In this episode André Langlois discusses the musician Prince with rock journalist Barney Hoskyns.
April 21 marks five years since the artist’s death at his Paisley Park Studios in Minneapolis. Although that city was an integral part of Prince’s identity, he also had an affection for London, visiting often to play shows in both arenas and small clubs. In 1994 he opened his Sign o’ the Times shop in Camden.
Barney Hoskyns is editorial director of Rock's Backpages, the online library of music journalism, which also has its own podcast.
Barney had the privilege of joining Prince’s touring party in the early ‘80s and released the book Imp of the Perverse in 1988.
He also had a somewhat frosty encounter with the artist many years later.
