern Cross No, I've been to Southern Korea and
you enjoyed it down there. It was great. Maybe you
do a radio hit there.

Speaker 1 (02:23:17):
I might.

Speaker 4 (02:23:18):
There is a there is a Korean person whose go
goes to the Rockets games and and does reports after
the games.

Speaker 1 (02:23:25):
Well, you know ten Cent, which is a uh yes,

Moorey said, what he said, but that's not.

Speaker 1 (02:23:33):
Over there.

Speaker 3 (02:23:37):
All right?

Speaker 1 (02:23:37):
Oh there we go?

Speaker 3 (02:23:38):
Sure, yeah, sorry seven one.

Speaker 1 (02:23:41):
Three two one two five seven ninety seven three two
on two five seven.

Speaker 3 (02:23:47):
Wait, I just got followed by the guys in Saskatchewan.
I have to follow them back.

Speaker 1 (02:23:52):
Oh no, well you know what, following them and then
just unfollowing over the weekend. Have a website, right, Connor.
We gotta we gotta get audio of this interview, or
at least snippets of it.

Speaker 3 (02:24:04):
It's Jamie and Locker on the Green Zone. What time
are you going on?

Speaker 4 (02:24:09):
I have to like listen to it. You don't have
to listen to it. Don't worry about it. To send
me a copy three thirty six. Tell me using it
for a job?

Speaker 1 (02:24:17):
Res of me? You want to trying to build up
your brand. Tell them there's a job in ed they're
Tell them there's a job in Edmonton for the oilers
beat reporter for the station they're not.

Speaker 4 (02:24:27):
Why do you want me to lie and disrespect these people.
They're just as important as you are, Matt. They've got
thirty thousand followers.

Speaker 3 (02:24:33):
Oh geez, they're doing great as good as we are.

Speaker 1 (02:24:37):
Their station has thirty thousand followers. This show. Great.

Speaker 3 (02:24:41):
Oh damn, we don't have.

Speaker 1 (02:24:42):
Had that many.

Speaker 3 (02:24:44):
Yeah, Saskatchewan's number one sports show.

Speaker 1 (02:24:49):
Wow, Well, I wouldn't put I wouldn't send you to
the number four sports show.

Speaker 3 (02:24:52):
I appreciate that.

Speaker 1 (02:24:54):
Matt one seventeen on Sports Talk seven ninety seven one
three two one two five seven ninety seven one three
two one two five seven nine zero.

Speaker 4 (02:25:08):
All right, we just mentioned a lot of playoff action
this weekend. How do you make it a little sweeter,
have a little more fun. How about some draft kings
pick six giving you a shot to turn a little cash.

Speaker 3 (02:25:18):
Into a lot.

Speaker 4 (02:25:19):
We've been spotlighting some players gonna do it again this week,
just saying went two to oh last week, Let's see we.

Speaker 3 (02:25:24):
Can do it this week.

Speaker 4 (02:25:26):
I'm gonna go with Jared Goff less than two hundred
and seventy two and a half yards passing versus the Commanders,
Jamiir Gibbs, David Montgomery, Washington twenty sixth in rushing DVAA
Lions are gonna be establishing the run. Last week against
the Commanders, Baker Mayfield went more than sixty yards less
than his total because the Bucks were gashing the Commanders

(02:25:46):
on the run. I think the Lions are gonna do
the same. Commanders allowing an average of one point nine
yards before contact. That's a runway for Gibbs and Montgomery
to run free. That's twenty eighth in the NFL. So
highlight Gary Goff less than two hundred and seventy two
and a half passing yards. I also like Kareem Hunt
less than thirty two and a half rushing yards. Going

(02:26:09):
to that Texans well again worked last week with JK.

Speaker 3 (02:26:11):
Dobbins.

Speaker 4 (02:26:12):
Last year in the playoffs, Andy Reid leaning heavily on
Isaiah Pacheco. He's gonna have a more more healthy workload.
Kareem Hunt fiftieth out of fifty six in qualifying running
backs in yards after contact. That means there's a very
low chance of an explosive run from Hunt. Andy Reid
knows that Texans strength is stopping the run, so he's
also going to have a lot of screens, short passing game.

(02:26:34):
Kareem Hunt. I like less than thirty two and a
half rushing yards. If you haven't checked out the DraftKings
pick six app now is the perfect time to do it.

Speaker 3 (02:26:42):

Speaker 2 (02:27:41):
It's a Matt Thomas show with Ross on Sports Talk
seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (02:27:50):
Non boy story. He's in a few minutes, Rossy, are
we using Are we watching Dion Sanders leverage the Cowboys to.

Speaker 3 (02:27:59):
Get more NIM money for Colorado? That feels like that's
a sticking point right now.

Speaker 4 (02:28:05):
I could see a leverage situation in play for a
contractor ANIL money. Absolutely, because it has been reported as
you mentioned that did Dion asked for more in ALE
money was rebuffed by I'm sorry, he was told no
by Colorado.

Speaker 3 (02:28:22):
Brass and might be a Cowboy coach.

Speaker 1 (02:28:26):
So here's the thing, And I know a lot of
college administrators ross on this CIIL and look, this is
a reality.

Speaker 3 (02:28:32):
We can't we can't hide this, we can't. It's I'm
going to go away. The chance of it being.

Speaker 1 (02:28:36):
Regulated are probably slimming none. You're what you're catching and
we've talked about this before, as you're catching fatigued by
these administrators that are trying to compensate these players legally
because the NCIBLA is telling them to do that and
lawsuits are Then you've got to worry about facilities. You
got to pay your coaches, you got to pay your
your non rev sports. And you're going to the same

(02:28:58):
alums over and over and over again, and they're running
into fatigue. And that's what it feels like to me
is going on in Colorado, not knowing all their intricacies
about it.

Speaker 3 (02:29:07):
But maybe the ads are just.

Speaker 1 (02:29:10):
Saying, hey, I can't keep going to the same five
mega mega donors and asking them to, you know, buy
out a contract or buy out or add a new
football facility or add a new wing to their athletic department.

Speaker 3 (02:29:26):
And that's what's happening. I think.

Speaker 1 (02:29:27):
I think the small adult donors are cool and everything
to make you feel good, but you have to have
the big money. And that's where the big money comes in.
You need a five million dollar cash infusion. For nil,
you're not going to like you of h is not
coming to me for five million. They're going to find
the big head honchos, the leaders of the corporate world
to go do this, and maybe Colorado that's what they're

(02:29:50):
running into, is that they've already gone to the big
guys to pay off Dion to build up the facilities
in Boulder. That if they keep going to them, eventually,
and they're going to, they're gonna get some nose and
then you're gonna create resentments between guys that have paid
you a lot in the past, and you're looking to
get more money for them down the road when you
need stuff for your own school and I just pay

(02:30:11):
these guys off.

Speaker 4 (02:30:13):
Yeah, donor fatigue, I think. I know we've been talking
about this since NIL has happened. I think it has
happened at some individual schools, and I think it will
kind of fluctuate from year to year. Donors are going
to be more excited to hand over more cash as
the team is getting is doing well, if they're closer
to championships, and then if they do spend a lot
of money and then it doesn't work out, they're gonna

(02:30:33):
feel burned.

Speaker 3 (02:30:33):
I think that's happened at Texas A and M.

Speaker 1 (02:30:35):
Yeah, because think about this. Let's say Ross you had
two million dollars you wanted to give to the University
of Texas. My guess is, if you have that kind
of money to give to eight to something like that,
and you see this all the time with medical facilities
and scholarships, you want something with your name attached to it.

(02:30:58):
That's just the ego in any right.

Speaker 3 (02:31:02):
If you write a check to two million dollars to
the collective of any institution, whether it be A and.

Speaker 1 (02:31:07):
M, Texas, Houston. You're not getting that kind of well,
we really appreciate you. You're not putting your name is
not put on that athlete that you're paying. Where if
you were to give two million dollars to the University
of Texas, you might have a swimming pool named after
you because you've helped build their aquatics program, or you
may have a basketball facility with part of the wing

(02:31:29):
named after you. You're getting a little bit of long
term Hey, this is kind of cool. I've been able
to endow as scholarship. I'm giving away a scholarship to
four or five Texas players and it's the Villa Reale
Scholarship Group. When you're cutting a check for two million
dollars to a collective, they're just saying, thank you very much.
Now we can pay these guys that probably either are

(02:31:50):
not going to stay for four years are going to
wind up going somewhere else to find more money in il.
That's the thing that NIL, I think has to say
you got to start getting some self satisfaction unless you
go to people that don't care about that. And I
think that's a very small group of people that say
here's my money, take it. I don't need the recognition.
The only person I can think of, frankly, that right

(02:32:11):
now can do this is Phil Knight. He's even basically
said it. I'm eighty six years old. I've never seen
Oregon win anything. I've already made all the money I can.
My shoe company is a worldwide leader. There's nothing no
more I can do. Just take my money, go get
me the best players. And I don't need any recognition
for it. That's an outlier.

Speaker 3 (02:32:36):
Yeah, and it hasn't worked.

Speaker 1 (02:32:38):
And it still hasn't worked. There's no guarantee of success.
Right But going back to Colorado, I my guess is
if Dion Ross goes to him and says, look, I
don't want to go to the Cowboys. I'm Colorado through
and through now, I think he's first boys lying through
his teeth. But if he's using it as leverage, all

(02:32:59):
Colorado eighties got to do is he's got to go
find three or four people that can give him some
more money, because that's what he wants. He wants a
treasure chest so he can say, well, Boulder is a
great institution. It's a beautiful part of the country, and
the people are nice, and you get a good education.
You know by the way that money I offered you
for one hundred and seventy five thousand dollars talking out
bump at the two in a quarter, come on over.

Speaker 3 (02:33:21):
I wonder how this is all going to play out.

Speaker 4 (02:33:23):
I'm kind of rooting now at this point for him
to become the Dallas Cowboys head coach.

Speaker 1 (02:33:27):
I know, and I wonder how much Shuldar Sanders has
to play with in this situation, because if you're the Cowboys,
you don't need a quarterback unless you are trying to
get rid of Dak Prescott or you think that he
is going to be injury prone for the rest of
his NFL career because you've already invested so much into him.

(02:33:52):
I don't know what what if releasing him, how much
of a burden that would be. But my guess is
when you sign these mega deals, we always see teams
that try to do that, they wind up going man,
there's a lot of dead money in that cap. And
how close are the Cowboys. Does a healthy Dak Prescott
next year get them to the playoffs?

Speaker 3 (02:34:09):
I would say yes.

Speaker 1 (02:34:10):
I mean, I think the answer that is absolutely yes.
It is, so you're gonna go with a rookie head
coach who brings his son in. It provided that the
Cowboys would say it's a package deal and you're gonna
put them with a bunch of other veteran guys to
say he's a difference maker. Again, that could happen. That's
all for a risky proposition to put put yourself in. Yeah,

(02:34:31):
that's gonna be tough. I mean, the division's tough now
with the Commanders and the Eagles. Luckily, the Giants are terrible.
Giants aren't gonna be anything relevant for a long period
of time.

Speaker 3 (02:34:41):
If they get the right quarterback. If cam wore who
do they have the number two pick, Tight's gonna take
cam Ward? Everybody thinks, m h Yeah, well obviously it's
not Daniel Jones. I still think Brian Dable is a
good coach. It's just with you because they didn't get
rid of him. Yeah, but then I mean.

Speaker 1 (02:35:01):
Still that the rest of the NFC to have Saquon
Barklay in your own division, though, I mean, how painful
is that? It's pretty funny, Yeah, but the rest of
the NFC, the Lions aren't going anywhere. No, the NFC
South teams don't scare any of you. The NFC North
could have three teams. I mean it could be irritating

(02:35:22):
you for the foreseeable future.

Speaker 3 (02:35:23):
Yeah, if Caleb Williams makes a lead next year, I
mean that the Bears could be good.

Speaker 1 (02:35:26):
Four teams.

Speaker 3 (02:35:27):
Yeah. Bryce Young is actually playing pretty well towards the
end of the season.

Speaker 1 (02:35:33):
But I feel like that could be a that Bryce
Young's in the next couple of years could help Carolina
maybe get the win that division. But that division hasn't
done much.

Speaker 4 (02:35:41):
Ram Seahawks, Cardinals, Niners. I mean, Niner's probably gonna bounce back.

Speaker 1 (02:35:44):
Especially when there's a lot of pressure down that they're
gonna put a lot of money in Brock Parties, Piggybank.

Speaker 3 (02:35:48):
Bottom line, it's hard to win in the NFL.

Speaker 1 (02:35:52):
Bottom line is you'll feel like your team's getting better
and so what five other teams think the exact same thing. Yeah,
but I think the Cowboys could sneak into a playoff team.

Speaker 3 (02:35:59):
For next year.

Speaker 1 (02:36:00):
I mean, yeah, if you were to go over the
most underperforming team of the last five or six years,
wouldn't the Cowboys be at near the very top of
that list?

Speaker 4 (02:36:09):
They would be up there. I mean, they won seven
games with Cooper Rush for a lot of the season.

Speaker 1 (02:36:15):
Yeah, that's right, all right. Non Florida Stories are coming

Speaker 1 (02:38:57):
One simple rule. You cannot mention anything in terms of
interesting stories about what's happening in our role today from
the state of Florida unless you're in the state of
Florida and I am on the opposite of the country
in Portland, Oregon.

Speaker 3 (02:39:10):
Ross and Connor. I'm going to go to uh Cargo Shima.

Speaker 1 (02:39:14):
It is a city in southern Japan, and those folks
in Kagoshima are purchasers, as.

Speaker 3 (02:39:22):
Are all of us at toilet paper right okay, So,
A network.

Speaker 1 (02:39:28):
Called the Good News Network reported on January the fourteenth
that you have a new option for those of you
that are looking to purchase toilet paper in Kagoshima, Southern Japan.
Roles are being produced right now, made of of used
diapers and other hygiene products. The cities of Shibushi and

(02:39:49):
Osaka work together to recycle disposable diapers starting this past April.
They used items are sanitized, bleached, and shredded into a
pulp to be mixed with recycled paper to the tune
of thirty thousand rolls in the first two months of production.
If you want a dozen rolls of this used diaper
and other hygiene product toilet paper. It'll cost you two

(02:40:10):
dollars a seventy cents. Spokesman for the Osaka Municipal government says, quote,
please support this eco friendly product which aims to promote
a sustainable society by we're using local resources as does
beg a question. Would either one of you used a
used diaper to help with your toilet paper needs?

Speaker 3 (02:40:33):
I mean, I imagine the product is clean.

Speaker 4 (02:40:39):
I'm gonna be honest, Matt, By the time we hit
the end of our lives, this kind of stuff is
gonna be We're gonna be doing a lot of reusable stuff.
Population keeps growing, use of consumer product keep going up.

Speaker 3 (02:40:51):
They're making lab grown meat.

Speaker 1 (02:40:53):
All right. So again you're talking about.

Speaker 3 (02:40:55):
Using steel soilet green. By the time when we're hitting
the deathbed, Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:40:59):
Use diapers and their hygiene products or sanitized, bleached and tridded. Okay.

Speaker 3 (02:41:03):
For your comfort, this should be good. How comfy are
there are they?

Speaker 1 (02:41:10):
Or you're not wearing it?

Speaker 9 (02:41:11):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (02:41:12):
But you want some comfort, I mean you want it
to be squeezedly soft, right, you don't you want to
be comfort to pull? Yeah, but you're not wearing the diaper.
You're just using the toilet paper to do you know,
do what you need to do? Two dollars and seventy cents.

Speaker 3 (02:41:26):
For a dozen rolls of this used diaper edition of
toilet paper? What does I don't even know what?

Speaker 1 (02:41:32):
What does the roll of toilet paper costs these dates
or like a six or twelve pack?

Speaker 3 (02:41:36):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (02:41:37):
I don't know. I just buy.

Speaker 4 (02:41:38):
I just buy whatever I see on the deal's page
and get it at Amazon.

Speaker 1 (02:41:42):
Yeah, like it was unnamed. Okay, I don't care if
it feels good or not. I have it's if it's
if it's uh basically uh not?

Speaker 3 (02:41:49):
What's that?

Speaker 1 (02:41:50):
What's the uh? What's the hard paper?

Speaker 3 (02:41:52):
They sandpaper?

Speaker 1 (02:41:53):
Sampoo?

Speaker 9 (02:41:55):
Yeah?

Speaker 15 (02:41:55):
Ross, you order your toilet paper on Amazon, So sometimes
that's why you don't.

Speaker 3 (02:42:01):
You don't go to the store and get it.

Speaker 1 (02:42:03):
No, we order it.

Speaker 3 (02:42:04):
If I find a deal and paper towels too interesting, Yeah,
I buy a Look this is what I do.

Speaker 1 (02:42:10):
I buy.

Speaker 4 (02:42:11):
There's usually okay, there's a website I go to that
I won't plug. I suppose they put deals up on
the website. When I see a deal, usually order in bulk.
Like a bunch of toilet paper shows up, and I'm good.

Speaker 3 (02:42:20):
For like at least a year A year's supply.

Speaker 1 (02:42:24):
Well yeah, man, well.

Speaker 3 (02:42:28):
Your supply to most of us is is like a
month of ross. What are you trying to say, Matt,
I got the ibs. I'm saying you're regular. I'm good.

Speaker 1 (02:42:40):
Regular, You're good.

Speaker 3 (02:42:41):
I just figured a lot of people they got in.
I'm not constantly diarrheal.

Speaker 1 (02:42:48):
May I quote you on that, yes, twelve pack or
toilet paper? I'm not going to say much it cost.
I don't even know what it.

Speaker 4 (02:42:56):
Stay away from Cottonell. By the way, last time I
got a deal that was that stuffs terrible falls apart
on you?

Speaker 1 (02:43:01):
Was it the double roll?

Speaker 3 (02:43:04):
I could have went with extra strong or extra soft?
And I was like, why can't I get both?

Speaker 1 (02:43:10):
Scott Comfort plus roll of toilet paper is six dollars
in Amazon.

Speaker 3 (02:43:15):
Scott's not bad. Guess the job done.

Speaker 1 (02:43:16):
Twelve double rolls. There you go.

Speaker 3 (02:43:19):
And when they say triple roll, I don't think it's
a triple roll. I don't know. She's by sheet comparison exactly.

Speaker 1 (02:43:25):
That's my not a floor story there. Thank you, Matt.

Speaker 4 (02:43:29):
Let me go so I can continue writing. Believe it
or not, I'm gonna take you to a where'd my
story go?

Speaker 3 (02:43:37):
Oh, here we are. I'm gonna protake you to place.

Speaker 1 (02:43:39):
Matt.

Speaker 4 (02:43:39):
This is you are America's travel horse, so you'll be
interested in this story.

Speaker 3 (02:43:43):
I'm a travel consumer and a horror horror.

Speaker 4 (02:43:45):
On Wednesday, there was a scheduled flight on Southwest Airlines
from Georgia to Chicago, flight thirty seven seventy two. Well,
apparently a Southwest Airline pilot had to be removed for
them from the cockpit before the flight, and then he

(02:44:06):
was subsequently booked on a charge of driving under the influence.
A source familiar with the incident told CBS News David
Paul Alsop allegedly smelled of alcohol showed other signs of
intoxication when airport police in Savannah removed him before the

(02:44:27):
flight was taking off to Chicago's Midway Airport.

Speaker 1 (02:44:31):
What flight number is that again?

Speaker 4 (02:44:32):
Thirty seven seventy two going in? That marked that one
off the list.

Speaker 1 (02:44:36):
I'm looking on the list, Yeah, go ahead.

Speaker 4 (02:44:37):
Southwest Airline spokeperson said the employee has been removed from duty.
Customers were accommodated on other flights, and we apologize for
this disruption of their travel plans. There's nothing more important
to Southwest than the safety of our employees and customers.
Bail was said at thirty five hundred dollars, according to
jail records, which also indicated he has been released on bond.

Speaker 3 (02:45:02):
I hate to tell you this ross that happened, that
happens more than you'd ever think it would be. Would
I remember when I was just turned twenty one, one
of my first three or four trips to Las Vegas,
I wound up going to a club.

Speaker 1 (02:45:13):

got a Flatterretta. And we were leaving at twelve forty
tonight and it was like eleven o'clock and he's still
at the he's still in this bar in Vegas, and
I'm like, you're gonna fly this, You're gonna fly a
plane because I haven't been drinking still though he could
have been lying to me. Those piles of crazy hours dude,

a fight was sentenced to ten months in jail by
a Scottish court.
