Speaker 1 (00:01):
Yeah, lunchtimers, this is the Matt Thomas Show ten oh
one in h Town.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Good morning, and welcome to a Wednesday edition of The
Matt Thomas Show. At ross from West Palmby, Florida. This
is Sports Talk seven ninety Marlow's three to one.

Speaker 3 (00:20):
It is and Alvarez hits it well and hits it
day to right center.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
There's their good bye over the Astros movement. For the
second straight day. The Astros hit a walk off homer.

Speaker 4 (00:32):
And they beat the Kansas City Royals play a final
of seven to six. Alvarez, his twenty fourth hall run
of the year, is the first walk off hall run
of his big league career.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
Now I'm with the high set a look to second.
Now the pitch Dan McCormick hits it in the year
to right. It sends back McCarthy on the warning track
at the wall.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
Say eletter. We're tied at two.

Speaker 4 (00:57):
Chas McCormick ghost eat a two run up shot, McCormick's
fourteenth of the year two to two.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
Tenth opposite field home run on the season for McCormick,
and none bigger than that. One pitch on the way
breaking ball, and that's hammered.

Speaker 5 (01:13):
Day till that failed, and you bet yes that one
goodbye off. The community later signed three run last for
Jake Myers and the Astros laid five to three.

Speaker 6 (01:24):
Well, you saw the bat coming alive in that series
against the White Sox. It had been a struggle here
in the month of June. But Jake Myers able to
crank that one out ball that was a little bit
in where he likes it, gets it out of here
and the Astros come back and now on top.

Speaker 3 (01:42):
The curveball from Rodriguez, Myers all over it on that
first pitch.

Speaker 7 (01:48):
He can play the hun tongue back anything.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
Two special things open up the show today.

Speaker 8 (01:56):
Won a song with dire Straits we don't play them
a lot of the Graham And second of all, a
June Jake Myers Highlight Sports RV. As a president of
Jake Myers Fan Club, you must be pleased.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
One of the greatest of all time, Jake Myers.

Speaker 8 (02:09):
By the way, we are going to have a meeting
tomorrow the Jake Myers Fan Club. It will be in
the clubhouse tomorrow morning when we get here at o'clock
a local time. So uh, I'm gonna let Ross fawn
over Jake over about three or four minutes tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
I've interviewed him like three times, Matt. Yeah, but we're
gonna do it tomorrow. We're gonna have you had a
fan club meeting yet? No, have you talked about, uh,
the enrollment fees. Have you talked about the by law changes?
There haven't been any bylaw changes. I love Jake, you're in.
That's all. Take you respect Jake. You're in.

Speaker 8 (02:40):
If you love him in May, you better love him
in June, July, August, September.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
It's a little harder to love him in June. Well,
that's when the that's when the club becomes a more
intimate grool. It's easy to love your child when they're
on the honor roll, Matt. You gotta love them too
when they're when they're acting up and when they go
to inol in school suspension. I see it is all right,
turn me up, just a'll scoch here local, Thank you
very much. Okay, how are you all right? I'm doing
good people. For those of you don't know, Matt is
just like he's very nitpicky with his levels.

Speaker 8 (03:07):
Yeah, he takes me do it like I'm in a
little lemon out do it. If you owed me to it,
you are my levels, bitch. But that's a different issue
for a different time. We are here at West Paul
Beach where it is a ridiculously sunny day. It is
still very very windy. So if we get blown away,
it is what it is. It was a good run
while it lasted. I did the pre show tweet outside
one of the many man made lakes outside here of

(03:28):
this ballpark, which is a corporate sponstitude. Since they don't
spend any money with U, they're not gonna get the run.
But uh, the thing that bothers me and I don't
know this. And we'll get to obviously some sports headlines.
We have a lot to get to today. These are
man made little areas that say watch out for gators.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
Yes, stay danger, stay away from the water. Alligators in
the area do not feed the wildlife.

Speaker 8 (03:50):
How do the gators get from inside the gates to
this small area of water?

Speaker 7 (03:57):
Well now, and he held on a floord to Matt
the gate go when a gate is wanna go?

Speaker 2 (04:01):
I mean, do they cross the street at forty Gators.

Speaker 7 (04:03):
Are looking for water. They're looking for places to sunbathe
and for foo. See if they're hungry, the gator's gonna
find the water. Why are we doing, Kate Lafayette Radio,
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
Point being is this.

Speaker 8 (04:14):
You take ninety five, you get off at forty fifth Street,
You take forty fifth street to have a hill, you
turn left, you turn left again into the complex.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
A gator doesn't know that, No, he doesn't. So it
helped me out of that. Coming to check out the games,
the gator's not heading over to see what L two
Bay looks like and left. But how does the gators
get past security? I don't know. Maybe it's just in
case in case of what I think, it'd be humanly
impossible for a for gators to count this there. See

(04:45):
you're you're thinking this from a practical stand of course,
you're not thinking of this from the legal department standpoint. Oh,
I see. They want in a million chances that that
a gator gets over in this little maid made pond
and eats up somebody's toddler, and then you're gonna get
s Matt.

Speaker 8 (05:01):
So if your toddler gets eaten at a spring training game,
it's not on the astros of the Nationals.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
So what you're trying to tell me.

Speaker 8 (05:06):
You're saying, legally, we had to reach the side. We
had our quote unquote basis covered. Yes, exactly.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
These are things I guess. I mean, I'll you know,
same thing. There's one. There's a Marriott at the Orlando
Airport for those who go to Orlando before. Same thing.

Speaker 8 (05:22):
There's a pond next to the airport, next to a runway.
How does the cat get from the runway to the
pond to the airport.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
I don't know. They've lived for five hundred million years,
so they can make it anywhere.

Speaker 8 (05:35):
I get it in the everglade. You gotta worry about it. Yeah,
but I just don't get it here. These are things
I just don't get one.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
Oh, that'll be tomorrow. That'll be tomorrow, all right.

Speaker 8 (05:43):
On the radio program today, you will hear from manager
Joe spont Is gonna comebye and say hello to us
for a few minutes.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
Yes, you will hear from Spencer arrogedy. Spencer arroged it Okay,
I thought it was a more a Spencer attaghatty. Can
we get away from spaghetti puns with? It's too on
the nose, too easy low, So let's make him a
Southern We don't ever take low hanging fruit on this show.

Speaker 8 (06:06):
We are the official low hanging fruit station. Yeah, okay,
here's gonna.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
Spencer arraget it from Savannah, Georgia. No, it doesn't sound right,
sounds like he's from Tuscana. Well I'm trying to change it. Yeah,
you're right, all right, So Spencer, I make it my Irish. Oh,
Spencer heroda Getti from Dublin. From from Belfast. I always
say Dublin, so I'd had to learn other cities in
city from Limerick. Alright, So Spencer Getty's gonna join the

(06:33):
show today.

Speaker 8 (06:34):
Yes, the future third baseman outfielder for the Astros, Camp
Smith's gonna come by.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
Oh, I think you're gonna say Brendan Rodgers. No, I
don't think he's gonna. I don't think he's hearing camp
just yet. The Astros would make a signing yesterday of
Brendan Rodgers, who if you'd walked up and said hi.

Speaker 8 (06:49):
Man, I'm Brendan, I would say, hi, Brendan, what do
you do for a living? And Adis he'd have said, well,
I'm I was a gold Glover with the Colorada Rockies
in twenty twenty two and my ops at course Field
was like eleven hundred.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
I hope yes, outside of course Field for twenty three,
not just making that it's not that stark of a difference,
but it's not great. It's significant, it's not great. So
we'll here from him today.

Speaker 8 (07:11):
We also have shut you up on mass up today
at eleven thirty, but I got time for that as well,
plus the news at noon. And you don't ever know
what's going to happen in surprise guest ideas thoughts, and
we have some interesting Texans off the field news to
get to something.

Speaker 2 (07:26):
Frankly, I knew was gonna happen. I've been predicting it
for a long period of time.

Speaker 8 (07:30):
And the whether it is smoke, there's going to be
eventually be a big fire. And I told you this
before the show started today. As a young man in
this business, I spent basically five years talking about stadiums
and who should pay for them. We might be having
some more of that coming up in the foreseeable future,
so get ready for that.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
It will exhaust you.

Speaker 8 (07:49):
You think arguing about whether or not Matt Schob is
a leak quarterback exhaust you?

Speaker 9 (07:53):
It?

Speaker 2 (07:53):
Did you think about whether or not the astros.

Speaker 8 (07:56):
Should Googe make a tray before the deadline should exhaust you,
you think whether or not out and Shagoon is a
Hall of Famer already going to exhaust you.

Speaker 2 (08:03):
This, this will seriously exhaust you. So that will be
coming up on the radio program The Nay. Plus, it
didn't take long for two old athletes to get exposed
for the frauds that they are. Huh, that's a professional
radio tease. I'm intrigued, Matthew, and.

Speaker 8 (08:22):
I want you to look at it is because when
I when I tell you who is involved, and you
were like, I should have figured this out? Okay, because
I feel stupid for even bringing up a couple of
days ago on the show. We'd love for you to
be a part of our radio program at seven one
three two one two five seven ninety seven one three
two one two five seven ninety If you want to
visit with us through Twitter, you may do that as
well at Sports Empty, at Sports RV, and at Connor

(08:44):
d McGovern headlines. Here today, nothing really uh notable, except
for when Josel Tube makes his debut in spring training.
He'll be probably be penciled in as a leadoff hitter
that's no surprise. No, but the surprise will be he
will be penciled in in the seventh position on their scorecard,
which is left field.

Speaker 2 (09:03):
But if a surprise, But Joe Spot is saying today,
that is what's going to happen. And will that game
bel TV, I don't know. I don't know which well
they haven't decided.

Speaker 8 (09:12):
When I know where you can catch it all the
games live and tape delay on Sports Talk set every game,
every single game, Yes, even I believe the Space Cowboy
games too. Really like the two games they play love season.
So we are your home for Astros base.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
All one sixty two regular season. And of course I
think what of the we had two postseason games last year? Yeah,
it was two, could have been ten, should have been ten.
We'll talk more about that.

Speaker 8 (09:39):
Uh but the reality is this, and I'm not kidding
you when I say this. You you're always trying to
find some storylines. There is no other storyline than the
right side of the infield. Who's gonna play the most
second base, which I think is at this point is
gonna be probably more iCIO Dubon and who and how
how two Bay is gonna be in a left field

(09:59):
that can you tell me, am I missing anything at
this point?

Speaker 2 (10:01):
I mean minor storyline. But you know what, well as
the radio professionals, we are, Matt right, we're trying to
find different ten that that is not the top storyline. Okay,
what would it be? H maybe Chas McCormick in right field?

Speaker 8 (10:16):
To me, the other the only storyline beyond that is
staying in the outfield. Will McCormick be able to hold
on the right field, Will Jake Myers.

Speaker 2 (10:27):
Bat be able to hold him into center field?

Speaker 8 (10:29):
And the reality is if those three and I'm including
al two be in the mix, can't defensively and offensively
produce and I think I'll obviously I will still be
able to do that. Are you looking in a situation
where you might have to go bring up a minor
leaguer the one of the phenoms sooner than maybe they're ready.
I don't think they'll do it sooner, but I got
the impressure from Dana and we've talked to him on
the show yesterday that there will be no holding back,

(10:51):
There'll be no none of this. Well, I gotta watch
for a Super two time or worry about his clock.
They know that the outfield as it currently put is
put together is not something probably for the long term.

Speaker 2 (11:01):
I don't know if Jake.

Speaker 8 (11:02):
Myers and Chas McCormick would feel that way at this point,
but the reality is they're gonna get every opportunity to
be the starting out feel for the foreseeable future until
those guys we've talked about, uh, the Bryce Matthews, the
Jacob Meltons, the camp Smith's are ready to come contribute
to the major league level.

Speaker 2 (11:20):
I believe you are correct, and he is going to.
Dana Brown has a track record of being aggressive and
we expect it to continue.

Speaker 8 (11:26):
Yeah, all right, seven one, three, two, two, five, seven nine.
If you've got something astra related you want to talk
about today on the show, we are here for you.

Speaker 2 (11:33):
Again.

Speaker 8 (11:33):
We are ninety percent about what's happening, uh with the
baseball team because we are here in West Palm Beach.
But there is an interesting story today in the Houston
Chronicle that we'll discuss when we return, and it's about
that certain facility in a dumpy part of Houston Great
Stadium needs improvements.

Speaker 2 (11:52):
Do you want to pay for it? No? Or do
you want a new palace? And if you build the palace,
who will pay for it? What's the segment we have
signature on Wednesday's Matt, shut your bumbass? Yeah yeah, okay,
are you gonna tell your favorite team their ownership? I
have battle red Rye. Stay. We'll get to it and

(12:12):
then we'll let you hold on to your commentary.

Speaker 8 (12:14):
Well, we may not be able to do that. Seven one, three, two, two, five,
seven ninety. Matt and Ross with you from West Palm Beach.
As you listen to sports Talk seven ninety, this.

Speaker 1 (12:23):
Is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross on four Talk
seven ninety.

Speaker 8 (12:33):
Matt and Ross with you from West Palm Beach. Lots
of astro chatter over the next three hours and forty.

Speaker 2 (12:41):
Minutes of this radio but we go four hours.

Speaker 1 (12:43):
Wow, love it.

Speaker 2 (12:44):
People love us so much they need four hours of
this radio show. We're like the extended edition of Lord
of the Rings movies. Four hours. Let's go. Yeah.

Speaker 8 (12:53):
You know when the Today Show went to four hours,
they they broke it up. They had different people host
the final hours of the show. They have like Jenna
Bush hosts the show for Ye's.

Speaker 2 (13:01):
Because you about Jeb Bush, I don't think I think
Jem's and government so at least once. All right, So
I've been telling you folks about this for quite some
period of time, and it's not because I'm not an
insider on this. I just read the tea leaves, right,
you read tea leaves correct sometimes and.

Speaker 8 (13:19):
I see things and hear things and put two and
two together and most times I get five. But John Alexander,
who's on the Texans beat, writes a story alongside there
was somebody else that writes.

Speaker 2 (13:32):
It with them. It's kind of weird. Oh, Dylan, Dylan's limerick.
I feel like We'rennan McGinnis on the show. Occasionally we'll
have a pint to talk about some Texans stadiums.

Speaker 8 (13:51):
So they have an exclusive story which is no longer
exclusive because we're gonna be talking about it the Houston.
Here's the headline, the Houstons may seek public money to
build new football stadium.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
I knew this was gonna happen. They did an internal study.

Speaker 8 (14:13):
Now again I don't know if it was audited by anybody,
if they really went outside of it. That says that,
And again I'm just having to paraphrase a little bit here.
The story is available on the chronicle. They're saying over
the next thirty years of the stadium. It's going to take.

Speaker 2 (14:28):
One point four billion dollars in renovations. Wow.

Speaker 8 (14:33):
Okay, so again, I don't know who's verifying that this
has just done a decision. This was a according to
a recent assessment. And what they want is they want
all the bells and whistles of the new stadiums. You've
a new stadium in Minneapolis, you have a new stadium
coming up in Buffalo. You've got Sofi Stadium in Los Angeles,
You've got Allegiance Stadium in Las Vegas. The super Dome

(14:56):
just spent five hundred and sixty million dollars to renovate
their facility. And that's a second renovation since Katrina. So
they've had two different.

Speaker 2 (15:03):
Renovations since NRG has not been renovated. Correct, energy has
not gone through renovation, and renovation is what the world
goes around. Kyle Field, Darryl k Royle. Yes, all these
old majestic stadiums for Tita Center. Not for Tita Center.

Speaker 8 (15:19):
The Toyta Center is about to go through a rebuild. Oh,
in the next couple years. You've already seen the scoreboard.
You're gonna see more additions.

Speaker 2 (15:25):
And look shelf life structurally is one thing. Bells and
whistles ross are another.

Speaker 8 (15:32):
Okay, and NRG has zero bells and whistles compared to
the other places. Uh huh, Well, Halen Canna Cal, I
should call him Kla Hannah and Cal traveled every game.

Speaker 2 (15:46):
Yes, they get to see what other stadiums are doing
when Hanna is not sleeping like she was at Soldier Field.

Speaker 8 (15:53):
Yeah, sh that was a while ago. She's been wide
awake ever since. That's in fact, she's so wide awake
to go Cal. We need some modern amenities.

Speaker 2 (16:03):
Yes, And you ask why do they need those modern amenities.
It's because they want to be considered for things like
the Olympics, the World Cup.

Speaker 8 (16:11):
Correct super Bowls where we, by the way for Houston
are out of the rotation.

Speaker 2 (16:16):
We're never getting back in as energy is currently put together.
It's not happening.

Speaker 8 (16:20):
Yes, And I don't know if you build something just
for one event, but you could say there is obviously
an economic advantage to it.

Speaker 10 (16:25):
Now.

Speaker 2 (16:26):
The economist in the story that the Alexander wrote and
along with the other guy.

Speaker 8 (16:30):
Mcguinnis, says that the people that they ask about the
economic impact for such events and super bowls likely inflate
their total because they're told to inflate the total. There's
a lot of not a lot of cross checking with
this kind of stuff. Okay, so you have to take
everything with a grain of salt. You'd be foolish not
to say that a Super Bowl does not bring hundreds
of millions of dollars in the city. That's that's foolish

(16:51):
not to think that there's not to it. But do
you do it at a cost of what it costs
to begin with? Again, that's that's semantics. The reality is this,
If you're going to spend one point four billion over
thirty years to fix it, how do you weigh that
against let's get out of here. Let's go build our

(17:13):
own palace for three billy and put in all the
bells and whistles. We think we need to compete with
the other stadiums around the National Football the other large venues,
so that Taylor Swift comes to our building three times
a year, so the world couple think about us.

Speaker 2 (17:26):
So will major events like conventions and big fights like
they had at eight.

Speaker 8 (17:31):
I mean, look at and T Stadium Inland and Arlington
gets everything because it's a it's a Palace. It's got
every bell and whistle that that. First of all, it's
got one hundred thousand seats. Second of all, it's got
amazing premium seating. It's got more clubs you can possibly stand.
And so when in doubt, Energy goes and competes against

(17:52):
AT and T Stadium, So far, Vegas you're gonna lose
every single time.

Speaker 2 (17:55):
Pluses.

Speaker 8 (17:56):
Other cities, frankly have more of an entertainment aspect, especially
Lost Vegas and Los Angeles do is compared to Dallas Houston.
But Dallas's facility is so strong that they're never going
to not be in the mix on these things. Yeah,
So it's gonna come down to ladies and gentlemen, two things.
Do you spend the money? They being you and me
on refurbishing nrg ortis hand and cal saying you know what, brouh,

(18:22):
We love you Houston, we love you Darlene, We love
you Battle at Ross.

Speaker 2 (18:26):
We need our own facility with our own bells and whistles.

Speaker 8 (18:28):
We don't have to share with the rodeo, so we
can build this amazing new facility that everybody else has,
so you can enjoy Texans football in the creature comforts
and being able to walk on the field with the
guys and shake their hand as I get ready for
pregame warmups. So I'm just gonna tell you, Ross, you
and I don't have the finances on it, and we're
not going to get in the weeds on this and
just yet, but this is coming.

Speaker 2 (18:50):
I pulled up a couple of things. Yeah, the two
most recent stadiums to open up, we're Allegiance Stadium in
Las Vegas, right, and Sofi Stadium in Inglewood for La Yeah,
a Sofi Stadium cost seven billion, six to seven billion
dollars estimated to build, and that's because cost of real
estate in Los Angeles is significantly higher than would be

(19:12):
encouract So it's Vegas.

Speaker 8 (19:14):
It was two zero point two million billions and a
smaller area of land too. By the way, Yes, it's
loyally the stadium and that's that. There's no parking lots
early to speak of. They want everybody that lives in
or works in Vegas that goes to the Legion Stadium.
They want you to go stay at the hotels and
let the hotels take advantage of the parking mean, go
in their casinos and make some money.

Speaker 2 (19:36):
The Mercedes Benz Stadium Atlanta costs about two billion dollars.

Speaker 8 (19:40):
Yeah, so the issue is one point foward to fix
up over thirty years, fix up an ERG or build
your own new place. There's a segment of the population
that's listening to the show right now going the hell
with you, because here's the reality of it.

Speaker 2 (20:00):
Most stadiums not everything.

Speaker 8 (20:02):
Most stadiums are a partnership between the private sector and
the ownership group and government.

Speaker 2 (20:09):
So there's it's a combination. Yeah. It's mentioned in the
article by Jonathan Alexander that there was one point twenty
six billion in public money for the Tennessee Titans Stadium. Yep.
So let me give you the but part of this.

Speaker 8 (20:23):
If there is any sports league, any individual sports franchise
that can handle building a stadium on their own to
reap all the benefits of their own, it would be
a National Football League franchise. So if you said we'll
give you the land, you build everything else, the Texans
could say, all right, we'll pick up all the costs,

(20:46):
but every single dollar that comes in, it's coming write
to us.

Speaker 2 (20:48):
And I don't know how that the logistic of that.
I mean, you and I are not accountants or CPAs.
When Bill figure that out. I'm just telling you, the
Texan's got to be very careful about this, very very careful.
The NFL and I will I will this is put
your name on it to the ten thousandth degree. The
NFL is not allowing the Texans to leave Houston. It

(21:09):
ain't happening. First of all, there's not that many places
that can justify an NFL franchise. Nay, is there a
city in America that right now doesn't have an NFL
team that probably deserves one. Portland doesn't have enough people
to do it. Know they have the facility, they have
no there's nothing close to the facilities. So I'm not
worried about Portland. You could worry about You could worry
about Mexico City. You could worry about it. Interesting. I mean,
Toronto's not ready. Mexico City, I think would presents its

(21:30):
own issues. But I'm put my name on there. Were
not They're not leaving, So I don't want to I
don't want to think about that.

Speaker 8 (21:37):
The question is going to be, how do you massage
the public that loves your football team, that loves the rodeo,
that loves the Texans against a public money being spent,
and B it's a lot harder of a sale ross
when you come off championships and you come off consistent winning.

(22:00):
The team is playing better now in the last two
years and it did in the previous five, but there's
still no AFC championship, there's no Super Bowl. Winning helps
everybody even in the pocketbook, unless.

Speaker 2 (22:14):
Here's Kansas City. Didn't they vote against public money for
the kids? Yeahy Arrowhead right, expansions or something like that, renovations. Yeah,
even winning doesn't solve everything.

Speaker 8 (22:24):
So I don't have any opinion on this except to
say that when I saw the story this morning when
I woke up, I'm like zero surprise, and it's gonna
be something that's gonna be brought up, not every single day,
but we better be ready for a plan at some
point because I don't think here's the thing another thing
in the story they brought up. If they go ahead
and refurbish NRG, something's gonna have to be affected by it.

Speaker 2 (22:47):
Rodeo scheduling or the Texan scheduling.

Speaker 8 (22:52):
Somebody's gonna have to say, all right, we're giving up
our events so you can refurbish the facility.

Speaker 2 (22:58):
Who's gonna do that? I don't know.

Speaker 8 (23:01):
Maybe you do it the summertime, you know, but whatever,
you're gonna need rodeo, you're gonna need the stadium empty,
get some point to fix months.

Speaker 2 (23:07):
Months, years started after the Yeah, I don't know how
long renovations take. It all depends. I mean, it could
take years. So you'd probably do it after the rodeo
and then but do you but do you put lipstick
on a pig? And again I'm not saying energy is
a pig, but is it worth now? They've had some
college football playoffs recently, but those that's done to the energy?

Speaker 8 (23:31):
Is we currently and it's currently constructed and it's just working.
Will never host a major major sporting It may get
some Copa America games and you're some of your soccer
events that but they'll get that.

Speaker 2 (23:41):
But that, but that's not a long time pass over
for World Cup, right games? Yeah? But there in mind. Yeah,
they wanted the final, I think is what they want
right in Dallas. Yeah. So I'm just saying, are we
ready for this?

Speaker 11 (23:54):
Houston?

Speaker 2 (23:56):
For US? For US some of US O g s,
I'd rather not. It's exhausting ross. It just is I know.
I'm just gonna say, let's not worry about it. Okay,
NFL's printing money, build your own stadium. What precedent is
that is there for that?

Speaker 9 (24:11):
All?

Speaker 2 (24:11):
Right? Did did they get did did the Raiders get
public money?

Speaker 11 (24:15):
That?

Speaker 2 (24:15):
I don't know? And again I don't want to God
Arthur Blank get public money. I had to figure this out.

Speaker 8 (24:19):
Yeah, there are most stadiums do get public money. Some
do it on their own, but most get public money.
So just throwing that out there as a not kind
of a todyos but it seems about it. My personal
belief is this is just me just talking about this.
If you're going to give the Texans a new stadium,
which I think they're going to get at some point
because of it is the NFL, and you do and

(24:40):
I told you this before. And I get some people
that live over there and get mad at me, but
you know, you can't be pleased with me all the time.
I would get rid of Energy Stadium, I would stay,
I would get out of that area. I'd go to
the west side or the northwest side or a big
plot of land and create my little megaplex because I
think over there at ost South Loop two eighty eight,

(25:02):
and ain't it. I would not want to put a
lot of money into that area, knowing that people, generally speaking,
go to the game and come right back out.

Speaker 2 (25:13):
Two hundred million dollars in public funding for Atlanta, dropping
a hat, seven hundred and fifty million public funding for Nevada,
Las Vegas. Yes, every citium is different. All right, let's
take a time out here on the Matt Thomas Show
with Ross. Ten thirty two is our time. If you
want to join our conversation, you.

Speaker 8 (25:30):
May do so at seven one three two one two
five seven ninety seven one three two one two five
seven ninety There may be some of you out there going,
you know what, go build a palace at Uh. I
don't know what would you say? Uh, Clay Road and
the Beltway, huh. I'm just throwing a just applo. Okay,
that is very random, very random.

Speaker 2 (25:51):
Build your warehouses out there, build your megaplex, build your bars, restaurants, hotels,
do with Jerry World zoon up in Dallas. Let's go.
Or do you say you know what you want that
that name be paying for yourself. You're gonna need hotel
rooms by there? Yeah, Oh you're and everything you're and
everything just like that.

Speaker 8 (26:06):
I mean, Jerry the Jerry the Texas Live stuff is
obviously very popular, and that was built in Arlington, not
even close to downtown Dallas. Eleven thirty two, ten thirty
two seven one three two one two five seven ninety
seven one three two one two five seven eighty with Ross.

Speaker 2 (26:18):
I'm Matt and this is Sports Talk seven ninety ten
thirty seven. Sports Talk seven ninety is the Matt Thomas
Show with Ross.

Speaker 8 (26:32):
We have open lines available, as we normally do, because
nobody likes us anymore.

Speaker 2 (26:36):
Ross. They don't like this ten o'clock hour. Oh please,
everybody loves you, man, No, they don't. They love you. Yeah,
I'm getting annihilated on Twitter with your picture of you
and me? And what are you talking about? All right?
Have you not seen it yet?

Speaker 12 (26:51):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (26:52):
There is a photo that is it on your Twitter account?
Or is it on Sports's Talk seven ninety follow at
sports Talk seven all right?

Speaker 8 (27:01):
Uh, there's a photo of me asking a question to
uh Joe a'spota and uh, you put no caption?

Speaker 2 (27:07):
Please caption this? Yeah, I said, caption this photo sports
empt and go ahead and read sorry whoever our social
media person is did that. We don't have a social
media okay, so go ahead and read the responses so far.
See what have we got so far? Uh? Tiffany seven
to two says those lips? What what's my of my lips?
I think it's it kind of looks like, well, it
looks like Joe a Spot is pursing his lips a

(27:28):
little because he's talking. Oh, it's not about him or man,
I was looking at my lips. I think my lips
are okay. O don't know. I didn't say a word.
I didn't say a word.

Speaker 11 (27:41):
That was fine.

Speaker 2 (27:42):
Uh, let's see. Valerie says, I left my tan back
in twenty twenty four. I hope I'm not blinding you.
That's kind of rude. It is, you know. And I
tried to put the legs out yesterday and it didn't work.
You didn't get him. Well, it takes days, Matt, you
got to put work in. Come on now, all right,
let's say this is a good one from James. How
do you and the t plan to proceed until the
McRib is back? That's genius right there, James shout out

(28:04):
to you, my friend. Uh, let's see, Houston Stressen says
sir this is a Wendy's I don't get that. It's
like it's a common phrase, but it doesn't really apply here.
But that's okay, Kenny says, I don't know how to
put this, but I'm kind of a big deal. People
know me very important. I have many leather bound books.

(28:24):
And my house smells of rich ma rich mahogony. Definitely,
the house smells of rich mahogony. That's what Justin Verlinder
put on his Slimmers caption. Slim's caption was is a
hot dog a sandwich? Again? You can find the photo
at Sports Talk seven had your captions. Well, and if
you're funny, we'll give you run. If you're mean to me,
we'll make fun of you. No for your mean to me.
If you're mean, I will definitely you have a more

(28:46):
chance of me reading it on air. If it's rude
than anything else, that's sorry. Okay, unless it's like really
mean spirited. All right. Uh so we are here in
West Palming again. The guests too. We'll start coming in
once they finish their workouts to uh.

Speaker 8 (29:01):
They had a little media workshop before the game today
how to deal with the media, and they did it
and and I'm not trying to get awy any company
secrets here, but they said, look, you are obviously when
you speak, you are a way to promote and market
the baseball team in good times. In a bad people
are getting more forgiving. Frankly, the medialy more forgiving if
you if you're if you address things in good times

(29:23):
and in bad And I think the Astros typically have
been pretty good about it. I wouldn't say they're are ten,
but they're not certainly a one or two. Yeah, they
didn't go full Aggie bad. Aggi Baseball O oh, by
the way, did you see that? And fills that don't know.
Aggi Baseball last weekend said in their media guidelines that
Aggie Baseball players went will only speak when they win, yes,

(29:47):
which that's not what they say, but that's expectedly what
they said.

Speaker 2 (29:51):
That's what they that, Yeah, right after victories. Their wording
was after losses day will not be made available right,
which means like we're only gonna which what you said,
They're only gonna speak when they went right, which is weak,
which is horse blank. And you know my son's and
Aggie and my middle one is and we are all
things act we love him and he's gonna graduate in May,
and I'm very excited about that. That's bush League. It's
absolutely ridiculous.

Speaker 8 (30:12):
Well, thankfully, twenty four hours after that, after getting crushed
rush by one literally everybody, and again it's not one
of those situations that you can't sleep at night over this.
But you got grown ass men and they're twenty nineteen,
twenty twenty one have to learn that every conversation you
have in life is gonna be about glory and rainbows

(30:32):
and sunshines and butterflies.

Speaker 2 (30:34):
That you're gonna lose a game seven to three, you
can give up a grand sim of the ninth inning,
and you have to talk about it. Now.

Speaker 8 (30:38):
The reporters are gonna go to these nineteen twenty twenty
one year old kids. They're not gonna be like, what
the hell were you thinking?

Speaker 2 (30:45):
Like, I can tell you this.

Speaker 8 (30:47):
I've been doing this for thirty years and I've been
in a lot of clubhouses in my life. I have never,
in my entire life, heard one person go into a
room and say, Josh, hater, what that? Why couldn't you
find the strikes out? I mean, that's not how human
beings operate. No, Now you may be in an office

(31:08):
where you've got a d bag for a boss that says,
why didn't you hit your number?

Speaker 2 (31:12):
Or what did you say to that client. I mean,
that can happen, but in our world of sports media,
we're not gonna do that, and especially we're not gonna
do it for kids. But they're not kids anymore because
they're frankly probably that that AA and M roster is
full of out al money. So they're employees now. They're
doing very well. But so thankfully A and M changed
their stance and said, yes, we will make them available

(31:33):
even losses. And look, and in baseball's gonna be probably
a top ten program this year, so there's not gonna
be a lot of losses. Yeah, I want to say
they're even top five. Yeah, that could be very very good.
So I just.

Speaker 8 (31:44):
So I hope that the astros and we're not gonna
talk to the guys about it, think that's their own
private thing. But it is nice that somebody had said, hey,
we need to do a better job, because what they
did is they're gonna they're gonna say, look, if you
talk now and eloquently speak about your team. A lot
of you are looking for life after baseball. One of
the things you can do is work on your media

(32:04):
training skills and work and becoming because guys like Brian Boga, Sevik,
Steve Sparks, Jeff John Blum are just in this baseball team,
former astros that have been through this, and every baseball
team has got broadcasters that have worked for those teams,
and they've got other jobs like whether they could be
analysts on networks. They can do a local radio, they

(32:25):
can do national area, they can be just you know,
pregame post game guys. There's plenty of jobs available for
you if you want to stay in baseball and yet
not to go through the grind of being a coach
or a manager. So I hope they take it seriously.
And I think Christian Walker around on the show yesterday
was very good. I think Spencer, when you guys hear
him today, he's destined for television after his career.

Speaker 2 (32:47):
Now, the question was will he keep his mane at
that point? I hope so looks good.

Speaker 8 (32:53):
Who's got the best main? Who's the best main? And yeah,
I don't think there's many anybody else anymore. Like Barry
Melrose when he was an NHL analyst in ESPN. His
main was incredible, John correct. Did he have a main
when he was going? When it was just a player?

Speaker 2 (33:10):
Though? Yeah, we got to bring it back. You know
what we get you on TV? You got your going.
I'd free for that, bad boy. I don't know if
I've been on TV ever. Really, these classes you wear
are mesmerizing. Why I'm just staring at you, It's just unbelievable.
What's sonny out here? I got sunglasses? Well I should
have brought mine because I can't see a damn thing
at this point.

Speaker 11 (33:30):
All right, what I.

Speaker 2 (33:31):
Almost brought two pairges for you, but I forgot I
did I should have. That's fine, that's fine. You've never
really cared about me much anymore. Oh my god. All
I do is take care of you. You do, Thank
you very much.

Speaker 8 (33:41):
Ten forty four on the Sports Talk seven OUTI we're
here at West Palm Beach till some of those players
will stop by and say, look, I'm Cam Smith.

Speaker 2 (33:46):
I'm looking forward to see because every.

Speaker 8 (33:48):
Time I get a photo from mc taggart or Chandler
Rome or somebody talking about or looking at camps from there,
like the guy is cut.

Speaker 2 (33:56):
He and Descenzo could be the WWE Tag Team champions.
I agree absolutely, they could even be. I feel like
they can get ten rebounds a game in the league. Yeah,
it's about to ask him about that.

Speaker 8 (34:07):
But apparently Cam Smith the guy we're all gonna fall
in love with because he's gonna be really good and
he's a good, well spoke guy.

Speaker 2 (34:12):
All right.

Speaker 8 (34:13):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven.

Speaker 2 (34:17):
Ninety we come back. A manufactured argument turn out to
be completely bogus and people found out about it. We'll
tell you about that next. It's the Matt Thomas old
Ross here from West Paul Beach on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 13 (34:31):
Matten Ross returns return on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (34:41):
Joe the Spine is gonna join us on the show today,
Spencer Aarraghetty, Cam Smith. We've got Chet Chill, Paumiss up
coming up at eleven thirty today, the News at noon.
We didn't do NFL rewind yesterday, but we had baseball
stuff to get too. We'll get back to the rewind
next week. Don't you think that sounds good?

Speaker 8 (34:57):
We do have a football story to tell you about,
a football and baseball story actually ready for this. Yes,
I remember that fight that was outside of New Orleans
at the super Bowl involving Pat Mahomes Senior and John Rocker.

Speaker 2 (35:07):
Yes, well.

Speaker 8 (35:11):
It created quite a stir. Oh No, and John Rocker
went to Pat Mahomes on Twitter and attacked him.

Speaker 13 (35:18):
Oh.

Speaker 2 (35:18):
Pat Mahomes Senior went back and attacked the John at
John Rocker ROSSI was a bit. It was all a griff.

Speaker 8 (35:26):
It was all a grift, a work as the kids
would stay in wrestling. Let me explain and lem explain why.
Apparently that fight was.

Speaker 2 (35:37):
Was a potential violation of Pat Mahomes Senior's probation. He's
currently on probation after a third Wow. His son's got
three super Bowls and he's got three duys.

Speaker 8 (35:50):
Yep, the fight arguably violated the terms of its limited freedom.
Pat Mahomes Senior told the court last week the fight
was quote a stage promotion for an April boxing match
with Rocker at Barstools Rough and Rowdy. The contract showed
the court was signed back on January the seventeenth. It
does keep Mahomes out of jail, but exposes the whole

(36:12):
thing as a ruse almost aimed at hyping the fight,
not almost.

Speaker 2 (36:17):
It did hype it, so they are still their fight
is still on.

Speaker 8 (36:21):
Though Mahomes Senior is due to make at least eighty
five thousand dollars to the fight.

Speaker 2 (36:25):
He could get more money depending on the pay per
view numbers. All right, come on, let me tell you
he's a kind of a check. First of all, Pat
Mahomes Junior has to be in completely and utterly embarrassed something.
You know, when you're when you're an adult and your
kids do stupid things like insult the teacher or pick
a fight.

Speaker 8 (36:45):
Yeah, you have to tell little Mikey or little Christy stop.
To have to do it as an adult to your
parent to say, look, I've got more money than God.

Speaker 2 (36:54):
If you need that much money, here's a check, just
go away.

Speaker 8 (36:58):
First of all, Pat Mahomes Senior was a major league
baseball player, didn't make crazy money.

Speaker 2 (37:02):
But he wasn't like he was broke. Well maybe he,
I mean, well, yeah, must be.

Speaker 8 (37:07):
And when the first DWI took place, do you kind
of shake yourself and say, man, I gotta fix this.

Speaker 2 (37:12):
Yeah. The second one's like, man, I bet you'd be
a real way that strike too.

Speaker 8 (37:15):
You get using baseball minacular three strikes when you're out,
he gets a third and he was like, yeah, I know.

Speaker 2 (37:21):
I'm on probation. I probably should be in jail.

Speaker 8 (37:23):
I mean, I'm assuming that most people to get the
third DWY have some sort of prison sentence coming their
way or sometime of time in jail. He did that
for eighty five thousand dollars, when when the sun is
worth a half billion dollars right now? I mean, come on,

(37:43):
that's interesting because I mean, if you are if you
are Pat Mahomes, I mean, do you put your parents
on salary?

Speaker 2 (37:50):
What do you do with that? Anyways? Give him money?
I mean does has he maybe come to Pat Mahomes
for money a bunch of times and he said, no,
I can't do it anymore. I'm trying to figure this out. Well, okay,
so let's deduce this being far from the situation. Yes,
my guess is that Packholmes Sr.

Speaker 8 (38:07):
Has done this to go to debt to son and
say I need some money in the dan's and the
son's like, come on, dad, no, you you've got a
lot of issues in your life and until you get
your life fixed up, my money is off limits.

Speaker 2 (38:18):
There could be something like that. Absolutely, there could be
a situation where he said, hey, I can't take.

Speaker 8 (38:22):
If I had a parent that had three dwy's and
didn't learn after the first one, I'd have a real
problem with that having a relationship with my parent. But
because of what he just did, I didn't even mention. Look,
I'll be truthful with you. I didn't know that Pat
Mahomes Senior had three Dwhy's oh I did. I don't
know if America knew.

Speaker 2 (38:41):
Clearly, chiefs fans probably knew because of the name of Homes,
But I don't know if the average if you went
to a bar and said, you know, Pat Mahomes scener,
the third one was recent, right, maybe news it might
have been. For sure.

Speaker 8 (38:49):
I'm just telling you I didn't know to it, but
now I clearly know, and I'll never forget it. Because
this got out and they fought with y'all. I mean, again,
who are you in bed with when it comes to this?
I mean John Rocker, I mean.

Speaker 2 (39:03):
Come, especially, as we said, John Rocker looks like he's
on routs, like he looks like he's he's ready to
whip some ass. I don't care if he's if he's
flabby or dowey or ripped Pat Mahomes Sr. Do you
need the eighty five g's? I mean, that's what I'm
if I'm junior, I'm like, do you need the eighty
five g's that bad? I guess he does, And you

(39:26):
could be you could be right on track with the
situation of where it's like, I'm cutting you off until
I see someone from or something. We don't know. We're speculating.

Speaker 8 (39:36):
I don't follow Pat Junior on Twitter or a social
I don't know if he's do you, But I don't
know if he's.

Speaker 2 (39:42):
Anything publicly about. I don't see anything. But you gotta
be you gotta be better than that.

Speaker 8 (39:49):
How about just fix your life and establish a relationship
with your kid or if there is one. I don't
know if there is, but how but Pat Mahomes Junior
is being drug through this because of dad's asinine first
of all idea, and then if you do the fight,
it's stupid in itself, but to stage something and then

(40:10):
go to Twitter to have a quote unquote beef over.

Speaker 2 (40:12):
It twenty twenty five got a drump interest somehow. It's
like these fighters in these boxers in UFC, how they
get they get in Twitter fights.

Speaker 8 (40:22):
To be honest with you. I mean I wasn't gonna
buy it anyway. But if you would have told me
there was a fight between those two without all this,
I would have not bought it anyway. This latest stuff,
the fake fight in New Orleans, the Twitter beef didn't
make me want.

Speaker 2 (40:36):
To go ooh, that's guy's something I gotta not you.
But they probably get They were probably some whatever number
that was. It probably went up. Yeah, I couldn't have
gone down. I mean, it's all you did was add
added to it. Yeah. Is this Barstool's fault? Uh No? Yeah,
they're producing and how did it come together? They're doing? Look,

(40:56):
they got a couple of names, John Rocker, how high
of a name you want to say they are? I
mean John Rocker with this if this was thirty years ago,
I don't know how who else I told you? Jose
Canseco has been on one of these rough and rowdies
and he got knocked out. I believe do you have
you ever watched one of these before? Now? I don't
I feel very safe in saying this is a where
aged athletes go to look ridiculous for five, ten, fifteen.

(41:18):
I think it's like barstool people like their talent and
then some of their I don't know how I honestly look,
it's somebody, somebody who's into barstool can maybe fill the
send on us. That's what was Again, I should ross
I should have realized that the moment that happened, because
why would pat Beholmes Senior and John Rocker get in

(41:39):
a rando? First of all, what is John Rocker doing
in New Orleans? Begin with? They must have said, go
to New Orleans, all.

Speaker 8 (41:45):
The barstool people were in New Orleans all and get
as many cameras on you fighting so you can make
this look like a legitatut.

Speaker 2 (41:51):
Here's what Google AI says about a rough and rowity history.
They've had dwarfs fighting, They've had toothless hillbillies fighting, a
wrestling champion, uh, a superhero takes on an acting covered lumperjack.
It's like street brawling. Basically, they've been doing it in

(42:11):
twenty seventeen. So basically it's it's Jerry Springer crowd buying
this stuff. Correct And by the way, the Jerry Springer crowd.
And I'm not saying the show itself because it's no
longer there and he's deceased obviously, but that is still
alive and wall in America. They've just gone to barstool. Yeah,
there's some of that for sure.

Speaker 8 (42:31):
I mean, we're gonna see another Tanya Harding versus Nancy
Kerrigan fight.

Speaker 2 (42:34):
I mean, is that? Is that something that's on the
agenda's basically like that? My good. I don't know who's
sanctioning these fights. I guess they're amateur fights. I don't
know how this. Yeah, there's no there's no state board.
I'm watching all these things now, maybe Texas.

Speaker 8 (42:47):
No one is like, yeah, I don't care. We have
such a batcher in the State's why. I don't even
where the fight was gonna be. I don't even know.
We doesn't really care. But yeah, anybody that thought that
was it was legit beef and the old court docking
uh doc had showed that it's just a bit seven
one three, two one two five seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (43:04):
If you want to jump in our conversation.

Speaker 8 (43:05):
We are here today in West Palm Beach for Astro
spring training twenty twenty five. A couple of comments from
Joe's Spotta. We'll get to the start of the r
in just moments. Seven one three two one two five
seven ninety. You know, sometimes things in life happen unexpectedly,
and when they do, you've got to call somebody to
get the legal advice you so richly need and deserve

(43:25):
to get you back on your feet. And that's when
you call Scott Callahan and Associates at seven one three
eight eight eight nine thousand. Call them on a zoom
call from the comfort of your home, of your own home.
They'll put you first. They'll fight hard to get you
a voice, whether it's a situation evolving a car accident,
an eighteen wheeler wreck, a work injury, construction or oil

(43:46):
field accident, or in some cases, a wrongful death. Scott
Callahan's board certified and personal Injury trial law by the Texas.

Speaker 2 (43:52):
Board of Legal Specialization. Please visit with him, put your
trust in his hands and he will not let you down.
Seven one three eight eight eight nine thousand. That's seven
one three eight eight eight nine thousand. Or we Help
Texas dot Com. That's we Help Texas dot Com for
Scott Callahan and Associates, Principal Office, Katie, Texas.

Speaker 1 (44:14):
Lunchtimers. This is the Matt Thomas Show.

Speaker 2 (44:19):
All right, we are joined by one of the goats
of Scifair High School. That's right, class of twenty sixteen. Oh,
we're getting older, man, nineteen ninety. Where'd you go to
high school at Made Creek? You ever been there?

Speaker 8 (44:34):
No, by the way, played against me, arroghetty No hit
my high school twice when he was playing.

Speaker 2 (44:39):
Yeah, I already know what your high school's like. It
feels rude. I mean twice once?

Speaker 14 (44:46):
Is that?

Speaker 2 (44:48):
Oh it's Hayden Westnasky with us. It was right, it
was in one day as well. Say your name, say
your name for the Audienst. Hayden was Nasky. Hayden was nisky.
He's an enterprising young fan. Yeah, alright, Hey, okay, So
you're in Chicago, you're getting a cup of coffee and
you're getting ready for camp, and all of a sudden
you hear boom, Kyle Tucker truck. Good trade. That's cool.

Speaker 8 (45:08):
Oh, I'm part of the trade. So I was in Houston,
that's right, because you you are Sam Houston Bearcat.

Speaker 9 (45:14):
Yes, I'm born and raised Houston Estonian, like a lot
of guys on the team. Right, But yeah, I get
a call. I was golfing with my family that I
chose the one I'm marrying into.

Speaker 2 (45:26):
Oh it's a future father in law. Yes, okay, we're
gonn get through that a minute bout.

Speaker 9 (45:29):
And so then this is the second time I got
traded in. Both times we're on a golf course.

Speaker 2 (45:33):
Oh what was your first trade?

Speaker 9 (45:35):
I was with the Yankees and I got traded to
the Cups. Got You're all over the place, man, I
must have a friendly contract.

Speaker 2 (45:40):
No bad teammate. Oh is that right? You come across
the roll a hole.

Speaker 15 (45:44):
You really do?

Speaker 2 (45:44):
That's what That's what the guys at the gym say.
Oh my god.

Speaker 8 (45:48):
Okay, so your reaction was the same as this time
were different? Alright, you haveppy. You had to be fired
up coming home. Yeah, about what you're in the rotation?

Speaker 2 (45:55):
Say he had the best rounde of his life? Right,
I did? I helped my golf. Is that true? Are
you making that up?

Speaker 9 (45:59):
No?

Speaker 2 (45:59):
No, that's actually serious, Like that's not that's not a joke.
What's your handicap? I don't know. I mean you don't know.

Speaker 9 (46:04):
I don't know. I don't play enough. I really seriously
don't play. I don't play that much.

Speaker 2 (46:07):
The last round you shot was a what it sounds
like a real gambler. I don't know, probably three three digits.
There you go, is your follow up future follow on?
Proven I approve of this or what.

Speaker 9 (46:17):
I played baseball? It's okay, say he's right, yeah, okay,
I have a job. That's like that was the he's
a low bar.

Speaker 2 (46:26):
He's you know, he's not asking.

Speaker 8 (46:27):
You're not asking for money just yet, finest, Yes, this
is the girl you met in college or high school.

Speaker 9 (46:32):
After after college and pro bol early in pro ball. Okay,
not a big baseball fan. Your girl isn't.

Speaker 2 (46:38):
She likes it because I do it.

Speaker 8 (46:40):
So what is her number one thing? Is she a
big Bravo watcher? Yes, that's that's kind of an upper ally.

Speaker 2 (46:45):
Now let me guess the way to her heart was
by watching The Real Housewives with her. Correct.

Speaker 8 (46:49):
I don't want no, I let her watch it. I
give her, I give her the time. You just sit
in the bed and look at your baseball reference numbers, right.

Speaker 9 (46:55):
Yeah, pretty, yeah, whatever, whatever whatever that day's mission is,
don't do it.

Speaker 2 (46:59):
Don't don't look at the numbers.

Speaker 8 (47:01):
All right, So you get the trade and the phone call,
and then I mean you're penciled in first. Congratulations on that, right,
you got to be fired up for that opportunity.

Speaker 2 (47:09):
Oh pumped you? Yeah, you have no idea? Uh just yeah, pumped.
My My family's really stoked about it. Dude.

Speaker 9 (47:18):
I packed lighter this the spring training knowing I didn't
have to.

Speaker 2 (47:21):
I'm gonna move back to where it just is, just moving.
So mom and dad still in town? Yes, same house
you grew up in. Yes? Wow? Oh we Yeah, I'm
twenty minutes away from everybody. So are you gonna live
in that part of town or are you gonna do?
We're not sure.

Speaker 9 (47:33):
I'm forty five minutes away. I lived more in Tall. No,
you gotta get closer, dude, where.

Speaker 2 (47:38):
You come up with me and Kinglin if you want to.

Speaker 9 (47:40):
It's kind of that's very far too.

Speaker 2 (47:42):
It's a straight shot to fifty nine. But you can.
I don't know. I don't know.

Speaker 9 (47:45):
We've talked a few things, me and my fiance have.
We've stuck with maybe getting hotel rooms every whenever we
need to, so for like long term no no, no, no,
like we'll get like this day, we'll get a hotel,
like we'll pick it.

Speaker 2 (47:59):
I go one day vacation the day before your game. Yes,
that makes a lot of sun like the night to
day like.

Speaker 9 (48:04):
Uh so we'll play a night game on a Saturday
and then Sunday we have a day game. I'll get
one Saturday night.

Speaker 2 (48:10):
I am so jealous. That's that's life I want to live. Yeah,
it's it's I'd rather go home. But that's just I'm
sorry to do this. Someone asks you a baseball question,
so I'm not gonna We talked to FanFest. You said
your goal was to be a starter. Have there any
conversations with the people up here about your your role
coming up or just go out there and start. Haven't

(48:32):
changed nothing, nothing's really changed.

Speaker 8 (48:34):
Number five today, number two in a couple of years.
I'm hoping Brown get out of the way. I'm gonna
take your spot.

Speaker 9 (48:40):
It doesn't matter if it does not, as long as
one of the five, it doesn't matter.

Speaker 2 (48:44):
That's right, right.

Speaker 8 (48:44):
It is kind of one of the most overrated things
about well, you know, I'll be Look, he's a three
four guy.

Speaker 1 (48:49):
You don't know that.

Speaker 8 (48:50):
I mean, if three four needed to win a game
in late September, they're going to count on you to
do so.

Speaker 9 (48:54):
Yeah, that's right, and I'm telling you it's yeah. Though,
there's the opening day starter. That's so cool, right, that's
a whole nother ball game.

Speaker 2 (49:02):
Two to five.

Speaker 9 (49:03):
I'm not after the first opening day. It's kind of
just whoever starle in the next game, right, So I
don't really care. I've been in such a point where
in Chicago I was they would tell me to start
when I when I needed to start, and so I
didn't know if I was the three or the one
or the five.

Speaker 2 (49:18):
Was just whatever. Yeah, yeah, it was okay. So what
is the game plan in terms of what did you
bring into camp this year that you have not ever
brought to the camp? In terms of is there a pitch,
is there a philosophy, is there a workout routine? You
have you changed much? I'm saying when you first became
a professional baseball player. Oh, a lot has.

Speaker 9 (49:34):
Changed since I've been a professional baseball player from last season.
Not a whole lot. But when I got drafted, I
was a sinker slider, guy sinker slider, change up as
pro Ball's gone on about it, a cutter and four seam.
I throw a little harder. I was low nineties at
SAM and now I'm kind of two to five, right,
I'll run it up there. If I had like things
going well, feeling good.

Speaker 2 (49:53):
Kind of so we know you're gonna be amped up
if it hits ninety five on the gun.

Speaker 9 (49:58):
No, I'm happy about it, A amps above happy, I think.

Speaker 2 (50:03):
Right, Okay, I go.

Speaker 9 (50:03):
You see what I'm saying, like, Yeah, you want to
be consistent, Yes, I'd rather Yeah, if I'm sitting I would.
If I'm sitting three to five, We're in a good spot.

Speaker 2 (50:10):
Okay, I like it. Uh, Sam Houston State. Uh, there's
a catcher there by the way, they just got drafted.
You know that. You know that kid. I wear him
out as much as I can explain Walker. That kid is.
By the way, I get another name is your guys
are giving us a bunch of names. Were not to
really get to know a little bit East Texas an
enterprising young fellow. He is yea very country dude.

Speaker 14 (50:32):
He is.

Speaker 2 (50:33):
I'm sorry right now.

Speaker 9 (50:34):
He's tough as a two dollars steak, and dude can
freaking swing it has all the power. I try to
help him out because the biggest thing with young catchers
is that you have to learn how to manage two
parts of a game, right, And so I don't know
anything about hitting. So I'm not going to tell try
to help him on the hitting part, but when it
comes to the pitching side, I'm gonna tell him what

(50:56):
how to help him? Right, I go, you need to
talk to your your your pictures, like you gotta talk
to him. I know it's exhausting. And you got thirteen
of them on your team, fifteen of them in my
lower levels. It's up to twenty, right whatever it is,
m but you got to talk to them, like you got.
You gotta know what they do. You got to know them,
and you have to be able to call a game.

Speaker 2 (51:15):
Right.

Speaker 9 (51:16):
That's and I try to tell him, I go, the
easiest way to stick in the big leagues is being
a pitcher. The second easiest is a catcher. So you gotta, like,
you gotta figure out how.

Speaker 2 (51:24):
To call a game.

Speaker 9 (51:25):
I know you have all the tools and stuff, right,
but like you have to understand, you have to know
your guys.

Speaker 2 (51:30):
Highlight Pitch com love it because it's just it's quick clarity.

Speaker 9 (51:34):
There's no arguments. You can't uh no, there's arguments. But
with the clock, it speeds everything up. God on second base,
you know when we had the clock and we were
I was in triple A and they had the clock,
and then we didn't have a calm.

Speaker 2 (51:49):
Dude, it was impossible. You can't shake.

Speaker 9 (51:51):
So whatever the guy calls, it's like you have to
do multiple signs so he doesn't steal it and relay it.
And then if you shake, then you're you're to zero
and you you're you're throwing the pitch it call. Really,
so the column is just it's the best by far, as.

Speaker 2 (52:05):
Long as there's no It seems like there's always some
kind of battery issue or something. Is that you guys?
Are you guys making that up? Like I need I
need like thirty seconds. I'm gonna act like my pitch
coms acting up. It feels like it's a trick of
the trade.

Speaker 9 (52:15):
Yeah, I feel I assume every time that it happens
that they are doing that.

Speaker 2 (52:19):
Can you change a voice like on ways? No, I
don't know. I haven't asked. I just kind of assume, like.

Speaker 8 (52:26):
Basically, like would you want James Earl Jones swimming your
pitch to you or like a like a a sultry
actress you like everyone?

Speaker 9 (52:35):
No, I'm thinking I want something to a little bit more. No, No, No,
we need something intense. I can't have like screen.

Speaker 2 (52:41):
Yeah, yeah, like.

Speaker 8 (52:46):
That's that's awesome. But we're so excited to have you again.
The story about you being on the golf course is great,
and your.

Speaker 2 (52:53):
Spot is here.

Speaker 8 (52:53):
I mean that's to see that in the I don't
know if you much of a season preview guy, but
to have your spot, I have to kind of not
trying to work your way up has to be you
get to a new team.

Speaker 2 (53:03):
And then they were saying, look, we need you every
fifth day.

Speaker 9 (53:07):
Man, You'll have no idea how much a big deal
it is. As with the Cubs it was, and I
love flaying for him. It's just I didn't know what
my role was. I didn't where I stuck. I did everything.
I would show up to the park and I wouldn't
know what I was doing that day. And that's a
weird feeling to have.

Speaker 8 (53:23):
Is that is that unfortunately the management or is that
just guys like yourself that just don't have a spot
just yet.

Speaker 2 (53:29):
I think it's that. I think it's what they needed
me to do. Right.

Speaker 9 (53:33):
A lot of guys get hurt, and I think a
lot of it has suit the clock. That's another issue
another time, but a lot of guys get hurt and
at some time my starter gets hurt, they need me
to go there, and then a guy get in the
bullpening gets hurt and I got to move there.

Speaker 1 (53:43):
Right.

Speaker 2 (53:43):
It's just kind of what you have to do to
balance out how does your arm handle all that.

Speaker 9 (53:46):
I got hurt last year, so you know what happens.
But for the most part, it's good. I'm pretty healthy.
I mean, like, you get banged up, but it happens.

Speaker 2 (53:54):
Yeah, well, we gonna see you out here for the
first time. Twenty fifth. I think what is today? That's
nineteen six days twenty Yeah, I throw live tomorrow and
then after that, I think the twenty fifth. Do you
like spring training? No, sucks are just part of the business.
Part of the business. It's just like I'm get really frustrated.

Speaker 9 (54:12):
I get really frustrated, like things aren't going the ball's
not coming out the way I want it to, you know, Like.

Speaker 2 (54:17):
It's just like it's early on. Get through the season.

Speaker 9 (54:19):
It's like, Okay, when something doesn't happen the way you
want it to, you know how to fix it.

Speaker 2 (54:24):
You know how to spin it right or throw a
pull it back.

Speaker 9 (54:26):
Yeah, spring training, I just for some reason, I'm like
throwing a pitch and I go, why isn't it doing
what I want it to do? And it's just you
try to figure out how to fix it and you
put your head against.

Speaker 2 (54:37):
The white great news. You got a month and nine
days or something to figure it out. Yeah, no, I
will figure it out. But it doesn't mean I'm not
gonna be frustrated the whole.

Speaker 9 (54:45):
No.

Speaker 8 (54:45):
You know, you have an open invitation to show anytime
you want. We'll be back in Houston. You're gonna be
on with the shows, all of our You're our guy. Now,
what can we get you for a wedding gift? What's
time that you have a registry?

Speaker 2 (54:58):
Just yet? No, I don't. I'm trying to think of
something unique that. I mean when I got married nineteenninety seven,
back play I was born, we were born.

Speaker 8 (55:06):
I put a direct TV receiver on there, and people
are like, we're not giving you that. That's not happening
because that was back in the day.

Speaker 2 (55:12):
That was like the brand new direct you know that
like Elvision, but that was the big thing. You know.

Speaker 9 (55:17):
What I've heard nowadays is you put on really expensive
gifts and then the registry gives you like a discount
on it. So we're gonna get like, for instance, you
get I'm trying to think of something that's like a
thousand dollars, right, Okay, you get something that's a thousand dollars.

Speaker 2 (55:31):
You know, no one's gonna get it for you.

Speaker 9 (55:32):
It doesn't matter though, because the registry is going to
give you like ten percent off or twenty percent off
by yourself. You buy yourself, because you're gonna get it
for yourself.

Speaker 2 (55:39):
Anyway. What a sham. That is why we bring bring him,
bring him on from Yeah, I've learned. I learned that
the life.

Speaker 8 (55:46):
Yeah yeah, there's also Hey, there's also some stuff about
couples of massages and stuff on that. I'm as a
grown ass man and another man. I'm not giving you
any money towards a couple's massage. I want that freaking
up life. You handle it on your own.

Speaker 2 (55:58):
I cannot agree more. We're on the same there. All right, Well, congrant.
What's your name by the way, JC? All right, Jason,
I want her to listen to the show because we
are very lighthearted and fun. Uh and we want to win.
You're gonna win fifteen sixteen games this year. Ope, it's
every fifth day, small steps, my friend, you have the
Astros win thirty five thirty five, Astros win. Astros win
the whole thing. They know they win a lot. No,

(56:19):
they do win a lot.

Speaker 8 (56:20):
So you got you got a new infield behind you,
which is fine. Yes, you got sluggers up and down
the lineup always awesome. And your strike cut number are
gonna be good this year.

Speaker 2 (56:30):
I like outs, okay, you know, like they just out
to watch out for that left fancy all right, strikeouts.
And Blake sells really good. He doesn't go seven eight,
nine innings.

Speaker 11 (56:39):
He just he punched.

Speaker 2 (56:40):
Look at the money he's making, now, sure that's fair.
He plays a different game. The most you pitch, well,
you're gonna be insanely rich. I have thought about that
every day. Of course you should. I think Ross and
I think of our career is like, we're gonna be okay,
We're never gonna be insanely rich. No, especially him. I mean,
I'm doing okay.

Speaker 9 (56:57):
Those jobs are you ate a little money for a
lot of fun.

Speaker 2 (57:01):
We have a good time. It's the easiest job in
the one it's the dumbest job in the world. We're
here in West Point. We throw a ball and we
talk about you. I don't do anything. I just talk
about you. And since we like you so much, else
if you give up, if you give up six runs
over three innings, we'll probably been kinder to you than
guys we don't like, and I appreciate it.

Speaker 8 (57:17):
We'll say it's a tight strike zone, or Harley went out,
Harley went out to win, aid it?

Speaker 2 (57:22):
Or yeah that's all right, Hayden wist Eski, did I
get it? Okay, yep, perfect? Sci Fair Bobcats cy Fair, bobcatsbcats.

Speaker 8 (57:31):
Yeah, in the same use the k. By the way,
it's Bearcats with the K. Back with morning a moment
here the Matt Thomas Show was wrongs.

Speaker 2 (57:37):
This is Sports Talk seven nighting.

Speaker 13 (57:40):
The Maas Show with Ross continues on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 8 (57:49):
All Right, we're going to perhaps bump shut your ball
mess up, but I got time for that till a
little bit later in the day or well, we'll see,
because a Joe Spot is going to join us in
about ten minutes from now here from West Palm Beach.

Speaker 2 (58:01):
We can have him do it. He is, so he's
like Jose and l two bay and leftfield questions. Ain't
nobody got time for that. We could try it. No, No,
it would be he doesn't know the context of it.
I mean I would like to I want to get
him in trouble. Yeah, I would like for him to
know what the show is about. But he's busy managing

(58:21):
a major in the Major League Baseball. Now you can
also be listening the off season, but that's done here
there Uh hay wes'n esky. Uh big fan, Yes, Houston kid.

Speaker 8 (58:29):
By the way, there's like, I think there's four or
five guys that maybe from the twenty six man ross
is that it is?

Speaker 2 (58:35):
Okay, that could be Houston guys. That's crazy. Bryce Matthews
were on the list. It's fine, Bryce Matthews, Righetty wesn Esky.
There's a couple more. Yeah. Uh, but that's that's that's
that's not unheard of. But it's rare. It's great. And
he's got us. I mean, I think it's his job
to lose. Yeah, we got no other choice. I mean,

(59:00):
there's there are some guys. Okay, let's say he's out.
Who's the five guy? Uh, Gusto Gusto, who's pitching. I
think he's gonna pitch you off the screen. Turning opener
on Saturday. Okay, I mean this couple guys, I mean
probably not on the radar a j blue Ball. Blue
Ball is a guy that's gonna be up there again.

Speaker 8 (59:18):
I wouldn't pencil in mccullors and or Luis Garcia just yet,
although apparently today Louis Garcia, if I'm correct on.

Speaker 2 (59:25):
This, threw a little bit off of a mountain barely.
He has thrown off a mound recently. Yes, that's what
Joe Spot is saying. So, uh, you know, I don't
want to I'm not getting in the weeds on that
because we've got enough stuff going on here.

Speaker 8 (59:34):
Okay, but yeah, it was hiding west Nesky. Good to
visit with him, and congratulations in his upcoming marriage. Uh
seven one three seven nine if you want to join
our conversation seven one three two.

Speaker 2 (59:46):
And look, it's easy to talk to these guys.

Speaker 8 (59:48):
And and for him who was in a cub uniform
in and out to get now, I mean, think about
this ross. Not only did he not have his feet
on the ground much as a major leaguer, but he's
going to a baseball team that said we've brought you
here to be a starter. I mean, if he gives
you anything this year and Cam Smith gives you something

(01:00:11):
as much as we miss Kyle Tucker. All you're judging
now on is do the guys that came over in
this trade surpass what Kyle Tucker did this year because
there was no chance, no way, no how never gonna
happen to Kyle Tucker was gonna be Houston astro Pass
twenty twenty five.

Speaker 2 (01:00:26):
Yeah, I mean it also factors into I mean, how
much impact it doesn't matter for this year as well
as far as Yeah, what you're saying and losing Kyle
Tucker in theory hurts your chances of winning a World
Series this year. But so it's balancing the long term
in the short term, which is what Dana Brown has

(01:00:48):
had to do since he's gotten here to where. Clearly
Jim Crane and although he dipped into the tax last year,
wants to stay out of it as much as possible
and also wants to contend as much as possible. And
you got to toe that line between the two. And
so the pieces that come back, as you say, have
to perform. Hayden Wisness he has to be one of those.

(01:01:09):
I feel excited he sounds excited to be here, loves
that he's going to be in a starter role. Astros
have got him here in the building. He's got good
stuff and if the usually, if that's the case, the
Astros will get you in house and get you dealing,
like we've seen numbers of times before.

Speaker 8 (01:01:26):
But it is a conundrum for the organization because, as
Dana brought up with us yesterday, Jim Crane says, the
door is always open, the wind window, the windows always
open well, and it doesn't necessarily when you move a
Ryan Presley, or you move a Kyle Tucker, or you
don't resign Alex Pragman. The naysayers are saying, is that

(01:01:47):
really the truth? The truth is that window is open,
but you're not going to crash it down to hurt
yourself financially long term, and having all those guys try
to stick around and.

Speaker 2 (01:01:59):
Maybe over pay for them or pay them just to
stick around would have probably hurt them in other areas.

Speaker 8 (01:02:04):
I don't think it's as easy, and I think the
logically thinking Astro fan thinks this, if you just spend
any amount of money to keep Kyle Tucker, if you
spend any amount of money to keep Bregman, something else
is going to suffer. And I think the Astros is
an organization and the smart organization say, look, we have
placed priorities on this. We can't hurt ourselves financially by

(01:02:27):
sticking with long term contracts that when those guys are
five or six years.

Speaker 2 (01:02:30):
Older today than they are right now, may ultimately hurt
the future of this franchise. Yeah, it's a it is,
and you don't necessarily have to commit to long term.
But Bregman signed a three year deal. It's also about
the money there too. It's obviously forty million dollars a year.
We should put the Astros well over the threshold for
a second consecutive year, yes, And Jim Crane doesn't want

(01:02:51):
to do that, and that's his right, Yeah, because he
feels like the squad he's got with the improvements again,
he feels like parades, or at least the organization, feel
like paridises of an offensive standpoint will thrive.

Speaker 8 (01:03:04):
You went and spent money on Christian Walker, got him
in good money. Hopefully he's better than the previous first basement.

Speaker 2 (01:03:09):
You just signed.

Speaker 8 (01:03:10):
But uh, you know, it's not like they just said
goodbye to Kyle goodbye to Bregmant and didn't have they
they had a plan by there that would plan is
planning to be a huge unknown at this point of.

Speaker 2 (01:03:21):
Course, it is yes, plan b is Eesich, Paradis is
gonna come here and hit a bunch of bombs to
left right, Hayden Wiston Eski, They're gonna you know, he
was good, he had an er and or four last
year and even go in here and be in a
starting role and be a plus guy with that, you
know around ere around three fifty ish, right, be a
really good four or five guy. Didn't then all that
adds up to to maybe more than what uh than

(01:03:43):
than what Kyle Tucker could as one person. If you're
talking about possible contributions from camp Smith, possible kind of
from Chas McCormick coming back, because the alternative adding it
all up, the alternat this you knew, I mean bredman,
you could have kept and you could have figured out
a way to keep him longer. There was Rossie. We've
talked about this for a couple of years. Kyle Tucker

(01:04:04):
was never going to sign here unless you just pistol
whipped him with with the wallet, right, I mean, you
just said, hey, here's a blank check, fill it out
for whatever you take short.

Speaker 8 (01:04:15):
Of that, and the Astros have never done that. The
Astros have been consistent about that, and the Astras are
in a situation where they.

Speaker 2 (01:04:21):
Will never do that. Really the only team that does that. Realistically,
there are about three teams. The Mets will do it,
the Yankees will do it, and the Dodgers will do it. Yes,
and collectively those three teams have what Dodgers have two
World Series. The Mets are still chasing and the Yankees
are still chasing. It doesn't just because you handed player
of blank check doesn't give you guaranteed one hundred victories

(01:04:45):
and deep posts and runs. Very clearly, if that was
the case, the Phillies have never been in the World Series.
The Nationals whenever won a World Series. The Braves, I mean,
the Braves spend money, but they don't go crazy bonkers
over them. Ever, Spuney spent correct. So most team all
have better farm systems than you. Unfortunately, and I think
part of what you did is, I mean, think about this.
Camp Smith automatically bumped the Astros minor league system up.

(01:05:09):
That just shows you how weak it has been. He
was and then he moved.

Speaker 8 (01:05:13):
Guys, yet last year just because you felt like you
needed to make a move to go get a Kakuucie,
to go get.

Speaker 2 (01:05:19):
Justin vernunerback from your ear. I mean you you didn't
much to begin with, and you sent what you had
left away. Yeah, hey, I mean yeah. As you mentioned,
Cam Smith, I believe was the sixth prospect for the
Cubs and immediately came the number one prospect for the Astro.
That's right.

Speaker 8 (01:05:33):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (01:05:38):
This is Matt Thomas Show with Ross.

Speaker 8 (01:05:39):
We're gonna hold off, shut your ball mass up for
a little bit because we are expecting to see joe
A spot Oh joe A Spotta is here?

Speaker 2 (01:05:46):
You knock on my headset. We're not We're not paying
you yet. Sit down and relax. Have some water. We're
like some sunships. We'll talk to the skipper next on
seven ninety.

Speaker 13 (01:05:53):
More Matt Thomas Show with Ross now Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 8 (01:06:03):
It is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross. Every Tuesday
during the course of the baseball season. You hear from
this man at twelve thirty giver take depending on if
he's going out to get lunch or something forgets about us.

Speaker 2 (01:06:13):
Uh.

Speaker 8 (01:06:13):
And the biggest thing I just found out about our
manager Joe was spotted Ross, is that he is personally
responsible for the Rockets lost in.

Speaker 14 (01:06:22):
Absolutely He's all me, yeah, I thought he's going to
be an easy win, but things he can go their way.

Speaker 2 (01:06:29):
That night you start doing, I'm start going to y'alls
games against the A's and little you know what I do.

Speaker 14 (01:06:36):
I do have to say that, you know, when I
first started going watch him a couple of years ago,
and where they're at now, it's a very much improved team.
You know, those guys just you know there they were
young a couple of years ago. They're still young, but
they're more polish and actually pretty good basketball team of will.

Speaker 2 (01:06:53):
It's fun. It's a lot of fun. Let me ask you,
I don't win to o actress, what is your off season? Like,
I'm turn your microphon up a little bit? There there
we go. What are you doing the season?

Speaker 14 (01:07:00):
You know what I do some traveling with the family
and and and I go and catch a couple of
a couple of sports events. You know, went to a
few UH games, did the Rockets you know, went over
to Austin and watched up you know, Nithsey of Texas
basketball team, the women's basketball team. So you know, my

(01:07:20):
my daughters, they like to like to do stuff like that,
winn and watch the uh the soccer games. So so
we you know, we can't say no to sports events.

Speaker 11 (01:07:30):
So it's I can.

Speaker 8 (01:07:32):
Always find aj. It didn't take me very long about
the hour north of town.

Speaker 2 (01:07:35):
You know what I'm saying. But but you're all over
the place. Yes, yes, I do. I enjoy that.

Speaker 8 (01:07:39):
All Right, we're gonna hold this. I'm gonna ask one question, Ross,
you get one, and then we are done talking about one.

Speaker 2 (01:07:46):
Let's get to and then I swear to God we
will not ask you about it again until the regular season.
But if it's gonna have to come up, yeah, yeah,
he has to. Yeah, I get it.

Speaker 8 (01:07:57):
He is the consonant pro. You've talked about this for
are a period of time. He told us this off air,
and it's worthy of mentioning on air. This is not
something you just pushed about. Are you concerned at all?
Not about him catching fly balls. He's a grown up,
he's been around forever, done it? Are you concerned about that?
Runner trying to score from third to home. It's that
gonna be something that you're gonna keep a keen eye on.
When it comes to his work in left field, I'm.

Speaker 14 (01:08:18):
Not concerned about it. I think he will he will
figure that out and he'll he'll get it. So us,
being as a middling fielders, you know exactly where you
need to line up, you know exactly what the runner
behind you is doing. Now he's the one executing that
first throw. So that's that's the transcision that he needs
to make and I'm sure that he'll he'll do that.

(01:08:41):
So we're doing this by faces, right. I think Phase
one was, you know, at Diking Park. We we've worked
like for almost three weeks, fly balls, we deal our work,
we did some video, we work.

Speaker 11 (01:08:52):
On his techniques.

Speaker 14 (01:08:54):
You know, we we we talked about the challenging are
the challenging our wall is now Phase two is spring training.
Now is to sun the elements right the sun the win.
You know, now we'll you know, it's the base runners,
it's the strategy. It's runners trying to go first to third,
trying to challenge him. So we're going through all that
for the next two weeks. And but I'm sure that

(01:09:15):
he'll he'll figure it out. We're going to give it
everything we got. You know, he's his mindset, it's where
it needs to be and and I'm sure that we
If this works, it just makes our team that much better.

Speaker 8 (01:09:24):
He's such a smart player, he's got baseball DNA and
his in his in his blood.

Speaker 2 (01:09:30):
I think this is not just for him, it's for
any but you put out in left field. Baltimore is
gonna present some challenges. Detroit will post some challenges, Cleveland
a little bit. But if you knock down, if you're
a if you're a minute made park, you'll know the nuance,
the cracks and how the ball lands. King Park. Excuse me,
hit me next time there we go. Yeah, that's what
it is, right. That's not just for Hosal, for anybody.

(01:09:51):
It's for anybody that you know. The challenges that wall
is a challenge for any one. Family park is challenging
for anyone. You can have ten years experience to five
years experience. There's things that.

Speaker 14 (01:09:59):
He's gonna have to learn. But for us, we believe
that he can do it. There's confidence that he can
do it. He's an athlete. He shows his speed the
awareness to do to do the things that we expect
him to do. And you know, we got five weeks
here to continue to work on this. And you know
we're not going to completely abandon second base, but I
think by him playing some let field really opens the

(01:10:19):
door for us.

Speaker 11 (01:10:20):
You do other things on the baseball field.

Speaker 2 (01:10:22):
Yeah, speaking of learning as you go, take us through
how you're doing. Man, your journey the last year. Obviously
the start wasn't the way that you wanted to go.
You make the playoffs, also the early exit, and now
the team retooled this year. How are you have you
been going through this? And now in your in your
second year as the head man?

Speaker 12 (01:10:40):
You know what?

Speaker 14 (01:10:41):
So you know I had some time to, you know,
sit down and and and kind of take all in
what twenty twenty four meant for me personally and for
our team. And you know, during that time of reflection,
you you start writing down things that we could have
done better, things that I could have done better. And
you know, I when I met with our club yesterday,

(01:11:01):
I think we we I told them that we know
we need to be proud of twenty twenty four. You know,
we need not finish the race, and what we wanted to,
but we ran a strong race. We did what we
wanted to do, which was win the West. You know,
I also told our club.

Speaker 11 (01:11:15):
That, you know, our our team was tested like never before.

Speaker 14 (01:11:18):
You know, our culture got tested, our you know, our
commitment to winning got tested from the very beginning, and
we prevail.

Speaker 2 (01:11:25):
I think it was.

Speaker 14 (01:11:26):
It was a good season for us, despite you know,
early exit of the playoff.

Speaker 2 (01:11:31):
But I think we did some things well.

Speaker 14 (01:11:32):
And as a manager, I'm proud of the way we
battled back about the way. You know, I stay calm
and and have confidence on my on my club to
to get us to where we wanted to get to,
and I expect it to be, you know, a better
better twenty twenty five were ready for the challenge, and
I think twenty twenty four was the learning experience for
all of us.

Speaker 8 (01:11:51):
If I went back and we went back and looked
at the games and maybe talked to you right after
the deficit was ten games, tell me at that point
what you were thinking and does Dana come to you
and say, did we want to start selling?

Speaker 2 (01:12:05):
Because look, he maintained a confidence you did as well.

Speaker 8 (01:12:08):
But reality sits in that when when that difference gets
a ten that was that's as ugly of numbers against.

Speaker 14 (01:12:13):
Yeah, Matt, you know what one thing about uh, you
know you asked about Dana. He never used the word sale.

Speaker 11 (01:12:18):
Never did.

Speaker 2 (01:12:19):
That's a huge thing.

Speaker 11 (01:12:20):
It's huge, And it just goes to we really believe
on our team.

Speaker 14 (01:12:25):
And we always felt like we still had ninety one
hundred games to fight back, right we we we we
felt like once of our guys came back and you know,
our offense was going to click in, and we know
that we had to push in there and and and
we did. But you know, you know, they never there's

(01:12:46):
the word sold, never came in and play and and
I'm glad. I'm glad that we didn't. And I'm glad
that we add a Kikuchi who was a big boost
to our to our team doing that stretch.

Speaker 2 (01:12:55):
How excited are you to write three Christian Walker in
the lineup almost every day to last year at first base?

Speaker 14 (01:13:05):
You know what, the age is not an option there,
you know, we he's the best defender in the game
over there first He will probably need a new day
off here and there, not many but uh, but I
think that what Christian brings to our our club is
this uh level of you know, you know, leadership, his

(01:13:28):
ability to hit the ball to the ballpark, quality of
a bat, something that as a club we kind of
struggled last year a little bit our offense kind of
up and down and and and how we chase some pitches.
So him and Perets kind of bring that dynamic back
to our offense. But uh, Christian is a pro, and
I'm excited to have him. Let's get to the outfield.
Jane can cover everything. Yep, you're moving chance to right field.

Speaker 2 (01:13:49):
I don't want to say how long is the leash,
because look, everybody's got a leash of some level to
performance wise, I would say, if we took away the
left field situation, what's the thing that probably not a
lot arming, but we're looking to see productivity wise is
what you're nothing the guys can do defensively, but it's
on the offensive end. What were some things you told
to both those guys because we kind of joke with
Jake a little bit about his mate was spectacular. Yeah,

(01:14:12):
we need that Jake Myers for not to be that
high number like I was, but level out a little bit.

Speaker 14 (01:14:18):
Yeah, let's start with Jake, you know, and and I
had this conversation with Jake during the off season and
we touch on here and a couple of days ago.
You know, it's not you know that that may carry it.
You know that's repeating May and Jujule. No, it's just
you know, when there's when there's a drop down which
all players have, that it can be you know, two

(01:14:39):
hundred points in the ops.

Speaker 11 (01:14:41):
You know there's got to be a walk.

Speaker 14 (01:14:42):
You know, he can do things where he could lay
down a bunt, dis quality of back where the contribution
is still there. Because I told him this, I said, listen,
you know when I'm looking at my lineup card and
the game, it's when the game is closed.

Speaker 2 (01:14:55):
We have to lead.

Speaker 14 (01:14:56):
I want to keep you in the game because your
defense matters. You meet her and you know your defense
is game changing. But when the game is on the
line and you're not swinging the bat that the way
you're capable of, I need to make a move.

Speaker 11 (01:15:07):
I need to try to create some runs.

Speaker 14 (01:15:09):
And and now I'm I'm I'm taking my best defender
out of the game because I'm trying to, you know,
tack the lead and and I don't and I don't
And I told him, I don't. I don't like doing that,
but I told him, if I have to do it,
I will do it again. But I believe that he
made the adjustment. He needs to do the same conversation
with mac uh you know, you know, you know you
mentioned the leash and I told Mac, I said, Mac,

(01:15:31):
last year, I think the leash was long, and maybe
this year the leache might.

Speaker 2 (01:15:37):
Not be that long.

Speaker 11 (01:15:38):
So it's early production.

Speaker 14 (01:15:40):
I want to see you contribute to to you know,
to our offense and and and putting some good at
bats from the very beginning.

Speaker 11 (01:15:47):
And you know, we brought in some left handed bats
that could.

Speaker 14 (01:15:49):
Give me an opportunity to platuny if I have to,
But I'm going to you know, I want Mac and
Myers to take over those those jobs and and and
do what they're capable of doing.

Speaker 2 (01:15:58):
What what do you has to be a hard job,
because what do you look for when you win to
pull the leash? Because as you know, baseball is a
game where Hall of famers can struggle for fifty games
or more. So what are you looking for to say, okay,
this is time to make a change. The conversations. Is
it how the abats are looking? Is it I mean,
what do you do?

Speaker 14 (01:16:18):
You know, it first starts with, you know, with a
conversation in screen training. The players want to know their
roles and how big that leads. Yes, right, you know
you mentioned hall of famers.

Speaker 2 (01:16:27):
We we have, you have.

Speaker 14 (01:16:28):
We have quite a few here that have the chance
to be Hall of Famers. So obviously those guys are
in there and and they're gonna they're gonna put their numbers,
but put these young players who are starting to figure out,
you know, in the big leagues, and you got to
balance that out with wins and losses. They got to
show you from the very from the very first aid
that the quality of bets are there, that they're making
adjustments that they're not, you know, ignoring kind of the

(01:16:49):
things that we wanted them to work on.

Speaker 11 (01:16:51):
But the bats got to be productive.

Speaker 14 (01:16:52):
You got to hit the ball hard, you gotta walk,
you gotta you know, those are bats need to mean
something for you to be able to.

Speaker 11 (01:16:58):
Stay in there.

Speaker 8 (01:16:59):
Last question for you, Joe spotted with us here on
the Matt Thomas Show with Ross Skip where is the
battle Because everybody likes to put out their twenty six
man roster, uh and it feels pretty much set. You
may have some things in your mind, but where is
the competition for the next month, which I'm.

Speaker 2 (01:17:13):
Saying, well, you know, I think there is opportunities on
some bench rolls.

Speaker 11 (01:17:18):
I think there is.

Speaker 14 (01:17:20):
There is at least one or two spots there that
I view as competition. And I mentioned some of those outfielders,
left handed hitters there there's competition there.

Speaker 2 (01:17:30):
But also middle relief.

Speaker 14 (01:17:32):
I think that's where we are going to spend a
lot of our time where we got some of these
young pitchers who were there, who we like, who can
be that bridge to a Braille? And and and Hater
and on the ninth who can throw that sixth inn
and who can throw that seventh in? And who's going
to be the guy who's going to step up and
and hand the ball to a clean eighth inning to

(01:17:52):
a Braill. That's that's where the big questions are.

Speaker 8 (01:17:55):
We tease you a little bit last year about all
the Ombrellio appearances. Oh goodness, lesser bray you.

Speaker 2 (01:18:01):
Less or less? Every game was close last year? You
had to or less? Uh hater going to the second inning? Boy,
dream world? You want both of you know?

Speaker 14 (01:18:13):
You know I'm gonna start with it with the first
one here, it's less getting a brea up in the
seventh to finish the seventh, less of that, you know,
less of he having to go in the seven to
finish the eighth the seventh and then going back in
the eighth, and then I potentially have to get up
hater to pick him up, so you could, you know,

(01:18:34):
I need less of that, And that's for me where
right now we are really spending until the time trying
to figure that that also that also helps that that
also helps. But you still gotta, you know, prepare yourself
for like you well know, you know what happened last year.
You know, we all left spring training feeling really good
and sexy about our club and then all of a sudden, you.

Speaker 11 (01:18:56):
Gotta I learned that really quickly.

Speaker 2 (01:18:58):
You gotta you gotta have a plan B best like playing. Yeah,
all right, skip, thank you very much for the time.

Speaker 8 (01:19:02):
He's always we'll see you tomorrow and then our weekly
business looking forward to you were great last year in
good times and it bad and let's get away from
this owen whatever it was it owned four start.

Speaker 2 (01:19:11):
For yeah, I forgot that's Joe's spotted with this Matt
Thomas show.

Speaker 8 (01:19:16):
With Ross continues in a moment here from West Palm
Beach on Sports Talk seven hounty.

Speaker 13 (01:19:21):
More Matt Thomas Show with Ross now but Sports Talk
seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (01:19:32):
Thank you again to Joe's spotted for joining us.

Speaker 8 (01:19:34):
If you missed that conversation a where wry b We're
gonna replay it about one thirty secter and at least
part of that.

Speaker 2 (01:19:39):
So rooting for Joe. He loves the job, and I
think he does a good job. I don't want to
feel the curtain back a little bit, but we're gonna,
We're gonna open up.

Speaker 8 (01:19:48):
Dusty was amazing too. Dusty was just different, Dusty a
little crankier.

Speaker 2 (01:19:55):
Yes it's also Ay seventy you said, yeah it was.
Also it was significantly crankier, but still mad. Props him
right manager for the right time for this organization. Need
a steady hand, and Dusty was there right. Actually, be clear,
I was rooting for Dusty, rooting for Age. I look
forget about this microphone we've got on. I mean I
was an Astro fans since nineteen seventy nine. I mean
that's if I'm doing a show or not, it's not

(01:20:16):
gonna change. And so if the team plays well, I
love on him. If the team doesn't play well, like
I get macis, I'm a fan and see that's what
I'm saying. Ross. I'm a fan of the Rockets and
a fan of the Astros because I grew up with
those teams. Yes, and I'm good.

Speaker 8 (01:20:29):
I'm a fan of Cougars, who, by the way, being
Arizona State yesterday covered the spread, Cover the spread.

Speaker 2 (01:20:33):
You're welcome, Houston. I'm on a recorded line, so full
matchup breakdown from Matt time. I'm plenty happy with the teams.
I'm fanboys, I sam, I'm good. I got her funny.
If the Texas go to the super Bowl, then I
would be a fan of there. You want to take
it on a lot bey of bandwagon, a little more disappointment.
Take it on the Texans.

Speaker 8 (01:20:51):
Let's go good. I'm good, Ahtown too. We drowned, all right?
We got the news in new coming up and then
we've got more interviews straight ahead. I believe Camppen's gonna
come by, uh the top prospect of the Astros organization.

Speaker 2 (01:21:02):
UH probably could see him at some point this year,
you never know. And then we're gonna also believe you
catch up with Spencer Arraghetty real fast note that is
gaining some steam in the television world. You ready for this? No,
the Fox and CBS broadcast deals there are the They are.

Speaker 8 (01:21:23):
The ones that carry the you know, the Saturday noon
in three twenty five games, which the Texans are normally
at noon.

Speaker 2 (01:21:28):
Yes, I'm gonna look. I want to look this up
before I give you the official word on this. Are
you going with the Netflix thing? Yeah? Their contract ends sometime.
I mean they can opt out in five years. Apparently,
so I saw something about this.

Speaker 8 (01:21:44):
Is the network that wants to buy one of those packages,
either the Fox NFL package or the CBS package is Netflix?

Speaker 2 (01:21:54):
Yes? And also, though I saw the quotes, apparently this
got sensationalized by a lot of people. The person who
runs Netflix er who I don't even know, president of
business ops or what yeah, was asked was pushed basically
into a corner saying if that spot opened up, would
you be interested in He said yes, And then the
headline was Netflix wants to buy three o'clock Sunday package

(01:22:17):
Netflix all in Netflix, blah blah blah. So it did
get a little sensationalized if you look at the actual quotes.
The guy was asked, Hey, would you want these three
o'clock NFL games and they can or no. They asked
would you want Sunday games? He said yes, and they're
like Sunday night or Sunday at three, and he said
Sunday Sunday afternoon. I think they were talking about the
regional package. So if Netflix gets asked, would you be

(01:22:38):
interested in NFL games, of course their answer is yet,
I got a question for you, and it's not it's
a little bit of a quasi gut feeling on this. Okay,
do you think in the next ten years.

Speaker 8 (01:22:51):
That we're gonna be able to get every NFL game
available to every television set without having to pay for
a direct TV Sunday you two TV we're gonna have.

Speaker 2 (01:23:05):
You'll get your two on CBS. You're gonna get your
two on Fox. You're gonna get your two on Amazon Prime.
You're gonna get your two on Netflix. Apple TV is
gonna buy two. I mean, could you.

Speaker 8 (01:23:17):
See the world of the NFL, because think about this
college football does that right now?

Speaker 2 (01:23:25):
When I was growing up ross and you you were
part of this as well.

Speaker 8 (01:23:28):
You doesn't remember much Saturday afternoons on ABC were four
regional games or three regional games, and then they would
regionalize the night games. Now with all the money that
is being spent, if you're a Big twelve fan or
an SEC fan, if you're always use the SEC as
a better example, your games are either on ABC, ESPN or.

Speaker 2 (01:23:50):
The SEC network.

Speaker 1 (01:23:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (01:23:52):
I few are on the SEC Plus, which is like
the web streaming of it. And there's an ESPN Plus
for like some cougar stuff or you know, the game.
But in thory, just about every ESP Big twelve and
SEC and Big ten game can be found on one
of the networks they've aligned themselves with.

Speaker 2 (01:24:07):
Yeah, could you see that in the NFL the end
of the regionalization. No, I think they're gonna keep all
the games at noon and three, and they're gonna keep now.
It also depends. If you recall last year there was
a big judgment against the NFL. There was an anti
trust lawsuit. Right there was a like a lawsuit assuming
the NFL saying that the price of Sunday ticket was

(01:24:30):
the gougean yeah, exorbitant price, and they lost that case.
They're appealing that case. I don't know what the latest
it's already been appealed. I think I think the NFL won.
The NFL won. I believe the don't. Yeah, don't. I'm
not one hundred percent sure, but I believe the appeal
has already been saved. So if the NFL won, no,
it's gonna be a Sunday ticket. They must be making
enough money off of. Now that's the thing too. If
they lowered it to fifty dollars, you need rather than

(01:24:53):
three hundred dollars whatever it is, you need six times
the customers right to make that balance. So I don't
think that's gonna happen. I think they're happy with you.
Still think there's gonna be a regional packages on CBS
and five as long as they keep as long as
they keep paying, and as long as this Sunday ticket
money keeps coming in. I don't know that they would
see a reason why to change.

Speaker 8 (01:25:13):
But what if Netflix all of a sudden jacked up
their rates and said we're now covering seven NFL games
a week. And if you're a Netflix subscriber, let's say
you live in Pittsburgh, but you want to see the
Texans played the Baltimore Ravens, and that game was.

Speaker 2 (01:25:25):
Not supposed to be. Look, it could happen. Anything could change,
that's true. Yeah, I just I just thought about that
out lot.

Speaker 8 (01:25:29):
I was wondering if if we're because college football no
longer is regionalized. When you want when there's a big
ten game on that's on national TV, you're not You're
not fighting with another big ten channel.

Speaker 2 (01:25:39):
You're fighting with nobody. Your game is exclusive. The NFL
is king right now. They're getting all this money, they
get all that money from Netflix, They're getting all this
money for more games. They're gonna add more games. Maybe
with that, they're gonna see more streaming stuff with the
eighteenth game added, or you're gonna see more games on Netflix,
more on wherever else. Probably, I think the eighteenth game

(01:26:00):
is going to open up another revenue stream stream And
my guess is, you know what's gonna be? Could you?

Speaker 8 (01:26:07):
I still believe, and I don't know if this is
gonna happen, but I still believe that an eighteenth game,
everybody's gonna have to play internationally. You're gonna have to
play one international game per year. It's gonna be required.
And maybe you sell it to Netflix to say you're
now our international partner that any game that is broadcast
in Brazil, Australia.

Speaker 2 (01:26:26):
Zones, right London because their mornings. You're our partner. How
much do they want to get those? They clearly try
to because the NFL network. I got news for y'all
fans of the NFL network. The NFL is trying to
sell the NFL network. Yeah, they don't care about that.

Speaker 8 (01:26:39):
They don't care about the NFL network. I'd be surprised
they put games on that channel five years from now.

Speaker 2 (01:26:43):
Because they go sell them to somebody else they can
go exactly, why put them on your own network that
you're trying to build up that it's failing now that
they're cutting hours on all these people, they're firing their
shows because I think ESPN's gonna buy it, that's my guess.
And what's that gonna be? NFL network brought to you
by ESPN, ESPN, NF. I guess yeah, I think it'll be.
It'll be n SPN NFL. Yes on the SPSP NFL.

(01:27:06):
Whatever it is, Well, they'll figure something out, all right.

Speaker 8 (01:27:09):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven

Lunchtimers, this is the Matt Thomas Show four in h down.

Speaker 2 (01:28:16):
What's happening in lunch Timers? Normally we do the news
at noon, but we have a newsmaker with us now
Astro top phenom future third base slash, left field slash,
wherever you want to play. Cam Smith is with us
on the program, lake Worth, Florida. Is that correct? Yes, sir,
twenty five minutes from here. Twenty five minutes. Mom and

(01:28:36):
dad cook a good meal for you.

Speaker 16 (01:28:38):
That's right, every night, every night. And I'm helping her
out too, So I'm learning.

Speaker 2 (01:28:41):
Okay. So here's a chef.

Speaker 8 (01:28:43):
Here's the big he gets to keep all his travel
money for the spring training put in the piggy bank.

Speaker 2 (01:28:49):
Say that out him immediately, respect that this is the truth,
since you'd be like, Matt, don't tell anybody this. It's true. No,
it's true that Like it's very nice.

Speaker 8 (01:29:02):
All right, I've been asking all these guys. You get
the phone call, Yeah, you're going to play for the
Houston Astros.

Speaker 2 (01:29:07):
Yeah. What was your initial reaction?

Speaker 8 (01:29:09):
And then how long did it settle in before you're
leaving that the Cubs organization to come play for the
Houston Astros.

Speaker 16 (01:29:15):
Yes, so at first I was I was definitely shook
a little bit. I didn't honestly, I didn't know it
was possible that that you could trade a player right
after you draft them.

Speaker 11 (01:29:23):
But like I was, like I was talking to them.

Speaker 16 (01:29:26):
It's a business. And and once I got that call
from Carda Hawkins telling me the trade happened, Dana Brown
called me and welcomed me. And and after that, everybody
else in the front office called me and welcomed me.
So it felt good that that I was welcome with
open arms, for sure, you know, it felt it felt warming.

Speaker 8 (01:29:43):
It's kind of crazy, you know, that first round of
the draft, they try to make it like the NFL
and NBA draft. They take pictures of you, We're in
the Cubs gear and all of this, can't wait to
see you, and then months later you're wearing somebody else's gear,
right exactly. Yeah, Well, I mean, think about who you
got traded for. I mean, you didn't get traded for
Chopped Liver. I mean, so that's great. Yeah, and then
immediately you're the number one prospect in the organization. That's

(01:30:04):
got to mean you worked your ass off for that.
So take us through your life, because Y's you're built
like a linebacker. You and Descenzo could be ends on
the Houston Texas that have zero issue.

Speaker 16 (01:30:14):
With that, right, Yeah, No, Dezenzo is huge man, He's
a he's a different animal.

Speaker 2 (01:30:18):
Have you guys arm wrestled yet?

Speaker 10 (01:30:20):
No?

Speaker 2 (01:30:20):
No, I don't plan on doing. And I think he
got me you two arm wrestling. We'll do that after,
but I don't want him to break my arm. They're
not very strong, you know what of them are?

Speaker 10 (01:30:32):
All?

Speaker 1 (01:30:32):
Right?

Speaker 2 (01:30:33):
Shoot, the organization will be good, that's true. You give
me a cut, kay, you got good money coming your way.
I know where I can find you easy money. That's right.

Speaker 8 (01:30:41):
Okay, So, uh, tell us what Joe's told you so far,
what Dana has, and what are your frankly expectations coming
into camp this year.

Speaker 2 (01:30:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 16 (01:30:49):
So, talking to Dana early on when I got here
for the January camp, he mentioned right field to me
and just taking reps there because he wants me to
see how I move and how comfortable I am over there,
because obviously there needs there's some holes that need to
be filled. Right Talking to Joe, he he likes me
at third base, That's why I been. He said, that's
where I'm comfortable and he'd like to see me at
third as well. So I'm gonna I'm probably gonna do

(01:31:10):
a mix of both, you know, just to see what
I can do at both positions. We won't tell him,
but were you most comfortable third base? For sure? I've
always been a short stop my whole life. Got to
college in twenty two and became a third baseman, but
I've always been an infielder always.

Speaker 2 (01:31:26):
Who did you grow up watching? Learning the sport from?

Speaker 16 (01:31:29):
Man? I watched a ton of a ton of players,
but my favorite player growing up was Yasiel Puige.

Speaker 2 (01:31:35):
Yeah, really interesting, Yeah, my all time favorite. What made
him the guy? He was just ahead of his game.

Speaker 16 (01:31:41):
He was He was electric. I love the energy he brought.
He was just swaggy, smooth like. I just loved watching
him play.

Speaker 2 (01:31:48):
Man, you gonna so you're gonna pimp some home runs
like Yasiel? Yeah.

Speaker 16 (01:31:52):
I actually practiced it when I was young, to to
do what he does and try to swing like he does.

Speaker 2 (01:31:58):
Are you a bat flipper guy or a bat? I
would say there, yeah, I would say drop. I like
to like the slow drop. Yeah. So you're here now
obviously you've had these conversations, uh pressure for somebody like
you drafted in the first round. Now you're here. He
mentioned top prospect in the system. What's it like for
you to wanting to give it your all, to to

(01:32:18):
try your hardest, to work your hardest, but also maybe
not be too hard on yourself and feel too much
pressure either.

Speaker 16 (01:32:25):
Right, Yeah, I've had all these coaches here behind my
back and just telling me that you know you've got
the stuff. It's just all all it is now is
just honing in on your craft and you'll get there
with no issue. So it's just trusting that process. It
sounds corny, but it's real. You know, to not rust anything,
you know, don't be anxious in anything. But yeah, just

(01:32:46):
go about it day by day, rep by rep, and
just trust that you'll.

Speaker 2 (01:32:49):
Get to where you want to get to think about this,
Just get to the ball, make a decent throw because
the guy at first base is gonna grab everything.

Speaker 8 (01:32:56):
And and he's almost out yesterday. He's like it doesn't
have to hit the middle on my chest every single time. Now,
you don't want to take advantage of that, but you
know that you've got a great backstep.

Speaker 2 (01:33:04):
Over there, the best the best over there at first base.

Speaker 8 (01:33:09):
And what advice is I mean, you are you one
of those guys say hey, how do you handle this?
Or are you just kind of letting things naturally come to.

Speaker 16 (01:33:15):
You right now, I'm just kind of letting, letting the
dots come in my head and I'm purely watching instead
of instead of, you know, being vocal for now. You know,
I'm pretty new, but yeah, I'm just I'm just being
a sponge. I'm listening to what everybody has to say.

Speaker 2 (01:33:29):
I'm gonna give you a little vice about Houston and
sports fans.

Speaker 8 (01:33:32):
They're gonna love you when they see you, whether it's
on TV here or when you come to the big
league team.

Speaker 2 (01:33:36):
But we have more folks that call us about minor
league players than ever. So if you get off to
a fast start, you're gonna I don't know if you
check Twitter in very much, but people are gonna be
asking you when you get in up here, when you
get up here, so don't put it. Don't let the
social media streets put pressure on that. Because the team's
close and sugar Land, yeah, I was gonna say, it's
not a terrible drive, and you're not going to Fresne, California.
You know what I'm saying. It's gonna be not bad.

(01:33:56):
Itsed to be Oklahoma City before that, and fresnel. Yeah, yeah,
a quick shuttle here. What about your defensive game do
you want to work on?

Speaker 8 (01:34:05):
I mean, we've never seen you play, and we've only
seen the YouTube videos, and that's when we put the
good things out there. So what are some nuances a
third base that present not necessarily challenges, but thing you
always want to work on.

Speaker 16 (01:34:16):
I always want to work on a lot of removement
and just moving my feet like kind of they say,
dancing like, you know, dancing out there in the field,
being smooth.

Speaker 2 (01:34:23):
That's what it takes to stay at their base.

Speaker 3 (01:34:25):
For a while.

Speaker 2 (01:34:25):
I don't.

Speaker 16 (01:34:25):
I don't really want to be a robot. I want
to be flexible. Yeah, and and be able to get
you know, some range, some good range.

Speaker 2 (01:34:31):
Is there such a thing as in field chemistry? Do
you believe in that?

Speaker 16 (01:34:34):
One hundred percent? Yeah, one hundred percent, Because you know
the ranges of your shortstop. The shortstop knows the ranges
of the second basement, and same thing for the second
basement in the first basement. So it's just like knowing
each other and knowing what balls like you can get
and what balls you should leave for the shortstop.

Speaker 2 (01:34:49):
Yeah. So you the shortstop here, of course, Jeremy Pagnet
Gold Glover, Alex Bregman raining gold Glover. Now of course
with the Red Sox and so kind of a that
to go back to the pressure, well, but that the
the the bar has been kind of set defensively here
at the Astros organization.

Speaker 16 (01:35:07):
Yeah, one hundred percent. They take pride in their defense.
And that's what I love because that's what I want
to improve on the most, and and they take pride
in it. And you know, I'm just I'm being a sponge,
like I said, I'm listening to whatever they say, and
I'm all in, let's.

Speaker 2 (01:35:19):
Go, all right, you're gonna hit your first home run
at Diykin Park eventually. Where do you want to hit
your first road home run?

Speaker 16 (01:35:25):
Right center?

Speaker 2 (01:35:26):
I mean park? Oh a certain park? Okay, I go
over all that. I don't care, I don't care. What
fins you going? Okay?

Speaker 16 (01:35:33):
Okay, yeah, Dodger Dodger Stadium.

Speaker 2 (01:35:35):
Dodger stated they don't like the Astros there. You know that, right?
I understand that's the right field the Yankee Stadium pretty easy.

Speaker 16 (01:35:41):
Yeah, no, yeah, it's a short porch over there.

Speaker 2 (01:35:43):
Yeah. So Dodger Seaman Stadium one.

Speaker 11 (01:35:45):
Yeah, it's just like all the lights are on you,
all right.

Speaker 2 (01:35:49):
Uh.

Speaker 8 (01:35:49):
As a third basement in the minor league ballparks, you
probably hear the fans a little bit. Four wrap things up,
give me some good mature you've heard and something you're
like you either shake your head and go what are
you talking about?

Speaker 16 (01:35:59):
I don't know, Honestly, I don't know, even though if
I can say it, Oh, okay, we.

Speaker 8 (01:36:04):
Have a we have a special only show. Will tell
us during the print and we'll we'll clud it up
for the audience later.

Speaker 2 (01:36:10):
That's funny.

Speaker 16 (01:36:10):
Yeah, because going to Omaha last year. Uh, those fans
are in your year, man, the Tennessee fans, they're they're rough.

Speaker 8 (01:36:17):
That's right, Hey, Camp, it was great visiting with you.
We wish you nothing of the very best, very excited
and uh man, I'm so excited. But you have a
great time, hope. It's a short trip down in sugar Land, yes,
because it's like ninety five degrees outside.

Speaker 2 (01:36:28):
I can't get the hell out of here. You're used
that way? What am I talking about? You're used to this, Paul,
What are you talking about? It's h would here all
the time? Is yeah, he's lived in it all right,
jam Smith joining us here on the program. Thank you
for we appreciate it.

Speaker 8 (01:36:40):
Short time out. It is twelve thirteen. Matt Thomas Show
with Ross continues here on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 13 (01:36:47):
Back to Matt Thomas and Ross via real on Sports
Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 8 (01:36:56):
All right, little late that member, It is the Thomas
Show and Ross on Sports Talk seven on ey gendas
are the Astros pair director brought us lunch.

Speaker 2 (01:37:06):
He's actually taking the food away from us. Well, he says,
arrag Getty may be postponed to tomorrow. That's fine, so
we'll see. We you know, we gotta do.

Speaker 8 (01:37:14):
We gotta do the news at noon, yes, and then
we gotta do some shut shoball mass up. Oh, yes,
we got people on the line. We're gonna talk to
Paul in a couple of seconds too, but first we
owe you you need the news at noon.

Speaker 2 (01:37:25):
Here's wrong, Yes, Matthew, the News at noon Well begins with,
of course Astro stuff. We were out here at beautiful
sunny West Palm Beach, Florida for the Astros spring training
there and do the second day of full team workouts,
and of course the hot topic has been host Al
Twove and his work out in left field. Getting the
news today from Joe Aspata that he will be in

(01:37:46):
the outfield for the first game of spring training. But coach, Joe,
I mean a manager, Joe Aspata says, there's a lot
of work to be done before that happens.

Speaker 14 (01:37:55):
Hi, I'm thinking another another week. I want him to
I want us to cover a lot of information and
and go over some stuff before we put him out
there in a game. So I'm not gonna, you know,
share which game I'm thinking about, but you know, I
want him just to feel comfortable and make sure that
we do cuts and relays, we throw to the bases.

Speaker 11 (01:38:17):
We we havet fly ball communication today.

Speaker 14 (01:38:19):
We got to cover a lot of a lot of
ground before before I before I give him.

Speaker 11 (01:38:23):
Those first retch in the inn agame.

Speaker 2 (01:38:26):
And the guys working on outfield communication today as well
as part of the workouts. Matt, you know, communication is
supporting ross. Communication is key in any relationship. Yeah, we
don't have great communication for the two of us, but
we've still been able to work. Okay, we're making it. Okay.
It's so we only communicate for a living, but probably
we should be better. But that's okay. So jose Al
to Bate. Needed to get some work done there and

(01:38:47):
still though going to be in game number one of
the spring training of spring training, expected to be and
out in the outfield where Ryan Gusta will be starting that.
Your thoughts on Ryan Gusto starting the first game you'll
pitch probably an inning, inning in a third our twenty
five pitches. Felt good, feels good. Can't wait to get
out there, take my job responsibility seriously and do the

(01:39:08):
best with can win some game. All right, Matt, thank you.
That's very good coach speak there. Let's keep it going
with some more news at noon. The exclusive dropping today
from the Houston Chronicle boasts Dylan Maginnis and Jonathan m
Alexander writing up a report the headline Houston Texans may

(01:39:29):
seek public money to build new football stadium. New team president,
hired last month, touted part of his resume quote extensive
history in the stadium development. Matt Thomas, you had been
reading the tea leaves on that at a while, and
now the report driving dropping it today that the publicly

(01:39:52):
financed home NRG Stadium has been opened since two thousand
and two. It's going to take an estimated one point
four billion dollars needed to renovate the stadium. So what's
gonna happen now?

Speaker 8 (01:40:05):
Because here's the thing, these are numbers we're seeing that
are just astronomical. I mean, it's so flippant for us
to say, well, if it's one point four to refurbish
or two and a half billion to read create, well
what's another billion?

Speaker 2 (01:40:16):
Among friends? Every dollar is accounted for, who wants to
pay that, Well, it's gonna be us. Apparently the taxpayers
of Harris County are still paying off the NRG stadium.
According to this report, the stadium debt incurred twenty five
years ago. The Harris County Sports Houston Sports Authority is

(01:40:37):
still owing one billion dollars in principal debt on the
bonds that paid the bill and energy back in the day.
So a billion still don't on this stadium and one
point four billion needed to renovate it. I don't know
how the public's gonna react to needing some possibly possibly
needing some more public money to line the pockets of
people who are billionaires already.

Speaker 8 (01:41:00):
If any I'll say this again, if any league has
an ownership group that can pay for a stadium itself,
it's the NFL ownership perhaps more than the other ownerships
of other sports leagues, but that don't work that way.
I'm gonna put I'm gonna put a see my Twitter
poll question is not gonna be I'm not battlered, Matt,

(01:41:20):
So it's kind of I don't think I'm gonna get
as large of a number. But I think if you
went to the people in the next calendar year and
said will you will are you willing to help contribute
tax dollars to a new facility shorter than one of
the Super Bowl, It's gonna be a resounding oh hell no, as.

Speaker 2 (01:41:38):
It should be. These people are billionaires. They want to
renovate this stadium because they want more money from World
Cup finals. And it doesn't it doesn't enhange your experience.
It enhances the corporate experience. And you know, if you're
trying to sell us on all there's gonna be all
these new businesses. Where's all the new businesses and things
to do around NRG Stadium right now? You can't sell
that at all. I'm telling you. If I I'm gonna contribute,

(01:42:00):
which I betued I'm going to as a taxpayer living
in Harry's count.

Speaker 8 (01:42:04):
I am under no circumstance. Want a refurbished energy Get
me out of there. It's a place where you go,
you sit, and then you leave, actually tailgate. You sit
there in the second quarter and you leave mid fourth
quarter to go tailgate for a little bit before you leave.
Spending any dollars in that area of town to refurbish

(01:42:26):
that facildy, to create a clubs, restaurants, city walk, whatever
you want the hell you want to call it, Rossie,
we can't even get the damn astronom to implode it.
How in the hell are we going to now add
a billion dollars to refurbish that area With that albatross
sitting around the Energy stadium neck.

Speaker 2 (01:42:44):
It's it's a it's an un Is it unviable? Does
that make sense? Untenable? Unattenable situation?

Speaker 8 (01:42:50):
Under no circumstance should we spend a dollar refurbishing Energy stadium.
If you want a new palace, come to the table
with a lot more money than you're probably gonna want
to do it and build your facility anything Woodlands, Sugarland, Well,
you're not building.

Speaker 2 (01:43:08):
East other than the Eastie Baytown, no love for Baytown, Maddie,
no Bay No Baytown, No no, and I mean, if
you're gonna go Bay Tank Mills will stay by energy
state where it is now. Sorry, but that's just the truth. Well,
some stadiums recently built. Allegiance Stadium in Las Vegas used
seven hundred and fifty million dollars of public money. Sofi

(01:43:31):
Stadium in Inglewood was privately built but was also apparently
helped by tax breaks from Inglewood and then Atlanta. Arthur
Blank's Mercedes Benz Stadium that opened in twenty seventeen used
about two hundred million of public.

Speaker 8 (01:43:49):
I don't find a stadiums, but the Texans brought a
new president in that does.

Speaker 2 (01:43:54):
Good luck? Bra all right? Moving along in the news
at noon the Mat some more baseball news. We talked
about Ose Jose Altuve moving to left field, willing to
do whatever we did earlier, willing to do whatever it
takes to improve the team. Alex Pregnant asked about where
he wants to play, and Boston says, I am playing,

(01:44:15):
I will play wherever. I'm super excited just to be
Dever's teammate. He's a great player. I think everybody in
this clubhouse is worried about winning and whatever it takes
to help the team win. That's all I'm focused on.
I will play wherever Coorra tells me to play. Of
course he's gonna say that. He has to say that.

(01:44:37):
We know Alex Brigman. He doesn't necessarily wear his heart
on his sleeve in these in these press availabilities, he's
gonna keep things close to the Yes, he is taking
in field at third base. Privately, I'm gonna guess he
wants to be third base as he should. He's literally
the raining gold glass is go for it. Yeah, I
totally agree. Let's keep it moving mad here on the

(01:45:00):
news at noon. Appreciate Brandon for sending this along. The
NFL has announced yet another game, Week one in sal Pado, Brazil,
the Los Angeles Chargers hosting this second ever game in Brazil.
Despite all the complaints about the turf in the stadium

(01:45:20):
and security, yeah, and issues in South Pello, Brazil. Right,
NFL said, Hey, that check cleared last year. It's kind
of clear again, Let's go to Brazil.

Speaker 8 (01:45:30):
Would you put the Texans in Week one against the
Chargers or due to play a road game in Los Angeles?

Speaker 2 (01:45:34):
That is Chargers? Why not? That's a good matchup? Last
year was what Eagles packers quick early under Texas were
on a network exclusive broadcast four times five? Was you
counting Netflix? Yeah? Anything? Okay, Here we go standalone as
they call it, Dallas, Baltimore, Kansas City. That's three, Detroit four?

(01:46:03):
Am I forgetting one? Uh? Chicago? You mentioned the Jets
hold on jets for Thursday night. Okay, so here we
go Chicago, NBC, Detroit, NBC, Dallas, Monday Night, Baltimore, Baltimore four,
New York Jets, New York Jets five. That's and then uh,

(01:46:26):
Kansas City six on the Saturday? Yeah? Yeah? Was it? Six? Six? Six?
Ten A loans? The number will be no more than
four this year with the Texas. Oh you heard me?
I disagree. Oh you think you're going on no more
than well, I mean, okay, if you're setting the number
at four and a half, I'll fit the under. That's

(01:46:46):
a good one. I'll lo it over.

Speaker 10 (01:46:50):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (01:46:51):
Let me look at the old future schedule. That's the
first place schedule I'm going over. Okay, No, I'm not
going to bet you does not bet it though? And
at my friends? Is the news at New Real quick?
Before we get to what we're gonna move shut your
boss up to right in the next segment. How about
that sounds great? Let's talk to Can you put Paul
up for me? I can't think I can hit it eron,
don't hurt yourself. Hi, Paul, you're on seven hoey, Thank
you for waiting. Good afternoon.

Speaker 17 (01:47:12):
Hey, thanks guys. That was an awesome interview with Cam Smith.
I mean, I didn't really know much about the guy
obviously haven't seen him play, but said all the right things,
really smooth, And I mean the more I think about
that trade, the better I'm actually feeling about it. I mean,
we've got a guy that could be on the team
for seven, eight, ten years whatever. With Smith was Nasky's

(01:47:35):
talented and you know, Parentis is going to be a contributor.
So I mean, I think we did a good job
getting what we could get. But here's my best case
scenario for the Astros in this upcoming season. I want
to hear what you guys think all the starting pitchers
that we have now pitch well they Oh and by
the way, Eric Gett, he's a great interview too. I'll
look forward to hearing that tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (01:47:56):
Yeah, he's can probably be tomorrow that we found out,
but continue on please.

Speaker 17 (01:48:00):
Yeah, So the starting pitchers we have now all pitch well,
including Woznewski's. You got five, then you've got three guys
coming back again. Best case scenario, McCullers, Javier Garcia. That's
eight starting pitchers potentially, right. So obviously you could put
one or two or three of them to the bullpen.
But in my perfect scenario, these guys all pitching well.

(01:48:22):
One of them you can deal directly to another club
that's got a hitting surplus, get an outfielder.

Speaker 2 (01:48:27):
What do you think, m It's hard for me to
guess on trains right now. Thank you for the phone call.
It's I mean, Paul, to your point, I think Dana
likes to make moves. I don't think Dana's going to
be gunshy about doing something, especially to improve a particular spot.
And I don't mean to speaking generics here, but I

(01:48:49):
can't tell you right now. Honestly, Chas McCormick and Jake
Myers have little value. Your pitching staff doesn't have tremendous value.
Not getting rid of a hunter.

Speaker 8 (01:49:01):
If things go sideways, you will move from Barvaldez the deadline.
You're not moving, Hunter Brown you're not moving Spencer Arraghetty. Uh,
so there's two fits of your rotation that you're not moving. Uh,
you have no return. You have no return on Garcia Wasnsky.
I don't think you've got any value. I mean that
he's got no he's got very little major league experience.

(01:49:22):
I don't think there's much that you can say, let's
trade for this guy, and you're not moving camp Smith.

Speaker 2 (01:49:26):
You just got him in the Kyle Tucker trade.

Speaker 8 (01:49:28):
So I don't I don't know where the moves are
coming from, because we're still looking at about four months
before we really.

Speaker 2 (01:49:33):
Get a real strong samples out of who this baseball take.
You don't have a surplus of assets at the major
league level, uh, a position player or pitching one. Like
You're you're good your set, but you don't have a surplus,
and you don't have a surplus in the farm system.
So that means to me they're gonna look internal more
than external for the improvements. That means Cam Smith, who

(01:49:54):
we just interviewed, getting up and getting ready at some point.
All right, ladies and gentlemen, it's an hour late, but
it's still worth doing because we like having it. For
some fun with this.

Speaker 8 (01:50:04):
If you want to tell somebody to shut their bum
asses up, very simply, you call seven one three two
one two five seven nunti. Because if you eight run
out of time for something, ain't nobody got time for something.
Seven one three two one two five seven nunti. Seven

at RV twenty percent off today.

At two Creeks Crossingresort dot com. That's two Creeks Crossingresort

Here, let again, tamp here, Let.

Speaker 2 (01:51:13):

Speaker 13 (01:51:17):
Tampadad here, Let me again, damp here, Let me again,
tamp here, Let me again, Time here, Let me again,
damp today.

Speaker 2 (01:51:26):
All right, let's go. It's our favorite part of the week.
An hour later than usual because of the great guests
we've had so far. We had uh Hayden Wiznski joined
the show. We had Cam Smith joined the show. Joe A.
Spotta was on the program. If you missed Joe spot
a conversation, it's coming up a replay of the best
of that in less than an hour. Right now, we
talk with you at seven one three two one two

(01:51:46):
five seven, Hunty. If someone will not shut up.

Speaker 8 (01:51:51):
Someone that irritates you, someone that you're mad at, simply
tell them to shut their bumbasses up.

Speaker 2 (01:51:58):
Sits o bum ass up. Man. If somebody at the
office you're trying to have lunch and he's giving you
a long story, about his grandkids or a long story.

Speaker 8 (01:52:08):
About sorry tough traffic, trippy head that are going to
the office, and you want to tell him, ain't nobody
got time for that.

Speaker 2 (01:52:14):
That's what we're here for.

Speaker 1 (01:52:16):
Hey, nobody get time.

Speaker 8 (01:52:17):
For seven one three two one two five seven ninety
seven one three two one two five seven Hunting Ross.

Speaker 2 (01:52:25):
What's the matter with you? Let's see. You know I
was gonna do the uh schm United Airlines. Yeah, for
the delays that we had. Yes, But at the end
of the day, if you just land safely, Matt, you're
happy the way things are going with the airlines. So
I'm gonna turn my attention to the Houston Texans. If
you think that I want to spend any public money.

(01:52:47):
If you're you're still a billion dollars in debt from
the last stadium, you're looking for a new stadium just
so you can continue to line your pockets with bigger
games and more bells and Wilston's and all that type
of stuff. Texans, we don't to pay for your stadium
as the the value of the franchise continues to go
up and up and up and up into the billions.
Shut you, obumb ass up. Shit obum ass up man.

Speaker 8 (01:53:09):
I just put a Twitter poll question up in less
than two seconds ago. I don't like to do two
yeses and one no is an option, but I'm gonna
do it anyway. My question is this, as long as
it's deemed reasonable, should taxpayer should tax money be used
to help the Texans build a new stadium?

Speaker 2 (01:53:25):
Yes? I love them twenty four to seven, win a
Super Bowl? Then all in or no?

Speaker 8 (01:53:30):
You want it your money again? I know, so I'm
gonna take the two yeses and combine them uh and
then a no. So you guys get your vote in at.

Speaker 2 (01:53:40):
Seven one three two one two five seven on you
are on Twitter at sports. That's what we call you,
the pole master man. They called me a lot of things,
but I don't think the pole master is one of
the things they call me. We know you love poles,
all right? Ummm set one three two five seven. Tell
you want to tell me to shut my bumb ass up? No, no, no,
We've had a good time here so far. We have

(01:54:02):

Speaker 12 (01:54:06):

Speaker 2 (01:54:07):
Ain't nobody got time saying it, Maddie for this gross
house blend you call it, Burt, He's burnt, burnt two
days in a row. Spe Ain't nobody got time for
bad taste and coffee the hotel that probably says you
will serve you breakfast. I like smoke ribs and brisket.
I don't like smoked coffee. Ain't nobody got time for

(01:54:30):
burnt coffee. If I want burnt coffee, I'll go to
the State Fair Coffee on a steak. This might have
been powdered eggs too. I didn't need to scrambling, you
know what, I'm gonna scramble legs. Guys, Well, let's it's
just my tacos.

Speaker 11 (01:54:40):
No.

Speaker 2 (01:54:42):
Whatever. I'm not even gonna talk to you about this.
But those were terrible. They were like literally powdered or something.
That's fine, horrible. Well, I don't need anymore. And then
I'm gonna eat it. I eat a bunch of cereal,
and then you're gonna eat something. They've been bitch about
it before and after shuts up. We're on tight budgets
and it's and it's free man, all right, that's fine.
We're going against each other here. That's not good.

Speaker 8 (01:55:06):
Seven on three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two two five You know we've been together
too much of the same room together. Although I'll say this,
you've been quiet. Yeah, except for the occasional coughing fit.

Speaker 9 (01:55:19):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (01:55:19):
Your coffee fits are uh anywhere in the morning. Anybody
got time for your coffin fits.

Speaker 2 (01:55:23):
That I'm telling you you got this. I ain't got
time for it. I get sick with the best of them.
You've been sick for like six weeks. It's getting better, Matt, incrementally.
You were sick at twenty twenty four. Connor, freak on
the Phonees, Connor, what's the matter with you?

Speaker 18 (01:55:36):
So Valentine's Day was on Friday, and then so we
went for a drink, had dinner, and then we're gonna
go somewhere else for a drink. I had a reservation
for that cocktail lounge, bar whatever. They called me while
I'm at dinner to confirm our reservation. I said, yes,
we're still planning on coming. And I said, are you
aware of the bar tab minimum. I'm like, no, didn't

(01:55:57):

parties two to five. It's one hundred and fifty dollars
bar t who No, I nobody got time for one
hundred and fifty bars have mini minimum for two people,
and also just not letting me know beforehand when making

I told her straight up him like I'm not I'm
just kidding. I'm not paying war without naming the restaurant
lists or a sponsor. Where did you go eat your
Valentine's centner?

Speaker 2 (01:56:29):
I'm trying to trying to rhyme it. Motto is the
oh motto? Yeah? I rhymed it? There you a motto?
Why are you calling him out? Why are you putting
him on front street like that? Because I want to
know where he went? And he chose tell everyone. No,
he can tell he went to motto And that's an
excellent call. You don't have to answer these questions. You
got a Caesar salad, a brick and a brick oven pizza.

(01:56:51):
That's that's reasonable, It's delicious, and it's it's a very uh,
very classic. Martina is very happy you went there. Martina
is very pleased. All right, one before we get to
the break. We got a lot of folks that want

We can see that on Friday.

Speaker 18 (02:01:42):
As soon as you guys, as soon as we come
back from Brick, I had the speakers loud in the studio.
Dan Dan came in, walked out, and then as soon
as we went live, you said I heard Neo's in
the studio and he's right outside the door.

Speaker 2 (02:01:52):
So hopefully you didn't hear that. Okay, where's Dan Matthews
right now? I think he just like I think you
just wapped up in the O.

Speaker 8 (02:01:58):
Actually, tell tail Dan to come in to run the
board for one second so you can go get your
picture with Neo.

Speaker 2 (02:02:02):
Yeah, that's okay. Is it a single person or group?
Just start playing one of his songs super loud to
open the door. Yeah, and he can start singing. I'm
gonna say it's off the hook seven one three, two
one two five seven eight. I really don't know who

They shut Chobum mass Up goes out to on our
local sports teams GMS. So a few weeks ago we
heard rumors that a certain second basin was willing to
go to the outfield to keep a third basemin here
with a third basin's gone now and this ding dong
of a guy gives us this word salad, this crap.
He's like, we needed a beat in the upflood, so
we got one. Now it doesn't work like that, bro,

(02:02:49):
Now you're just bringing Dubon.

Speaker 2 (02:02:50):
At second base.

Speaker 10 (02:02:51):
Leave out to me at second base as it should be.
Put out Dubon out there, you ding dong.

Thank you, hav Air uh.

Speaker 1 (02:03:05):
Man.

Speaker 8 (02:03:05):
I might have thought of that like a week ago,
but they've been talking to Jose about this for a
long period of time.

Speaker 2 (02:03:12):
Jose knows that he's a minus second basement. I mean, yeah,
this idea wasn't hatched because of Bregman coming back, right,
is what we've hed.

Speaker 8 (02:03:21):
It sounds like that the puzzle pieces were fitting in.
But if even if Bregman was coming back or not
coming back, they were making the move, that mean clearly
they're not They didn't abolish this idea because Alex bregmant
side with the Boston Red Sox.

Speaker 2 (02:03:33):
Right, we as we discussed with Joe Spotter earlier today,
and you can hear that again. Yeah, we'll got that
one thirty coming up today.

Speaker 8 (02:03:38):
By the way, Brian on Twitter says, can't call in,
but two weeks ago, I bought a bouquet of flowers
with a wife for ten bucks Valentine's Day, the same store,
exact same bouquet, forty two dollars.

Speaker 2 (02:03:50):
Nobody got time for that. Well there it is. I
got terrible news for your Brian.

Speaker 8 (02:03:59):
It's called dynamic pricing, and Valentine's Day is dynamic as
it comes for flowers.

Speaker 2 (02:04:04):
It's called gouging. That's another word for it. That's true.
But if we owned a flowershop, we did the exact
same thing. Absolutely. I was welcome to America, baby, capitalism.
Let's go Valentine's Day, Mother's Day. That's about it. Uh
you drink my water? Okay, relax, all right? Yeah, I'm sorry.

(02:04:26):
I it's it's rassed. It's capitalism.

Speaker 1 (02:04:31):
Yeah, you know what you should do?

Speaker 2 (02:04:32):
Well, now build a rose orchard, sell your own let's go,
or you know what, give your wife's we love.

Speaker 8 (02:04:39):
Instead of the flowers, and don't spread free Huh, well
it depends.

Speaker 2 (02:04:46):
Nothing ain't free of that. I'm sorry, you know, paying
a heavier price for that. Oh boy, Anyways, we're gonna
say anything else. No, I'm done, all right, I'm done.
Seven three to what five seven ninety. I can't see
the Greg and Oklahoma. Greg's in Oklahoma, the entire state
of Oklahoma. Yes, you thought, because I can't see how

(02:05:08):
it is Greg where you called us? RUMs?

Speaker 15 (02:05:11):
Hey, what's going on, guys? I'm in Houston. The last
time I called you, guys, I was in Oklahoma coming
home from the College World Series.

Speaker 2 (02:05:17):
But now I'm just who I got our system saves
your numbers, so.

Speaker 15 (02:05:22):
Yeah, that's pretty funny. No, I'm I'm just here out
and on the west side, so I'm grata on the
tweet sometimes.

Speaker 3 (02:05:30):
Then hey, you.

Speaker 15 (02:05:32):
Guys, I gotta I ain't got no time or Channel
two on their biggest night that's not NFL football related.
Who cannot figure out how to not switch over from
the Saturday Night Live special And it was like fifteen
or twenty minutes worth and they didn't go back. Just disaster,
and I don't think that they've done anything about you know,
we're gonna try to show it again or anything like that.

(02:05:54):
So I'm gonna have to go to Peacock or something
to try to get it. So it's just that's that
was terrible.

Speaker 8 (02:06:00):
I totally agree with you, Greg. I'm very sorry anybody
got time for you Channel two screwing that up. I
got terrible news for you. The NBC affiliate in Washington,
d C. They got the memo. We had no issues.

Speaker 2 (02:06:12):
Uh yeah, well I thought it was okay most places,
does that like the news director's call or something. No.

Speaker 8 (02:06:17):
I think something happened where the line of communication with
people at Channel two.

Speaker 2 (02:06:23):
The memo didn't get pass around, because here's the bit
I had to know whoever switched to. If you're even
if you make.

Speaker 8 (02:06:29):
That mistake, you're doing a live news show. You can
come back and say, hey, there's more SNL. Let's go
back to SNL more than the news coming up. After this,
they doubled down on their news.

Speaker 2 (02:06:39):
They said, you know what, not only are we not
going to carry the twenty extra minutes, but we're gonna
keep giving you news about what's happening with the gunfire
in the west part of town. Here, here's five piping
hot new murders. Let's go local news. You know what
I'm would have backed.

Speaker 8 (02:06:53):
Let me tell you I would have lost my ever
blank and blank because Paul McCartney's my guy, He's America's guy,
he's from England.

Speaker 2 (02:07:02):
Well he still is bull up by every American, not everywhere.

Speaker 8 (02:07:05):
One of the greatest singers of all time, songwriters and
a hell of a guitar player, songwriter.

Speaker 2 (02:07:09):
We can talk singer, not so much. Oh my god,
shut your bumb ass up, mane.

Speaker 1 (02:07:15):
Shut cho bum ass up, man.

Speaker 2 (02:07:17):
This is Connor Dan hitting those fire out fire in
those dead. Did Connor get a we must know, did
he get a picture with the Oh that's my fault. Sorry,
I was still trying to look out the window. Are
you got your you got you got in your picture yet?

Speaker 1 (02:07:28):
No?

Speaker 8 (02:07:28):
I think they're gone. All right, I'm gonna are you serious?
So Dan knew that you're such a big fan of
se Lo or whatever his name is, and and you
get nothing, That's that Dan's fault. I'm easier to blame Dan.
By the way, Adam Plan, I cannot read your shut
your bumass up on the radio.

Speaker 2 (02:07:46):
I know what you said. I can't do it, Adam Plan,
shut your bumas Plan, shut your bumb ass ups up. Man,
anybody got time for you? Working about six hours over
the next two weeks, gonna be a sl It'll be
a light schedule too, Maddie to Brian Erics. So nobody
wants to send us to a tape to lay games.
They want to hear the live games. Yeah, that's with

(02:08:07):
pregame coverage starting with Chris Gordy at ten am.

Speaker 9 (02:08:10):
I like it.

Speaker 2 (02:08:11):
I like it all right. Uh, I think we're good.
By the way, my pole question not going well. Sounds
like the mcnahirs are getting told to shit there, bum
ass up. Let's see here again.

Speaker 8 (02:08:23):
The question is on Twitter as sports empty, as long
as it's deemed it ri reasonable, should tax money be
used to help the text and to build a new stadium.
You get two chances for a yes okay, and you
get one for a O. Yes love them twenty four
to seven, win a Super Bowl and then all in
no you want it your money? Sixty eight percent say no,
you want it your money, seventeen percent they love them

(02:08:46):
twenty four to seven, fifty percent they win a super
Bowl and all in and our one hundred and fifty
votes in eighteen minutes, So people have an opinion about
this pretty quick, and that my friends wraps up, shut
chow bum ass up. But I got time for that
all right news headline check coming up at one o'clock
bottom of next hour. In just thirty minutes, you are

(02:09:06):
going to hear the replay the best of the conversation
that Rossie and I had with one Joe Aspota here
on Sports Talk seven ninet.

Speaker 2 (02:09:15):
You want to tell you about uptown appliance repair.

Speaker 8 (02:09:18):
There's nothing more aggravating than you be in a position
that you can't use the appliance as you spent thousands
of dollars on. What if you've got a high end refrigerator,
an ice maker. Maybe you've got a gas grill outside
that needs repair. What if you went and your wife
spent crazy cash on the most amazing washer and dryer,
or that high speed dishwasher two eight one seven, five eight,

(02:09:42):
nine nine seven eights number you can call to get
everything fixed and schedule a service. Two eight one seven,
five eight nine nine seven eight. Their goal is to
ease the stress that comes with a broken appliance. Give
them a call. They're there to help. Bobby fearro On.
The crew at Uptown Appliance Repair want to hear from
you if you want to have things just checked. Preventive
maintenance is also key, especially if you're getting the high

(02:10:04):
end stuff. Two eight one seven, five eight nine nine
seven eight. That's two eight one seven, five eight nine
nine seven eight for our good friends at Uptown Appliance Repair.

Speaker 1 (02:10:17):
Lunchtimers. This is the Matt Thomas Show.

Speaker 8 (02:10:21):
All right, final hour the Matt Thomas Show. Here with
Ross we are coming to you from West Palm Beach.
We have some more news that's not gonna help. The
McNair's in their chaser for public money for our new
stadium if they so choose to.

Speaker 2 (02:10:35):
Ask for it.

Speaker 8 (02:10:36):
But real quick, I really feel really sorry for anybody
on our station. We're all compensated, I mean different levels.

Speaker 2 (02:10:44):
Yeah, and now Sean Salisbury clearly way above everybody else,
and that feels a little unfair. But that's a different
issue for a different time drive. Matt, he's tone center
and it's a tone let's go, baby.

Speaker 8 (02:10:56):
But we do feel sorry for our hardworking producers, and
we're gonna eventually lose Connor.

Speaker 2 (02:11:01):
At some point, you stop saying that we're keeping Connor forever.

Speaker 8 (02:11:06):
I hope we do, because he has put up with
more of our crap in the last don't put that
into existence.

Speaker 2 (02:11:10):
Connor, how have been with us a year? Has it
been a year?

Speaker 14 (02:11:12):
So far?

Speaker 2 (02:11:12):
It's been over a year. Yeah, it was a year
in October. October? So, oh my god, we owe you
a gift of some sort. Yeah. Well, we're waiting for
that digital dumb number to come in. Still waiting on that.

Speaker 13 (02:11:25):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (02:11:26):
But point being is this, you didn't get to see
your hero sarde Uh neo neo, Okay, see low low.

Speaker 8 (02:11:36):
And then the worst thing is, let me tell you, Connor,
we worked, We worked the middays. We don't get the
breakfast in a normal time. We don't get the lunch
in a normal time. In fact, we probably skipped them in.
Why can't you eat breakfast in normally? I guess you could,
but you commute for like four hours. Uh, there was
barbecue in the office today. Nobody told you that, and

(02:11:59):
knowing you not get to meet your R and B hero,
but you get no food on top of it.

Speaker 2 (02:12:03):
Oh, is it just booties? I'm sorry, moodies. I don't
know what it was, but it was food. You think
you think Connor worried about whether it's from moodies or not.
That's fine. I don't think he's going crazy. I must
have I must have nepis nepash. They have the one country.

Speaker 9 (02:12:19):
No.

Speaker 8 (02:12:21):
So sorry to Connor for producing this show, putting the
show in front of his belly, and I appreciate.

Speaker 2 (02:12:26):
That very much. I'm gonna go I'm meaning my sandwich.
Now we're gonna bring We're gonna bring up some lunch
on Friday. Well, damn, Matthews, we're gonna be in studio
on Friday.

Speaker 1 (02:12:34):
So we are.

Speaker 2 (02:12:35):
Yeah, you are? Yeah? Why not? I'm shocked. I mean,
you'll be there when you're there. But I've been, I've
been with you. I'm there every day. Baby, We've been
with you guys shows. I'm there hip to hip for
the last four three days. Don't you want to day
off from me? Would be the worst thing, all right?
That's what Saturday and Sunday for. That's too bad? All right?

Speaker 8 (02:12:54):
So let's go uh all right, So here's the bit so,
I mean, the poor question again is as long as
deemed reasonable the tax money be used for the Texans.

Speaker 2 (02:13:02):
Bill News Stadium No is sixty nine percent win and
win at Super Bowl. It's all in fifteen percent, sixteen percent,
says love them twenty four to seven. Jonathan Alexander, who
covers the Texans, says that the NFL it's now getting
new numbers on their salary cap. That's going to help

(02:13:26):
the players. Make sure you get this right here, updates here.

Speaker 8 (02:13:31):
So two years ago, uh, last year was two hundred
and fifty five million dollars you can spend on salaries.

Speaker 2 (02:13:40):
I think you got to spend ninety percent of that. Okay,
it's going anywhere for a range between two seventy seven
point five and two eighty one point five.

Speaker 8 (02:13:49):
Now that's just not a number that's blindly brought up.
It's a number that's brought up based off of revenues
the NFL has, So every team's salary cap is going
between somewhere between two hundred and seven seven and a
half million dollars in two or eighty one and a
half million dollars. That's twenty two million dollars more minimum
than last year. Dan Graziano actually put this out from ESPN.

(02:14:11):
The salary cap in the NFL ross has gone up
fifty three million dollars in the last two years. And
that's and that's largely television driven because of the fact
that that knew that two game package that Netflix put
out for one hundred and fifty million dollars. Yes, if
I was the NFL and I was anybody looking for

(02:14:34):
a new stadium, I wouldn't tell anybody any numbers because
you put that out and if the NFL players are
getting a twenty two million dollar bump and from one year,
guess what the owners are getting significantly.

Speaker 2 (02:14:46):
More than that? Yeah. Uh, basically, because isn't it a
percent of the revenue that the PA negotiates for the
salary cap? I think it's I think it's under fifty
to fifty for the for the NFL players, but I
think it's closed.

Speaker 8 (02:15:00):
It's very it's like could be forty nine point out
or something like that. It's it's something very as minor,
but it's and maybe ross were new stage here where
it's just hard for anybody forty.

Speaker 2 (02:15:15):
So that's still pretty good. It's hard to ask for
public money when the NF you said two eighty, sorry,
go ahead. It's up fifty two million from two years ago,
so about two eighty. It's two seventy seven point five
to two eighty one point five in a range. Let's
call it two eighty among friends, okay, and that is
times thirty two teams, Yes, that's eight point nine. Basically

(02:15:36):
call it nine billion dollars. So forty eight percent of
their revenues is nine billion dollars. That's means they're making
a bath nineteen and a half nineteen million dollars, eighteen
and a half nineteen billion dollars. So the revenues are
now going to be split.

Speaker 8 (02:15:51):
Fifty two percent of that revenue of nineteen million dollars
is now being split up between the thirty two teams.
Now they have to obviously have to operate from that.

Speaker 2 (02:15:58):
Yes, wow, so we can basically call it three hundred
million a team. Then there's operating in operating gets to
operate off that. Yes, what is this? I mean, I
I sid this. I don't know.

Speaker 8 (02:16:13):
I don't know what it takes to operate a team,
but I guaranteem team doesn't take you three hundred million dollar.
I mean no, Cal and Hannah and really Hannah, I
mean she has struck it rich if you know what
I'm saying.

Speaker 2 (02:16:28):
Yeah, this says Google says average operating income for an
NFL team one hundred and forty two million. So it
takes to operate it. So no, no, so income income
so the so basically you subtract expenses and salaries from
revenue which we have. It's one hundred and forty two

(02:16:50):
million is which each team is making every year in
profits that strictly goes into the owner's piggybags. Correct, one
hundred and forty two million dollars a year. Pay for
your own state, can pay for your own stock. I
know your image has changed dramatically, probably because of Hannah
more than Cal.

Speaker 8 (02:17:12):
You don't get this team with the super Bowl. You
don't ask for a penny, it ain't gonna fly. It
ain't gonna fly, especially when you just told me earlier
there is still a significant amount of money owed.

Speaker 2 (02:17:26):
On the energy and you didn't implode the dome.

Speaker 15 (02:17:33):
We are in.

Speaker 8 (02:17:34):
We are in stadium hell right now. Meanwhile, the Rockets
and Astros have to be pissed. They pay way more
into their facilities than the Texans do. As this the
story and the chronicles said today, the government, meaning Harris County,
actually pays the Texans to play in their stadium. That's

(02:17:55):
what That's what the story really it says, essentially, the
government pays the Texans to play energy.

Speaker 2 (02:18:06):
This is all above my head. This is all, it
is all, and it is all for. I just don't
get it.

Speaker 8 (02:18:10):
Yeah, it's gonna be very confusing, and I'm not trying
to be scared people. I'm just telling you that we
have doaling, we gun start dealing with some realities, and
this is gonna happen eventually. In a minute to Dyikan,
It's gonna eventually happen in the Toyota Center. I'm just
telling you in twenty twenty five, maybe not maybe definitely
more so than it was say, thirty or years ago.

(02:18:30):
When people were afraid. People I don't think are afraid
of losing franchise anymore, especially when you're in top ten markets.
The NFL needs Houston, Texas. There are six plus million
people here. They're not allowing the city of Houston to
lose a football team.

Speaker 2 (02:18:47):
Yeah, I'm curious what the latest is that happened in
with the Chiefs. I think it was another measure. One
measure didn't pass right, and then they did when they
dialed back to public correct. They were thinking about building
getting a stadium downtown. It's been I think that the
Royals also been looking for that as well. There was
also a thought to renovating both Kaufman Stadium and Arrowhead
and putting a roof over it that moves from one

(02:19:09):
side to the other. They said no to that.

Speaker 8 (02:19:10):
That had been really kind of cool to watch, right,
one roof covers two stadiums, or at least covers once.

Speaker 2 (02:19:15):
They it sounds insane. It sounds insane. Yeah, But any
of you that are ogs that listen to the to
Me way back in the day in the nineties, Rossy,
you will see these stories start to pop pop up
a lot more often because what you're gonna then see
is you're gonna see the Texans are going to want
to ultimately make a decision.

Speaker 8 (02:19:34):
We don't want to renovate energy, we want our own facility.
The Rodeo is gonna get involved, and the Astros and
a Rockets are gonna say, wait a minute, if you're
getting this deal, why can't we get that? I mean,
if this is a number one thing is when you
build these stadiums, they were supposed to have forty fifty
year shelf lives. We're talking about Atlanta getting out of

(02:19:54):
the Georgia Dome very young. We're talking about the Braves
leaving Turner Field very young to go to their own
little spectacle up in the northern Atlanta area.

Speaker 2 (02:20:06):
These stadiums lives are twenty five thirty years. Meanwhile, Coyle
Field's like, hold my beer, dear Okay, Royal, hold my beer,
Michigan Stadium home. Why do college stadiums there's public money there.
I don't know. I don't know how it goes.

Speaker 8 (02:20:18):
Why do college stadiums live seventy five eighty years and
go with the times? Meanwhile, the NFL stadiums don't do that.

Speaker 2 (02:20:25):
I don't know. I don't know what the revenue situation
is there with what the colleges are making. First of all,
you're getting a hundred thousand in the building for those
home games. Yeah, that's definitely more money from just that.
Why don't you.

Speaker 8 (02:20:39):
Think the high end Texas fan wants to be closer
to the field and have more luxury boxes and all that.
I mean, why would Why would an NFL? Why would
a Texas fan not with the same bells and whistles
at a high end Texan family?

Speaker 2 (02:20:50):
Why is it more traditional? It's more I mean because
the fabric of college football is the traditions in the
even though of course we know it's not an amateur
it's all for business. But you sell to yourself. You
tell yourself that Kyle Field, the DKR and Memorial Stadium
in Norman, like, these are hallowed grounds that have been

(02:21:10):
played on for one hundred years and we can't move
off of Most of them are on campus and it's
for the students. Ohio Staium? How old is Ohio Staium?
Ohio State plays?

Speaker 8 (02:21:21):
I mean these stadiums are I mean Neiland Citium or
Tennessee plays.

Speaker 2 (02:21:25):
Yeah, they're constantly working on that bad boy. But the
NFL shelf life twenty five thirty years. I mean the
Rams were in Saint Louis, play that they are whatever.
The dome was called there, Edward Jones, it wasn't. It
wasn't a fossil. Is any of the World Cup games
being paid played in college stadiums coming up? I don't know.

(02:21:51):
I think I just find it.

Speaker 8 (02:21:52):
I've been very intriguing the college colleges that are high end,
super mega stadiums.

Speaker 2 (02:21:59):
Your what do they call? Where's it? Where's the Alabama place? Jordan?

Speaker 8 (02:22:03):
Not Jordan here, that's Auburn, Bryce, Brian Denny, Brian Denny.
They constantly are putting lipstick on that bad boy. No
one's clamoring for Alabama in a new stadium.

Speaker 2 (02:22:15):
I don't know. It's just different because it's college and
than most of these are on campus, but those are
multi big dollar facilities too. Ohio Stadium built in nineteen
twenty one, been around one hundred plus years. Meanwhile, we
got to get a new facility.

Speaker 8 (02:22:35):
For the Texans after twenty two years and no AFC
championship appearance.

Speaker 2 (02:22:40):
We need a new apparent, We need a new place,
and you're paying for it. Houston. Let's go.

Speaker 8 (02:22:43):
I'm just telling you the ROSSI knowing that our city,
like I do, and like most sports fans, they wasn't
one or two Super Bowls.

Speaker 2 (02:22:49):
It's be a moo conversation. How about this Kyle Field
broke ground in nineteen twenty seven. Original construction costs six
hundred and fifty bucks. That's it. They went bare bones.
They've went basic economy in their stadium. Now that is
twenty three even for now, that's twenty three twenty twenty
three dollars justed for inflation. Wow, all right, six hundred

(02:23:11):
and fifty bucks is twenty three thousand. Now, that's pretty insane.
It is crazy. It's crazy, all right.

Speaker 8 (02:23:17):
Short time out one to eighteen is a one sixteen
is the time. It is a Matt Thomas show with Ross.
We take this program.

Speaker 2 (02:23:22):
Until two o'clock and then we'll header over.

Speaker 8 (02:23:26):
To the A Team Up and the bottom of the
hour you'll hear from manager Joe A spot it right
now a word once again for two Creeks Crossing Resort.

if not in the next couple weeks, certainly and during springtime,
during spring break, get them out in the country.

Speaker 2 (02:23:41):

Speaker 8 (02:23:43):
Beauty inness it is the Lake Livingston area, and you
can do that at Two Creeks Crossing Resort. They've got
so many activities for all ages, from a hot tub
to a beautiful gas grill area. They've got movies on
the weekends. They've got a ice house that operates. And
then when you get in one of these waterfront cabins,
and one of them is so nice. It's got a
whirlpool hot tub in it, high.

Speaker 2 (02:24:04):
Speed internet, televisions, stoves, plenty of popular amenities, and it's reasonable.
It's only ninety minutes from downtown Houston, so get away
for a short period of time, get away from the
hustle and bustle of the city and try something different
with you and the fan.

Speaker 8 (02:24:18):
It's Two Creeks Crossing Resort where if you get something
before now, at the end of the month, you get
forty percent off a cabin rental and if you have
an RV it's twenty percent off at one of their sites.
All at Two Two Creekscrossingresort dot com.

Speaker 13 (02:24:31):
Matt Thomas and Rossbyurreal, two guys extremely passionate about Houston sports.

Speaker 1 (02:24:38):
You can tell them to go get a room.

Speaker 2 (02:24:39):
Man, we've shared a hotel room, but they already have,
and then I've shared a band.

Speaker 1 (02:24:45):
Thanks for the visual pillow in between.

Speaker 13 (02:24:48):
There's no pillow between you and more lunchtime Houston Sports
Talk on Sports Talk seven ninety Brost.

Speaker 8 (02:24:55):
And I are going to the clubs tonight in Palm Beach.
That's what the kids call this here and I call
westb saying that they call.

Speaker 2 (02:25:00):
Him the bb uh huh and uh. We're gonna see
Relo there and look forward too. Neo Neo. I I
just tweeted at now here comes here? Yeah, could you
keep track of your stuff?

Speaker 17 (02:25:14):
Blown away?

Speaker 8 (02:25:15):
I just tweeted at him, Connor, I'm trying to get
him back to the studio. Let me know if he
gets all right, I'll let you know. Get him on
your tweet. Yeah, I would have talked to him. I
would let Ross handle the interview, because wouldn't me.

Speaker 2 (02:25:28):
I just Bay, I know of Neo. I'm not like
a big Neo fan. Neo had some hits, Matty. This
song is so good, jam shn I tell you.

Speaker 1 (02:25:38):
This isn't bad.

Speaker 2 (02:25:38):
Actually I don't. I listened to this. Listen another way
back to the hotel. You want to listen to this. Okay,
we're gonna stop by a rock orail on the way back. Uh,
can we can we get you anything? Connor bring me back? Okay,
roc Oral's fine for Bob. I'm not gonna go to
Bandy's for a bumble mack. Do what you want. No,
my treat. Now, whatever you're treating, We'll go to Rachel's.

(02:26:00):
That's right here for those of you that like that
kind of thing. Uh.

Speaker 8 (02:26:04):
Beachel's is a strip club in West in the Palm
in the beach. Yes, it's a tourist trap. Oh once
you get in, you don't want to leave. You get
trapped it.

Speaker 2 (02:26:15):
There wasn't not a local spot. You want to go
to the local strip club? I don't know they underneath
their arms.

Speaker 8 (02:26:20):
By the way, for those of you that know the
show at all, and I'm just gonna leave this without
any commentary, our girl Taylor is pregnant, and apparently she's
seven months pregnant.

Speaker 2 (02:26:32):
Oh she's been hiding it fairly well because I didn't know,
and I know you're still dropping likes and views, and
so those of you asking for her only fans account,
you're a creep. Some people are into that kind of thing.
So we were talking about if.

Speaker 8 (02:26:56):
The neo came in the studio, I wouldn't know what
to ask him, because I would I would have no
idea what he thinks. I once did a file when
the when the u UH when the Final Four was
at the in Houston. This is I think the first
time this company asked me to host a two hour
radio show on Sports Talk SEVENINTI, and all I was
doing was interviewing coach after coach after coach after coach. Yes,

(02:27:19):
I was given no prep of who was going to be,
but they were bringing me these coaches and I had
no idea who they were.

Speaker 2 (02:27:28):
I forgot about that.

Speaker 8 (02:27:29):
Thank god, the Internet was working decently at this restaurant
we were at. But there was one interview with a
coach that I did not know who it was. He
didn't have a logo on his shirt. You couldn't ask him.
I don't think I brought up his name. I don't
think I brought up his I definitely didn't bring up

(02:27:50):
his school. And I talked about generic questions for about
five or six minutes, and I'm wondering, even to this day,
if that if that coach realized that.

Speaker 2 (02:28:01):
I had no idea who the hell he was.

Speaker 8 (02:28:03):
I mean, it wasn't even wasn't even a top forty program,
and it was like it had to be something like
like a Northern Iowa or a Montana.

Speaker 2 (02:28:13):
Stay or something like that. Turns out it was John Caliperry.

Speaker 8 (02:28:16):
There was nothing that hurts me more than having to
do something like that that not knowing anything about the
person coming in.

Speaker 2 (02:28:24):
Man, that is gold. I forgot about that. It wasn't
gold at the time. It's gold now. I think I
got paid two hundred bucks for that two hours. And
he was like, I will never do this again. It
happened to sign me up. Let's go, Hey, coach, you
need to call everyone coach. That's a good thing.

Speaker 8 (02:28:40):
Well, you know, it was easy because I can say, coach,
what do you think about the current dynamic of college basketball?

Speaker 2 (02:28:45):
What do you think?

Speaker 14 (02:28:46):
You know?

Speaker 2 (02:28:46):
What's what?

Speaker 9 (02:28:47):
What?

Speaker 8 (02:28:47):
What helps a team get to a deep tournament run?
And I was thinking, God, please tell me he went
to the tournament. Please ivo with the tournament. I was terrified.
He was like the CBI, Well, Matt, we've never been
to a tournament before. But I understand what I some
my assistant coach has been to a tournament before.

Speaker 2 (02:29:06):
It's terrible. It's absolutely terrible.

Speaker 8 (02:29:08):
All right, Uh, nope, we don't have any believe it
or not today because we're on location tomorrow on the
show You're gonna hear we think.

Speaker 2 (02:29:15):

Speaker 8 (02:29:18):
We're gonna have Spencer Arroghatty and you never know what
else is gonna pop up, all right, and we have
oh you know, we also we have another show tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (02:29:24):
Eddie Nuoney has athletic director at the University Houston. What
you say, well, why is that?

Speaker 11 (02:29:28):
Why is that?

Speaker 2 (02:29:28):
Well, because our.

Speaker 8 (02:29:29):

Speaker 2 (02:29:43):
Oh that is a big one. That's a big game.
Huge If I'm nervous about my one loss prediction, Yeah,
I can't believe Texas Tech beat US overtime loss and
we returned the trip to Olympic next week. I think, Yeah,
all overtime losses except the Auburn correct h No, there
has been a lot bunch of overtime games so far

(02:30:03):
this year. We're just rolling well straight big twelve road wins.
Cougar's got the shooting this year, and they do sometime.
Tell me when you hit a casino, Man, I'm getting
that future being in New Orleans in a few weeks.
Put down some bets. How long do they give us
a chance? Cancer cashles Bad Boys twenty at ten to one,
two hundred. Let's go, let's go.

Speaker 11 (02:30:24):
I'm in for that.

Speaker 8 (02:30:25):
I'll contribute as well. Okay, all right, Joe Spott, it

Speaker 13 (02:31:29):
Back to Matt Thomas and Ross via Real Fine Fine
Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 8 (02:31:40):
Oh last thing for Connor and I won't bring this
up anymore today. I just checked our receptionist ig account Sophia.

Speaker 2 (02:31:48):
We love her. She has a photo with her and
Neo together. What I know, I'm so sorry. Did everybody
else in the office get one? Excepted? I think there's
literally everybody else got a picture with him except he
was read the little glass window of the studio. He
was really right there. Did Dan get one? Did you
ask Dan yet?

Speaker 9 (02:32:05):
No?

Speaker 2 (02:32:06):
Dan said he liked one of his albums. I think
got one right? Did WEX get one? WEX? Are you
in there? Can you hear us? Oh? I can hear you?
Did you get one? Did you get a photo with Neil? No?
Photo with Neo? Neo way?

Speaker 15 (02:32:26):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (02:32:28):
Weekdays two to six? Wow?

Speaker 8 (02:32:32):
Kind I felt awful. Tomorrow Dan isn't coming to help you.
So in the next celebrity that comes in, I don't
know wh should get a picture with. The worst thing
is the worst thing Connor is She took a picture
of him in twenty fourteen when he came by the station,
so she put both photos up.

Speaker 2 (02:32:46):
Why is that the worst? Once you let Connor live,
he's already upset. Now you're trying to get him hired off,
and now you're pissing him off. You don't want to
make him feel better. Here for the manager of the astro.
You know what we're getting a word from Connor, he says,
shot Joe bum ass. He's like, I try. I just
tweeted directly to neok, We're proud of you.

Speaker 11 (02:33:03):
I did that.

Speaker 2 (02:33:04):
He's got six million tweet at him. I did, you
didn't you didn't do squad? Yeah, but that's the guess
what it's gonna get the same result. No, it's not.
I try hard, all right.

Speaker 8 (02:33:13):
We talked to uh our man, uh Joe spot was
drawn a blank here the manager was Joe's spot earlier
today and we had to get the obligatory uh L
two B questions by the way, talking out about him
being able to catch a fly ball but ultimately trying
to use that arm of his to run throw runners

(02:33:34):
out as a try and advance from third to home.

Speaker 14 (02:33:36):
I'm not concerned about it. I think he will. He
will figure that out and he'll he'll get it. So
us being as a middle infielders, you know exactly where
you need to line up, you know exactly what the
runner behind you is doing. Now he's to want executing
that first throw. So that's that's the transcision that he
needs to make, and I'm sure that he'll he'll do that.

Speaker 11 (02:33:58):
So we're doing this by faces right.

Speaker 14 (02:34:00):
I think phase one was you know at Diking Park,
we we've worked like for almost.

Speaker 11 (02:34:05):
Three weeks fly balls, we deal our work. We did
some video.

Speaker 14 (02:34:09):
We work on his techniques, you know, we we we
talked about the challenging. Are the challenging Our wall is
now Phase two is spring training? Now is the sun
the elements right? The sun the win? You know, now
we'll you know, it's the base runners, it's the strategy.
It's runners trying to go first to third, trying to
challenge him. So we're going through all that for the
next two weeks.

Speaker 2 (02:34:29):
And but I'm sure that.

Speaker 11 (02:34:31):
He'll he'll figure it out. We're going to give it
everything we got.

Speaker 14 (02:34:33):
You know, he's his mindset, it's where it needs to
be and and I'm sure that we If this works,
it just makes our team that much better.

Speaker 8 (02:34:40):
He's such a smart player. He's got baseball DNA and
his in his in his blood.

Speaker 15 (02:34:44):
Uh.

Speaker 8 (02:34:45):
I think this is not just for him, it's for
any but you put out in left field. Baltimore is
gonna present some challenges. Detroit will post some challenge, Cleveland
a little bit. But if you knock down, if you're
a if you're a minute Maine Park, you'll know the nuance,
the cracks and how the ball lands hiking park excuse me,
hit me next time you got them there.

Speaker 11 (02:35:02):
We go.

Speaker 2 (02:35:03):
Yeah, that's what it is, right, that's not just for
Hosal to.

Speaker 14 (02:35:06):
Be anybody is for anybody that you know, the challenges
that wall is a challenge for anyone. Family park is
challenging for anyone. You could have ten years experience to
five years experience. There's things that he's going to have
to learn. But for us, we believe that he can
do it. There's confidence that he can do it. He's
an athlete. He shows to speed, the awareness to do
to do the things that we expect him to do.
And you know, we got five weeks here to continue

(02:35:27):
to work on this, and you know, we're not going
to completely abandon second base, but I think by him
playing some let field really opens the door for us.

Speaker 11 (02:35:36):
You do all the things on the baseball field.

Speaker 2 (02:35:38):
Yeah, speaking of learning as you go, take us through
how you're doing, man, your journey the last year obviously
the start wasn't the way that you wanted to go.
You make the playoffs, also the early exit and now
the team retooled this year. How have you been going
through this? And now in your in your second year
as the head man? You know what?

Speaker 14 (02:35:57):
So you know I had some time to you know,
sit down and and and and kind of take all
in what twenty twenty four meant for me personally and
for our team. And you know, during that time of reflection,
you you start writing down things that we could have
done better and things that I could have done better.
And you know, I when I met with our club yesterday,

(02:36:17):
I think we we I told them that we know
we need to be proud of twenty twenty four. You know,
we need not finish the race the way we wanted to,
but we ran a strong race. We did what we
wanted to do, which was win the West. You know,
I also told our club that, you know, our our
team was tested like never before. You know, our culture
got tested, our you know, our commitment to winning got

(02:36:38):
tested from the very beginning, and we prevail.

Speaker 2 (02:36:41):
I think it was.

Speaker 14 (02:36:42):
It was a good season for us, despite you know,
early exit of the playoff. But I think we did
some things well. And as a manager, I'm proud of
the way we we battle back about the way you know,
I stay calm and and and have confidence on my
on my club to to get us to where we
wanted to get to, and I expect it to be,
you know, a better, better twenty twenty five, we ready

(02:37:03):
for the challenge, and I think twenty twenty four was
the learning experience for all of us.

Speaker 8 (02:37:07):
If I went back and we went back and looked
at the games and maybe talked to you right after
the deficit was ten games, tell me at that point
what you were thinking, and does Dana come to you
and say, do we want to start selling?

Speaker 2 (02:37:20):
Because look, he maintained a confidence you did as well.
But reality sits in that when when that deficit gets
to ten, that was that's as ugly of numbers. Again.

Speaker 14 (02:37:28):
Yeah, Matt, you know what one thing about you know
you asked about Dana. He never used the word sale.

Speaker 11 (02:37:34):
Never did.

Speaker 2 (02:37:34):
That's a huge thing.

Speaker 14 (02:37:35):
It's huge, and it just goes to we really believe
on our team. And we always felt like we still
had ninety one hundred games to fight back, right we
we we we felt like once of our guys came
back and you know, our offense was going to click
in and we know that we had to push in

(02:37:57):
there and and and we did, but you know, you know,
they're never there's the word sold never came in and
play and and I'm glad, I'm glad that we didn't
and I'm glad that we add a Kikuchi who was
a big boost to our to our team doing that stretch.

Speaker 2 (02:38:11):
How excited are you to write three Christian Walker in
the lineup almost every day? Told happened last year at
first base?

Speaker 11 (02:38:20):
You know what, the h is not an option there?

Speaker 14 (02:38:23):
You know we he's the best defender in the game
over there at first He will probably need a day
off here and there, not many, but uh, but I
think that what Christian brings to our our club is
this uh level of you know, you know, leadership, his
ability to hit the ball to the ballpark quality a bat,

(02:38:45):
something that as a club we kind of struggled last
year a little bit. Our our offense kind of up
and down and and and how we chase some pitches.
So him and peretis kind of bring that dynamic back
to our offense. But uh, Christian is a pro, and
I'm excited to have him. Let's get to the outfield.
Jake can cover everything you're moving chance to right field.

Speaker 8 (02:39:03):
I don't want to say how long is the leash,
because look, everybody's got a leash of some level to
performance wise, I.

Speaker 2 (02:39:08):
Would say if we took away the left field situation.

Speaker 8 (02:39:11):
What's the thing that probably not alarming, but we're looking
to see productivity wise is what you're not The guys
can do defensively, but it's on the offensive end. What
were some things you told to both those guys because
we kind of joke with Jake a little bit about
his mate was spectacular. Yeah, we need that, Jake Myers
for not to be that Oh yes, high. I never
like it was, but level out a little bit.

Speaker 14 (02:39:32):
Yeah, let's start with Jake, you know, and and I
had this conversation with Jake during the offseason and we
touch on here and a couple of days ago. You know,
it's not you know that that may carry it. You
know that's repeating May and Jujule. No, it's just you know,
when there's when there's a drop down which all players have,
that it can be you know, two hundred points in

(02:39:54):
the ops.

Speaker 11 (02:39:55):
You know there's got to be a walk.

Speaker 14 (02:39:57):
You know, he can do things where he could lay
down a bunt, just quality of back where the contribution
is still there. Because I told him this, I said, listen,
you know when I'm looking at my lineup card and
the game, it's when the game is closed.

Speaker 2 (02:40:09):
We have to lead.

Speaker 14 (02:40:10):
I want to keep you in the game because your
defense matters. You meet her, you know, your defense is
game changing. But when the game is on the line
and you're not swinging the bat that the way you're
capable of, I need to make a move.

Speaker 11 (02:40:21):
I need to try to create some runs.

Speaker 14 (02:40:23):
And and now I'm I'm I'm taking my best defender
out of the game because I'm trying to, you know,
tack the lead and and I don't and I don't,
And I told him I don't. I don't like doing that,
but I told him, if I have to do it,
I will do it again. But I believe that he
made the adjustment. He needs to do the same conversation
with mac uh you know, you know, you know you
mentioned the leash and I told Mac, I said, Mac,

(02:40:45):
last year, I think the leash was long, and maybe
this year the leache might not be that long.

Speaker 11 (02:40:52):
So it's early production.

Speaker 14 (02:40:54):
I want to see you contribute to to you know,
to our offense, and and and putting some good at
bad from the very beginning.

Speaker 11 (02:41:01):
And you know, we brought in some left handed bats
that could give me an opportunity to platoony if I
have to.

Speaker 14 (02:41:07):
But I'm going to you know, I want Mac and
Myers to take over those those jobs and and and
do what they're capable of doing.

Speaker 2 (02:41:13):
What what do you man? It has to be a
hard job because what do you look for when you
win to pull the leash? Because as you know, baseball
is a game where Hall of famers can struggle for
fifty games or more. So what are you looking for
to say, okay, this is time to make a change.
The conversations? Is it how the bats are looking?

Speaker 9 (02:41:30):
Is it?

Speaker 2 (02:41:31):
I mean, what do you do?

Speaker 14 (02:41:32):
You know, it first starts with, you know, with a
conversation in it'spreen training. The players want to know their
roles and how big that leade? Yes, right, you know
you mentioned hall of famers.

Speaker 2 (02:41:41):
We we have, you have.

Speaker 14 (02:41:42):
We have quite a few here that have the chance
to be Hall of famers. So obviously those guys are
in there and and they're gonna they're gonna put their numbers.
But put these young players who are starting to figure out,
you know, in big leagues, and you got to balance
that out with wins and losses. They got to show
you from the verry that from the very first aid
that the quality of bats are there, that they're making adjustments.

Speaker 11 (02:42:01):
That they're not, you know, ignoring kind of the things
that we wanted them to work on. But the BET's
got to be productive.

Speaker 14 (02:42:07):
You got to hit the ball hard, you gotta walk,
you gotta you know, those bets need to mean something
for you to be able to stay in there.

Speaker 8 (02:42:13):
Last question for you, Joel spotted with us here on
the Matt Thomas Show with Ross Skip where is the battle?
Because every likes to put up their twenty six man roster,
uh and it feels pretty much set.

Speaker 2 (02:42:24):
You may have some things in your mind, but where
is the competition for the next month?

Speaker 14 (02:42:27):
Which I say, well, you know, I think there's opportunities
on some bench rolls. I think there is there is
at least one or two spots there that I view
as competition. And I mentioned some of those outfielders left
down the hitters there, there's competition there.

Speaker 11 (02:42:44):
But also middle relief.

Speaker 14 (02:42:46):
I think that's where we are going to spend a
lot of our time where we got some of these
young pitchers who are there, who we like, who can
be that bridge to a braille and and and hater
and on the ninth who can throw that sixth inning,
who can throw that seventh in and who's going to
be the guy who's going to step up and and
hand the ball to a clean eighth inning to a Braill.

Speaker 2 (02:43:07):
That's that's where the big questions are. We tease you
a little bit last year about all the Abrallille appearances.
Oh goodness, lesser Braill you less or less every game
was closed last year? You had to or less Hater
going to the second inning? Boy, dream world?

Speaker 14 (02:43:26):
You want both of you know, you know, I'm going
to start with it with the first one. It's less
getting a Braill up in the seventh to finish the seventh.
Less of that, you know, less of he having to
go in the seven to finish the eighth, the seventh
and then going back in the eighth, and then I
potentially have to get up Hater to pick him up
so he could you know, I need less of that.

(02:43:48):
And that's for me where right now we are really
spending until the time trying to figure that. That also
that also helps that that also helps. But you still gotta,
you know, prepare your self for I. So you well know,
you know what happened last year. You know we all
left spin training feeling really good and sexy about our club.
And then all of a sudden, you got I learned
that really quick. You got to you gotta have a

(02:44:10):
plan b.

Speaker 8 (02:44:12):
Alone when he said, still feeling you felt good and
sexy coming out of spring training.

Speaker 2 (02:44:16):
That's great. First month of the year. He felt like
you were unwanted. Yeah, all the injuries. You don't want
to start fat and five, be good and sexy. Let's
go or dewey or dewey. All right, back to wrap.

Speaker 8 (02:44:27):
Things up here from West Palm Beach, where windstorm is
now made out its way here.

Speaker 2 (02:44:31):
Get a little this wind's picking up a little bit.
It's nice out though, very very nice. I'll tell you

Houston. Sports Talk continues with The Matt Thomas Show.

Speaker 8 (02:45:47):
Two on Sports Talk seven ninety. It is the Matt
Thomas Show with Ross's final segment for us. Here today
from West Palm Beach, and we've really I would say
dodge whether it rained this morning, but nothing yesterday.

Speaker 2 (02:45:59):
It's from the Death of the It's a Bonafie hot
mid eighties day. It's nice. You want to like it.
Joan just sent me a text she's like or a
message on Twitter. It says it back in the age.
It's a little frosty, thirty two degrees let's see what
the turn temperature is in my house. Uh thirty two?
What is going? It can't be thirty two degrees in

(02:46:21):
February in Houston, Texas. It's ridiculous. Why not February? No,
it's winter. We kept we live in Texas for warm winter?
Is this above freezing? Quit? You're wining? No, put on
a coat. Out, guys are a bunch of Winersay something.
You little frosty air going? You know why you've been
sick so much to damn frosty air. Now that's not true.
You come to Florida hangout. No, no, your pores will

(02:46:42):
be good. Never eighty five degrees when I first got sick.
Probably okay, all right, yeah, it's gonna be one hundred
and twenty. Can't wait. It feels like like nine months.
Let's go give me a little frost in the air.
Shut jobomass up? Oh I'm sorry. Has that's been over? Yeah?

Speaker 8 (02:46:56):
Well I feel like it's always available to us. All right,
we're back here tomorrow. We'll hopefully get it. Catch up
with the outfielders, at least two of them. Uh Jose
just doesn't.

Speaker 2 (02:47:05):
Speak very much.

Speaker 8 (02:47:06):
Uh we we we We've effort to try to get
Jose on the show. He's it's a little exhausting.

Speaker 2 (02:47:11):
He's a good time.

Speaker 8 (02:47:12):
It's fine, and there's gonna be every team that's gonna
have one or two that are gonna be hard to reach,
and so Jose is our Verlander never made an appearance
spring training for a regular seas.

Speaker 2 (02:47:22):
Yeah, I feel like you got a better shot getting
them now. He's a giant than before was in an astro.
He's gonna ask what our audience is in San Francisco.
We're gonna say it's minimal. So I think the answer
is no. He might have a couple of streamers out
there by Ben Verlander. He's just pouting like we Yeatlex
Brim the dry tiger way. He follow him. No, he
shows him my four you tab. Oh, he shows him

(02:47:42):
to your four you tab because you always look at
his tweets. It's a gravy training off. His brother didn't
show him in my four you tab. You can mute him.

Speaker 8 (02:47:49):
I'll just see what he's doing. It's better for material
for shot on him. Yeah, today's a good day for
Adix to be treated. But ready, we need to clear one.

Speaker 2 (02:48:00):
No sh up. We had a caller about this show
last hour, and we've come to find out since being
down here this was again. I want to make sure
we continue to push this agenda along to you folks.
It's not an agenda's it's the truth.

Speaker 8 (02:48:13):
Joseall Tube was going to start playing the outfield, regardless
of whether or not Alex Perman was going to sign.

Speaker 9 (02:48:17):
Here.

Speaker 2 (02:48:19):
The numbers, the.

Speaker 8 (02:48:20):
Metrics for as and I'm not saying that the Astros
are backed off of the metrics, but they're not all
in like they were.

Speaker 2 (02:48:28):
Clearly when Jeff Luna was running things. It has been
dialed back a little bit, but every team is using metrics.
The metrics for joseeal Tube was you put them at
second base, it's going to cost you games. You're gonna
have a better chance of winning.

Speaker 8 (02:48:44):
If joseale two Bay's in your lineup every single day
and he's not dhing playing left field.

Speaker 2 (02:48:48):
Then it would be patrolling second base. And if that's
what the decision are going with.

Speaker 8 (02:48:52):
And oh, by the way, it takes a real man
to be able to say, you know what, I can't
do what I used to do. I'm in a better
spot playing in left field. He's trying it out. I
applaud him for it. It might be a disaster ross,
he may wind up having to go back to second base,
but damn it, he's doing it just like Craig Bejo
did And that's why we've been lucky. It's a Houston
Astro fan to have two of the all time greats

(02:49:13):
on this roster for the history they've been on it,
because they have been.

Speaker 2 (02:49:16):
Willing to adapt and change exactly. This is not something
that's necessarily done. It's not done on a whim. It's
not somebody just looking and going to like, you know what,
let's move out to Bay to Lyft. The Astros are
a very smart organization. Yeah, they're a very forward thinking
organization and they have been for years, and this is

(02:49:36):
not something that they've done a billion times before. So
that's why I'm saying you need to kind of trust
the Astros on this, that this is the right move
for them going forward, and ultimately.

Speaker 8 (02:49:47):
It will add to the outfield ops because right now,
is it curly stood, if you put Dubon out there
in leftfield every single day, it would be a little tough.

Speaker 2 (02:49:55):
Now, du Bond's gonna get plenty of play time, you'd
rather have him at second than there's a primate and
he's gonna help you out to f it's something at
second base without two Yeah, swapping al two by from
from second to left and dumon, that makes your defense better.
Coming up next, will should the seven ninety push Adam
Clinton to overnights? Still have out member of the team.

(02:50:15):
We're gonna keep him in the same position. Are you sure?
The metrics say he's probably better off one eight to
four A metrics are great. We'll find out next.

Speaker 8 (02:50:23):
It's Clinton, it's Wexler, it's see talk to tomorrow at ten.
