Launchtimers.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
This is the Matt Thomas SHOWDO.

Speaker 1 (00:07):
Three in h Town. Good morning, everyone, and welcome to
a Thursday edition of The Matt Thomas Show with Ross
here on Sports Talk seven ninety. I'm coming to you
from Beal Street, the heart of the mit South Memphis, Tennessee,
for tonight's fourth and final meeting of the regular season
between the Houston Rockets and the Memphis Grizzlies. The Grizzlies

(00:29):
resigning the third spot in the Western Conference, the Rockets
the two seed. The Rockets have already beaten the Grizzlies
three times so far this year. Going for this season
sweep tonight. We've got the Texans still looking for an OC.
We have Bregman still looking for a team. We have
the Rockets looking for a sweep. Sports Harvey, how the
hell are you?

Speaker 3 (00:50):
I'm doing great, Matt. It's fantastic. Couldn't be?

Speaker 1 (00:53):
That was yesterday? How was yesterday? Show? Was it amazing?

Speaker 3 (00:56):
It was good? And with Gordion for a couple hours.
We've got a lot of Rockets. Adam Clinton came on,
he said some mean things about you, and then and
then the show was over.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
Yeah, I've noticed he's really rude to me a lot
of times.

Speaker 3 (01:07):
Yeah, it happens.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
We all can't put in the work ethic that he
does on a normal basis.

Speaker 3 (01:13):
That's true. Well, he we was on for five hours yesterday,
so I appreciate him coming in early.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
I'm proud he's kind of making up for the weeks
and weeks and weeks he doesn't done shows.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
M Well, that sounds like that's personal between you two.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
That's fine. We love him. Hey, we'll we get kind
of one side note, and again I don't want to
start start with the dark note of the show, but
I have been watching a lot of the news cover
this morning, just complete uh sadness, and you know, when
you know, you know he was here, thoughts and prayers

(01:46):
when you hear that on television and people say, you
can kind of just climb glossed over, just deepest consolen
since everybody involved in that horrific plane crash yesterday in Washington,
d C. Not much more to say beyond that, but
just just terrible, terrible, terrible news. And apparently some members
of the US figure skating team are on there. Some

(02:06):
international folks were on that plane as well. But very
very sad day. So we try to stay away from
that kind of stuff. And obviously there's not much all
be more we can say about it except just our
our deep consultant indolences everybody involved in that. But that's
what you come to us for. It's just try to
keep things as light as possible. So we will do
that here on the radio show. Ross I spent yesterday

(02:27):
just looking at Twitter on the plane ride. It was
a short trip from Memphis to hear from Atlanta to Memphis,
everybody and their mother has these now these new conspiracy
theories about what Pregnant is going to do. I don't know,
do you find yourself doing the exact same thing, or
are you, as an Astro fan kind of like you
know what the squad's already said, if he comes, he comes.
But man, I'm kind of getting ready for what the

(02:47):
twenty six guys are gonna be on the active roster
start the regular season.

Speaker 3 (02:50):
Yeah, we kind of broke down the audio again yesterday,
me and Gordy and we just kind of went piece
by piece, and there's like three or four points in
like one minute of Dwayne Brown, uh, Dana Brown speaking
to where You're like, yeah, I don't think this is happening.
So I'm gonna stick with that, and I'm gonna stick

(03:10):
with the them them having moved on, you gonna put
your name on her in No, no, not a one hundred
percent sure, No you shouldn't.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
What was the last time you and I put some
of our name on it? We got it wrong, right?

Speaker 4 (03:22):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (03:22):
No, you and I said Dion wouldn't be the Cowboys coach.
We got it right.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
That's true.

Speaker 3 (03:26):
They went and got a much higher, more affluent Uh
uh higher, Yes, Brian Schottenheimer.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
On a Friday news dump. By the way, that's crazy.

Speaker 3 (03:36):
A Friday news dumped a coach hiring. That's how bad
it was for the Cowboys. You you're supposed to push
that along the way to like and we got ourselves
a new coach, new leadership in an administration, excitement in
the air, and they're like, yeah, we stayed internally, Brian
Schottenheimer and uh.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
And by the way, it makes it paints me that
Jerry Jones gives Dallas sports media way more material than
Callan Hannah give us with Houston sports material. Now, granted,
when Easter b was here, they were hiring one incompetent
coach after the other to run this football team. That
was good stuff for us too, but they haven't given

(04:14):
us much lately. I mean, Grant, Hannah and Cal were
behind Beyonce in the car when they were losing in
a Christmas Day game. And I think there will be
some stadium talk eventually coming up in the next twelve
months to just get ready for that. But largely they've
done a pretty good job of reimaging themselves. Watching Jerry
Jones at a press conference, it can fill up an

(04:37):
entire day of Dallas Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (04:40):
Yeah, it probably has. It's probably filled an entire week.

Speaker 1 (04:44):
That's why their ratings are so much higher than they
are here in Houston. They crushed it, Abboys to make
fun of for crushing for what's that. Yeah, they crushed
it in the ratings over there in Dallas. Yeah, Like
they have always had like one or two of their
stations in the top ten. It's incredible because again, the
Cowboy brand is just so awesome. It is so incredible

(05:04):
the reach of a franchise that has not been to
a what NFL NFC championship game in twenty plus years? Yes,
and the Texans have never been to a championship game ever.
Ough are you sure you won't be battle red? You
still you want to hang with that?

Speaker 3 (05:24):
Yeah? What do you mean? That's what being a fan
is all about, Matt. The good times are that much
more sweet because of the bad times. Isn't this Rockets
run and what they're doing and how they're in the
second in the Western Conference? Doesn't it feel that much
better because of all the suffering you had to do?

Speaker 1 (05:39):
Oh? And I suffered. They call me mister sufferable.

Speaker 3 (05:44):
I think there's an end in front of that.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
Oh no, no, okay, maybe they call me mister insufferable.
That's fine. H Well, you know at least, but I
do have in my brain and in my mind and soul.
I do have the two championship runs. Yes, I know
how good it can get in this town when it
comes to the right ckets.

Speaker 3 (06:01):
Mm hmm.

Speaker 1 (06:01):
I have my two cubrics a cony rings with the championships. Yeah,
but I was thirty years ago. Yeah, one of those
are valued right now. I wouldn't try to sell them.
I mean, I one, but you want you.

Speaker 3 (06:10):
To listen on eBay, just put a reserve price on there. No,
I'm not doing it. No, they're in a safety deposit.
Box and ever to be. I mean, I'm gonna go in.

Speaker 1 (06:16):
To my kids, I think, really, like, Dad, what are
these things? I said? This is these diamonds. I said, no,
they look like diamonds. I'll take one for what what
do you mean to have? How old were you when
they were on the first championship?

Speaker 3 (06:30):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (06:31):
Eight?

Speaker 3 (06:31):
Nine? Nine?

Speaker 1 (06:33):
Could you recite the lineup?

Speaker 3 (06:35):
The starting lineup for the nineteen ninety four Houston Rockets
starting five?

Speaker 1 (06:39):
Can you do it? If you can do it? Not looking?

Speaker 3 (06:43):
Okay, watch computer, I don't cheat like this, So there's other.

Speaker 1 (06:47):
Hole I would? I would? Are you kidding?

Speaker 3 (06:50):
I'm looking at kim Olaje wan otis Thorpe yep, Robert
or yep? Now Kenny Smith started over Kassell case came
off the bench.

Speaker 1 (07:01):
Correct final answer? Yes, I will say Kenny Smith over
Sam Cassell. Okay, that's four.

Speaker 3 (07:10):
Yeah, don't say anything. Shut up?

Speaker 1 (07:14):
How long do I have?

Speaker 3 (07:15):
How long do I have here?

Speaker 1 (07:17):
Put about a clock? Five seconds? People are screaming into
their phone? Are there in their cars right now? I know.

Speaker 3 (07:22):
Look, I'm also sick and didn't get very good sleep,
so give me a break. This is weird. This is
like clicking wood. Why is it not coming to me?
Don't go on Twitter either, Oh, just go ahead. I
got it wrong.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
I guess Vernon Maxwell.

Speaker 3 (07:39):
Vernon Maxwell. Of course. See I should have known that.

Speaker 1 (07:44):
And then that there was a third guard on that
team that year that got a lot of playing time
late in the game too. Do you remember who that was,
Scott Brooks. Scott Brooks, good poll. There was a lot
of conversation nineteen ninety four Sorts Radio, Scott Brooks should
play over Kenny Smith. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (08:04):
People didn't like Kenny Smith in those days.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
They did not not because he was trying to hold
on to what Harry had left. It was about his
overall performance on the court.

Speaker 4 (08:13):
M h.

Speaker 1 (08:13):
They love Sam Cassell, they loved the little fight guy.
Scotty Brooks was like the five minutes per half guy
that you know. All he did was shoot baskets and
dish the ball and then throw his hands up in
the air and wave and everything, and the crowd just
adored him. I remember we had a rally for the

(08:33):
first championship and my boss at the time, Dan Patrick Arlin,
Lieutenant governor, he says, hey, I want you to We're
gonna do this rally with the city and I want
you to go get some players. And I'm like, what
do you mean, go get some players? It's like day
one before the first game of the finals. And he's like, well, here,
I'm gonna give you some cash to go convince these
guys to come. Do it. And he says the only

(08:54):
thing you have to do is you have to get
Scott Brooks to come, because people love Scott Brooks. So
Ross I brought four players with me in the limbsing
we went and picked them up at their apartments of
their houses. You know how much money Dan Patrick gave
me a nineteen ninety four to go grab four players
for this like five minute hello, we love you, Houston,
see you later, and then go back in the car
and go back to two thousand dollars. Two thousand dollars

(09:16):
exactly right. What you gotta right wins not a damn thing.
Oh I had to say four hundred dollars for Scott
Brooks m hm. So it left me with sixteen hundred
dollars left. It was it was Scott Brooks, Chris gent
who was cheap, clearly, Yeah what do he cost? Fifty bucks?

Speaker 3 (09:38):
Robert Ory and I don't remember who other player it was,
but I remember the most expensive player was Robert Orry.

Speaker 1 (09:43):
I spent we got Richard Petrushka.

Speaker 3 (09:45):
I mean, I pulled up the roster.

Speaker 1 (09:47):
It could have been we got we got Robert. I
got Robert Ory for eight hundred dollars. It was like
I was playing, let's make a deal, Earl Cureton, somebody.
It was some It was one of those nondescript players,
that's right. But I remember the two headliners. He said
you can. I got to go get Scott Brooks and
try to get at least one big name player, and
I got Robert Or. I felt like I was doing that.
I was. I was. I was price lining my NBA

(10:07):
players before price line was even round.

Speaker 3 (10:09):
That's great, man, Eric right named their own price Eric Riley.

Speaker 1 (10:13):
It could have been Yeah, it doesn't really matter, but
point because I remember getting Robert Rory for eight hundred
and I had to save four hundred dollars for Scott Brooks.
And that's my nineteen ninety four and bas story and
one of many I have in my life. So good times.

Speaker 3 (10:26):
If the good times are hopefully coming back, man.

Speaker 1 (10:28):
They are. By the way, NBA All Star reserves of
being announced, it is again I'm biased on this is
I'll be gonna get in one of these groups. I
think he gets in. I don't know.

Speaker 3 (10:37):
I'd have to look at the candidates for bigs.

Speaker 1 (10:40):
Yeah, but it's it's doesn't come across like immediately to mind.
I mean, if he gets in, it's gonna be awesome.
Mm hmm. But I don't know if it's an it's
not a slam dunk. Put it that way.

Speaker 3 (10:49):
It'd be because of team success. He's not having as
good as a year as he did last year. He's
better defensively, I think.

Speaker 1 (10:54):
But right, that's right, all right? Seven one three two
one two five seven Nini ross. When you get you
some throat lotenges or something? How we How we doing?

Speaker 3 (11:02):
I have lotenges, I am taking other two other medicines
as well, and I am scheduling a doctor's appointment for
after the show.

Speaker 1 (11:11):
Wow, damn, damn. I have this nasal trip myself. And
I've told you this for the last couple of days.
M Does that flown a stuff will work when you
shoot the stuff?

Speaker 3 (11:21):
I've never used it, so I'm not the one to ask. Okay,
I thought there was for allergies doctor to call the show?
Is that for allergies. I think Connor might know.

Speaker 5 (11:28):
Flownase kind of. It's like a little mini steroid that
helps open up your airways.

Speaker 1 (11:34):
Okay, so doctor get a prescription for that or can
I just go to the store and get it.

Speaker 3 (11:37):
You can go to the store and get it over
the counter, as they say, as a kid saying.

Speaker 1 (11:41):
That's right, all right, I just don't get it. Today
eleven thirty, we have the news at noon. At twelve,
we have email. Doak is going to join us at one.

Speaker 3 (11:48):
This safter do and who sounds sicker coming up at
ten thirty.

Speaker 1 (11:52):
It's true. I mean I don't feel bad, yeah, but
but I just it's just nasal.

Speaker 3 (11:57):
I feel bad.

Speaker 1 (11:58):
You sound like crap? Thank you? I mean, you know,
look great either. I mean I appreciate that I have
a cam, uh special camera that is uh pointing into
the studio.

Speaker 3 (12:06):
Can you see me saying you're number one?

Speaker 1 (12:08):
Yeah? But why are using a middle finger for that?
That seems a little odd.

Speaker 3 (12:11):
Hey, come on, you have to tell everybody.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
You should use the index finger more than the middle

Speaker 2 (13:33):
This is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross on FOURTOX seven.

Speaker 1 (13:38):
Ninety one of our listeners, Bond may have helped me out.
I think it was Pete chilcut that I had to
bring with me to the Little Prairie Hillole pregame pre
series pep rally. I want to double check to make
sure he was a Rocket during that time when he
was part of both teams. You know, Pete Chilcut, Ross
is fifty six years old.

Speaker 3 (13:57):
Now that sounds about right.

Speaker 1 (14:02):
Oh God, feel terrible. How old we're all getting fifty
six dreams? Like what sixty sixty one somewhere in that category.

Speaker 3 (14:13):
Yeah, probably, Oh my god.

Speaker 1 (14:15):
We need a championship, bad dude, We just do. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (14:18):
You can only keep trotting them out there for so
many years and now honoring the ninety four Rockets again.

Speaker 1 (14:24):
That's how. That's how. That's how Calvin Sampson felt with
all the five Slama Gembasi, It's like, I don't want
to hear about five, Sama, Gemma anymore, our team is
pretty damn good. By the way, the Cougar's won last
night against West Virginia so wonderful. Undefeated in the Big twelve.

Speaker 3 (14:38):
Well, great for them. That's the only reason I wanted
Kansas to win is so that you could lose your
You were trying to say they.

Speaker 1 (14:44):
Were only going to lose one conference game. Yeah. I
don't think I had them losing twice, do I?

Speaker 3 (14:50):
You said fewer than two. We tried to say one,
and I was like, Matt, it's a tough league. Noah,
you're right, So I talked you into two. Yeah, think
it might be zero. We'll see.

Speaker 1 (15:00):
I almost feeling they need to lose something just to
get themselves ready for the tournament.

Speaker 6 (15:04):
No.

Speaker 3 (15:04):
I think they should win, win, win, win win.

Speaker 1 (15:07):
Could you want them out? By the way, sorry about
your Longhorns last night? What happened? They lost to Ole mess.

Speaker 3 (15:13):
Oh yeah, that's right. And Chris Beard they were seven
and a half point dogs in that one.

Speaker 1 (15:18):
Well at least you covered, man, that's good. That will
help the committee. Hey, how do the TEXTA do against
the spread this year? Oh? They're like, you know, seven
and two?

Speaker 3 (15:26):
Yeah, they're smart.

Speaker 1 (15:29):
Do you think they look at odds in the kin
of the committee room?

Speaker 3 (15:31):
They should?

Speaker 1 (15:34):
Man, Ross Vegas has a lot of power over sports.
I mean it always has, but it feels like it's
in the last ten years now that all the sports
networks have said, yeah, we'll put the odds up there
and numbers and what it is. It's incredible because you know,
when you first, when I first got in this business,
you barely rarely mentioned points, spread and stuff because it
was like, oh, that's taboo, that's that's not how you
break it game down. Nobody cares about that. But now

(15:55):
everybody cares about it.

Speaker 3 (15:57):
Yeah, it's everywhere. It's on ESPN anywhere you even look
for if you just go somewhere to look up the
games coming up, do you as it's spread on it?

Speaker 1 (16:04):
And even in the middle of like pregame shows they'll
have like fantasy experts on They'll say, yeah, I will
take plus four and a half or I'll take this.
I mean, like they asked Charles Barclay and Kenny Smith
on the NBA broadcast, you know how many rebounds is
Nicola Yokic you're gonna get tonight? Do you like over
thirteen and a half or under. I mean everything at
this point is when it comes down to there's some

(16:27):
sort of betting. Because these sports networks, these fan duels,
these price picks, these I mean all of them, they're
spending so much money on television advertising that that part
of what they want in return is they want in
game features. Yes, and frankly, all the TV all these

(16:47):
all these sports leagues who were so afraid of using
gambling because they were afraid of it was gonna affect
game results.

Speaker 3 (16:53):
They're like, no, we're good, and they took the money.

Speaker 1 (16:55):
Fact. Yeah, In fact, the NBA is like, wa, we
want you to go gamble on our sports. We think
it's cool. Well, if Kiosk inside Arenas do it on
your phone, we got zero problem with it. Now, of
course you don't want any players or employees are betting
on it, But other than that, you're feel free to
knock yourself out.

Speaker 3 (17:09):
Yeah, it's a bit oversaturated these days. It's just a
little much. Make sure you sign up for Draft Kings
Pick six. The crown is yours.

Speaker 1 (17:18):
M It felt very very inorganic.

Speaker 3 (17:22):
Use code nine eight seven kind of code.

Speaker 1 (17:25):
Is that, by the way, we could with Draft Kings
pick six.

Speaker 3 (17:28):
The crown is yours. Yeah, Teresa gets code buzz Kiati
gets code h Town, I get code nine eight seven.

Speaker 1 (17:35):
You should get Pablo Escobar.

Speaker 3 (17:37):
That's a little wordy and what does that even mean?
I'm not from Columbia, but people have confused you for
looking from Colombia.

Speaker 1 (17:43):
No I dressed up.

Speaker 3 (17:45):
I guess when I was in Colombia, people thought I
was Colombian. They thought I was from Carthagena, which is
on the coast.

Speaker 1 (17:51):
I don't even know what that is, but south.

Speaker 3 (17:52):
It's on the coast, was it? And they thought I
was like Costano, Oh my god, because of my dark skin.

Speaker 1 (18:03):
All right, what would be what would be your perfect
win to be? Oh? Use the promo code needs to
apologize to Matt more often for what just in general? Mmmm,
guess my sports takes are so much better and most
and you know you never give me credit for the
ones that they hit m M like I am. I
am waiting for the exact moment that Alex Bragman signs

(18:25):
is less than seven year deal.

Speaker 3 (18:27):
That could happen.

Speaker 1 (18:27):
Now he's got to be pissed, right, I mean, come on,
there's no way he'd be wanting to wait till February
first and not know where he's gonna play baseball.

Speaker 3 (18:38):
That's true.

Speaker 1 (18:39):
And how do you get pissed at Scott Morris you
left your old agent for him. M M.

Speaker 3 (18:46):
I'm waiting for that Ashton Jent hundred, I mean a
thousand yard rushing season you said was never coming.

Speaker 1 (18:51):
What is? What's his draft status gonna be? Is her
first round? Paying?

Speaker 3 (18:54):
People think he's a first round or Matt, I'm sorry
to tell you, you.

Speaker 1 (19:00):
Know, I might take the L on that one.

Speaker 3 (19:04):
I mean, if he's healthy, you're taking the L. You
do not draft somebody in the first round and not
play him. He's gonna play every day, and he's got
a bunch of carries.

Speaker 1 (19:11):
What is a thousand about it by seventeen is.

Speaker 3 (19:13):
That you don't even want to know. It's probably it's
like fifty five or something.

Speaker 1 (19:17):
Oh god, all right, that's that's that's not some of
my best work. I'll full all right, I got it.

Speaker 3 (19:22):
Fifty eight point eight.

Speaker 1 (19:24):
Oh, I'm taking the O. You know what, I'm not
going to apologize for that right now. I mean, the
only way I win is if he hurts himself.

Speaker 3 (19:32):
Matt every year for his career. You you need to
take Dell like injury in year one and it still
would have been a bad take.

Speaker 1 (19:42):
M all right, Well, what is his measurements? Again? I
don't normally ask another man of a man's measurements, but.

Speaker 3 (19:50):
I don't know if did you go to the Senior
Bowl the Lake. The Yahoo mock draft has him going
twelfth to the Cowboys. Some people's big boards have him
like top five, but because of their position, he won't
be drafted top five.

Speaker 1 (20:03):
Okay, I got you, all right? Seven one three two
one two five seven ninety seven one three two one
two five seven nine zero. I got a text from
one half of the Sean Salisbury Show today.

Speaker 3 (20:15):
Can I guess which half it is?

Speaker 6 (20:17):
Um?

Speaker 1 (20:19):
Yeah, go ahead and do it.

Speaker 3 (20:20):

Matt Thomas, Ross Viial It's a Matt Thomas Show with
Ross on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (22:31):
Ten, thirty three of the Matt Thomas Show with Ross.
I'm here in Memphis where it's raining. Houston. Apparently we're
getting some rain, if not now later today. We are
with you today until two o'clock Rockets basketball.

Speaker 3 (22:43):
And again if you're going to catch the game, it
is a later start time. Approximately about eight thirty five
eight forty will be a tip time from here in
Memphis Rockets going for the season sweep, and we'll be
on the air with the launch pad at eight o'clock.

Speaker 1 (22:58):
Who is hosting that? Is that? It's Dan? I hope,
I hope you're getting the night off.

Speaker 3 (23:01):
Yeah, it's actually it worked out. I hadn't been feeling
great and Dan wanted to swap, so it'll be Dan.

Speaker 1 (23:07):
So I'm watching, unfortunately on close caps in the press
conference with President Trump talking about what happened yesterday, and
I want to work at a second, he just dropped
a BS in the middle of a presidential media availability
because the close caption put BS on the screen.

Speaker 3 (23:25):
Hmmm, that is maybe it was uh mistype.

Speaker 1 (23:30):
I don't think so, okay, unless somebody need the close
captioning Center is having a great time for some reason. Huh.
I have never seen it before. I didn't even know
you couldut.

Speaker 3 (23:44):
Swear worthy Twitter saying he said.

Speaker 1 (23:46):
It, huh all right. By the way, Dylan Brooks yesterday
got fined twenty five thousand dollars by the NBA for
dropping an mf or on the postgame show M when
he was talking about finally beating I guess I'm making
the mfor shot against the Celtics yeah, and I immediately

(24:07):
texted Vanessa Richardson and said, you need to venmo A
Dylan twelve dollars for your part of there in the conversation.

Speaker 3 (24:14):
Dylan can cover it.

Speaker 1 (24:15):
I Dili can cover it. All right, So back to
my point. So Lilima text me says, we took two
hours of Rockets conversation calls today. I'm like, that is great.
Let's go bost It is slowly, slowly coming around.

Speaker 3 (24:30):
A slow, steady climb, if you will.

Speaker 1 (24:32):
It's like my Twitter cap back in the day when
I care about the numbers.

Speaker 3 (24:35):
Yes, now you just block a bunch of legitimate folks
who come in DM me about it angrily and lately.

Speaker 1 (24:43):
No, I'm only I'm only legiting. I'm only blocking bots now.

Speaker 3 (24:48):
I got one a few weeks ago, so it's been
a couple of weeks.

Speaker 1 (24:50):
I'm proud of you. Okay, thank you very much.

Speaker 4 (24:53):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (24:54):
I still believe in order for us to get into
really legit every single day rocket chatter, it's gonna have
to be two things. One they're gonna have to make
some sort of massive trade at the deadline, which I
don't believe they're going to do. Or they're going to
win a playoff series, because it'll be cool to have
a playoff series just to talk about because it's you know,
we haven't had one in four years around these parts.

(25:14):
But it's gonna have to be a winning one to
really get the casual fan to come by in on this.
Hm uh.

Speaker 3 (25:24):
It might take more than that, but to get to
get it really rolling. But yeah, the interest level will
go up when they're the playoffs for sure.

Speaker 1 (25:30):
Okay, so I want you to my memory is sketchy
on a lot of things. So in twenty fifteen when
the Astros won the wild card m hm, remember they
went to the go play the Yankees at Yankee Stadium
and Dallas. Kiko threw nothing but goose eggs at the Yankees.
That's kind of the that's to me is where we
are with this team when they get the playoffs. I

(25:51):
want to say there was some good buzz about that.
Remember that was the car City year. That was when
the Astros are hitting either home or they're striking back.

Speaker 3 (25:58):
That's when we retired deal books obligatory Astros call.

Speaker 1 (26:02):
Yeah, so that wasn't a championship year. That was a
year they lost to the Royals in the playoffs. They
didn't advance the Alcs, but they at least got the
division around. There was good buzz for the Astros and
then you took a year off. They went, they dropped
a little bit twenty sixteen before coming back into the
playoffs in twenty seventeen and then obviously going to make

(26:23):
the winning the World Series.

Speaker 3 (26:24):
Yeah, and so when they were knocking on the door
before they went to go kick it down, that's very
bum phillips.

Speaker 1 (26:31):
Have you there?

Speaker 3 (26:31):
Yeah, sometimes you don't kick the door down. You just
go to New Orleans and hang out with ear old Campbell.

Speaker 1 (26:36):
And can't stay. But don't forget about that either.

Speaker 3 (26:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (26:40):
But the point is is that do you see any
similarities to what this could be here and with the
rockets that we've had back in twenty fifteen, or am
I just trying to grasp a local.

Speaker 3 (26:50):
We had a similarity in a way that it's a young,
up and coming team with some young pieces, with some
veteran guys who can go and make some noise, who
aren't going to be championship favorites. But it's about sustaining it.
It's about getting better. It's about I mean to me, Also,
there's less luck factor involved in basketball seven game series

(27:11):
than a baseball seven game series, just because of the
natures of the games. Then me tell you, like, the
Astros are better than the Nationals in nineteen, but they
weren't better to me, and than the Dodgers in seventeen,
but they won.

Speaker 1 (27:25):
It's almost like the underdogs have a much more difficult
time winning a series in basketball anything else. In football
or in college basketball at the NCAA tournament, it only
takes one good day right in the end. In baseball,
you could run through some hot pictures on a picture
that's off. I remember in baseball playoffs, you see the
rotations are first of all, I minimized because you don't

(27:47):
have as many games. Second of all, you have managers
that will go to the bullpen a lot faster. There's
less room for air with a starter than in a
regular season game than there would be in a postseason game.
But in basketball, the game itself is close to do
a regular season game than anything else. Now, the games
in the playoffs can sometimes go to more half court.
They can slow down, the referees can swallow whistles maybe

(28:08):
a little bit more than they would in a playoff game.
They wouldn't a regular season game, but generally speaking, the
best team does win out, So uh yeah. I again,
I'm gonna try to put a parallel to it, but
I want and I continue. I'm very encourage that Brian
said that to me, and you guys know that with
us being the home of the Rockets and me being
announcer for the team, I would love to talk about it.
So you got a fair game here on this and

(28:30):
what you like to see, what you don't like, to
see what intrigues you about it. Should the Rockets make
a big trade, should they stand pat All the above
is certainly a fair game. Speaking of the NBA, Adam
Silver went on the Dan Patrick Show yesterday. Did you
hear what he had to say?

Speaker 4 (28:46):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (28:46):
My god, I did.

Speaker 1 (28:50):
I was a big Adam Silver fan when he first
got the job because I thought that David Stern was
super cranky towards the end. And I don't know if
he's just trying to be uber correct on Hey, our
game is awesome and we love things and I don't

(29:12):
really care if people don't like the game. I just
got a big fat television contract for the next ten years.
I'm good to go. Suck it. My buildings are full,
my stadium rights are good, and the owners love me.
Because again, these commissioners are these respective sports. They they
work for thirty people. They don't work for the millions
of fans. They work for the thirty people that own
these NBA teams. So Dan Patrick like, anytime you would

(29:35):
have a commissioner, I would say, what are you looking
to change the game? What do you want to do
to change the game? And he suggested that maybe the
NBA game goes shorter from forty eight minutes to forty
because that's they're trying to sync it with college basketball
and the international game, and that they that the fans
would be more inclined to be in and out of

(29:56):
a building in two hours as compared to where it's
now it's about two hours in five fifteen, two hours
and twenty minutes.

Speaker 3 (30:01):
Yeah, let's hear from Adam Silver himself. Here's what he
had to say.

Speaker 7 (30:04):
The NBA is the only league that plays forty eight minutes,
and I would be I am a fan of four
ten minute quarters. I'm not sure that many others are.
I mean, putting inside what it means for records and
things like that. I think that a two hour format
for a game is more consistent sort of modern television habits.

(30:25):
I don't think people in arenas aren't asking us to
shorten the game, but I think as a television program
being two hours, that's Olympic basketball, it's being too is
two hours? You know college basketball of courses.

Speaker 3 (30:38):
Two hours.

Speaker 1 (30:41):
Ross first blush reaction when you heard that was what
shutjaubumass up. His thought was we're done in two hours.
His thought was it more it's synonymous with the international game,

(31:02):
which who nobody cares, and I'd say it's how feeble
runs their game. They just don't. But third was maybe
that would help with load management, that more guys would
play more games that didn't have to worry about playing
forty eight is compared to playing in a forty minute game.

Speaker 3 (31:16):
I think you would just see guys. You'd see bench
players get squeezed, certainly in the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (31:24):
My thought is this, you are paying these athletes to
be on the court to play, and you're going to
suck away minutes of play where timeouts can be called.
That's going to take away commercial inventory. You're going to
take out eight minutes of game action per game where

(31:45):
that means that a one less beer, or one less
hot dog, or one less box of popcorn is sold.
That's going to hurt them, the owners in the pocketbooks.

Speaker 3 (31:55):
Yeah, I think this is a compromise. I don't think
Adams silver stupid. There's a reason why he's coming up
for And to me, the first thing that kind of
came in my mind was we all talk about how
eighty two games is too many. Well, guess what the
owners want eighty two games because that's eighty two opportunities
for them all to sell tickets. So you're not getting
rid of games. So what's the other solution? A creative

(32:17):
solution to that is making fewer minutes in the game.
So I see where he's coming from and why he
did this to me, because we've all talked about eighty
two games being too much, and the owners ain't given
the giving up those gate receipts.

Speaker 1 (32:29):
They're just not So will they give a eight minutes though,
that's the question?

Speaker 3 (32:33):
No, that would be that'd be all It hit them
a lot worse. I mean hit them a lot.

Speaker 1 (32:36):
Less, right, I Mean it's not the it's not the
most preposterous thing I've heard of, but I still think
you're still taking away a great source of revident. And
by the way, if you really want to get the
games unintended done in two hours, start the game as
you say at the start time. Like for a seven
o'clock game, we start a game at seven to ten.

(32:58):
The reason for that.

Speaker 3 (33:00):
Advertising NFL starts on time.

Speaker 1 (33:03):
Usually college basketball games on ESPN Plus, we start games
at seven o'clock at seven oh two.

Speaker 3 (33:08):
You've been there in the press box, Matt for the
first pitch. They announce it in the press box. First pitch,
it's usually like seven to eleven or seven to twelve.
For a seven to ten game, it's like one or
two minutes max.

Speaker 1 (33:16):
Yeah, but they also do the seven to ten stuff
because they want to put the aver The broadcast starts
at seven o'clock. If you really want to get people
out of the building in two hours, you start the
game at seven oh two. But they don't want to
do that. They because they the TV networks and the
TV locals and the nationals. They want to do their
stand up, they want to do their graphics, and they
also want to put five sponsors on there. I don't

(33:38):
think you can have it both ways. I don't think
you can continue to tell the television networks we need
more money from you, and then take away Avenue so
them to make money.

Speaker 3 (33:47):
Yeah. So there's a couple of reasons for Adam Silver
to do this. He's doing this because we're going to
talk about on a show, and we're going to get
reactions from people. So it's kind of like a what
do they call that, not a screen test but a
focus group?

Speaker 1 (34:00):
Yep, yep, that's right.

Speaker 3 (34:02):
Sorry, I'm coughing. It's like we're all a focus group.
And then also, what happens to an idea of change
When somebody, let's say, Matt, your wife comes to you
and says, hey, I want a new car. You probably
don't get a new car the first time she says it, right, correct,
It's the third or fourth or fifth time she brings
it up.

Speaker 1 (34:21):
Well, in my case, the second time.

Speaker 3 (34:23):
Well that's because you cave easy. Yeah, but you get
One of My point though, is that Adam Silver is
is a possibly floating this just to get it in
everybody's head. And b if this is something he brings
up a couple times for years and years, it's like
Roger Gondell bringing up the eighteen game. Schedule recently. It's
not gonna happen immediately. They're gonna soft sell it, they're
gonna put it in your mind, and then it's gonna happen.

(34:45):
And then that type of change, it goes over a
lot easier from everybody when they've heard it a few times.

Speaker 1 (34:51):
Yep, ten forty six Sports Talk seven onety Does that change?
I don't think it, generally speaking, changes the fans like
to go, oh, I want to go see more games.
It might hurt those that pay the prices for forty
eight to get forty we'll discuss that next seven one three,
two one, two five seven outs of the word right

of dollars on and that's not cooling properly, or that

two eight one seven five eight nine nine seven eight
or online at Uptown Appliance Repair dot com.

Speaker 2 (36:04):
Matti Ross return return on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (36:12):
Ten fifty two on Sports Talk seven ninety I think
the equivalent in somebody on Twitter just brought this up
a second ago, to shrinking a forty eight minute game
to a forty game. Dylan Edge says, that's like taking
a nine inning baseball game and putting it to seven.
Do you people with people in baseball would flip the
f Outross if that happened.

Speaker 3 (36:33):
It was discussed, not discussed, but it wasn't.

Speaker 1 (36:36):
It kind of thrown out there.

Speaker 3 (36:38):
Throw it floated if you will.

Speaker 1 (36:42):
Yeah, usually float has a little lakes to when something
throws something up, usually against the wall.

Speaker 3 (36:46):
To splats, like a pitchclock. Pitchclock was kind of soft
sold and then it came to pass. But the difference
is that it doesn't organically change the rules of the swell.

Speaker 1 (36:56):
How do you say this? I know there's a difference
between a pitch clock and a philosophical approach to the
game itself. I equate it to a seven in game
is what is what the NBA is trying to do,
shrinking it from forty eight to forty.

Speaker 3 (37:15):
I you can go football and say they're making it
twelve minute quarters.

Speaker 1 (37:22):
Yeah, the overtime is ten.

Speaker 3 (37:24):
Yeah they shortly. They did shorten the overtime, but that's
just an extra period. Yeah right, I still needs to
go to the elam ending and in the in overtime
first team to eleven something like that.

Speaker 1 (37:36):
Oh my god, we never we'd never leave the stadium. No.
I you know, the thing that's also been floated for
baseball is going to reduce it to one fifty four.
But that's again, you're we have to understand something. They're
never going these owners are never going to agree something
that takes away gate opportunity to sell more tickets, more suites,
more television and revenue. And again, if you do ten,

(37:58):
you'd still have your two quarter time two in quarter timeouts,
so you'd still get your advertising again. But they also
do sell advertising for those bonus extra old timeouts, and
you don't, you wouldn't have nearly as many of those
to get into.

Speaker 3 (38:12):
Now, then you up there, You know what you do.
You just up the price of the ones you have.
If you're losing twenty percent of your your revenue, then
you up the prices of the spots one hundred and
twenty percent.

Speaker 1 (38:22):
So you say, basically, now there's fewer of them you
want to get in while they're getting rightod basically Okay, again,
I think you're absolutely onto something on this. I think
it's just him just trying to fold something out there
just to see what kind of buzzy would get mm hmm.
But silver doesn't come across to me as a guy
like he was talking yesterday about, well, they have made

(38:43):
some changes. They have the nd season tournament, they have
the playing game.

Speaker 3 (38:46):
I remember that was to how long was it in
season tournament talked about before? It came about a couple of.

Speaker 1 (38:50):
Years, five or six years. Yeah, for sure. And I
remember every year going to the NBA League meetings, They're like, Hey,
we're gonna we're gonna have this nd season tournament and
you're not gonna understand it, but you're gonna like it
once we have it. And it's okay.

Speaker 3 (39:02):
But the final who won this year?

Speaker 1 (39:04):
But for me, uh, it was uh Oklahoma City.

Speaker 3 (39:09):
I think you're right, but I couldn't think of it
for a second either. I know who? I remember the
Lakers winning the first one.

Speaker 1 (39:16):
Well, I'll how about this one. Who did Oklahoma City play?
It was a really good team, Yes, the Celtics, Milwaukee,
Milwaukee se Yeah, it was a green team from the East.
And the only reason why I know this because one
of their announcers a friend of mine. I agree seeing
him that's it. But I wouldn't if I didn't go.
Do you think I would?

Speaker 3 (39:35):
When I asked you who won? I didn't. I was
I didn't know, and I even I couldn't remember the
city one.

Speaker 1 (39:39):
Don't don't help me to that. Maybe Milwaukee one. I
don't know.

Speaker 3 (39:42):
Uh, yeah, Milwaukee one.

Speaker 1 (39:44):
See that, You're right? Yeah, the Lakers two years in. Well,
the thing of this is that what there is no
dramatic improvement to the sport because of something had happened
in November December.

Speaker 3 (39:58):
It's just there's just not Yeah, I I get another
fun one for you. Who did the Lakers beat in
year one Indiana? Yeah, that's correct, Rick Carlisle and the boys.

Speaker 1 (40:07):
Yeah, so I I you know, I do enjoy those. Hey,
what can we do to fix things? Conversations? I'm okay
with that. I think the three point line probably is
going to be in question, maybe a little bit.

Speaker 3 (40:20):
What do you mean moving it closer? No, moving it
further out, further out? Yeah, we can't go any further
out on the corner. So I just said at the
top right. Interesting, But you.

Speaker 1 (40:32):
Don't even know. One thing is that every time Silver does
one of these radio TV interviews, that's it's always brought up,
is what do you do to change your sport? Maybe
he just does it just to keep everybody just guessing.
At the end of the day, he just not doesn't
want to change anything because there's not much a change.
They gotta do something, though.

Speaker 3 (40:46):
Ratings have been pretty bad, although I think they're picking
up lately.

Speaker 1 (40:50):
But as you say that, though Ross and I don't
disagree with you, why does silver care? He just got
a ridiculously new, big television deal for a decade with
two new telelevision partners.

Speaker 3 (41:00):
That's true.

Speaker 1 (41:01):
Why does he really? Why does he care? That money
is already guaranteed. It's not it's not incumbent on You
have to get this many households to watch your sport
for us to collect the check. It's done. And then
number one thing he continues to say, which I don't
really particularly in the US, don't care, But he says
worldwide growth is amazing. Well, I don't. I don't particularly
care of China and Turkey and Portugal of the NBA.

(41:23):
I want my I want my good NBA here in
the United States. Mmmm.

Speaker 3 (41:27):
If you made as much money as you can in America,
how you get You gotta get those revenues up, mat
If you're commission numbers go up, up, up up. If
they're not going up, you're out. Okay, that's all these leagues.

Speaker 1 (41:37):
All right half hour from now. I just don't get it.
That's where we do a segment once a week where
we basically just ask ourselves a question, Well don't you
get seven one three, two, one two five seven nineties?

future face of the Rockets organization, if not already now?

Speaker 3 (43:09):
A Most Improved Player award?

Speaker 1 (43:12):
Do you want that or do you like? Man? Does
that mean I sucked the previous year?

Speaker 3 (43:20):
Kind of? But if you're young, if you're twenty two,
you're just turning twenty two, it's fine.

Speaker 1 (43:24):
Yeah, yeah, I'm in for that. The most improved player
in the NBA this year is a Men Thompson.

one three two one two five seven Aunty Ross. Unfortunately,
there's a lot of d bags in media, and we're
not one of them. We were a lot of things,
we're not d bags and one of them happened to
be uh John Hammon, we saw firsthand what a douche

(43:55):
he was by portraying the Astros in a different light
than what we saw when we saw at first hand.
But he is connected, say what you will, he is connected,
and he provided the folks on the MLB network this
morning an update on Alexman and we'll play it for
you in just a way.

Speaker 3 (44:15):
Should we begin the Bregmant update first?

Speaker 4 (44:17):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (44:17):
You know what? That's right?

Speaker 3 (44:19):
Come on, man, I took a day off.

Speaker 1 (44:20):
What am I supposed to do? When are we gonna
get an O C update as well? By the way,
do we have an O C update?

Speaker 3 (44:26):
No, I'm the same. We can get one made.

Speaker 1 (44:27):
We need maybe hired by then we just you know,
we can do. We just played just another update, so
we have that as a standby. But let's get you
first an Alex Pregmant update.

Speaker 3 (44:40):
I think Connor's on the on the phone.

Speaker 1 (44:41):
It's not as far.

Speaker 3 (44:42):
Oh okay, Ross, how you feeling?

Speaker 1 (44:47):
Ross? Show that's never going away? Much dis chagrin of
s all right, ask promised. Here's John Hayman. I'm the
latest on the astros former third Basement.

Speaker 8 (45:10):
If you got to choose one team that will eventually
get Bragman. What team would that be? Maybe I would
say Houston. We know kind of where they've at least
on a starting point. It sinks for one fifty six.
I'm gonna say them, but I know there is an
alert of the Cubs. We just saw his great friend
Ryan Presley leave the Astros to go to the Cubs.
There are two Astros now on the Cubs. I mean,
the Cubs are an interesting team. They're a fun team.

(45:32):
You know, got Tucker now on right field. You've got
Presley now is the closer That may be an extra
alert for Bragman. I know that he and Presley were close.
Maybe the Cubs could could come in there. So I'm
gonna say one of those two teams. I think I
tweeted that a week ago that Houston and the Cubs
were certainly big players in on Bragman. But I don't
know that we're close at this moment, you know, I mean,

(45:54):
one of these other teams is gonna have to step up.
And if they do, if they step up and go
to that sixth year or seventh year, uh, the Cubs
Red Sox, uh, they might be able to them because
we all know where the astros are and that wasn't
good enough. But if I had to pick one team today,
just guess I might guess the ass.

Speaker 1 (46:13):
Ross is John Hayman need a breathing instrument to help
him a little bit, My guys reaths.

Speaker 3 (46:19):
Yeah, I don't know. Is he a heavy smoker? He said,
but he just he sounds like us. Let's get him
on the show.

Speaker 1 (46:26):
Yeah, I mean, seriously, if you're sick, join us at
seven one three two one two five seven ninety. Let's go.
I think it's gonna be breakman. You know, he could
be a Cubs hold on, you're looking at Hailer or something.
He's such an unlikable guy, so I hope he's feeling better.

Speaker 3 (46:51):
Well, at least he hasn't vowed to never come on
this show again like he has others.

Speaker 1 (46:54):
Yeah. Boy, he got cranky in the New York radio show,
did he not? Who man?

Speaker 9 (46:59):
The guy?

Speaker 3 (47:00):
What do you bring up? The arts and judge tweet?

Speaker 1 (47:02):
Yes, I am a respected baseball journalist. People love me.
Does have a lot of.

Speaker 3 (47:09):
Fun, People love your typos. I haven't muted because he
got too many things wrong.

Speaker 1 (47:14):
Yeah, he's not Bob Knighting yet wrong, but he's he's wrong?
Is he getting there?

Speaker 3 (47:20):
I don't know who knows?

Speaker 1 (47:22):
And then Jeff Passing Yester the other day, I don't
know if it was yesterday, the day before. It's like,
why are the Yankees in getting involved? They need a
third baseman?

Speaker 3 (47:31):
Shut up Jeff Passing. So I mean, maybe it's maybe
they're coming back to Houston. I don't know.

Speaker 1 (47:36):
Maybe maybe Jeff Passing and uh and John Hayman are
just shills for big market teams.

Speaker 3 (47:43):
Uh, maybe there are shills for Matt Morris.

Speaker 1 (47:46):
I was thinking the exact same thing as soon as
I said that.

Speaker 3 (47:49):
You know who it Behooves that can leak out that
the Astros are re engaged and interested Scott Morris and
Alex Bregman. You know who said that they have not
re engaged with Scott Boris and Alex Bregman. Dana Brown.

Speaker 1 (48:05):
Wow, do you hear that, Houston, that this is this
is saying you don't have to say it. We can
just expect, you know, we can treat it as fact.
Do I think the Astros have closed the door on Bregman? No,
put her nain't wide open.

Speaker 3 (48:21):
Dana Brown said himself the doors. It's not open. It's cracked.

Speaker 1 (48:27):
Yeah, it's like, come on, girl, you want to come
in and snuggle at two thirty. It's fine, but I'm
not gonna leave the door open for you. Mm hmm.
I mean it's it's after three am. Love, I'm going
I'm there, but beforehand, I'm gonna I'm gonna go sleep.

Speaker 3 (48:42):
Now, I'll say I thought the same thing last year
when it was the Josh haters stuff, and that happened,
and Jim Crane went into the tax yep for the
first time in a non COVID year where they didn't
have to They could go to tax but not have
to pay a tax, right.

Speaker 1 (48:57):
I mean, this isn't everything come down at the end,
at the end of the day when it comes to
significant free agent signings of any sports team, much whether
it's the Astros or that is what the owner wants.
If the owner's gotta, you know, got a little loving
for a particular player, like bringing back Verlander last year.
The Mets paid a lot of that cap. But obviously

(49:20):
Jim Crane has has strong affinity for Justin Verlander. I thought.

Speaker 3 (49:23):
On Saturday, Dana Brown said all the discussions were internal
and he owes boris a call.

Speaker 1 (49:29):
Yeah, that's exactly what he said.

Speaker 3 (49:31):
Okay, And didn't he say that of the Presley thing?

Speaker 1 (49:35):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (49:38):
Okay, I guess maybe I'm misinterpreted.

Speaker 1 (49:40):
I don't know. No, I mean, when you owe the
most powerful sports agent a call, I mean, first of all,
I wouldn't tell anybody that's said four hours here's the
thing from the uh from the Presley.

Speaker 3 (49:53):
Let me just play this real quick.

Speaker 10 (49:55):
We've talked internally about you know, him still being available,
and so we are definitely having conversations within our front office.
We haven't reached back out the Borers.

Speaker 3 (50:09):
Yeah, that's what he said a couple of days ago.

Speaker 1 (50:11):
Right, mm hmm. The only way this thing really speeds
up from an Astra perspective is off if Jim Crane
goes to Day and says, all right, I thought about this.
We need him at third base for the next our
stable future. Maybe maybe maybe there is an maybe there
is an offer that we don't know about that's off
there out there on a shorter term deal one two,

(50:33):
three years running back baby, And then Bregmant's like, wait, Manue,
you offered me six one fifty six, Well that deal
is no longer available.

Speaker 3 (50:41):
Yesterday's price is not two day's price.

Speaker 1 (50:43):
Well, the thing of it is, Ross, we don't have
absolutely one hundred percent confirmation that sixty one fifty six
is still out there. We have confirmation that sixty one
fifty six was offered. Yeah, it was a report. I
thought somebody reported that that was the deal that they
were still sitting on. I don't know, but I mean
that could be. That could be changed by the hour.

Speaker 3 (50:58):
I feel like as the days go on, it feels
more likely that that Bregman could come back.

Speaker 1 (51:06):
The issue is do we have one hundred percent certainty
that six one fifty six is still on the table.
And if if it's on the table, ross with knowing
that the other deals have not come to a pass,
then why wouldn't Bregman take it? You know what I mean?

Speaker 3 (51:21):
Yeah, because six.

Speaker 1 (51:23):
One fifty six sounds like to me, that's the best
deal that's out there right now for Alex Bregmant. There
is no one seventy five, There is no two hundred.

Speaker 3 (51:36):
I don't know how to make Heather tails any of
this because he just keeps dragging on. It's almost February.

Speaker 1 (51:42):
There's no way that's when Scott Borris signed Alex Pregnant
as a client. He said, man, we're gonna get this
this way. By the way, getting referenced John Hayman sounds
like RFQ junior. Huh, think of it that way.

Speaker 3 (51:58):
And doesn't he have some sort of ailment or something
with his voice?

Speaker 1 (52:01):
Case sound sounded rough yesterday. You don't want to argue
with rfkks. You just gonna you can just out scream him. Hmmm.

Speaker 3 (52:11):
He never wins. The shouting matches what you're saying.

Speaker 1 (52:12):
Oh, he doesn't, he does that at all. That's funny,
all right. Seven one three two one two five seven ninety.
If you want to join us on the radio show
today seven one three two one two five seven nine zero.
If you're joining us on Twitter, you may join us
there at Sports Empt, at Sports RV, and at Connornie mcgomn.
Somebody' knocking on my door. You know it's four Ross.
You don't even know, do you room service? No, it's

(52:35):
a new remote control. My remote control's not working.

Speaker 3 (52:37):
Yeah, I could see that. I could see you having
issues of breaking stuff.

Speaker 1 (52:40):
Oh that's not nice. Eleven twelve. It's a Matt Thomas
Shold Ross coming back and join us here. On Sports
Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (52:46):
The Mat TAAs Show with Ross continues. So on Sports
Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (52:57):
All right, it is eleven sixteen. We've got I just
don't get it coming up at the bottom of the hour.
Rockets here in the Mid South taking on the Memphis Grizzlies.
Eight supposed to start at eight thirty five, and there
could be a slide depending on how the other first
game goes and the doubleheader tonight on TNT.

Speaker 3 (53:16):
Uh sliding, how often does it feel like it slides?
About seventy five percent of the time.

Speaker 1 (53:20):
Seventy five percent of the time it slides, cause you
know every time you go to that sixty second time out,
they take ninety seconds a commercial time.

Speaker 3 (53:27):
Ross, bring your toboggan, Matthew.

Speaker 1 (53:32):
I mean late night getting home? Lordy? Good luck? Yeah?
All right? Uh seven one three two one two five
seven On If y'all are trying to call Connor, don't
have an hour long conversation with him? Man, have we call?
It's trying to commence like Connor's got his own show
going on back there.

Speaker 3 (53:48):
I think they're having him look up stuff for something.
Is it a time for a Google MT second here's.

Speaker 1 (53:52):
How it works. You call the show, Hey, I want
to talk to Matt Ross. We don't bite, we want
to talk to you. Don't have three minute conversations with Connor.
He's gonna ask you were you, who you are, what
part of town you live in, and the topic.

Speaker 3 (54:06):
Maybe he's like an information line. I don't know what's happening.

Speaker 1 (54:08):
Maybe he's trying to steal our callers from our own show.

Speaker 3 (54:11):
Hmmm, Oh you think he's he's hosting a podcast back there.

Speaker 1 (54:15):
He's got his own show with it. It's a show
within a show.

Speaker 3 (54:17):
Hi, you've reached the Connor McGovern show. How's it going?
And then he's he's just rolling on it.

Speaker 1 (54:21):
No, here's how it works. Seven. How don't you want
to talk to Matt Ross?

Speaker 11 (54:24):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (54:24):
I do, but you probably have a better time talking
to men.

Speaker 3 (54:27):
I can see him giving heavy eye rolls. I don't
think he wants to be in this conversation.

Speaker 1 (54:31):
No, all right, I'm just embellishing. I know.

Speaker 5 (54:34):
Sorry the caller, Uh, he won tickets and he didn't
get the email.

Speaker 3 (54:38):
So, oh, is that the guy that's beefing with you?

Speaker 1 (54:40):
Guys?

Speaker 3 (54:41):
Oh, we had a guy beefing with us yesterday on checho.
But all right, nobody got time for that because the
prize winners are we have to get their Social Security
number for tax purposes.

Speaker 1 (54:52):
So he's like, I don't want to do that. Yeah,
well guess what if you don't play by our rules,
you can't play. That's what I said.

Speaker 3 (54:59):
It's such as yeah, god, And then he called my
questions terrible. We did have three winners yesterday? Am my bad?

Speaker 1 (55:06):
What was the topic.

Speaker 3 (55:07):
Oh, I'm sorry the two days ago?

Speaker 1 (55:09):
Yeah? Oh yeah, well are we had of prizes? Is
a prize vault? Back to opening up again?

Speaker 2 (55:13):
No?

Speaker 5 (55:14):
Well, I asked you if I got to email somebody
because we gave away all.

Speaker 1 (55:17):
The Yeah, yeah, we gotta.

Speaker 3 (55:20):
Let's take it off.

Speaker 1 (55:21):
So we got nothing the prize ball.

Speaker 3 (55:23):
I don't have the energy, Matt. I was coughing all
through the night, couldn't sleep. Let's pass all right.

Speaker 1 (55:29):
You know what if you want to call in sick
for later or not, I can I can live with that. Yes,
we can revisit tomorrow and we'll see what's So go
ahead and send send the email for some prize ball.
I mean, my guess is going to be plenty more
seven eight T shirts and those squeezy. Uh stress relief balls.

Speaker 3 (55:46):
We're low on those two by the way.

Speaker 1 (55:50):
All right? Uh seven one three two one two five
seven ninety. We're just trying to get through the show.
Oh man, this is where you get. You guys can
really take advantage of us. Ross and I are vulnerable today.

(56:12):
If you ever want to complain about how awful Ross's
treats University of Houston, today would be the day to
do that. Especially knocked off West Virginia last night.

Speaker 3 (56:20):
I said they're one of those. I said there should
be locked in as a one seed. How's that hating them?

Speaker 1 (56:25):
You know I'm gonna start calling you cougar Ross?

Speaker 3 (56:29):
Uh, yeah, you know what. I am a big fan
of cougars.

Speaker 1 (56:34):
I know you are my favorite cougar of all time.
Of course would be else. I'm a high exk move
up the list a little bit.

Speaker 3 (56:45):
Uh, prime cougar. Raquel welch, Oh.

Speaker 1 (56:47):
Raquel, welch. Back about Ann Margaret, back way back in
the day. Sophia Agar is the Hall of Famer in
terms of right.

Speaker 3 (56:57):
Wait a minute, is this a fantasy?

Speaker 1 (56:59):
Vive mhm, We've already done this before.

Speaker 3 (57:02):
I think you're right. I think Selvia verguard did was
a I don't remember who had her, but I think
she was on the winning team.

Speaker 1 (57:08):
Let me tell you about let me tell you about
the Fantasy Five. No matter what the category is, like
best foods to eat in Hawaii, if you went Sylvia Vagary,
it would still be the number one winner on that
every category. What's your favorite song of Elton John's the
one that Sylvia Vagar was in the background she went
down contest, say that one more time.

Speaker 3 (57:29):
You've got my vote.

Speaker 1 (57:31):
I know, I know Sophia is an alzheimer Samahayak. Even
what's her face? From my cousin Vinnie some new photos
of her showing up that it looked good. Demi Moore
looks fantastic for her age.

Speaker 3 (57:44):
Yeah, she's looking good. Older, you know, ross older is
sometimes not a lot of work done, A lot of
work done.

Speaker 1 (57:52):
Who's not getting work done?

Speaker 4 (57:56):
Me?

Speaker 1 (57:56):
Think about I'm thinking about getting some work done this summer.

Speaker 3 (57:59):
Yeah, then eyebrows stop. I'm just kidding, Harold. I don't
even know what tribros look like.

Speaker 1 (58:05):
I hate you. Let's go to Tim and Katie at
eleven twenty one on Sports Talk seventy. Tim, Good morning,
take advantage of two guys that are a little under
the weather. Tim, what's going on, Hey.

Speaker 12 (58:17):
Matt, I'd just like to talk about how the Rockets
are are finally getting some national media play. I was
listening to NBA Today yesterday and it was all about
the Rockets. They were talking them in Thompson. They were
talking about how guys play together. So I would I
would just like to see what you guys think if
it's about time and if there's any way that the

(58:40):
Rockets will start to be kind of the darling team
of the West.

Speaker 1 (58:43):
Thanks, thank you. A lot of it. Frankly, to me,
Ross is how many times they're seen on television across
the country. Oklahoma City is getting a lot more run nationally.
They were on the late game on ESPN last night.
I don't know how many people watched it, but Okase
is made more national TV games. The Rockets are gonna
be a national TV tonight, but that's the only game

(59:05):
that's been Originally they were two TNT games scheduled this year.
What was the game against Sacramento and one was tonight
against Memphis. Other than that, there's been no additional games.
So how you become beloved is a winning but be
people seeing you and as great as we think the
Rockets are, and thirty two and fourteen is an amazing mark.
I would like to ask you if somebody in Chicago

(59:28):
could name five Houston Rockets, and the answer are probably no.

Speaker 3 (59:30):
Right, No, they're not going to be hull household names.
They won forty one games last year, so it'll take
some time.

Speaker 1 (59:36):
Yeah, but the only way you do it is if
you get if you get on national television like this Saturday,
is the is the Knicks versus the Lakers? I mean
I wouldn't. I'm not blaming ABC for putting them on.
I mean New York's first fall is good, Lakers have
the Lebron second greatest player of all time. Why wouldn't
you put those two huge marquee teams. I mean, you're

(59:57):
not putting on Washington versus Charlotte. Put it that way.
So if you're these TV networks, you're gonna play the
hits and the question is gonna be you know, not
that I never see the ratings of these national games,
but I mean, will Houston Memphis be able to draw
much of a national audience tonight at get eight thirty?

(01:00:17):
I mean I don't have the answer to that. I mean,
my gut tells me it's not gonna be a huge draw.
But you have to keep putting them out there, especially
if the tide of the NBA is changing, if Golden
State no longer is the sexy team, if the Lakers
are gonna be nothing but a five hundred team, you
might as well do yourself a little service and putting
on some teams that are actually gonna be deep in the playoffs.
Like last night the Warriors beat the thunder So even

(01:00:38):
when if you were to watch that game last night
and you were thinking, all right, this, I've heard this goal.
This Oklahoma City team is so awesome, well they got
They lost to a mid Warriors team last night.

Speaker 3 (01:00:48):
You know, Madam about to make another analogy.

Speaker 1 (01:00:50):
Uh oh, I like when you make analogy, you know.

Speaker 3 (01:00:52):
Matt, when you're making your investment portfolio. Yeah, you invest
a certain amount you want to diversify your portfolio. Correct. Yes,
the NBA is like ninety five percent all in on
Lebron James and Steph Curry. And while it's a good stock,
it's a stock that's not going to hang you get
you much of a high rate of return with those

(01:01:14):
guys in the It's not a good long term return
on those because those guys are going to be retiring
within the next couple of years, right, So you need
to get some more long term stocks in their portfolio.
Guys like the Shade Gildess Alexander's of the world, and
they've done a good job with you know, Joannis and
trying to build up Wimby and some of these other guys.
But they need to put more long term stocks into

(01:01:35):
their portfolio rather than investing in the safe here and
now Lebron and Steph Curry.

Speaker 1 (01:01:42):
God, I feel like I'm talking to ef Hutting here.

Speaker 3 (01:01:46):
Does it work?

Speaker 1 (01:01:48):
I like it?

Speaker 3 (01:01:49):
Okay, you know what, Ross, I totally get it. That's
what I'm talking about. Problem is, are you willing? Are
these TV networks willing to do that? Because as if
they if they.

Speaker 1 (01:02:01):
Say, all right, we're gonna make it a serious investment
in Houston and Oklahoma City and Denver and who's an
Eastern Conference team that would be of interest Cleveland, Cleveland,
and we don't get the return.

Speaker 3 (01:02:13):
We got to start paying back these advertisers because we're
not greating getting a certain number of rating points. Yeah,
it's riskier. It's riskier stock for sure.

Speaker 1 (01:02:22):
Yeah, but I'm in for it.

Speaker 3 (01:02:28):
Diversit portfolio NBA.

Speaker 1 (01:02:30):
Because honestly, I mean, does does the Lakers next to
you seem like must watch television on Saturday night for me?

Speaker 3 (01:02:35):
Honestly, I just don't think the Lakers are very good.

Speaker 1 (01:02:38):
Yeah, because I've seen them. I've seen them plenty of times.

Speaker 3 (01:02:42):
I mean, they're fine, They're in the fifth seed. I'm
still putting them down as frauds.

Speaker 1 (01:02:48):
Okay, well you were. You were first on that bandwagon,
I know.

Speaker 3 (01:02:50):
And then they've won like eight of their last nine.

Speaker 1 (01:02:52):
Games seven one three two one two five seven one.
We've got some rocket calls to get to. We'll get
to those us. We'll get to I just don't get
it all. The next half hour it is The Matt
Thomas Show with Ross seven one three two one two
five seven ninety seven one three two one two five
seven ninety seven one three two one two five seven

(01:03:20):
ninety I just don't get it. Coming up in a
few minutes, We've got a couple of folks that want
to say hello, and we are here for you. Ross
is fighting pneumonia. I've got a cold. Seven one three
two one two five seven ninety Mark on The Matt
Thomas Show with Ross Mark. Good morning to.

Speaker 13 (01:03:34):
You, Gay, Good morning Matt.

Speaker 7 (01:03:36):
How you doing?

Speaker 4 (01:03:37):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (01:03:37):
Good friend. I just wanted to make a wanted to.

Speaker 13 (01:03:40):
Make a comment about, uh, you know, the rads are
down across the board for the whole NBA.

Speaker 1 (01:03:44):
Uh.

Speaker 13 (01:03:45):
I've seen a lot of podcasts and different uh you know,
different channels they're they were at statement, you know.

Speaker 9 (01:03:51):
Why why was it so?

Speaker 13 (01:03:53):
But there are a lot of different reasons, a lot
of people that one of the main reasons people were
just fatigued with the same mold, same old and uh uh.
And I watch the comments from the Boston side of perspective,
their their commentators. I think it was Brian's Calabrini to
call him the game for them, and those guys were

(01:04:13):
at all of Amon Thompson. I mean he he did
a play. Uh, he made a play and they were
and Brian's Calabrini he made a comments like what are
we watching right now? And you know, I just think
if if if the NBA was was smart and ready
to grow, you know, it's more stars, they would you know,

(01:04:34):
they wouldn't mind putting them on it because I think
once you see the Rockets play and the energy they
bring as leticism, that more people would tune in, you know,
for some new stars. But that was my comment here
that you know, it's ah, the casual fan don't know them.
But I think the people that are covered the NBA,
they they're noticing the Rockets for sure. But y'all have
a good good day, and uh, y'all be careful with

(01:04:55):
Nick Werrier.

Speaker 1 (01:04:56):
Thank you very much, appreciate it. Ross. The weather's not
good back home.

Speaker 3 (01:04:59):
Yes, it's been soupy for like ever.

Speaker 1 (01:05:04):
That's good.

Speaker 3 (01:05:05):
No, it's not. People don't know how to drive. People
don't know how to drive when it's regular. It's perfect
when it's seventy two and sunny and it gets so
what we did well.

Speaker 1 (01:05:14):
During the snow. Nobody went out on the streets.

Speaker 3 (01:05:15):
At least some people did.

Speaker 1 (01:05:16):
Chris Gordy said on his way and he's all four rex. Yeah,
because Chris Gordy is on a dangerous high school pairland folks. Yeah,
those parent pairlands different like passing in the north.

Speaker 3 (01:05:28):
You know it is, I guess so.

Speaker 1 (01:05:31):
Uh yeah, I mean, look, the national pundits are all
in on it. I mean for a team that doesn't
get a lot of exposure. The Rockets are getting that exposure,
and Thompson is gonna play in the Futures Game. People
are gonna have a chance to watch that a little bit.
I don't know if people are watching much of that
Saturday night event anymore. If Alpi gets into the All
Star Game, that would be a huge thing for him
to display his abilities. But ultimately, ultimately, in my mind,

(01:05:59):
it's gonna be putting them on national TV games seven
o'clock six point thirty, you know, and letting people that
are NBA fans sit and watch for a couple hours
because there is a lot of there's you know, for
a team that doesn't much a lot of well known players,
it's got a lot of personality to it. First of all,
Dylan Brooks is gonna fight you in the day of

(01:06:19):
the week. How about that grab of the back of
the head? Who did he grab the back of the
tray Young? I mean that's saying something ross when you
go to Trey Young and you grab the back of
his head.

Speaker 3 (01:06:30):
I was kind of like, Trey Young's always been a
bleep talker, but I don't know that he's about that
action boss and Dylan Brooks is about that action boss.
So I was a little shocked he wouldn't bump him
like he did, and Dylan Brooks didn't swing on him.

Speaker 1 (01:06:44):
I mean a men hip tosses NBA players on hardwood floors. Yes,
I mean you got.

Speaker 3 (01:06:51):
Fred van Blidhu'll m few and in immate Donka will
scrape with you too.

Speaker 1 (01:06:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:06:55):
So you're saying in the NBA Royal Rumble, the Rockets
are the favorite.

Speaker 1 (01:06:59):
I'm telling you. If the Rockets were in the Royal
Rumble and you had him against a bunch of like
soft warriors the Rockets, it would be all the Rockets
and Draymond Green would be the last ones out there,
That's true, And Draymond would just sit in the back
corner and just wait for everybody else to beat each
other up. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:07:13):
Let's see Spurs are out winby gets broken in half
within five seconds.

Speaker 1 (01:07:17):
Oh, thunder could be tough, you know. Think Isaiah Hartenstein's going.
I mean he may scrape for a little bit, but
he'll make it.

Speaker 3 (01:07:24):
Yeah, Ched Holmgren checked he looks in the ring and
it gets it breaks the leg.

Speaker 1 (01:07:29):
Yeah yeah, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:07:29):
Lou Dowort's probably pretty tough.

Speaker 1 (01:07:31):
Kawhi. Leonard said he's gonna be in it, but you
will help out the very least questionable. Joel e bead
won't even be in the building.

Speaker 3 (01:07:38):
He's listed as down for you.

Speaker 1 (01:07:40):
Know, he's missed as many games as he's played.

Speaker 3 (01:07:42):
Wow, that's tough. I mean he he's so good, but
I mean he's just huge. Was he's like seven to two,
seven to or three, He's just it's greaty, it's these
big guys.

Speaker 1 (01:07:52):
Mat Christ shows this Joel.

Speaker 3 (01:07:55):
E Beid a bottom money.

Speaker 1 (01:07:56):
He's been paid for games. He's misses one hundred and
forty million dollars.

Speaker 3 (01:08:00):
Wow, he wants to be out there. He hates it
was only lit at his seven foot I thought he
was like, but.

Speaker 1 (01:08:07):
You know, funny, I've called a handful of games obviously
rockets only playing twice a year. When he plays, he's magnificent.
He's so good. But you know, as as a friend
once told me, attendance is part of.

Speaker 3 (01:08:20):
The grade, and well, his attendance is an f.

Speaker 1 (01:08:24):
Roger on seven ninety eleven thirty six Roger, good morning.

Speaker 14 (01:08:29):
Yeah, I'll be careful of all was doing both of
grabbing tree. Young's like, what like a headful of wet
pubiccare or something disgusting. Sorry anyway, Yeah, I think the
Rockets are really I mean, you were, you know how
about the Rockets. Even when they suck, I still thought,
you know, that they had some pieces and I was

(01:08:49):
kind of, you know, everybody's kind of like dogging Jalen,
so was I. But I just feel like, you know,
I'm glad that we stuck with him, and you know,
he's he's kind of like, you know, uh, well, they're
all like that. You know, they're all so closely knit together,
and you feel like if you trade one of them,
something's gonna happen the wrong way. I just feel like
you got to keep that glue together. And uh, I

(01:09:10):
think that the Rockets have something the other teams don't.

Speaker 7 (01:09:12):
You know.

Speaker 14 (01:09:13):
It's good to have that, that that veteran guide that's
gonna handle the rocke at the end of the at
the end.

Speaker 1 (01:09:17):
Of the game.

Speaker 14 (01:09:18):
But then again, that kind of takes away your element
of surprise, Like with this team, you don't know who's
gonna shoot the ball, who's gonna who's gonna have that
game winner, And that's really really good, a good advantage
to have, especially when everybody buys in with the with
the rushing everybody off the three point line and just
playing that that that dog defense man. I just leave
this thing alone and let it ride.

Speaker 1 (01:09:37):
Uh.

Speaker 14 (01:09:37):
Also, yeah, the national pundit sty they get think they're bandwagoners,
aren't they. They just oh my god, look at this record.
Let's just go and start talking about Hey, they've been
doing this for a while now. But that's all good.
You know, get our flowers eventually. But we'll definitely get
our flowers when we uh, you know, get get to
the prime time and go deeper little playoff runs. That's
when you need to earn your earn your flowers. So

(01:09:59):
I got the yeah thanks.

Speaker 1 (01:10:01):
Phone call, Yeah, thank you. Uh yeah. I wouldn't expect.
I mean, you can't go from sixty sixty sixty loss
seasons three in a row to forty one and forty
one expect the NBA to jump on your bandwagon right away.
I mean, it's gonna take time, especially because of the
reality of this. You have Nikola jokicch has won multiple MVPs.

(01:10:23):
You have Lebron James do in the league. You still
have Steph Curry. I mean, there are still plenty of
stars that are in this league that you're gonna put
above anybody else. We're in a Rocket uniform. I don't
I don't blame the NBA and how they schedule their
games because they need as many eyes on the games
as possible. But the good marketers, the good sports programmers,

(01:10:46):
are able to figure out a way to kind of
slide in those secondary teams and put them in good
spots so they become stars. And that's what makes good marketing,
right Ross. I mean, it's like it's like it's like
record companies or a production studios. Well, I mean for
for decades. Help help me out with somebody.

Speaker 3 (01:11:05):
What are you looking for a long term start?

Speaker 1 (01:11:07):
Bruno Mars is a successful performer and yeah, solo star,
but Bruno's gonna eventually run out of hits. It takes
another ear to hear and say, all right, this next
guy I want to put on the map our as
our next guy.

Speaker 3 (01:11:19):
Hmmm. And then you invest in the guy and you
get him on TV shows and you get him on
the guest appearance on Good Morning America or whatever.

Speaker 1 (01:11:28):
Right, that's exactly right. So that's what it's gonna take.
It's gonna be is are the Rockets sustainable enough to
put them on television and would people actually care about them.

Speaker 3 (01:11:38):
And also, just because you put something someone or something
in front of people doesn't mean they're going to take
to it necessarily. It gives you a better chance, but
there has to be a certain something, whether it be
I mean if we're talking about performers or charisma or whatever,
there's got to be something that the people like.

Speaker 1 (01:11:55):
Like a billion way tonight would be fun to see
Zach Edy throw hands with Dylan Brooks.

Speaker 3 (01:11:59):
I would like that. I don't know if American would,
but it feels like it feels like Zach Edie would fight.

Speaker 1 (01:12:08):
Zach Edy is seven three and two ninety nine, Dylan
Brooks is six seven to two twenty. I mean, you
wouldn't want to watch that, you would You wouldn't want
a five minute delay to see those guys get after it.

Speaker 3 (01:12:20):
Yeah, man, I think Dylan Brooks is really gonna have
to work the body earlier. What he's gonna have to
do is get in the inside. It's too much reach
for Zach Edy at the end of the day. So
if he can just keep Dylan Brooks off of him
with his jab and kind of pack it and kind
of rack up the rounds. I think he can win.
Dylan Brooks is really gonna have to do some damage
on the inside with some faints on his way inside.
Really avoid the jab and work the body in the

(01:12:40):
early rounds.

Speaker 1 (01:12:42):
If John Moran and Opern Shangoon were to collide with
each other, I mean, you don't want to get into
that a little bit and then and then Opern blocks
one of his shots and he goes to the KEMMI
mutembo may rest in peace, finger wag. You don't want
some of that tonight.

Speaker 3 (01:12:54):
I would sound fun just saying.

Speaker 1 (01:12:57):
Let's talk to Kevin in Paarland at eleven forty seven.

Speaker 15 (01:13:00):
Kevin, good morning, Good morning Matt and Ross on the
website photo for Ross Kevin Ross.

Speaker 1 (01:13:07):
Thank you Kevin on there now?

Speaker 15 (01:13:09):
Yes, oh yes, a long time now you got there
with Ross on the show.

Speaker 11 (01:13:14):
I will say, Matt, you were dressed to the nines
when I was sitting courtside with wex one tickets of course,
and were you on TV the Toledo game sitting next
to Rosa.

Speaker 3 (01:13:27):
Were you were looking good?

Speaker 1 (01:13:29):
Thank you very much. I got two new suits. As
a matter of fact, you're gonna see me next time.
I'd be like, damn, it's a handsome man. Oh well,
I didn't recognize you.

Speaker 11 (01:13:36):
But anyways, Uh, my thing about the Cougars is the
ESPN Plus.

Speaker 3 (01:13:41):
I mean we're talking about the Rockets.

Speaker 15 (01:13:43):
I don't care if they're on national TV, as long
as I can see him on Space City, which I'll
watch every game and I put on mute.

Speaker 3 (01:13:49):
And of course you know who I listened to on
seven every game. Yes, but what's up with the ESPN Plus?

Speaker 11 (01:13:55):
Last year it seemed like they were on like ESPN
two or something like that a lot of the games.

Speaker 15 (01:14:00):
And now I got to listen to nine to fifty,
which I like.

Speaker 6 (01:14:03):
I listen.

Speaker 3 (01:14:04):
I like to listen to the.

Speaker 1 (01:14:05):
Nine to fifty, But I mean, what's up with that?

Speaker 9 (01:14:07):
Man?

Speaker 6 (01:14:08):
Well?

Speaker 1 (01:14:08):
I mean you you know, look, you play twenty league games,
and there's only certain spots that they're going to be
put on the overall networks. They don't they don't allow
local TV games produced anymore. Everything has to go through ESPN.
So you either got an ESPN, you either got an ABC,
ESPN two, ESPNU and then they sell a few games
to CBS Sports Network, which is a cable channel, and

(01:14:30):
then they just put a handful of games on the
on internet only and try to drive up various people
to buy that mat game.

Speaker 15 (01:14:38):
So the streamers streamers, and let me ask you about
the Rockets. So my all time favorite Rocket you know,
of course everybody can say elij one.

Speaker 3 (01:14:47):
Of course he's my favorite.

Speaker 15 (01:14:48):
But mister mean Larry Smith would Dylan Brooks to be
the mister mean of today's NBA although you can't get
away with what they get away with. And lastly, the
all time favorite Cougar, Matt Come on, brother, you know
it's gotta be uh, Larry Meshaw.

Speaker 3 (01:15:02):
I guess mister mean, Yeah, mister me and Larry Meshaw.
I'm going chicken noles or not? You know what you
always go, chicken noles. Shut up, Shut your ball mass up.
Thank you Kevin for the phone call, and that was yesterday.
Well I was not there yesterday, by the way, shut
your ball mass up. Nate Earlson for a ruin of
my game show and be telling me how to fan.
But I think I mentioned only five times in the
last two days. You are never allowed to say chicken noles.

(01:15:26):
You know what mine was towards you. Actually that the
people whining about the super Bowl.

Speaker 1 (01:15:32):
Oh no, it's a good, really good Eagles and the
really good cheese. The Super Bowl sucks. I'm gonna give
you a strong take away for a strong You ready miss.

Speaker 3 (01:15:43):
One of the best defenses and offens and teams.

Speaker 1 (01:15:46):
M Andy re living up to the hike. We're not
gonna bring it that. We're not gonna cuss the discuss
that we're gonna watch the game on Sunday. Ross, it's all.
We're gonna do.

Speaker 3 (01:15:56):
Great defenses and great offenses in the Super Bowl.

Speaker 1 (01:16:00):
As boring game. Give me Buffalo Joint, gim me, give
me a give me the Natty, give me Baltimore, give
me somebody. Hell, give me the Texans. I don't take
anybody at this point. I'll watch the game, but I
ain't gonna be thrilled about it. Whiner, you shut your
bomb ass. You can't tell me how to fan.

Speaker 3 (01:16:18):
I'm not telling you how to fan.

Speaker 1 (01:16:19):
Yeah you are. You spend time talking about all you'd
be You know what we're bored by. I don't even do.

Speaker 3 (01:16:26):
Just what I said yesterday. Okay, I suddenly feel a
lot better. I got energetic all of a sudden.

Speaker 1 (01:16:32):
I know me too. Seven one three two one two
five seven on Either It's something you don't get, Ladies
and gentlemen, I ask you a very simple question, what
don't you get? Eleven forty five on Sports Talk seven
and eight with a word for the show, Federal Credit Union.
I want you to think about getting an all alone

(01:17:16):

They're great, seamless process for the application, and was able
to pay it off at a nice low interest rate.
And you can get that right now too by going
to shell FCU dot org. That shell FCU dot org
for the Shell Federal Credit Union for auto loans three
point nine nine percent up the thirty six months shell

(01:17:37):
EPCU dot org. More.

Speaker 2 (01:17:40):
Matt Thomas Show with Ross now but Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (01:17:49):
Eleven fifty one on Sports Talk seven ninety, it's time
for us to ask all of you something. If you
just don't get it, let us know and say, hey,
Matt Ross Connor, I just don't get it. Seven one
three two one two five seven Ross, I go the
for you tab and it's again it's my mistake, but
all of us are doing it about way. We had
a four you conversation on the plane yesterday. We're all
going to it.

Speaker 3 (01:18:08):
It's unavoidable because what the problem is. Let's say, Matt,
you put a somehow to you hit the long shot,
and you put out a really funny, good tweet, and
you put it out at eleven thirty am, and I
wasn't on Twitter at that time. If I don't go
to the forour you tab, I will never see that tweet.

Speaker 1 (01:18:26):
Yeah, And first of all, my tweets are funny, So
that's pretty good. Number Two. It does give you a
sense of people that you don't care to follow because
you only want so many people on your timeline. But
if there's something going on in the world or in sports,
you get to, like, if something big happened in Pittsburgh.
I'm not going to follow Pittsburgh sports people, but if
something big in Pittsburgh happens, I want to talk about.
The for you tab is perfect for me on that.

(01:18:48):
So here's my I don't just don't get it. Yesterday
or two days ago, Nick Wright was on the Dan
Patrick Show and now he's in the Dan Leppertard Show today.
When did when did we care what Nick Right had
to say about He is a comment hot take of
epic proportions, doesn't believe things that he even says. He

(01:19:10):
I know, I know Nick Right, ladies and gentlemen, he
doesn't believe half the crap he says. He does it
because he wants the attention. So I would say having
Nick write as a guest on my show or any
show for that matter. Ross Connor, I just don't get it.
He didn't play the game. He You know what you're

(01:19:32):
getting from him, It's not logical, it's it's he sounds lucky.
He's smarter than he is and I look I like
Nick but I know, I mean, I.

Speaker 3 (01:19:40):
Think he's actually a really smart guy.

Speaker 1 (01:19:42):
I know Nick stick he's doing it to gain attention,
but I wouldn't put him on my radio station. I
wouldn't put him on it. I mean, he doesn't have
his he's got a TV national show, but there's I'll
just say this, maybe I'm missing the boat on this one.
I just don't get it because every comment that on
any show that he's on, it's like, who is this guy?

(01:20:03):
And what is he saying? He's stupid? And why do
I Why am I seeing this? I just don't get it.

Speaker 3 (01:20:11):
Yeah, I don't get it either. Like I actually think
I'm having met him in you know a few times.
He's a smart guy. It is calculated. He knows when
he goes out and says and what it's He's getting
the maximum amount of attention that he can with his takes.
He just doesn't believe all of them, and it's calculating

(01:20:31):
takes working and for whatever reason, why, you know, I'm
wishing him the best.

Speaker 1 (01:20:35):
I wanted to be a sports radio host when I
was a kid. I didn't say to myself, Ross, I've
got to be calculated in this. I've got to figure
out a way to make my.

Speaker 3 (01:20:46):
Move and to get the most attention possible.

Speaker 1 (01:20:48):
Yeah. I became a sports radio host because I love sports.
I have the ability to gab. I'm not athletic, so
it fits check check check, and I think I can.
I can put together a decent show. I didn't do
it to say. What am I going to say that's
going to attract the most attention? So I can have
people crush my tweets, but at least they're talking about me.

(01:21:13):
I am a gonna belief that just because you get
attention doesn't mean it needs to be that it's what
you want. No publicity's good. It's working very well for
the young Kah, but it is. But you know what,
maybe my ego is too fragile for that. Maybe I
don't want to go on there. And who is this
dork saying this all this stuff? So Nick, congrats to
you because you're getting the attention you let me made

(01:21:34):
fun of on social platforms enjoy that. I just don't
get it, Ross, what don't you get?

Speaker 3 (01:21:41):
Well real quickly in that same vein, I don't get
why we take air Cam Newton's everywhere too. This isn't
what is we gonna say, but you just made me
think of it. Cam Newton was at least an MVP
in the NFL. That's pretty good. But he's all over
every single TV show with his funny hats, and it's like, yeah,

(01:22:01):
I just don't get that either.

Speaker 1 (01:22:07):
M Oh, you're saying that, why why go grab it?

Speaker 3 (01:22:10):
Why do we care what he Why do we care
what he has to say?

Speaker 1 (01:22:13):
I think they're trying to find a fresh group of
people to talk about the NFL or I mean, for instance,
if you turn on the ESPN Ross if you don't
see Dan Orlofski or Jeff Saturday, is something wrong in
the world Because those cats are on every show. When
they're on NASCAR this week breaking down the stuff, it
makes me concerned. I'm all for I'm all for new

(01:22:33):
blow when it comes to analysis.

Speaker 3 (01:22:35):
I got another one and you're this will this will
make you happy, Matt. Why can't lower basketball be good.

Speaker 1 (01:22:44):
You've got all the facilities.

Speaker 3 (01:22:46):
You've got all the money, You've got a referral recruiting base.

Speaker 1 (01:22:49):
Right.

Speaker 3 (01:22:50):
Rick Barnes is doing well in Tennessee. Shaka Smart's got
a top ten team in Marquette. Chris Beard, well, that
was a whole different ball of wax. But Chris Beard
just beat Rodney Terry in the Texas Longhorns. They haven't
made a Final four since two thousand and three, and
that was the last one they made since like nineteen
forty six or something, when there were only eight teams

(01:23:10):
in the tournament. So they only have one real legit
final four in the program's history. Why do I pour
my why do I pour my attention into these teams?
And it's just feudile And why can't Texas basketball ever win?

Speaker 1 (01:23:23):
That's why I just don't get it. That's why I
went for the Texans. I don't need any more disappointment
in my life.

Speaker 3 (01:23:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:23:30):
So if I, I mean, if I gave you the
magic one right now, ROSSI, and I said you can
fire Rodney Terry.

Speaker 3 (01:23:37):
No, that's rude. He gets his full payout, right, Yeah,
he gets his buyout.

Speaker 1 (01:23:42):
And I gave you the dream coach. Oh, I don't know.
Do you have any idea? Rick Barnes, you know you're skiddy.
Dan Hurley, he is, boy, he is getting annihilated for
what he said last week.

Speaker 3 (01:23:54):
What did he say now?

Speaker 1 (01:23:56):
He said he's the best coach in college.

Speaker 3 (01:23:58):
He said that to the Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'll go
with Dan Hurley right now.

Speaker 1 (01:24:03):
See, you would just you would just open the bank
book up and say, what is it gonna take for
you to leave stories Connecticut. Hell, the Lakers almost did
that to bring him to Los Angeles to coach the Lakers.

Speaker 3 (01:24:14):
Yeah, and he said no, he's gonna go for a
three peat.

Speaker 1 (01:24:19):
Okay, there it is, Rossfield Reale endorsing Dan Hurley to
be the next coach at University of Texas.

Speaker 3 (01:24:25):
Ke is great, a little too old though, he's doing
great at Houston. Leaving there, He's.

Speaker 1 (01:24:33):
Not leaving Gonzagi. He's been there forever.

Speaker 3 (01:24:35):
I'm just asking how old?

Speaker 1 (01:24:36):
You said?

Speaker 3 (01:24:37):
Magic wand I got a magic wand Maddig can do
whatever I want.

Speaker 1 (01:24:40):
That's true. Mark's gotta be in his sixties by hour.
He's been there forever.

Speaker 3 (01:24:43):
Google says he's sixty two.

Speaker 1 (01:24:45):
You want you know what?

Speaker 3 (01:24:46):
Six Look, coaches are being hired all the time and
they're old old that are fine.

Speaker 1 (01:24:50):
Look at Bill Belichick in North Carolina. Look at uh uh,
the coach at the Las Vegas Raiders.

Speaker 3 (01:24:57):
Now if Pete Carroll because he's seventy three.

Speaker 1 (01:25:00):
Seventy three sixty two is the is the new twenty eight?
All right? Is Connor still talking to somebody off air
for like, we can't we can go to Mike Okay,
I have some white screen there. That's what I don't
see it.

Speaker 3 (01:25:15):
Oh, yours is frozen. We're fine, Mike. Mike is online one.
You want me to put him up?

Speaker 1 (01:25:19):
Yeah, put Mike on there for us, Mike, what don't
you get? My friend?

Speaker 13 (01:25:23):
What's up?

Speaker 2 (01:25:24):
Man?

Speaker 1 (01:25:24):
Man?

Speaker 9 (01:25:24):
Welcome back?

Speaker 1 (01:25:25):
Man.

Speaker 9 (01:25:25):
What I don't get is the fact that I'm also
the good things.

Speaker 13 (01:25:29):
Oh, I don't believe it.

Speaker 9 (01:25:31):
Believe it, believe it and not.

Speaker 13 (01:25:33):
And then they want the social Security No, they want
to know what color your crowd was in the morning.

Speaker 9 (01:25:38):
You can get I just talt it.

Speaker 1 (01:25:41):
Man, Mike.

Speaker 3 (01:25:42):
Mike called yesterday. I explained it to you yesterday. Mike.

Speaker 1 (01:25:48):
It is for tax purposes.

Speaker 3 (01:25:50):
You cannot give away free stuff but in the thousands
in a year, which these stations do, and not have
tax implications. So N four, Fortunately you have to get
your social Security number, and we don't need to know
what color your do do is. We just need to
know your social Security number because unfortunately it's for tax purposes.

Speaker 1 (01:26:11):
I've been here fifteen years, Matt.

Speaker 3 (01:26:12):
I don't know how long they've been doing it since
you've been around as well as a producer, and we
had to do it for years. And years and years
and years. That's just the way it is. If you
don't want to know it, don't get your prize. It's
that simple. I just don't get While you continue to
call and can be confused.

Speaker 1 (01:26:29):
About things, the caller, I will say to the caller, Unfortunately,
my friend, I get it. That's the rules. We don't
make it up.

Speaker 3 (01:26:37):
We don't want to connor taken away from being a
great part of this radio show to answer these.

Speaker 1 (01:26:41):
Tax questions for the rules of them. Rules.

Speaker 3 (01:26:46):
The rules are the rules. We don't make them. It's
every station in the country.

Speaker 1 (01:26:51):
Everyone for sure. Twelve o'clock, let's do this. Let's have
the News at Noon coming up next here on Sports
Talk seven.

Speaker 2 (01:26:59):
Ninety lunchtimers, this is the Matt Thomas Show, twelve.

Speaker 1 (01:27:06):
O four What's happened to lunch timers? Welcome to the
third of four hours the Matt Thomas Shill with Ross
on Sports Talk seven. I need time for us to
do like we do every single day during the middle
of the week, give you the New SAT Noon TA
We're backs. We go to the news center, the Sports RV.

(01:27:28):
When the rain is falling in Houston, when it's cold,
it's drizzly. It's super hot, good time, isn't it bad?
We always provide sultry voice.

Speaker 3 (01:27:38):
He did a good job stalling through my coughing fit. Yeah,
you're you're you're very smart. You're you're true professional, Matt.
We appreciate you. Uh yes, Matt. We're gonna start the
news at noon with the Brigman update we gave earlier
on the show, But for the folks who missed it,
what is the latest with Alex Brigman?

Speaker 1 (01:27:57):
A trusted source unlike.

Speaker 3 (01:27:59):
Any other, John Amen says it could be the Astros
or another team the Astros have been dealing with in
this offseason.

Speaker 1 (01:28:08):
If you got to.

Speaker 8 (01:28:09):
Choose one team that will eventually get Bragman, what team
would that be? Maybe I would say Houston. We know
kind of where they've at least on the starting point.
It thinks for one fifty six, I'm gonna say them,
but I know there is an alert of the Cubs.
We just saw his great friend Ryan Presley leave the
Astros to go to the Cubs. There are two Astros
now on the Cubs. I mean, the Cubs are an
interesting team. They're a fun team. You know, got Tucker

(01:28:31):
now on right field, You've got Presley now is the
closer that may be an extra alert for Bragman. I
know that he and Presley were close. Maybe the Cubs
could could come in there. So I'm gonna say one
of those two teams. I think I tweeted that a
week ago that Houston and the Cubs were certainly big
players in on Bragman. But I don't know that we're
close at this moment, you know. I mean, one of

(01:28:53):
these other teams is gonna have to step up. And
if they do, if they step up and go to
that sixth year or seventh year, the Cubs red sucks,
they might be able to them because we all know
where the Astros are and that wasn't good enough.

Speaker 1 (01:29:05):
But if I had to pick one team today, just.

Speaker 8 (01:29:08):
Guess I might guess the as.

Speaker 3 (01:29:14):
The leader in the clubhouse, Ken Rosenthal on Saturday saying
he would pick the Astros. John Haymon saying he would
pick the Astros.

Speaker 1 (01:29:22):
We'll hear from another front of the show, Jeff Pass
in the next segment of the show, we will yeah,
oh great, we might as well get all the good
boys in here, the guys that we that are respected, their.

Speaker 3 (01:29:31):
Fun and really good dudes, the guys, the guys that
you love, Matt.

Speaker 1 (01:29:36):
I mean, I just they're they're all very good at
their job. I'm not gonna I can't possibly argue with it.
They've all reached levels, but it doesn't mean they're great dudes,
like the good dudes that are Nashal. I like Tim Kirkshon,
I Bob Nottingel, I personally know. I like him. Our
local guys we love, we love Channel, we love Brian McTaggart.

(01:30:00):
I don't really know the Chronicle guy very well.

Speaker 3 (01:30:02):
Chandler's growing his national profile, I think, is he is
he gonna leave us? We've got feeling Chandler's a big
national major league baseball reporter at some point.

Speaker 1 (01:30:12):
Yeah, I would think that. Yeah, I think I think
that's that's his goals. Now. He's never told us that,
but I have no I don't know like he'd like
to be. I think he's got good sources. He's been breaking.

Speaker 3 (01:30:23):
News like a motto.

Speaker 1 (01:30:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:30:24):
He's a spectacular writer.

Speaker 1 (01:30:26):
Yeah yeah, from a writing style. Yeah. And again he
works through the athletic And they don't pay us to say this,
but it's every bit of worth the money because it's
not about box scores and you know in the fifth
inting this happen. It's I like the behind the scenes stuff.

Speaker 3 (01:30:37):
They should pay us to say it though.

Speaker 1 (01:30:40):
Ken Rosenthal, I don't know personally had him on a
couple of times. He wears nice bow ties, he works
nice bow ties. Uh yeah, he's kind of said no
thanks the last couple time we've asked him. Beyond and
then Tom Verducci's always traveling, so he can't ever come on.

Speaker 3 (01:30:55):
He came on during Covid' He's like, yeah, to go out,
not going to be doing it.

Speaker 1 (01:30:59):
No, you're not.

Speaker 3 (01:31:00):
You're in quarantine like everyone else come on the show.

Speaker 1 (01:31:02):
Can you imagine? He said, I'm traveling, and I responded back, No,
you're not. It's COVID. You're you're gonna be on the show. Okay,
you got me.

Speaker 3 (01:31:11):
That's pretty good.

Speaker 1 (01:31:12):
Five consecutive Tom Berducci's I'm traveling.

Speaker 3 (01:31:14):
He's a man about town.

Speaker 1 (01:31:17):
Like if you don't want to, like when you're trying,
like if you're in a relationship with a girl and
you're trying to break up, whether do you you don't
go to the same excuse every single time I'm not
feeling well, you got to change it up, like my
mom going to my mom's house, or I've got a
family reunion, or I don't feel well, or I gotta
work an extra shift at the at the at the workplace.
I mean, you got to you gotta mix it up.

Speaker 3 (01:31:34):
Yeah, that's a key to avoidance is mixing up your excuses.
Keeping up with the Astros real quickly, Matt the Recently,
the ESPN has released their top one hundred prospects in baseball.

Speaker 1 (01:31:48):
Yeah, two Asuros have made the list.

Speaker 3 (01:31:52):
Cam Smith comes in at seventy third, almost an.

Speaker 1 (01:31:56):
Astro a month ago, isn't that crazy?

Speaker 3 (01:31:58):
And Jacob Melton racking the list at number ninety five.
Dana Brown has talked about a left handed bat. Well,
he's left handed with plus raw power, above average speed,
and strong bat to ball skills like according to this.

Speaker 1 (01:32:15):
By the way, I think the I saw a tweet
in the four U tab. Don't blame me, I am
blaming it, says the Astros of the twenty ninth best
raw Minor League operation.

Speaker 3 (01:32:23):
I think at this all right, top twenty nine, let's go.

Speaker 1 (01:32:26):
I think the athletic is the one that didn't know
how many I'm mistaken. Nine. Well, that Keith Law that
does those I don't know who's with it? Okay, Keith
All wants an applicant for the Astros GM spot. Hm
really I think so I would make that up.

Speaker 3 (01:32:43):
Hmm.

Speaker 1 (01:32:44):
Good for him. That was like that was right after Luno.
I think.

Speaker 3 (01:32:48):
Wasn't he beefing with Kurt Shilling on Twitter back in
the day.

Speaker 1 (01:32:51):
Yeah, that's fine.

Speaker 3 (01:32:52):
Former Astros farm hand Drew Gilbert number eighty four on
the list. Okay, A yeah, let's keep it going. On
the news at noon here, Matt, did you catch Ross
Tucker infl analysts on the A team.

Speaker 1 (01:33:07):
I did not. I was ticking a nap.

Speaker 3 (01:33:10):
Well, he had some interesting things to say, including one
SoundBite I know you're going to love. But let's start
with him talking about the Texans OC job. He thinks
it might not be the great spot that some others do.

Speaker 6 (01:33:24):
I think if you're an OC with options, I think
you gotta consider. Okay, well, why did they fire Bobby Slowick?
And what do I need to get done to keep
my job and not get fired after a year? Whereas
there's probably other places you can go where the expectations

(01:33:46):
are to high and you'd have a little.

Speaker 4 (01:33:48):
Bit more time to try to build something. You know,
that's not easy, old ways to just come in and
be a quick fix.

Speaker 3 (01:34:00):
Maybe the OC job not as attractive as we think
here in Houston, meaning the pressure would be immense because
this team has got back to back division championships, back
to back divisional round games. Yeah, they went ten and seven,
won the division and they made it to the divisional
round and then they fired their OC.

Speaker 1 (01:34:16):
Yeah yeah, I mean I could see that. So does
that mean to me that there should we should be
we should be more placing to blame on others besides
Zamiko Ryans or maybe a quick trigger finger on the
organization as a whole to get rid of coaches.

Speaker 3 (01:34:31):
And perhaps we don't know the whole story, all right,
So what is it?

Speaker 1 (01:34:34):
Down by? It's gonna make me happy?

Speaker 3 (01:34:36):
Ross Tucker on Laramie tunsil Oh.

Speaker 4 (01:34:41):
Laramie tunsl Okay. How many penalties was it?

Speaker 13 (01:34:44):
Guys?

Speaker 4 (01:34:44):
Seventeen? Yeah?

Speaker 10 (01:34:46):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (01:34:47):
I mean I think he had seventeen penalties. So many
false starts? I guess I look at it like this.
I know if it's a false start that the down
doesn't count. But what would we think of a left
hand that gave up twelve sacks. I mean, they're losing
five yards and they're not losing the down, but you're

(01:35:07):
still losing five yards. I think when your best players
lack that attention to detail, it kind of rubs off
on the rest of the group. They clearly had a
bunch of mental errors and they were not a disciplined,
well coached group.

Speaker 1 (01:35:25):
They just weren't.

Speaker 3 (01:35:28):
Hm, Matt your thoughts on Laramie Tunseil setting a bad
tone for the rest of the offense.

Speaker 1 (01:35:36):
Couldn't agree more. Ross Tucker, You're my favorite. You know what,
we look through the we see the NFL with the
same set eyes. I like that. Vastly overrated doesn't mean
he can't play, doesn't mean he can't he's at the
best offensive lineman. He is vastly overrated, period into story.
Thank you Ross for having.

Speaker 3 (01:35:56):
My back on that. I'd be Tucker.

Speaker 1 (01:36:00):
Ross Tucker too, and Ross field a route and Ross.
I don't know any of the Rosses, but that's fine.
Uh perro he's dead. Wow. Uh yeah, I'm I'm out.

Speaker 3 (01:36:13):
Ross.

Speaker 1 (01:36:13):
When you heard that, did you go, oh, that's a
keen insider. Do you go, oh, that's just a guy
that's just hating on no. I mean I think he
could be. Yeah, as he mentioned, the penalties matter. Now
it was cleaned up.

Speaker 3 (01:36:23):
It was really bad beginning of the season and got
better as the season went along, but it's still added
up to a way too. I have a number, Larry.

Speaker 1 (01:36:30):
Why don't you get on there and get to mini
camp and hang out with you bros and stop saying
I'm too tired for this. I get sick to do.

Speaker 3 (01:36:37):
He's busy, show up.

Speaker 1 (01:36:38):
At a mini camp, show up at ot as once
in a while, and act like a team veteran. Gross.
That's why I'm not a fan. I can't. I can't
be a fan of a team that frustrates me so much.
I already got enough frustration on my life. Everybody's a
fan of a team that frustrates them so much, a
thing I don't want anymore. It makes it easier for
me minimum frustration. M And that was the news A

(01:37:01):
new excellent work, all right, So Jeff Passive chimes in
on the Astros. Everybody, everybody their mother's chiming in. We'll
have it for you. Next twelve fourteen on Sports Talk Civita, go.

Speaker 2 (01:37:13):
Back to Matt Thomas and Ross via Real on Sports
Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (01:37:24):
Friend of the Show Jeff Passive chimes in on pregnant
the six is still in play.

Speaker 16 (01:37:33):
Okay, So theoretically would it take more for him to
sign somewhere else?

Speaker 1 (01:37:39):
I mean one would think.

Speaker 16 (01:37:41):
But it is a three or four year contract with
a higher AAV and an opt out after years one
and two more valuable than the long term deal. I
think we're going to learn a lot about Alex Fregman's
priorities here and what's important. And then the belief is

(01:38:01):
that he wants a long term deal now, might not
need any opt outs, like he wants to be locked
in and he's just not getting those years elsewhere at
this point. But you know, the closer we get to
spring training, man, I think the more teams start to recognize, hey,
maybe we have this weakness year and we need to

(01:38:23):
take advantage of this opportunity. Which is why I think
at the end of the day, Bregman is still going
to do just fine. Yeah, I don't know that he's
gonna end up in Boston at this point.

Speaker 1 (01:38:32):
All right. That again, Front of the Show, the one
and only Jeff Passing, So it all comes down to
individually what you want in life. I am of the
belief when I've signed my contracts, I like length. You

(01:38:52):
like length? Yeah, I figured as soon as I said
that exact phrase is going to be clipped for tomorrow.
And that's fine. So give me a longer contract if
I have to take less for the length as compared
to the shorter greater dollar amount. That's how I've typically worked.

Speaker 3 (01:39:14):
In rather than shorter and girthier.

Speaker 1 (01:39:17):
I never said the other part of that word, and
I'm not saving that word. And you can clip ross
right there by the way. How do you roll ross?
I don't know if you do so many contracts.

Speaker 3 (01:39:27):
In your life, but that's a personal question, Matt.

Speaker 1 (01:39:30):
I know, okay, forget about that. What if it's about
at least to an apartment or a townhouse? Do you
like it as a longer term locked in right or
do you want to go for a shorter term and
maybe a I mean it's not it's not the same, siaes,
but I mean you get My drift is that you
can be and you when you negotiate things in life,
you're one of those two people.

Speaker 3 (01:39:49):
Yeah, I'm terrified of commitment, Matt, so I would say
shorter lease.

Speaker 1 (01:39:54):
Okay, yeah, see, I don't. I like to have minimal
contract negotiations. I usually get what I get, I send
back something, ask them for a couple of things, and
then I go back and say, all right, we we compromise.

Speaker 3 (01:40:07):
Hmm, okay.

Speaker 1 (01:40:08):
It feels like to me, and again I don't I'm Alex,
and I've never talked about his dollars and cents because
that's kind of a personal thing. It feels like to me,
he's looking for the longer term deal. I think I
think he was looking for seven and two hundreds what
I was looking for.

Speaker 3 (01:40:25):
And everybody says thank you, but no thank you.

Speaker 1 (01:40:28):
Well yeah, I mean I don't, not knowing every team,
but it feels like to me that there is there's
nobody sitting back going we've got this wild card. We
have this seven year, two hundred and four million dollar
contract we're holding on for Alex Berman to take at
the very last second. I have a firm feeling that

(01:40:50):
Alex knows what every team's interest is in what every
team is willing to spend on him, if that makes
sense to you. I don't think there's anybody that's unless
all of a sudden, they go, Man, where about Ti
February first, we don't have a third base, but we
don't have a short stup. We don't have a second base.
We need Alex Pragman. Let's just go in there at
the very last second and say, enough's enough. Okay, we
try to play coy with you. Here's what we really

(01:41:12):
want to pay you, here's what you really want. Let's
make this happen.

Speaker 3 (01:41:16):
That's what I'm thinking.

Speaker 1 (01:41:18):
I don't think that's out there. I think I think
Alex and Scott Boris knows exactly what every team's willing
to go with.

Speaker 3 (01:41:25):
Yeah, but I think there what Jeff Passon basically just
said there is they're waiting for some team to kind
of wake up and get desperate, right, whether it be
via injury or via looking poring over the roster and saying, oh,
you know what, at the end of the day, we
probably could use Alex Bringman.

Speaker 1 (01:41:38):
Right right again, There's no way we know how every
team feels for that man. We don't know if anyone
team feels.

Speaker 6 (01:41:51):
That.

Speaker 1 (01:41:51):
I would not want if I wanted Alex Fragman so
bad and I kind of know what he wants, I'm
not waiting for it's help me out. Ross. Is it
like playing a poker hand. I got this really great hand,
and I want to I want to get people out
of the way. I don't want I don't want people
to stay in the hand longer than they need to be.

Speaker 3 (01:42:11):
Are you the general manager in this?

Speaker 1 (01:42:14):
I don't know. I gotta bore you. I don't know
what I am. I'm just a confused lost soul right now,
we all are. If I wanted Bregman and I've got
this wild card in my pocket, I'd get I'd have
told him right now it's it's too late in the
game to be to jacking around with other teams.

Speaker 3 (01:42:33):
Yeah, but he clearly nobody's over the moon to sign
him to the money and the years that he wants.

Speaker 1 (01:42:39):
Yeah. So if that's the case, and you are a
big A A V guy, then maybe taking a shorter
term deal would get you a higher AAV. But if
you want security and you know this is your last
opportunity for a super Megan contract, would you want the

(01:43:03):
number of years and maybe take a couple of dollars
less because of that?

Speaker 3 (01:43:06):
Yeah, it's from just what Jeff Passon said there, it
sounds like Bregman's ideal is a long term He wants both, right,
he wants long term and he wants but he can't
get both.

Speaker 1 (01:43:15):
They can't get both. So what would you do if
you were if you were in his spot, what would
you do right this second?

Speaker 3 (01:43:20):
Uh, probably at the age of thirty.

Speaker 1 (01:43:27):
I would take I'll get my answer. I would take
the longest deal I can get, as long as the
dollar's made sense.

Speaker 3 (01:43:32):
I think you do short term short term. Have a
good year and then rather than getting a six year
deal from a seven year deal from somebody, and the
next year you get a six year deal if you
have a good season and you're healthy, but then.

Speaker 1 (01:43:46):
You're adding another year to his length. You're adding another
year wearing tear. I mean, are you trying to extend
the contract? And who knows?

Speaker 3 (01:43:52):
Yeah, gets to bet on yourself, right, Obviously the long
term deal is a is more security. But is he
going to bet on himself? Which players do? Blake Snell
bet on himself and he did great and he got
a big deal from the Dodgers.

Speaker 1 (01:44:09):
In fact, that Brank Snell really bet on himself in
one even though he missed what the first month of
the year, right, wasn't It was that with any he
was out for a while, he was sitting will He
was terrible to start the season.

Speaker 3 (01:44:18):
Then he rounded in a form.

Speaker 1 (01:44:19):
Yeah, but our pictures treated a little bit differently because
they can catch lightning in a bottle really quick. That man,
you add Blake's do out of your rotation, You're like, damn,
this is We're locked and loaded, ready to go now.
Although having a guy every single day, you know, yeah,
I don't get twenty five bombs.

Speaker 3 (01:44:34):
Twenty five bombs, gold glove third basement doesn't sound bad.

Speaker 1 (01:44:36):
No, it doesn't, not at all. Oh, the problems of
a mega rich star trying to get mega big dollars. Matt,
We're gonna here ware here at seven hine eighty love you.
We're gonna give you a six year deal, give you
forty thousand dollars a year, and hope you enjoy it. Yes,
sign me up. Done? Finished? Yeah, give you the ten

(01:44:57):
to two slot with your friend Ross. Well, let's go
set me up lifetime.

Speaker 3 (01:45:02):
Listen, fantastic.

Speaker 1 (01:45:04):
I'm having a good time.

Speaker 3 (01:45:05):
I'm just I'm sorry it starts.

Speaker 1 (01:45:07):
Yeah, we'll be we'll be less cranky tomorrow. Hopefully you're
gonna get some good rest tonight.

Speaker 3 (01:45:13):
I'm gonna try. But the Rockets are up right. I
want to watch the Rockets game. But just prop your
head up against the pillow and you watch the game. Man,
I'm not asking you to keep score. Yeah, but I
gotta I gotta time my night quill so I'm not
too groggy in the morning.

Speaker 1 (01:45:27):
Well, then knockouts and put some day quill in. What
we need we need you watch.

Speaker 3 (01:45:32):
Them that we need to mix some day quill and
night quill.

Speaker 1 (01:45:34):
Well, I don't want you mix in. I don't need
you mixing up your benicence. Yeah. Maybe all walking tomorrow,
all right, twelve twenty eight on the sports talk seven
em dok is gonna join us in one hour here
on the radio program seven one three two one two
five seven ninety seven one.

Speaker 3 (01:45:53):
Three have some breaking interesting NBA.

Speaker 1 (01:45:55):
News as well, Matt, how many Uh it's in all
the Rockets? It does not? I think it's at least two.

Speaker 3 (01:46:03):
All right, Well, I'm not gonna look at Twitter, Okay,
don't is that like drop? I don't believe you. I
swear to god, I won't clicking like but not all
those porn bots.

Speaker 1 (01:46:11):
No, no, no, By the way, Taylor was at the
Memphis Phoenix game last night. Minnesota Phoenix game. Excuse me?

Speaker 3 (01:46:17):
How do you know that?

Speaker 1 (01:46:19):
For you?

Speaker 3 (01:46:21):
Yeah, it's for you, all right.

Speaker 1 (01:46:23):
She sat next to Alex Rodriguez during the game.

Speaker 3 (01:46:26):
Oh geez, do you think he watched her?

Speaker 1 (01:46:30):
Or the game? More her? Seven one three two one
two five seven nineties and breaking NBA news next here
on seven ninety lunchtimers.

Speaker 2 (01:46:40):
Lunch timers, it's a Thomas show with Ross on Sports
Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (01:46:53):
That's one. I think it's at least two, at least
to me. Is there a go to possible?

Speaker 3 (01:47:04):
Chris Haynes reporting Terry Rosier is under investigation by federal
prosecutors for potentially cooperating in an illegal sports betting scheme
in twenty twenty three while with the Hornets. What In

(01:47:29):
a March twenty twenty three game, Terry Rosier played the
first nine minutes thirty seconds of the game and left
with a foot injury. Did not return that night, did
not play again that season. Investigators are saying this is
a Wall Street Journal report also, and it's behind a paywall,
so I don't have all the information for you there, Matt,

(01:47:51):
unless you pay for the Wall Street Journal, and I
want to give me your login information. Basically, it's it's
activity from the same people who are involved in the
Johnte Porter scandal. Well, apparently very a lot of activity
on the under on Terry Rozier prop bets that evening
to the extent to where it was pulled from books.

(01:48:21):
And Terry Roseier is like a pretty significant name.

Speaker 1 (01:48:27):
I mean, first of all, I mean I'm somewhat shocked,
but not super shocked because now he plays with the
Miami Heat now right, I think so.

Speaker 3 (01:48:41):
Is he on the or maybe he's on the Guardians.
Hold on, I'd be a Guardian Guardian, you know what
I'm saying. Cleveland whatever it's Cleveland is Yeah, ye, he
is on the Heat now.

Speaker 1 (01:48:54):
So you're telling me a player would fake an injury
to hit Unders on that particular night. Huh hm hmmm. Interesting.
I mean, Ross, we were just talking about this a
couple of hours ago. Are we completely surprised that there

(01:49:14):
has not been This doesn't pop up at once every
year or so.

Speaker 3 (01:49:19):
Terry Rozier has not yet been charged with the crime
nor been accused of any wrongdoing.

Speaker 1 (01:49:24):
So who's where's this information coming from?

Speaker 3 (01:49:27):
Does it even say, well, I don't know, it's a
federal investigation. I don't know if it's FBI or Department,
Department of Justice or what US Attorney's Office is that DOJ.

Speaker 1 (01:49:37):
I don't know. Yeah, so somebody must have said something
and said, Okay, somebody got in trouble and said, what
are you betting on? In that person said I'm betting
on Terry Rozier prop bets.

Speaker 3 (01:49:48):
NBA spokesman Mike Bass said in a statement quote in
March twenty twenty three, the NBA was alerted to unusual
betting activity related to Terry Rozier's performance in a game
between Charlotte and New Orleans.

Speaker 1 (01:50:00):
Huh, so the league's been in on this.

Speaker 3 (01:50:03):
The league conducting an investigation, did not find a violation
of NBA rules. So here it is. We are now
very aware of an investigation by the US Attorney's Office
for the Eastern District of New York related to this matter,
and have been cooperating with that investigation.

Speaker 1 (01:50:21):
Huh does sha Heyl Towny have any money on this game? Oh?

Speaker 3 (01:50:26):
Come on too soon? There actually is a tweet from
somebody that night. It's some random better on Twitter. So
who knows if it's real or not. But he his
name was Greg Ehrenberg. Okay, who is who does betting
and dfs confident content for something called odds Shopper?

Speaker 1 (01:50:50):
Does he follow me?

Speaker 3 (01:50:51):
I don't think so. Greg Ehrenberg does have twenty four
thousand followers. That's pretty good, but not as many as you, hewet.
They've pulled his tweet from that day. He said, at
least I was in on it that day. Got lucky.
I was fed some inside info that Rosier was leaving
in the first or second quarter, depending on game flow
and live line, so that his unders would hit.

Speaker 1 (01:51:14):
No, no, no, Why would you put that out there
in public to begin with? If even if you were
gonna use this, use use him and the system, why
would you put that out there?

Speaker 3 (01:51:26):
Well, that's a question for Greg Ehrenberg.

Speaker 1 (01:51:31):
Oh Man, Terror Rogier could have lived a nice NBA life,
making a lot of money playing for a mid Miami
team and a horrendous Charlotte team for most of his
NBA career, and he could have just lived its best life. Instead,
we're gonna every them in the world's gonna who Terror

(01:51:54):
Rogier is? If this thing's got legs.

Speaker 3 (01:51:55):
To it, By the way, that year Terry Rozier made
twenty one point four eight six million dollars in salary.
For his career, he's made if you count this season,
he's made about one hundred and thirty five million dollars.

Speaker 1 (01:52:09):
Okay, I want you to put that in perspective. A
true mid NBA player nice, Would you want him on
your team? Sure? Is he a difference maker? Not really,
But he's a nice NBA starting caliber player, but nothing
in terms of championship pedigree, no All Star appearances I

(01:52:33):
think to speak of, no NBA All First Team. Just
a good old fashioned average NBA player. One hundred and
thirty five million dollars and he's having now is he?
I wonder if he owes money to people, or he
just wants to get in on this for some more cash,
or he is just a pawn in this whole situation. Man, Ross.

(01:53:00):
That tweet is so that's that's the evidence, right. It
seems like it and it wasn't like it was. It
wasn't a I put together. There's time stamped and authentic
and all that kind of guff.

Speaker 3 (01:53:12):
Yeah, I mean, and I mean the tweet is still up.
That guy needs to delete it or I don't know,
he's about to get a call from the District Attorney's office.
But yeah, they obviously the books monitor these things and
if they see uh, you know, they alarm bells go
off there, Like why are we getting five hundred thousand
dollars bet on Terry Rosier's unders?

Speaker 1 (01:53:33):
It's a bet a half million dollars on anything Terry
Rozier related.

Speaker 3 (01:53:36):
Yeah, I made up that number.

Speaker 1 (01:53:37):
Problem or you've got some serious in information.

Speaker 3 (01:53:40):
Right, I made up that number. But like you know,
I'm sure whatever reason they as as it says in
the report, the NBA was this was brought to the
light for them two years ago when it happened, right,
because all of a sudden, you know, they they have numbers.

Speaker 1 (01:53:54):
How much does a certain player, you.

Speaker 3 (01:53:56):
Know, Lebron James props get more activity than than Terry
Rozier props. If Terry Rozier, all of a sudden is
getting all this action, it absolutely raised his suspicion.

Speaker 1 (01:54:06):
Like, if there was a I mean not to put
in the same category, but if there was a prop on,
oh god, it would be a rockets, that would be
Jack Landelle. If the overrunner in Jack Landell was eleven
points and somebody put a seven und fifty thousand dollars
on it and be like, what are you doing? Right? Okay?

(01:54:29):
That is that's This is not a story we're gonna
spend a lot of time on, but I'm gonna be
curious to see how it goes.

Speaker 3 (01:54:35):
He finished with five points, four rebounds, and two assists
that night. They said his total of points, rebounds, and
assists was twenty one and a half.

Speaker 1 (01:54:42):
So that's it.

Speaker 3 (01:54:43):
He got to eleven in the first.

Speaker 1 (01:54:44):
Quarter and said, you know what, I'm pacing too. Well.
He's like, I don't feel so good. Aren't you a
little bit stunned though, that we don't have this pop
up more than like once a year, it feels like,
or once every eighteen months. Mmmm.

Speaker 3 (01:54:59):
I thought it wouldn't happened hardly at all because of
how much these players make. Terry Rozier, how much money
is he making off a gambling scheme? Or does he
have gambling debts or does he have debts right? Or
does he have debts? Or he owes somebody a favor
or somebody you know, you get mixed in with the
wrong crowd. I don't know what Terry Rozier is doing.
I'm not trying to accuse him of that, but I'm
just telling you to think, like, I don't know, but you.

Speaker 1 (01:55:19):
Over here, don't you ever hear about the millionaires that
have gambling problems that they're spending that's true, hours of
hand on blackjack, so you could lose, you know, two
million dollars in a sitting. I mean that. I mean,
look at Charles Barkley. I mean he's basically not hidden
the fact that he is. Charles has never gone to
this level. But Charles has gone to a casino and
lost millions of dollars.

Speaker 3 (01:55:38):
Our friend Brandon has screenshotted the article for us.

Speaker 1 (01:55:44):
Oh he did. Yeah, you're the best, Brandon.

Speaker 3 (01:55:48):
I encourage all of you to support support journalism, but
I support all of you screenshotting stuff right, But I
will be reading this article. Yeah, I mean if y'all
want to share myself off n because like channel get
mad at me.

Speaker 1 (01:56:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:56:01):
There was this other guy tweeting. His name was DFS
by Noah. Before the game. He said, quote, this is
on a Twitter x. Whatever is there any reason why
there are zero Terry Rozier props on any books or
DFS sites is he out tonight? Did I miss something
very odd? So it sounds like he got pulled off
of books and then went under on his totals.

Speaker 1 (01:56:22):
Wow, wow, woh my god. Right, that's just grat Yeah,
I'm gonna I'm gonna call myself surprised that more of
this is not coming out at least more than once
a year Terry Rogier. If you're betting on props on
Terry Rozier with anything more than twenty five dollars, the
book should be going with alarm should be going off.

Speaker 3 (01:56:43):
Yeah, that's why apparently they pulled the They pulled his props.

Speaker 1 (01:56:46):
All right, twelve forty four on Sports Talk seven ninety
This is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross seven one
three two one two five seven ninety seven one three
two one two five seven nine zero. If you're on Twitter,
wan to follow there. We'd love to have you at
Sports MT, at Sports RV, and at Connor d McGovern
Ross believe it or not today coming up in one

(01:57:07):
hour and five minutes. What is the topic, Terry Rozier.
Of course, it is, of course seven gabling scandals.

Speaker 3 (01:57:18):
No, I think Terry was yours lilack socks. They had
who is the other guys? Was theyre you mass or whatever?

Speaker 1 (01:57:23):
Back in the day, tu Lane was basketball point shaving
m for sure? Or was it or Watson? I got you?
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety. Uh,
Texans Offensive coordinator conversation. We haven't really gotten to that
into the show today. We'll do that next here on

(01:57:45):
seven ninety Craig Bijo. Here, the heart of the order
is up right now.

Speaker 17 (01:57:48):
Matt Thomas is swinging for the fences here on Sports
Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (01:58:00):
Ross with you on Sports Talk seven ninety seven one
three two one two five, seven ninety if you want
to jump into the conversation seven one three two one
two five seven ninety. The Texans have interviewed officially three
different people for their offensive coordinator position, Jeff Nixon, the
OC at Syracuse quarterbacks coach Jeron Johnson, and the third name,

(01:58:23):
Bucks quarterback coach Thad Lewis.

Speaker 2 (01:58:26):
Ross.

Speaker 3 (01:58:26):
Who should be the favorite in that group? Uh, I'm
gonna go with Thad Lewis. This is the most fun
to say that he is Cohen Lewis.

Speaker 1 (01:58:34):
How did you know his middle name?

Speaker 3 (01:58:35):
I have it on Wikipedia right now. He was the
passing on no, and I'm sorry. He wasn't the passing
game coordinator, just the quarterbacks coach. Heah, right, I was
thinking of the h that guy from the Rams as
the passing game game coordinator Fabius Nicki Haley, Nicki Helly?

Speaker 1 (01:58:53):
Isn't she a senator? Oh?

Speaker 3 (01:58:54):
I'm sorry? Nick Kyley?

Speaker 1 (01:58:56):
Oh? Okay? Did Nicky Hilly run for the Republican ticket
until she got sideways with Trump and then Trump hates
her now or whatever?

Speaker 3 (01:59:03):
I can't keep track of. That guy's got beef with
a lot of people, not enough people recording to some groups.
O yeah, I mean, hey, popular vote, don't lie. You
crushed some serious ass of November.

Speaker 1 (01:59:20):
Just fine, you did, just fine? All right? Seven one
three two one two five s An As far as
I my thought is on the ocy'll they'll find the
guy that'll fit best. I mean, let's face it, this
is going to be what CJ wants. I mean, you
have to. You have to take care of your quarterback.

Speaker 3 (01:59:36):
Uh, you give him him some input, but I don't
think you give him all the input?

Speaker 1 (01:59:40):
Are you sure? Yes? Okay? With the with the short
leash of coordinators getting this ten, you better make sure
your best friend will c. J. Stroud.

Speaker 3 (01:59:50):
Well, and if you want to extend, if you want
them happy. But again, if you're looking all these young
and up and coming guys, it's going to be like
we said, Dad Lewis thirty seven years old, hasn't been
in OC before. Jeff Nixon is young. He's been at Syracu. Okay,
well he's fifty. Actually, never mind, he's still young.

Speaker 1 (02:00:08):
Fifty young, Right, it's young. Stop don't say that.

Speaker 3 (02:00:13):
Well, he hasn't been an offensive coordinator anywhere, oh except
for Syracuse in the NFL level, he has not. Right,
let's see how old Nick Keley is? Forty two? So
you're gonna run in the senator scenario where this guy's
gonna be really good and get hired off or he's
just gonna be terrible and you gotta fire him.

Speaker 1 (02:00:34):
Are we looking for chat? We have not seen it
chip Kelly signing yet, have we no?

Speaker 3 (02:00:39):
Do you know, by the way, we were talking about
that with yesterday with Chris Cordy, do you know Matt
who Chip Kelly's agent is?

Speaker 1 (02:00:51):
Is it?

Speaker 3 (02:00:51):
Uh, there's really only one name you need to know.

Speaker 1 (02:00:55):
Oh, it's in college football.

Speaker 3 (02:00:57):
I'm gonna say it, and you're gonna be like, of
course that's.

Speaker 1 (02:00:58):
It, okay, only in college football.

Speaker 3 (02:01:04):
Nick Saban's agent, it's our Keysian's agent. It is Jimmy Sexton.

Speaker 1 (02:01:10):
Oh does that make me weird or indifferent?

Speaker 3 (02:01:17):
Or I remember how I remember how Nick Saban would
get floated as the Texas coach and then all of
a sudden he would sign a mega extension with the
with the Alabama.

Speaker 1 (02:01:24):
Oh, I see what you're saying. I'm just saying that.
And not every time is it just agent driven? But
most times it is, but it can be.

Speaker 3 (02:01:40):
But also I haven't seen any have you seen legit
reports about Chip Kelly and the Texans or it's just.

Speaker 1 (02:01:45):
Feels like it's it just makes I mean, it just
makes sense. You go get a guy. I mean, I
think the Texans do what We'll have an open checkbook
for overcomes here and Chip Kelly does know obviously Demiko
very well have been coached him in Philadelphia. But I'm
gonna follow my sort of this one, Rossie. No one's
getting this job. And let's see j Gibs full approval.

(02:02:10):
I can see that. Yeah, I'll stand by that. I
think I'm comfortable saying that. Let's go to UH our
Buddy Gerard at twelve fifty four on the Matt Thomas Show. Girrod,
good afternoon to you.

Speaker 9 (02:02:21):
Good after you and you Matt, how you doing Ross?

Speaker 6 (02:02:24):
Yo?

Speaker 9 (02:02:26):
Hey? But before I talk about breaking it in the Rockets,
I think UH Texas end up with Nick Taylor with
the pastor game coordinated with the Rams. You look at
the assistems coaches that have coached UH with Sean mcvaine,
They've had a lot of success. You know, you got O'donald,
who's had sussis with the Vikings. I think they made
the playoffs two out of the last three years. You

(02:02:46):
had Matt Lefroy, who coached under mcveige. If I'm not mistaken,
he's been to what the NFC Championship game with with
Aon Rodgers and he's won multiple game playoff games UH
with with Jordan Love. So I think that probably be
the best bit to be the Picture Knicks offensive coordinator.
Quick thing about the Astros. The deal that they originally

(02:03:09):
offered of the pregnant was it a five or six
year deal?

Speaker 1 (02:03:12):
Second?

Speaker 9 (02:03:13):
Okay, six year deal he burnt down. I think Alman
gonna end up with the Toronto brew Jays. I think
they have a deal on the table for Bregman, but
I don't think he's really crazy about playing in Canada.
But I think at the end of the day, he's
probably gonna end up taking that deal and playing with
his former Astro teammate George Springer. I think they have
offered him a deal that sixth year that's probably coasted

(02:03:33):
what he's asking for. I don't think it's gonna be
two hundred million, but I think it's probably in the
neighborhood of what the Astros original offer was. So I
think he ends up in Toronto in place when his
former teammate George Springer. Now, as far as the Rockets goes,
there's a big day man. The All Star reserves are
going to be announced. It's gonna be interesting to see
what Rocket makes the team. I'm hoping to make the
team because when you look at the top teams in

(02:03:55):
the NBA, I think Oklahoma City is gonna probably have
two guys on the team at Save got voted in
by the fans, and I think Jaylen William makes it
with Okay See. I think Boston has too, with Taytum
being voted in by the fans. I think they I
think the coaches vote in Jathan Brown, they might even
get another guy, and I think Cleveland probably go en
up with two too. They're gonna have Milchell and probably Mobley,

(02:04:17):
Mobley or Guardland. So with that they in the case
the Rockets being right up there record rise with those
teams this season, I think they should have two players,
and I think the second player should be Jaalen Greens.
I doubt that that would be the case, and lord
as the Western Conference is, but I hope the Rockets
get a two players. I think it's gonna be one
of the two, and if I had to put my
money on, I think Sagon gets voted in. To date,
what do you guys think as far as the Rockets

(02:04:39):
reserves getting announced today?

Speaker 1 (02:04:43):
Thank you Gerard. The answer to that is, as much
as a men Thompson is making a push, I don't
think he's gonna get enough. He's gonna already in the
futures game. I think probably it would be, if anything,
I'll be over Jalen. I don't know if again, who's
to say. I don't know what's gonna happen on that,

(02:05:03):
but I would probably guess Apperan would get it. Although
his january hasn't been as good as jalen january has been.
That makes a big difference or not. I don't, honestly, Ross,
I don't have an opinion because it's already been de tied,
de sided. I don't. No one's sitting around going which
which guys will we get in? Which don't we get in?
But if I was a betting man, I probably would

(02:05:24):
lean towards at this point, neither one of them getting in.

Speaker 3 (02:05:27):
That's what I would bet as well. And we'll see
maybe a couple guys would drop out they get an
injury replacement. Yeah, do they do both under certain circumstances,
deserve to get in.

Speaker 1 (02:05:38):
Absolutely? There are they on the cusp? Are they right
at the line? Sure, but they're not, no doubt about.
It's got to be in there.

Speaker 3 (02:05:48):
I would agree with that. That's okay. It's Rockets team
is just it's a deep, good team with different guys
filling their different roles and doing their jobs. They're not
winning with just one guy taking everything over.

Speaker 1 (02:06:04):
You know me, I mean, I'm such a non all
star guy. It's good for the resume, it's good to
put on the marquee.

Speaker 3 (02:06:11):
But what's the new format. Now they're just playing horse.

Speaker 1 (02:06:14):
I don't know, They're like there's three different teams and
they're playing best I mean, oh yeah, aren't they doing
like three on threes or something? They do it make
it take it or something like that. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:06:22):
That, and when you disagree that, it's call your own.
And when you disagree, you gotta shoot for it.

Speaker 1 (02:06:27):
Yeah, there's shirts and skins, which, again, if you're fat,
you have to worry about your belly rolls hanging out
and stuff.

Speaker 3 (02:06:33):
But you know what, I actually love this pick a
ball culture is the same all across America. You go
to Houston, Texas, Los Angeles, Columbus, Ohio, whatever, you go
to the court, you call your next if you disagree.
First of all, you don't call fouls. If you do
disagree on something, you gotta shoot for it. It's just
I just love to pick up basketball. Culture is like

(02:06:55):
one of the one things in America we could agree on.

Speaker 1 (02:07:00):
Yeah, I'm I'm so checked out on All Stars I
couldn't I couldn't even tell you what what what the
format is.

Speaker 3 (02:07:09):
I think it's four to two, four teams and they're
gonna have a semi final and then a final.

Speaker 1 (02:07:18):
Yeah, I'm not gonna watch I mean watch volleyball and
Washington d C that weekend and I am more.

Speaker 3 (02:07:26):
Yeah, what else are you doing?

Speaker 1 (02:07:28):
Volleyball?

Speaker 3 (02:07:29):
That's that important?

Speaker 1 (02:07:31):
Very important.

Speaker 3 (02:07:32):
She's already committed, that's true. She's a load management. You
know what I'm going up to DC for and I
l deals get your girl taken care of.

Speaker 1 (02:07:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:07:42):
I thought there was supposed to be some kind of
uh uh, some kind of fun that could donate to.

Speaker 1 (02:07:47):
Oh, it's called a goalfund me. We can make that
can happen?

Speaker 3 (02:07:51):
I neither advertising, uh sports, RV's cookies.

Speaker 1 (02:07:56):
Well, how about just your brand? Forget about the cookies,
just your brain.

Speaker 3 (02:08:00):
Why would I hire a teenage girl to build my brand?

Speaker 1 (02:08:04):
Because she's she's gonna become very popular. She's gonna be
the most successful setter in the New England region in
about two years.

Speaker 3 (02:08:10):
What conference is that in?

Speaker 1 (02:08:11):
By the way, Atlantic ten? Oh? A ten? Yeah, let's go.
They throw hands in the A ten? By What I saw?
I saw her a video. I believe it was either
V I think it was VCU and Saint Louis were
playing a basketball game a couple nights ago in Saint Louis. Yes,
massive fight in the stands.

Speaker 3 (02:08:28):
So in addition to volleyball classes, you're gonna get her
into mouy Thai whatever.

Speaker 1 (02:08:33):
But the A ten if you if you come to
the A ten and not wanting to fight, you not
not a real league.

Speaker 3 (02:08:39):
Yeah, I would suggest Brazilian jiu jitsu and or a
Muay thaime at because I mean, eventually these fights probably
gonna go to the ground. Also, tie the hair up
or keep it short.

Speaker 1 (02:08:48):
Hmmm, you're telling me to tell Carly this correct?

Speaker 3 (02:08:50):
Yeah, you know a lot of girls get their hairs
pulled in a fight.

Speaker 1 (02:08:54):
You know, we can put a tattoo in the back
of her neck, it says sports RV. That'd be worth
some nil dollars. That's weird.

Speaker 3 (02:09:00):
Heard you were just you were just selling your daughter
live on air.

Speaker 1 (02:09:06):
Yeah. I mean she's already got her scholarship taken care of.
I gotta get he's gotta I gotta book the flights
for me.

Speaker 3 (02:09:11):
I'm not worried about you. They livestream those bad boys
or what they do.

Speaker 1 (02:09:16):
They're's the ESPN Plus.

Speaker 3 (02:09:18):
What's the A ten network on AESPN Plus? Okay, great,
but I want to see her in person a few.

Speaker 1 (02:09:24):
Times aren't I If you've got the cash, let's go
one o'clock Final Hour. Matt Thomas showed next with Ross
on Sports Talk seventy lunchtimers. This is the Matt Thomas Show.
That's one. Are you thinking Ross? Second? One? Uh?

Speaker 3 (02:09:50):
Sure?

Speaker 1 (02:09:50):
Why not? That's two.

Speaker 3 (02:09:57):
That's probably good.

Speaker 1 (02:10:01):
How would you describe Justin Tucker's accuracy in twenty twenty
four during the season, A lot of hooks to the left,
not nearly as effective as in previous years.

Speaker 3 (02:10:18):
Correct, Yes, fell off a cliff.

Speaker 1 (02:10:22):
No, he actually did well in the playoffs. Playoffs at
what I saw. Well, maybe a reason rossing.

Speaker 3 (02:10:31):
He missed eight field goals in the regular season, but.

Speaker 1 (02:10:36):
I felt like a lot of those were at least
early in the year.

Speaker 3 (02:10:37):
But I don't know that his lowest field goal percentage ever.

Speaker 1 (02:10:43):
Justin Tucker has been accused of inappropriate behavior by six
Baltimore area massage therapists geez Sex. According to the Baltimore Banner, which.

Speaker 3 (02:10:58):
Is like a it's like an independent newspaper.

Speaker 1 (02:11:03):
It says local news you can trust, report stories that
make Maryland better. Yeah, it's a says Ravens Kicker. Justin
Tucker's behavior was so egregious. The two massage therapists say
they ended his session early. Two spas. They have said
they have banned him. Oh my god.

Speaker 3 (02:11:26):
Deshaun Watson says six is light work. That's a weekend
for him. Oh allegedly.

Speaker 1 (02:11:34):
Allegedly. Okay, so here's the question. How long will it
take for a certain Houston attorney to be on a
plane to Baltimore Airport tonight?

Speaker 3 (02:11:47):
Hmmm, yeah, we haven't heard of any lawsuits being filed.

Speaker 1 (02:11:50):
That's right.

Speaker 3 (02:11:51):
One of the therapists said, quote, I've told people about
this over the years. They either act like it's hot
gossip or a joke, but it was really degrading.

Speaker 18 (02:12:00):
Mm.

Speaker 3 (02:12:01):
Tucker's attorneys say that he has not been banned from
the spas. They also denied he ever. Mm ever, what
let's say climax? I don't know, Oh God, at a SPA.
I guess we could use the scientific term it is radio.

Speaker 1 (02:12:24):
Climax is a we can use.

Speaker 3 (02:12:27):
Mister Tucker has never behaved inappropriately during any massage therapy session,
and certainly never in the manner described.

Speaker 1 (02:12:33):
Okay, so let's deduce this here. I mean not that
Deshawn's case is the same as Justine everybody's treated individually differently. Correct,
But Baltimore is a major metropolitan city, but it's not
so big that you can't Professional athletes are creatures of habit. Okay.

(02:12:57):
They work in one area, they live in another, And
you don't like in your own life, you don't like Ross.
You don't run to Katie to go shopping one week
and the next week and you go to sugar Land
the next week you come to King would really you're
pretty much who you are. You stay in the same
circumference of where you normally are.

Speaker 3 (02:13:15):
Oh, it's so bad. When you live in the suburbs,
you're like anything. If something is like fifteen minutes away,
it's next door. When you live in the city, if
something is fifteen minutes away, I'm like, I'm not even bothering. Yeah,
i won't even go. If something's more than a mile away,
I'm like, nah, I'm good.

Speaker 1 (02:13:29):
So here's my point of this. There would be no
need to go to six different therapists.

Speaker 3 (02:13:36):
Well, I think it might be at the couple of
the spas.

Speaker 1 (02:13:41):
Okay, oh, okay, okay, that makes sense. That makes sense.
So he's going to the same If he's going to
the same one, or two spas, and there's six different
therapists there. Now they could all be in uh as
a court. That coersion, that could be a co something.
What's the timp of thing cooperating? All puts cohorts.

Speaker 3 (02:14:02):
Hoots, co hoots, Ravens Kicker Justin Tucker engaged in inappropriate
behavior at four high end spas and wellness centers in
the Baltimore region.

Speaker 1 (02:14:12):
According to there's still too many.

Speaker 3 (02:14:14):
According to six massage there. Well, if you get kicked
out of two, matt you gotta go to two more.
I've lived in Houston for forty of my fifty two years.

Speaker 1 (02:14:25):
Uh huh, I've been to two places in my life
to get a massage, two.

Speaker 3 (02:14:29):
And they banned you from both. Correct.

Speaker 1 (02:14:31):
No, they love me, they're both. I go in, I
sit down, I close my eyes, they do the massage.
I get out.

Speaker 3 (02:14:36):
Period inappropriate behavior, including exposing his genitals, brushing two of
them with his exposed member, and leaving what they believed
to be what we talked about on the massage table
after three.

Speaker 1 (02:14:51):
Oh no, you didn't go there. I didn't. This is
this is scientific. This is not me.

Speaker 3 (02:14:57):
I mean, it is the story. It's a news story.
Is the sports story. Yeah, what the heck? Justin Tucker.
I thought he was supposed to be a choir boy.
Literally he sings opera.

Speaker 1 (02:15:09):
Is he married?

Speaker 3 (02:15:10):
I thought? Didn't he a devout Catholic?

Speaker 1 (02:15:19):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (02:15:20):
Well yeah, he makes a sign of a devout Catholic,
makes a sign of the cross before every kick traffic.
Classically trained bass baritone sing opera in seven different languages,
married his wife in twenty fifteen. They have a son.

Speaker 1 (02:15:36):
All right, remember, just like we did earlier, and it's
until proven guilty. Yes, but apparently there's one law for
gonna be a flying to Baltimore later today.

Speaker 3 (02:15:50):
Amanda bass is his wife, Ronnie but Bomsey maybe a
headed to Baltimore for free. Good job, Matt.

Speaker 1 (02:16:01):
Well.

Speaker 3 (02:16:02):
The couple met at the University of Texas, he and Amanda.

Speaker 1 (02:16:06):
Anywhere, anyway, we can go to Amanda during all this.

Speaker 3 (02:16:09):
You can try to reach out to her. Probably not
gonna go well for you.

Speaker 1 (02:16:12):
Mm hmm. All right, there you go. So once again,
more Texas athletes getting in trouble.

Speaker 3 (02:16:21):
Right this this is terrible. Yeah, it's Terry Rosier didn't
go to Texas.

Speaker 1 (02:16:32):
He wanted to though. Stop when there's when there's a
criminal behavior. There's some sort of University of Texas connection. Somehow,
some way.

Speaker 3 (02:16:40):
That's not true.

Speaker 1 (02:16:41):
Who was the guy that was always going into people's
house and stealing their computers? Who was that? What? There
was a Texas player? Uh? I don't know that that
stole a computer from somebody's apartment complex.

Speaker 3 (02:16:55):
Uh uh you're are you thinking about Cam Newton he
stole a laptop?

Speaker 1 (02:17:00):
No, No, this is somebody UT that did something like that.
When was this It's gotta be about ten years ago.
I think I don't recall that never happened. I'm gonna
look at it. Won't take me a long look on Google.
UT athletes steals something, steals computer. Let's see here, we'll
figure it out. All right. So those of you there

(02:17:20):
justin Tucker fans, Ross being number one of them. I mean,
if there's anybody that carries his flag, it's gonna be
Ross Philer Reale.

Speaker 3 (02:17:27):
I'm not gonna support this guy. If he's a predator, God.

Speaker 1 (02:17:30):
Bless it all right. Seven one three two one two
five seven ninety seven one three two one two five
seven ninety Not really much what we can say about
this except everybody ran to Twitter as soon as descended
to us Ross for something. We got a lot of
mentions of this one, a lot of benches for him.
Thank god, you have h players behave themselves when they

(02:17:52):
go to the NFL. Shure very happy.

Speaker 3 (02:17:55):
About that, You mean when the program's kind of getting
NCAA infractions for not taking their tests.

Speaker 1 (02:18:00):
One fourteen on Sports Talk seven ninety seven one three
two one two five seven.

Speaker 2 (02:18:04):
Nintie Matt Thomas, Ross Viuriel is The Matt Thomas Show
with Ross on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (02:18:17):
He may don't just going to join us to ten
minutes here on The Matt Thomas Show with Ross, Sports
Talk seventy. We don't need one thing we really had
not discussed in the last couple days. I don't know
if you guys did so, yesterdor not was some of
the comments that Dana Brown had about Ryan Presley and
how their relationship deteriorated after the Josh Hater signing win.

(02:18:38):
In doubt, Ross, I think what we've learned from this
is no matter how much money you make, no matter
how much fame and fortune you've ever had, everybody stills
an ego. And it obviously bummed out Ryan Presley so
much that it. It did affect his performance in twenty
twenty four, and say all the things you want about

(02:19:03):
being a good teammate. I got no problems. Josh and
I get along well. He flipped that, literally flipped out,
but he was definitely bent by this.

Speaker 3 (02:19:13):
Yeah, but I don't think that affect him on the field.
And he's as old and he's fast. His fastball doesn't
work as much as it did the last two.

Speaker 1 (02:19:20):
Years, but he but he's basically you know, he said, Yeah,
we weren't the same.

Speaker 3 (02:19:24):
Yeah, I have that if you'd like to hear it please.

Speaker 10 (02:19:28):
I think the relationship took a slightly different turn. You know,
anytime you take a major league player out of a
role where they feel comfortable, you know, I think it's
you know, it's gonna fracture your relationships some. I think
we continue to communicate. He's just true professional, you know,

(02:19:49):
and I kept it real as a true professional myself,
and so ultimately, you know, I wouldn't say it was
the same as when we first met. I think there
was some frustration, which I would totally understand from a competitor.
You know, you're moving a guy at a position who
felt like he didn't deserve to lose his job.

Speaker 1 (02:20:10):
And you know because you.

Speaker 10 (02:20:11):
Acquired you know, uh in another elite closer like a hater,
and so you know, the whole purpose in doing all
that was to really lock down the back end. And
so I know, in his heart of hearts, he wanted
to close. And so you know we've we've had conversations
about it, and so I would I would definitely say that.

(02:20:33):
You know, things were different, but we kept it professional
and you know we got through it.

Speaker 1 (02:20:39):
When reached out by Ryan Presley, I m f the
guy every chance I could. No, he didn't say that,
but you know he was thinking of it.

Speaker 3 (02:20:48):
I mean, come on, Ryan, let's get real.

Speaker 1 (02:20:50):
John, you're again this is nothing I disagree with you,
but you got to realize the athlete, everybody has a
higher appreciated themselves.

Speaker 3 (02:21:00):
Yeah, it happens in this business too. It's fine, said
the two seven money. I've seen it, but at the
same two brother, let's get real, Ryan Presley, Let's look
at the numbers. Come on, now, I had been throwing
well for two straight years.

Speaker 1 (02:21:18):
And he wasn't as good as Josh Hater.

Speaker 3 (02:21:21):
Dude like refuse to throw a fastball for two years,
not really, but you know what I'm saying, I mean
the curveball whip numbers up, e r A plus down,
I mean e r A up. Well, the last two
years at least as ERI wasn't as bad as year before.

Speaker 1 (02:21:39):
So let's just let's put this in perspective. He didn't
lose any salary. He got his ten year veteran playing
service time service time, so for him, full benefits for
when he retires. He still got to put the uniform on.
He's still pitched in crucial moments. And now today's baseball world,

(02:22:01):
the eighth inning is just as much as important as
the ninth thinning. Is it just is so. While again
he wasn't technically the closer, and technically there was a
guy behind him in the bullpen that was making more money.
But Josh Hayter was lights out and has been when
good year last year, Nut's p attack up but very good.

Speaker 3 (02:22:19):
He was very good in safe situations.

Speaker 1 (02:22:21):
Yeah, tie game's not so much.

Speaker 3 (02:22:24):
That's okay. And now Presley is going to compete for
the closing job. Yeah with that young kid, what's his
name something Hodge, So poor a Hodge.

Speaker 1 (02:22:34):
But it is still a huge ego who moved hit,
and some guys can get past it and say, you
know what, I'm thirty something years old, my best days
are behind us. I'm happy to be on this roster,
happy to be in a winning team, and the other
people are like, I did nothing not to get this opportunity.

Speaker 3 (02:22:51):
You feel like though, I mean, especially in baseball, Like look,
if you want to argue that, you know, there's two
people on the sales staff like, oh, I'm better than her.
She's got lucky, she's got those easy leads. I are
here or whatever, like Ryan Prest. Look at the numbers, bro.
It's very it's very much easier to see who's better
when especially pitching numbers to me. And so I mean,

(02:23:15):
I'm sorry, you're not You're not as good as Ryan,
as Josh Hater.

Speaker 1 (02:23:19):
Yeah, by the way, coming up, and we got email
Doka in the next segment. We're not gonna believe it
or not today because we have no prizes and Ross
is just not feeling great.

Speaker 3 (02:23:26):
So we're gonna give you a break here. Appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (02:23:28):
I do have a broadcasting story that is just like
this Ryan Press situation. That's called a forward forward tease,
and it's pretty funny and it's very accurate, honestly, Mile
Hamilton and Harry Carey, well just kidding, And no, I

(02:23:55):
wouldn't put it in that category, but there is one
broadcaster is like, I deserve to be back on top,
and I'm going to make sure you know that. We'll
tell you about that and again. About twenty minutes from now,
Ema A. Dook is going to join us next to
talk some Rockets basketball, Rockets and the Grizzlies fourth and
final time this year. Houston coming in to tonight with

(02:24:16):
a record of thirty two and fourteen. Rossie, I'm just
gonna say that one more time real quick. The Rockets
are thirty two and fourteen and hungry and fourteen and
have beaten Cleveland twice, Oklahoma City once, Denver once.

Speaker 3 (02:24:38):
Boston, Boston, Boston once, the Knicks, I mean against the
upper echelon teams in the NBA.

Speaker 1 (02:24:49):
The Rockets are kicking ass against Charlotte more than one
pistons one and one. But that's the last loss of Rockets, Tam,
Remember it was that was that was current mlkd.

Speaker 3 (02:25:04):
Right him, like twenty two in the third quarter or
whatever it was.

Speaker 1 (02:25:09):
Don't bring that up. Sorry, Rockets had won four straight games.
What are talking about?

Speaker 4 (02:25:13):
King?

Speaker 1 (02:25:13):
Great? All right, it's gonna join us. Next we'll talk
to him. And then I've got the story about one
TV broadcaster saying I want my top spot back. That's
the next half hour here on the Matt Thomash Old Ross.
This is Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 2 (02:25:26):
Ninety lunchtimers, lunch timers, It's the Matt Thomas Show with
Ross on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (02:25:39):
One thirty on Sports Talk seven ninety. Coming up in
just seven short hours, the Rockets will take on the
Memphis Grizzlies here in the mid South, and Emo Doka
is with us here on the program. Coach, good afternoon.
These eight thirty games kind of push everything back schedules, right,
you got time for napt this afternoon.

Speaker 18 (02:26:00):
Yeah, a little pickle ball, a little nap, a little walk,
extra time.

Speaker 1 (02:26:04):
Not much else to do in Memphis, so we'll take it.
I'm assuming Rafel will be a part of this pick
a ball throw down.

Speaker 18 (02:26:13):
No, he's superstitious. He doesn't like to play on game days.
So I'm to find some other guys.

Speaker 1 (02:26:17):
Okay, so who if you guys are the two best
pickleball players, who's the next best in the traveling group tokey,
let's just leave it at that. Who's the worst. Let's
let's give me something. Let's have some real dirt going here, coach.
A lot of guys, so, oh good, that's good. Hey,

(02:26:39):
congratulations so far it has been really fun. The two
Cleveland wins, the Boston victory. Uh, and I'll say this,
look Atlanta game, Let's be honest, coach, that thing was
ugly as all get out, but you're able to survive it.
That is that sometimes some of your most difficult coaching
and getting guys fired up after that emotional win, the
tough back to back and then having to go against
Atlanta team which is still in the playoff chase, but

(02:27:00):
you're going from you know, Atlanta to obviously a championship
caliber team like the Celtics.

Speaker 18 (02:27:07):
Yeah, I mean, it was a tough stretch and obviously
the postpone game, we had to squeeze it back in there,
and so where we would have had two days of
rest after Boston and before tonight, you know, we had
to squeeze that game in and make it three and fortnights.
So understanding, guys are going to be fatigued somewhat you know,
obviously a hard fought game in Boston, and you know
you get in two three in the morning and have
to get your energy and everything up again. So for us,

(02:27:29):
it's what we want to be going forward and everybody
else to deal with these things throughout the season, and
we rely on our depth and energy and the goals
that we set to kind of propel us through certain
through certain things. And I think you know, the first
half was up and down, back and forth a little bit.
We felt we didn't play our best until only be
down one was a good sign. So got to go

(02:27:50):
in third quarter, obviously built a lead in the fourth court,
and then it kind of slipped away at the end.
And want to avoid those. You know, we've gotten leads
this year, and that was how can we maintain and
finish games?

Speaker 1 (02:28:01):
And Jay Sean Tait, a guy who've used in different spurts,
I mean, comes up with sixteen points. That was good,
But let's go back to the night before and everywhere
we go this year, it feels like, especially when you're
taking on some of these upper echelon teams, you're asked about,
is this a measuring stick?

Speaker 3 (02:28:17):
You know, playing Cleveland, playing Boston, give the answer to
what those mean to you? Is it just one of
eighty two on the scorecard? Do the players get extra
juice for it?

Speaker 1 (02:28:28):
I know obviously Dylan was extra excited about winning the game.
Your thoughts about how you get your guys ready for
those teams that are, you know, quote unquote potential championship contenders?

Speaker 18 (02:28:40):
Yeah, I think in general, you know, the teams that
you want to measure yourself against. You know, if we
want to be a really good team, we need to
handle our business against the lesser teams.

Speaker 1 (02:28:49):
I think we've done that for the most part. A
few slip ups early in.

Speaker 18 (02:28:52):
The season, but the higher excelon teams, you know, we
understand the challenge that that brings and where we want
to get to, we have to beat those teams. So
naturally they all count as one regardless, but guys get
up for a certain matchup, certain games and national TV
games and those things of those nature, and so that's
going to happen.

Speaker 3 (02:29:10):
But the message, more so than that is just to.

Speaker 18 (02:29:12):
Be who we are in every game we play, and
that's good enough to beat every team. And so did
that against Cleveland, did that against Boston, And the message
after that is did not have that natural letdown, and
you know, it's a waste of game if we get
one back against a lesser team. So as ugly as
it could be at times, you have to grind your
way through those and I think that's why the Atlanta game,

(02:29:33):
pulling it out and hanging on for the win, was
just as good as a Boston game.

Speaker 1 (02:29:36):
They all count as one.

Speaker 18 (02:29:37):
And to beat a good team like Boston and Louise
Atlanta would have been a letdown.

Speaker 9 (02:29:43):
For us for sure.

Speaker 3 (02:29:44):
Rocketed coach Ima Adoka was here on Sports Talk seven
ninety and we're just reaching the obligatory of men Thompson
part of the conversation getting a lot in the national
recognition and finally getting noticed, it feels like nationally just
in this season alone, what do you think has been
the biggest growth in his game that you've seen from him?
And if you could give us something that you think

(02:30:04):
that you would like to see him improve, I would
say his.

Speaker 18 (02:30:08):
Confidence and aggressiveness more so, you know, all that was
hampered by the injury last year and then not being
available at times, and so when he has been able
to play and he can get his minutes up and
get him the opportunities. He's been really good, and he
showed a pretty quick jump in his skill set and
understanding of the game. And now he's taking that, you know,
using all his physical abilities, learning on the fly and

(02:30:31):
just being extra aggressive and confident, understanding who he is
in the league and how teams are scheming and trying
to guard him.

Speaker 1 (02:30:37):
And so that's one thing with him.

Speaker 18 (02:30:39):
I think a big thing for our team in general is,
you know, the IQ piece we talk about. You know,
guys have all these tools, and how can we play
together as a team, you know, sacrifice and then you know,
just IQ picking up the nuances of the game that
he has to learn on the fly. You know, it's
only you know, a year and a half in and
he's asked to do a lot of different things than
he has been in the past, with the ball on
and off the ball, the ball out of his hands,

(02:31:01):
and guarding all these different positions. So we're throwing a
lot at him understanding what he has to do one
through five on defense and offense, and I think that's
getting better as we go.

Speaker 3 (02:31:09):
And speaking of guys getting better, Jalen Green, we know
he had that big stretch where he was scoring a
lot of points and has n't been doing so as
much the last few games as far as the shooting,
But in that game against Atlanta, I was impressed by
him not shooting threes but still being aggressive in contributing
other ways and getting to the basket.

Speaker 18 (02:31:29):
Yeah, they switched a lot of those actions to take
him off three point line or they brought the big
up very high obviously, kind of a semi trap. And
teams have done that to him this year, and he
just has to understand when he can pick his spots
but also kind of be a decoy and get others involved.
And so his understanding of that has been much better
this year throughout. And yeah, sometimes he just has to

(02:31:50):
pick a spot so let other guys go to work
and it opens everything up for him, and then he
still has his spurts that he can go off and
end up with twenty five obviously, and really carried us
through the third quarter when we were strug a little bit.

Speaker 1 (02:32:01):
It is a man's twenty second birthday today. Did you
get him a gift or are you just like happy birthday?
Move on?

Speaker 18 (02:32:07):
Just happy birthday from all the from all the first
time Houston Rockets. So him and og OG's birthday was yesterday,
so they got a duel one that shuit around and
know they can get their own gifts, but just singing
to him on the biggest singing to him one time
and we'll try to get away from tonight.

Speaker 1 (02:32:25):
I like that idea. Hey, I know that a man's
going to play in the Rising Stars. I know that
there's a couple of Rockets would be obvious say Jalen
and Alpi for alsart consideration. What does that mean that
they're in the conversation to you? You know, Look, this
team's not had a lot of national attention. I think
you're going to start to get a lot more of it.
And that's good because it means teams are recognizing what

(02:32:46):
this team has done. But to talk about where they
are today than maybe when you first got them here
as a Houston Rocket, I say.

Speaker 18 (02:32:53):
It means for them recognition and credit for what they've
done for our team. You look at the standings, I
think you have to take winning into account, and obviously
Alpi and Jalen have been huge as far as a
credit toward our winning scoring, shouldering the load at times,
and and yeah they're they're getting rewarded just by being
in the conversation. Hopefully they both are have an opportunity

(02:33:15):
of playing. And so for us, it's it's good to
get that recognition. Like I said, winning puts everybody on
the on the map, so to speak. And you know,
you get the higher televised games, you get national TV games,
you get great matchups, and so for us, it's really
continue to do what you've done to get us here.

Speaker 1 (02:33:32):
We know what you do.

Speaker 18 (02:33:33):
Maybe not everybody else yet, but they're starting to see.
And then you know, Jalen and Alpi have both shouldered
the load at some point this season. Now everybody else
kind of is being incorporated and adding more.

Speaker 1 (02:33:44):
To the picture.

Speaker 18 (02:33:44):
And I think that's where our depth comes in. We
don't have to rely on one guy every night. But
I'm in one night, Fred, one night, Dylan one night,
and that's a beauty of our team. So the recognition
is good, but we got to continue to get better
throughout the second half of the season.

Speaker 1 (02:33:58):
I know there are a couple of guys that showed
up on the injury report. Where are we right now,
I know we're still several hours away from tip time,
but we're house the roster shaping up with this evening.

Speaker 18 (02:34:08):
Got some soortness, had had some last game. We tried
to monitor, you know, with the back to back and
understanding this time of the year, three games and four nights,
you have to be cautious of those things.

Speaker 1 (02:34:18):
A man has some soortness a few games ago. Alpi
had his calf last game.

Speaker 18 (02:34:22):
So we tried to monitor that and any chance we
can get Fred and Dillon some limited you know, shave
some minutes off their total, that's a great thing as well.
So right as of now, it doesn't look great for Alpi,
and he's had some soortness for sure, got hit in
the calf last game. But we'll figure that out as
we go, and we'll know before the game, but have

(02:34:42):
obviously contingency plans with matchups and lineups that we want
to go to in case he can't play.

Speaker 1 (02:34:47):
Memphis is scoring a boatload of points. You've seen him
already three times. It feels like, uh, just a few
weeks ago we were here. You like the matchup with them,
obviously three and oh is great, but what do they
possess in their game that inspires your guys to step
up with a challenge and trying to knock off a
team that's number one scoring the association. YEA, have some

(02:35:08):
really high quality players.

Speaker 3 (02:35:09):
Obviously it starts there.

Speaker 1 (02:35:10):
You know, you got Marie, you got bang.

Speaker 18 (02:35:12):
Jared Jackson Junior is leading away for them this year,
and so you got a lot of guys that can
impact the game for them.

Speaker 1 (02:35:18):
But they do some similar things to what we do
their second.

Speaker 18 (02:35:21):
Offensive, rebounding behind us and shift and face and transition
basket so and it comes a lot of turnovers, so
you know, take care of the ball, limiting their transition
opportunities and making them score in the half courts kind
of paramount for us. But even in the games against
them this year, we built leads and then got a
little sloppy of times and they got back into those
leads due to those things and have to be more
on point with that.

Speaker 1 (02:35:42):
Tonight, coach, thank you for the physic congratulations on the
great run and we'll look forward to seeing you later
on tonight inside the FedEx form for the game against Grizzlies.
Appreciate it as always, Thank you guys, you got that's
you may Doka, whether it's here on the Matt Thomas
Show with Rossi with us every week, could be back
with US again next Thursday, but for the Rockets take
on the Minnesota Timberwolves. I don't know what happened. Roski's

(02:36:03):
we're gonna I haven't seen you in months. But we
have one home game on Saturday against Brooklyn and then
back on the road for another week. Wow. Who's who's
scheduled this? Uh? The NBA.

Speaker 3 (02:36:15):
Damn they're testing the Rockets and they're passing right now
with flying colors, flying colors.

Speaker 1 (02:36:19):
This team is seventeen and six on the road. Did
we even win seventeen games last year on the road period?
I'm gonna say no, I'll go back and look, there's
no We'll take the under. Yeah, all right, we come
back and NFL broadcaster said, I want my top spot back.
I don't care how I need to tell about it
either on Sports Talk seven. I need to Matt Thomas Show.

(02:36:40):
The ros continues next.

Speaker 3 (02:36:43):
Cougar's coach Kelvin Sampson. Here, you're listening to the Matt
Thomas Show on Sports Talk seven to ninety.

Speaker 1 (02:36:52):
Deg Crabs to are Houston. Cougar's knocking off West Virginia
remained undefeated in the Big twelve home Saturday for Texas
to good night of basketball in our town Friday Saturday night.
We've got Texas Tech versus Houston at five, the Rockets
plate seven against Brooklyn. Rossie, We're a basketball town.

Speaker 3 (02:37:12):
Let's go say it right now, Yeah, basketball town, basketball town?

Speaker 1 (02:37:19):
All right?

Speaker 17 (02:37:20):
I got you tell the crowd out there in Memphis, Matt.
Is that Randy mckelfoy. Ideally, I'd like you to tell
me how the crowd is right now, Randy.

Speaker 1 (02:37:30):
It's gonna be full. It'll be a little bit later.
We're starting an eight thirty five local time, could be
eight forty depending up. The NBA slides this a little bit.

Speaker 17 (02:37:36):
Hey, I'm taking next weekend off. Me and Tammy have
a day for Valentine's Can you cover sports Sunday? I'm
gonna be out of town, all right, you gotta go?

Speaker 1 (02:37:46):
All right, thanks.

Speaker 3 (02:37:47):
Randy, Thank you, Randall, Randall Mackle, Randall McAvoy on a
mobile using a in studio mic.

Speaker 1 (02:37:54):
About that you ready for the Little Star time? Ross?

Speaker 2 (02:37:58):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (02:37:59):
Yes.

Speaker 3 (02:38:00):
By the way, Justin Tucker, we can get to what
we have a little time on the show. Justin Tucker
has released his statement.

Speaker 1 (02:38:05):
It says I'm guiltiest charge and I'm sorry.

Speaker 3 (02:38:07):
Yeah, exactly what do you say? Uh, it's like six paragraphs,
So I'll just read the beginning. The allegations in the
Baltimore Banner article about me are unequivocally false.

Speaker 1 (02:38:19):
Good show.

Speaker 3 (02:38:21):
I was always sought to conduct myself with the utmost professionalism,
never before been accused of misconduct of any kind. Blah
blah blah blah blah. Yeah, why is he worried about
getting massages when only get worried? Worried about is his foot?
By the way, speaking of somebody finding old tweets, oh,

(02:38:41):
it's been deleted. What there was a tweet from a woman. Okay,
it's from twenty twenty one said Justin Tucker has been canceled.
It's not my place to say how or why. Oh
it's been deleted now, hmmm recently or within the old

(02:39:02):
twenty twenty one. I literally found it like half an
hour ago.

Speaker 1 (02:39:05):
Oh so in the last half hour has been gone. Wow. Okay,
but you see, you can't do that. If you're if
you've got something, you gonna just say it, don't run
to your Twitter account, just put stuff out there to
flame the situation.

Speaker 3 (02:39:19):
Well, she said in twenty twenty one.

Speaker 1 (02:39:22):
If there's something going wrong in twenty twenty one, go
tell somebody today, not not in.

Speaker 3 (02:39:26):
Three years later, she said it wasn't her place to
say why, but it was her place to go to
her social media account to put it out there.

Speaker 8 (02:39:33):
Mm hmm.

Speaker 1 (02:39:35):
I know of criminal activity, I just can't tell you
what it is. Then I'm not doing that. No respect
there though, And if you know, if activity that's sallacious
that you don't get involved in, then don't put yourself
out there. Don't don't go to social media, don't go
to Facebook, don't tell your best friend, keep it to yourself.

Speaker 3 (02:39:54):
People always put reports with sources and don't say why
or how Matt, So that wasn't.

Speaker 1 (02:39:57):
What that's That wasn't what it was. That was, Hey,
I know he's been canceled. I'm just not gonna tell
you what's going on. That's a person seeking attention.

Speaker 3 (02:40:06):
Well, if it's not there, it's not their place to say, Matt, then.

Speaker 1 (02:40:09):
It's not their place, and then it's not their place.
But on social media. God, I don't know why this
is making you so upset, because I'm sick and tired
of people say there's reporters in our own town. I
could have told you this was gonna happen. Well, then
you did tell us.

Speaker 3 (02:40:21):
Then now we got to the root of it. Okay,
you got that, or she's not a reporter. It was
like some random person. And now that the tweet has
been deleted from twenty twenty one and it was up
literally I saw it like a half hour ago.

Speaker 1 (02:40:32):
I think I saw the exact same when you did.
I just yeah, I don't go. Don't come tell me
something and then not tell me. That's my only point. Well,
just a dumb ass reporter. Well he's not even reporter,
don't even real person, not reporter. I don't know what
he calls himself. I knew about this relationship issue before,
but I couldn't say anything. We Why couldn't you say anything?

(02:40:52):
Then don't tell me that you knew about it beforehand.
I've hit off the record cover Okay, well then good
keep it off the record. Don't come branging about your
off the record when you couldn't go on the record
with it.

Speaker 3 (02:41:02):
I'm sorry I couldn't. I couldn't hear you Gordy and
Adam Planner talking. It is very distracting.

Speaker 1 (02:41:08):
What are they talking about? Is there a show better
than ours? Right?

Speaker 3 (02:41:10):
Now we're literally whispering in here. Stop acting like you
can't double task.

Speaker 1 (02:41:13):
Ross.

Speaker 3 (02:41:14):
It's going brother, there's an open mic radio one O one,
my friend, take it.

Speaker 1 (02:41:22):
Outside, ignore everything around you, and do your show and
act like nothing's happening. Open mic in studio, talk studio.

Speaker 17 (02:41:28):
You can go outside. You know, Matt is better at
this than you. I mean, he's had a full band
go through his show. He didn't break character once, that's true.

Speaker 1 (02:41:37):
Jesus Ross is also sick.

Speaker 4 (02:41:40):
Matt.

Speaker 1 (02:41:41):
I'm gonna go for the final nine minutes of the show. Yeah,
that's fine. I mean if he needs to leave now,
that's fine. Heeds a cod Is he you have the vid? Ross?

Speaker 2 (02:41:51):
No?

Speaker 3 (02:41:52):
I hope not.

Speaker 1 (02:41:54):
By the way, were you were you, Adam? Were you
Gordy talking about our non super Bowl week coverage from normal?

Speaker 17 (02:41:58):
That's actually exactly what we were talking about. But there's
gonna be coverage there is. Ross is dying in the corner.
Please let him leave. He's gonna get all of us sick.
That's fine. I don'na wipe it down. Oh my gosh,
are you but you're in Wex's spot, right, Yeah, I'm
he's He's in Wex's spot.

Speaker 1 (02:42:13):
So WEX is the one that needs to wear a
Hazmak suit. It is not gonna be pleased.

Speaker 3 (02:42:17):
I'm gonna I've been wiping it down in here.

Speaker 1 (02:42:22):
Okay, did.

Speaker 17 (02:42:24):
And no, that wasn't a quote from Justin Tucker. Oh
my god, did you tell him about the AI you
saw on top? I retweeted it.

Speaker 3 (02:42:32):
Some guy sent it to me.

Speaker 1 (02:42:33):
It was pretty funny. Gosh, it's real quick.

Speaker 3 (02:42:35):
It's an AI picture of Robert Kraft, Deshaun Watson, and
Justin Tucker.

Speaker 1 (02:42:41):
That's so wrong on no levels, honestly, all right, real quick?

Speaker 4 (02:42:46):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (02:42:46):
So, Greg Olsen has been making the media rounds ross
over at Fox, or at least as an x NFL player.
He's pissed he's not doing the Super Bowl. He says,
what's it like going from calling the super Bowl to
non call? Not calling the super quote? It sucks. He's
told the people at Fox he's not happy with his
roles and number two analysts behind Tom Brady ouch quote.

(02:43:09):
In my mind, I'm gonna call big time games again.
I'm going to call the Super Bowl games again. I
just don't know the timeline or the venue. He had
one more fun one he had here I got to
see it. Let's see.

Speaker 3 (02:43:22):
Isn't it a ten year deal for Tom Brady? Gonna
be waiting a long time? Greg Olsen, Yes, he says
I was.

Speaker 1 (02:43:29):
I don't want to paraphrase, but I'm running short of
time here. He basically He also paraphrase and sayings, I'm
not I wasn't built to be an analyst on one
o'clock games, which means new in games.

Speaker 3 (02:43:38):
Oh oh here. I've been very honest with him that
I'm not content just calling one o'clock regional games for
the rest of my career.

Speaker 1 (02:43:47):
Ouch, poor, sparrowdedis He's like, I'm calling one o'clock regional games.
I'm fine with it.

Speaker 3 (02:43:56):
I don't think resentment is accurate, but it's hard to
sit there and watch games. Over the last couple of
years you were preparing for and we were calling. Then
you're sitting there on your couch and you're watching the game.

Speaker 1 (02:44:06):
Yeah. He's Normally he'd be calling like forty nine Ers
versus chiefs. Now he's calling Falcons Panthers. He's like, damn,
get me out of this.

Speaker 3 (02:44:15):
Is there anybody on the planet that hates Tom Brady Moore?
It's probably Greg Olsen or Giselle.

Speaker 1 (02:44:22):
It's got to be Greg Olsen because not only did
he get bumped from the top game to the second game,
which apparently is quite a drop for somebody. It's like
it's a Ryan Presley, That's exactly what's true.

Speaker 3 (02:44:31):
That was my comp Yeah, but yeah, but that's it
doesn't work because Josh Hater had skins on the wall
as the best closer and.

Speaker 1 (02:44:40):
Had done a president salary dump either and Jesselle has.

Speaker 3 (02:44:44):
Been grappling with her jiu jitsu instructor, so I guess
she's not that unhappy.

Speaker 1 (02:44:49):
So Greg Olsen's like, I'm the best ged analyst in
this business. I should be doing the GD super Bowl
and I should be doing a GD.

Speaker 3 (02:44:57):
Now he's dropping a lot of gam Yes, and you
remember he would from ten million a year to three million.

Speaker 1 (02:45:01):
That's what I'm saying. Not only did he did he
lose the gig, but he lost the salary too. I mean, Fox, like,
not only are we not going to give you the
top game, we got to take some of your money
away to pay to pay the other guy who doesn't
deserve it. This is an all timer. And first of all,
Greg Olsen is really good just ask him. He'll tell
you how good he is. But he is good. He

(02:45:22):
is really good. I mean he knows what he's doing.
He's smart, he's been he he has prepped this probably
in the final five years.

Speaker 6 (02:45:28):
You know.

Speaker 1 (02:45:28):
He when he was still tied in for the Panthers
on the off weeks with the tech, with the he
was doing games when they weren't playing. That's how good
he is.

Speaker 3 (02:45:38):
Yeah, greg Olsen thinks Greg Olsen is good too.

Speaker 1 (02:45:41):
Greg Olsen thinks that Greg Olsen is spectacular. I will
do a Super Bowl again. Well, oh see when his
deal's up. All right, Ross, I want you to go
to the room at the house. I want you to
meet up a little bit and wake up at about
eight thirty five tonight for Rockets game, listen to the
radio and watch it on TV, and then you and

(02:46:02):
I will get together tomorrow at noon or ten o'clock.

Speaker 3 (02:46:05):
Man, I've got some mambles chunky soup with my name
on it.

Speaker 1 (02:46:08):
Favorite flavor.

Speaker 3 (02:46:10):
Well, I'm just going with chicken noodle.

Speaker 1 (02:46:12):
That's not a bad call. Clam shot would be good too.

Speaker 3 (02:46:15):
And now with a fifty percent more chicken.

Speaker 1 (02:46:18):
Yeah, but it says that real chicken or Is it
like the process.

Speaker 3 (02:46:20):
It's like chicken, elbows and stuff.

Speaker 1 (02:46:22):
It's fine from the guy who highly touts to make
rib get him, get him, Adam. Come on, man, I'm
talking about noot chicken. I don't know. Is it real beef?
I've just done that. You're actually here before the show starts. Hey,
I'm just done. You're hosting your show today. I'm just
stunned that you know where to twelve thirty three westoks
Loops South Is. I'm just stunned that I'm the better

(02:46:43):
of the ball guys on this station. I'm just stunned
that it's next day. For a full four hours, I'm
Sports Talk seven.
