Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross ten.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
O one an h Town. Good morning, and welcome to
a Monday edition of The Matt Thomas Show with Ross
from Denver. This is Sports Talk seven ninety sometime. Because

(00:30):
I getting a good.

Speaker 3 (00:34):
Stroud well protected and there's nicker pounds and nigger towns.
Look right into the in zone and opening drive checks
some textown sometime?

Speaker 2 (00:45):
Is that getting a good d.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
March back in with two tight ends all sad directly
into the end zone. What a sweet play for a
textown Texas dot Com.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
I gotta burk for your talk. How many wor the
dolls you called?

Speaker 4 (01:11):
Yea?

Speaker 5 (01:12):
I gotta bring the pipe round.

Speaker 6 (01:15):
We'll get out of it.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
Throws on the move, textdown taxes, duncan shutz.

Speaker 5 (01:23):
Come, Hony boy, put me back. I gotta fell into
the brown.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
Sometimes. Does that get a good beating?

Speaker 4 (01:32):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:35):
Third and goal strout end zone cuts down Vico Collins
the bang for the Texans and Denico Ryants, as his
quarterback said, we have blinders on and at the moment,
hanging on to their playoff spot that the two tight

(01:57):
ends were outstanding today. Dalton Else and Trey McBride.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
Yeah, you should have a good cheerler except for Trey McBride,
and you took advantage of it. Buddha Baker's pretty good too.
But that's about it for cardinal conversation. Your Texans are
putting together quite a second half of the season, have

(02:28):
now won six consecutive games, and with Kansas City's lost yesterday.
And I fully expect, because this is the essence of
the show, that Jonathan Allen are established producer friend of
the show, will be giving me endless grief. Not only today.

Speaker 5 (02:52):
AFC Dominant. You said they're gonna run the AFC Matt,
what happened that is?

Speaker 6 (02:56):
I think I I think you're misquoting me.

Speaker 2 (02:59):
Okay, Okay. Then I said, don't give up on them. Oh,
we'll go get the We'll got the audio for that.
I know I've got some breaking news for you. You
can officially give up on them. Not only are they
out of the playoffs, but you got to torn ACL
for Patrick Mahomes. But let's worry about them later. Let's
worry about what's happening with the locals teams in town.

(03:22):
I am here in Denver, Colorado, and I would look
at my weather channel app is it really thirty seven
degrees in Houston right now.

Speaker 5 (03:30):
It is so cold, man, you have no idea And
Wendy two that windshiels.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
Are you ready for this, Jonathan? It is warmer here
in Denver, significantly.

Speaker 6 (03:41):
Warmer really than it is in Houston right now.

Speaker 5 (03:43):
Wasn't it like what fifty sixty?

Speaker 2 (03:45):
Well it's not sixty. That's let me tell you what
it is right now. It is forty three degrees here
with no wind, sunny skies, and they're they're feeling pretty
good about their football team. By the way, they knocked
off the Broncos or the Green Bay Packers here yesterday. Yes,
the way Denver's downtown went and had dinner last night.

(04:07):
I mean thousands and thousands of Green Bay Packer fans.
Those people can travel, I mean, I know you Texans,
you're traveling Texans. Folks think you can do it, and
maybe you do, because I don't obviously travel on the
road in the same city as that the Texans are
playing in. But damn there.

Speaker 6 (04:25):
I mean, I couldn't go two feet without a Packer gear.
And they lost. But think that's their issue.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
What is the most importance today is that Ross is
off all this week. I would say a well deserved vacation.
It's relative. I mean, you know what he brings the show,
really Foe takes about terrible food and terrible opinions about
metrics and the terrible decisions made by Kannessy chiefs head coaches.

(04:52):
I've got this week to cleanse the show and bring
my perspective of things.

Speaker 6 (04:56):
I know he's not listening, so I can say these things.

Speaker 2 (04:59):
We're gonna have a couple we'll guess throughout the course
of the week. Chris Gordon's gonna hang out with us
for a couple of hours on Tomorrow and on Friday. Uh,
We've got Channel Rome's gonna come in for a couple
of hours on Wednesday and Thursday. We'll have our normal guests.
But today it's you, it's Jonathan, and it's me. So
like we used to do back in the old school

(05:21):
days when there was only one way to communicate it
was sports radio, to discuss your football team more good
and bad. Today is an opportunity for you to come
on in and be a part of the program if
you would like to do so. And you know what,
I always have a little special affinity for my ten o'clockers.
I you know, honestly, in the four hours of the show,
I love you ten o'clockers more than anybody else because

(05:44):
just check in to make sure you're out there. Seven
one three, two one two five seven NAUGHTI is how
you reach the show today if you want to chime
into the conversation. Seven to one to three, two one
two five seven ninety as the Texans did not allow
the Cardinals to pull off.

Speaker 6 (06:00):
A surprise trap game. Worry about the spread.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
Hell, by the time you sat down and relaxed, it
was already seven to nothing in favor of the Texans
and a long touchdown pass. What was good? CJ?

Speaker 6 (06:13):
Stroud?

Speaker 2 (06:14):
What was excellent?

Speaker 6 (06:16):
Nico Collins?

Speaker 2 (06:17):
What was really good? Kaymie Fairburn? Knocking down field goals?
What still has to be worked on? Red zone? Still
always give me an issue? Maybe it'll always be an
issue for the team.

Speaker 4 (06:28):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
Texans defense was really good yesterday, except for the fact
they couldn't stop Trey McBride. And Trey McBride's an elite
tight end, so that's that's going to happen. And Frankly
McBride catching everything that was thrown to him by Jacoby
Prissett noted Texans killer, and you still won the game
by twenty points. And frankly, it wasn't even as close
as the score would indicate. I mean, percent was pretty

(06:50):
good twenty seven to forty for two forty nine. Passer
rating was nearly one hundred.

Speaker 6 (06:54):
But CJ.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
Stroud out performed him. CJ was really good twenty two
to twenty nine for two sixty three touchdowns. And I believe,
and I would think you guys would believe me as well,
that our quarterback, your quarterback, America's quarterback, got his mojo
back yesterday twenty two of twenty nine for two sixty

(07:15):
got sack one time, didn't throwny interceptions through that beautiful
passist Nico Collins, all turning into a long touchdown earlier.
On eventually found the end zone three times. And it's
amazing to me what you can do with a running game.
Juar Jordan. If I would have asked you two weeks ago,

(07:37):
who Jerar Jordan is, you would have said what boy
band is he in? You would have said is he
one of the actors in the latest superhero comics movies
that are out? Or you would have said, what's op opera?

Speaker 5 (07:55):
Is he on?

Speaker 6 (07:56):
Or is he a influencer?

Speaker 2 (08:00):
You would not have said, Jair Jordan is a running
back for my Houston Texans. Fifteen carries, one hundred one yards,
the first time a Texans running back this season ran
for one hundred Where was that on your bingo card?
The answer was it's not. It never was in your

(08:20):
bingo card. But Jordan was good. He got fifty on
one carries. So if you take the one carry away
that was fourteen for fifty one, you know, not not awesome,
but who cares. You got an extra running.

Speaker 6 (08:35):
Back and you needed it because what he marks kept
getting in and out of the game.

Speaker 2 (08:39):
You didn't have Nick Chubb available for you. A gooble
Wally is not going to be considered a guy that
you want to hand the ball up to a bunch
as in the case yesterday. I'm not saying that Texans
had the running back situation solved, but for one week
against a terrible opponent, you'll take it.

Speaker 6 (08:55):
So we will discuss that as the show progresses.

Speaker 2 (08:57):
Now, how Trey McBride caught thirteen catches or twelve catches
for one thirty four and two touchdowns. Look, the Texans
we've talked about before, have a difficult time covering tight ends.
It is what it is. And McBride's an elite player
at his position. As sucky as the Arizona Cardinals are,
and it's really been sucky for a long period of time,
they've had a elite to the McBride's is the best

(09:18):
player in the NFL at his position you don't know about,
and he was awesome yesterday and you got a little
glimpse of that and thankfully didn't hurt you. So we
will get to a little bit of the Texans, but again,
today's your day to come on in at seven one
three two one two five seven ninety seven one three, two,
one two five seven ninety I mentioned him here in
Denver tonight Rockets against the Nuggets. I'll have the broadcast

(09:39):
for you beginning at seven point thirty with the Rockets
launch pad. Tip time is eight thirty here uh in Denver,
as the Rockets begin the longest road trip I've ever
been on. This is my tenth year doing road games.
I don't get home until the twenty sixth, So today
in Denver, tomorrow and Denver then we'll be New Orleans
Wednesday Thursday, and then Arty Show will be back here

(10:01):
in Denver because of the quirky NBA scheduling with the
nd season tournament.

Speaker 6 (10:05):
So if you want to get into some Rockets chatter,
you may do.

Speaker 2 (10:08):
So they took care of business over the weekend, beating
the Los Angeles Clippers in a game on Thursday night.
So we've got not a whole lot of Rockets to
get to because they haven't played a whole lot. But
if you want to chime in the Rockets, you know
I'm always game for that. Philly Rivers started yesterday for
the Indianapolis Colts and almost got him a victory. The

(10:30):
stats were not super impressive, but by no means that
he hurt his team. He'd be better than anything else
they were throwing out there. Forty four years old, give
the guy props. Threw a touchdown pass and nearly helped
the Colts beat the Seattle Seahawks. Seahawks got a late
field goal to win that contest. Speaking of the AFC
playoff race, it's coming more into focus.

Speaker 4 (10:54):
Is it not?

Speaker 2 (10:54):
Gang? And it doesn't involve the Kansas City Chiefs. The
Los Angeles Archers went to Kansas City and beat them,
held them under to twenty points. Yet again a late
you had Pat Mahomes get hurt, Garner Minshew and his
long hair got on the field. There was an interception
that was a pass intended for Travis Kelsey late and
the Kansas City Chiefs are not going to playoffs? What

(11:19):
are we going to do with ourselves? Because I think
the lowest of lowest hanging fruit has been Oh, the
Chiefs are in the AFC. Nobody else has a chance.
They were saying that in Buffalo for a long period
of time. They've been saying in Baltimore for a long
period of time, and they certainly have been saying in
here in Houston for a long period of time. They're done.

(11:39):
Who in the hell is gonna win the AFC? I'm
here in Denver. They beat the Packers yesterday late, they
got a huge day from bow Nicks. They're feeling really
good about themselves. Jacksonville destroyed the Jets yesterday. They're now
in double digit wins. They're feeling really good about themselves.
I don't know how the Patriots feel, like, you know
what we were doing for a loss after winning ten

(12:01):
consecutive games, But I can tell you Buffalo Bills fans
feeling pretty good. They went to New England and won
that game as Josh Allen had a huge day. This
AFC is a complete coin flip, multiple coin flips. And
I got good news for you Texans fans. Your team
is in a mix. If this defense shows up for

(12:21):
the next seven weeks, you got just as good a
chance as anybody else in the AFC to win the
whole damn thing.

Speaker 6 (12:27):
And I don't remember saying that in these parts. Okay,
I'll throw it at you.

Speaker 2 (12:32):
When's the lost time we've ever said that the Texans
have as good a chance as anybody else to win
the AFC. What was it when they won their first
AFC South Championship. Maybe I'm like, I'm talking like twenty eleven.
Because every time the Texans play at three thirty on
a Saturday, that's for a reason. A Nobody follows them

(12:54):
nationally and B nobody thinks they're gonna go deep in
the playoffs. I mean, we gotta We're gonna just be honest.
This is the show about honesty. This isn't about you know,
pumping things up that artificially don't need to be pumped up.

Speaker 6 (13:11):
Your team's got a shot, it does that.

Speaker 2 (13:14):
Denver played really well yesterday Buffalo, huge win for them
at New England. Jacksonville is playing probably its best football
in a while. And actually I actually was watching some
Sports Center with the last night and they were actually
talking about how well Trevor Lawrence has.

Speaker 6 (13:27):
Played this bad Boys wide open. We'll get to that
on the show today.

Speaker 2 (13:32):
The Heisman Trophy presentation was over the weekend. Fernando Mendoza
Indiana won it. Diego Poppy of the second place finisher.
Did he act like a little bee. We'll talk about that.
I also want to go back on the Texans. Is
your faith on CJ. Stroud restored?

Speaker 6 (13:54):
We'll get to that. And obviously.

Speaker 2 (13:59):
Going without saying a lot of events in our world
the last twenty four hours have startled me personally, I'm
sure many of you as well. The tragic shootings in Australia.
Closer to home a little bit, the shootings at bron
University in Providence, where my daughter is going to be
going to school next year, at the University Rhode Island,

(14:19):
which is not far from Providence, but that Brown University
community and University Rhode Island are very tight because they're
big rivals and they're only about twenty five minutes apart
from each other. So I've been thinking a lot about that,
and then getting to the hotel and having dinner last night,
and then hearing about the tragic murders frankly of Rob
Reiner and his wife. Look, I didn't follow Rob Reiner

(14:43):
for his politics, and I'm running late here, but I'm
doing a monologue here. I didn't follow Rob Reiner for
his politics. I followed Rob Reiner for his comedic talents
in his director editorial expertise some of the great movies
of the last fifty years. Rob Reiner was in charge
of one of my favorite TV shows of all time,
groundbreaking television with all the family he was on it,

(15:06):
and I used to watch as a kid, because I
used to watch reruns when I was a kid. Just completely,
and I'm sure I'm speaking from many of you devastated
to hear of his passing and his wife's passing, And
if you've not heard, one of his sons has been
taken into custody, which is unfortunate but a very very
tragic situation. So and then we also lost one of

(15:29):
the TV icons in Houston, Dave Ward, and half of
today's Believe or not will be about honoring Dave Ward
as he passed away. Also on a brighter note, Dick
Van Dyke, one of the great entertainers of all time,
celebrated his one hundredth birthday over the weekend.

Speaker 6 (15:41):
So we're gonna split up believe it or not today
between Dick Van Dyke Award.

Speaker 2 (15:48):
Twenty two. Good morning, It's about tom a show with Ross.

Speaker 6 (15:52):
Ross's off this week. I'm here in Denver.

Speaker 2 (15:55):
Come on, hang out with me.

Speaker 6 (15:56):
Hang out with me. I won't bite. And if I
did a thousand miles away, when you.

Speaker 2 (16:00):
Do seven one three two point two five seven ninety
seven one three two point two five seven ninety It
is your opportunity to celebrate the Texans win. It is
your opportunity to tell me that c. J. Stroud has
got his mojo back. It's your opportunity to tell me
that Matt I had no idea who the hell Jawar
Jordan was. It's okay, you're not the only one. Fifteen

(16:20):
carries for one oh one. That's pretty good. Cardinal's terrible.
Guess what, It's gonna be better next week because the
Raiders super suck. They got well, they were shut out
yesterday in uh, Philadelphiainst. Eagles, So let me go. So
let's put it straight. The Raiders are terrible. They went
to Philadelphia and got their brains beat out. They flew
all the way back and they're gonna go jump on
a plane again this week and they come to play
the Texans on Sunday. Oh my gosh, how good is that?

(16:43):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two point two five seven. Honey, we'll here
Fornmiko Ryan's coming up today about eleven fifteen. We have
to tell the truth today at twelve thirty, and we're
gonna give you guys an opportunity to win some prizes
on to tell the truth. I have truce three of them.
I believe one I do not, So you'll have to

(17:05):
figure that out. Coming up at twelve thirty today. By
the way, shout out to SFA Jonathan giving it a
professional effort in their game against Montane.

Speaker 5 (17:13):
You know, are you being sarcastic? Are you being genuine?

Speaker 2 (17:16):
What do you think?

Speaker 3 (17:17):
You know?

Speaker 2 (17:17):
Me the last name?

Speaker 5 (17:18):
I feel like they played alright. I feel they had
you know, had some good good drives in there. Did
you watch the game, Yes, I watched the game until
we were down till third quarter. Let's say that I.

Speaker 6 (17:28):
Wasn't so you gave up just like the team did. Basically, no, no, no, no, no.

Speaker 5 (17:32):
You know, a girl wanted to watch something else, you know,
you know the deal.

Speaker 2 (17:35):
Whoahoa, whoa, whoa.

Speaker 6 (17:36):
Does she not realize that's your Alma Monter. That's a
school that used to call home.

Speaker 5 (17:39):
She graduated there too.

Speaker 7 (17:40):
I mean it was you know.

Speaker 2 (17:43):
It got okay. Here's yeah, here's the worst part of
this whole conversation going.

Speaker 6 (17:48):
Before you go on the phones. You change from an
SFA playoff game.

Speaker 2 (17:51):
Two what.

Speaker 5 (17:55):
She wanted to watch? Uh, the Love Island Australia. You
know I couldn't say I couldn't say no. I was
talking about the TV all day. Yeah yeah, yeah yeah.

Speaker 2 (18:09):
I would ask all of you men. Now, ladies, you
won't do this, but if you'd like to call and
rip Jonathan a new one for dumping his team's.

Speaker 5 (18:19):
Playoffs, Oh whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, Look, because.

Speaker 6 (18:21):
They're watching Love Island austro every.

Speaker 5 (18:24):
Day you've been there. You had to watch the Hallmark channel.
You've been there, and that's no different than me.

Speaker 2 (18:29):
I'm Jonathan I despise the Hallmark channel. I scream at
the Hallmark Channel. I actually leave the room in the
Hallmark channel a lot. But I'll be damned. And my
wife thankfully knows, being a sports wife, that'd be like
pulling off a Astros game when they're down four to
two to watching something on the Hallmark Channel.

Speaker 6 (18:50):
I gotta pull your card. I just pulled it.

Speaker 2 (18:54):
Love Island, Australia. I do Hey, No, I know what
you're supposed to do. I act like growing ass Man's
that's smart. That's our school. Did y'all meet there? But
let's be honest.

Speaker 5 (19:09):
Did you see the score?

Speaker 2 (19:09):
Did you?

Speaker 5 (19:10):
Did you watch the game?

Speaker 8 (19:11):
No?

Speaker 2 (19:11):
Of course, not exactly. I just look.

Speaker 6 (19:15):
I just kept look at the scoreboard to think it
grow that lead, grow that lead, cover the spread.

Speaker 5 (19:19):
The receivers were dropping balls left in the right midfield.

Speaker 4 (19:21):
It was it was.

Speaker 2 (19:22):
It was not so you just so you gave up
on your school.

Speaker 5 (19:25):
Okay, that gave you are so if I was, if
they were giving it all, I would be sitting there.
But they gave up on themselves.

Speaker 2 (19:31):
Man, I don't know. It was a fun.

Speaker 5 (19:33):
It was funnablets and it's good for the program though,
That's why he stay.

Speaker 2 (19:37):
That's why he's saying, hey, coach, stand justifying Love Island
Australia because his receivers were dropping their ball.

Speaker 5 (19:43):
No, happy girl, man, happy girl?

Speaker 2 (19:46):
Okay?

Speaker 6 (19:46):
So on seven and you what's your chilikin question today?

Speaker 2 (19:49):
Kay?

Speaker 6 (19:49):
So how are you?

Speaker 2 (19:50):
How are you?

Speaker 8 (19:52):
I would rip on John's and the four editions on
the mater, But I mean, have you tried watching SSA football?
It's like on par with watching Rice and it's a
great school. I mean, my mom went to SSA. She
was a teacher for forty years, so I mean it's
awesome school. But I don't know, man, I probably watched
Love Island over SSA football. But what I was calling

(20:14):
about was, Matt, are we do you think we're gonna
get Tari back tonight?

Speaker 2 (20:20):
Well, they're gonna go to shoot around here in about
an hour from now, and I think we'll get a
better indication if not at noon your time or one
o'clock your time, more like around five thirty six o'clock.

Speaker 6 (20:34):
So I don't know. It's definitely a possibility.

Speaker 2 (20:36):
Depends on how he felt yesterday getting on the plane
coming up here, and what he's going to feel like
working out this morning.

Speaker 8 (20:43):
Okay, and I assume DFS is out until January?

Speaker 2 (20:47):
Is that correct? Yeah? I don't Yeah, he will not.
I don't think he'll play until you know, maybe you know,
hopefully a couple of weeks. But he is ramping up
his workouts. He is partaking more practices than he has before.

Speaker 8 (20:57):
Okay, well, I appreciate it's wanting to get that in
and have fun at the dispensary shops today.

Speaker 6 (21:02):
All right, Maddie, you don't know that I'm going there? Okay,
So you don't.

Speaker 2 (21:08):
I go every time. It's fine, it's cool.

Speaker 6 (21:11):
Do you like the macaroons? Just asking for a friend?

Speaker 4 (21:14):
I like it?

Speaker 2 (21:15):
All right, thank you?

Speaker 5 (21:17):
Case this tys of the Monday.

Speaker 4 (21:24):
I like this?

Speaker 9 (21:25):
You think it is?

Speaker 2 (21:25):
Okay? Good?

Speaker 6 (21:26):
Can I tell you what the You know what a
macaroon is, don't you?

Speaker 2 (21:28):
Yeah? Yeah? Yeah? How would you describe it? Is it
like a cookie with a coconut topping on it? Basically?

Speaker 5 (21:35):
If I would describe it, no one had it. I'd
be like, it's a flavorful gram cracker with the texture.

Speaker 2 (21:40):
I guess you know almost, but me let me see,
because I'm going to give you. I'm going to give
you a very funny story. Okay, and I'm not going
to tell you who is at the dinner party. By
the way, let me tell you what the definition of
a macaroon is. It is a chewy, often coconut based cookie. Yeah,
I was right, it's got coconut on it. So we're

(22:04):
at dinner and we're talking about words we don't like.
Uh oh, and you know the word I used is
I don't like the word moist. I've told you about that,
right right, right right.

Speaker 6 (22:15):
So you think of words that you don't like, and
you don't hear them very often.

Speaker 2 (22:21):
Well, one of one of the people at the dinner party,
and I will not mention who was at this part,
said I don't like the word macaroon. Now, okay, it
kind of caught me off guard. It caught me oft
guard because it's not an offensive word. It describes a

(22:44):
type of cookie. Now, you don't may not like, may
not like macaroons because you may not be pro coconut.
But how does somebody hate the word macaroon? These are
things I want you to ponder today. The third person
at our dinner party had a word that he hated,

(23:05):
and I can't mention it on the year. It's a
word you don't hear very often. It's a bodily function.
But it was so offensive that I can't even mention
it on this major market show.

Speaker 5 (23:17):
So a bodily function.

Speaker 6 (23:19):
Yeah, I'll tell you off here because there's no chance
I can tell you on here.

Speaker 5 (23:24):
Do I want to know that? I don't know.

Speaker 2 (23:25):
No, I mean you can actually go without knowing if
you don't want to know, you know, I don't know,
don't don't want to know.

Speaker 6 (23:29):
Yeah, I don't think you want to know either.

Speaker 10 (23:32):
I think you know this three phases of football. You
know we're playing together. I think you know offensively, you
know we're getting better every week, getting hot. So I
mean you're we're getting hot at the right time. You know,
we're sing we're turning up, you know, you know towards
decemberage going into January. You know we ought to keep
this going. You know, it's it's gonna be the one
game at a time mentality. You know, one player at
a time mentality. You know, then we'll look up by
the end of year and see.

Speaker 2 (23:51):
Where we're at. Well, where you're at is you're very
close to capturing a playoff spot. That is see j
Strouds seventh seed right now in the AFC. Jacksonville has
a tough game at Denver this week. The Texans do not.
They've got a home game for the Raiders. I was

(24:14):
in and maybe because I'm a dweeb, well you could
probably say that regardless if I do this or not,
I think it's gonna go four to five tie breakers
to determine whom in's the AFC South. Because think about this,
your head to head record is gonna be about the same,
well will be because you've split my I think they're
gonna have the same record within the division. I think

(24:35):
they're gonna have the same record.

Speaker 6 (24:36):
Within their.

Speaker 2 (24:41):
Common opponents. I think they're gonna have the same record
within the conference. It might come down to margin a
victory if I read that right, because I mean I
was bored yesterday. The Texans may or may not win
the AFC South with a similar record and may lose

(25:02):
it because of how bad they beat opponents or and
maybe how well they beat opponents. That's why yesterday's twenty
point win was beneficial, and that's why they need to
absolutely crush the Las Vegas.

Speaker 6 (25:14):
Raiders this week.

Speaker 2 (25:15):
Don't even make it a ball game seven one three, two,
one two, five seven ninety all three faces. As CJ said,
we're working well. Texans. Get the win LV this week
at the Chargers the following Saturday, and then closing out
the year against the Colts. What will the Colts be
playing for?

Speaker 6 (25:31):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (25:33):
It feels like to me the seven spots are just
about settled in the AFC, but I'm wrong because they're
still about nineteen.

Speaker 6 (25:39):
They're ten teams eligible to make the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (25:41):
Let's go to the phones and talk to Isaac at
ten thirty seven of The Matt Thomas Show with Ross Isaac,
Good morning, do you thanks for waiting.

Speaker 11 (25:48):
Good morning Matt, Thanks for taking my call. Sure, Jonathan,
I got two things, two quick things. One, I'm one
of the only probably a handful of people that are
listening to you right now that actually do know who
Jorge Jordan was. I'm one of those weirdos that watch

(26:10):
even the preseason games. So last preseason I saw him.
He was doing real good, and I think they just
you know, he took the took the most out of
his opportunity this yesterday, and you know, hopefully, hopefully they
get more reps next week. Give what he marks the rest.
And the second thing I want to say, the funniest

(26:31):
thing about the Chiefs is that Chris Jones, the defensive
and or defensive.

Speaker 12 (26:37):
Tackle for the Chiefs.

Speaker 11 (26:40):
I don't know if you saw it, but on one
of his post games, in the postgame conference or whatever,
whenever they ask him questions, he said that they still
had a fighting chance even though they're already knocked out
of the postseason contention.

Speaker 6 (26:56):
So he's not addicted in standings like I am. Is
what you're trying to tell me.

Speaker 12 (27:00):
Yeah, yeah, he's not addicted like us.

Speaker 2 (27:04):
Well, I think, first of all, I want to give
yourself a pat on the back for knowing who Jawan
and Jordan was before this week's game. So good for
you on that. Number two of the Chiefs are done.
Number three? What are the Chiefs going to be like
next year? Not that I want to spend a whole
lot of time thinking about it, but are we for
sure that Pat Mahomes be ready for the start of
next season? Those ACL injuries are pretty pretty tough injuries

(27:26):
to overcome, yep, So let them worry about that, Okay, Isaac,
thank you for the phone call. Appreciate it. Now you
live in the I think he said it's said on
the screen, live in the valley. I think the valley
is full of Cowboy fans. No it is.

Speaker 5 (27:42):
You see cowboy flies everywhere.

Speaker 2 (27:43):
I don't know why. That's weird. And by the way,
they lost last night too. Are we ready to make
the Houston Texans the lone Star States team? I mean,
it's never going to happen. But who has a more
distinguished run the last fifteen years the Texans of the Cowboys?

(28:04):
Not even's even close. Now, we had some downtimes that
used to be O'Brien air. We weren't particularly stout, although
the O'Brien loved the team in the playoffs. But man,
and guess what I did. I did this intentionally just
to see what first take was going to do. Because
I'm in at my hotel room here in Denver. I
turn it on, I'm thinking about what game are they

(28:24):
going to pick? Is their first game they're going to
talk about the Dallas Cowboys. If there was something I
could do America, because I mean, we have most people
listening to us all across the country in the iHeartRadio
app but obviously mostly Houstonians.

Speaker 6 (28:39):
If there is something I could do.

Speaker 2 (28:41):
I would wish upon a sports star that we could
take away the fandom of the Dallas Cowboys because think
about this. Last night they played Minnesota. Minnesota is probably
not making the playoffs. Dallas probably isn't making the playoffs.
Even if they want the game yesterday. I mean, they'd
have to have a lot of things going their way

(29:03):
to below average to average football teams. And that's what
Sunday Night Football is gonna give us. That any other
set of teams with those two records and those games
would have been flexed out to somebody else instead. Because
the Dallas Cowboys had this insane fan base. They'll never

(29:24):
get flexed out. They'll never give us. Think about all
the great Sunday Night games that could have had last night.
You could have had Detroit at the Rams. You could
have had Buffalo, New England, you could have had Green
Bay Denver. And I'm sure CBS and Fox are not crying.
It's spilled a tier over this. But you know what

(29:44):
I understand understanding is on this they put on below
average JJ McCarthy len Minnesota against Dak Prescott and a
Defensele's Dallas Cowboys team. What can we do. What can
we tell our friends, our neighbors are coworkers, our old

(30:05):
neighbors across this country, stop watching the Cowboys. Honestly, last
night I was watching the news networks to see what
was going on with what's happening at Brown in Providence,
Rhode Island, and obviously the news about Rob Reiner and
his wife's passing was top of mind. I spent more
time watching that because I was like, I ain't watching

(30:26):
the damn Dallas Cowboys. They're terrible then score, they can't
defend anybody came defend Minnesota. Ten forty two Matt Thomas
Show from Denver Ross is off this week. I'll still
keep his name on the on the marquet. The Matt
Thomas Show at Ross continues seven one three two one
two five Subbannati s. Somebody just asked me on Twitter, hey,

(30:48):
don't forget about John Cena's last match over the weekend.

Speaker 5 (30:52):
Ye.

Speaker 2 (30:53):
I mean, look, I don't watch a lot of current WWE.
I'm more of a retro guy, the old school stuff
thirty years ago, forty years ago. That's just because that
was the wrestling I grew up with. I respect the
hell out of Johnson. His career. Uh, but no one
should be surprised that they decided to have Johnson to
lose his last match? Is all of the great People

(31:14):
say that again?

Speaker 5 (31:15):
Is that what they're upset about him typing out?

Speaker 2 (31:18):
Yeah? M Jonathan, you know.

Speaker 6 (31:20):
I'm here to give you loads of information.

Speaker 2 (31:23):
Are you ready? The greats always lose their last match,
almost like a scripted Huh, well not almost, it's definitely scripted. Okay,
continue that the reason. And people are like, well, why
would they do that? I mean, don't you want your
guy that you you know, give him his proper uh
fame and recognition for his last match. Well, the reality

(31:46):
is this, if you're retiring and you beat somebody, how
are you supposed to and the guy that you're going
against isn't retiring. What does that say about that guy's future?
How are you supposed to sell him? Think about that
for a second. How do you try to sell the

(32:07):
guy that loses the match to a legend? But everybody,
I mean, Rick Filer lost his last match, Haul Cogan
lost his last match, John Cena, Steve All, I mean,
they all everybody loses. You have to be able to
put that and it's just kind of a right of passage,
get your get your flowers, get your claim, get your recognition,
which obviously John Cena did over the weekend. But you're

(32:30):
going to lose your last match. So that's how it
that's how it goes. Because again, if you were to
set up a wrestle match and the guy that's retiring
who's never gonna wrestle again, allegedly wins the match, then
basically you're in hell because you get this guy on
the other side who lost the match, like, oh, okay,

(32:52):
I'm gonna use him as a you.

Speaker 6 (32:53):
Know, as a you know. Yeah, it's it's it's just
not it's gunther Won tapped him out.

Speaker 2 (33:00):
Now. The only thing that's kind of creepy about it,
not creepy, but sad, is that Johnson never tapped out
on anything. I mean, he's been penned before one, two three,
But it was kind of weird that it would be
a tap out of all things, I mean, if all
things that Johnsen was not known for, with all the
holds that were allegedly put on him, he was not
known as a guy that was tapping out. So good
for john very funny, good actor. Will have an amazingly

(33:25):
successful career reading Honda commercials and doing TV and movies
things the rest of his life. And he also got
to have relationship with Nikki Bello, which you know, Mad
props to him as well. Uh seven one three two
one two five seven ninety seven one three two one
two five Sevenati Scott with us at ten fifty one
on Sports Talk seventy Scott, Good morning to you. What's

(33:47):
going on?

Speaker 12 (33:48):
What's going on?

Speaker 9 (33:49):
Matt?

Speaker 12 (33:50):
I wanted to call and talk about the state of
this season for the Texans. Well, first off, I went
to Uh, I was at the game yesterday. Nice nice
win to the nice win, taking care of business. The
crowd showed up. Well, you know, it was kind of weird.
I've never been to a game where it almost felt
like the home team's performance so early on almost like
took the crowd out of it in a way. It

(34:10):
just never felt like it was really a game. So,
I mean, it was seventeen to nothing within a matter
of minutes. But you know, the people showed up, which
I was hoping to see since we're playing so well.
But I kind of wanted to like take some reflection
back on this season. I mean, you look at two
different points in this season compared to where we are now.
So we start the season zero to three, and I

(34:32):
guess technically the season didn't necessarily feel over at that point.
I mean, we knew that it was going to be
a very long shot at that moment to turn things around,
and we were going to have to play really well.
And then you'd fast forward a few weeks and we
are three and five and we were down twenty nine
to ten with Davis Mills at quarterback heading into the

(34:53):
fourth quarter of a game against Jacksonville. To go from
that point to where we are now nine and five,
and not only at nine and five, if we were
to take some reflection from the beginning of this season.
This year we have gone three and zero against the Bills,
Ravens and Chiefs, which I know the Ravens and Chiefs
have had up and down seasons. But if we told

(35:13):
ourselves that at the beginning of the season we would
have Super Bowl aspirations, which I did want to say
on that you know, from my personal realistic super Bowl
realism meter, I guess you should say, for the Texans,
how much of a realistic chance do I personally feel
they have? This is the highest I've personally felt about
their realistic shot to get to the super Bowl since

(35:36):
pre Monday Night massacre. If you remember that game against
the New England Patriots, we lost like forty two to fourteen,
when we were eleven and one. Prior to that game,
I felt like that team had a very legitimate shot
to go to the super Bowl, even though that was
an illusion. Now they had a very realistic chance to
get there for about a minute and a half when
they were up twenty four to zero against the Chiefs

(35:56):
in the Division Round where they blew that. But this
team I think has its most legitimate path to get
to the super Bowl probably ever because at eleven in
one team it was a mirage. They actually had no
shot to beat the Patriots, just like the twenty four
game against the Chiefs, who really had no shot to
beat them. So I mean, and to think that we're

(36:17):
having that conversation, or at least I feel that way
after the way this season started is almost kind of
confusing a little bit. You know what, they'll be ups
and downs of this season, but proud of the guys.

Speaker 2 (36:28):
They did well.

Speaker 12 (36:30):
God, this is just an exciting time. We'll see how
it finishes up.

Speaker 2 (36:33):
Thanks Matt, thank you for the phone call. The reality
is it has been two different seasons. Teams don't typically
make the playoffs when they go on to two. Teams
really don't typically make the playoffs when they go on three.
And as Scott just brought up, you were down three

(36:54):
scores to the Jacksonville Jaguars and put together on Elasia's
fourth quarter. It saved your season. It saved your vibe.
It took a lot of pressure, probably off of Nick Cassio.
It kept Callan Hahannah happy. Y'all were happier, and they

(37:18):
have been bulldozing their way towards one victory after.

Speaker 6 (37:22):
The other with that game.

Speaker 2 (37:25):
The Baltimore game, to me, doesn't count. I think we're
logically thinking football fans, that was beating up a very bad,
injured jury plague team, which you have Cooper Rush playing
the quarterback at that dame. That doesn't count. The Buffalo
game absolutely counts. The Kansas City game, even though the
Chiefs are who now are out of the playoffs, that counts.

(37:46):
You went on a Sunday night in cold Kansas City
and won that game. That absolutely counts. Beating up the
Niners earlier in the year that absolutely counts. You got
a lot of very, very impressive wins. There is nothing
flucish about where this team is right now. Had there
been some closer games than you want, would you have

(38:08):
loved to blown out blow out a Tennessee, of course?
Would you like to have one more offensive series against Denver? Yes?
But the reality is this. It's a football team that
picked themselves up, didn't stare at the scoreboard, didn't look
at the trends about teams that open up the year

(38:29):
and three. And I will give Demico a lot of
credit in one particular thing. Sometimes some coaches give you
this speak of well, we only take it one game
at a time, or we only look at what's in
front of us. A lot of that is garbage, A
lot of that is coach speak. In my mind, I
believe he's being genuine about this, I really do. And

(38:52):
I think that kind of mentality has helped this football team.
And oh, by the way, you've got an excellent defense.
Let's not forget that this defense is legendary. This defense
is and sometimes artificially props up the offense. But in
yesterday's case, it was a good offense. It was a
really good offense that scored when they wanted to, could

(39:16):
have even scored more. But you could probably say that
with a lot of different teams. Yesterday was, to me
was the biggest case of don't let a subpar, bad
football team think they're decent. Tampa Bay's got a problem
with that, Tampa Bay. If you're a Buccaneers fan today,
which I'm assuming there's like three of you in ten
in Houston are Buccaneers fans? The last two weeks, they

(39:40):
have seen the New Orleans Saints come in their building
and win a football game that's terrible. And they saw
Atlanta on a home Thursday night game win that game.
They're feeling the opposite way. You had trash in front
of you and you didn't take it out. The Texan
took out the trash, and good for them, and they

(40:01):
deserve their prompts for that period into story.

Speaker 6 (40:03):
Now, do they have as good a chance as anybody
to win the AFC?

Speaker 2 (40:08):
Yes? But what's going with that? And I would say
this if I was doing Buffalo sports radio, if I
was doing Denver sports radio, if I was doing Jacksonville
sports radio, the team that you followed, the team that
you love, has just as much of a chance to
win the AFC as it has to being bounced in
the first round. I know Jacksonville's feeling great. They disposed

(40:29):
of the god awful Jets yesterday. But let's be honest,
that are you if you've been a Jacksonville fan, do
you really think you can run the table the rest
of the way.

Speaker 6 (40:42):
I don't think so.

Speaker 2 (40:43):
I wouldn't be in that position if I were them,
because I still don't think Trevor Lawrence is very good.
I don't care if his numbers have been better in
the last couple weeks. I ain't buying it. Is the
Matt Thomas Show with Ross the eleven oh three Sports

(41:03):
Talk seven ninety believe it or not today one point
fifty half about Dick van Dyke, half about the Late
Day war who passed away over the weekend. Uh, Dick
van Dyke turning one hundred looks good, sounds good. I mean,
if you can give me one hundred Dick van Dyke,
I'd be happy with that. I think I would be.

(41:23):
I don't know, we'll see.

Speaker 3 (41:25):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (41:25):
Also, we've got Monday Night football tonight. I look Miami Pittsburgh. Honestly, Uh,
Miami needs to run the table and get some help
us that they want to stay in Pittsburgh, fighting with
Baltimore for first place in the AFC North. You've got
the Rockets and the Nuggets tonight. That game is on
Sports Talk seven ninety. We'll help the game coverage beginning

(41:46):
at seven thirty with a tiptime of eight thirty here
from the Mile High City seven one three two one
two five, seven ninety. If you want to chime in
phone lines or open at seven one three two one
two five seven nine zer main story up line of
the day. Obviously, we're talking about and discussing the Texans
performance against the Arizona Cardinals yesterday forty to twenty. They win.

Speaker 4 (42:09):
C J.

Speaker 2 (42:10):
Stroud a really effective day, and I guess I wanna
throw a question out and would like to get your
comments at seven to one three two one two five
seven auty. There were a lot of people. I would
not put myself in that category. Sometimes I put myself
in things in categories. Been this particular particular case, I

(42:30):
would not. I think there are there were people that
were really taking an opportunity with this, with the uh
good play of Davis Mills, the concussion and the mixed
bag of work by uh CJ to say, you know what,
maybe CJ ain't all that.

Speaker 6 (42:52):
I thought it was really unfair. Has CJ been perfect?

Speaker 4 (42:56):
No?

Speaker 2 (42:56):
Has CJ progressed to the levels that you wanted to progres,
especially after his rookie season buying large? No, But I
don't think the term poor in CJ. Stroud has should
ever be brought up in a conversation. Of course, our
poor throws, but even the best quarterbacks in the NFL
make poor throws missed opportunities. Yeah, But honestly, when you really,

(43:20):
if you really wanted to think about it for a second,
could you say, give me a great quarterback who has
a subpar offensive line and a non existent running game
and say that guy is going to perform up with expectations. Now,
some could say, well, Joe Burrow did it, but Joe
Burrow means been often hurt. They look terrible yesterday. Again,

(43:45):
a lot of that is because they've got no defense.
But he's never had an offensive line and he's still
been successful. So I mean, if you wanted to say
that Joe Burrow's exception to that rule that I just
gave you, Okay, I could someone buy that but again,
attendance is a large part of the of the great
and he's missed a lot of time in his NFL.
But I really thought, and look, we're all entownled to

(44:06):
our opinions, and sometimes we go off with opinions that
we we jump ahead of things way before we should.

Speaker 6 (44:13):
We don't let things play.

Speaker 2 (44:14):
Out, because that's what sports do, that's what sports fandom does,
and we even do it here on this show. But
I really thought it was unfair that some of the way,
some of the things that were said about he just
doesn't have it.

Speaker 6 (44:25):
He's not that guy.

Speaker 2 (44:29):
And there's a small part of all of us that say,
you know what, we'd like for him to take that
next progression. We wanted to be the Josh Allen of
the NFL. We'd like for him to be the really
good Lamar Jackson of the NFL. We'd like him to
have the sustained success that say a Matthew Stafford has

(44:49):
and because you're about to pay him like that, not
you in theory, but the team's about to And that's
what we've talked about.

Speaker 6 (44:57):
And if you listen to any NFL show, you know
that the.

Speaker 2 (45:01):
Best teams succeed when their quarterback is typically on their
rookie contract because that allows you to spend money on
other positions and not have so much tied up into
one position.

Speaker 6 (45:13):
Even the Kansas City Chiefs.

Speaker 2 (45:16):
Struck a deal to make you know, Pat Mahomes as
rich as a humanly could with a half billion dollar
deal five hundre million dollars when he signed it a
few years back. But even that allowed him them a
little bit of grace. The NFL dollar that is being
put on quarterbacks, the Dak Prescotts of the world, you know,
the Lamar Jackson's. Ultimately, you know, all the all the

(45:37):
up and combers, they're all getting paid up scene amounts
of money. Now that shouldn't be a concern to you,
but it is. But roster construction is. And if the
team is ever going to really take that next step
and be just a wild card or an AFC soule
team to a legitimate championship team, you need to have
success in all three phases of the game. Defense goes

(46:01):
without saying how.

Speaker 6 (46:02):
Good this team is.

Speaker 2 (46:03):
Special teams got me fairbrand's been good, Tommy Towns has
been pretty good. Coverage teams and we got none nice
long run run back yesterday in the game that feels
like for the most part, it's pretty settled nicely, except
the one kick that was blocked yesterday. But you're looking
for CJ, if you're gonna, if the team's gonna put all.

Speaker 6 (46:22):
This money in him to take that next step.

Speaker 2 (46:24):
And I thought yesterday, granted again it was Arizona, and
granted it's a team that's mailing it in and has
no interest in the playoffs and can't get there if
they wanted to. There was no natural letdown. There was
no come on, CJ, you're better than this. It's you're
better than beating an area, than hanging around Arizona like

(46:45):
they are they and they should show that again next
week against Las Vegas because the Raiders are equally woeful.
So I would say, for all of you that were
hinting at are we doing the right thing with CJ?
Are we really gonna put a lot of money in? Unfortunately,
you're gonna have to because that's what part of the
business is. But I thought yesterday, not necessarily it was

(47:05):
a turning point, but a thought of man, he's got
his mojo back, and he doesn't have an great offensive line.
It's a good offensive line, but not a great one,
and all I got sack one time. The running game
gave you something. And whether it's Jordan, or it's Woody
Marx or whomever else you got, you're starting to get

(47:26):
a little bit more hope. If the Texans offense can
stay average the rest of the year, meaning Nico Collins
is involved, Dalton Schultz is involved, you get some assemblance
of a running game. You got a shot because, honestly,

(47:47):
if we were to listen to old air checks of
this show, and I was able to listen to old
conversations you had with your buddies, even your diehard Texans
buddies you hang out with on Sunday and go to
the games with, you knew you were gonna beat Josh Allen,
Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, Pat Mahomes and some of those
guys are strown the way. But you feel as good

(48:11):
now about this team that you probably have in a
long period of time. And isn't the you know, the
crazy part of all this his gang? You feel great,
But right now, if the playoffs were to start today,
you'd be in, but you'd be the last wild card.
Isn't that crazy? The last wild card, the number seventh

(48:31):
seed that would have to go play at New England.
Now things could seriously shuffle between now and the end
of the regular season. But you're in a spot where
you're the seventh seed in the AFC, not just happy
to be here, not just getting in by the skin
of your teeth, but you feel like they're in. Anybody
in front of you you can't beat. And I don't

(48:52):
think we've felt like this in a long, long period
of time. I just don't you tell me when you
felt as good as you have about this squad and
where they are and the way they're playing. Johnny on
The Matt Thomas Show with Ross Johnny, good morning.

Speaker 7 (49:06):
Yeah, you know, I think we were watching two different
games because I don't remember how many field goals that
we went for inside of the thirty because we couldn't
score touchdown yesterday. But it reminds me of a really
good quarterback we had on the team, Matt Shaw. He
was great statistically, a bit terrible in the red zone.
So god forbid, that's what's happening, you know, this team

(49:28):
on the offense. But that's all I had about the
performance yesterday and overall, how it's been looking in the
I don't want to call it the red zone, but
you know, inside of the thirty, you know, we're not
performing as well as no indeed.

Speaker 2 (49:43):
Yeah, And the reality is this, Johnny, it's been a
season long problem. But it has been a season. But
some of those kicks yesterday were I mean, we're of
good distance. They weren't like at the three yard line,
not getting being able to get in. I mean they
did into the end zone a bunch of times yesterday.
I mean they did score a rushing touchdown on the
direc snap to what he marks. It's it's by no
means exemplary, no means right, it's getting a little bit better.

Speaker 7 (50:09):
I was just gonna say, you know, it's a question
just getting that next first down right to keep moving
the ball. He's closer, but we're not able to do that,
so we're not getting the next first down to stay,
you know, to get into the red zone. We're close
enough right there, just in fuego distance.

Speaker 2 (50:25):
Great, you know, but that's why I said, and that's
why said Johnny. You know, yeah, that's why, Johnny, it's
an average offense. It's it's an average offense. It's not
exemporary it's not above average. It's an average offense. And
the question is but an average offense there, what's that?

Speaker 7 (50:40):
But we're judging the quarterback though, and what he's been
unable to do and find that receiver.

Speaker 4 (50:47):
It's what's hampering the progress of the offense.

Speaker 7 (50:50):
Is you know, he just for some reason is holding
onto the ball too long. He's not finding the open guy.

Speaker 4 (50:56):
You know.

Speaker 7 (50:56):
But that's where the judgment comes into play for him
in particular as the quarterback for this team. Is is
he going to be worth the money?

Speaker 4 (51:05):
You know?

Speaker 2 (51:06):
Well, I just don't think he earned it right now.

Speaker 6 (51:09):
I mean, but he's but he's but you know what,
And I've argue with Ross about this, Johnny, thanks for
the call. He's gonna get it.

Speaker 2 (51:16):
Because unless I mean, do you want to go go
get a rookie quarterback? Do you want to go made
trade for another one? I mean, those are all things
that are a bit definite possibilities. I think a better
offensive line in assemble semence of a mainstream RB one
meaning number one running back is going to help this
team significantly. Eleven twelve of the Matt Thomas Show, Ross

(51:38):
we hear from Dimiko Ryan's next let US seventeen, you know,
Matt Thomas Show with Ross. I'm here in Denver for
Rockets and Nuggets tonight. I was I gonna tell you
Demico is gonna speak in a couple of minutes, getting
late word from the Packers that let's see, oh there
weren't a Christian Wattinson injury.

Speaker 6 (52:00):
That's the least of their concerns.

Speaker 2 (52:03):
Green Bay in a tough spot there after losing their
key defensive players. So we'll get to more of that
in the NFL a little bit later on the show.
But really, yeah, I mean the CJ And look, I've
talked about this with Ross before. It's gonna be a tough,
tough ask for him to get his you know, and

(52:26):
he's got a tough agent, David Mulligant is gonna want
everything that all the elite quarterbacks are getting. But any
money the Texans can save can be put towards other people.
But that's that's something from down the road. You won
a super Bowl, Nobey's gonna care about you pay the
guy you get to the super Bowl. For that matter,
no one's gonna pay care. But if he goes out

(52:46):
in the dud and look, you know, as I said before,
the Texans have just as good a chance of running
the table as they do getting bounce out in the
first round. Dan, let me tell you something. The three
teams are gonna have home field advantage in the first
round of the in the first or second round of
the playoffs. I mean, they're winning a boatload of games
for a reason. I mean they are doing I mean

(53:09):
the standings right now. Look who's up there. You've got
Denver twelve and two beat a really good Green Bay
team yesterday. New England eleven and three just lost it
for the first time in eleven weeks. Jacksonville ain't scared.
Pittsburgh and or Baltimore, however, wins the AFC North don't

(53:29):
particularly care. But the Chargers with a huge win at
Kansas City. I mean, if we're gonna if we're gonna
give praise the Texas for winning at Kansas City, gotta
do the same thing for the Chargers. Buffalo goes to
New England and ends their long winning streak. They're at
ten and four, even though we saw how mediocre they
looked against the Texans at home, and then you got

(53:50):
the old Houston Texans at nine and five.

Speaker 6 (53:53):
Just lucky enough to be in the playoffs. Isn't that crazy?

Speaker 2 (53:56):
But I'll say this, it's happening in the NFC two
the number seven seed, the team that's barely in.

Speaker 6 (54:05):
Is the Green Bay Packers. They're nine four and one.

Speaker 2 (54:11):
The Detroit Lions, a team that a lot of folks
thought could win the whole NFC, they're out of the playoffs.
That the playoffs began today, Dallas still alive. Carolina maybe
one of the hottest teams right now in the NFL.
They've still got an opportunity. There are gonna be some
really pretty decent football teams not making the playoffs this year,
And honestly, it's just because you've just got a remember,

(54:35):
you gotta remember this is a situation where you've got
a lot of talent football teams. And oh, by the way,
in twenty twenty five, the bottom end teams Supersuck, Arizona, Vegas,
the Jets. Who else is super terrible this year? I'm
trying to think of the standings here. Who else is awful? Oh?
The Giants, Washington, New Orleans, Tennessee, hot Mess, Cleveland. I mean,

(54:59):
the bottom four teams have either two or three wins,
So That's why the Upper Achealon is so competitive, because
they were all beating up on the second these second
tier teams. This will be the most anticipated playoffs we've had,
at least for the Houston perspective, in ten years, safe

(55:19):
to say, right, because it felt like for the longest
period of time you were worried about the Patriots winning.
Then you have a long stretch of games where you
were worried about the Chiefs winning every year. I mean,
bow Knicks they win, and they're really good, and they
put up a boatload of points yesterday. I was here

(55:39):
in Denver to watch the fourth quarter of that. But
they're new to this. They lost their first playoff game
last year. I mean, his bo Think about it, who
of all the quarterbacks that are in front of the
Texans and the AFC, who scares the most, honestly, in
anybody that's got a division lead.

Speaker 6 (55:59):
Nicks can be human, Drake may can be human.

Speaker 2 (56:03):
Pittsburgh Aaron Rodgers. Eh Now, if Lamar Jackson all of
a sudden heals up in the next handful of weeks
and they go on and win the AFC North, that could.

Speaker 6 (56:11):
Be a problem.

Speaker 2 (56:13):
I ain't afraid of Trevor Lawrence to me, now that
my Kansas City pick has gone by the wayside, I'm
perhaps a little more nervous about Buffalo. But we saw
how bad Buffalo's run defenses, did we not? And Buffalo
on the road, different football team they are at home,

(56:33):
although yesterday they just spelled a lot of.

Speaker 6 (56:35):
That by winning the game at New England. This is
you know what, this is kind of cool.

Speaker 2 (56:42):
The Texans were able to bounce back from being down
zero three to get into the playoff. Because I'll tell
you what, if the Texans didn't make the playoffs this year,
and they still could, they could still lose the rest
of their.

Speaker 6 (56:51):
Games and come out and be out of it. So
here I am presuming these things.

Speaker 2 (56:55):
But could you imagine how pissed off we'd be as
a sports society if the one year that the camp
To City Chiefs were knocked out, that the Texans didn't
have a chance to get in there, and that there's,
by the way, no superior team in the AFC, A
lot of really good teams. But I'm telling you right now,
if we're doing Buffalo Bill's sports radio to day, our
mojo is back. We went and we Buffalo went to

(57:18):
New England won a game. Denver doesn't lose anymore Denver.
Good Green Bay team coming in wins that game. And
I'll tell you what the winner of Jacksonville Denver this
week when they play each other here in Denver on Sunday,
they're gonna feel really good about themselves too, because they're
gonna be knocking off a playoff team. Honestly, beating Arizona yesterday,

(57:43):
no great shakes, right, you kind of had to do
it and thankful of the Texas and not played down
with the competition. You're not gonna get a hole on
a momentum off of beating the Raiders because the Raiders
held they they may be so bad that Pete Carroll
decides to retire after the game on Sunday. That's how
badman they would to Philadelphia didn't even score a point.

(58:06):
That's the negative about this little run is that there
have been good wins Buffalo, Kansas City, Baltimore. You got
really one more good shot to get a chest beating
kind of win. That's gonna be in Los Angeles a
couple weeks against Chargers. Because that Week eighteen game against Indianapolis,

(58:26):
it may not mean anything because if you beat them,
and the Colts are out of the playoffs. They're not
gonna care about putting anybody out there. And if you
have nothing to play for it because your seating is
already set, then you're not. You'll get nothing accomplish your
sup except to make sure nobody gets hurt. That's the
funny thing I saw on Twitter yesterday is there were
people that were like, hey, can we take the week
off against the Raiders? Can we give some of our
second tier guys an opportunity to get some time off

(58:49):
or our first year guys. The answer is no, you
gotta go beat the Raiders.

Speaker 5 (58:53):
Yeah, you got That's well.

Speaker 2 (58:55):
I mean, you gotta beat them early. You got to
you gotta make it thirty five to three early, right,
guys in they can't make it a ball.

Speaker 5 (59:02):
Some people think NFL is like basketball too much. You
don't you gotta play. You gotta win these games. Starters,
you know they get pay for that reason, right, you
gotta get that regular season win. I don't know.

Speaker 2 (59:11):
Yeah, and the first time you start, like when the
Rockets play the Jazz, Oh, the Jazz beat you know,
beat them by twenty five in the first half, so
you can have Jay Shaun Taine and Jeff Green play
the second half. It doesn't work that way unless you
force it. Your talent is significantly more in Houston than
it is in Las Vegas. There should be no issue

(59:32):
in beating the.

Speaker 6 (59:32):
Raiders this week.

Speaker 2 (59:33):
I think the Texans are a fourteen and a half
point favorite, So yeah, the goal should be to beat
them one and number two. Don't look bad doing it,
crush them. But you'd like to be able to create
that storyline. You don't know. Maybe Las Vegas comes in
and says, hey, we look like dog crap against Phildelphia.
We got to improve ourselves. We got to improve ourselves

(59:55):
and save our coaches job, if that even even the case.
Or maybe you're just significantly better than there and you
beat them up so you can give your guys some
time off. But I wouldn't count on it. That's the
silliest thing you can do, all right. We were hoping
to get the press conference underway with they've been going
more like to eleven thirty.

Speaker 6 (01:00:13):
I don't know what's going on on that, but.

Speaker 2 (01:00:15):
Whatever seven one three two one two five seven ninety
seven one three two one two five seven ninetie we
are the news at noon coming up and at twelve
thirty today we'll have to tell the truth where I
have four sports takes. I believe three of them, one
I don't believe, and if you can figure out which
one I don't believe, we'll have got some nice prizes
for you. We also believe it or not today at

(01:00:36):
one point fifty uh. We also want to get into
the Heisman stuff too. If you caught the ceremony over
the weekend, I did not. I did see the reaction
after the loser was unhappy. That was the bar.

Speaker 6 (01:00:47):
The club part, well, I saw they get Instagram video.

Speaker 2 (01:00:50):
If you just if that's what you're asking.

Speaker 5 (01:00:51):
You, that's I can't wait to talk about that's true.

Speaker 2 (01:00:53):
We talk about that. I want to say that because
I want to make sure you have plenty enough time
to pray in that seven one three two one two
five seven ninety If you want to join our conversation
seven one three two one two five seven niney Again,
we are standing by Fordamico Ryan's press conference. It is
eleven twenty six and it's we appreciate listening to us
on a Monday on the Matt Thomash ol Ross here
on Sports Talk seven ninety. Ye, Well, tax is not

(01:01:20):
providing the video feed of the press conference, so even
when they do, we'll go into that and realize Hannah
had a podcast. It's called On the fifty with Hannah McNair.
H I did not know that. Also, congratulations to Total
forgetting his being in the mascot Hall of Fame. HM.

(01:01:43):
Things you look at when you look at the huge
I don't. I don't ever go to the Texans website,
all right, So if Johnath can find that feed, we'll
be happy to put that up there coming up in
just a few minutes. Since we don't have it, we
will be going to you at seven one three two
one two five seven nine seven one three two five
seven ninety We got to tell the truth coming up

(01:02:04):
in a one hour from now, the news at noon
in thirty minutes and believe it or not, today at
one fifty. Uh, let's say what what the thing is.
I'm in a tough spot here because I don't want
to go into something too deep and then it's interrupted
because of if we find the feed, what do we
want to do here? We got the rockets I mentioned tonight,
we got uh. We talked about the AFC playoff race

(01:02:28):
we got. Oh, things are kind of quiet on the
Astros front.

Speaker 13 (01:02:35):
I just.

Speaker 2 (01:02:38):
I think there are some of you, and I continue
to get these messages from you all through emails or
direct messages about why is Dana Brown sitting on his hands?
Why isn't Dana Brown doing this, doing this, doing this? Well,
you know, get somebody else in there. Do y'all really
think that Dana's really sitting on his hands, that he's
just letting these letting these a shelf a topless guys

(01:03:02):
going on from team to team to team. Are you
wanting them to overspend on from ber Valdez? Are you
wanting them to get back in the and convinced Alex
Bregman to come back. I don't get why everybody's so cranky. Look,
there are fair criticisms to general managers of all sports,
and that would include Caserra, that would include for fell

(01:03:24):
Stone and obviously uh Dana with the Astros. But you're
number one guy, Hunter Brown is locked and loaded. You
hope you're number two guy this year can be Christian Havier.
You've got a lot of other guys coming off of injury,
the hope that can bounce back. You're in the mix
with some names that are you know, Shane Boz has

(01:03:45):
been a guy that's been talked about a little bit.
I don't think that Dana has hidden the fact that
he's willing to trade current members of the team to
go get starting pitching. There has been talk about Justin
Verlenna coming back, and Justin had a good second half
of the year, and Justin obviously has strong affinity towards Houston,
and there's quite a few of you that are still
Justin Verlander fans. But you know, I don't know. I'm curious,

(01:04:13):
do you do you think he's on a vacation somewhere?
Is he is he in the one country? Or is
he trying to manipulate the roster for next year and
figure out what his boss says he can spend what
is tradable commodities. You We've talked about this before. The
Astros don't have a minor league system of anybody that's

(01:04:35):
really worthy of giving up right now. Either they're not
deep enough in terms of numbers of players, or they're
not ready to go yet, or the Astros want to
keep these people. So it does take time.

Speaker 6 (01:04:49):
And if you've noticed in the last couple of years.

Speaker 2 (01:04:51):
Gang, some of these free agent moves don't come until
close to spring training. I mean we're not even at
the calendar turn yet. Don't you think that Kyle Tucker
would like to know where he's playing next year? Don't
you think doesn't? Don't don't you think that Justin Verlonder
would like to know where he's playing next year? Where
Alex bre I'm gonna like to know where he's playing

(01:05:12):
from Burvaldez. It's it's not just the Astros just sitting
and waiting back. They just got back from the winter meetings.
Now will there be some decisions to be made and
will there be some moving around? Yes?

Speaker 6 (01:05:24):
And frankly, you know the name that keeps being brought
up in terms of trades, Dake Myers.

Speaker 2 (01:05:29):
To me, I think the biggest question mark about this
year's team is how are you going to decongest the infield,
because just still, even though Ureus is gone, even though
Mauricio Dubon is gone, you still have won too many
players and you can't. It will not sound, it will
sound overly simplistic to just move East SoC parties around

(01:05:53):
from position to position to position. That doesn't make any sense.
And I think Dana knows that there's that it's too
much talent for being a utility player. Eastsich Copartians can
start for probably twenty Major League Baseball teams provided is
his hamstring is healthy. So I mean, I get one

(01:06:15):
guy in particular who just wears me out, and I
almost want to tell him stop as stop sending me
stuff because again, besides Dodgers, who else has been aggressive?
I mean, who else has made these seismic changes to
change your baseball team around?

Speaker 4 (01:06:33):
Now?

Speaker 2 (01:06:33):
Baltimore got a new first basement pen, a Lonzo. I
get that that was a pretty significant deal. Dodgers added
a reliever Edwin Diez. But you still have a lot
of megastars gang that are still looking for work, and
if and if how things have turned out the last
couple of years, we may not get a decision until
January early February. So for anybody that's just not necessarily

(01:06:59):
wearing me out. But with your buddies and you're talking
about well what if, yes, you're doing anything, My guess
is they're going to do something. It's just not gonna
be in your timeline. They've got to go add starting
pitching that goes without saying they've got to decongest their infield.
That really now, that may not happen immediately, but it's

(01:07:19):
going to happen eventually, and then you've got to figure
out what the hell is going to be that.

Speaker 6 (01:07:25):
Starting out field for twenty twenty five.

Speaker 2 (01:07:27):
Even if indeed you do twenty six, I should say,
even if you died, do move Jake Myers. So for
all of you that are impatient Astro fans, as my
friend Aaron Rodgers would say, take a deep breath and relax,
because if the Superstars can't figure out where they're playing
just yet, the mid level players that the Astros are

(01:07:50):
trying to look for and trying to acquire, they're certainly
waiting their turn. Two seven one three two one two
five seven ninety seven one three two one two five
seven nine zero. Sounds like we're not going to get
the press conference, which is sad because I wanted to
hear what Dimiko had to say, anything on the injury front, whatnot.
It was it strange scene as much as what he

(01:08:11):
Mark's going in out of the ten as much as
he did yesterday during the game. Let's go to Roger
on seven nine eleven thirty eight. Roger, good morning, Oh,
good morning, Matt.

Speaker 14 (01:08:22):
Yeah, it's just sad weekend, over the weekend of Dave
Ward and Rob Ryner passing. It's just want to say
that anyway, And with the Texans fan mission accomplished. This
is something I wanted them to do, called like a
like a glorified screamage. They got through with it unscathed.
Everybody looked sharper, defense looked okay, and hey, go on

(01:08:43):
to the next one and get another easy win hopefully
and finish the seas sorong and try to get a playoff.
Push man, I'm so happy that these guys are finally
looking like a well rounded team again. So under the astros,
somebody's going under the radar very quietly. I don't know
it's quietly, but there's a bat that I would love

(01:09:03):
to put in the put in the roster. It's a
quality of that. This guy is always ten ten pitches
minimum every time he gets to the play. That's Luisa Rise.
I know we got to cut it infield, but I
just god, I'd like to somehow, some way if a
dand Brown, can you know, work some magic man trying
to get this guy. He's I'm the cheap right now,

(01:09:24):
and it's just a bad I would like to see
in that line. That makes sense, Man, I just all
over there, had Matt on a good Monday.

Speaker 6 (01:09:31):
But Roger, what I just say about the infield, I know.

Speaker 14 (01:09:35):
I just know what them anyway, So you want to add.

Speaker 2 (01:09:39):
Extra infield that's already crowded to begin with. I guess
the answer is yes, he wants to do that. No,
the Asters are in no need of infield. No, it's
not gonna happen.

Speaker 4 (01:09:56):
Now.

Speaker 2 (01:09:58):
I'm trying to think that is a rise ever playing
the outfield. He means still a free agent right now.
Just finished up a season with the Podres three sixteen
his career batting average. He's really good and it's a
three time all Star, three time batting This isn't no,
this is a mood conversation. The Astros are not looking

(01:10:19):
for any infield help unless they go like you know,
unless they move several players, and they move Christian Walker
and they were to move East like partties in two
separate deals. That funny, That's the last thing I would
have thought it was. I know this guy's really good,
I know he plays the infil but I still want
the askers gonna No, they're trying to rid themselves of

(01:10:42):
an infield and not add to it. Let me go
to Vince at eleven forty one on seven on Evince
what he got today?

Speaker 4 (01:10:49):
Hey, I hate to hate to change the subject, but
did you catch the Spurs Oklahoma City game the other night?

Speaker 2 (01:10:55):
Uh? Spurs Oklahoma said, I did not? You mean the
in the semifinal game in Las Vegas. Yes.

Speaker 4 (01:11:03):
Now, I'm going to tell you something that that had
to be one of the best basketball games I've ever seen.
Just the intensity, the competitiveness, the plays and players were making.
It was incredible, an incredible game. The Spurs, the coach there,
he's doing an incredible job with those guys. Wimby did
not start. He didn't play until the second quarter, teolks.

(01:11:26):
How he did, he was a plus twenty and they
only won by like I want, I want to say
four points. He was a plus twenty when he was
on the floor, and I think he played probably around
twenty minutes.

Speaker 2 (01:11:37):
I think he had what twenty one points in twenty
two minutes something similar to that.

Speaker 4 (01:11:41):
Yeah, yeah, exactly, But he was a plus twenty and
every and the rest of the team was a minus
twenty three.

Speaker 5 (01:11:46):
It's just, you know, it's just.

Speaker 4 (01:11:48):
Incredible what he was doing out there. And uh, but
you know, and one other point about that game, the
farm Castle he was picked one pick after Reid Shepherd
and man that I love read, but man, I think
we missed on that one.

Speaker 2 (01:12:08):
Well. Castle was a Rookie of the Year in the
NBA last year. So yeah, it's Vince. Here's the thing
that scares me. Santennial is really good, really really well,
really good. And now again Wimby's gotta stay healthy. But hell,
they won games of that Wimby there. I mean, they're
just they're playing a lot better than anybody would have

(01:12:31):
thought of at this at this point in their career,
at this in their development, their franchise, they're they're excellent.

Speaker 4 (01:12:37):
Yeah, I said, that's that that that coach is doing
a next fun job with that squad.

Speaker 5 (01:12:41):
So pretty pretty impressive.

Speaker 4 (01:12:43):
If you get a chance, check out some of the highlights,
some of the play, If you get a chance, check
out some of the highlights, some of the plays, those
shots that Wimby made. It was just a phenomenal game.
And I've been watching the NBA for a very long
long time.

Speaker 2 (01:12:57):
So I'll tell you what too. Fox has been really
good for them too. I mean there, that's that's just
a really well runded basketball team.

Speaker 5 (01:13:04):
And that's way one other point, one other point.

Speaker 4 (01:13:06):
That was the first time that the Aaron Fox and
Wimby played played the game together.

Speaker 2 (01:13:11):
So you know this year that comes to zero surprise
because both those guys have been hurt for periods of time.

Speaker 4 (01:13:17):
Yeah yeah, so just go show you anyway, thanks for
the time, Okay, thank you.

Speaker 2 (01:13:21):
Nice here for me, and I'm I don't want to
give any any faint praise to the San Antonio Spurs,
but you gotta be realist sometimes, and they're excellent.

Speaker 6 (01:13:29):
They're playing for the champions. They're eighteen and seven.

Speaker 2 (01:13:34):
So here we are sitting here talking about Minnesota and
Denver and the Los Angeles Lakers and your Rockets and
Oklahoma City and here's old San Antonio. Hey wait about
us Castle Visel Fox. I mean they their first round pick.
Dylan Harper comes off the bench. I'm sick to my stomach. Now,

(01:14:00):
all right, help me out now, I'm in a bad mood.
That's all I need is Spurs love. No, not not
that that's the caller's fault, but damn they're good. We
can't have that. I'm having a hard enough.

Speaker 6 (01:14:13):
Time living with with Oklahoma City being as good as
they are.

Speaker 2 (01:14:17):
All Right, we're gonna send Jonathan on a chase and
s if we get that press commerce, at least get
some of the things in d and of course the
show because when things are going well, you gotta listen
to coach, and when things are grumpy, he'll, you know,
say a few things that will you know, moving on
to different stuff. But you know, when things are well,
we gonna play with You know, we're we are the

(01:14:38):
objective home of Texans football. So in good times, we're
here in bad times, and when things are good, we
gonna play it. So Johnathan, if you can keep searching it,
let's get to the Heisman story from over the weekend.
Because Jonathan, you saw that, you saw the IG video
or did you watch the whole thing? I just saw
a snippet of it. I just saw a of the
IG story. I think. All right, So congratulations goes out

(01:15:00):
to the Heisman Trophy winner and that's the quarterback from Indiana,
Fanna Mendoza. Right, Diego Pavia was a runner up and
very successful quarterback at Vanderbilt, right, I mean, I'm not
saying it's not true at this point. So apparently Diego
Pavia was not pleased that he didn't win, and he

(01:15:23):
went to his Instagram account and he said, if all
the voters and he's had the sense apologize for that,
I got terrible news for you, Diego Pavia. If you

(01:15:45):
if you're disappointed about net one in the Heisman, imagine
when your life's going to be like at the NFL
draft when you don't get trapped in the top ten picks.
What I don't know, I don't know. It's a reputation.

Speaker 5 (01:16:03):
I mean, yeah, did you not see the video two
of him like a bar or section and then that
was like bottle girls around and you know how they
have those like flashing words or like a board electric
board with like words he can say like happy birthday
or whatever. He had f Indiana on there as well
while he was trying to celebrate. Now he had his
bros with t said he hit his offensive line away

(01:16:24):
the whole time.

Speaker 2 (01:16:28):
That's crazy. I couldn't believe that. I mean, don't you think,
first of all, he's twenty two to twenty three years old.
I mean he knows that between right and wrong. Doesn't
he also know that everything that he ever does publicly
is going to be seen. I mean, there is not
a moment in pobvious life, at least for the next
few years, that people will see where he does and

(01:16:50):
they're gonna videotape it, or he's gonna film it himself.
Because today's children, these young adults are are infatuated with
their social media post. What did he think was going
to happen? Don't you think somebody from like maybe the
the Vanderbilt public relations department who was maybe there with him,
would have said, Hey, when you lose this thing, because

(01:17:11):
you're probably not the favorite, but when you lose act
with grace, don't go running around on Instagram talk about
f the voters. Just guess what those voters are going
to do. They're gonna write stories about you. They're not
going to be speaking of you in with good commentary.

(01:17:34):
You know, Look, I can get it to dumb kids
doing dumb mistakes, but I'm going to tell you this
right now. Any college, or for that matter, any future
agent that PAVIA would train him and would tell him
act normal. Don't don't go out there and try to

(01:18:00):
ain't this narrative that you were screwed because you weren't screwed.
You had a spectacular season. But there only there's only
one winner, and not that I was sitting there looking
at the odds and who was going to win the Heisman.
But I want to say that Fernando Potman Mendoya was
considered the favorite, was he not?

Speaker 4 (01:18:16):
He was?

Speaker 2 (01:18:17):
Yeah? I mean when he wanted with there was zero
surprise to it. So this Vanderbilt quarterback is like f
the voters, He's got another year. No, he's he's the
quarterback next year too. Right, well, he could declare for
the draft. Oh my gosh, I you know what? Did

(01:18:45):
I mean? Didn't And I'm looking at I'm reading a
story about it right now or did this morning? They're like,
this is what Shador Sanders caught himself with his additional
arrogance might have cost him draft spots. Now he's been
given opportunity to cut to play in Cleveland and it
has not worked out overly well though there's many issues
with it with the Browns besides the quarterback position. But

(01:19:07):
what is he?

Speaker 6 (01:19:08):
Oh my gosh.

Speaker 2 (01:19:11):
If I was his parents, I would just be like,
oh what are you doing. We're trying to improve your stock.
We're trying to add to your public relations value, not
decrease it. And to go on again. And my kids
have all on Instagram, and my daughter, you know, it's
gonna it's gonna be social active when she goes away
to school. But you just can't tell your kids enough.

(01:19:34):
You can't have people of authority telling them enough. Just
act with dignity. Take the L even an L. You
were a finalist for one of the best college football
players in the country. That's an honor. So you didn't
win it. You're upset. It's it was no great upset.
You didn't get screwed because voters didn't watch Vanderbilt football.
You were on TV all the time, and I just thought, man,

(01:19:56):
it was a horrible, horrible look.

Speaker 6 (01:19:58):
Now will he get past that? My guess is yes.

Speaker 2 (01:20:04):
But don't we see a trend, Jonathan, with kids that
don't learn their mistakes.

Speaker 5 (01:20:07):
Some kids usually repeating themselves. Football kids, they got a
lot of yes men and women around them.

Speaker 2 (01:20:12):
And yeah, it's like when Johnny Minzel was acting like
an immature guy when he was in college.

Speaker 6 (01:20:18):
He didn't really change his stripes.

Speaker 2 (01:20:20):
Did he.

Speaker 5 (01:20:21):
He was supposed to be the Brown savior he was.

Speaker 2 (01:20:24):
He was as immature in the pros as he was
as a college football player. So I feel like as
a part time host, part time data on this, I'm like,
you know, kids, you got to learn your lesson and
they'll bounce back from that. I don't know the cockiness
that Pobby may have today. It may be something that

(01:20:45):
he that that that sends him to the NFL as well.
And I just thought it was a really bad look
for a nice ceremony to have that be the story
because no one's talking about Mendoza wedding. It's more about Bobby.
That's a good point. Wow, all the voters. I mean,
you could not treat a non winning more than anything else.

(01:21:06):
It'd be like if it'd be like if you're playing
in the college football playoff and you lose and telling
all the fans of the team that won f all
them or f all the referee. I mean, it just
it's just a it is a lousy, lousy look. And
I probably wouldn't have given the Heisman Trophy five minutes
of my time on the show to make it look
it's an award. I would say it's lost its luster,

(01:21:28):
but it's with kids transferring from school to school and
leaving early. It doesn't. It just doesn't have the same
moxie that it used to have, especially if there's no
Texas kids involved in it. I mean it's Indiana and
Vanderbilt had two guys. I mean, far from any of
those two schools to be quarterback factories. It just it
just it was a It was an unnecessary headline that

(01:21:50):
they got for all the wrong reasons. And I hope
Pavia learns from it. But my guess is that's how
he's been as a college football player and probably isn't
gonna change if he tries to make it the pros.
So there you go. Social media again more important than
acting like a a guy in defeat should act. And

(01:22:11):
that's respectful. Let's get to the news at noon. Good
feelings coming from the Texans. We'll hear why in a moment.
Twelve o'clock on Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 6 (01:22:20):
Eighty is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross.

Speaker 2 (01:22:32):
Forty to twenty get not twenty to sixteen, not twenty
three nineteen, not seventeen thirteen. And yeah, Kimey Fanberg was
busy kicking field goal, but Gang It's okay.

Speaker 6 (01:22:47):
The Texans win streak at six.

Speaker 2 (01:22:52):
They're at nine and five on the season, and nothing
but good things ahead as the Texans will make the playoffs.
Thank you very much for the fact that Daniel Jones
done for the year. Thank you very much for the
fact that the Indianapolis Cults are a hot mess and
they have been beset by injuries. And thank you very much.
The Kansas City Chiefs don't win games are supposed to win,

(01:23:13):
or at least home games. That, my friends, is what
makes up the news at noon twelve o seven Sports
Talk seven ninety where, yes, the Texans one forty to twenty.
How many of you knew who Juar Jordan was before
yesterday's kickoff? If you did call in Bragg, it's seven
one three two one two five seven ninety. We had
one person to do that earlier today. Seven one three

(01:23:33):
two one two five seven ninety. Fifteen carries for Jordan
one hundred and one yards the first time at Texans
running back rush for one hundred. That's excellent news. Texans
keep on winning. Texans still holding out of the seventh
spot in the ABC playoff chase. A lot of that
is because frankly, everybody else is winning. That's because Denver

(01:23:58):
won yesterday. That's because Buffalo won at New England yesterday.
That's because Jacksonville disposed of the New.

Speaker 6 (01:24:04):
York Jets yesterday.

Speaker 2 (01:24:07):
As far as what's going on at Dimico's press conference
to Kaba had been a few minutes ago, defensive and
tackle Mario Edwards ruptured his packs out for the season.
That means both he and Tim Settle on the interior
defensive line have been gone for the rest of the year.
So two significant injuries on the Texans defensive front. Also,

(01:24:30):
Derek Stingley Junior and Woody Marks did not finished the
game yesterday. But Texans offensive head coach Jamiko Ryan says
something the monitor but should not affect Sunday's game with
the Las Vegas Raiders. The Texans at this point are
a fourteen and a half point favorite against the Raiders,
who got shut out in Philadelphia yesterday by the Eagles.

(01:24:52):
On the NBA front, the Rockets tonight here in Denver
to take on the Denver Nuggets. We'll have the broadcast
for you at eight thirty tarre easton Right now as
we speak, working out over at the ball Arena and
maybe can make his debut after missing the last handful
of weeks with an injury. Looking forward to getting it
back and lengthening the Rockets rotation. Also, we can mention

(01:25:14):
to you that Philip Rivers' debut through a touchdown pass,
but it was a Seattle field goal in the final
seconds that helped the Seahawks beat the Colts. That means
the Colts now are a full game behind the Texans
in the a FC South and right now the Texas
of a tiebreaker, the two teams will meet. However, in
week eighteen inside in RG Stadium, we mentioned the Heisman

(01:25:36):
winner and the bad runner up, Diego Pavius telling the
voters to f off, and what else we got going on.
Tomorrow night, the Spurs will take on the Knicks in
the NBA Championship Cup end season tournament in Las Vegas,
and we brought this up with a caller a little
while ago. The fact that San Antonio Spurs are as
good as they are, they're at seventeen and six, concerns

(01:25:57):
the hell out of me. FIFA. It doesn't play in
a handful of weeks, doesn't start last night, and scores
twenty or two nights ago, scores twenty points in twenty
one to twenty two minutes.

Speaker 6 (01:26:08):
He's phenomenal.

Speaker 2 (01:26:10):
The Texans, excuse me, the Rockets should be afraid of
this guy being a thorn in their side for the
foreseeable future. But hey, the Rockets are ten games about
five hundred and start a six game road trip tonight
here in Denver against the Nuggets. And that is the
news at noon. And again I brought this up very
much at the beginning of our broadcast today. And we're

(01:26:32):
a sports show. We deal with the toy store of
life when it comes to serious topics. But man, hearts condolences,
sadness thinking about you to the people of Australia with
the terrible mass shooting there yesterday, the terrible mass shooting
in Providence, Rhode Island at Brown University, which is not

(01:26:54):
far from where my daughter will be going to school
next year, so you know, obviously concerned about that. And
then hearing ward this morning that Rob Reiner and his
wife were killed yesterday and apparently it was by one
of their sons, and he has been jailed and is
on a million, multimillion dollar bail, and just a terrible, terrible, tragedy.

(01:27:20):
It happened late last night or it happened late afternoon,
and then got to the hotel and started seeing some
of the stories about it. Look as I mentioned also
in the ten o'clock hour, I didn't go to Rob
Ryner from in political beliefs. I don't go to any
celebrities or for that matter, of sports stars or for
that matter, you should come to me for my political
beliefs or yours. But he was a brilliant filmmaker, a

(01:27:41):
very funny comedic actor, part of a dynamic comedy writing
Hall of Fame family with the Winers. And to have
his son allegedly and I have to use the words
allegedly kill him and his mother and his wife just devastating.
And also for those of you that don't know, one

(01:28:02):
of Rob's and his wife's sons, Jake, who was not
being detained and is not being considered a suspect in
the in the murder, used to work at Channel two
and I didn't get to know him, but I know
people that knew him that through their relationship at Channel two.
So just a really really sad situation. But yeah, when

(01:28:24):
the war came out that it was two people one
was seventy eight, one was sixty eighth.

Speaker 6 (01:28:27):
That matched the ages of Rob and his Wife. You
knew that something was not good.

Speaker 2 (01:28:31):
But didn't see all of Rob Reiner's movies, but the
ones I did see, My personal favorite is Misery, and
I don't even like dark movies, but that with that
was awesome. James con was in it and Kathy Bates
that movie scared the crap out of me. It was fantastic.
But he did stand by me. He did the Princess Bride,

(01:28:53):
he did when Mayor Harry met Sally. This is spinal Tap,
which I guess is a new version coming out, an
updated version. And oh, by the way, nobody you know
to have a one of your children come after you
like that. Just a terrible, terrible, terrible way to start
the week, with all the heartbreak which is happening only

(01:29:14):
in our country, but the people we know in life,
and obviously what's going on in Australia. So and I
use the term thoughts and prayers very loosely because sometimes
you'd only have thoughts and prayers about something you just
say to make you feel better. But just a just
a terrible day with the various events of the last
twenty four hours, and that's why we're here, because we
try to stay away from next stuff as much as
we can, because there's enough other places in media that

(01:29:37):
you can get to get to the pressing news. We
try to keep it as lighthearted as possible to tell
the truth that's coming up. At the bottom of the hour.
We've got some prizes we'll give away, and we'll do
that in about fifteen minutes. If you want to chime
in on the Texans victory, if you had a good
feeling about how much you saw yesterday, and ultimately what's ahead.
The Texans have three games remaining Raiders at the charge

(01:30:00):
Argers home for Indianapolis. If they run the table, they
will end the regular season on a nine game winning streak.
I'm about to ask you a stupid question, and I
apologize for this. Here comes a stupid question, and please

(01:30:23):
don't get mad at me, but please give me a
response at least so I know that you're out there.
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety All right,
So my done question. I forgot to tell you here
it is is there any part of you that thinks
that Texans have peaked too early? Or is that just
the dumbest thing you've ever heard, because obviously, when you

(01:30:43):
play in the NFL, you want to win seventeen games.
Doesn't happen. Ever, had nobody's won seventeen in a row, So,
I mean they have had seventeen games, gots for that long.
But if I say the Texans win nine straight games
to end the regular season, and you go on, oh,
hell yeah, we're going to win the Super Bowl baby,
or do you go man, that's good. But I've always

(01:31:03):
seen all these teams win all these games and then
they lose one and then they've got nothing to show
for it. I'm about to give you another terrible example.
Please bear with me on this. So you guys know
that I love volleyball and love watching it, love working
play by a play of it. And the University of Nebraska.

(01:31:26):
There's a Nebraska university. I think you wearest. Nebraska went
thirty and oh this year and their run towards the
final four of college volleyball. They lost yesterday in five
sets to Texas A and M. Congratulations to Aggie volleyball.
You're going to the final four. I don't know if
you all Aggies knew that or not. There you go.

(01:31:49):
So you win all these thirty games, and what is
Nebraska doing right now? Oh, they're bemoaning the fact they
lost one time this year and it was the last
time they could have lose before going to the Final four.
So again, stupid question by me. Do you love long
winning streaks or do you kind of go? You know what,

(01:32:10):
being human once in a while isn't the worst thing
in the world. Now, again, I'm not asking for the
Texans to lose the Las Vegas. If you're better than
other teams, you're supposed to beat them. You're not supposed
to lose the Las Vegas. You weren't supposed to lose
Arizona yesterday. You're supposed to win every one game you
can because those that win a bunch of games get
higher seeds, get home field advantage, and have a chance

(01:32:30):
to go win a championship. It's significantly easier to win
an AFC or an NFC and go to the Super
Bowl when your games are in Houston or in your
home stadium and they are having to go somewhere else.

Speaker 6 (01:32:40):
Go ask Kansas City about.

Speaker 2 (01:32:41):
That all these years. But man, this is a weird spot.
We're not accustomed to this You're going to beat the
Raiders on Sunday. That's going to make it seven straight.
The Chargers are really good, they are. They wht Kansas
City yesterday, but they're by no means you know, they

(01:33:03):
are one of the hottest teams in the AFC, but
they're by no means perfect. So again, I'm not saying,
let's go see the Texans. Losing the Chargers, then beat
the Cult. You feel fine. That's why the stupid question.
And again I apologize for being stupid, but I'm just
being honest. It's just long streaks. Winning streaks creep me
out a little bit. Hell, my Cougars last year basketball

(01:33:27):
long ass didn't lose into Big twelve championships during the
course of the season, didn't lose the tournament long ass streak,
we didn't get to celebrate the end. Now, part of
the reason when we got to the final four was
because we had a great team and because we had
a long winning streak and we had a number one
seed and we got the favorable spots. So look, I said,

(01:33:48):
I apologize, but I'm just saying it's to me, long
losing streaks make me extra nervous, and I don't know
why that is. I guess it's better than being five
hundred every week you're not figuring out which team shows up.
Let's go to uh Stunner on seven ninety at twelve
twenty three center. What do you got today?

Speaker 15 (01:34:09):
What's up? Man? How's you going today?

Speaker 2 (01:34:12):
Good sir?

Speaker 15 (01:34:13):
Well, you know I was actually watching them games. But
you know when it gets down to the number one
is playing the number two or three? Hey, they coming
just as hard as the number one. And Nebraska down
the stretcher the last week or so lost a couple

(01:34:35):
of sixs, and hey, playing against the Aga. Hey that
that little Nikki and the stararstar Man. Them girls got
some some some pups, man, and they was hiding them
in the funnies off my horns went down the same
way gains Wisconsin, and I'm just like, but the Haaga

(01:34:57):
is surviving.

Speaker 4 (01:34:57):
Hey man.

Speaker 15 (01:34:58):
I got one other thing to say. Hey man, them
Checkens are playing great ball. But man, they'd never travel
like child boys because hey man, the Cowboys American team.
So when they land in California in seventh sisto, you
gotta stand the jib boys that actually live now, they

(01:35:19):
don't travel, actually live there, so they ain't about traveling.
Is about they actually home grown cowboys liven in California
or home grown cowboys even in green Bay. They ain't
gotta pack up. They already there.

Speaker 14 (01:35:36):
That's a different.

Speaker 2 (01:35:38):
Yeah, but they're not. But there are not thousands but Stunna,
there ain't thousands of green Bay fans in Denver. This
is a Denver team and they were everywhere I went
last night. There were packagers everywhere. I mean they travel.

Speaker 15 (01:35:50):
Those guys traveling, I agree with them, but I'm talking
about you go to Denver, they actually live there. They
ain't traveling. They might drive fit loud to get that,
but they homegrown. They're ver Broncos. They're not worried about traveling.
They don't have cowboys already built in. That's what I

(01:36:10):
see the difference. Now you got something that do travel
because they lose. But hey, cowboys are built in. I
think it's miss Cowboys and reliant than anywhere else.

Speaker 2 (01:36:24):
Though. No, you're fair, and that's and then part of
that is because they've been on national television a lot.
That's because you had generations of fans that didn't have
a team to root for. Uh, you know, the Cowboys
is because of their national cash a and being on
television much so many generations of people and nothing else
will root for but them. So yeah, you go to

(01:36:49):
California training camp with the Cowboys, they have a lot
of fans there, but hell, you go to the Cowboys
gain attention in every state in this Union, and I'm
tired of it. But it's never gonna go away. I
feel like I've been talking about this fifteen years. The
Cowboy fans have fan clubs in Virginia and in Minnesota

(01:37:10):
and in Arkansas and in Montana and Wyoming and Oregon.
When they say they're America's team, they ain't lion because
they put on a crappy game yesterday with a crappy
Minnesota team, two mid level teams at best, and NBC's like, uh,
we'll take them every week. We'll take Dallas every single week.

(01:37:32):
That's what Chris Collins were said a couple of years ago.
If we could put the Cowboys on seventeen times, they would.
That's why last night's game was Minnesota Dallas because you
could have two teams with fifteen losses apiece. But people
just can't get enough of the Cowboys. And I don't
even get it. I mean I kind of get it,

(01:37:52):
but in today's sports world, where we like winners, we
don't have time for losers. They've given you a lot
of losses. Seven one three two one two five seven
ninety seven one three two one two five seven ninety
let's go to uh, Mick and tumbull. Mick, you're on
seven any good afternoon. What's going on?

Speaker 14 (01:38:11):
Hey, corruption man?

Speaker 5 (01:38:12):
How's it going?

Speaker 2 (01:38:13):
Boss? Good? Thank you?

Speaker 1 (01:38:15):
I just needed just wanted to share my views on
the Texans offense basically, I mean, I know we're all
going goga over them, but apparently if you look at it,
I mean, we can't score in the five yard line. Uh,
if we're inside the five yards, I mean we have
to go for those few goals. I don't think that's
going to really help us if we're playing those big

(01:38:37):
games and all that. I just wanted to see what
your opinion is about. I mean, the Nikkel, I think
he still is not that great of an offensive coordinator, right.
Some of the plays he calls our are great, But
just wanted to hear what you have to say, sir.

Speaker 2 (01:38:55):
Uh yeah, it's uh, the reality is this, Mick. Even
though they put up forty points, yesterday, and I'm I'm
not expect them to go to fifty three or fifty
four points this quarter a bunch yesterday. The big picture
is they're not a great offense. They're an average offense
at very best. CJ did perform well yesterday, Arizona's defense
is not very good. You're gonna be playing better defenses

(01:39:16):
in the playoffs. You're gonna want to score in the
red zone more than you have been. It just hasn't
turned out that way, and it's not gonna change until
you have more components, a better running game, better offensive lineman.

Speaker 6 (01:39:29):
That's just the reality of it.

Speaker 2 (01:39:30):
It's not And I don't think Nick Kyley because the
Texans put up forty points yesterday all all is of
a sudden considered to be an elite offensive mind. He's
got time to grow in the sport. But I would
say his first year as an offensive corner running his
own ship and losst Aaron Houston has been a very
much a disappointment. So I'm not trying to hide what
the previous weeks have been. They're just getting a little

(01:39:52):
bit better. And I don't expect the Texans to score
forty points every week. I don't expect Franklin. The Texans
defense that give up twenty every week. Yesterday, it's getting better.
It's still not good enough, and if they want to
win the AFC, they're going to have to do better
in the red zone, from play calling to most importantly, Nick,
in my mind, execution.

Speaker 6 (01:40:12):
I agree.

Speaker 2 (01:40:13):
I agree, Thanks, thank thank you.

Speaker 6 (01:40:15):
I appreciate the phone call. All right, ladies and gentlemen.

Speaker 2 (01:40:17):
Normally we have Jonathan and Ross played to tell the
truth with us, but since Ross is gone and Jonathan's
busy watching highlights of SFU SFAs eighteen point lost in
Montana State. Okay, I'm sorry that was that was blow
of the belt. Sorry, I never know why. Twelve thirty six,

(01:40:57):
Sports Talk seven nine of the Matt Thomas Show continues
with raw here in Denver. Ross is off this week. Jonathan,
I have four sports takes it. I believe three of them. Okay,
one is a lie. All right, listen to me very carefully, Houston, Taxus.

(01:41:20):
One is a lie. Which one of the four? Am
I line? Which are the other three? Am I telling
you the truth? Here we go, Jonathan. I'm not predicting this.
This is not a good feeling, but I wouldn't be
stunned if Andy Reid retires at the end of the season.

(01:41:41):
Really okay, and I'm thinking non playoffs time for a change.
And oh, by the way, my Hall of Fame quarterback,
may I be ready for the start of next season.
I'm just saying if he called it a career, I
would not be stunned. That's number one, Okay. Number two,

(01:42:04):
I think Amazon Prime is going to ask Al Michaels
to retire at the end of the season. You know
the term having your fastball, Yeah, al Michaels has lost
his fastball calling on NFL games. One of the greatest
announcers of all time, Al Michaels will be pressured by

(01:42:25):
Amazon to retire at the end of the year. His
call of the winning field goal in the New Orleans
Tampa Bay game had the energy, the emotions, and the
excitement of a preseason second quarter. They spend a lot
of money on this broadcast. They make a big deal
out of it. They need a big time feel to it.
And unfortunately, as great as al Michaels is, one of

(01:42:48):
the greatest sportscasters of all time, the fastball is lost
and I think Amazon Prime is going to tell him
to go away. Number three when he retires is an
NBA take Jonathan. We will all claim that Denver's Nicola
joki to the Rockets will see twice this week, will

(01:43:08):
be one of the ten best players ever to play
in NBA history. Top ten. Okay, all right, all right,
all right. Number four, I think you Texans fans need
to be ready. Your team is gonna go up the
wild card and you're gonna play either Pittsburgh or Baltimore

(01:43:31):
in the AFC playoffs. You will be the number one
wild card team playing either Pittsburgh or Baltimore who wins
the AFC North. So get ready, traveling Texans, goofballs. You're
going to either Pittsburgh or Baltimore for a first round
AFC wild Card weekend?

Speaker 6 (01:43:51):
Which one of those four?

Speaker 2 (01:43:53):
Do I not believe? Here we go? Number one, I
would not be stunned. And Andy Reid retires, think he's
a Number two. I think Amazon Prime is gonna force
Al Michaels to retire at the end of the year.
Number three. When he retires, we will all claim that
Denver's Nicola Jokic will be one of the ten best
players in NBA history and number four. When the AFC

(01:44:16):
playoff picture is settled, the Texans are gonna be the
number one walg card team and they're gonna go to
either Pittsburgh or Baltimore to play the AFC nor champion.
On walg Caards Weekend, Jonathan, which one of the four
am I not telling the truth?

Speaker 5 (01:44:33):
Not ton the truth? Let's see, I make it sort
and sweet. I now Nicole is like, he's nice. You know,
he's got a chip under him. But I don't think
you're gonna be saying in his career he's top ten
to ever do it. I don't know, because you still
have Michael Jordan as a go right, Yeah, yeah, so.

Speaker 2 (01:44:54):
You know what, I got ten deep. I can go
ten deep on this.

Speaker 5 (01:44:56):
Yeah, But I feel like you're more of the because
servative when it comes to the Hall of Fame and
the great So I think I'm gonna take I'm gonna
take that one, all right.

Speaker 2 (01:45:05):
You don't think I think Nicole Oakus be one of
the ten greatest players? Okay? Now I think we have
the other ones. Yeah, we have six people now, all
six of you that are online. Which one of the
four am I lying about? Which one of the four
am I lying about?

Speaker 3 (01:45:22):
Greg?

Speaker 2 (01:45:22):
On seven ninety? Which one am I lying about? So
you can't have the guy that did the miracle call.
It's got to be two.

Speaker 6 (01:45:31):
You can't force him to retire, all.

Speaker 2 (01:45:33):
Right, So write that down, John than Greg says number two,
I'm lying, Okay, Dave, which one am I lying about?
I'm gonna have to agree with number two? All right,
thank you, Dave. Number two ways, I think Amazon Prime's
going to force al Michaels to retire at the end
of the year.

Speaker 6 (01:45:51):
Let's go to Chris. Chris, which one of the sixth
four of them?

Speaker 2 (01:45:54):
I lying about?

Speaker 6 (01:45:58):
Number one?

Speaker 2 (01:46:00):
Number one? You don't think I think any could retire
at the end of the year. All right, put that down.
Let's go to, uh, Travis, Travis, which one of those
form I lying about? I think.

Speaker 6 (01:46:15):
Try it again, Travis. I think we're losing Travis on
a back connection.

Speaker 2 (01:46:23):
Uh. Let's go anybody else we have here? We got
line five, Is that right? Yeah? Roger, which one of
the form I lying about?

Speaker 12 (01:46:30):
Number one?

Speaker 14 (01:46:31):
For sure?

Speaker 2 (01:46:32):
Number one? For sure?

Speaker 4 (01:46:33):
All right?

Speaker 2 (01:46:33):
Anybody else I gotta take care of. We're all good. Brian,
Brian on line two? Brian, which one of those form
I lying.

Speaker 6 (01:46:39):
About I think number one. Number one.

Speaker 2 (01:46:43):
All right, here we go, Johnathan, I got terrible news
for you. I think Nicole Oakus wun be one of
the ten greatest players ever play in the NBA when
he retires.

Speaker 5 (01:46:55):
It's okay. I'm glad you you know, I'm glad you
believe that.

Speaker 2 (01:46:58):
He is going to retire averaging a triple bubble. Do
you know how amazing that is?

Speaker 5 (01:47:08):
I guess I'm biased.

Speaker 2 (01:47:09):
I don't know if he averages twenty nine and a
half points a game this year, averages twelve rebounds and
eleven assists, he shoots forty two from three, he shoots
sixty two percent from the floor. He's a multiple MVP.
He's helped the Denver Nuggets win a World championship. He's
gonna go down as one of the ten greatest players

(01:47:29):
in the history of the NBA. But if he falls
off from here now, well then I'd be wrong one night.
These are sports takes on. So that was the question
I was asking. I was, yeh, that way, I don't
think so. I don't think it's gonna fall off. Number two.

Speaker 6 (01:47:41):
The second thing I believe.

Speaker 2 (01:47:42):
I believe that the Texans are gonna finish the top
world card spot.

Speaker 6 (01:47:48):
I think they are gonna run the table, and I
think they're.

Speaker 2 (01:47:50):
Gonna wind up being the number five. Seeing the AFC South,
I think they're gonna lose the tiebreaker to the Jaguars
base off of a bunch of different tie breakers. But
I think they're going to finish this season by going
eleven and six or twelve and five, I should say,
And they're going to be taking on either Pittsburgh or Baltimore.

Speaker 6 (01:48:08):
In the wild card round.

Speaker 2 (01:48:09):
All right, then it comes down to the last two.
As Greg said earlier, you don't tell one of the
all all all all all time greats when to retire.
That will encourage him and al May needs some friends

(01:48:30):
to help in. But they're not going to force al
Michaels to retire. So that's the one I believe. I
don't believe. Excuse me, I do not believe that one.
So I do not believe Amazon Prime is going to
force al Michaels to retire. I wouldn't be stunned if
Andy Reid quits in Kansas City. Not protecting, not predicting it,
not gut feeling it, but it feels like it could

(01:48:52):
be a decent time to do that, especially because for
the first time since twenty fourteen, not in the playoffs.
So for anybody that said that believe that Amazon Prime
is going to force al Michaels, that's right.

Speaker 4 (01:49:04):
That was a lie.

Speaker 6 (01:49:05):
The rest of them, I was telling you the truth.
Are you disgusted by me?

Speaker 4 (01:49:12):
Or no?

Speaker 13 (01:49:15):
No?

Speaker 5 (01:49:15):
Not really? All these are these are some This is
some solid takes. Honestly, I'm not gonna care about.

Speaker 2 (01:49:20):
Usually what ross is here? He gives me the terrible
amounts of.

Speaker 5 (01:49:22):
Crap over I was, I was any reader, I was like, uh,
but you know it made sense acl I was, Okay,
you know, he's pretty solid.

Speaker 2 (01:49:30):
I like these all right, So congratulations to Greg and
Dave who figured it out that al Michaels will not
be told by Amazon you have to quit that is,
to tell the truth for him. Monday, We've got an
hour left to go, hour and change left to go,
So we want you guys to chime in if any
of those four takes you want to argue with me about,
I'm all for it. Seven one, three, two point two
five seven ninety. I don't know if I'll get much.

Speaker 6 (01:49:52):
NICOLEA.

Speaker 2 (01:49:52):
Yokicic arguments on this show because it's in Houston. But
damn he's good. And then I'm saying top ten for
a guy as big as he is to score as
fluently as he does and distribute, I go to.

Speaker 5 (01:50:12):
My top ten list.

Speaker 6 (01:50:12):
I got to go for your top ten.

Speaker 2 (01:50:15):
And then I want you to tell me during if
you can do this during the break, tell me who
you're knocking out. Now, I'm not saying you're gonna do it, yeah,
but here's what I'll do. You give me your top ten.
We come back, I'll knock somebody out to put yo kichen.
Is that fair?

Speaker 4 (01:50:28):
All right? This is that? Yeah?

Speaker 13 (01:50:34):
All right?

Speaker 2 (01:50:35):
Jonathan? The four you tab is dangerous? Have I not
talked about this about five billion times?

Speaker 5 (01:50:39):
Who's in a bikini? What's going on?

Speaker 4 (01:50:41):
No?

Speaker 6 (01:50:41):
Wait a minute, Howney know in a bikini?

Speaker 5 (01:50:44):
No you met Tommas. It's been how many months?

Speaker 2 (01:50:46):
Now? All right, there's no bikini in this one. Can
I read you the following quote? And then can I
vomit as soon as I say it? Go ahead? All right?
It's mad heredy by the way, twelve fifty two on
Sports Talk seven eighty. Listen to what rich Eisen just said.

(01:51:08):
You're going to miss the Chiefs in the playoffs. The
league is more fun when the Chiefs are good. I
can't wait to see how they're going to come back
and make it it happen again. Remind me to say

(01:51:28):
this on Wednesday, Okay before I yell in the microphone
on this show. And I don't like to yell very
much that I do it occasionally, Jonathan, Is there any
truth to what rich Eisen just said?

Speaker 5 (01:51:48):
I think that's blashing me because I guess you could
say the same thing when Tom Brady left the Patriots,
like oh, and the Patriots started getting bad, Like, oh,
you're gonna miss the Patriots. That's what I may football,
But no, I mean, I feel like you.

Speaker 2 (01:51:59):
Don't want I'm so so proud of you, all right,
not gonna do it. I'm rich Eisen, shut your bumb
ass up. May I mean what that we're gonna miss
the Chiefs?

Speaker 3 (01:52:22):
Says who.

Speaker 2 (01:52:24):
People that don't have football teams, people that live in Nebraska,
people that live in Iowa, people that live in New
York City. That is one of the cord that's so stood.

(01:52:50):
Walk me off the ledge, Jonathan, Seriously, that guy's got
a national TV radio show and does play by play
or NFL network. He's telling us we're gonna miss the Chiefs.

Speaker 5 (01:53:06):
Seriously, I'm sitting here thinking about it.

Speaker 2 (01:53:09):
I don't know. One of the dumbest things I've ever
heard in my life. We're gonna who Who's gonna miss
the Chiefs? Chiefs fans yes, Missouri, yes. But our bar
patrons in Portland are gonna gonna miss the Chiefs not
being in the playoffs? Are people in uh? I don't know. Birmingham,

(01:53:33):
Alabama gonna miss the Chiefs not being in the playoffs?

Speaker 5 (01:53:36):
What seven years in the row they won the division
seven years in the row.

Speaker 2 (01:53:40):
Really good for them, they deserved it.

Speaker 6 (01:53:43):
But I'm not who misses anybody not making the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (01:53:48):
And Jonathan, dang it, I'm so damn p When the
when the Patriots domination ended, we meet were like, man,
I could certainly go for some more games at Julette
Stadium in prime time. No nobody said that.

Speaker 6 (01:54:01):
Ah, what an asenine statement.

Speaker 5 (01:54:08):
That is actually really crazy to say. I keep thinking
about that.

Speaker 2 (01:54:12):
Okay, Houston, Seriously, there are thirty two NFL teams. There
are fourteen of those thirty two teams are gonna make
the playoffs, they're gonna be a handful. They're gonna be closer. Now,
they're gonna be a handful. They're gonna be disaster, you know,
like the New York teams and your Tennessee's and your
Washington's and stuff like that. I have never missed a

(01:54:40):
team not being in the playoffs that wasn't one of
my teams, does any of I mean, look, I know
the Dallas Cowboys have a lot of fans, but is
America missing the Cowboys in the postseason? No, because it
doesn't matter. They don't go to the postseason anyway. They
still get big numbers. So I will ask you, Houston, Texas,

(01:55:06):
you awesome midday listening audience, that is the Matt Thomas
sh old Ross. Are you gonna miss the Chiefs in
the playoffs? Will your playoffs be less fulfilling because the
Chiefs won't be there?

Speaker 5 (01:55:19):
And this is the reporter I said that I didn't hear.
I didn't catch riche Eason.

Speaker 2 (01:55:22):
As a matter of fact, I know we'll do. We'll
play the audio and come back.

Speaker 4 (01:55:25):
This is some.

Speaker 2 (01:55:27):
Ah god, I mean really yeah, I'm gonna send it
to you and then you tell me if I'm reading
this wrong. The only time I missed teams in the
playoffs are when my team's out in the playoffs. I

(01:55:49):
don't go. Man, whew, the Rockets didn't make the playoffs
this year, but I can't wait to see what the
Lakers do. All the Texans got bounced into first round
the playoffs last year. Again. Man, at least I got
Kansas City to fall back on. We didn't miss the
Steelers when their seventies dominance was over. We didn't miss

(01:56:12):
the Niners when their eighties dominance was over. We didn't
miss the Patriots, we didn't miss the Giants. We don't
miss anybody America doesn't miss, will not miss the Chiefs.
In fact, America largely hates the Chiefs. Thinks Mahomes gets calls.
They're exhausted about the Travis Kelce Taylor Swift stuff. Yeah, okay,

(01:56:38):
oh man, we won't play it after you won't play now,
no play under the break? Well, well we'll play it
because again, maybe I'm wrong, And if I'm wrong, call
me out, because that's from here. For twelve fifty eight
Sports Talk seven ninety He's The Matt Thomas Show with Ross. Alright,

(01:57:02):
I wanna play this audio and then if I'm nuts,
tell me I'm nuts. Okay, But I went look to
listen to it during the break, and that's exactly what
I thought. Is the national narrative. We're gonna miss the Chiefs.
Here's rich Ies and discussing it. This is what I
want to say on this front.

Speaker 16 (01:57:20):
With the Kansas City Chiefs not making the playoffs, first
time of the Mahomes era.

Speaker 2 (01:57:26):
You're gonna miss him.

Speaker 16 (01:57:28):
You're gonna miss the Kansas City Chiefs when the AFC
playoffs are hitting.

Speaker 2 (01:57:32):
You're gonna miss that buzz.

Speaker 16 (01:57:36):
You're gonna miss the pizzazz. You're gonna miss Mahomes versus
filling the blank. You're gonna miss Mahomes versus filling the
blank with no time left, You're gonna miss something. The
AFC playoffs will have less juice to it without the
Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes.

Speaker 2 (01:57:56):
And one day, all you Chiefs, Fatigue's out of the same.

Speaker 6 (01:58:01):
Fatiguer's out there.

Speaker 2 (01:58:03):
We'll admit it. You might have to go high a register.
Leagu's one phone with the Chiefs are good.

Speaker 4 (01:58:10):
Look, people are happy about their downfall, but we got
to see a generational talent.

Speaker 2 (01:58:15):
We got to see things in this decade that we've.

Speaker 16 (01:58:18):
Never seen, and I can't wait to see how they're
gonna come back and make it happen again. He's not done, people,
And everything I just said is one big madlib.

Speaker 2 (01:58:26):
You remember that children's game Kids.

Speaker 16 (01:58:29):
There used to be something called madlibs where you would
actually write with a pencil.

Speaker 2 (01:58:33):
Okay, I don't know.

Speaker 6 (01:58:34):
Well he's educating idea.

Speaker 2 (01:58:36):
Everything's on a phone and on a device. Now, wow,
it's bad. That's worse than I thought it was gonna be.
I mean, now, no decent shop. Who do you. I

(01:58:57):
don't even know where rich Issa would be. Oh my god,
get it together, Get it together. I can't. I don't
have Rosster balances. You're gonna have to help me. I'm
by myself in Denver, in a room, screaming on the
top of my lungs. Sure, my neighbors in the rooms
to the left and right of me, you are mad
at me, as as an old brass of mind used

(01:59:21):
to say, walk me through this. So he basically, and
I'm trying to paraphrase the best like that, we're gonna
miss the great moments the Chiefs. If I'm not a
Chiefs fan, why would I miss it? You mean to
tell me that Buffalo Baltimore wouldn't be a great AFC
Championship game? And will you? Would America be captivated by

(01:59:47):
Texans versus Chargers? Probably not? But when did?

Speaker 6 (01:59:50):
When did I ever care about what America cared about?

Speaker 2 (01:59:56):
If I'm a fan of the seven teams that make
the playoffs, what if I'm in those cities and those regions?
Am I gonna be?

Speaker 4 (02:00:05):
Man?

Speaker 2 (02:00:07):
It just not as much fun because can't we can't
be Cancer City. They can't see Taylor would yell and
scream when Travis Kelsey made a catch. Chris Joe is
the second?

Speaker 4 (02:00:24):
Where is he?

Speaker 2 (02:00:25):
Where is he?

Speaker 6 (02:00:28):
I mean, shit, your bomb ass up? That's terrible.

Speaker 2 (02:00:33):
You know I want you. I always tell you guys
to smack me when my takes are horrific. I'm unafraid.
And if I can defend them my cands. Sometimes I
can't defend them, and I need to be scolded. I
promise you the AFC ratings, even if they're down five percent.
So what we're going to watch. We're gonna watch every

(02:00:55):
playoff game like it's musty television. We're gonna bet on
the games. If you can bet and you're in the
part of the country that can bet on games. We're
going to miss the Charge the Chiefs in the playoffs.
I don't know, Jonathan. The Patriots got rid of Tom
Brady and they didn't make the playoffs for multiple years.

(02:01:17):
I seem to be watching just as much football today
as I did when the Chiefs, when the Patriots are
playing for the Super Bowl.

Speaker 5 (02:01:23):
Honestly, I feel like it's more investment with just the
overall population of this season than any any before because
of the Chiefs. And there's no like how you said,
there's no super majority in the AFC. I don't know.
I just feel like it's better this way.

Speaker 2 (02:01:39):
And I don't even claim it as Chief fatigue. I
claim it as if you ain't one of us, you're
against us. Yeah, we will Missouri feel upset about yes,
But do you think anybody in southern California is wowing
the fact that the Chargers are in the playoffs, the
Rams are in the playoffs, the Chiefs are not, that

(02:02:00):
it won't be as much fun. I mean, come on,
that was.

Speaker 6 (02:02:03):
Dumb, and look, we're all guilty of saying dumb things.

Speaker 2 (02:02:06):
Look I'm doing four hours basically by myself today, I've
said so, I've said probably five or six things that
are dumb today. I get that, not immune to dumb.

Speaker 4 (02:02:17):
Now.

Speaker 2 (02:02:17):
Is Pat Mahomes recognizable? Yes?

Speaker 6 (02:02:21):
Has it been a historic run. Absolutely.

Speaker 2 (02:02:24):
They were a dominant AFC team, multiple super Bowl winners,
multiple MVP, very famous stars. I get all that. I'm
not immune to who they are. But I promise you,
if the Chiefs don't make the playoffs for the next
five years, it ain't gonna affect I think generally speaking
of how America watches television. Case in point, the Dallas

(02:02:48):
Cowboys suck your in and ear out, but people still
watch them. We love it, we live for it. We
don't particular If Miami and Pittsburgh tonight we're two teams
that were thirteen and two, we'd be watching. I'll bet
another team, Miami Dolphins seventies and eighties, dominant team, didn't
go to the best super Bowls, but we're always in
the playoffs. They fell on hard times the last ten

(02:03:09):
or fifteen years have been Have we been missing out
on the on the greatness that of Dan Marino. No,
Pittsburgh Steelers barely are making the playoffs these days and
haven't won since on a regular but since Roethlisberger was
doing it, have we missed the Steelers now because Steeler
fans watch regardless. I that was just ooh, that felt

(02:03:35):
like a midsummary. Sports take to tend to generate people
getting mad. And guess what, he got me mad? So
he worked, he wins, I lose, and look. I was
the one who thought can Say was gonna make a
run too. I mean you, I respect a hell lot
of what they've done. I thought they would bounce back,
but they didn't buy. See you stay in touch, keep
in touch. There are seven other teams in AFC like

(02:03:58):
my time be I just let's go one O nine
on Sports Talk seven ninety Can I peel the curtain
bag for thirty seconds? Here there is a window washer
near my window, and he's been my window all day long.
He is scaring a half.

Speaker 5 (02:04:18):
You feel like you're being watched the land.

Speaker 2 (02:04:21):
I don't know if he's watching me or I'm afraid
he's gonna fall, but I mean, like, hey, he's spraying
these windows. I would think if you're a window washer,
you gotta get in and get out as fast as
humanly possible. He's and then he's he's his body is

(02:04:42):
banging up against the wall like you know how when
you when you're hanging you hit hit like Tarzan used
to always run into the trees and stuff. It's flipping
me out.

Speaker 5 (02:04:55):
Did you make contact of contact?

Speaker 2 (02:04:56):
But no, But I mean I've saw his hand once. Yeah.
The water keeps spraying up to my window, the little
wire that he's holding his dear life on his I
mean I don't. I mean, I'm not gonna go out
there a little boo.

Speaker 5 (02:05:07):
I was expecting this when you feel like that got me.

Speaker 2 (02:05:12):
But then if I close my curtains and I'm gonna
be a freak show because like, what the dude, what's
the dude doing closing his blinds that are his uh
his blind uh shades at one ten in the afternoon.
I mean, I'll be doing that one take my nap
later on. But that's a different issue for a different time. Jobs. Jobs,
I will never have window washing probably at the top

(02:05:33):
of that list. They pay good apparently, though they pay
wind window washers made, do we any idea? I mean,
are they hourly? I mean they make good salary. I
mean you're taking your life in your hands literally every
time you do the jobs.

Speaker 5 (02:05:46):
Let's see what a I says. Oh I say in Houston,
Texas area, the average is seventeen to twenty dollars per hour,
and I don't know.

Speaker 2 (02:05:53):
Oh hell no twenty dollars to risk my life literally
every time I do my job. No chance, no thanks,
no way. The annual is thirty five to forty. You
gotta do something. You can go be a Walmart greeter
for better money than that. You save your life. Too

(02:06:14):
serious this, I mean he and again he's been over
here for like two hours and I'm trying not to
make mention of it on the show today, but it's
just you hear the conk conk conk.

Speaker 6 (02:06:29):
Oh that this won't take a picture of him? Put
it on Twitter.

Speaker 2 (02:06:33):
Now you got to there's literally two wires holding out
of the cat right now.

Speaker 4 (02:06:41):
Oh here he.

Speaker 2 (02:06:41):
Comes close it up. It's literally coming down like Spider Man.
Well now he's literally my door, my window. Now he's
using suction cups against my window. I think I I
think I heard the little I can't take it. I
can't take a picture of it. You real naety too obvious?

(02:07:02):
You think it gets out a flick out lot. Oh
my god, I can't even look at I'm gonna turn around.
I am flipping the f out right now. I'm serious.
It's gonna break in.

Speaker 7 (02:07:11):
You that you hear my background?

Speaker 2 (02:07:15):
Is he coming into my room? Oh no, I promise guys.
Is I'm sorry, folks, I am. I am losing my
mind seven one three two one two five seven out
of any brow. I'm gonna get a drink. You know,
I never opened up my servey bar here on the
in the road because like beers are like fourteen dollars,

(02:07:36):
I'm gonna have to take one. He's he's seven one
three two seven and it's took a break one thirteen
of the Matt Thomas should ross okay, quick up. So
he's he was staring at me, and I was like,
I can't take a picture of a man who's cleaning

(02:07:58):
my window, who's being held on by two whatever the
rods are chained, whatever these things are. And then we
go eye to eye with each other. He looks like
Seth Rollins and wwe what so yeah, I can't. I can't.
I didn't want to take it because I don't want
him to fall and hurt himself. And he land and

(02:08:19):
he goes, you know, why why were you falling? And
he goes because the guy was taking a picture of me.
So I can't do that.

Speaker 5 (02:08:25):
Yeah, and I good for your constants, I get it,
I get it.

Speaker 2 (02:08:27):
No it's not. And he's still working on the damn
when that's really freaking me out. Can we talk? Can
can somebody call and talk about anything in their life?
So I don't think you're helping me out here, try
to do a major market radio show. And I got
window washer here, just like he's like, I mean, my
window isn't even that big.

Speaker 5 (02:08:45):
How many floors does this I'm getting off top of me.
I just want to know how big this building is.

Speaker 2 (02:08:50):
Well, I'm on the fourth floor, but there's like twenty okay,
and then there's some residents here too. I don't know
how tall they go. But this is a nice hottime, mean,
clearly it is. But all right, Matt focus, come on,
believe it or not. Coming up at one fifty, all
things about either Dick van Dyk or Dave ward By, Well,

(02:09:11):
your Texans are gonna make the playoffs, okay. So I
did a little bit of checking, and then some of
y'all did some checking too about the division tiebreakers. If
the Texans and the Jaguars finish at twelve and five,
if my research team, meaning you guys out there, did
me right, it looks like the Texans would win the

(02:09:35):
AFC South.

Speaker 6 (02:09:37):
You're saying, oh, but Matt, how does that happen?

Speaker 4 (02:09:40):
Well?

Speaker 2 (02:09:40):
I looked up the tiebreakers for the NFL playoffs. If
two teams are tied, which the Texans would be at
twelve and five head to head, Well, that's even because
they both teams will have won a game best one
lost percentage within the division. The Texas would in the
Jaguars are the same record next best one loss tied

(02:10:05):
percentage in common games, they would have the same record
among common games, and that's all the AFC opponents are common.
Plus you would then throw in the NFC. The fourth
tiebreaker would be best conference record. So you're saying, well,
how did that get there? If the Texans and the
Jaguars finish at twelve and five, and I'm going to

(02:10:27):
presume that Jacksonville would lose at Denver this week and
then beat the Colts beat the Titans, I had the
Texans winning all three of their games to get to
twelve and five. That would mean the Texans would have
a Division A conference record of ten and two.

Speaker 6 (02:10:46):
The Jaguars would be nine and three.

Speaker 2 (02:10:50):
So if that happens, If that scenario plays out where
the Texans and the Jaguars both end up at twelve
and five, the Texans would win the AFC South on
the fourth tiebreaker over Jacksonville. Now things could obviously change.
They could they could have the same record, but they
could lose a different game, like, for instance, the Texans

(02:11:11):
could uh the tit I should say, the Jaguars could
beat the Broncos but then lose the of the.

Speaker 6 (02:11:16):
Colts of the Titans.

Speaker 2 (02:11:17):
Who knows. I'm just saying. Got to keep these in mind.
So the tiebreakers again are in the NF in the
in the playoffs would be head to head one division
record two common games is three. I didn't even know
that until I did a little bit of checking. Then
the fourth tiebreaker is the conference. The fifth tiebreaker is

(02:11:43):
strength of victory, meaning how bad did you beat somebody?
The sixth time breaker is schedule of strength, and then
after that, I'm not gonna go on, but if it
has to go to a twelfth tiebreaker, it's coin toss.

Speaker 6 (02:11:58):
Only if it goes to twelve type breakers.

Speaker 2 (02:12:02):
So I put it on Twitter. You guys can retweet it,
keep it for yourself, whatever the case may be. But
all the heavy lifting was done. The tiebreaker scenario is
in play and that is available on my Twitter account
at sports MT. Somebody asked earlier today about Tari Easton.
He did work out with the Rockets today. They are
coming back as we speak in from a pregame shoot around.

(02:12:23):
It'll be a game time decision as to whether or
not Tari placed tonight as the Rockets at eighteen and
six take on excuse me, the Rockets at sixteen and
six take on the eighteen and six Denver Nuggets, and
Nuggets have won four games in a row. Rockets will
play here again later this week on Friday, but we're
gonna go to New Orleans first because it just makes
geographical sense to go all the way there then come
back this direction. So there you have it.

Speaker 4 (02:12:45):
On that.

Speaker 2 (02:12:46):
Anything else, johnthan that, we have not talked about enough today.
We mentioned the Texans Philip Rivers debut was a lot
better than I think people thought it was going to be.
We mentioned the Heisman race and how Diego Papya act
Like I total pud going f the voters and putting
things on his Instagram and on his iPad and whatnot.

(02:13:06):
AFC playoff race, Rockets and oh, by the way, the
Texans disposed of the Cardinals four to to twenty, which
is what something they had to do, and they'll do
it again this week because Las Vegas is terrible. We're
in a pretty good time friends, Rockets are playing good.
Texan's about to make it get into the playoffs, seating
to be determined. And the Astros, I mean to be

(02:13:31):
brutally honest, have not done much. I have not done much.
So will they do something? Yes? Will they fix their
outfield in order to maybe get starting pitching?

Speaker 4 (02:13:44):
I e.

Speaker 2 (02:13:45):
Jake Myers, Yes, will they get rid of this crowded
infield that I can't tell you? And we'll talk to
more about this. Channel Room is going to do a
couple hours with me on the radio here on Wednesday
and Thursday this week to look forward to talking to
him with him about that. I'm trying to think what
else is when anything else going on? Sports wise? Micah

(02:14:05):
Parsons probably done for the season. Oh then a cl
tail tear for the thing for the Green Bay Packers
but these ACL tears are terrible, aren't they.

Speaker 5 (02:14:14):
Yes, I feel like it was like, what's six this season?

Speaker 2 (02:14:17):
I feel like, well, I mean, and I don't know
there's anything you need to prevent it. Man, it's football, physical,
sport tough. And I said done for the season. He
may be done for part of the next season.

Speaker 5 (02:14:26):
I mean his was non contact, so things like clean
tear when he came trying to cut back to that quarterback.

Speaker 2 (02:14:32):
Does it matter if it's clean or not? I guess, well,
my just to pill that current.

Speaker 5 (02:14:37):
I tore my a CL, but mine wasn't a clean
I tore my minisas in three places as well. So
it's it's just it's honestly easier, easier recovery just to
get a clean tear a c L and nothing else
in your knees messed up to be a quicker recovery.
My bad.

Speaker 2 (02:14:51):
So you tore what did you tear? Again? I tore.

Speaker 5 (02:14:54):
I tore three parts of my miniscus and then clean
breaked my a CL.

Speaker 6 (02:15:00):
When you did it, did you hear it tear?

Speaker 2 (02:15:03):
I felt? I felt.

Speaker 5 (02:15:04):
I felt I felt a tear like I felt something
in my knee just went gave out like it's like
one of the worst, one of the worst fellas you
could ever think it was. I almost passed out, like
I hit the ground and I couldn't even breathe. Id
better hurt, like it's crazy.

Speaker 6 (02:15:20):
Do you cry like your baby?

Speaker 4 (02:15:22):
No?

Speaker 5 (02:15:22):
No, no, no, I didn't cry. I didn't cry. I
didn't cry, not until I didn't cry until the next day.
The next day.

Speaker 2 (02:15:30):
It was what it was bad trying to walk it like,
you know, man, and so you had surgery, correct.

Speaker 5 (02:15:40):
Yeah, I didn't. I was one of those guys that
didn't surgery until later. I had to finish college first,
and then you.

Speaker 2 (02:15:45):
Walked around with your leg and like three different pieces.

Speaker 5 (02:15:47):
Yeah, man, finished get the degree. I had to do
my classes. I had in person classes that I couldn't
like take up.

Speaker 2 (02:15:54):
You could run clearly right, no, no, no, I could
run when you walked.

Speaker 5 (02:15:59):
Yeah, but acls you can end up walking after heels.
So probably like two months in I could walk pretty okay.
I just I can just slow walk. Anything else I
couldn't do.

Speaker 6 (02:16:09):
And then how long was the rehab?

Speaker 5 (02:16:12):
I'm really I'm still a rehabbing I'm eighteen months or
eighteen months.

Speaker 2 (02:16:15):
Oh, so you're trying to get the sympathy car from
the audim No, but.

Speaker 5 (02:16:18):
It's still to get back. You can get back in
less than a year, like you get six months. You
can be able to jump and everything like that, but
to get that contact and that quickness, it's to take
a little bit longer.

Speaker 6 (02:16:30):
That's what a terrible story. What a terrible, terrible story.

Speaker 2 (02:16:36):
Yikes. All right, well I'm glad you're okay. That's most important.

Speaker 5 (02:16:40):
Yeah, Okay, I told you I'm old. I got old
legs back here. I mean, I'm like, I'm like thirty five.

Speaker 2 (02:16:48):
You know, you're so your legs are a decade older
than you are, maybe even forty five. Honestly out my
legs are bad.

Speaker 13 (02:16:54):
Man.

Speaker 2 (02:16:55):
So if you're saying that you and Iran, who would win? Okay?

Speaker 5 (02:16:57):
No, all right, now let's see.

Speaker 2 (02:17:03):
I was starting to slip that one in. I'm trying
to slip that one in, all right. Seven one three
two one two five seven ninety seven one three two
one two five seven ninety we've got to believe it
or not. Coming up at about to twenty minutes from now,
we got one segment like if you guys want to
come in and talk about howksyde you are about your
Texans plan as well as they are. And twelve and five,

(02:17:25):
what have a tiebreaker over Jacksonville? If the tie breakers
worked out well, especially with conference record and division record,
we got that to get to We also have a
college football playoffs start this weekend. We'll be getting somebody
on to give us an A and M perspective on this.
And by the way, I had a lot of people
at the barbershop of the weekend. Why is A and
M get the early game. There's one simple reason. They're

(02:17:47):
putting the two good games in front of the two
bad games, meaning James Madison and Tulane. Because those two
late games are gonna go head to head against the
NFL regular season. He's going to crush college football playoff
rankings college football playoff games. I don't know if it's

(02:18:09):
fair or not, but it's the truth. So there you
have it.

Speaker 6 (02:18:14):
That's the reason why they did so.

Speaker 2 (02:18:15):
For those of going to the game between Miami and
A and M this week, it's eleven o'clock Saturday at
Kyle Field, you're getting it because you're not You're not
gonna have relatively speaking of any competition, I mean you'll
compete against college basketball, but it's start of the playoffs,
so that's the reason why they're doing that. In about
thirty seconds, we're gonna play some touch Jonathan from today's
press availability. We extra put some stuff in. As a

(02:18:38):
matter of fact, you can you get to that. My
computer is all down here at this exact moment.

Speaker 13 (02:18:42):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (02:18:43):
You tell me, what do you think?

Speaker 6 (02:18:43):
It sounds good to the audience.

Speaker 5 (02:18:46):
We got Jerar Jordan. You can know more about him,
and I'll show he has giveting him some praise on
that as well.

Speaker 2 (02:18:53):
Yeah, let's uh, let's let's hear from Let's hear from
a man that I thought would never make an appearance
of the Matt Thomas showed.

Speaker 5 (02:18:58):
Ross one second for please. Oh no, man, my eyes
got big.

Speaker 13 (02:19:09):
I just seen daylight and I was run as fast
as I can. I got a little tired. You know,
it's hard not playing with full pass for a while
and then coming out here for the first time playing
a full pass, and then it's a different feeling.

Speaker 2 (02:19:22):
All right, So there you go. Good job for him
yesterday he spoke after there's one hundred and one yard
rushing day from man that I thought would again practice
squad nine to ald percent of the season, fifteen carries
one hundred and one yards. Do I think he's a
long term solution, No, but for a temporary goodbye ass

(02:19:44):
So there you go. That's a little bit from Jordan
who else said spoke yesterday after the big victory, they'll
be worthy of playing.

Speaker 5 (02:19:49):
Oh alshe here talking about offense helping the defense got
lasted on offense performance. We got forth Nico and then
Titus Howard talking about Stroud's great passes and I'm just
giving him praise.

Speaker 2 (02:20:00):
M just keep firing them off. We got to brag
on the look when they're playing well, you gotta gotta
you gotta hear from them.

Speaker 17 (02:20:06):
Offense doesn't put up forty and that could be a
good ball game. But I mean that's a that's a
good offense. You know, they got some really good dynamic
players and uh, Perssette is really good at just taking
the deep drops but also like being just methodical downfield,
taking what you give him.

Speaker 5 (02:20:21):
So uh, I've got a lot of respect for that
offense and.

Speaker 2 (02:20:23):
Those players in that team.

Speaker 17 (02:20:25):
But I think just what you saw today was just
us staying together, playing together and finding a different way
to win another ball.

Speaker 6 (02:20:35):
That was last time.

Speaker 2 (02:20:36):
I'm assuming, right, I'll say here, no, I'll sure here,
what's doing Okay? Yeah, that he was being polite. Nobody
has respect for his own I mean they do. I mean, look,
all those players have respect for each other's teams, for sure,
But Jacobe Prissett is not necessarily a guy that's going
to uh strike a lot of fear. The Texans defense

(02:20:57):
is better than anything that Johope pers can put out there.

Speaker 6 (02:21:00):
Now, I'll say this, Trey McBride was amazing yesterday.

Speaker 2 (02:21:03):
And Trey McBride's probably, as I said earlier in the
show today, he's probably the best player in the NFL.
You don't know about because again, unless you have a
fantasy team. Uh he's grabbing balls left and right and
doing a great job for them. But he's really that's
about the biggest part of their offense. So let's go
to Titus Howard about how things are going right now
on that side of the ball.

Speaker 9 (02:21:24):
I saw one of them, lie that one he was
rolling in through it between the window to Darwin.

Speaker 2 (02:21:29):
That was a crazy throw.

Speaker 9 (02:21:30):
I was like in the game, I'm like, oh man,
that's crazy, you know. But a lot of Corbys can't
make that throw him at His release is so fast.
That's what he's able to make some of those rows.
So CJ's a I know if people get to see
that a lot of stuff he didn't when the best
quarterbacks on the.

Speaker 2 (02:21:45):
League, like when we do what we're supposed to do
and give them time. I think he went the best.
So do you do you all notice it's funny Titus
Howard is a young man in his mid twenty, very
well compensated for his job. But there is an innocence

(02:22:06):
to what guys are like in the locker room, especially
those that are not considered davas, that don't worry about
their next paycheck. They're not worry about their next contract.
That to me was Titus Howard just talking like a
guy that wanted to brag about his teammate. And I
love the admission that he said that, Look, we got
to do our job. It is amazing, ladies and gentlemen,

(02:22:31):
how good an offensive line can be, our quarterback can
be if the offensive line at least handles.

Speaker 6 (02:22:36):
Their own business.

Speaker 2 (02:22:38):
And the stats tell me he was only sacked one
time yesterday, so that's a very good thing. I don't
know how the pressure rate was and whatnot. But and
you know in CJ again, never be considered a scrambler,
a guy that was looking to run for first downs.
He has to do it if he needs to, but
he's a guy that has very good escapability unless he's
running into twelve or thirteen yard sack and sometimes you

(02:23:00):
should fall down faster than he does. But that was
Titus Howard yesterday speaking about a player that he knows
that on his side can get the job done. And
we've been kind of waiting for that. It's difficult to
go and I don't go in the locker room for
the Texans, but I'm guessing it's not fun to go

(02:23:22):
in and talk to players after games when their quarterback
has been sacked five or six times or their quarterback
takes ahead, and it can concussed. That can't be in
a enjoyable experience. But just in that one little sound bite,
it's not like, Man, I'm a kid. I don't care
what I'm making, I don't care the pressure it's on me.
I'm playing offensive line in the NFL and I get

(02:23:42):
to protect a guy that I take pride in and
it's kind of nice. It's crazy how chripper the Texans
locker room has been the last seven or eight weeks,
generally speaking, because we had them, and I'll put myself
in the same mix. When you go in three year
not supposed to make the playoffs. Not impossible, not at all,

(02:24:04):
but it's highly irregular for it to happen. The NFL
tells us every year this time, after the first two
or three weeks of the season, how limited you are
in making the playoffs if you make a c if
you'd off to a certain start. So I just felt
like it was a good time to play a couple
of soundbites about what it's like. You hear people cheering

(02:24:25):
in the background, Guys are in a good mood, ready
to talk now Apparently. I don't think Will Anderson's poke issue,
but I think it's more about what happened to his
eye than anything else. I don't know the drama behind that.
I don't particularly care, but Will Anderson has done beyond
enough media appearances and so I don't know if it's

(02:24:45):
Matt about something. I don't think it was an ishow.
I don't think it was brought up today the press conference.
If it was, I'm sure wex and Adam will bring
that up during their show today. But if something happened
where he wasn't feeling great or whatever, let the man be.
I don't think it's the storyline. My guess is if
the Texans beat somebody by twenty points and they're one
step close to the playoffs, that Will Anderson would want

(02:25:06):
to spend as much time talking about it as possible.
So I don't know what the situation was, but don't
need to worry about it. All right, let's do this.
We got believing or not today. It's half about Dave
Ward and half about Dick van Dyke. Respectfully, I don't
want to do a believe or not on Rob Reiner
because I mean, his timing was sun violent and obviously

(02:25:31):
a tragic, tragic situation with his son being held as
a potential man that did the you know, the community murders,
which is just awful. So we will spend a little
bit of time honoring the great life of good Dave
Ward and obviously spending a little bit of time time
with Jerry van Derrevin. That was a brother Dick van Dyke,
who just turned one hundred years old. So they'll be

(02:25:52):
believing or not today tomorrow on the show we got
gut feelings. Chris Gordy's gonna hang out for a little
bit and hopefully we'll be talking about a Rocket's victory
against the Day for Nuggets Rockets again ten games above
five hundred, I did see a stat it's about to
get much more difficult for the Rockets. O the rest
the way, we have played fewest number of games I
think in the NBA this year, and uh, it's about

(02:26:13):
to get much more intense with the Rockets. In fact,
five teams so far among the thirty in the NBA
have played at least twenty seven games. The Rockets are
about to play twenty nine games in fifty four days.
That's all before the All Star break. Six sets up
back to backs. Only negative so far about that for

(02:26:35):
Rocket fans are the Rockets have played in two back
to backs and they have lost both ends of the
second end of the back to back. Rockets have a
back to back this weekend. In fact, Saturday here in
Denver against the Nuggets. Sunday, we go to Sacramento to
take on the Kings. Believe it or not, Dave Ward,
and believe it or not, Dick Van Dyke up next
time one forty three if you want to play seven

(02:26:55):
to one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven ninety Man, we
are having a tough day with deaths obviously, the passing
of Rob Ryer and his wife horrific, horrific situation in California. Jonathan,
you don't know. This is not even conversation for you
in the one minute here before I believe it or not.

(02:27:17):
I never watched General Hospital as a kid, but I
knew who Luke and Laura was. Uh, maybe the most
famous soap opera wedding and history was when Luke and
Laura got married. Well, Anthony Geary, who played Luke, died, Yeah,

(02:27:37):
I guess yesterday. He was seventy eight years old. Yeah,
I know he died range.

Speaker 5 (02:27:47):
But I feel like every year close to the end
the yar and you guys see you can say that
every month, but it feels like at the end of
the year, before the year passes, a lot of people
in the passing away as well.

Speaker 2 (02:27:57):
I don't know why that is. Now you can always
figure out burst because you know, if the weather's cold,
it's gonna be summer birthdays, you know, but deaths. You
don't You don't know Anthony Gary. He had the curliest
hair in the eighties. I think anybody alive and I
didn't watch it, but if anybody was a kid knew
that that was the most famous wedding. I think it

(02:28:17):
was like set a record for most people ever watching
a daytime show. Was when Luke and Laura got married.
That's more of a Days of Our Lives person until
mar Lane got possessed and I turned it off. And
now you know me, I'm exclusive Young and the Wrestles
and Bold and Beautiful. Yeah, by the way, I gotta
I gotta call my wife and tell her to turn
the DVR off. I'm able to watch nineteen Young and

(02:28:39):
the Wrestles in twelve, Bold and Beautiful while I'm gone
for the next two weeks. And first person problems, Matt
Thomas problems. Yeah, those are Matt Thomas problems for sure.
All Right, I'm back here in Denver. We're not leaving
four New Orleans until tomorrow afternoon, so I will do
the show here. Gordy's gonna stop buying hop out for
a couple of hours. I meant to leave a little
bit early. I don't know scheduched just yet, but we'll

(02:29:01):
have that. We got gut feelings. I want you to
watch Jokic tonight, Jonathan buking me a little homework assignment. Okay,
and just again't he averages he is a seven foot
that averages a triple double. No, and I hear you.

Speaker 5 (02:29:15):
I'm just I'm just making sure you're saying top to
you will take somebody out of top ten for sure
if he can.

Speaker 2 (02:29:20):
Oh, did you get your top ten lists ready?

Speaker 5 (02:29:22):
I had it ready, But I mean, okay, let's get
really fast. We got thirty seconds, all right, it's lebron
uh kareem.

Speaker 2 (02:29:29):
This is no order.

Speaker 5 (02:29:30):
Tim Duncan, Larry, that's four you got, Jordan Jordan, Yes, missus,
Jordan's I got Lebron. I I'm gonna put stuff there,
but I'm gonna I'm just gonna put it there.

Speaker 2 (02:29:46):
I'm almost happy right there because I got a short time.
I'm gonna knock off Tim Duncan and putting Akola Yoka
to the spot.

Speaker 5 (02:29:53):
You're gonna knock out Tim Duncan and that's stuff.

Speaker 2 (02:29:54):
Yeah, yeah, yep, go and do it.

Speaker 5 (02:29:59):
I guess that's a argument there.

Speaker 6 (02:30:01):
See your letter, Tim, see your letter by Tim, Hello, Nicola.

Speaker 2 (02:30:07):
If he averages a triple level for his career and
in multiple time MVP and world champion, he's he's in
the top ten.

Speaker 5 (02:30:13):
I'm forgetting Arry Bird.

Speaker 2 (02:30:14):
My bad, my bad. Don't forget Larry Bird. Kobe's certainly
in the mix there around that ten eleven spot.

Speaker 5 (02:30:22):
Two before we go to Believe or Not? Do you
old school cats? Do y'all even put will Tremblin up there?

Speaker 2 (02:30:28):
Or is that like? Absolutely? Okay? Okay? So now I
can't put like Coozy and Miken and guys that you
know that are way past my prime. But I can
put in I can absolutely put in well and I
ever saw well play, but I saw enough video. Will
