Directed by Muzaffar Ali and with enduring music by Khayyam, Rekha plays the role of a famous courtesan who navigates love and family in the midst of the Sepoy Rebellion of 1857. Costarring Naseeruddin Shah, Farooq Shaikh, Raj Babbar, Shaukat Azmi, Dina Pathak and others, Umrao Jaan is an essential part of 80s Hindi cinema.
