He's gonna gown fifty five touchdown, he said, partly sixthy yards.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
But his opening cook a quarterback raw. He's at the five.
He is and for the touchdown. Damn hurts. I guess
his legs all right. Jalen does a little text of.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
Move o'clock the flares fly skywork at the Eagles, not
just beat but Annioley the Washington Commanders fifty five to
twenty three, one a day one of what a crown.

Speaker 2 (01:01):

Even off left side, Kareom hunting to ten, angling of
the five headliens on the last.

Speaker 5 (01:09):
Side, touchdown Kansas City. It's a nine new yard drive
to start the AFC Championship games.

We'll playing. Mahomes keeps it on an RPO at the
fine gets a lead plaft.

Heike us into the hands on news side touchdown Kansas
City Patrick Mahomes a sixteen yard run, his second rushing

Speaker 2 (01:34):
Count she's gonna throw it. They saw on the left

samat JP run.

Speaker 5 (01:44):
I remember when Brett Beach told me they picked him up.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
It's a gate of eighteen yards. I poured water.

Speaker 5 (01:51):
On my head and the Kansas City Chiefs are gonna
pull this off.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
Great ship in the moll So I'll be sitting in
the team minus thirteen days till the Super Bowl. The
ship's then I watch. Should be fun. Good morning, Ross,
How the heck are you?

Speaker 6 (02:17):
I'm doing great, Matt? Why are you so down?

Speaker 2 (02:21):
Watch? Don't care? You don't care? No? Why not?

Speaker 6 (02:29):
I mean I'll watch. Yeah, you're gonna. First of all,
you're gonna watch.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
Of course, people saying they're not watching it, you.

Speaker 6 (02:35):
And all of America a bunch of frauds. No, not
like you're not gonna watch the game.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
I never said that. But I'll be damn if I'm
excited about it. It'll be nothing more than just a
football game on while I'm eating some Big City Wings
at my house after the game. I'm not even going
to a party. I told Adam Clinton not to have
a party any right, He's like, I'm not having a party.
Nobody wants a party on this one boring. First of all,
we don't want to have you. Okay.

Speaker 6 (03:00):
Hey, it's the the for the first time in NFL history,
a back to back Super Bowl winner is going for
a three peat.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
They're going up against the two seed Eagles. I just
don't get it on this order to do that. No, no, no,
we're not gonna do I get it to an extent
the way that everyone is so down, like this is
some dog matchup.

Speaker 6 (03:23):
Y'all are a bunch of whiners.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
Can we ask the audience. I'm sure the audience is
going to be on your side, and I'm okay with that.

Speaker 6 (03:33):
I'm saying, explain it to me. What is so bad
about a two seed Eagles team? And Jalen Hurts going
for his first Super Bowl Sekwon Barkley, one of the
most electrifying players in the NFL. Andy Reid looking to
cement himself as one of the best coaches of all time,
and he and Pat Mahomes going for the first ever
three peat.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
All right, you asked, and I'll answer, I have no affiliation. No,
I have complete indifference to the Philadelphia Eagles, And for
that matter, I probably would have completely difference to the
Washington Commanders too. I say, you would have preferred the Commanders. No, No,
I'm let me explain here indifference to who would have
gone on that side. I just in my mind when

(04:12):
this postseason started, I really wanted to see Lamar Jackson
or Josh Allen go to the first Super Bowl. And
that's just a reality. It's not because I hate the Chiefs.
It's not that I hate Andy Reid or I hate
that Travis Kelsey is is doing a little dance, making
a little love and getting down tonight. It's not because

(04:32):
the officials apparently are giving them multiple calls again, which
I'm kind of fatigued over that too. Ross. It's just
not interesting. It's like a reboot. And some people love
reboots TV shows, movies. Some people don't. And I'm in
the in this particular situation, I could not be less

(04:56):
interested in these two teams. And you asked, I'm giving
you the answer. And if I'm wrong, I'm a bad guy.

Speaker 6 (05:04):
No, it's not about being wrong or anything. It's just
in a matter of opinion, and I think most people
agree with you. The vast majority of people that I've
seen talk about this matchup are talking about like it's
some kind of dud matchup against it.

Speaker 2 (05:16):
It's not a dud matchup. It's going to be in
a really awesome game. And so that you know what
we're gonna do. We have to pray ROSSI that it
has to be a really good game. But in terms
of the hype, I would much rather have seen the
Ravens or the Bills, and I think I was pretty
clear on that. I think a lot of us were
because these remember we talked about this so many times
before the playoffs began. There was going to be at

(05:39):
least one, if not two, really awesome quarterbacks that will
have to once again answer to why they can't win
the big game. And Josh Allen is now zero to
four against the Chiefs in the postseason, Lamar Jackson has
to once again have to hear about how he can't
get past there. And I'm not necessarily fatigued to that.
I'm just saying that I would have liked to have

(06:00):
seen something different. And that's what dynasties do sometimes, ladies
and gentlemen. They could give you fatigue when the Aster,
when the Yankees were playing on a routine basis in
the nineteen nineties for the World Series, I had fatigue.
When the Celtics were going to the NBA Finals year
after year after year, I was getting fatigue. Now, remember

(06:20):
there were some Lakers Celtics matchups in during that time
of the eighties that was incredibly good. And I can't
and maybe and hopefully we'll have a great game, but
I ain't gonna lie that. This is the thing. And you
put a poll question up this morning, the least of
the attractive of the four matchups is the one we're getting,
and it may be the best in terms of quality. Obviously,

(06:42):
the Kansasy Chiefs had been We've been telling the America,
has been telling the whole world this year. The Kansasy
Chiefs are a lucky football team. They're winning games on
last second field goals or blocks or pass interferences. You
know what, Kansas City is excellent, It's a dynas. It's
about to maybe win a three peeed in four out

(07:02):
of six years. I mean, it's a dynasty. Tell me
not to like it. So that's how my philosophy is.
I appreciate it, I respect it, don't like it.

Speaker 6 (07:11):
Yeah, I mean, I'm just respecting what the Chiefs went
out there and did. I mean, they took care of
business against the Texans, and then everybody was talking about
the Bills and it was a good game. And well,
there was a questionable fourth down call or a spot
on a fourth down call in that game. But other
than that, I mean, I was really impressed with Andy
Reid and I was really impressed with this Chiefs defense

(07:31):
and doing what they could at the right moments and
getting the victory over a very good Buffalo Bills team.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
And they earned it. They absolutely aren't nobody, Yeah, nobody
should be. No fan in America should be bitching and
complaining about calls. I mean, I am a little fatigued
about that. You know what, there may have been the
spot in the late in the game was very iffy.
There was a catch that may been not have called.
But every time Buffalo had a chance to put the

(08:00):
Kai bosh on some sort of drive with Kansas City,
the Chiefs got the first down. I mean, come on,
you the Buffalo Bills have to stop somebody you have.
If you're going to win the AFC and finally get
over this hump, you gotta make some plays. And Pat
Holmes made the plays over and over and over again.

(08:24):
You cannot take that away from them. Yeah, I get.

Speaker 6 (08:28):
I'm just somebody who I love to watch sports for
a number of reasons. One of those reasons is to
see the greatest athletes on the planet. Another one of
those reasons is to see historic greatness. And what we're
seeing right now with the Chiefs is historic greatness. And
I guess that's just the way I of you. I understand.
I'm well, well well in the minority, and everybody hates
the Chiefs and wanted to get the Chiefs.

Speaker 2 (08:49):
I don't even hate them. I don't.

Speaker 6 (08:50):
I don't get a lot of people do.

Speaker 2 (08:52):
Yeah, I mean, I get it.

Speaker 6 (08:53):
I mean and and Kelsey's and we're gonna get Taylor
Taylor Swift.

Speaker 2 (08:57):
Fatigue Taylor, I don't even care. You know what you're
You're a soft triggered snowflake.

Speaker 6 (09:02):
If you get all upset that they showed Taylor Swift
on the TV for like five seconds. It's a three
hour broadcast and they showed Taylor Swift for like twenty
seconds of it, and then everybody gets all pissy and upset.

Speaker 2 (09:13):
Well, they football game. It was the most popular sports
I mean popular pop culture figure in the world. And
maybe for the rest of her life she will be
down here.

Speaker 6 (09:20):
And I don't even care about that angle Like the
game itself, I mean the touchdown that the Bills got
at the end of the game and then get the
two point conversion to make it too, to tie the
game on the fourth and five touchdown to Curtis Samuel.
I mean, it was just there was a bunch of
great things about that game, and I'm just sitting there,
like I said, I know, I'm in the minority, like
everybody's upset. That was a great game. That was a

(09:42):
fun game.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
See again, I think I can separate being upset from
being bored, and I'm just I can't. Again. Five thirty Sunday,
February it, February ninth, I think, yeah, I'll be in
front of the television. I'll be with the family. Roshi
came over too. If you want to bring a pack back,
you'll spend the night. I'm good sleeping bags kind of thing.

(10:04):
But I gotta I feel my gas tank twice to
get up. I can't be I want to be authentic
with the audience, and I'm just like, absolutely, let's go.
I mean two weeks is fine, but I'm I'm not
getting a deep dive on it.

Speaker 7 (10:15):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (10:15):
Ross, You've got a specialty podcast called Inside the Chiefs
and you can do all that. Mm hmm. But yeah,
I mean there's to me, there's twenty other local things
that are gonna interest intrigue me more than will be
the second time in three years. And like I said,
I have no affiliation at all for the I mean,
if it was Dallas, it'd be something juicy, you know,
to get on, or or Minnesota with the Sam Donald

(10:38):
or Detroit with their first Donald. Not Sam is not right,
Sam Donald?

Speaker 8 (10:42):
Right?

Speaker 2 (10:42):
Yeah, yeah, But I'm talking about the This is a
guy that was left for dead. You had the the
Lions was scoring all the point. I mean there was
there were several teams in the NFL and the NFC
side that would have been more intriguing. So either either
with Washington or Philadelphia, I was indifferent to it. Man.
I would have loved to see Josh Allen get his
first shot. I would have loved to have seen Lamar Jackson.
I would have loved for that first selfishly for the

(11:03):
Texans to get that first shot. They weren't gonna get it.
But my point is it's fine, but you know what,
you know, it's the burg ing of Super Bowl.

Speaker 6 (11:13):
The the networks disagree. I think this is maybe the
least match up with people. This is probably the number
one matchup the network networks wanted. Yeah, fine, they want
their Eagles and Chiefs and so yeah, like I said,
I mean, Nick Sirianni was everybody's talking about how he
needed to be fired and he was a terrible coach,
and a lot of people talking about Jalen Hurts in
that offense, said Kwan Barkley left for dead by the Giants.

Speaker 2 (11:34):
I mean, I think I think there's plenty of intrigue
in this for me. Yeah, all right, we got a
lot to get to on the radio show, so we'll
throw this out very early. But we have I mean,
we have a I mean a loaded program in terms
of topics. Are you now, don't tell me you're not
going to watch the game, because that's just a lie.
Don't lie to us. But are you generally excited about

(11:56):
the game coming up like this is I mean, Ross
gave a nice detailed run of how awesome this is
going to be, and I'm like, okay, that's fine. Give
me good give me a good three and a half
hour game. Actually, give me a good five hour game.
Because of the half time, it's gonna take them real
a long time. Seven one three two one two five
seven ninety Are you fired up for this matchup between
clearly the two best teams in the NFL that performed

(12:18):
it beautifully during the postseason in Kansas City. Everybody was
trying to take them out their pedestal. They're still on top.
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven Nintie, it's ten sixteen.
It's a Matt Thomas Ross. I'm here in Boston for
Rockets and Celtics tonight here on seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (12:35):
This is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross on four
Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (12:44):
Ten, twenty Sports Talks seven ninety It is the Matt
Thomas Show with Ross. Ladies and gentlemen. We have a
plethora of topics to get to in no particular order. Today,
Casey beats Buffalo. We had Philadelphia crushing Washington. We have
the Rockets playing the Celtics tonight after beating the Cavaliers

(13:06):
two times in one week. We have my Houston Cougars
pulling off a highly and I mean highly improbable win
against Camas.

Speaker 6 (13:15):
The luckiest thing I've ever seen in basketball history.

Speaker 2 (13:18):
Oh, it's almost like again.

Speaker 6 (13:20):
Everybody has been sending me tweets and my buddy's been
sending me texts about ESPN had it at ninety nine
points seven percent with candles are gonna win.

Speaker 2 (13:26):
I'm sick of those numbers. See, I'm not on Wednesday.
I might have to call in on Wednesday because I'm
just ready to tell some people to shut their bomb
asses up this ESPN percentile. Whoever does it enough of that? Well,
of course it's our nine point seven. But the thing,
I'll respond back. So you're saying there's a chance, and
there is, and there was, and there was, And then

(13:47):
we got Ryan Presley traded, We've got Alex Bragman. We
got to hear how your weekend went with the astros
Fest thing going on. And then let me tell you
something fight in Texas, Aggie basketball. Oh and let me
tell you back in the day, Rossie. When these were
student athletes and they weren't being compensated legally, it was
very difficult for anybody to say, oh, that team choked

(14:09):
because they're kids. Are eighteen nineteen years old, Rossi, they're
growing ass man, making NL money. Aggies, you choked, you
one hundred percent choked. Twenty two point lead, second half.
You choked. We get the win probability for you on
that one match. No, I don't want it.

Speaker 6 (14:27):
Looks like it went up to ninety eight point three.

Speaker 2 (14:29):
Oh my god, was it twenty two second and it
was a twenty two point.

Speaker 6 (14:31):
Twenty two I went to twenty two points in the
I think twenty two points might have been the first half. Okay,
at the most it was twenty two points.

Speaker 2 (14:39):
So I'm gonna peel the curtain back just for a second,
because that's what we do here on the show. My
middle son, Peyton, well, I love an Ador, will be
graduating this make I love and adore him as well
you do. He's very very emotional about his Aggies, uncomfortably
emotional about them. Okay, so we have to walk on

(15:00):
eggshells when we talk about the Aggies. I'll text them
when they win. If they get close or they lose.
I don't respond to him. Okay, that's just the rule.
His brother knows that, his sister knows that, and his
mother knows that. We just don't talk about it. So Cameron,

(15:20):
his older brother, sent us in a family group text, Hey,
pay great job, y'all are kicking Texas's ass in their
own building. Okay. Peyton doesn't respond. I said, pay get
to a television as soon as possible and watch it.
This is fun. You guys are about to beat the
Aggies twice in the and the Longhorns twice in the

(15:41):
same year, and then the implosion. Hmmm. So after the game,
after losing Tramon Mark with the former Cougar by the
Way and former Arkansas razorback Mark, it's fine. He wins
the game. I don't send the text. I don't say anything.

(16:04):
Find out late yesterday that Peyton called his mother and said,
please tell my siblings, my brothers and sisters, and my dad.
I don't want to talk about Aggie basketball at any
point the rest of the year. So there you have.

Speaker 6 (16:17):
What program did he think he signed up for?

Speaker 2 (16:20):
I don't know, but he's so miserable.

Speaker 6 (16:22):
I get in Texas a and m Aggie's who is
basketball team who has never been to an Elite eight?
And who's basketball whose football team hasn't won anything in
football since Hitler invaded Poland he signed up for that
and he can't handle losses. Come on, let's go grow up, Peyton,

(16:42):
Let's go, buddy.

Speaker 2 (16:44):
I just can't. I can't do it to him. And
when my son calls his mother and says, please have
dad and my brothers and sisters not text me about
Aggie basketball the rest of the year. Oh, hold, by
the way, my I'm gonna chick a phone call. I
got something at the front door. Is Matt leaving his hotel?
Just hold on one second? Just one? Are you getting
up right? You really? I'll tell you the reason why.
Just second? How are you serious? On one second?

Speaker 6 (17:06):
Okay, I'm just gonna stall. I'm not even gonna take
a phone call because we're only a couple of minutes
away for Brick. I'm intrigued what is going on here.
I'm just trying to try to listen to what Matt's
talking about. Okay, now he's coming back there. All right,
I'm back and a great call there, Steve in Periland.
We'll talk to you down the road. I'll go ahead, Matt.

Speaker 2 (17:26):
What did Steven Parland have to say? Oh he said
you suck. I'm sure it's very rude. We hung up
on him. All right. So I have a stat service
that helps me with game stats for the game. Oh
they were late. You don't even do your own game prep. No,
I do my own game prep. I prepped like a money.
You heard the broadcast. You how good are you get
a prep service? You just said, Well, but I mean
it helps me. It doesn't like I mean, it doesn't

(17:47):
speak for me. I have to still communicate the game. Well,
they got really the stats prep service. Prep service got late.
So usually when I get in the morning, I go
down printed downstairs at the hotel and I go get it. Well,
I tell mo, I'm on the air for the next
four hours, so I can't really go down there.

Speaker 6 (18:01):
So they brought it to me that nice kind of
That's great, Matt.

Speaker 9 (18:05):
Okay, there you go.

Speaker 2 (18:05):
That's all. I had. Nothing, It was nothing anything more
than that.

Speaker 6 (18:08):
This sounds like fancy man activities. I got another story
about the run up to your five diamond hotel room.

Speaker 2 (18:14):
I got another story. It's crazy. Okay, both sex and
calls first seven one three, two, one, two five seven,
AUNTI are you excited. I'm not asking you to get
fired up. I'm not asking you to lose your lunch
over this game coming up. But tell me your excitement level,
maybe like a one to ten to one to five.

Speaker 6 (18:32):
I watch a bunch of frauds.

Speaker 2 (18:33):
No, I'm not saying you don't want it. If you're
not watching, your lying to it. You're lying to yourself
because you're not gonna watch Lifetime. You're not gonna watch
some people tell people you're not gonna watch reruns of
Golden Girls. You're going to watch the game because you're
a grown ass man or woman. But there's a difference
in being excited about something and having it on. And

(18:55):
I'm gonna be burtling honest hopeful the game will make
me excited. But it's at five aready on Sunday in
February ninth. It'll bit just beyond except for halftime, when
the greatest I'm getting a little choked up about this. Okay, man,
n gonna be out at halftime. I know you're excited.
Oh my god, I'm pumped up. I can't believe it,

(19:17):
so fired up, so happy for him. Renfro Missouri City.
What do you think about the Super Bowl coming up?

Speaker 10 (19:23):
Oh?

Speaker 11 (19:24):
Man, I'm a team. Well, I'm super excited about it, really,
be honest, which because first of all, Jalen Hurston made
it again. Second term, he get a chance to redeem himself.
Because if you notice the last Foot Bowl when they
when both teams played, it was who was gonna have
the ball? Mask and Kansas City they had the ball
that and they didn't give it back because neither team
could really stop it. It was definitely the game to watch,

(19:45):
and it's good to see a repeat of the same
two teams, uh, trying to do it out again. And
I'm like you, Matt, I'm uh, Kansas City just is
just good. Like you said, they are dynastic and uh,
you know when you look cat and you and you
see how they want everything that Hey, that's what good
teams do. I remember the years when Fishbury was playing

(20:06):
and how Fishbury kept going. They were playing ugly football,
but they was winning. And when you win, I mean,
I think that's all that count. And when you do win,
you do get a lot of haters and everything else,
you know, but it was it was excited I agree
with you. Buffalo had that chances to make one stop
that all had to do stop get the ball back,

(20:26):
and then because I really felt Jeorge and Johnson's gonna
be good. He's good, There's no doubt about that. He's
a hell of a football player, a hell of a quarterback,
you know. But I was very impressed also with that,
you know, the opportunity that they had, they just didn't
take advantage of it.

Speaker 8 (20:42):
Uh.

Speaker 11 (20:42):
But Kenni City is just that damn good.

Speaker 12 (20:45):
Uh.

Speaker 11 (20:45):
They all being hated a lot, you know, and everything
that most teams hate hate winners, but we got to
give them their dudes.

Speaker 2 (20:53):
Uh.

Speaker 11 (20:54):
One thing else, I want to throw this out there,
The Washington the Washington Commander is going to be a
good team too. I mean, that kid played a hell
of a football game. He just didn't have any help
with his team fumbling the balls and everything else, you know,
So that really took them out of the rhythm, those
fumbles of the thumbers off the kickoff and the other

(21:14):
two thumbers that they had. So and I thought, if
you gave him a chance of the tight game, he
would have been an exciting place too. So we can
get ready to look at you know, or Washington Commanders
being one of those teams that's gonna they gonna definitely
field on this season and everything else. And they just
played a great Philadelphia team, which I think is gonna

(21:34):
be around. Those two teams gonna be around for a while.
And how Dallas is going to get back in the
midst is gonna be funny because I don't see Dallas
being able to overtake those two teams real quick. But
let me say this, if you don't have a good
offensive coordinator that can design plays as the game goes,

(21:56):
and the reader is one of the best, I want
to see what this guy Chicago going to do with,
you know, the out of the coordinator just got the
coaching job. I want to see what he's really going
to do because I'm really excited about his play calling,
and I think that's what's gonna kind of stock to
grow for the Texas if we don't get a play
on this guy about it so it doesn't learn to,

(22:20):
you know, the game as you grow. All We're going
to pass on him really getting it together because that's
the only thing that I can see holding down the
Texas team. But I'm excited about this football the Super
Bowl coming.

Speaker 2 (22:33):
Thank you very much, man, appreciate the phone call. Thank
you for joining us. More of you coming up in
a matter of moment. It's ten thirty Sports Talks Sevenini,
Matt and Ross with you. I'm here in Boston for
Celtics and Rockets. But first a word for Two Creeks
Crossing Resort. I want you to enjoy the warmer weather
coming up for the next handful of days. I want
you to be thinking about spring break plans. I want
you to be thinking about a variety of things and

(22:54):
getting outdoors and hanging on in some great water front cabins.
There are some glamping tents, there's your and a great
facility known as Great Campus. Great property of Two Creeks
Crossing Resort, full Wi FI all throughout the property. There
is a catch and release pond. There is a pool,
there's a hot tub, there's a pickleball, there's workout fits,

(23:15):
the there's a place to clean your clothes, and a
great little community center. There is a mentioned in the
past before. There's a movie theater they've put together. There
is a ice house. So many fun things to do
while still enjoying the outdoors. Forty percent off I repeat,
forty percent off between now and the end of February
at Two Creeks Crossing Resort on the Cabins. If you

(23:36):
have an RV and looking for a site to drop it,
it's twenty percent off there at Two Creeks Crossing Resort
website again. Check it out two Creekscrossingresort dot com. We're
gonna honor the former astro Ryan Presley coming up at
about twenty five minutes from now in the next segment
of the show, We're going to get Ross's astro. They

(23:59):
call it fanfa Is that what they called? I don't
know what they called. Yeah, Astros fan Fest saw a
lot of photos with you. You did probably could have
worn a little bit of a nicer collared shirt, maybe
some khaki's or something. What do you mean? What do
you mean? What do you mean? He could mean you
could go to dress the occasion?

Speaker 6 (24:13):
There was was anybody dressed nice there?

Speaker 2 (24:16):
I was? I was in a coat because it was cold.
Did Gordy Wars sweatshirt? Let's see. Wexler was in a
hoodie in jeans. Are you criticizing him? Yeah? Dan Matthews
was in a hoodie in.

Speaker 6 (24:27):
Jeans and I was in a quarter zip in jeans.

Speaker 2 (24:30):
Oh maybe then you were the best dressed.

Speaker 6 (24:32):
You know what, shut jobumass up. At least I didn't
wear a Bregman jersey?

Speaker 2 (24:41):
Who did that?

Speaker 6 (24:43):
Ryan Roma did that last year? Last year?

Speaker 2 (24:48):
Oh no, I think it was a Bregman jersey. I
can't remember.

Speaker 6 (24:53):
Look the guy was going to Astros fan Fest and
he wore a jersey.

Speaker 2 (24:56):
Yeah no, are you choking back there? Yeah?

Speaker 6 (25:02):
Actually, I've had a bad cough. I haven't been able
to kick it for like a week.

Speaker 2 (25:05):
Really, ow, I got a little bit of a scratchy throw.
This weather change is going from twenty to fifty to twenty,
back and forth. It's not great. But how's the casino
in Boston? It took me yesterday. It's fine. Steve Wins.
Steve Win's pockets got fatter. I'm gonna tell you all something.
If you want the nicest casino outside of Las Vegas,

(25:25):
it's the Encore. So nice. I love it. It's for
those who are going to Vegas. It's exact replica of
the Encore and Loss. It's so nice.

Speaker 6 (25:33):
I was like, they're gonna kick me out of here,
and I wasn't even doing anything.

Speaker 2 (25:38):
Food options were good, people were nice, the tables were
not playing. Were not nice to me. But it's limits
lemits high twenty five. But you got three to two.
Oh that's good. Yeah. In Cleveland there was six to
five on the black jack, so I was not happy
about that. That's a stay away, Matt. Well, no, I
can't stay away when it's twenty feet for my hotel.

Speaker 6 (25:57):
Your eyes start twitching, started getting the shakes.

Speaker 2 (26:00):
Oh, let's go to the phones to talk to Bobby
in Memorial the ten thirty eight on seven ninety Bobby, good.

Speaker 9 (26:05):
Morning, Oh man, I'm super happy. I've been a Cougar
season ticket over now for six seven eight years, and
I don't know how many they've won in a row
at home thirty three, but I've been to thirty two
of them, and just to watch the way they played
defense and the intensity that the coach instills in them,
and it's just it's just a joy to watch. And

(26:27):
the coach is just a wonderful person. And oh my god,
I used to go to the games and before he
got there and no one was there, and now that
he's there, everybody comes in with the U of H
hat shirt something and it's just I can't even tell
you what a joy to be a season ticket over
and for the people that haven't gone to see him.
Some of these games you can get on stub Hub

(26:48):
for like six dollars during the week, So I encourage
everybody to come check them out live because it's just awesome.
And that's all I got.

Speaker 2 (26:57):
Thanks for the show, Bobby, all right, appreciate it. Yeah,
I gotta look, I'm an equal opportunity optimist and an
equal opportunity pessimist. The building still even though every ticket
is sold, people can still get in. No show factor
at Cougar basketball games is immense, really yeah, and I'm
very disappointed.

Speaker 6 (27:17):
Isn't that thing only hold like eight thousand people?

Speaker 2 (27:19):
No, it's like seventy four hundred. Yeah, come on, Cooks fans.

Speaker 6 (27:26):
There's seventy four hundred Koks fans getting mad at me
on Twitter, so we can at least fill up the building.

Speaker 2 (27:31):
Yeah, if anybody has ever been mad at Ross for
any length of time that includes his family, please go
to the next game that plays with me full. I
never have an unsold seat. Trors never spoken rose to
tell you that. Uh yeah, it was very difficult for

(27:52):
me because the game between Kansas and U of H
had like a sixty minute headstart on me and the
Rockets and Cavaliers. So I would call the Rockets Cavillers
and then check the phone and I'm like, oh, they're
down by six, down by nine, down by seven, down
by three, down by zero, up by three, up by four.
I mean, it was it. It was all over the place.
And then they were down six with like fifteen seconds left.

(28:13):
I'm like, all right, I'll turn it off, and then
I go check the phone because I had the feet
on and they were in overtime. I'm like, what happened?
It was as gutsy of a victory as you will find.
First of all, fog Allen looks like it's an incredible place.
I'm put on Twitter, yessay, the it's the number one
place I want to go to see a basketball game
that I have not gone to yet. And to go

(28:33):
into that building against the top fifteen team to beat them,
that was a huge win. And Joe Lenardi, if you
don't get them out of the four spot in your bracket,
I'm gonna find you and beat you down. Yeah, I'm
with I was watching it on Saturday.

Speaker 6 (28:48):
It wasn't on what time was the game? I can't
remember by thirty, I don't know what exactly. Oh, I
was watching the Rockets.

Speaker 2 (28:54):
I was watching the Rockets and then I had that
on a side TV and I stopped watching. I literally
thought it. So I was like six seconds and they
were going to the free throw line. I completely blocked
it out of my vision. And then five minutes later
or whatever, I'm like what, yeah, second, yeah, how did?

Speaker 6 (29:12):
I had to go on my phone and look at
the play by play because I was in disbelief.

Speaker 2 (29:16):
Yeah, it was crazy. Yeah. Juwan Roberts had twenty four points.
I mean that's a cur high for him.

Speaker 6 (29:24):
I think he's the one that made the fallaway through
or no, did he he made his two he had.

Speaker 2 (29:30):
He had a bunch of baskets and overtimes. I know that.
And then Malik Wilson, I'm trying to give you compare
to Malik Wilson hardly plays, but because of injuries to
a variety of different folks, he stepped up and I
think he scored like eighteen points.

Speaker 6 (29:42):
I mean it would be like Aaron Holiday scoring twenty
five for the Rockets.

Speaker 2 (29:47):
That's how big of a big difference maker. But yeah, yeah,
I mean it can, but it doesn't normally. And here's
the guy like Milik Wilson would be the would be
the easy case of I'm a really good player, I
was highly recruited. I'm not playing here. Guess I'm gonna
do an end of the portal. He's been here since
the start of his college career. I think I know
he's had chance to leave, but he has it and

(30:08):
he made the most of his time. Fifteen thousand people
completely shell shocked in Lawrence, Kansas, very very impressive when
and I'm happy and I'm ross. I brought this up
better day. I think it was with somebody in the
Rockets traveling party. He's like, it's like final four or bust.
I'm like, yeah, it kind of is pretty much. So
I will be despondent if they don't make it the

(30:29):
final four. I think they're gonna make it, Matt. I
don't really know the rest of the landscape. But even
if I did, I don't. You can't. It's they're sixty
eight teams. It's gonna take. I mean, you have to
go through a bunch of really good teams in short
periods of time. But damn one.

Speaker 6 (30:48):
See that first matchup is cake. Second matchup usually you're
like eight to ten point favorites. You're then you're into
the sweet sixteen.

Speaker 2 (30:55):
Well my guess is you know again, Lenardi is just
one person. But the net ratings and the camp Palm
have the Cougar my way way way high.

Speaker 6 (31:04):
Uh yeah, ken Palm still has them at third behind
Duke and Auburn, who beat Tennessee over the weekend.

Speaker 2 (31:10):
Yeah, the Cougars have not lost since they played those
games in Vegas and that was like in what late
November or something like that, seven lost state or something. Yeah,
I mean you got to you got a haircut the
last time they lost a home game. I mean it's
been that long. I probably did get a trim around them. Actually. Okay,
so shout out and by the way, shout out to
the Rockets too. How about the Rockets winning in Cleveland. Yeah,

(31:32):
we hadn't even talked about that. They swept God, they
swept the one seed in the East, swept the one
seed and granted's Cleveland wasn't a back to back, but
you know what, Yeah, I's a bitch. It just is.

Speaker 6 (31:43):
Yeah, And I mean Kris LeVert wasn't there. There's Cavs fans.

Speaker 2 (31:47):
On don't forget about him. He wasn't there either, But.

Speaker 6 (31:50):
Evan Mobley was there and played Chingoon and Jalen Green
when they have twenty six apiece.

Speaker 2 (31:56):
Yeah, I mean, Ben Thompson is becoming like a folk
here around the country.

Speaker 6 (32:02):
I tweeted, was this premature man? I tweeted, he's their
most valuable player?

Speaker 2 (32:07):
I don't know. Let's let's find that. Uh. He wakes
up with double doubles. He had a triple double against
the Given on Saturday. He defends five different players, he's
the best under him, he rebounds, he's smart. I mean, yeah,
I'm pretty good with that. I didn't jump the gun. Okay, good, good,
all right, come back. We're gonna get a full report
from Rossie on FanFest. What the vibe was like and

(32:28):
how many Alex Brigmant questions did he asked everybody? And
who gave the best and who gave the worst answer.
It's all straight ahead. As a Matt Thomaschell, Ross continues,
I'm here in Boston for Celtics and Rockets tonight right
here on Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 1 (32:39):
Ninety Matton ross return return on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (32:48):
Ten forty nine Matt Thomas Show with You with Ross
on Sports Talk seven ninety We welcome to you on
the phones to join the conversation at seven one three, two,
one two five, seven ninety and man, we got so
much to get to that I want to just rotate
the topics. But if something's hot and you guys, hear
something or haven't heard something, you want to chime in,
just because we're not talking about in this particular moment,
feel free to come on. In between the Super Bowl

(33:11):
team matchups. We've got uh, Cougar's Rockets, Brigman talk Presley,
Uh what else? Oh? Oh, by the way, the Texans
still looking need an offensive coordinator. The Chip Kelly rumors
are out there, but it's not just the Texans. There
are multiple teams that apparently have would like to kick
the tires and perhaps bringing Chip Kelly in. Clint Kobiak,

(33:31):
who was a potential candidate for the Texans, is now
the offensive coordinator in Seattle. Jerrod Johnson might be in
a situation where he might be staying here. Who knows.
Seven one three, two, one two five seven NINTI is
how you reach our program? Seven one three two one, two,
five seven. Nintie Rossie, you were at Astro's fan fest.
Give us the vibe, give us a rundown, and give

(33:52):
us some anecdotal things about all the different folks you
talk to. Uh, let's see, the vibe was good. It
didn't seem nothing. Now it's twenty one thousand fans. I
think it didn't seem to me like it was more
populated than years past. But that's okay. Let's see.

Speaker 6 (34:09):
As far as the guest list, I think we started
with spent to rig Getty was really good.

Speaker 2 (34:16):
Dana Brown.

Speaker 6 (34:16):
The way that Dana Brown was talking about the Alex
Bregman thing, and I saw Ken Rosenthal put out I
think it was recently that he wouldn't bet against the
Astros and the negotiation. But just the vibe in the
body language of Dana Brown talking about bregmant, it seemed
like it's it seems like it's a far fetched thing
to happen, all right. Also, it's not his call necessarily.

Speaker 2 (34:40):
No, no, no, I'm sure that when it comes to
money spending and competitive balance, tax and all that type
of Jim Green, Jim Crane's call. Yeah, But I wonder
how much of the of the Presley salary dump is
going to help on that. I know that was imminent. Yeah,
so here's when you say that and not hearing Dana

(35:01):
specifically caught some some clips on the social media. But
is he doing this because he's just trying to keep
the door open a little bit? The door crack? I
think that's the phrase we've been using. Is he doing
this to make sure that Jose tube you know, because
remember Jose was pretty adamant about wanting to keep this
guy here. I mean, was it trying to play kate
to him or is it well, if nobody else wants him,

(35:24):
we'll take him. I mean, they could be all the
combination all the above. I just said, but yeah, I
got the same vibe, but it was we're talking, but
we're kind of already set too.

Speaker 13 (35:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (35:37):
Uh. And you know, Dana Brown is always a guy
and you've interviewed him man and we have over the years.

Speaker 6 (35:43):
He always is super optimistic. He's always like.

Speaker 2 (35:46):
Yeah, man, maybe we can get this done. Maybe who's
gonna come back?

Speaker 12 (35:50):
Ron?

Speaker 2 (35:51):
This is a good move for Rafio Montero.

Speaker 6 (35:53):
Y John Singleton's got a lot of pop like, he's
always optimistic, So for him to be like, yeah, I
just it just seems like a remote possibility, right. I
don't have these exact words, but basically to that effect,
that just makes me think that it's not going to happen.
So I was surprised to see the thing from ken
Rosenthal that he's favoring the Astros in this negotiation, and

(36:13):
Ken Rosendals obviously over the year, has been very plugged
in with the Astros.

Speaker 2 (36:18):
The number one thing I can't get past is that
you wouldn't have made all these other other side moves
if you really thought Alex was gonna come back. And look,
if Alex comes back, I'll be very happy. I mean,
I don't want to hide the fact that I would
be not fired up for him to come back, but
you would be then taking granted again, al two bay
is no longer an elite second basement, but you're asking

(36:39):
him to do something he's never done in his professional
career and at his age. And again it's not like
he's filing for Social Security tomorrow. But we know what
it's like to see massive changes for a defensive player
late in their career. And I don't think anybody is
gonna be thinking, oh, Josale two bays in the left
field is gonna be fun. That's another thing.

Speaker 6 (37:02):
Everybody that we talked to we kind of joked about
playing left field, and they all seemed to by like
laughing it off and dismissing it as just complete nonsense,
is what it felt. That was the vibe. You're asking
for the vibe, That was the.

Speaker 2 (37:12):
Vibe, right, Okay, So Eric, did you talk about his flow?

Speaker 6 (37:16):
Yeah, we did talk about his flow. He said he
likes it, he's going to keep it. Also, Taylor Scott,
he was super nice and outgoing and loud and fun
and so I don't know, Matt, maybe he just in
front of the show. Now, No, I'm just kidding. He
was exactly like he was with you.

Speaker 2 (37:34):
Was he really tell you don't take any offense to anything?
He said?

Speaker 6 (37:37):
He was very matter of fact, straightforward. That's just his personality.
He doesn't mean to any offend. So we had Taylor
Scott on last year and we thought he hated you,
but it just turns out that's just kind of the
guy he is. He's not rude, he's just short and
matter of fact.

Speaker 2 (37:52):
Yeah. You know, it's funny because we had Steven Adams
on it at Media Day this year, and we were
kind of taken it back by him not being very gregarious.
He wanted to supplet you he did, or at least
put me in a in a full Nelson. Yeah.

Speaker 6 (38:06):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (38:06):
And we had him on the post game in Cleveland
a couple nights back, and I see him in the
hotel and we say hello to each other. He's very pleasant,
but he's just you know, some people just don't like
to do a media Yeah. And it's like I feel
like with Taylor. You know, middle relievers don't get called
on a lot.

Speaker 6 (38:22):
So it's not one of those situations where he's comfortable
or he's okay kind of being in the background.

Speaker 2 (38:27):
Steven Adams gonna be in the exact same situation. They'll
do it. They'll give you the answers, but they're not
gonna go out of their way to give you anecdotal stories. Yeah,
you know, it is what it is.

Speaker 6 (38:38):
I thought Spencer Araghetty was extremely articulate and fun and funny.
I think if he wants to, at some point later
in his many many years down the road, pursue a
media job, I think he can do that.

Speaker 2 (38:51):
I was talking about that already. With him before. Yeah,
he's he's good. He was great. He no hit my
make Creek grams like twice.

Speaker 6 (38:57):
Oh yeah, that's true. Well also, can do they even
feel the full squad over there?

Speaker 2 (39:03):
I don't know, sorry, man, I mean I love my
high school, but it's it's not the same high school
I went to. Hayden was an esque, was good. He talked.

Speaker 6 (39:11):
Hayden wasn't ask he said he's in six fantasy leagues.
Oh god he So we were talking fantasy football basically
the entire time.

Speaker 2 (39:18):
That was fun. That was a good interview. What else?
Bryce Matthews the young prospect and he's good. Where's he
gonna play this year? I think shortstop but Sugarland? Huh okay?
And then Astro's legend Taylor Trummel was also on, and
how was that? He was good? So you guys did okay? Yeah,

(39:41):
so it took three of you to interview these people, though,
huh uh yeah.

Speaker 8 (39:46):
No.

Speaker 6 (39:46):
Everybody wants to gain on the act, to have a
good time, talk some astros ball.

Speaker 2 (39:50):
It's all good, okay, all right, well good, I'm glad
you guys had a good time and the end was cool.
The temperatures made you wire jacket.

Speaker 6 (39:57):
It was chilly by the end of it. My hands
were getting cold, but I was fine.

Speaker 2 (40:00):
Were they sell in the old jerseys of former players
out there too, like at massive discounts? Yeah? I think so.

Speaker 6 (40:06):
If you want to Bend Gammel jersey, you can get
one on the cheap.

Speaker 2 (40:09):
Yeah. I wonder if you can get a Brian Mohler
on the cheap jersey too. Well, those those might have
been sold out, Matt for you. Yeah, those are definitely gone. Yeah,
all right, we need to honor Ryan Presley. We'll do that.
To start the second hour of The Matt Thomas Show
with ross I'm here in Boston for tonight. We got
a pretty good matchup. Do we have an NBA Finals preview? Rossie? Hello, Hello,

(40:31):
that's probably not. But that's really not the craziest thing
you've ever said. Well, you know, it's funny because I
have an engineering statistician in Cleveland who I like, we
got a really good group of people we travel with
and that aren't working in these cities. And I told
the Cleveland folcus, I said, hey, I'll see you in junior.
You're like, Okay, I'm like, I don't know. I look,
I've seen Cleveland play twice. I've seen Boston in person once,

(40:54):
and I see Boston and TV all the time and again.
I'll know more obviously tonight when the Rockets by the Celtics.
But I think the Celtics so they're gonna have very
little resistance with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Ah. I tend to
think you're right.

Speaker 6 (41:05):
But if that Cavaliers team is healthy, that defense is
going to keep them in games, and they if they
just get hot for a series, shooting the lights out
of which they can.

Speaker 2 (41:14):
I didn't see that defense on Saturday. I can tell
you that, for damn No.

Speaker 6 (41:16):
I think when yeah, the Rockets played really well and look,
they shot like forty percent from three, They're not gonna
Rockets aren't gonna do that every single game.

Speaker 2 (41:24):
Let's be honest, all right, we honor Ryan Presley and
talk about the departure of our former closer, former eighth
inning guy. Next, it's ten to fifty seven Ross back
in our studios here in Houston.

Speaker 6 (41:34):
Yes, so I'm back here for Centergenics. Those are the
people that we need to talk about when I talk
when we're talking about your health and well being, your
day to day life. Did you make those New Year's resolutions.

Speaker 2 (41:42):
Do you say, I'm.

Speaker 6 (41:43):
Gonna lose weight, I'm gonna hit the gym, I'm gonna
up my workouts to two from three a week.

Speaker 2 (41:47):
And you haven't felt the motivation, haven't felt the energy.
What's going on? Maybe your testosterol levels are lower than
they should be. Get them checked.

Speaker 1 (42:30):
Lunchtimers, This is the Matt Thomas.

Speaker 14 (42:34):
Show, Presley, the high Set, hands Away for the Body,
the pitch Twing. You get a mass slider gets toran
good morning, good afternoon, and good night and Ryan Presley
strikes out the side at an impressive top of the ninth.
The rubber for the first base side of the slider,
cup set letter high, hands away for the body, go

(42:56):
up to totaurres twy got a mess, got him on
a slider. Yankees down to their final album.

Speaker 2 (43:03):
There is throwing it as hard as he can.

Speaker 14 (43:06):
What a pitch pray you holding on yell off at first,
The one breaking ball bounce right side, charging Dubond. He
gloves underhands to first and that is the ball game.
Ryan Presley gets his one hundredth career save as the
Astros pick up the victory, and they've taken the first
two games in Oakland, winning tonight by a final of

(43:28):
six to four. That is three straight wins for the Astros.
Ready for an two from Presley. Pitch on the way
and that is strike three call on the outside corner.
Presley pounds his chest with his right hand as low
goes down looking to retire the side.

Speaker 2 (43:44):
So a lot of drama at the start of.

Speaker 14 (43:46):
This inning, but it ends with the Rangers stranding a
couple run.

Speaker 2 (43:50):
For a long time, I have a simple question for you, Houston, Texas.
Do you appreciate Ryan Presley as much as I think
Ross and I have over the last seven seasons since
twenty eighteen huge part of this team's success winning a
World Series being an absolute fantastic closer slash late end guy.

(44:12):
Has he been perfect? No, But I would say Ross,
if you were to give somebody like if Mariano Rivera
is an A plus, it's not that's too big. Let's
go three gallible. Let's who is a Billy Wagner. I'm
trying to get off of Hall of Fame guys. I'm
just trying to a really good guy, Like, who's a
really good closer? Right now? Okay, you're not. How about

(44:36):
me here? If a high end guy is a plus,
like doesn't surrender anything, Okay, I say Ryan Press is
an as I'm going beat. But is that too generous?

Speaker 6 (44:54):
I'd say this point in his career, beat you were
talking about his astros tenure Astro dar a minus is fine. Yeah, Yeah,
that's what I'm going He was a lockdown guy for
a couple of years. There was some slippage in his game,
He's stopped throwing his fastball, but he was still great
and most importantly nails in the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (45:13):
Yeah. If A plus is the gold standard. It's like
Mariano playoff, He's an A minus. Now, were there's some
games in July that made you queasy? Of course there were.
Would you like to have seen more clean innings the
last couple of years? Absolutely?

Speaker 6 (45:33):
But yeah, I would say a minus Astro's career. And
if you if you give me a minus, that means
you're winning a lot of ball games, you're saving a
lot of ball games, and you were helping your team
out during its most prosperous time as a franchise. Yeah,
forty five and a third innings in the postseason, two
point seven to eight ERA sixty strikeouts in those forty
five innings. Pretty darn good.

Speaker 2 (45:54):
Pretty darn good, pretty pretty pretty good. It is the
Bat Tomas Show. Would you like to say your final
farewells to Ryan Presley? You know I didn't put out
the what was your favorite Ryan Presley as an Astro's
moment because really just frankly a lot of them.

Speaker 6 (46:08):
How about getting the final out of the twenty twenty
two World Series.

Speaker 2 (46:11):
With a great rab by one hundred pence in right field,
right territory? Kind of not exactly, Kyle Tucker. Yeah, wasn't
a great wasn't a great crab. It was a great
grab against the wall. No, I was wel territory down
the foul territory. If I was thinking about the Kyle
Tucker down the foul line. I just don't know if

(46:32):
you're messing with me or not. No, no, no, I'm not
trying to Yeah, as you get older, you lose memories.
So I forget your name half the times I had
to write it down in bold. It's ross, all right, So,
ladies and gentlemen, we say goodbye to Ryan Presley. Astros
get a a prospect in return, have to give some
cash to the Cubs as part of it. But what

(46:52):
I'm not catching And I was watching a little bit
of MLB this morning this morning, It's almost like saying,
watching USA Today today, okay, eating I should say. Uh.
They were like, this is gonna help Bregman situation. I
find it gonna be two completely different situations.

Speaker 6 (47:07):
I guess it helps them stay under does it get
them under? Look, we need a capologist. Basically, that's boring people.
Would I can't figure out what the heck is going on.
I thought they were making this move to get under
the tacks and then they're gonna go back over it
with Bregman.

Speaker 2 (47:23):
Yeah, ball the way, do we need an update? Let's
go and fire that bad boy off?

Speaker 10 (47:27):
We sure?

Speaker 2 (47:28):
Why not? Oh you lost the show. The bit's never
going away much dis chagrine of some sounds like the

(47:48):
Mets are out rossy on and I think, yeah, the Mets,
And it's like the Tigers are the team that probably
financially and from a need perspective, need at third basement
more or infielder for any more than anybody else, and
they're kind of just sitting on their hands. Hmm. Okay,

(48:10):
Bragman's calling like AJ saying, bro, what's up man? I
can bring some incredible salsa to the Upper Midwest. I
guess they need it. Oh my god. The Mexican food
to trade atrocious. That's why I had chee cheese for
the first time. Remember that's where you did what for
the first time had chee cheese?

Speaker 6 (48:33):
Did you like chea cheese? It was mid I've had better, really,
you know, like later in life it's been a wats
have had chee cheese?

Speaker 11 (48:44):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (48:44):
I would say it mostly as a youth. So you're
saying you could use more che cheese. If it's if
it's if it tastes better. Of course. Mm.

Speaker 6 (48:55):
You don't think chee cheese has gone up in quality.

Speaker 2 (48:58):
It depends on who's serving it. Your father managed chea cheese, yes,
I told you that he was a che cheese manager. Yeah,
your dad managed che cheese. Have you ever managed che cheese? No?
I've never even busted tables with chee cheese. You never
bust che cheese. No, I've never busted the chee cheese before.

(49:20):
That is correct. Now, if I if I would have
stayed with my dad and he read, you've been served
chee cheese. If if I would have stayed with my
dad and grew up with him, he probably would have
got me some che cheese. Hmmm. Seven one three two
one two five seven ninety seven one three two one
two five seven hoey, let's say farewell to Ryan Presley.

(49:41):
His uh wife and I follow each other on Twitter.
So she's a good cat. What her name is? Cat? Actually?

Speaker 6 (49:48):
Did you what you spelled their name wrong? Did you
correct your tweet?

Speaker 2 (49:51):
No? I didn't. I was. I had a few beverages.

Speaker 6 (49:55):
Like you know, I really try to take it easy
on you, Matt, I really did shouldn't you should ripped
the crap out? I was like, I'm just letting that
one fly by the way.

Speaker 2 (50:03):
It's I mean, how many differents gonna spell press? There's
like ten different ways.

Speaker 6 (50:07):
It's literally in her tweet that you could tweeted because
she was right there.

Speaker 2 (50:11):
She knew that I was at a bar. So maybe
she didn't know, but clearly, yeah.

Speaker 6 (50:20):
I guess I could have texted you. I didn't want
to call you out on Twitter. Oh, Like I said,
I try to take you out, Try to take it
easy on your.

Speaker 2 (50:25):
Matt please, no, no, no, if you give it, you
must take it. So I would have had zero problem
with that. But yeah, I misspelled it. And I also
did a you're a wyo you are and why you
are in it? But again, I had a few beverages.
It was at a Boston Puppet Vika Crans or what. No, No,
I had some pints. Really, oh way, I I have
ripped on this city a lot over the years. It

(50:48):
more than I do. I like it more now why
I just think it's a it's a. It's a. It's
really good. It's got a lot of culture to it.
It's got a lot of pizazz. The bars are good,
the restaurants are good, the food is amazing. They're die
hard sports fans of all their teams. Now they're a
little rude, but other than that they're fine. I mean,

(51:11):
the gardens, the garden. Fenway Park is a is a museum,
the patriots of thought. Fway was that somebody else. I
don't like Fenway, but I mean, you have to still
respect that. It's in a neighborhood. It's they jammed thirty
four thousand people in the stadium that probably only should
see about twenty three. You know, there's but yeah, it's
I have to respect awesome sports towns and say, whatcho
all about New York and Boston. They are die hard

(51:33):
sports cities. Yes they are so, and they have a
palatial casino. It took me for some money less, but
that's fine. There here nor there. That's okay. And I
Bowly had an interesting Uber driver yesterday too. Explain I
left the casino. It was probably thirty three degrees. No way,

(51:54):
it was even forty. Okay, scarf what would you normally
wear when it's thirty three degrees? Coat and a scarf? Yeah,
long pants, yes, mittens, perhaps even if you were perhaps
maybe ear muffs. This woman that picked me up yesterday
was in really short shorts, okay, And it was just

(52:18):
odd that somebody at thirty three degree weather would be
wearing like shirts you'd wear to a workout.

Speaker 6 (52:24):
Is she a Canadian? Maybe she's from Tibet.

Speaker 2 (52:27):
No, she didn't speak a link of English, okay, so
she could have been from Tibet. No, she listened to
his she was listened to Latina Roe. Oh okay, let's see.

Speaker 6 (52:35):
Well, I don't know if there's a Spanish to be
north of the fortieth parallel.

Speaker 2 (52:42):
Um, hmmm. She might have been listening to satellite radio. I'm
right now, I'm vexed on that one. But there was
not a single one.

Speaker 10 (52:47):
No.

Speaker 6 (52:47):
No, she could be from the bottom tip of Argentina.

Speaker 2 (52:51):
Guess that's true. I mean, I don't remember how.

Speaker 15 (52:53):
She was a Chilean, but I uh, the the uh
the bellman at the hotel were kind of being rude
about the uber cars coming in to pick up people up,
and I said to her, I don't.

Speaker 2 (53:04):
Know, you know, they were just it's a small driveway,
so I think they were just kind of just trying
to get You're trying to shut their bomb asses up
traffic flow, and I said, say, do you know who
I am?

Speaker 10 (53:11):
Well?

Speaker 2 (53:11):
I said that to the woman. I said, hey, is
everything okay? Because I know that guy was kind of
rude and she had no idea what I was saying.
Oh okay, Maybe she was intentionally like faking so she
could avoid conversations. Yeah, She's like, I don't want to
talk to this, But you don't mean I'm not a
talker in the car anyway.

Speaker 6 (53:26):
Oh please, You're a liar. You say you're not and
then you.

Speaker 2 (53:29):
Do mmmmmmm, Matt, No. I put my head back, close
my eyes, nice rest.

Speaker 6 (53:38):
I know I'm a talker in the uber and I
hate when the drivers are super talkative or somebody you're
with is chatty with a chatty driver.

Speaker 2 (53:46):
And I was like, I just want to jump out
of this car. I was dreaming of twenty ones and
I wound up getting fourteen's. All day long against the
camp we were talking about Blackjack. The people at iHeartRadio
would like to know Matt Thomas is talking about the
card game Blackjack. Yeah for sure. All right, Uh up, next,

(54:07):
we're being shamed by a media member if we don't
love the Kansas City Philadelphia of Super Bowl coming up?
Really who you'll find out next? Eleven fourteen of The
Matt Thomas Show with Ross seven one three two one
two five, seven ninety If you want to chime in,
Presley memories, Bregman news, Rockets, Cougars, super Bowl, and shame

(54:28):
shame shame from an NFL reporter or at least an analyst.
Eleven fourteen on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (54:37):
The Matt Tamas Show with Ross continues. So on Sports
Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (54:46):
All right, we hear the Matt Thomas Show. Do not
preach to you. We give opinions. We like for you
to have opinions of your own. Doesn't necessarily mean you
have to agree with us, but we hope that in
a respectful way, whether it's talking to us through Twitter,
which is really the anti respectful way to speak to people,
or the phones at seven one three two one two
five seven ninety seven one three two one two five

(55:09):
seven ninty. I opened up the radio program today with
the fact that while I think Kansas City and Philadelphia
probably gonna give us a very good game, I wouldn't
presume so they are the two best teams they have
beaten quality opponents. My excitement level for it is, man,
because I've been there and done that when watching these games,
and frankly, a lot of it to me was I

(55:30):
wanted to see some new teams and two players that
had kind of been wearing it out in terms of
not getting over the hump. And those two players were
Lamar Jackson of Baltimore and Josh Allen of Buffalo. So
needless to say, I'm not stoked now Sunday at five
thirty a week, two weeks from yesterday, I'll be ready

(55:50):
to go watch the game with the family, eat some
chicken wings, okay, so whatever, and enjoy myself with friends
and family. But I'm not fired up for it now. Meanwhile,
Nate Burlson of CBS on the NFL postgame show yesterday,
oh No, wanted us to tell wanted you to hear
this from him.

Speaker 16 (56:12):
Say this to the fan bases out there. If you're
not a Chiefs fan, that's okay, but resist.

Speaker 2 (56:18):
The urge to fall for the narrative that we're tired.

Speaker 16 (56:20):
Of seeing them win, that we might be fatigued of
watching Kse go to the Super Bowl over and over again.
You are witnessing greatness and just be happy that you
are alive to be.

Speaker 2 (56:30):
Be there to see it. Excuse me, First of all,
you can't tell me how to fan. Okay, sorry, Nate Nate.
You do an excellent you are an excellent wide receiver
in the NFL. You're very good on that CBS morning
show that no one watches. But thirdly, don't tell me
how to fan. And fourth you ruin the Hollywood squares.

(56:54):
Nate's making a lot of great points.

Speaker 6 (56:56):
Get him, Nate, Nate and the see you national media
pundits do not tell anybody how to fan.

Speaker 2 (57:06):
If they if they're fatigued.

Speaker 6 (57:08):
Ross, we were fatigued about the Patriots going year after.

Speaker 2 (57:10):
Year after year, Yes we were, so. Guess what fatigue
is a part of sports? It just is.

Speaker 6 (57:16):
Do you not think America is fatigued by the Astros?
Of course they are, I get it. Well, they still
put them on Thursdays at two thirty, So I don't know. Yikes,
I just don't you know. I don't want you to
tell me what I can and cannot have emotion wise. Whoa, whoa, mister,

(57:37):
stop the wave? You tell people to have fan on.

Speaker 2 (57:39):
Yes, that's a stupid act that interferes with the game itself.

Speaker 6 (57:44):
That's stupid. If you like the way you're I'm gonna
tell you how to fan on that. That's a stupid
assway to fan.

Speaker 2 (57:50):
You know what that means. You're wearing George, you got
long hair. You have no idea who you're like Darlene
of the Astros. You have like you only know three players. No,
that's different.

Speaker 6 (58:02):
I had not heard that. Nate Burleson. Bye, That's pretty
much what I was trying to say in the first Like,
I'm not working on Wednesday because I'm traveling with the team.
I'm gonna tell you this right now, Nate. First of all,
you ruin my Hollywood Squares two. Putting Drew Barrymore in
the center square is ridiculous.

Speaker 2 (58:22):
Is it her production company or something? It's hers, Yeah,
she's producer.

Speaker 6 (58:26):
That's why she's there. That's the only way it makes sense.

Speaker 2 (58:28):
I would dig Peter Marshall or the grave right now
to host the Hollywood Squers. You do a better job
than Nate Burleson.

Speaker 6 (58:33):
Well, you'd rather have a rotting corpse there, An inanimate
ronning corpse is better than Nate Burleson.

Speaker 2 (58:39):
That's kind of harsh man. You know what, that's maybe
a little harsh. Give me John Davidson an eighty five
years old or Tom Berger on Harverhold he is, what's
Tom Berger on up to these days? Not he's obviously
pissed off. He's not hosting the Hollywood Squares, he's not
doing America's Funniest videos anymore. No, he's probably retired. I
mean he's got to be. Probably Bern's got to be.
He's not doing Dancing with the Stars anymore. So he's

(59:00):
he's like, oh, for these days, he is sixty nine
years old. They should be retired. Play that Burlson bite again.
I want y'all to hear this and how Nate's telling
you what you should be doing about the Chiefs and
how you should feel about them.

Speaker 16 (59:15):
Say this to the fan bases out there. If you're
not a Chiefs fan, that's okay, but resist the urge
to fall for the narrative that we're tired of seeing
them win, that we might be fatigued of watching Case
go to the Super Bowl over and over again. You
are witnessing greatness and just be happy that you are
alive to be be there to see it.

Speaker 5 (59:35):
I'm so happy I'm alive to see him the Chiefs.

Speaker 6 (59:39):
Get me a break, going for three stops off three owens.

Speaker 2 (59:45):
Be happy that you're alive. Be able that you have
your eyesight, that you can watch Pat Bobs.

Speaker 6 (59:52):
Oh, something that's never been done before. Andy Reid going
for his fourth Super Bowl, trying to summon himself.

Speaker 2 (59:59):
Oh, he's already. Give me all time, don't give me
two hours, trying to get over the hump? Can't?

Speaker 6 (01:00:07):
Can Travis Kelsey get there one last time even though
his legs have failed him? Xavier Worthy, longhorned legend.

Speaker 2 (01:00:15):
Be happy that you're alive to see some only just
something Jeff Passett would say, give me a break. Be
happy that you're alive to see.

Speaker 6 (01:00:22):
Be happy that you're alive to see the Dodgers spend
all this money.

Speaker 2 (01:00:25):
Yeah, why don't you be happy that you would? Drew
Barrymore know each other very well, so you get to
ruin the game show of the last sixty years. You're
starting rumors, Matt, No, but I mean, seriously, if you're
Drew Barrymore and you're you have all these celebrity friends,
you're thinking, I need a definitive host of the Hollywood Squares.

(01:00:47):
Nlson sounds about right and if you think I'm better,
damn skippy, I am. You're very bitter. I would be
significantly more apt to host the Hollywood Squares than drowp
than Nate Burlson would be. First thing I does. I
get Drew Berry maher of the Center Square. She's like
lower middle if anything, Thank god that show's getting universally panned.

(01:01:13):
You're really broken up about this Hollywood Square.

Speaker 6 (01:01:15):
I just no, But I'm just look, I'm gonna enjoy
the game in two weeks. I can separate the game
from the hype of the game, and there'll be zero
hype on this show. Let you just want to just
get into go mine kidd read for the big Please.
We were tired of the Yankees domination. We were tired
of the Celtics, we were tired of the Patriots. That's

(01:01:36):
what we do as Americans and as sports fans.

Speaker 2 (01:01:39):
We like variety. We're not big fans of dynasties. I
don't know.

Speaker 6 (01:01:44):
It just seems like dynasties build. They do kind of
build interest in the sport.

Speaker 2 (01:01:50):
To me, oh please, if we had you're telling me
that if the if the Baltimore Ravens were in the
Super Bowl, they would be the be a little interest
in this. Kidding me Arte, first chance, there's there is
of all the events in the world of sports that
don't need energy to get people excited about. It's a
freaking super Bowl. Everybody their mother is gonna watch it.

(01:02:11):
Our favorite Kender Klabar is gonna be a halftime that
in itself was worthy of watching.

Speaker 6 (01:02:14):
That's true, actually, but don't give.

Speaker 2 (01:02:17):
Me the well interest will be heightened because of the
three people. First of all, he didn't say that the
refere well whatever people are saying that. First of all,
people think that the Chiefs have the referees in their
back pocket. I mean, and I'm not going to buy
into that narrative. I'm just not. They're not gonna go
find a middle market team to go. They deserve all
the breaks. If that was the case, the Rams and

(01:02:39):
the Giants and the Jets would get all the breaks.
That is correct, I mean, come on.

Speaker 6 (01:02:43):
Thirty one owners aren't allowing their the Hunt family to
rig the NFL for themselves.

Speaker 2 (01:02:48):
By the way, where was the Hunt daughter last night?
She wasn't up on stage, was she? I don't know, Matt,
Why are you worried about her? I'm not worried about them.
It seems right, you are not worry about well, maybe
she's not feeling well, maybe she wasn't up there, but
mom was. Clark was, Yeah, Clark, I'm so hundred to

(01:03:09):
have this. I've done so much to help this team. No,
you're lucky. You know what a club again, just like
with another owners in the NFL, what is it twenty
something of the teams are owned by they were inherited
her kids. Yeah, and Clark's like, damn, I got a
hot wife, I own an NFL team. I'm a billionaire.

(01:03:30):
Life is good. And by the way, I got something
for you for the par Kansas City crowd. Andy Reid
might be just as good as Bill Belichick. Rossy, I
think that's totally arguable. Bill Belichick won in one place
with one quarterback, although there was the Matt Castle season
that they were very good. He did win ten games

(01:03:51):
with the Mac Jones. Yep.

Speaker 6 (01:03:53):
Andy Reid has a better now. Andy Reid's coaching tree
hasn't shaken out as good as it was a few
years ago, but he still has a better coaching tree.
If he wins this year, there'll be four Super Bowls
to six, and he took another team and a whole
different organization with a whole different quarterback to a super
Bowl with Donovan McNabb and the Eagles.

Speaker 2 (01:04:16):
It's very arguable to me. I'm glad. I feel better now.
All right, we're gonna talk to Gary and to John,
and then after that we're gonna play to tell the truth.
We may push to tell the truth back sing, but
I got some good wins this week. ROSSI, I've got
four takes. You're going to believe three of them. One
of them are not going to believe. Do you comprehend? Okay, wait,

(01:04:37):
let me write this down. You're gonna believe one. No,
you're gonna believe three. You're gonna believe three. How many
do I believe? You are? You are gonna believe three.
I'm gonna believe three, and one of them is gonna
be not what I believe? Okay, one is a lie? Correct? Okay?
Up next we'll have that plus phone calls Gary, John
recipe seven one three two one two five seven ninety

(01:05:00):
and yeah, now you're google searching. She's the owner of research,
the daughter of the chief's owner.

Speaker 6 (01:05:06):
What's his name, mister Hunt? And his dad was Lamar
not Lamar Mike Mike, Okay, no.

Speaker 2 (01:05:13):
No, no, no, no, no, no no, you almost got me. You
almost got me, I said, almost Clark Clark Clark, huh,
don't do that. That's terrible.

Speaker 6 (01:05:28):
Oh man, I was so close.

Speaker 2 (01:05:30):
Don't do that. So close, and I would have you
would have called me because I'm look, I am preparing
for a Rockets game, trying to engage the people of Houston.
I don't need a low hanging attempt at at lowbrow
comedy from you.

Speaker 6 (01:05:44):
The game isn't for seven hours.

Speaker 2 (01:05:48):
I'm so prepping like a mother because I'm a preparer.

Speaker 6 (01:05:51):
You're not gonna be preparing the whole seven hours. You're
probably just prepping for a mid afternoon nap.

Speaker 2 (01:05:56):
Not really. Our bust leaves like less than two hours
after our show's over. Okay, God, seriously, you hear how
embarrassing Ross is trying to get me to say an
and he's it's probably gonna ultimately happen. That was great,
That was fantastic. It wasn't fantastic. It was embarrassing for you.

(01:06:16):
I feel shame for your career. Gary in Spring at
eleven thirty four on seven ninety Gary, good morning to.

Speaker 13 (01:06:23):
You, Hey, Good morning guys, Matt Ross. Uh I was
calling about two things. One for the Rockets, Man, I
just the rock They are so good. It's unbelievable, how
how fast they got so good. They they've got it all.
They've got offense, they've got defense, they've got a great coach,

(01:06:43):
great players, and they're very they're becoming very intimidating. They're
very forceful with their game. So they're just and they're
so fast and jumped so high.

Speaker 10 (01:06:53):
They just got it all. Man, it's so exciting to
watch them.

Speaker 13 (01:06:57):
And uh so, I'm really glad that they're they're playing
and doing so well because no Texans, no Astro. So
uh but I wanted to come in on that, but
you were talking earlier about here, you're gonna watch the
super Bowl, and I'm not gonna watch the super Bowl
a couple of reasons.

Speaker 10 (01:07:12):
One is there's no Houston on the helmet or the jersey.

Speaker 13 (01:07:15):
I'm a Homer and the only reason i'd watch it
this time is for commercials.

Speaker 10 (01:07:20):
But if you go to a party, you can't hear
the commercials anyway.

Speaker 13 (01:07:23):
So I've got my DVR set for I'm gonna watch
Leave It to Beaver. I'm gonna watch Andy Griffith. I'm
gonna watch Wagon Train, and I forget the other show.
I'm gonna watch What a Rifle Man. I'm gonna watch
that and then I'm gonna go to bed. So that's
my plans for the super Bowl night. But man, I

(01:07:43):
love the Rockets. They are so good and and you
do a great game of a great job calling them too, Matt.

Speaker 2 (01:07:48):
But thank you very anyway.

Speaker 10 (01:07:49):
So that's my super Bowl plans.

Speaker 2 (01:07:52):
You know what, I'm in this fancy hotel that you
know there are like fifty thousand channels of like nineteen
fifties TV shows? Did you know that? I didn't know that,
Like there's like me TV, and there's there is a
channel on my TV here in the hotel that's got
nothing but Saraatt Live reruns. Hmm yeah. I mean I

(01:08:16):
guess it's mostly older people that are watching a bunch
of TV, right, Yeah, But I mean you could watch
gun Smoke, Bonanza, My Three Sons, Leave It to Beaver, Mission,
Impossible to TV SYMT.

Speaker 6 (01:08:31):
What was your favorite nineteen sixties Western television show?

Speaker 2 (01:08:36):
Ramote, What Happened to Chuck on Happy Days? Do you
remember Pinky Tuscadero?

Speaker 6 (01:08:44):
Ramone The Andy Griffiths Show, You ever whistled that song?
Just while you're hanging around by yourself?

Speaker 2 (01:08:52):
Remote? Did did and be really hate Bernie? That's over
my head? What's that from Andy Griffith? Apparently Amby had
a lot of problems with people on the cast.

Speaker 6 (01:09:06):
Did you prefer the Riffleman or Gunslinger?

Speaker 2 (01:09:10):
Gun Smoke? The Gunslinger Show? Gunslinger was a show too,
was it really? Yeah, don't be trying to correct me.
You and Tom starring who I don't know. I think
you're making it. You want to bet me? No, let
me see Glenn Singer's show.

Speaker 6 (01:09:27):
A Fast Gun Takes undercover assignments in post civilware of
New Mexico. CBS remote Tony Young is starring Tony Young.

Speaker 2 (01:09:37):
Ramo, what's your favorite CSI?

Speaker 6 (01:09:40):
Now they have an FBI CIA. Its very confusing.

Speaker 2 (01:09:44):
What no? I if? If Gary's doing that, he's gonna
make a minority. I mean, look, I'm not asking you
all to take notes during the super Bowl. I'm not
asking you to go watch endless super Bowl coverage from
New Orleans. But I mean we're gonna be five forty
or whatever it is. We're gonna be watching two things

(01:10:04):
we can watch. We're gonna watch. We're gonna look for
the national anthem, how it's performed, how the game's going, Oh,
who's singing the nationaland do we know?

Speaker 10 (01:10:10):
Ye?

Speaker 2 (01:10:11):
I don't know. Maybe it's math out there. And then
we're gonna know. And then we're gonna look at Twitter
at halftime and half America's gonna Hatekendrick Lamarr and Half's
gonna say that was the best performance they've ever seen
in their life, because that's how it works with the
most halftime acts. And we'll see how it goes. Oh,
I know this, these are guarantees. I guarantee you could
you put Kendrick lamar In on your Twitter on the

(01:10:32):
search and you will see a plethora of opposing opinion.
It will not be universally loved.

Speaker 6 (01:10:38):
Yeah, he is, I believe the first No, well there
was a U didn't the Snoop Dogg in them do it.
I think he's the first rapper to do it by himself.

Speaker 2 (01:10:47):
He's but he's he just announced he's having somebody with
him though.

Speaker 6 (01:10:50):
Oh yeah, that's Sissa who Sisa? Sissa what Sissy?

Speaker 2 (01:10:56):
Who? Hey mean there's a personal live named Sizza. Yeah?
S izz A, no z a, where's the eye? Sissa?

Speaker 6 (01:11:05):
No, it's just Scissa, kind of like the excuse me
in the Ghost Face Killer.

Speaker 2 (01:11:11):
All right, John and Neville eleven thirty nine on seven
ninety John, Good.

Speaker 12 (01:11:16):
Morning, Jesus, good of these nuts.

Speaker 2 (01:11:20):
Good lowel.

Speaker 12 (01:11:22):
Hey, you know, Matt, I think what you're saying on
this dynasty thing and people hating dynasties, it's it's so
much of It's not the dynasty. It's the always in
the face. It's always that's all they talk about. It's always.

(01:11:42):
Mainly it's the cheating.

Speaker 2 (01:11:48):
I mean the cheeks.

Speaker 12 (01:11:51):
I mean, come on, we all know that was the
first down last night. I mean, Ray Charles could have
seen that. You know, with the Patriots, everybody hating on
the Patriots. It was the smugness and the way Belichick,
you know, reacting to the media and the flake gate
and spygate and blah blah gates.

Speaker 2 (01:12:13):
But here's the thing.

Speaker 6 (01:12:14):
I but John, it's it's not cheating.

Speaker 2 (01:12:19):
They're not they're not doing things to circumvent the system.
They're not trying to deflate the football. They're not trying
to push the ball two yards ahead of where it
was placed.

Speaker 6 (01:12:27):
There's John, they're not getting they're not cheating, they're getting
benefit of the doubt. Calls to an extreme, says most
people were in the NFL now Cheeves fans will have
to disagree, but they're not cheating the sport.

Speaker 2 (01:12:42):
They're just taking advantage.

Speaker 12 (01:12:46):
I do say Mahomes tries to get personal fouls called
against defenses when he slows up all the time and
takes a late slide, or just as he did against
not not not last night, but the weekend before against Houston,

(01:13:06):
with trying to get him when he was going out
of bounds. I mean, that's taken advantage of I'm sorry.
And I think Andy Reid is one of the the greatest, not.

Speaker 2 (01:13:17):
The goat, but he's been.

Speaker 12 (01:13:20):
He's right there, he's right there under he's a great,
great goat. But I think it's just, you know, it's
the arrogance, it's the smugness, it's the always in the
face with the Betty Boo, Taylor Swift junk. It's just
you know, everybody, I think, except for Case fans, they're

(01:13:43):
tired of it.

Speaker 2 (01:13:44):
Everybody's tired of it. Well here's the thing, John, thank
you for the phone call. I will say this anytime
you are a part of a dynasty, you're going to
get more media attention because you are on television more,
you are the premiere game, you are going to get
more interviews. Because that's what I mean. If you were
a sports or if you're a sports media group, why

(01:14:04):
would you spend a lot of time detailing what's going
on in Seattle or Carolina. When you've got Kansas City,
you you pay attention to what's good now. I don't think.
I don't think Mahomes is smug. I don't. I look again,
I'm not thrilled about Kansas City being this thing again.
But I'm not. I'm not.

Speaker 6 (01:14:25):
I don't want to read I don't want to recreate
a news headlines that aren't there.

Speaker 2 (01:14:30):
I meant to be smug. Mahomes would have been like, man,
what told you? Having me back? You didn't listen to us.

Speaker 6 (01:14:37):
And by the way, Travis Kelsey and a microphone is
a meat head. I mean that that's not being saying.
That's just who he is. He's just he's just a
meat heead he only had two catches? Was he even
doing up there?

Speaker 2 (01:14:47):
Yeah? Well it's because again they know that guess who
I mean? Travis Swift is gonna ge is gonna get
some attention.

Speaker 6 (01:14:54):
You should have got a longhorned legend Xavier Worthy up there.

Speaker 2 (01:14:57):
Yeah, man, he can fly, can he not? His zero
sixties and very fast? And you remember who traded down
to allow the Chiefs to pick him? Correct? Would it
rhyme with the Ruffalo rills? It would? He knew that.
By the way, speaking of that real quick, here is
DeAndre Hopkins.

Speaker 6 (01:15:15):
He's going to the Super Bowl. You know what, I
found a reason to hate the Chiefs.

Speaker 2 (01:15:18):
I figured you would. Here is DeAndre Hopkins on the
field talking about the opportunity to go play in his
first Super Sunday. You know, man, I've been doubted. A
lot of people wrote me off, you know, Uh, twelve
years in the league. Man, you know I got traded.

Speaker 17 (01:15:34):
For some pennies in my prom.

Speaker 8 (01:15:36):
So you know, I don't want to thank the thank
the organizations that gave me a son, you know.

Speaker 2 (01:15:41):
And I can still go out here make plays when
I need.

Speaker 3 (01:15:44):
To, Joe double teams and uh, you know played me
foot full ball.

Speaker 2 (01:15:49):
Pennies in the prom, pennies in his prime, yes, pennies
in his prime, or pennies are the Prom I thought
he said, what makes more sense to you? Matt, I
don't know, but it sounds like pennies are the prom
He says pennies. He's yeah, pennies in his prime. Okay.
I mean he's from South Carolina. You know that's true.
You know he wasn't referring to other trades. He was

(01:16:10):
referring to one in Houston. That's correct, it was pennies.
You and I were going what for thirty straight seconds?
Well we'll never forget that moment, all right. To tell
the truth is up next. This is where I've got Remember, Ross,
I have four.

Speaker 6 (01:16:24):
Takes, Okay, three of them I believe.

Speaker 2 (01:16:27):
I believe four takes, Okay, one I don't got you.
So tell the truth is up next seven one three
two one two five seven ninety seven one three, two,
one two five seven ninety Back with more the Matt
Thomas Old Ross here on seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (01:16:43):
More Matt Thomas Show with Ross now Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 17 (01:16:59):
You know, oh but Ross, I do.

Speaker 2 (01:17:11):
I do know how to tell the truth, and I'm
ready to tell you the truth right now. By Ross.
I have four takes? How many of them are gonna believe? You?
You believe three of them.

Speaker 6 (01:17:26):
Correct, Connor, I have four sports takes, which one?

Speaker 2 (01:17:30):
How many of them do I do not believe? You
do not believe one of them? There you go, all right,
we're two for two. Here we go, deep breath. Number One,
if I were the Texans, I would give Chip Kelly
a blank check. Come be the offensive coordinator, so I

(01:17:50):
gonna handle the offense.

Speaker 6 (01:17:51):
I thought you were gonna say I would petition to
go to the NFC.

Speaker 2 (01:17:54):
No, no, man, it's actually a bad idea. But no,
that's how it is. Number One, I would give Chip
Kelly a blank check. Number two. Let's not fool around here.

Speaker 6 (01:18:06):
The only reason why Bregman has not picked up this
contract at.

Speaker 2 (01:18:11):
Six one fifty six is because he wants there's a
certain dollar value. He wants two hundred. He's not gonna
get it. He wants more than six years. He's not
gonna get that from otherware anywhere else. So let's do this.

Speaker 6 (01:18:25):
Let's give him the seven years, get him to one
seventy five. Those are two magical numbers.

Speaker 2 (01:18:31):
In Call to day. Bregman is not gonna get the
A two hundred or the seven two hundred that he
was looking for. Let he's he's obviously kicking the tires
on it. Josel Tub wants him back, he wants to
play in left field, or is gonna he is willing
to do that. Let's just do it seven one seventy
five and call it a day to make sure that
Bregman doesn't wear another uniform in his major league career

(01:18:54):
besides the Astros. Number three. If I'm the Texans and
I'm going to start bringing up stadium talk soon, may
not be tomorrow, may not be next month, but it'll
be probably the next eighteen months, I would try to
push to move to a new facility to West Houston,

(01:19:20):
somewhere in the town and country area, somewhere along the
same Houston Tollway. I wouldn't go as far as Katie,
but there's got to be some land out there, and
I would build my monstrosity of a sports facility. I'd
put up night at restaurants and bars and all that
kind of stuff, and.

Speaker 6 (01:19:39):
Make it a West Houston community. I would suggest out
of NRG, out of.

Speaker 2 (01:19:45):
That area whatever they're calling it, and I would bring
the Texans west to build their own little complex. And
Number four, if.

Speaker 6 (01:19:56):
De Rod Johnson leaves or is promoted to the the
offensive coordinator position for the Texans. There is a natural
fix to replace him as the quarterbacks coach and that
coach and that person would be case Keenu. Case Keenum
should be on the Texan staff with this change. If

(01:20:18):
Derod Johnson does not stay at quarterback coach and those
are my four takes, which one of the four do
I not believe or recap again?

Speaker 2 (01:20:27):
One, I would give Chip Kelly a blank check. Two,
I'd bump the Bregman deal to seven one seventy five
and call it a day. Three If I were the Texans,
I would invest or at least look to go West Houston, Cyrus,
cy Fair, whatever, or Four. If Derod Johnson leaves or
it becomes the new OC, the natural fit at quarterback

(01:20:49):
coach would be case Keenum. Which are the four? Am
I not telling the truth?

Speaker 6 (01:20:58):
Wow, Connor, these are some bad takes he believes Three
of these.

Speaker 18 (01:21:04):
Well, we've we've run into the fact that he's believed
bad takes before, so that can't.

Speaker 2 (01:21:10):
Hey, I'm in the room, maybe a long way from you, guys,
but I'm in the room. That can't be the deciding fact.
As he doesn't believe it. I'm gonna go with Okay,
three I think is easy to throw out. I think
Matt does believe that. He's talked about it before.

Speaker 18 (01:21:23):
I agree. I think four is another throw away for me.
I think he believes really.

Speaker 6 (01:21:28):
Case Keenum quarterbacks coach.

Speaker 2 (01:21:30):
Would be a natural fit and have a good relationship.
That's not that crazy. It's not that crazy. You're right
between one and two. For me, I'm gonna go with two.
I was gonna go too as well. We can go
with the same one.

Speaker 18 (01:21:44):
No, I'm gonna go I don't think Matt believes that
the Texans are I.

Speaker 6 (01:21:49):
Don't know why he would believe on chip Kelly. Why
would he want to believe they would go all in
and should go all in on chip Kelly.

Speaker 2 (01:21:55):
Yeah, I don't think he can give him quote a
blank check. I guess from the standpoint of a good
reason would be because you you would figure Chip Kelly's
not getting hired away at any point. I'm gonna go
with two. Still, I'll go with one, all right. If

(01:22:17):
I'm the Texans, I absolutely think about moving outside of
NRG area because, first of all, let me get let
me walk you through this. Downtown is not going to
be any more of a hot spot anymore. So, first
of all, there's nowhere to go anywhere else in downtown.
There's no plot of land just sitting around. You might
as well take your chances on the most heavily populated

(01:22:40):
growth area of Houston. And I would say that is
going to be west of downtown, whatever that may be.
So I believe that for sure, what do they do
it or not is two different animals. But I'm telling
you where they are right now, ain't it? And downtown
ain't it? So we're gonna what's the most affluent suburb area?
Probably west of the toll Way. Never two. I absolutely

(01:23:03):
believe that case Keenan would be a good quarterbacks coach.
I think he's going to be a coach at some
point in his career.

Speaker 6 (01:23:09):
He might as well work your way from the quote
unquote bottom to the top.

Speaker 2 (01:23:12):
He's been the NFL a long time.

Speaker 6 (01:23:14):
He's been a de facto coach in the field as
a backup for CJ.

Speaker 2 (01:23:18):
Obviously the relationship is strong between those two guys. I
think case Keenham should be an offensive should be a
quarterbacks coach with the Texans if that spot has opened
up and the last one, which one of the two
I believe. I believe you absolutely should give Chip Kelly
a blank check. He thought he will be the hottest commodity.
He took helped Ohio state winternational championship. He's got NFL experience.

(01:23:41):
He is a guy that you know doesn't will not
be a threat to Dimico Ryans Demiko knows chipco The
relationship would be amazing there. And I think he's a
very good offensive mind. Is he a good head coach
at the NFL level? Eh? As an offensive coordinator, very
very successful. So the only one I don't believe is
that I wouldn't get Breakman seven years and one to

(01:24:01):
seventy five.

Speaker 6 (01:24:03):
And that is, to tell the truth, that would lose
him a bet to me. Connor, come on, you know
he's not gonna believe that I knew I news segment.
You're such a martyr, you you Connor, you deserve a
big fat l on that bedtruistic.

Speaker 2 (01:24:25):
We appreciate you. Oh taking one for the team. Yeah,
you gotta build the drama. All right, let's celebrate. Can
we talk about the Jim Kelly thing? Yeah? Go ahead,
and no, I mean you know down the road here, Oh,
after the News at noon. How about that?

Speaker 6 (01:24:40):
Oh, yes, the News at noon.

Speaker 2 (01:24:42):
Well, don't worry, We're gonna play some highlights of an
amazing AFC Championship game, an NFC Championship game in a moment.
So we got that too. You got time to kill? Yes,
seven one, three, two two five seven ninety The News
at noon, A little musical tribute to the two teams
playing on Super Sunday. After we send it back to
Ross R. Houston Studios.

Speaker 6 (01:25:01):
Yes, you say it back to me to help the
people out. Look, January's almost over.

Speaker 2 (01:25:05):
You look up.

Speaker 6 (01:25:06):

Speaker 2 (01:25:55):
Catches it out. The Parkley takes off to the outside.

Speaker 3 (01:25:58):
He's at the fifty, he's at the forty, he's at
the thirty.

Speaker 4 (01:26:02):
He's gone down fifteen ten five touchdown. He sat one
party sixty yards on his opening touch.

Speaker 2 (01:26:12):
The waterback Frau. He's at the five. He is and
for the touchdown.

Speaker 4 (01:26:17):
Jalen hurts, I guess his legs all right?

Speaker 3 (01:26:20):
Jalen does a little dance on the clock. The flares
fly skyward at the Eagles not just beach on annihilate
the Washington Commanders. Fifty five to twenty three.

Speaker 2 (01:26:35):
What a day? Wanna win? What a crown? What a
team won a season? But it's not over yet.

Speaker 5 (01:26:42):
Off the side, dream hunt at to ten anglic of
five headiots side touchdown, channsas City. It's a ninety yard
drive to start the AFC Championship games.

Speaker 2 (01:26:55):
Now Foks keeps it on an rto and the five
is a lead line.

Speaker 5 (01:26:58):
He goes into the end on a new side touchdown
out Caner City.

Speaker 2 (01:27:04):
Patrick mahomes a.

Speaker 5 (01:27:06):
Sixteen yard run, his second rushing touchdown of the game.

Speaker 2 (01:27:12):
She's gonna throw it. They throw the left left time.

Speaker 5 (01:27:14):
It's some JP run at the thirty first head up
to the sideline.

Speaker 2 (01:27:19):
I love you, samot JP run.

Speaker 5 (01:27:22):
I remember when gret Fich told me they picked him
off at a game of eighteen yards.

Speaker 2 (01:27:27):
I've poured water on my head.

Speaker 17 (01:27:29):
And the cantas today.

Speaker 2 (01:27:30):
Jeez, I'm gonna pull this on.

Speaker 6 (01:27:35):
Was that the announcer saying he poured water on his head? Yes,
it must be an inside joke or something. Yeah, you
could explain.

Speaker 2 (01:27:46):
No, I don't know the inside joke. I don't normally
listen to Chiefs football on the radio. You listen to
Rockets rady. Do you hear any inside jokes on that?

Speaker 6 (01:27:53):
Yeah, there's always a lot of inside jokes, especially when
Adam Clinton's on.

Speaker 2 (01:27:57):
That's true? Or should I pour out myself tonight? I
know what I'm gonna do. If the Rockets beat the Celtics,
I'll pour clam chartle all over my head.

Speaker 6 (01:28:04):
Yeah, extremely hot, piping out best. Okay, you're going with
the whiter the red. Uh, that's red as New York
that this is where we're in New England territory here.

Speaker 2 (01:28:15):
Okay, by the way, do you know what?

Speaker 11 (01:28:16):
It's?

Speaker 2 (01:28:16):
An earthquake about an hour from here? No, what happened?
An earthquake? Okay?

Speaker 6 (01:28:22):
Well, I mean, was it a just a regular was
it the result of something?

Speaker 2 (01:28:25):
I don't I don't know, I just was I turned
them the news on this morning and it said there
was earthquake all throughout New England. And we are in
New England, so that seems rare. What was it? What
was it on the Richter scale? Matt, I don't know? Richter? R?
I c h t E R Richter? Sure? Why not?
All right? Hey it's Matt Ross and uh, I want
to know how fired up you are lunchtimers about the

(01:28:48):
rematch for the second time in three years Kansas City
and Philadelphia. Ross and I do not share the same
sort of pregame buzz for such event. It'll game. I'll
watch because it is Super Bowl Sunday and everybody their
mother watches it. But it is far from me to
be the premier matchup. Now, Ross, you put a pole

(01:29:09):
question up on your Twitter account which I wouldn't normally
look at again sports RV. It's most muted most of
the time. Yes, what did your poll question say at
this point about the matchups? People? It was preferred. Now
I should have done this before the game because now
there's Chiefs Eagles. Everybody started whining and way, two of
the best teams in the NFL playing in the Super Bowl.
Wait but uh yeah, wait two of the if you're

(01:29:32):
if you're in the super Bowl, you are the two
best teams. Yeah, well not necessarily, but go ahead, people,
people get lucky in the super Bowl. It's anfl okay
hashtag Eli Manning. Uh but most of the people wanted
Bills no matter what the most I said, what was
your preferred super Bowl matchup?

Speaker 17 (01:29:49):
People?

Speaker 2 (01:29:49):
Are you? People are liars? Bill's Commanders forty six percent
unless that Niels Nielsen that would have been the lowest
Nielsen rated of the four matchups.

Speaker 13 (01:30:01):
Yea.

Speaker 2 (01:30:02):
Inverse I wanted Bill's Eagles is what I want?

Speaker 6 (01:30:05):
Bill's Eagles was forty three percent, six percent for Chiefs
Eagles and four percent for Chiefs Commanders.

Speaker 2 (01:30:11):
M M, yeah, commanders. I mean, look, Daniels is amazing,
but they don't have a lot of household names. A little
zach Ertz caught like thirty passes yesterday. Their defense sucks.
They're tearing fifty five points in a game. Give me up, Bright, Well,
they turned them, but they fumbled like four times. Okay,
so you're supposed to score twenty eight points off of
every single turnover? My god?

Speaker 6 (01:30:30):
Well their defense, yeah, they well it's it's twofold. Their
defense is horrible. And they turned the ball over the
Eagles four times.

Speaker 2 (01:30:36):
Yeah, is bad. That game. I checked out quick on
that one. I was having. I was having the Boston
uh Sam Adams right that. I was looking for the
Jayden Daniels over rushing, so I stayed with it. Didn't
get there. Okay. Also this is the Barclay over rushing.
Didn't get there by far? He was still filthy or
was he not? Yeah? I know all right. Time now
for the News at noon, Yes, Matthew, it is the

(01:31:02):
News at noon.

Speaker 6 (01:31:03):
We did talk about the Super Bowl, so we'll go
ahead and say we have that covered.

Speaker 2 (01:31:06):
But also over the weekend, you had Ryan Presley traded
to the Chicago Cubs. What does that mean for the
Houston Astros and Alex Bregman, Ken Rosenthal on MLB Network
talking saying he would still bet on Houston.

Speaker 19 (01:31:25):
Their fans won Alex Gregman back, and the Astros are trying.

Speaker 20 (01:31:30):
I don't know how far it's going to get, but
if I had to bet right now, I would bet.

Speaker 19 (01:31:35):
The Astros in this negotiation, even though they've made their offer.

Speaker 20 (01:31:39):
It was six years, one hundred and fifty six million.
Jim Crane offered that to Bregman.

Speaker 19 (01:31:43):
But if they come up a little bit and he
doesn't really have anything that he likes as much, and
I supposedly has long offers along those lines. But again,
it's where do you want to play. And if Alex
Bredman goes back, apparently he played third, they'd moved Paradus
to second, and jose L two they would play left.

Speaker 20 (01:32:00):
That's interesting.

Speaker 19 (01:32:02):
Al Tuvey said today, I will do this for Alex Bregman.

Speaker 20 (01:32:05):
I want Alex Bregman on my team.

Speaker 2 (01:32:08):
And from that.

Speaker 20 (01:32:08):
Perspective, that was I felt a really cool statement. Al
two Bay's days is a great defensive second baseman.

Speaker 19 (01:32:13):
Are long gone, but at the same time position change,
he's a prominent player Hall of Fame track.

Speaker 20 (01:32:20):
I thought that was an impressive state left field, left field.

Speaker 6 (01:32:25):
He would bet on the Astros Ken Rosenthal.

Speaker 2 (01:32:29):
Um. I wouldn't bet on the Astros me either, but.

Speaker 6 (01:32:32):
I would bet on Ken rosenthal Man.

Speaker 2 (01:32:35):
That's a pretty strong statement for Rosenthal to come out
and say that, agreed. That's really weird.

Speaker 6 (01:32:45):
Because again, it's not about it's not about If you
say you're betting on, that means that he must have
somebody on the in the Bregman camp that says he's
really thinking.

Speaker 2 (01:32:53):
About doing this. Yeah, and really thinking and pondering are
two different things. My thought is that Bregman's probably pondering here.

Speaker 6 (01:33:02):
He's he's still crossing, he's still question he's he's in
a quench to find that big deal.

Speaker 2 (01:33:09):
And I don't think that deals out there for him anymore.

Speaker 6 (01:33:11):
And the issue is does he compan does he run
it back with a team that for all intentsive purposes,
he said, bye bye, I see you later, love you Houston, goodbye,
wish you well, we have a farewell. Got him out
of the dugout. Yeah, we're into the dugout.

Speaker 2 (01:33:23):
Remember he tweeted thank you Houston and all that kind
of you don't do that kind of stuff, and like
all of a sudden come back.

Speaker 6 (01:33:30):
Yeah, but that is the perfect opportunity to do that
Wolf of Wall Street meme, I'm not leaving.

Speaker 2 (01:33:35):
I'm not leaving.

Speaker 6 (01:33:37):
He would do that absolutely, and that would be it
would it would That would be the perfect scenario. A
lot of people do that. They're like, oh, I just
resigned with my team, so I'm gonna put out that
I'm not leaving. It's like you're never going anywhere. Bregman
was like ninety nine percent gone, So that would be great.

Speaker 2 (01:33:54):
Yeah, all right, Uh, Presley gone, Bregman's still here. Do
the two things Are they in unison with each other?
I don't think so. Hmmm, because wouldn't you would think
wouldn't you think that the Astros will go over the
luxury again if frequent resigns. I mean, the Murney's already
been spent, right, That's what it seems like. What else

(01:34:14):
you got?

Speaker 6 (01:34:15):
Well, quickly on the Super Bowl we didn't talk about
this angle, Matt. You have the Chiefs opening up as
one and a half point favorites total on this one
forty nine and a half gut reaction.

Speaker 2 (01:34:28):
Give the points and I'll take Kanvas City. That feels
actually kind of low gut reaction is under right, these
two really good defenses forty nine. Well, the reason why
it's probably higher is because the Eagles put up fifty five. Yeah,
I mean, and Mahomes didn't and the Chiefs didn't have
any troubles scoring on the Bills defense. And by the way,
I want to make sure we're clear about this is

(01:34:49):
we have different audience going around, and I know that
there's this easy narrative of the Chiefs get all the
calls and do they are they getting calls? Yeah?

Speaker 9 (01:34:58):
I don't think.

Speaker 2 (01:34:58):
I don't think you have me blind if figure that
out or not blind. But the Bills had multiple chances
ross to stop the Chiefs, every single chance they had
a time they had to stop them, except for that
one sack on that first down play late in the
fourth quarter that forced them to kft the field goal.
Other than that, the Chiefs were a better football team
that took advantage of every little maybe slide extra play

(01:35:21):
and got the first down, completed their first down plays
and Buffalo didn't period. Kamsas City earned that win yesterday.
I agree they weren't gifted the game. They just weren't.
It wasn't not.

Speaker 6 (01:35:31):
Yeah, it's so many different plays go into an NFL
victory and the Chiefs got it done. All right, man,
Let's go and wrap up the news of noon with
talking about your Houston Rockets as you are in Boston.
They have swept the Cleveland Cavaliers. On the season. They
are twelve and four against the teams with the top
ten records in the NBA. Twelve and of four. Your

(01:35:54):
Houston Rockets are for real.

Speaker 2 (01:35:57):
And the last time they really got embarrassed was against
these Boston Celtics in Houston a couple weeks back. So
where Benge has to be on the mind. By the way,
congratulations Jason Tatum thirteen thousand points. He is the seventh
player in NBA history to do it before they ad
to twenty seven.

Speaker 6 (01:36:16):
He's got thirteen thousand points.

Speaker 2 (01:36:18):
Thirteen thousand points. Wow, good for him. I think I'm
on Dallas on Saturday.

Speaker 6 (01:36:25):
I still think of him as this like twenty three
year old out of Duke, Like that's crazy.

Speaker 2 (01:36:31):
Good for him. They're really really good. I think they're
the best team in the East. Their record is second
best in the East. I think they're I haven't seen
them and Cleveland face to face. I think the Celtics
are con significantly.

Speaker 6 (01:36:42):
I would say the favorite finals matchup right now is
Celtics thunder Ah.

Speaker 2 (01:36:47):
But until the Rockets rocked their world and for the
third time in NBA history, Rockets Celtics in the NBA
Finals next on Sports Doc seven ninety. No, come on now,
let me have this this enjoyment. How about the Rockets
in the finals this year and the Cougars in the
final four.

Speaker 6 (01:37:06):
You think I was difficult to live with Celtics in five?

Speaker 2 (01:37:08):
That happens? Oh again, more hate? Why am I hating?
More anti Houston from sports harv See, I'm sorry.

Speaker 6 (01:37:16):
I just have to be realistic with you.

Speaker 2 (01:37:17):
I'm true. You want homerrific takes goo go to another show. No, no, no,
we go to this show. We're pure homersm We just
cussed and discuss all we do all day long.

Speaker 6 (01:37:29):
Okay, and that's your news.

Speaker 2 (01:37:30):
At noon, Matt, thank you very much. All right? Uh
we teased Chip Kelly, and you don't not allow of
grown men cheese tease Chip Kelly. We'll do that next
year twelve fourteen of Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (01:37:45):
Back to Matt, Thomas and Ross via Real Fine one
Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (01:37:56):
Astros remain uncertain about Breckman. They're certain about Ryan Astly
now I remember the Chicago Cubs Rockets are certain that
they are playing excellent basketball, trying for winn every thirty
one to night against the Celtics. Cougars will be on
the road this week at West Virginia for a chance
another quater one win. They'll have Texas Tech this Saturday
at Fortida Center, and the Texans at this point Rosta

(01:38:17):
looking for an offensive coordinator. After we're leaving Bobby Slok
of his responsibilities late last week, And.

Speaker 6 (01:38:31):
Hello, what happened? I just walked in. Sorry, I got
stopped up by a salesperson.

Speaker 2 (01:38:36):
Really trying to sell the show.

Speaker 6 (01:38:37):
Yeah, oh well not you me.

Speaker 2 (01:38:39):
That's fine, I'm okay with that. No, I'm just kidding.

Speaker 6 (01:38:43):
I was actually explaining to this salesperson our new time slot.

Speaker 2 (01:38:47):
Oh no, we have a person in our building that
doesn't know our time slot.

Speaker 6 (01:38:53):
We're all good now. Sorry, I got I went to
get some water and I got held up.

Speaker 2 (01:38:56):
That's my bad. One. You were you asking how have
you been back? We just but I just recapped the
headlines and then I was talking about I gave you
the I through the ball up in the air for
you to hit about the Chip Kelly and I was
just curious what you're thinking. Oh okay, yeah, so so
your thoughts on Chip Kelly and handing one check. Yeah,
I would do it. He's probably on the he's the

(01:39:16):
most I might say he's available, because he's not available.
He's at Ohio State. But he's wild. He recognized as
a great offensive mind. I think the relationship between him
and Demiko, obviously because of coach and former player, Demiko
can just hand the offense to them and know that
he's very confident and with the way Chip calls a game,

(01:39:37):
Chip's got no interest thing in being a head coach
again after leaving UCLA to go take a downgrade to
be OC at Ohio State. I think it's a perfect fit.
I really do.

Speaker 6 (01:39:46):
Yeah, I'm on board with philosophically, going with what you
were talking about because when when the opening happened and
Demiko Ryans was one of the candidates and whoever else
I talked about having basically what kind of the Chiefs
have right now, where you have an innovative offensive mind
and then you have a defensive coordinator who has been

(01:40:08):
fired from a head coaching job and you don't have
to worry about them going away because if you're Demiko, right,
Bobby Slowick, one of two things was gonna happen with
Bobby Slook. Either A he was gonna get hired away
to another team or b he was gonna get let
go like he did. So you're always going if you
hire keep hiring young guys, it's not gonna work out.
You're gonna you're gonna have a scenario where within two

(01:40:30):
to three years every time you're either gonna be firing
them or they're gonna be getting hired away. So, uh, philosophically,
from what you're talking about, Chip Kelly makes the perfect sense.
As you said, he's not gonna get hired away. He's
good at his job. Let Dimiko do his thing with
the defense, let him handle the offense, not necessarily as
like a co head coach type of situation. But Demko

(01:40:50):
doesn't need to be in those meeting rooms. Chip Kelly
knows what he's doing and has been doing it for years,
and you really don't have to worry about him getting
hired away as a head coach. And think about this,
if you bump up Gerrod Johnson to an offensive coordinator,
guess what you're doing. You're giving another, uh a primo
coaching position in your staff to a first time offensive coordinator.

Speaker 2 (01:41:10):
Do you want that? If he Tomiko, I.

Speaker 6 (01:41:11):
Mean, if you interview him and think he's ready and
stuff like that. I mean, he's been in the building,
so I would be okay with it. But again, you're
either a gonna fire Gerrad Johnson or B he's gonna
get hired away.

Speaker 2 (01:41:21):
Right. Well, here's another thing. And look, we tease the
McNair's for a variety of things. The one thing they
do spend do is spend money and if it take,
if you're gonna have to get out the check book
to write it. If Demico goes to Hannah, forget about
cal Cal's playing. He's booking a ship to the super
Bowl to see what kind of shows he can see
in New Orleans.

Speaker 6 (01:41:41):
If you go to Hannah and say, Hannah, this is
the guy that's gonna solidify our offense because guess what,
Chip Kelly is widely regarded.

Speaker 2 (01:41:50):
I mean, look what he did at Ohio State. Look
at the relationship I had with him when I was
a player. Uh, Hannah will do that. This will not
be a the Texans lose because the Texans won't spend.
The Texans will spend on their coaching. And I think
Chip Kelly unless he's just comfortable in Columbus, but I
think there's a way. I think, if I'm Chip, I'm listening,

(01:42:10):
why not why wouldn't you listen?

Speaker 6 (01:42:14):
Yeah, I have to make him an offer. The money's right.

Speaker 2 (01:42:19):
So and that's one thing I do appreciate about the
Texans is that I've never had to them be there,
never been miserly about really anything. They constantly improve their
workout facilities, they constantly improve their locker room. They're always
trying to make things better as a as a warm,
inviting place. I think it helps out with free agency.
Besides the fact that they're obviously paying, they don't save money.

(01:42:40):
They're not at the floor. They're not you know, they're
always right at the tippy toe on the on the
salary cap uh. And so yeah, I mean, if there's
an organization that will do some spending when it comes
to something that you don't have a cap on, why
don't you go get the best offensive coach that may
And again I don't we don't know if he's available
or not. But his name is being banned about with
several other teams around the NFL. Why not go, why

(01:43:01):
not get a guy that would be the opposite of
what you had as an inexperienced offensive coordinator who was
either as you said before, made to be hired or
made to be wishing him the best as he go
gets on their job somewhere else.

Speaker 6 (01:43:13):
Yeah, he's some guy in it his fifties or sixties
who's been a head coach, like the two defensive coordinators
in the Super Bowl, or Vic Fangio and Steve Spagnolo.

Speaker 2 (01:43:21):
Yeah, and neither one of those guys. Uh, they've had
their head coaching up yeas before and it's they They
know what their CHRISHNDO is, they know what their peak is,
and this is where they're very happy. Pus. My guess
is a Chip. I mean, I'm assuming that Chippen Dimico
got along. And why wouldn't Chip want to be, you know,
to have half the responsibility and have a guy that
he that that played for him.

Speaker 6 (01:43:42):
Clearly he doesn't want responsibility. He was the head coach
UCLA said, I'm good.

Speaker 2 (01:43:46):
Yeah, that's exactly right, all right? Seven one three two
one two five seven ninety seven one three two, one, two, five,
seven nine zero. If you're following us on Twitter, you
may do that as well at Sports MPT, at Sports
and at Connor d Govern lots of get to These
are the topics we're throwing out, and I want to

(01:44:07):
get you guys involved in this one. Ross and I
have argued and debated about the excitement level for the
Super Bowl coming up.

Speaker 6 (01:44:17):
He is much more to debate if you're not excited,
You're not excited.

Speaker 2 (01:44:21):
Yeah, but I think my reasons make much more sense
in yours. I have minimal excitement for the Super Bowl. No, man,
I'm gonna watch. It. Doesn't mean I don't appreciate the Chiefs,
but I think we as a sports society in the
last thirty years we have been fatigued by dynasties. Now, Ross,
you and I were not in sports. Hell, you won't
even lying when the Steelers were winning those Super Bowls.

(01:44:45):
As a kid, I don't remember me having much fatigue
about the Niners going to the Super Bowl. Did you
hate the nineties Bulls? Did you hate the eighties Lakers?
I didn't. I was a Rocket fan, so yeah, I
didn't root for him for sure.

Speaker 6 (01:44:57):
I mean we hated the Warriors because they tormented us
here in Houston. Oh yeah, the American large hate the Warriors,
maybe to an extent.

Speaker 2 (01:45:03):
Yeah, oh hell yeah, we hated the Warriors, especially when
Kevin Durant went over there. Remember all that talk for
all those years. If you can't beat him, charnam, I
got bad news. I didn't harely hate him as much
as others. Oh you know what, Ross going to Houston.
Ross the bandwag jump jumping.

Speaker 6 (01:45:19):
Ross appreciates greatness.

Speaker 2 (01:45:20):
Ross loves if a team is really going good. He
wants to continue to jump from one of the greatest teams.
Look at this all time great team. This is horrible,
was horrible at all. I'm not interested.

Speaker 6 (01:45:37):
I didn't say it was an interested, but I'm not
gonna buy another pregame time. You're not gonna get a
breaking down four hours a day of Chiefs Eagles breakdown.

Speaker 2 (01:45:44):
For the Super Bowl. No one would want. That's boring.
AF dynamic running backs to kwumb Barkley against the Chiefs
is terrible. Nobody's saying, And here's the embellisher. You want
solid rational takes me embellishments. Rossville Area seven three not

(01:46:08):
a heart attack. You better not if you do called Dane.
We'll have to get and replace you with the rest of
the week. Seven one three two one two five seven
ninety seven one three two, one two five seven ninety
Come on.

Speaker 1 (01:46:19):
In lunchtimers, lunch timers, It's the Matt Thomas Show with
Ross on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (01:46:36):
You know I hate Ross on Twitter? Besides people being mean,
what do you hate, Matthew? There is some photos going
around today.

Speaker 6 (01:46:48):
That, uh continue to show host Al two Bay practicing
and left field?

Speaker 2 (01:46:53):
Would he really be out there today? And would anybody
be allowed to see that?

Speaker 6 (01:46:56):
Are these AI photos? I saw some AI photos of
him dropping balls in left field?

Speaker 2 (01:47:01):
All right, maybe that's it? Yeah. Ari Alexander over at
Channel two says the current offer of six one fifty
six unlucky to get a deal done. Boy Breggs really
wants that bigger money, doesn't he.

Speaker 6 (01:47:18):
He doesn't particularly care that. Uh, I don't say that's
not true. It's not swaying him that break Altube is
is willing to move to a different position.

Speaker 2 (01:47:29):
Right. One thing I wanted you bring up again what
you said earlier in the show when we asked you
about the vibe you you didn't get a strong vibe
from Dana on Al two being left correct repeat that
for the right.

Speaker 6 (01:47:40):
Yeah, it didn't feel like it was really It's just
from everyone in kind of the players, and we were joking.
We made a bunch of left field jokes all day,
and everybody was just like kind of laughing on and off, like, yeah,
this that's as ridiculous as it sounds. It sounds as
ridiculous to us as it does to them.

Speaker 2 (01:47:56):
Well, they're all they're all being very the sound bites
that I heard where the Astros are being super coy
about it, Like if, like Joe Spotted was not willing
to address what he would do, well, what are what
are the options? Because Parrette hasn't played the outfield before.
You're not moving Jeremy Payne out there right, No, So

(01:48:17):
you're gonna if you're if you're subpar in one defensive position,
it doesn't really matter where you're moving that subpar person.
You're just gonna do it, especially if the guy is
the one that probably volunteered his availability to go out there,
because Parretta's I would think, is probably a part of
the future of the Astros. You gave up a boatload
of you gave up, Kyle Tucky, you wanted a lot

(01:48:37):
in return. You weren't just trying to grab a one
and done guy. My thought is that at least for
the next couple of three years that uh Etik Prettees
is a part of this team. So you're not gonna
flippantly put him out to somewhere he's never been before
when you when you're trying to establish what he could be,
and he very well could be the future second basement
of this team after all two Bates gone. If you're

(01:49:00):
thinking about him long term, it only there's just I mean,
you can be coy about it all you want, but
that's the only thing that makes sense. Unless you played
Alvarez Moore and left than you're willing to tell the audience,
and that would mean more Josel tub at DH. But

(01:49:21):
I still think even I'm just trying to deduce things here, ma'am.
If you have you're to on play forty games and
left you give Dubon maybe fifteen or twenty. You're still
looking at about a ninety ninety five games in Josel
Tuba in left field, and that's not a full season,
but that's still more than half. Its still probably more
than you would want.

Speaker 6 (01:49:42):
But as Ken Rosenthal said in that bite, Matt is
his days as an elite defensive second basement are long gone.

Speaker 2 (01:49:51):
Well, only anybody was arguing that these who got mad
mad at me for bringing up his stats because they
were nothing but nasty stats. They were fair, they were accurate.
It's it's one thing. But they were.

Speaker 6 (01:50:06):
Sixty seven games in left for Dubon last year.

Speaker 2 (01:50:11):
No, well, forty four started. I guess maybe he was
shifted or came in late in some Yeah, which means
you could very well do that with al two bay
down the stretch, although you're taking his bat out of
the line. If you don't want to do that either,
especially if it's in a key spot. Yeah, you might
have to defensive replace him at some points.

Speaker 6 (01:50:24):
Yeah, yeah, I just it just doesn't make a a.

Speaker 2 (01:50:34):
I don't know why would Rosenthal say that. Remember, these
national guys are so tied into the agents. This is
like a this is like a mine trap for us.
We're trying to circumvate these dis maze that we're in
right now. Yeah, we're not getting anything direct. We got
to read the tea leaves. Matt, Well, then how are you,
how are you reading this right now, I damn leaf.

Speaker 6 (01:50:55):
If I spent well Ken Rosenhal, things thrown me for
a loop because I told you I came out of
that weekend with all those interviews fan Fast, I came
out of that weekend saying, yeah, this, this Bregman to
this Bregman thing is far fetched. Or maybe they're thinking
it would be somebody else in left and so if
Bregman does sign, maybe that could be it. Everybody's laughing
off the al Tuo van Left thing because it would

(01:51:17):
never happen, and they would put somebody else on left,
whether it be Paratus or or pinion.

Speaker 2 (01:51:23):
Yeah, but how.

Speaker 6 (01:51:26):
Is Hose going to I mean, this is and again
I don't what did hoes they do with the age
of nineteen.

Speaker 2 (01:51:30):
He had to play when you're when you're a kid,
you always play different spots. I mean, and he's caught
fly balls before, but not at the at the steam
that would be coming something towards left field. No, it's different, man,
It's tough. But let's go back to my original point.
Are people ai ing al two bay and left field?
That's that's maybe it's real. I don't know. I don't

(01:51:51):
know what picture you're talking about. Yeah, I don't. I'm
I'm I'm anti AI. By the way, I've already made
that decision. I don't want that anymore. Yeah.

Speaker 6 (01:52:02):
The thing with AI is who asks for this?

Speaker 2 (01:52:05):
Now?

Speaker 6 (01:52:05):
It is funny when I post when I put into
Grock or whatever it's called. I put in uh Patrick
Mahomes kissing an NFL referee and then it pops right up.

Speaker 2 (01:52:14):
It does make me laugh, and then I post it. Yeah,
so you're part of the problem. You're right. You know what,
I'm gonna stop. I'm gonna be anti AI flea on.
Do you know what? Delete your account?

Speaker 6 (01:52:24):
Uh No, I'm not gonna delete my acount at sports RV.

Speaker 2 (01:52:28):
Yeah, if you're a porn bot or a crypto dude, yeah,
you can follow sports RV absolutely.

Speaker 6 (01:52:33):
At sports RV, we'll take you. We don't discriminate.

Speaker 2 (01:52:36):
I try to keep my as an organic of a
list as possible. For whatever in your psychopath, I am
a psychopath. When that comes with it, that's fine. I
can respect that. At least you call it to my face.
That's true. Seven one three two one two five seven
ninety seven one three two one two five seven ninety
Do you were supposed to believe the Cubs when they
say that Ryan Press or our closer for sure, Yes, so,

(01:53:01):
because apparently that was the big stumbling block mm really.

Speaker 6 (01:53:06):
That he wouldn't wave his trade. He wouldn't wave his
claws until they named him closer.

Speaker 2 (01:53:10):
That's one of reports I saw.

Speaker 10 (01:53:11):
Oh yeah, I.

Speaker 6 (01:53:12):
Believe that from Ryan Presley. I mean, come on, don't
I haven't looked at this.

Speaker 2 (01:53:21):
Let's go into the mind of Ryan Presley. And by
the way, I'm a big fan and he listens to
the show. He used to. I don't think he still
listens around, but he's He's told us how much he
listens to show and appreciate that. So he probably stopped
listening the last couple of years. Well, it wasn't our fault.
We just recorded the facts. Everyone like we were trying
to embellish numbers and stuff. I mean, he was getting
getting knocked around. But my point is, okay, so if

(01:53:42):
you're in Ryan's head and you know, the numbers weren't
as good last year, and he was getting a lot
of people on the base pass and he was not
lessarily blowing saved because there weren't a lot of save
opportunities for him, frankly because it was in the eighthist
compared to the ninth. Mm hmm. Do you think he's

(01:54:02):
perform He's watching himself and his performance differently than the
rest of us are, because I can. I mean, it's
pretty incredible that he would be able to go after
being moved to the eighth inning and having a okay
year last year, all of a sudden, being able to
command the Cubs to say, hey, Chicago, I'll come to you,
but I need you to make me my closer. It's
like it's almost like he is his performance is different

(01:54:27):
than what the rest of us are seeing. Well, I
think if I think there is a world where you
can convince yourself that Ryan Pressley is pretty good. First
of all, you have to not look at our you'd
have to not look at Era, but some of his well,
you also have to not look at his batting average against.

(01:54:48):
Is there any cause your numbers, dork? Is there any
number that says orian, we get why you think you
have been a victim of some bad breaks or defensive.

Speaker 6 (01:54:59):
His field, the independent pitching is better. And also, uh,
we've gone through this number before. Batting average balls in play,
it can be very lucky. Right, you know you can
hit somebody can hit ten bloops against you and they
have a thousand batting average. You probably did a pretty
good job pitching. You just got unlucky. His batting averaging
balls in play last year was extremely unlucky. Three point
thirty eight as opposed to two seventy two the other

(01:55:20):
the year before. That's a sixty point jump. So theoretically
that number would go back down and his numbers would
improve next year. Yeah, does that make sense?

Speaker 2 (01:55:30):
Yeah, problem is you're going into I mean, when the
when the wind blows out at Wrigley, you think it's
a piece of kick to hit a home run at
uh dyke in Park. Imagine how it's going to be
a breeze, literally a breeze to hit one out in Chicago.

Speaker 6 (01:55:44):
Yeah, by that singular metric, he had some bad luck.
I would take it's funny because I was watching I
told you I watched MLB today. They had Matt Best
Gersion and Harold Reynolds on Now again. Harol Reynolds eh Bess.
Gershon said, what would you rather have Bregman playing for
you every day? Or press of the bullpen?

Speaker 2 (01:56:04):
What do you think? He said? I hope, he said,
Bregman playing for you every day. Nope, he took press
who said this, Harold? Come on, Harold, he's getting older.
I guess yeah, I guess you because bullpens can move
up and down so much. One year you can have

(01:56:25):
a bullpen that's amazing, the next one you can have
a bad one. Maybe he's thinking, you know what, Brian
Presses in twenty eighteen has been pretty damn consistent. I mean, look,
I have appreciation for him. I think the team who
all right, so you have a Braves your eighth inning guy,
now Hayter your ninth who's your seventh inning guy? Is
Taylor Scott ready to take the bull by the horns
on that one? Did you bring that up with him

(01:56:46):
when you talked to what's Bennett Susa up to? Is
Bennett susar seventh thinning guy? Man? I don't know, because
of course I played back up right, Brian King, Uh,
you got yeah, I have to go through the roster,
but you got guys. Well, how about the other little
nugget from the weekend that Lance mccullors is uh not
gonna be ready ready for the start of the season.

Speaker 6 (01:57:07):
What's Forest Whitley doing forrest got a shot, right, Yeah, Oh,
Lance mccullor Junior and Luis Carci and not ready for
the season. By the way, Ryan Presley's numbers all got
worse though, chase percentage with K percentage, walk percentage, hard
hit percentage not good.

Speaker 2 (01:57:25):
So you're saying, as the Astros got better or they're
not miss him.

Speaker 6 (01:57:28):
As much, you're not gonna miss him as much, and
maybe the Cubs. Maybe the Cubs are like, yeah, we'll
put you as closer, because generally in twenty twenty five,
you don't need to necessarily need your best reliever as
your closer. Their best reliever. Last year, the Astros Brian
a Bray. He wasn't the closer. Yeah, but you gotta
use him anyhow.

Speaker 2 (01:57:43):
The Astros gotta get Brian a Bray arrest. This year,
I felt like he was just, oh my god, what
do you play? I think he played one hundred and
sixty three games in the regular season. I think he
was playing more than a game per month, which is
hard to do. That does makes sense, No, I didn't,
but I was gonna let it. He played seventy eight appearances. Yeah,
who in pitch six hundred and fourteen innings. It's crazy

(01:58:06):
seventy two the year before Hope's arm didn't fall off. Well,
he's got let's see a couple more years of arbitration,
so they're gonna run him into the ground like I
will not you, I will not be used after appearent
sixty one.

Speaker 6 (01:58:21):
All right, let's see who are we gonna send out there,
Brian Obrey, who's under team control and arbitration, or Josh Hater,
who are paying twenty million dollars.

Speaker 2 (01:58:27):
Let's send Brian a bray you seven one three two
one two five seven ninety seven one three two one
two five seven ninety It was a glorious basketball weekend
for Houston, for our friends in college station, it was
not a little basketball chatter. Next twelve forty four Sports
Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 6 (01:58:47):
Matt Thomas putting the age in.

Speaker 2 (01:58:52):
Angry. Want to just scream.

Speaker 6 (01:58:54):
First second, h Towns sports for lunch on a ninety.

Speaker 2 (01:59:04):
Down, A thirteen second straight hold. We get down now,
starts to dribble to the right side. Ten seconds to go,
bounce past Julian Larry, get some trouble out to Tadwan Mark.
Six seconds Traman drives in off the glass.

Speaker 5 (01:59:14):
Tehit's good three point seven ago, Aggie's hit bound.

Speaker 2 (01:59:18):
Here's Taylor two seconds one watches for mid court alter rand.
No good, Texas wins the game? What a cup back?
How long the words down? Twenty two as they break
the hearts of the Aggies up? Texas A and M.

Speaker 3 (01:59:35):
Final score Texas seventy, Texas A and M sixty nine.

Speaker 2 (01:59:43):
Did they really break the hearts? Or is it just
yet another bitter pill to swallow for.

Speaker 6 (01:59:47):
Fighting Texas Aggie fan, I'd have to say that'd be heartbreaking.
Of course, give up a twenty two point lead against
your rivalty minute game ross, against the team you obsessed
so much about.

Speaker 2 (01:59:58):
Man, that's hurting. Mmmmmmm.

Speaker 6 (02:00:01):
Back to back wins over the ranked Missouri Taggas and
the ranked Texas A and M Aggies. So your coach
is gonna get you guys into the tournament. After all,
you got some nice quad one wins. Bat Man, This
SEC schedule, did you see the Alabama like down the
stretch schedule?

Speaker 10 (02:00:20):
No?

Speaker 2 (02:00:20):
Tell me.

Speaker 6 (02:00:20):
In basketball, i'd have to pull it up. But it's
they're playing here, I'll pull it up.

Speaker 9 (02:00:26):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (02:00:26):
They played number one, Auburn number twenty Missouri number twelve, Kentucky,
number fourteen, Mississippi State, number eight, Tennessee, number five Florida,
and number one Auburn.

Speaker 6 (02:00:33):
Again, it's like the last eight games of the seats.

Speaker 2 (02:00:36):
And for them, for a school that doesn't even care
about basketball, I mean they kind of do. Yeah, they're
they're top five in the country. Seven straight games against
rank competition unless Miszoo falls out because they're not very good.
You noticed kind of how his voice trailed off during
the end of that. I said, unless unless that felt unnecessary.

(02:00:56):
We beat Kansas, that's good. We beat Kansas. I think
we beat Florida.

Speaker 6 (02:01:03):
That's great. Oh, the Florida is really good. That's all
I can remember.

Speaker 2 (02:01:08):
So any chance ross that we that we as a
city of Houston because we are twenty four to seven
sports and nothing, but yes, it can be a basketball
town for the next two months. Uh No. By the way,
Texas next game at number twenty third ranked Ole Miss
their coach, M your buddy, my buddy, he's your buddy. Yeah.

(02:01:32):
We took a picture together at Tota Center many years ago. Okay,
we had the he had the Red Raiders sign up. M.

Speaker 6 (02:01:40):
Well, now he's with Ole Miss. Chris Beard is Well,
they've got the team ranked. It's better than they're doing
in Texas.

Speaker 2 (02:01:48):
Imagine going from living in Austin, Texas to Oxville, Mississippi.
Now Oxford, the co Eds at Ole Miss are legendary. Hmmm.

Speaker 6 (02:02:04):
Are you saying that factored into Chris Beer's decision.

Speaker 2 (02:02:07):
I don't think so, especially after the reason why he
left Texas to begin with. Well, was fired. That's true,
he's lost that they've lost three in a row. By
the way, Mississippi State is ranked too. How many SEC
teams are ranked? I believe every school in the conference
is ranked. Mississippi State, A and M and Missouri have
all beat Ole Miss recently, but they did beat Alabama

(02:02:28):
before that. Why is the SEC so tough in basketball?
Because you can pay the players now? Yeah, By the way,
I brought this up earlier, and I need a ruling
from you. You know, we used to there was just
a bunch of words you couldn't say in terms of
describing how college teams performed. The number one is you
gotta be careful when you say choke. Uh huh. But

(02:02:49):
I think those those those those gloves are off now
because the fact that they're basically they're paid athletes now.

Speaker 6 (02:02:56):
Yeah, but as you said, they were kind of paid before, but.

Speaker 2 (02:03:00):
They were illegally paid back then. Now they're legally paid,
probably too much.

Speaker 6 (02:03:06):
But my point is not too much. If you can
get it, you take it.

Speaker 10 (02:03:09):
I know that.

Speaker 6 (02:03:11):
But can we can we can you say when the
team loses a twenty two point lead in the first
half of a game and it's only twenty two twenty
minute halbs, that you choked.

Speaker 2 (02:03:19):
That's a choke.

Speaker 6 (02:03:21):
The choke in the referees, we're calling a lot of fouls,
just saying it helped the long hornes get back in
the game and.

Speaker 2 (02:03:26):
The aggi's missed a bunch of free throws. I think
that the worst shooting free throw team in the conference.
Just throwing it out there, Rosty, Okay, And you could
say what you want. I never necessarily, I mean, the
choke is a choke as a joke. Yeah, how much
as fourth graders can choke in a basketball game. You
weren't worried about the age affiliation to the such choked?

Speaker 6 (02:03:46):
Yeah, a little Timmy and the YMCA. They got up
eight and they lost sixteen to fourteen. That's that's choke.

Speaker 2 (02:03:50):
Oh, you are tough. You are a tough critic, all right,
all right, seven one three two, one two five seven
ninety seven to one three two point two five seven
nine zero. Okay, So we're not gonna be a basketball
team city for the next two months. What you're saying,
I don't think so. No matter how deep the Cougars
go in the tournament, if I needed them to leave

(02:04:10):
that game, Texas goes, I needed the Cougars to lose
because you said they were only gonna lose two games,
are you? I tried.

Speaker 6 (02:04:16):
I got you to back off saying they were only
going to lose one game in Can Conference.

Speaker 2 (02:04:20):
I'm kind of scared about West Virginia's. First of all,
it's not an easy place to get to. Secondly, it's
way up there. Third, and they just came off the
big high of beating Kansas and Kansas. Uh yeah, they're
four and four in conference though, You'll be fine. All right,
that's good. Cyclones are third in the country. Cougar's sixth. God,

(02:04:44):
how does Iowa State have a program? I mean, I've
been to Ames. There is nothing there but the come
and go. They're always good. They are always good. They're
their athletic programs are good. I mean football is always
going to bowl games. They've played a couple of conf
for championship games over the years.

Speaker 6 (02:05:02):
Yeah, they do pretty well for being in the middle
of nowhere Iowa.

Speaker 2 (02:05:04):
Seriously, you've been names.

Speaker 6 (02:05:06):
No, it's literally in the middle of nowhere. Not on
the bucket list.

Speaker 2 (02:05:11):
I mean when when the price is right, has A
has A has a chance to win in the showcase
or trip to Ames, Iowa, the contestants overbid intentionally. Hm hmm,
that's a game show really banger joke that No, man,
it's hilarious. Matt, Oh, God, the material I come up
with just unsurpassed. It really is. No one gets it

(02:05:33):
a bit me. That's fine. I can live with that,
all right. Uh seven one three two one two five
seven ninety seven one three two one two five seven
nintiy are this is the city? Are the Super Bowl
parties being planned for Houston for the Philadelphia versus Kansas
city for the second time in three years? No, we're
all gonna run to Discovery Green and watching on the

(02:05:54):
big screens. Oh is there gonna be a big screen?
Maybe you're gonna watch it at home? What are you
talking about? Yeah, I'm gonna watch it home, get some
chips and some dip. Maybe make some chili with beans
without beans? What is wrong with you? Beans have flavor
to it. What are you talking now? There's no beans?
Is filler?

Speaker 6 (02:06:14):
If you go, if you try to go to an
international chili competition and you so, it will be a
mood point. They're gonna kick you out and spit in
your face. You can put beans in your chili, but
real chili doesn't have beans.

Speaker 2 (02:06:28):
How about that? And so you're telling me if I
look up the definition of chili, there is no there
is no suggestion in all that beans could be in chili.

Speaker 6 (02:06:39):
They shouldn't be. It's like putting ketchup on a hot dog.

Speaker 2 (02:06:42):
You can do it. You can do it. I guess
you're right. That's that is the perfect example. You could
put ketchup on your hot dog. But make fun of you.
M My buddy reid Get is listening to the show
right now, says we can be a college basketball town
for the next couple of months. I'm a flat I'll
tell you right now and read. If you're listening, I
bet you get my back on this. I won Final four.

(02:07:06):
This being top eight year in year out's pretty damn cool,
but I need the final four. Isn't San Antonio or
Ross of All Places too? The hops? Gepping a jump.

Speaker 6 (02:07:18):
I'm reading more about beans on Wikipedia.

Speaker 2 (02:07:19):
Sorry, hold on.

Speaker 6 (02:07:21):
While it is generally accepted that the earliest chilies did
not include beans, proponents of their inclusion contend that chili
with beans has long enough history to be considered authentic.

Speaker 2 (02:07:30):
We'll put it this way. If you went to the
grocery store and went to ray Tree, UI, you can
get both. You can easily get both. You don't have
to ask for any special attention like a special can.
The Chili Appreciation Society International specified in nineteen ninety nine
that cooks in their competitions are forbidden to include beans
in the preparation of chili for official competition. Six years ago.

(02:07:50):
Things change, Things do change. Final hour of the Matt
Thomas Show. Lots of excitement about the Suit Poot Bowl
coming up.

Speaker 6 (02:08:01):
Lots of excitement about our Rockets taking on the Boston
Celtics tonight.

Speaker 2 (02:08:04):
We'll have it for you at six thirty with a
tip time. Who has the launch pad at five thirty?
I think it's one of the Adams.

Speaker 6 (02:08:09):
I don't know which one, whichever one's not words rap
Rockets wrap, what we me yours truly talking all things
Rockets versus the Celtics after the game, give us a
call seven one.

Speaker 2 (02:08:19):
Three, two, seven ninety. Have the calls picked up?

Speaker 6 (02:08:23):
They've tapered a little, but it's also been weird, like
late night Sunday games.

Speaker 2 (02:08:27):
Say you know it's it is fine? All right tonight
you're gonna get nine calls.

Speaker 6 (02:08:32):
Hey, it's an early game. It's a big matchup. Hopefully
the Rockets win. Let's talk some Rockets ball after the
game on the Rockets.

Speaker 2 (02:08:38):
Wrap, and I will bitch about my broadcast location the
entire time. God, nobody wants to hear that, Matt. They
do when when I take a photo where I sit,
You're gonna be like, damn, Matt, I feel bad for you.
You're gonna get a bunch of those sting in the
rafters gifts. No, this is not I'm down close to
the floor. Oh what are you whining about? You'll find
out tonight.

Speaker 6 (02:08:58):
As I tweeted out about six fifteen, little time, okay,
stinging the raptors. I appreciate the fact, you know, had
a little uh wrestling reference, So that makes me happy.

Speaker 2 (02:09:09):
I've just seen it on Twitter a million times. Anytime.

Speaker 6 (02:09:12):
You know what, I'm sick of these people's seat shaming.
Your ass is watching from your couch. If somebody is
up in the rafters, who cares, That means they're at
the game. They're enjoying it. Generally in these arenas, there's
not a bad seat in the house. It doesn't come
over across well when you put it in picture. But
even like at the top level the Toyota Center, you
get a pretty good view of the game.

Speaker 2 (02:09:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (02:09:30):
Yeah, like even if the if you're at the top
row at Arrowhead yesterday, Yeah, you saw the game right
your seat sham in eating Kraft mac and cheese on
your couch. Shut jobumass up.

Speaker 2 (02:09:39):
Oh it's good. Save it for Wednesday too, don't forget
you're right, I'm alright that down seven one three two
one two five seven, honey, with the word here for

Health dot Com slash Houston.

Speaker 1 (02:11:01):
Launchtimers.

Speaker 2 (02:11:02):
This is the Matt Thomas Show one O five on
Sports Talk seven NINTI. Matt Thomas with you from Boston. Tonight.
We're gonna have a fun one between the Rockets and
the Celtics. We'll have the broadcast five thirty on the
launch Pad, six o'clock Network pregame, and I'll have the
call from the Garden at six thirty. Ryan Presley accepts
the trade waves. No trade clause will go to the

(02:11:25):
Chicago Cubs. Alex Bregman remains a free agent. Although you've
got different people in the last handful of hours saying
that that six one fifty six is out there, and
Bregman's like, thanks, but no thanks, but you know what
these things were, Assie. It feels like could changeing a dime.
We're where January twenty seventh. Do you know, like the
first day of spring training is like three weeks away.

Speaker 6 (02:11:48):
Yeah, we'll be out there in a couple of weeks.

Speaker 2 (02:11:51):
Matthew, isn't that crazy? Yes, it is crazy, and he
still doesn't have I mean, and I feel like we're
a brookeing record on this. He there's no way he
envisioned this going as long as it did. I'm I'm
assuming that he thought Wan Soto's deal would get done,
and whenever that was done, the trickle down effect would
happen after that. Pitchers and catchers February thirteenth, it's two

(02:12:15):
weeks and three days. Gosh, it's just absolutely crazy how
this has gone for a guy who's still and say
what you will, Bradman Stone is prime.

Speaker 6 (02:12:25):
He just want to gold glove. His OPS was what
seven to sixties something like that, past sixty eight, Yeah,
I mean, there's not diminishing returns on this.

Speaker 2 (02:12:35):
Could there be in three to four years, yeah, but
most guys thirty five are gonna have diminishing returns.

Speaker 6 (02:12:40):
There have has been some decline in the last couple
of years with the bat.

Speaker 2 (02:12:49):
And the sluggish starts have been a part of his
regular resume, which he.

Speaker 6 (02:12:54):
Has plus last three years one thirty four, then down
to one twenty two last year one eighteen.

Speaker 2 (02:13:00):
So you would still take a guy, yeah, with an
OPS plus of one to eighteen and at third base.

Speaker 6 (02:13:06):
Absolutely. The question is do you want that at the
back end of the deal, And the answer is no.
But also to me, it's like you're think of it
as you're paying him, I don't know, forty million dollars
this year, in the next couple of years, and then
you're only paying him fifteen the latter years. Once you
average it all out, I mean, twenty five million dollars
for a third basement in his prime. Who's going to
hit you twenty six home runs like you said, and

(02:13:27):
provide all the leadership. We didn't talk about that a
lot with the players on Saturday about how important Alex
Bregman's leadership was as from a game planning standpoint. Jeremy
Pane had talked about it with Sean and Brian about
how like at two am, Alex Bregman's calling him going
over stuff with hitting, and Jeremy's like, I'm trying to sleep, bro,
But that that's the guy. He lives and breathes baseball.

Speaker 2 (02:13:49):
He's a born winner, a born leader.

Speaker 6 (02:13:51):
And you can't put a dollar amount on that, and
owners and general managers don't, but it matters to those
players in that clubhouse.

Speaker 2 (02:13:58):
So when you were asking Bregman and I and we're
gonna go to the phone calls this second here at
seven one three, two one two five seventy, when you
were talking about Bregman to the particular players at least
that you spoke to, what.

Speaker 6 (02:14:09):
Was their body language like, Yeah, I mean is everybody
was just a fusedive in their praise is the only
way I can think to put it. Like they just
they love the guy. It's like there, everybody's eyes lit up.
It was almost every time we said what does Bregman bring? Oh,
it's like a there was just just a reaction about
how how much they love they have for the guy
and how important he is to them, right and their success.

Speaker 2 (02:14:30):
Yeah, So there was none of this not rolling of
the eyes.

Speaker 6 (02:14:34):
It was like a like even in the middle of
the questions. I mean, Taylor Scott we were talking to
because he had interviewed with I think Pitching Ninja about it,
and he was just like, Oh, that dude, that dude's crazy.
It's so incredible. Everybody just talked just so much praise
for Alex Bregman and what he brings to this team.

Speaker 2 (02:14:51):
And I think again, show you the kind of praise
that and how how well respected he is. Jose al
Tuova is ready to take his second in base glove
and put in the outfield where he's never played before.
It was funny he was asked, he said, you're playing
the outfit. He goes, have you seen me playing? Have
you seen me there? Was no late games. Scratch. Hey,

(02:15:11):
let's put all to be out in left field just
for blanking giggles.

Speaker 6 (02:15:16):
I'd be curious. I'm going to pull up his history.
Has he ever played anywhere but second? Probably sometime. Oh,
here we are, four innings at short in twenty sixteen,
two innings at short in twenty nineteen.

Speaker 2 (02:15:32):
That's it. And then before that, thirteen year old in
the Venezuela League. Yeah league. Apparently I also worked the
concession stand in between his double headers of his games
during that day as well.

Speaker 6 (02:15:45):
I'm sure he did a great job. I'm sure he
gave great customer service.

Speaker 2 (02:15:49):
You ever tip anybody at the Little league a concession stand?
I haven't been to one as an adult because I
don't really go to Little league games. That's fair. I
don't know if i've ben Maybe when my nieces and
nephew start going, but they're pretty young. Here's the negative.
You know a lot of these people now don't allow
a lot of cashless places. I think that's hurt the

(02:16:11):
tip industry, absolutely. I think it's hurt homeless people. You
just tell every homeless gay, well, I don't have any cash, bro.
But it's like, you know, when you go to arenas
and I go to all the thirty different NBA arenas
and you go put in your card and they ask
you if you want to tip. Well, if you don't,
if you don't tip off that it's no big deal
because they don't really see it. If you don't tip

(02:16:33):
somebody with cash right in front of you, then then
then they're gonna get mad at you. I get mad.
That'd be just yeah, yes, happened. This weekend we had
the company work party thing. I couldn't. I couldn't.

Speaker 6 (02:16:43):
I didn't have any cash on me, so I had
to get the Broad's Venmo. The broad is what you
called her the young ladies men Venmo Oh, I like
Broad better when we're who you are. How was the party,
by the way, it was great. There was somebody who
was super now. The DJ was just playing music and
there was this one person that was extremely insistent it

(02:17:06):
was not a karaoke party, but they pushed extremely hard
harassed the DJ to put make it into karaoke.

Speaker 2 (02:17:15):
So it was a party where people were dancing and
listening to good music, and it turned into people just
yelling at songs they didn't know.

Speaker 6 (02:17:22):
Well, there was only one person was really really pushing
for it to be karaoke.

Speaker 2 (02:17:26):
Matt, Do I know this person? Well? I think you
can guess who it was. Is it a seven nine years?

Speaker 16 (02:17:33):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (02:17:33):
I know who it was. Come on, I saw the video.
Should have come up with it faster.

Speaker 6 (02:17:38):
And and to be honest, the video that I saw
featured two people with microphones. Yes it did, and one
of them I know really well, I got I got
roped into this.

Speaker 2 (02:17:53):
Wait a minute, nobody wrote roping into karaoke means they
put the microphone are you serious? And put mask tape
all around you to say you can't remove your the
microphone your hands.

Speaker 6 (02:18:04):
Have you seen Chris Gordy on the prow He's literally
begging everyone, come on, Ross, you gotta do it, man,
nobody else will do it.

Speaker 2 (02:18:09):
You gotta get on there.

Speaker 6 (02:18:10):
He needs me to sing, so okay, if people don't
know it was me and Chris Gordy. Chris Gordy does
the the shaggy song Angel. He has somebody do the chorus,
which I've had to do for him before this maybe
the third time I've done it now, and then he
does the shaggy part and he was like, come on, man,
you gotta do it. Nobody else will do it. You
gotta do it.

Speaker 2 (02:18:29):
I was like, all right, fine, yeah, I got roped
into it. And he gets so excited to do karaoke.
It's like, your your like a twelve year old nephew
begging to take you to Astra World. Come on, let's
go Ashroald, Let's go Asher World.

Speaker 6 (02:18:39):
How come on, you gotta take me to ask You're like,
all ry, fine, we'll go to after World. Fine, I'll sing,
I'll sing the chorus the Shaggy's Angel.

Speaker 2 (02:18:48):
I was sent an Instagram DM and it said this
has to stop, and it was a It was video
of you and Gordy, our buddy Brian apparently wants to
talk some sports with us. If you want to talk
some sports with us, or karaoke or a weird thing
at my hotel, And it's not directly happening at my hotel,

(02:19:09):
it's happening in the building next to my hotel.

Speaker 6 (02:19:12):
Matt, you can get arrested for that, man. You better
watch out.

Speaker 2 (02:19:15):
All right, I'll take you up more of that plus
orders today's edition to Believe or Not at one fifty
today if I know, all right, my god, it's one thirteen. Yeah,
the show's that's the category seven one three. Uh, what
do you want to go? Eagle stuff?

Speaker 8 (02:19:30):
Now?

Speaker 2 (02:19:30):
I know we've done some chiefs that we want to
do an Eagles believe it or not. Today? Like the band, well,
I mean I know what I could have. No, I'm
thinking like the Philadelphia.

Speaker 6 (02:19:39):
How many of them are still alive?

Speaker 2 (02:19:42):
All but one? Now, they've had a lot of different
members over the years. I mean, yeah, of the main.

Speaker 6 (02:19:48):
One, Joe Wall she's still cooking, kicking right, He's.

Speaker 2 (02:19:51):
He's an old coot right now. My god, he was terrible,
just terrible. Seven one three two. I mean, I don't
mean edatorialized there seven one three two one two five.
I have seven ninety seven one three two five seven.
Our time is one fourteen. It's the Matt Thomas Show
with Ross here on Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 1 (02:20:07):
Unty Matt Thomas, Ross VI real, it's the Matt Thomas
Show with Ross on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (02:20:23):
If we're gonna put this song on, shouldn't Gordy be
in the studio with us? Yeah? I guess so. You
know what, I don't know if Gordy's helping you on
a Wednesday while I'm going maybe you guys would do
a live karaoke on the air with this song. Now
I'm good, I'll give him like six whiskeys and he'll
be ready.

Speaker 6 (02:20:39):
Wait the course part. Yeah, this is the part I
should sing.

Speaker 2 (02:20:46):
So you were like the Pips to Gordy's gladys Knight. Yeah,
I guess. So.

Speaker 6 (02:20:50):
He always wants to make make a show and then
this part comes in and then he goes into his
full Jamaican accident.

Speaker 2 (02:20:58):
You see, he's in this song ever since. We can
working with this because when we were in New Orleans
and the super Bowl he used that song.

Speaker 6 (02:21:04):
Yeah, it's his go too. You play the hits, Mattie.

Speaker 2 (02:21:07):
It's true. I like that have diversity in my karaoke.

Speaker 6 (02:21:11):
Well you're piano man, that's always what you would grow to.

Speaker 8 (02:21:14):
Yeah, I.

Speaker 2 (02:21:16):
Mix it up. I'm gonna go with some Bob Ser
next time I go. I may do a little bit
of Fast Car n version Night Moves. You know.

Speaker 6 (02:21:23):
Well the versions are the same, Yeah, singing the other one, it's.

Speaker 2 (02:21:27):
A little more country twang to this recent version. I
guess all right, seven one three, two, one two five
seven ninety Let's go to uh Brian in Parland with
the Matt Thomas Show with Ross Brian. Good afternoon.

Speaker 7 (02:21:40):
Hey guys, Uh, if you want to control a karaoke
machine for a while and don't want to give it up,
do American Pie. You'll be on there front least ten
minutes and just piss everybody else off behind you.

Speaker 2 (02:21:51):
It's just waiting to, you know, to do like living
on a prayer or something like that.

Speaker 7 (02:21:56):
So, uh, just hug the microphone troll if you're gonna,
if you're gonna get up there and do it, just
just do it. And just take the entire extended cut
version of American Pie. Done that, and Matt, Matt layoff
the good people of Iowa. We have family that has
has gone to Iowa state. But you're correct, it is
in the middle of nowhere. I have been there on

(02:22:18):
my way to Clear Lake, Iowa, which Matt used the
music officion auto would know that is the place where
the music died back in the nineteen fifties, right.

Speaker 2 (02:22:29):
With Buddy Holly and Big Bopper and Richie Allen's that.
So it's a beautiful part of the of the state.

Speaker 11 (02:22:36):
But yeah, there's a whole lot of nothing for about
two hours on the way up.

Speaker 2 (02:22:40):
Well, I'm gonna be there. Let me let me be
fearing this. I have been to des Moines slash Aims
three or four times in my life. I like it
very much. I like Heartland of America. I like good food,
I like nice people. I'm not looking for a lot
of recreational activity like mountains and eaches and whatnot. I mean,

(02:23:01):
if I'm going to a city like that to call
a game, I just wanted to be nice, good atmos,
good feeling, good sports. Well that's good for me. But
I just don't know how you get an eighteen year
old that lives in La Chicago, Detroit, Miami and go, hey, Ames, Iowa,
where you should play your college athletics.

Speaker 7 (02:23:18):
Yeah yeah, I mean it's the nearest major city to
that is probably Minneapolis.

Speaker 2 (02:23:23):
I was talking about, you know what, and I don't
mean to work blue on you here a little bit,
But the reality is I've asked people how do big
city kids go to Midwestern small cities. This is pre anil.
It's because they say that, Well, the recruiting is wonderful.
And I'll let you interpret it from there. Brian, the

(02:23:46):
rest of the phone, quick, yeah, real quick on the strows.
You know, look, I love.

Speaker 7 (02:23:51):
I would love for Bregman to come back like everybody else,
but let's not forget you know what happens when you
put second basement in the outfield and that's not their
natural position. We saw it with Craig Bigio, and you
know that lasted what all of one maybe two years
when Jeff Kent was there, and that it wasn't it
wasn't the smoothest transition.

Speaker 2 (02:24:10):
But let's don't forget this fourteen million that you clear
off the books.

Speaker 7 (02:24:13):
That gives you some flexibility now maybe to go out
and get you another just arm or maybe another outfield bad.

Speaker 2 (02:24:19):
Or something like that. But it doesn't clear up the
space for Bregman.

Speaker 7 (02:24:23):
But I think you could move Carotini, which he's not
as valuable now. I mean, he's still a good bat
off the bench, being a switch hitter at all, but
because you don't need him at first base now, he's
gonna backup catch what maybe two days a week something.
You could probably get away with Caesar Salazar being that
third catcher who hasn't had a full full go of it,

(02:24:44):
you know, because he's been stuck in the pipeline down
at Triple A. But once a week you could probably
get away with that, but you still have to move Dubon.
But if you're putting de Zenzo and all these other spots,
you know, maybe he's your new utility guy and you
move on from Dubon and that frees up an additional
an million between those two. So if you're gonna do it,
you still have to make other moves if you're not

(02:25:05):
willing to completely blow about path attacks. But uh, I
am curious to know how much his elbow is still
maybe causing some concern those elbow gremlins.

Speaker 2 (02:25:16):
That we're in there and people are just balking at
it for whatever reason, and and maybe need to see him.
I don't know if he's doing private workouts for people
to prove that everything is fine.

Speaker 7 (02:25:27):
But you know, let's not forget he did have those
those elbow issues there towards the end of the year,
and I wonder how much that is causing all of this.
So thanks, thank you, Oh if you need to believe
it or not, all things Eagles, Saint Thomas Eagles, Boston
College Eagles, Philadelphia Eagles, Eagles a band.

Speaker 2 (02:25:44):
There you go. M this is the category that writes itself. Sports.
Harvey honestly, on.

Speaker 6 (02:25:50):
The elbow gremlins. If the Astros, if the reports are
accurates at six one fifty six is still there, that
means the elbow must be good.

Speaker 2 (02:26:03):
I don't think we would hear. We would hear through
the grapevine that people are worried about the elbow. Yeah,
I don't. Yeah, there's that is a factor into me. No,
I don't think so either. It was interesting we brought
up We really haven't brought it up. But I mean,
from what we understand, everything was good. And my guess

(02:26:23):
is medical I mean when when when you're being courted
by teams, they're looking at medicals. Yeah, I would have
to say that if the Astros indeed were really that
six one fifty six contract, is like sitting on a
table that's knowing that Bregman his elbow was okay to go.

Speaker 6 (02:26:37):
Yeah, I mean it's possible, I guess, But I remember
he he was never disabled last year?

Speaker 2 (02:26:42):
Was he he played through it? Did you know?

Speaker 6 (02:26:44):
He correct? He missed a couple of games here and there, but.

Speaker 2 (02:26:46):
Yeah, but he never he never was disabled during it.
So all right, thank you for the phone call. Where
are we going with this? Oh, there's a lot of
Iowa State talking there. Yeah, I don't know what what
does the Pressley reduction in salary do right now? They're
got to be feeling good, They're gonna be There's gotta

(02:27:07):
be some flexibility now that they don't have, say, four
days ago. But that flexibility would go away if Alex
Pregnant was to re sign Man. So there you were
there Saturday. There was just a lot of people, it was.
So you're telling me that that Dana was being coy?

Speaker 6 (02:27:25):
Would that be the time I would say he I
think he's basically calling in a long shot.

Speaker 2 (02:27:32):
The door cracked, Yeah, not closed. Yes, I mean I
can go find the audio for you if you'd like.
You know, half I'm busy, but you're bitsy working. Believe
it or not, I believe it or not all things.
Ryan Presley, Oh, that's good. A couple lot of knots.
It's fine. Put up a spelling of his name. No,
why because because you got it wrong? Matt Well, I
mean I wouldn't be the only one rude. You literally

(02:27:55):
quoted his wife lovely big fan of the show is
she loves the show. There's no chance. Okay, maybe the
I know I know Ryan did mm hmm, maybe an
towards the end. Yeah, he just calling, Hey, y'all gotta
stop giving Ryan Presley a hard time. Well, you know,

(02:28:16):
we used to. I used to. I had to call her.
I had a former player's wife calling her in alias
one time. Really, Oh yeah, that sounds like fun.

Speaker 17 (02:28:25):
That's that that you know?

Speaker 8 (02:28:26):
That is?

Speaker 2 (02:28:26):
That's disingenuous. She was trying to poke the bear to
see if the bear would growl at her at her
husband's performance. I'm not gonna say who it is. I
want to because I'm gonna be respectful, but it was.
It was a relief pitcher when I was very young
in my broadcast career. That sucked. Pete and Kavilia. No,
I said reliever and inky Danky dude didn't suck. Now,

(02:28:49):
granted his best days were as a ranger, but he
didn't suck. Pete Kavilla. That was a That was a
rare poll supprised you to go to the ken Oberkfelt card.
I don't know who that is. I was just naming
a random the first random name that came to my
mad in my head. It's probably didn't say h McLain,
that's usually your first go to name. I haven't used
that in a while. I know, proud of you one

(02:29:12):
at twenty. I do it because it annoys you. It
does annoy me, man, John is you know what you
bring up? John's name annoys me. The John John doesn't
annoy me. You annoy me. I know That's what I'm
here for, just thinking on an extra hour of this weekday?

Speaker 6 (02:29:27):
Have we told everybody in the everybody two days tend
to two? Folks, tell you send an email to the audience,
to the sales staff.

Speaker 2 (02:29:34):
Thomas show with Ross weekdays tended to here on Sports
Talks sevento. I am the Ross part. He is the
Matt part. Yeah, and we're on ten to two.

Speaker 6 (02:29:43):
Yes, have you in the department Monday through Friday, never
on Saturdays. Oh, by the way, I got honored for
my fifteen years of service. They also at the work function.
They also thanked rod Ryan for twenty years of the
Rod Ryan Show, but no thanks to Matt Thomas for
fifteen years of the Bat Thomas Show.

Speaker 2 (02:30:02):
That's fine. I gotta be coming up on another work anniversary.
You gotta be see I started in ninety two. No,
it doesn't count, not continuous. Oh no, they give me
They gave me the they gave me overall. Oh, I
know they gave you. It was nice. That's let's just

(02:30:27):
say some never mind, let's not say anything.

Speaker 6 (02:30:30):
Thank you to say thank you for keeping keeping me employed.

Speaker 2 (02:30:34):
Yes, thank you for giving me. I'm glad to have
a job. Here, here you go. Ten one three two,
one two five seven ninety seven one three two, one
two five seven ninety Nate Pearlson's telling us how to
feel about the Chiefs winning another AFC. You'll hear from
him next on seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (02:30:54):
Matt Thomas Ross VIIEL gets the Matt Thomas Show with
Ross's Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 6 (02:31:04):
Congratulations to Mike Tolman. He is a new Texans President
for Business Operations. Previously worked as the chief operating officer
of Legends Global Attractions, which provide services in business planning,
project management, sponsorship, premium ticket sales, merchandise marketing, food and beverage,

(02:31:29):
and apparently under the new regime, he will be working
for the Texans and has to report directly to.

Speaker 2 (02:31:36):
Hannah on a daily basis. Okay, are you made up
that last part?

Speaker 6 (02:31:39):
You don't know that it's not in the press release.
It's not in the press release. This guy's reporting directly
to Hannah. See you at Nieman Market. Hey, everybody's reporting
to Hannah. See you don't know that by now, you
don't know anything. It doesn't say in the press release.
See you at secks. That's not accurate.

Speaker 2 (02:31:58):
We'll be having a nine o'clock morning meeting every day
at Sacks, eleven thirty, lunch at the Neiman Marcus, and
ironically at the one thirty at TJ Max and River Oaks.

Speaker 6 (02:32:09):
Huh, we'll be reviewing the terms and conditions of the
MX black card.

Speaker 2 (02:32:16):
We could really add some stuff to this or not
so ROSSI he's got a stadium background.

Speaker 6 (02:32:24):
Interesting sounds like Matt Thomas was right.

Speaker 2 (02:32:30):
Now, this could be. This could be about a refurbishment
and energy. Yeah, it could be. They need to do something,
I guess.

Speaker 10 (02:32:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:32:37):
I mean they're a bit storious about the scoreboard is
so outdated and doesn't work that you can't get it repaired.
That's what the rockets ran into at Tota Center. These scoreboards,
they didn't They don't have the shelf life that our
scoreboards back in the day we were kids used to have.
Rock You just change out the light bulb. You can't
do it. Yeah, you change light bulb about in nineteen

(02:32:57):
eighty seven. Now you got to go buy a three
or billion dollar big box.

Speaker 6 (02:33:02):
Eight K pixels a little bit harder to replace than
the little light bulbs.

Speaker 2 (02:33:05):
I guess you can get that right.

Speaker 10 (02:33:06):
All right?

Speaker 6 (02:33:07):
We have the Chiefs and the Eagles, and the network
that's carrying the game ross is Fox.

Speaker 2 (02:33:13):
So Tom Brady will be on the call. Really yeah,
how does Greg Olsen feel about this? Oh, it's cost
him about five million. He's not real happy.

Speaker 6 (02:33:22):
They say anyone from ten million?

Speaker 2 (02:33:23):
What is it? Ten million and three million something like that?
Could you imagine not only getting the second best game
of a week as compared to the best, but you're
taking a sixty percent pay cut? HM?

Speaker 6 (02:33:34):
Stuff to watch Tom Brady fumble through broadcasts. Although he
did a good job on Sunday, I guess he was fine.
He you know, he doesn't bout like people were. I
got my buddies text me about how bad Romo sucked.

Speaker 2 (02:33:43):
I don't want the only there's just nobody. I go, man,
I don't want to hear this. I keep asking you this,
is there legitimately anybody that you hear on a game
broadcast NFL that says I would, right, it'd be better
serving me having the volume off. No, no, there are
some people I prefer than others, but there's nobody to

(02:34:05):
go turn this off. Yeah, I would agree with that.
So all right. So, even though the game is on Fox,
Nate Pearlson, who has butchered the Hollywood Squirres reboot, hosts
the CBS This Morning Show, which is fine. I don't
watch that show. I'm more of it today guy, and
does the NFL Today, which is good. On that came

(02:34:27):
in with this on the NFL postgame show.

Speaker 16 (02:34:30):
Say this to the fan bases out there. If you're
not a Chiefs fan, that's okay, but resist the urge
to fall for the narrative that we're tired of seeing
them win, that we might be fatigued of watching KC
go to the Super Bowl over and over again. You
are witnessing greatness and just be happy that you are alive.

Speaker 2 (02:34:48):
To be be there to see it. Oh, I'm so blessed.
Get him, Nate, so blessed.

Speaker 6 (02:34:56):
Thanks Nate, thank you so much for telling me how
blessed I am. Yeah, I wonder why where that came from.
Maybe he's he's a criminally or what does they call it?

Speaker 2 (02:35:09):
Terminal? The online? Yeah, Twitter hates the Chiefs. Sally would
hate the Chiefs. I think I think Twitter hates the
Chiefs for a variety of reasons. Let me get it
in no particular order. One, they get all the calls
mm hmm. Two Taylor Swift, Taylor Swift. Three. Pandy Reid

(02:35:31):
lost his weight. Pat Mahomes is kind of cheesy, corny,
corny dofa sy whoa. These Mahomes motto's commercials are hilarious. Matt,
What did you're just saying mahomes motto? M I don't
know what that man. This one is is the state
farm commercials. Oh so he's like a good Babor.

Speaker 6 (02:35:55):
Okay, I'm sorry, mate, Marmon, I forgot we rhyme on them.

Speaker 2 (02:35:57):
There you go, mate, Marmon, much better. They're good, they're recognizable.
I mean we had to celebrate them, all right, man,
I gept oh, go ahead, understand, I'm accepting it.

Speaker 6 (02:36:09):
That's it, good, accept it quickly though. I did cut
some Dana Brown from this weekend on the Astros Fan
Fast Spectacular. You tell me what you're feeling like the
first question out of the gate about We'll start with
this one on Bregmant and there's another one that maybe
gets more interesting.

Speaker 8 (02:36:29):
I would say the door is cracked, you know, not open,
but you know, it's interesting that he's still here on
the market. Ultimately, I think when we made some moves earlier,
you know, to put Parrettics at third base and we
signed Walker and you know, so we kind of solidified
the infield. But the fact that Bregman's still available, you know,

(02:36:53):
I've said, look, we've had conversations about it, you know
that as a front office and said, look, this guy's
still available.

Speaker 2 (02:36:59):
You know, you know, where's it going? You know. So, uh,
those are just some small talks that we've had.

Speaker 6 (02:37:05):
Small talks that we've had. The door is cracked, not open.
Your thoughts, Matthew, that we saw that he's out there,
we moved on, but we allowed to chext like it
would be like, h Ross, help me out.

Speaker 2 (02:37:24):
This is more analogy time, and here it comes. Here
we go your girl that you broke, you got a
new girlfriend. You got us, You went and got a
new girlfriend. But you're like, man, she's not as good
as the other one was in some respects. All lob
and see what's up girl kind of thing. Door is cracked,
not open, Meaning if she came in the door and

(02:37:45):
shut the door and locked it up, you'd we'dn't be
with her. But you know, you got back your backup pieces.

Speaker 6 (02:37:52):
Okay, too interesting if you had six on islands, maybe
that door crack becomes door open.

Speaker 2 (02:38:00):
Or yeah, our three vodka sodas in some people's cases. Okay,
more from Dana Brown. This is also interesting to me.

Speaker 8 (02:38:09):
Yeah, the re engagement is more so internal. We have
not talked to Bregman, but we've had some discussions about
Bregman just the fact the mere fact that he's still available.
You know, what would what will we do if we
were able to you know, sign them back? How would

(02:38:29):
that you know, shake up our current roster? And so
we we've certainly had those conversations, you know, just for
the mere fact that he's still available. And you know,
we treated like any other free agent. You know, we're
we're having discussions about all these free agents that are available,
and so the fact that you know, Bregman is still
available available, we had some.

Speaker 6 (02:38:50):
Conversations, internal conversations. Have not re engaged with Bregman.

Speaker 2 (02:38:59):
That really to me, he sounds like I can't believe
I'm even having to discuss Alex Preman. I thought he
was gone. I'm with you. That was the feeling I
got at Matt eighty three, laf blank. Nate don't need
anyone telling me what to appreciate. Nate can keep his

(02:39:21):
lame ass opinions to himself. You tell him I like that.
I'm I'm gonna give you a Matt the Ben I'm
giving you a like on that one. Damn Nate and
Merleson tell me what I like. But back to Dana,
So let me ask you, this is this a case
and this is just me, This is pure conjecture of
my part. Is this Altuve and Crane wanting more of

(02:39:45):
Bregman to stay more than the general.

Speaker 6 (02:39:46):
Manager that could be? Could you reasonable a little bit
of that all? Or am I just making I mean
the general manager? I mean it's it's not Dana's money,
so I mean it ultimately, ultimately the uck, we'll stop
with Jim Crane.

Speaker 2 (02:40:03):
So I don't know that's interesting.

Speaker 6 (02:40:07):
Or would you feel like if you're Dana Brown, I
spent all this off season. I worked this trade to
get Paradus. We signed Christian Walker I did such a
good job, and then we're gonna go back to Bregman again.
When I thought we weren't we didn't you know, it
would have changed the way he operated this offseason. I
don't know.

Speaker 2 (02:40:22):
I got a one. I got another analogy for you.
This might be even worse. Oh, here we go. My
wife wanted a uh wrestler at some point, okay, and
we negotiated for a wrestler okay, and that the very
last second she changed her mind and said, I'm gonna
go get this other car instead. I did all the laboring.

(02:40:45):
You wanted me to get you a wrestler, so I
got you a wrestler, and now you're looking at another car.
How did you feel? How did that make you feel? Matt?
I was fine. I was indifferent. The other car was
better because I'm not a big fan of electric cars,
so it really helped. I don't think. Actually you sound
a little upset. No, I'm actually very happy. But I
mean I did put the leg work on in the rest.
