Speaker 1 (00:02):
Lunchtimers. This is the Matt Thomas Show.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Heyo too in h Town. Good morning everyone, and welcome
to a Monday edisue of the Matt Tommy Show with
Ross here on Sports Talk seven ninety. We are in
studio for a full four hours today. We were always
gonna be on for a full four hours. The Astros
game today has been rained out or as they say,

(00:28):
has been banged, and that would have been a take
delay broadcast. So you're gonna have to figure out a
way to listen to. What do we carry at night?
Do we carry the Doug Guy Leap Show by night?

Speaker 3 (00:39):
Or is that?

Speaker 2 (00:40):
Is it Rob Poka? Is it Chris Bruce Ward and
Rob Pawker? Is it Chris at Rob Paka? And then
it's a little bit of that other guy. Uh two
diet Cokes and a Fresco or something like whatever he
calls himself. Yeah, so you're feeling better. Good to have
you back, row Am. I think we need to put
you in a hospital. Take a week off every baby.

(01:01):
This is this is just getting terrible from bad to worst.
Poor kid, he's got bronchitis, he's got walking pneumonia, he's
got schlem It's just just a hot mess right now,
maig're not you look like hell, I'm feeling better. Game
a little bit of a way too. Well, that's that's
gonna happen. I did got on the scale today. I
was really worried about the amount of food we ate
when we were in Florida. I don't care. I know

(01:24):
you don't care, but I want to keep myself in
a range. So, uh yeah, So the Astros did not play,
will not be playing today. I was rude to you
because you're a mess with me about being sick. I'm sorry,
go ahead tell us. So how's how's the scale looking?
It's fine? Okay, it's fine. We're all proud of you. Okay.
Uh so doing wonderful? Yes, it is?

Speaker 4 (01:41):
It is?

Speaker 2 (01:43):
It is? Uh that? And sleeping all day yesterday, I'll
tell you what.

Speaker 5 (01:47):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
Look, I love the NBA lifestyle, but it does have
a few drawbacks occasionally. We did not get to Salt
Lake City until my hotel room at three thirty mountain
time Saturday more, which was four thirty here. Then played
and got beaten by something called Keyante George. He was

(02:08):
an animal over the freaking points last night or Saturday night, Yes,
and then we came right back home because we don't
I don't know this. It's come as a surprise you,
but the NBA players don't want to spend any extra
time in Utah. Lesson. They absolutely happened. They did not.
There was no part there's no parting Sunday in Salt
Lake City or late night for that matter. And then

(02:29):
I got to Houston Sunday morning at four am and
had been trying to catch up on sleep after that,
so yesterday was like a double nap day. Tried to
watch some basketball, tried to watch the Astro spring training game.
I couldn't recognize one single player when they when those
players there was a road game. The Astros played a
road game yesterday in Saint Louis, which was Jupiter, which

(02:49):
is not far from the team facility, but veteran players
usually play the home games unless there's a specific reason
why player or pitcher has to throw. I put the
game on, like in the fourth inning, there was not
a single player I recognized at all, So I fell
asleep to that. So I half of them don't even
have their names on the jersey. Well, yeah, when you're

(03:10):
like when you have a uniform number, above say eighty.
I'm not penciling you on the twenty six man roster
unless you're one of those players that likes to have
one of those crazy numbers. I think Cam Smith's the
number who was in the nineties. I can't remember. Yeah, Well,
I mean, I don't think he'll be with the team
to start the year, but but he's got a really
good shot of being a guy that contributes, yeah, at

(03:31):
some point this year, which makes me again, I did
a little digging about you did not much on what
on why the Cubs would give up their first round
pick Cam Smith right out of the jump for Kyle Tucker,
who's going going to be there probably one year. Yes,

(03:54):
And the digging I did find out was the Cubs
are going all in. Yeah, that makes the logical sense.
They are saying trade a prospect for an impact player
currently for one year. Would say you're going on all
and is gonna win? And if it doesn't happen that
you probably would expect the Chicago Cubs to completely blow
things up. Now, Craig Council is locked in low because

(04:15):
he's one of the highest paid managers in baseball, which
is crazy. But the general managers not locked in and
general managers. When you make a deal for Kyle Tucker
and you give up your number one prospect, who may
poop By the way, Mary weby the very future third
basement for the Astros or in Horner outfield spot, that's
a hillacious rescue take. Yes, the Astros have taken some
risk in the last couple of years, but have they

(04:36):
been ultimately burned by anything lately? I don't know. We'll
see on the Kokuchie trade, the Kakucie right now. If
all of a sudden Joey Lo Bafido becomes a thirty
one to twenty guy for the Blue Jays, that a
look terrible. Two of the prospects that they gave up
in the Verlander Dealer top hundred guys and Warfford and
who is the other one? I know we've we've melted.

(04:57):
Not Melton. Elton is the guy they have here. He's here.
We gotta we gotta wait or I don't remember. We'll
figure it out, but we're gonna start watching some of
those guys. But at this point, as we speak here
in the Gilbert Gilbert Bilcarrett, same thing. But those guys
have not meant any impact yet. Jake Bloss was probably considered.
Maybe they're not surefire best player in that trade, but

(05:22):
we got to see what he does pitching for the
Blue Jays every fifth day if he makes the roster
coming out of spring training. So you know, every general
manager worries about these things. Every general man like, for instance,
the Astros gave up high end prospects to go get
Justin Verlander in twenty seventeen, the Astros give up prospects
to give up to get Zach Grienky and the I

(05:45):
mean Jeff Leno have had did a masterful job of
winning what just about every trade. The only one that
did didn't work out was the deal with Milwaukee right
for uh Carlos Gomez and for Mike Fires, although Fires
helped out a little bit, I mean, honestly you did
and they became a rat. Well yeah, Fire, that trade

(06:05):
was a huge loss that blew up your entire team
in organization. And yeaho trade they gave up ta Oscar Hernandez.
But yeah, so if you're not willing to lose a
deal now and then, then you probably shouldn't be a
general manager.

Speaker 5 (06:22):
Mm hmm.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
So we're kind of in a wait and see what
has struck me funny this week, and it happened yesterday.
You tweeted about it. I also tweeted about it. It
was about Alex Bregman yesterday going three for three for
his beloved or Boston Red Sox, yes including a home
run in Fort Myers where they had their facility. And

(06:44):
by the way, if you if you haven't figured it out,
they basically recreated Fenway Park for the Fort Myers facility. Yeah,
I've been got a big green monster. I believe the
dimensions are fairly similar to what they are in Boston.
I don't think. I don't think there's a pesky's pull thee.
I've never been there, but I can there's definitely a
green monster. And he hit a home run now yesterday

(07:05):
he also a bloop single and so it double off
the wall. I believe. Wow. So yeah, I was gonna
say three hit day. I am getting the sense you
tweeted it. I tweeted it that people are enraged when
they see anything about Alex pregnant. I see I wasn't enraged,
and this is I need to clarify. You're not enraged.
I'm not in rage, no, I know, but others have

(07:26):
been enraged by this. I know, you know what those
people need to shut their by masses up. I know
it's a Monday, save everyone day. I already had to
mute this conversation because my I made a very very
to me innocuous comment like, oh, this hurt more than
I thought it would. Right to see Alex Pregman in
another uniform, in a red Red Sox uniform, hitting a
home run with that same swing that we've seen years

(07:49):
in a Houston uniform. I was like, oh, oh, I
don't like this. And then I moved on with my life.
And then I get all these comments from people like, oh,
I can't believe you care. Screw Alex Pregman. He's the
this was off a double a pitcher who cares. Oh
this will only matter when this only matters when the
game start. Yeah, I know it doesn't count. Yes, I'm
aware at spring training, but it was the first home

(08:11):
run that I saw Alex Bregman hit in another uniform. Yeah,
And like I said, seeing it, I was just I
was just like, oh, this kind of sucks more than
I thought it was. I mean, here over, it didn't
ruin my day. Here's the reality of the ladies. And gentlemen,
we as a radio show host need to we create content.
It's not gonna be something that I'm going to stare

(08:32):
at every box in Red Sox score box score. I'm
not gonna look at every highlight. You're not every hit
that is posted on the Red Sox social media's I'm
going to retweet. But we are in charge of content.
We are in charge of creating conversation. Doesn't necessarily mean
you have to agree with our conversation. Doesn't that to
mean you have to engage in our conversation. But when
you are responsible for twenty hours a week of radio programming,

(08:55):
give or take a day or two with the spring
training games, and we are sports, our jobs are to say, hey,
here's what we think people could be, might be want
to talk about it? Yeah? Or would we Yeah? Like
you always say that as a sports bar. If I
was at a sports bar, you and me, Matt, and
we were having a bruskie, I'd be like, man, did
you see Alex Bregman hit that home run in a
Red Sox uniform? That was weird, kind of hurt seeing

(09:16):
him in a different uniform. I mean I would say that, Yeah,
trust me, I'm gonna be able to sleep tonight knowing
that even though Alex Bring went three for three, I
slept great, and even if Bragman crushes this year for
the Red Sox, my family is in good health. I'm
in pretty good health myself. Ross You're getting there. I mean,
we're gonna be fine. Uh huh. But the reality is
is that I have noticed even from my diehard Astro Twitter,

(09:39):
the P one listener or the P one tweet followers,
they are losing their blank over this, And I want
to say, just accept it for what is. I wasn't
trying to enrage you. I wasn't trying to say, oh,
the Astros should have done something differently. It was just
it was anecdotal. It was, Hey, this is something interesting
that happened in the first time he donned a spring
training uniform. Doesn't count. Did he do it against double

(10:01):
A pictures more than likely? Yes? Does it matter? Well?
He still is? There still a great opportunity for him
to struggle the months of April la Man because he's
done the last five years. Of course there is. But
it's just something for fodder. Yeah, I'm not saying he's
gonna hit fifty home runs. And the astros made a
horrible deal and this is the worst men's ruining my weekend. Yeah,
and then I'm getting comments like, dude, you need therapy

(10:21):
in a tampon. Well, you're getting muted. Dude, you're getting muted,
and I'm never gonna hear from you again. And you
are irrelevant to my life. Why would someone write that,
what is that person's name, I'm not even gonna give him.
That is really muted. It is really rude. I mean,
is that what we're gonna do? Ladies and gentlemen? And
I'm not saying I'm pointing this out for the point
one percent of you out there. You're gonna go run

(10:44):
to your social media and tell someone to wear a tampon.
I mean, come on, Yeah, it's not even my time
of the month. What are we twelve years old? Yeah?
When I was twelve years old, I wasn't worried about Tampa.
I was a worried about putting swore wards in my
mad libs. Okay, God, I thought Chili that was so
funny when I was a kid. I know, Matt, you
probably think it's hilarious now I just think it's kind

(11:06):
of funny. Why don't y'all get some mad libsky and
put in swear words as the verbs. You will laugh
your ass off. Can't wait? And you know I got
an evening free, so maybe I'll do that all night.
What are the dow adult mad libs? That are the
kids doing mad libs? No? I don't even think my
kids even did mad libs. I lived on mad limbs.
Are mad libs too woke? Now I don't. I can't

(11:28):
keep trapping. I don't know. I'm losing track of what's
woking what's not. But you haven't lived a good life
unless you are, at the age of eleven years old
going to get the mad libs and putting in f
and well, okay, well, I think yell all the verbs
and then chuckling at normally loud for long periods of time,
and your mother asking you why you're laughing so loud
when you're reading something nothing. I was mixing mad libs

(11:51):
with my Penthouse forms. Life was good ten fourteen. It
is the Matt Tommy Show with Ross seven one three
two one two five seven nine. If you want to
get in on the conversation seven one three two on
two five seven ninety.

Speaker 6 (12:03):
This is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross on four
seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (12:16):
Please come to Boston, fol spring.

Speaker 7 (12:20):
Time two one pitched Bragman rips that one high left field,
up towards the wall and over everything. Welcome to Boston,
Alex Bregman run shop.

Speaker 2 (12:35):
Excuse me and the.

Speaker 7 (12:37):
Red socks take up three another lad?

Speaker 2 (12:39):
What don't we just tell you? Counter day? He likes
the ball close to him? Please so insensitive? She said, no,
this is a jam. This is not a jam. What
is this? This is good seventies suicide anthems? What is
this crap? This is Bregman music talks about how going

(13:02):
to Boston then going somewhere else whatever? This is Nobody's
said jam right next to it. They did back in
seventy three. Probably didn't from Tennessee. She's just froming to Mexico.
But that's another hearing. Nor there close enough, Connor, what
I want you to apologize to City Houston for playing
that song and that highlight because we do not exist.

(13:23):
Acknowledge that Alex pregnant exists. I'd like to apologize for
Matt Ross telling he supposed to play with the bit. Connor,
at least get it right. I had nothing to do
with playing this crap. It was only Matt What is this?
Please come to Boston, but he winds up telling you
about going to other places. Listen, listen to this sounds brilliant.

Speaker 4 (13:47):
Come to Denver.

Speaker 2 (13:49):
She said no, she don't want to go anywhere. She's
a who, she's a horse. She doesn't want to be
delevanting around the country. Just stay at home. I know
what you said. It sounds like a giant a radio career.
This is horrible. So so far, Dave Loggins had told
you to go to Boston, she said no, Now Denver? Okay,

(14:13):
And she said no to Denver as well. I'm telling
Dave Loggins to stay home, get out of the studio.
Dave Loggins alive or dead, I'm gonna say dead. I
don't know, Okay, look it up later. ROVERTA. Fhlack. By
the way, Davey Loggins died actually last year, July tenth.
May he rest, ROBERTA. Flack, May she rest. She passed
away today at the age of eighty eight. All right,

(14:34):
it's enough of that. I love Dave Loggins's great song.
Is it on my phone? Yes?

Speaker 3 (14:37):
Or no? Oh? Wow?

Speaker 2 (14:38):
He died in a tractor accident on his farm. Shut up,
I made that up. You had me sold for a second. There,
you really did. Okay, second cousins with Kenny Loggins. That
is actually true. You're not doing a Dave Loggins believe
it or not. I no, I'm not touching that. Sorry.
Get that clip for ten twenty wishing wishing Dave the best.

(15:01):
How can you he's dead? Oh, I'm sorry. Wishing Dave's
family there you go, much better, much better the Logins family.
Speaking of that, speaking of dead, I've seen a family
not so much.

Speaker 8 (15:10):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (15:10):
Yeah, he screwed up. He's like he and our Garfunkle
are like, why did we break up? People? Please come
to Boston at number five hit in nineteen seventy four. Okay,
so I was off a year. This is a jam.
It's on my phone. Next road trip, you and I
go and we can play. We can play some Dave
Logins if I'm driving. That's true. That was the best
part about West Palm as you drove the whole time.

(15:31):
That was the best part is I didn't have to
listen to Dave Loggins type of crap. Yeah, put on
some Donny Hathaway Ross and I do have a rule
that when we travel together, whoever drives gets to pick
the music. See, but that's a rule that you always
break because you always are like and put this on
real quick. Just one song. We listened the greatest parties.
Won't got back to sports here. We listened to I
believe three James Brown songs between Fort a West Palm

(15:55):
Beach and Fort Hardhell, and we got there by the
time the third song was over with. That's right, everyone
had James Brown songs.

Speaker 3 (16:01):
You get.

Speaker 2 (16:01):
The extended version is ten minutes long, and it's a
bunch of Hey, he's screaming, having a good time talking
to Fred Wesley making some words. It's all. It's about
ten minutes of really soulful music in the background and
a man just blathering into a microphone. Think they call
it crack scat. He's just it's like, I want to

(16:23):
karaoke to that. You just got a James Brown song
on the and then yeah, all right, back to sports.
Uh So the snow and Aaron Idol thing happened over
the weekend. What happened over the week well, MLB reported
and I believe mister Taggart was on part of that,
said that the Red Sox and Astros or excuse me,

(16:44):
the Cardinals and the Astros were, uh, re engaging. Re
engaging and re engaging is a loosely used term. It
could be hey, you call, they call you a bout
a boom about a bang, And it could be a
ten minute conversation can be an hour. It depends on
who you want to asking. The only person would really
know the truth of that would be the inner Brown
And I don't know if Dan it's going to be
overly forthcoming with that, Okay. The athletic the next day said, yeah,

(17:08):
there were some conversations, but it really didn't go any
further than just the initial conversation. Aeronauto, going back a
couple of months, said I don't want to play for
the Houston Astros. Yeah, he was worried about where this
team was going to be in a couple three years.
He apparently. Aeronauto presented the Cardinals with a list of

(17:29):
five teams he would waive his full note trade clause four,
and the Astros not listed. Yeah, what he wants to
do is he wants to go to a contender, and
he believes the Astros are not a contender. I'm sorry, though,
the Astros are originally listed this says, this is Chandler
Roum story of the athletic Aeronaudo ultimately invoked his no
trade clause due to the timing of the deal, but
now says even though with re engagements then nothing is imminent.

Speaker 8 (17:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (17:52):
Now does it mean that things could change overnight? I
mean these are talking about human beings here, so this
is not like there's a set in stone contract that
says he can change his mind, know, like you could
take one in, put one out in that kind of thing,
so he could he could wake up and say, Jesus,
the Cardinal suck mm hm, and I want to go
play somewhere, and if the Astros are well, are the
team that's showing the most interest, let's go for it,
especially because let's not make any mistakes about this. I

(18:15):
believe the Astros. When the Josel two big conversation first began,
Ross you and I kind of agreed that it was
gonna be like a combo, a little bit of second base,
a little bit of left field. I think we're gonna
have to probably up the left field numbers for a
Josale two V as long as he's healthy and playing.

(18:35):
Might I don't know if he's gonna need to worry
about carrying two gloves as much as we thought he
was going to have to. Yeah, and real quick with
the ASTROS organization has said, if to regarding the Aeronauto deal,
if you change your mind, I'm the first in line.
So that's I mean, it's not closed, but it certainly isn't.

(18:57):
It isn't like it's it's as you said, imminent. I
mean again, things could change overnight. They also said, honey,
I'm still free. Take a chance on me. That kind
of reporting. You're only going to get here from Sports
Talk seven.

Speaker 9 (19:12):
Honey, that's what I'm here for, Matt. Okay, on a Monday,
we got four hours. Keep bringing it matter of fact,
Why don't you say that for twelve twenty six? Okay,
Oh you have NFL rewind today? You don't know this show? Yeah, okay,
you saw the presearch tweet. Yeah, you tagged me in it,
so I saw it.

Speaker 2 (19:27):
Okay, that's you don't always tag me in it because
tomorrow if you don't tag me that normally Tomorrow Wednesday
we have shorter shows. You can't. I don't want to
go two weeks on the NFL rewind. Okay, and by
the way, I did put a tweet out a few
minutes ago those of you asking for Steve Smith sports
MPT theater based off of the text not happening. It's
never going to happen. Heavily edited, it would have to be.

(19:50):
But I will say this, it'd be like mad libs.
If you don't mind reading some really salacious we could
graphically see Smith mad libs.

Speaker 10 (20:03):
It's true that maybe we shouldn't if you don't mind
reading explicit sexual material involving a former NFL athlete, explicit
explicit triple X.

Speaker 2 (20:16):
And here's the worst part at all. The woman it's
not how do I put this delicately? She she's she's
being portrayed as not the most attractive thing in the world. Uh. Yeah,
it wasn't very nice for people calling it was not nice. No,

(20:36):
that's not the worst part of all. The worst part
of it all, Matt, is somebody's happy home was broken up.
That is true. Steve Smith, who apparently is rearranging things,
and the yeah, and the husband called Steve Smith, and
all the Steve Smith could say the very end was
I'm sorry. But yet you know these people on Twitter
calling her squid word. Oh Jesus, this is not nice.
I mean calling her Jeff van Gundy. I thought that

(20:58):
was unfair. These people are very rude. Twitter, You're too mean.
Twitter is mean. Like remember Steve Phillips, the guy the
former general manager on ESPN analyst that was before Twitter.
He wound up being with someone and and Matt, everyone's
beautiful in their own way, okay, describing what this ross

(21:21):
just said. That's what she was facing some of the
same sort of backlash as well. So but yeah, we're
not reading Steve Smith's text because get my scar people
for a while, and with that would take a short
time out. Thank you, Matt, to tell the truth. At
eleven thirty today, I have four. I've already done it.

(21:43):
I did it last year. I was so bored yesterday.
I was like you said, you were current ketch up
on sleep. I did sleep. I don't work a little bit,
and then I would do look pretty fresh. Thank you
very much. I appreciate that. Normally you look gone and
thank you emaciated. Thank you for the takes I have.
You're gonna I believe three of them. One I don't believe.
You'll have to figure out which one of the four.
I don't believe that is coming up today. Eleven thirty

(22:04):
We got the NFL rewanted it twelve thirty talking about
me mean gaunt, It's terrible. Seven one three two one
two five seven ninety seven one three two one two
five seven ninety. If you like to explain how the
Rockets lost the jazz yesterday on Saturday night, I would
certainly invite that, because I'm a confused soul. Seven one
three two one two five seven ninety. You know MAT's

(23:32):
The Man Thomas Show with Ross with you until two
o clock. Houston. Astro's spring training game has been rained out. Yep, boy,
do you if you look at the Florida radar, I
mean I have that if you live in the state
of Florida, you're getting rain today. Get some rain over
the weekend too.

Speaker 8 (23:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (23:53):
Here, yeah, we'd rain. We landed in the middle of me.
It rained at four It when does the rain at
four o'clock in the morning. It was. It was a
tough turn home put on. Dave Logins drove back from
Hobby Airport to Kingdom when he had hit on repeat. Yeah,
he had seventeen times in the way home. I did,
I did. I don't know if he was one hit

(24:14):
win or not, but that's he was well one top
forty Okay, I got you all right. So Rockets lost
on Saturday, got a difficult back to back. First of all,
every back to back it feels like it's difficult. The
Rockets have not put together one of those amazing runs
of back to back impressive wins in quite some time. Actually,
they've lost seven of their last ten. Fortunately, the teams

(24:35):
in front of them and behind them the last forty
eight hours have lost some games. Memphis lost last night,
Minnesota lost last night to Oklahoma City. They play again
Oklahoma City and the Tea Wolves play again, so even
some hopeless and more separation between them. And while I
thought number two would certainly be attainable, it still has
only two games back. But there are also a couple
of games out of being down to six in the

(24:56):
Western Conference. So it is a massive jam between two
through six in the West right now, tightly packed West.
I mean, if you've heard that before, at least probably
just in the last two decades at this point, keep waiting
for the parody to turn in at right right. You know,
it's funny Memphis and Cleveland played yet last night on TV,
and you have talked about how try, how the NBA

(25:17):
should try to get into some yes, better matchups. Uh,
it was a good basketball game, but you could tell
there just wasn't the sizzle the talk there was in
the game earlier in the day between Dallas and Golden State,
and then the game that followed them after that, potent
Oklahoma City in Minnesota. I think that in the NBA

(25:39):
circles are probably closing the doors, going how do we
approach this? How do we put some other teams on that. Frankly,
you need to start pushing because it very well could
be on Colahma City versus Cleveland, the NBA Finals could
be and I and the people that are Adam Silver
just shuddered somewhere. Well, it's funny because while the rest
of us is basketball fans want the best matchup, that'd

(26:02):
be a great series. Seeing New York lose yesterday again
to a top three team in the East, get blown
out like they did to Boston yesterday probably doesn't make
Adam Silver particularly happy because he knows the New York
market not only doesn't necessarily move the national media, uh
the national attendance and people the appetite for it, but
the media loves talking about the Knicks. I mean, got

(26:23):
Steven A Smith who's literally carrying the pom poms. The
next thing is but yeah, Rockets lost to Utah. That
was bad. And Doka is just like he wants to
hug his guys ross and he wants to love on them,
and he wants to just tell them how much they're improving,
and then they regress and Cante George Laurie Marketing has

(26:50):
been an All Star. He's been okay. You know, he's
the longest streak in the NBA of being an active
player who have never made a playoff appearance. Is that true? Yeah? Huh?
Between Chicago in Utah, Wow, Walker Kessler never gonna can
be confused for a Nicola Jokic, nor should he no,
But yeah, they were. They were locking down the paint

(27:11):
where the Utah Jazz. Yeah. So, and if you're doing
that with a team that's not a great three point
shooting team, good things gonna happen.

Speaker 5 (27:18):
Yea.

Speaker 2 (27:18):
So Milwaukee is in here tomorrow and then Wednesday the
San Antonio Spurs and then another off day and then
they've got I think Denver on Saturday and then back
on the road for a week. So that's going on.
We'll talk to Imy Doka probably on Thursday's radio program.
But yeah, that was disappointing. College basketball of the weekend.
My cougar's knocked off Iowa State did not cover but

(27:38):
huge No still, I mean it was close to double digits, right. Yeah.
By the way, our girl that tried for the nineteen
thousand dollars in the Rate RARM Insurance half court Challenge, Okay,
she didn't even hit the rim once half court.

Speaker 11 (27:55):
You're outs.

Speaker 2 (27:55):
They're tough, Matt. But they're happening all over the place,
and women are strong and beautiful physically, generally, it's gonna
be tougher for a half court shot. Yeah, I'm sure.
I'm hopeful that they gave her the smaller basketball, because
you know, women's basketballs are different size of the men's basketball.
Probably they probably gave her an enlarged one state Farm

(28:15):
rate RM rate rhyme nineteen seconds and she shot nothing
but airballs. Jake probably overinflated the ball. And make sure
they don't do that. I don't like Jake. You know,
these insurance companies don't like losing money. Matt. That's true.
He'll make a claim and see what happened. That's true. Now,
by the way, there is a video surfacing. I don't
know what he was doing at a Bucknell basketball game.
But Alex Rodriguez made a half court shot at a

(28:37):
Bucknell game this weekend. Can I tell you? I was
trying to figure out what you were rhyming with buck Now.
But then I was like, wait, it's just buck Now.
It's just And by the way, if I try to
rhyme buck Now, I could get into some serious trouble.
I was like, buck Now, Oh wait, he's actually an
actual buck Now buck Now the college. Yes, he made
a half court shot and wanted some kid ten thousand bucks.
Oh that's great, good for a Rod. They didn't try

(28:58):
to keep it. Yeah, it's funny. The Minnesota Wolves were
in last week. It was a Friday night, a matter
of fact, and I was talking to some people in
the organization and I'll keep their names private. I says, so,
what's it likely to be a Rod? A rod like?
And he says, he's as measured as you think he is.
He's very self aware of who he's around, where he is,

(29:22):
who can see him, and how he can be put
in the most positive light. Twenty four to seven. Yep,
he's a vain guy. He'd be one of those type
of people that if you had a chance to interview him.
He'd want the questions had done ahead of time, and
he would want to be able to write two strike
said questions that he didn't think he would fair probably,
And there are a certain number of people in Minneapolis

(29:45):
that are worried that him and his cohort I don't
know the guy's name, do not only matter. The first
thing they're going to try to do is they're going
to try to get a new arena for the Wolves
in Minneapolis target centers, I want to say, even just
a little bit older than the Toyota SA. And you know,
the shelf lives of these arenas are now growing. In
these stadiums. For that matter, we're talking about energy just

(30:05):
the other day, they're running about twenty five years, which
is crazy because when you and I were growing up,
there were facilities that were fIF forty, fifty sixty years
that were running. But the bells and whistles are a
huge part of trying to attract the dollars that it
takes to run these sports franchises. And if you don't
have the latest and greatest and you're not constantly updating things,
you're gonna behind the eight ball and you're gonna have

(30:27):
you're gonna have a loss, lots of lost revenue opportunities
because you're building just isn't as cool as somebody down
the street. Yeah, I was wondering about that actually, So
I guess what is what is all the bells and
whistles attracting in basketball and football? Of course, it's these
college playoff games. It's it's soccer games and stuff like that.
So it's not a tournament game. It's not sweets anymore.

(30:48):
It's taking people that are your season ticket holders and
giving them club options within the game itself. Like for instance,
in Salt Lake City, I was just so they refurbished
the Delta Center about five six years ago. You know
how there's a lower you have an upper deck and
a lower level, and then the lower level starts topping.
What is it? Would you say? Diagonal down to the

(31:08):
courtside seats underneath the diagonal portion of the arena from
one baseline of the baseline, it's a full club area. Okay.
It has food, drinks, alcohol and none alcoholic, huge spread,
big food options. It probably costs the average person one
hundred and twenty five bucks a game to eat this
all you can eat. You can go in there multiple
times during the game, there's a pregame spread, swashed halftime.

(31:31):
I mean, it's a it's like a huge For those
of you that have been to the Gallagher Club at
Minute Made Park or Dyking Park, it's exact same thing,
but it's actually at this arena and this place was jams.
So what you're doing is you're taking your season ticket
base and you're saying, hey, instead of going to the
concessions and getting crappy food every single time for one
hundred and fifty bucks or whatever it is per game,
you can go to our club section and eat all

(31:53):
you want and get high end food like they let
us eat there the night. They had a carving station,
they had sandwiches, they had popcorning ice cream, and I
mean it was just a lavish buffet. That's what they're
looking for. The sweet selling world is only hot a
few times for like concerts and big events. The world

(32:13):
is getting those people that are already in your building
to spend more money per person, and that's what they're
looking for. Okay, That's why you will see when the
Tota Center continues its improvements in the next couple of years,
you will see more of that you will not see. Oh,
we've gotten now twenty four more sweets. I mean, how
many times you sent in a suite for a basketball game,
Rockets game? I think once. How many times you've been

(32:34):
in a suite in an Astros game and it wasn't ours? Oh,
and it wasn't ours. You see, I'm saying a couple
of times, but it's not very much. You've been going there,
but you've been going there for more rates. Yeah, So
that's what people want. They want close proximity, they want
vip royal treatment for those people that are already there. Okay,
so that's what you're saying. That's what the lost revenue
is and that's why all these arenas are on the

(32:56):
NBA are trying to say, all right, so I'm gonna
go see a concert. I'm gonna go see Bruno Mars,
but I want to have steak instead of having hot dogs.
And that's what they'll charge a higher dollar amount for
this club sete yes, And that's what I think the
I think Alex Rodriguez wants in Minneapolis. They're going to

(33:16):
try to move out of there. And by the way, again,
I'm sensing continued rejuvenation of arenas outside of downtown. It
was so funny because thirty years ago Ross everybody wanted
to move into downtown. Now you've got sports franchises moving out.
Chicago Bears just all stir of the weekend. They're not
giving up on the thought of moving to the suburbs
to play their games outside of Souldier Field. Really, yeah,

(33:37):
realize they've been in that facility but for seventy five years.
I mean they they've refurbished it, but in that same area,
they've been there for decades and decades and decades. Now
you're thinking about going outside. So this something to think about.
The world of going downtown unless you're downtown is super vibrant.
It's no longer a foregone conclusion. Ten forty three on

(33:58):
The Matt Thomas Show with Ross on three two one
two five seven ninety seven one three two one two
five seven nine zero on Twitter at Sports MT, at
Sports RB, at Connor d McGovern to tell the Truth
at eleven thirty, The News at noon twelve thirty, We've
got NFL re one and uh, do you want to
go roberta Flack at one at for not REBT. Is

(34:19):
it verberta Flack that ROBERTA Flack. Yeah, you want to
go with herdio or something else. What was the most
piping hot sports thing we had this weekend? Roberta flag guy,
that's the most piping hot thing. I don't know. You
were at Marty Girl down in Galveston and a good
time there was. Yes, I did anything good? Anything happening
down there. Let's say, I mean there was some debauchery. Yeah.

(34:40):
I was always able to get on a float. I
was throwing out some beats. Did people know who you were?
Nobody knew I was, but people I was on the
same float as rod Ryan. People knew who he was.
Oh yeah, they were going, what's up?

Speaker 8 (34:50):
What's up?

Speaker 2 (34:51):
Yeah? Basically all right, he had a great We had
a great time. Did you I got flashed once by
Rod Bye guy okay ten forty four on Sports Talks.

Speaker 6 (35:01):
Matton ross return return on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (35:12):
Excellent job by ESPN to be here on Saturday for
game day. Cougar's got knocked off Iowa State, although the
game was a lot closer than I think a lot
of people thought it would because Iowa State was losing,
had their two top scorers, one was sick and one
was hurt. I think the spread went to twelve and
a half something like that. I think it was a

(35:33):
minus one thousand on the money line if you wanted
to take U of H to beat Iowa State.

Speaker 4 (35:37):
I don't.

Speaker 2 (35:37):
That rarely happens that big of a number on a
college basketball regular season game because they are still kids.
And then they can have a downdown between two top
ten teams. You know what that tells you? Matt Cougars
are strong, The markets are believing in the Koogs. Could
this be the year? Here's I'm going to try to
be reserved about this, okay, because you're gonna get reserved

(36:00):
about anything. I know, in this particular case, I want
them to go to the Final four. They're one of
the they're one of the seven or eight best teams
in the BASTE best teams. Okay, traveling Cougar's what's up.
I'm trying to slow play this a little bit. The defense,
here's the thing I love. Their defense is as tenacious

(36:21):
as ever. Yes, they have three big men to occupy
two spots. So if one gets hurt, or one is
a foul trouble, or one's in effective, there's somebody else
coming in mm HM. And they've got outside threats. I
know arsenal uzon crier Malik Wilson's playing a little bit.

(36:43):
I mean ross, they're they're a solid eight nine man rotation.
When you go into the casino week from Friday. That's
too long. I need that futures bet, No, I mean
I can only do some mind, Come on, Matt, let's go.

(37:04):
I'll find a bookie. No, let's do it. We'll wire
somebody legally go to the LC this weekend. I'm off
at twelve tomorrow. You could go tomorrow, but I got
pre and post both days, so it's really not like
I'm getting much time off. No, no, you're not even
coming up here. So no, it's fine. It's great. Gotta
get my rest at two big games coming back to backs.

(37:28):
Gonta entertaining the audience, like six back to backs coming up,
I know we'll be fuck. He's back to back? When
when did when they space?

Speaker 1 (37:35):
He's bad?

Speaker 2 (37:35):
Boys out? How many are there to have the back
to backs gone up? Or are they still down from it?
Feels like they're sixteen seventeen a year, which is about
fourteen too many. Feels like that is a lot. And
again Houston to Salt Lake City is not a back
to back? Well, how do you go into the All
Star break with a back to back and then you
start after the All Star going back to back? That's
not Why couldn't we have played on Thursday? Just these

(37:56):
these are things that grown men bitch about. Multi million
dollar players living their best life, scoring points, getting on
chartered planes. Season wears on you, Matt, it does. Look
at me. You know I've aged okay, not gracefully. Let's
talk to Eric in Bay citting at ten fifty two
on the Matt Thomas shild Ross here on Sports Talk seven.

(38:18):
I Eric, good morning, and thank you for holding.

Speaker 4 (38:21):
Yes, sir, I'm sure you guys were excited to see
my name this morning. Hey, I'm excited too about Brendan
Rodgers coming to the Astros. This is a gold glove player,
had an OPS almost as good as Bregman's last year,
had a better batting average than Bregnant last year, and
we paid the price of a minor league deal rather
than forty million dollars. This is a heck of a deal.

Speaker 2 (38:42):
Brendan Rodgers OPS plus last year. Now, of course you
know this is for correct is corrects for stadiums because
you know he played in Colorado. Eric, last year Bregman
was won eighteen with one hundred being average, he was
ninety four for his career. He's ninety.

Speaker 4 (39:00):
Well, there's your defense get better in Colorado? Or is
he a real gold glover on like Adam Everett Ross?

Speaker 2 (39:05):
Okaye being so antagonistic here, miss, he missed this last
week because you were out, because you're missing a lot
of time and we've hardly seen you this year. You
he called in and said that Adam ever was the
worst astro ever and then Alex brig was the second worst.

Speaker 4 (39:20):
I was Okay, let me, I want to take a
chance to walk that back.

Speaker 2 (39:23):
Okay, we know you were being hyperbolic. We understand.

Speaker 4 (39:26):
I thank you. It was the only thing you clung to,
because really, the one thing you should have clung to
is the fact that Bragman, along with those other guys
I talked about, have hurt how two Bays chance of
being a first ballot Hall of Famer, which is ridiculous.
But they're gonna hold this against him.

Speaker 2 (39:40):
He's gonna be a first ballot guy. He's going to
be first ballot.

Speaker 4 (39:42):
Eric, I think you're going to fall short. I think
they're gonna they're getting.

Speaker 2 (39:46):
A second ballid. Nobody would be fine, who cares well.

Speaker 4 (39:50):
I think it's a slap in the face of him.

Speaker 3 (39:52):
He was.

Speaker 2 (39:54):
Like, all right, folks, and now back to the ballpark
for the first time in five years. Second ballot Hall
of Famer jose l TV. Nobody says that he'll be fine.

Speaker 4 (40:04):
Okay, well, you get Billy Wagner a hard time about
be in a tenth ballot Hall of Famer. But I
guess it's a double.

Speaker 3 (40:11):
Point.

Speaker 4 (40:12):
Let me make one last point, guys.

Speaker 2 (40:14):
I cringe in.

Speaker 4 (40:15):
The number set ah no. I cringe seeing Victor Krantini
in the number seventeen jersey of Lance Berkman, a guy
that has one hundred point higher career ops than both
Altuve and break them now over four hundred batting average
in the World Series and two appearances. Lance Berkman's a legend.
His jersey should be retired. He will eventually be put

(40:37):
in by the Veterans Committee in the Hall of Fame.
I've heard the guys say it on MLB TV. It's
going to happen.

Speaker 2 (40:43):
Well, we're wishing him the best. Thank you, Eric, for sure.

Speaker 4 (40:45):
I switch hit or played four positions.

Speaker 2 (40:47):
Yeah, we know, we watch him. Thank you, I love you.

Speaker 5 (40:52):
Eric.

Speaker 2 (40:53):
I do believe Lance Berkman is a Veterans Committee guy.
I will say this when I create my dream lineup.
Lance Berkman isn't on that list. But there are guys
that are in the Hall of Fame with even less
credentials than Alex Bregman has and the big x Alex
Perman that Lance Berkman has. And the biggest thing that
hurt me for Berkman is that he got knocked off

(41:17):
the ballot in his first goal around. Yes, that was embarrassing.
It's pretty crazy. But only three hundred and sixty six
home runs ops is great. The nine thirty, I'll go
in the nine thirties. Ish, I'll get a hot take
for you. I think they should have retired Lance Berkman
seventeen before Billy Wagers thirteen. I think they should do

(41:39):
it the same year. Actually, no, I don't think they should.
They should space this oude some more tickets. No, you
can sell you we can retire Lance Perkman's number. That's fine. No,
I know, I think seventeen. What do you make of
people saying that he wasn't people didn't think he was
the nicest guy ever within the organization. Really ever hear
that I had? Again, my dealing with him are limited

(42:01):
except for interviewer to Interviewee. Yes, but I've always found
very accommodating. I agree, and that to me goes a
long way. Now again, what he does, what he's like
when the room is, when the door is closed, we
don't see it or two different things. Oh, I guess.
And I'm not asking you to out any bunny, but
how did you hear of this? It's just it's just heard.

(42:22):
It's a whispered on the streets. I gotta ask you
af he that because I'm really curious now about this.
I'm really curious about this. I thought I thought he
was jovial. I thought he was really good. I thought
he was clutch. I thought for a guy that didn't
want to bat right handed. Ever, because his numbers were
dramatically down, he would give you a key hit now

(42:43):
and then in that particular category nine forty three ops career,
one forty four career ops plus, that's fantastic, special, three
hundred and sixty six home runs. I didn't get to
four hundred? Was he? That was steroid era being part
of the problem. I don't think any did you look
at but I'm saying juice baseball. I mean, there could

(43:03):
be a variety of things I did. What I want
to know is why did he get kicked off the
list so damn fast? Is because he played in Houston,
six time All Star. He was top five in the
m v P five different times, but never higher than third.
He's a Hallo very good. I think's he's going to
get serious consideration in the veterans side of things. I

(43:25):
really believe it to be accurate. I think he got it.
I would like him to have at least got into
four hundred home runs. Hallo very good. I'll stick with it. Okay,
Hallo very good. Means I can retire his number for
the Astros. You could, you can't and not even sweat it.
He's in the Astros Hall of Fame, right, I imagine? Oh yeah,
he gets a yeah, yeah, yeah, matter of fact, I'm

(43:47):
getting an orange jacket this year. No, I think it's
for continuous service. Do you and Junction Jack? I believe
going in together. I think Junction check over orbit is
orbit Pistol is still active. Oh okay, I'm still active too,
although I could be probably I'm st s I'm actually
eligible for the Houston Media Hall of Fame, but I've
not been out lighter than the years past. All Right,

(44:11):
seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven nine. Let's get
the second hour started of the Matt Thomas should ross
a lot of things to get to including uh the
Astros reigned out today that that's a big deal. But
the fact of the matter is we silviet to see
jose Al Tuova patrol left field, Brendan Rodgers huge minor

(44:32):
league contract. No on Aaronado's stuff. Not a whole lot
to that. Although the name was brought up over the weekend,
and yeah, I'm putting Berkman, I'm retiring his jersey. I
really am a great Houston astro. Okay, I mean as
meaningful as Lurry Dirker, right, probably see. But I also

(44:54):
don't like that argument of like, oh, he's better than
some people that are in. Yeah, just because somebody else
doesn't deserve to be and doesn't mean Lance Berkman deserves
to be in or just because I'm not saying Larry
Durky didn't deserve it, but just because I don't know whatever. Sorry, Steek,
just take your state your case. I'm okay with that.
You gave it out eloquently, like I mean, seventeen to
me is yeah. But to me in my mind maybe

(45:15):
just because of the age that I was, and you're
seeing his entire prime seventeen astros to me is Lance
Park and say I feel thirteen is Billy Wagner. It's
ten eight on Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 1 (45:25):
Ninety launchtimers, this is the Matt Thomas Show.

Speaker 2 (45:32):
Thank you for listening to The Matt Thomas Show with
Ross here on Sports Talk seven nine eleven zero two
is our time. It's nice to have you with us
as we take this program today until two o'clock. If
you're looking for the Astro as well, we would have
had it on tape delayed today, but they're not going
to play anything up the rain that's going to knock
out tonight's today's game and tomorrow I'll be back in
action against the Metropolitans. We'll have it for you right

(45:53):
here on seven. Hinty will be your pregame show for
that between ten and eleven and fifty tomorrow here on
seven ninety Wow Rocket's a long break game. Well, you know,
spring training games need one hour and fifty minutes a
pre game. We've got that coming up, and then we've
got a Rockets tomorrown against Milwaukee, then another spring training
game on Wednesday, and then the Rockets take on the
San Antonio Spurs minus Victor wibin Yama and minus Greg

(46:18):
Papa bitch. You see the story of the weekend. Then
he's not going to return to the coach this year,
and his future in San Antonio is in doubt. My
guess is he's what seventy I think he's seventy six,
mid seven, mid to late seventies. You've got five titles,
You've got more money than life. Retire. Yeah, it was
a stroke he suffered, correes he did. Yeah. Now he

(46:41):
did get a hillacious contract to come back a couple
of years ago. I think it's gonna pay him like
fifteen million dollars a year or something or like that. So,
but he should have money though, he's got plenty of money,
plenty of a bad yacht problem or something. How do
you have yacht issues in San Antonio?

Speaker 12 (46:55):
True?

Speaker 2 (46:55):
I can say Lake is the k Yeah, yeah, you've
been in a big is that papovichigaen is that Papovich
just tug boat out there. When I was a kid,
I loved the thought of the Riverwalk. I thought it
was the greatest thing, like you get to walk downtown Renver.
And then I realized the things that are done in
that river and then you go by there and you
smell it and you smell feces. Yeah, and the food

(47:17):
at the Riverwalk is so mid too. Oh my god,
they don't even care. Yeah, it's used to be like
and maybe it was never a great dining experience. Yeah,
but your palette of ten is certainly different at forty
five or whatever. Some people's are exactly Craig Akerman, but
that's not a different issue for a different time.

Speaker 8 (47:33):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (47:34):
But Yeah, I'll go to San Antonio four to five
times a year. I don't I never eat a roalk
ever ever, ever. Seventy six years old. He just turned
seventy six in January. Yeah, and probably should retire and
go ahead and sit this one out, Greg, It's been real. Yeah.
Although if he's feeling better and you can get over

(47:54):
to whatever he's in his recreation process, I'm sure he'd
love the opportunity to coach Wemby and Deer and Fox
at least for one year. But who knows who's to say?
All right? What else going on? Headline wise? NFL combine
used tomorrow and starts tomorrow in Indianapolis, and you couldn't
be more excited about it, hurt. Oh my god, I'm
thrilled by the way. I think I have a take

(48:15):
that I may have to adjust on the Texans first
round draft. What do you think I was gonna change?
I thought you were going to adjust your take on
you on your Ashton jin t take. Oh no, they
got the top five on their boards. I'm ready for
this one, folks. When he cracks an ankle, you'd be saying, Matt,
you saying never a thousand yards and you said, just
a guy in the NFL. Oh, this is gonna be great. Yeah,

(48:38):
take that. I'll take the loss on that one. It's
your wrongness, But go ahead. What but Texans, Oh that
you're going to kick on? I think they're gonna have
to go wide receiver in the first round because let
me give you two fold One, you can get value
as a receiver. You can get what value is they
run as an offensive lineman. The second round Okay, we

(48:58):
know that already. For although they actually do have a
second round pick they have, they lost one with the
with the dig strip two but two Tank Doll's not
playing next year. And you need a in today's NFL world,
if you're gonna be explosive offense, you can't have a
one and a two. You gonna have a one in
a one. You haven't have to have a one in

(49:19):
a one A or a one B. I mean, look
at look at Cincinnati when they're you know, with the
Jamar Chase and with the T Higgins. That's a one
in a one. Aye. They didn't make the playoffs, No,
but you might. You get my drift. I'm just messing
with you. Their defense is terrible, but yeah, if you
want to go, well, uh, the Chiefs made the Super Bowl,
but where are they starting to emerge as a number

(49:39):
one as the season went along. He's got a lot better.
But when you talk about the elite teams in the NFL,
I'm not saying you in particular, but in general, most
teams we talk about with high octane offenses have two
downfield scary threats A J. Brown, DeVante Smith and you
have my Miami there. Yeah, Uh yeah, but who right

(50:00):
now is the one b to Nico Collins? Can you
can you really legitimately answer that question?

Speaker 5 (50:05):
John?

Speaker 2 (50:07):
See, that's that's the point. Yeah, I am, I am
of the firm. Believe it's not good. No, it has
to be making my point. You're making my point via
either via free agency or the draft. See, I don't
think you can do it through free into your trade
and I'll give you. I'll give you one reason why.
I'll give me one reason why, c J Stroud. You're

(50:31):
gonna have to be lean at a certain position financially
in order to take care of CJ financially. Is so
if you're going to spend fifty to sixty million dollars
a year on a quarterback, which they're going to and
you've already spending a halatious amount of money on your
left tackle who might be gone in a year or two. True,

(50:56):
you're gonna have to pay Derek Stingley pretty soon, Yes
you are. You just fattened Nico Collins contract up. You did.
But but it's you you have him on a deal. Actually,
I think it's only maybe two more years. He Actually
you might have to re up him. Okay, So that
for those my point a little bit. But you also

(51:17):
do have the salary cap making a big jump. You do.
But again, I think that money that's going to the
jump at the number one position, the quarterback. My point
is that you have to be lean in important positions.
You can't just rely on your right guard making little money.
I think the best thing you can do is to
go get a speedy, young wide receiver and not a
lot of wear and tear on him. And the easiest

(51:38):
thing to do that, to replenish him, is in the
early rounds of the NFL draft. Okay, so you're saying,
Matthew Golden, come on home to Houston, let's go. I
never should have left to begin with. But I understand
why no he did. He wanted to go play in
the playoff. Want he want to be the bridesmaid? I
get it. He didn't want to go be eighth place
in the Big twelve or whatever you guys were. We're
gonna be much. But you see how Willie Frist will
get the balls rolled up on game day on Saturday

(52:00):
Championship material is he? Okay? He's great and well he's
in his sixties. So I'm just where you're saying that
death nails in the sixties. Okay, And here Kurt, you know,
start calling you mister age discrimination guy. I'm not age discriminating.
Yeah you are. I'm sure Willy's doing greatly. He's got
probably better Harby than you and I combined. That's actually
lower cholest level and everything. Kenny and Katie. At eleven

(52:21):
or nine on the Matt Thomas showed Ross Kenny, good
morning to you.

Speaker 13 (52:24):
Well, hello, gentlemen, how y'all being amazing good? Hey, So
I took my kids to baseball games back in the
Dome and we made the transition over to minim E Park.
But back in the day two thousand and two, two
thousand and three, in that area, they had the Sro
Sports Bar and Milow would do the astro line there

(52:48):
and they would always have a player come and Craig
Bigio would show up and he would sign two items
from everybody in the building.

Speaker 4 (52:59):
Bagwell show up.

Speaker 13 (53:00):
He would sign one item from everybody in the building.
Lance Bergman showed up and would sign forty items and
get out of there as fast as humanly possible. He
walked right by my because they did a lottery. You
went in and they handed out tickets, so they only
pulled out numbers. My fourteen year old daughter standing there

(53:21):
begging Lance Berkman for an autograph on his baseball and
he just blew by her like she wasn't even standing there.
So love the astros and Bergmann seems like a nice
guy on TV and being interviewed and everything, but he
really lost a fan twenty five years ago doing that.
So yeah, I'm just that's my that's my encounter with

(53:42):
Lance Berkman compared to other players. So I just wanted
to add that, Matt, and congratulations on your promotion.

Speaker 2 (53:47):
Ross, Thank you, Kenny, appreciate it. I didn't hear about that. Yeah,
your name's on the show now is that a promotion?
Has it worked out well for you? No, that's too bad.
More burdens now methica trade involved. Ever since I did that,
you started leaving the show more. So I'm here this week. Look,
I'll be here during the summertime, you know that. Yeah,

(54:08):
we'll see. I mean I got a couple of things playing. Yeah,
I know you'll be going in Vegas. Get a little
July volleyball. We'll going to Vegas like six times. You degenerate.
We're gonna get We're gonna call our friends at Burka,
don't we. I will also say, oh, yes, we do.
That's a great trip. Let's get down there, let's go uh.
I will also say that one interaction about uh. And

(54:28):
I'm not saying that. Maybe it was a bad experience
for Kenny, but most athletes you can find at least
somebody telling a story like they didn't sign this autograph
for me, because a lot of times they are busy,
maybe they're in a bad mood that day. You never know,
So I'm not I'm just saying I'm not. I'm gonna
tell you something that I've lived eating Berkman for that.
When it's when it comes to that is that Nolan

(54:50):
Ryan wants.

Speaker 14 (54:50):
Told me that he goes Matt and I signed ninety
nine autographs out of every one hundred people, but that
one person I didn't sign. He goes and tells all
his and that Nolan Ryan didn't sign my autograph.

Speaker 2 (55:02):
He's a boy. I'm a bad guy. That was a
terrible Nolan No, right, Matt, the one as good as yours.
And then he tried to sell you some foundation repair
right after the right in the middle story. Yeah, and
some of his men repaired Matt, Yeah, some of his
saying as Beef yes. Point being is this not every autograph.

(55:25):
Not every professional athlete, regardless of sport, bats a thousand
when it comes to autograph signing. So if there was
something that was uh that people would call up daily
or would write weekly and say this guy didn't do
this and never sign then autographs or whatever, I'd give
it a little more merit. I'm sure Kenny your story

(55:45):
is completely valid. I understand that. But for every one
of the Kenny and Katy stories, we're gonna probably get
fifty more stories of Lance couldn't sign enough autographs. Lance
spoke to my kids team when I was a kid.
I mean, there's it's just it's just a daytime, place, mood,
scheduling kind of thing. So I take I take every
story that I hear about an athlete, generally speaking, with

(56:06):
a grain of salt, unless I know it's somebody that
has had a lifelong issue of not signing autographs, being affable.
Pile up and I hear them all the time and
all the time, right right, all right, eleven thirteen Sports
Talk seven ninety To tell the truth is coming up
at the bottom of the cantar. Let's go when you guys.
You guys won both Uh you I got yours wrong

(56:29):
last week. I was kind of supported. So I've got
four takes. I believe three of them, Okay, so one
I don't believe because I coming up at the bottom
of the hour seven one three two one two five
seven nine zero seven one three two one two five

If you want to join us today, whether it be
about the NFL uh combine, which I don't think is
gonna be a whole lot of conversation, although I can
tell you there is a potential first round NFL quarterback
that does not want to take part in the combine.
I'm sure there'll be a part of Ross's NFL rewind

(57:11):
coming up at twelve thirty today. Also, believe it or not,
Today we're doing roberta Flack on that she passed away
at the age of eighty eight. Killing Me Softly will
be her most famous song, right I would say so?
Or the First Time I saw your face feel like
making Love? No? What that's her song? No? Yeah, I

(57:34):
think we're thinking of two different versions. And what I'm
thinking about is, you know, few Luck making the love
too with Bad Company? Yeah, with Bad Company. Yeah, it
was actually ROBERTA. Flack featuring Bad Company. That's not true
at all. That is a one hundred percent lie. Ross
is a Liar's aready lied once so far today on
the radio program seven one three two one two five seven,

(57:56):

Speaker 6 (59:15):
The Man Tana Show with Ross continue So on Sports
Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 15 (59:22):
Stolen in.

Speaker 2 (59:25):
Watching when I turned to spree all, you were right.
This is the version I was thinking about. You's got
a great voice. Number of ROBERTA. Flax songs on my phone.
Crank this up. Let me tell you that's if you

(59:45):
what year was this song? Right now, Madia, I can
find this is a song that Connor plays with a
girl right now? He does it nineteen seventy four Connor,
Yes or no? This song is you play for the
girl before you all y'all go out. No, she didn't
put her to sleep? Wait what excuse me? What it's
not nice? I mean, never mind, talk to me.

Speaker 6 (01:00:09):
The moon.

Speaker 2 (01:00:09):
I'm sweet and put you like a pause when I
think you I think you're just no, forget, I'm gonna
Roberta Fleck influenced the subgenre of contemporary R and B
called Quiet Storm. Here it is, Maddie. That's why she's
my goat. You didn't even know she did this song,

(01:00:32):
but you've heard this before. I absolutely have. I have
zero Roberta flex songs, by the way, on my phone.
That's a mistake on your end. You mean to tell
me that young twenty two year olds in seventy four
or not jam into this song before they were gonna
make sweet love to their woman or their man. I'm
probably in seventy four, I guess. Yeah. Do we have

(01:00:54):
songs like that in twenty twenty five? I'm sure? Let
me ask Connor Connor, what's our twenty five freelove making song?
I mean, leave the door open?

Speaker 12 (01:01:03):
So I was gonna say, sulk Sonic. So sonic at
the hits mad they did? They did some the whole album.

Speaker 2 (01:01:08):
Let's play some suk sonic after to tell the truth,
like A eleven fifty. That's fair, sure, because I want
to know what the kids are you know us. I'm
not saying using, but you know, just the weekend sentence, Oh,
the weekend it's good stuff. Yeah, okay, so you know
classic there's a genre for that. Yeah, Matt. Everybody always
needs love making music. I'm not even saying love. I
make it. If you're getting into the music game, you

(01:01:30):
can cuddle, yeah, that's after well. I mean you can
also just say if you're waiting to get married, that's
fine too. Okay, So then dry? What is wrong with
you today? I don't know, seriously, you have? You have
worked eighty percent are today on the radio show Are
I haven't said what PG. Thirteen. I would say, you

(01:01:51):
said dry you brought up I uds No, I didn't
bring that up. You did. I did not say that word.
Steve Smith, what's wrong with you? It's redecorating, reorganizing, not redecorating, refurbished.

(01:02:19):
You brought it up. I did not bring it up.
That is the second time in a week I've heard
about IUD. That's what I'm saying. When I'm on the road,
like like Saturday, I was canatonic. I mean, I was like,
just get ready for the game. I didn't leave my
I didn't leave the hotel. I ate my meals at

(01:02:39):
the hotel. And I got on these Facebook reels and
there's these two women. I don't know who they are,
but they talk about they're very vulgar and they talk
about their sexual exploits. And Okay, the IUD thing brought
can We're moving on. Let's get to ask her that's
wrong with you? You know what, folks, I would like

(01:03:00):
to apologize to the city of Houston for and what
Matt Thomas is bringing to the table. You're the one
who brought it up.

Speaker 11 (01:03:05):
I did not.

Speaker 2 (01:03:06):
Oh maybe I wasn't one to brot up. Those three
letters did not come out of my mouth, and not
in that order anyways, all Right, Taylor trammell or is
it Trammel? Trammel Trammel? He likes Tremmell as well. He
gets a little and not annoyed, but you know because
of Bubba Trammel. And who there's another Alan, a famous
Detroit tiger. Yeah, he's Troummel. He's like, yeah, I gotta

(01:03:29):
correct everybody that I come across my life. The guy
I interviewed him in a FanFest, he's very nice, was well,
he's got a bad calf. Oh well, in a walking
boot will be out for a while. The fan fest curse.
I guess, so Caleb Bard left Old, you talk to
Cayler Bardon. We did not, Okay, left Oblique is throwing
on the cage off of a Speenzer. All notes from
Brian mctaggard through Joe's spot It today. Oh God, pedro

(01:03:51):
Leone has a bad left knee, will undergo an MRI
today in West Palm Beach. A spot is not concerned.
Sean Dubin concerned. He's a space cowboy. I mean if
if pedro Leone was you don't ever want to recommend
real estate for somebody. But maybe Peedroyllwan should buy something
in sugar Land. That's great. Yeah, Joe Spott is not concerned.

(01:04:15):
I wonder why not, because they're about to retire a
Space Cowboy jersey. He's gonna be a Space Cowboy Hall
of Fame. Yeah. Sean Dubin headed to Houston to gonna MRI.
I probably wont gonna make the flight to day because
the weather's not good. He tried to play catch yesterday
and did not feel well. That's it was on his

(01:04:36):
lance for colors. Junior's okay, he said, they said he
threw a bully's feeling good. Yeah, he's gonna probably face
live hitters in the next few days. I love it. He's
on track. Baby feelings. I did here late April. I've
got some good I got some lands of colors junior feeling.
Are you gonna stat it or are you just gonna
just tell us when his return? No, we'll see tomorrow

(01:04:58):
at eleven thirty. Yeah, we gotta. We have a snack
size edition of the Gut Feeling. So we're gonna get
him out of the way quick. Oh that's right. Should
we do him earlier? Eleven o'clock We went on that
many Sometimes people call in it's a two segment or
thing you want to do well, you know, well, eleven
twenty tomorrow about that, Okay, we'll do eleven twenty for
gut feelings tomorrow, so that yeah, I don't know, it's

(01:05:21):
it's it's it's gravy. If he plays, he plays, he's
gonna play. I mean, feeling good. I would think if
you were to betting man based off every bit of
positive number news we've received so far, yes he's going
to pitch. But I think there's a certain segment of
the asterisk population. It's kind of like, I'm gonna wait
and see, because I've been hearing this before and there

(01:05:44):
was obviously a difference in bullpen sessions and facing live hinters,
then getting into some sort of calendar routine where he's
pitching every five days or whatever he's going to do.
I'm feeling good, and again no disrespect to the bullpen sessions,
but throwing in eighty four, he's running up in ninety one.
They said, if that's the max he goes, is that max,

(01:06:09):
he's going high. He gonna be like it outs Absolutely,
it's got wicked stuff. You know what you you You
are a glass half full on him, And I think
that's probably good because I think most of the astrosk
population is more glass. A bunch of haters. The glass
is broken in several pieces, velocity eighty nine to ninety
one miles an hour. Expects to throw a live VP
this weekend? Can he he can't survive on just throwing

(01:06:31):
fastballs though, Yeah, I don't know. Is the curveball gonna
put some forearm strain on him? Can you effectively throw
a curveball without hurting a part of your arm that
has hurt your arm, that has hurt you for the
last week underhand curveballs? So that's what I heard, Mohaman?
Does he throw less? Does it?

Speaker 12 (01:06:48):
Was?

Speaker 2 (01:06:48):
That was him throwing all those curveballs in the World Series,
part of the reason why he created the arm problem. Again, well,
I wouldn't say that, okay seven one three two one
two five seven nine zero seven one three two one
two five seven ninety We have believe it or not.
Today at one fifty all things were bord of flack.
We have nfl Rewind coming up the news at noon,

(01:07:08):
and we have up next to tell the truth. Connor
will explain it to you because it al usally takes
Ross about half hour to figure this out. Connor, I
have four sports takes. Sports takes three of them. I
believe three of them. You believe, one I do not
one you do not. That's flipping it. Yes, eleven twenty eight.
Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 11 (01:07:27):
Ninety I never know why.

Speaker 2 (01:07:48):
Ladies Gentlemen is a Monday feature of the radio program.
It is about Thomas Showed, Ross James and Alvin stand By.
We'll get to you in a couple of minutes, but
right now my opportunity to see if my cohort's here,
Ross and Connor can figure out my sports opinions. Now,
most of the time they think they suck, and that's fine.
I can live with that. I'm used to that. It's horrible.

(01:08:09):
I have four sports take no major trades. What was
it you say? Kakucine ever goes seven innings, some other
bad ones. Most men are good if you film are
out a little outlandish. That's the reason we had the show.
Tend to do sports Figma. Yeah, exactly three of these
four I believe when I do not which one of
the four do I believe? Wonderful Number one I believe

(01:08:31):
on Hopefully, if the Astros are successful, we're gonna have
a nice, fun, enjoyable season. Okay, but boys, if things
go south for the Astros, the first pitcher I would
trade is Josh Hater. I don't think you want you
if you're gonna begin a rebuild, and I think if
things do go south this year, the first thing you

(01:08:54):
didn't want to do is get rid of a high
priced closer for a baseball team that's not going to
be a contender. Okay, Okay. Number two, My suggestion for
those of you that are looking to buy estac Parides
jerseys is not to buy them. I don't think we're
talking about a long term future with escak Parides as

(01:09:16):
a Houston astro. I think this year is probably okay,
but I would be not surprised if they move on
from him within the next two to three years. Okay, uh, okay,
I think he is. I think we're gonna probably miss
that Bregman glove more than anybody. Trade him away. Could
be traded, It could be really, it could be a

(01:09:38):
writing things. You know, he's got a couple of years
of arbitration, which makes him trade friendly. That's the reason
why the Cubs made to move He's got three more
years of arbitration. Yeah, but he's also twenty seven. I
think he's an older guy. Okay, I just don't know
if Ezac Parides is a guy that should be considered
a long term Houston astro. He's twenty six. His birthday

(01:09:58):
was six days ago, Happy birthday birthday, So he'll be
twenty nine when he claims free agency. Okay, whatever, it's
still the twenties. It's fine. You see why the players
are trying to get this arbitration stuff out of there?
Oh for sure. Number three. We talked about this on
the show last week. Remember we're talking about how I
think the Texans are gonna be looking for a new stadium.

(01:10:20):
I thought about something over the weekend. I don't think
Harris County you gotta worry about this, Okay. I think
the Texans are gonna find out the best place they
can go find themselves in new stadium is either in
Fort ben or Berzoria County. I think when the dust settles,
I think Harris County is gonna tell the Texans to
shut their bumb asses up. What's gonna happen with the
billion dollars to ode for the energy deal there? It's

(01:10:42):
percessing my point. I think if you just skip on it,
if Harris County is going to help with the stadium,
they're gonna want a significant financial assistance from the owners
of the Texans, I e to McNair's. So if the
Texans and the mcnairs are insistent on not getting a
lot of their own money in the put in the

(01:11:02):
stadium and saying, hey, we're the franchise, we own it,
let's go. I think I think Harris con is going
to tell them to go take a flying lead. Okay,
number four, major League Baseball should come back to ESPN
and say I didn't mean what I said. If I'm MLB,
I take a lower rights deal and I figure out

(01:11:25):
a way to somehow, some way keep a relationship with ESPN.
Now do I explore going to Apple or a further
bigger contract, or explore more games on Fox, or explore
more games maybe with Netflix is trying to get involved
in sports. But I think it would be suicide for
a major sports league to say we don't need you anymore, ESPN.

(01:11:50):
So MLB take your lower rights deal, get your Sunday
Night package, beg and plead for Baseball Tonight. But you
leaving ESPN be league suicide. Don't do it. Resign with ESPN,
even if it's a different package. So the four recaps.
The recap again one. If things go south of the Astros,

(01:12:10):
the Astros should trade Josh Hater, I have a feeling
that esach Praties is not gonna be a long term astro.
Harris County need not worry about a new facility if
the mcnaiers don't want to jump in, because I think
Missouri County or for Ben will step up, and MLB
should go back to ESPN and say, eh, well we
run a break, let's get back together, let's too figure
out something, take a lower rights deal and resign with him.

(01:12:31):
Which one of the four am I not believing? You
believe three of these? Yeah? Oh my god, your typical rudeness,
you and your root scale at you're about a nine
and a half out of ten. Yeah, you're on fire, Matt,
the flaming hot takes. We gotta doubse you with something.
It's part of the segment. It's the hot takeiest thing

(01:12:51):
we do. I don't even know what to say. I
was gonna say, what do you connor? I'm gonna loss.
I think I'm throwing out the middle soon. It's between
one and four. And what he does not believe is, yeah,
three of these four believe you believe three? You believe
three out of four? Yes?

Speaker 12 (01:13:11):
So I think he believes that if they the new
stadium won't be in Harris County. If they do that,
I think he believes the second of you long term
thing with Esak Paratus, it's just between.

Speaker 2 (01:13:22):
One and four. For me, Uh, four band is pretty
far out. I don't even know what to do. These
are band. By the way, four Bean is not that
far out. You can get from downtown to Fourbank County
in twenty five minutes. It's pretty far. But do I
believe that four Bend you'd have to be in sugar Land?

(01:13:48):
Katie is in Harris County. Part of it, yeah, part
of it's in four Band, like Katie Mills Mall is
Fourbank County. God, they're so bad. They're not bad at all.
These are horrible takes. Connor, how bad are these takes?

(01:14:10):
Ross is being a little too harsh? Thank you. I
knew that, Thank you. I don't think he I don't
think you believe four. He's like Paratus isn't going anywhere.
He's under arbitration for three years. By the way, he
was on arbitration for three years of the Cubs and
they traded him. That's true, but he's under arbitration and
a team that's trying to stay under the tax. Uh,

(01:14:33):
I'm gonna go with one. I don't know. I go
with four, Okay. I think cam Smith is gonna inherit
third base here pretty soon, okay. And I put Prads
at second, and they put a bunch of it. They've
they hired this Brendan Rodgers kid, whatever his name is.
And there's other guys. Brendan Rodgers is a camp invite
on a minor league. I'm saying, they're always trying to

(01:14:54):
find people. I just don't think he sucked pratists long
term for the Astros. He's gonna be cheap. He's gonna
hit you like twenty five the thirty home runs. He's
gonna he's gonna be here. Okay, Then then why did
the Cubs get rid of him again? Kyle Tucker, you
already gave him camp Smith, you already gave him. It
was Nesky is starting part of the rotation. I mean,
I'm just telling you. Call me wrong when I'm wrong,

(01:15:16):
call me, but give me my flowers when I'm right.
I don't think east Ock part is is a long
term solution for the Astros. That's number two. I do
believe that Mincnaire's are gonna wise up and spend money
to keep the team in Harris County. But I do
believe that Harris County is not gonna write them a check.

(01:15:37):
That Harris County is, as you just mentioned a couple
of minutes ago, already down to Billy. Yeah. And if
they if they insist on getting lots of public money
for this facility, whatever, if they do decide to go
in this direction, I think you're gonna have to see
them go to Brasoria County or for Montgomery County won't
do it, Waller County doesn't have enough money. You could
definitely put something next to uh Smart Financial. There's room

(01:15:59):
over there and create your megaplex. That's why I brought
up Fort Ben County's a possibility. So yeah, I do
believe that's a pot that there's a chance that the
new Texans Stadium may be outside of Harris County. And
number four, I do believe ESPN. You cannot Major League Baseball.

(01:16:20):
You cannot tell ESPN bye bye. MLB has got to
be an ESPN somehow, some way. If you think You're
already getting no coverage on other networks. Imagine what you're
gonna be like if you rely on FS one for
your Baseball Talk or MLB network, which, by the way,
you know it's a good network, but very few cable
subscribers have it satellite subscribers. So the one I don't

(01:16:43):
believe is the first pitcher I would trade is Josh Hater.
First of all, the owner of this baseball team loves
Josh Hater. Okay, Second of all, at the end of
the day, if he's still closing games for you and
you don't in the windows never closed. According to Jim Crane,
you're not getting ready of your ninth inning guy. Really,
dominant ninth inning guys are hard to find. And third,

(01:17:04):
the first picture I'm training is the guy that will
start opening day for the Astros because he's a free
agent end of this year. I don't think the Astros
are gonna resign him. So number one was the one
I didn't believe. I was right. You were right. Wow,
that was tough. It was tough to see through all
the all the fog of the bad takes, but I

(01:17:26):
saw the one that was kind of I wish you'd
got it right because you had not been nearly as
mean as this man? Am I right? But you know
I was right? He was a specificut shot for me.

Speaker 8 (01:17:34):
All right.

Speaker 2 (01:17:34):
Up next, James and Alvin wants talking about Alex Spragman.
He's upset that he left, poor guy. You know it's upset,
is Alex Bragman not upset at all? He's doing okay,
doing okay, forty million dollars this year and hitting home
runs in Fort Myers. It's just spring training and we're
gonna come back with a song that Connor and his
friends groove two when they want to have romance and

(01:17:55):
his friend what is he and he's having group sex. No,
he's like when they talk about, hey, what do you use?
And you think they're just you think they're discussing this.
I don't see why not discuss this with people? Not lately? No,
I don't use music anything back in then I just
say you want to? She goes sure, so them Valentine's Day.
Maybe after a long road trip. You never know, Okay,

(01:18:16):
all right? Eleven forty three, it's Dave Loggins seven one
three two one two five seven Ninetie The News at
Noon in fifteen minutes here on seven.

Speaker 6 (01:18:24):
Ninety more Matt Thomas Show with Ross Now Sports Talk
seven ninety Here.

Speaker 16 (01:18:32):
Girl, just, I'm so glad you could make it over
tonight so we could get together and make some sour.

Speaker 2 (01:18:43):
Old bread better bacon class. Oh, I'm sorry, go ahead.

Speaker 1 (01:18:51):
Oh, I'm gonna leave the time.

Speaker 2 (01:19:01):
So how effective is there one to ten fifteen? Is
it really?

Speaker 13 (01:19:06):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:19:06):
What do you mean, Matt, you don't like this? I'm
gonna try this. I'm gonna play this song at the
house tonight. We'll see how. I'll report tomorrow. Yeah, but
I mean you're swinging mis rates pretty high though. Man,
we gotta keep that in mind. I'm like Adam Everett
to our previous call Chris Carter, when you get a
hold of one goes out of the park. If I

(01:19:29):
strike out a lot too, I'm like the twenty fifteen
Astros Crush City. I crush it, but then yet I
strike out a meaningful positions. I always said you were
the Kolby Rasmus of love making. Thank Conger, at least
you're in the game. That's true. Kobe did play six
days a week until he kind of lost it. Give

(01:19:50):
you like like an implosion and say like, I don't
need to play anymore. I lost the love of the
game kind of thing. I want to say that it
didn't end well for him Colby, Yeah, uh yeah, I
think he kind of the league kind of retired him early. Right, Yeah,
all right, let's go back on the phones. It is
eleven and fifty on the Matt Thomas Show. The name

(01:20:10):
of that group again is I can try this at home.
It's Silk Sonic. It's Anderson Pack and Bruno Mars. Oh
really okay, it's Silk Sonic, Silk Sonic. Okay, Silk put
the whole album on, Mattie, You'll be doing just fine. Really, okay,
I'll let y'all know. I'll let you all through social
media circles. Now we don't need to know, all right,
I'll let you on them a on ten o'clock. Okay,

(01:20:31):
let's go to James and Alvin at eleven fifty one
on the Matt Thomas Show. James, good morning, Good.

Speaker 17 (01:20:38):
Morning, Matt, thank you for accepting my call. You need
to take his advice, Matt. You you you can learn somethings.

Speaker 3 (01:20:45):
Listen.

Speaker 17 (01:20:45):
I'm really upset inside and said about Addi Breadman because
he one of the most iconic after least in his
prime to be let go or not the team owner
read insert him into his payroll. What I wanted to

(01:21:10):
say is this, he's the best third baseman in baseball,
is why not the front office didn't say? Why didn't
the front office say, hey, if you're not doing five
or six years, since you don't do long term contracts,
why they couldn't come up with the contract Boston gave it.
And then on top of that, when they gave Josh

(01:21:31):
Hayter that contract ninety five mil for five years, he's
a closer, and Alex Breckman and Carl Tucker probably looked
at each other and say, oh, yeah, if we don't
get what we want, I'm out of here.

Speaker 7 (01:21:47):
Now.

Speaker 17 (01:21:47):
Let me say this here, Josh Hayden will not have
thirty five quality save opportunities because the lineup.

Speaker 2 (01:22:00):
Wait, James, James, I love you. You're telling me there's not
gonna be thirty five opportunities to save games. You're thinking
the Astros are gonna finish like thirty and one thirty two.
Maybe they'll be blowing everyone out. Oh that's actually true, James.
Maybe you're maybe your glasses half full, maybe you got
this team going one hundred and sixty two with like
seventy five games within four runs.

Speaker 17 (01:22:19):
Well, listen, man, you got to have the lead for
you to bring your clothes in to close out the game.
That not gonna happen because you don't have you missing
your you're missing your run production out of right field.
You're missing your run production.

Speaker 2 (01:22:32):
Out of third base.

Speaker 17 (01:22:35):
East Outh Parade is as a journeyman. Uhumcomet. I mean
he's a major leaguer, but he's no Pole Tucker.

Speaker 2 (01:22:45):
Now you tell me where we get the runs.

Speaker 17 (01:22:47):
There, you're done. Operators gonna lead the league in walks,
intentional walks. Nobody gonna pitch to him. Let me let
me tell you that.

Speaker 3 (01:23:00):
Here.

Speaker 17 (01:23:00):
You look at the lineup the pictures, the opposing pitchers
gonna say, oh man, this this barbecue chicken.

Speaker 2 (01:23:09):
Yeah, who's barbecue chicken? The Astros lineup, Astros line is
barbecue chicken.

Speaker 17 (01:23:14):
They gonna eat him up. The opponent pitcher's gonna eat
him up.

Speaker 2 (01:23:18):
What if it's a fatty brisket.

Speaker 17 (01:23:20):
They'll eat it up anything. Hey, listen, Matt, you're gonna
pitch the ab too, Bab You'll pitch to uh the
new first baseman. After that, you don't pitch the averred. Hey,
pole Tucker was hurt and the league when they found

(01:23:42):
out that pole Tucker was no longer your don Ava
red security blanket.

Speaker 3 (01:23:50):
Guess what, they walked him.

Speaker 17 (01:23:51):
A bro They walked, they they walked. Look at the stats.
He was out two much. He was out too much?

Speaker 2 (01:24:00):
Wait all right? Can we be down with this? Hey, James,
I get you. I'm gonna let you go because I
got a lot of folks that want to get behind you. There,
my friend. Hey, James, never be afraid to call the show,
and I always I love accepting your phone call. Do
I agree with it very much? No? But I do
love it. James, your On, Alvarez, Christian Walker, Ironer, Diaz,
Essek Parades, Jeremy Panna, you've got a top one. You

(01:24:22):
got a pretty solid one through six One, six is fine,
seven eight, nine could be a hot mess. And I
we're not arguing that McCormick will see dubon McCormick, dubon Myers.
Not a lot of a lot of slut bear, Although
if McCormick does what he a couple of years ago,
you'd be satisfied him with his as a seventh hitter.
Let's get Jake in there. We tried to remember we

(01:24:43):
had that, we had the Jake Myers fan club. Me
this week, he said, he's gonna be more consistent. You
gonna draw some walks. They're gonna put presure on him.
Let me tell you, just gonna bat ninth and draw
walks to put it be a table center for jose
L two bag. I got zero problem with that. Yeah,
we'll see how much that happens. I think James and
Albage just gave everybody a lot of doom and gloom.
Yes he did. You're you're hoping for a top ten

(01:25:07):
ish And by the way, just to be honest, here
the other teams that were very interested. That would be
the Detroit Tigers, the Chicago Cubs, the Houston Astros, the Yankees.
To a smaller extent, nobody ever said we're going to
give Alex Bruckman forty million dollars a year. The highest
number was the Detroit Tigers at six years one seven.
Mike math tells me that's not even thirty million, twenty

(01:25:28):
and a half. Yeah, they bought high to price everybody
out and said, you know what, we're willing to do
this for three years. And remember if Bregman, if Brugman slugs,
he can always say bye goodbye, and we're going to renegotiate.
I don't think that's going to happen. I think he's
going to at least play the two of the three

(01:25:50):
years of that contract. Let me get to before the
top of the hour, will a memorial at eleven fifty
six on seven hoey Will good morning.

Speaker 4 (01:25:58):
Hey guys, how you doing good?

Speaker 2 (01:26:00):
The rockets for a second hit?

Speaker 4 (01:26:01):
Sure, So I'm reading last night.

Speaker 8 (01:26:04):
It's article I don't know if you, I can't give
credit to the author, but it was about Luka Dancik
and supposedly Lucas go sign the max contract.

Speaker 2 (01:26:13):
But I don't think it's this year.

Speaker 8 (01:26:14):
But I think it's next year. And that's one of
the reasons they say that Dallas kind of gave me
this Walker dapers but.

Speaker 4 (01:26:20):
Freddy is due what forty three this year?

Speaker 2 (01:26:23):
Yes? On an option, Yes, it's a team options, team option,
I know, hold on, hold on, let's let's make let's
double check on that. There's some player option team options
with different players, so let's make sure we get it
right before the time. But finish your point please.

Speaker 8 (01:26:36):
Okay, So the point is this. This guy wrote that
when time for Luca to signed his max contract, Luca
may consider coming to Houston.

Speaker 4 (01:26:45):
And here's his thought process.

Speaker 8 (01:26:47):
If you're Luca and people, if people couldn't forget Luca's
only like twenty five or twenty six, he would be
with a perfect team to give him a run winning
major championships.

Speaker 4 (01:27:00):
That's what I read last night.

Speaker 8 (01:27:01):
I don't know if you guys read that. I like
to talk about it.

Speaker 2 (01:27:04):
Yeah, I'd like to hear who wrote that. If you
could find that will because it ain't happening to me.
There's no way. I don't not going to leave the
Los Angeles Lakers to sign here. Let's just I mean,
I would love it, not living Yeah, I mean I
would love it. And by the way, I think you're right.
It is a team option. For right, it is a
team you're trying to call. You're trying to call me honest, Okay,
I mean, look, we all make mistakes. I mean one

(01:27:25):
on Friday. I don't make miss one on Frindy.

Speaker 8 (01:27:28):
I think for a second, of course, let's go my
rock and red glasses are on.

Speaker 2 (01:27:34):
I'm be all for that. Well, but we are doing
realities here. Yeah, I mean, I believe at some point
that supermodelmost come living me the last ten years of
my life, that happened.

Speaker 8 (01:27:42):
Oh by the way, Matt tonight, Oh for the.

Speaker 2 (01:27:48):
Wind, will that is for the wind. We'll turn off,
all right, see you later. Yeah, I mean, let me,
let me, let me pivot a little bit off of
what will said.

Speaker 12 (01:28:01):
Do.

Speaker 2 (01:28:01):
I believe a superstar, that the that we're not thinking
about right now could be a rocket in three years.
I believe this has become a because of Ima Adoka
and the young core, and how this team has rapidly
improved themselves because of a cover strip club scene and
the no income text, and in the great strip club
scene will be a spot for free agents who once

(01:28:25):
again become a desirable place. Now is it ever gonna
be desirable as la New York, Chicago, Miami? No chance
in hell. But if you're gonna put that next group
of teams, that second tier group, I think the Rockets
are going to be back on the top of that
list where they had fallen off obviously the last few years.
Lucas a rocket, A man can dream, but I think

(01:28:46):
that's what it is. A dream k captain leaving justin
Verlondar for me, A man can dream. Good thing. You're
happily married, thankfully playing Teddy Panagrass tonight in about six
hoh five, Wow, Goeta heat sick, Okay, desert at six
y ten and then you sleep by six on nine.

(01:29:07):
The News at New is up.

Speaker 1 (01:29:08):
Next, lunchtimers. This is the Matt Thomas Show twelve.

Speaker 2 (01:29:16):
Three on Sports Talk seven ninety. It is the Matt
Thomas Show with Ross. We don't leave with the NBA.
We won't, but I just want to put this in there.
I just saw this. The Lakers are six and two
since Luka Doncic signed with them the trade, Wow, and
Jimmy Butler since joined. The Warriors are five and one,
so the West is even tougher. That's fantastic, just great.

(01:29:39):
You know, we need some to give us a little
bit of an edge, a little more, a few smiles.

Speaker 4 (01:29:42):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (01:29:43):
We present to you the News at noon and the
news desk we go a man who works tirelessly, feverishly,
oh my gosh, chasing down stories like nobody's business.

Speaker 3 (01:29:57):
Matt.

Speaker 2 (01:29:58):
We present to you Sports Harvey Astros starting Grapefruit League action.
Over the weekend in a split squad. On Saturday, they
lost both games to the Nationals and the New York Mets.
But yesterday against the Saint Louis Codinals, they were able
to get a victory.

Speaker 18 (01:30:18):
Yeah, I know you wanted to my Phil Robertson family
when sim took up one to one at whitm lines.
This one in the left field. That's a base hit
over toward the line around third DS he will score.
In the second goes to Simzo and RBI single for
Shay Whitcomb. That's sixth straight two out hits for the Astros,
who lead four to two.

Speaker 2 (01:30:37):
Astros with some big run production in the fourth and seventh, Matt,
your thoughts on a couple of hits in a couple
of runs bat in for Zach Dezenzo. It's more competition
for left field guys built the granted. Let me tell
you something. You want to get a tag team champions
together to knock out the road wearers. May they rest
in peace. I'm going Zach Decenzo and Cam Smith for
the wins. Zero body fat over the corpses. Yes well.

(01:31:00):
Also coming out of spring training, Man has been a
number of injuries and or injury up dates. Lance mccullor's
junior cleared for live batting practice as he got through
the bullpen session today with no issues. Should be throwing
one this weekend, reportedly hitting eighty nine to ninety one
on the gun and looking for some live action. You

(01:31:22):
also have Caleb Ort doing some throwing in the batting
cage off a screen. He is day to day with
his oblique issue pedro leone, undergoing an MRI as he
injured a knee sliding into second Sean Dubin reported shoulder discomfort.
There's that, Dan, we're discomforting in play. Well. Then, as
you mentioned, Taylor Troummel with the right calf strain, which

(01:31:46):
apparently is pretty significant. He's in a boot. According to
one bron mctagget. Do you think the boot really works
in life? You know people that put the boot in
and then take on going. Man, I feel hundredercent better now.
I feel like it's like a temporary You're on a
walking boot for a while. Yeah, but it was didn't
really help. It didn't help you think though you think
you would have been better off without the walking boat. No,
I'm not saying I'm saying that it's not. It's not

(01:32:08):
a one hundred percent healer. Hmm yeah, Matt, there's not.
It's not like there's magic powers in the boot. There
was in your legs. Straight. I hated that boot. My god,
you okay, Like, I'm fine. You're questioning the entire orthopedic
industry in this boot that they use. You're so ridiculous.
I mean I am. I am a sports physician specialist.

(01:32:30):
I swear you know what if orthopedist wants to call
and tell Matt Thomas to shut his bum ass up
about the walking boot, all right, So if you're an
orthopedic surgeon or any sort of doctor, tell us how
how the boot, how much the boot? I think the
boot helps it. Everybody wears one. They should, Yeah, they
should sprinkle some magic powder and those bad boys. Also, Matt,
news that actually isn't news. We had the caller saying

(01:32:52):
he saw a report and look, it's not your fault, folks,
But we really have to stress this. Click on the
link you're looking at and then try to do a
little bit digging because it's happening with the sporting news.
It's happening with sports illustrated. People are making literally making
up fake news, posting it all over the place, and
it's not real. The Rockets going to going to pursue

(01:33:15):
Luka Doncis next summer, are a possible favorite of a
landing spot. It's not real. Thank you to mr JLF
on Twitter sending the link. This is the headline Lakers
Luka Doncic predicted to leave Los Angeles for Rockets next summer.

(01:33:36):
Some guy on a blog listed the Rockets as a
possible landing spot if Luka Doncic doesn't sign with the
Lakers's that's just completely misleading and a lie. Luka Doncis
is not going to the Rockets. Again, it's not your
fault because everybody's going for these clicks. But it's not

(01:33:57):
real news. So on the news at noon, we have
to bring you the face news that is going out there. Yep.
By the way, shout out to m r j LF
for sending that to us. Yes, doesn't follow me, so okay,
well I didn't check if he follows me, it doesn't matter.
He does follow you, that's say Actually even better now
you probably blocked him follow me. Guess what, I don't care.

(01:34:18):
We'll follow us. M R j L Minam Jr. Left
you do whatever you want to do with your time.
I don't want to follow us. It doesn't matter. Let
me tell you follow us, you're let me tell your
cholestero is gonna go down, You're gonna make more friends,
false promises, and uh, your gas will be forced and
cheaper tomorrow. We're going. Yeah, somebody from fan sided, a
random blogger put this on a fan sided blog. Then

(01:34:38):
Sporting News picks it up, then they put it out
there for everyone. This is ridiculous. This has to stop. No,
I'm upset. I can't even do the rest of You're
editorializing on something. You're a news reader, You're not an
editorial Sorry, here's some more news. The Rockets that the're
as kicked foally short of made court. Collier picks it up,
seven point game two five, Colliers straight away out, left

(01:35:02):
side catching shoot. Marketing three got it oh Man, Lauren
marketed just two and nine from three, but that might
be the dagger. Laurie Marketing, who of nine from three,
the seven time Finnish basketball Player of the Year. Laurie

(01:35:24):
Marketing destroying the Houston Rockets. Well, he not destroyed. He
missed seven threes, of course. Inside the ocky was like,
he hit twenty three points in nineteen shots, ten rebounds.
Pretty good. Kante George really destroyed the rocket points? Yng
Who Kiante George is something if somebody walked in the
room and said, I'm Kanty George, what would you say back? Hi,

(01:35:45):
Devin George's son. No, it's like, Kanty, what do you
do for a living? Went to Baylor? That's great? Good
for him. Well, County George dropped thirty against your Houston
Rockets matts as the Utah ja As went on to
defeat the Houston Rockets. Now, you said they lost seven
out of their last ten. I choose to say they've

(01:36:06):
won three of their last five. You know what I meant?
Those are true, But I'm telling you three of those
seven losses, two are to Brooklyn and one is to Utah.
Anybody got time for that?

Speaker 8 (01:36:16):
No?

Speaker 2 (01:36:17):
Not great Milwaukee coming into the building. So they're off
today and yesterday, but they do have basically three sets
of back to back. They're playing in a row Tuesday
at home against the Milwaukee Bucks. Wednesday on ESPN against
the stan Antonio Spurs. By the way, still at eight

(01:36:37):
thirty stars. Yes, the NBA to be ashamed himselves. I've
rang the arena last. On Friday night. We were all yawning.
I saw you from the cross the way you were yawning.
We're tired. Yeah, keeper playing his eight to forty game start.

Speaker 12 (01:36:48):
What is that?

Speaker 2 (01:36:48):
What's up with that? I'll tell you. I was doing
the postgame show. We started at like eleven forty five.
My reminder to go to sleep went off on my
watch at twelve fifteen. How are the calls? I'll be honest,
you know, let's lie it's easier. Oh, we had sixteen
calls full boards Stasi. I just talked to myself. I'm

(01:37:10):
monologed for about twelve minutes. We took a break. I'm
monologued for like six more minutes. We played some postgame
audio and I got out. Nobody wants to talk basketball
at midnight. It's for dudulous ESPN. I hate you for that.
I'll be on Tuesday Wednesday. If you guys want to
call the Rockets are at program, you're unsports. I'm gonna
call you Wednesday night because I feel I'll feel bad
for you. No, I think somebody will call it Wednesday night. Yeah,

(01:37:32):
I might be a little lean. Oh, they're playing Santurna.
I got a good chance to win that. Yeah, Tuesday night.
I feel like we'll get some calls. It'll be earlier. Okay,
great good. We appreciate you people. One non news note,
Lester Holt is going to give up the NBC Nightly News.
Really he's resigning? Is that is the anchor that show?
Who even watches the nightly news anymore? I don't watch it?

(01:37:53):
I'm sorry unfortunately. Uh yeah, And Matt, as you mentioned earlier,
actually shed were Sander is not working out at the NFL.
Combine your thoughts. Why did you go these combines anymore?
I mean, isn't is it? I mean, our first round
pick's even bothering with combines? Actually, I have some really
great news for you.

Speaker 8 (01:38:11):
Matt.

Speaker 2 (01:38:11):
What for the first time in twenty one years, sitting
atop the Associated Press top twenty five, you were Lady Longhorns.
How do you not bring up the Cougars with the
big win against Iowas State on Saturday? Because the Lady
Longhorns are number one? Our Cougars aren't number one. Nobody
cares what the Lady Longhorn you mean, baby, I ain't

(01:38:32):
selling the movie. Hell, the games they're going huge. No,
they're they You get you buy one ticket, you get
nine free is up baby in the final four. That's
because your basketball team, your guys suck. Yeah, they're terrible.
So this weekend they got their ask kicked by South Carolina.
Rodney Terry, Rodney Terry is hanging by a thread. They
lost to South Carolina. Are you still the first four

(01:38:53):
last four in I don't know anymore. It's like a bracketology. Yeah,
that wasn't good for the bracketology. I lost to South Carolina.
By the way Cougar's play the Red Raiders tonight, the
Thomas family is definitely split. That would be in Lubbock, correct, Yes,
people are already waiting outside intents for the the game.
That's what do when u H comes to town. You
wait outside of the tents. There's nothing else to do

(01:39:14):
with Lubbock US, so they're going to do tend to
their tumbleweeds. You know, I love Lubbock, I do, I know?

Speaker 3 (01:39:19):
You do?

Speaker 2 (01:39:19):
You know what you should start calling me, mister Texans.
You haven't been back since your son left there, So
that's how much that's not true. I've been not back
for U AGE game. He was already graduated. I love
Lubbock and I love Galveston. You were working. You haven't
been back in a non work capacity since your son
to go there. But you're the one that said, if
you love it and it's so wonderful and it's such
a great town, you go back. You know what, I'm

(01:39:41):
gonna go on a flight today. I'm gonna leave right now,
go catch up the game tonight. Afford that, and it's
kind of expensive. I love Lubbock, I love Galveston. I
love all of a sud of Texas except Bay City.
Y'all strange ass. In Baytown y'all crazy ass too up there.
We hate on Baytown the whole state. We don't even
count Baytown as a part of the state. Not true. Yeah,
we love our people at Baytown and that the rookies

(01:40:04):
at the Rookie the Rookies is not bad and make
us a good cash out there. And the back of
Meryl's not bad either. The what the back of Meryl?
If you're wanting a little breakfast at four point thirty
after you said the bad Camaro, No, that did that too,
all right? Taylor in Midtown wants to talk about walking
boots and we'll give you an update of what Jim
Crane had to say over the weekend in Florida, twelve

(01:40:25):
fourteen of the Matt Thomas Show, NFL rewind in fifteen
minutes on seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (01:40:30):
Back to Matt.

Speaker 6 (01:40:31):
Thomas and Ross via Reale on Sports Talk seven ninety
Liam Halla sit.

Speaker 2 (01:40:39):
Down twelve nineteen. Sports Talk seven ninety is a Matt
Thomas show with Ross seven one three two one two
five seven ninety NFL rewind Coming up in about ten minutes,
We're gonna hear from Jim Crane, who spoke during the
astros broadcast over the weekend, and maybe you didn't want

(01:40:59):
to get chance to catch that, so we'll hear a
few things from what the owner of the Astro has
had to say. Wonderful doesn't do a model loot of
speaking anymore. Mm hmm. I don't know if I owned
a team, I'm the greatest PR director I can find, right,
especially because Jim is not bad behind the microphone. I
mean maybe he's been kind of told us that mean,

(01:41:20):
like cow can't speak in from the microphone because it's
usually a hot mess. Yes, Tilman has lived his life
in front of a microphone. I don't think Jim is
bad in front of it. Wish you do more. Wish
he's an you know, and the astros know he's gonna
open invitation of this radio show. We'd ask poignant questions
if be respectful. We had him on an opening day
a few years ago. We're not a gotcha kind of
guy cruise show, are you really? No, I'm just kidding.

(01:41:44):
Ain't gonna try to back him into the corner. No, No, nice,
because again, if you do that, then you'll never get
those guys on. And sometimes they do have something. You
can ask tough questions, but be respectful. Yes, I wish
everybody learned that. Well not everybody had learned that. No,
that's okay. Taylor in Midtown on twelve twenty on seven,
Hello Taylor.

Speaker 3 (01:42:04):
Hey guys, good afternoon. Harry ellis Monday.

Speaker 2 (01:42:06):
Excellent for calling.

Speaker 3 (01:42:09):
Yeah, so, boots man, I cracked my ankle, like I
don't know, a couple of years ago. It's a minor
like one, you know, like it wasn't like a like
a full cacao this location sort of thing, and uh yeah,
they put me in that boot and it was horrible
and my wife was super pissed. Because we had a
Disney trip out to la like a show at the

(01:42:31):
Hollywood Bowl and a Disney trip and uh, and it
got us in front of every line we stood in
down there. It was amazing.

Speaker 2 (01:42:38):
Oh wait, you scammer, that's what you used a boot
to get it get an advantage.

Speaker 3 (01:42:45):
Well, at full disclosure, I did have a broken ankle,
although I did take it off by the end of
the you still have to walk a little bit with it,
and the uh, you know, the thing squeezes your shin
so tight you end up like with a bruise around
your upper shin. But it it worked because we had
a trip to Peru about eight weeks after that and
the whole they allowed me to heal and go down

(01:43:07):
to Peru and mountain bike and hike, can do stuff.
So yeah, they work, all right. It's you know, I
don't know, it's you know what I in Silver's eyes
here in the home of the call of your home
for that very reason.

Speaker 2 (01:43:18):
Let me tell you, let me, let me tell you
what I got out of this phone call. But that
if you want to get the fast pass for free,
put a walking boot on as you walk into Disneyland
and they'll give it to you. You scammed this day.

Speaker 3 (01:43:30):
They didn't give it to us. Wait wait, wait, they
didn't give us anything. It's Nicky's gonna get his money.
Mickey and the crew's there. We still did get to
skip a lot of lines. It was pretty dope. So anyway,
have a great day.

Speaker 2 (01:43:44):
Thank you, ton, nice to hear from you. You scam. Actually,
I respect the game. I would do that. I would
do that hard come a scammer. He had a broken ankle.
I got a boot at the house. We'll put it on.
What can I where can I go to take advantage
of the boot? M hmmm, I don't know. I'll think
about that for a little bit. I also want to
think about what Jim Crane had to say on Astro's

(01:44:05):
radio over the weekend, of course exclusively here on Sports
Talk at seven ninety. So let's get to the number
one question. And I don't know how these interviews it
started in finished. I didn't hear it myself, but it
is worthy of listening to hear Jim first of all,
speak about Alex Bregman and then deciding to go to
in other directions to fill the roster needs.

Speaker 5 (01:44:28):
We felt we made a pretty good offer to Alex,
it didn't work out.

Speaker 2 (01:44:32):
You know, we had to move on.

Speaker 5 (01:44:33):
You wait too long and a lot of these players
disappear right, so, you know, sometimes it's a tough decision.
But having a little experience like he does, and I've
seen it happen, you know a few times with us before.
You can't sit around on your hands. You gotta go right.
And I think we really turned out some pretty good trades.

Speaker 2 (01:44:51):
And I think that's exactly what Dana Brown. They're in
sync and what Jim said. We can't wait until the
very last second and not be prepared for the third
base spot if DV left and go somewhere else. Yeah,
and you've got to make up for what Alex brought
in aggregate, and you I think they did that with
Christian Walker and essych Pratus. All Right. One thing that's
always asked, and I think I don't know, I've not

(01:45:12):
heard this, but I think Jim, when it comes down
to the important position, the important players, the franchise movers,
he's very involved in the players as compared to you know,
signing guys that are maybe second tier guys or just
kind of part time players. Here is a Jim's response
to when he was asked about how he involved he
is in stigning actual.

Speaker 5 (01:45:32):
Players sometimes, Yeah, I mean I'm in their meetings frequently.
I think, you know, the core that Dana has put together,
you know they they kind of put put the options
in front of everybody, and you know, the decisions get made.
I mean you it's Dana's got the final call. So

(01:45:53):
you know he's on the line, and we try to
help him any way we can, whether it's financially or
you know, the analytics guys. I mean, he looks at everything.
I think he's done a good job. But he he's
a big time scout or used to be, still is,
and you know he makes good decisions.

Speaker 2 (01:46:09):
I get that mono league system up though, probably because
every time that you want to see the Astros move
up the list, they're trading prospects away. Here's when it's
very interesting. Let's let's we're not doing what's talking about
Jim Crane here brot. Let's guess you and I guess,
and see who's ChRI It's thirty nine seconds. It's what
fans say to him around town. I'm going to say

(01:46:31):
that if you're a fan of the Astros and Jim
Crane walks in your direction, or you guys are waiting
in the line to go to the bathroom, or you're
at the at the DMV, or you're in the a
at a raw Rucks getting a coffee. Jim can't wait
for the season, excited about, you know, getting back to

(01:46:51):
our winning ways. I want to get back to the
World Series. I want to be able to sign our
players long term. I'm still very excited. I know change
is always part of business, but man, I can't wait
to can't wait to be out there for opening back.
That's what I think he's gonna say. What do you
think he's going to say? I think he's gonna say, Jim,
you cheapskate, why are you letting all these players go?

(01:47:11):
You've got to sign some more people. I mean, this
is getting ridiculous and we don't want to be fans
of your team anymore, all right. I believe that you're
going to lose this competition. Here is Jim Crane thirty
nine seconds on what fans say to him around town.

Speaker 5 (01:47:22):
Well, people always question, you know you want to you know,
nobody wants to part with any of the you know,
some of our players that have been there for a while,
but you know, what you've learned is you're going to
eventually have to make some moves. And I think people,
you know, we've gained their confidence, so I think they
give us a little confidence. And you know, most of
the people are very you know, curious at what's going

(01:47:42):
to happen, but once you do it, they understand it
and they just move forward. And you know, you know,
we're we're selling more tickets than we did last year
season tickets, So I guess they like some of the
stuff that's going on. But you know, we we're excited
about it. And I think you know, fans are very
positive and supportive in Houston. Without the fans, you know,
we wouldn't be much.

Speaker 3 (01:48:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:48:04):
Is that all the right things right? Absolutely? Yeah? And
then lastly, expectationally regular fans is he talking to I
would say more than you think. Okay, I mean, do
I think that does? He goes to the drive through
to get his coffee, probably so he could be something.
He could be the Barisa he's speaking to. Breisa doesn't
recognize Jim Crane. The average Barisa is not recognizing Jim Crane.

(01:48:27):
Are you serotyping Barisa's No, I think you are, wouldn't
You are flat out young, So you're saying that there
are no young forts, fan tattoos, gauged ears, and very
paying attention to what Jim Crane's doing. Expectations for twenty

(01:48:53):
twenty five.

Speaker 5 (01:48:54):
I think Dana did a great job. You know, I
really think the trade he made with Chicago to get
three quality players for one guy that you know we
may or may not been able to extend, really put
some depth in the lineup. More pitching. You always need
more pitching. Speaking, mister Sparks here knows that. So I
think we're gonna dapt Well. I think uh parades bats

(01:49:16):
plays well at third and uh, you know hit, he'll
hit a bunch of home runs. He's a big pole hitter.
And you know, Walker is a big upgrade with the
club at first and a bat. You know, from what
we had last year. We kind of shifting every ride
of you around in there. So I really like the
moves and I think we've got him a good ball
club and you know, hopefully win the division and go
from there.

Speaker 2 (01:49:33):
The Singleton family does not appreciate the big upgrade at
first Well, uh got live in the real world. But
John Singleton's also in the best shape of his life.
I looked at him, I didn't think anything different. You
look a leaner and meaner. He's looking writ are you
Are you serious? Ill man? I didn't stare up his
body up and down. Not didn't stare either, madding it's

(01:49:55):
not gonna get the binoculars out. I would hope that
NFL rewind is next Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 1 (01:50:02):
Night Lunchtimers, Lunchtimers.

Speaker 6 (01:50:06):
It's a Matt Thomas Show with Ross on Sports Talk
seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (01:50:18):
It is a Tuesday staple of the Matt Thomas Show
with Ross. But because tomorrow we have a shorter show,
and we didn't do it last week as we were
in middle of spring training coverage. There's a lot of
NFL to rewind, and we do that after I tell
you that rock Tex STRO twenty one says a sports
MT A less than ethical person could use the boot
to get access to one of those preferred parking places

(01:50:42):
my handicap. Don't you need the placard? Yeah? But if
you if you come, if you get to the parking
area at a said location and you open your car
door and you say I'm in a boot, declare it well?
Nobody's there. I am in a walking boot, like screaming
into like to the UH speaker, that's a I generated

(01:51:04):
You've got no chance. I never used my boot to
my advantage. I walked in and count of an airport.
Want a damn boot? You could have got one of
those golf carts where they beep it everyone, but they
want a big tip and they're kind of rude. You
tip them, you don't. I've never been on you absolutely
have to tip on this people. I'm not a handicapped individual.
I've never been on one. But what if you're what

(01:51:25):
if you got to get to thirty games in four minutes?
You get on that thing and you go, we gott
a race over. What do you mean with carrying two
bags you can't move to have to win? Matt, I'm
running fast than that thing. You break wins what you
do sometimes, ladies and gentlemen, here is the ross with
the NFL. Rewind Yes, Matthew, Well, we're gonna go ahead
and talk about what a lot of the NFL world

(01:51:45):
is fixated on. Unfortunately ste Smith's text. No, Matt, we're
not breaking down Steve Smith's text. We're not using that
those three letters that you love so much, and we're
not talking about rearranging or refurbishing, reconfiguring. Are you okay?

(01:52:06):
Aren't you? I don't want you to choke on your chicken.
I mean, my god, it's Steve Smith. What is wrong
with you? What is wrong with her? What is wrong
with you? Both of them? All right? Anyways, Well, apparently
it is a caught like wildfire on Twitter, the outrage
echo chamber, as Mike Florio has called it, with the

(01:52:28):
Eagles supposedly planning to skip their White House visit. I
will let everyone know that there has been no official announcement.
At least according to this report from Mike Florio, the
Eagles have issued no statement or comment on the situation.
Per the team that will not be commenting on whether
or not they will be going to the White House

(01:52:48):
following their Super Bowl victory, Klay Travis says there's been
no invite at all. So at this point, as I've
said this five years ago and I'll repeat it once
per year, I don't care whose the president is. You
get a chance to go to the White House and
meet the president, the leader of the free world, whether
you agree with him or disagree with him. I think
you go peer in industry, yes, and I would also

(01:53:10):
say if you wanted to climb, I don't care either.
But that's just me, all right, man, Let's keep it
moving on the NFL rewind some news coming out of
the NFL Combine or news about who is not going
to work out. We mentioned that Shador Sanders will not
be working out at the NFL Combine. Also news coming

(01:53:33):
out Ashton Jenti or genty as it were, the Boise
State running back. A lot of people have him in
their top five in terms of talent. Of course, because
of the position, he might not go into the top five.
Five nine two hundred and fifteen pounds will not appear
at the combine. Now this kind of does matter because
people do want to see official height and weight, especially

(01:53:58):
on him, and then of course the forty time for
running back important as well. To me, a combine is
mid to late round guys trying to get themselves up
in the draft. If I'm a first second round guy,
I'm very careful what I do and what I say,
and more important what I do. If you're a no
doubt about it first round guy, for sure. But there
are people who are thought of as like second round

(01:54:20):
talents who can run well and contest well and can
run themselves up. Clearly, Ashton Genty not concerned about that
he will not be appearing at the NFL combine. Stop
all right, Matt Well. A couple of outlets have been

(01:54:40):
putting out their top free agent lists, including ESPN and
you're good friends over at Pro Football Focus. The number
one free agent in all of football, T Higgins. You
also have a projected contract put out by Pro Football Focus.
They have TA Higg with a projected contract of four years,

(01:55:04):
one hundred and twenty million dollars. There goes my Texans
T Higgins moment talked about him as a Houston Texan
space not there. The Texans could conjure some up with
some restructuring on contracts, but that sounds like quite the
hefty price tag for T Higgins, Matt, all things being equal,
even if you had the cap space, would you want

(01:55:25):
the Texans to sign T. Higgins to a four year,
one hundred and twenty million dollar deal? Do I love
T Higgins a player? Yes? Do I love him at
thirty million dollars a price tag with already the money
that I'm spending on eqal Collins. What was your favorite?
T Higgins almost as a Texan moment? So no, so
it's not going to happen, all right, Matt?

Speaker 1 (01:55:47):
Moving along?

Speaker 2 (01:55:47):
Speaking of Pro Football Focus, they put out their list
of the top one hundred and one players in the NFL.
Can you guess how many Houston Texans appeared on this list? Stingley?
Stingley is correct? Tunsall. Tunsall is correct, even though you
hate him. Yeah, well, the city of Houston hates him too.

(01:56:10):
You haven't mentioned the highest ranked Houston Texanios Collins. That
is correct, And I'm gonna say we're done. Will Anderson
and Daniel Hunter on Neil Hunters on the list? Yeah,
why not?

Speaker 7 (01:56:23):
C J.

Speaker 2 (01:56:23):
Stroud not on the list? C J. Stroud not on
the list, That is correct. Nico Collins comes in at
number twenty five, just to just behind Justin Jefferson. All right,
so do me if this favor. Let's go through the
quarterbacks that are on the list that CJ did not
make and would you rather have that quarterback or CJ? Okay,

(01:56:45):
let's start at the very top. The highest rated quarterback
on this list is number one, Lamar Jackson. Then you
go to number four, Joe Burrow. We didn't need to
keep going, Joe Burrow, number six, Josh Allen, keep going.
I'm scrolling number twenty, Jayden Daniels, Jake we've talked about

(01:57:07):
one two three, Jane Daniels are c J. Stroud one
two three See Daniels, see the shroud Daniels, see this
shrup Danielson. Herbert is on this list ahead of c J.
Stroud Herbert or CJ one two three Droud Stroud Come
on now? They got Pat Mahomes thirty nine. Hey, Rossie,
I was blown away by Jane Daniels this year. I

(01:57:29):
mean just but again, some more slump's happen. Everybody was
down away J two. But I think Daniel's rookie year
was better than CJ's rookie year, and certainly they went
further in the playoffs. So you want to go by
that depends on how you want to look at it.
That's true. But I'm sticking. I'm sticking with Herbert and
Herbert in the list and CJ's not. That's that's a

(01:57:50):
misstep by that group. They got Baker Mayfield on this
list ahead of c J. Show Way is just based
This is based on ratings of players, the ratings, and
then they have the Super Bowl champion Jalen Hurts on
this list as well, Matthew Hertz or Stroud one two
three Stroud, Well, I'm sorry I got choked up. One

(01:58:12):
two three super Bowl champ Man. That was a reloaded roster.
It is a loaded Rostern Philly answer my question you're making,
you're making you're having to think about this. Earnest is tough. Okay,
I'm gonna go with CJ. Stroud as am I Oh close?
Ugh if you won forty nine? Oh all right, anyways, Uh,

(01:58:34):
let's keep going.

Speaker 4 (01:58:36):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:58:36):
The Rams have let Matt Stafford's agent talk to teams
and gauge value around the NFL. Some people think that
Matthew Stafford's value could be over fifty million dollars a year.
Man the number one team that is being talked about
for him. Do you know this answer that the Las

(01:58:57):
Vegas Raiders know the Pittsburgh ste Oh yeah, the Steelers
they need a quarterback back if they got Matt Stafford.
And you know, well, as long as George Pickens could
keep his head on straight. But does he even care
for guys insanely talented as he is he looks like
talking about George Pickens. George Pickens goose. I can give
two blanks half the time. I'm with you, I understand, okay,

(01:59:18):
and that's your NFL rewind all right, thank you Vermins,
that was excellent. Thank you Matt by the way, friend
of the show. I'll keep his name out my mouth
for this segment. Okay. Just texted me and said that, oh,
there was one other thing I wanted to get to
but I forgot look ahead that he used his son's
boot when his son was wearing a boot to get

(01:59:40):
Group one on Schminded Airlines last year. Uh, okay, I
think this boot thing is a bit uh. I'm gonna
say one thing, yes, and then we can move on.
You people are scumbags, you hear that. Sorry, you know
this guy if you're if you're stealing boots, if you're
stealing boots to get in group one, shame on you.

(02:00:02):
His No, he does no. I know his son, his
son was in a boot at the time. But if
he used the boot to his Group one advantage and
he was totally fine and completely healthy, I know, I
don't believe it to be accurate. Okay, So this this
person wasn't healthy. Yes, it says Blank's boot got us
group one enschminded last summer. Okay, yeah, they're hurt. That's fine.
I'm saying. If you're putting, I'm thought of you said
he he stole his son's boot. No, no, no, no, no, no, no,

(02:00:25):
that's different. No no no no. If the person, No,
you're not a scumbag. If you're just using a two
year advantage. If somebody if you are one hundred percent
healthy in using a boot, you're a scumbag. Matt, No,
I don't. I'm thinking my next commercial. I don't a
commercial flood in June. I'll try it. Okay, all right, um,

(02:00:50):
and that's it for the rewind. Yeah, if you're in
the boot. Oh no, one more, one thing that I do.
One yes please. One NFL team has proposed banning the
tush push. The NFL Rules Committee may have to take
a look at it. Your thoughts, Oh, take it or
leave it? Not that I overly care, but I would
probably lean towards leave it. It seems a little overt

(02:01:11):
does it.

Speaker 14 (02:01:11):
Not?

Speaker 2 (02:01:13):
Is the NFL. I'm gonna want to take out a
rule that keeps offense going and keep his offenses on
the field. How about the kickoff returns going to the
forty hour or something like that too. Hmmm, we'll discuss
as we go along on the NFL rewines. Yeah, we
gotta keep an eye on that. Yes, And here's the question.
Have you ever put and I want to put this
out there because Ross, my friend did not do this.

(02:01:35):
I want to make sure we're clear on this, but
have any of you ever used your boot that's in
the in the closet to gain an advantage even though
you didn't need the boot. That means it schmided, That
means a dark breast. That means that Rick rags over
Rexus handicapped parking. If you're a scumbag, let us know

(02:01:59):
that that you are, and we will not judge you
too severely. Twelve forty four, The Matt Thomas Show at
Ross seven one three two one two five seven ninety
I'll tell you where you need to get taken care of.

Great on Sports Talk seven ninety your home for Houston
Astros Baseball.

Speaker 2 (02:03:22):
Little a ps to that NFL rewind we just had
and we don't. We got obviously many many months to
discuss this, and Lord knows every national TV show is
going to do it, but we can do it for
at least a little five minute segment. Here, where's Aaron
Rodgers playing in twenty twenty five CFL Stop Las Vegas.

(02:03:47):
Do you hand him the job? What's his Uh? What's
his relationship with Tom Brady? They like each other. I'm
sure they know each other. They broskies. You know you
got you hired Pete Carroll, so you're obviously not worried
about age.

Speaker 12 (02:04:03):
No.

Speaker 2 (02:04:03):
Oh, in some respects, it would have to take somebody
that says there's something still left in the tank, right.
I mean when you and again, we watched what Aaron
Rodgers really one full game this year. I was not
watching Jets national TV games when the Jets plait, the

(02:04:26):
textans you have to see what he did, And there
were some pinpoint throws that he did make. Uh. You know,
he's never been much of a scrambler, never gonna get
you the extra yards. Is there something left on the fastball?
I mean there are there're gonna be metrics to figure
out what he's got, right. I think he's okay. I
think he's decent to me, just from what I saw.
I think he makes some good throws, you say, wow,

(02:04:46):
he still got it, and then he makes some really
bad throws and make some picks. And I think the
Biggest boy is like an average to a slightly above
quarterback at this point. I think with some of the
bad quarterbacks we've seen in the NFL the last year
or three years, I think there's a spot for him
in twenty twenty five. There is, but not a long term.
It would just be like a one year deal maybe,
you know, as a guy who maybe starts a few

(02:05:06):
weeks and then maybe gets replaced by a first round
pick or I don't know, Minnesota JJ McCarthy type of situation.
But here's the thing about him. The thing that probably
is this Bikes negative is he's probably a terrible teammate.
He's mouthy. I don't think he necessarily puts in the
time in terms of training camp and OTAs. He's like
Laramie Tunsil the quarterbacks. I mean, he seems to have

(02:05:28):
had fights with his coaches and in offensive coordinator responsibility. Yeah,
I think there's probably a layer of baggage that when
he was twenty six years old, you said, I can
live with that because he's he's the great NFL quarterback
of this generation. When he's thirty whatever he is now

(02:05:48):
doesn't something nearly as attractive. Four time MVP, and when
he is accurate, he makes the throws he can lead
you on an I mean he is, and he is
a two minute drive, eighty yard guy.

Speaker 6 (02:06:04):
He was.

Speaker 3 (02:06:05):
He was was.

Speaker 2 (02:06:07):
Now you give him a full component of players and
in at least a decent offensive line. I mean he
had a good ground game last year Brestall was really good.
He had receive he didn't have a great And then
they went to Brestall was hurt too. Yeah, and they
went with the backup whose name is escaping me right now,
but they had at least one good receiver, Uh, Garrett

(02:06:27):
Wilson didn't have that great of a year Adams was.
I mean, DeVante Adams has just passed his prime. He's decent,
But I mean you would you'd be worse off with
those two running in your receiving corps. I mean, there
are a lot of teams that probably would take that
into a heartbeat. I just I don't know. He's not
that good. He's forty one. He's forty one and is
a bridge and it's gonna be up to It's gonna

(02:06:50):
be up to Aaron Rodgers decide. Can I be a
Can my eagle handle being a bridge quarterback to wrap
up my career or is the last time I set
on the uniform player wearing a uniform for the Jets
disappointing and basically the new coach coming in saying, eh,
we don't need you. Don't you if you're him with
his ego, don't you want to leave on some sort
of high note? Where do you go? I got all

(02:07:12):
the cash, I got all the honors. I'm going to
the Hall of Fame. You can want what everything you want,
but it's if it's about the other teams wanting you ross.
Everybody wants to do it on a high note. Everybody
wants to walk off and in the sunset doesn't happen.
There are so many below average. I mean, what did
the Steelers put out there? On that Steelers? What the
Raiders put out there last year? The Dak Prescott was gone,

(02:07:32):
was putting out Cooper? What is it? Uh Cooper Rush?
Well that's because Dak Prescott got her. Because I'm saying,
there's a lot of teams that have just ridiculously bad
backup quarterbacks. Well, he doesn't want to be a backup.
I imagine is he worth ten million dollars next year?

(02:07:54):
If you're if you're if you're paying the high end
fifty to fifty five sixty, Well you're not being sixty.
He's probably gonna want like twenty twenty five. I would
guess who you basically have two. There's usually no middle
ground with quarterbacks. You got the guys making a ton
of money and then the guys on rookie deals, right,
or just backups that are just making back you know,

(02:08:15):
five million dollars for one year backup salary. And yeah,
I know that people don't like it because of he
turned his public comments turn people off and whatnot. I
don't care about that. It's about on the football field.
And yeah, he's forty one. If the if the Rams
trade Matthew Stafford, why wouldn't he want to go to

(02:08:36):
Los Angeles? Who's the next guy up in Los Angeles?

Speaker 6 (02:08:44):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (02:08:46):
I don't even remember who their backup is. Give me
the backup of the Rams or forty one year old
now again, Cooper cup Is he still the same guy
that he was a couple of years ago. I don't
think so. No, he's a free agent. He may be looking.
I mean, maybe maybe they want to go ahead and
just fully implode the Rams and start from scratch there,
which I'm thinking if I'm if I'm Sean McVay. Why

(02:09:07):
don't I want that? I'd already haven't decided completely if
I want to be a long term head coach here.
Maybe the Rams are going to full enplog him. But
if you're trying to move Maggie Stafford at this point,
they're letting him test the market. The other quarterbacks at
least that I'm seeing on their roster are are Jimmy
Garoppolo and Setsan Bennett. Yeah, Aaron Rodgers can beat both

(02:09:31):
those guys out. Garoppolo is still better than Stafford, though
Garoppolo is still in the league. Yeah, what do you mean?
Guy was starting playoff games for the Niners a few
years back, started a Super Bowl, didn't he? Yeah, with Baltimore, right,
I mean we are with the Niners. Yeah, I was

(02:09:53):
at remember the Niners. All right, that'll conclude our Matthews,
our Aaron Rodgers talk for this for the next three months,
right until you sign somewhere and we can keep it.
We can keep a we might have to keep on
top of those types of Yeah, we're going full full
Jets talk every week on the NFL rewe So we're
gonna get to some astros. Shadow and we come back. Okay,

(02:10:15):
how anxious are you to see jose Al Tuvey play
left field? Hasn't happened yet. Are they trying to know that? Baltimore?

Speaker 5 (02:10:23):
One?

Speaker 2 (02:10:23):
Was Kaepernick who didn't? He didn't? He said the Super
Bowl a couple of years agoor was that party? I
guess it was party. Maybe he didn't start a super Bowl.
I'm pulling it up. Was into the chiefs of forty
nine ers? Oh yeah, you're right, Yeah, it was the
chief of forty nine as I found it. How do
you do in that game? He was twenty of thirty
one with a touchdown in two interceptions, and now he's
the backup at Los Angeles? Goes my time. I don't

(02:10:49):
think he's saying that. That's okay. He made a lot
of money. Yeah, oh, I won't try to guess Garoppolo's
career earnings. Okay, goes my range? Well, U zero to
one billion? That doesn't help me much. Oh you mean
how many am I they give you within the range?
The range game? Let's give you a leeway of seven

(02:11:10):
point five million dollars? All right, career earnings forty six million?
I don't have it on this page, So you just
randomly game. I was trying to pull it up. They
didn't have his contract info on here. Okay, I'm getting
it on, I'm getting it. But did Jimmy Groppolo date
a porn star or some point? Yeah? Mat, that's worth
it's weight in the gold, right, I guess so, Ben,

(02:11:31):
And I'll let Steve Smith find out why I made
hurt her too. Career earnings for Jimmy grooppolous me, I
don't know. Here we go history. Oh, good god, one
hundred and thirty seven million, Oh my god, I was
only up by ninety million dollars. Oh I'm sorry, a
hundred and fifty two million. I was only out by

(02:11:52):
one hundred million dollars. Good god, Jimmy Garoppolo, y'all just
let that sink in for a minute. Mid quarterback. One
hundred and fifty two million dollars. It's pretty good. Raise
your children to become starting quarterbacks. It will pay off.

Speaker 1 (02:13:34):
This is the Matt Thomas Show What four on.

Speaker 2 (02:13:38):
Sports Talk seven ninety. It is the final hour of
the Matt Thomas Show for a Monday with Ross. We
are with you today until two o'clock. If you love us,
we got a mini edition of the show tomorrow. We're
gonna go half the way. Like Crystal Gale said way
back in the day. I'll take your word for it.
We'll be on ten to eleven fifty tomorrow, in ten

(02:14:00):
to eleven fifty on Wednesday. We have Rockets Basketball both
nights as well, so we'll keep you busy here on
the airway as we call Sports Talk seven ninety Astros. Today,
we're supposed to play a spring training game. It has
been rained out. Renel Blanco was supposed to start that game.
I don't know if they're gonna push everybody back a
day or he'll throw in the backfields, whatever the case
may be, but he will not start two day's game.

(02:14:22):
Mcculor is thrown their side session. It's good for him
looking good. We're waiting to see joseel TV playing left field.
It is going to be and you and I have
been out enough spring training to known this. Anytime anything,
even the smidge changes from the normal routine, it becomes
a storyline because you're always trying to find storylines. Got

(02:14:42):
maybe he makes his left field debut and a game
during our time slot, so we have amazing listeners. Thousands
of people want to catch how Jose gonna do in
left field. I'm trying to temper my expectations because, as
you mentioned last week, and it's worth noting, when you
get in and around it, you go, man, this is
there's a there's a buzzers energy, there's a wow, can't

(02:15:04):
wait factor, And then you come back to Houston and
you deal like, are they really gonna put else TV
out and left field all these games? I've never done
it before? Yeah, are they really gonna be as good as?
Because everybody every nobody's negative, and no they shouldn't be.
Start a spring training everyone be negative and everybody's got
the greatest swing they've added a pitch, they're stronger, they're
in the best shape of their life. And it's like
you get around that for like a few days, and

(02:15:26):
you're getting those breathing in, all those fumes of positivity.
It gets in your life. You're thinking, not only are
they gonna win the West by ten games, but they're
gonna maybe not even lose a single postseason game. Exactly.
They're gonna take down the Orioles, and they're gonna take
down the Yankees, and they're gonna beat the Dodgers in
the World Series. Yeah, and you're gonna realize they're doing
the same thing in redscamp Yeah, exactly. Everybody's positive everywhere. Meanwhile,

(02:15:48):
Marlins camp Man, we're gonna shock the world. Love it,
and then reality sets it. Reality will set in at
some point and the the Astros twenty twenty five water
will find its level. It's just a matter of where
that level is, all right. So let's do a little
guessing on the some players and I'll go in no
particular order, in no particular position. Okay, let's go to

(02:16:09):
some The number one surprise last year to me, where's
Ronelle Blanco? Not even on the radar? At all for
the Astros had to kind of back door his way
in the rotation out for the injuries in the original
starting five. Nobody had him as a high end starter

(02:16:31):
for that matter, Nobody really thought he was going to
be much of a starter at all. I know the
Astros were trying to push him in that direction, yes,
and Wan not being what the most consistent pitcher of
the group hired a little bit towards the second half
of the year. He slowed down somewhat at the end
of the year, but it is still into with great numbers.

(02:16:51):
So is was that the first sign of him turning
the corner in his professional career or was that a
one off? I think, well, he's not as good as
he was all of last year in all likelihood, but
at least he can be ninety percent of that. That's

(02:17:13):
going to be a huge help to this team. I
didn't really I'm just looking this up. His era was
two eighty the whole year, and he didn't get He
didn't even finish in the top ten of the cion
Man twenty nine starts to eighty era. Is there a

(02:17:34):
possible act ray from the baseball gods to say, can
we get the exact same Renelle Blanco that the Astros
got last year in twenty twenty five. Now, according to
a field of independent pitching, he did get a little lucky.
They're actual best starters on that metric are Farber Valdez
and Hunter Brown. Well, let's let's face and that's okay.
If he can be your three guy, you're losing a
goal glover at third, but you're getting a goal glover

(02:17:55):
back at first. Yeah, and I do believe that Dubon.
Now we always talked about his hitting being a little
bit more than a slap hitter, but I do believe
his glove at second base, You're going to see not
remarkable improvement, but I would say sizable. The field that

(02:18:15):
Duba will be able to cover will be greater than
the field that jose L Tuve would have been able
to cover at second base this year. That's correct. I
do need a I knew did a step up in
Jeremy's payin his overall game. That's that's kind of a
storyline was on the back burner. But yeah, what about

(02:18:35):
getting his back going? Because you need to be better offensively.
Where the callers saying that they're going to be barbecue chicken. Yeah,
it's not that, but it's also not one of the
most feared formidable lineups in all of baseball, which it
has been for a lot of this run that they've
been on. Jeremy Payne, you went from a phenom because
it replaced a fellow phenom and had an incredible first
season and an incredible postseason to the becoming just a guy, literally,

(02:19:01):
just a guy with the bat and the gloves. Sometimes
you let you down. He'd have some of those not
brain dead, but mind numbing drop balls. Didn't need to
make it a difficult play, but made it a difficult play.

Speaker 3 (02:19:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:19:12):
We talked about ops plus with average being one hundred.
His ops plus last year was one hundred. The average bat, Yeah,
and I think for now, for value, you're not spending
any money on him. Right, that's good. And if you
have an average bat and a premium glove, it's short,
that's a good player. It's a plus player, right, But
can we get a little above average home run totals

(02:19:35):
twenty two to ten back up to fifteen, But there
was a two month stretch where it didn't leave the
ball yard, right, right. I don't envision him ever being
a twenty five guy, but I could see him between
seventeen and twenty two with a lot of doubles. He's
strong though, he could get to twenty five. He just

(02:19:57):
needs to lay off the sliders down and a way,
which everybody knows that, and it's it's not that easy.
And he talked about it in camp. One of the
things he said is he's thinking too much in there
and you just got to let it go. Well, the reality,
here's the thing that troubles me a little bit, is
that he can't hit them.

Speaker 11 (02:20:14):
Now.

Speaker 2 (02:20:14):
He's hit a few, but selling, but largely when you
throw a slider to him, if it's a good play
slider and it's got movement, Jeremy's gonna swing at it
and miss. But wouldn't you think at some point, if
you're a great athlete ross and you continue to see
the same type of pitches, that it would be able
to be a little easier to identify. No, Or do

(02:20:35):
you say, if you if a guy can't hit free throws,
he can may try to practice a hundred free throws
a game if he's still a bad free throw shooter.
Is a bad free throw shooter?

Speaker 5 (02:20:44):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (02:20:44):
I mean it's a sight thing, and it's different pictures
that comes out of their hands different ways and every
You know, if if twenty pitchers throw you a slider,
they're gonna have twenty different shape. Because here's the here's
the thing that we got to start dealing with around
If he if his batting average against pitch is the
slaughters doesn't dramatically improve, he's gonna be nothing more than

(02:21:04):
just a guy at short stop. Because the slaughter is
typically the second pitch thrown by most really good starting
manjor league pitchers. That's the reason why even though it
puts a lot of pressure on your elbow in your forearm,
today's youth are still throwing it because it does have
a nasty bite that does confuse hitters. Yeah, I mean

(02:21:25):
I can't. I've never heard of a complete baseball player
that go, yeah, man, that Jeremy, that X y Z
baseball player is great. He has the fastball five hundred feet.
He can wait on a curveball and smack it, change up,
no problem, can't as slider. Guys that can'tad sliders are
great major league hitters. Yeah, that's it happens. I mean,
it's it's a trouble with a breaking ball is he

(02:21:46):
would be he would be the only one. But I
say it's happened. But my expectations of him, and I'm
sure his own expectations of himself, are, I want to
be a feared member of this Astro lineup. And if
your sixth place hitter can't hit slaughters seven, eight, nine,
not gonna have much anybody on base. I hit two.
What are those guys you know are successful in getting

(02:22:06):
getting some big news? This his fourth year, He's still
twenty seven. He can get better. He's young, you're Florida
glass full. Let's go all right, it's a few other people.
Let's get to Uh, We're gonna get your break. We'll
get a few more players here. I'm just thinking about
guys that maybe were one offs, or guys that had

(02:22:29):
a one off bad year that could be difference makers
this year. We'll talk about a few more of those
when come back. One thirteen. It is the Matt Thomas
Show with Ross seven one three, two one two five
seven ninety rip ROBERTA. Flack. She is today's edition of
Believe It or Not. Here on seven ninety.

Speaker 6 (02:22:44):
Matt Thomas Ross VIIEL It's the Matt Thomas Show with
Ross on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (02:22:58):
All Right, few more players that we want to say
are going to improve from twenty twenty four are going
to dip, stay the same who they are. Kind of
just characterizing a few of the intangible storylines that are
not beyond the obvious one of how's Jose ol Tuba
going to play in left field? How long is the
leash going to be on Chas McCormick. I feel like

(02:23:19):
that's going to be a relatively short leash. Myers is
going to keep his spot in center field because of
the of the ground he'll cover and the fact that
he'll be able to cover up a lot of the
wards that Jose won't be able to get to, especially
with fly balls that are hit the left center field.
I think he'll be able to justify his ninth place
spot in the lineup. I think the number one goal
for Jake is to not be replaced in games because

(02:23:41):
of his lack of offense. I think that Joe Spotta
has been to a couple of times already. McCormick to
me of the two years ago, go McCormick that has
occasional power can field his position pretty well. Arms not great,
but nobody in the army at this point, and anybody
the outfields great at this point can probably hold onto

(02:24:02):
his job as long as some of that back comes in.
I think Hell's can be part of the requirement for
him obviously, and getting back to his numbers of twenty
and twenty three, the twenty twenty four offensively, Chas McCormick
probably isn't gonna last very long in right field. I
get with you or you're saying in theory, but I
think he's got a very long leash because what's the alternative. Well,

(02:24:24):
I think they'll find people who Cam Smith has said
I can play corner outfield. I think if Cam does
anything at triple A in Rakes. Now again, we weren't
a lot of pressure on this kid. That's not fair.
Meltain could be not far behind either. You could prove
Desenzo out there. You could move Duban out there if
you needed to moving some. I mean, I think the

(02:24:45):
leash is shorter than you think it is. I just
don't see the I always say the alternative Cam Smith
is knocking down the door, then you would play him
with Chas mcquark anyways, because we have enough of the
of the sample size of me to believe that Chaz
is not necessarily some guy's gonna go out there and
hit your thirty bombs at a full season. So I
think you trot him out there as long as as

(02:25:06):
you can, and you just kind of hope that's what
you're doing with right I think Jas wants to be
the everyday right fielder. I think most people probably got
thinking him as a placeholder. Yeah, he's not your long
term solution. He's not in the right field in two
years on this team. I don't think unless he comes
out like Gang Busters and as is that thirty home
run guy. But I just I just don't see him

(02:25:26):
having this huge career renaissance. He's turning. He turns thirty
in April, so he is who he is. Hopefully he
can be closer to twenty three than twenty four because
he was injured in twenty four. Twenty three numbers keep
him on the team all year long. Right twenty four numbers,

(02:25:52):
they're Look, they're probably in a little bit of a
panic mode because they're probably bringing up somebody too early
before they're early one hundred percent right here, you're probably
going to make a trade that are the season. I
don't know how much you're gonna put Ben Gamble out there.
Who's what's his health? Yeah he's I think he's thirty two.
Oh yeah, I mean the names that are being brought
up are none of them make me go wow, Chad,
you better, you better do something quicker. You're gonna be

(02:26:13):
replaced because hell, Ben Gamble will be thirty three May seventeen. Well,
let's stop talking about Ben Gamble and being any sort
of main go to guy. Is a fourth outfit or
best maybe fifth if you carry five, Oh, Jacob Melton,

(02:26:33):
save us. Just hang on and be decent enough until
Jake Milton, Jacob Melton's ready to come up, or Campsmith
as you mentioned, Yeah, all right, a couple other people.
Rafael Montaro, there is a spot for him to grab.
There's a huge financial component already attached to him. So
you've you're already on the hook for his dollar amount
this year. You might as we'll get something in return.

(02:26:56):
Mm hmm. Montaro two years ago, perfect seventh inning guy.
He was great, you need one. In twenty twenty two
playoffs he was nails. They I'll even go far to
say they don't win the World Series in twenty twenty two.
If he wasn't as good as he was, he was huge.
He was getting his six outs here and there. He
was great. The less brianer Bray you pitches in the

(02:27:19):
seventh inning of games, please, the better off this astro
team will be.

Speaker 8 (02:27:24):
What was it?

Speaker 2 (02:27:24):
What was it eighty something? He pitched eighty games exact?
You know, we kind of teased it was eighty. We
actually teased Joe a spot a spot on he was
like a man Broa. We understand we were at fans.
He's like, I wish I didn't have to put him
out that much. Okay, I'm sorry. Seventy eight games last year, Dude,
get this man some rest. Yeah he can't, I because

(02:27:47):
ultimately you want that eighth ninth spot. But with those
two guys together for a long period of time, crazy,
You nearly used a reliever half your games last and
you're you know what you're doing. You're dodging an injury
bullet is what you are. Yeah, And as even Joe
A spot I told us last week, not only are
you getting him up and using him seventy eight times,
but you're warming him up probably additional five or six

(02:28:08):
of the time, So you want to yeah, you want
to use him less. And the way to do that,
the reason they had to use him so much last
year is because every game was close, because You're pitching
is good and your offense wasn't good enough. And I'm scared,
I'm afraid that that could be the very same formula
this year for the Astros. Yep, anybody else that I've
thought about that would be not a megastar, but a

(02:28:30):
guy that the Astros have got to count on at
this point to be better, because this is a different
constructive team.

Speaker 7 (02:28:37):
You.

Speaker 2 (02:28:37):
I mean, you're losing two hillatiously awesome bats in Kyle
Tucker now experiment, you just are. And if we were
doing if we were on the outside looking, if we're
doing Seattle Mariner talk, do we believe the Astros are
as vulnerable as they've been ever during this renaissance? Absolutely,
you lose two guys, you're heard of your lineup. You're
not supposed to be all of a sudden better. Now

(02:29:02):
can the drop off be minimal? Especially if Christian Walker
hits a bunch of bombs and in that eastach Predis
can be the third basement at least offensively, that Bregman
was last year. Okay, that's hoping. Then your loss is minimal. Yeah,
you're hoping that you want them to carry the weight,
but you are which you are walking into the start

(02:29:22):
of this season the worst hitting out field of Major
League Baseball. I don't know what the Martins are thrown
out there. I don't know what the Cardinals thrown out there.
But I'm gonna be filming. I'm feeling fairly safe. It's
gonna be the worst. Man can now tub do enough
to cover up the wars of the other two guys
can't be that way. Jake's gotta hit a little, and

(02:29:42):
you need Chazz to hit more than a little. You
gotta have Chazz hit. Like most right fielders, there are
three spots in your every day lineup that you can
probably live with being less than super powerful players at
least slugging wise, your center fielder, your second basement new catcher.
If you have any of those three that do have it,
then you're in a bonus spot. Good thing, you're plus
plus at catcher. By the way, we talked about plus

(02:30:07):
plus at first. Yeah, you talked about d as much
at all. Yeah, And my guess is a Caro team.
He's gonna probably catch about the same if that maybe
a little bit more, which means you want to give
d Is either a day off or let him do
a DH day. You got a lot of guys fighting
for DH days.

Speaker 1 (02:30:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:30:24):
Last year he played catcher one hundred and two games
and first base eleven games. He ain't hitting eleven in
first base games this year. Right, as long as everything's
all right, we're gonna talk about something coming back. We
mentioned the show to begin the show today, and hopefully

(02:30:44):
you've been with us the entire three and a half hours,
but if you've not, it's a long show. We have
run into something Ross United over the weekend. Okay, it's
called Bregman fatigue and it just started in spring training.
We'll explain next one T six on Sports Talk seven er.
You know what I'm never fatigued done is delicious food

(02:31:08):

It's not just about the wings now, that's their trademark,
Big City Wings, but they also have great other side

Speaker 6 (02:32:04):
Lunchtimers, Lunch Timers, It's the Matt Thomas Show with Ross
on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 7 (02:32:12):
Jerry rips that one high left field up towards the
wall and over everything. Welcome to Boston, Alex Bragman two
run shot over the wall and the Red Sox take
out three nothing lead as advertised.

Speaker 2 (02:32:35):
He likes the ball close to him, so we had
a layer of fatigue about where he was going to play,
meaning Alex Bragman. And then the highlights of him playing
in his first game of the Red Sox yesterday, spring
training game in four Myers. You can go three for
three with a single, a double and a home run.
There's a triple away from the cycle, and if you

(02:32:57):
get a triple on the cycle, I would have to
ask the manager, what do you do with the player
out there playing for getting four AB's in a spring
training game, especially in February. Gotta go for it man,
point being is this the must win game? And the
amount of hate I don't want to see this. I'm
done with him. He's not one of ours. As I
told the audience at at ten o'clock yard, I'll reinvite
those of you that have been just joining us. Now

(02:33:20):
we look for content for the show. It's not an
editorial to tell you that you should have to look
at it. It's not an editorial that you should have
to love everything he does. If you want to boo
the hell out him when he comes to play for
the Red Sox. Letter of this year. I'm all for
that too. I don't care, but a dop boom. It
was an anecdotal thing that happened to be pretty relevant
the first time he wore a Red Sox uniform. Now, granted,

(02:33:41):
if he bats one twenty five in the month of April,
guess what we're gonna do. We're gonna put that on
our Twitter pages as well. Yeah, I don't understand why
there's so much backlash. Like, Okay, it was literally his
first home run and in a uniform that was not
the Houston Astros. Now it was a spring training game, right,
but it just looked weird to me. It was weird
because his swing that very like it feels like you

(02:34:03):
had a silhouette of it. You could be like, that's
Bregman swing. It's very recognizable. And to see that in
a Red Sox uniform, I was like, oh, man, that sucks.
That kind of hurts. Like what I thought was, I
don't want to see a lot of that when it
really counts. That was my only thought. Yeah, I kind
of don't even necessarily care that much about it, but

(02:34:24):
just to seeing it for the first time was it
would jar to me more than I thought it would
because the logically, it's fine, he moved on, they gave
him a big deal. It's okay, But Bregman's been our
guy here in Houston. And if you pay a player
forty million dollars over perceived value from the rest of
the teams, you would hope that he'd have a nice
start to a spring training and more importantly, you'd hope

(02:34:45):
he'd have a really good season for the team that's
paying him. For you, it's actually maybe mad if he
has like a huge April in May. Hey, where was
that when you were in Houston? If he's like it,
if he hits like eight home runs in April, like
what the hell?

Speaker 3 (02:35:01):
Man?

Speaker 2 (02:35:02):
Yeah, that would actually be upsetting. Yeah that if he
passed any more than say two fifty in April, we're
gonna be like, what is what are they drinking up there?
What's the Why is the water better up in Boston
than it is in Houston? But yeah, I'm joking mostly
at the end of the day, it won't really, it
doesn't matter. He's a he's a Boston red Sock, and
we're here in Houston about Christian Walker's gonna hit his

(02:35:23):
own bombs? Like I got some you know, and the
guy came back at me and said I was being
sarcastic too. Uh that's good. Well I muted to a
bunch of people. I mean we peopled you mute too many,
like three. I love the mute button. You button is
your friend. I'm trying to find the tweet here. I
wanted to show you that I that I basically said

(02:35:45):
I was kidding about it. And then let's see, let's see,
let's see you here, Let's see Matt is scrolling his
Twitter at Sports and Tea. It's great radio It's not great, right,
It's embarrassing, and I'm apologized for it. Here it is
uh here it was uh so this time, no stop.
I'm trying to find it anything. Let's see ROBERTA. Flack,

(02:36:06):
believe it or not, is coming up. Okay. Here we
be in a couple of segments. Here it is okay
at Aggie at Diehard Astros fan, I'm sick. I can
no longer like the Red Sox. I just fell to
the ranks of the Yankees and Dodgers after seeing that,
Chris says at Astroways says spring training home runs against
pictures who won't be in the opening day rosters hard
to see a little dramatic, And I responded, please look
at the word sark. Look at the word sarcasm. So

(02:36:31):
so you're saying people were being mean on Twitter, I
know people are just like I can sleep well. He
will not get going to after the All Star break
and will be struggling to get above average of two
forty people forgot he damn near loved the league infield
pop ups. I support every ex Astroo except when they
go against the Astros. Wish pragmant, Well, I like that person.

(02:36:55):
How about this one? Sounds like you need it's only
spring training segment. That's actually pretty funny. It's just the
pre season. It's just a spring training. What are we
sounding from, Sicily, we never did one of those spruce
just the spring. It's just the preseason for this hope.
It was every game Astros for life. Okay, pastor prude home,

(02:37:16):
I got you on that uh beat. Bobby Texas name
is Forrest Forrest Gump, and I may not be a
smart man, but even I know it's just a pre season.
Thank you for us. We haven't heard Forrest speaking quite
some time. Bobby Texas is just wait till the end
of the first month if the season, if he's hitting

(02:37:37):
a buck ninety seven with one jack and the RS
fans are booing the blank out of him because they're
already six games out, it's possibility for sure. I don't
think so. We'll see, though, Sports says. Anyone who wants
to boo Bregman for signing a deal that pays forty
million per season when the Astros are offering just over half,
that is a fool. Mm hmm. It's I didn't.

Speaker 1 (02:37:58):
You needn't calm down. It is just the preseason.

Speaker 2 (02:38:03):
That's what Dylan gwyn call hers sounded like when he
called the show. He was doing a Dylan Gwin in person.
We lost most of these preseasons, so they're gone. Now
we show people sending us some more back and through
we could do it. Yeah, it was a nice bit
for a while. Nothing means nothing. Yeah, let me tell
you the much to minister to. It's just the preseason.

(02:38:28):
Thank you, macho man. May you rest like? How did
Bill Cosway he sell the Bill Cosby want? No, I
don't see it. Oh, I know, I can't put that
Bill Cosmy impersonation out anymore?

Speaker 5 (02:38:39):
Why not?

Speaker 2 (02:38:41):
It doesn't feel like it's about politically correct. He alive
or dead? You know the answer to that.

Speaker 8 (02:38:45):
He's dead?

Speaker 2 (02:38:45):
No, he's alive. Is he really? Yeah? I couldn't remember, Bobbi.
We'll do uh, you know what I'm gonna do Thursday
unless something special happens. Oh he is alive or not
believe it or not dead or alive on Thursday, Sho,
I thought he was on his deathbed. Didn't you have
a bunch of strokes and whatnot. I think he lost
his eyesight. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. So I really
couldn't remember. Sorry, it's not doing any sort of concert tours. No,

(02:39:09):
I don't think so. Actually they told him he's on tour,
but he can't see. I mean, here's the reality about Bregman.
I'm a fan of his. I'm not gonna ever not
be a fan of his. Do I want him to
strike out eleven times against the Astros? Absolutely? But you
know what for if you're a fan of his, which
I am, I want him to be valued. I want
him to make earn his salary and his his image.

(02:39:33):
His stance among baseball fans will be tarnished if he
goes to Boston plays for forty million dollars next year,
and that's too twenty five. That'll be great. You can
up right in, baby, he's doing great. That's why I'm
saying he his worst kid really did well. At the
end of the day, his patience didn't pay off. His
worst case scenario was one hundred and twenty million dollars.
Worst case scenary a bumbling idiot for one twenty. It's

(02:39:57):
not bad. If I'm a bubbling idio into this station,
I'm down for about twelve thousand dollars. Well, we've been
trying one hundred and twenty million dollars to be a
guy that is going to be Basically, if he gets
to one hundred ops, he's going to be good. Was
he one away last year? A LPs plus one eighteen?
He was one eighteen plus. It's pretty good. That still

(02:40:20):
got him only twenty seven million dollars a year highest bid.
It's not up to Lance Berkman's all time mark of
one forty four. That's good. It's good. Adam Clanton coming in,
he's got his rockets rain jacket on. Why do you
give us a why do you give us a Clanton
fit check every day? Because he's wearing some of their rockets.
I mean, thank you, Ross. What is up with you
and the amount of gear that you've purchased? Why do

(02:40:42):
you care so much? Because I think you should be
spending your money on your children. Do you know how rotten?
My children aren't spoiled rotten? You Maine rotten. Spend way
more money on them than me. Okay, okay, then continue
to wear yourself then, well thanks, I'm glad to have
your permission.

Speaker 15 (02:40:57):
I'm just so happy that you're gonna be taking care
of the kids. Kingwood Volleyball pullover. Yeah, why do you
spend so much money? Because I represent k Wood?

Speaker 2 (02:41:05):
That cost money. You don't give it to me for free,
do you? It's probably to a discount. I thought they
did for for doing the PA at the games. That
should give you a free you know what. They made
me pay for the admission, just to get in hold
on a second. You do PA at the volleyball games too.
Your ego is massive. They asked me to do it.
I didn't ask No. I'm gonna back up, math, Carl said.

(02:41:29):
Carly told the coach dad, I want my dad to
do the PA for the game. That's actually cool. Yeah,
so thank you. I didn't Well, okay, are you an
on sidewalk duty for the local elementary school?

Speaker 1 (02:41:41):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (02:41:41):
You know, it's fun. That's a tidewalk people were right,
those those like those rain little Yeah. I think that's
a great jacket. I don't know why you're hating. That's
a fren jacket. I'm actually a jelly. I'm actually can
I have it right now? I want to write what
you get?

Speaker 4 (02:41:53):
I bought it.

Speaker 15 (02:41:54):
I bought it actually, I think last season at Toyota
Center got it it is.

Speaker 2 (02:41:58):
I I tease because I care. It's really good looking
out fit. Well, anything that has this logo, which they
should please go back to, is great. No, it's the
Ketchum muster for the unit, the Ketchup Gray Poopa wh
they have now. Yeah, but why did they do that?
Is that gonna be trademark rolls or something.

Speaker 15 (02:42:14):
Even when they did the they did the blue with
the old logo, that was a mix match that was
almost just like a thumb in your nose, Like this
is to appease both sets of fans. Because I was
talking to somebody about this this morning and they were like, hey,
I was eight years old when they changed from the
Ketchup a Mustard to the blue. Yeah, and it's like
who wins back to back championships and then does that?

Speaker 2 (02:42:36):
Nobody ever?

Speaker 15 (02:42:38):
So just you know, Tillman Patrick, if you're listening ketchup
a Mustard, let's go. It's all takes. And obviously they're
selling it. I mean you you bought this recently. This
is not a thirty year old jacket. In fact, I
would I don't know the numbers, but if you were
to look at the numbers, I would say that this
stuff overwhelmingly out sells anything else they have.

Speaker 2 (02:42:55):
We have the gear Lady on before and she talked
about that. Yeah, Carol, how did she like the I
don't think it out sells, but it's like very closer
than most other teams in the league, right, because that's
what real Rockets fans want. Now, when you're working your
shift at the elementary school, do you have they sign
up stop sign? Actually it's both you flip it. Yeah,
there's a slow, well, that's construction slow and then stop.

(02:43:18):
By the way, we're doing cross talk here. A lot
of shows don't do it. We're doing it here. Can
we come in? Uh? I understand that wax wants to
run through Steve Smith's texting, Uh, oh my.

Speaker 15 (02:43:27):
Gosh, what are we gonna wait till there's TV so
we can include the video. I actually listened to that
last night, all the way through for the first time.
It doesn't get good to the very end because all
it does is the husband just berates him. He doesn't
and Steve Smith says nothing until the very end. But
I was shocked that a guy who is a prolific
trash talker, that's his reputation said nothing.

Speaker 2 (02:43:47):
Almost more than his game said nothing.

Speaker 15 (02:43:50):
He was like crying, I'm sorry, why didn't you tell
him to like ice up or something like that?

Speaker 2 (02:43:56):
His text game was, well, actually her text game, which
will he tell the hear that?

Speaker 15 (02:44:03):
Just let that marinate for a few seconds. I'm gonna
turn my mic off so I can do my shows.

Speaker 2 (02:44:06):
Set it first, and you're getting all the credit. I
can you credit it to anybody? Got ice up? First?
One forty three? Let's play Believe it or Not? Next,
let's category Robert a flag Ie. It's the three letters
that we can't say on the show, which we already did. IUD.
You can't say all things about iud's I don't think

(02:44:28):
so I don't think. Let's get us at all sports

When I listen to the Matt Thomas Show, I don't
even understand. It's the eclectic nature of the show, the dichotomy,
the ostentatiousness, the perfunctory that sounds about as smart as
leva ball.

Speaker 2 (02:45:49):
Back to the Matt Thomas Show. Whoever he is, nothing
can stopped me. I'm all the way.

Speaker 1 (02:45:57):
All myself saw.

Speaker 11 (02:45:58):
I saw it.

Speaker 2 (02:46:04):
Is a Matt Thomas show with Ross Sports Talk seven
ninety should Dersh Sanders will not be working out for
teams at the Combine because Dion's already said he should
be the first pick and screw the rest of you.
They don't pick him number one. I don't think Dion
said that, but I don't know. Combine to me is
just a bunch of guys running around in their underwear
and getting asked awkward questions. Remember that one year, Rossie,

(02:46:31):
there was like two or three different players were coming
out and saying, you wouldn't believe this team would ask
me about asking about my mother and being a stripper,
And yeah, wasn't it the Dolphins GM asked somebody about
their mother being a hooker? Then yeah, I mean the
only person in the NBA that should be asked about
their mother's probably Gloria Lebron James about Gloria James. Oh,

(02:46:51):
that's that's not nice. I mean, he's Delante West doing
these days?

Speaker 3 (02:46:56):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (02:46:56):
I have to ask Mark Cuban wasn't trying to say
on the streets. Yeah, I think so. It's not turned
out well. I tried to save the life, that's all right.
I do have some great news for you, Matt. Please,
did you know that you could make iHeartRadio as sports
Talk seven ninety and you're a number one pre sent

want to support the show, we appreciate you making us

(02:47:17):

number one that you need to find Houston sports. Let's
do it. Let's go a lot of people do with
this SHA today. Thank you very much for doing that.
That's true. Appreciate everyone. He is everyone of you. Also,
Adrian Wacher Hoowski, you learn about you heard heard who
he him? It doesn't matter. He is the Saint Botaventure's

(02:47:42):
men's basketball general manager. Yeah, I didn't realize that mid
level basketball schools needed gms. But on the bodies, Mattie. Okay,
he is offering up a variety of things for sale. Okay,
he's got me or Beeley or what money that he
is going to raise for Saint Bonaventure. He's got his

(02:48:05):
Nokia flip phone that he first broke news on or something.
If you would like to submit an offer for the
iPhone used to break Paul George and Kawhi Leonard to
the LA Clippers, that will be high. Offer right now
is at four hundred and fifty dollars. What now the
iPhone for the Paul George Kawhi to LA Clippers. I
was joking. He's literally selling phones he broke news on
the NBA draft credential for the Wemby Draft. You can

(02:48:28):
get that credential for seven hundred and fifty dollars. Who cares?
Should I sell all these crap credentials I have in
my closet. You can get the iPhone used to break
the NBA suspending season because of COVID. That's available for
seven hundred and fifty dollars. No dinner with woj is
not listed at a dollar amount. I'll give you a
if he picks up the tab, I'll give you five bucks. Uh,

(02:48:50):
woje criticizing your political beliefs, that's not on there. Okay,
he did that already, got himself suspended, his draft credential
for the final draft he ever covered for the NBA
and ESPN four hundred dollars, and if you want his
ID badge from between twenty seventeen and twenty twenty four,
three hundred and fifty dollars video call of Woach is

(02:49:11):
no offer on that. The iPhone used for his farewell
tweet and his final NBA draft five hundred and fifty dollars,
A credential for last year's NBA Finals three hundred dollars,
a twenty twenty one NBA Finals credential three hundred dollars
iPhone for the lottery draft in Wemby is a two
fifty got gee? What is this? What is going on?
What about the poster of him getting dunked on by
sham Shirania?

Speaker 17 (02:49:32):
Mmm?

Speaker 2 (02:49:33):
What about the record of Saint Bonnie's basketball this year?
I have no idea what happen it is? How are
